A solid place for a good prime rib!

By Happy_stomach |

This is one of my family’s local favorite restaurant. It’s a surf & turf style place with lots of WWII memorabilia and decoration (great photo op!). The atmosphere is classic and rustic, lots of wood and seems like it has lots of history behind it. Service was excellent. Pleasant, polite, helpful waiters. Food was beyond my expectations, especially for the price. We had the “early flight” special (order before 6 pm) is really a good deal. You get a 8 oz Prime rib with the trimmings + soup/salad + small desert & tea/coffee for 18$. Eight ounces is a bigger steak than I anticipated (should have taken a picture). And the meat was perfectly cooked, juicy and tender. The place is apparently known for its “cream corn” which is basically corn bits in a creamy-like sauce.Nice touch, but simple. The rest of the trimmings were satisfying. Wine prices were reasonable. We ordered by the glass, which was more than enough judging by how much wine each glass contained. Must definitely be more than a “standard drink” This was overall a wonderful experience in all aspects. I believe it's actually a chain in several states, which is good to know. It seems some customers had a "hit & miss" experience. That is most unfortunate. I am happy to have discovered this place and will come back. I do anticipate if I come later in the evening the price tag will be significantly different however. Maybe the rating may fall one star for that reason. Considering they have a several deals (either food or alcohol) depending on the day of the week, it may be worth contacting them to get the most suitable deal for your needs.

Sunday Brunch

By Michael J |

Went to the 94th Aero Squadron for Sunday brunch with a group of friends. The place is very unique and has interesting decor. The food and service were great. The brunch included a wide selection of different foods. My only complaint is that the brunch is very busy and the seating is somewhat cramped so you feel rushed to get in and out .

Super busy but food good and quirky place

By Chimpy28 |

Sunday brunch on holiday weekend - really glad we booked as the wait list was out of the door by some way! Buffet was kept well-stocked and the service was good. Food was tasty, drinks flowed and a reasonable price ($29.95 all you can eat for adults). Quirky and fun atmosphere with the aircraft/WW1 aviation theme too.

Great restaurant with good food, but!

By Rick S |

This is a nice restaurant with a very interesting theme, and the food and service is very good. However, on Mother's Day it was oversold and the crowds were crushing. I would not recommend going again unless they did a better job in pacing the reservations. The crowd and confusion was very unappetizing.

Great Ambiance

By Sue O |

I've been here a number of times. Brunch and dinner. Have never ordered anything that disappointed. Not fond of the complimentary creamed corn they serve...but that's not something I like. Friendly attentive (and funny!) wait staff. The décor and view of the airfield is all very interesting.

RUINED THANKSGIVING DINNER

By QualityTravelBee |

We've been dining at 94th Aero Squadron with our friends every Thanksgiving for the past 5 years. In 2018 it was so crowded, that I was joking about possible lawsuits because of violations during emergency evacuation in case of fire. This time it was so disappointing, that I decided to write about it... We had reservation for party of 5 at 16:00. Our friends were driving from Orange County for 2 hours because of traffic and rain. We waited 1 hour to be seated. People were everywhere! All hallways were filled with people. We were seated at some little patio you could get to through a very crowded bar. 5 adults were seated at a small table suited maximum for 2. My husband is 6.4" so his right elbow was hanging over the edge of the table. Going through crowds of sneezing, talking, drinking people to reach buffet was a challenge. Food was mediocre. Half of desserts were frozen. Refill was too slow. I asked several times to find a more suitable table for 5, but in vein. There were plenty vacant tables and I couldn't understand why people were kept waiting! One table for 8 had only 2 people! And no they were not waiting for the rest of their party! 2 people occupied table for 8 while 5 of us were cramped at a tiny table for 2! Our favorite booth was vacant, but not cleaned for a longest time and every time passing by I was getting more upset! Manager Rachel was telling people that all this mess is because of the rain! I told her, that they took too many reservations and oversold restaurant. We are not coming back! Lack of proper management is obvious! Observing 4 women running around yelling "Fisher party of 5", "Douglas party of 2" was surreal! They were yelling each name a dozen times for 3-5 minutes instead of calling them or giving them a buzzer! It is 2019 for Pete sake, not 1950s! I spent more time trying to switch our table, than to enjoy a Thanksgiving dinner with friends! I had one plate of food and a few little pieces of frozen cakes....My husband and I spent $169 for 2! It was a horrible Thanksgiving! We were embarrassed in front of our friends! DO NOT DINE DURING HOLIDAYS!

Better Than I Remebered!!!

Years ago, when I worked nearby, I visited 94th Aero many times. It has been a number of years. For a recent, small birthday celebration, we re-visited. What a joy! Great service - great food - good prices - and great "early bird" options. We will be back soon.

very good luch buffet

By Veronica W |

Always good value

Didn’t hear number of times it’s always consistently good service good food is always very tasty. It’s a very good value especially with the passport card.

Appear to be local favorite

By Don H |

Our first visit to this location. Same decor and theme as restaurant at Van Nuys, CA. airport French farmhouse motif. It was fairly busy at lunch with many guests choosing the lunch buffet. It appeared that they were short of staff as our server was covering several tables which resulted in slow service. My wife enjoyed her Asian Salad, however my Talapia Fish Sandwich was just average If you want to watch aircraft take off and land at nearby Montgomery field while dining this is the place to be.

LOVE THIS PLACE!

By Isabel G |

I just love this place ! The restaurant is so cute and we can see the airplanes / helicopters landing . The whole theme of the restaurant is about aviation . The food is so amazing ! I love the peppercorn steak and I simply is addicted to the complimentary cream corn ! 5 stars all the way !!

Nice Venue, Mediocre Food and Service

By djphaneuf |

We arrived with a reservation and were seated at a table that the sun was hitting pretty hard so asked to move to shade. Server could not accommodate and told us to talk to hostess who eventually moved us. I had a sirloin stake that was okay but nothing special along with a baked potato. Son had bacon wrapped scallops that were too salty and wife had an okay salad but her soda did not taste right. It was good to get out to eat but all in all a less than average experience for above average price.

The worst ever - was good many years ago

By 7bogey7 |

Worst buffet in history. Went there on Sunday for a family birthday brunch. $60 per person and that was a discount!! After 9:30 AM it is $65 per person. PROS: Lots of food CONS: HORRIBLE top sirloin – couldn’t even cut through it with the knives provided. Extremely tough. The lamb was way overcooked and very tough. The scrambled eggs were cold and overcooked. The eggs benedict were cold and the muffin under it was so tough you couldn’t cut through it. The crab legs were a joke – impossible to get the meat out of them. The breakfast potatoes were very cold. I could go on and on – it was a disaster.

A beautifully themed restaurant

By Dave G |

The decor is outstanding and the food was delicious. The only downside was that it was a little pricey. However, you do get enough food so there should be leftovers. The entrees came with soup or salad, bread, and house made creamed corn, which is quite tasty. Not sure why you would need an appetizer with all that food before your main meal. I had a cheeseburger and it was really good. I highly recommend it. We came here for dinner around 6pm during the week, so there were plenty of tables available, even though we had made a reservation. Will definitely return.

An aviation enthusiasts dream, a foodies delight.

By Worrals |

94th Aero Squadron is the perfect place for an aviation enthusiast to enjoy a drink or meal. The building is delightfully decorated in aviation artifacts and models. The bathrooms broadcast Winston Churchill's speeches. Outdoors there is a seating area that overlooks the Montgomery Field runways where you can watch planes and helicopters take off and land without being disturbed by their noise. There is an old WW2 ambulance and jeep and rabbits hopping around. The sunday brunch is legendary and it might be wise to book a table if there is a large group of you. The food is plentiful and there is something for every palette. I am not a huge breakfast fan but I thoroughly enjoyed the wide selection of food, from build your own omelet, fruit, meats, breads, sweet cakes. I have enjoyed a lunch time meal, an evening dinner and a breakfast brunch here and although somewhat limited for a vegetarian I have enjoyed my visits.

Geat food and a bit of history

We were taken here by friends while visiting San Diego. Loved all the attention to detail both in and outside. The service and food were very good. Would highly recommend.

Ruined Thanksgiving Dinner

By cetecea |

WARNING: Do NOT dine here for Christmas or any holiday. My mother was visiting from out of state to celebrate Thanksgiving with my husband & me. We decided to try the 94th for the first time on Thanksgiving Day. The best thing we had was the coffee. Edouardo was a great server. The buffet was cramped and poorly situated. The line for the buffet was out the door of the restaurant. Guests, some of them with walkers and wheelchairs. The plates were huge and heavy. This was TERRIBLE for guests. The dark meat turkey was tasteless with big pieces of fat. The turkey breast was flavorless. The creamed corn was like water. The butternut squash soup was sugary sweet, NOT sweet from the actual squash. The mixed vegetables were unseasoned and plain. The mussels were the consistency and taste of rubber. The yams were over-cooked. The carrot cake tasted like sawdust. This was not an inexpensive meal. Do NOT ruin your Christmas or holiday. Eat somewhere else.

Very disappointing dish and experience

By Seth S |

I’m not the type to leave negative reviews on places but unfortunately this place was disappointing in all aspects. The staff seemed distracted and inattentive, the food was actually bad, and the view of the airfield is lacking. I ordered the jambalaya and the chicken was so tough, I’ve never had a poorly cooked chicken like that before, I should’ve asked to return the dish. Also for the price I paid, it does not equate to the dish or experience. Very disappointing. I had high hopes coming in to try it but I don’t think I would come back or recommend it.

Went for restaurant week

By Cora W |

Their food was amazing! The bacon wrapped scallops, crab stuffed shrimp, and tiramisu were exquisite. I can't say enough good about them. Will definitely go back.

My "go to" for special occasions

By Gilmost |

San Diego is a crowded playing field for even the best of restaurants. When your children ask you "where does mom really like to eat" you know they're looking for an easy gift card at a grocery store...laughs. This isn't THAT kind of place (read: franchise) 94th Aero Squadron in San Diego is special in every way: 1) in it's unique vibe by the airfield adjacent to the property (1940's music, fighter plane replicas, Churchill's classic speech snippet's interspersed throughout hallways) 2) Wonderful menu (the filet kabobs are simply wonderful, and best value day in day out) 3) Dependably great service. Great happy hour menu, drinks, live music on Thursday afternoons outside on the patio... So many great special memories there through the years! Sunday champagne brunches there are legendary... Highly recommended!

Can't believe I've never been

By marlaher |

Came for the brunch buffet. Really cute decor, but poorly designed as there was a constant traffic jam of people trying to get the the buffet tables. Great variety and great food though! Enjoyed the omelette station. Good service.

Great Atmosphere is Eclipsed by the Great Food and Service

By prevere |

The decor is that of a farm house mid World War One. The food is top rate broiler fare - steaks, prime rib, pork chops, chicken dishes, and fish. Salads and soups are good, too. This restaurant is well known for its buffets. But, one can order from a fine menu for either lunch or dinner. Prices are reasonable for good quality meats, etc. service is not only excellent, but very cordial and friendly. The manager visits every table to assure that customers are satisfied. There are some specials (ask) and Happy Hour snacks while you enjoy your favorite drinks. This is a real find - and it is fun, too.

Wonderful

By Diana P |

We came to San Diego from Colorado mainly to come here for my birthday dinner and were not disappointed. The atmosphere was wonderful and the food was great. french onion soup and prime rib followed by cheesecake how can you go wrong

Interesting theme restaurant

By gzau |

94th Aero Squadron is an interesting restaurant. The entire location is decorated in WWII theme. They have airplanes, canons, etc all over the inside and outside of the place. They even have Winston Churchill speaking in the mens room! The food is OK with a prime rib/steak focus. It overlooks the local airfield which just fits the theme perfectly. Go if you are looking for something unusual to try

Dinner with friends during Restaurant Week was a great experience! We had an excellent waiter. We had made reservations ahead of time and were seated when we arrived. The whole meal was delicious from the bacon wrapped jumbo sea scallops, the Crab stuffed shrimp entree was amazing. 5 large shrimp with stuffing wrapped in bacon cooked to perfection with a delicate cream sauce! I chose steamed veggies, my husband had the garlic mashed potatoes!! For dessert I had a chocolate Lava Cake with vanilla ice cream, chocolate sauce and whipped cream! He had the Creme Brûlée and it was wonderful too! We have had other excellent meals here at other times!

Awesome

By 894waynew |

The short ribs were out of this world they fell apart with a fork, the prime rib melted in your mouth and the coconut shrimp and the sauce were excellent. We would highly recommend this place.

Get Together with Friends

By Joe W |

The food was great and the old war decorations add to the atmosphere. You can watch the small planes at Montgomery field land as it is adjacent. Wait staff is attentive. Easy to get to and plenty of free parking.

For a chain restaurant, this one is a winner.

By Susie900 |

The atmosphere at this French Country Farmhouse is so reminiscent of WWI, there's a feeling of nostalgia when you enter. It's covered with trophies and miniatures and pictures and memorabilia from our Great War, complete with a location on the lip of the Montgomery Field airstrip. The wooden booths allow for privacy, and in the background plays music from a hundred years ago. The bar has an old-world ambience and cozy atmosphere, and the fireplace in the lobby lends a warmth on cool winter days. Now for the food. You'll find some old favorites like a Cobb Salad and a French Dip Sandwich with no surprises - they're just like you would expect them to taste. In fact, the food here is so authentic to original recipes that you think you're in a time warp, and the service is impeccable. Try it for lunch first, or a Sunday buffet. You'll have lots of taste-tempting choices and a good time. There are frequently office meeting celebrations and large tables of celebrating guests, so join them and have fun.

Food Wasn't Bad Service Not So

By Michael F |

My wife ordered the steak kabob, I ordered the linguine with scallops and shrimp....the steak was not tender or very tasty, however the linguine was quite good. We ordered the butter lettuce salad with blue cheese and a very nice light dressing, it was very good as well. The issue was the service provided by our waiter; he forgot to place our order for our appetizer which came well after the salad and then forgot to bring us coffee after we requested after dinner. The restaurant looks very nice and is a good place to dine.....just stay away from the steak kabob.

Transformer - 94th turns into a club

By Mrs_Ware229 |

After the restaurant closes it turns into a club. We were in town and visited on a 1st Friday. It is a nice spot! The DJ that night was good. Down things-- the bartenders are slow!!!; the women's restroom is filthy (we got there before the restaurant closed and stayed til they closed the club and it was NEVER CLEANED OR RESTOCKED) and they dont do a good job cleaning up the tables. However it is an overall a good spot to chill with friends.

Great Brunch for the Price

By JJSpersrud |

We have been here for previous brunches. It is a great alternative to Humphrey's if you are looking to save some money on brunch. Go early since there is not a lot of room for the brunch line and it gets crowded.

Overpriced and Terrible service!

By Shannon S |

I went to a friend's bday dinner and the servers were nice, but the service was bad. It took 20-30 minutes to get a drink, then our food didn't arrive for almost 2 hours after ordering. I had to have them box up my food, because I needed to leave. Will never go here again. For the prices, I would have expected better food and service!

NEED IMPROVEMENT

By CHAUSTER B |

when we approach the bar lounge, a nasty odor occur like a dead rat. the place is dark inside on a sunny day. it is so hot and sticky sitting outside. the skinny crab leg was not worth eating them. the quality of food was not good. there was not enough selection for fruits, salad, bread, seafood. and hot dishes. GRILL VEGGIES WITH NOT FLAVOR, the place is old and since it so dark, you cannot see if something is dirty or food spilled.after sitting for 20 minutes, we could not handle the sticky ,hot weather and low quality of food. we left. service was great. plenty of parking. it located in an industrial place. dont' expect a beautiful scene.

Daughter's High School Graduation Party

By Cliff P |

I had my daughter's high school graduation party here last night. Let me say that from beginning to end this experience was above and beyond my expectations. Our event coordinator, Rachel Lewis, was a pleasure to work with. She was very prompt in all her responses and I deferred to her experience in selecting how much food I should purchase for the amount of people that would be there. She was really great in helping me make all the decisions I needed to make this event special. The manager, Tony, was there overseeing us the night of the party and he too was very accommodating. He kept tabs on us to make sure everything we needed was covered. I especially appreciate the fact that he kept me up to date so my open bar tab didn't go over my budget! The bartender, Nate, and all of the help staff were great. Dj Dale was the best I've heard in a long time and I will undoubtedly use him again. Last but not least, I was completely shocked at how good the food was. I was NOT expecting that at all. I have to mention the quesadillas and meatballs. How do you make a quesadilla taste that good? It's just cheese and a tortilla! My guests have been texting me all day about how good the food and service was. I usually do reviews for one of two reasons: My experience was especially bad, or it was especially good. Thanks to all at 94th Aero Squadron for making my daughter's high school grad party especially good!!

Great food, good atmosphere

By turkeynuts11 |

Great dining option for a steak dinner or happy hour after work. Drink specials every weekday. One of the best Sunday champagne brunch locations in San Diego.

A Return Visit

By Robert L |

My colleagues and I went to the 94th for Brunch on Sunday. The place was jammed! There was a huge selection and variety of foods. If you are looking to "load up" on seafood, or meats (beef, turkey, pork) or veggies, this is the place to come. They also have a very large dessert area, with all types of cakes and pies, including a chocolate fountain. While I can say we didn't leave hungry, there is a tendency to "over do things." The cost was around $33. It was good but not good enough to rate a very good or excellent rating.

My wife and I enjoyed the Sunday brunch

By joetripad |

We got there early at 9am. Their assortment of food was large, and we enjoyed the foods that we tried. The service arrangement seemed to work fine and everybody seemed to be enjoying themselves. We did. It always amazes me to read these reviews and see one person like me gives it a high rating and the reviewer before says such terrible things about it. He was there on mother's day, so they might have been overwhelmed by a large holiday crowd. We highly recommend the Sunday brunch, and it might help to come early like we did.

One Of The Best

By JEFFREY G |

Before the Chargers first game( Sunday brunch) my wife and I ate hear and this place is awesome! The price is around $30.00 but worth every penny. There is a craving station, omelette station, fajitas station, pasta station, crepes station and a host of other entrees, deserts and breads. The setting is that of a old WWII airport / field with outdoor sitting overlooking a small local operating airfield which is really nice and rather romantic ... thus the name 94th Aero Squadron. The service was simply outstanding, it was friendly and attentive not over bearing, champagne never got empty. You really need to check this place out !!!

Delightful Brunch

By Bruce C |

From the moment we arrived and throughout our meal everyone was very attentive. Susan was our server and never skipped a beat. The Brunch is plentiful with a wide variety of dishes to choose from. Delicious! Well worth a visit. P.S. Come before 10 and save a bit. Will definitely return.

All U Can Eat😊

Good food, wonderful service from the waitress, whom we learned was originally from PA. (my birthplace)

Great for Large Groups

By Colin Archibald |

We decided to celebrate our daughter's 50th Birthday at 94th Aero Squadron. The service was outstanding even thought there was nine of us for dinner. The food was delicious and this place has a great atmosphere. The way the restaurant is broken up it cuts down on the noise and you can have a conversation without yelling. The restaurant was very busy, but the way it is divided up it seemed like there were few people there.

Delicious dinner, wonderful service and nice view

By SD-Traveler-CA |

My husband and I have been wanting to try this restaurant for quite awhile, we saw it on Restaurant Week so we figured it would be a good time to try it. They have a Prix Fixe menu for Restaurant Week $30 per person. For an appetizer I had the wedge salad with fresh bacon crumbles, tomatoes and blue cheese dressing my husband had the bacon wrapped scallops (2), for dinner he had the bacon wrapped shrimp with mashed potatoes and I had the sirloin steak with Bearnaise sauce on the side and veggies (squash, green beans and broccoli), for dessert we ordered the Creme Brule with fresh berries and I had fresh strawberries with Grand Marnier - all to die for. Excellent service, the waiter was very helpful with the menu and attentive, I also liked that the manager came by to see if we were enjoying our meal. Make reservations if you can as it does get packed. We will definitely go back.

Sunday Brunch in a group of 20

By PJHSanDiego |

We have an annual brunch here every year. Got immediate seating as we entered. Started with champagne. Ordered Orange juice and coffee on the side. Also water. Headed to the carving station for an end cut of prime rib with horseradish. Next to the Omelet station for a Spanish Omelet made to order. Got some cheese at the cheese station, then grabbed some teriyaki salmon. After that got an eclair, carrot cake, cheese cake, and some ice cream with chocolate. Bypassed the crape station this year. All was good, although the end cut was a little tough to cut. Server was attentive. Some areas have a view, and they have displays in front of the entrance.

Airport food done right.

By Stacheck |

This restaurant is located inside a replica of a World War I farm house, overlooking Montgomery Field airport, packed full of military memorabilia. The interior is cozy and romantic, complete with fireplace, plants and airplane wings. There are even headphones to listen to the FAA control tower. I especially like the outdoor tables with there own memorabilia on warm nights. The service is attentive and the food is made to order from a menu that includes my favorite, prime rib. You will return for the ambiance and food, it's that good.

Great spot for business lunch

By db7477 |

This is a great spot for a business lunch in the Kearney Mesa area. It's conveniently located on Balboa with adequate parking. The decor is eclectically engaging and welcomes one to 1917 France and the Great War... the buffet is good but I'm going to try the menu next time. The beer cheese soup was recommended by a friend.

Great outdoor ambiance!

By travelingCAgal |

So happy to see this place re-open recently in late March after the second CA shutdown ended 1/25/21. They have the most beautiful sunny outdoor patio & ambiance whether you are just in the mood for a beer or feel like having lunch or dinner. We will be back!

Step back in time and eat well!

By Mac Brazel |

The last of what used to be a chain, this place is a showcase of what it felt like to be in a WWI officers club. With the great service and traditional meal choices it doesn’t disappoint. The steak was delicious and perfectly cooked. I just lived the signature cream corn served table side. This is a great place to watch airplanes land and takeoff at Montgomery Field. Worth the drive from downtown. Highly Recommended.

Business Dinner

By Ben |

Made a dinner reservation for 8 and arrived on time, but did have a short wait (5-10 minutes) on a Thursday evening. Nice ambiance and interesting decor to look at while you wait though. The wait didn't really bother us at all. Service was fairly quick throughout the meal. We ordered cocktails, multiple appetizers, entrees, and desserts. The staff was very pleasant and professional throughout the meal. After we left, the server actually called me because we'd left an additional tip on the receipt because we didn't realize the tip was built into the initial price. We appreciated the phone call, especially coming directly from the server. The food was great. I had the blackened swordfish and it was delicious. We had an assortment of desserts and they all tasted great as well. I would definitely return here to eat and check out some of the outside decorations. It was pouring down rain when we went so we weren't able to check it all out.

Sunday brunch

By moniqueramirez27 |

The Sunday brunch is absolutely amazing. There's such a variety of foods to try. The eggs Benedict was great. The teriyaki salmon melted in my mouth. The desserts are endless. I recommend pacing yourself to try a little of everything. The bottomless mimosas was a true selling point for the price. Well worth the $30 per person. Believe me I had my share of champagne that day. I highly recommend this restaurant for the food and rich history throughout.

Has potential

By slcolfer |

My wife and I had our anniversary dinner at the restaurant. This was the first time either of us had been there. The decor and theme is wonderful and the restaurant overlooks the local regional airport. However, the restaurant has seen better days. It was almost empty on a Saturday night and the wait staff was not very enthusiastic. The dinner was mediocre and our steak was lackluster and overlooked. If the owner invests in upgrading the restaurant I think it would be amazing.

Perfect group venue

By sfdann |

We are so glad we selected this venue for our private party of 26. The service was awesome - friendly and precise. The food was spectacular - the freshest vegetables and perfectly-cooked steaks and entrees and the desserts were fantastic - a great selection at an awesome price in a perfect private room. Beautiful restaurant in a convenient location.

Magnificent Dining

By TheAnvil |

This is a restaurant based on a WW I French chalet theme. Quite nice - Eddie Rickenbacker's hat in the ring is even etched on the mirror in the bar. The food here is exquisite, as is the service. It's tucked away near office parks and Montgomery Field. Definitely worth considering for an evening of good food - with far better prices than you'll find downtown.

First time

By Mike W |

Overall all I have a very nice experience. I came in from out of town and had dinner and cocktails. I was told by security that I needed a collared shirt, but spoke to management and was told, it wasn't a problem and to enjoy my evening. Dinner was very good with a very nice table setting and decor. The waitstaff was very friendly. On the clubside, the DJ and drinks were awesome. Will definitely visit again.

SUNDAY BRUNCH FAIL

By Shamita H |

Went with my family to experience the Sunday brunch and was very disappointed at $80 a head and they only offered a Denny’s quality menu, sirloin steak, could have been prime rib, sho crab could’ve been king crab, sushi was only one kind of roll, powdered eggs, store bought biscuits and gravy. Only things decent were all the store bought selections: ice cream, yogurt, pastries, fruit, salad bar and ramen bar. Over all food AND staff was more of a mediocre experience for $80 a head. SHAME ON THEM!!! The value needs to be knocked down to $35 a head and that only because they offered as much as they did. You would get better service and quality of food at Fleming’s or Ruth Chris for $80 a head!! Don’t spend your hard earned money on this garbage!!!!

Used to be our favorite

By Carol Z |

What a disappointment! We took my mother for a special farewell dinner. My husband and I have a meal there almost every time we come into San Diego, and for years it’s been top-notch in the quality of food, service and ambience. We loved it. However this time I must say that the best part of the meal was the prime rib, and it was delicious. However everything else about the dinner was substandard compared to what it has been in the past. The salads were meager and the service was slow, although the place was practically empty. Perhaps my biggest disappointment was when my dessert which was their famous upside down apple pie, and my mother’s dessert, which was cream Brulé, were awful. My pie tasted like it was leftovers from the weekend. It was mushy and tasteless. My mother’s cream Brulé, I hardly have words to describe it, was tasteless and the consistency of pudding. That night she had an upset stomach and pretty much felt like the desert was on the turn. I will give serious thought to returning to the 94th Aero squadron for a special dinner again I am so sorry to say.

Use to be much better. I believe new ownership is losing its quality and service.

By Neillibin |

Did not know that they no longer honor the passport card. Clearly not a good value at full price. We had a Ny Steak, prime rib, sizzling sirloin and chicken. It took forever to get our soups and salads, service was horrible. My onion soup was Luke warm. My prime rib was very fatty and my potato was very small. If the service would have been better maybe we’d look past the quality of food but it was full price, super sloppy service and marginal food.

The Best Brunch in Town!

By Steve E |

They use quality ingredients, have the most variety, a great atmosphere and all 15 in our party were extremely satisfied!

Happy Hour

By SD-Traveler@SD-CA |

It's kind of an odd place with WWII theme, but they have nice Happy Hour buffet, happy hour drinks are okay, the bartender gal on Friday's is great! She's a great mixologist. They have nice outdoor seating with fire pits, the backdrop is the small airport. It's usually quiet outside, but other times a little noisy, depends on aircraft. Mon-Thur are best days to go, or early evening on Friday's. They have singles events later in the evening.

Not their finest hour

By MarabousMommy |

This restaurant has been my special occasion favorite since moving to San Diego in the early 1990s. It is always my choice for birthday and Christmas celebrations, hands down. Sadly, this is probably a thing of the past. It is apparent that 94th has gone through a change in both management and philosophy. Gone are the smartly dressed wait staff armed with crumb brushes, replaced by servers in shorts and yoga pants. Don’t misunderstand me - that attire is fine in a casual place. But 94th is special. The decor and gardens are designed to evoke World War I. Churchill’s voice could be heard giving his iconic “Finest Hour” speech In the restrooms (otherwise known as the latrines). The bathroom speakers were silent tonight, though the management tells me that the Churchill speech is still run. The beautiful decor and gardens are just the same, but everything else seems to have changed. The wait staff used to offer creamed corn as a “compliment from the chef.” Creamed corn is still on the menu, but it is watery and mostly lacking it’s chief ingredient. The container of beer cheese soup was not full enough to reach halfway up the bowl of the spoon. The chicken marsala was cold and gelatinous. I learned to love crème brûlée at 94th. Tonight it was burned to bitterness. That is hard to do for a woman who likes bacon so crisp it resembles charcoal. It takes a dish that is seriously over cooked for me to reject it – which I did tonight. Having let our server know about the problems, one might have expected a table side visit from the manager. No. Had I not stopped at the hostess stand to inquire about a change in management over the past few years I would never have spoken to him. He was apologetic as far as it goes, but clearly does not understand either the importance of, or the sheer lack of cohesion to, the theme of the restaurant. And seems to feel that most of the problems lie with the wait staff, with whom we had absolutely no problems. Bottom line – if you are seeking a restaurant with lovely decor and gardens and don’t mind paying high prices for mediocre food stop in to 94th Aero Squadron. If you are looking for ambience AND a memorable meal go elsewhere.

This restaurant crashed and burned

By Neillibin |

We’ve eaten at this restaurant dozens of times over the years. Made a 7 o’clock dinner reservation and when I showed up there was nobody working at the front desk. We waited there for at least 10 minutes before a waiter came over and asked us if we wanted to be seated, I told them I had a reservation. I noticed the restaurant was 90% empty. The bar appeared to be closed . The place looked more like it was going out of business than open for business. We proceeded to be seated at our table we ordered some drinks and then we ordered dinner. I’ve had the same prime rib, beef there many of times and this was Bar none the worst meal I’ve ever eaten there. I ordered my prime rib, medium rare, it came well done, I had a baked potato with butter and chives, and it was so heavy in butter the potato was soaked. I also had a cup of the onion soup, which was average but much better than the rest of the meal. This place appears to be going out of business not moving forward. This was a real disappointment because this was a restaurant that I used to really like to go to.

VERY POOR all the way around.

By Jake D |

I took my children on 03/07/18. Ordered appetizers ( prime rib ) looked like they sent the cutoffs from any other steaks they sold...really poor. Hamburgers for the kids..asked for medium..hamburgers were crunchy (kids would not eat them. I ordered a hamburger $19. came with the oldest piece of lettuce and was cooked well done...i mean..how hard is it to cook a hamburger....I never got my drink to wash it down...had to ask two servers for cream for my coffee ( even though the first server said he would bring it..Just a very poor dining experience.

Nice Place for a special Occasion

By Colin Archibald |

Came to celebrate our friend's birthday. She has a love for Escargot and they have a different way to serve it. They serve it in mushroom caps. She was in love. The food was delicious and service was outstanding. The fun thing is the atmosphere.

Great Food and Wonderful Airplane Take Offs/Landings to Boot...

By Yogi |

This restaurant had a great assortment of steak, seafood, pasta, and salads. The appetizers were amazing. I had potato skins, escargo bites, fried zucchine, Caesar salad, and stuffed mushrooms. Delish is all I have to say. The outside seating environment was wonderful especially the cute little gazebo. A great place to take the family or go on a date. Service was spectacular.

Thanksgiving dinner ruined.

By Terry C |

I arrived with my family at 2:15 for a 2:30 Thanksgiving day buffet reservation to find over 50 people milling around under 3 makeshift umbrellas outside the front entrance. They were waiting in line to check in with (1) person from the staff with an Ipad. I was told that they were running about 1/2 hour behind schedule. At 3 pm I checked on the progress and was told they couldn't estimate how long the wait might be. At 3:30 I asked to speak to the manager and she suggested that maybe I could find another restaurant that wasn't so crowded. I have never seen such a poorly run operation. They clearly overbooked and did not have staff on hand to provide any information or updates. There were over 100 people milling around the main foyer insider the establishment to go with the 50 more outside waiting to get out of the rain. I left after 2 hours. Rachel, the manager should be reprimanded at a minimum for ruining Thanksgiving dinner for scores of families. She was angry, aloof and offered no sort of apology despite numerous opportunities. I will never return.

Quiet dinner spot

By 48Buddy |

We enjoyed a very good steak dinner and had great service by Sarah. On Tuesday night there is no corkage fee if you want to take your own bottle of wine. The bib lettuce salad was delicious and our steaks were cooked perfectly. We loved the warm sourdough loaf served before the meal. I haven't tried the buffet but somehow think ordering from the menu might be better based on other reviewers comments. The creamed corn that comes with each meal is very sweet and creamy. It's a nice quiet place to get a good meal, especially if you want to avoid the busier traffic areas around town.

This is a hidden Gem in San Diego that not everyone talks about!!!

By EricStarcher1974 |

The Sunday brunch is amazing! the atmosphere is relaxed and classy. the food was top-notch. Kids will love this place for the kid friendly foods but adults will love the carving station, Fajita Station, Pasta made to order, omelet bar, and crepe station. It is pricey at $40 a person for Brunch on holidays (We went on Christmas Morning) but well worth it with unlimited Champaign and juices. The Proximity to the airfield gives it a feel of an old WWI flight bunker with all the recreated planes and big guns outside. There are also headphones at many tables so kids can listen to the air traffic control tower. Overall, Brunch is a much. I'm already planning on going when its not a holiday. Definitely make reservations!

Great venue for a happy hour

By Jessica S |

The terraces and lawn allow for parties large and small to come and go. The staff is super helpful, and the drinks are good. I have never eaten a sit down meal here, we just go for appetizers and a drinks, but the sunset is gorgeous and everything has always been good. The restaurant has lots of different settings, all are clean and look inviting. There is plenty of parking and it is close to the freeways. My one warning....there used to be a swingers meet-up there on Thursdays evenings that led to some interesting conversations. I don't think it is active anymore.

Great early dining special meals

By James S |

Overall a great restaurant in San Diego. From 4 to 6, they have one of the best early diner options. Your choice of fish, prime rib, parmesan chicken, or sirloin steak. Large portions. Soup or choice of three salads. potatoes, rice or veggies. Baked $2 extra. Tea or coffee and choice of ice cream or delicious cheesecake. All in a great atmosphere for about $22. This was a family get together. House wine was good and a good size pour for the price. Service was really good. Some might say a little slow but I thought it gave us time for good discussions without being rushed. More like on a cruise ship. By the way we found out too late that that Tuesday was bring your own wine without a corkage fee. WOW.

Not my best meal

By Howard R |

We started with the french onion soup. Lot's of cheese, tasty broth and a few onions but it was ruined with their "leftover" cracked wheat bread that detracts from the dish itself. They serve this bread with every meal in a little loaf form. It's tasty and compliments the meal, but should not be used in the soup. I ordered the Jumbo prawns breaded in Macadamia nuts and coconut. They came out as butterflied shrimp, our of a frozen box. No flavor and over fried. Looked very nice, but I expected much better and fresh for the price...expensive at $5 per flat shrimp. I had the baked potato that had been baked many many hours before and therefore was not fresh either. Overall, I was very disappointed.

Favorite restaurant now off the list!

By Cynthia B |

This is (was) one of my favorite restaurants. Been going there for over 40 years! Never again. I don't usually write reviews but was so upset by the manager's rudeness and lack of concern for our opinion that I felt I should. The prime rib, which is usually excellent, came blood rare, when I asked for medium. Took it back and it came back well done. They have changed their wonderful loaves of bread for plain rolls, and the signature creamed corn came without the corn-all cream! When I mentioned this, rather than ask if they could get us some new creamed corn, he pointed out that the bread and corn were complimentary and made me feel I had no right to voice how I felt. The prime rib was overly fatty. No apologies, no respect, no understanding. Won't go back there again. How sad it has gone so far downhill.

Great Experience

By nippon703 |

We were in San Diego for the weekend. Years ago we went to the 94th and decided to give it another try. What a great treat! We went to their happy hour barbeque on Friday night. They have chips, cheese and veggies on the patio BUT in addition, the chef is also making ribs, kabobs, tacos and other stuff on the grill. We tried several of the appetizer and a picture of beer. It was a wonderful way to spend the late afternoon. Service was perfect, the view was entertaining (lots of small planes doing touch and goes). The theme of the restaurant is wonderful. You must give it a try.

Good food yet it Needs a good cleaning

By S R |

I have been coming here as I can remember and while the food and service is always good it can really use a good cleaning. Top to bottom including the dishes. While it has not changed at all over the years it can still be kept clean and fresh.

Good Food and Service

By John H |

Was at the 94th Aero Squadron with 14 people for a dinner. We were there in time for the "early bird" menu with was nice and at a reasonable price. Service was good and everyone seemed to enjoy their food. It's an easy drive down Balboa Avenue from either the 15 or 163.

Trip back in Time

By Sherri66 |

Enjoy a trip back to a WW1 bunker while looking over the runways of Montgomery Field. Steaks and seafood, all are top rated. Atmosphere is cozy for couples, yet not inappropriate for friends or business.

A culinary birthday flight

By Sramdiego |

We have gone to the 94th Aero Squadron many times and have been very impressed with the vintage country French airport ambiance. It is situated adjacent to Montgomery Field, an airport used primarily for private aviation. Its location, away from most San Diego restaurants, may deter some diners, but, aside from the predictable happy hour, there is usually adequate parking. It is a very popular spot for large groups, with the dining area overlooking a sizable garden. Prices are moderate with "early bird" specials that are quite reasonable. Frequent flyers who sign up for birthdays and anniversaries get rewarded with coupons up to $20 off two dinners. Our party of three had the Parmesan chicken in a tomato basil sauce, chicken roulade with creamy cheese and spinach, and swordfish, which was reportedly superb. They have steaks, prime rib, pork chops and more for those who still prefer red meat. I diverted into that realm on a prior visit and totally enjoyed the short ribs. Their signature side dish is a memorable version of creamed corn, served gratis. Most entrees include fresh bread and soup or salad. Yes, naturally, they have French onion soup! Wait staff are friendly and knowledgeable. Wines and spirits are freely available from an extensive bar. A surprise slice of cheesecake greeted the individual who had casually left her birthday card on the table. We will be back for more.

Champagne Buffet Brunch by the Airport

By l1106410 |

A new favorite for brunch! Our favorite place, The Aviara Resort, has closed their buffet brunch, which was disappointing. However, the 94th Aero Group has filled in nicely. The selection is huge, the food very good, the service equally very good and the WW II ambiance provided a different vibe. We sat outside, under an umbrella, and enjoyed the goings on at Montgomery Airport, a small regional location. Our server, Cheryl, took very good care of us and answered our "newbie" questions with grace. I'd like to list all the items available but, that would take up pages. Suffice to say, we will probably be back next Sunday. PS - Reservations are highly recommended to this busy special restaurant. Make them at least a day or two prior, not the day you want to go!

Can be hit and miss

By MarabousMommy |

94th is everything you could want for atmosphere. Decorated in a World War I theme with beautiful gardens, especially lovely at night. However, both the food and the service can be hit and miss. Picked this spot for a Birthday lunch, but have been here many times. On this particular occasion there were several reasons for a less than 5 star rating. For example, I ordered a margarita and was brought what was clearly the house margarita while the table next to me ordered in exactly the same manner and were brought margaritas in shakers that were clearly a much more premium drink. My companion ordered the flat iron steak and it was served to perfection. However, I ordered the chicken roulade, which was so tough I could not cut it with a regular knife. The server neglected to ask our preference for sides and brought vegetables - which were overcooked and flabby. For this particular meal I might have rated the restaurant a three star, but I'm giving it four because of past good experiences. You take your chances when you're coming here.

Not your typical restaurant

By Early B |

The 94th is one of the few remaining WW1 theme stores of what was once a large nationwide chain. This location has hit the mark with ample parking, great theme decor, large and small dining areas, a bar and outdoor tables. Food is just fine, but not gourmet. I've never regretted taking family or business folks there for a meal.

Excellent!!!

By Lindsay P |

I used to come here when I lived in San Diego 10 years ago. I was so excited to learn they still did Sunday brunch with the same excellent spread and champagne, and to share it with my husband.

Very good quality food and service!

By JohnNeos |

Our group of 11 enjoyed a wonderful lunch. First time for me and my family here. To my surprise, the food was very good. The salmon was cooked perfectly and a nice amount. The fish and chips were generous size and very tasty. Nice selection of salads and the sweet potato fries were great!

Good steaks and an open atmosphere

By Carl R |

Good quality honest food served by friendly and accommodating staff in an atmosphere that lets in light and offers a view of the airport.

I will NEVER eat here again.

By lindaw354 |

This place is awful. Went with a group of people, our tables were card tables. The food...the steak was great, all the rest below average. My garlic mashed potatoes were cold and lumpy. The "garden" salad was a few assorted greens with about one cup of salad dressing. It was like salad dressing soup. And the server, totally inappropriate. Touching all of us, giving shoulder rubs, actually kissed my friend on the head. He made a mess of our check, and he talked so loud. It was like he was screaming when he spoke. For two of us, our check was $100. $100 for bad food and to sit at a card table? I don't think so.

Never a disappointment.

By David G |

We have not been to this quaint restaurant in a number of years. Guess we got caught up in all of the new restaurants and trying them. We went on Sunday, the last night of restaurant week and we are sure glad we chose this restaurant. We were seated on time at a great window table overlooking the WWI airplane and gardens. A helicopter was practicing landings on the airstrip beyond. The service was 5-star, making you feel like you were back home. I had the lettuce wedge - fantastic - short ribs - big portion - fantastic fresh and crispy mixed vegetables and cheese cake. My wife chose the appetizer of scallops wrapped in bacon - great taste but very small scallops and only two - even the waiter said that he has tried to get them to add one or two more. Her main course were bacon wrapped shrimp of course with the fresh veggies and creme brulee for dessert. I have to mention the bread as my best buddy says that you can tell how good a meal will be by the bread - how does a fresh hot loaf sound? Sunday Brunch is extremely popular - a lot cheaper if you come in the first hour.

the buffet was crowded. food very good, selection was abundant

By jergmar |

Took a party of 5 to Sunday brunch. Reservation are basically a must for this unless you wait to wait a few hours. The place was very crowded, the wait staff was efficient and courteous. the food was abundant with a large selection and everything we tried was great.

Excellent restaurant and it only took me 26 years to get here

By Neillibin |

Excellent dinner, enjoyed our experience very much. Very Good service plus very good food equals excellent on my chart. I had the French onion soup which was tasty, hot and prepared authentically like I expect. I had the prime rib which was very good, I should have passed on the Au Ju which made it to wet but lived the horseradish. My wife had the cheese soup which was tasty and the filet Kabob which she enjoyed. We finished with a chocolate lava cake and it was awesome but probably not needed after such s large meal. Coffee was perfect.

“He kept us out of war”

By R B |

If you like to step back in time to when Woodrow Wilson was president, this is the place for you. Some cannon at the entrance along with a very old biplane completes the theme. Then again, the food was pretty good as well. A prime rib French dip (is that a contradiction?) and my mate had a Reuben. We were pleased along with the choice of either fries or fruit. The staff was attentive. An enjoyable afternoon.

Fantastic Weekend Brunch spot to go

By Robin Y |

We went with a group of friend and the service was tremendous. The decor is quite fascinating with the old war plane pieces, photos, bunker sacks and they've taken a lot of trouble to make it quite visually stimulating and interesting. It's artistically done, and we appreciated the unique feel. The thing that realliy tipped the scales for us though was the food! It was exceptional! The lamb, beef, very wide variety of veggies and excellent desserts--it was more than we'd hoped for and we'd each highly recommend it.

Nice quiet evening

By Russ V |

This is a good place if you are looking for a quite evening for dinner . Just upscale enough and different to make this an enjoyable evening . The food is more on the rich side not your typical SoCal offerings . Sometimes it's just the right ticket . Meals are complete with soup or salad and potato ect . Creamed Corn is Always served hot to the table as an standard . I thought that was strange till I tasted it . Good stuff !!! A wild range of deserts that are brought to the table to see . The view and friendly staff add to the nice experience . Setting is a old French farmhouse with planes a military equipment from the era . Nice view to the airport , book a window seat or a booth if for 2 .

Wonderful, themed dinner spot

By HollyBerryElf |

Great food, good sized portions, the freshly backed bread loaf is wonderful!! A bit high in price, so it's not someplace to go on a whim. There was a wedding happening in the garden the evening my husband, adult son and I visited. Husband and son are aviation buffs -- so they enjoy looking at the decorating items. Wanted to go back for lunch... but ran out of time while on vacation.

Christmas Eve Dinner Special

By Patricia W |

A friend recommended 94th Aero Squadron Restaurant as a fantastic place to take my wife for a special evening. It was fantastic! The historical memorabilia outside and inside alone made it an evening to remember . The service, food and atmosphere all evening kept us thinking of friends and relatives we wanted to bring back to this restaurant.

Husband's Birthday

By Yellowshirt23 |

We went here for my husbands birthday and my son in law was in town and he use to be in the 94th Aero Squadron. So we decided to take him w/us.We went early and enjoyed the early bird special, we had prime rib, garlic mashed potatoes and creamed corn. Also had french onion soup for a starter everything was very good. We had leftovers and the food was still good after warming it up.Would definitely go again. After dinner we went out back to see all the old decor.

Great for a group

By JeanBean |

Had a group of business people after a meeting. Everyone found something to their liking. Service and food were great. Quiet enough to hear everyone.

Great service and good food.

By Gary H |

Attentive service and good food. Restaurant is a little on the aged side and could use an update, but still nice. Interesting french farmhouse type building on the edge of an active airfield. Watched take offs and landings during dinner. A nice experience. The early flight dinners are a good deal (4-6pm)

Always a fun restaurant

By Eileen C |

I've been there before with friends, this time took husband. He LOVED it. World War I themed including cannons. Great place for wedding and/or reception. Many different rooms and outside venues, Lunch buffet is huge and something for everyone.

Great lunch

By BCRON |

Ate here for lunch with the wife today. We had the buffet and it was great. $14.99 and on Wednesdays they usually have meatloaf with mashed potatoes. Plus they had chicken in a tomato cream sauce. Plus fish and a carving station with beef, turkey and ham. They have a salad bar and desserts. Really tasty.

Great atmosphere

By janad63 |

My reunion committee met there to check out the appetizers for our upcoming casual reunion. The ones we tried were great typical bar food--potatoes skins, calamari, cheeseburger sliders and fries. All good and reasonably priced. Atmosphere is quaint and lots of ambiance sitting right on the runway of Montgomery field. If the price works out for our event, we'll have it there.

Must See For Aviation Enthusiasts!

By Stephen R |

Rachel and the fine folks at the 94th Aero Sq were very helpful and worked ceaselessly in planning my son’s and his fiancé’s wedding rehearsal dinner. My son is a Naval Helo pilot and I’m a retired AF pilot (along with other family members who fly), so the WWI flying squadron theme of the decor was like stepping back in the past. Staff was great, food was great. Thank you for a wonderful evening!

Not So Great Swordfish

By Robert L |

Five of us dined at the 94th Aero Squadron last night. The service (by Kevin) was pretty good. Most of the food was good except for my swordfish. It had a thick coat of "breading" on it and it tasted like raw flour. Our waiter, Kevin's, took it off my bill, which was appropriate in this case.

Tried it for Restaurant Week - glad we did

By David W |

We were late making reservations for restaurant week and mid-week we were able to get one here for Friday night. Looked interesting, and it appears that the Butcher Shop is a sister restaurant where we had a good experience. We got seated at exactly our reservation time and got a beautiful table by the window overlooking the patio. I’m guessing that if it were light we would have had a glimpse of the airport. The service was quite good considering how busy they were. The French onion soup was some of the best we’ve had (we went to Morton’s last night and this onion soup was much better, which surprised me based upon the price difference). My wife had the pistachio crusted sea bass which she quite liked. I had the prime rib which I ordered medium rare, which came out a bit under that and I was worried; however, it was some of the best I’ve had in quite some time. The horseradish sauce was a little sweet, and I would have liked it just a bit spicier but that’s just being picky. I added on the bacon wrapped stuffed shrimp which were amazing. We watch our carbs and don’t have mashed potatoes very often so the garlic mashed potatoes were like a visit to heaven (ok, that’s a bit dramatic but I quite liked them). The dessert was crème brulee which was very tasty but could have been just a bit sweeter and the sugar a bit crispier, but again that’s just the difference from very good to amazing. Overall, very nice evening and this is now definitely on our go to list. To finish, as a comparison, we went to Morton’s last night (we loved Morton’s when we lived in Dallas so much so that we took a 5pm reservation just to get in for their RW menu). Was quite surprised when comparing back to back nights - while Morton’s at twice the price was good, all things being equal I think I would rather come back to the 94th.

Worst Restaurant in San Diego!

By Heidi J |

Don’t waste your money!!!! The food was mediocre at best. We came for restaurant week, which was highly disappointing. The portions were tiny. The price was outrageous, and the food was terrible—such a disappointing experience. My husband and I used to come here before Covid, and it was our favorite place for special occasions. We did not know there was a management change until we complained to our waitress. The best thing this restaurant should do is close its doors because it’s a disgrace to what it used to be. Its reputation of what it was will with this staff and these cooks will never be the same. Don’t go and waste your money! It was so disappointing .

It's an experience

By Eileen C |

Went for lunch with a girlfriend. Had the buffet. Just about anything you could ask for and more. Prices very reasonable and a Bloody Mary also. Restaurant is very unique overlooking the runway of Montgomery Field. Sit enjoy lunch and watch planes take off. Relaxing afternoon.

Great food, excellent theme restaurant

By retired42 |

I was pleased to find another 94th Aero Squadron in San Diego. The food was excellent and the setting was very quaint, as in a real WWI war zone. Service was great, and the prices were average. There's an early-bird special that is a great value, offering a selection of menu items.

Great lunch

By Angie A |

The buffet is wonderful, the beer cheese soup is great, as is the onion soup, only sad thing is, not enough of it, even if you order the bowl!

What have you done to our restaurant?!

By Debby L |

We are faithful customers of the 94th Aero Squadron. Each year San Diego holds 2 "Restaurant Weeks" that have included the 94th Aero Squadron and we go every year. Each time we have company, we've taken them to the 94th for Sunday brunch. In former times, the 94th has offered one of the most stupendous Sunday brunches in town. Most recently we treated my foodie sister and her family to brunch and they loved it! But...but. Last Sunday we took our son and his family to Sunday brunch at the 94th and it was an unmitigated disaster! The "croissants" were as hard as granite as were the slices of "fresh" fruit - something for which there was no excuse in this part of the country!! I had an omelette made at the omelette station and I was physically ill for the following three days. The sausages were stone cold, very unpleasant! The pastries were cloyingly sweet to the point of being inedible. To add insult to injury, they charged us an additional $5 for the bottle of water my husband asked for without mentioning the additional price as they poured as many glasses of California champagne as people could drink (we didn't have any, by the way). Needless to say, we are looking for a new Sunday brunch venue.

Reliable prime rib

By JoAnn P |

Went for husband's birthday. We all had the petite cut prime rib and they cooked it right for everyone. One note, if you want thick prime rib, check about the next sizes up as the petite cut is a thinner slice, but still good and 8 oz was enough of a portion for all each member of our foursome with the bread, salad, potatoes, and creamed corn that came with. They gave him a complimentary cheesecake with raspberry sauce that he loved! Our server was a young gentleman and very nice, wish I'd gotten his name.

Nothing special

By Arnie R |

With so many other Sunday brunch places to go, I have no idea why folks come here. The food lacks skill in preparation and the buffet is filled with unimaginative choices. The terriaki salmon was very sweet, the shrimp tiny, the ceviche lacked the tang of lime and the eggs Benedict were served on an untoasted English muffin. The only redeeming thing was that the patio looked lovely and was dog friendly.

VALENTINE’S DAY!! Epic!!

By Dancinkwn |

❤️💕💝VALENTINE’S DAY 2019!!EPIC!! The 94 Aero Squadron did a fine job accommodating us with a window seat to the Airfield and a Champagne, Lobster, Steak and Shrimp Dinner for Two with beautiful heart-shaped Red Velvet Chocolate Mousse Cake for dessert. Oh, and how could I forget the Beer/Cheese Soup! To Live For!! The Food and Service were both superb and we loved our romantic booth by the window. Thank you all for making the evening comfortable and VERY special! So grateful!

Mission Accomplished! A Five star lunch buffet!

By finnickytraveler |

I was in town on business, (see my review of the Casa Machado on the other side of Montgomery Field!) I was working with a client a short walk down the street and they suggested trying this place. This was a very cool place, I have never seen a WW I themed restaurant before! Old by-planes were out front and inside the place was decorated in a WW I theme. It was also right on an active Airfield. In case you are wondering, I guess the 94th Aero squadron was the most successful U.S. Air squadron in all of WW I. Anyway on to the food. The buffet was large and had a large variety of items. Hand carved Roast Beef. Chafing dishes with many hot dishes, like chicken, fish, rice , vegetables. In addition, there were two soups and a large cold salad bar with fresh lettuce and many, any other salads and sides, plus a large variety of dressings. Finally there was fresh bread and a bunch of deserts. I focused many on the salad bar as I did not want to over eat and be too sluggish at my appointments, although I did indulge in a little of the fish and rice. Everything was fresh and well prepared. The service was excellent and my attentive waitress made sure I had refills of water and I promptly received the check. This is an "Old School" restaurant. Linen table cloths and napkins, with that old world charm. I didn't try the deserts, but they did look good. It did seem to draw an more senior crowd, who perhaps are into buffets. As someone who really does not do buffets this place blew me away and I would certainly try it again if I were back in town for business. And if you are into eating and getting your money's worth, I imagine that is quite easy to do, if you had the appetite, so it is definitely a good value.

Sunday brunch

By Julie A |

The food is pretty good. The buffet area can be a bit cramped. Part of the restaurant is pretty cute and then one room is big and ugly with crappy chairs (our party was large) so that's where we were seated. They charged us for sprites for the kids (we didn't know they weren't included) and the waiter only refilled them once. We asked several times for refills. At one point we grabbed the bottle of champagne and filled out glasses ourselves. At one point, when I asked for a child's drink refill the waiter said, "we are here for you all have to do is ask..." um we did ask, you didn't do it and good service means not asking. Also, the chocolate fountain was broken ☹️. I would come back but I'd want a different waiter.

Nice ambiance, disappointing food

By Jay A |

Four of us tried this place during Restaurant Week, looking forward to a nice meal. The place has a nice ambiance but I was disappointed in the meal. I ordered the sirloin and the vegetable side. The meat was so tough to I had to ask for a steak knife. It was difficult to chew and I left half on my plate. The meat sauce was very viscous and had a shiny surface that was not appealing nor flavorful. The vegetables were a mix of hot and cold. (How'd they do that?) The other quests were less disappointed but not impressed. We don't have a desire to return. I expected a greater effort on their Prix Fixe menu during Restaurant Week.

Terrible service enough to where we will not return

By Cathleen-Randy B |

We are acquainted with 94th Aero. We have dined at the restaurant for many holidays, where they offer the buffet, and we have had functions there also. On those occasions, everything was fine. My husband and I happened to be driving by looking for a restaurant and seeing as we have never dined in the regular restaurant, we decided to give it a try. That was a mistake. It was Saturday at 7:30 and the parking lot was a not even a quarter of the way full. The hostess was very nice and welcomed us with a smile. We were seated right away in the back section right next to the windows. Our waitress took a few minutes to come to our table and when she finally it was not great. She did not greet us. She did not introduce herself. She did not offer us a drink or any suggestions. She simply walked up to our table and said " Can I get you something." After that it ruined to mood of our meal. I'm regretting my gut feeling of walking out. When she took our order, she was actually speaking and greeting someone else in the middle of us ordering. She also did not offer us the soup or salad that came with our meal. When we asked her she said "oh yeah, sometimes people order it." Sometimes? It's says it right in the menu and you're a server. She was unattentive. She was rude. The only time she seemed remotely interested in us is when we were leaving knowing it was time for her tip, for which she purposely circled how much percentage each tip was. She got more than what she deserved from us. We will not be going back and we will not recommend this restaurant to anyone.

Please adjust the Brunch area

By Jemma1502 |

We came here for Sunday brunch again and we knew this time to make sure to have reservations before hand. We made them for noon and surprisingly, it wasn't too busy from the looks outside. Not too many people waiting for tables because they were all able to be seated. I'm still baffled how they have the buffet line set up. It gets so crowded and I am finding myself regularly having to lift my plate over peoples heads as I walk through. It's never relaxing and I always feel rushed to either get some food or move along so I'm not creating a road block. After we got our first plate and went back to our table, we noticed we were only given spoons; no forks or knives. We sat there patiently for our server to come back but our food started to get cold. We asked another female server if we could get utensils and she told us to "ask your server, thanks". So we waited longer. Finally he comes back and we ask for utensils as well as water. Well, the utensils finally arrived but no water. The server passed by at least 3-4 times and just kept saying that the water was coming. Well, we were almost done with our first plate by the time we got some...in a small plastic juice cup. I really like this place but they just need to change up the brunch display. It's a mess and hard to navigate when there are multiple people racing for food.

Excellent Food, Great Service and Love the Theme

By Colin Archibald |

Built as a WWI theme, 94th Aero Squadron is a fun place to visit. They have headphones at some of the booths and you can listen to traffic at the tower at Montgomery Field next door. We had great Service and the food was delicious. We also love to go here for the Sunday Brunch. They put on quite a spread (Buffet Style).

WW i motif classic

By Retiredgenman |

From the open cockpit Tri-plane in the garden to the bunker feel of the lobby this restaurant has character. The photos, maps, charts, and the line of site to Montgomery field make this a WW I aeroplane buff's favorite hangout. Put on the table side headphones and listen to the air control tower. Lunch or dinner will bring you high quality flavorful meal. Lunchtime has a buffet of salads, several hot dishes and desserts.

Easter Brunch

By Keith M |

Easter 2018. We chose a late brunch seating 2 pm. we were told they were running 1 hour late. It was about 30 minutes late. not the largest brunch spread, it had just as much salad as dessert. At 2 pm it was well picked over, the kitchen was still trying to keep on top of stocking the food. Unlimited champagne and sparkling apple cider for the kids. Well worth the trip. Plenty of parking

Great food for family/friend time

By Eileen C |

Early Father's Day with kids and grandkids. 10 in all. They all loved their time here. Outside patio has been enhanced and beautifully done. Full menu soon. Fun time for all and great food. Buffet coming back soon. Yea. Manuela was our server. She also made it fun for the kids. Great drinks.

A must for history buffs and people who like champagne brunches on Sunday

By EmmaSeattle |

I come here every time I'm in San Diego. It’s getting a new life through excellent management: they’re keeping it popular with live music and events and I’m glad. The Sunday brunch is a buffet that is fairly pricey at 30.00 a person but the food is all good and fresh, and includes champagne or sparkling apple juice. There is the usual roast beef and crab legs but also I think three kinds of salmon, shrimp of various sorts, they had scallops, green salad bar, a lot of breads (probably not for people with gluten issues. I saw five kinds of bread and am not sure if there is any way they can isolate so call first if this is you), cheese blintzes, bacon, eggs, Greek salad…. I can’t even remember everything but we all found plenty to eat. While not spectacular, the food has always been firmly acceptable and the atmosphere is marvelous to an aviation history buff. In a building meant to resemble a French WWI farm house as it would be if taken over by allied fliers, the restaurant is on a small airstrip. When it’s not super crowded and noisy like it is during Sunday brunch (make reservations or come early!), you can pick up a set of headphones provided at each table and listen to the airfield tower chatter. The music is generally 40’s which is not quite accurate but gets the feel without the tinny sound of actual WWI tunes and the walls are covered with aviation memorabilia and photos of the pilots of all countries. Signage and incidentals also feed into the complete mood. It’s just a lot of fun, like a mini Disneyland for adults. We met friends and had a great time. I'm sorry for the person who's review says waiter ruined it. Our server was attentive, friendly without being weird and prompt despite the crowds. It is noisy on Sunday because of this but still a good experience.

Great atmosphere and good food

By Jungster42 |

I came here for lunch years ago and since I was in San Diego for business, I thought I’d go back for dinner. As a solo eater, I recommend eating the “Ready Room” aka the Bar. I ate in the dinner hall and while the service was good, it’s lonely as a solo. The food and service is great. Lot of variety to choose from: beef, chicken, pasta, and fish dishes. Prices range from $25-$45 and side and soup/salad are included. This place has a lot of character. Decorated as a WWI aero squad HQ, it’s pretty neat to walk around and look at the stuff.

Don't bother coming unless you love bad service

By Moxiegrl |

We came for the Sunday brunch which we have had before and loved. We were told the wait time would be 30 to 45 minutes. We waited an hour, which was understandable because of the brunches popularity. However, when it was our turn the server started walking aimlessly around the restaurant while we followed caring a toddler and an infant seat. Let me tell you, this was not an easy feat given his crammed the customers were (think sardines) inside the restaurant. We finally got close enough to him to ask if he was talking us to our seats, to which he replied "oh you were following me?" Wait, it gets better. He then tells us he is looking for a high chair for us and didn't know we didn't know where our table was, because I guess we looked psychic or something. Then another server so had heard this laughed in a mocking tone and said sarcastically "good luck finding a high chair". Needless to say, I turned around and walked out. There are better places to eat in San Diego. Places where they actually care about you. Find one and go there instead.

Declining Service and SubPar Food

By Navy_Lady |

First, let me preface this review by stating that I have been a loyal customer for decades. I used to love coming to Sunday Brunch, had a birthday celebration here, and married my husband in the back patio area. We loved relaxing and watching the helicopters land! Over the years, it seems that the service has declined and management has lost interest in keeping this place alive and thriving. I always get the prime rib. However, on this occasion, it seems that the staff wanted to pass off a regular cut as an end cut. Mind you, the end cuts are always my favorite, as they are tasty and are the two ends of the meat that receive the most heat and are normally well done and seasoned nicely. In this case, I was asked how I wanted the meat cooked. What?!? I responded that it should be quite well, or at least medium well. The server said that he could get it rare if that's what I desired. Okay, so the server is ignorant. That notwithstanding, I asked for it well done. And I got a very nice slice of prime rib, equally thick all the way across, certainly not from the end. It was in fact well done, but it was not an end cut. It had the consistency of rubber and virtually no taste. Even the garlic mashed potatoes tasted slimy and were unpalatable. I also ordered the french onion soup, which was another disappointing item. It was incredibly overseasoned with sprigs of some twig floating about, and the onions were not cooked through. We were apparently not the only folks with problems. The table next to us had such a time of it that their entire meal was comp'ed. The manager hovered near their table but not once checked on anyone else. We had to snag someone for coffee and water, because our server was intent on providing service to a nearby table composed of five cute little girls that apparently needed his presence throughout their entire meal. We were very disappointed. Bad service, bad food, all-around bad experience. This is certainly not the 94th Aero that we had come to love. We will. Not. Be. Back.

For the small plane enthusiast!

By BSquires |

My husband and adult son had appetizers and drinks outside while watching planes fly by as well as checking out the planes, ambulance, and ducks in the back yard. Inside was so has so much history, we sat in the bar area for a while as well. We shared crab cakes, fried zucchini, and prime rib bites. It was all great and the sangrias were so refreshing. They also sell good cigars that can be smoked in the back yard. They have specials everyday which is good because it's quite pricey but worth it. We will be back for a full meal very soon. Great for everyone including families.

Really big brunch

By JimmyJackk |

Probably one of the better brunches in San Diego. About $32 per person beet to have reservation. Lots of choices from prime rib, waffle bar and pasta station. Cool World War II decor.

Great Buffet

By Aprilp2412 |

Normally I am not a big fan of buffets, but I am all about 94th Aero Squadron. I don't know why I haven't written a review for them yet because I have been here a bunch of times now and it has been consistently great. The first nice thing is the atmosphere, the decor is interesting and the exterior feels like a storybook. The service I have received has been good, sometimes better than others but I have never had anyone bad. The food is turned over quickly so I am not freaked out about it sitting out or getting over exposed to gross people. Some of the options are average but some are fantastic. My favorites are the meat carving station, especially the ham, and the dessert selection is amazing! You can pretty much find something here no matter what you like, they have options from bread to fruit, pasta to fish. The Sunday Brunch is the best, you get unlimited champagne!

Sunday brunch buffet

By Benita W |

The atmosphere was cozy. The restaurant is decorated for the holidays. The service and greeting from each staff we came into contact with was pleasant and helpful. The food was delicious. The price was reasonable for brunch buffet. AND endless mimosas.

30 minutes to order

By Climber13181143119 |

There is literally about 8 people in this restaurant on a Wednesday evening. I got here at 6pm and am sitting on the patio. I had to go inside 3x to ask to order, what the hell is wrong with this place. I finally ordered about 6:26pm. Thereason was no apology or anything, just " what do you want to order". This place has went way downhill from back in the day. 1 star! Crazy...

So So

By hale1922 |

My staff took me for my birthday lunch. We sat at a table that felt like it was going to slide everything into my lap. We ad the lunch buffet which was decent.best thing was the crab salad. Service is very lacking and we had to hunt someone down to try and get a drink refill. Not terrible...not great. The price of the lunch buffet is very reasonable but the service or lack thereof is a downside.

Unique restaurant in a land of suburban vanilla

By TributaryKari |

There aren't many places in suburbia where you can sip cocktails, watch helicopters take off, and see the chickens come to roost - all at the same time. This quirky, 1940s-themed local restaurant boasts a lot of atmosphere (excuse the aviation pun) - inside and out. Roomy wood-paneled bar area true to the aviation theme, well-appointed dining tables overlooking the air field, and patio seating outside among the vines, vegetables, and fowl (yes, there are chickens and other waterfowl about). Menu was simple - mostly steak and seafood - but the plates were satisfying and well presented. I'll definitely be back when I have more time to wander around - hopefully when the fly boys stop by!

Good food, wonderful Sunday Brunch

By Kevin R |

I was visiting friends in San Diego this weekend when you can imagine how delighted I was to find the 94th Aero Squadron where we had Sunday Brunch. I remember going to the 94th in Van Nuys, CA many years ago (like almost 30) and loving it the. You can imagine how excited I was to find another in San Diego. Food was very good, place was packed and service was good. However, it was nearly 100 degrees outside and inside wasn't much better. There was an obvious problem with their old or outdated air conditioning units. It was very unpleasant from that aspect. They must do something about that if they every hope to have me come back again.

Gotten much better with new Owner

By BCRON |

Had lunch here today. We were a little worried as we still had money from a gift card from 2 years ago. Also some of the reviews have not been to good since the new owners. But they said bring it in and we can look it up. We went for the lunch buffet as we had before. All I can tell you is that the food was good before but it's great now. Also we didn't see any of the old staff. And we were glad as the service wasn't all that good before. The service is great now. We are really happy with the changes. They only went up a dollar since last year on the buffet. With the cost of food and labor going up as it has the last year that is not bad. Lunch is now 15.95 And well worth it. The main dishes were Beef stroganoff, chicken in a tomato and cream basil sauce, some kind of fish. Plus a carving station with Roast Beef, turkey and ham. The beef was really good. Used to be tough and tasteless. They have a salad bar and dessert bar also. Thank you to the new owner for the great improvement.

Delicious dining experience

By MNVoyageuse |

Charming restaurant with great ambiance, service and food. Steaks were cooked to perfection, garlic mashed were better than most. If I lived in San Diego, I would eat here often.

The most disrespectful staff!

By Joe M |

Didn't even get to sit down because of the poor attitude of the host and his assistant. Arrived to the restaurant at 4:45 and was told 20-30 min wait without a reservation with a very smug tone. 45 minutes later a couple came in without a reservation and was seated right away due to having an "in" with the host. When confronted over the issue we were given a poor attitude and told that reservations are the preferred way in despite his quote of time. Never have I been so disrespected at a restaurant! Wanted to enjoy the ambiance with my wife and two young boys who love airplanes only to have the day ruined by condescending staff.

What A Great Experience!!!!!!

By DanandJosi |

Food, ambiance, people, staff!!! It was all first class! I went there by myself and was so impressed that I went the following night and the staff remembered me. I will always go back there when I am in San Diego.

Cool Aviation Themed Restaurant

By beetrvln |

Stopped in for a weekday lunch and was pleasantly surprised and delighted with the restaurant. Filled with military items and history, the exterior of the beautiful is beautiful and not your average restaurant. 94th Aero Squadron sits on the Montgomery Executive Field airport in San Diego and offers views of the runways, airport and a beautiful patio and yard with more military equipment. They offer a large buffet for lunch, and the price is reasonable. Not that hungry, we ordered off the menu. This is where I took the rating down one. While the food was good and average, it wasn't spectacular. I had the crab cakes with a tomato based sauce. The crab cakes had plenty of crab, the sauce was a tad oily and it was lacking salt, which is a simple fix. Mr. Bee ordered the French Dip Sandwich and said it was very good, but the meat had some chunks of fat that weren't rendered down and were quite chewy. With that said, I would go back when in San Diego just for the views and the ambiance of the restaurant. With a few minor changes, the food could be great and it would elevate the restaurant another point. There is plenty of parking, and a fun spot to watch a few planes. For the military and war buffs, they will love the history contained in the restaurant.

So many choices, so little time at bottomless brunch

By Anne T |

We decided to go out for Sunday brunch last month when my son was visiting town. Our requirements included a place that served brunch later than the usual 2 p.m., and also a buffet-style restaurant rather than the type of place where you order a "brunch item" from the menu. No, we wanted many tables groaning with goodies from fruit to seafood and everything in between, plus champagne, and we found all this and more at 94th Aero Squadron (which serves until 3 p.m.). It happened to be Father's Day and we did not have a reservation, so we waited almost an hour to be seated. But the wait was worth it. 94th Aero Squadron has everything you could possibly want at a brunch. First we filled our plates with crab legs, New Zealand mussels and shrimp. Then some members of our party went for breakfast items like eggs, bacon and sausage while others (myself included) opted for carved roast beast and teriyaki salmon. Next came cheese blintzes and juicy chunks of watermelon, honeydew and pineapple. Our friendly and attentive server kept our champagne glasses filled, and also brought orange juice for those that wanted mimosas. I had to take a rest with a cup from the cappuccino station before I surveyed the dessert table, which featured pies, cakes, cheesecake, crepes and a chocolate fountain. My choices were a small slice of German chocolate cake and the lemon portion of lemon meringue pie. We ate until we were past full, and still barely scratched the surface. Other offerings included a dozen salads, fajitas, pasta and every type of meat from ham to lamb. Best of all, this huge array only cost $28.95 per adult. Comparable all-you-can-eat brunches at places like the Bali Hai, Tom Ham's and Humphreys range from $38 to $46.95, with the brunch queen, the Hotel del Coronado, ringing in at a cool $90 per person. As you can tell by the name, 94th Aero Squadron is an aviation-themed restaurant that overlooks Montgomery Field Airport. The building is a replica of a French farmhouse circa World War 1, with ivy-covered bricks outside and dark wood and stone fireplaces inside. Since it was a hot afternoon, we sat outside under an umbrella-topped table. The interior is full of aviation memorabilia, which we did not have time to peruse with all the eatin' going on. Outside there are antique farm implements as well as an old model airplane reminiscent of the Red Baron! I'm sure we'll make another landing at this fantastic brunch in the future.

Great Food for a Group

Great food and variety for a large group of 15. Delicious appetizers, nice wine list. I had organized the dinner and received lots of compliments! Thanks so much!

Great View, Great Food

Went during San Diego Restaurant Week. I had the prime rib, wife had the short ribs. Both were well presented and delicious. Service was great, prices reasonable. What more could you ask for. Throw in the view overlooking the airport and you have it all.

$100 per person buffet. Bad conditions, scorching hot people crammed in like sardines

By Julie G |

We arrived on Mother's Day for $100 per person brunch. There was absolute chaos. Way over booked. Long lines and rude manager. I'll never go back. I consider them thieves.

Airplane enthusiasts and WWI buffs don't miss this

By waller1234 |

Romantic spot for lovers or aircraft enthusiasts. Do not go on Friday night unless you like the bar crowd. Go early for the special. It includes an ice cream and coffee or tea. Our waiter Victor was fab. My daughter drew a picture for him and he took real good care of us.

Worst than eating "C" rations in Vietnam and just as cold.

By Walt H |

Lunch buffet was not hot and over salted[I see why so many Americans have Diabetes] Fish, ribs, roast beef and vegetables were all cold and the roast beef was not chewable even the pecan pie was not good. Iced tea was the best thing they had. Our waitress was very pleasant through the whole ordeal. As bad as the food was they still had the fortitude to charge $45. Do not wast your hard earned money here. As I said in the title "C" rations in Vietnam were just as cold and tasted just as bad and I didn't have to pay for them. They are fast at charging your credit card, the charge was on my bill by the time we returned home 4 miles away. Yes I know I should have known better than to go there.

Great place to eat

By William Mcleroy |

Took my nephew here for his 15th birthday. As we checked in the wished him happy birthday which made his day. Both our food orders were very good. I ate too much bread and took my food home. Our food came out very quickly so we were not stuck waiting forever. Its a great place to take kids since there are planes hanging all over.

Grad family party

By Thomas R |

Unique restaurant set back off main road in hi tech office area with plenty of parking. Longtime in area with back patio area park of present airport. We had large private room for party and service was always spot on with refills and whatever you needed. Prime rib and chicken buffet was great as were the desserts. Unique interior of aircraft parts, pictures and memorabilia.

EXCELLENT FOOD WITH RATHER SLOW SERVICE

By Steven C |

My wife and I have been to the 94th Aero Squadron in Van Nuys, CA several times over the years but never knew there was one in the San Diego metro area until we did an OpenTable search on a recent visit. We were advised that the four 94th restaurants across the U.S. are no longer affiliated with each other however, this restaurant is very similar to the one in Van Nuys. The decor is classic World War One era and the food/drinks overall are very good. The prices are a little pricey, but not as high as many fine dining restaurants today. They also offer happy hour and other specials throughout the week. The service was very good overall however, it is slow. (Not as slow as that encountered in European restaurants but much slower than most of us expect in the U.S.) If you have somewhere you need to be and are in a hurry, do not come here. In short, if you want somewhere to dine for a special occasion or to be romantic (and you are not in a hurry), this place makes for a nice change of pace from the normal fine dining restaurant.

Good Food

By Deborah L |

We have visited this Restaurant before and loved it, so we went again. The service was wonderful and the food was great. The price is a little more expensive but with the portions, is it well worth it.

waiter ruined it

By Sully1953 |

Generally from the reservation being placed to our seating the service was very good. We had a server who I assume was attempting to be funny but it fell flat. He totally forgot our drinks order, until reminded, forgot a portion of our meal, until reminded and then served the cream corn as if he was in an prison mess. When he was asked to pick up the spillage from the table cloth he responded that he 'had people to do that'. really took the ambiance away for us. We will probably return but will be more wary.

Horrible food! Way WAY overpriced!

By Maya |

Don't be fooled by any of the good reviews! These must have been done years back or by friends of the owners When you first arrive, the place looks beautiful and enchanting, the decor is excellent HOWEVER, the food is horrible! Worst than the worst Diner, and that's an insult to any diner. Super PRICEY for the quality. Really NOT worth it. It's $65 per person for a Sunday brunch plus tax so really $70 for food you won't eat. Also, be aware that the price changes depending on the time! AND depending on whether you have a reservation or not. I called 3 times to make a reservation without being able to get through! Now I know why… So they can hike up the price on you without a reservation. I wish I could give this place 0 stars. Don't waste your time or money. It would be so much better with the same place different owners and different chefs with better quality food. If you ever go, make sure you order only a drink! It might be a $10 awful drink but the place is really cute!

Great food, great atmosphere, and great service

By Josh B |

Stopped here with my boss and a few other colleagues for dinner. Service was prompt and profession. The view was fun entertainment and the atmosphere was a fun change. All of us had a steak (N.Y. Strip, Ribeye, Sirloin) and we were pleased with the way they were cooked and presented with the sides. Our server was Charllote. She was nice an attentive and provided a few laughs as well. The manage came by our table to see how everything was as well, which is a nice thing to see. Over all experience was 5 stars, easy. "Can I have sweet tea?" "Uh, no." 😂

Unobliging During Restaurant Week

By drodrigz |

San Diego has Restaurant Week twice a year - in January and then late September or first week in October. This is a time when restaurants try to drum up future business by putting together a few fixed price menus to entice patrons and showcase their restaurant. I’m a foodie and I love this Week! We had not been here in ages, their restaurant week menu looked enticing, and more importantly, due to my wife’s food allergies, it appeared all four entrees she could eat. However, when we got to the restaurant, and asked about the entrees, we found out that 3 of the 4 entrees contained mushrooms - which was not listed on the menu. Had we known, we would have not made the trip to this restaurant. When we explained about the allergies to the waitress, and then again to the manager, and asked for some different preparations, we were shocked at how uncaring, unaccomodating, and unyielding to the manager was. We left, never to return again!

Group dinner

By LivingLovingItaly |

Haven't been to this chain in over 20 years when it closed in Orlando. This dinner brought me back. Looks and feels like the way I remembered. The group was 50-60 adults for a weekday dinner. The style of French country farm house over looking the executive airport is unique and cozy even in a group setting. Service was super with drinks and genuine helpful staff for a large group. Dinner choices served buffet style with salads, 3 proteins, fresh crunchy steamed veggies was really good. The chicken was perfect and not over cooked like every buffet chicken usually is. A huge dessert stay in include lemon meringue pie which was the only disappointment - slightly soggy and more sweet than tart. Great place for a group and definitely will go back for dinner or brunch.

Restaurant Week 2017

By Jim S |

After reviewing about a dozen restaurant menus for Restaurant Week 2017, we chose four. One was the 94th Aero Squadron. The name was intriguing but the menu options had us salivating. We had reservations and were seated almost immediately. Place was very busy for a Tuesday evening, so we figured we had chosen well. Outdoor ambiance was enhanced with well lit full scale vintage airplanes with a howitzer cannon near the restaurant entrance. Loved the fact the kitchen is open and visible to many tables. A cute touch was the head phones that were on the short divider wall next to the table. When I tried them on, I heard a pilot or the tower say something about clearance. Then I saw an airplane take off in the distance. Close to Embry Riddle U. My wife chose the beer cheese soup and I the bacon wrapped scallops for appetizers. We're from Wisconsin, so the beer cheese tasted a little light on the cheese, but tasty. Scallops were huge and definitely fresh. Bacon could have been done a bit more. Unfortunately our entrees arrived before we were done with the appetizers. Her shrimp wrapped in bacon were excellent. Garlic mashed potatoes a little disappointing I had the seabass provencal with fresh vegetables on the side. Exceptional preparation of the bass. We both chose the creme brulee desserts, and were exceedingly disappointed. The fresh berries on top were very good. The flamed crust was tasty but the custard was flat and almost tasteless. The waitress was qick to apologize and called the manager. He took them away and said he would speak tot he chef. They were removed from the bill. We were satisfied and would go back again if in San Diego. I recommend giving them a try.

Deligthful Luch in great setting.

Drove from Manhattan Beach especially for Lunch here at The 94th Aero Squadron. It is located across from a small airfield love the setting with the aircraft and outside dining area, Service was excellent and meal was worth the journey.

Seems a bit tired

By Dan O |

Prime rob was over cooked and had to be replaced. Service seemed slow and they were not overly crowded when my wife and I went. They didn't offer anything to make up for our medium rare prime rib dinners, that came out medium well. A drink or glass of wine would have made me feel better. I used to love this place but haven't been there in a long time and it has definitely gone downhill. I'd give it an OK at best. The nightclub next door looked fun, but we didn't go.

Love this place

By SharonLDRN |

This was the first time I have gone here on a weekday. Love their Sunday Brunch Buffets. Surprise to see that they also had a buffet for lunch. All of there food is delicious. My waiter even made suggestions regarding the different selections. Will come again if visiting on a weekday.

Cozy Spot Overlooking Montgomery Field

By Susie1028 |

This is a very unique and memorable restaurant in San Diego. It overlooks the municipal airport Montgomery Field. The building itself is a replica of a World War I French farmhouse decorated with fascinating military memorabilia, antiques, and aviation relics. The menu is steakhouse fair with beef and seafood: steaks, prime rib, lobster tail, fresh fish, rack of lamb, salad, chicken, pasta, and desserts. I loved the french onion soup and crab cakes. They also have a separate bar area, outdoor patios, a very popular Happy Hour, and banquet facilities.

Great party venue!

By Gay N |

My mom's 85th birthday party was held here, and everything was perfect! Rachel the party planner spent a lot of time prior to and that day to make sure all went well. The 2 servers were great, food was fancy, and the view of the runway was very cool! They do offer a small room in addition to the larger one that held 60 comfortably but snug.

Sunday brunch with history

By mynahbird1 |

94th Aero is full of rich history. The decor will make you feel like you've stepped into time, you will also hear actual WWI radio communication while visiting the restroom. Time memorabilia are displayed throughout the restaurant and even the back patio. Aside from history they offer an amazing Sunday brunch! Omelet station, carving station, fruits, salads, entrees, desserts and other breakfast fare...not to mention free flowing champagne! For $30 you can't go wrong! Service is good. Yes it's a little on the pricey side but where can you get an amazing Sunday brunch, free flowing champagne and all that history? And lots of free parking. You won't be disappointed.

A disastrous embarrassing New Years Eve dinner

By Diane E |

I'll start by saying I've been to this restaurant before and it was quite good. However not on New Years Eve! We had six out-of-town guests and decided on this restaurant for New Years Eve. Our party was 8 people with a reservation for 6.30pm. It was not busy at that time. We ordered our food, received our salads, appetizer etc. and then had to wait 1 hour for the entrees which were ALL cold! We sent them back, waited another 30 minutes, received only 6 entrees, all cold again! We ate a tiny bit of it as we were all hungry. About another 15 minutes went by and the other 2 people got their meals, cold again! It was unbelievable. We called for the manager who wanted to charge $137... for what? They ended up charging $57 for the drinks which I thought was disgusting for such a fiasco, not to mention how embarrassing it was. I emailed them after and sent a letter...they never even had the decency to respond. If I could give no stars I would ... it was a disaster and we all left hungry!

NOT AS GOOD AS THEY USED TO BE

By Steven C |

My wife loves the 94th Aero Squadron restaurant locations and we have been to this location three times or so over the past few years. While our prior visits were pricey but overall very good, on this occasion our experience was just pricey with very poor service. The quality of the food was just average at best and our server was abrupt and dismissive. He kept slamming plates and menus about the table and when he spilled an entire carafe of red wine on my wife's dress, all he could manage to say was that he would get her some soda water. Later, the server did make a half hearted apology and the manager came by later to offer to dryclean my wife's dress however, there were no offers to discount our bill or to give her a free menu item. As we were trying to pay our bill, the server did bring a very small slice of cheesecake that he sent home with us for free however, he didn't ask us if we wanted it (neither of us like restaurant or 'store bought' cheesecakes). The whole attitude of the staff was like, 'Oh well, we spilled some wine, you'll get over it.' On prior visits the service was impeccable and your every need was met. On this occasion we felt like they just wanted us to order, eat, pay, and get out. I am not inclined to come back on our next visit to the area.

Yummy Food!

I really enjoy the Cobb Salad that they serve here. I always think I should try other menu items, but then I go back to this wonderful salad.

Christmas buffet

By pa_des30 |

For price this is a great buffet. I would recommend sitting outdoors - more lighted and fresh air then the dining area- quarters were cramped for the buffet. Food was good - not the best but good options. crab leg made it worthwhile. Biggest disappointment: no breakfast/ egg and omelet options for a buffet :( wasn’t expecting that. .. out waitress was great and additional mimosas were not too costly. Just wish they had breakfast items to choose from !!

AN ABSOLUTE JOKE

If plan on going here, especially for a buffet, DON'T! I just left the MOTHER'S DAY BRUNCH and it's a complete S***T SHOW. The biggest waste of of $400 I've ever spent. It would have been more enjoyable to set fire 4 $100 bills and watch them burn... Food was crap a lot of if frozen pre-made garbage (that you could pick up at any grocer). This place is not well organized for operating a buffet. Nor do they have a floor plan that is conducive to operating a buffet. If they tell you they can accommodate food allergies for people that have them, they can not. You just run with luck. Because the staff including management don't know what is actually in many of the dishes. The only time I've ever been to a buffet and they serve prepackage individually dessert and drinks. I personal stopped and talked people waiting in line to get in an told them 'What a Joke this place is.' SPEND YOU MONEY SOME OTHER PLACE...
