Singapore - Merlion

The Merlion is one of Singapore’s most iconic landmarks, symbolizing the birth and development of the city. The lion head represents Singapore’s original name "Singapura" (meaning Lion City in Malay), while the fish body symbolizes Singapore’s historical roots as the fishing village "Temasek." The entire statue spouts water from its mouth, facing Marina Bay, making it a classic photo spot for countless visitors.

Merlion Park is located around Marina Bay, directly opposite Marina Bay Sands Hotel and the Singapore Flyer. It is a popular walking spot to enjoy the cityscape of Singapore, suitable for both day and night visits. The atmosphere becomes even more magical after the lights come on at night, often accompanied by street performances or water and light shows, making it ideal for an evening to nighttime visit as part of a free independent travel itinerary.

Currently, besides the large Merlion, there is also a mini version called the "Little Merlion," which is also beloved by tourists.
