Enjoyable

Good restaurant with a nice selection of menu items. Appropriate for kids, with a few menu items for even the picky eaters.

Smart Menu with Great Service

By PHILLIP E |

Our server was fantastic. The pace was on point and she was extremely knowledgeable about all of the food and drink options. Our group of 3 considered the tasting menu, but opted for individual orders. We all left extremely satisfied--a scallop special, mussels, squash raviolis, meat/cheese board, brown butter apple napoleon, chocolate cocoa nib cake.

GGGREAT!!

By PittsburghRose |

Wow, oh wow! Four of us went to JSix on a recent business trip to San Diego. We were so intrigued by the menu that we decided to dine "family style". We started with drinks and the chartuerrie board. Our server was extremely knowledgeable, and gave us great recommendations. For our entrees, we selected the cavetelli, the pork chop, chicken and duck. Each dish was better than the last -- everything was cooked to perfection! Sides included horseradish mashed potatoes, braised brussel sprouts, wilted spinach, wild mushroom risotto. I can't wait to go back!

Ask for Jay!

By Laura S. |

Went to this place and Jay took care of us! He was funny and engaging. Got our drinks to us quickly. One of the fastest bartenders I’ve ever seen! We will be back during our summer vacation!

Great

By trecynon |

We stayed at the hotel so had breakfast and dinner. Staff and food were superb. Reasonable portions and reasonably priced. Dinner - we arrived with literally minutes to spare after along and tiring drive from Vegas. The staff were courteous and didn't rush us. Nice touch - we were unsure of the wine and chose blindly. Our server took the trouble to, based on what we wanted, ask other staff members which would be more suitable - then came back with a recommendation cheaper than we chose - which was excellent. It's things like like that - that makes a place special. After nearly three weeks on the road in this part of the world we have much to compare with, and this place comes highly recommended and deserves every one of its 5 stars. Please try it.

Restaurant week

By Jessica Z |

Went here with my husband for restaurant week on a Fri night. The restaurant was pretty empty for 530 pm. For our first course I go the blossom onion which was very good, my husband got the hummus which was average. For dinner we got the pork tenderloin and chicken. My chicken was delicious but I felt the pork tenderloin was a little too salty. Would probably not return here again, too many restaurants in San Diego to try.

Great Conference Food

By Priceal |

The lunch provided during a conference I attended was amazing. They also provided great snack options, healthy foods and drinks.

Flavorful

By WillWork4Trips |

We had breakfast here. The service was friendly and she made suggestions for the dishes we ordered, showing that she was really listening. First, we had the Kale smoothie...it grew on me (no pun intended!). The food was prepared well, tasty, just the right size. Prices (unfortunately) were in line with most of the Gaslamp's restaurants (i.e., not cheap).

Very inviting experience

By Ellen R |

I ate solo for a few days because my hubby was at a convention. For breakfast I chose Jsix, closest and easiest for me as its part of the Solamar Kimpton. Food was very good and fresh. Banana bread to die for, but the best part was the fun reception I received from my server, Jason (J). Really, you can't feel comfortable alone many times, but J was terrific. He's fun and upbeat, and made me feel at home. He made my experience a great one.

Breakfast

Natalie@jsix loved it! Great start to the day.. Homemade banana bread, fruit, juice, tea absolutely Delish!! 😛💕👍🏻

Delectable Cuisine in the Heart of the Gaslamp District

By KoziakProductions |

The restaurant is fairly simple, minimal decor but the food is excellent. Have eaten both breakfast and dinner and not been disappointed.

The people made the visit 💛

By Tarah D |

We were here for our 21st anniversary, everyone made us feel so special. Trevor surprised with us with Prosecco as a celebration, Jay at the bar was poppin bottles and setting the vibe. Shakira was attentive, friendly, and just a ray of sunshine. This was a wonderful celebration and the team made it a must return to spot.

Really nice breakfast but a little loud in the a.m.

By Patricia A |

Went for breakfast after an early a.m. landing. Spouse had chilaquiles, which he liked very much but also enjoyed helping eat my side order of bacon (comes with 4-5 thick and delicious pieces). I had the farmer's market fruit with whipped ricotta (and the delicious bacon). The ricotta tasted house-made, but I didn't have a chance to ask. It was a very nice sized portion and the fruit did taste like it had come from a farmer's market (i.e., very fresh, as you would expect with San Diego's eternal growing season). The couple next to us was having a very interesting business-deal conversation. Don't come here if you want a private, confidential conversation. Do come here if you want a healthy, delicious breakfast and a really good cup of tea. Props to the server--once we got his attention (and the right bill), he brought me an extra cup of tea in a to-go cup.

Natalie was excellent in the service she provided. The food was of a very good quality served quickly. Natalie happy to give advise on the food and the options available

Organic and delicious!

By gajanshe |

Great menu if a little limited but organic and very fresh. The waiter was very helpful with the cheese plate offering what would work together. Pleasant atmosphere with a no rush policy.

Nice restaurant with few options

By Joao Borges |

I stayed at Solamar hotel and had breakfast at this restaurant. The service is good but very slow. The menu has only a few options for breakfast.

One meal is enough to share

By kortkass |

I had the rib eye and it perfect along with the broccoli and au gratin potatoes. I split it with my husband and it was like getting two meals for the price of one with just the right amount of food.

Good food and lovely staff.

By Sylvia R |

We were staying in the Solamar hotel and didn't want to go too far to eat. We didn't regret it. Had an excellent meal and the staff were friendly and courteous. Would recommend it.

Loved Jsix

By Nashville10 |

We had a large dinner party here and were treated wonderfully by everyone we encountered. Not only was the service impeccable, the food was great as well. We all enjoyed the build your own cheese board, and the beet salad was delicious. The duck was melt in your mouth, as well as the swordfish, but the most favorite was the pork chop by far. However, the special dessert was heavenly - coconut passion fruit panna cotta!! If I could only have more of that!! The atmosphere is lively yet relaxing and it was a meal enjoyed by all.

Wonderful dinner!

By S0utherngurl |

Had dinner with a friend, we just ordered appetizers and cocktails. The Moscow mule was very good, and the hummus was delicious! We also had spring rolls and charcuterie, which was very well done. The place was empty the entire time we were there, we were told business is based on Conferences in town, and should get busier in the week. The food is too good to not be busy!

Great food, pricey

By Kristin W |

The food tasted great and the atmosphere was really nice! Loved being able to enjoy the outdoors at the same time. But food was kind of pricey and the menu was very limited. If you like to try something new, this is the place. If you are looking for a standard brunch to fit several types of food choices, this isn't it. The wait staff was very friendly and accommodating.

What a great surprise!

By Ken T |

My wife and I were in San Diego for a unseasonably warm weekend and decided to drop by one of the rooftop bars in the Gaslamp District. We chose J-Six because of a Zagat review. The review said it was a favorite for the 30+ crowd, and that appealed to us. We initially went for drinks, but we saw the menu and decided to try dinner alfresco. Let me start by saying that this is a great rooftop bar, the clientele were mature and upscale, and it had a good vibe. I was a bit apprehensive to do dinner here, because I was afraid the food might be riding on the coattails of a great bar. I could not have been more mistaken. We were so pleasantly surprised at the great food. I had an excellent burger, but my wife's chicken was the star of the meal. The mushroom risotto was done perfectly, and they have a horseradish mashed potato dish that was fantastic. The service was very good, however since were at the bar, there were a few times when I thought the servers were stretched thin by large, after-work parties. Overall, it was a great experience. Hats off to the chef, he serves very flavorful food and has a great menu. I'll try something more daring than a burger next time I'm in town. Thanks for exceeding our expectations and setting the tone for what turned into an awesome evening.

Quiet restaurant, great service, food OK

By Waidesworld |

On a Saturday night, before the Superbowl, we thought it best to get a reservation. However, there was 1-2 other tables and that was it. The plus side, is that your waitstaff are easy to get to you when you need something. I had the 24 hour short rib, prepared like never before. It wasn't fall off the bone as short rib is usually, but seems more like sous vide style, but didn't work fully. The accompanying sweetbreads were delicious though as was the shrimp starter. However, overall, I wouldn't rush back here for a meal. It was good, not great.

Great muffins

By Troy G |

Farm to table fresh. Great for late brunch and meeting with clients. Good service and the food si very fresh.

Small portions

By lor13149 |

As a vegetarian I choose this restaurant for the farm to table aspect. I ordered the raviolo. It was very good, but there were only 5 raviolis on my plate. They were not the large raviolismthat cover the plate, but just the regular sized ones. It wasn't enough. The service was just ok. Our waitress couldn't seem to remember more than one thing at a time. Everyone's meal was just ok.

Delightful, delicious spot

By Maureen615 |

Great food, and up-scale funky environment ...loved the steak and frites, burgers, mussels, .... breakfasts to die for! Very accommodating with our quirky dietary preferences. A real treasure.

Good but pricey

By Shelleya921 |

JSix is attached to the Solamar Hotel. It has very cool decor- it has been remodeled since our last stay 2 years ago. It has the feel of a very chic urban industrial loft with exposed brick and muted colors. The staff is very enthusiastic and friendly! We only had breakfast there- oatmeal with blueberries, honey and flax. Although it is some of the best oatmeal we have ever had (we had it twice during our stay), it was overpriced- at $18 a bowl!!!!!!! We also got a cheese plate in our room from JSix and it was so delicious!

Outstanding Drinks!

By Dawn W |

The bar has a great selection of drinks that go beyond the usual. One favorite is the old fashioned whiskey sour - not the usual whiskey sour (shaken egg white) amazing and not to be missed! Ask for Daniel or Jay!

Organically delicious!

By vstar53 |

Great atmosphere, great service, amazingly delicious food! don't miss this one. If you go on Wed night the bottled wine is half price! The appetizer we had was so tasty and flavorful, it was fried squash blossoms stuffed with risotto!

Lovley food!

By AlexMon |

The food at this restaurant is soooo good! We had tapas with cheese, bread and prosciutto for starter and it was delicious, and there was a lot of food. Then I took risotto for entree and it was the best risotto I ever had, for a really good price. It was lovley. The staff was friendly and we didnt have to wait long for the food to come out.

Had innovative breakfast menu

By Greg A |

The breakfast choices were innovative and very tasty. Service was excellent, quick and friendly. Lunches were a good size, and moderately priced.

Good food and service

By John S |

The burgers were fantastic and the service efficient. Although this was a hotel restaurant it compared with any good one on the street.

Art Show

By MBH52 |

We attended an Art Show on the 4th floor, pool area..it was very nice. Pool was nice, there was a full bar, lots of room to enjoy the artists and their works.

Unbelievable

great service and food!

By Rebecca M |

I had such an awesome experience at Jsix. I was on a short trip in San Diego and decided to try out Jsix. the food was amazing and so was our server. Jake is great!! He definitely knew the menu extremely well and he kept checking our table to make sure we had everything we needed.

What a hidden treasure . . .

By Deb O |

This bar and restaurant is an example of an enterprise that works! Well done JSix team . . . I've recently been a guest at the Solamar Hotel and was delighted to find your establishment directly below. For guests staying at the Solamar, JSix has a happy hour between 5 and 6 each day when you can have a beer or wine on the house simply by showing your room key. I found this to be an excellent way to connect with locals and other guests from around the planet. J will take excellent care of you at the bar and he, Alexis and Lauren will look after you during happy hour or if walking in off the street. The bar has a lovely feel, the ambience is retro. it's friendly, squeaky clean and offers great eats too. Located on 6th ave, it's ideally located for locals and visitors. Very worth the visit.

Fresh taste - great service

By Ellen G |

We enjoyed a fresh and delicious breakfast here. My husband is a chef and declared his Benedict to be the best he's had in a long time!

Great service, great food!

By gopackgoXO |

I was in town for business and ended up having my birthday dinner at Jsix. We reserved their private dining room and enjoyed a delicious dinner. The catering staff was very helpful and the servers at the event were very attentive and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves!

Food and service A+++

My husband and I stayed at the hotel Solamar and chose to breakfast at their street level restaurant, Jsix. Food and service were great. Added plus to our stay at the hotel!

TOTALLY DISCUSTING MANAGEMENT!!!!!!

By Rayhaus547 |

We went with friends and were totally disgusted by Jacob, one of the manager. My wife and her friend ordered the filet with a half lobster for $40. Her friend received a nice half size lobster and the lobster meat was a nice white color. On the other hand my wife received a half lobster the size of a big shrimp and the meat of the lobster was a disgusting dark brown. The waiter saw that and said that he will exchange the lobster. Jacod, the manager came and said he will not exchange because the size of the lobster as well as the color of the meat was "part of nature". We spent over $200 and Jacob is pissing off a customer for $5, the cost to exchange the 1/2 lobster. Jacob, you have no commercial sense and I remind you that your job is to make a customer HAPPY, so they come back. If you do not understand that fundamental element, then go get a job for the IRS, Managers like you are the reason why business get bankrupt. WE WILL NEVER RETURN TO YOUR RESTAURANT AND ALREADY INFORMED MANY FRIENDS ABOUT YOU. By the way, your restaurant was pretty empty when we came, I now understand why.

Hotel Pricing, Convenient

By 265CurtA |

This is similar to many downtown hotels with a restaurant. Overpriced, but know that happens when staying downtown.

Nice breakfast place and great dishes!

By jncd2000 |

The breakfast dishes are, for the most part, standard at this restaurant, but the Chilaquiles was truly unique and quite good! I had that for a business breakfast and thoroughly enjoyed it. The restaurant wasn't crowded, but when it became busier, noise was a slight issue. Otherwise, a great choice!

Great restaurant - two things stand out - Great scotch selection and wonderful steak

By Bill G |

They had a very nice selection of single malts which I always appreciate. Also a great wine selection. I had a ribeye steak for dinner which was outstanding and being from Oklahoma I'm very picky. Steaks must have excellent flavor and be perfectly prepared.

Amazing food!

By Karen B |

Had the salmon. It was absolutely 'melt in your mouth' amazing! The putanesca was exceptional except the calamari was a little rubbery. But the rest of the seafood was perfect. The service was impeccable. Highly recommend this restaurant.

Not the best in the gas lamp

By Boopbabe23 |

We ate here while staying at the Hotel Solamar. The night we went it was closed for a private party so we had to sit at the bar and there was a limited menu with no dessert. We were hotel guests but felt unwelcome in the hotel restaurant. The service was average, they were pre occupied with the private party. The burger was ok but not fantastic and same with the cocktails and the prices were high. I was very disappointed there was no dessert offered. I don't understand why a hotel restaurant books private parties that limit and make hotel guests feel as though we are a burden when it is the hotel restaurant and should cater to guests. All and All I would not frequent this restaurant again. Go to Cafe 21 if you happen to be in the gas lamp district.

Excellent food and amazing service---thank you Natalie

By Rob B |

Upon coming to San Diego I did some walking around to look for a good place to have breakfast and I walked into a restaurant that was virtually empty, of course it was 7am and apparently the night life keeps people from rising early in San Diego :) However, I thought the menu looked interesting and I gave it a try. To my surprise the food was amazing, but the service was even better. Thank you Natalie-you're an amazing server! I'll definitely be back when I return in November for the NAR conference.

low key, local and awesome

By MarkF12360 |

great, slightly funky twist on CA local favorites, as well as excellent bar (and bartender). Dinner menu varied and excellent. Breakfast is great as well.

Come for the brunch, stay for the dinner

By Michael H |

OK, I confess. We only visited Jsix for brunch because we had a coupon. We live in San Diego's back country but we haunt downtown and had seen this interesting place tucked into the corner of a very trendy hotel (same name) near Petco Park so when we had the chance to try it at a bargain we jumped. Oh my gosh, what fun! We started with a signature cocktail (Sunday morning, the devil made me do it). My Liz Lemon and my wife's Azalea bar concoctions were so tasty we each ordered another. No bartender here - truly a mixologist supreme. Their liquor list is the best I have ever seen. There had to be 200 super fine quality liquors of all kinds. I love a great bar. The Sunday brunch that followed showed that the kitchen is every bit as good as the bar at putting something special and tasty on the table. We were so pleased with everything about Jsix that Sunday morning that we, on the spot, made reservations for dinner, even though it would mean a 40 mile round trip. Dinner was just as impressive as brunch. My rib eye was prepared perfectly and my wife's butternut squash ravioli with pomegranate and truffles was not like any other she had had. Great wine list, too. I you are in the Ballpark or Gaslamp Districts this is your place for a truly upscale meal. Worth the walk - or drive, for that matter.

SD Networking Events Business Mixer at Margaritaville

By Roam38235208583 |

Hosted my SD Networking Events Business Mixer upstairs at 5 O'clock Somewhere Bar in the Margaritaville Hotel. The new remodel was amazing , we had a great space for my 60+ attendees. The food was awesome and our server Becky took great care of us. I highly recommend hosting your events there.

Good food; dishonest billing

By houston413 |

Was in a large group that had a nice dinner here. But when the check came, we were billed for many more bottles of wine than were actually ordered, an overcharge of hundreds of dollars. Asked to show us the empty bottles, they produced about half of the number on the bill and claimed the others had "already been recycled". Manager finally made a partial adjustment to the bill but never admitted they had made a mistake or done anything wrong. This is a good place to avoid if you want to be treated fairly.

Rooftop Fun!

By Michele B |

My boyfriend and I had a staycation a few months ago at the Hotel Salomar and had a wonderful time at the rooftop bar. When I went up to the bar to order drinks, I was immediately greeted by a guy named Brian. He asked what we would like and I told him I was in the mood for something fresh and not overpowering. He made me a drink that was pure heaven! He whipped up a concoction called a Pear Flower Lemonade. Ladies (and men) this was AMAZING. After grabbing a drink, we walked over to an area where they have a corn hole game set up. We played a few rounds and then headed over and spent the rest of out evening cuddled up by one the firepits. The atmosphere was very relaxing. Since our staycation, we have gone back many of times to grab a drink before and after the Padre game and to see our new friend Brian. He remembers our names and they types of drinks we like every time we go in. It's the GREAT service that keeps us coming back. CHEERS!

Good Breakfasts

By Whitsellr |

Very spacious area with full breakfast selections, fast attentive staff, Food well presented and well cooked.

Dinner at my hotel

By Stephanie K |

I was in town to participate in a conference and on my last evening there I decided to try the hotel restaurant, Jsix. I've been to the Kimpton George in Washington, DC and quite enjoyed the restaurant there, so I had rather high expectations. I must say that I was not disappointed. From appetizer through dessert I enjoyed every bite, and the service was outstanding. If I was to return to San Diego and was unfortunately unable to get a room at the Kimpton Solamar I would make my way back to the restaurant anyway!

Fun in the Sun!

By Nero A |

This place is super cute! You feel like you’re at the beach in the middle of downtown. The staff was great! Jay was a big standout for our group. He was fast, funny and all his suggestions were great! He suggested the mango berry crush to me and I’m still thinking about that cocktail. Next time we have a birthday event, we will come down and visit here because it was so fun!!

Interesting Cuisine!

By Kieran1515 |

Started with the "crispy calamari salad", followed with a very unique "potato-leek soup" that included smoked mussels. For my entrée, I can highly recommend the "seared sea scallops". Quite delicious.

Great food but very poor service.

By Lisa-Anne F |

Let me start by saying that this was the Friday before Christmas so maybe that is why the service was poor and the place was dead except for a huge office Christmas party group. We sat at the bar (and we were the only ones in the whole place except for that large party). The bartender had NO ONE to wait on at the bar but us. He did give us water and menus when we sat down but then he ignored us for a good long time. When he did finally ask if we wanted to order he appeared aggravated with questions that we asked about the menu items. He never smiled once while dealing with us. He did however have a good suggestion for my meal so I have to give him credit for that. Our meals took FOREVER to come out. We waited probably 45 minutes for our food. There was no bread or anything to tide us over. The bartender never came to let us know why our food was taking so long until he told us after 45 minutes that the food should be out shortly. He was fine but not friendly. I ordered the most amazing kale/cabbage salad and he suggested I get grilled salmon on top. What a mouthwatering dish. I just wish the salad had been twice the size. He made it sound like it was really big but it was not and I really wanted more. Next time I would actually order two of the salads and ask them to combine them on one plate so it would be a more appropriate sized meal salad. This salad though was beyond scrumptious. I ate it as slowly as I could because I didn't want it to be gone. There were so many wonderful textures and tastes in it. I can't even begin to describe it because of all it had in it but it was just amazing. The salmon was grilled perfectly though the size (again) was very small. My friend ordered the chicken and asked to have the fries subbed with broccolini. Her meal came out with two chicken legs with the thighs attached and a HUGE helping of broccolini. The problem is, she had specifically told the bartender she wanted the spinach (which originally came with the dish) and then sub the fries with broccolini. There was no spinach in sight on her plate when it arrived and there had to be at least 12 giant spears of broccolini. She had to call over the bartender and ask where her spinach was. He did apologize for messing up her order and then brought her a HUGE serving of spinach. Since she had so much food and I had very little, she shared her veggies with me and they were delicious. She said the chicken was only okay because she prefers the taste of organic chicken and this wasn't organic. About half way through the meal we lost our bartender/waiter. We just all of a sudden had a female bartender appear. She never mentioned what happened to the other guy. Before we could ask about dessert the check was delivered to us. We were trying to divide it up between us and the female bartender offered to split up the check the way we had ordered. So this was great EXCEPT, on the original check my salad was $11 and the added salmon was $6. When she separated the check she changed my salmon to $10. When I mentioned this she said the $6 was a mistake. I told her that it was there on the original check and I would just pay the original check if there was going to be a difference. She went away and came back and said "I will only charge you $6 this time but for future reference, it will be $10, just so you know". Also, water was really hard to come by. The glass of water given to me at the start of the meal was in a short small glass. No one ever refilled it and then I had to ask the female bartender twice to refill it (she forgot after the first time I asked). I left there a bit parched and still hungry. My friend had so much food she had to get a take home bag for the leftovers. All in all the food was fantastic but boy they need help with their service!

Try the tasting menu!

By Sara Z |

We tried the "Chef's Mercy" tasting menu with wine pairing on a recent weeknight visit. The combination of dishes and the pacing of the meal was impressive. Every dish was delicious, but the lobster tail with cauliflower puree and roasted root vegetables was outstanding - a buttery, soft lobster tail and claw with great flavor. A beer-poached salmon paired with a serrano-infused ale (the same used for the poaching) was unique and tasty. A strawberry pie ended the meal. Give them a try and let the kitchen be creative - the regular menu is excellent, but we really enjoyed giving control to the experts in the kitchen.

Stones concert

By DRHIND |

Enjoyed staff and friendly service !drinks and food a little over priced . Food was very tasty and drinks were excellent

Fresh and so good

By Dawn W |

We enjoyed dinner and drinks at the bar before the Padre game. Donut Peach Salad was so tasty that I can't wait to go back and have it again! Daniel at the bar was terrific and shared some tasty drinks!

Not my type of food

By David T |

We went there for a reception. The food was not my type. I heard from others the steak was amazing, the food that was served for the reception was not. Left hungry. Even if I was able to order off the menu, there wasn't much choice of anything I would eat. Check the menu online before going to make sure they serve the type of food you like.

Outstanding for our group dinner!

By Kurt H |

Wonderful food and the atmosphere was superb for a friendly large business dinner with about 14 people. Lots of elbow room at the table. Food quality great, including seafood and other selections.

Very good!

By Tara E |

My husband and I visited on vacation on a Tuesday night. It wasn’t busy but we were eating at 5:00 which was 8:00 our time so we were starving. The food was very good. I had the scallops and they were delicious! My husband had the steak and he loved it. You could cut it with the butter knife. Would go back great atmosphere too!

Lackluster service; average food; loud

By Stelligena |

The service here ruined the experience a bit for us. One of the wines on the menu was a "Red Blend" and I asked the waitress what the blend was. Her reply: "Since it's a blend, it's a blend of two or more grapes " When I persisted at asking "Yes, but what kind of grapes?" she emphasized "red grapes.." Could not believe anyone working in food service didn't even know there were different kinds of grapes. My dining companion has a dairy allergy and asked about some suggestions or accommodations. When the waitress suggested a few things and we asked, "well, but this usually has dairy in it, does yours not?" she said "well I don't know but I guess you guys know better than me!" It was just very odd. Almost like being waited on by someone who had never dined in a restaurant before. Our entrees were fine. Scallops were cooked just slightly over although the succotash was really great. The swordfish was cooked very nicely and seasoned well but the white beans and fava beans that accompanied it managed to be both bland yet also taste very strongly of thyme. All in all was not a great experience. We stopped here because there were few people inside and we thought it would be quiet (a nice change from the other spots on the block at 8 PM on a Friday) yet it managed to be very loud with the exposed brick, concrete floors, and no fabrics to soften the echo.

Disappointment

By Joe M |

No reservations. Went to rooftop bar/small menu. Busy night downtown for concert making for limited availability. Bar orders only for drinks and food. Service good, food bad, experience bad. For the prices, the food should be substantially better. Hummus was like paste and chicken sandwich was drier than a desert. Second time here with unfortunately similar results. Plan better and skip this for food.

There's a new Sheriff in Town - Food Organic and Local

By Kelly M |

We stopped in at JSix for a later quick bite. We sat at the bar for one drink and the bartender was dressed as a sheriff a hat, had a badge and a toy pistol! I believe it was part of a charitable cause but he was having fun and it was entertaining. We had drinks and then sat. The table area is not that large and they have one big family style table too. I like that you can meet and dine with others. We were not that hungry so I opted for the spicy lamb meatballs–which were so tasty and really just enough to fill me! The side of dill, yogurt and pickles is a nice touch. My fiance enjoyed the baby potato + dungeness crab pancakes! The food was delicious and the service was attentive but not too intrusive. I would have stopped back for a full entree if we had stayed longer. You can also order food at the rooftop pool bar and deck. It is a great area for drinks, apps or relaxing.

Fun and engaging

By Sylvia L |

Damien has been amazing at mixing our drinks and recommending places to visit. I highly recommend visiting the 5 o'clock somewhere bar and having Damien mix up your favorite cocktail.

Good breakfast option

By JohnCcmh |

This place is attached to the Solemar hotel. For breakfast we did the grits and eggs along with chilaquiles. Grits and eggs were good, chilaquiles were great. Service suffered due to one server being tasked with hosting, serving and tending bar for all patrons. Server managed to make it around to all tables and bar, while keeping a positive attitude. Unfortunate staffing was short for the day

Great food and atmosphere.

By eat-p00p |

Had a great time with great food and atmosphere. I really liked the variety of food and the service provided. I would recommended Jsix

Great drinks and ambience!

By Meander36301166054 |

We stayed at the hotel and spent time poolside and for happy hour drinks. Daimen, our server, was fantastic. The Grand Margarita was delicious and so was the key lime pie!

Great service and food

By 2-now3-traveladdicts |

We had dinner one evening and a breakfast another day. Service was excellent and friendly. The food was delicious and the bottle of wine that they recommended was tremendous. While we had a lovely adult meal, our four year old coloured and had a great meal.

Breakfast

By Tara H |

Jsix isn't currently serving dinner, but we did visit them for breakfast after our stay. My breakfast burrito was just okay. My husband had the kielbasa skillet and it looked good!

Great service and a stellar staff

I am a local and my boyfriend and I come to Margaritaville regularly for staycations. (5 times since the spring) I finally a writing this review because of the exceptional service we receive every single time from both Shayla and Damien who work at the rooftop bar. They remembered us by name after the very first visit, are so accommodating and both very hard workers, attentive and polite- rare for young people these days- especially in hospitality. Shayla always makes sure we are taken care of and is sweet and personable and Damien is always on his grind! Always moving! He takes his job seriously and has great energy. Both of them are always one step ahead which is exactly how you should be in the service industry. It’s not an easy job! I’ve also witnessed them both deal with difficult guests with professionalism and grace. They both deserve props for their efforts!

Perfect Margaritas

First visit here and will definitely be back! The bartenders Jay and Brett were awesome! Can’t wait for our next visit sitting pool side with an amazing margarita!

Good food and friendly staff

By TravelmonsterJJ |

Nice restaurant, clean, good food and friendly staff. We were staying in the hotel so came a number of times and were satisfied each time. No dishes "blew me away" but the food was very good in general. The staff were very friendly which made for a great experience.

Trendy, but doesn't live up to the mark

By shetown12 |

We booked for an early business dinner on a Friday, so it wasn't busy, but service got slower and slower as the night went on. I thought the food was mediocre. The squash blossoms, while different, were bland. I can usually eat just about anything, but sent back the cream of corn soup - it was flavorless. Tasting my friends burgers resulted in a more favorable response, but I wasn't in the mood for something that heavy.

Nice atmosphere

By goodchi |

Expensive fare compared to restaurants across the street, Restaurant isn't open all day long but there is food service on the rooftop pool deck 4th floor (unless it is raining) Room service available. Lunch/breakfast menu is limited and unremarkable.

All Natural and Delicious

By Sharon Bell B |

We arrived on a weeknight and there weren't many people dining, which gave us pause. The menu is not extensive, so we began to think is this a sticks and twigs place? Huzzah! The charcuterie plate was fabulous! Generous portions of cheese and cured meats, followed by a delicious steak, accompanied by a nice red wine and great service. Don't let appearances fool you. Highly recommend!

Awesome restaurant

By Michael F |

one of my favorite restaurants in downtown, I like the chefs tasting menu it's a total treat to let someone decide for you. this place is really cool they do everything in house even the sparkling water.

Outstanding breakfast

By Mcaltom |

Had a breakfast meeting, the food was really good. Portions were nice, but not to big where you are stuffing yourself. I had a green chili dish, don't remember the name, but loved it. Great setting for the meeting and good service

Ok

By Karl H |

Attended a dinner cater here. Disappointed. Served a meal I did not order and was told that someone else had the meal that I ordered. ????? you have got to be kidding . Major failure. Not because of the wrong meal, but the absolute failure of the staff to correct the issue. The actual meal was only ok. Not good...ok.

Best Boody Marys EVER ! Fantastic food right down in the Gaslamp district !

By ahdiii |

Best Bloody Marys EVER ! Constitutes a small meal in itself ! Sundays there is a "bottomless Bloody Mary Special" !!! WOW Fantastic food right down in the Gaslamp district ! and real close to the stadium too ! We had a great time having a family birthday there too ! C&H

Slow service, misleading menu

By TCTraveler |

I was disappointed by this restaurant. There wasn't a host when we arrived and there were several miscommunications between the bartender and two servers as to who would be seating us. Once we were finally seated, service was slow. What was most frustrating was the mediocre food and misleading menu. The descriptions are highly embellished or just plain false. For example, the churros on the menu note that they come with cajeta but in actuality it was served with Hershey's syrup. This trend was similar throughout most of our items (generic tortilla chips instead of what was described on the menu with the guacamole, etc). The severs were nice but seemed completely overwhelmed. After returning to our hotel, we had found that they had somehow marked our opentable reservation as a no-show which furthered the disappointment. The only pros were friendly service, nice atmosphere, and that the food was plated well. I do not recommend nor will return.

Great great great!

By Lorenia75 |

Great service, great menu, great location. Chef is very attentive. Bar has everything, wine list is robust. Amazing option for dinner.

Very good 'hotel' restaurant

By kklSeattle |

Surprisingly good 'hotel' restaurant, but Kimpton is known for creating Unique restaurants in each hotel, with usually great results - as is the case here. The menu's not extensive, but has delicious choices (a wonderful tofu entire among them)! This is a wonderful choice if you don't want to go afield to have a meal. And it would be a sure quality bet for any meal, though our group only had dinner.

Very good experience!

By Yessir!! |

Me, wifey, and daughter came her for dinner back in April. Our server, think her name was Michelle, was excellent. She made great recommendations for both cocktails and food. We really loved the cheese plate. My wife's Kale Salad was amazing, I'm not even crazy about salads. I had a really good steak that was very tender and flavorful. I've been to so many "so called" steakhouses that have had nothing on my steak at Jsix. We were really shocked at how good this restaurant was for being located inside of a hotel. I have no luck with restaurants that are in hotels lol. I just left San Diego about a week ago and regret not having the chance to stop by Jsix again for dinner. Great restaurant, I really liked the rustic/industrial decor as well!

Great service.

By eat-p00p |

I loved my experience at Jsix. Jesse came by and made sure that my party was completely satisfied. I would recommend all my friends visiting San Diego to go to Jsix.

Adjacent to the Hotel Solamar.

By Joe A |

A very convenient Restaurant located next to the Hotel Solamar. Good service and Fast. Give them a try.

Team dinner... excellent

By Linda S |

Food was set up nicely and well thought out. Enjoyed the ambiance and was able to relax and mingle with teams.

Great Restaurant!

By mel1mck |

We had a great experience here. The service was prompt, helpful, and very enthusiastic. The food was all very good and we were very pleased. We had an appetizer, entrees, dessert, all of which were served timely as the waiter was truly excellent. I will definitely eat here again when I visit San Diego again!

Nov 2015 Dinner

Drinks were fabulous - tomato and feta salad was one of the best I've had! Service was very personalized and thoughtful. I would definitely visit again

Great food, great service

By Tom F |

On a recent visit to San Diego I had a couple of breakfasts at JSix in the Solomar Hotel. The food was excellent and the service was awesome as well. Thanks to Natalie and the kitchen crew for helping make my stay amazing.

Great Food!!!

By angelginn |

Great food, awesome staff, wonderful environment. I had the scallops and my meal was delish. Thanks for your awesome service @Michelle.

Great dinner!

By jammer |

This was a great find. We purchased a Travelzoo voucher and had a very nice dinner while in San Diego. They welcomed the certificate and the service was exceptional. Our waiter, Jeff, was extremely knowledgeable and very pleasant. The manager checked in on us to make sure we were satisfied. We felt very welcomed and were well taken care of.

Don't miss this place

By C-Note831 |

We were staying at the Omni over Thanksgiving and came across this cool restaurant. We passed on the Broken Yolk to find a better option for breakfast. We were pleasantly surprised to find this place open in Thanksgiving day. The food was delicious. Everything organic and farm to table is the way we prefer to eat. I ordered an omelette and was told they were not able to get any fresh spinach and then proceeded to give me some other greens as options. It was delicious, and so was the coffee. The place has a cool, rustic vibe to it. The staff was extremely friendly and took care of us. We enjoyed the place so much we went back the next day. We may even come back and check out the hotel, which is part of the restaurant. They had a cool little lobby area with a selfie station - complete with mustaches, hats, etc. What a great spot! SD is my hometown, and I am thrilled to come back and find places like this as it allows me to rediscover the city that has been so good to me over the years. Restaurants like this need to be supported. They are a little on the pricey side, but you get what you pay for. Our family was taken care of and we would come back in a heartbeat.

Great food, unpretentious setting

By AxelSwe |

I visited Jsix a sunday night for the last dinner or my vacation in the US. Jsix serves tasty, well presented dishes at reasonable prices in a relaxed setting. Many ingredients are organic and/or locally grown. The atmosphere is warm and not pretentious.

Tropical Restaurant

By SanDiego_is_Paradise |

We had so much fun at this rooftop bar & grill! The sunshine, tropical decor, music, menu and crew all made me feel like I had just stepped into Margaritaville! Of course I chose the Cheeseburger in Paradise, and lucky for me they had a gluten free bun! Our sever Damien made sure our meals were perfect and the bartender Rae made a refreshing original Margarita! I can’t wait to go back to the island!

Great Meeting Spot

By Anne M |

While waiting for other business associates to arrive for dinner the bar is a great waiting and meeting place for conversation. It was a little hard to get the bartenders attention as more arrived though. We were offered an abbreviated menu due to the size of our group but there was something as the main entree for each diner. The room was nice and the service was good.

Great service and lots of fun!

By TrevorDierdorff |

We rented the cabana by the pool and got great service from the bartender, Jay and our server, Shakira. We had cocktails and dinner while celebrating our anniversary. The manager, Trevor even came by to wish us a happy anniversary. Highly recommended.

Good Breakfast

By ribbaz |

This area is also used for happy hour for the attached Kimpton hotel. We had a very nice breakfast at the Jsix; recommend the egg white omelet. Good service, too.

Strange menu

By Kelli D |

The menu was very limited and rather odd. The service was fine but the menu needs to grow. The best part was the dessert, but only three to choose from.

Good Sunday supper deal

By pmaraun |

Our server wasn't exactly up to speed but they made up for it with the food quality and a few nice gestures at the end. The desserts are worth the wait and the rest of the food was reasonably good quality as well.

Hidden Gem

By md619 |

This place has it all. Great food, excellent service & perfect location. Our server, Sabrina, was incredible too. She suggested their hibiscus cocktail which i'd never heard of but it was awesome. She suggested their rooftop pool bar for after dinner drinks and we were not disappointed. Can't wait to go back.

Best food we had in San Diego

By Judith S |

The menu will keep changing as it is a farm to table restaurant. We dined there with our teenage boys. We shared many starters, sides, salads, a charcuterie board etc. A delicious fun meal. The server was fantastic, she gave us many great suggestions.

brilliant

By Jicmae |

We only had breakfast each day. It was fresh, beautifully presented, plenty of constant coffee top ups, comfortable well presented, staff efficient, friendly and extremely helpful. Special mention for Natalie who greeted us each morning and could not have done more for us without being intrusive at all. Would recoomend.

Nice Spot in Gas Lamp District

By TheAntiTourist |

Stopped for dinner on a Sunday night with my wife during a conference and really enjoyed our meal here. They have a special on Sunday nights where you get two apps, two entrees, and a bottle of wine for $80, not bad for this area. We had the butterfish and chicken with risotto, both were very good. This is a nice location too just off the busy and crowded area on 5th Street and an easy walk from the area hotels. One of the better meals we had on our trip.

Comfort food in the heart of San Diego

By Roy_Llorens |

In a city with such a variety of cuisines, it's nice to find a place that still thinks comfort food is the best. Menu may not be very large, but the food will certainly impress you. Best part is the service. Staff is quick and really nice.

Disappointing

By Greg P |

With 15 people on the terrace and maybe another 12 at the pool, it took well over 30 minutes to get 4 drinks. The bartender made our drinks out of order. Three of us ordered top shelf margarita and these were made with Espolón. Not a bad tequila but certainly not top shelf. We were prepared to stay and drink and eat, but this was one and done for us. The margaritas were awful. Hopefully they get some training soon. Awful margaritas at Margaritaville is sad.

Delicious dinner

By n0destination |

Visiting San Diego and staying in the Gaslamp District, there are a lot of options for dining. We randomly chose Jsix because it was close to our hotel. The service was fantastic—our waitress was very attentive and knowledgeable. The restaurant was clean, organized, and the music and lighting was unobtrusive. The food was delicious. We had swordfish steak and a burger; both were prepared perfectly, juicy and flavorful. The shishito pepper side is quite a treat as well. We will definitely return to try other options on future visits.

Delicious drinks and food

By LizCincinnatiOH |

Four of us ate here during a conference, and we were very impressed by the drinks, food, and service. They make their own Jsix whiskey, and the cocktails were delicious. The food was fresh, inventive, and delicious. We were all very impressed and hope to return again soon.

Comfort food in a pleasant setting

By too_few_trips_1 |

I ate at Jsix with a group and the setting worked well. It was a weekend night, but the restaurant was not particularly crowded. We had a long table (that we didn't have to share -- again, it was not particularly crowded). We began with a meat and cheese selection -- all of which was tasty -- and I had a pasta dish as my entree.

Great place for drinks and snacks

By JennD |

This place has amazing craft cocktails and great food options. The staff here is very friendly and personable. I will definitely be back!

Good but Expensive

By Debbie K |

This restaurant attached to the Hotel Solamar serves good breakfast fare but is a bit expensive from my perspective. I visited here while staying at the hotel and went away with mixed conclusions. I had the Blueberry Oatmeal on one occasion and an Egg White Omelet on the other. The latter included spinach and avocado and was accompanied by a melon wedge. They were both rather good. The service was more than competent on both occasions and the atmosphere was nice enough. The problem, as noted, was the cost. For example, the oatmeal was $10, which was a bit pricey, even for the location in central SD. If you are in the area, this is a decent place for breakfast if you don't mind the cost.

Ask for JulieAnna! She’s the best!

By Pamela S |

JulieAnna is one of the absolute best bartenders they have. She’s warm, fast, funny, and somehow remembers everyone’s order even on the busiest nights. Every time I stop by, she makes the whole place feel welcoming. Her energy is just different — she actually cares about giving great service, and it shows. Also… do NOT leave without getting the elote dip. I swear that thing is addictive. Pair it with one of her margaritas and you’re set. If you’re at 5 o’Clock Somewhere Bar, ask for JulieAnna. She’ll take incredible care of you.

Amazing Scallops & Out of This World Dessert

By Panda113 |

Built my meal around dessert...maple ginger cake---6 big pieces of gingerbread and 3 scoops of pumpkin gelato for $8. It was a close to heaven as I've tasted in a long while! Scallops were cooked to perfection AND the chef consented to substituting horseradish mashed potatoes for the standard gnocchi accompaniment. Ditto what I said above about the taste. Liked the thinly sliced apples on the salad, but the salad needs some zing to match the entree and dessert.

Excellent service, friendly atmosphere, good food

By bosredsoxfans |

Right next to Solamar Hotel. We had breakfast there every morning and dinner one night. Steel cut oatmeal with fruit, greek yogurt and berries, homemade muffins that were full of fruit and energy drinks with fruit and veggies.

Great Drinks, Food & Even Better Service.

By kimberly b |

We had the best time soaking up the San Diego sun poolside. The drinks were delicious and the appetizer were on point. The best part was our poolside server Pamela was amazing. She attended to all of our needs. She made sure to check on us frequently and made sure we didn't have any empty glasses. Thanks Pamela I hope your there on our next visit!

Great service with a smile!

By lisacrouse1226 |

Great place for breakfast! The staff was friendly and all our food was extremely good. Highly recommend.

Excellent breakfast and very friendly service

By lwd14 |

We stopped into this very attractive place for breakfast and it was a wonderful experience. Our waiter Derek is very efficient and friendly. We had a good breakfast and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

Nice place to have drinks

By reedo452 |

Was at the Solamar Hotel on business which is adjacent to the property. Stopped by a few times for drinks and appetizers. Friendly bartenders who know how to make a fine Old Fashion. Top- shelf spirtis. Hightly reccommend them.

Great Experience

By Don B |

Andy was extremely cordial. He was very knowledgeable about local beers and wine. A great spot to start your night.

Try the chilaquiles!

By SLOJon |

We only had breakfast from this restaurant but if it's any indication of the quality of their food then we'd eat here for any meal. I had chilaquiles and they were as good as any I've ever had. My wife had an egg white omelette that was outstanding, loaded with avocado and spinach. Both servings were very generous. On a separate occasion I had blueberry pancakes that were outstanding. There was some special ingredient or preparation technique that made them stand out - the best I've had.

Casual and nice option in downtown San Diego

By EcuadorJose |

The place is very cozy, service is good. Food is healthy and good. they have a good offer in the bar, also screen to watch games. Casual ambiance. The Burger is excellent.

Good restaurant

By Davetheaddick |

Restaurants attached to Kimpton Hotels are normally very good however, this was probably the best that we have been to (out of about a dozen or so). We had dinner on the day that we arrived, and breakfast on a couple of mornings. All 3 meals very excellent and the staff were very friendly and helpful. It was a shame that we weren’t staying longer to try more of the menu

Wasn't overwhelmed, but would try again

By Amanda278 |

Mom and I split a burger. It was pretty tasty, but was also pretty expensive. I suppose the prices here may be comparable to those in the area. The service was good. Although I don't give it crazy high reviews, I would go again. But I'd make sure I had plenty of money first! Also, tasty fries! Might go check out some cocktails next time.

Superior Service -

By Michael B |

I needed to attend a Conference at the Solamar Hotel and stoped in for breakfast. In reviewing the menu there was a very nice selection. In speaking with my server, Natalie (Natalie@jsix.com), she was extremely helpful and helped me modify the dish to meet my particular taste and dietary requirements. She was fast, kind, courteous and very personable. The service just made the experience that much better.

A meal from start to finish that was excellent!

By jfite |

What is most interesting is the reviews of Jsix were good, but not nearly representative of the outstanding food. We've traveled many places and come from restaurant backgrounds (Dionne's French Cafe, Chicago); this was an excellent meal. The appetizers and salads (cheese board, kale salad, beet salad) were perfect. The beets (steamed) with a tangy/sweet vinagerette were stunning. The crispy duck with greens, the pork chop (a top horseradish potatoes), the sausage starter (with perfectly seasoned lentils) were equally great, with complex but subtle flavors. The panacotta/passion fruit dessert was outstanding as was the service (thanks Randal Reese). Overall, this was a fantastic restaurant; it seems some folks have forgotten about it. Please consider this destination as priority dining in SD. You won't regret it!

Great Date Night

By LosAngelesCaliNikki |

Used a Travelzoo voucher to visit the restaurant last night and the food, drink and service was all phenomenal! Michelle was very knowledgeable about the menu and attended to each of our requests without hesitation. The poached asparagus appetizer was very unique and one of the best things we've ever had. The scallops were cooked perfectly - I couldn't decide if I liked them or the succotash they were served on better. An extra bonus is that this restaurant is tied to the very sheek Hotel Sylmar, so we wandered in there afterward to enjoy the lobby.

Amazing gem across from PetCo park.

By Tony S |

Found this gem 2 hours before a Padre's game & found it amazing! The "secret" elevator needed to enter added to the positive vibes. Great food, vast drink menu, and views to die for... All wait staff were extremely helpful and friendly. I will return with a larger party next time.

Great Breakfast

By SDHydro |

My wife and I had a wonderful breakfast at Jsix. We were draw by the menu which featured lighter faire, but don't think this means small plates. We couldn't finish our meal. Service was excellent and the food was very, very good.

Great time at Margaritaville - 5 O’Clock rooftop bar!!!

By Genelle T |

Spent the day in San Diego and happened upon the new Margaritaville Hotel and 5 O’Clock rooftop bar! What a great setting to enjoy the beautiful weather and the staff was amazing!! They took care of us! Trevor, the GM there, was so friendly and making sure all our needs were being met! We will be returning for future visits!! Thanks Trevor and staff for making our day extra special!!

breakfast service

By francis m |

We recently stayed at the hotel solamar and took breakfast daily in the restaurant. The restaurant was well appointed and the food excellent and we would particularly like to mention Natalie for her friendly warm and attentive service.

I kept turning over the menu to see if there was some more food on offer.

By mxb_11 |

To say the menu was minimalist would be an understatement. To say that it was unimaginative, over priced ($30 for a Chicken dish) and mis-directed would be a better assessment...just don't do it.

breakfast

By Farahsl |

The food was ok, but the service was super slow. It was not very crowded so that was obviously not the reason.

Best meal inSan Diego!!!!

By fergusjv |

We had a fabulous meal last night. The salad was so interesting, puffed cheese pastry to die for, the squash ravioli the best I have ever had. Wait staff were perfect!!!

Just Do It

By Joski69 |

Bar selection and drinks are above average. Our bartender was very knowledgeable and was able to back it up with a solid craft cocktail. Appetizers were decent too but the highlight for us were the drinks. We would go back and try more of the menu again.

Ok, But Not Great

By Marcia F |

We arrived at 4:45pm and asked if they were open, and they said yes, but after we sat down they said "we really don't open until 5:00". I guess that's why it took a while for our food. We ordered 3 appetizers for dinner. The pork and veal meatballs were pretty good, the brussell sprouts were also pretty good. But the crab artichoke dip was pretty bad. Hardly any flavor and served with tasteless chips. Definitely not your normal tasty, cheesy artichoke dip! We also didn't get our iced tea refilled until the very end. Not really impressed with this pricey meal.

Best pool bar

By Doug P |

My wife and I stopped into the pool bar--should say out to the J Six pool bar: it's on the roof. Kinda cool: there's a elevator straight up there from the street level. We had a terrific bartender who took great care of us. Ask for Brian. Walked from there to the Padres game at Petco. We lost, but hey, we found a great pool bar!

Nice breakfast

By Golden_Ange |

I had a nice breakfast here a couple mornings before a conference. Fresh fruit was great quality. Service was prompt and my waitress Natalie was super nice!

Breakie

By greaseball777 |

Selection not that great, pricey. Broken Yolk Cafe lined up, however a 15-20 minute wait is in order

Private Event

By Christina C |

We all had a fantastic time, and our business event was absolutely a success. Ryan's assistance was key. Having never been to San Diego, I had to do all my research online and through conversations with Ryan. Sight unseen, Ryan was a trusting voice that guided me through my planning. When I arrived, saw the space, and then experienced the food, I was so happy! The staff was attentive and worked with our schedule.

Fried baloney sandwich, yes please!

By Alohaboys4 |

Haven't had a fried baloney sandwich in about 20 years. Tasty sandwich, they use high quality thick baloney. The sandwich works. The service was quick and good.

Great local place for breakfast

By David I |

I eat at JSix for breakfast 1-2 times a week, when I'm in town. (office is a block away). The service is great, the food is always excellent, and that staff is wonderful. Given my status as a "regular" I've gotten to know most of them. Natalie, in particular, takes great care of me. In four years, she's always had a smile and a wonderful attitude, every time. It's also a good place for a business meeting. Unlike many of the places in the area, it's not too loud to have a conversation.

Excellent restaurant in a hotel

By Sankarmukh |

We, a party of three had reservation at 7:30 pm. When we arrived we were seates right away. The service was pleasant and efficient. We had bread service and crudite. They were priced at $3.00 each. We also ordered build your board with burrata and prosciutto. This cost $9.00 and was very good. They were also rather large portions. For mains, we had vegetarian plate for $26.00, scallops for $30.00 and albi dinner for $21.00 though I don't quit recall what that was. The food were very nicely prepared , flavorful. We also had a glass of wine , a beer . We also had chocolate nibs cake which was divine and a cappuccino and tea. I am glad that I found this restaurant and this is not right in the touristy Gaslamp district. I am glad that I found this restaurant though at the beginning I was skeptical of a hotel restaurant. The check for three with tax and tips was $196.00.

Good breakfast

By elyseh |

Small breakfast menu, but everything is really good . The baked basket was delicious. The banna bread is excellent. Servers are very friendly.

Would Not Recommend for Breakfast.

By Bigredmachine |

We only visited Jsix for breakfast, so we may have missed the good experience others had at this restaurant. But as far as breakfast was concerned, the food choices are ridiculously small and food is ridiculously overpriced ($45 for a basic breakfast for two). The food quality was very good, but nothing special as fas a taste was concerned. Others have indicated through their reviews the positive experiences they have had with lunch and dinner here. Unfortunately, after the disappointing breakfast, we will not be back; Average breakfast, just too expensive.

Longstanding Gaslamp District popular dining experience

By napalovers |

It had been years since our last visit to this popular restaurant, which has been renovated since our last stop. The rooms are large with nicely spaced tables. Noise level rather high. Our server was helpful and food enjoyed by the 3 of us including one vegetarian. We shared a fresh beet salad, very colorful with good depth of flavor nicely dressed. The wild mushroom ragu with polenta (vegetarian) was a hit with that great foresty mushroom taste and nicely done (soft polenta) base. My roast chicken (airplane cut I believe) was moist and flavorful and the 1/2 order of cavatelli ordered by my husband was still plenty of food. Good Wine list as well.

Food is Great & Natalie Is The Best

By Beau H |

I go here about 3 days a week bc I live in the neighborhood and enjoy this place so much. It is basically my version of cheers for a breakfast spot. Everyone is super friendly and especially my girl Natalie. She always takes care of me and is the perfect way to start off the day. She calls me by "Mr" and then my last name (even though she knows my first) and is very professional about what she does. Since going there a lot I have recommended this spot to other friends and they get the same treatment from Natalie and the rest of the staff. Whether you are a local or visiting this needs to be your go to spot.

Wonderful, imaginative preparations of fresh items

By tf2073 |

This place was so good the first dinner we had there, we went back a second time 2 days later and had mostly all new selections. Especially noteworthy was the Lemon Humus, Grilled Opah and Duck Breast. A nice selection of wines and wonderful, friendly service.

Relaxing Family Brunch

By Julie H |

We were thrilled to come across Jsix on the last morning of our San Diego vacation. Everyone in our family, including our toddler and 10 yo loved their food. Many local and organic ingredients made brunch savory and satisfying. Best burger I've had in awhile, great service and a comfortable atmosphere.

Delicious, freshest, savory brilliantly plated dishes.

By Charlotte K |

My husband and I were blown away with the best hamburgers we have ever tasted. The hamburgers was a fabulous blend of different types of meats and the flavor enhanced by the best distinct savory sauce. The fresh squash salad and generous cheese & meat platter was the best we have ever had. We were thrilled to taste the award winning Pear & Fig Tart dessert that lived up to all the accolades it received when it won Top Desserts in San Diego recognition. The fresh and savory food and drinks were only part of a wonderful dining experience. The JSix staff are genuinely friendly, attentive and gifted geniuses. Go eat here to enjoy a wonderful meal. Tip:There is street parking available but I recommend you Valet Park at the hotel on 6th and J Street.

Creative with great flexibility to accomodate allergies

By ReggieDunlopCanada |

The service at the bar and by the wait staff were great and very understanding of several food allergies in the group. Food was fresh fare and well prepared. Breakfast smoothies and egg sandwich were excellent.

Loved the place

By Moreno_chicago |

I have been at Jsix over a business dinner. Very cool place. The food and the menu is amazing; articulated and with influences from different cuisines. The location is cool and the ambiance is classy modern. Recommended

Natalie shines and makes your brunch twice as delicious! Tr the chilequiles and top it off with bottomless mimosas or bloody marys. Yummy!

Casual Environment with Great Food

By Laura |

I'll start with the cocktails...I could have blown through the cocktail list in one sitting, as the ones I tried were great. I would have loved to try them all. For dinner, the group ordered a bunch of appetizers including the carrots, lobster mac n cheese and the Shishito peppers. All were great, but the lobster mac n cheese was my favorite. After a long day, the comfort food hit the spot. I had the swordfish for my entree and it was "good." I couldn't give it a great or excellent because it was sort of bland. It just was not seasoned enough for my liking. The staff was great. Our server came by at all the right times to check in with us. Didn't hover and we didn't have to go looking for her.

Great breakfasts, great evening cocktails

By Richard C |

Inviting atmosphere with a nice bar that serves up great drinks. Egg whites with locally sourced spinach was a very health breakfast choice.

Wonderful dinner

By Rebecca W |

Had a wonderful dinner with friends at Jsix. The food was excellent, service was friendly and attentive and the entire evening was delightful. Some of my favorite restaurants are attached to Kimoton hotels, Jsix has been added to the list.

great place SLOOOOOWWWWW service

By AndrewJBell |

We just had simple cereal for breaklfast, ut it took far to long to get served in somewhere that was quiet

Really like that they are focused on organic and local food

By cyosser |

i was really excited to see a restaurant with an emphasis on organic and locally grown foods. I had the kale salad (they do a great job with a difficult green. Not tart like you might expect). I highly recommend the meatballs. They were delicious served with a yogurt and cucumber. I know, sounds a little odd... But you have to try it. Don't hesitate... Do it! I also had the chicken which was very good (but nothing too special). A bit pricey, but I would go again....

Amazing service, great atmosphere!

AMAZING service! Brett was kind, helpful and very quick. He even gave me extra truffle oil for my fries! Highly recommended for breakfast and dinner. Also, if you stay at the Solomar hotel and check your bags you’ll get a free drink coupon. During construction you’ll also get $50 towards your meal!

We came to Margaritaville to celebrate an engagement, and it turned into an unforgettable night — thanks in large part to Thomas, our incredible server. Not only was he kind, attentive, and full of positive energy throughout our meal, but he truly went above and beyond when the bride-to-be accidentally lost her phone. While we were all frantically searching, Thomas took it upon himself to help — and he found it! In the middle of a busy evening, he remained calm, helpful, and genuinely caring. He didn’t just serve our table — he saved the day and gave us a story we’ll never forget. Thank you, Thomas, for your amazing service and for being the kind of person who makes special occasions even more meaningful. You’re a gem, and Margaritaville is lucky to have you!
