Best soup ever!

By dwillgolf |

I stopped in to get a piece of their touted blueberry pie. It was excellent; not quite up to the blueberry pies in Maine last fall, but money well spent. I notices they had cream of mushroom and artichoke soup. I brought a bowl home as i hadn't seen the combination before. Both my wife and I thought it the best soup we've ever tried. We'll be back more often!

By glad_9 |

Everything was great ,has to be the best cornbread in town ,a group of us went for lunch on Saturday ,it gives great portions and we all ate everything on our plates, the waitress was very friendly and I love the 50s decor ,and the music was great ,I expected the Fonz to walk in . Really if you get a chance eat here, you won't be disappointed.

Wasn't the memory we'd enjoyed in the past...

Lunch and the first time we've been here in years. We were seated in the bar area and liked the quiet, kind of private area. The waitress, Maria, was adorable. I ordered the Snapper with Artichokes and Mushrooms in a garlic butter sauce. My sides were the 'famous' Sonora casserole and the stewed cabbage. The snapper, though good, didn't really seem to have a 'sauce'. There were mushrooms and minimal artichokes parts topping the fish, however it appeared sauceless (dry). I reheated my take home portion later with a sauce of butter, touch of garlic, capers, more artichokes and a smidge of sherry. It was much improved. I feel the Sonora casserole would be better with more zucchini. The stewed cabbage was Wonderful! My husband wouldn't recommend the butter beans (his usual fav). The manager also approached someone in the booth next to us and carried on a loud conversation that went on forever involving personal conversation. It certainly reflected on our enjoyment of our meal.

The food was great. I had the salmon with Caesar salad. Cornbread sweet and delicious. Tryed the homemade pies. We left the plates clean Will definitely be back. Great comfort food. Staff was very friendly too

Down home, healthy dining.

By moondog45 |

Had lunch, recently, and the food, service, quality, and price were excellent. Whenever I'm in the mood for just great home style cooking, I immediately think of the 410 Diner, in San Antonio. On this occasion, I had the chop steak with mushrooms and gravy, vegetable rice, and mashed sweet potatoes. All were excellent, reasonably price, and the service was excellent, as always.

Believe all the good reviews

By Tom T |

It’s by the SA Airport. COMPLETE menu. Veggies were all good. I had the Snapper California and there was enough for two. Actually better than my old time neighbor diner. Clean. Good price. Quick service. Oh, a full service bar. Lots of local seniors for their weekly night out. I don’t write many reviews. Just go. Thanks

Comfort food in a retro, relaxed setting; great for vegetarians

By Aj H |

We have been going to 410 Diner in San Antonio for decades. It never changes its focus, which is classic comfort food + lots of fresh vegetables daily (there are usually 15 or more choices including dishes such as curried okra, various potato preparations, eggplant, etc). Most recently we tried the Chicken California which was a simple but delicious dish. Great for families, kids, and for those who never tire of the classics.

Never disappointed

By Traci A |

I have been coming here for years. When I was a kid (in the 80s) my folks would bring me here for a handspun milkshake. Yum! Now I take my own kids. We live in Austin, so this is generally where we stop on our way back from SeaWorld, the Zoo, the Riverwalk, etc. On this particular occasion it was on our way back from the beach in North Padre. We ate absolutely EVERYTHING on our plates. I had the Chicken California with mushroom and artichoke soup and fresh spinach. Perfect! My husband had chicken fried steak, cream gravy, mashed potatoes and curried okra. My older son went with a grilled cheese basket and my younger one with chicken nuggets. Everything was excellent. The great things about 410 Diner is there varied options and their daily specials board. The menu changes all the time, but it's so easy to try new things because you know whatever you try will be tasty and homemade. The service staff are great - friendly and knowledgeable and always with a smile. And my kids love the crazy neon decor and vintage ads.

This Diner is Not Aging Gracefully

By bobemac |

This restaurant is a 1950's diner with all the Rock & Roll golden oldies playing and has been around for over thirty years. It was a lot better early on. We were seated by a Rubenesque hostess in short shorts, but nobody let our station's server know. We sat for ten minutes in a half full restaurant, before we were recognized. We ordered chips and queso a standard for local food emporiums, and a solid indicator of what to expect going forward. The chips were thick and crispy=good, but they had an untasty flavor to them=bad. The queso was thick=good, but tasted strange=bad. I ordered the chopped sirloin, and it arrived nearly burned and hard. The server forgot to ask how I liked it, and I neglected to specify. So, I guess the default for cooking meat is well done at this place. The steak comes with a nasty mess of watery onions and small mushroom pieces that had no taste. The brown gravy was just that. My sides were broccoli and blackeye peas. The broccoli was under-cooked, dry and cold. The peas tasted fine. My partner had fried chicken liver with cream gravy. She liked them. Her coleslaw was less than bland, but her fries were OK. Most of the servers wear shorts, but they should put some more time on the tread mill. The EPA could issue citations here.

Great food and atmosphere

By Karen S |

Comfort food and great staff!! You feel like you are in the 50's all over again and the selection of foods is wonderful. Even had a nice kid's menu for the younger set.

Such a cute diner with good food!

By usnamom2001 |

We were surprised by this little gem near the airport. It is a whimsical step back in time in decor and quality of service and food. We appreciated the level of service, variety in the menu and quality in the food. Really recommend it for all whether locals or travelers.

Land of the walking dead

By KickBak-n-Yak |

Went on a Saturday night, it was steady but not too busy. We ordered the seafood platter; wasn't good. The service sucked to say the least. We sat for 10 minutes after being seated before i asked for a waiter and that took another 3 minutes. They switched servers mid-dinner and it was just bad all the way around. For the price, I would not recommend at all. I think giving them 2 stars is generous now that I think about it. I haven't eaten there in probably 15 years; no doubt that it will be another 15 before trying again.

Dined Here Since 1982!

By Englishprof2014 |

There is no doubt that the menu is great as a short-order diner! Dean and his staff are friendly and efficient. The prices are most reasonable and the coupon for buy-one-get-one-free offers great value. The seafood platter is my favorite while my wife likes the snapper. The corn bread rocks! Thanks for so many years of great food and service!

Chicken Fried Steak Brings Me Back!

By RhondaHTrip |

The decor is older-diner, waitstaff is very welcoming, and there is something truly special about their country fried steak! I have brought out--of-town guests here and they agree! Many great choices of sides on the chalkboard, and I often opt for the 5-veg plate, always a taste tread and never disappointing. The corn bread is wonderful, too! This is a diner that you can easily get to after picking up guests at the airport.

Elvis and Good Food

By Marla20102013 |

This place has a real old fashioned diner feel from the posters of Elvis and Marilyn Monroe to the 60's music. The décor is fun, but the best thing about it is the food. They have a chalkboard listing specials and all of the veggies. You get to pick two with your entrée. It's a big menu with a variety of chicken, fish and beef dishes, as well as salads, sandwiches and unusual soups. There are older people eating here because of the old fashioned vibe, but the food is great for any age.

My favorite spot when I fly back into town

By Charles S |

I travel a lot for work so if I get in around lunch time I head to the 410 Diner. Excellent home cooked food. Lemon butter trout is my favorite.

Home Cooking at Its Best.

By Aunttabby |

Large diner with a large menu - if you can’t find something delicious here, you need to stay home. There were 3 of us. One ordered the blackened snapper and said it was perfectly prepared. Another ordered grilled cheese and soup and I ordered the crispy fried chicken salad which was so good I want to have it again and again plus it was huge so plan on eating on it for 2 days. I also had the cornbread, huge pieces that were just slightly sweet, soft and fluffy. I also took home for later a piece of their deliciously tart rhubarb pie. This place was a big surprise in that it is like home cooking only better because I did not have to make it. Go, you won’t be dissapointed.

great cafe

By dwinningham |

410 diner stays consistently good in food quality and service. Great variety and excellent desserts.

Expensive mediocre food

By Stefanie |

We had great servicezuchini was ok. But the The appetizers was ok. Everything. Else was mediocre with an aftertaste. The fries were horrible. The cornbread had aa bitter aftertaste and if yiu want anything on your burger besides a patty and a bun plan on paying 1.50 to 2.00 for each extra. Overall very disappointing.

Your small hometown diner recreated

By ABE49 |

If you love small town diners, you need to try the 410 Diner. Lots of 50's and 60's memorabilia but not overdone. The real calling is the "just like home" food. I had liver and onions and it was terrific. Not everyone's favorite of course but very well done. Liver was crispy and covered with onions, gravy and some bacon, nice touch! Very fun staff that makes you fell like you are in their home kitchen. Wife and I were just there on Sunday, 8-3-14. She had her favorite "comfort" food of a grilled cheese and French fries. We brought home dessert of a slice of rhubarb pie which is VERY hard to find in the South and the usual staple of key lime pie. Both of those were very good with a wonderful crust on the rhubarb pie. YES, we will be back often! OH, and don't forget the corn bread!

Owner Yelled at Us for Using a Coupon

By Michele M |

Well...we liked the food but.... We came in with a coupon that was placed in a coupon book by the owner. We had out own, but a lady gave us one as she was walking in to be seated. We thought that was a nice gesture, but since we had our own we offered the 2nd one to a table of two women next to us. Just then, the owner came out of the office, and started yelling at us that we were taking money out of his pocket. We were shocked. All we did was hand someone else a coupon, that HE PLACED IN A COUPON BOOK. We have been loyal customers for 25 years, but we will never go back now.

Hit or Miss

By Jonathan S |

Extremely bland fish (snapper), my kids and wife all tried to finish one of my kid's small bowl of mac n cheese and all thought it was too gross to finish. Serving size for the price was small but they did give us sides of cornbread and 1 or 2 other sides of your choice so it was almost enough food. My wife's fish from the daily special menu was good. Overall I did not feel like it was a worthwhile dining experience.

GREAT HOMEY GRUB

By norm159 |

Living some miles from San Antonio, the 410 is a regular stop for us when we are in town. There is always decent parking, the atmosphere is one of relaxed '50s and I'm shocked reading some of the reviews of a place I sure have never experienced. Maybe the folks who have found it wanting were expecting something beyond good, hearty diner food, but how bad can a glass of iced tea be? Anyway, you get what you would expect to get in a '50s diner and every meal I have had was prepared well and tasted great and was a good value for the $.

Just an average diner

By globeseeker007 |

The food here is nothing out of the ordinary and the place is neither spectacular nor terrible. If you're looking for a place to have an average meal at a good price, this is it.

Good Home Cooking!

By WildHaireAdventures |

Stopped and ate here and enjoyed it. I had the chicken fried steak plate and it was very good. The staff was friendly and my service was good. I would eat here again if back in the area.

Great Place

By Michael P |

We went there for supper as it was close to our hotel, we could tell it was a good place as the parking lot was full. Warm greeting by owner, excellent service and food, and a nice bar too. We could tell there were several "regulars" there.

Good food, good value

By Ry A |

My aunt recommended the 410 Diner. Good job on her part. Good food, very reasonable prices, friendly and attentive staff!

just fun comfortable great staff

By skylanders |

We love this place, our daughter waited tables there and is now 50, daughter in law waited tables there and is 52, has been re done since we moved away in the 80's, just a fun casual place with great food for reasonable price, plenty of it. We have taken lots of people and staff remembers you to the point when one man goes with us she knows, seafood platter followed by a chocolate milkshake. great for vegeterians, get a 3 or 5 veggie plate with cornbread..good old fashioned chicken fried steak and gravy, liver and onions, salad, you name it and they have it...down home food in a fun spot, just love to go there.

Amazing little jewel of a restaurant!!

By Stephanie D |

My friends and I had lunch here before heading to the airport and WOW -- what a great little place. All the food we ordered was just excellent and the server was so friendly and helpful. The onion rings are to die for -- you must try them. I would definitely eat here again and recommend it 100%!

Down home cooking!

By Kathy R |

we have been wanting to go here and we mention it every time we drive, so today we were finally able to stop in and Iam glad we did! Food, service and prices are all great, portions were good. I had the grilled snapper with tomatoes and avocado slices on it, very tasty! cornbread was hot, which I loved, my husband had the chopped sirloin streak with onions, mushrooms and gravy, with fresh green beans, he loved it! he also got a piece of the apple pie, which he said was very good too! someone at the next table ordered the onions rings and when they came, there was a huge pile of them and they looked good too! I would go back again!!

One of my fav places to go

By Charles S |

When I fly back into town I very often go to 410 Diner. Love the trout with lemon butter. The veggies are great and I love the onion rings

High School Memories

By sollyjr |

Just really enjoy going to this diner due to the atmosphere and the fresh veggies, plus the plates of assorted meats and seafood. Love the cornbread right out of the oven most of the people who go in there are of the older generation and some even dress like back then. hardly anyone has an ipad, cell phone, laptop, etc. they just sit and talk and have a great time.

Authentic Art Deco Diner

By Fleurt123 |

Stopped here for hot tea and pie on a very wet Saturday. Most of their food is made from scratch and the rhubarb pie I had was delicious! Food is reasonably priced and service was ok. Ideal for all the family. The diner theme gives the place ambience as well as the 50s and 60s music played. Definitely worth a visit.

Rude and aggressive owner

By Jeremy C |

I have been a customer for 20 years and today the owner was rude and kick use out a group of six because after waiting for 5 min he sat us at a table that was crowded and only coulf fit 4 beacuse another table block the other 2 i told him he walked away so i found the spot we always sit at alway and we moved there he then came up to me and said no you have to move over to other table again i told him we cant fir there he then said leave he owned this place for 40 years im not the owner and to leave now while he put his hands on my back and pushed me or guided me away from the table . This is being reported to San Antonio better business

Food is very good...but the Staff is the best!

By Dave E |

Very good homestyle food. My wife had the salmon, I had the blackened snapper, daughter had the BLT; everything was very good. Mashed potatoes are really good. But the best thing about this restaurant is the Staff. Our waitress was super nice and funny, and fast. From what I could see, the other waitresses were really good also. The restrooms are super clean. 410 Diner is a great place to eat and have some family fun.

Attitudinal Dining

By Joy S |

I read a review from another individual about this location regarding the use of a coupon. Even though they had 'issues' with the manager with regard to using multiple coupons, a friend and I decided we'd take our chances (we were tired of Mexican food :)). So ...with coupon in hand (they send them in the monthly mail carnage for a buy one, get one free entree'). This is a true diner-ish environment with great food choices from chicken fried steak to veggie plates. There were a number of silver-haired patrons there :). The bathroom was clean and nice (always good to check those out before dining). I had blackened catfish ...my friend had chicken fried steak. Both dishes were pretty good with one caveat ...there was a hair in the gravy for the chicken fried steak. Our waitress had a tad bit of an attitude the whole time ...it started when she spied the coupon I had on the table. She proceeded to explain the 'house rules' for coupon use (you had to buy a drink with both entrees') or if we didn't use it, they'd take $2 off each dish (the coupon was a better deal). When the hair in the gravy was pointed out, the waitress took it away immediately ( as we heard the loud crash behind us of the gravy dish being 'thrown' in the cleanup bin. We got new gravy ...continued our meal ...and enjoyed ourselves. I actually wanted to rate this place a 2.5. It wasn't Mexican food. :)

Good fish

By PurplePaloma |

It is hard to find good fish at a restaurant. This is about as good as it gets, and I often order the salmon with the cucumber sauce. I also like the trout and the California snapper.

Cool place with something for everyone

By Traveler10000000000 |

This is a cool 50's type place to dine with a big menu that has something for everyone. The food ranges from good to excellent so overall I rate it Very Good.

A Diners Delight!

By John G |

This is a family friendly, packed, neighborhood diner owned and run by my good Dean. For 20 years, we have come here for great corn bread the widest selection of fresh vegetables and salads and great fish and meat. The staff, cooks and Waite staff make for a pleasant evening or lunch with more than reasonable prices. For a down home meal this is the place to come. Try it you like it!

Used to be great!

By 09erDiner |

This diner has been a fairly regular spot for our family since it opened. The owner Dean greets us by name so it is with much regret I have to report the last several dinner experiences were almost completely inedible. The wide variety of fresh veggies has been a signature component but the broccoli was almost raw, the sweet potatoes were so brown with sugar and cinnamon it was like eating pie filling. The vegetable soup was so salty and thick it was a sad joke. This cook is so bad there was no point in complaining to the waitress and Dean was no where to be found. Pass by on this place and head to Good Time Charlie's or Josephine Street grill where they are still cranking out good veggies and staples every day.

step back to the 50's in decor

By skylanders |

Love this place it was here in 1980 when I lived here and thrilled it is still here, been totally REdone to look the same, menu on chalk board, diner style, great home cooking, friendly staff, good bang for the buck, makes great milkshakes, real ones, has a bar for those that want to use it. After moving back to SA we have been often and never disappoints, my husband can do well there as he is vegetarian, the fish, the chicken fried steak, liver and onions..smile, yes I like it. Will go back and work our way down the menu, I look at others food coming out and go yum, will try that next time. Try it you will like it.

Great Selection

By Linda C |

Many choices, well priced. Daily specials very well presented. Lots of side options. The chef salad could be a meal for two. Cornbread was perfect. Service prompt and pleasant. We certainly would go again.

Added more to tip than authorized, food was average, atmosphere fun

By CRIO244 |

There were alot of good reviews but I was not impressed- it was really average, Had catfish with coleslaw and mashed potatoes, The fillet was thin and others in my group had the mac n cheese. I was expecting much more since it was 'homemade' but was not really impressed. By the way, someone added more to tip. Tab was $60 left a $10 but it was changed to $12..CHECK YOUR STATEMENT IF YOU USED A CARD TO PAY

Quick, tasty business lunch with colleagues

By J Person |

I was visiting our local office, and my colleagues recommended this place. It has the vibe of a 50's diner, with art on the wall and smooth surfaces all over. There are many specials, but I had the chicken caesar salad. It was excellent--large, fresh and tasty. They did not skimp on the chicken, which was also good. I ordered the onion rings, which tasted fresh made--crispy, hot and not too oily. We were too full for dessert. The waitress was very helpful and our food came out reasonably quickly. The price was right--not too expensive.

Restaurant Used To Be Great!!

By rjc1305 |

410 Diner used to be one of my favorite restaurants in San Antonio. Service, food and atmosphere was always awesome. We went last weekend and it was sadly our last visit we will make. The food was absolutely terrible. Nothing at our table was good. The burgers were awful and looked and tasted like they were boiled. The cole slaw was dry. The chicken fried steak had no flavor at all. The cornbread almost needed water added to it because it was so dry. Very disappointed. Not sure if there was an ownership change or what but we won't be back.

Got What I Wanted

By barpal609 |

I had been hungry for split pea soup and cornbread. It was on the menu, I ordered it, and enjoyed every bite. My husband had the oyster po boy and enjoyed it. A delightful dinner for both of us.

Not good period.

By M R |

Three of the four meals arrived at the table with hair in the BLT sandwiches, corn bread and fries. The service was okay at best. Unfortunately not at all like it used to be.

A hidden jewel on the northside of SA

By Mike M |

One of my favorite places to have lunch or dinner for many, many years. I can recall when this was a gas station before it came a restaurant. Great home cooking and always a wide variety of choices. I Love the Sonora casserole.

Second visit

Varied menu. Service was a little slow but only saw two waitresses. Food was tasty and well presented.

Big, thick milkshakes...

Yet another San Antonio restaurant cutting corners

By beechiegirl |

Maybe it's the poor economic times we're living in, but yesterday we saw where yet another S.A. restaurant is cutting corners by cutting their food portions. However, THIS cut was absolutely unbelievable. Do NOT order 410 diner's fried catfish. If you could totally separate the fish meat from the breading, you would end up with maybe two tablespoons of fish...maybe. Both my husband and I ordered it and had the same experience. They charge $11.95 for the catfish meal...catfish, two sides, and bread, and it definitely wasn't worth more than $2.95. When we discussed this with our waitress, she totally agreed and stated that this is why she never orders it for herself. She said it is the way they filet the fish, making it paper thin, with no fish taste at all because the fish isn't there. Also, since the vegetables are steamed, they have no flavor at all, and the green beans were almost raw. I had originally ordered cooked cabbage, but when it came, the way it was cooked was not at all appetizing to me, as it was limp, had no bacon seasoning, and contained only some bits of tomato. I exchanged that for the green beans, but left half of them. The mashed potatoes were just very ordinary. We used to love eating here, but both agreed that this was our last visit. It will always have its loyal elderly patrons, whose taste buds have diminished, I'm sure, but they sure won't get the younger crowd, unless they just go for hamburgers. Very disappointing.

Could be a little more neatly kept

By 49Stars |

This place needs a bit of TLC. I sat at the counter. Next to me were boxes of paper goods that needed to be put away. Maybe there's a better staging area than where customers usually sit. A little bit more elbow grease to clean the place up would be nice. I remember the entry door was grimy and needed only a few minutes to clean up.

50's theme and family friendly

By Diane W |

Large portions, nice staff. Large variety of foods. I had chicken with sauce with artichokes and it was yummy, my husband had the salmon with the same sauce. We were both pleased. Had burgers, fries, and onion rings another night and they were good also.

Still great food at very reasonable prices

By Steve S |

It had been at least 10 years since my last visit. 2 large fillets of catfish & 2 huge sides with a big square of cornbread for less than $9!!!! Many options to explore on the extensive menu. It will NOT be 10 years until my next visit.

Not just burgers

By kzschappel |

My trout was topped with capers, tomatoes, mushrooms, and hearts of palm in a dill sauce. It would have been $30 at the big seafood place down the road, but here it was 11.95 and came with 2 sides and cornbread! My husband's seafood plate was huge. He loved it. The little 3.95 margaritas are small but delicious. I would travel all the way across San Antonio to eat here again. Great service. A++!

Dinner with grandpa.

By Sammie W |

This place was cute and old fashion just like I like it. The waitress was really nice and came to our table often. I had buttered salmon and veggies which was delicious. My dad and grandpa had blackened fish with squash..... The squash however wasn't exactly done so maybe u need to pick something else for a side. I asked the waitress to grill the squash a little longer when she brought the squash back it was well....... I would pick something. Other than that it really good and 410 diner was really cozy atmosphere.

410 Diner Catastrophe

By DJ C |

If you are in San Antonio and looking for great food and a great dining experience DO NOT go to this eatery. The only explanation I can come up with why anyone would come back to this place is they have a rather aging clientele whom are all probably in the early stages of dementia and can't remember how bad the food was last time they ate there. The iced tea was horrendous!!! After four (4) sweeteners, it still was abhorrent. Our nice, but obviously overworked server apologized and said the last batch was bad, so they had made a "new" batch. News flash!!! "New" batch was as BAD as the "old" batch. I settled for ice water. (The most refreshing aspect of my entire experience.) I ordered chicken fried chicken, mashed potatoes, stewed cabbage and corn bread. Chicken fried chicken coating was over-fried, hard and cooked in, what tasted like outdated oil, of some kind. Coating left such an after taste in my mouth, I couldn't taste the chicken. Ate chicken without the coating. Mashed potatoes were "diner-friendly". Not bad, but I've had better. The white gravy was thin and tasted like flour. Ugh!!! Stewed cabbage was a welcome treat. They not only stewed the cabbage, but had stewed tomatoes with the cabbage; something I had not anticipated. But would have been better just boiling the cabbage with bacon for flavor. The corn bread was adequate. A bit dry, but tasty. Our server indicated the restaurant had recently hired a new cook. Recommendation: get a new one. Ambience was retro-1950s. Cute little signs, such as 1 dozen eggs for 25 cents. Cute, but hard to enjoy any ambience when you are choking on the disgusting food. I won't waste my time going back. Too many other good restaurants in San Antonio to experience.

Dinner with family

By Cassandra J |

Prices are just right. Variety of dishes and the meals are fresh and pleasing. The barley soup is great. Atmosphere transforms you to the 50's and staff is kind as can be. You will not be disappointed.

Always Good

The food is always fresh and tasty. The owner and staff are all hard workers.

The food and service was excellent.

The food and service was excellent. My favorite is the grilled chicken Acapulco. The waitress was very nice and gave me extra sauce on the side. The customers were spaced out and my couldn’t eves drop on anyone.

Great Eats & Discount Tuesdays

By elliott78212 |

Lets face it we are all looking for a bargain these days and you don't have to eat junk to get a good deal. Took my Aunt to 410 Diner for her birthday on a Tuesday in August who knew its discount day all menu items are $2 off. All the food was delicous, from my Artichoke Red Snapper to the Grilled Pork Chops and the sides are so fresh and homemade style lots of Veggie options to choose from. If your on a diet they have a wonderful selection of steamed goodies, and offer a wide selection of top drawer entrees from the simplest Burger to Surf n Turf with quality Soups of the Day loved the Barley Vegetable. Seafood Lovers take note they have Red Snapper, Flounder, Shrimp and even Catfish, if country cooking is your thing Chicken Fried Steak, Pork Chops and Southern Style Fried Chicken Livers. This place has something for everyone young or old, and the Atomosphere harkens back to a time before I was born. You'll get a sense of Happy Days Diner with old Neon Signs, posters and product signs. There is lots of seating with booths and tables plus a full bar if you want a drink or beer with your meal.

Leaving my husband for the curry okra

By LVSquared |

Seriously, run to 410 Diner and get the curry okra, it's amazing. We also had perfectly fried and breaded chicken fried chicken, delicious ratatouille and a light and bright catfish poboy. Nothing we ordered wasn't hot, fresh, or delicious. It has to be hard making everything ready to go and balancing a kitchen with customers, but they are doing a perfect job.

Manager is an idiot!

By Jim L |

Some friends and I ate at the 410 Diner. The food was OK and the service was OK too. What really got me was that the manager did not want to honor a coupon (my friends wife had a coupon for a buy one get one free) because only one beverage was purchased (I had a beer and they had water). We simply purchased a Coke and gave it to our waiter to enjoy to get around the idiot Manager's objection. Reminded me of Jack Nicholson in "Five Easy Pieces". Nitpicking like this drives me mad. You just can't fix stupid!

Tasty Home Cooking!

By P H |

Well not like my Mom's!!! More like my Grandmother's. I enjoyed everything about this place. It is evidently popular with area business people at lunch because it was crowded. If you are stuck at the San Antonio Airport grab a cab for a quick ride to 8315 Broadway to 410 Diner. Literally around a Texas size block from the Airport. Service was great, daily specials and the area specialties. I am a fried chicken liver fan and I was not disappointed. Good non greasy portion, tasty veggies and great dipping gravy. The rest of my party was equally pleased with their orders. Prices are very reasonable. Sandwiches, burgers, steaks, fish etc... Give it a try.

Food is great! However, the food servers never offer refills on coffee. They need to be more aware of empty tea, coffee, and water glasses and cups.

Great service and wholesome fod

By Nigel C |

Good old fashioned diner. Went Sunday lunch, suspect church let out as average age was around 70, but well dressed and old school politeness. Very varied menu and great specials, lots of sides to choose from (almost too many for one visit).went with chicken fried steak, huge portion on plate, though meat content less than first visualized. But side were good, and good starter of soup and chicken fingers with country gravy. Service was excellent, there when needed, and super fast food delivery. Overall, nice visit for old school type lunch.

Just pass this place, dont waste your time

Horrible place, not worth your time. Many other places better. Opportunists, looking to cut corners at customer expense.

Flair, Flavor, and a Fair Price

By David E |

410 is a old fashion diner is an old fashion menu with old fashion prices with an old fashion atmosphere and it is fair priced and taste great and is worth it. Our party of four order four different items and we all enjoyed our lunch and we will return again. I loved my club sandwich, my wife had a bacon cheeseburger with onion rings. I don't remember what our friends ordered, but they were the ones who recommended it.

Average food. Friendly staff.

By Jcsflyboy |

Had California Grilled Chicken (w/avocado and tomatoes), spinach and stewed cabbage. Cabbage was great. But they apparently don't drain anything. The spinach was like they opened a can and poured it into the bowl. ..juices and all. Same with chicken. ..it came on the plate drowning in the juices from cooking. The staff was very friendly. They do not separate greases for fish and other fried items.

Sort of disappointed

My husband and I were in S. A. on a leisure trip and, as we nearly always do when in town, ate here for lunch. Lots of cars in the parking lot, but guess each held only one patron, as the restaurant wasn't that crowded. We were seated in the "back room" and noted that only one server was working the area. A large group was seated nearby and we guessed that our service would be slowed. It wasn't. We were impressed with her attention to all the tables she was handling. I had soup, which was o.k. My husband had the three vegetable plate...green beans, lima beans and mashed potatoes. He took one bite of the green beans and asked our server if they could be exchanged...they were under-cooked and almost cold. Our server commented that the green beans were always like that and that was why she never ate them herself. The other items were good. We had pecan pie for desert, but we thought it was a small piece for the price. It, too, was o.k. We've been eating at this establishment for many years on our trips to S.A. We might reconsider our pattern in future visits to the city, as our impression is that "it's just not the same as it used to be." I'm very sorry that this is the case, as we've really enjoyed our past visits.

Something for everybody

This is a fun restaurant if you enjoy music from the 50s and 60s and a diner that looks like it came right out of the 50s. Sure they have great chicken fried steak but I usually order the fish, mostly broiled and sometimes with surprising sauces and toppings like capers. They must have 20 sides to choose from, great service and the prices are right; especially on Tuesdays when it's $2 off of entrees. I also like the poorboys, hamburgers, and fried seafood platters.

True Homemade - Fresh Cooking

By TexasAg69 |

Located just off Loop 410 in San Antonio this family owned restaurant has excellent home made style food and tons of sides and fresh vegetables, all prepared fresh. Squash pudding and Brocolli and Rice Casserole are two favorites. You get a choice of Corn Bread or Wheat Bread. Much of their business are repeat customers and that says volumes. You will not be dissappointed.

Ancient filth

By im_justin_sane |

Very old establishment, and it shows. 50’s theme with grease and grime on the walls and corners to match (and clientele on this Sunday). Prices are normal for a cafe, figure about $15 per person with a drink. Lots of fish and seafood, NO breakfast available. Kind of a strange menu for a nostalgic theme. It wasn’t horrible, but I wouldn’t return.

Brunch

Absolutely worst restaurant owner I have EVER been around, period!

By Relax794387 |

The owner at 410 Diner in San Antonio is the most rude and insulting person I have been around in all the years I have been going to restaurants in the US and around the world. I ate there tonight at about 6:30pm on 4/2/2023. I did not agree that the restaurant should charge my wife for a Coke when she already was charged for a sweet tea. If you give free refills then what is the problem with changing from a sweet tea to a Coke. At every other restaurant that I have ever been to from smaller, low key restaurants to fine dining restaurants, have they ever charged two times for getting a soda after first getting a sweet tea. When I explained to the owner that I didn't feel that it was correct to charge for both, he said that he was the owner and he could do that. I said we'll I am the customer and I don't agree with that. That is at the point where he got an attitude. Instead of trying to work with me or try to understand me, he immediately got confrontational and argumentative. I was wearing a retired Army hat. I say that because he began to insult me as a military service member. He actually told me that the military should be embarrassed for letting me into the military. I served over 24 years of active duty service and was deployed to combat during that time. I have never felt so much disrespect from anyone outside of the military than today. This is the owner of a restaurant that treated me this way. If anyone reads this and is thinking of going to this restaurant (especially a current or retired military service member, PLEASE take your money and business elsewhere.

good home cooking

410 diner is a good place for home style food. Qualities high and staff is helpful;. desserts are really great.

Perfect grilled fish

By Mariah S |

Grilled trout with dill sauce and vegetables and snapper with lemon butter sauce and artichoke hearts and mushrooms were perfect. When I told the waitress my cornbread would serve well as a dessert, she brought us honey. She brought a glass of ice with chic straw and lime slice to accompany my Topo Chico. Our vegetables were perfect, too. Potatoes sautéed with onions, yellow squash was cooked to just enough tenderness. It was a Sunday, and a lot of happy after-church seniors were meeting here. Of special note are the unisex restrooms, which are spacious, nicely equipped, laden with shiny black and white tiles, and very clean. Every time I come here I like this place even more than before.

Great Nostalgia

By 1st_WorldCitizen |

I was well pleased that my Cousin Suzy chose this nostalgic venue for us to meet after 37 years. 410 diner was a bit reminiscent of my great-aunt's sandwich shop in Shawnee, OK. When I mentioned to my cousin that I would need a glass of wine after my grueling 4 hour meeting, I was just dropping a hint that I wanted her to choose a venue with a bar. I arrived a few minutes early and when I entered, there was a sign, 'please wait to be seat'. As I was waiting to be seated, I was looking around and didn't see a bar and everyone seemed to be drinking ice tea and sodas. I turned to my left to see a wall of glass cinder blocks and peeking slightly above that wall, there was a neon Budweiser sign. I wandered off to the left to investigate and lo and behold, there was a bar behind that glass cinder block wall. I sat down at the bar, ordered a glass of wine and waited for Cousin Suzy. After salutations, a long hug and kiss, it was time to order. I had my eye on the seafood platter special with the 2 sides of curried okra and stewed cabbage. The seafood platter consisted of catfish fillets, 6 shrimps, hush puppies and cornbread. The catfish fillets had a nice light batter and were fried to perfection. I wish that the same batter on the catfish was used to on the shrimp as the batter on the shrimp was a bit heavy and not very flavorful. I am not a big fan of hush puppies and after I bit into one, I remain to be, not a fan of hush puppies. The stewed cabbage was a bit mundane, lacking good seasoning but the curried okra stole the show!! It was amazing!! The Chocolate Silk Pie was a good reason why I normally don't order dessert. With the nostalgic atmosphere, I was expecting a warm Jello chocolate pudding pie but instead got a frozen chocolate ice cream pie with whipped cream. I really like 410 Diner and will definitely return to try out some items that I saw on the menu. The wait staff was excellent

Pretty Good Diner

410 Diner is consistently good. If you like Diner food then this is a good one. The Grilled California Chicken is my favorite with a butter garlic sauce and grilled tomatoes and avacado slices.

Diner fare with extra care

By Melissa P |

This is a very typical old fashioned kind of diner. The waitresses were super nice and attentive. Food came out really quickly. The food choices are definitely a step above burgers and sandwiches. The sheer variety of vegetable choices makes this a great pick if you're trying to eat healthy. I had blackened fish, which was really pretty high quality. Some of the vegetables are just steamed and may lack a little flavor, while others have something added to them. Ask if in doubt. The pies also look fabulous, but the combination of our plates and giant cornbread portions left us no room at all.

Good, old-school diner

By JohnsonIV |

The restaurant is well-worn, but kept in good shape. The entrees are enjoyable, but the vegetables surprisingly lacked flavor and the cornbread was dry and equally flavorless (despite looking amazing). The staff is friendly but a bit entertainingly rough around the edges.

Consistently Good

Have eaten here on several occasions. Enjoy the great selection of sides including numerous vegetables. Tastes like home-cooking.

One of our favorites in San Antonio

By sandimom45 |

We have been going to the 410 for at least 15 years and have never had a bad experience. There is a large variety of choices from fish to Chicken fried steak and more veggies than any restaurant I know of. We have loved the chicken fried steak, fried and grilled catfish and snapper plus grilled sirloin steak (specify doneness or it will be grey). They also do a good burger and fries. I love all the veggie options. We are usually too full for dessert but often take a piece of their delicious pie home for later.

Good value at an old-fashioned diner.

By TravelingOn49 |

We were pleased with the food and service at the 410 Diner. The decor is 1950-ish, lots of nostalgia. The server was friendly and efficient. The prices were very moderate. There are daily specials. The coconut cream pie was outstanding.

Great value in a convenient neighboorhood diner there since 1930!

By TCregular |

You won't find cloth table cloths here, but the food is simply outstanding! Four times a year, a group of 8 to 10 of us eat here on a Saturday evening. We go nowhere else. The location on Broadway is a short drive from/to the Best Western on Jones Maltsberger where we stay. This diner is old but highly recommended if you like good food. Try the Sonora casserole as one of your sides!

Old Style Southern Diner

By TXBrad |

The 410 diner is in a neat building and with fun decorations. There are old pictures and interesting signs. And of course the menu has all the menu items you would expect in a Texas diner. Prices were reasonable to low for good sized portions. We took my 93 year old mother in law and she really enjoyed it. My wife and I are both vegan and expected we would end up with a just okay salad. It turned out there were more than 5 vegan options for sides and the 3 veggie plate and 5 veggie plate gave us the chance to have a variety of food and was really low cost. And the salad my mother in law ordered looked great. We bought parents a gift certificate and we will be back. They did seem understaffed for the Sunday afternoon crowd and service was a bit slow.

Fun Diner Experience, Great Diner Food

By Susan M |

This diner is a great find for us. The parking is great, the food is awesome and the service is excellent. Great menu with LOTS of choices and more sides then you can imagine. I had the salmon with a vinaigrette cucumber salad adorning the fish. A bowl of black eyed peas, whipped yams and a piece of wheat bread completed my selection for the 9.99 lunch special. My husband had the chopped steak with mushroom gravy, mashed potatoes, black eyed peas and a piece of cornbread for 7.99. Both lunch specials were served hot and our drinks were refreshed often. The waitstaff is very attentive and we were there during their busy lunch hour. Did not have room for dessert but I will definitely save room next time!!! I saw a coconut creme pie on the table next to me that looked awesome! Restrooms are pristinely clean. We will be back soon!!

If you are in the San Antonio area and want to eat at a through back diner the 410 Diner is the place to visit. Maria was our server. She was helpful and friendly. I happened to see that they had curry okra on their menu, and she brought me out a sample. Not bad. Price was reasonable and the food was pretty good.

Best place around for freshly prepared American dining!

By John |

Old fashioned in every way, 50's atmosphere, smiling and friendly service, oh......and great food at a reasonable price, too! Want some tasty, fresh and healthy food, this is the place for you.

Great food, terrible management.

By 1ronnie |

The food is delicious, everything I've ordered is great. However, the owner is so rude. He has gotten after his employees in front of customers, one time he asked a couple to leave his restaurant for sharing one of their coupons with another table. He talks bad about his employees to others customers. Super rude and unprofessional. Food was really good though.

Worth it!

Had heard about this old dive restaurant for years and finally had an opportunity to go. It’s seems little bit pricey when you look at the menu but the truth is, it’s not pricey at all when you see the quantity. I made 2+ more meals out of my absolutely delicious lunch. Great menu. Sooooo much deliciousness to choose from!
