Good restaurant with nice harbor view on Hayden Island Portland

By John V |

Comfortable interior, friendly service and good food. The view of the harbor is nice and the exterior has outdoor seating

Great Brunch, Great View

By Nick N |

There are probably a lot of people in Portland who have never heard of this place, and it's understandable in so far as Tomahawk Island Drive is a dead end so there isn't any through traffic. Also, even if you drive down Tomahawk Island Drive it isn't easy to spot 3 Sheets at the Harbor, as it is on the lowest floor and the side facing away from the road of a new apartment building. In any case, it is well worth it to make your way here, as the food is excellent, the view is great, and the service is top quality. I went here for Saturday brunch and had the French toast, which was great. It was immediately apparent in the taste of the food that they source good quality ingredients for their cooking.

Arrived by boat

We have eaten here twice, with groups. Food and service was excellent. Last visit we were on the deck and really appreciated the view of the marina and river. However, sitting outside, you are under the PDX flight path and conversation is paused as the planes fly over. Try the brussel sprouts. Even brussel sprouts haters were converted.

Beautiful view and decor; some food needs more work

By JazzGal88 |

I visited 3 Sheets yesterday for the first time. It's a welcome addition to the neighborhood with upscale décor, beautiful views of the marina, and attentive service. I was there during happy hour and ordered a Wedge Salad with prawns added. The salad part was good, but not the prawns. They needed to be shelled (waitress let me know this before placing the order). Part of the prawns were inedible and very yucky; the appearance didn't enhance the salad. The edible portions after shelling were mushy and not particularly flavorful. To her credit, the waitress did deduct the salad from my bill. I also had fondue fries, which were excellent; they were served with gruyere and rosemary.

Fresh Seafood

We loved this place so much we ate there twice on our vacation. The halibut is fresh and perfectly cooked. The crab cakes and chowder are some of the best we've had. Nice view of the marina. Patio dining is a nice option on warm days.

Good Food. Nice Surroundings

By Kerry C |

Tried this out for the first time here recently. Wednesday night. Not crowded at all. Started with a happy hour drink (Negroni), nicely done. For mains we had the scallops, lamb ragu, and fish and chips. All decent fare. The scallops, while tasty, were very expensive for the volume (3 scallops on a large bed of rice). Ragu noodles were a little tough but everything tasted good. Only negative, which this reviewer has pointed out elsewhere, is the poor treatment of red wine. Our bottle came to the table CHILLED and, when poured, frosted the glasses a little. Ugh. Bad wine cooler or storage? Who knows? Anyway, we'll be back. Bar looks like it could be a nice crib/hangout bar. Recommended.

NOT FOR A LARGE PARTY -- ESPECIALLY IF YOU'RE TRYING TO PLAN A SURPRISE PARTY!!

By Lori W |

I was super stoked when I first heard about this new place and walked in! I was planning a surprise birthday party and thought it'd be the perfect venue for 35 people. I was very happy to meet Cora (GM) upon my first visit and thrilled that she was excited that I wanted to host a surprise party there. She gave me her card and told me to email her (7/26/17). I loved knowing email would work best with planning a surprise party. I told her I needed to finalize the venue no later than 8/13/17 because we would be in Costa Rica for 15 days (returning 5 days before the party). She said that it would not be a problem. I emailed her the very same day (7/26/17, Wednesday). She replied to my email on 7/31/17 (Monday) saying she would talk to the chef on Wednesday and put something together for me by Thursday (8/3/17). I NEVER heard back from her and had many failed attempts at reaching her by phone! The last time I called 3Sheets was on 8/10/17. Still Cora was not around. I asked to confirm the date, headcount, menu, and time. After being put on hold multiple times, I was told they were overbooked for that evening. I asked to have Cora (the GM!) return my call/respond to my email. Finally, I received a call on 8/13/17 NOT from Cora and not about my menu or other questions ... it was to confirm the time ... no other reason or information was available. I had only 4 days left to plan/finalize/communicate the venue to our guests -- which really meant I had to find another venue because Cora gave 3Shitz about her customer! If you are planning a large party -- especially a surprise or memorable event -- think twice about 3Sheets if you have to deal with Cora who gives 3Shitz about you!

Birthdays

Really nice atmosphere. Had a party of 7 for my son's birthdays. Every thing we had was delicious. The waiter was great! Would definitely go back!

Need to step up for fine dining.

By twintp |

This is a nice spot for a casual meal but wouldn’t consider it fine dining. Nice location on the water but you are overlooking people sitting in a hot tub right outside the door. Staff was very friendly and place was clean. We were there during Portland dining but all of us chose to eat off the regular menu. Wedge salad came with a balsamic drizzle which was unexpected but tasty. Chowder was only warm and bland. Duck entree was very good as was the carbonara but the crab cakes were only so-so. They need to find a bit of consistency with their foods as well as their delivery- courses didn’t all come out together.

Terrific food, drinks and venue

By Michelle B |

The menu isn't large which is a good sign. They change it to incorporate local seasons and do a great job with their preparations. The drinks are also outstanding and custom. The view is wonderful and the staff well trained.

Portland Dining Month

By Shrinkme |

We went there on a Sunday eve for Pdx dining month 2018. First the good - beautiful view, modern decor, small intimate space, attentive staff and the food was good BUT we expected the specials to be available and they ran out and they did not offer something else off the regular menu - so we did not get any seafood which is why we picked this place out - so, out of all the choices in Pdx, not sure I would go back.

Great atmosphere.

Great atmosphere. Beautiful view. Wonderful cocktails. Good wine list. Food that's just off the beaten path enough to keep you guessing.

Nice addtion to the neighborhood

By Jon S |

Tomahawk Island and the Janzen Beach area needed a place like this. Nice atmosphere and staff. I've tried the Wild Boar Sloppy Joe and Fish & Chips so far ... both excellent. The bar also has some nice top-shelf scotch/bourbon. If you have a business lunch in the area or are just looking for an out-of-the-way escape for lunch and dinner, I would give it a thumbs up so far. Price are on the topside of average ... high for the immediate area, but for good reason in my opinion. Be prepared for lunch items in the $15 range.

view and ambiance wonderful - food tasty but VERY EXPENSIVE. $15 for a toasted cheese sandwich with some round potatoes. wait staff very friendly and nice. I will go back but will eat first down the street.

nice view and location good but not great

By Kevin-Pam S |

my wife and I and another couple went last night. we had a reservation but it still took them about 10 minutes to seat us and they were not busy. everything was slow but it was ok because we were not in a hurry but if time was an issue it would have been annoying. the drinks were good. my scallops were good, my wife said her meat was mediocre parking is a little confusing, the signs say residents only but I think that is just the perimeter of the lot it is not right on the river but you have a pretty good view of the river the waiter was very good and helpful

Great place all around, food, staff and view!

By shewholovestoeat |

What a wonderful discovery! Great happy hour, super view, really good food. We went for dining month, the last one as it turned out. Started with a drink in the bar, before our dinner. Sat by the window, with the killler view. Fun bartender--he was a kick. Served a great drink too. Moved to the restaurant to start our meal, and again, the killer view We started with scallops and crab cake appetizers, a field greens salad, next was a tenderloin steak, and flan. All very well done. We also did the well matched wine pairings. Service was good, prices are good, well worth eating here. We also did their wine pairings, with very nice choices.

Limited Menu - Great Food, Service and Setting

There are few really good options on Hayden Island - 3 Sheets is the best. Lovely intimate interior - even in the winter. There are fun places on the water, but this place is open year-round and you can go through Open Table for guaranteed seating.

Tropical Island Getaway Experience

By Katie D |

A hidden gem that made us feel like we were on vacation in our hometown! We were looking for a tropical oasis to escape to and the vibe here did not disappoint! From the palm trees to the cocktails combined with a stunning view of the marina at sunset… we have found a little slice of the islands right here on Hayden Island. The staff was friendly and attentive, albeit a little slow to deliver the check, but hey - more time for us to slow down and relax! My chicken Marsala was simple but delicious but my husband was the winner with the fish and chips. The batter was crisp and tasty and the fish was cooked to perfection. Tucked away in a resort-style condominium complex, this secret spot was just what we were looking for. Highly recommend!

Small restaurant on the Harbor, under apartment building

By Amers M |

Price is kind of high and it has a small menu. We did appetizers and drinks because the main menu did not have a lot of choices. We had the brussle sprouts and they were really good. We had the meat/cheese/break plate, also very good. Small dessert menu. No chocolate on the dessert menu, which was a bummer and they were out of cheese cake. Only other choice was key lime pie or banana foster. We did not have dessert. Hard to figure out parking.

Walked out

By Mary Jo Hoffman |

I had been to Three Sheets before for both lunch and dinner. My previous experiences had been great which is why I wanted to introduce it to my friends. I went today for a birthday celebration lunch and although the restaurant was practically empty, there was no one to greet us or seat us. Others had been waiting 15 minutes or more. Seems there was only one person working. She said she wasn't expecting so many people for lunch (?????). We ended up walking out and you've probably lost 4 new prospective customers.

Needs to Substantially Up Their Game

By Patricia B |

3 Sheets overlooks the Columbia River on the north side of Hayden Island. I had high hopes for a new place, not a chain restaurant for a good meal close to home. I was very disappointed. Entrees are pushing $30. Add in an appetizer, salad, beverage, and/or dessert and you can quickly find yourself blowing right past $40. That would be okay if the food and service were memorable. The wine list is short, but does cover the basic varietals with reasonable wines. There are also craft beers on tap and a full bar. The staff is inexperienced and not engaging.. there were no smiles, no friendly banter, just quick service. Overall, the meal was disappointing, the food was adequate - nothing to write home about. There was no vibe, nothing to make you want to visit again. I left with the feeling everyone was there because they had to be.

Pleasant evening on the patio with a harbor view

By seizetheday212 |

We were told about this restaurant by friends. As it was a nice warm evening and our adult college age daughter was in town for Mothers Day weekend--we decided this was a good time to try it for dinner on Saturday night. The restaurant is located in a new apartment building. on Hayden Island. With dark wood, wall colors and a substantial bar the interior has a warm feel with an open kitchen. We sat at the bar for a drink while waiting for a patio table. We ordered a few specialty drinks which were good and priced in the $10.00 range. Once seated on the patio we were pleased with the location overlooking the harbor--though far enough away from the outdoor pool (would be nice to have a separation from the two spaces). The apt. buildings do overlook the outside patio dining area--though we were not disturbed. The three of us ordered their Halibut fish and chips and though we all enjoyed our dinner-- at $26.00 ea,we felt it was a bit pricey. They do not list the price on the menu for their fish which includes their fish and chips-- requiring you to check with your server. The happy hour menu has the same offerings with a few dollars of their standard menu--we would consider returning for happy hour as this would be a good option for a casual place on a warm summer evening. The bartender and our server were both pleasant and efficient.

Wonderful way to end a perfect sunny day in Portland and experience spectacular servicei

By Peggy T |

First time and wanted an outside venue for sunset dinner and oysters something. We made reservations and were seated immediately at a two top overlooking the marina. The staff here worked as a seamless team although our primary wait person was Kaitlin. Staff was right on refills and checking in at just the right intervals. Thanks so much!Oyster shooters were the first (and second and third) priority. They came quickly and oysters were pump, flavorful-just perfect, as was the minionette. Next came fish and chips (halibut), also just right. And a unexpected treat was the DJ (this was Friday night) whose choices spanned 60s to 2021 with seamless, sometimes funny transitions. Definitely will return when back in Portland

Pleasant dining outside except for the roar of planes

By trawlerdoxie |

Unfortunately, the restaurant is in a direct flight path to PDX. Aside from that - the Sunday brunch, ordered from the menu, was excellent and plentiful. The service, once we got seated, was better than fine. However, though we had reservations and told the hostess, she took so long on the telephone helping others with making reservations that we got tired of waiting and grabbed the first server we saw and asked what tables were available outside. She needs either to be trained or be better trained.
