Huanglong… When I came across the heavenly five-colored pond

When it comes to natural World Heritage sites in China, one of the dream destinations travelers must visit is Huanglong (Huanglong Scenic and Historic Interest Area) in Sichuan Province, a land renowned for its stunning snow-capped mountains and dazzlingly colorful mineral springs.

🚡 On to the Nature Trail

At the park entrance, I opted to take the cable car up to the top to save energy and preserve my energy for the Five-Colored Ponds. Once there, I had to walk about 2–3 kilometers along a comfortable wooden boardwalk, surrounded by pine forests and small streams. The gentle sound of the water trickling made the walk less tiring.

🌈 Unforgettable Beauty

And then… what I had been waiting for arrived: the Five-Colored Ponds. I stood there staring for a long moment, motionless. The water was so clear that it reflected a cascade of blues, greens, yellows, and golds, alternating like a fairytale mirror. Some ponds were small, others large, cascading down a natural staircase. From a distance, it looked like a rainbow carpet in the valley.

🕍 Stopped at Huanglong Temple.

A short walk later, I arrived at the site. Huanglong Temple, an ancient temple nestled amidst snowy mountains, offers a tranquil atmosphere, with colorful prayer flags fluttering in the wind. I sat here for a moment, took a deep breath, and felt like I had completely let go of all my fatigue in the valley.

⏳ Best time to visit

I visited in autumn (late September). The surrounding leaves were beginning to change color, contrasting with the crystal-clear water, creating a picturesque view. However, if you want to see the entire valley covered in snow, winter is the best time to visit, as it creates a world of otherworldly beauty.
• Autumn (September–October): The colorful leaves contrast beautifully with the crystal-clear water.
• Winter (November–March): The entire valley is covered in snow, creating a tranquil, heavenly atmosphere.

📝 Impressions

Huanglong is not just a tourist attraction; it's a journey that makes you feel smaller amidst the majestic nature. Every step you take, every scene you see, it's as if nature is teaching you to pause and appreciate this so-called "wonder of the world."
