🏛️A Modern Western-Style Building Remaining in Tokyo

📍Shinjuku Gyoen Park Office (Former Shinjuku Gyoen Management Office)

Just inside the Okitomon Gate of Shinjuku Gyoen, surrounded by greenery, stands the beautiful Western-style building known as the Shinjuku Gyoen Park Office. This building was constructed in the Meiji era as the former Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry’s Shinjuku Experimental Station office and is a precious example of surviving Western-style government buildings.

Currently used as the park’s management office, its exterior is a historic structure designated as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property.

With its red roof, white walls, classical window frames, and beautiful symmetrical design, it feels like stepping back in time to a Meiji-era Western mansion. The contrast with the garden’s greenery is stunning, making it a hidden popular spot for photography.

Although you cannot enter the building, the view from the lawn in front of it is very photogenic. Architecture and history enthusiasts should definitely stop by to see this hidden gem of Shinjuku Gyoen.
