Slip slip slipping away

From superior approaching mediocre. Things have changed ant it for the good. They dumped Bobbie as GM, big mistake. Quality of food not so great. The espinaca had a layer of salt on top! The papas were almost cold. The beef in the Durango burrito was almost tough and lacking in flavor. But the server was excellent! Oh and they don't serve the cheese poppers anymore. Bring Bobbie Aleman back!

Quick supper

Had the seared tuna and the espinaca stuffed mushrooms. The seared tuna was perfect, fresh and yellowtail served with wasabi and sriracha. The margaritas and col Dos Sequis was just the right blend.

Great food and service!

We eat here often, especially if we are out at the mall. The food is always delicious and the customer service is excellent. They also have great margaritas!

Amazing Ann gives superior customer service

We arrived back from vacation and wanted some good Mexican food, so we headed straight from the airport to Abuela's. Called ahead from the car, as we were a party of 16, and when we arrived, they already had our table ready. Ann was our server - and we ALL agreed, we've never had such superior service! She single-handedly delivered baskets of fresh chips and salsas (MULTIPLE TIMES,) kept our drinks full without us even asking, got every order exactly right, and delivered everything quicker than we could imagine, especially for our large party size! The food was SO GOOD! We will definitely go back - and ask for ANN!

LARGE PLACE

By MeryandLeo |

During Pandemia, you've better go to a roomy place... and this is one of those places. More: they serve you with employees that keep the distance and use (always) a mask. What we had was excellent, rounding up an excellent experience for this awful time.

Relax with friends and family. Savor good food without feeling rushed.

I'm from out of town, but I have a few family members scattered across Austin. I told my relatives that I would be in town for a day between airplanes. Where could we all meet for good food and a relaxed atmosphere? Abuelo's.

Great food

We were celebrating a birthday at Abuelo’s. We ordered enchiladas, tacos, fajitas and fish tacos. All were very tasty. The dessert was Flan and was one of the best we’ve ever had.

Great Experience

We went to Abuelo's for a big birthday celebration 🎉. The room adjoining the restaurant was rented for several hours. We had a buffet meal and drinks...the frozen margaritas were great! We could hear the music from the restaurant as we ate. We were able to take our own cake, which they served. The personnel was friendly and accommodating. It was a great experience with friends and family. We plan to go back to try more of their delicious 😋 food!

Good Tex mex

Austin is a mecca for good TexMex food. There are many good hole in the wall joints all over. Abuelos is a little nicer but the food is on point. I had the Enchilada and Taco lunch the cheese and Chili con carne sauce was excellent my friend had the chicken stuffed with chorizo I had a bite and instantly wished I had ordered that. We will go back.

We like this restaurant--have for years

I thought I had written up Abuelo's from past visits, but it did not show up on my list. That's too bad because we have ALWAYS found this to be an excellent place to eat. The food is very good--fresh, tasty and well prepared/presented. The ambiance is very upscale for a "Mexican" restaurant. The food is not "Tex/Mex" or trailer food--this is a very nice atmosphere where the food offerings are creative and have a "twist" of their own. The chef is good! The service is always decent and friendly--helpful with the options. There is an outside area, but it can be a little noisy (the 360 traffic is busy as is the mall access), but good for large groups. Avoid it on hot days! Parking is available in front and on the side. The location is really good. It is next to the Barton Creek Mall. It is a very good enclosed mall that has a vast parking area. Most malls are having serious problems, but this one seems to be holding its' own--not a lot of traffic, but there are buyers going there. Of all the food options in the mall area, to us, Abuelo's is the best choice--with Cheesecake Factory in the mall a good second choice. The wine list is weak and could be easily improved. There are beer options and special drinks available.

Great Mexican Food and Friendly Service

Abuelo's has been located here at The Barton Creek Mall entrance area for many years. It is easy to find, and the parking is ample. The original locations were in the Texas Panhandle where they still are satisfying customers decades later. This Austin location offers light as a feather chips with a salsa trio. Meals offer a choice of papas(potatoes) or typical rice and beans. Several in my family always get the papas. The menu is extensive. If you are an enchilada lover, there are endless combinations of fillings and sauces to make you happy. There are fish and meat entrees that you will not typically find elsewhere, as well as the typical tacos and fajitas. The location offers indoor and outdoor seating, The interior is bright and colorful. The bar puts out some decent drinks. The staff has always been friendly, and the management is doing a good job on keeping the place clean and running smoothly.
