Upscale style bbq. AMAZING FRIED OKRA

By DonePayingForPoorQuality |

The fried okra is excellent. Best fried okra I've ever had. Fresh and flavorful. Crispy but not burnt. The bbq is not typical southern bbq piled on your plate. It is good but done in a very "upscale" manner.

Good BBQ, trendy joint, great service.

By Jordan C |

If you're looking for good Texas bbq in a modern, trendy atmosphere this is the place. Menu is good, with all the requisites like ribs, brisket and sides but the meat choices are a bit limited. Would have liked to see some chicken, maybe a beef rib or something. Food is excellent, perfectly smoked and expertly cooked. Brisket was some of the best I have ever had. Portions are good, but not typicalky texas big. Tons of great sides. Service is excellent, fast, friendly, good recommendations. Closes early at 9pm and can get crowded so dont go late.

Group dinner

By Kevin M |

The negative 3 star reviews really sum up our experience. Thursday night dinner at 7:00 for a small group that were the restaurants only customers. Overall service consistent with mediocre flavor. Underwhelming experience is a kind statement.

Great BBQ

Best brisket I've ever had, smoked salmon was amazing, don't forget to try one of their desserts ! Atmosphere is very nice there was a jazz band playing while we were eating

Upscale BBQ flop

By Zotemail |

As a native Texan, I always thought that BBQ was the quintessential American blue-collar cuisine. Whether it was beef or pork, sweet or tangy, ribs or brisket or other pulled critter, it was supposed to represent blue-collar cuisine at its finest. Blue-haired waitresses that call you honey and offered sweet tea or non-sweet. Weathered pitmasters working their magic in smoke-encrusted old buildings that miraculously remain standing after decades of use. That was until I valet parked my car, walked into a brand spanking new building, took my seat at a reserved table, and was handed the wine list at 18th & Vine BBQ in freshly re-gentrified area of West Dallas. Sure, the building was supposed to look old, but it was about as authentic as a French Chateau in Disneyland (or Frisco). Having admired for decades the quirky old building that was demolished to make way for this new imposter, I was saddened by how West Dallas was losing its soul and sense of identity. Frankly, 18th & Vine BBQ has nothing to do with Dallas, or Texas for that matter. Instead, it is supposed to be Kansas City style BBQ. Very expensive KC style BBQ. Meals START at $18 for two meats and a small side, and go up to $33 for a steak!!! Boy, I miss the Herrera's Mexican restaurant (with pictures of line-time patrons on a table) that was knocked down for the valet parking for 18th & Vine. At least at Herrera's a diner could get a good hearty meal for half the entry-level price of 18th & Vine. But how was the food? The brisket was dry, as almost every reviewer commented. The Burnt Ends appetizers were curiously less dry than the brisket. The smoked chicken was so-so. The Hot Smoked Salmon appetizer was fine, but not comparable to what most cooks with a smoker can make at home. The $21 BBQ Beef Stroganoff was inventive, but poorly executed and presented; a piece of old parsley would have livened it up a tad. The sausage was tasty but really greasy, even for saysage. Oddly, the Brussel Sprouts and Malbec-BBQ wine pairing were the only hits of the dinner. Was the food worth the price? No. Will I go back? No. Would I recommend 18th & Vine BBQ to my friends? Maybe, but only if they are recent out-of-state transplants with more money than sense who think Frisco is rustic.

cozy vibe, great BBQ

By Maya B |

loved almost everything about this restaurant. its cozy, and has very good BBQ choices. Plus enough on the menu for picky eater in your party (like my kid) The only thing i did not like is a lack of parking in the area. it forces you to leave your car with valet, though its complimentary, you still end up paying tips.

Beyond the call

By peter |

Have to thank 18th and Vine for a great American meal on our last meal in Dallas. And especially our server Isaac who went beyond the call in accommodating my gluten free diet with advice and substitutions

Best Iced Tea & Smoked Sausage!

By Kathy S |

Jacobe was our most excellent waiter, Tony another waiter was equally friendly. Had the 2 meat (sausage & brisket) with the pit beans as the side. Also had a house side salad with mixed greens, cherry tomatoes, pickled onions & goat cheese. The vinaigrette on the table was homemade & perfect for the salad (& pork too they said) the Brisket was “really good” the sausage was the best I’ve had! It was cheddar jalapeño, but We found out it had beef tenderloin in it along with pork. Unique, clean atmosphere. Above mentioned with 2 iced teas was $35. We’d go back for sure

Solid Grub

By Dennis E |

I believe this place just opened in the last couple of months. The fried okra appetizer was fantastic. Good selection of high quality beer on tap. Excellent atmosphere, somewhat of a home-like feel. If I lived closer I'd definitely be back, but I don't live around here.

Very good Barbecue!

By Elizabeth O |

We had a late reservation for a party that included 2 families with teens. My husband and I split a chopped salad, a half pound of turkey and a half pound of brisket with mashed potatoe, all of which were excellent. Our friends got the salmon which they enjoyed, and my daughter got the pork belly and shrimp which was delicious. The only issue we had was that they were out of a couple of wines listed on their wine list, but our very attentive waiter was able to find a comparable replacement.

Good flavor

By slm528 |

We ordered the burnt ends and fried okra for an appetizer (for a table of 4 to share) and that was the perfect starter. Two of us ordered the lean brisket and the others had chicken and pork. Everyone was very pleased with the smokey flavor of the meat and we all shared our sides: brussels sprouts, beans, mac & cheese and collard greens. Our collective favorite was the brussels sprouts (they were SO good!) followed by the creamy and hearty mac & cheese. Definitely comfort food - we all left stuffed! The BBQ sauce on the table was also a nice complement to the meats - it was the perfect mix of sweet and spicy.

Valentine's Day Dinner

By Mariah H |

My husband and I spent Valentine's Day in Texas and had dinner at 18th & Vine. The BBQ is so good here and the restaurant is so nice inside!

Lovely restaurant - decent BBQ

By DallasLonghorn |

I love Texas BBQ. That is not what they serve here. But their BBQ is good, I particularly like the house sausage and their sides are quite good (cheese grits in particular). Their sauce is spectacular, in my opinion, but the brisket was very tough and very dry. For me that is a real problem in Texas. I'm willing to give it another go because I enjoyed the other parts, but the brisket did not measure up to many other options in Dallas and Texas, with basically no smoke ring and no "tug." I hope they can improve that. The restaurant itself is very nice for BBQ and a super cute building. I suspect the finish out let to the somewhat-high prices. The portions are not large, but probably the right size for a lunch. My wife would love this in contrast to many BBQ places, so they probably have the right concept for the area. Was disappointed that they won't use burnt ends as a meal. Seems a little inflexible since you are selling them for basically the same price as an appetizer.

Great meat

By Karen H |

We loved the smokey meat pork brisket ribs - burnt ends appetizer really good. Okra really good We did not enjoy most of the sides. Too bland or too sweet. Any southerner knows greens must have tart pepper vinegar. All they had was a very sweet vinegar. The BBQ sauce was very sweet so if you prefer tart, This is not for you. The service was ok but not very enthusiastic.

Drove 40 minutes!

By edandshelleyd |

We have many BBQ restaurants in Frisco but heard about 18th and Vine when they won the best BBQ on the Steve Harvey show. Made the drive and SO PLEASED we did! Great location, atmosphere, service and food! Very nice place that is date night quality! We will be back again!!!

Tasty, Fast and Friendly

By K Z |

Stopped in on a Monday night - light crowd. I sat a the bar and Gregory made a nice recommendation for a light Kansas City brewed beer - didn't want a heavy beer but a lighter bodied beer. He's super nice. I wasn't immediately in favor of the smokey aroma but it got me thinking about trying some food and ordered smoked wings from the appetizer menu and a side Caesar salad. The wings (maybe five) were very very good. NIce smokey taste and texture. The salad had a bit different dressing than I expected but very good too. I'd get them same thing again. Well worth it.

Bbq

By Marla S |

Just had a great dinner, with great service. My husband and I shared pulled pork, and chicken. The side we chose was seasoned fries. The pork had such a great taste it didn’t need sauce...but the sauce was so good i couldn’t resist. The chicken was also good with a great flavor and very moist. Fries were warm and seasoned well. Our server Josh a fabulous server!! Highly recommend this restaurant.

So Good

By wellhealedtraveler1 |

This restaurant is across the street from my office and it's a must every week. Burnt ends, fried okra, The Lester all are excellent choices. The Cauliflower Steak is amazing. Never a bad meal here!

Enjoyable location

By John W |

We enjoyed eating in a converted house. The different open dining areas brought a good feel to the place. Great long bar seating as well. The menu is pretty straight forward and tasty. We had the combo which was a selection of two meats (ribs, pork, brisket, chicken) and then you order your side dishes. Dessert - brownie ala mode was delicious!

OMG!

By crystalf1984 |

Great place to eat! The food was so good. I loved the style of the resteraunt. I was hoping that the bbq sauce was not tangy and was nerves. But it was exactly what i wanted. The fried okra was really good. The brisket was really tender. The ribs were awesome! We did the meal for 4 and we had lots to take home!

Not so good

By Expedition785924 |

I looked for excellent reviews for BBQ and 18&Vine came up. Great reviews and they had everything I really liked, so I made my online delivery order. The lady who delivered my food was very nice and the food smelled soooo good! I ordered 1/2 of brisket, 1/2 sausage, jalapeno cheddar cheese grits, greens and fried okra. What a disappointment this order was and I spent a pretty good amount on this too!! The brisket was very dry and somewhat tough, the sausage was a greasy jalapeno something, the grits had absolutely NO flavor, the okra was the whole okra, not like grandma's, and very salty along with the greens still with the hard stems on and also very salty. I was not able to even eat half of it and ended up dumping it all in the trash...If any one else has had a good experience here, I'm glad, but I can honestly say...I am soooooooooo disappointed for the money I spent!

BBQ lunch

Really cool place. The food was good. The upstairs bar was really cool. But Where is the hospitality guys? This is a new place. Make your customers want to come back.

18th and Vine

Not too far from the airport. Rolled in at 2. Server was fantastic, food was quick and tasted great. Would go back for sure.

Best BBQ

By Whitney H |

I was born and raised in KC and when I heard a KC inspired bbq place opened in Dallas, I had to go. It is without a doubt the BEST bbq I have ever had. I used to be the person who would wait 2 hours in line at Oklahoma Joe's (now Joe's KC) in Kansas City, but those days are over. Sorry KC, the best KC style BBQ is now in Dallas.

Open For Dinner, unlike many other BBQ places

By Packer220 |

We were staying in downtown Dallas and I was looking forward to having Texas BBQ for dinner. I had a list of places within walking distance from Eater. Unfortunately, the list did not note that LITERALLY every downtown joint was not open for dinner. The concierge confirmed that and recommended 18th & Vine for dinner. It's a lovely building located less than 10 minutes via Uber from downtown. I sat at the bar for my meal. It was a Wednesday night and the place was not very busy. I had a nice cocktail and ordered the chicken and beef brisket combo plate. The food was good but perhaps my expectations of Texas BBQ were too high. Everything was tasty (sauce was a little bland) and tasted like good quality meats. I'd rate this lower but the atmosphere and service were very inviting. I guess the lesson I learned is a concierge may guide a guest to a safe but bland BBQ restaurant for fear of offending the guest.

We just had lunch here and it was delicious- with a great waiter

By Pepper |

Lovely place , kind of a house with vaulted ceilings, with jazz upstairs. Very attentive and knowledgeable waiter- and truly delicious bar b que. Kansas style- sweeter variety which is fine by me. We had the burnt tips- fantastic! I loved the ribs- they don't get any better- and the chicken was good too ( but a little too dry on the white meat to my taste). I liked the cole slaw- not creamy, which is fine with me. One friend had the pulled pork sandwich- and raved about it. The only dish that got a B instead of an A was mac and cheese.

mmmmm good

By Michael B |

you MUST MUST MUST MUST have the burnt ends.!! what a find! everything we had was great, from the brisket to the ribs, to all the sides. service was great! they really took care of us. you will probably have a take home box. the portions are ample. we WILL be back.!!

First time at 18th & vine...hope not the last

By Megan L |

My husband, son and I were staying in Dallas for a couple nights for a wedding and 18th & vine was recommended for some good Texas BBQ. It did not disappoint. The brisket was very flavorful and the ribs fell off the bone. We try to get a lighter option so we don’t walk away too stuffed so decided on the Pit Boss Salad...it was delicious! That was my favorite part of the meal actually! We got our meal to go and took it to enjoy the great weather at the Klyde Warren Park. 👍🏻👍🏻

Amazing Burnt Ends and Cool Atmosphere

By kingofthehill81 |

My wife and I decided to try this place out on our anniversary. I found it online and being lovers of barbecue thought it was worth a shot. Upon arrival I was happy to find parking pretty easily, especially since there is not a lot of parking in the area. It looks like an old house that has been converted to a restaurant. It was actually really nice and unique but fit into the area. We had a reservation since it was a Saturday night, but it was not needed. It was pretty empty. The food was pretty good but on the expensive side of things for sure. The service was fantastic and everyone seemed to be excited about their jobs. The drinks were strong and similar to what you might find at a southern speakeasy which only added to the ambiance. Now back to the food. The sauces were good, but average. The brisket lean and tender but nothing special. The sausage had a made in house texture and were not bad. The burnt ends on the other hand were spectacular. I would give this review a 5 star no problem based on these alone, but the rest of the food was average at best. The burnt end were like "meat candy" and I will be back often and only order them. I can not stress enough how good the burnt ends were. Overall if you have not been it makes a great place for a date or night out, but there is better barbecue in the area.

Excellence...from a KC girl

I am KC born and raised so I know KC BBQ and this does not disappoint! Authentic KC taste, the sauce is second to none. The greens are to die for..seriously!

The Best KC BBQ in DFW

By CarlWesleyLowery |

Really great food. We had the burnt ends, wings, ribs, fried okra, brisket, cheese grits and then the fried peach pie with homemade vanilla bean ice cream. I could go on and on about each item, but, let it suffice to say that every single bite was perfect. On top of that, Rusty was one of the most knowledgable servers we've had and so responsive to our requests. Highly recommended!

That was awesome!

By barnesrph |

After a day of flying, stopped in at happy hour for lunch / dinner, it was really good. Great local beer, and an excellent sandwich. I had the Basie, with jalapeno .I'd stop here again.

Great Upscale Barbecue

By Nmv1 |

The food here is great. It is one of the only upscale, Kansas-style barbecue restaurants in Dallas. If you go, you definitely have to try the burnt ends. They were well flavored and perfectly cooked so they would fall apart in your mouth. I found the service to actually be quite friendly and efficient when it came to getting our food out. They have a great menu so what ever you order should be good.

Very disappointing

By mshbnyehud |

I had high expectations for our visit to 18th & Vine BBQ, and was disappointed multiple ways. Maybe I should have been concerned when I was able to make a Saturday night reservation at 7:30 p.m. with no problem, and walked in to see half of the tables empty. We ended up being seated upstairs on a small table for 2, in what is normally a bar area (now vacated because of Covid precautions). We started with an appetizer order of the well-known Kansas City burnt ends, except these burnt ends bore no resemblance to what i've enjoyed in KC on multiple visits there. Sauce was good. That's all I can say. The dish was loaded with fat, hardly crisp (as I would expect burnt ends), and wholly unsatisfactory. I should have sent it back. My entrée was two meats with one side dish --- slow cooked brisket and sausage. The brisket also contained much too much fat, and the brisket didn't seem to have any consistency. The sausage was, in my opinion, inedible. Not at all like Texas sausage I've had in many other locations. Yich!! My partner's chopped salad was just okay. Too much weird lettuce items. We both enjoyed a decent tasting order of fried okra. Service by Jacoby was excellent, which rescued one star. There's no sense giving this restaurant a second chance. This was a really bad experience but for the service and the BBQ sauce itself.

Nephew's birthday dinner (He's 11)

By Tianna W |

OMgawd... From the location to the mgrs, the employees, & FOOD!! Everything was TOP NOTCH! Can't wait to go back & check out their live band. My nephew loves ribs & fries & ate ALL of it plus ordered more fries. All of our food was amazing...1st time trying Kansas bbq

Great BBQ indeed.

By Raymundo R |

Great food, I had fried okra as a starter, ribs/brisket and a pie. Everything was delicious and the service was great. Things to improve: some of the options in the menu were not available and the restrooms were a little dirty (nothing too bad though)

Just as good the second time around!

By January C |

This was my 2nd time eating here and it was just as good as the first. My husband and did the large shareable plate for two. The fried okra appetizer is a must and I don’t even like okra. The chicken is amazing and OMG the brownie is huge and delicious!

A relaxing (and abundant) bbq

By AntonioAmendola |

Bottom line: I recommend this place. I'm new in town and this is the first BBQ place I visit in Dallas. I was satisfied. Great portions, brisket well cooked and tender. Good ribs. Great locations and laid back atmosphere What it takes for a pleasant evening in Dallas

The best BRISKET in Dallas!

By CMPTexas |

Whenever we fly into Dallas Love Field, we drive to the nearby restaurant on Maple Ave. We met family and had their fried okra appetizer, which is the entire pod, not little slices, and plenty of them. Their Brisket is the BEST! Juicy and cut-with-a-fork tender. Their sausage and homemade sides, like their mac & cheese and oven-roasted Brussels sprouts are a killer. Order by the pound, or parts of a pound, your main dish. Served with a glass bottle of homemade BBQ sauce, and there you have it, the best BBQ in Dallas! The wait staff are terrific and courteous. Free valet parking across the street for dinner. You won’t push away from the table hungry.

OK but NOT GREAT

By Gary D |

While in Dallas we decided to get BBQ. My wife and I ordered and received our order. The brisket that I ordered was dry and cut too thick to be enjoyable. In my hometown, the meat is cut thinner and is served moist with natural juices. This was dry and that detracted from the flavor. I would not return to that restaurant for BBQ.

Not the worst, but definitely not the best BBQ

By Texan6617 |

The is St Louis style not Texas BBQ, so there is a difference. There were seven of us for dinner. The burnt ends appetizer was wet and very fatty. The fries were delish. None of us really cared for the brisket, but our standard for excellence is Franklin's in Austin. Collectively we agreed this was a 6 on a scale of 1 to 10. Cool building. The food was kind of pricey for what it was.

Great BBQ for Uptown

By Dawn C |

My boyfriend found this place scrolling on the internet. It was a rainy night around 8:00 and we were wanting take out. While most of the places were closed or about to close, he came across this place. We came home and unloaded our food that was very nicely packaged. We were impressed by this itself. For our sides, we ordered collard greens, baked beans and fried okra. From the very first bite to the last, we were both satisfied with the quality of the food. Their portions are generous which was in our favor as we had leftovers the next night. If your in the area, this is by far one of the most best tasting barbeque places around! Customer service could use some work but hey we ordered take out!

It’s Good!

By Sharon C |

Stopped at this place that was recommended by several people. Let me first start off by saying Isaac our server was excellent! All I can say is it was not a bad choice! I started with a margarita call the Mexicutioner, Jimmy had one of the House beers and for an appetizer we had fried brussels sprouts. I ordered the Burnt Ends shepherds pie it is a definite must have I am not a barbecue type person but this was really, really delicious! My brother got the burnt ends, the spicy sausage and the mac & cheese. The sausage was good, kind of spicy for someone who does not like spices but was not too spicy for either one of us.

Yummy authentic barbecue

By Diana S |

Being from the northeast, barbecue has a whole different swing down in TX. No burgers or steak, but the ribs, brisket and chicken we had were excellent. The fries were great too, with one serving enough to share.

Sooo good!

By January C |

Came to Dallas on a girls weekend getaway and dined here. It was absolutely delicious. I do not like okra at all and one of my friends ordered the fried okra for an appetizer and holy moly it was amazing! Between the four of we had the half chicken, brisket, ribs and salmon. I have to say the salmon was incredible. It was all good but the chicken was my second favorite. I will definitely be taking my husband back!

Okra and burnt ends are unbelievable

By Kayla M |

Friendly staff and amazing food. A little pricey but worth it for a nice atmosphere. BBQ sauce and okra sauce were "drinkable". Overall it's a diamond in the rough.

Great KC style BBQ and Great Kids Menu

By TwoPieceandABiscuit |

The restaurant looks like a house and has a beautiful atmosphere. Waitstaff is dressed in blue shirts and are very attentive. As in KC, they have at least 3 boulevard beers on tap. We were amazed at the wonderful kids menu with plenty of non BBQ items to choose from and great coloring pages. They fry the okra whole and it is perfection. The brisket is tender juicy and very flavorful. The brisket does not need sauce, but their sauce is fantastic so I added a bit to kick it up a notch. Great BBQ and if you close your eyes you would swear you were in KC eating good BBQ.

Awesome!

By Lonnie S |

We took a change on this place we found on internet while staying in Dallas. Wow, what a great little gem. Very laid back, no need to dress up. No waiting. The food was delicious. The homemade sausage was the best I ever had, and the brisket melted in your mouth. Wait staff was great, the manager stopped by to chat with us. Highly recommend, will definitely return when in Dallas again.

Pretty darn good

By Amanda W |

We stopped here en route to Austin, TX midday on a Saturday afternoon. We ordered the burnt ends appetizer and brisket and turkey combo plate. Everything was very tasty, especially the turkey. It was very moist and had great flavor. The portions are a bit small for the price considering other "upscale" BBQ places I've been (Jack's Stack BBQ in Kansas City), but it was fun to try a new place. The burnt ends had more of a sweet glaze on them as compared to KC burnt ends. All in all it was good and I'd eat there again if I was in the area.

DoorDash delivery disappoints

By TRJRM |

Mediocre bbq by Texas standards. Brisket was not tender yet fatty. Portions small. Sides were average. The coleslaw was disappointing. Beans ok, but lots of sauce, more like bean soup. Mac and cheese was fine. Overall, nothing special. Door dash delivery to hotel - restaurant didn’t send utensils or plates. I called manager who said they only include plates upon request, but I should have received utensils. Really? Send a fork and knife, maybe because they think you don’t have them, but not a plate, because maybe they think you have that? Can just do better for delivery, so I wouldn’t order from here.

Loved it

By Stephen Owen |

Was told about this by people at the hotel we were staying in nearby, so popped in for a bite to eat. Great atmosphere, food was really good and decent value, and the wait team (Hillary??) spot on with the service. Not a fussy place in any way - and a good place to spend a Saturday evening. Liked the range of beers as well.....

Great new Restaurant.

By WahineSistah |

We were visiting family in Dallas and decided to try this new (at least new to us) restaurant. They have an impressive beer selection but the headliner is the BBQ. We tried Trimmed Brisket and Pulled Pork. Both were very good. The seasoned Fries (hey there...you spelled seasoned wrong on the machine-printed ticket) are delicious and the portions were very generous. They were preparing for a special event upstairs but allowed us to look around anyway. There is a good-sized area for event space so check that out if you need one. The meal was affordable and we found the staff friendly and the table comfortable.

Underwhelming

By Patrice N |

As mentioned in the title, this place is underwhelming. My family and I came to this restaurant because of it's great reviews and left quite disappointed. The bbq was underwhelming and the service was terrible. We eventually ended up with a different server by the end of the night as though we annoyed our original server but he did a poor the entire night from greeting us to taking our orders, not being able to answer any of the menu questions we had and ultimately delivering the wrong orders. Bad service on top of "eh" food made for a wasted night out.

Pricey Burnt Ends

By Jon from Dallas |

OK people...I get it. Go with the $double $digits Burnt Ends starter, because apparently that's the dish that folks love at 18th & Vine. Unfortunately, we skipped the Burnt Ends and opted for the Two 'Que Plate with ribs and brisket and BBQ mashed potatoes. More on that later. The BBQ Caesar and Chopped salads were substantial and well-prepared, as they should be for barely under $double $digits...no complaints here on the salads. So, bring on that slice of KC BBQ! Wait! What? Is that it? Two skinny dried-up over-cooked stuck-on-the-bone ribs, two thin slices of brisket, a small ramekin of creamy BBQ mashed potatoes, four dill pickle slices and a dollop of pickled onions on paper. That's all we get for our sweat-of-the-brow $19? Well, this handsome old-looking new house that replaces the torn-down real old house may be a prime piece of Crow real estate, but the rent hardly justifies the steep BBQ prices. For decades Maple Ave. has been treasured for its unpretentious good food and drink at a fair price. The eclectic list of successful ethnic eateries within walking distance of 18th & Vine is notable. I dare say, these portions and prices would never fly at the real 18th & Vine in KC, and I'm thinking they won't fare well here at Maple & Throckmorton in Big D. Enjoy your Burnt Ends!

Absolutely Amazing!!!!!

By SPadgett17 |

Wonderful atmosphere, great service and even better food! Ribs, brisket, pulled pork and mashed potatoes are to die for!

High expectations met with few highlights

By midwstgirl |

I was so looking forward to eating here. I used to live in Kansas City and am a huge bbq fan. This place also touts tap Boulevard Wheat beer---a favorite from KC. Unfortunately, other than the beer (nice and cold), the smo-fried wings (get two orders they are awesome) and french fries (piping hot and great taste), brioche bun was fresh and warm; everything else seemed warmed up, not fresh. The brisket, pulled pork, sausage were luke warm at best and appeared to have been cooked day(s) before, refrigerated, then heated up. The other concern was the manager/owner had his mask under his nose the entire time we were there, which is not cool. Given the abundant terrific bbq in Dallas--Baby Back Shak, Slow Bone, Odoms, Famous Bubbas, Hardeman's, Cattleack...among dozens of others, this place didn't match up. If you go, go at happy hour for the discounted awesome wings /sauce and cold beer.

Belated Birthday dinner w friends

By Zakiyyah K |

The food was amazing. We ordered the burnt ends and smo-fried wings for appetizers and it was a perfect start. The Best burnt ends I’ve ever had period!! Wings were amazing they tied with my favorite smoke fried wings at Kennys smokehouse. Me and hubby ordered the platter for two. We chose all ribs for the meats even though we had option to choose two meats because we were so pleased by the appetizers that we ordered second order. So we wanted to just go with one meat. You could literally bathe in the sauce and rib tips. 🤤 😋 next the sides we ordered collard greens and baked beans so delish!!!! Overall experience was really really good!! It’s our new bbq spot! It’s a 55 min drive from where we live but it’s worth every mile we drove to get there. We learned of it from the travel channel!! Worth your while for sure!!

Good for "that other" BBQ

By kristef2017 |

Burnt ends are delicious! The jalapeño sausage is the best I've ever had no joke. Huge pieces of jalapeño & cheese pieces stuffed inside with a crispy exterior. The cheesy grits however were very bland, I would steer clear if I was you. Pit master Matt Dallman knows his sausage that's for sure & was very welcoming. This is an upscale Kansas City BBQ joint, so if your looking for TX BBQ on the cheap on town paper this ain't the place. Will for sure be back for the burnt ends, jalapeño cheese sausage & their spicy BBQ sauce! I'd give it 3 1/2 stars if I could.

You must go here if you're in Dallas

By Richard M |

The food was very good. The burnt ends as an appetizer were meat candy. Good draft beer selection. Our server was Hillary. She was great and made the evening extra special. She deserves a bonus. Don't order desert; it was disappointing.

A great gem in Dallas

By Steve S |

Found it on Open Table, loved it. Bar vibe was great, good cocktails and excellent beer list. BBQ was 1st rate. Ribs were great, not fall of the bone (that is over rated) just good and meaty.

1st timer

By sooners0 |

An excellent change of pace option over other good local Texas smokehouse BBQ places. Matt's Pick is good way to try things. Pulled pork really good.

Underrated!

By Kelly K |

Underrated bbq restaurant perfect for a business lunch. The serving sizes are perfect, the decor professional and sleek with a jazz vibe, and the price is right. Great food! Big fan of the salmon sandwich and the pulled pork.

Outstanding BBQ

By Brandon P |

We just finished lunch here. Very nice environment and the food was outstanding! For an appetizer, we split the smoked salmon. High quality cut of fish cooked perfectly. I ordered the brisket untrimmed with a side of pit beans for lunch. This BBQ definitely makes my top 5 cut and I've eaten at hundreds of BBQ restaurants.

Excellent food, service, beer!

By Theresa1502 |

Our server Jerry was exceptional. Great recommendations. Had the burnt ends (meat candy)for dessert! For lunch the group had pulled pork, turkey, ribs, and Texas chili. The chili was the best we ever tasted, just the right amount of spice. All the meats were smoked to perfection. Both sauces served at the table accompanied the meats perfectly! Jerry our waiter was always there with everything and tea fill ups without even asking.

Good food, below average service

We went there with another couple. The food was very good. We tried every form of their BBQ. Their jalapeño sausage is probably too hot for many patrons. A little goes a long way. We did not try some of their unusual dishes like BBQ Stroganoff. We also had two of their unusual appetizers -- fried okra (whole spears in a flavorful batter) and BBQ salmon spread. They were delightful, and there were others I would have liked to have tried. The deserts were good too -- home made vanilla ice cream and fried apple pie. The service, however, was weak. Our waiter kept trying to clear our plates even though we were not finished. He also did not notice we needed replacement silverware when he took what we had when he cleared the plates for our appetizers and main course. I think our waiter was in his first waiter job. The atmosphere was pleasant. We will go again.

This Was Special!

By Don K |

While nearing the end of a business trip to Dallas, I could not fathom another hotel meal and opted for some barbecue...and what a great call I made. My Uber driver told me this quaint establishment is in uptown, a clearly trendy, upscale area. The restaurant looks more like a repurposed home than a commercial operation, with the wooden tables and benches outside a welcome affirmation that I had found the right place. I was early for my reservation and still had to wait as the place looked packed, even on an early summer Tuesday evening. Dinner started with a delicious and not too light draft Golden Mustache, a local lager brewed by Oak Highlands Brewery. I ordered a plate of smoked brisket and sausage, accompanied by Brussel sprouts. The brisket was marbled, which enhanced exquisite flavor. Tender and succulent, the house BBQ sauce accented the meat perfectly. The sausage was homemade, with a hint of peppers that put the spice level just north of mild. The Brussel sprouts were grilled to the outsides were crispy...and no doubt the best Brussel sprouts into which this foodie has ever stuck a fork. Hungry for dessert, I skipped the sugar and went back for a half pound of slow cooked pulled pork. My server Samantha put a bottle of vinegar-based North Carolina BBQ sauce in front of me and told me that I needed to try that sauce with the pork. And what a spectacular recommendation! I savored that meat until the very last shred! By the way, the service was top-shelf. The servers were professional, polite and attentive without being hovering. A+. 18th and Vine was so good it will be a mandatory stop on my next trip to Dallas. It's upscale, creative and value-laden...with food that I found exceptional.

Burnt ends are to die for

By Miki and Jeff R |

We went to this restaurant because we wanted BBQ that was close to us and I can say that we were not disappointed. We ordered the burnt ends to have as an appetizer and after eating those we wished we had ordered more for our main meal. all of the food was great and the wait staff was very attentive to our needs.

TV & Beer

By MFF20 |

Stopped by this restaurant to watch the second half of an Euro 2016 game and drink a beer. Staff was very kind to me and they changed the tv channel immediately to the football game I wanted to watch and they were very nice to me all the time. I drank two beers and everything was great except for the drinks menu list which was a bit dirty and folded. Other than that, a really nice restaurant/bar worth going. I want to go in the near future to taste their food!

Outstanding KC BBQ in Texas!

By tmiller253 |

I was in Dallas for a few days with a friend for a conference. We wanted to get BBQ while we were here as we both live places that are not known for memorable BBQ. I googled best BBQ in Dallas and came up with a great short article on 5 restaurant (four were in or near downtown where we were staying and one was a few miles up the road in Richardson. We only had Sunday evening available to go out for BBQ and when I checked the restaurants in that article near downtown, three were closed on Sundays. All of them were listed as Texas BBQ. One that was open on Sundays was considered a Kansas City BBQ joint. Not what I really wanted in Texas, though I do love KC BBQ as well. The author of the article obviously thought well of it to include it so we went. Holy cow! We were not disappointed in any way. We started with burnt ends as an appetizer and they were excellent. We shared a really big chopped salad that was amazing. The iceberg lettuce was fresh and tasted like it just came out of the garden. The salad contained tomatoes, blue cheese, bacon, avocado, and a very light house dressing that did not cover the taste of the other ingredients. We each ordered a Two Que plate that had your choice of two types of meat and a side. We shared everything to get the most out of our visit there. The brisket was tender, flavorful and juicy with layers of flavor. The pulled pork had a nice mix of bark and was not dry at all and again had layers of flavor. The homemade (in the reataurant) sausage links are off the charts with a slow build up of flavors that seem to reveal more layers with every bite. There is nothing overpowering or dominant, just great flavor. The pork ribs were pretty amazing as well. The meat was tender on the inside with a proper char on the outside and came cleanly off the bone. Again, layers of flavor. My buddy had never had BBQ turkey so we ordered a quarter pound. I have to say, I don’t think I ever want to eat turkey again...unless it’s from here! It was amazing breast meat that was juicy and very tender with layers of flavor. The head chef/ pit boss wasn’t in on Sunday to complement in person, so hats off to him and I hope he reads this. Finally, we tried the fried apple pies with sweet sour cream- really tasty! We also tried the blueberry, lemon cobbler. Ok, who’s grandmother is in the kitchen making this and where is the blueberry patch these fresh tasty berries came from?? The staff at this restaurant is excellent. Warm, friendly and happy to answer questions and talk about the great food with you. This place is amazing and I can not recommend it enough. I will be back next time I’m in Dallas - I will have to try the original in KC next time I’m there as well.

Great BBQ

By g97traveler |

This place has great BBQ. We were looking for a good BBQ place on a recent trip to Dallas. We found it. The place was very busy and we weren't able to get a reservation until later in the evening. The service was prompt and polite. The food and appetizers were delivered promptly. The Brisket and Mac & Cheese were both delicious. We'll be back.

In a city with a LOT of good BBQ, 18th & Vine is right at the top

By Randy Thompson |

My son had told me about 18th & Vine and said he thought I would like it. So I went by for lunch last week and was not at all disappointed with what I found. While I was told the style was more Kansas City than Texas, I wasn't exactly sure what that meant. But when I saw Burnt Ends on the appetizer list, and then brisket, pulled pork and chicken sandwiches on the lunch menu, I knew I was in for a treat. I had the pulled pork sandwich with the jalapeno grits and found both of them amazing. Truthfully, the menu here is pleasantly simple and straightforward. Not a huge array of choices to go through which to me was fine. This place knows what it is and doesn't try to be anything else. I will for sure be back to try some of their other dishes very soon. The only problem with the place is parking in REALLY limited. I parked across the street and hoped like crazy my car was not towed away while at lunch. But thankfully it was still there. Next time I will ask if it is okay to park there.

Try out the Brisket

By Sloan13 |

Came in mid-afternoon for a late lunch with friends. The pulled pork, brisket and fried okra were amazing. There were 6 of us and we ate so much and still took home several boxes. The service was excellent - very attentive. There are so many BBQ places in Dallas and this one gets a recommendation from us!

Fantastic BBQ, but lopsided meal packages...

By VeryWellTraveledGuy |

Ordered dinner for 10 to pick up, 4 giant trays of tasty BBQ including tender brisket, juicy chicken and slabs of ribs (average, not fall of the bone). The only real downside to the meal was the TINY portions of sides included, basically 2 pints that would NEVER feed 10 people. Other than that, rock solid meal...

Fantastic Ribs and overall ‘Que!!

By Ricco M |

All around great experience. From the attentive service by our brilliant server Jason to the fantastic ribs, burnt ends, brisket, and salads, I can’t recommend 18th and Vine enough. Definitely worth the trip, and pick up some BBQ sauce to go!

A Neighborhood Gem

By ProfDallas |

If you have never tried Kansas City style barbecue, this place is authentic. As far as any barbecue goes, 18th & Vine stands out among the best. We loved the cute house location, everything we sampled was awesome, and the service was outstanding. Have the empanadas for dessert.

Not worth the trip. Save yourself

By keithspinden |

Not worth the trip. Save yourself and go to any of the dozens of quality BBQ restaurants near this place, this shouldn’t be counted as one of them. Decent food marred by questionable value framed by outright argumentative and surly management, do not waste your time or money.

Delightful dinner

By Melissa K |

JUST got back from dinner at this restaurant and was very pleased. Started with burnt tips- tender and tasty, caramelized and sweet. I ordered The Dizzy - pulled pork ( sliders because they were out of the regular rolls, and I think it was perfect that way) with slaw. My husband ordered a rack of ribs and we shared a BBQ Caesar salad, Brussels sprouts, and BBQ mashed potatoes. Everything was delicious, the service was lovely.

Disappointed overall

By DreamingofEstes |

Went to this restaurant as my husband loves BBQ. It was extremely expensive and the worst part was the portions given. We ordered appetizers as we had a large table of six people for a birthday. We ordered potato skins and literally three halves of potatoes came. We just stared at the plate. Crazy! It would have been nice if the waitress had told us how many this might feed. Like one or two people maybe. Won't be going back. Not to mention valet service.

Upscale bbq

Interesting KC bbq place. Good pulled pork, nice bbq beans, disappointing jalapeño cheese grits - no heat, no cheese. Great service, nice location. Prices readonable for Dallas.

Disgusted, disappointed and shocked with how I was treated

By De M |

I just placed and order for the first time using Uber eats. My driver calls me stating that she has arrived and has been told that my food is no longer there. I call the Resturant to explain the driver that appears on my app by name, car description and contact number is stating my food has been given away. I explain this to a young lady I believe by the name of Morgan she puts me on hold (I was hoping to provide clarity) however after about 5minutes a young man picks up the phone and ask why I am holding. I asked did the young lady explain what happened, he proceeds to tell me that he is really busy right now and can not handle this at this time. I said excuse me I have just ordered $50 worth of food from your location and you don’t have time to hear this. He proceeds to tell me I need to go back through Uber eats go through the dispute process to get my money back and then reorder. He reassured me that the order was given to the driver Antonia a while ago and confirmed. In shock I say okay, get off the phone with him call Antonia and asked would she please go inside the location as I call back so it can be confirmed that she is indeed the person that picked up the food. I call the location back and let the young man know Antonia would be coming in, he then goes on a rampage about how he not going to argue back and forth with me about this situation the food was giving to the driver . I stop him and say this is not an argument at all I’m a paying customer with a valid concern that you seem to be blowing off. I am the only person in this situation who have no idea what’s going on. I paid for a delivery it has not arrived, you say it left a while ago, however the driver is saying that your staff has given my paid for food away because she just arrived to your location. I can verify that because Uber eats tracks the car. He proceeds to quickly speak being very sarcastic and antagonist saying oh yeah every thing is our fault we are such terrible people and never do anything right (At this point I’m hoping this is like a kid because it was very child like). He then says yeah great now someone is here yelling, I hear the driver Antonia trying to explain to him that the young lady gave the food to another driver because she is an Antiona and can verify it. He then yells at me this is what I will do I will just pay for the food out of my pocket and it will be on the way since you don’t understand things that are facts. By this time I am livid I tell him sir do you know where I am, I am sitting in the cAncer center with my sick husband I placed and order to a business you are not doing me any favors by replacing what I have already paid for. He yelled again I will just pay for it out my pocket. I’m completely digusted by the lack of just basic courtesy, some one messed up, it had nothing to do with me, but this is how I am being treated. I will not be able to rate the food because when it arrives I am trashing it. I will then have to leave my husband and son to go find food.. I am not from Dallas my husband was transferred from another hospital here two days ago. You can have the best quality food in the world but if you have this type of careless rude people working for you, it’s all a waste.

Food good - customer service....MEH!!

By Stacy E |

Well, I have to say the food is excellent but the experience - not so much. Made a reservation for 6pm, walk in to no one there. Our preference was to be seated in the bar area. Without looking us in the eye, there was some unclear excuse about a large party reservation for all the tables in the bar.....ok. Honestly think it had something to do with the fact that we walked in with our 12 and 9 year old. We are seated in a nice booth along the wall - no problem. The waitstaff is still in training so not everything goes smoothly but they are so eager and cordial, it's hard to say anything negative. The meal was great - recommend the burnt ends, brisket, ribs among others. Now the fun part - the desserts. Assorted cookies are on the menu so we requested that all in the order (4) be chocolate chip. No problem right? Wrong - something so simple and got some excuse as to why the "kitchen" wouldn't let them do it. So - plan B.....a scoop of ice cream with ONE chocolate chip cookie. Our sweet waitress couldn't bear to deny us again so the manager/owner came over to tell us the news.....no can do. Again, the "kitchen" won't let them. Well, she seemed like she had some authority..... I won't even go into how the manager/owner lady couldn't wait to take our credit card to pay - so rude and uncomfortable. So - all in all...I'm not going back any time soon - in spite of the good food. There are too many good BBQ places it this city where we actually feel appreciated. We'll be going there for a while. Oh - and when we walked out, I stuck my head in the bar to check out the "large" party. Funny - never met a large party that didn't all want to sit at the same tables. Peace!!

The good, the bad and the ugly

By Candytxn |

Our party arrived early and were seated in the Roost where we enjoyed great jazz and mediocre margaritas. Once seated downstairs we admired the tall windows and open décor of the room, and ordered a second round of margaritas which were so bad that we sent them back and switched to wine. Though slow to show and absent most of the evening, when the waitperson did arrive, our order of starters of pit-fired oysters and BBQ charcuterie were good omens of the Kansas City style BBQ rack of ribs and Two 'Que plate of juicy brisket and ribs with a side of cauliflower steak which were all delicious. The darker it became outside the dimmer it became inside until our group could hardly see and we expected the lights to brighten somewhat to correct the situation but it never happened. At the same time the decibel of the patrons voices rose to sound more like a sporting event than a restaurant. The combination of these two environmental experiences made our departure a relief and sadly, I doubt we will return.

Great recommendation from a local.

By velvetn2013 |

We asked around town for a great BBQ place. We were staying on Oak Lawn so this place continued to come up in conversation. We decided to try it on a Monday night. We made a reservation for 6:45 and didn't need to. I guess the place is slower on Mondays because there was plenty of seating. I felt the service was fantastic. Our waiter told us the entire story of how the owner started the restaurant which included him starting with one smoker in his back alley. He made fantastic recommendations and even made other restaurant recommendations in the area. We had the potato skins for an appetizer (awesome and unique sour cream flavor), the two 'que plate with smoked turkey and brisket with mac and cheese, and the dizzy with grits and mashed potatoes. The smoked meats were on point and full of that smokey flavor we love. I'd highly recommend the two que plate and don't skip the brisket. The BBQ sauce was the perfect compliment. My favorite side was the mashed potatoes. They still had the skin on them and were a perfect combination of creamy with a few lumps. I'm from the southeast so our grits and mac and cheese didn't taste quite like the way we make them at home. Nothing bad. Just different from the way I normally like them. I'll definitely be returning on my next trip to Dallas.

Chose turkey breast and low and slow beef brisket. Apple cider slaw as a great side dish. Portions were generous and delicious. The restaurant was clean and the wait staff were attentive. Would visit again.

Adds Diversity to Dallas' BBQ Scene

By Suzana K |

I really like this place. It's nice to have some diversity in an otherwise mediocre BBQ scene. Don't get me wrong Dallas has some great BBQ place but, by no means a plethora of options. 18th & Vine provides a nice choice in the field. The service is always courteous and the food is good too. Some of my favorites include the wing and fried okra.

Really good BBQ; service a tad uneven.

By JWK1969 |

My first trip to this place, and the food did not disappoint. Their BBQ sauce is excellent, with a good kick. Goes well with ribs and chicken (what I had). Their seasoned fries were good, too, and didn't require ketchup. The only negative was that the service was a little off. Not much, mind you, and they were very friendly and content to let us hang out a bit. But could have been just a bit better and that would have resulted in an "excellent". All in all, I would definitely go back.

Amazing Brisket & Sausage

By CMPTexas |

Arrived in Dallas before Thanksgiving and our niece brought us here for BBQ. Just wanted something other than a hamburger for lunch. WOW! What a pleasant surprise. The beef brisket was smoked to perfection, juicy and tender. Probably the most delicious I've had, EVER! And I don't make that claim lightly. I am a native Texan and I've eaten a lot of brisket in my 57 years all across the state. The side order of fried okra is a must. This isn't your typical bag of frozen battered stuff you get everywhere else. This is the whole okra pod, lightly battered and non-greasy, served with a delicious chipotle-flavored ranch type dressing. Again, WOW! We ordered the "MATT'S PICKS" and had the sausage and chicken, along with the brisket. The sausage tasted as if it was home-made and also very delicious, with a little cheese and peppers infused in the grind. Not a course grind, but a very fine grind sausage which made it pleasant to eat. Their bread tasted homemade, not the "out of the Wonder package" you generally get at other BBQ joints. The ambiance is pleasant and service staff very, VERY helpful and courteous. Also, only expect to pay a few dollars more than any of the other chains that are out there. I'd rather pay a few extra dollars and get much better food here and 18th & Vine. I'll be back!!!

Best KC BBQ in Dallas

By Lesley M |

Best barbecue I’ve had since being in Dallas. Hillary provided great service, excellent advice on the menu and our lunches arrived within minutes. This was our first visit here and we enjoyed tender, moist pulled pork, sliced brisket, burnt ends and the house made sausage. Each was deliciously flavorful with ample portions. For sides we had the apple cider slaw (could have eaten twice as much) and their baked beans had a wonderful blend of seasonings. The atmosphere in what looks to be a converted house is relaxed and comfortable with additional seating outside as well as a full bar. Enjoy for yourselves - we’ll definitely be back!

Terrific BBQ with wonderful twists

By Allen727286 |

I love Kansas City BBQ and this place seems to be borrowing from that book as well as providing their own innovations. Good bar drinks (unlike most Texas BBQ places) start the meal off nicely. The oysters app is terrific and the fried okra is the best in town. We also had the burnt ends which is a KC specialty and they were great. Brisket was terrific and the ribs outstanding. Closed with good desserts for a truly great meal. Service was good but not intrusive. Ate between 7 and 8:30 and the room was prohibitively loud (many people love that energy). Would probably come earlier to be able to talk. Look forward to going back.

Should have just left

By Lynnedeb |

My family arrived for our 7:00 pm reservation and we were awkwardly greeted by the hostess, who then brought another woman over who told us that several smaller parties ended up being larger so we would have to wait 15 minutes or so for our table. She told us we could wait at the bar if there were seats. She walked us into the bar where we sat for at least ten minutes watching the bartenders mix drinks. The bartenders did not look at us, no one offered us drink menus, we thought about leaving, but had read the reviews so thought we would stay and give it a try. Finally one of the bartenders mumbled in our direction that he would be with us in a minute. He never was....the woman set up a table in the bar for us so we sat down. I ordered the fried chicken which was pretty good, but was served after the rest of my family had their meal for 5 minutes. My family's meals were lukewarm. The ribs were really good. Everything else was okay. We were pretty disappointed with the greeting and the food. Would only recommend the ribs. We left feeling like we should have left when we were ignored at the bar.

It was an acceptable choice with some items worth raving about, others not so much.

By Tara H |

Appetizer (burnt ends) and chopped salad were both great. Didn't care for BBQ sauce but brisket was really good without sauce. Ribs were too tough and had a funny flavor to me also. Fried peach pie with sweetened sour cream was a real treat tho. So for 2 beers, shared appetizer, shared salad, we each had our own entree and shared dessert.... $100. ($84 ticket plus $16 tip) Not worth that. If I had to choose again would go elsewhere. The staff was amazing.

Chicken Great, Beware of the Beans

By GRO3 |

I enjoyed the options they had including the chicken a d the mashed potatoes. We had four people in our party that ordered a side of beans and ended up with gastrointestinal distress for the following 24 hours. Everyone who didn't have the beans was fine. The atmosphere suggests an uptown BBQ restaurant however the BBQ leaves quite a bit to be desired especially for Texas. I cannot give more than two points to this establishment due to the illness that befell our group the next day.

Early Valentine's Day dinner....

By Mary G |

Restaurant is in a "house", in the Oak Lawn area. My boyfriend had heard it was considered one of the hot new restaurants in DFW, so surprised me by taking me there for our early Valentine's Day dinner. Our reservation was for 6:15. It was not busy at all. First impressions found it to have a really cool bar. Dining room is just okay. There are no window coverings, and if you go as the sun is setting, look out, you will be looking right into it. When we asked to sit elsewhere, we were graciously offered a table-at the upstairs bar. Think cool, dark, old pictures on the wall, all with jazz and blues softly playing in the background. We were impressed, and secretly glad our dining room seating did not work out. Bar is not very big, and seating is limited, both of which make it cozy and inviting. Two bartenders helped us, and were top notch, ensuring we had a second drink on the way before the first was gone. Nice wine selection, as well as decent beer on tap. Now to the food. This is a BBQ place, so of course you get the usual, pulled pork, brisket, ribs, burnt ends, etc. They also have a menu which is a little more refined, including salmon and quail. Sides are a la carte unless part of a meal. My boyfriend ordered the burnt ends, basically beef rib tips, and got the coleslaw and the fries. I got the two meat plate, which came with one side, so ordered the jalapeño cheese grits. The pulled pork and burnt ends, were fabulous. Brisket was a little too fatty for my liking. Coleslaw was vinaigrette based, and was very light and refreshing. Grits were creamy and had just enough spice. Fries were crispy and well seasoned. Fries and slaw were large enough to share. All in all, a really good meal, with a great atmosphere. We will be back, if only for drinks and an appetizer.

Best ribs in a very long time

By tryan999 |

First experience, but I will go back any time I'm in Dallas. If I could have shipped home a large vat of their barbecue sauce I would be so happy! Excellent ribs, and the cheese grits were good - not fabulous. Limited by the need for GF, so missed out on the mac & cheese that made my friend so happy. The waiter knew just what I needed to avoid for GF, which is very helpful when there is nothing marked on the menu. Thought at first I would have to leave a rib or two behind, but that didn't happen!

Family share option

By AuroraDiner |

For a large group I think the family share was a good option . I only had the chicken and thought it was cooked well , and had a great flavor . I really liked the spice to the beans and the sausage was good ,but only for those that liked spicy . I ordered the okra as I had seen they classed as a speciality , but I was disappointed as I thought it was greasy and without flavor . No complaints on anything else and I'd go back again . We had the cookies for the table to finish , and they got good feedback .

An enjoyable evening!

By Karen G |

We went to 18th &Vine BBQ based on the recommendation of our hotel and we had a blast. We were able to enjoy a live jazz concert who were amazing. I don't remember the name of the band but it was such a pleasure listening to them play all the familiar jazz hits. I didn't want to leave. Will definitely go back to this place the next time I'm in town.

Love the BBQ sauce!

Love the BBQ sauce! Quaint restaurant in a renovated house. Many good entree and salad choices. Enjoyable background music but still Able to hold a conversation with friends.

Good lunch spot before AT&T Stadium

By JDinLA |

This was a nice restaurant before our trek out to Arlington. The reason we chose it was because we were eight people and were able to make online reservations for two tables of four. Because the reservation was for 2PM, they put our tables together in the bar area. Don't miss the fried okra! The brisket tips were good, but not sure if they were worth the money for the amount you got. Nice wine and beer selection.

Very good

By Jan V |

Great restaurant, quick service, good beverage, nice service. I’ve only eaten in the bar area, but service has always been friendly and just right. Also good lunch selection and food quality has been great.

Kitschy mix of upscale and BBQ

By COLadyRoadWarrior |

I really enjoyed my lunchtime visit to this restaurant. On the one hand, it is very comfortable and somewhat sophisticated. On the other hand, well, you are at a barbecue restaurant, eating with your hands and spilling sauce everywhere. The barbecue certainly wasn't the best I've ever had, my brisket was a little bit dry, but it was still very tasty. Our service was friendly, crisp, and professional. The atmosphere is a little bit too sanitized for a barbecue restaurant, you certainly know you are at a chain. However, it's this level of sophistication that makes this restaurant appropriate for business meetings and more special occasions.

All Hype, No Bang

By kyle214 |

Friendly and prompt service in a very nice setting, a converted home. The pulled pork seemed to be fresh out of a crock pot with no smokey flavor nor any discernible smoke ring. The burnt ends had an okay caramelized sauce but also lacked smoke flavor. Collard greens were amazing, very tender in a liquor that was equally sweet and savory. Not a good sign, when a side dish is the highlight of a BBQ meal.

Agent

By Judith M |

The appetizers were the best part of the meal. The Pork Skins, Fried Okra, and Burned Ends were delicious. The ribs and brisket were dry and tasteless. The mac n cheese was tasteless and the sauce was broken. The cheese and grits were a gooey paste. The brussel sprouts were average. The peach cobbler lacked flavor and the texture was mushy, the pecan were soggy and the topping was dry and sand like. Overall, not worth going again.

Undercooked Chicken

By Adam & Jacqui |

I visited this restaurant today with my partner for Valentine's Day dinner. We booked our table nearly a week prior, however upon arrival at the very rude male host advised us that he'd "see what he could do" about getting us a table and we were asked to wait in the bar. Not a great start as we arrived about two minutes early to our booking. We were unable to sit at the bar or even get a drink as all seats around the bar were full of diners and the bar staff were not interested in serving anyone else. We were then shown to our table about 20 mins after arrival, things were looking up as our server came straight over and took our drinks and food orders promptly and politely. We received our starters/appetizers quickly, however the mains also arrives within minutes of the starters so this made for a very crowded table! Also my main was incorrect (ordered chicken, received sausage) but again this was dealt with promptly by our server. Following the arrival of the missing chicken I discovered that although the breast meat was cooked (just!) the meat around the bone was very undercooked and red, making it partially inedible. After explaining this to our server he did apologise and offer to comp the chicken but we declined the offer and left as soon as possible. My partner enjoyed her meal in it's entirety. We booked this meal on the basis of its reviews and inclusion within lists of the best BBQ in Dallas, and only provide this review to prevent further misrepresentation.

Excellent KC style BBQ

By anthonycK6621AO |

Had dinner there on a recent business trip to Dallas. They are definitely KC style and they are definitely really good at it! Try the burnt ends appetizer if you get there.

Sadly disappointing.

By Cory049 |

We had been looking forward to dining here after all of the opening buzz. We were very disappointed in the experience. The service is mediocre at best. Our waiter seemed like he was trying to be funny/charming but it came across more as not really knowing what he was doing. Barely knew how some of the items were prepared. The selection of wines by the glass is very lacking. The descriptions of the food sounded amazing. We had 2 selections from the non-BBQ side of the menu. The overly excessive amount of salt used in both dishes (Beef cheek and Brisket stroganoff) made the dishes almost inedible. We are still drinking water to try to rehydrate! And the dressing on the chopped salad had so much vinegar in it, it too was very unpleasant. On a bright note, the okra is delicious. The restaurant was crowded, but there are so many places to dine in Dallas that are much better. We will certainly not be returning - even to try the BBQ.

Surprisingly bad on every level

By RaiDoc |

The good first - a charming two storey house, with simple but welcoming layout. The not so good: The food - we specifically asked the server if the ribs were tender and fell off the bone - she guaranteed they did. So our entire table ordered them and what was received were dry, tough, tasteless chinks of beef. The fried OKRA - the oil used was clearly old. The much vaunted special home made sausages - far more bread filling than meat...so very dry like sawdust. The server - disinterested, curt, and uninformed. We had to constantly stop other servers to even refill our water or bring salt and pepper to the table as the ones we had were empty. Those servers were very polite however...but clearly the management does not believe in quality control. For Dallas to have a restaurant like this which is probably mostly patronized by visitors to the town is very disappointing and a bad reflection of the otherwise famous reputation Texas has for grilling and friendliness.

Great BBQ

Excellent food and service! Short Uber ride from downtown. The recommended vinegar sauce on the tables is amazing on the pulled pork!

Not your typical BBQ joint

By Bluesboy850 |

The current wife and I tried 18th and Vine after reading good things about the burnt ends. So glad we did! First, the building is fantastic. Beautiful, comfortable space that is more like a home converted into a restaurant than a typical space for barbecue. Jazz and blues is played while you drink local beer and admire the surroundings. We ordered a few items to get a sense of what this place is about. Burnt ends (of course), fried okra, handmade sausage and salmon dip. The burnt ends are KC style with them being sauced and returned to the smoker. Different than TX style and that's a good think in this case. The brisket was nicely rendered so the ends were a sweet, meaty, smoky treat. Very easy to finish a plate of them. The okra was a great, really great. It is sliced in half lengthwise and battered in something resembling a chicken fry batter, and then fried to perfection. The sausage was a pepper sausage, not jalapeno, but probably more of a red pepper flake spicy sausage. Really nice texture, not overly spicy. The surprise hit at the table was the smoked salmon dip. Normally I'm not a fan of smoked salmon but this was really nicely smoked and incorporated into a dip served with crisp tortilla wedges. The combination of a pitmaster and a chef really shows. I can't wait to return and bring my bbq-loving friends.

A Taste of KC in TX

By eDiner1010 |

My family and I dined at 18th & Vine this week and we all loved it! For starters, my Dad and I enjoyed a Boulevard Bob's 47 Ale, what a treat! But to go with the beer was the food and it was excellent. We started with an appetizer of burnt ends, they were rich and tasty!. For the main course we ordered "Matt's Pick's," It was brisket, pulled pork and chicken and they were ALL out of this world. You could taste the time and hard work that went into cooking the meats. We also got an order of fries and they were amazing! The sauces were excellent as well. Kansas City has the best BBQ in the world and it was awesome to get a taste of it down here in Texas. I have already recommended 18th & Vine and will defiantly go back!

Best BBQ in Dallas

By TexasShark73 |

I grew up in Kansas City. I moved to Dallas about 20 years ago and had not found a bbq place that equaled the Kansas City scene, until this place opened up. It is my favorite BBQ place in Texas. The food is so good. The burnt ends are a must. The ribs fall of the bone. True Kansas City Barbecue. They even have Charlie Parker on the kid's menu! This place is awesome and makes me so happy to be able to get KC bbq in Dallas.

Best BBQ I've ever had

By Robert Szklarz |

Everywhere that I travel, I like to try out a few of the same things so I can compare to different restaurants in different cities, BBQ is one of them. I've had some good BBQ before but this is one that really sticks with me and I've been comparing all of it to the brisket and burnt ends that I had here. The sides were good as well, but the meat is what stood out to me the most. I can't speak to everyone's experience here but it was the perfect mix for me of affordable and quality food. I loved the atmosphere of the building, it was warm and welcoming and the service was great as well. I will most likely make another trip back to Dallas so I can explore a little more of what is has to offer and I will most definitely be coming back to 18th & Vine BBQ.

Great find!

I've eaten lunch here three times in the last two week; once for business and twice for personal. Each time has been a very good experience. Our table couldn't decide on a sandwich because they all sounded so good. A decision was made to "cut and share" which worked well. The sandwiches are a good size for doing this, and our server gladly offered small plates to make it easier. My personal favorite is the brisket grilled cheese sandwich; YUM! As for dessert, the Crustada was fantastic. A baked puff dessert filled with fruit atop a lemon sauce and topped with homemade whip cream. Perfect for sharing. It's hard to find good quality BBQ in Dallas, but we now have a place to go!

A Must

By Ronald A |

You like pulled pork home made or special barbecue sauce. Great Atmosphere. Do not leave Dallas without trying. Fantastic food. Great Atmosphere and to the Chef great job. Service on top off it all. Business trip 11 hours in meetings. We went right to the restaurant. Great place to eat unwind relax and enjoy. The barbecue sauce you will empty the bottle. Food moist tender, and a lot of food. You will remember this place and want to go back. Before you leave finish it off with dessert. A must. You will not leave hungry and probably bring home some left overs.

VERY DISSAPOINTING

Don't bother, to many good places to go, the menu is not good and the food and service is very average, the BBQ is not good ,we actually tried 2 times to make sure and will not go back...sorry do not like giving bad reviews

Horrible service from the hostess to the bartender !

By norrell2016 |

My boyfriend and I went to the restaurant on a Weds. Evening. The greeting was horrible by some old European woman with an attitude! Attempt to sat us between two loud groups. We asked to sit at the bar instead. The bartender was a young Asian girl who took our drink orders. We informed her we wanted to order dinner too. It took her 20 mins. To take our order! Only 2 customers at the bar! Service was horrible! I would never eat or drink at this terrible restaurant! I will be sure to spread the word to all friends and co workers!

brand new and already feels like an old friend!

By biznews |

The first impression is great... it's new construction but looks like it operates from an old house with a high ceiling and wrap-around porch. The lower level is small..so reservations look like a must. Now, the important part. I never made it past the Burnt Ends appetizer! I paired with with a side-apple cider slaw and was done for the evening. My wife raved about the pulled-pork sandwich, jalapeno cheese grits and collard greens. We'll go back, but I don't think I'll ever make it past the burnt ends --too good to pass up.

Very disappointed

By jvmaddux |

As we love KC BBQ, we were very excited when this restaurant opened. We dined there in their first couple of weeks of being in business, and loved it. The service was excellent. The food was fantastic….a great experience. However, last week we had quite a different experience. As we had family visiting… we decided to bring them to 18th and Vine BBQ. Our folks are originally from Lawrence, KS, and, they were excited to see this place named after the famous jazz/BBQ area of Kansas City, MO. First the service was just o.k. The waiter was not engaging, and did not seem real happy to be there. He took our order with barely a nod, never a smile or suggestion. The drinks were brought to our table, and the outside of my wine glass had a sticky film on it. The inside of it seemed clean, so I ignored it. Then the food was brought to our table. The pulled pork was excellent. But, the folks with beans said they tasted like canned beans. And, my potatoes were good, but cold. However, the biggest disappointment was the brisket. It was mostly fat. When shining a light on the food, it was obvious we all had bad cuts of meat... but the chef/kitchen/server still passed this food off to us, their customer. I then made a comment to the folks at our table regarding my dirty wine glass….and, two other people said the same thing about their glassware…but, they were hesitant to complain. I left the table and talked to one of the managers, (I believe he was the bar manager?). He felt my glass, he acknowledged it was dirty and said he was appalled and that was unacceptable. He apologized, and said he would bring a bottle of complimentary wine to our table. So, I agreed. A few minutes later, he brought a bottle of wine and new wine glasses. However, the new wine glasses were also dirty! Every one of them had this sticky film. At this point, I said no thanks for the wine…and, was not happy, that this guy was just giving me lip service…. He obviously did not check the new wine glasses to see if they were clean….he just brought a new bottle and new glasses just to appease me. We did talk to several workers/managers/people at the restaurant. Everyone said they were sorry, and acted professional. They tried to make it right, and they comped our entire meal. We normally don’t complain…. we just never return to the establishment….but, because our first experience was so good…we thought we should bring this to their attention. It seems something has changed since our original visit….maybe service providers for the meat….or they are trying to cut costs….whatever they have done since last time we were there…..it is not for the better. Previously, we had recommended this restaurant to many people. We would no longer do so.

Strictly OK

By mandy6059 |

The sausage at this place was undoubtedly the worst I’ve ever had - dry and mealy. Other offerings like the brisket queso and fried okra were surprisingly good. My 1/4lb of thick cut brisket was delish. I am not a connoisseur of BBQ sauce, but this one was pretty decent. It did not overwhelm the flavor of the meat. We went of a Friday night and the atmosphere was rowdy. The acoustics inside amplify table conversation and make for a loud restaurant. It suited our purposes since we had some hyper kids at our table. If you’re looking for a quiet, romantic/intimate dinner, this is not the place. Also, the waitstaff was friendly and patient. Overall, decent restaurant but man, that mealy sausage. Yuck!

BBQ Orgasm - still memorable the next day

By Sally M |

I see the recent reviews to the side of my page as I'm writing this. I haven't read them as I try not to let other's experiences influence my assessment of a place.....especially when they appear to be so vastly different than my take on the restaurant. Again, I'm no foodie. Just a girl new to town with an empty nest and empty stomach so we frequent a variety of mid-range restaurants on a regular basis. A neighbor recommended this place so we made a reservation on Open Table for a weekend night and ventured over. So glad we did! Greeted and seated immediately. Server drove us around the menu, made his recommendations and we jumped right in. Husband had the Burnt Ends and the Pit Beans. He enjoyed both and offered me a nibble which was good. I'm not a good judge of either however as they are typically not my go-to BBQ dishes. Instead I went for the Two Que Plate, with brisket and ribs, and a side of apple cole slaw. If I could have licked my plate without embarrassing my husband any more than I normally do, I would have. The brisket rivaled that that I rave about at Stampede. The ribs were very tender and meaty, easy to gnaw on without making too big of a mess. It was a lot of food for me so I shared with my husband -- something I don't normally do but since he gave me a bite of his, I returned the favor. The only things missing were a piece of bread and some pickles. I really really like pickles with my BBQ and if the meats had not been so good, I would have only given the place three stars for what I consider to be a major BBQ faux pas. Even just a couple of them marinating on the side of my plate would have been fine.....but alas, no pickles. After a leisurely meal with appropriately attentive waitstaff, we ventured upstairs to have dessert, some drinks and hear their live music. Eventually a man with some Cigar Box guitars showed up and began gracing us with some wonderful jazz tunes and some side stories along the way. The downside to this is the same as elsewhere in Dallas when restaurants place large dining parties close to the performer's space. For those of us that actually go to hear the music, it's annoying as their conversations tend to compete for limited sound space. Smaller tables of 2 or maybe even 4 would have been more suitable, but instead there were two parties of 6 and 8. Very distracting to me and I can only imagine also for the musician. One of the few places in town that I've found so far that warrant a repeat visit within a short timeframe. In fact, you may see me there tonight....

Fantastic BBQ Restaurant

For an upscale Barbecue experience, you will want to take your palate to the restaurant that brings Kansas City to Dallas!

Seen many good reviews...

By CMYKirk |

But this isn't one. It won't be bad either, it was just ok for me. Allow me to state that I love BBQ, no... I really love BBQ. I seek it out and when I hear of a new one in town, especially one getting good reviews... I'm going to go try it myself. On first visit, I went with a co-worker at lunch, and was a little surprised that it wasn't very busy. The parking situation looks like it could be a problem, but thankfully, it wasn't that day. Once they open the other couple of businesses in the vicinity under construction, it could make it almost impossible. 18th and Vine literally has approximately 8 spaces of their own and maybe 2 are handicap only parking. On to the food, I had the 2 meat plate, sliced beef and a couple of small pork ribs. One thing you'll always find with BBQ restaurants is some days are better than others. The meat the day we went wasn't very tender and was actually a bit cold, like it had been sitting out for a while. I found this disappointing. The plates were large, but portion sizes were disappointing as well, including the sides. I left still hungry... probably should have had an appetizer! One thing I did like, was the BBQ sauce they provided... a bit spicier than most, and with enough thickness to stick to the meat. In my book, BBQ sauce has to not run off the meat in a vinegary, watery sense. The service wasn't bad, although I believe it should have been better for no busier than they were. It is slightly on the pricey side, but this is BBQ, so not unexpected. There are lots of really good BBQ joints in the DFW area and I doubt any will be beating Pecan Lodge for a long time, but I do appreciate others trying with a different take on BBQ and that's what 18th and Vine provides. It deserves another shot from me... I will eventually try it again. I understand there's a jazz band that plays some evenings, that may add a bit of fun to the experience... may be the next time I visit is at night, with my wife for a date night.

Great BBQ and Happy Hour

By MandaPanda4444 |

18th & Vine serves up Kansas City BBQ with a refined twist. I love the happy hour menu with $5 grilled cheese (don't worry meat lovers you can add brisket or pulled pork). The cocktails are great too. My husband loved the burnt ends appetizer and the cauliflower steak was delicious!!! This is a great option for meat lovers and vegetarians are welcome too :)

Dropped in and it was goooooood!

By Brad M |

A little bit off the beaten path but a nice venue. It's a BBQ joint but higher class. Nice decor, good decor, great drinks list. The menu was great - unexpectedly good since you go to so many BBQ places all through Texas, but I thought the food here was a cut above the typical. We took our kids along (2 and 8) and it was fine, but it is a better place for couples or groups I'd say. The pulled pork was excellent and the in-house mustard/vinegar condiement sauce they have on the table paired with the pork in phenoomenal... If you're hungry and out that way, do yourself a favor!

Great BBQ

By Nancy K |

As a Memphis native, I give this BBQ place a thumbs up. Based on Kansas City style, bbq it’s a sweeter taste which we all enjoyed. We went early on a Sunday morning at 11:15 and walked right in with no wait. We tried the burnt ends and enjoyed them. We all had pork sandwiches with slaw on top. Loved the flavor, size and sauce. I will certainly be back here. Cool building too!

Over priced, small portions.

By Jerry B |

BBQ sauce is a bit bolder than other Kansas City BBQ I've had and tasted good. But honestly at the price of $19 for two baby back ribs, two slices and brisket and an mid size order of fries it's too expensive. The meat was soft and had a very strong smoke flavor to it (not my favorite) but was tasty. Fries were very good. The waitress must have been having an off day, she missed my drink, was kind of short when taking the order and rushing to get the table clear. I've had many KC style BBQ in KC and Los Angeles but this one in Dallas I would not go back to.

Great BBQ, Great service, great atmosphere

By chfd1dj |

Probably the best brisket I ever had anywhere. Really cool restaurant in what looks like an old house not far from downtown. Perfect brisket, collard greens were excellent, their BBQ mashed potatoes were yummy and great apple cider slaw. Highly recommended for BBQ officinadoes. Service was very good as well. Well stocked bar and many craft beers available.

Big disappointment

By Bigalgriffin |

Ok so this place has Brisket for $24 per pound. Gotta be good right? Wrong. This place was a huge disappointment. Brisket was like bad Pot Roast. My. Wife’s Pannini was like a dry hoagie. Beers were served almost warm. The Ribs tasted like they were cooked first then burnt before serving. DO NOT GO HERE! You have been advised.

Excellent Upscale BBQ

By ddmullis |

From the moment you enter the building you realize you have found something special The down home atmosphere and charm are abundant. I enjoyed a cup of the Texas Chili for a starter. I enjoyed an entree of pulled pork and pit beans. The pork had a nice smoke flavor yet very moist and tender The pit beans were true BBQ beans and not sweet The service was excellent for my entire meal.

Food was good, but the restaurant was way too loud.

By Thomas |

I went here on a Sunday for lunch and they have a live band that plays for brunch. It was SO LOUD, it was like being at a rave. The space is far too small for live music, it honestly felt a bit silly. We had to move to the bar, or there was no way to have a conversation. The food however, was very good. The service was quite slow and our waiter disappeared for large chunks of time. The quality of service was mediocre though and it felt like the hostess wasn't sure what she was doing when finding us a table. I think this restaurant has some good potential, but scrap the live music. Its great if you have the space, but this restaurant is in an old remodeled home with tight rooms and it reverberates around the whole home.

Absolutely great new Kansas City BBQ offering

By lplsally |

Matt Dallman's 18th & Vine has it all. Great food, stylish inviting ambiance, attentive knowledgeable servers and two great bars, including The Roost upstairs. The official opening is Oct. 6th but I got a chance for a preview a few days early during their very busy pre-opening. Cannot wait to go back when it is official. Easy to find, central location on Maple. The exterior looks to me like a lovely Kansas City mansion. It has a wide porch on the front with the interior on the first floor divided into rooms. We were on the right side room as you walk in, near the bar. The interior has a warm, clubby feel. Upstairs is The Roost, a bar with musical greats on the walls and plans to have live music. It is not a huge space so it makes you feel like you are hanging out with friends. We had the chance to try pulled pork, brisket, chicken, pulled rib gnocchi, salmon with carrot pesto, Texas fried okra and fried apple pie along with a few other sides. Although I am a beef BBQ fan I really liked the pork and chicken. Both had a good smokey taste and excellent tender texture. The brisket was my favorite - it had the crust I expect from standout BBQ and well as that smokey taste and smell and fall apart tenderness. I was surprised at how well they did salmon. That was unexpected from a BBQ restaurant and is an outstanding option for someone wanting a fish. Pulled rib gnoochi was so inventive - I cannot imagine coming and not ordered it. Gnocchi was tender and light as all good gnoochi is, with the rib meat bringing some real heft to the dish. Yum! All the sides I had were good but the fried okra was maybe the best I have ever had. They were cut length wise and then fried until nice and crispy. Great seasoning - I would love to know what they put on it. The fried apple pie was also terrific - a crust like your grandma made it. Some flavorful craft cocktail options to round out your meal. I really liked the House Old Fashioned. All in all, I thought the interior was welcoming as was the staff. Food was excellent and offers a unique and deliciously different BBQ for the BBQ lovers in Texas. I am definitely going back.

Solid restaurant

Tad on the expensive side for a bbq place but it was nice selection for our pre- father's day meal. Enjoyed the drinks and dessert as well.

I say ++++

By Thom S |

Had lunch at this new barbecue restaurant on Maple Ave. this week and actually.....was impressed! Especially enjoyed my barbecue chicken sandwich & delicious "cowboy-style" beans. The "marinated?"onions (sort of an onion salad?) were great. I was really glad the chicken sandwich was real pieces of chicken not some carved up, pre-formed chicken breast. I did think the sandwich was a little small and a little pricey, but very happy that Oaklawn finally has a really good barbecue place. The interior is also very tasty- cream walls & dark wood. The service was very efficient. I could tell our server was not very experienced, but she did a very good job! We will be back !!!!

KC Style BBQ

By Glenn Almack |

Having spent time in KC, and experienced some of the best BBQ, I have wanted to try 18th & Vine. I was very pleased, as the building has a charm, and the jazz theme from Kansas City only adds to the ambiance. I chose the "Dizzy", a slaw topped Pulled Pork BBQ Sandwich, and a side of Smoked Beans. Food was excellent, and the sauce took me back to Kansas City! Definitely worth the trip, when cravings for BBQ strike! Glenn Almack

The BBQ was excellent!!! Burnt ends, ribs and chicken were amazing! I haven't had BBQ like this in a long time! Highly recommend!

Good Texas BBQ

By Jack B |

New restaurant located in a new house on Maple Ave., 18th and Vine serves six types of BBQ meats. We loved the brisket and pulled pork and the salmon was very good. Order the burnt ends and fried okra for an appetizer. Good, fast service and appealing interior make this a go to place for Texas BBQ.

Fantastic, responsive manager can't save a bad meal

By PartridgeSheri |

The hostess didn't know if the restaurant was part of a chain and the waiter didn't know the wifi passcode. The waiter was generally missing in action. He also didn't notice that the brisket on our salad was stone cold and that it was missing the key ingredients of bacon and avocado. The fried spears of okra are all the rage and highly recommended on various sites so of course we ordered them. Big problem - for some reason some of the spears were so stringy they were inedible. Manager brought a second order and remedied the salad. She also graciously offered us a drink. But the salad, even when prepared correctly was just "meh." The "new" macaroni and cheese with bacon was good, but not distinguishable from any other restaurant's elbow macaroni with cheese sauce.

Great Texas BBQ

Tucked in a quiet corner of Dallas, this is a nice BBQ restaurant with a nice selection of wine and beer. Good place to go for a business lunch or dinner.

Delicious !!!!! 5 Stars *****

1st time as a tourist Food was delicious - we both ordered Two "Que Plates - brisket - ribs was my choice and it was delicious - and more than fairly priced Mac and Cheese was ok and the Seasonal Cobbler (Peach) was outstanding - share it

EXCELLENT

By JimboDallas |

Went there last weekend, GREAT service. Had the pulled pork sandwich which was awesome. The cheese grits were greasy - why is it that no one in Texas can make grits? The slaw however was superb and the sandwich- did I saw awesome. This was out second visit here and it's getting better with age :)

Underwhelming

By wirepaladin08 |

If you have spent much time in Kansas City and it's top BBQ restaurants, you're going to be disappointed with 18th & Vine. The building is new, the ceilings are high and it has a nice bar area. But the food -- not so great. The burnt ends don't resemble any burnt ends I'd ever seen before; they were cubed, soggy and not burnt. The grilled oysters arrived half-cooked. The okra appetizer was really pretty good. The sausage was very spicy jalapeño sausage, so much so that we left half of it. Pulled pork and brisket were nothing more than passable -- you would never mistake them for Arthur Bryant's or Gage. The tables are too small. The plates you are given are the size of salad plates -- not near big enough. They were really kind of a joke, but given the table size maybe they felt that they were as big as they could go. Service was a bit scattered. We waited at least five minutes for water and had to ask for it twice. The waiter talked up the food as fabulous, but it was far from it. When the waiter would show up at the table, he was obviously in a hurry. All things considered, 18th & Vine disappointed. There are at least a half dozen places in Dallas where I would go for BBQ before I even thought about returning to 18th & Vine.
