It is counted among the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, along with the Pyramids of Giza in Egypt. Today, a single restored pillar of the Temple of Artemis stands tall toward the sky, the only clue to its former splendor. Discovered and excavated in the 19th century, part of the pillar is housed in the British Museum. The World Heritage site of Ephesus is swarming with tourists, but here it is a peaceful sight with local children running around. It is about a 10-minute walk from the Ephesus Museum. Admission is free. You can visit the temple ruins in 10 minutes, but it is also nice to take your time and rest your feet. The old buildings nearby are also unique and interesting.
