Nice breakfast place

By Hans D |

Excellent breakfast with a wide selection of dishes. Nice restaurant with a nice atmosphere, good food and good service.

Great Breakfast, Always

By DanChicago |

I love the entire breakfast menu but the reason I go back regularly is the Eggs Benedict. The hollandaise is traditional and excellent. I substitute American bacon for the Canadian bacon. It's thick cut, meaty and smoked. The hash browns are homemade and shredded and I always ask for extra crispy. Sometimes I get the raspberry scone as a starter. I'be been coming here since 1989 and it never disappoints.

Hidden gem. Great breakfast. Recommended.

By Janice C |

Hidden gem of a breakfast spot! We loved it here. Service is excellent and the food and endless coffee is great! Have the short stack blueberry pancakes, yum. Highly recommended. Their evening food is excellent too.

Pleasant Saturday Morning Breakfast

By Tom B |

Located on a lovely Gold Coast residential street with a quiet attractive neighborhood feel. Had a Saturday morning breakfast while visiting the area. We were seated immediately but noticed as we left that people were waiting to be seated. Tables seemed to turn over quickly. The service was casual, friendly, and was very attentive. Our breakfasts were adequate but a little underwhelming given the price point. For example my eggs Benedict were cooked through rather than the nice warm runny centers of a really good Benedict preparation. Would certainly consider again if in the area.

Great little cafe!

By supapfunk |

Great little café that serves breakfast all day. Everything we ate was very tasty and well made. Breakfast tacos were so good. For the area, good prices as well. Safe neighborhood.

Good and comfortable dinner in an old established setting

By Eiichi F |

Good experience at a well-established cafe. My wife had a Coronation chicken sandwich and mushroom barley soup while I had the lemon dill salmon with the same soup. Shall definitely go back if we are in the area again.

Absolutely delicious!!!!

By Geralyn B |

What a find! I searched restaurants for breakfast near my hotel and 3rd Coast popped up. The reviews were great and I like helping local restaurant owners. I was not disappointed! I had the Veggie Hash and thick sourdough taost - I'm happily full and very content. The wait staff is super nice and attentive - plus, they do a great job spacing their patrons out and sanitizing between visits. I highly recommnet 3rd Coast if you are in the area. I wish I lived closer.

Excellent option on the Gold Coast

By PaulaPaula |

I arrived on the recommendation of a tour guide who lives in the area. Traditional, quiet place, a little lower than the sidewalk/path. I had a latte and a blueberry latte that was huge and freshly made. You can tell that people from the area are going. Very good option for a rest stop in the beautiful Gold Coast neighborhood.

Great brunch!

By Janet N |

Large portions, very flavorful food. Service was excellent. Toast came with margarine and not butter, we needed to request butter instead.

A pleasant and appetising local restaurant

By Doug W |

3rd Coast Club, located in the Gold Coast district of Chicago just a couple of blocks north of the shopping area on Michigan Avenue. It is on the ground floor of a building on North Dearbourn Street and we found the atmosphere in this restaurant and wine bar very pleasant, We were also surprised and pleased by its policy of serving locally produced produce which was both very tasty and put the establishment above the standards of the chains of food joints that are so prevalent in American cities. A very good lunch.

Lovely staff

By janetG2239JY |

The food was good, a reasonable price, and freshly cooked. It also came fairly quickly. However, what made this place memorable for me was the staff. They were friendly and bubbly, nothing was to much trouble, and I was even given a hug on the way out. We also had a nice chat with the lady on the next table. To report these things sounds silly, but it is this sort of thing I will remember.

Great Breakfast!

By LizBethob |

The 3D Coast Cafe is open 7 days a week from 7:00 am to midnight and serves breakfast any time. My husband and I stopped for lunch, but after looking at the menu decided to opt for breakfast. We both ordered the grilled Polish Sausage with eggs (any style), hash browns or fruit and your choice of toast. We ordered the multigrain. The sausage was grilled to perfection and it was really good, especially with the very freshly scrambled eggs. The hash browns were crispy and good and the multigrain was tasty. Service was good and the servers were friendly. Parking is difficult on Dearborn, but we found a spot on Clark Street, one street over.

Perfect way to start the day

By Travelingman074 |

Have eaten here twice in two days. Excellent coffee, whether simple black java, expresso or one of various specialty drinks. Fresh juice, limited by very good scones and pastries. Nice selection of courses for breakfast. Haven't tried this place later in the day as a wine bar but suspect it would be good as the ambiance is perfect for a glass or two after work.

Super all day breakfast

By Kathy T |

We had a chopped salad that was divine, club sandwich prepared perfectly and a regular bunless burger topped with avocado that was nice too. They had some home made carrot soup with sausage that hit the spot on this cold day. All accompanied with a mimosa nd riesling. There was a slight waiting line for a table, so if you can call ahead you might like that. This is where we went when RH had a 90 minute wait.

Amazing food

By AllistonSheri |

We enjoyed breakfast here both mornings of our mini trip. Service was awesome and it was close to our hotel, Ambassador Hotel. Lots of selection, servings are a good size and prices are reasonable. I would highly recommend this restaurant.!!

It’s not Chicago without a stop at 3rd Coast Cafe

By L L T |

When in Chicago, I’m within walking distance of this iconic Gold Coast establishment. Breakfast, lunch, or dinner, you can’t go wrong. Great food, creat staff, and great ‘cafe’ atmosphere. What’s not to like?

Little gem

By Marion P |

Looking for a pancake breakfast for my twelve year old grandson we decided on the the 3rd Coast, must have gotten out of bed on the good side. It was barely 5 minutes walk from our hotel and was worth every step. The juices were fresh not concentrate, the coffee was fresh and HOT. My grandson and I had a half stack of buttermilk pancakes each, which were light and hot. My husband had the eggs and hash browns and he was very pleased. We have one more night here so no guessing where breakfast will be in the morning. The staff were friendly and helpful and I have no hesitation in recommending this establishment. Happy eating.

Cold toast on the gold coast

By Stephen O |

Service was friendly but everything else was very disappointing. No excuses for a cold breakfast. No butter either when we ordered toast.

Great food!

By Phillip W |

Arrived late night on a Sunday, this place was right next to the hotel. Went in and had the Cajun Chicken Penne and it was great. Service was good this night and food was still fresh even though they were closing in approximately 1 hr. Food was so good, I went back the next morning to have breakfast. For breakfast I had the breakfast taco's and they were amazing. The spicy avocado salsa that was served with it was great. Good way to start off your morning.

Very good breakfast

By Judi S |

The breakfast is very good, we came to days in a row. Exceptional were the raspberry scones and the bacon. The service was attentive.

What a great neighborhood feel

By Sunny58900 |

Enjoyed a very wide menu selection. Some are unique but some are classic recipies, which I prefer. Prices good. Cute decor. Right down from Claridge House hotel, another great hidden gem. Walked to the new restoration hardware too.

Popular Neighborhood Cafe

By TravelingSoccerLoon |

Popular neighborhood cafe in the fashionable Gold Coast District. We stopped in on a busy Sunday morning and it was full with many others waiting for a table so we ended up getting our coffee and pastries from the bakery counter to go. I enjoyed my blueberry muffin and my latte was excellent.

One of Chicago's Best

By wyeast32 |

Although my wife and I don't get to Chicago as much as we would like, every time we do, we don't miss a chance to hit 3rd Coast. The quintessential neighborhood breakfast spot...awesome food, outstanding service, memorable atmosphere...truly perfect.

Terrible place

By Doessound |

Don’t go there I arrived was seated and then the girl who seated me was told I should have gone on a waiting list. Girl was embarrassed and didn’t get an apology from the guy at all. Terrible place. I was asked to be put on a list and then told I had to wait 10 mins or longer. I voted with my feet and left.

Hidden Cafe

By ScottEP |

Definitely qualifies for "hidden gem" status, this great Gold Coast neighborhood cafe has excellent food, casual vibe and friendly service (even for non-regulars). Don't miss the carrot cake!

Quick Lunch

By Texaskc1 |

We went here for a quick lunch and split the Italian beef sandwich which was very good. Service was prompt but food scattered on the carpet under the tables from previous guests. Overall a nice place for a light meal or cup of coffee..

The Gold Coast's oldest cafe

By Taylor B |

The 3rd Coast Cafe is nestled in the heart of the Gold Coast at the corner of North Dearborn and Goethe. Located at 1260 North Dearborn, it is the oldest cafe in the Gold Coast neighborhood and offers breakfast all day and a nightly changing dinner menu including fresh seafood, steaks and vegan items. In addition, there is a selection of boutique wines and hand-crafted beers and a full bar. "The 3rd Coast is as Chicago as Wrigley Field," the New York Post reported. It's a popular gathering place for people to enjoy breakfast before going off to work. Try a 3rd Coast scone, raspberry or blueberry or chocolate chip with whipped cream and butter. Or Maxwell Street smoked sausage with two eggs, hash browns or fruit. Or a house omelet with cheddar, ham, onions and bell peppers with fruit or hash browns. Or Texas cut French toast, fresh farm eggs, buttermilk pancakes, coconut oatmeal or just a breakfast sandwich with a grilled egg and cheddar on thick-cut sourdough bread. It's a great way to start the day. And when you come home from work, stop for dinner. Like soup, salad and an Atlantic salmon filet or lemon chicken or skirt steak with key lime pie for dessert. The 3rd Coast is friendly, comfortable and affordable. And the food will put a smile on your face.

Great coffee, Great service!

By Dee T |

This cafe was our go-to for breakfast and it was located very close to our hotel. We had a great experience each morning as we were greeted by a sweet waitress named Marlene. The coffee was rich yet smooth and their homemade scones were absolutely delicious! My friends and I actually remember visiting this cafe several years ago and we were delighted to know it was still open for business.

Cozy and Comfortable

By lacoe |

3rd Coast has EXCELLENT scones...blueberry, raspberry and chocolate chip. Eggs were good and the breakfast sandwich my husband had looked amazing!

Cozy and good

By RGerman |

Like to enjoy Old World coziness and a good breakfast, than 3rd Coast is a great option. In a pleasant atmosphere, friendly staff serves you, what your heart desires, good tasting coffee, perfect prepared eggs, delicious fruit, tasty polish sausage... Nice way to start in the day!

Cozy Neighborhood Restaurant

By AnchieBebe |

This is a great neighborhood spot. It's filled with locals (we see many of the same folks every time we eat there). There are great nightly specials (served after 5 pm). We particularly like their pork dishes all made with great creamy sauces. But the big draw here is their 3rd Coast Pizza. We have lived in Chicago for 30 years and these medium size pizzas (enough for two hungry people) are divine. Even though Chicago is a pizza town, we have yet to find any other pizza that compares to the 3rd Coast. Plus, it's a great place to go with friends since it is quiet so you can really converse (rare in Chicago restaurants these days).

This restaurant is the best!

By CarolNevada |

While in Chicago for a wedding, I needed a place to host 25 people for lunch, on a Friday. I contacted Janet the owner, and with only 4 days notice, she put together a perfectly curated lunch menu, nicely printed when we arrived, set up a great area for our group and provided a wonderful lunch with perfect service. I can't say enough good things about the experience. Everyone at the restaurant from Janet to the manager to the servers and staff were gracious and attentive. And the food was excellent - the salads were inventive and fresh and the sandwiches were great. One guest said it was the best burger he'd ever had! Half the guests from lunch went back the next day for brunch! I highly recommend this charming, comfortable and delicious place.

Finest Cup of Joe! Coffee+scone=perfection!

By Cristina D |

3rd Coast is a Chicago treasure. Stop in for either a hearty brunch or a light start to your morning....you will leave with a happy tummy and a huge smile on your face!

As Chicago as Wrigley Field

By Taylor B |

Yes, you can order dinner at 3rd Coast Cafe. It's open daily from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. But this bright and bustling venue made its bones on its can't-be-beat all-day breakfast and one of the best Eggs Benedict in town. Located at 1260 North Dearborn Street, at West Goethe Street, next to the Claridge House Hotel, in the heart of the Gold Coast neighborhood, 3d Coast Cafe has been satisfying its early-morning crowd since 1985. Start with a raspberry scone and a bowl of oatmeal steamed in milk with brown sugar, banana and raisins. Then the choice gets tough. What'll you have? My favorite is Classic Eggs Benedict with two poached eggs and Canadian bacon on an English muffin and soaked in hollandaise sauce. Other delicious options are steak and eggs with an Angus prime skirt steak, two scrambled eggs, hash browns and sourdough, pulled pork hash with slow roasted pork shoulder, dry rub seasonings, shredded potato, onion, two scrambled eggs and toast and Texas cut French toast with thick cut sourdough sprinkled with powdered sugar with sausage links and hash browns. Breakfast doesn't get any better than that.

A special and cozy place for great atmosphere and excellent food

By sicuani |

I have stayed at the Indigo Hotel which is right next store to the 3rd Coast Café twice in the past two years and returned to Chicago in early April for another stay. Each time I have gone to the 3rd Coast Café for a meal, usually breakfast which is always excellent. Today was no exception and a friend from work and I each had a different breakfast which was perfect. The service is excellent and the owner makes you feel as if you are her guest. On the day my friend on and were there, the Café was celebrating its birthday, and as a treat each guest was offered one of their outstanding baked goods, cupcakes, cookies, and some other treats. All were delicious. One gets the sense that many of the people there are regulars who value the attention and good food that is available. I would definitely return and highly recommend the 3rd Coast Café for its excellent food and warm welcome

Great Food and Service

By Debbie L |

We ate breakfast here almost every day when we stayed at a nearby hotel. Food was fresh and tasty and the staff remembers you and what you like - just an overall great place

Wonderful, Wonderful Place...

By JamesUKChelmsford |

We found this gem of a restaurant very near to our hotel on our arrival day in Chicago, and without having had a chance to look around and explore, we decided to give it a try for breakfast... and I'm so glad we did! The seating and decor are perfect, the food is fantastic, pretty much outstanding; fluffy pancakes, excellent French Toast, great coffee and regular refills. It was so good that we ended up going back there every morning for breakfast for the entire time we were there. The staff are amazing; polite, friendly, courteous, and have that ability to predict what you need before you even know you need it. They come over to refill coffee cups, refill / replace drinks without you having to ask. They have toilets / restrooms, and I'd agree they are busy but they always seem to be able to fit you in. Busiest time to visit is undoubtedly Sundays when Brunch is on, but the place gets a lot of patronage from locals, but the number of customers never detracts from the level of service. Again, the staff are what makes this place, and I'd look out for Kaylee in particular; nothing was ever too much trouble for them. In short; not just a good place to eat great American food, but a superb place worth seeking out in it's own right. You will not be disappointed. My own recommendations; don't overlook the Oatmeal; glorious stuff and in particular the Coconut Milk Oatmeal is just so special. Thanks again to Kaylee and the gang... you pretty much made our holiday this year. Regards

Nice space in old building

By Beverly R |

Food is quite good but limited brunch menu for a vegetarian. It is in an old quaint building and that is part of the charm. Prices average

Best breakfast

By Ellen C |

Best breakfast and we prefer breakfast at home! Great variety; friendly and efficient service. We ate there every morning of our 3 day stay.

Wonderful neighborhood restaurant

By TravelWarrior200 |

We were walking back to our hotel downtown and wanted a bite to eat. This place was a total surprise. Lots of local people here at lunch, but they still seated us quickly. The food and service were excellent. Will definitely come back.

Nice, relaxing neighborhood cafe and lounge

By Mike W |

In the upscale neighborhood of the Gold Coast, the 3rd Coast cafe offers a relaxing environment for a good breakfast and a "lighter" meal later in the day.

Best hometown hospitality in Chicago!

By Andy M |

It’s rare to find the level of customer service that Janet and her professional staff provide at 3rd Coast Cafe. Every time we pass through for work, she treats us like family - exactly what you’d expect from a Chicago landmark. Whether you’re passing through or local, you won’t regret stopping in at 3CC. The food, drinks and dessert are all top notch along with the people you’ll find here. Thanks 3rd Coast for taking pride in what you do and always taking such good care of us. You’re 1 in a Million!!!

Local restaurant feel. Non-tourist find.

By Riplip3 |

Wow. We just moved into the area and went on a scouting mission to find a breakfast, local spot that has a neighborhood feel to it. This is the winner. Breakfast was great, had the Mexican omelette, that should be split between two. Most sides are individually priced..$1 for a side of sour cream? $1.5 per slice of bacon? Aside from these minor irritants, worth it and definitely going back. Would like to check out the sandwiches and dinner.

Great Food. Great Service.

By Bonnie T |

This neighborhood cafe is like a European restaurant in a slight walk down in a Gold Coast high rise. The food is great, and the service is excellent. We especially enjoyed being served and having a great conversation with Marlyn, a very positive and articulate server who was eager to give us a great dining experience. We look forward to returning.

Great breakfast to start the day

By Mark R |

I stopped in here one morning and had a great breakfast. The staff was very quick to serve me but did not rush me while eating or to pay the bill. The omelettes were huge and had lots of meat and veggies inside. This is a great breakfast place that is next to where I stayed.

Has it all, any time!

By IntlMysteryMan |

Great coffee, breakfast, other meals, atmosphere, staff, all in a cozy location. Go any time and it will be the same delight!

Nice neighborhood spot

By BarbE54 |

Nice Gold Coast stop for breakfast. Nothing fancy, but quaint , warm atmosphere. The waitress was very helpful and directed us to a few other spots in the neighborhood. Just down the street from the Restoration Hardware.

Great for breakfast

By AL BLAIS |

This is your neighbourhood café serving breakfast all day with brunch options in the weekends. Friendly staff and a warm décor. Very good value for your money.

Snippy service, mundane menu

By charlesthebarles |

If all you want is glorified hamburgers and nothing innovative, come here. A drag for anybody who wants to eat healthy or be challenged by creative food. Male waiter could have been more helpful.

Delicious

By Jeikseg |

Excellent presentation and service. I love how careful they are when it comes to service. Dishes are tasty, material are fresh. Just delicious

Breakfast, yummm!

By Kate P |

This cozy little restaurant has excellent breakfast. We liked it so much we ate there two mornings in a row. Try raspberry scone!

Very enjoyable breakfast

By 44WestSide |

Doubt we would have found this spot if we had not been staying close. We have breakfast and it was quite good. They have a nice menu so want to try for lunch or dinner

Great restaurant!

By Crawford-23 |

Found this gem while on a walk. Great food, friendly service, and the owner even sat down and talked awhile. Do not pass this place up.

Neighborhood Cafe

By Jeff873 |

We were staying at the Ambassador hotel just up the street and was looking for a place for breakfast. This was recommended as a place that locals go for good food and reasonable prices. After going there we concur. We ate there three mornings and while we did not return for dinner my bet is that it would be good. Service was awesome, lots of selection, good size portions and prices were very reasonable.

Consistently excellent

By Allise W |

The food is great, and the service is always wonderful. This place is great for every meal...the prices are reasonable, and the ambience is relaxing and nice.

Excellent coffee & food

By Christine G |

Stopped in with friends for a late lunch. Was excellent. The coffee was among the best I’ve had in a long time. So many restaurants don’t invest in good coffee. The food was very good. Thoughtful, healthy, comforting food. I’ll be back!

Very nice neighborhood cafe.

By Andrea B |

We really enjoyed this neighborhood cafe. We ate there both lunch and breakfast. They food was very good and they have a great menu. Basic food but with their own style and twist.

Excellent quality and service

By Richard P |

The food is high quality and reasonably priced, at least by "big city" standards. We just happened upon the place as it was close to our hotel and the prices were much more reasonable than the 3 Arts Club Cafe located across the street. The menu is also more extensive in terms of choices. Our waitress ("Server #13" on 12.9.18) was very pleasant and helpful. We got the special Asian style soup, which is served in a very large bowl. It is admittedly a little pricey for soup (around $13, I believe) but was a meal in itself and was of very high quality. It did take quite a while to have the meal served (around 15-20 minutes), but the menu does advise that each serving of the soup is made to order so I really cannot complain. Bottom line, I would definitely like to go back (multiple times) to sample the other great looking food we saw served while there.

Worth it for the scones

By David S |

The title says it all. The coffee was quality, and the rest of the food was above average, but the blueberry scone was the clear winner for me.

Yes... great food!

By OneTouringGirl |

This is a nice neighborhood restaurant amongst apartment buildings and actually located on the ground floor of a 1920’s vintage building. Park at the metered spots along Clark Street. On a Wednesday evening we found locals coming and some going with take out, others lingering over card games and cribbage and laughing and enjoying as you might at a coffee house. We had three different sandwiches.. all were homeade, fresh and generous. Sides of hash browns, fried potatoes and brussels sprouts were also excellent. I recommend 3rd Coast!

Dine at 3rd Coast - Again and again

By Patka-DeHart |

Just can't say enough about how much I enjoy dining at 3rd Coast on my not often enough returns to sweet home Chiago. . So taken with their Cobb Salad that it prevents me from venturing any further into the menu. When it comes to a Taste of Chicago, you'll enjoy the taste of 3rd Coast.

Great variety, Good start to the day

By ZJ_London |

Breakfast stop on first day in Chicago.. Had a 3-Filling omelette & a breakfast sandwich. Indulging portions, lots of cheese used in omelette, fried bread in sandwich, half decent coffee (better options elsewhere), hash brown was a real treat, surprised to see it come out like a Rosti and not the usual triangles found in London. Vegetables in the omelette were not of the highest quality, but great taste overall. Casual and relaxing atmosphere, with a lot of regular locals - always a good sign.

Great place to eat

By Maria C |

Super yummy food and not too expensive. We had delicious hamburgs. Also great place to go with kids. Family friendly!!!

FINE CASUAL DINING

By Patka-DeHart |

Love 3rd Coast! Excellent soup du jour. Fantastic salads. Delicious entrees. Perfect portions unlike the frou-frou two-bite meals you may find in other upscale dining establishments. Remarkably reasonably priced, to boot! A real treat to find in fine dining in the Windy City. Can't wait to go back from the middle-of-nowhere OH. Can't say enough about how enjoyable it is to dine at 3rd Coast.

Very nice good

By cheeky34 |

We had lunch here today. There were 7 of us. We enjoyed the food. There was plenty of it. The eggs were cooked just the way I like. The children enjoyed their meatballs and pancakes. Nothing was left on their plates which is always a good sign.

Like Home (without the annoying siblings)..

By ruffhanzNopolish |

Twelve years of Gold Coast/Chicago visits and somehow missed this gem! From the warm "Hello! - You're welcome to sit anywhere" to the "Thank you for coming, we hope to see you again. Have a great day and good success on your endeavors," 3rd Coast Cafe was a delight. Coffee was good and hot (and if your cup absorbed too much heat out of the coffee, a hot refill was at the ready!). There's many good places for breakfast in the Gold Coast; we've tried lots of them, but this cafe has something special going on. The food here had a creative twist, was fresh, and locally sourced. Hashbrowns were crispy, not greasy. Special requests (tweaks) were no problem. The food was delivered by a very happy gentleman. We've gotten so used to our food being simply dropped off, that a genuinely happy delivery with a wish to "enjoy!" just added to the experience. The scones are delish..not too dry as they often can be. YUM. Our first visit we had the Maxwell St polish sausage plate and breakfast burrito. It was so good and the experience so pleasant, we returned the next morning for scones and coffee. Shout out to Jeri and Gabriel - our servers. They engaged in conversation as if we were friends and there to hang out. NOT intrusive...just interested and engaged...again, something we don't experience often. Altho most of the tables were full, our food came very quickly and the coffee even more so. Can't wait to come back again next year. There's a reason 3CC has been here for 35 years...congratulations and job well done!!

Bad night?

By jaz79h |

We've been here before and enjoyed the food. And service was fine, as always. But food just ok. I got an arugula salad that was 95% arugula, maybe 6 grape tomatoes, and perhaps 10 tiny balls of mozzarella (with some basil leaves and dressing)...way way too much of the same thing, and not a good value for $13. My partner got fish tacos that were similarly disappointing. I was surprised...we'd been before and liked it.

Good burgers!

By Mozy |

The atmosphere is really good, nice lighting and music in the background. I had the baja burger with a spinach caesar salad on the side, which were both delicious. Seriously, the pretzel bun made that burger and I loved that they had a spinach salad as an option instead of just the typical iceberg garden salad. I would recommend this place to anyone! Yummy food, good service and reasonable prices. Definite win.

Neighborhood Find

By Sharon D |

We live in neighborhood, but it has taken us awhile to try. We like the clean, friendly surroundings --European-like cafe. We have had dinner and lunch and pleased. The wine was excellent and extensive menu.

Always Great!

By Ding526 |

I have family who live in the area, and 3rd Coast is always on our list of "must go" dining establishments whenever we visit. Last weekend was our most recent trip to the Windy City. Ended up at 3rd Coast Saturday morning. As always, the food, service, and ambience of this place was outstanding. I have only been for breakfast, but highly recommend it!

An extraordinary neighborhood breakfast

By unicent |

My hubby and I had breakfast here yesterday, and enjoyed it so much, we came back again today! It is low key with a coffee shop atmosphere. The staff is extremely smiley, cheerful and competent. I can vouch that the Greek omelet, granola and yogurt and oatmeal are Ll delicious! The portions are quite generous, and the oatmeal definitely enough to share! This is a place that appears to have “regulars”, and not a huge tourist clientele. Prices are extremely reasonable and no lines to get in. Go and try it for yourself, and have a look at the beautiful art for sale as well!

great local place...

By eyeu |

Walking in the Gold Coast stumbled upon this little cafe. Clean friendly, good coffee and a nice lunch besides. Would return..love its atmosphere...location...a great find in this area.

The dishes are flavorful and plentiful!

By LMK101 |

What a great spot this is for Breakfast! It is packed and busy. There a plenty of tables and the staff keeps everything "humming very smoothly". You do not feel rushed. The dishes are flavorful and plentiful. We had the farmers omelet, scones (which are huge), the breakfast bowl and the chilaquiles. All were delish! They keep the coffee coming! Very good vibe. Our server, Silvia, was nice and attentive to us. Definitely go back here again.

Exceptional veggie hash..Great breakfast in the Gold Coast

By bas0921 |

Met a friend here for breakfast before heading to the farmer's market. Was looking for something substantial and filling - the veggie hash was recommended.. It fit the bill and was great! Came with 2 eggs (in my case scrambled) The 3rd Coast has been in this location for 25+ year and is a staple in the neighborhood as the local coffee, and consistently delivers a high quality product at a good value. You can also get handcrafted coffees to go...

Very good discovery

By Pierre Z |

Happy discovery, friendly setting, the staff overall is charming, diverse and varied breakfast, very friendly lunch, go there with your eyes closed

Great Breakfasts, Brunch & Dinner

By D0dge51 |

This was a great find for breakfast, brunch & dinner. It was literally next door to our hotel and the food and service was really good each time we ate here, over 5 days. Even when they were very busy at the weekend, the service was still excellent and the food great, with generous portions. Would definitely return when next in Chicago

Saturday Brunch was excellent!

By lsfunk62 |

The coffee was superb! The food was excellent! The staff was friendly and the service was awesome! A great place for breakfast/lunch!

Nice Cafe

By marin215 |

This is a nice tucked-away spot. We had dinner here after a wedding dress fitting nearby - myself, my daughter, and 3 of her friends. It was perfect for the group as we were not interested in the more touristy or sports bar options nearby, and some of the group was not adventurous enough for other high-end options. At night they serve an "after five" menu that had a few additional options in addition to the regular day menu of salads and sandwiches. Pork, pasta, and burger all good. Service friendly and efficient. If you're looking for big and bustling, or a huge menu, not for you. A nice easy dinner with friends and little fuss...it's a good choice.

Delicious and quick...

By caw954s_10 |

I was hungry after traveling all morning and I was staying at the Hotel Indigo next door. So, I looked over their menu while walking by and took a chance. It was delicious! I wished I would of had time to go back again for breakfast, but I was there on business and I never got the chance. I only had their minestrone soup and a Cesar salad, but it was the best soup and salad I've ever had and I've had a lot! It looked like they could make lattes and espresso, plus they offer breakfast all day which looked great, I just had already had breakfast. Great service too...do not hesitate to eat here.

Great breakfast after a walk

By wwm1006 |

Great breakfast after a walk nearby. We did not have reservations but walked in and the staff could not have been nicer. Wonderful servers, great food, great price and a local gem of a place. Will be back for sure!

Excellent burgers, nice atmosphere for dinner

By Guakatela |

Arrived later in the evening in Chicago and decided to stop in for dinner. Although it restaurant seems more of a breakfast and lunch spot, dinner did not disappoint. The toasted feta appetizer was very good and the ghost burger was phenomenal. It had just the right amount of heat and flavor. We also had the salad which was large and delicious as well. Definitely would come back in the future.

Consistently Excellent

By Allise W |

Every time I visit Chicago (which is often), I go to 3rd Coast. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are all terrific, and the service is always top-notch. My sister lives in the Gold Coast, and she frequents 3rd Coast and also has excellent experiences every time. Sometimes, the owner stops by to see how diners are, and she genuinely cares that her clients enjoy the food and service.

New Menu - Great Experience

By Michele C |

The tacos are very filling and tasty. The shrimp, asparagus, and rice dish along with a caesar salad is outstanding. Margarita Monday is fun because the margaritas are excellent. Every meal I've ordered has been outstanding and very reasonably priced. In addition, the wait staff is accommodating and friendly. This really is a secret, local neighborhood favorite.

Really good breakfast

By armagh222 |

Breakfast was great. Service was warm and the menu was extensive. My breakfast sandwich and my wife's omelette were cooked perfectly. A really great start to our visit to Chicago.

Warm and welcoming

By Likklelorn |

A very friendly and cosy cafe offering well cooked food with a wide choice and delightful accompanying vegetables. I also love that ordering a main meal brings an automatic soup or salad starter (your choice). Their dessert menu was rather tempting too! For me, their gluten free options were a welcome sight. Very lovely staff and good prices make this a great value choice.

My new favorite breakfast spot

By Laura C |

Everything here is delicious. I’m serious. I stayed at the Claridge House hotel that is next door to this absolute GEM of a restaurant. It was super busy but they made quick work of it and we were seated in a very timely manner. The staff were friendly and efficient. Everyone in my group ordered various coffee drinks and different breakfast items and it was all delicious from the coffee drinks, omelettes, eggs benedict, to the avocado toast. DO NOT leave without ordering a scone! Everyone in my group got a scone to-go… they are amazing!

The very Best oatmeal & coffee I have ever tasted.

By zoomzoom45 |

My daughter and her boyfriend took me here for breakfast/lunch it was a wonderful surprise. This little café was great, so I made my daughter take me several times throughout my visit. Because....the food is great tasting and the staff is "NICE" which is uncommon today.

Great food

By Maxwell G |

Food was excellent. My business partner and I had the Kale and avocado sandwich and the thick cut BLT. Food was reasonable priced. Will go there again.

Great place for breakfast and more

By Martin B |

We enjoyed an excellent breakfast here, in relaxing and attractive surroundings. Service is good and unobtrusive, food very good and prices very reasonable. Would certainly recommend.

Excellent

By Laura Hernandez |

Great neighborhood, cozy, relaxing atmosphere. The food is great and the service is terrific. Came back the next day for breakfast, very good!

Excellent value

By edward S |

This is our go to spot for breakfast, but also has excellent lunches. Unpretentious, great service, great hash browns, and quiet atmosphere. Full bar, too. Highly recommended.

Great Breakfast but avoid if short on time

By shawn r |

We were staying a few blocks from here at Public Hotel. One of the valet guys recommended this place. We ate breakfast there almost every morning it was so good. The only complaint was the service was very slow on the Sunday morning we went; however, in their defense the restaurant was quite full. Great Breakfast Stop

Undiscovered treasure

By Beverly V |

Charming vintage restaurant in Chicago's Gold Coast. Four of us ate there last evening and enjoyed a wide variety of food. I love that everything is made from fresh ingredients and tasted so good. Service was wonderful and the Key Lime Pie amazing. We will go back and will tell others. Always fun to find a local treasure!

Great restaurant, fantastic staff!

By Michael G |

Each time we visit Chicago, we make sure to have breakfast here. The food is reasonably priced, creative and always delicious. We love their coffee as well and always bring home some beans. The staff and management are fantastic and really went out of their way to send us coffee beans via mail after we got home! Thank you, Janet!

Breakfast, lunch and dinner at reasonable prices

By Taylor B |

There are several good places to enjoy breakfast in the Gold Coast area and 3rd Coast, located at Dearborn and Goethe, is one of them. In fact, if you're looking for good food and good service for breakfast, lunch or dinner at inexpensive prices, this is as good a place as any. 3rd Coast offers breakfast anytime, beginning at 7 a.m. My wife and I and our friends and neighbors have eaten all three meals and never been disappointed. Breakfast? Eggs Benedict is the topper. Also steak and eggs, oatmeal, French toast, lox and bagel, hash browns, omelets, Polish sausage, granola and freshly baked scones. Lunch? Soup and salad, mini Italian meatballs, smoked turkey and brie sandwich, marinated chicken, white albacore tuna melt, 3rd Coast burger with lettuce, tomato, onions, dill pickles and cheddar. Dinner? Fresh fish, 12-ounce New York steak, ravioli, chicken marsala and pizza made to order. Dessert? Key lime pie, apple pie a la mode, banana split, double fudge chocolate cake. It is a very relaxing atmosphere, like a coffee shop where everybody is sipping coffee and reading the morning newspaper and minding their own business.

Fine little restaurant with excellent food

By 627annemarieq |

Having been a customer of this fine little restaurant for over ten years I can declare that the quality of the food and service is excellent. Three cheers!

They basically poisoned me - server didn't care

By DuncanRipple |

I have a food allergy and I alerted and directly asked our server if their homemade granola had sesame seeds and she quickly and confidently replied that it doesn't. Well, within four bites of my meal, I began to have an allergic reaction. I alerted the server who went to the kitchen to verify and she confirmed that they do contain sesame. I told her I have to leave immediately to treat my systems and she said I don't have to pay. Cold comfort, because she ruined my day. It took over 5 hours to recover from the medicine to combat the systems...hives are no fun. Missed most of the cubs game later that day...and didn't really enjoy it with the after affects of the medicine. Just sucked that she didn't care to check

Close to the Ambassador Hotel

By cranky355 |

The staff at the Ambassador Hotel told us about this cafe three years ago and we go there for breakfast every day. The food is good and the staff is great.

Great restuarant off the beaten track

By paul |

My wife and I were walking to the Chicago history museum and walked a couple of blocks from Clark street to see the 3rd coast café and the 3 arts club café. The 3rd coast café had seats available and the menu had a variety to choose from. So we stayed and had a breakfast style lunch. Food was great, prices were good too, portions were large. We met the first violinist for the Chicago Symphony Orchestra sitting next to us. Very friendly atmosphere too. We liked it so much we went there the next day. Coffee was good too. Very highly recommended instead of the restaurants on Michigan avenue.

Quick lunch

By Joseph S |

Stopped in for a quick lunch. Place was nice and menu was pretty diverse. Had sandwich and would say it was really good. Prices for Chicago are really reasonable. Would recommend this to others. Service was great and wait staff were friendly.

Classy and Tranquil Neighborhood Restaurant

By Mike C |

During our week visiting Chicago around the 4th of July, my wife and I ate brunch and lunch in this Gold Coast restaurant 3 times. Since the hotel we stayed at shut down its restaurant during the pandemic, we were motivated to seek other options within walking distance often. Of the 4 places we tried, 3rd Coast was the best in many ways. Situated just below the street level, the dining area of 3rd Coast had a classy and tranquil setting. The service was friendly and casual. The dishes for brunch or lunch they offered were not extravagant nor eclectic. Yet they made all the standards nicely with fresh and quality ingredients. Very delicious comfort food kind of an approach. The other customers that we came across were a mix of locals and tourists. Perhaps we returned to this place because the price was good also. Wish I have a similar neighborhood restaurant at home.

Fabulous brunch!

By Jennifer P |

Yum! A must-visit brunch spot for great food and drinks in the heart of Chicago’s sweetest neighborhood. Our group loved the omelette, blueberry crepe 😆(looking like a decadent piece of cake). Orange juice or grapefruit mimosas were terrific. The owner checked to see how we were doing — such a personal touch in the heart of the big city!

Really good place

By Grumpyoldman |

We ate dinner here whilst visiting the city on vacation. We liked the relaxed ambience, the friendly and efficient service and - above all - the excellent food. It was also good value for money, especially for its location. We would happily return.

CHICAGO FINE DINING

By Patka-DeHart |

As a former Chicagoan 3rd Coast is a favorite whenever I go home. Burgers with the fixings are huge and so good that with one bite one of our party decided it didn't need any condiments because he didn't want to spoil the taste of the beef. I'm a BIG fan of the Cobb Salad and 3rd Coast does it well. Personal preference:, they ought to add Thousand Island dressing to their options but Italian dressing worked nearly as well and the hard-boiled egg was missing. Still, overall, a really great Cobb Salad. Also has delicious soup du jour.

Cozy atmosphere, great food

By lovetheoutdoors061 |

My husband and I stopped her for lunch. It is a coffee bar but with a nice selection of breakfast and lunch items. The place was quiet enough to enjoy our conversation. Friendly staff. 12.00 fresh sandwiches . A deal in Chicago. Definitely recommend as you walk around that area of Chicago.

Perfect Gold Coast cafe

By Ali |

I was staying in the area for two weeks and visited this place quite a few times for dinner, drinks and breakfast. First thing to note is the staff are so lovely. There are a few regular guys who work there who are so quick and efficient, and they have lovely manners. The music in this place is awesome. It's one thing I really loved. Every song that was playing when I was there I loved. Lots of Dylan, Cohen, Elliot Smith, other singer songwriter classics on repeat. The food I had was delicious, fresh and good value for big portions. The chocolate chip scones are the tastiest scones I've ever eaten. The place is good value, I think, for the quality of produce. I had a glass of sparkling wine there a couple of times, and at $9, you'd be hard pressed to find anywhere else on the Gold Coast doing similar value for such nice wine. The place was always pretty busy and had a lovely relaxed atmosphere. I always felt comfortable here on my own.

Great food and service

By Stacie S |

I go here for breakfast often. When I have family in to visit they always request 3rd Coast. The food is great and the service is amazing as well!!

Breakfast diamond

By Marc R |

Breakfast. Perfect loading breakfast set up for the day lovely staff and just cannot fault it. Such good value the omelettes were massive and so tasty.

Great food, great service. 10/10 would eat here again

By EGHartrum |

Food was great. We went there for breakfast and jt was exactly what we wanted. I got the breakfast burrito and my friend got a lot of food from the ala cart section of the menu. Even though it was busy, our server was very attentive and took great care of us and the best part is that it was within walking distance from our hotel.

Great brunch options, great service

By gottaloveitaly2012 |

Neighborhood restaurant with extensive menu for morning or evening. Went for brunch and enjoyed large portions and great service. Recommend!

Dinner Favorite - Open Late

By JC C |

My wife and I have lived in the neighborhood for over 10 years and love this restaurant for dinner. Of the many reasons we go are, the food is always spot on with a changing menu that includes specials found nowhere else. The other night, I had New Zealand Lamb Chops, which were exceptional --- Perfectly seasoned, perfectly presented and paired with a wonderful wine. Besides the great food, and an excellent wine selection, the atmosphere is relaxed, comfortable and unpretentious - having dinner there is as if you were invited to a friends home. Finally, they are open late which is wonderful when you are trying to find a proper dinner at 10:30pm and every other place is either closed or serving bar food.

Consistently great food at reasonable prices

By Suz2010 |

We’ve been eating at this neighborhood restaurant for 15 years, and it’s still great every time. We moved away from Chicago 6 years ago but we’re back for a week and ate here for breakfast 3 times and for dinner twice! Seriously. Great omelets, pancakes, and the best hash browns you’ve ever had. They even offer them as a side with sandwiches at lunch and dinner. My husband likes the lox and bagels for breakfast. For lunch and dinner, they always have tasty soups, some great salad options, really good burgers. Quesadillas were good, and my husband fell in love with the Cuban bowl. It’s rice, beans, quinoa, optional chicken, and two good salsas, one avocado and one red. $5 well drinks, mimosas and Bloody Marys for brunch. Try this place - you will not be sorry.

Dine like a local

By Eric L |

Third Coast is a neighborhood institution (since 1985!). There are a number of hotels nearby, and if you want to explore Chicago and feel like a local, then stay away from River North where all the big hotel chains are. Stay in the Gold Coast neighborhood. Have brunch at Third Coast. You are Gold Coast. The food is of course excellent -- it is eclectic but not avant-garde. It is just consistently delicious and filling (which you should expect in Chicago). There are actually several menus: weekend brunch, daily, breakfast. None of the menus disappoint. The wine and beer list are good as well -- what a concept: a quiet place serving drinks where you can relax and talk while having a few drinks.

A Diamond of a find

By Sharon P |

Everything about the place was exceptional. Great wine. The menu was wonderful and everything we ordered was delicious. Staff was friendly and helpful.

Love it

By Pamw329 |

Love going to 3rd Coast for breakfast. Breakfast is great. Love the coconut oatmeal. Coffee is great and the place is clean and the servers are nice.

Our Favorite Place to Eat

By Kathleen P |

We love the 3rd Coast for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I enjoy their bagel and lox for breakfast and always order the Kale salad for dinner. So yummy. Great location, plenty of on-street parking (pay meters) and appreciate the full bar and local artist featured on the walls.

Amazing food!

By cowgirlweis |

Went twice in one day with my friends. This cafe had amazing food and excellent service. Highly recommend the Dutch Club sandwich.

Nice place

By Miguelit068 |

Excellent breakfast menu, prompt but not pushy service. Friendly and helpful staff. The food is excellent, tip top American cuisine. We had breakfast consisting of eggs benedict and buttermilk pancakes, both we excellent. A nice spot on the Gold Coast.

A good neighborhood place, only gets better

By Thomas N |

We have been going to the 3rd Coast for years, but lately, something has been going on there that is making a good place -- even better. I guess it's a slightly upgraded menu, more wine, beer, and drink offerings, and well, just a warmer feeling about the place. One thing that has not changed is the price: VERY reasonable. Look for basic diner food, plus some hispanic offerings, and then some fairly unique specials that rotate through. Oh, and we found out they are offering "Happy Hour" dinners from 8-10PM during the week. Think about it!

Great place for breakfast or brunch

By Richard S |

We were staying at a hotel in the Gold Coast neighborhood of this restaurant and we visited every day during our stay for breakfast. A great selection of food - from eggs and pancakes to meats and fruits. I had the Farmer's omelette every morning - changing my selection of cheese and the style of the bread. Great coffee and great service. The prices were better than our hotel's breakfast. Later in the day there are burgers and sandwiches - and a whole long list of great food. This little place is a real gem --- you'll be glad that you found it.

No bull cafe with great food

By Matt S |

If you are looking for fast service, good food, and a short wait then is the perfect cafe. 3rd Coast is for anyone sick of hipster brunch places with hour long wait times and slow service. After a few days in the city it was refreshing to be seated in minutes without a reservation and served real food at a great price. This is place is popular but runs like a well oiled machine. The staff was attentive without being a annoying. The food was amazing and I thought the price was reasonable. I would happily go back anytime I'm in the neighborhood.

Great All Around

By John D |

When visiting family in Chicago, we always stop for brunch at 3rd Coast. The food and service is great, and the prices are very reasonable for Chicago fare. Omelets, soups and salads were delicious. Danny, our server, was very friendly and attentive, even when it became busier. Highly recommended.

Best Cappuccino Ever

By RitaLyC |

We went here to have breakfast for lunch (they serve breakfast all day). The service and the food were excellent and the coffee was delicious. All our food was fresh and made with quality ingredients. Inside was cozy and had character, it was just a nice space to spend an hour enjoying some food and coffee. Looking forward to eating here again.

Great brunch Near North side!

By Susan B |

We visited for brunch after a Chicago architecture tour of Astor Street when weather was rainy/snow the last weekend of April 2019! A tour member recommended 3rd Coast's great food. The place was filled but we got a table for 2 and received water and menus immediately. On waitress' recommendation I ordered Diablo Italian beef with giardiana veggies, caesar salad and my friend ordered Maxwell Street polish sausage with 2 over easy eggs, hash browns and toast. Waitress was friendly and efficient. Everything is cooked to order but it came pretty fast and hit the spot. Will definitely come again when we are in the neighborhood.

Breakfast

By william T |

We stayed at the Publick hotell Chicago, wich is right down the street compered to 3rd Coast! We ate breakfast here 3 days and loved it! Great food and good service! Highly recomended!

Great bar in a lovely area

By john F |

Visited friends in Chicago and called into the 3rd Coast for a drink, the staff were super friendly and the place has a great atmosphere. Well worth a visit.

A gem of a cafe in the Gold Coast

By Howard C |

A gem of a small cafe in the heart of the neighborhood. We went for a late breakfast and it did not disappoint. The blueberry scone was the best I've ever had. Friendly and attentive service and fair prices. Large menu for other meals. Decor was very tasteful and classic. If you're in the area don't miss it.

Lovely food

By Laurina c |

Nice setting, busy restaurant. Delicious food and great service. The tables were spotless Friendly staff who gave us time to peruse the menu and gave advice.

Feels Like a European Cafe

By Bonnie T |

This restaurant- nearly hidden in a high rise in an upscale residential neighborhood- brings an eclectic taste with a European feel. The menu is diverse, and prices are reasonable. Tamp into a latte or cappuccino to hear the whine of the espresso maker that fills the air with an hypnotic coffee aroma. The restaurant is not large, yet there are plenty of tables, and the waitstaff aim to please. Open for all meals and desserts, this restaurant is worth a visit or two.

Nice Atmosphere, Good Service, Mediocre Food

By joszeph_pelikan |

We saw the reviews and went here for breakfast. A lovely setting with very good service. I asked for my eggs "over medium" and they were nearly raw. Hashbrowns were nondescript. Small, thin piece of toast. Wife's omelet was fine, but nothing special. I can get the same or better food in one of 5000 Denny's for 1/2 the price.

Hungry and don't want to wait?

By Giovanni A |

Hungry and don't want to wait? This is the spot. Good service and good food. All you need when you ready to find a place for food.

Good breakfast

By Julie F |

This is a very friendly neighborhood place to have breakfast. Excellent eggs cooked just the way you want them and they make their own pico de gallo.

Super fresh, tasty, and seasoned to perfection!

By Reszo |

I've heard about the oatmeal at 3rd Coast and have talked to the owner about some of the dishes the restaurant makes. It all sounded so amazing, that I ordered take out for myself and my co-workers. Everyone loved how fresh and tasty the food was from the beautiful salads, the hearty soups, and the oatmeal...oh my!....so amazing with bananas, berries, and brown sugar! This is the kind that keeps your tummy warm and full for hours. Fantastic food for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Easy location to walk or drive to in the Gold Coast. This is the place that you want to go to again and again.

Excellent food in an incredible environment.

By Sara h |

The glass-domed garden area is stunning, and the wine cave area is a bit quieter and more intimate. The food was sooo good. I had a lobster roll, and my friend had the Caesar (she raved about the dressing) but the star of the meal was the fried artichokes & potato with rosemary aioli. YUM.

Fabulous Sunday Morning Brunch

By Greg D |

Weekend brunch at 3rd Coast Cafe was such a treat! I enjoyed a wonderful Greek Omelet and a couple grapefruit mimosas. Others in our group raved about the crepes or different omelets they ordered. The quality of the food was superb, as was the attentive, friendly service. The energy and vibe also added some positivity to our Sunday morning. Highly recommended!

Gold Coast diner experience!!!

By CampbellB |

Great dining place in Gold Coast area. Good service, food choices and excellent coffee. Always busy and tables turn quickly. Whole range of customers from families with little ones to couples, to older folks having breakfast or a coffee. Great staff also-attentive and friendly.

Good breakfast and brunch offer

By Sarah M |

Went there on a Saturday morning. It was busy but not too crowded so we didn't have to wait to be seated. Staff is friendly, the place is nice, simple but classy, and they have plenty of options for any kind of meals. I especially liked their pancakes and the freshly squeezed orange juice. Coffee is overpriced though.

Very good brunch

By TripPhotographer52 |

My daughter and son-in-law recommended this place and we loved it. They do not take reservations so we got there about 9:30 am on a Saturday and got seated right away- there was aline when we left. The service was very good. We like to try places we have never been to as well as ones we liked in the past. Two of us got the veggie hash with eggs of your choice and avocado salsa. On person got a Lox Benedict with fruit and loved it. I got a Farmer's omelet- veggies and cheddar cheese with hash browns. Everything was tasty. We will return on future visits.

Great Breakfast Place - and Dinner

By Tom M |

Well, you know me. I love breakfast. Was visiting friends and family in Chicago. Wanted to go our for breakfast. Have to be careful, as no dairy or wheat are allowed for the time being. This place was sort of hidden, as we did not see it until right on top of the place. Went in for breakfast. Seated right away, about 10am. Had a great omelet, super hash browns, sausage and Udi's gluten free bread. Great coffee. French toast looked excellent. These people are very accommodating. Service was great, food was great. I'll be back.

Good breakfast

By MatejZnidaric |

We stayed nearby and this spot saved as from a terrible breakfast at our hotel. Service is good, more or less friendly (depending on the waiter) and the prices are reasonable. I found my blueberry pancakes a bit on a dry side, egg Benedict was wonderful...

A True Chicago Experience

By Robert G |

For lunch, brunch, or dinner this place never disappoints. The menu changes regularly and I am always excited to experience yet another culinary gem. As for regular dishes the Ghost Burger, the smoked turkey & brie and the Cuban bowl are all equally amazing. On a recent visit I had the Baracoa tacos which was very slow cooked brisket served with cilantro and onion. These tacos were some of the best I have had! Keeping in mind that I have traveled Mexico quit a bit and have had my share of Baracoa tacos. 3rd Coast is a true classy Chicago institution and dinning experience not to be missed when in Chicago.

Neighborhood friendly

By Maribeth D |

This restaurant prides themselves as neighborhood friendly restaurant. They actually have good choices for breakfast and one coffee choice but the best coffee in town. The only thing I can comment on is that they have to replenish their table jelly spread. Locals just went to my table and stole my jelly spread without asking.

Classic breakfast cafe

By Paul L |

Absolutely fantastic neighborhood and a great breakfast. All the classics including PBJ sandwich. We had omelet, bagels with lox, and the Chicago polish sausage with eggs. Really pleasant place.

Go to place on the Gold Coast

By Erskine S |

The family looked for a reasonable priced breakfast place for our study in Chicago. We found it here!coffe was excellent and the portions were just right. Try the breakfast sandwich and see if you can finish it! I’ll be back...

Lives up to the reputation, don’t miss it

By Isaac L |

Stopped in because it was highly rated on TripAdvisor, and just a couple doors down from my hotel. At mid-afternoon, I was invited to pick my table. I had the Diablo tacos and the Key Lime Pie for dessert. Friendly, attentive, but not intrusive service. As other reviewers have noted, this is a hidden gem that feels more like a beloved hometown restaurant than a bastion of this extremely upscale neighborhood. Take a walk north along Dearborn afterwards to work off some calories, and admire the Gilded Age mansions that seem to go on forever. May was a perfect month to see them framed by the ornamental trees bursting into flower. Safe, quiet area.

Always go here when in town

By drnappy |

Excellent Breakfast place, excellent coffee and their scones are great, never mind that all their dishes seem prepared fresh per order.

Must try

By Rob K |

Outstanding place. Great food and something for everyone. Pizza is great, the Chinese chicken noodle soup is outstanding. Pan fried potatoes are awesome. Owner features artists. All around must try.

Chilling in Chicago

By Winston W |

3rd Coast Cafe & Wine Shop is a fabulous restaurant with a warm atmosphere. If you want a late breakfast go here because it's breakfast all day. I had the house omelette and I enjoyed it. I will come back here again, especially if I am staying at Public Chicago Hotel which is a quiet gem.

Our search for the perfect lunch break ended happily there

By Swissworld_traveller |

The entrance may not be the most engaging of all but once you are inside, you won’t regret walking through the door. Very friendly staff and quality homemade food make this place the perfect lunch break. We had the best tacos ever ! Prices are also very reasonable, especially given the upscale area.

Excellent breakfast; nice ambiance

By PKFelix |

The food is really good as is the artwork and music. Great place for breakfast. The coffee is also very good as is the service.

Good Food

By Michelle C |

Not my favorite place but certainly no complaints! The food and service was good. I had a lovely vegetarian sandwich with a spinach Ceasar. My daughter had the grilled cheese and was happy with her choice as well.

Fantastic breakfasts!

By Cindy B |

Quaint little spot that was packed both times we stopped! Excellent staff and food. Local art hangs on the wall. Huge servings, great coffee and homemade everything! Will absolutely go back when in town.

Nice if you're looking for simple qqch from this neighborhood

By elodie g |

Very nice place. Frequented by local people, old enough public. Variety of menu and Reasonable Award.

Nice neighborhood cafe

By Azntiger |

Great place to have a casual meal any time of the day. Had breakfast with family members who live in Chicago. It's there go to place when they want good food in a friendly atmosphere. There are two dining areas (which can get rather loud when it's full of people). For breakfast I had smoked bacon (which was amazing) along with scrambled eggs and toast. The restaurant attracts all kinds of crowds both young and older. Street parking only and they are open quite late. I would be a regular if I lived in the neighborhood!

Every year

By Pecpmc |

Love this restaurant for any meal any time - visit every year and suggest it to friends visiting Chicago

Local spot with excellent food!

By Jennifer R |

We have a seminar here every 6 week sand we always come for lunch here. We are always impressed with the food and service. A great place for a quick bite. I LOVE how they highlight local artists too!

Good Food. Good Service.

By Bonnie T |

This neighborhood restaurant has good food and good service. The menu is fairly extensive, and prices are comparable to similar restaurants. Best to walk there, as there is no parking lot, and street parking can be hard to find.

This is where the neighborhood goes for dinner

By BeeCee D |

Was staying nearby, went there twice for dinner. Easy-going, filled with locals. Not haute cuisine, but good. Staff is friendly.

Can’t Recommend This Place Enough

By Ayla N |

WOW. I was blown away by this little cafe, the coziness and comfort I felt walking into the restaurant made me want to eat here again and again and again. In fact- we did!! We were staying in the hotel next door so we came in for breakfast several times and made it in for dinner one night and had the best pork Marsala with crispy potatoes that makes me drool just thinking about it. BUT the real star was the Pesto Eggs Benedict, the pesto hollandaise was to die for and my husband’s Huevos Rancheros was so amazing with the house made sauce!! I was thoroughly impressed and amazed by the kitchen that makes practically everything in house and with love. You can really tell the owner takes tremendous pride in her restaurant and pours her heart out into her work. Definitely make the trip here, you won’t regret it!!

Great late lunch

By slynngermany |

The cozy corner stop perfect for breakfast, lunch or a glass of wine. We stopped by for a fabulous late lunch and were greeted by a warm staff, great food in the perfect environment. Don’t miss the chance to enjoy this little gem.

Very good brunch, no wait, homestyle

By Bellatako |

Never disappointed at 3rd coast cafe. The brunch is very good. It is consistent and freshly cooked. You can get classics and some more innovative dishes so it is something for everyone with an unassuming atmosphere. It’s a short walk from downtown which is nice to get out of the bustle of the Gold Coast. The Benedicto is delicious and my husband said the omelette was very good. The hash browns are crisp and tasty.

Perfect Chicago Ambiance

By dommymichelle |

This cozy café feels like classic Chicago (or at least how I’ve always envisioned it!). Warm, welcoming, and just the right amount of vintage feel. If I lived here, this would be my regular spot! Food: excellent quality, no fuss or pretension. The hash browns are perfectly crispy, the “Betty” bene (hybrid of avocado toast and a classic eggs Benedict) was fabulous. Good food, wonderful and friendly service, and exceptionally affordable prices. 3rd Coast is truly a treasure and enhanced my Chicago travel experience in such an authentic way. Thank you to Janet and the staff that made me feel so welcome!

Relaxed vibe + great service + impossible burger

By MG2009 |

Very happy with our meal at 3rd Coast Cafe. Relaxing Sunday dinner with my son. Great blues music in the background. $5 glass of wine. Interesting paintings of rock icons. My first Impossible burger - as good as everyone says

Delicious Food and Excellent Service

By Karolyn D |

This place is so unique and a great find. Would highly recommend this is on the list of places to experience. The food is delicious and the staff here are second to none. It feels like home from home.

Just right for lunch

By James M |

We stopped for lunch on the recommendation of a stranger. It’s located just below street level in an apartment building, and has a “Chicago feel” with pictures of Chicago landmarks, dark woods, and cloth napkins on sturdy oak tables. Only a few tables were occupied about 1 on a Wednesday, and service was fast. We split a cup of chicken peanut soup (served very hot) and the club sandwich ($14) that comes with a salad (pungent dressing). It was just enough food, good variety, and well prepared.
