Our family had a delicious meal here. The porchetta appetizer, spaghetti carbonara and the fettuccine porcini were so rich and flavorful. The young adults were worried they wouldn’t be able to find anything to eat but enjoyed themselves. I had forgotten how good tiramisu can be. Yum.

Within walking distance to theatre district. Arrived early for our 6:45 reservation and they were happy to seat us. Service was great as they offered plenty of explanation about menu items and suggestions on wine choices. Food was excellent as well. Sat downstairs in the wine cellar which was fine. Highly recommend 54 Mint.

Great place and great food. The pasta was delicious. Service was very good too. You need to do a reservation.

Had lunch here with a friend during the SF Restaurant week. Good ambience and service, but the food was unfortunately disappointing. We had the Restaurant week menu, my friend's pasta was under-cooked, hard and doughy. My pork dish was oily and salty. Maybe the regular menu would be better choice

The food here is authentic and delicious. On the pricier side (especially wine), but a great place for a treat. Try the suppli and cacio & pepe in particular!

Just finished a casual Saturday night dinner here and it did not disappoint. Let’s be real, Italian food is usually good but this place takes flavors to another level. It is Roman style Italian, which is simple dishes with bold flavors. They do it perfectly! The bruschetta with sea urchin is outstanding and something I have never seen before. The octopus is without question the most tender I have ever had, and I have eaten a lions share of octopus in my lifetime. Main pasta dishes were perfectly cooked and just enough to not make you feel overly stuffed when you leave the table. Very nice wine selections as well as many signature cocktail choices. Would absolutely return again on another trip to SF.

Had lunch with friends, sharing 4 different pizzas that were superb in quality, specially the bread used for pizza was exceptionally good, as the flour is imported from Italy. House wine and coffee were also great and the service was great as well.

I was in town from the east coast visiting my three adult children who all live and work in SFO. We had been out at Saison the previous night and wanted something more casual and walking distance. 54 Mint fit the bill. The food was G-VG, service was excellent, and 54 Mint has a good selection of Italian wines at reasonable prices. Atmosphere was great, and we had a very enjoyable evening.

Real Italian restaurant. Food was excellent: octopus was some of the best I ever had. friendly staff. Reservations recommended.

We ordered cocktails and apps. I told the waitress that my margarita was more ice than drink. It was literally 3 sips for $19 . The waitress ask me how the drink was and I responded by telling her it was more ice than drink. She said she would take care of me and bring another drink. She charged me for the other drink, which was also 3 sips (total of $38 for 6 sips) and charged me $9 for extra bread that I did not order. I brought it up to the waitress and she told me the manager said “too bad” I was in a rush to get to another venue , so I had no time to argue. I tried to call but have not heard back.

I went to this place for my birthday (Jan. 16) with no reservations at all and the place was packed. The host was kind enough to get me a table for me and 6 of my friends at the lower part of the restaurant. The entree, wine, and main plates were spot on (Gnocchi and spaghetti were delicious). The only reason I don't give this place 5 stars is due to the fact that they wanted to charge me 3 dollars per plate for the cake I BOUGHT and TOOK myself to the restaurant. Other than that, I would recommend checking out this place for a nice, fancy and trendy dinner.

We had a fabulous evening!! The service was good and the food excellent! We had the fried anchovies and the grilled octopus as starters, both were great! I had the pasta with porcini mushrooms and asparagus and my husband had the squid ink pasta, well we both thoroughly enjoyed our meals and agreed we would be back and order exactly the same again!! All wines are Italian and we had a very nice crisp white bottle.. totally recommend you give it a try if you want a nice vibe !!

We read a lot of recommendations for this place and because we were staying at a hotel close by, we decided to try it. The trattoria has a bar upstairs, but the restaurant itself is in the basement. It is a small place with urban decor; I didn't think it was warm and inviting. Contrary to some reviews, I found the food to just be average, as was the service. Maybe it was just an off Sunday night?

The ambiance is great, the service very friendly and professional, the food good, the prices too high, they charge 45 dollars for corkage, 20 dollars for a cocktail where 90%of the glass is made of ice, totally absurd. Still, you can have a very nice experience if you don't mid the extremely high prices

This is one of the worst places we ve ever been. They are extremely overpriced and food quality is super poor. They do not even make their pasta and charge the dish for $18. Salads were a joke and wine not good. We were biased by the good reviews but it was a mistake. They serve fancy nothing to people with no food education. What a shame.

I felt this is a family italian restaurant, the manager who is italian I guess haha. All italian restaurant here would be very busy started from 8 pm. Good meal, good service. Even though this is not a fancy restaurant, but the food taste very delicious. See you some day again. Cheers.

Very nice restaurant as lives up to the many good ratings. Pleasant staff, good food and able to handle special order from my children. I would imagine the restaurant would be ever more suitable for a group of adults also having a pre or after dinner drink.

The food and service was awesome. The host and chef came over to check from time to time. Will vidit again. Try the fish based items!

We came across this restaurant on a list in our hotel lobby. We are very glad we did! We didn’t book we just wandered along and they were able to seat us. However I recommend booking as it was seemingly a popular spot. The staff were friendly, service was quick and the venue was funky with a cool vibe. We started with the calamari and the croquettes both were delicious. For mains we had the carbonara and bucatini. Again, both well cooked and delicious along with great portion sizes. We split a bottle of red. Took a stab in the dark not familiar with Italian wines and it worked out well for both of us. We followed up with chocolate cake and tiramisu with the suggested wine matches. Such a good finish to a fantastic restaurant experience!

We only booked because of the reviews and we were staying round the corner at The Hilton. Called as the reservation said the earliest was 70 mins time and we were delighted when Vincenzo said 15 mins! Very warm welcome, fantastic environment and tremendous authentic food. We had mains of Gnocchi with Ragu, Tripe and offal (100 times better than it sounds) and carbonara. Followed by the Panacotta with Balsamic (incredible) and Chocolate cake. Would 100% recommend you go find this place.

My spouse and I dined at 54Mint during last year's Restaurant Week and enjoyed our meal very much. This year their prix fixe menu was equally good, if not better. I started with supplí, a beautifully presented artichoke and risotto croquette, with molten smoked mozzarella. It was shaped like a flan and had edible flowers; it was truly gorgeous. The main course was rigatoni with a slow-braised beef ragù. My spouse had veal saltimbocca with prosciutto di Parma and sage. We shared and found both dishes to be delicious. To supplement the veal, we ordered a side of potatoes, which turned out to be deep fried smashed fingerlings that were wonderful. I don't exaggerate when I say they were some of the best potatoes we've ever encountered. Our server, Eusebio, was very, very helpful and the room had a nice old-world feel. We can't wait to come back.

Great food, easy to find location, friendly staff, well worth a visit and would recommend if you are in SFO.

Best hand made pasta I have had in the city! The entire staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. Highly recommend!

Mint 54 has been a family favorite for us since we were first welcomed years ago. This is modern Italy, innovative dishes and some classics. Staff is always accommodating. The ambience inside or out is peaceful and enjoyable with a subtle vibe. This is where we have had family events and the Italian branch of our family goes every visit. The Steaks are a trip to Tuscany, the lamb, the pastas and the glorious appetizers. Truly one of our favorites.

Overpriced for average food. Bottles of wine very expensive. We had fettuccine with ragu sauce, basically spaghetti bolognaise which was average, followed by tiramisu again average. Disappointing for our last night in downtown San Francisco.

We were looking for a refreshing and quiet place for a dinner, to slow down and talk through the day. 54 Mint was next to our hotel, but I would return even if my hotel was farther away. In the last hours before close, we were welcome, seated and attended quickly. Their kindness and attention was felt throughout - I really like the atmosphere of the place. The food is simply fantastic! Rich, fresh, high quality, tradition and innovation combined. Prefect temperature, nicely presented, our waiter recommended us items that were not even in the menu. The glass of Sicilian wine went well with my dishes. Pricing is on the higher side, but completely worth it.

We were fortunate to get a reservation on a Thursday night; who would have thought it would be difficult, but we were shutout on other choices. We were literally over an hour early, but sat at the bar for an excellent cocktail, and were actually seated over a half hour early. The place is hip, but Italian all the way. The manager and server were both Italian, there were Italian-speaking diners, and we couldn't have been happier. My wife had an appetizer that was a flan of cauliflower and gorgonzola that was phenomenal, as was my beet salad. My wife's Carbonara was perfect, and the lamb chops (3) were as well. Good wine list, but I brought a Brunello Reserva from my cellar for the occasion; $30 corkage. Not a cheap meal, but top-end dining in SF is not.

This was our first time to 54 Mint and it was very nice. The service was excellent! We started with drinks, I had a cosmo and my husband had a Negroni. He'd never had one or Compari before and he doesn't like gin. Turns out that he doesn't like Compari either. My cosmo was great. We shared the insalata di indivia and the suppli al telefono. The salad was nice. The croquettes were outstanding! The were the highlight of the meal for me. For entrees, I had the cacio e pepe and my husband had coda alla vaccinara. I hadn't had cacio e pepe before. It was really good but so rich that I couldn't finish it. It would be great as a side dish along with some protein. My husband loved the oxtail, he savored every bite. We also had an order of broccolini which was flavorful. For dessert we shared the budino al cioccolato. It was also nice. It's a rich chocolate cream and not too sweet. It seems like the Italian version of the French pot du creme.

We walked over to this restaurant without a reservation. We were squeezed in after promising to be finished our meal before the next couple arrived. The waiters were very attentive. The bread before the meal was excellent. They have five Italian beers to choose from and an extensive wine list. The linguine with clams was very good, but a bit too much olive oil. The lamb chops were very tasty but a bit stringy. The restaurant was in the basement with people upstairs milling around with drinks. The restaurant was crowded with some large groups who were very noisy. I would imagine that on another night the atmosphere could be quite quiet and intimate.

Absolutely delicious pasta! The rice croquettes very recommended as a starter. Service was great! Very recommended!

Just a great meal. The freshness of the tomatoes in the salad, the pastas are amazing, the sides were great (love the broccolini) and some great wines. It was one of the better dinners I’ve eaten recently.

We stumbled upon 54 Mint by accident ....it was a lunchtime & we didn’t have a reservation. Luckily they were able to fit us in. We have to say we travel extensively, worldwide & visit Italy often & we were blown away by the quality, freshness & authentic Italian food. The fresh bread.....spaghetti ale Carbonara .....pork salad on a homemade bread bun.....followed by Pannacotta.....and of course vino & coffees..... Just off the scale for taste & presentation....we just loved this place.... Treat yourself & go find this place....but reserve a table if you can as I think we fell lucky!

Really nice pasta spot in downtown area. Nice wine list, good cocktails. The cacio e Pepe was delicious! Perfect portion size for me maybe a little small for some. Great ambiance. Off the main tourist beaten path but still easy to get to by walking.

Had a nice dinner with my husband & daughter. The food & wine are absolutely delicious. We were seated in the cellar, which is really cool to sit, but as it grew busier it was very noisy down there. Staff was friendly. Overall we liked it.

First of all - I can't believe this restaurant gets away with being a top rated Italian! Total rip-off! They have got a few Italians working here who I think are totally brain washed if they believe this restaurant serves good Italian! The worst Italian I have ever eaten and that includes eating in Italy! They serve beer which is called bierre italia - they say it tastes like Peroni - total lies. It's some cheap disgusting beer they have come up with in-house - tastes nothing like any reasonable beer for $6! Their wine selection is over priced! Worst of all the food - I don't understand why people think it's good!! Honestly it's not worth the money - $20 for a rubbish vegetarian pasta that is dry and the portion so small - you wonder where it went! I went to an Italian the day before called Uncle Vito - that's a true Italian with food that touches your soul for the fractio of the cost! This place is totally over rated with crap service and food - I wish someone had given it a true rating and I could have avoided ruining my last night in San Francisco! People please get out and find true Italian food - it most definitely is not what you get served here!!!

I tried to get in here on Monday night and the wait was 45 min. I tried on Wednesday and got lucky somehow. The service was great and the food too. Their calamari and the octopus appetizers were delicious. The fish meal was amazing too. Great place for dinner.

This has to be top 3 for Italian in San Francisco Very casual, unpretentious environment with delicious varieties of apps, pasta and entrees. Service professional, friendly and helpful First course choices ranged from octopus, fried whole smelts, panzanella salad and more. Our party of 5 shared 4 choices; all then chose 5 different pasta preps. Great carbonara, best gnocchi I remember, soft pillows cooked perfectly, orchiette pesto with eggplant and a spicy linguine. The pasta is the best we’ve had in the city. Large wine list reasonably priced adds to the pluses. Too much food to try their desserts; we’ll leave that to our next visit

The service was unbelievably warm and personal. The waiter may well have been the owner, as he knew absolutely everything about the menu and the wine list. So inviting and gracious. The food was absolutely outstanding. They appear to have an upstairs room (ground floor) and a lower level (basement). We didn't go down there but it didn't look as nice as the upstairs room. I can't wait to go back the next time I'm in SFO!

A restaurant with so much potential but not living up to it. Waited an hour for a table (although I had a reservation) but got a free drink for the inconvenience. Food was pretentious, lacked seasoning and the portions were small but the waiter was a delight. Sadly disappointing.

After too many american burgers it was great to spend 1 top meal here. Staff is great. Know what they sell and not afraid to give a reco. Was very busy but still personal service and flexible for the kids (10 and 11). Wines by the glass were really nice. Ate burrata, bistecca, lamb chops and spaghetti matriciana. You just taste the fresh quality ingredients. Pricing lower than junk food quality food around pier 39..Will for sure recommend and return myself! Grazie mille!

The food was good, but nothing special. I had calamari, which was a bit undercooked. The waiter was exceptionally slow in bringing my drink, which came only half way into the meal.

The Shrimps in hell are fantastic! Calamari in Purgatorio... The pasta is home made and the ambiance felt like a little Roman oase of dolce far niente in the middle of hectic San Francisco

54 Mint was recommended by our hotel concierge, and they were right. The fresh, delicious Italian food was as treat, as was our lovely server from Rome. Definitely going back. Bravo!

A beautiful niche Italian restaurant with wonderful menu options and great wine selection. We were made to feel very welcome and Francescia was an amazing hostess. Food was delicious. Recommend indulging in the dessert wines. Thank you.

On a recent business visit a colleague and I ordered a pour of Kavalan at the bar. Our error was that we didn’t specifically ask for the price, but assumed it would be along the lines of other similar single malts that were listed around $20. Later at the dinner table the server offered specials for the evening including what sounded like an appetizer size black truffle whose price was also not shared but assumed that it would be a bit more expensive than other pasta dishes on the menu listed around $20s. When later on the bill the charges noted in the title came to be known, the server and the night manager advised they couldn’t do anything. Upon writing later to the General Manager - Kenichiro Matsuura refunded $100 of the ~$270 charged. While he argued his position, didn’t seem to hear what we were saying. Experience like this is unfortunate, leaves a sour taste and one wonders on what could have been done better? Something the management should reconsider.

Wife and I here for dinner on a weekday night. Short wait for a table. Began with Carpaccio di Capocollo. Then Fusilli alle Melanzane and Gnocchi al Ragu. Food served hot, very tasty. Big portions. Service good. Prices reasonable.

Prepare to relax & unwind just off market st in a quiet plaza, sometimes quality food trucks and outdoor seating. Cafe populated by international staff who attend to you most professionally Full bar, tea and espresso, and cafe society food. Beer on tap Step out of SF and step into European Cafe Life Regulars abound. Find your way off Montgomery, near Jessie and close to Market

We visited for lunch as usual it was one of the best italian in town. Only pitty think was their menu was very limited. Very suggestible

Good food but certainly not brilliant. Excellent waiter who was extremely knowledgeable. The restaurant is very brightly lit and the ambience is lacking. There are better Italian restaurants in the area.

Our group of seven arrived at this out of the way gem without a reservation on a Saturday evening. Although we were initially told that there were no tables available, the management and staff went out of their way to set up a table on the outdoor patio for us (I hope no one had to wait for their later reservation). We were served wonderful Italian fare with great enthusiasm. No detail was missed. Would heartily recommend and would definitely return although next time, I would be sure to get a reservation.

Central, great vibe. Very nice authentic Italian food. Not your basic menu and everything was good! Service excellent!

Excellent Roman cuisine, typical dishes expertly cooked with excellent products. A special thanks to Titian, for the service dedicated to us.

We were so excited to come here before our show. We had reservations and the staff was super attentive. Our appetizer was cold on the inside. it was supposed to be melted cheese but but didn't melt all the way through. My pasta needed more sauce and more flavor. The gnocchi was good. the lamb was yummy too. The desserts were excellent. It's not worth the price or the atmosphere. We wanted something more special then this. I'm surprised the are sill in business.

We would highly recommend 54 Mint! This was our second time back, not just because the food was wonderful (it was!), but also because of the wonderful service (thank you, Adriano!) and great atmosphere. We felt like we back in Rome. Definitely have the Bufala e Broccoletti, Torta Rustic or Suppli to start. Enjoy the Bucatini all'Amatriciana and finish with the Tiramisu. 54 Mint has definitely become our go to restaurant in SOMA!

Truly outstanding Italian restaurant located in the basement of historic Mint Plaza in San Francisco. The ambiance, food, and servers were bona fide Italian, and my palette was jumping with joy. We started with an array of appetizers to share among the party of ten, including Roman style veal saltimbocca, tomales bay buffalo mozzarella with charred broccolini, tomato and basil rice croquettes with molten smoked mozzarella, warm octopus with fingerling potatoes, and local mixed greens. My main dish was spaghetti alla carbonara, homemade with organic eggs, guanciale, black pepper, and pecorino. Probably the best I’ve ever had. I also tasted the grilled Colorado lamb chops cooked with roasted lemon and oregano potatoes. Excellent as well, although still not as exceptional as my spaghetti. For wine, our waiter / sommelier first recommended the “queen” in their collection, a Nebbiolo Chicco, and it was quite good. After three bottles though, we lost our inhibition and upgraded to the phenomenal “king”, Barolo Broccardo. This one was even better, and the price differential wasn’t too great. Desert kept up the high standard. Mine was the torta al cioccolato with fresh whipped cream. Great service, food, wine, ambiance, authenticity, and experience!

This has become my regular. The staff is all Italian and crazy nice. The food is SO GOOD and the wine and cocktails are off the charts. If you like really good Italian food...run. Don’t walk.

This restaurant is outside the old SF Mint in the Plaza. Be sure to make reservations as it got packed on a Thursday evening. The menu is trendy but very tasty! Service is good; waiters offer suggestions if you have questions.

We came here for our last dinner in the city. My husband was craving fresh pasta. Searched for the best Italian restaurants in the city but everything was booked. I ended up looking at this place because it’s close to our hotel and reviews were good. Well let me tell you it was PHENOMENAL. First of all our waitress was amazing and super helpful. We had the caprese salad with buratta, the cacio e Pepe and the fettuccine with fresh porcini. Everything was fresh, simple and tasty. I already crave another plate! The place looks fancy but please don’t be afraid it’s a must try!!

My spouse and I ate here for the first time to take advantage of their SF Restaurant Week promotion. The location was charming, a plaza next to the Old Mint. Staff were very conscientious about COVID-19 precautions. They asked health questions at check-in, and the tables were well-spaced. Our server, who was fairly new, was efficient, very pleasant, and quite enthusiastic about the restaurant and the food; therefore we were very pleased with his service. We both ordered the same items from the two-course $15.00 lunch menu. It was a super deal considering the quality of the food. The starter was a tasty veal saltimbocca; the sage, prosciutto, and lovely sauce enhanced the flavor of the veal. Our main course was gnocchi al ragu di manzo. The gnocchi were light and delicious. The sauce had a very good portion of meat and was flavorful. There was definitely too much oil on the plate, which didn't detract significantly from our enjoyment of the dish, but less oil would have been beneficial. We gave the benefit of the doubt in assuming it was EVOO. The experience was enjoyable, and we will certainly be returning to 54 Mint.

It’s well located . Good atmosphere At the beginning there were two Italian waiters who were really nice . Once we ordered they never appeared again . The food took ages to arrive and two of the four dishes , which were all pasta, the pasta was not “al dente”, it means it was over cooked ....I complained to a person who was not the same as the one at the beginning, and she said “these things are likely to happen .....when someone eats pasta” I don’t thing so, when the dishes are well taken care of .

Impeccable food and service. Best Octopus we ever tasted, plus their own pasta. Ask for the quieter basement level.

Me and my boyfriend when to this restaurant because recommended by a Friend. The service, the staff and the food where 5*! We seated at bar and the bartender Tania make us feel so welcome and help us with the drink and food choice. Everything was delicious from the food (I had the gnocchi and were the best I've eaten so far!) to the drinks the cocktails (recommended from the bartender so don't know the name, it had a flower on top, so good). Highly recommend if want a great evening out with some great food!

We went with friends on a Friday evening and they wanted to stay close to their St Regis place. It did not disappoint. The rustic interior with exposed brick and high ceilings set a nice tone. It was busy but we got great service. Our waiter had an authentic Italian accent which somehow added to the experience. The mixed drink menu had interesting choices. The el loco reposado tequila drink was a fun surprise and tasty. The bitter sky gin drink was also tasty. The menu is not large but we found lots to order. The smelts appetizer was good but not great. The fresh fava bean salad and pea sprouts appetizer was wonderful. We gorged so much on the appetizers that we didn't focus much on the mains. My main was a hollow pasta called bucatini with a tomato based and pancetta sauce. It was delicious. No deserts for us - we had our fill of good company and appetizers. I'd recommend for a nice night out for a couple or group. It does get a bit loud is the only drawback. They also have a small bar in front if you want to stop in for just drinks.

We were staying at the Hampton Inn down the street. So we went here for Dinner one evening. It was a good choice. Good food and we went with a group of friends and colleagues so we had a good time. Nice place, good food.

Personnel is somewhat rude Food is amazing and the owner is very kind. The barman and other waiters do not treat people kindly. We asked to move to a table with no wind and they denied us because the excuse was that it was reserved. But that table never got occupied

This restaurant was highly recommended by locals as well as online reviews. In all respects, the food is excellent. Prepared well, reasonable amount of time and very good. The atmosphere is typical downtown San Francisco: a bit cramp and tight, but, that's normal. The one negative is the hostess: My group had a reservation. Several of us arrived between 15-20 min ahead of the reservation time. Hostess told each of us separately that there was no reservation found under the name of our colleague who made the reservation. Finally went back to hostess to ask again, this time with the time of the reservation. The hostess, oh yes, we have a reservation under that name at 8:30 (10min from then). Just because I did not specify the time of the reservation, the hostess instead of looking at the list of reservations, simply says "no reservation"? And when she did find the reservation after being given the time, it was like it was my fault that I didn't specify the time originally???

The location was great for staying downtown and entertaining a client. The restaurant took my reservation last minute and the entire experience was like a trip to Italy. From the decor, to the waiter, to the food - it was fabulous. Intimate, somewhat more expensive but overall worth every cent and I would recommend it for a client dinner or romantic evening.

Atmosphere was really good - casual setting. Customer service was excellent. Food was just average. Menu did not carry variety. The fava seemed like it came of out the freezer and had'nt fully thawed. The pasta too was very mediocre. The dessert was good. Perhaps we went there on an off day since there were so many good reviews on yelp.

The wait staff were friendly and accommodating; the food and drink offerings had highs and lows. The bread and olive oil starting off the meal were a case in point: the olive oil was fruity and peppery, full of character, while the bread had no flavor or texture whatsoever. (Surely in San Francisco they can find better?) We ordered a grilled octopus starter (considered a fair test of an eatery's mettle) and it didn't resemble the dish as I know it - maybe it was a different part of the beast? The pasta dishes were fine, the desserts tasty and my choice of wine by the glass excellent.

I met my son for lunch in SF and we to 54 Mint based on a friend's recommendation. It's located in an older building right next to the SF Mint so the atmosphere is very nice. The menu was not huge (a good sign to me) with a good selection. We ended up going with the specials, linguini with ragu and halibut. Both were excellent. The halibut had a nice sear with great caramelization on one side. I had an espresso which was perfect--small cup, less than half full, strong and the sugar cube turned it into dessert. I'd go back just to try some of the other dishes.

I brought my friend here for lunch to celebrate her birthday. She is an excellent cook, married to another excellent Italian cook, so I choose this place carefully. It exceeded expectations and is now one of my favorite "hidden gems".

This is the first restaurant that we have had dessert in the US, the reason being the entree and main were so amazing Food exactly how it should be, simple and full of flavour Atmosphere lovely, service helpful, friendly and warm Highly recommend

Looking for the same food that you are getting on a airplane? Go there. If you ever experienced Italian food before, you will see right away that what they are selling is equivalent to the cheapest food you can buy in grocery store in Italy. The Mozzarella di Buffala is from cow and not from Buffalo. The carbonara pasta which is around $20 has only 30 pieces in your plate. A $35 bottle of wine is equivalent to a $5 bottle you get in any supermarket. One previous reviewers was 100percent right... Avoid... Avoid... Avoid!

A small but very authentic Italian menu. About 180 degrees from any "Italian" chain experience. The food was great, the service was great, and the atmosphere was intimate. I want to go back over and over to try the whole menu.

They have a good selection of tasty appetisers, however the mains were a little bland for my liking. Expensive for what it was.

I researched dozens of restaurants before our one night date in San Francisco. We chose 54 Mint. The service was phenomenal. The food was delicious. The atmosphere was perfect. The price was not bad for San Francisco. Highly recommend. We gave kudos to the manager and chef. They were both extremely appreciative.

Nice ambiance, I sat at the bar as on my own. Octopus starter was really fantastic. Chilli tomato pasta main was good but not great. No oil with my bread but bread itself was very good. Bill was $60 before service. A little steep for what I had but maybe that's just San Francisco and I'm used to London. Maybe a better place for couples as ambiance was really lovely.

Lots of interesting cocktails. One was made with rosewater and was refreshingly light. The food was delicious and the staff go above and beyond. The only down side was all the homeless people out front. The restaurant was loud and I didn't feel safe standing outside to take a call.

I’m gonna get down to the point Service was okay! A bit slow actually Food was mediocre at best and SALTY! Salt salt salt on everything !!! We couldn’t finish our pasta because it was so salty !! Won’t come back! And defiantly wont recommend First meal in San Fran you have disappointed me!

A bit out of sight from the road so you need to look for it. Seated and served promptly. Attentive staff made good suggestions. Good food in nice portions. Nice wine options. The lamb was particularly tasty. A bit small inside. The restrooms could use some sprucing up. Our party was happy with the experience. Nice cocktails.

The 54 Mint is a predominantly Californian restaurant located in the SoMa neighborhood of San Francisco. The menu offers a wide variety of dishes, including meat, fish, vegetable and vegetarian dishes. The restaurant has a modern and refined style, with a welcoming and relaxed atmosphere. The service is attentive and professional. On the menu you can choose some Italian dishes and there is no shortage of excellent wine. A vegetarian can eat well in this place. Better to book. Advised

Worst experience ever. My best friend wanted to celebrate her birthday here - inviting 3 of us us. However she's on a medical restricted diet. Not able to eat but needs nutrients. She wanted us to have a good time and eat - celebrate. I called a week in advance and spoke with Daniel and asked that that we would be celebrating her birthday but she could only have a bowl of hot water to put her dr prescribed powder in it. Daniel called me back (I have the voicemail) and said it would be fine. And then I spoke to him again and he said they would make her a birthday note too. We arrived at the restaurant for her birthday Saturday 11/19 and OMG. The manager on duty said 'no way' they could bring her a bowl of hot water. 'Outside food prohibited' Horrible. We had to leave. Ruined her birthday celebration. We ended up at another place down the street. She got her bowl of hot water. Not a problem. We felt the manager was discriminating against her- so rude too. Terrible and sad. I have nothing positive to say about 54 Mint

We came here with a large group for dinner. The service was excellent. We tried a number of appetizers, a main dish and a few desserts and the food was very good. The restaurant is nicely decorated.

Had dinner with old-time friends from England. This restaurant was chosen because it was close to my hotel. It was a very good choice. It is classic Italian. My friends and I had pasta dishes with red wine. The food was good and the staff friendly.

We did not make reservations, but the manager or owner was very nice and gave us a great table for the evening. Food was excellent and the ambiance fabulous. Waking distance To the intercontinental San Francisco. We had a great time and a unforgettable evening. Staff was very nice and the manager friendly. Love it will recommend it ant time.

This place was crowded on a Monday night, so a reservation is probably a good idea. I knew nothing about the place, but the "calamari in purgatorio" (a semi-spicy sauteed calamari appetizer, NOT deep fried) was definitely worth coming back for. Perfectly flavored. While the gnocchi was "just" good, the ribbon pastas were wonderful. The fettucine vignarola was also memorable. Highly recommend this place

Last minute decision to eat local ! Great ambience, food amazing and staff first class ! Central location . Quirky feel Could not fault .

We happened on this little restaurant across the alley from our hotel as we were headed out to find another restaurant. We were tied and the menu looked interesting so we decided to try it. Wow! Both the quality of the food and the level of service were excellent! We started with an outstanding starter of grilled octopus over a salad of chick peas and tomatoes. The octopus tentacle was tender and sweet and perfectly grilled. Next I had a squid ink pasta in a sauce of egg emulsion, chicory and fish flakes. Sounds odd, but treated rich and delicious and surprisingly delicate. My husband had a perfectly roasted chicken with mustard over potatoes and cauliflower. It was also perfectly prepared and tasty. We paid that with glasses of red wine from Italy that were reasonably priced and excellent. Although we don't usually eat dessert, we order some because there rest of the food was so good. The house made to PDF gelati was very tasty, but the pannacotta with aged balsamic was amazing! Throughout the meal, there level of service was way above most American restaurants. The servers were knowledgeable and attentive yet hardly noticed - removing plates immediately, adding clean plates and flatware as needed and quietly making the meal appear seamless. It was a totally pleasurable eating experience The price was reasonable for this level of cuisine and service, with our full meal without tax or tip just hitting $100 for appetizer, delicious bread, main courses and dessert with excellent wine. It's a restaurant we would revisit without hesitation.

Wonderful menu--small but creative and choice. A rose wine from Northern Italy that you won't find anywhere else in the US.

We were a walk in and they easily accommodated us had a couple of their pasta dishes. Both were very good little on the pricey side for what they offer but well worth eating there. The patio is wonderful.

We went to lunch at this restaurant on a Monday. It was not full and we were very well taken care of by Jose. We ordered the fixed price menu that had an excellent cost-benefit ratio. For twenty-five dollars, we choose an entry (between two options) and a mass (between two options). Everything was delicious.

What a gem we found when visiting San Francisco (thanks Yelpers!). It is tucked behind the old US Mint so it is easy to miss. The fresh pasta was the best, my wife said the best since we visited Italy several years ago. She loved the cacio e pepe. They have a nice outside dining area and since it was a warm day we really enjoyed it. We can't wait to go back.

Saw a few nice reviews about this place so decided to try. Service is very friendly. Good Italian cuisine. A bit overpriced in my opinion, but a nice place!

We came here for our anniversary dinner and were seated early. Our waitress was very helpful and enthusiastic and the place had nice charm. The food was absolutely amazing and pricing wasn't too bad ($250 for two with wine). Amazing experience and great Italian cuisine!

Found the place at Tripadvisor. High ratings and not disapproved. Very good pasta. Waiter was excellent. Wine was expensive

Dinner before the show. Waiter was friendly, attentive however disorganized and forgot some critical details about our order. Appetizers were ok but nothing special. Main course was plainly disappointing. Pork too dry, steak had no sauce and too much tomato sauce everywhere.

I have been there twice, the first time wasn't so great because I ordered the anchovies and they were fried and I didn't care for them. The second time was fantastic. My wife & I sat at the bar and chatted with the bar(wo)man who was very helpful and very good at multi-tasking. We both ate the pasta dish with FRESH porcini mushrooms - absolutely wonderful, also a graet saled and the beer made it a delightful meal. $100 for 2 but a most pleasant experience. I also like they way they add the San Francisco "healthy" tax, only about $2 but it means they offer workers healthcare. I loved the atmosphere too.

Dinner in pairs. Local new places inside outside and downstairs. Friendly Service (we speak Italian) great food not to be in San Francisco but great overall, wide choice of wine by the glass. San Francisco average prices . Very well! Bravo!

70 g portions of pasta and high prices. Then not enough by default two fees were added to the account . One of 10 euros and one of 20 (mandatory). Never happened in 15 days of travel. Good food and kind owners

This great restaurant with welcoming waitstaff, good Italian Wines & fun Mocktails (Dolce Alba & Green Paradise) is so easy before a 7:30pm performance at the Golden Gate Theatre just a 6 min. walk away. Starters: Brussels Sprouts w/lovely, light Basil Pesto and the Grilled Rustic Bread w/Burrata, Pomegranates & Balsamic drizzle are easily shared. Entre's: the Rigatoni Carbonara is incredible, the rare Lamb Chops beautifully prepared and the Swordfish w/greens & root vegetables SO good. NOTE: Honestly, all Entres are easily shared but especially since, sadly, the GG Theatre won't let you bring in food...And Yes, we did find someone on the street to "share it forward" with! (our 2 of 4 Lamb Chops, the extra Parmesan Mashed Potatoes - great comfort food, & the leftover Carbonara pasta).

Excellent Italian restaurant. The setting is beautiful, the staff efficient and very friendly: what more to ask. Good address in San Francisco.

My husband and I enjoyed an intimate dinner in their cellar. We shared a fava bean and watercress salad - they put the pecorino on the side as I am on a gluten, dairy and egg free diet. How wonderful that they were able to accomodate my requests. My lamb cutlets were perfectly pink and my husband's pasta deliciously creamy! They even had a sorbet that I could eat for dessert. I finished my meal with a Fernet Florio - from their extensive Italian wine and spirit list. Our waitress was very knowledgable and helped us select wines for dinner. Highly recommend this restaurant.

Looks cool from outside. Once you get past the smell of ganja wafting from all over the square outside. Good service. Decent drinks though nothing special. Food wasn't special though. Wife had the chicken which was moist but not particularly flavorful--something that seemed to be consistent across a number of dishes we tried. I had the fish special which was probably a little undercooked and the flavors nothing special. Grilled green onions on the plate--seriously? I cut a piece and tried to eat it but it was just too tough. Nothing flavor too. Inedible. Go someplace else. We won't be back.

Ate there on recommendation of hotel manager for a good Italian restaurant near Union Square. While the service was great, the food is just OK. Restaurant was full, both indoor and outside (where we ate), but the menu is limited, especially for those that like a little meat with the meal.

Share everything! 54 Mint consistently serves great dishes in a warm and friendly atmosphere. They are very accommodating about bringing extra plates so you can share everything. On our last visit we shared two appetizers, one pasta and one main course (Oxtail!).

I had the full three courses and two glasses of wine and it was still one of the cheapest meals I had in San Franscisco. Well, at least it was under $100. The saltimbocca was one of the rich and tasty; very meaty, but infused with the sage too. I also loved the dessert: a sort of cherry cheesecake made with ricotta. I can still remember how tangy those cherries were. The wines were all Italian (I think), but well-chosen and the first glass certainly made me want another. The restaurant seems to attract a very broad range of people. It's a comfortable, modern room and the service is very good. I liked the informality - and that I never had to wait for anything.

You don't get to go anywhere in SF without experiencing the ridiculous quantity of homelessness, open drug use and outright mental instability. No difference here. Only three blocks from our hotel so too close for an Uber. OR was it? Not easy to find. Finally found it down a side sidewalk area. Not lots of people around except for the street people. We got there OK but were accosted on our way home. Uber! BUT not the fault of the restaurant. Blame the city and the politicians. Once you get there, it was definitely worth it. Authentic Italian. Menu, waiter, wines....Italian. We had a great gentleman take care of us and even let him pic a wine since we don't know our Italian regions. Asked for something $50-60 and I think he brought us a $48 that was just fine. Had the veal saltimbucco and fried smelt for apps. Both good. Most of us had pastas, all house made. All very good. My son had the steak and left nothing. Adds up kinda quick. We topped $300 quickly with no deserts. Two adults and three teens. But atmosphere was lovely on the main level. Staff was very pleasant and efficient. Highly recommend. And call for an Uber.

This restaurant has a friendly and cool vibe combined with excellence food and service. A solid choice in a city with many options.

Had dinner here on a Saturday night. 54 Mint Cucina Italiana is a popular place for sure with both inside & outside tables. You MUST show your proof of being vaccinated to dine here. We were seated inside. Service was very friendly, efficient & helpful with suggestions & explaining the night's special. We started with the Saltimbocca ... it was okay at best. The veal was pretty tough, the sauce was highlight of the dish. Then we shared a pasta, the buccatoni amatricana ... it was good but different from other amatricianas we've had throughout the world. The highlight of the night was the pesce special -- Salmon. It was delicious (I know because my wife let me have a bite or two). It was served with a delicate tomato sauce and capers & olives. Very tasty & highly recommend. Sadly, I had the bistecca & found it as wanting as the veal in the saltimbocca. It was cooked properly (rare) as ordered but it simply had far too much fat & gristle.

Had a business dinner here and wasn't amazed. Prices are steep - especially for the salads and beginnings and the portions not commensurate with the value. The waiter was very knowledgeable but he literally read us the entire menu so that was not pleasant. Food came quickly. Space is very interesting in an old historic building, but lacks much ambiance and very brightly lit. Wasn't wowed and with all the good Italian Restaurants in the city it was a fine experience, just wouldn't rush back. Wine list was solidly Italian only. I would have like a few California options but that's their message.

Hidden gem in San Francisco. Excellent service and food! Outdoor and indoor seating. Clean venue friendly helpful staff. Higher end prices but worth it.

I went with the full-on Roman-style menu: cacio e pepe, coda all vaccinara, and tiramisu. The cacio e pepe was very cheesy and very peppery, but maybe a bit on the dry side. The oxtail was falling-off-the-bone tender, and very delicious; my one complaint was that it needed some sort of a side with the dish itself. Tiramisu was first rate. Good wines by the glass, and friendly service at the bar. Good value, too!

Great food, drinks and service. I will definitely return! The entire group attending were blown away by this place!

We were staying at the Hampton Inn right next door to the Mint Plaza and we basically stumbled onto 54 Mint. We ate in a very quaint European feeling basement room - has an authentic but homelike quality. My wife and I had a delicious dinner and also quiet conversation and good cocktails. Our waiter (Salvador) gave us suggestions for food and drink. This place is worth finding and walk-able if you are anywhere near the Convention Center

Once you find this lovely gem of a restaurant, you are in for a real treat. The food was excellent, the staff was so warm and friendly and the drinks were perfect. A new favorite place for me!

From the minute you walk in you feel welcome appreciated and as if you just walked into a restaurant in actual Rome. The ambience, atmosphere, decor and food was so authentic even our son who was with us in Rome three years ago was delighted at being here. Adrianna our server (and now friend) could not have been more knowledgeable, helpful, friendly and fun. His recommendations were perfect- his Mama's recipe for Gnocchi was THE BEST I have ever had and I have had a lot of Gnocchi since it is one of my favorite dishes.....I don't know if it was the sauce, the chunks of prosciutto, perfect gnocchi dumplings (not too soft and not too hard, just pillow-perfect and melted in my mouth.) I didn't do it, but wanted to lick the bowl and that is a first! Every waiter and busboy had a smile on his face, the hostess, maitre'd and bartender seemed truly appreciative that we were there. Adrianna even poured two tastings of wines that he recommended so that my husband could choose the one he liked more. As busy as the restaurant was (every table fallen a Wednesday night), Adrianna found the time to chat with us about his home life in Italy and tell us some funny stories. The salads were delicious, desserts great, too, and lest I forget to mention- when we left Adrianna was busy helping another table and my son did not get to say goodbye (of course I hugged him- he is that good) so Adrianna ran outside as we were getting into the car and shook Sandy's hand and gave him a hug! The restaurant has been there for 7 years and must be a best kept secret (that I am so happy to share) because I can't believe all these years we have been coming to SF we have not gone there...I am making my reservation already for the next time we return! Buon Appetito!

They were packed and we had just arrived to SF. Had no reservations. My husband and I sat at the bar and had a great meal! Lamb and steaks were excellent. Huge wine selection! Highly recommend!!!

We were able to get a table without a reservation (just walked in). Fantastic menu (not the standard Italian dishes), excellent service and excellent wine advice. Had a great evening!

Pretty good, authentic Italian pasta dishes. The appetizers were ok, I got the fried smelt and carpaccio. This is a nice choice if you do not want to venture too far from the Moscow’s Center. I may return.

Hosted 8 people for business dinner during a large convention taking place. The location was an easy walk from the Marriott Marquis. The pasta is made fresh at this restaurant and the menu is limited compared to other Italian Restaurants. That limited menu, however, resulted in some of the best prepared, tasting and attention to detail on the presentation. The server was able to accommodate one of my guests with an entre not on the menu which was impressive. I would strongly recommend 54 Mint for both business meal or a date night night!

We came here for dinner before a show at The Warfield in SF. The restaurant is tucked on a side street, and was easy to find. Very busy, lots of activity and people seems to enjoy the menu and the vibe. We had a bit of bad luck. My partner wanted a spanish coffee, no tequila, then he asked for a martini, no gin (tanquaray), then he asked for a chardonay, no chardonay. So he had coffee...then he asked for a dish, and that was not available. So he asked for the special pasta, that came and he did not care for it. I did not either. In any case, he was out of luck 4 times. :( I had the meatballs for appetizers and the chicken served that evening. Very yummy. I am not sure we would go back, my partner has a bad taste for restaurants that don't have what he enjoys. Oh well. I liked it.

The food at 54 mint was delicious but the service was slow, bad and it felt as though they did not care for us at all. We were left with just menus, no drinks for a long time, we then had to ask to order. A while after ordering we were brought some bread, but no butter or oil to have with it. Again we had to get someone's attention. After 45 minutes of being in the restaurant we still had no food. Then our main meals arrived before we our starters! This was rectified slowly and with no care. Throughout the meal the two senior staff stood at the till/entrance giving no attention to their customers, only showing an interest when they came over to collect our money. The service really lets down a charming restaurant with good food.

We ate here on a Wednesday night and were able to be quickly seated at the bar. The place was busy with walk-ins and reservations. It's an authentic Italian restaurant and the menu is in Italian. They make all their pasta in house and it's better than delicious. What's a word for that? Highly recommend the Suppli for an appetizer (these croquettes melt in your mouth). I ordered the Tonnarelli Cacio e Pepe for dinner - it was simple, yet rich. The flavors were memorable and just thinking about it makes me want it again. Yum!

Honestly, we chose this restaurant due to proximity to our hotel, Hampton Inn. I saw the reviews were good, but didn't really read through them. Wow! One of the best meals we've had. Excellent. Our salads were fresh and flavorful, foccacia bread was delicious and our meals (pasta carbonara and gnocchi) were amazing! Great wine selection. I wasn't hungry, but had to try one of their desserts and chose the tiramisu ... it didn't disappoint! Be sure to make reservations. We had 5 pm reservations due to a concert and I heard them tell people who arrived without reservations that they were booked.

travelled over 20 years and this place serves the Best Italian Food right down to the Tiramisu (melts in your mouth)! You will not be disappointed . Cezar - I have to disagree with you and it upsets me that you think the food was salty.

Me and my friend went for dinner, is Italian food, really tasty ! Plus the staff is really welcoming, high recommend

The first table was downstairs under the air conditioner. Downstairs is romantic. The second table was at a window which when the evening turned dark a bright light shined at the diners enough to wear sunglasses - Window shade please. The bar is very large, however, few people there on a Saturday night. Rarely do I not recommend a restaurant; however, this is a pass. Too many great SF restaurants for less than $186 for 2 people and 2 glasses of wine.

I went here for a business dinner and it is some of the best Italian food I’ve had in ages. Our number change and they were accommodating. The server was so knowledgeable about the menu and was willing to explain it to us, especially in the context of the region in Italy where it was from. The wine he recommended was amazing, as were the desserts. Things to get: the buffalo mozzarella, cacio e peppe and the panna cotta.

For the main course, we had carbonara and gnocchi and it was excellent. The desserts were also really delicious (tiramisu and panna cotta)

Went here for the first time as a work dinner with 10 people. Service was attentive but relaxed. Drinks were good. Appetizers were excellent. Mains ranged from decent to amazing. We enjoyed ourselves very much.

Dined at 54 Mint during a short Bay Area stay. Made reservations and hour before we dined at 6:30 and had we not we would not have gotten table. The bread for starters is a great way to begin the meal. Wine selection is extensive. Ordered the TONNARELLi CACiO e PEPE and was full of flavor. The pasta could have been a bit more al dente and would have been a 5 star. The hit for the evening was the BUCATiNi all'AMATRiCiANA. The pancetta was smokey and the flavors were to die for! A must if you are seeking a light san marzono tomatoe dish!! Well done and hostess was so nice on this night!

We had a amazing dinner here with friends to celebrate the birthday of one if the friends. The foods here are fantastic and service is excellent. We ordered the cow stomach and grill octopus for appetizer and a few main dishes including Ravioli, spaghetti, oxtail, and Steak. I specially like their pasta for perfect Al dente cooking. Lovely environment that foster party atmosphere. We had good time here and enjoy the food and fellowship. Parking is a bit tough but the public parking garage on mission is perfect.

Enjoyed the selections provided for the party. The only down side is it was freezing in the restaurant. The food was presented well and the service was good. The antipasti and dessert was served family style but there was a choice of entrees. Nice ambiance.

54 Mint is amazing food, great service and very reasonably priced for San Francisco. During COVID we are really not comfortable with restaurants. 54 Mint makes it easy with curbside pickup and delivery - even lunch today was wonderful. Beautiful sandwiches with generous side salads. How can anyone not love this place?

It was the best choice to spend time with your family, and eat a very high quality of food. Do not miss if you like Italian food and have very good service.

Booked online for 4 people at 8pm. Made a mistake online and only booked for 2 people. Hostess was very rude and wouldn't even try to accommodate 4 people. It was 8 pm and we would have waited 20 minutes but she showed us we only booked for 2 and we are out of luck. Zero customer service.

We are an Asian couple. We noticed the waiter paid way much attention to other white customers, like folding their napkins while they went to restrooms, offering them to first tasting wines even ordered by glasses. We didn’t get any of such extra services. Sucks.

Not sure what it is about this place, but I always enjoy 54 Mint. The drinks are great –esp. Aperol Spritz. The food is always very good to great. Simple preparations with high quality ingredients make for simply delicious entrees. We were all very happy with what we ordered especially the pasta. I had the bucatini amatriciana which was one of the best I’ve had including many many plates of this all throughout Italy. iT was perfectly cooked with nice spice and not oversauced - just perfect. Salads were excellent too and one of our group loved the Porchetta. The staff is really knowledgable and nicce - we had a wonderful Chianti that Ive never seen before - was really good. Only criticism is the mediocre bread – loved everything else.

I really wanted to like this restaurant but they really didn't give me an option...It is a NO- for a food and NO for a service. The waiter ignore us at least for about 20 min before he finally notice us! We felt invisible! That wasn't the worst -I was informed that they don't have vodka to make my drink from the menu. I ordered the most expensive meal on the menu- the lamb chops. First, they served me the economical shoulder chops. These had a fair amount of fat and connective tissue, so they were extremely chewy from too much-unrendered fat. Never in my life, I complained about a restaurant's meal but my patience was gone. So I talked with the manager to try this again- but this time, with some lamb on the bone if it is possible. The second time around the meal consisted of the same ratio- 70% fat, 20% bone, 10% meat. I didn't even touch it.Then they offered me some improvised meal- spaghetti with lamb. Needless to say- horrible! I couldn't deal with the service, the food, the missing ingredient for my cocktail and the excuses for choosing a bad meat and for simply doing a bad cooking. We were just trying to have a romantic dinner. Successfully ruined!

A really pleasant surprise. Authentic and contemporary Roman cuisine in San Francisco SOMA. Special mention to the Amatriciana, one of the best I have eaten in a long time. My two business guests were equally impressed. I will come back when I am next around.

The restaurant is popular and requires a credit card deposit upon reservations for cancellations within 24 hours. I was looking forward to trying the restaurant before a matinee play at the Golden Gate. Unfortunately too many cast had COVID and the play was cancelled within 24 hours of the reservations. The Manager was extremely understanding and waived my cancellation fee. As Broadway season ticket owners I'm looking forward to trying 54 Mint during the next performance.

If you are in San Francisco and want to eat a good Roman dish it is the ideal place! Central, fast service and very good food

We were a walk in and they seated us at the bar which was great because we could watch the bar tender work! The staff were really helpful and friendly and the atmosphere wasgreat too. The food was a little slow but the manager came over to apologise to us which was a nice touch. The food was good quality and portions were big. The manager also helped us book a taxi to get us back to our apartment when we were finished. Overall an ejoyable visit, Thanks

We found this little nice restaurant on tripadvisor and it was really good. Nice place, nice people, authentic italian food, good service. Also, as an italian, I recommend it.

Our family of four thought this was the best meal we had in San Francisco (and we had a lot of great food). Everything we ordered was phenomenal, starting with the suppli and ending with the best tiramisu ever. The wait staff is professional, friendly, and knowledgable.

Perfectly executed truly Italian food. I don't think more compliments are needed. Definitely coming back!

I had dinner here with a friend and we let the server know that we wanted to split 2 entrees. The cacio e Pepe was outstanding! My only complaint was that our entrees were dropped off and set in the middle of the table no additional plates were provided so we had to use our B&B plates. The server did not come back until we were half way through and no additional Parmesan cheese was offered. The deserts were good but I was a little underwhelmed by them. However I would overall recommend and return.

Had brunch before Aladdin on Sunday. The selection was great - breakfast, brunch, lunch and main course available. Service was great and had a delight time. The restaurant has indoor, downstairs and outside seating. Brunch starts at 10:30 on Sunday so ample time to get to the theatre. I felt like I was back in Italy. Even was able to converse Italian with staff. ❤️Truly a welcoming experience. Highly recommend if you want a new place to try. It is across from Hotel Zetta, in between Market St and Mission on Mint. Hope to try again for lunch or dinner.

This high-ceiling eatery just South of Market reminds one of similar restaurants in downtown Manhattan and London's East End. The food is Italian. It seems the Managers and staff are mostly Italian too. The tables are very well spaced, and frankly, 54 Mint looks aesthetically large, but really isn't. I counted around 20 tables only. I had standard Italian fare, a salad, a pasta main course, and a dessert. More ambitious offerings can be had from the kitchen. The short wine list features some very good wines, and wine by the glass is not over-priced for a restaurant like 54 Mint. My Monday night early dinner saw 54 Mint with a full house, and the diners looked and acted as though they were regulars, and the place was indeed one of happy campers. Service is impeccable. Admittedly, the prices are high. Plan on at least $80.00+ per person including wine, tax, tip, and San Francisco's weird "employment tax".

54 Mint made this celebration very special. We reserved the downstairs grotto area and had the place to ourselves, the staff was attentive, everyone was served their food without any mishaps, they kept our drinks filled up, and made sure everyone was well fed and watered. I would HIGHLY recommend this location for a special event. We were 25 people, but there was room for another 6 or so.

This was my second visit to 54 Mint and it was just as wonderful as the first visit. My friends were running the San Francisco Marathon and a delicious pasta dinner was in order for them. I opted for the BiSTECCA ai FERRI (picture added) and it was amazing! It was cooked to perfection and I really didn't need to eat the whole thing but it was too good to pass up. The others ordered the GNOCCHi and it was also amazing. The atmosphere is fantastic and this is a wonderful place for a date or a pre-show dinner. I highly recommend making a reservation. The cocktails are also very good. They have wonderful craft cocktails with a full bar with just about everything you could want. There is very little parking near the restaurant but some public garages near by and if you use Spot Hero, you can get a much better rate than the standard rates.

Absolutely the best Roman style food I have had outside of Rome (and better than most restaurants in Rome!). Octopus (tender), Gnocci (amazing), Panna Cotta, Sardinian red paired perfectly, and a Smokey Amari to finish. Molto Benne!!

San Francisco's culinary offering can be overwhelming, so once in a while it pays to just go exploring for good food armed with failsafe basics: does the place look inviting? Is it crowded? Does the food look tempting? If your answers are yes, you will most likely be in for a treat! This was the case for us when we visited 54 Mint, an italian eatery specializing in Roman food, done to perfection. Vincenzo does a great job jugling limited space with many guests - mostly locals, and ensures they get fed great food and exquisite beverages. Every single dish, from apetizers (vegetable frito misto, think italian tempura; calamari in purgatorio) pasta (aubergine pasta with mozzarella and tomato sauce) or the delicious Saltimbocca Romana, to name a few. Desert was pannacotta with balsamico followed by delicious desert wine rounded off an excellent roman dinner in Frisco!

Restaurant is located close a block with many homeless, but it a great Italian restaurant with a selected dishes. The waiters are giving good advise and are helpful. The tast of the dishes is excellent and is as advised by the waiter.

Loved this place! Food was out of this world! Extensive wine list! Best Panacotta i have tasted in years. The only slight draw back was noise but we went on the night a large wedding party was there so hard to hear over the din. The price was reasonable for San Francisco.

Great appetizer, great food, perfect service. Mille Grazie - we loved it there , 5+ stars ! Friendly Italian staff, crowded though , so you better make your reservations in time. The tiramisu was the golden finale. Pricey but worth it.

Went to eat by myself for dinner and they were able to squeeze me into the bar area. I ordered lamb chops, and they were without question the best lamb chops I've ever had. Solid wine list and the rest of menu looked great as well, took some self-control not to return again! One downside was it was in the 40s and they kept the door open, so the bar area was a little chilly.

The place is attractive in an area that isn’t too great. It is hidden in an alley so that does help. The staff is mostly young people from Italy. Very helpful to use with a baby along. Food was slow and the staff knew it. We got some extra food and free dessert. Perhaps being able to speak Italian helped a little too. I appreciated the chance to speak Italian. I met three young staff (from Milan, Sardegna and Bologna). They were good to us. Some of the dishes were on the salty side. The appetizers were superb especially the fried smelt and the octopus.

Prices are too high compared to the quality of the dishes served, plus the 20% tip imposed was a steal

Outstanding place, hidden a little off the main track. Food was amazing and not the silly American sizes, just perfect. Octopus starter meaty cooked perfectly.

Excellent place (discovered by my love for once) in Downtown, near Market street, run by real, young Italians who know how to do it and show a lot of passion. The dishes are traditional (mainly from the Roman area), cooked with care and with top quality ingredients. We started with an appetizer of ham and figs, and then continued with paccheri alla puttanesca and bucatini all'amatriciana, done as they should (maybe a little too spicy, but okay). For dessert, a blueberry sorbet, very good. Friendly and professional service at the same time. Bill: $112 including 20% tip already included in the final receipt. If you want to eat Italian in San Francisco come here!

First, make a reservation. It's on the smaller side. Then make sure you leave early enough to find it since it's tucked away in the corner of a plaza and may be difficult to find. The food is NOT traditional italian. It's menu offers modern Italian dishes. The chef should watch the salt shaker--quite a few of the dishes that we ordered were over-salted. The waitstaff was very attentive, and the matre d' was very accommodating. I doubt that I would make this a destination if a ever returned to SF. But it was OK this time.

Wow! I would never have found this place without the recommendation from the hotel across the street. It is very unassuming from the outside, but once you step inside it feels like a little slice of Italy. The carbonara was excellent! along with the delicious bucket of bread and olive oil for dipping. My friend had the Pana cotta with a drizzle of aged balsamic vinegar. Delicious! You can’t go wrong here...but obviously the locals have found this place. Was very busy for a Wednesday night, so reservations are a must.

I came here for a private party. The restaurant is beautiful and an excellent area of Union Square. The service here was fantastic - the wait staff went above and beyond to make sure we all had appetizers and full drinks. The food itself was very good - especially loved the flat bread we were served.
Beautiful Restaurant
54 Mint is a truly beautiful restaurant. We tried to go here for lunch one afternoon and after being ignored for a solid 10 minutes so the host could talk to a server, were told that it would be about an hour wait. I found (and still find) this to be pretty unbelievable. We were staying nearby so made a reservation for lunch the following day. When we walked in NO ONE was here. Pretty laughable. Food was good. Service was fine other than our experience with the host from the prior day.
