This place is a bit of a Janus; when they're "on", the food is very good bordering on excellent. When they aren't, they're barely average. The porterhouse, which I've had multiple times, seems to always be good here. The same goes for their carrots, spinach, and bread. The scotch selection is also serviceable. Everything else, however, is up to chance. Now, the prices here are quite good, so I'm always willing to take the risk. Just think of the Crusader talking to Indiana Jones, and hope you have "chosen wisely".

Restaurant is family friendly. Little ones in high chair accepted. Good steaks. However, the price for beef items a bit high for the quality of the meat.

I've been thinking about whether to write this review or not and finally decided this experience should be told to future potential customers. ALC has been my favorite steak house in Austin since it's founding in 1993. It was my go to place for celebrations, and we raved about it to all our friends. Knowing how I felt about it, two very good friends even gave me a gift certificate to ALC as a thank you for doing some work for their organization. When new friends moved to town, we invited them to meet us for dinner at ALC. That dinner took place in June, 2016. It was one of the most embarrassing and unsatisfying dinners I've ever had and much below what I remember as ALC's formerly impeccable service. I did not say much that night in part because we had new friends with us and I didn't want to make any kind of scene. But after sleeping on it and thinking about the experience, I wrote to the manager and the owners with a detailed story about the evening. I asked for them for another gift card to use at a future dinner at ALC. And they refused. To their credit, they did apologize for the terrible service, but frankly that was not enough. After spending over $200 for dinner that in my case was partially inedible, at a place the supposed quality of ALC, I wanted them to want me to come back for another meal. Apparently they didn't agree. The customer experience is no longer important to ALC owners or managers and that is not ok with me for a restaurant that thinks it's a fine dining steakhouse. Here's a brief overview of the offending evening. We arrived for our reservation and were seated in a very noisy small room in the back (only 4 tables fit in this room). We could hardly hear each other. The noise just echoed off the walls. The place was crowded and we understood that it was just our bad luck to be seated in the small room. It was clearly foreshadowing the type of dinner we were about to have, but we were excited to be there and didn't heed the warning. First the good news. We started with the Shiner Bock Mushrooms and they were really good. This is a 'do not miss' dish at this place. My husband had been raving about the chopped steak, and that was his game plan for dinner. Our guests asked the server about the specials and mentioned they were thinking about the chopped steak, at which time the server said "I would not get the chopped steak. It's really just a big hamburger." Well that embarrassed my husband, of course. But he went ahead and ordered the chopped steak, as did the husband of our guests. They both enjoyed it, despite the faux-pas of the server. The wife of our guests didn't order it. She changed to the special pork chop, and said afterwards that it was good, but the chopped steak (which she tasted) was much better. I ordered a steak, and asked for it to be cooked to a pink color. The server seemed confused and he asked if that was medium. I replied that I preferred pink, which usually was medium to the well side. I didn't know what the kitchen would call it, but I didn't want it too red/rare or too brown/well done. The steak I got was part perfect but mostly red and rare...and I was not able to eat most of it. The waiter didn't even notice or ask if it was cooked to the right temperature. Side dishes of cooked carrots and spinach used to come with the steak and they were always a highlight of the dinner. No longer--there is a list of choices and you get one. For my side dish, I asked about the Brussel Sprouts, one of my favorite veggies, and something I had not had at ALC before. The server told me they were flash fried and delicious. So I ordered them. They came out raw and inedible. We ordered salads w/ dressing on the side to start. Again, the server must not have been paying attention as the salads came out drenched in dressing. After our dinner, we ordered coffee and dessert. We got both in a timely manner (a good thing!), but we had to flag down the server several times for coffee refills. He was no where to be seen. Never, throughout our entire evening, did we see a manager or any other person in charge. No one was around to see if guests were having a good dinner. Now, under normal circumstances, in a less affluent restaurant, most of these issues would have been just 'business as usual'. But ALC was always a place where the service was impeccable, we were made to feel important and cared for, and the food was beyond good. Not that night. I'm really disappointed that the service was mediocre at best, no manager in sight to visit us and see how we were doing, food (in my case) was not edible and the server didn't even notice, and a room that was so noisy we had to yell across the table to be heard. That's why I decided to write the management and ask for a credit for another try. I have never asked for a 'refund' on a dinner before and was reluctant to do so. Hearing "No" was just a final slap across the face. Apparently the management doesn't care that a long time customer had a bad meal. That's just my bad luck and their new 'business as usual.' So, a warning to future ALC customers...the service and the quality can be great at ALC. But then again you might get an experience like we did. Are you willing to risk embarrassment and $200++ per meal on that uncertainty? Certainly not with important guests or business associates along.

The price of the 6 oz filet did not match the quality of the meat served, the snow peas in sesame oil were soaked past soggy, baked potato was overcooked...salad and bread were great! The cost of wine by glass matched Australian restaurant prices. The atmosphere at ALC needs an update.

A very nice restaurant and slightly more upmarket. A very good menu and they had a Sunday special which they donate 5% to a n animal home. The food was excellent and the wait staff were was very good. Very accommodating with my Lactose intolerance and allowed me to share my dessert.

When I said I wanted a good steak dinner, I was expecting to sit at a picnic table with a big slab of meat hanging off my plate. This place is so cool! Very eclectic and trendy but the steaks are wonderful! Grill lines charred on the outside with tender and juicy inside. I usually order medium rare but this came out medium and was terrific. Had flash fried spinach with parmesan cheese. Again not what I expected but really tasty. Wait staff was timely and attentive. Best chimichurri sauce that I can remember! Very deceiving from the outside but do go in and try it!

Ihave visited this location many times. The staff is friendly and the food is awsome. The cheesecake is to die for. I go here at least once a month for the lunch special.

We had a nice weekend in Austin and decided to try a new place. Did not know what to expect, which can be a good and not so good experience. Below is a summary. Setting: Kind of Blue (paint scheme) and relaxing - B Service: Polite - B Starter: Mushrooms - B Main: Chopped Steak was reference quality - A Desert: Pecan Tart was very good - B A very nice experience and worth a visit when traveling to Austin.

Escargot was the best we've had in Texas. Salads were good, side of truffle mac n' cheese awful, Brussel sprouts good, garlic mashed potatoes good. We ordered the Tomahawk steak ($120) and it was flavorless and presentation lacking. I do not recommend this place. Service and food just wasn't worth our time and money.

I love a good steak, and this place came highly recommended. I had the small filet (ordered medium), side of bernaise with the matchstick fries.. The steak came out more of a mid-rare, but was delicious so I didn't send it back. I couldn't eat it fast (yet slow) enough! The sauce was really good, and the fries were cooked perfectly. That being said. The fries were S A L T Y. I had extra sauce so I tossed the fries with that, and it helped a lot. The steak was seared pretty black, so they must have been cooking it over extra high heat to think that was medium. Also, I don't think the steak was worth 40. 30, maybe. The location itself: Parking can be fun, very small lot. Inside it's quite dark, seems like it would be a good place to go on a date or something. There are larger tables, and what looked like a party room, but the overall ambiance of the place screamed "Intimate". Server was good, not exceptional, not awful, but good. Wine list is on an iPad. Interesting When the bill comes, it's in a case that has an android tablet so you can rate your experience on their own app right then and there. Even lets you get a $20 coupon for next visit if you put in your email address (good to have a throwaway address for such things).. But, it never came! I think I'd go back if I was in town, as long as it's not my money paying.

The bartender was a bit lost about making a standard martini but after some coaxing managed to do a decent job. And I have always been dubious about "wedge salads" but they keep turning up on menu after menu and suggested so I had yet another one here and it was different in that they use Romaine instead of Iceberg and they did a decent job on it. Appetizers looked more interesting than main courses so I tried two. The crab cakes were good just not great--but the smoked jalapeno remoulade was excellent--and the "Buffalo style" lamb chops just did not work (I would suggest a celery base and less sauce) but an interesting concept. Service at the bar was scattered as several different people showed up to do varying things and I never did understand who was my actual "server" but all were very nice and personable.

We wanted something authentic to Austin....not a chain and we got it! The restaurant has a very nice feel and look...a neighborhood gem. Both the service and the food was excellent. The ambiance is lively but quaint. Felt welcome from the moment we walked in....great experience.

To start, Austin Land & Cattle is a very good Austin steakhouse, and I've sent many of my employees here on rewards and they have loved it every time, begging to go back, even when offered other more expensive restaurants, so I had to try it for myself. My wife and I celebrated our anniversary there and the servers seated us in a quiet part of the restaurant, and we had a very romantic dinner. While the server wasn't extremely attentive, he had a rather large party he was attending to as well and they were very needy of the server. On the Starters: To start we ordered the shrimp cocktail, and it was excellent, the "shrimp" were very large and absolutely delicious, they were paired with a spicy tomatillo sauce and a cocktail sauce, they said it was made in house, it tasted great, but I wouldn't have known the difference. On the Mains: My wife and I both had steaks, my wife ordered a sirloin steak cooked medium and she absolutely loved it. I however was very disappointed with my steak, a T-Bone ordered blue. The T-bone was smothered in bleu cheese, but perhaps the server was confused what "blue" meant, but I enjoyed the bleu cheese sauce. However, what I received was not a t-bone steak, I received a bone in NY Strip. I'm unsure if that's common here, but I expected a T-bone, and while the steak was quite large it was not a T-bone, even though it was on the T-Bone, there was only 1/2 a T-Bone. As well my steak was burned for about 2 mm around the outside edge, but was nicely rare on the inside. It's possible to cook a steak blue without drying out the outside of it, but ALC didn't appear to know how to handle that. On the sides: The mac'n'cheese side was fantastic. The garlic mashed potatoes however were subpar, the texture seemed off for steakhouse mashed potatoes. All in all, it seems like perhaps ALC isn't super consistent based on my experience compared to my employees, I hope to go back again soon and give them another shot, and for the price we received a wonderful dinner, but I was quite disappointed in my steak. Maybe next time I should just stick with the Filet.

Was in town on business , I got two recommendations from my Hotel. The first was Eddie V’s in Downtown Austin. That was outstanding. Food , service and atmosphere . Then they suggested ALC. one of Austin’s oldest steakhouses. I said sounds great . When I pulled up to the restaurant I was wondering if o had the right address , it did not look like a fancy steak house The decor inside had an old school almost roadhouse feel to it. It was nice but not posh at all. I started with a burrata salad that was ok. Not great but not bad . I wanted to order fish but the waiter convinced me ALC has the best steak in Austin . I took his advice. , I ordered a filet mignon one touch under medium. With flash fried kale and asparagus. The kale was so greasy I had to go wash my hands and face after the meal. The first steak I was brought was overcooked and not tender. I sent it back. The next steak was good but having to through explaining why I did not like the first steak and waiting for my new steak to be cooked killed my overall enjoyment of the meal. My waiter was very friendly and apologetic about my first steak. . I Was not impressed ,much better choices for that price range. Nothing really stood out , the second steak was good but not out of this world for $60.00 . I think it needs a bit of sprucing up .I did not get the feel of having a higher end dinner .

We've been celebrating our anniversary here for several years now. We have never had a bad meal, if fact, it has always been excellent. It is always a special night out and topped off with the Creme Brulee and their delicious coffee. This year's New Years Eve was no exception. The turf and surf were great as was the service provided by Joshua. Of course we will be back next year on New Years Eve and some times in between on special occasions.

Service was great, the wine list was good, and the sides were as very good as usual. However, the promise of a discounted prime rib special for Sunday night wasn't delivered. The beef was, maybe, select; certainly not prime. My medium done-ness order was more rare than even medium rare. We'll return to the restaurant based on many very good past experiences. But the Sunday prime rib special won't be one of those experiences.

My husband and I visited ALCC tonight for the first time. It was my birthday (Halloween) and we were scheduled to go there last night for my husband's birthday but had to cancel. We have been to many of the area chain steakhouses but chose ALCC because it is promoted as Not being a chain but a "family owned steakhouse" . My husband wrote when making the reservation that it was my birthday so anything special would be appreciated. Nothing was ever said about this and we did not mention it as a larger table near us was making a lot of noise and a big deal over one of their party having a birthday tonight. We were greeted somewhat warmly by the hostess and seated as soon as we walked in to the restaurant. In a few minutes our server "Michael" walked up and asked if we wanted anything to drink - no small talk or welcome to ALCC or questions about if this was a special occasion or anything else. We received our drinks, warm bread and butter and Michael came back to take our order. No recommendations except to say the steaks were what the restaurant was known for. We ordered the escargot appetizer which was good - not anything special but good, a romaine lettuce salad (served with jarred, not fresh, red peppers which was disappointing) and two 10 oz. ribeye steaks with sides. My steak was fabulous - cooked medium rare to perfection and seasoned perfectly but my side of Truffled Bacon Mac & Cheese left something to be desired. It had no bacon in it that I could see or taste and was only lukewarm at best. My husband ordered the thin fries which he liked. When we finished eating our waiter took our plates and asked if we wanted dessert. I told him I didn't think so that we were going home to have birthday cake (hint, hint) but he simply produced our ticket saying he was prepared if we said no to dessert. We paid our bill and left and were told a feeble "Thank you" as we walked out of the restaurant. The restaurant itself seemed a little dated but it was the service or lack thereof that will keep us from returning to this restaurant. You have a lot of choices in a city such as Austin and I am disappointed that for this special occasion we chose AL & CC. We will definitely not go back ourselves and will not recommend it to anyone else.

A colleague and I went here for dinner after asking around for a good steakhouse. We were seated promptly and greeted with a friendly waiter. We ordered the shrimp cocktail that comes with a traditional cocktail sauce and a southwestern-style cocktail sauce that was delicious. The steaks we got were equally tasty!

Simple, straightforward steak - that's what I look for when I eat in Texas. And ALC has it in spades. I attended a business dinner for 10 people and every single one of us rated this place five stars. The service was attentive and professional and the atmosphere was fairly low-key. I ordered a filet mignon with chimmichurri sauce. The sauce was bright green with fresh herbs spiked with citrus and garlic. Fantastic! The matchstick fries were perfectly done, and a perfect accompaniment. I would eat here again in a heartbeat!

The service is very good and the waiters are very attentive. Try the Shiner Bock battered mushrooms for an appetizer. The Rib eye steaks are prepared very well, and the cheesecake with an oreo cookie crust is perfect for desert. This is an excellent place where you can talk and enjoy your meal.

Been here several times 2013, 2014 and I am back here today.. Service is awesome. Laid back atmosphere. Ok wine list. Many many beers to choose from. The steaks are consistently awesome. I see many comments here about it being pricey. I guess that's kind of relative having just been to Chicago and New York I find prices here quite reasonable. It is a few blocks out of downtown Austin so I can understand that by local standards it may be a little on the high side given the location but let me tell you: once you eat here you won't feel short-changed. We had a a large bottle of San Pellegrino, one glass of Aussie wine, 2 bottles of imported beer, 2 apps, 1 small filet mignon, one 14 oz NY Strip, 3 side dishes and one desert and the total before tips came to 147 dollars.

Our 3 couple bunch of "empty-nesters" enjoyed this place for dinner. The men all ordered steak and a side or two, while the women all ordered veggie sides. We were ALL happy with our choices. The wine list was decent, and the service was great. I think we ended the meal with a shared dessert or two...me, well, I opted for what I thought was a mint on the way out the door, to my delectable surprise it was a wonderful key lime pie tasting hard candy---LOVED that!

We had great steaks, service was perfect (thanks Mike!!) and dessert really hit the shot. Easy parking in free lot.

This steakhouse is a traditional Austin-style spot with relaxing pleasant atmosphere. Although ALC serves mostly steaks I wanted to try their famous "Creole Style Gulf Snapper." Big mistake! The fish was undercooked, smelling and tasting badly, so I did not eat it. Since we were in a large group I did not want to spoil the atmosphere and did not complain to the waiter. I can understand that it must be difficult for a steakhouse to bother with seafood, but if it is so, why to keep it in the menu? As a final note, I give low grades for the waiter who removed my untouched plate without any comment about uneaten food.

We had the worst table in the restaurant despite being seated when the restaurant was basically empty. My wife's filet was basically raw. The outside was cooked, but the inside was cold. Our server acted overwhelmed, but didn't seem to have many tables. I haven't been happy with ALC the last few times I've been, but this was the worst experience ever. Will not return.

Don't be fooled by the generic strip mall location. Interior is decent but the food is wonderful. Reasonable too! Great steaks and service. Good wine choices.

It's been a year or so since my wife and I have eaten at Austin Land & Company and we noticed that something's change. The food was not as good as before nor the service as special either. Always a favorite, our lamb chop appetizers were very tough and the waiter did not bring a plate to eat them on. The bread roll was not fresh and had no taste. The tomato's in the tomato and onion salad were a little mushy. My wife's seared tuna was overcooked which we should have returned. I ordered the NY Strip med-rare and it was served on the medium side. Considering the price, we expected a lot more.

After a day of driving and arriving to Austin, this restaurant was recommended. We ordered the smoked sirloin. It was similar to a brisket which was not what we expected but it was delicious. We enjoyed our salads and hot bread. The loaded baked potato was wonderful. The service was fast even though we arrived bear closing. The service was excellent.

We went here as a group of 25. The steaks were from $36-$48 depending what cut. Then you have your drink, salad, steak, vegetable & dessert (each sold separatly) and it came to $84. I did go all the way and everything was perfect. The service was extremely efficient, down to the tab. For 25 separate billings, that was a pleasent surprise. Parking wasn't bad either. Then as we left the owner or manager was at the door. I love supporting local and it was over the top great. I am not very liberal with my 5 stars and this was a 6.

We recently had dinner here with out of town guests for a great Texas steak dinner. The steaks were just OK. Two of us ordered the exact same steak, but his came out blood rare. The waiter seemed more interested in pushing drinks on us than our dining experience and was not very attentive. I've had better steak dinners at Outback for half the cost. I don't mind paying a lot for fine dining, but ALC is not the place.

We had a very enjoyable dinner with another couple. Very casual atmosphere, but not so loud that you can’t enjoy conversation. We enjoyed the appetizer of “Vegetable Medley” and our steaks were cooked to perfection and very good! (My husband and I split the large Filet) The sides are terrific, and good wine list. One side of your choice comes with your steak. We thought very good food for the value while not quite being as expensive as a high end steak house. We will definitely go back.

We ate in the bar/lounge area to take advantage of Happy Hour prices on both drinks and food. Service was excellent and the food outstanding. I started with Oysters "Tex-afeller" which were really good. Followed by ahi seared tuna on a salad with balsomic dressing. Very, very good and cooked to perfection. My wife had the '"black and blue salad" which she loved. This is salad with chunky blue cheese dressing topped with sliced steak cooked to your order. The steak was very flavorful and moist and went well with the salad. We split a pecan tart topped with ice cream and were glad we did not order it for one person because it was really a small pie. House wine is very good ($6/glass at HH) and the margarita was good. We will definitely eat here again on our next Austin visit.

Opens at 5 pm for drinks ... Steaks at 5:30. Hand-cut, aged beef, Texas style! The service was excellent. A little on the pricey

First class steakhouse. Nice yet casual vibe. Friendly staff. We had a delicious dinner and drinks. Highly recommend. We were running late trying to catch the bat show, which never happened before dusk, and they very graciously accommodated our change. Nice atmosphere, although our group may have been a bit rambunctious for the setting, after spending the afternoon at the Continental Club. Sorry for that.

While in Austin, a friend from N.Y. Recommend A.L.C. For a good steak...So we took a cab to see if he was right ? From the outside I may not have stopped, but inside is very, nice, tables are set for fine dinning and that is what we got! started with appetizers ( very nice ) warm rolls delivered, excellent drinks, super service, and a sirloin steak that was cooked perfectly! All around very very good. Maybe not the best ever, but top 5 steak! Would return when in Austin,TX. Again.

We had pork chops and a New York strip with mashed potatoes, large fries, flash fried spinach and a bottle of Californian Chardonnay. Our opinion on the flash fried spinach was mixed but you can't blame the restaurant for that. The shared raspberry tart was a nice ending to a good dinner. We can definitely recommend this place for visitors to Austin.

Took my wife and daughter out to AL&C the other night for some full on red blooded fare. We were not disappointed! I had a classic ribeye and the 2 girls both Filet Mignons. All quality cuts, chargrilled to perfection. Side serves were generous too!

We visited here on a tour of the U.S. In September. Chosen from Tripadvisor as it was near to our hotel. We had driven past earlier in the day and as others have commented, it does not look to be anything special from the outside. However our meal was very enjoyable, we started with a drink in the bar - very pleasant. There was a warm welcome and the dining room was also very nice. Our server was great, as was the ribeye steak. My only slight disappointment was the sweet, a mixed berry sundae, which was lacklustre.

I took one of my best clients to the ALC Steaks and was blown away by both the food and service. Whenever I am in Austin, I will make sure to dine at this outstanding restaurant.

We were disappointed in the food. I orders a rib eye becuase they are always tender - not here. Not sure how you make a Rib Eye at medium rare tough but they managed. My garlic mashed potatoes tasted good but the consistency was runny - not thick and fluffy like mashed potatoes should be. My husband had the tuna. The tuna was good quality but the little sauce it had was bland. The waiter recommended the pecan pie - don't bother. The crust was dry and I didn't eat it. The filling was ok but the vanilla ice cream was a cheap store brand and added nothing to the dessert.

I used to love this place. Now good luck getting your steak cooked correctly. It is one thing if you spend 50 bucks on your meal but when you average 100 bucks a person, that steak needs to be perfect and the bread should NOT take 20 minutes followed by the butter 15 minutes after that. This place used to be an awesome place to celebrate big events and have romantic dates. Now it is shabby, the service is slow and unreliable and the food is inconsistent. If there are only 2 in your party you might have a shot at what ALC once was, and awesome meal with awesome service. If you are 4 or more, their poorly trained staff will not be able to handle it...and it will cost you 500 bucks. Makes me sad because this was my go to for a stress free wonderful meal.

One of the best meals I’ve had in Austin! Casual place but our steak dinner was finer than that of any of the fine dining steak houses. Recommend the escargot, ribeye ALC style with bearnaise sauce and the pecan pie for dessert. Will definitely be going back!

This is a place I really enjoy. They have awesome steak sandwiches! And they have this massive porterhouse no man should ever attempt a second time. It is one of the best I've eaten. The experience is nice. A little stiff collared but very nice.

I had not been to Austin Land and Cattle Steakhouse in years and had no idea why. I decided to make a reservation and see how they compared to some of the other downtown steakhouses. Although the décor might be slightly less than the national chains, the food and drinks were just as good, if not better. Also, not having to valet park or hunt for a parking spot downtown made getting into and out of the restaurant very easy. I recommend that you try Austin Land and Cattle.

My son and I just left from having a late dinner. We got there just before their last seating and were treated like it didn't matter what time we got there. They welcomed us like family. Rachel came over with a great big "welcome ya'll" and a fantastic smile. Which was awesome. We started with the escargot in garlic butter. LOVE IT! Then the both of us had the 6oz filet (I had mine ALC Style, which is bleu cheese & peppercorn crusted) and they were perfectly cooked. Our sides were the green chili creamed corn & the bacon truffle mac n cheese, which we shared. Fantastic to say the least. The service was terrific. Rachel was on point from beginning to end. I'll definitely request her in the future (although they're all friendly and professional). I've been coming to Austin for 15 years or so. I was finally introduced to ALC about 2 years ago. I'm here about evert other month and this place has become a must every time I'm here. It will continue to be as well. If there were 10 stars, they'd get 11. Until next time...........!

I was disappointed by this restaurant. I ordered a small steak with baked potato and the potato was more favorable than the steak! The steak was decent size, but tough. I had a hard time cutting it and even harder time chewing it. The salad was iceberg lettuce mix, quite disappointing.

As a local, I forego the steak chains and opt for ALC, a locally owned, unique Austin landmark. Steaks are superb and equal to or better than the big steakhouses (Perry's, Sullivan's, Ruth's Chris, etc.) and the atmosphere and friendly service are so superior that there really is no choice. I take clients, colleagues, legislators and out-of-town visitors here, and always make a hit.

Went here after a seminar with 5 colleagues. Managed to get a reservation and they even accommodated two extra guest arriving later. Steaks are cooked to perfection, even though we ordered 8 different pieces. Waiters know how to deliver excellent service without being too intrusive. A lot of wine options and ... take the cheesecake to finish it off.

In my opinion one of the best steak houses in ATX, the best vodka martini and filet mignon you can find. The staff is attentive and know how to make you want to keep coming back ! Beats any franchise steak house I have been to.

Maybe not the best steak in town, but definitely the best value for your money! Still not cheap, but affordable. You want a good texan steak in Austin and don't want to spend >100$ for 2 persons? Go here!

After comparing reviews of steak places in Austin, we gambled on ALC and lost. Nice, unassuming place: simple decor, not much to look at. Our waiter was friendly and gave us great service. But we didn't feel the food was worth the price. My spinach salad with portobello and warm bacon vineagrette was bland despite being smothered with diced bacon. It was a huge salad, a ridiculous amount of bacon and no flavor. The Caesar equally unimpressive. The bread rolls were hot and buttery and delicious. The alcohol menu is on an iPad, very chic, and allows for regular updates. I ordered the kale side dish and couldn't eat it due to a heavy hand with the lemon juice. There were better results with the broccoli and veg kebab sides. Each of our steaks were nice, but unremarkable: I could have cooked them at home and gotten this result. There was nothing about this evening that warranted the price tag. I wish we'd chosen another venue.

Visiting Austin we dined at this highly recommended steakhouse. Bar scene looked awesome. We were seated in the restaurant and enjoyed Cabernets to complement steaks. Hostess sat three loud drunks next to us. Not fun. The dining room was pretty empty. Our waiter avoided them and us as much as possible. Food was OK not the Texas steak experience we anticipated. Filet Mignon was good, New York Strip ordered medium arrived rare. Sent it back and it was returned medium. Sides were generous and good. Overall the steaks were not the same taste and quality we've experience in New York and Chicago steakhouses.

We stayed in Austin for a week for the Austin Food & Wine Festival which was cancelled due to the torrential rains. We wanted to have a good steak for dinner and each night we opted for something else for dinner. On our last night in town, we said we had to have some Texas beef before we left. We also wanted to see the bats on Congress bridge and time got away from us. We took an Uber to ALC steaks because we planned to go to 6th Street again before we left. We opted to sit at the bar because of time. The bartender was very friendly and made us one of the best margaritas I have ever had in my life! We choose the bar menu and ordered the Green Chilie Frito Pie, Beef Sashimi and the steak sampler. The Frito Pie was out of this world. Not like your middle school or high school snack bar offering. The green chilies, banana peppers and chili con carne with Tilamook cheddar was the perfect combination. There was no heat (spice) to speak of, and the chips remained crispy. We finished the entire plate. What can I say about the Beef Sashimi (Carpaccio) except that it was great quality meat sliced wafer thin with Ponzu and a thinly sliced jalapeno. There were 5 or 6 pieces of beef and my husband had never eaten carpaccio before but he's and adventurous eater. The beef melted in our mouths. Full of meaty, beef flavor. We opted not to eat the carpaccio with the jalapeno so we could fully experience the beef flavor. The steak sampler was giant hunks of filet, ribeye and sirloin (2-3 oz. each). We opted for the bernaise sauce with it. I was a little concerned about the richness of the sauce with the beef, but the cut of the beef paired with the tarragon was a great pairing. The beef cuts came out perfectly cooked medium rare and well seasoned. Overall, the bar atmosphere, bartender service and quality of the food was exceptional.

Our family (12) gathered for a post-graduation meal at Austin Land and Cattle and had a wonderful meal. Highly recommend the dry-aged NY Strip, Crabcakes and Tres Leches cake. Good wine selection.

We visited this restaurant last month for a family celebration. The exterior was a bit iffy, in a less than inspiring strip mall area, but on entry the interior was inviting. Nicely decorated for Christmas, warm and welcoming. Despite a reservation specifying a high chair we had to wait a while for that. The waiter however was helpful, polite and attentive. We all had steaks, various cuts, and salads and a variety of sides. The Caesar salads were undressed on arrival, which I thought was weird for a restaurant in this price range. The waiter however brought dressing (a bit odd with hot pepper, well it is Texas) and we were not charged for them. The steaks were excellent, Texas sized portions, cooked as ordered, and supplied a tasty lunch next day. Prices in my opinion were quite high. But I am not familiar enough with the market to say if they were excessive.

Told the waiter it was one of my favorite meals of all time! Had Creole chicken with garlic mashers. Sounds like an everyday order but it far surpassed an everyday meal!

We had a 9pm reservation. We left at 9:30, when they were still unable to seat is and couldn't give us an estimate of when we would have a table. I wouldn't count on them for any special occasions.

The outside looks like it is made for roaches. Opening the door doesn't improve anything. It is dingy and dark enough to ineffectively try and hide dinginess. That is where the negative comments start. It is a steak house and food is superb. Can't speak about every member of wait staff but those I have experienced are top notch. At least as notch as it can get in college town where turnover must be intense. Menu offers the usual steakhouse choices but whatever you order will be cooked to perfection. As will the ala carte sides. Nice portion drink and entrees. So if you go close your eyes until you are seated and you won't notice how dilapidated the place is. The prices are the same as places with up market exterior and interior décor so surely there are NICE steak houses in Austin.

We went there after our 20 hours flight, and we were happy with the service and food. The restaurant was busy but they do their best to take care of everyone, kept the drinks coming and let you know the food is coming. The food is really good, and sweet tea is very good too. They sure do a good job there.

As we had no idea what smoked beef would be, the cook prepared a couple of big pieces to prove. That does not happen very often in a restaurant. All courses were excellent and we shared between the 4 of us so we could prove everything. Great and charming service!!! We had ordered too many courses, so we took the rest home and had nearly enough for the next day:-)

We ate here for dinner on a Thursday evening. The interior was extremely dark, which I really didn't care for. The prices are outrageous for what you get. We waited over an hour for our order and it wasn't that busy inside. And my particular dish, chicken breasts with grilled vegetables, wasn't that tasty. Luckily our meal was paid for by the company. I wouldn't have wanted to waste my own money. The only reason for the average rating was because if our extremely nice server.

ALC steakhouse on Lamar. The Escargot and shrimp cocktail to start were both tasty. Shrimp cocktail sauces were limiting. Ribeye and chicken fried steak were unremarkable. Drinks were good. Not quite a chain but not a fine steak house either. Definitely not fine dining.

Atmosphere is nice without being overly stuffy. Plenty of affordable options on the wine list with about 50 offerings by the glass, most in the 8-12 per glass range. They also generously split the steak for us at no additional charge. The fried mushroom appetizer was solid but could have used a little more seasoning, probably the least impressive part of the meal. We got the 16oz ribeye and it was just excellent, and the truffle mac and cheese and flash-fried spinach were quite good as well.

Dinner for four, last night of vacation. Delicious meal all around. We were pleased to find a local steakhouse over the usual big-city steakhouses. All four steaks cooked perfectly. Good service, good ambience.

My LITTLE fillet @ 40 with mashed potatoes didn't cut it! This restaurant is overpriced with all the add ons that obviously costs the restaurant next to nothing in ingredients is a joke! Think twice before choosing this place unless money and value mean nothing to you!

The restaurant was comfortable, the staff was friendly and attentive without being obnoxious like so many are these days. The food was good. It was just flat out good. It wasn't the best I have ever had by any means but for what they are selling and the prices they are selling it at, it was just a great meal. For the $60 bucks I spent on two people I felt like I certainly got my money's worth and more. I would definitely repeat this restaurant again. This was my first time and I noticed that some are saying they have rebranded and menu was smaller. I will confirm the menu is not extensive, but it's a steak house and they had everything I would want when going to a steakhouse.

Great steaks. Not the cheapest, but you get what you pay for. The service is beyond great. My husband and I rode a motorcycle there in 100 degree heat. Our water glass was never below half. Very good special occasion restaurant.

This restaurant is lovely, so buzzy and a great atmosphere. We went on a Saturday night and it was busy but the staff were fantastic, no major long wait the service was perfect. The steak was so perfectly cooked it melted in your mouth and the cocktails were fab - definately eat here on a visit to Austin

Having just moved to the area, we didn't know what to expect here. We wanted a light supper, and were afraid that a steak house would be too heavy. We were pleasantly surprised. They had lighter dishes and sandwiches, a great atmosphere, and good wait staff. We would definitely return.

Dined with a group for a business dinner in a semi private room. This seems to be a local favorite and was quite packed. The atmosphere was like a local supper club and quite comfortable. The semi private dining room had two tables capable of seating at least 14. I have to admit it was a bit on the noisy side with both tables seated. The service was excellent with Tarik. While I could pick out sparkling, Sauvignon Blanc, and some Cab Sauvignon for our table, the selection was modest but had a reasonable range of wines. They were fairly priced. The appetizer platters were a good choice with 4 selections/person(lamb chop, deep fried mushrooms, shrimp cocktail, and stuffed chilli). They were very good. The rib eye was well seasoned and perfectly cooked to order. I would certainly return as there was something for everyone on the menu.

Our waiter was very attentive. However, the food seemed on the wattery side and my stew was kind of tough.

Austin has several "fancyl Steak Houses, from local to well-known chains but ACL is my favorite, by far. ACL consistently serves the best steaks in Austin in a nice unpretencious restaurant, far from the noise and attitude you might experience at other places. Several of the kitchen staff have been at ACL for over 10 years, that is probably why their food is invariably delicious. I highly recommend ACL if you want an exceptional meal with friends, family or colleagues. (Casual fine dining at around 75 dollars per person)

Great steak (NY 8 oz) good wine, good service, in the meaning that were not stressing you with useless questions every 5 min.

What started out as a nice evening for our group of about 24 turned into chaos at the end of the dinner when the restaurant refused to give us separate checks and we were left to split the bill among ourselves. This was a stressful and disappointing ending to a fairly decent meal, although for a steakhouse there were a number of us who's steaks were not cooked to the right temperature and the rib eye and strip steaks were stringy and kind of tough. Overall I would not recommend this place.

followed trip advisor comments (that I typically not do) and went during Business trip for dinner to that place. appearance from outside is not impressive, you either wonder where you are, but inside, regarding the kithchen, it is Steak at ist best. I had the porterhouse - large, big and juicy, cooked as ordered. I skipped the desert as it was such a nice Steak and I didn't want to spoil the taste with any ordinary stuff like chocolate - sorry about that. So Texas and Steak, that is one of the places to go for

For the money there are better steaks but the service is first class and the atmosphere is classy and elegant. As with most steak houses it is ala carte so come prepared to spend a bundle. Great wine list.

Food was good, fresh, but nothing special. Service was good -- made great suggestions for appetizers for the table. Wine list was limited.

Just a very nice unassuming restaurant I would not have found without local knowledge. It was really excellent food quality with knowledgeable servers and a welcoming feel. Margarita's made just right and good local ales. Very nice.

Very good food in a nice location. The restaurant is pretty big but not too noisy, and has also separate rooms. The meat is amazing: tender, juicy, tasty. The filet mignon simply perfect and the sweet potatoes as well. Good service.

We were a large party of diners, they had us in a room off the side of the restaurant which was dark but cozy...Food was good but the pricing was high for the value....Drinks were also priced high...Service was excellent and friendly....The bathrooms were quirky for a high end restaurant...Needs updating..

If you're looking for that special steak dinner in Austin, ALC has to be on the short list. The 10oz filet was cooked just perfect and mouth-watering. I would pass on the flash-cooked spinach next time. Be prepared to pay top dollar, but it will be a special evening.

we chose it because it was the only decent place open until 10pm on a Sunday night in Austin. But food and service were great.

I recomend Austin Land & Cattle Company located at: 1101 South Mo-Pac / AUSTIN, TX 78746 Rollingwood Dr & Barton Springs Rd, Exit 2244 Amazing meat, very good service, fare price! I'm argentine and my family always asked me if I missed argentine beef...well NOOO! I was in Texas the beef republic! And here you can find a great barbeque grilled with firewood like in Argentina!

My wife and I ate here on April 20 and it was fantastic. The service was superb. Knowledgeable wait staff, good suggestions but not overpowering. The ribeye was tender and cooked perfectly. The baked potato and spinach sides were great. The pecan pie with homemade whipped cream was fabulous. A drink before dinner, a glass of wine with dinner, coffee and an after dinner drink for $175 with 20% tip. This place is a must try if you're in Austin.

We enjoyed a tasty evening meal of ribeye steak and shrimp. The smaller cut isn't as succulent as the full portion (purchased both). The large fried shrimp (3 added on to eat) were juicy and nicely seasoned with the right amount of crunch. The fresh lemonade was quite good. The steaks were well flavored and didn't require any of the many sauces they offer. Service was attentive, Josh did a great job of describing the items and checking on our enjoyment. The ambiance was family friendly and dress casual.

We visited the Austin Land and cattle restaurant for a graduation dinner. The reservation through opentable was smooth. We had to change it a day before the dinner to add people and the manager was very accommodating. The table was in the middle of the restaurant by the Christmas tree and this made fro a festive mood. We tried stuffed mushrooms that were excellent. The steak of the night was ribeye that was cooked nicely. We liked the pimiento corn and chopped brussel sprouts as a side dish and the burbon pecan pie with ice cream was the best finish. Excellent service, for sure. We spend almost three hours there and we will be revisiting.

We entered thru the bar. There was a lively energetic feel. We were seated in a room in the back that was semi isolated. We didn't care, but definitely not the same vibe the bar had. The waiter was efficient, knowledgeable and professional. My cocktail was good, not great. I ordered ribeye with asparagus w chimichurri and a baked potato. My pescatarian wife ordered the tuna. The tuna was huge and served rare - it was perfect in every way. The salad dressing may have had bacon, so that went uneaten. My steak was very good. I ordered the jalapeño horseradish to go along with the steak and it made the meal! It was a Top 10 steak for sure. I'll be trying to replicate the chimichurri sauce when I get home. The waiter recommended a dry Cabernet and it was the perfect companion to my steak- I believe it was called First Press. If you're in Austin this is a can't miss steakhouse. Parking is easy and convenient.

Great service and very good food. The food came a little out of order and the fries needed to be reordered so they were hot, but we really liked the place! The waiter was great, they had IPads on the table to preview the wine list and a buffalo lamb appetizer that was my best bite in a long time (it should not work, but it does). My wife had the surf and turf an the lobster was great and the filet cooked rare as ordered.

I mostly visit ALC for Happy Hour, which runs M-F, 4:00pm to 7:00pm. The service is great, and the HH prices can't be beat for the level of food you get. My favorite (and sometimes I've ordered 2 of them) is the beef sashimi. Served thin-sliced, with a sauce that's savory and deep. Small rings of serrano pepper and green onion completes the beef, and the side salad with crostini is delicious. Second and third favorite appetizers are the steak sampler (3 nice medallions of perfectly-cooked beef with your favorite sauce on the side), and the black & bleu salad. I highly recommend ALC for special occasions and, as the name suggests, the dish to order is steak! Always cooked to perfection, seasoned right, and served with great sides.

ALC offers consistent food quality. Never had a bad steak here. It is always a popular place. The only negative on the most recent visit was slow service (otherwise this would be a 5 star rating). Not sure if they were short staffed, but our waiter was scarcely seen. We were not in a rush and had good company but could have been overly frustrating if we had other plans. Still love this place and will definitely return future trips to A-town.

There were about 75 to 100 in our group, we had the entire restaurant. The food was served buffet style and was excellent. I had grilled salmon, beef, and mashed potato. The servers were great and very attentive. I recommend this restaurant for any group outing. Feeding that many people went smooth with a short wait.

My wife and recently dined here based on reviews in Urban Spoon. Place is very loud. The appetizers were very good. We had the tuna and oysters. Both were outstanding. My wife had a filet mignon and really enjoyed it. I had the ribeye. I ordered it between medium rare and medium. The waiter indicated he completely understood how I wanted it. Well, he obviously didn't. It was very rare. Also it was a very poor cut of meat. Not very tender and fairly tasteless. I should have sent it back. The service was excellent. However I was hoping for a better piece of meat for the price.

This was our first visit and our first time trying a steakhouse in Austin. I think we were a bit too excited to be trying our first steakhouse in Austin that our expectations where high. Self-parking is available in a shared plaza lot. This place is not walking distance to any of Austin's major tourist areas. The inside of the restaurant has dim lighting and each seat seems well situated and comfortable. Service was great and the workers were great. Steak was cooked about right. 4 of us got the ribeye and someone got a T-bone and someone got the salmon. We each had different experiences with the ribeye, possibly because each of us had it prepared differently. I liked the temperature that my ribeye was prepared, but I felt that the cooking flavor and/or natural meat flavor had something missing. My ribeye did taste a little better with the assortment of different side sauce options we ordered. The mac and cheese was good and the flash fried spinach is a nice different side item offering. Overall, > the inside is nice > service is 👍 > location is kinda out of the way > food is average and a bit pricey when considering taste and cut I wouldn't dine here again with other Austin steakhouses still on our list to try.

No chain steakhouse here....AL&C is a go-to neighborhood restaurant. Steaks are always spot-on.....lobster is fab (just remind them not to leave it on the grill too long) and we CRAVE their escargot w/hot rolls and the ahi seared tuna. Oysters rockefeller have a bite to them....oh so good! And, how about that Truffle Mac&Cheese!!!! Great location with a comfy, low-lighting interior.

I've lived in Austin for almost 15 years and have only driven by this spot. Not because I've not been interested but just because usually there are other restaurants that come to mind. Boy was I blown away that I've not eaten there previously. The 22-ounce bone-in Ribeye was out of this world. I also had the asparagus with chimichurri and was amazing. Highly recommend this spot to locals and visitors.

After reading other reviews and getting recommendations from UT parents, we went to ALC for the first time to celebrate an event with our UT student. We wanted a high end steak restaurant without the stuffiness. Given the prices and how it is billed, we expected tastier food and were disappointed. Between the 3 of us, we ordered a Caesar salad, Shiner Bock Battered Mushrooms with Chipotle sauce, 10 ounce Filet Mignon Oscar Style (Hollandaise & lump crab), 10 ounce Filet Mignon ALC Style (blue cheese & peppercorn), 22 oz Bone In Ribeye, 1 regular mashed potato, 1 garlic mashed potato, and 1 match stick fries, and 3 soft drinks. Here's the good, bad, and the ugly: The good: awesome crusty complimentary french bread, great service, soft drinks (reasonable price with refills included), funkiness of restaurant (looks like it may have been a Mexican restaurant at one point), the wine list (was on an iPad, which I thought was a nice touch), free parking...and not being forced to valet park. The bad: both kinds of mashed potatoes were bland and the garlic mashed potatoes had too much garlic, all three steaks were slightly off (mine was supposed to be medium and was medium well, husbands was supposed to be medium-rare and was burnt on one end and raw on the other, son's was pretty rare around the bone). When I asked the server about my steak he admitted that it was not medium and asked me to cut into the middle -- there was a little pink there but it just didn't have the melt-in-your-mouth experience like a Taste of Texas's 6 oz filet. He asked if I wanted it redone, but I said no as we didn't have time. The ugly: Overall it was an OK meal...but one I would expect at Salt Grass (which I'm not a huge fan of), not at a high end steak restaurant where I paid $225 for 3 people with no alcohol (which reminds me...I had to ask the server to remove the glass of wine that we were accidentally charged for).

We visited the Austin Land and Cattle on IH-35 and 290 dinner was exceptional the steaks were great made perfect to order the baked potatoes were amazing everything was great including the drinks the waiter was on time and friendly and courteous and extremely helpful, friendly atmosphere we will return

Horrible steak, we came because we saw the reviews in different local sites. Bad quality steak, and not even cooked correctly. I asked for a medium rear and I got medium- medium well. Once I returned it they brought me back a pretty much rear steak where even the corners were cold

We had a reservation for 15 on a Friday night. Our table was ready and waiting for us when we arrived. Our server was very attentive and knew the menu inside and out. You could imagine all the running around someone might have to do for a group that size, but he was on top of things the entire time. Our table order most items on the menu between us from the Ribeye to the Filet to the Lobster Tails. Most of the side orders were ordered as well. Can't say that there was a single item anyone had any issue with at all. I personally ordered the Filet Oscar Style and it was cooked to perfection and delicious. I would definitely return here when I'm back in Austin.

It's too bad that all of our food was so amazingly salty because this seemed to be a nice place. the ambiance was nice. Our service was great but holy cannoli, do these people like SALT. both our steaks were way over-salted, even our side vegetables were super salty. I swear I could feel my fingers morphing into overstuffed sausages as we sat there. Somebody needs to talk to the salt guy in the back. Oh well. there are lots of other steak places in Austin and we'll just keep checking those out instead.

My fiancé and I recently spent the evening celebrating with my parents our recent engagement. We couldn't have picked a better place to enjoy a delicious meal together. The place was not loud and although there were two tables nearby, I didn't hear one word of their conversation. Our waitress was so pleasant and handled all the questions we had like a pro! The meats were all cooked perfectly. The grilled vegetable kabob was lacking flavor. But overall that's such a small part to our overall meal!

The first time I went solo and had Brenda. The most amazing service ever and my meal exceeded my expectations. The ribeye with a wedge salad. The second time I went with friends and had the worse waiter ever and my pork chops were so hard if I were to have dropped it on the floor it would have went through it. :( I wish I had remembered the waiter's name. Consistency is important.

This is a great steakhouse that is not at all like all the other cookie cutter steakhouses out there like Capitol Grille, Del Frisco's and Ruth's Chris. No overbearing servers pushing sides and deserts. Very fine dining, but low key. Steaks prepared perfectly, great cocktails and wine menu all in a subdued atmosphere. What more could you need? I try to go here every time I'm in Austin.

Haven't been to ALC in a while, but it was good as last visit. Goat cheese stuffed Hatch green chilis are a must appetizer. My 14 oz NY strip perfect, wife like her salmon but did not love the sauce. Service was excellent, good happy hour wine prices. Bread and butter were excellent. I did not love the asparagus that came with my steak. Price for the meal much better than other prime steakhouses in Austin (140 for two with appetizer, 1 cocktail and wine not bad). Will return.

Set up reservations based on the reviews here, for New Years Eve. As there were some concerns with allergies, they were sure to confirm all allergy concerns. The food was excellent, steaks were bang on. Our only complaint were the chairs, everything was beautifully decorated, great presentation, but the chair were bar chairs.

We went out for steak dinner can't be in Austin and not have a steak, the waiter was so good funny polite and efficient, our food was excellent and we didn't feel cheated when the very reasonable check arrived. 86$ for 3 we all had main courses and beers.

I have dined here before and I am still impressed. Everything we had was cooked to perfection and the staff were attentive while not being annoying. My only gripe would be the attire of some of the guests. I can't believe some guys would go out to a Valentines day dinner unshaven, wearing shorts, an un-tucked shirt and sneakers while their date is dressed nicely. Wow!

The steaks are high quality and all were perfectly prepared. The waiter was amateurish. He had no knowledge of wines and the wine list. He asked the bartender for help, but they recommended "popular wines". He rushed the meal. With all of the good restaurants in Austin, I am not in any rush to return.

I keep trying all of their steaks, can't find one that isn't superb. I always visit on my birthday for a special meal. Great bar area and wine list.

I was very satisfied. The mushroom appetizers were excellent. The sweet potato chowder was excellent. The salmon was excellent. The chocolate bundt cake was excellent. No improvement suggested and extremely satisfied ( and full too!).

It was a very limited menu at the bar. We tried there mushrooms and they were very good and the plate had lots of mushrooms. Wine was $8.00 a glass. I had the ribeye steak sandwich and my daughter had the steak sampler appetizer. food was good but not great.

Great selection of items on the menus and a wide variety of steak. We both had the 10oz ribeye and one side of the Brussels sprouts and one Bacon Truffle Mac and Cheese. The steaks were cooked perfectly to order, but the sides were extremely underwhelming. The Brussels sprouts are shredded and have more of an essence of being steamed while the Bacon Mac had no semblance of Bacon or Truffle, just a very liquid like sauce surround elbow mac. Draft beer selection was only down to two and other cocktails / wine are very pricey.

ALC really provided a great experience for our meal. The service and food was amazing! We were treated well and to a very special meal! I would love to back and explore more of the menu!

Found this restaurant while on a training course at Austin University. It had great reviews on TripAdvisor so thought I would give it a go. The food was excellent especially the 14oz New York strip with peppercorn and stilton sauce! Salads are big and flavoursome and the cheesecake was delicious.

This was our second visit to Austin and we wanted to go back to the Austin Land and Cattle Company for the great food, drinks, prices and service in the bar. Even though it wasn't Happy Hour, the prices for the very good bar food and cocktails were still quite reasonable. Scotty, the owner always makes people feel like special guests and is most hospitable. Our server was delightful and attentive. She obviously enjoys working here This could qualify as an upscale Austin version of "Cheers" because you truly feel at home..

I love the steak, I have been to some great places, Harris' Steakhouse in SF being one of them. The ALC is real close to Harris, but without all of the upper-class appeal... A staff member at a hotel I was staying at suggested ALC. I checked it out on TA and it had some good reviews. When I got across the street from the place, I was taken back by the location, I was thinking this place is not going to cut it. Well, I already committed and I had 3 other people with me, so no turning back. BIG BIG surprise, what the place lacked on the outside appearance, it made up for on the inside. A real relaxed place that had none of the typical up-crust streak house ambiance. The staff was very attentive, the selection of wine and on-tap beer great... then the streak.. oh my the steak... I had the bone-in ribeye, cooked to medium rare perfection.. it was well marbled with a lot of great flavor. All of my guest raved about how great their steak was. This is a must visit if you are in Austin and are looking for great steak.

Didn't want to venture to far from hotel on a stormy night, so went here for dinner. Welcomed by a friendly staff who offered a bag for our dripping umbrella. Seated promptly, but it was very chilly inside, so asked to be seated outside on patio. Even though it was raining, patio was covered and a pleasant place for a meal. Good menu selections. Crab cake appetizer was good; enough for an entree for a small appetite, but could have used some more sauce. Salad was good, cold & crisp greens. Shinerbock salmon was very good, flavorful; large portion enough to share; cooked just right. Margaritas, although not the best we've had, were decent. Good cheesecake. Service was great; server very personable and attentive. Nice restaurant.

If you're looking for a real Texas steakhouse, look no further. ALC offers a wide-range of cuts cooked to perfection as well as sides & sauce pairings. Nice bar and dining atmosphere with excellent service.

Met some from while traveling through Austin for dinner. We were recommended to try this place.. We went in early and had a great dinner with a very personable waiter. We all enjoyed our meals, a mix of steaks and shrimp. Everything cooked to,order and the price was fair for what we hot... Would definitely go back next time we're in town!

We were told this was the premier steak house in Austin and they were correct. Everyone at the table had a different cut of steak and Everyone did not want to share any of their choices. The décor is upscale and very pleasing. The service was excellent. There is not much to say when everything was Excellent. This is a Must Stop for that special occasion.

We had been touring, and coming to the end of our 4-week trip in the USA were looking forward to a proper Texas steak. Well, we were told that the steak’s the thing here! The steak was OK but not exceptional, and very expensive ($42 for a 5oz fillet steak), and the accompaniments (which were charged extra) were unexciting. The surroundings were dull and the service, though friendly and trying hard, not particularly well informed, and the cost was not justified.

The steak was very good, and a good value compared to other steakhouses of similar quality. The service was fine, but not on par with some other steakhouses. The hostess seemed like she did not want to be there, but our server was friendly. I would go back.

Never been here despite being a long time Austin native and this turned out to be a great place for our anniversary dinner. We booked a last minute reservation and we were warmly greeted and seated promptly. It was the middle of the week not too busy. The portions were generous and we split a porterhouse which was cooked to perfection. The fried mushrooms appetizer was tasty however we could have skipped this had we known how big the portions were. We also tried the lobster bisque which was good but it could have been warmer. It wasn't cold but felt barely warm on a cold night. The service really stood out and the staff and our server went out of their way to make our dinner feel special. The free anniversary dessert (cheesecake with Oreo crust) was excellent. Will definitely return.

I had dinner there during a recent business trip. I found the food and service to be top notch. The place seemed to be an old school Texas steakhouse which is just what I was looking to experience. I was not disappointed. My steak came out timely and was cooked just to my specifications. The sides were great as was the salad. Bread too complimented the meal as well. Even the dessert I had, a small kind of pecan pie with ice cream was done right. Service was attentive and timely and consistent which I love. My other business diners all felt the same way, they are from Austin and proudly took me here for a great memorable meal. Very old school, with little flare, but none needed.

This was delicious, with excellent sides, and a good wine selection. Wait staff was great and very knowledgeable about the menu. Really enjoyed it.

We were a part of 6, and the service was excellent (Tarik was our server, and was very attentive). The escargot were delicious, and the fried mushrooms were wonderful--breaded just right and piping hot. We all had steaks--filets, rib eyes, and NY strips--and all were cooked to perfection...tender, juicy, and tasty! The flash-fried spinach was a real treat. Desserts definitely didn't disappoint...all were yummy. Tiramisu, creme brûlée and chocolate pie, and were a good size (enough for me to take home half of mine!). I would definitely recommend ALC for anyone wanting a good steak. The only negative I could give was that the building was pretty dark inside, could use some brighter paint.

We were looking for a local steakhouse among the many chains in downtown Austin, and was lucky to get a tip on Austin Land & Cattle from our Uber driver. It was exactly what we were looking for. A real steakhouse ambiance, in the downtown area, a reasonable price for the area, and absolutely delicious steaks. The sides were excellent, and the variety of sauces (we got a sampler of 4) was awesome. Great service as well. Highly recommended if you want a real steak in Austin.

All that you would expect in a Stakhouse offering finer cut beef selections. The steaks were tender and prepared as per request. The side offerings and accompanying sauces are typical of those found in similar establishments throughout the country and do not stand out. The tomato onion salad was creative. A bit Pricey including the drinks. When you pay these prices you expect a complete dining experience including atmosphere and service. The noise level was not controlled making conversation difficult and taking away from the dining experience.

We were looking for a great restaurant and bar and came across AL&C. We were not disappointed. Some of us ordered their specialty of Fried Chicken Steak or Fried Chicken Tuna (not in the menu) and they were great. Jeff the bartender made us feel right at home,

A high class Steak House, be prepared to make a large investment. Good food, but the interior ambiance was suspect. Great beef and seafood. Small dinning area.

Ambiance was nice, service very good. Slightly over priced. Food was good, but SALTY, extremely salty for my palette. The 14oz rib-eye with matchstick fries were presented nicely. The steak had other seasonings that if left alone would have made for a very nice meal. My companions meal of Filet Mignon was also overly salty, but the meat melted in your mouth. Highly recommend if you go here to ask for no or light salt, unless you like to live on the salty side.

First time to this great establishment and to try it for New Years Eve to boot. The place was busy and there was still plenty of room to have a pre-dinner drink in the lounge. Service was excellent and the food outstanding. The meals were cooked perfectly and the steaks were pure perfection. The staff were more than willing to accomidate a serious seafood and shellfish allergy with the wait staff making some great suggestions. We will definately return when we come back to Austin. Very well done ALC!

First impression not so great... the restaurant urgently needs restyling! The waiter was very nice, however, and that plus the fine wine options put me in a better mood. Beef pricing is stiff. I chose the filet mignon (10oz). The beef was excellent and cooked as I asked for, but too salty for current standards... but then I looked around and realized that the place was still in the 60s!! That too needs restyling, I guess. Dessert not worth a report. All in all an ok meal, but much room for improvement.

Came here for a family dinner, we left well fed and happy, real good meat cooked exactly as ordered. Our Waiter (Brian) was also knowledgeable and professional I can say he added to the experience. All our sides were well made and very tasty.they even threw in a free desert for our anniversary. I will definitely recommend this for an authentic Austin carnivore experience. Great job guys!

The waitstaff was super professional, never had to search for the waiter or wait for water refills or anything. Nice drink menu available in the bar while we waited since we arrived at 5:00 and dinner opens at 5:30. Enjoyed the hot bread and butter that was put on the table the minute we sat down at dinner. Never felt rushed but waiter and staff were attentive and comfortable to talk to. Meals do not come with salads, but food arrived in good timing. 3 of us had the filet mignon, 1 had the ribeye, and we all had different sides which were equally delicious. I highly recommend the cheesecake with oreo crust and fresh berries. This is an older building but the interior was well kept up, white tablecloths, waiters nicely dressed, nice decor. It was quiet and it's nice to be able to carry on a conversation without having to yell across the table.

Great service. Went with group of 6 people and everyone loved everything. There sweet potato soup was amazing!

We were traveling to Mexico and the one thing I wanted before leaving was a good steak (I don't care for Mexican beef). We stopped here because Texas is known for its beef and steak. The salad was good, my steak was average, but my husband's rib eye left a lot to be desired. It was thin and overcooked. The service was great.

We went because of the 3 steak appetizer. All three pieces were excellent, although some were a little tough. We got two orders so we could get two sauces. The horse radish jalapeno sauce was my favorite. Would like to try that sauce sometime with a prime rib. I order the Blue Salad without the blue cheese. The flank steak was cooked to perfection. Unbelievable flavor. My wife loved the caesar salad with fried salmon. It was amazing that the fried salmon was neither dry nor oily. We were in the bar at happy hour and it was a bit noisy, but the food, the service, and the value with happy hour prices were all exceptional.

Can't say enough good things about this restaurant. Everything from the steak to the wine was absolutely delicious!

It was our last night in Texas. "Let's go for Texas comfort food" I declared, and looked for a steakhouse in a directory of local restaurants. I decided on ALC - for no particular reason other than the name of the restaurant sounding a bit rustic! We made our reservations and headed off. We were greeted by a friendly host who promptly escorted us to our table, and left us with an ipad on which all the drinks were listed. What a great idea!!!! As a USA wine novice, the tasting notes behind the titles were invaluable, and which help me to choose a delicious Katherine Goldschmidt Cray Creek Cabernet - oh, and whilst reading it, I was drinking the BEST Margarita that I'd had in Texas - ALC's Green Margarita - which they advertise 'Try it - it's delish' - well, it truly is! We ordered our steaks - both ribeye - with our choice of potatoes, we both chose fries: one string fries, one wedges, and spinach to share. We also had sauces - Chimichuri and ALC sauce - both of which were home-made and delicious! The steaks were cooked to perfection, the fries were hot and crisp. The spinach didn't quite hit the mark for us. It was more like toasted Wakame than sauted spinach which was finished with Parmesan shavings which, to be honest, added nothing. But (sorry guys) this seems to be an American thing - whatever the dish, throw some cheese on it! This was one of the occasions when it was totally unnecessary, and didn't work! We were pretty full but were persuaded to try a dessert, with which we ordered a B&B (brandy and Benedictine for the uninitiated) which you don't get in the UK; it's not quite the same when you mix it at home rather than drinking the proprietary brand. The home-made cheesecake was good, no complaint there, but for me, it was just a tad sweet, and a little light in texture. The ice cream was rich, creamy and unctuous. Oooh, I'm salivating now! The service was just fantastic. New-boy Willis (or maybe it was Wilson - I really can't remember) was just excellent. We really felt that he wanted us to have a great night. He checked back with us a couple of times to make sure that everything was perfect - and really, it was! We asked for a cab back to the hotel - and everyone was a great pains to ensure that we knew that cabs were a bit hit and miss an Austin at the weekends - they were either really fast, or never actually came. Well, we didn't care, because we were quite comfortable sitting there with our B&Bs! The taxi soon arrived, we were escorted to the taxi (in a good way!!) and bid farewell. What a great experience we had at ALC. Next timer in Texas: we'll see you then y'all!

If you are not looking for a one star Michelin restaurant, but want to have a great steak this is the place. The atmosphere, is more like a chain thank an independent, but why change its packed almost nightly. The service was prompt, efficient and they let you eat. Why ask if you meal is OK, when everyone knows the steaks are perfect. Prices are reasonable and even with a short wine list one can fine a enjoyable wine to accompany your food. Overall, I am going back tonight. Great steaks. Thank you

Flight arrived late and when we got to hotel we were ready to eat. Hotel told us this was a great location. It was nearby and the food was very good. I got the pork chop and it was excellent! The sauce made it quite spicy. It was a Tuesday night and it seemed a little quiet. So many great restaurants in Austin, but this one was good

Great Texan hospitality & a menu to fit. Had the 22oz. Prime rib & was fabulous. Their menu is humble & traditional, with some twsits on the norm. Friendly & efficient service. Great place for a fantastic steak.

This place has a good ‘ol Texas charm. The waiters are very observant and bring you what you need even before you think you need it. My meal came out just the way I liked it, medium (a pink center in my book). And the potato was hot and melted the butter and cheese. If you are in the Austin area and want a steak, this is a good place to go.

Went there for lunch there today and all three of us did fine. I had a Cobb salad without the Bleu Cheese, because I don't'like it and had steak added along with one slice of sourdough bread and came out under 500 calories. My husband had a sirloin patty with a salad and our friend had the crab and avocado stack. Everyone was satisfied. I will say I was surprised when I looked that the salmon was over 1,000 calories. Go figure. You can also get a fried steak (it's big) for 1,700 calories but their regular steaks are ok too. The waitress was excellent and kept glasses full and took care of us without hovering. Overall very positive experience.

We had dinner here on a week night for our anniversary and had an excellent meal and service. We shared an appetizer of avocado and crab; unusual, but very good. I ordered the small filet and husband had a ribeye. Both were cooked exactly as we asked. Only disappointment was the slice of cheesecake - nothing to brag about. Service was perfect - if memory serves correctly our server was Rachel. Nice steakhouses can seem pricey, but feel like the price was fine for the level of service and food. Especially like that tables are far enough apart for private conversation and the noise level does not make your ears hurt by the end of the meal. Saw a couple of gentlemen at the bar eating hamburgers - have to go back soon and try one-looked yummy.

I had a Porter House Steak. It was not seasoned well. It tasted like they just throw it on the grill with no seasoning. I never had to add salt and pepper to a steak before. My wife didn't like her steak either compared to all the other food we have had here in Austin to this point.

My first visit to Austin Land and Cattle Company. While the outside appearance did not impress me, I found the inside warm and comfortable. The food was good and the Sunday fixed price menu for a three course meal was welcome and a reasonable price. I had the broiled large Texas shrimp and they were delicious. Others had steak and no complaints there either. The bonus was even though the restaurant was busy, it was still quiet enough to carry on a conversation.

A great place to go for a special occasion. I took my Dad here who loves the classics - ribeye, salad and bread, with a nice cocktail. We had all three. They accommodated his need for having a quieter area (hard of hearing) and we had an attentive waiter who helped us with wine and dessert choices. This is one of my favorites as someone who lives in Austin and is always searching for something other than the bigger chains. We have had great meals here over the years. Try the pork chop as well if you're not a stake eater. YUM.

This restaurant closes inside posted hours. I cam see why the ratings are sliding. This is not cool.

Came for dinner, five of us. My prawn cocktail starter wasn't actually a cocktail - four prawns on a plate, and then two different sauces in dishes on either side....no iceberg lettuce, nothing mixed together.....perhaps I'm too stuck in the 1970's when it comes to my expectation of a prawn cocktail ;). Other starters included the deep fried mushrooms, which were delicious. For mains we shared two porterhouses and a ribeye. Porterhouses overcooked (requested medium-rare, arrived medium-on-the-verge-of-medium-to-well), ribeye perfectly cooked. Assorted sides were sufficient, broccoli perfect cooked. Service was inconsistent - waters not refilled, and despite cocktail / wine glasses remaining empty, we weren't asked if we wanted more drinks. And it took ages to get the bill once we requested it. Overall not impressed with the service (our dining companions eat here every once in a while and have said they've had our server before, and was equally disappointed, but he wasn't reflective of the overall staffing), and thought the prices were slightly higher than what the quality reflected.

I had been there years ago and now it is on my "everytime in Austin" list. On Sunday's they run a $35 prixe fix, as well as the regular menu. The deal includes starter, entree (with 1 side) and dessert. I had the rib-eye. It was cooked perfectly, exactly as I ordered it and was very tender and flavorable. I have had a few bad steaks in restaurants the last few months and this restored my faith that a good steak can still be found in a restaurant.

I remember when this restaurant was an enjoyable, welcoming place, with friendly customer service. Sadly, it's changed. I didn't have a $300 dinner tab, I guess.

I went for the steak and ordered the bone-in rib eye. It was thick, cooked precisely medium rare, spiced with sufficient salt to enhance the great beef flavor. One of the best steaks I've had with non of the pomp or pretension of the downtown big steak houses. The garlic mashed and the hearts of romaine salad were adequate but not up to the excellent downtown versions. On the other hand the cool relaxed old-Austin feeling of ALC is outstanding and the prices are low enough to make this a real hit and a place on my permanent list.

Recently ate here for the first time on a recent trip to Austin. This is one of the original Austin Steakhouses. Lots of locals who know what a gem this is. The steaks were outstanding. The sides just as good and the service was warm, welcoming and knowledgeable about the food an drinks...will be back on our next trip.

This place was great. My husband and I went to celebrate our Anniversary and it was the perfect spot. We appreciated the free parking upon arrival. Then we were greeted with champagne on the house to celebrate and such delicious warm rolls. We had the ribeye and the filet. Both cooked to perfection. Our server, Rachel, was awesome! She had great suggestions and we are thrilled we had the pecan pie per her suggestions. It was the best dessert we have had in a long time!!! Thank you for a wonderful evening. We will be back!

The ambiance is nice; yet, a little dark for my liking. Waited 45 minutes for a ribeye (me) and a filet (bf). The waiter said it took so long because they had to re-cook the filet. Strike 1. Then, I bit into my ribeye and could NOT chew the meat. The waiter said sometimes that happens. Strike 2. By the time I got my new steak, my bf was already done eating. Finally, the waiter says the manager would like to offer us a free dessert for the wait and having to re-cook my steak. I ordered the Chocolate Caramel Bundt Cake and asked it be prepared to go because I was tired of sitting there. I thought to myself the dessert has to be amazing because the steak definitely was not. WRONG!!!! That bakery bought cake had to be sitting back there for days. I was so disappointed. won't be going back.

If you´re looking for a superb steak with a large selection of tasteful and elegant sides, an extensive wine list and great service, this is the place for you. Lights are a bit low, but apart from that a close to perfect experience. So tasty!

Hard to find but the food makes for it. Roasted green Chile’s are full of flavor and will make you tastes buds dance. My steak was cooked to perfection. Cream Brûlée was not so exciting, not full of flavor and is was not warmed on the top. I will come again.

While in town on business I dined here with a friend. I had the Ribeye which was excellent. It was cooked to perfection. I chose a side of Kale with grilled tomatoes also excellent. Dinner is served with fresh baked yeast rolls. As an appetizer we ordered fried mushrooms. Everything was absolutely delicious! The atmosphere was also very nice. I know I'll be returning here.

Austin Land & Cattle is a downtown restaurant with easy parking. It's been here for many years, hidden in plain sight. When we visited the place was not too crowded on a Saturday evening, a reservation was made but probably not necessary. The room was dark but our table was well lit from a small spotlight above. The sound of the blues accompanied our meal. It is the kind of music that used to be common everywhere in Austin back in the eighties. Service was top notch, attentive but non intrusive. That's all very nice but how was the steak? Delicious. A very good cut, generous, char grilled, medium rare. The flavor was just right. Gorgonzola butter made a nice accompaniment. Flash fried spinach was a new twist on an old staple: it was light, dry and almost crunchy. I'd recommend it. Wife had a small filet mignon with crab- she'd gladly have it again. Prices were steep, there's no other way to say it. It's more of a special occasion place. Got our moneys worth? We think so. We'll be back.

On a family visit to Austin came here for a reasonably priced steak. The steaks and lobster tails did not disappoint. But I went with chili-rubbed grilled pork chops and they were outstanding. You get one side which is nice in a steakhouse. At so many, everything is ala carte. The fried spinach with shaved Parmesan wasn't a hit but my wife got the baked potato and it was perfect. Service was prompt and we sat right away. Enjoyable and would definitely go back.

Excelent food, good price, great service. Very cozy. The drinks are good too. The caramelized carrots are great.
Excellent Service and Even Better Food!
On the advice of a friend, we had dinner at ALC this past Saturday for the first time. We showed up without reservations and were seated immediately. The service all evening was top notch. My husband had the Spinach Salad to start and was more than pleased with it, especially the amount of bacon on top! He followed that with the bone-in rib eye, which was cooked perfectly. I decided to have the Chicken Fried Sirloin and am happy to say it was excellent, cooked just the way my mother used to make it. Our only disappointment was that we were simply too full to order dessert. We will definitely return to ALC on our next trip to Austin.
