Welcoming Pilsen Community Mexican Restaurant with great food and service at reasonable prices. The Taco Dinner comes with just the right portions with tasty choices. If you are spending time in Pilsen, possibly visiting the National Museum of Mexican Art just across the park, this is a place you will be comfortable while enjoying great food. As a hard core strong black coffee drinker I would even suggest you give what they call Mexican coffee a try. It does have a cinnamon flavor and is served sweetened with brown sugar so be ready for a very different experience.

Simple cantina look restaurant , but good authentic tasting food , excellent presentation in fancy crockery. Friendly staff & by the way Rabanitos means Radish . I spoke to one of the owners and he explained that back home their father grew radish and they are 5 brothers so they named the place 5 Rabanitos , very interesting šš

Today, my boyfriend and I went to 5 Rabanitos restaurant and were amazingly surprised by the quality of the service and the good home made tacos! You should try this restaurant if you are visiting Pilsen!

5 Rabanitos (radishes) was a great find. The storefront restaurant had great appetizers (green ceviche was outstanding), terrific drinks (assorted margaritas as well as a tasty mojito, plus many beers and a few wines), and fabulous entrees (the chicken tamal was very good as was the short rib entree). If you donāt want beans and rice as a full dinner, build your own meal with assorted tacos at a flat price each. Wide range of meats available as well as a vegetarian menu. Weāll be back!

A friend suggested this place and we both thought it was fantastic. One of the best Mexican meals ever. It is byob So we brought some beers. The Ceviche was excellent and mt steak main course was excellent . Would go back again for sure.

I went here with a couple friends during lunch. The carnintas were fantastic. My one friend had chicken enchiladas in mole which he devoured. The restaurant filled up right after we got there and service got a little slow. It took awhile to get and pay the bill. I would have given 5 stars if not for that. Simple but cute and clean. Byob. Will definitely back but maybe not on my lunch when time is an issue.

This little corner restaurant in the heart of Pilsen in Chicago is one not to be missed. It sits just a block from the National Museum of Mexican Art. It's small and your conversation may be shared with the people on other side of you but what are social spots for, right? Anyway, the food was so flavorful. I ordered the seafood paella and my friend had the Rib-Eye special. It wasn't about the quantity of food because the flavors of both our dishes were sky-high. Quantity by the way, was so satisfying. I don't drink but did try the Mezcal Margarita (of which she had 2) and it was tasty. One thing I did notice was that we were not greeted with the traditional free chips and salsa but I kind of thought that was okay because we were then so ready to eat our food. Gladys, our server, was very quick and very social. She came back often to refill our drinks and made it a point that we could sit as long as we wanted so we didn't feel rushed....and mind you, this was a Saturday night. The dining area is small so you do feel like you are in one big family dining room but that added to the experience, in my opinion.

We stopped in here for brunch post-workout. The food was so good! I got the chilaquiles verde. So good! That verse sauce was so good I bought some to take home. You will not regret this choice. Also, itās byob so donāt go expecting adult beverages unless you bring your own.

Canāt find a damn thing to complain about. Employees were all just so warm and welcoming on a cold day. Food is so tasty and well prepared. And lots of wonderfully creative Latino soups with fresh soft hot corn tortillas. Great place for a meal āpairedā with the nearby free Museum of Mexican Art!

We loved this place. We saw it on Check Please and it sounded really good. It definitely lived up to the hype. The guacamole was really good. The salsas were spicy but not over powering with the heat. The pibil torta was the best torta I have ever had. This is worth the trip to Pilsen.

We recently stayed in Pilsen, a Mexican neighborhood in Chicago. There are scores of Mexican restaurants to choose from, but 5 Rabanitos (Radishes) is highly rated, so we decided to give it a try. It is also a favorite of our friend, āUncle Vick,ā a Chicago native, and Uncle Vick can't be wrong, can he? The restaurant is relatively small, but it has outdoor seating too. It is brightly painted and inviting. The staff are welcoming and efficient. They have a whole page of vegetarian/vegan options, which is unusual for Mexican places in the area that have a heavy focus on meat dishes. We ordered, and our meals came out within five minutes! My veggie enchiladas were flavorful and filling. Their homemade salsa is spicy and tasty on their homemade chips. If I lived in Chicago, this would be my go-to Mexican place.

The food was great. We had the chicken enchiladas and 3 tacos. We waited 10 to 15 minutes to be seated. It took a long time to get the food. We were brought chips and guacamole, which we did not order and sent back. The food was very good. I would definitely come back.

Went here after a hockey game at the United Center. Everything from the atmosphere to the food shouts Mexico! The mole tacos were different but tasty; they had a distinct chocolate note! Service was quick and friendly. All around a great experience.

Lunch date with my wife. She has insisted on us going as she has been before with friends. I had not. We arrived just before noon and there were plenty of seats. 15 minutes later it was slammed. Our waiter was great - he knew the menu well and when we asked for recommendations he gladly made some suggestions. We decided to go with beef ribs and the Ahogada torta. We also shared a fresh pepino Margarita. Everyting was spectacular - a solid "10". We will be coming back.

I was nervous about taking visitors from Toronto to this restaurant recommended by a work colleague as we had never been there. Wow! everything from the guacamole and ceviche through dinner to desert was fabulous. The service was excellent and the waiter's suggestions were spot on! Our visitors loved the restaurant.

So my Daughter and I are in Pilsen Mural hunting (ig:urbanmuralhunter) and we come across a busy restaurant with 3 nice murals on the side of the building. After photographing the murals we went in to have lunch. We were immediately seated and the menu looked like we just hit the jackpot! We ordered the house guacamole and chips as an app. My Daughter had a steak torta and I had the Puerco in Mole. It almost looked like a scene out of Harry met Sally at Katz deli. OMG!!! Eyes rolling into the back of my head, head shaking back and forth. Everything was AMAZING! Such a chance happening that we went in there but Iām glad we did. Weāll have to bring the family back down for the next visit. 5āļøās all day long!

Ordered several dishes and they were all very good and definitely homemade! Wonderful food and friendly service! Will return!

My wife and I ate lunch here on August 15, 2018. We are Mexican so we know Mexican food. This is it. Our tacos, agua de jamaica, and cafƩ de olla were awesome. Our server, Alfredo, was nice.

My son and I went for lunch and it was really excellent. He was nervous and so had the chicken and potatoes from the children's menu. I gave him a carne asada taco from ny taco dinner. They made it plain (no onions, radishes and cilantro) on the one I gave him. The taco al pasto and the barbecoa were terrific. The guac was tasty and the black beans on the side were terrific. I would definitely go back.

We've been to this restaurant several times before and the food and experience has always been good. This time we went at 5pm on a Saturday. It was packed which we expected. The good thing is that it is a BYOB restaurant. But our food was just bad and that's why the low rating. Steak was too chewy, stringy and tough, enchiladas were cold, appetizers tasteless. Ordered coffee with dessert - that never even came. Service was bad too. Slow service we could deal with because the place was packed and is small. But we repeatedly asked for things, like place settings and glasses, that never came. Multiple requests. If we return, which is questionable, it will not be on a Saturday. I hate to say it, but I think popularity has ruined this one. Need some quality control.

Have not really had this authentic Mexican before. Very rich flavors and at a reasonable cost. As far as you can get from a michelin star restaurant looking at the place itself, smells a little strong, chairs a slightly crooked but the food is awesome. And with byob makes is very affordable.

An exceptional meal! The guacamole was the best ever. Hard to believe?? Try it! Our mains were delicious--shrimp in peanut sauce, chicken in poblano cream sauce, the red mole. We'd go back just for the chicken dish. Pleasant staff, easy parking and food so good we seriously considered going back the next day.

I enjoyed my dinner at 5 Rabanitos. The Veracruz fish was delicious along with the sauce that covered it. The guacamole and salsas were very good as well. I wished there had been more vegetarian options. I do eat fish, but this was the only fish dish on the menu. The restaurant is small and colorful truly reflecting the spirit of Mexico. It's also very close to the National Museum of Mexican Art, about 2 blocks away. If you are in the Pilsen neighborhood this is a wonderful restaurant.

Really enjoyed the food here, very fresh tasting good presentation. The fall down is the terrible margarita, stick to beer I think. Good service, friendly and efficient.

Called in to this neighborhood cantina and we were immediately blown away by the music, conversation, buzz and drama of a crowded and authentic Mexican restaurant offering delicious food and clearly happy customers. Outstanding service and the warmest of welcomes. Although informal, the standard of cooking is exceptionally high. Fresh ingredients and a wonderful guacamole set the scene. Amazing and tasty ceviche and roast pork. Outstanding sauces. Delicious and flavorful food served with panache. No alcohol licence but thatās not a big gripe. Great food in a dynamic community. Wonderful experience!7

We were a group that walk in and we were seated right away. Eight people ate and had a good time. We all enjoyed the wonderful taste that they offered. Prices are great and yes we will be there again. The gusta, si porfavor

Fantastic Mexican cooking in a casual atmosphere. Despite the casual surrounds the food is plated very artistically and the service is top notch. This is not a typical USA style Mexican restaurant, rather more like ones you find in Mexico with a varied menu cooked with love and care to detail. We ate early in the evening around 5 or 6pm but they were queuing out the door. No alcohol but bring your own is encouraged. We chose the shrimp on grilled zucchini and the roasted pork in a Mole. Both were perfect. Shared the Tres Leches after and it was divine! Highly recommend.

$3.50 for chips, cold, and salsa, not good, runny. Limited menu and everything is extra and allacart Margaritas $10.00 tasty but more ice than booze. As the only non Latin in the place we felt uncomfortable. Never again

Amazing food and the service was there to match. Great location. Seating was good. Food was really a step back to my childhood

We stopped for a quick dinner before visiting an art opening at Woman Made Gallery. nearby and based upon the good reviews on TripAdvisor. We were not disappointed. We ordered chicken enchiladas with mole sauce and slow roasted pork also with mole with a side of guacamole. Everything was delicious with just the right amount of heat. We will be back

I was looking up Mexican restaurants in Chicago and I really wanted to try this one. The stuffed jalapeƱos were really good. My main dish was a lamb shank with chilaquiles, it was delicious. I had a mandarin Jarritos to drink which was also very good. The service was great. Restaurant had a good atmosphere. The area the restaurant is in is cool as well. Would definitely eat at this place again.

First time eating at this restaurant and will not be my last. Went there for lunch and had the Sope with carne asada and the al pastor taco, they were both very good. On Thursday's they have fish tacos and I cannot wait to go try them! We also ordered guacamole and chips and again this was also very good. I highly recommend this place if you are in the area.

We were pleased to see local families celebrating birthdays here. A table nearby told us they come every week! I can see why; the food is delicious and the service is very personal. Our party of 8 was accommodated very quickly. There was something for everybody, as we had guests from age 6-46.

We came here on a Tuesday night with 8 friends. Service and cocktails were outstanding. Our enchiladas were just ok, what was amazing was the Tamale. We had a reservation and it is needed. The place was hopping for a Tuesday night!

Pilsen being very popular, we decided to try another restaurant there. We were there on a Sunday early evening and the restaurant got packed with people. Service was very nice and professional. They do serve alcohol now (used to be BYOB). The interior is more on the basic side, but oh man the food makes so up for that. I tried the carnitas, and they were hands down the best in town. Chicken taquitos were good, the ceviche delicious. My husband had carne asada - which was very well made. Will definitely go back!

Stopped by for a Friday afternoon lunch. Service was quick. Tables were spaced apart. Food was good. Shared a Cuban torta and guacamole. Never made it to the tacos. Would go back.

Restaurant in the Mexican district of Chicago, the welcome is friendly in English or Spanish, fast service, the food is quality, the price is right. Good place to eat

Let me start by saying that the dishes this place serves are well presented, colorful and most important very very tasty. The dishes are worth serving in a real fancy restaurant for they are very well presented. The nice thing about 5 rabanitos is that the chef/owner comes from Guerrero, MX and was able to bring the authentic flavors of his home town to Chicago. My wife and I actually saw him sit at a table by himself and I wanted to say hi and commend him on his work but I was too shy to do so. I also did not want to bother him as he was eating. My wife order the chicken Enchilada in mole and it was on point! We never imagined that we would find high quality mole in the Midwest, USA and the best part of it is that the prices will not break your wallet. I can tell you though that I would pay more for that mole dish. The value is out of this world!

Delicious family owned Mexican restaurant. Strawberry margarita is a must have. Shrimp empanadas & elotes appetizer were excellent. Carne asada & Barbaoca tacos were great. Small dining room but packed with guests, great place to dine in.

My children are foodies, and we went here for some amazing food! The breads, the tortas were made with were awesome. I never had a torta served on artisan hard bread, and carnitas with the gravy and this pesto-like sauce sure delivered a kaleidoscope of flavors!

I have to say that food was excellent here. I ordered the chicken enchiladas en mole and the guacamole. The enchiladas were EXCELLENT! They are served with a side of rice and beans. The guacamole was very good too. The salsas that are brought out with the chips are PHENOMENAL! Both of the salsas very tasty. The price is on the steep side for Mexican food but you are not walking in to a regular taco joint.

We enjoyed a yummy lunch at 5 Rabanitos earlier this week. The sandwiches are huge. We tried the Cubano and the Pibil sandwiches. We were not able to eat more than ½ the sandwiches. They were huge and delicious.

I really enjoyed this place. I was recommended 5 rabanitos by a friend of mine. It did not disappoint. I went with my family before a concert. There was a wait, but it was worth it. I felt that the price was really decent. I also LOVED the fact that there were vegan options. The waitstaff was great. The restaurant is casual and welcoming. I will for sure be coming back to enjoy the great tacos!

Had the horchata which was more coconut than cinnamon. but good. The ceviche was disappointing. Tasty, but weāve had better elsewhere (S.K.Y.). My āpot roastā was wonderful. It had a tasty mole like sauce that said lick the plate. The rice and vegetables that accompanied the meat were also delicious. Iāll order this again! Seating inside was very noisy, but we didnāt want to wait 45 minutes for an outdoor table. The outdoor seating looked inviting with the wall mural and the plantings.

A gem outside of the hustle bustle of downtown in the Pilsen neighborhood. Guacamole was uniquely presented and very authentic! Enjoyed every taco we had. Must try the margaritas and michelada!

Enjoyed dinner with two friends on a busy Saturday night...Carne Asada, Chicken Mole, and Goat Adobo...started with perfectly preferred baked plantains. Innovative drinks and fine beer selection... probably wines, too, but didn't look... Near the Pink Line EL, so easily accessible from Loop.

A real find! Had the fried plantains which come with a spicy, cream sauce - out of this world. The ceviche verde was tasty and plentiful, and the enchiladas mole was in a divine sauce. Watch out for large loud office groups though.....

Mid day lunch on a Sunday. BYOB. Restaurant is small and tables are close together, was full at 3pm, but minimal wait. Guacamole and fried plantains were great as appetizers. Chicken enchiladas with mole sauce were great, as was a shredded pork dish (can't remember the name). Only complaint was the carne asada which I thought was tough and pretty tasteless. Desserts were wonderful, especially the pineapple upside down cake. Staff was friendly but they had their hands full. Will definitely return, but may stick to tacos next time.

A small restaurant, whose chef worked for Rick Bayless for a number of years, 5 Rabanitos offers a well thought out menu. The servers are friendly and offer nice explanation of the choices. The atmosphere is casual, with brown wood tables. We started with an order of plantains, and chicken taquitos in a black bean puree with guacamole. Both were excellent. My wife had the house special chicken, a mild honey garlic marinade serving of an breast/wing plus a thigh which was delicious. I had the camarones gartinadose-8 nice sized shrimp served on a roasted zucchini over a poblano cilantro sauce and rice. Yum! Tacos, tortas, tamals, and a variety of soups are also offered, as well as several desserts. We will have to try the other things on the menu as we will definitely come back again.

Don't completely dislike the place. The decor looks rushed. The food is so so. The salsa's are not even spicy which was disappointing. Waiter was excellent!

Very friendly, local Mexican place. Relaxed atmosphere with all local clientele, good service and the food was very flavourful, well presented and good portions.

A wonderful find. The food here competes with much more elite Chicago Mexican restaurants, and stands up. The food is sophisticated yet warm and delicious, its conviviality a charm. Canāt get enough!!!

Super authentic taqueria in a totally cool Mexican neighborhood. Guacamole was fresh, tortillas were super fresh, carnitas & pastor was flavorful. Cucumber Mint Lime drink was great for the summer heat.

5 Rabanitos is a plainly decorated place with excellent Mexican food and a menu that goes beyond the typical. We tried the vegetarian and chicken enchiladas in mole sauce as well as one of the tortas. All were excellent.Service is friendly. One real plus was a mariachi singer with a beautiful voice who went around serenading each table. He really made the dinner a lot more fun.

Wonderful customer service, very friendly atmosphere and wide variety of clientele. Food was very fresh and delicious, would definitely go back.

Saw it on "Check Please" and had lunch here after a Chicago Architecture Foundation walking tour. Large but not intimidating menu with something for everybody. Reasonably priced, great for couples or groups.

I'm not sure this restaurant is for me. I hang with a lot of Mexicans, and they tend to be pretty picky about Mexican food. The standard is high, since Mexicans tend to take their food seriously. And while I'm not Mexican myself, I think some of that pickiness has rubbed off on me. Maybe we caught these guys on a bad day. Of our party of five, I'm the only one with a Food & Beverage background. That makes me picky in my own way, because I have an appreciation of service. But it also gives me insights into the way the bizz really is, and I can empathize when thing go pear-shaped. My friends and I came in with grandparents, hard core Mexicans who just want A) some food and B) some peppers and hot sauce to put on their food. We Latinos tend to defer to our elders and want to cater to them because we want them to be happy (and not to nag us). If they aren't happy, we aren't happy. Restaurant was half empty or more. We got shuttled off to a table right in front of their open kitchen. Not even set up, since the waiters had been doing their roll-ups on it. Strike one for me. Never take clients to a table that's not ready. Never. No matter how fancy or how simple your restaurant is. I stand and wait with the tired grandparents while the waiter removes the silverware caddies and the stack of paper napkins . . . not cool. We order. The grandparents don't speak English well, so it takes a bit of time to coax their orders, but we manage, and pass the orders on to the waiter. It's hot outside, we're thirsty. A few minutes go by and half our glasses are empty. No refills in sight. We have sodas but the grandparents go dry, while the staff messes around on their phones just a few feet away. From my seat, I can see the frosty pitchers of water sitting on the service station, just a few feet away. It seems ironic that I can't get anyone to come over and fill our glasses. Strike two. Normally, I never bother a waiter (other than my own waiter) for ANYTHING. It's super annoying, just so you know. So if you do this, stop. Your waiter is your waiter, as is his/her support personnel. That's who you bother, not the next unsuspecting waiter who happens to stroll down your aisle. That's not your waiter. He has his own tables to worry about. But I broke this cardinal rule out of sheer desperation, to ask another waiter to please rustle up a busboy for me . . . and get my old people some agua. Restaurant fills up. We're patiently waiting for our food. It comes, it's good. Not great. But then, I already explained about how Mexicans can be. The grandparents need peppers, they need more hot sauce. It takes a while, but we get it. And they roasted the peppers, so I gotta give them props for that. But everything took a while. Our waiter wasn't on top of it. When I spilled my orchata, it was another waiter who dashed over to the rescue with a towel and napkins. I could tell she was on point, but some of the others were . . . less so. Again, my main beef was with the service. Poor table maintenance, a lack of attention to detail, efficiency. The food was good, plated well, if not meant for my more 'traditional' Mexican crew. We had an assortment: a couple of tortas, a caldo, a tamal, and a carnitas entree. It might have lacked a "kick," but again, this restaurant's menu might not be built for us. Having said that, I'd give the food another go . . . now that I know what to expect. And an average review from me is pretty nice, really. The service was that unacceptable that I should have rated lower. I have empathy for industry people. But I don't like a poorly trained staff being foisted upon unsuspecting victims. Oh yeah, and the check was wrong. We had it corrected. Strike three.

I am glad that this is not near me in Northern Michigan or I would be sorely tempted to eat here frequently. Reading the menu I wanted to taste everything but settled for something so simple that many offer but seem to have trouble with . . . Carne Asada. Here at 5 Radishes the skirt steak was nicely marinated, perfectly cooked, and served with tasty poblano rajas. The frijoles negros were savory and delicious. Other dishes ordered by my party were inviting, especially the enchiladas de mole (mole negro). Great tastes, good preparations, and honestly good food.

I spent the day in the Pilsen neighborhood and stopped here for lunch. I ordered a smokey pineapple margarita, 2 tacos, and 1 special taco ā barbacoa, vegetable, and shrimp. Total bill was almost $27 without tax. Service was quick and polite. I liked the relaxed atmosphere. I really loved the vegetable and shrimp tacos. The barbacoa was a bit tough to chew and I was left with a wad of dry textures in my mouth (if you know what I mean). I would return to try other tacos because the flavors were great and Rabanitos is one of the best places for tacos in this neighborhood.

So I was in Chicago in August and heard about 5 Rabanitos. I made a run before the airport and so glad I did. As a pozole lover I had to try it and it was amazing. You should really try this place if you love Mexican food, as everything tastes fresh and wonderful.

This Pilsen restaurant has proven to be one of if not the Best true Mexican places in Chicago! Gets crowded during prime times but if you HOA little early you will not be disappointed! Try the pork tenderloin in mole. The mole is a family recipe from the Mom of the owner and is a true taste sensation. The guacamole is fabulous. Tacos are perfect. Enjoy!

The place serves some very good upscaled americanized mexican fusion food. The service is pretty good and helpful. A nice place to take someone out for a meal.

The best part of this visit was the server. She was very accommodating. The food was average at best. There is a long line of customers waiting to get in and I don't get it. Perhaps I did not order the right stuff.

We came here after visiting the National Museum of Mexican Art for a late lunch / early dinner. It is a small restaurant - but good food. I had the fish tacos - which was very good. My husband also enjoyed his pork dish. Note - no alcohol is served.

We went to this place fairly early on a Saturday evening (around 5:00ish) and we were seated right away. It was surprisingly busy for that time - I expected it to be empty until 6 or so. Parking right on the street was easy, however. Service was SUPER speedy, which was exactly what we were looking for. We started with an appetizer of queso dip with warm tortillas. For an entree, I had mole enchiladas (I take any opportunity I can get to have mole! I picked up a taste for it when I was in Mexico years ago). My husband got a dish of beef, beans, and veggies in a broth. For dessert we shared the most divine bread budding! It contained raisins, which I don't like, but even those could not detract from how delicious it was. The margaritas and mojitos were also good. We would definitely go back to this delicious and casual restaurant!

Very friendly place. Not to big of a place. Awesome food and prices are great. No liquor but will be very satisfied.

We stopped in here while strolling through the neighborhood seeing murals. So glad we did! The exterior wasn't that inviting but the interior was very nice! More than that the staff was great as was the food and drinks. The Rabanitos margarita was maybe the best I've ever had! I tried chicken mole for the first time and loved it!! My husband had a torta that was really good too. We'd go back and would definitely recommend.

Frontera Grill quality at food truck prices. Maybe Chicago's best BYOB. Out of the way location in booming Pilsen, but has lines out the door. High quality ingredients, authentic Mexican food, salsas you want to drink. CEVICHE Verde is brilliant. Aguas Frescas are sublime. Cochinita Pibil is the best I ever ate.

This restaurant specializing in Mexican cuisine (Chef Alfonso Sotelo) is a favorite for my son and his wife whose grandparents are from Northern Mexico. We went to this restaurant located within the highly Mexican neighborhood of Pilsen in Chicago and close to the National Museum of Mexican Art (another beautiful spot to visit!). This is a restaurant with simple tables located on the corner of two streets. We took a taxi to the restaurant - It was a cold day with 10 degree temperatures! We had asked for a reservation for our large party and they were ready for us when we arrived. We decided to mix and match the various orders so that we all could get a taste. They do have a significantly large vegetarian menu. We started with the fried plantains, chips and salsa, and a ceviche for appetizers. These were all good and were substantial enough to share among six people. My wife and I opted for the vegetarian choices - She ordered the green vegetables enchilada and I ordered the roasted vegetable huarache. These were both delicious - the enchiladas were covered with a creamy poblano salsa, lime cilantro corn and queso fresco. The huarache had corn masa sandal topped with black beans, queso fresco, sour cream and roasted vegetables. This restaurant also allows patrons to bring their own alcohol - they provide wine glasses and glassware. We had taken two red wines with us and washed down our food with Spanish Rioja wine. The staff is very friendly and the services was quick and efficient. They cleared the tables of finished plates and cutlery and provided a great dining experience. This place is on our list of places to go in Chicago!

Just happened to walk into this restaurant in the Pilsen (Mexican) neighborhood. Excellent choices and delicious food and desserts. Service was a little erratic but the overall ambiance made up for that. Worth exploring the Pilsen area while in Chicago.

A friend's Spanish teacher recommended this restaurant with a totally unassuming storefront--you'd expect it to be serving basic taco truck food. Instead, it has a wide variety of creative, wonderfully flavored dishes (including tacos). I had a marvelous Camarones Gratinados--shrimp on roasted zucchini with poblano-cilantro rice and creamy poblano salsa, and my wife's dish-- a chicken special --was fantastic as well. We opened up with red and green ceviches and didn't have room for desert. The prices are quite reasonable (though not taco truck cheap) and it's BYOB (no corkage fee). As a result, our pre-tip tab was under $50.

We have lunch or dinner here at least twice a month--more if friends are visiting. We love the guacamole to start. Right away you know this place is something special by the way the guacamole is presented. I love the green pozole with chicken soup and Jorge loves the Torta ahogada sandwich which is served in 2 halves of a delicious baguette standing in a beautiful bowl of sauce (available in levels of how spicy you want it). All the sauces are prepared by the chefs there and are very special. I love the variety of the 3 fajitas special on Thursday and the carne asada. With whatever I order I especially appreciate the side of grilled vegetables---so tasty and well-prepared. There are tacos, tamales and other such offerings. The desserts are made in house and are downtown quality. Upscale food at neighborhood prices. Street parking only, but we have never had a problem finding a spot. BYOB, and there is a place to buy beer down the street. Near the National Museum of Mexican Art so it is easy to make a day of it.

I'm mexican and my husband was craving for tacos. The food was very good, we had vegetarian queso fundido and his favourite were the asada and barbacoa tacos with onion and cilantro only. I ate a vegetarian sope it was good, not amazing, just good. The service was a slow, but the food is worth the wait. The manager apologized, the two waiters were new. We recomend this place if you're looking for something very close to traditional mexican food.

This unpretentious, inexpensive, BYOB, taquerĆa is one of the best Mexican restaurants ever. I had the dinner consisting of 3 crispy little tacos, rice, beans, and a dab of guacamole. There is a nice choice of beef, pork, chicken, and even vegetarian fillings. Each of my meat tacos had a distinct taste and all were excellent. One of my companions had a perfect chocolate molle. Portions are not large, so that left room for dessert. We had two small cakes, a tres leches and one featuring pineapple and spices. Both were clearly made in-house, that day, as are the light-in-texture corn tortillas. Delicious! Decor? Well, itās a store-front, but itās cheerful. We enjoyed the Day of the Dead decorations. Be prepared for long lines if you come on a weekend. In case you canāt hack them, there are many other Mexican restaurants nearby. The National Museum of Mexican Art is a block away.

Hungry for authentic Mexican food? Go here! The large single room was filled with a lunch crowd but we were seated immediately. Our waiter was friendly and knowledgeable of all specials on and off the menu. I opted for the Pozole with pork. This hearty soup was delicious, authentic and served in way too large a bowl. Homemade guacamole was delicious. For drinks I had horchata a typical tasty specialty. My friend had Mexican coffee. I mean this place is fantastic and thereās plenty of great eateries in this Pilsen neighborhood,

We had a group of 10 people for 6:30 on a Saturday night. They had our table set and waiting for us. Our waitress Raven was exceptional! This is a BYOB restaurant and she was very accommodating to our guests with wine-offering an opener and glasses. The owner was also very attentive and caring; we'll be back!

We recently did a taco crawl in Pilsen and this was our first stop. Nice dining room - a bit more upscale for the area. Had some chips and salsa while waiting for the others- good salsa. Tacos Al Pastor and Carne Asada. The Al Pastor- really good. One of the guys had the pasole- needed a a bit more of a kick. Nice place

A modest store for an outstanding restaurant. Interior is also modest and casual, but the food exceeded expectations. We've eaten in many Mexican restaurants in the USA as well as in Mexico. I was expecting the usual cheese enchiladas. To my surprise, the server provided regular menus and a special vegetarian menu card. I had the green vegetable enchiladas and my omnivore husband had the pork posole. He said his was delicious and mine definitely was. Prices perhaps slightly higher than your run of the mill Mexican restaurant, or maybe typical of Chicago. Highly recommended!

My mouth waters just thinking about 5 Rabinitos. I try to get to this little charmer every time I'm in Chicago. I've only ever been for lunch, so I can't vouch for the margaritas having never had one, but the food is fantastic. Really good guacamole, tacos, tortas, and more. The service is friendly and efficient. Whoever is in the kitchen knows what they're doing. And the crowd is abundantly happy!

Visited on a weekday in early May between lunch and dinner. Good Covid precautions and not too many people. Helpful waiter and a great atmosphere.ļæ¼ I loved my vegetarian torta and my girlfriend really enjoyed herļæ¼ huarache and tacos. It was too rainy for outdoor dining but they had a beautiful patio dining area beside the building next to a gorgeous mural typical of Pilsen. Afterword we walked a few doors down to the Mexican ice cream place.ļæ¼ Great dining experience. Highly recommend.ļæ¼

Visited the National Museum of Mexican Art first then walked one block north to 5 Rabanitos for lunch. The lunch and dinner menus are the same. He had the taco dinner: 3 tacos w/ choice of fillings plus a spoonful of guac and some rice and refried beans on a large platter and an agua fresca (today's a startling shade of green made of cucumber juice, lime juice, sugar and mint, very refreshing). I had the enchiladas de mole which were four chicken enchiladas in an excellent red mole sauce with a garnish of arugula and cabbage salad. They had a ribbon of crema and queso fresco across the top, very pretty to look at. It was a satisfying meal. I wish we had room for some of the apps which looked delicious as they were being delivered to neighboring tables. Will have to return for a big dinner. It's BYOB. They accept credit cards but not AmEx. There's a separate vegetarian menu. The patrons were a mix of neighborhood Latino folk and Anglos all happily digging in.

The first sign that this would be good was when I ordered jamaica. I asked if it was bottled, but the waiter assured me, proudly, that it was freshly made. Yes, it was delicious! The next sign: no automatic bowl of totopos and salsa plopped in front of us. We were a bit wary because of the prices and the mostly gringo clientele, but the food was authentic - the pibil, which I was assured was cooked in banana leaves, as good as it could be without having the tastier (fattier) pork they serve in Mexico.

Since we live a couple thousand miles away, everyday isn't an option, but I will always come back to this place whenever I'm in the city. Prompt, personable, courteous service, a great menu, and an easygoing atmosphere really do this establishment proud. Loved the ceviche, cochinita pibil, caldo de mariscos, and enchiladas con mole. A lot of the dishes at the other tables looked super-enticing as well. In the Pilsen neighborhood just a block away from the National Museum of Mexican Art (also A+).
Wonderful find in Pilsen (BYOB)
Absolutely excellent! We had a group of 5; the place were slammed from the TV airing, yet they were friendly, accommodating and the food was out of this world. Lorena was our waitress and she was wonderful. The shrimp in plabono sauce and the chicken enchiladas with mole were fantastic and the tres leche cake was amazing! Great meal, great evening! We will be back! Thanks!
