Fantastic!

By Shon H |

We had a great experience at Agave! Food was fantastic. We had top shelf margaritas, barbacoa chorizo tacos, and the mahi special. Everything was fantastic!!

Rack of Lamb

By livelife h |

The Rack of Lamb and mashed potatoes were delicious. The chorizo meatballs were kinda of bland. The chicken Quesadillas were good.

Consistently great

Always a go to in Atlanta! Service, food, price.....go, as a local Atlanta in town person since 1986, you will not be disappointed!

Order specials not so special

By A-a-Ron D |

Well I usually give benefit to the cook, but I was under impressed. Took awhile to get food thinking the food would be amazing based on reviews from T.A. Food finally arrived after 4 bowls of chips. Thinking I would be full, I actually finished my dish; Mahi Mahi with risotto and mushroom. It was ok but not great. I have had better. My buddy got well done steak, but requested medium well. My wife is a true Mexican from Mexico and her pozole was ok but too thick in texture. So it was overall not a place we would visit to eat a main dish again; maybe drinks and appetizers and did I mention those chips, yes they actually we're really good considering we had four bowls.

Fantastic restaurant

By spaintravelerAtlanta |

Wow! when you enter a restaurant on a Saturday night at 6:30 and it's packed....you know you are in for a great meal.....and a great meal is what we had. As soon as you sit down the server bring you a basket of chips and salsa... The menu has something for everyone. Here's what our group ordered: fish tacos, ceviche, trout, salmon, meatloaf....The ceviche was the best I think I even eaten. The fish tacos were just ok....they reminded me more of a "wrap" rather than soft taco shells. The trout with rice was delicious as was the salmon. The meat loaf was a little too spicy. You must order the flan for dessert...it's great! Service was fantastic. Valet parking available.

Great Food and Drinks

By Sheree J |

This was my second time visiting Agave and the food was delicious. The food prices are very reasonable and their drink menu is awesome. The margaritas are great and the atmosphere is really nice especially for groups. I love that they offer complimentary valet too. We had reservations and were seated as soon as our group arrived. I would definitely recommend Agave to others.

Solid meal and service

By cdkassotis |

Came here for a business dinner and left pretty satisfied if a little confused. The food is Southwestern, and the standard options were quite good. We started with chips/salsa/guac and queso, all good. I opted for the Barbacoa & Chorizo Chile Taco for my entree, which seemed more like a burrito or enchilada than a taco. Shortrib, peppers/onions/chorizo red chile sauce, hatch green chiles, and rice/black beans. I'm pretty weak when it comes to heat, so was a little nervous - but there was no heat to speak of in this fish - pretty surprising given the description. Also tried their standard margarita, which they said was award-winning. Solid, but nothing amazing. I think the odd part came with dessert, when they tried to sell us on their key lime pie. Not entirely sure how that fit the theme, but it wasn't anything amazing. Service was great, meal was solidly good - would visit again!

It's not what it seems

By Janet B |

It's BETTER!! First make a reservation to save yourself a disappointment, it gets crowded fast. You start with complimentary valet service, and we were immediately greeted by a friendly staff. Not your standard Mexican fare but plenty options. We had a large party and Everyone enjoyed their food. I had the Spinach, Kale, Apples, & Blue Cheese salad and fried lobster tail. That lobster tail hands down was the best I've ever had. The seasoning !!!! Stuffed Mountain Trout Tomatillo was excellent. We will be back

Fantastic food, service and cocktails

By Penguin_penguin8 |

Went the first time as it was late and close to where we were staying but are so glad we did and went back again a few days later. Food was tasty, creative and prompt. We were looked after we'll by our server in a lovely atmosphere. Frozen passion fruit margarita was sensational, as were the trout, the scallops, the tuna and key lime pie. Thank you Agave.

Service slow, food ok

By bgreenley |

I really wanted to like this place but I was disappointed. The server forgot our appetizer and it came out with the food. The poblano soup was good, street corn lacked the creamy sauce that makes it street corn. The carnitas enchiladas were bland so there was nothing memorable about the meal. We had to ask for the check after waiting for awhile because the server was talking.

Southwest meets the south.

By rosiego |

This place is so worth the Lyft or Uber drive! When you need that something different feel, come here! The margaritas are fantastic, the service excellent, the southwest dishes have a southern twist. The atmosphere is perfect. You sit down and immediately given warm tortilla chips with salsa. The calamari with two sauces is addictive. We got here late so unfortunately missed the famous key lime pie.

OH So Good

By irishwhiskey1 |

amazing not sure why it took me so long to try it. The margaritas are excellent . made from real juice and no pre mix thank goodness... the food amazing. I had the Herb & chile grilled swordfish over fire roasted tomato & serrano grits, with grilled zucchini & squash, citrus corn salsa, and a smoky morita red chile sauce. I don't usually eat fish this was melt in your mouth good. my husband and another friend got the special of the night Cobia and that was also wonderful. the scollops dish was cooked perfectly buttery goodness. all 4 of us enjoyed our meal. So good. and the service as on point even in a crowded restaurant on a saturday night. there is also valet parking which is a huge plus

Upsell Nightmare

By Anna S |

Wannabe hip restaurant with a greedy vibe. Food was good, but had no use for the agressive server who tried to upsell everything we ordered. My entre came with grilled corn, but she tried to push an "upgrade" so the corn would have added queso, etc. Who the hell "upgrades" an entre? Serve it as listed, or just do it a la carte. Asked for a straw for my margarita, was charged $1.00 for a metal one. Declined dessert , but had to listen to the whole key lime pie pitch and when we declined it again, was told I could buy it and take it home. Left an overall unpleasant impression and we won't go back.

Good good in a cozy atmosphere

By pelarge |

We stopped in here on the way to a concert at the Fox Theatre. First thing to know: the parking lot is all valet parking! So don’t do what we did and just pull into a spot. After that got settled, we had a wonderful experience. Chips and salsa arrive with menus. We stuck with traditional Mexican restaurant items…the enchiladas and the burrito and both were over the top yummy. Great service, too! I’ll definitely return to try more items.

Great southwestern restaurant off the beaten track

By jamiegU6773KL |

We recently diverted on our trip to Atlanta in time for this restaurant. It was well worth the effort. Great ambiance and excellent southwestern food. Had a top shelf margarita it was one of the best I’ve ever had.My wife thoroughly enjoyed the lime and garlic flatiron steak. Great guacamole and I enjoyed the tomato avocado salad. Can’t wait to go back and try the cayenne chicken. Will definitely stop on our next trip through Atlanta

Half cooked meat!

By Ivry M |

I recently took a visit to Agave for a friend’s birthday dinner on a Friday night. The waitress seemed a little overwhelmed since she had multiple tables in the back area. After getting our drink orders we waited to place foods orders. I ordered the pork chop dinner. When everything came out everything looked good. As I was eating my pork chop I started to notice that the meat WASN’T cooked all the way through. I pointed the problem out to my waitress and she stated “ohhh yea that should be cooked all the way through”. She took my plate back and the cook placed the EXACT same semi eaten raw meat on the grill. Once it was brought back out I noticed that it was the same piece, but tried to eat it. At this point I’m paying attention to every single bite. Keep in mind not once did the manager come over to the table to check on me or apologize. Once the bill was about to come out I asked her if anything would get taken off the bill. Not even half, but at least something . She stated that she had to go talk to her manager. After their conversation she came back stating that he wouldn’t take anything off, but could offer me a dessert. I could hear in her voice that was shaky that it wasn’t something she wanted to really tell me, because she knew it was not something I would or anybody would want to hear. Moral of the story is I’m never eating here again. Practice customer service and how to better prepare a pork chop!!!!!!

Great dinner!

By Shelly L |

Excellent guacamole, good food, great service and a perfect margarita! The early bird dinner is a great value.

Lots of character in a comfy location with great food and drinks

By Dayn R |

In the area for a show and heard nothing but great reviews so we decided to check it out! Wait time was far less than expected and projected. Was seated almost immediately and greeted quickly. Appetizers arrived on time, drinks as well. Meal was awesome. Had enough time to grab the doggy bag and still make the show. Putting this on our return visit list for sure!

Cute and tasty

By Mrs_JSR |

Nice vibe and good Mexican food, fish & pasta. We sat on the "dining" side (as opposed to the bar side which also has a dining area) next to the fireplace. Also really loved that they had an entirely separate vegetarian menu as an option.

Fantastic food in a fantastic location

By Sadie |

Wow what an incredible restaurant in Atlanta. The ambiance was so inviting, cute and cozy. We sat on the back patio and enjoyed the sunset while enjoying our delicious meal. I ordered the crawfish pasta and the trout starter. Both were so satisfying. My husband got the shrimp and lobster enchiladas - the chile sauce was so good. Everything here is clearly made with love. The staff was super attentive and the margaritas are a must try, especially the jalapeño. Definitely coming back to this local staple!

Southwestern Gem

By VMVMadison |

Agave is a favorite restaurant for its success at providing consistently impressive Southwest food and great service. Most recently we dined at Agave on Saturday, October 12th, bringing out of town guests. The dining experience was wonderful from the beginning with a warm and welcoming greeting by the Mr. Pinkham, and the attention from the Server, Keith, and his team. Food recommendations: The Salsa, offered compliments of the restaurant, is perfectly prepared, as are the Fresh Homemade Guacamole (simply the best in town) & Chips, Grilled Street Corn, Pulled Pork Verde Enchiladas, Chicken Chile Quesadilla, the Veggie Enchilada and Veggie Tostada. If you are so inclined, the Margaritas are delicious. I love the Traditional, my husband the Smoking Hot, and our family the Fresh Passion Fruit, and Fresh Fruit Mango. We highly recommend dining at Agave, and look forward to our next visit.

Horrible Birthday Dinner

By J B |

The service was slow, waiter was inattentive, and the food was just okay. I noted on my reservations that this was my birthday dinner but for what? It was not acknowledged. I noticed the surrounding birthday patrons received a mini-celebration from the staff but when it came to my table the waiter just slipped me a bowl of mousse, said a quick “Happy Birthday” and walked off. We had to flag him down to place our order, for water refills, to clear the table, to bring the check, and for my friends to request the birthday treat not to mention the long delays in between. The only positive was that my food and drink were good but my friends don’t say the same about theirs. If he had checked in with us periodically, he probably could’ve turned that around but he obviously didn’t care. We told him about not liking the drinks and he acknowledged that my friend didn’t eat her side dish but he didn’t offer resolutions. He completely ignored our table yet was quite attentive to the larger table next to us. Needless to say he missed out on tips from us. We all drove an hour to get to this place because of my recommendation and it was a huge disappointment. If it weren’t for my girls’ presence, I would say my birthday dinner was a disaster because Agave certainly didn’t make an effort to make it special. The manager offered a coupon and dessert but by that time the damage was already done. There are too many other restaurants in the city to choose from and I won’t be back. Thanks a lot Agave for this disappointing birthday memory.

Great service

By 2happi |

Parking can be tricky at times as this is a very busy area, but valet parking is available. Once we were seated, gave our order and the food appeared in no time. Started with the fish tacos & chicken poblano soup..both were very good. Then came the chicken enchiladas & veggie quesadilla!!! The food is tasty, well seasoned and large portions. It can get crowded quickly but there's lots of staff present. Always a great experience here!!!

Great place

By Tube-Bender |

Service was great sitting at the bar from Autumn. Great suggestions for a first time customer. Margaritas were very good and the food was great.

Great menu options

By Tami R |

I ended up selecting the swordfish, I’ll select something else next time. Fish was dry, asparagus was overly charred but the potatoes were fantastic. My husband had the pork chop special, he loved it. Daughter ordered the chicken burrito, said it was like every other burrito. My son-in-law ordered the trout stuffed with crawfish. He loved it. Seemed hit or miss. They do have valet parking which was nice. Top shelf margarita was average. I’ll go again because the service was terrific, they had so many great flavor combos, and you never feel rushed.

Great find!

By Esskay16 |

Staying locally for a trade fair and thought we’d try this restaurant. It didn’t look open from the outside, it was quite dark, not much lighting - in fact we weren’t sure it was open. On opening the door we were hit with a real buzz of people clearly enjoying themselves. There’s a great atmosphere and the staff are extremely friendly. The dining area has very subdued lighting which made reading the menu a challenge! The salsa and nachos were a nice surprise, the salsa is great. We split the guacamole appetiser, it was really good. Both entrees were excellent, we had the salmon and the seared tuna - really beautifully cooked. Shame we didn’t have enough room for the key lime pie!

One of the City's Best Tables, Creative Great Cuisine

By Robert Franklin |

I visited Agave in 2002 and found an above average menu. I visited in 2017 and now declare it to be a revelation. Do this even if you aren't fond of Mexican fare. Their extensive fresh grilled fish list and fried lobster tail will make you smile. -warm tasty chips and salsa appear instantly - superb margaritas - corn enchiladas with smoked chicken was outstanding - Cayenne onion rings, stunning - slow roasted beef, amazing - Belgian chocolate mousse, an epiphany So, Agave has edged out Superica, Nuevo Laredo as top notch Tex-Mex and Southwesterns. Popular and average spots are Pappasito's, No Mas and Rosa Mexicano. On a Friday night it didn't fill until 7:15pm. Go early.

ROACHES

Great Place

By nosevens |

Everything was wonderful. Perfect! Fresh chips and perfectly spicy salsa. I had to the medallions and my wife had the shrimp. As good as any place I've ever eaten.

Worth the wait.

By VanillaAce |

Dinner reservations at 6:45 pm on a Saturday night. Seated at 7:15pm. Agave was very busy for a reason. The service was excellent and chips/salsa very good. The tequila shrimp and Stone Mountain trout were prepared deliciously with a perfect blend on Mexican flare seasoning. Great bar and margaritas also.

Late Dinner

By Detrie B |

Stopped in around 8:30 PM for dinner. Didn’t have reservations. The wait was about 30 minutes. Place has a small intimate vibe. Lively crowd. We started with the calamari appetizer. It was seasoned well. Loved the two dipping sauces. One was light & sweet the other had a more creamy texture. Both were good. I had the salmon and my husband had the shrimp and grits. We loved both entrees. I would definitely come back again

Meeting in Atlanta

Wish It Was Better

By chad david s |

The parking lot of this place is ALWAYS packed and as a result I have always thought it was me and not Agave. I have been several times, but have never figured out the appeal- save for the atmosphere. It is in the hood, so I will keep trying to find the secret.

Excellent Mexican in Atlanta

By Beth E |

The food and atmosphere were absolutely excellent! Many unusual and non-traditional offerings. We went on a Saturday night so it was very crowded and a bit noisy. Reservations are a must on weekends

Southwest food

By Mark W |

Everything here that I've had is good from the cocktails to the food. The menu has several seafood as well as other items on the menu. The waiters are very helpful with suggestions. The building the resturant is in is the old cotton mill store really cool. It's also across the street from Oakland cemetery

Not worth the trip

By Phamus |

There was nothing about this place that was inviting. First thing you get is of course chips and salsa which seems to be something that would be easy to get right. The chips were absolutely awful the salsa was good but watery. Place was busy and we had a large party by the time we got our drinks the ice had melted in them. Guacamole for some reason they leave small lime wedges in the mix so I bit into some lime not awful and not needed. I had short ribs on a bed of sweet potatoes it was tasty .I got some grilled street corn which was tasty bit barely warm. I just wasn't impressed by anything at this place and wouldn't return.

Amazing food and drinks

By jacobb784 |

I have had the privilege of traveling all around the world and when i can I usually try enchiladas where ever i can.... these were the best enchiladas i have ever had. My wife had a Cajun pasta that was also amazing. she had a margarita that was perfect a little sweet and not over baring with the tequila taste. great décor also. loved everything about it

Inexpensive Mexican food great service

By Stephen P |

Agave was a great spot for good food, warm service and a nice assortment of tequila drinks. The menu is not huge, but has great choices and they have a separate vegetarian menu.

Great food, great drinks, great service

By CG9672 |

Tried this place with some friends while visiting from out of town and it was great. Lively atmosphere, excellent service and we all loved our meals.

A Cabbagetown Surprise

By JKoz |

We went to Agave on a Sunday night expecting it would be good. We ended up very surprised at how good it is. The service and food are excellent. You'd think you were in ALB or Santa Fe - not ATL. The flavors are great - the variety of tempting menu items guarantees you'll be back again and again. We sat in the area adjacent to the bar and enjoyed the people show. Our waiter was great, attentive but not hovering. We had the flat iron steak which was wonderful. The Agave salad, as well as the onion rings started the evening off really nicely. Prices were surprisingly reasonable for downtown ATL. And on top of all this, Agave is real easy to get to off the downtown connector. If your headed to this part of ATL then Agave is well worth a visit. We'll certainly be back.

Fresh Latino food prepared perfectly

By lewwjr |

We found this on TA and everything other guests posted positively were true. The place is bustling with patrons and staff working diligently to serve their delicious food. We splurged and ate so many dishes its too hard to single any one out. Let’s just say- the flavors and fresh ingredients are key to everything. The service was great and even though they were slammed on a Friday night, our order to eat times were quite good. A must place to enjoy.

Never Disappoints

By DeboM |

I always enjoy my meal, drink, and the service at this place. It is a definite go to spot for visitors and locals alike. The swordfish is my favorite. The scallions are hubby's favorite. We've never gone wrong with any menu item. Definitely one of our favorites.

An Amazing Meal, Beginning to End

By Chris D |

Friends had been telling us for years to come here, and 22 years after arriving in Decatur, we did! The food was divine from the salmon croquette appetizers to the entrees (salmon and seared scallops), to the dessert - one of the best key lime pie slices I have ever had, and a dark chocolate flourless cake that my wife talked about for days. Let's just say, we'll be back. The restaurant feels small and cozy, and our waitress was attentive, but faded away when it was clear we were happy to just talk and eat. If you have not been, please try it.

Didn't eat here

By pmp1960 |

We were going to try this place but pulled in the small parking lot. The non-valet section was full so we would have had to use the valet which was the other half of the lot. Didn't seem right to do valet for someone who was going to go 20 feet to get our car. We left so I can't comment on the food.

Birthday Dinner for my niece

By Aneig1998 |

This is my 3rd time dining here. I suggested we come for another phase of my nieces 21st birthday. We arrived a little earlier than our scheduled reservation. We were accommodated in the back dining room in a corner table. The room was crowded and hot. There were fans but not close enough to cool off our table. I don't believe in dining indoors hot. We were moved to the main dining room area to another comfortable table. We sat there for a while. I initially wanted some guacamole. However, by the time our waiter made it to our table to take our drink orders I was almost full from the table chips and salsa. We didn't receive our drinks until 7:44pm. Which is was too long of a wait for drinks. The meal was excellent. We had the Tenderloin Medallions with mashed potatoes and grilled veggies. I had to ask for a dessert menu. We had the Flan and the raspberry cheesecake. Both were absolutely delicious. What is so unfortunate is that our waiter Taylor service was dry compared to an adjacent table where we saw him interacting with a great deal of enthusiasm. This experience will impact any potential future visits. Plus my niece didn't receive any type of Birthday shoutout despite it being included in my reservation.

My favorite since I moved to ATL in 2000!!

By HeatherL |

I love this restaurant. The food is amazing and consistent. I feel comfortable eating there solo at the bar, with large groups, or date night. The team is wonderful, many of which I still recognize and know well from their opening year.

Always Delicious

By lmd3 |

Agave is one of our favorites! It's always delicious and the service is great! I highly recommend the scallops and the fried chicken. Go with friends or family and get the dessert platter...yum!

I had a to go order.Mashed potatoes with corn 2 pieces on sticks and 2 chicken breast fried with cayenne delicious came with a sauce.I also got the complimentary chips and dip🙂.I tipped the waitress. Also great meal for the price.

Fantastic Birthday Dinner

By Kyle M |

Our family absolutely loved our dinner. Terrific margaritas apps and dinner. Every thing we had was unique and wonderful. Meatball appetizer, guacamole, chicken enchiladas, flat iron steak and shrimp entree. Suberb! Excellent service as well.

Best Margaritas

We love the margaritas and food at Agave. Been here many times! Food is delicious. Highly recommend the stuffed poblanos, scallops, shrimp and enchiladas.

Margarita and good food

By Luca D |

Surely a different Mexican restaurant. Everything is prepared accurately and you taste delicious entrees and an awesome margarita!!! Very ver recommended.

Fun Evening

By Tracy L |

Restaurant was small but we had a great time. The food was good and the prices were reasonable considering the dining scene in Atlanta.

Great twist on Mexican fare

By profmom1 |

Friends of ours recommended this to us. I was expecting the usual Mexican food that is all over this area, but I was pleasantly surprised by the choices, particularly the seafood options. I had swordfish, and the margaritas and desserts were good, too.

New Mexico in Atlanta!

By RichDowns |

I lived in southern New Mexico for twenty plus years, absolutely love the state. The Agave looks as if it has been plucked out of some small New Mexican town and dropped into Atlanta. Complete with RC Gorman prints, photos of native Americans and pots of various sizes, colors and textures. Plus the furniture was wood, old wood, with the wall painted in earth tones with occasional splashes of reds and oranges. Even smelled like a wood fire. My wife and I disagree on the food. She ordered the salad special which included strawberries. The waiter returned to say they were out of strawberries, would she like to substitute apples or mangoes? The mangoes were good, salad was OK. I had the blue tortilla chicken enchiladas with Charlie Brown beans. Very good. The chips and salsa served with the meal were good, salsa some of the best I've had in awhile and tostada chips were warm-big plus. We had a delicious appetizer. Corn on the cob grilled with lots of spicy butter and cheeses, very messy, but also very good. My wife and I disagree on ratings. She says three, she was upset about running out of strawberries at 8:15 and complained about the noise. I thought the enchiladas were delicious, the chips and salsa good, the appetizer was great and my margarita was delicious. She's right about the noise level. I'd go back, but I miss the southwest.

The Absolute Best!

By SAmaya |

This place is amazing! Hands down the best food ever. From the appetizers to the desert, it is all perfection! Will absolutely be back!

Very good

By Bob F |

Have not been for a couple years. Upon returning found it pretty much the same except seems more crowded with the millennial crowd since the surrounding area has grown so much recently. We really enjoyed the food (trout and scallops were excellent). Only thing to note is that it gets pretty noisy in the dining area due to all the hard surfaces, floors walls etc. will definitely go back

Top Shelf Margarita!

By Julie H |

Hands down the best margarita I've ever had! The restaurant is small but lively. Fast paced open kitchen. Knowledgeable wait staff. Great food! All together a great dining experience!

Consistently A Southwest Gem

By VMVMadison |

Agave has become one of a handful of favorite restaurants. Our most recent visit was on Saturday, November 25th. The Staff excel at Customer Service (AJ was the exceptional Server this visit.) The food is flavorful and attractively plated (Recommend the Cayenne Onion Rings, Pork Verde Enchiladas, and Chicken Chile Quesadilla) The Traditional and Jalepeno Margaritas are a must. The decor is pleasant. Dining at Agave is a feel-good experience. And, importantly, Agave is consistent. Highly recommend Agave.

reviews are not accurate

By Milagros1957 |

This place is over rated I had the stuffed mountain trout tomatillo. This fish was not seasoned and it was served partially cold. The place is super pack and tight for people to get out of their tables. We made phone reservations and they could not sit as until half an hour later. this place is over rated. hope your experience is better.

Kitchen problems, valet problems

By CaptTrouble |

We parked our car with the valet as they have a lot and that's the way it is: valet. The valet was very nice. We were seated fairly quickly and the restaurant was not busy. We were seated in a far corner of the restaurant near another table. It took several minutes but we then got water. Still more time went and no server. At more than 15 minutes, my husband reluctantly went and spoke to the hostess. We weren't mad, we just thought there was a communication error and our server didn't know we were there. We hadn't seen a server at all in our part of the dining room. Another 5 minutes and we had a server. Of course, the table next to us had many demands and we still didn't get our order in. We did get a drinks order in. We both ordered the Top Shelf Margarita ($9.50 ea). It took a few minutes and we had our drinks. Another 10 minutes and our server was ready to take our food order. He was surprised we decided to skip an appetizer; we had been sitting long enough that the idea of spending the evening there waiting for food was not a pleasant thought. Our server apologized and said there had been a mishap in the kitchen with another of his orders that he needed to straighten out. He thanked us for being patient. At this point, we were still open to having a nice meal. I ordered the Shrimp Anejo ($22). My husband ordered the Chile Seared Scallops ($24). My shrimp wasn't that great but my husband liked his scallops. He really didn't care for the rest of his meal; I think it was the spicing or being overdone (or both). I noted that the two dishes were of a similar color. Strange. The rest of our meal went smoothly and we got the check when we asked for it. We also got credit for the lesser meal from a deal my husband had for dining there. When we got into our car and were driving away, I found that there was a strange, wet substance on the bottom of the passenger door hand hold (the one inside the door just below the window). We drive a BMW 300 and I always have to use that door hand hold to get in and get out because the car is so low to the ground. When I got out, I guarantee that hand hold was not wet. This was a strange, kind of oily and bad smelling liquid. I dug for tissues to get it off my hand. My husband drove us home as we assumed that for some reason the door was opened and it was food or something that wasn't a big deal. Well, it was apparently a solvent of some kind as it "melted" the door handle on the backside or bottom where your fingers would wrap around it. It was very gooey and you couldn't touch it. The other door handle on the driver's side never had a problem. We eventually had to order a new door handle at the BMW dealership and have it replaced (they couldn't do anything with it). We did not report it to the restaurant as we assumed they would drag out the old chestnut of "We're not liable for damage to your car." But, I have to ask, why did they need to open the passenger door again after I got out and the door was closed while we were standing there? And what was on their hands? There were two men in the valet lot at the time. This happened on August 6 and our meal receipt shows 7:42 pm. We haven't been back. Honestly I do not trust them with our car.

A great experience

By xsolomon |

Agave has good drinks and great food. The menu was filled with so many options to choose from. Menu is fairly priced. I'll definitely go back to try more options. Only 4 stars because was the guacamole was kinda basic.

I really liked this place. Atmosphere food and service were all very good. Feels very homey in the place and the food did not disappoint. Highly recommend eating at this spot and also getting a reservation.

Best Restaurant in the City

By Bryan S |

I have been to Agave multiple times and they never let me down. The dishes are very creative and just as pleasing to the eye as the taste buds. When I go out to dinner I want to have something that I don't feel like I could prepare at home. The creativity of the dish, outstanding flavor and the most attentive staff in town all make the dining experience truly special every time you go. They combine all of this with a great wine list and an over the top margarita menu. The kitchen is in the open which allows you to watch the food preparation and plating process which adds to the overall enjoyment. This is a restaurant that never disappoints!

Very good food & excellent service. However...

By ChipCoffey |

As stated in the title, the food was very good and the service was excellent. The only drawback was the dining room is cramped. We could barely get in and out of our chairs because our table was THISCLOSE to the tables beside us. The restaurant is located right next to historic Oakland Cemetery and the signage is easy to miss. They offer valet parking, which is nice.

An eclectic southwestern gourmet restaurant in Atlanta?

By deg7608 |

My wife & I have just returned from having dinner at Agave. We have traveled in the southwest United States including Albuquerque but we have never experienced such a quality meal, service, and atmosphere as we had tonight at Agave. As others have commented, we were immediately seated when we arrived at the reserved time at the restaurant. We felt that we were eating in outdoor patio much like we have experienced in fine dining establishments in Jalisco, Mexico. We were so tempted to order an appetizer, but since we had no way to hold any "doggie bag" remains from our meal, we opted only for an entree. I certainly had to order the unique rack of lamb preparation after our waiter recommended it unsolicited. My wife chose a wonderful anejo shrimp dish. Our entrees were complemented with the house margaritas. Our servings sizes were perfect, but more importantly, the taste and presentation were spectacular. We seldom order dessert, but since we had chosen to avoid the calorie and bulk of an appetizer, we elected to order the key lime pie for dessert. On our travels to Florida, we have enjoyed some excellent key lime pie, but the key lime pie at Agave overshadowed those that we have had in the past. Agave is easily accessed off of the Interstate (I-20) near downtown Atlanta. There is valet parking in the lot next to the restaurant. We were in and out in a little over an hour. Our watier, Taylor, was very cordial and knowledgeable about the menu. The cost of our meal was very reasonable and much more than a meal that we had had downtown Atlanta the previous night. We are planning on returning to Agave tomorrow night since there are so many eclectic entrees on the menu that we would like to try. Agave not only is the best southwestern restaurant in Atlanta, it may be the best southwestern restaurant in the United States.

Consistent Excellence

By Michelle J |

Agave is a southwestern eatery next to Historic Oakland Cemetery. I can walk there from my house, and it's a must go when out of town friends visit. The food is consistently delicious, my current favorite is the Pan Seared Salmon, with the Scallops as a close second. The bartenders are outstanding- fresh Margaritas are very popular and their wine choices are excellent. YUM!

Diver scallop dish was the best one of the three entrees

By VHikerChick |

My aunt's diver scallop entrée was top notch. She got 5 large scallops plus delicious grits and collard greens. I enjoyed my enchilada dish, and my uncle ate most of his tuna salad (the tuna was prepared on the rare side as requested), but we filled up on guacamole, salsa and chips and the chopped salad. The guac was good, but the salsa was even better. We had a great server who never rushed us through our meal or out the door, and the restaurant was very good about honoring our reservation even though we arrived 20 minutes later than expected. Reservations are a must even when dining at 5:30pm! I would definitely eat here again.

Fun place

Great food, great margaritas! Our waitress was professional, knowledgeable and very friendly. The whole place has atmosphere and sole. Go!

Santa Fe style cafe in the ATL

By Sanjiv D |

After a long day at work, my wife and I decided to out to eat for dinner. We passed by Agave many times on our walks, so we decided to give it a try. We made reservations on line and when we got there, it took about 10 minutes to get seated. The waitress who served us was nice and knew the menu. The restaurant had a Santa Fe style to it. Being from Santa Fe, I am always dubious of this style of restaurant. I decided to go with the Georiga trout and wife went with the swordfish. My trout was excellent and cooked just right. It was stuffed with crawfish and was accompanied by some type of sauce which was delicious. My wife's main dish was slightly overcooked but tasted great. The Green chile mashed potatoes were nice slightly spicy and it did remind me of northern New Mexico. We had one alcoholic beverage and with tax and tip the bill came out to 70 dollars. All in all, I would go back there again and try more dishes.

Started O.K. but went downhill

By KeithF928 |

My wife and I just returned from dinner. The strawberry margarita was very good. Chips were O.K but the salsa was very watery and lacked flavor. We had the Southwestern Shrimp Spring Rolls as an appetizer and they were very lightly fried and tasty. For entrees we chose the Sante Fe Blue Corn Enchiladas and the New Mexico Burrito & Stew. Both were very disappointing. My enchiladas were soggy and filled with just chicken that was dry and lacking any flavor. The beans also lacked flavor. My wife also thought her meal was very bland. Service was very good and the meal was served promptly. This is only the second time a highly rated TripAdvisor restaurant (with numerous reviews) has let me down. In fairness I didn’t check the reviews to see what menu items were highly rated and I don’t think we ordered well. Maybe next time…if there is one.

Great service and food

By Amy S |

We found this place when we arrived at Dakota Blue and were greeted by a closed sign... we were so disappointed... BUT that changed quickly. Agave was fantastic. The estate was super friendly and accommodating and service was excellent, attentive, and friendly. The food was really fresh and delicious and the menu had lots of options for our family of 6 including picky kids to vegetarians to meat lovers. I definitely recommend!!!

Excellent meal and service

By advoctae |

Wide choice of menu items as well as an extensive wine list. Nachos and salsa are the standard appetizer. Chose the barbecued beef tenderloin special with a glass of Malbec. The beef was very tender and exceptionally good. Kiwi lime pie for dessert was very good but could have been fresher. Service was prompt and attentive.

Consistently Good

By DebriSanFranciscoCA |

I have been going to Agave since they opened. Never had a bad meal or bad service. Have been solo, taken friends from out of town, and celebrated all great occasions.

Great Mexican Saloon

By Francesco F |

Friendly, Happy place to feel at ease since the very first moment. Located downtown easily reachable from anywhere in Atlanta. Grat Margarita to start with best Guacamole and salsa. The customer care is excellent smiling and helpful. Great Cayenne fried chicken Right price / quality ratio. Will return for sure!

Food and service hard to beat

By george r |

Agave has been around for about twenty years and many of their customers dining there for same amount of years. A perfect dining experience. The salmon best I have had.

I’ll Be Back!

By Loreen C |

Hidden gem I’d never heard of. Great hip ambience and interesting Tex-Mex menu that’s elevated compared with other restaurants. We had a party of 10 - the servers were great and everyone raved about their food. I hit the yummy jackpot with the Chicken Poblano soup - fantastic!!!

Good Food in LOUD Place

By LuckySpivey |

We had the “anniversary” 3 course special with rockfish, which was excellent, and the chili rellano, which was even better. The decor was festive, the service was good, but we could not carry on conversation it was so loud.

Loved the margaritas!

By Candyrants |

Cozy little place with amazing margaritas! I only had dessert and drinks so can’t speak much to the food. However, I’d return just for the bar. My favorite was the spicy jalapeño margarita

Excellent Food and Service

By jpjpjpjpj |

This is a very authentic Latino restaurant with some foods you may be surprised to find on the menu. The drinks were well-poured and the ambiance is excellent. Agave can become crowded, as someone mentioned, but I felt it was worth the slightly increased noise level to have excellent, satisfying food.

Wonderful visit

By Kayl_D |

Went here with friends for my birthday. Did not disappoint. The dinner special was amazing and so were the drinks. Nice and eclectic vibe and environment. Definitely look forward to returning.

Excellent dinner, nice menu, great flavors

By Michael B |

Many flavorful choices at reasonable prices. We had pork enchiladas, chicken enchiladas, and a fabulous pork chop. Just exceptional.

Great service

By Rene' S |

We had a large group and Tyler provided great service for us! The food was delicious. I had the sesame sashimi tuna and was very pleased. I also recommend the Good Karma Margarita.

15th year anniversary

By Trese B |

For our 15th year anniversary we decided to check out AGAVE. I had heard great things about their food and surely we were not disappointed. Cons: really loud atmosphere. So if you are looking for a quiet spot to enjoy a special meal Agave is not the spot. Pros: absolutely great food and great service. I ordered the trout and my husband had the steak dinner. So if you're in the Atlanta area and need some great food and service give AGAVE a try. Side note : they make grrrrrreat MOJITOS !

Great food, slow service

By TCU_2003 |

We were a party of six - clients and consultants. Our waiter warned us ahead of time that splitting our bill was going to take awhile...and reminded us at least 2 more times about it, to the point that it was almost ridiculous. It also took him forever to take our order. Once he finally did, our food was out relatively quickly, and was delicious! It did take forever to flag down anyone to get drink refills, though. Once we asked for our bill; despite repeated warnings, it was quick and efficient to get the different bills and pay. The ladies restroom was definitely not the cleanest.

Fantastic!

By Q6833EVjimw |

Found this place on TripAdvisor. Thursday night it was packed. Very good vibes. Very hip. Started with Margherita’s.. fantastic. Nice size and good taqula. Great good. You can’t go wrong.

Always a good time!!

I’m starting to go twice a week cause I meet such great ppl at the bar!! And never a bad meal!! Love the Beef& Pepper Chile Relleno Danielle❤️

A Reservation Is A Good Idea especially on Weekends

By theorize2 |

The Food was good and the service was Great. This is a good place for Couples, Friends, Family, Business or Solo. The Place is small but the atmosphere is nice, there is a small bar area. Self Parking is limited but no worries, there is a Valet so it's nice to know your car will be secured while you are eating. Food Portions are not very big but enough to satisfy your hunger. The Chips and Salsa are divine.

Great food

By Shinwaconsee |

It was a great experience ,the ribs were great the trout was great , the chips were warm and fresh the salsa was fresh , but the coffee was old and cold :( Please get an old Italian espresso machine and train a barista, that would finish it off beautifully, and by the way the two vale parking dudes were the best fun of the night we all laughed so hard our lungs hurt ! They are up for the sarcasm and they can give it back in perfect timing .

Enjoyed it all

By MrsBrewster |

Was seated within 15 minutes of arriving without a reservation. (5:45pm) My hubby and I were taken to the small upstairs area, where there was 1 table for 2 and 2 tables for 4. Our waiter, Malcolm, was very attentive. The food was splendid!! I ordered the lamb chops with mashed potatoes and asparagus, with a side of mac and cheese. The lamb chops (3) were very tender and juicy. The seasoning was great. The potatoes and asparagus were good. Now that mac and cheese, OMG, was like southern m & c, but with a twist. It was very delicious!! My mango margarita was good also. Hubby had the New York strip with mashed potatoes. He said that it was very tasty. Overall a great place and will definitely return. There was adequate parking and they have complimentary valet parking. The valet attendant had a hard time trying to park our vehicle. I don’t know if he actually knew how to drive a manual shift or if he was just nervous about being in a car that’s not your everyday average vehicle.

Great Service, but food was very salty

By Jennifer R |

Went here for our 2 year anniversary and got amazing service and great atmosphere for a romantic evening. The margarita's alone were worth the trip. The menu and food presentation were great but unfortunately everything we got was over salted. Hopefully it was simply a bad night or chef because we'd heard great things about the food.

I’ll be back

By Christofish63 |

Really enjoyed my visit - good choices on menu, food was excellent, and service too. (Thanks Erin). Seems like a popular local choice. Highly recommend if you like south western cuisine.

So Delicious!!

By Terriinthewoods |

We literally stumbled on to this restaurant when we were out searching for something else. We got some guacamole and chips to start. The we ordered a chopped salad w/chicken, cayenne fried chicken, street corn, and chile seared scallops. The service was awesome (thanks Heather) and the food was ridiculously amazing!! Wonderful experience!

Delicious food and drinks

By LeslieAnn356 |

I highly recommend Agave. The crawfish pasta was wonderful as was the passion fruit margarita. The peanut butter pie and cheesecake were very large slices and very good. The service was excellent too!

Good meal, great tamales

By Teresa M |

The appetizer special was a pork tamale and it was amazing. We enjoyed the green chili chicken burrito, steak, and scallops. The Keylime pie was good as well. It was quite loud and difficult to have a family conversation. Service was a bit slow.

Really good food

By Stephanie R |

The food is really good. I've ordered carry-out a few times, and I've liked each item. Parking is a challenge.

Overrated Southwestern Food

By Andrea E |

I've been in Atlanta for awhile and enjoy dining out. And really enjoy southwestern and Mexican food. I was excited about trying the restaurant but was not impressed. Most of the dishes my family ordered were bland (trout $18, scallops $24, mac & cheese $5, and calamari $9). Too costly for bland food and my family isn't one to send food back. The collard greens were sweet; sugar doesn't belong in greens, I'm sorry, it just doesn't and this is something that should be disclosed in the description on the menu or verbally expressed by the server. The most tasteful items were the guacamole, spring rolls, mexican rice, and grits (while the server said it wasn't spicy, it was and my sister couldn't eat it). The one entree that was flavorful was the one I picked, the Pork Verde Enchilada with fried egg. The server boasted about the Top Shelf margarita, but I was not impressed. It was tasteful if you desired a virgin margarita because that is what it seemed like I got. I've had better southwestern food and margaritas in my day and being a prior resident of Houston, TX, I am finicky.

Gotta try...went 3 times in 3 days!

By Michelle B |

We are from Alaska. I very rarely order fish from a restaurant, because we have our own...fresh. But I had the Seared Jumbo Diver Sea Scallops on our first visit and I was hooked. Our waiter was amazing, and we had to go back! The chips and salsa on the tables was so good...and I'm pretty picky about that as well, since I make my own. My husband had the Ancho Grilled Baby Back Ribs, and we didn't absolutely love them, but it didn't keep us from ordering dessert....TO. DIE. FOR! We had 2 and shared both. Key Lime Pie on a Peppery Ginger Crust and Belgian Chocolate Mousse with a Creme Angliase. SO DELICIOUS! We went back each night and had something different each time. And their margarita selection...13 different choices. Very good! We just happened upon this restaurant, trying to find our Airbnb after a long day of flying. We were so glad we went in and took a chance. It was close by our place, so that's why we made a point to eat there each night! So good! And they have valet parking!!!!

Vibes & Fresh Flavors

By Gemma R |

Agave is a destination. Located in the heart of Cabbagetown, this festive eatery has been blessing Atlanta with delicious fusion cuisine for 12 years. Walking into Agave is reminiscent of walking through a Southwestern city with Adobe styled decor and indoor telephone poles. You will feel transported out of Atlanta. The tables are candlelit with real fire candles, adding to the charm and romanticism of the restaurant. The drinks. Those are enough for me to come back to Agave. I drank the Mona Lisa Punch, aptly named because I could have drank a pitcher of this by myself. It was a sweet, juicy, passionfruit-forward cocktail that took away all my FOMO from not trying their margaritas. Though our group did try the margaritas and they were perfect, you have an incredible selection to choose from depending on your mood for the night. Fresh, different, and varied - the food at Agave was an exciting blend of seafood, pasta, and Tex-Mex. I tried the Diablo Crawfish pasta and a large plate of creamy spicy linguini came out of the kitchen garnished with a fresh green basil leaf. This plate had everything and my tastebuds were fully satisfied. We also tasted the fresh Homemade Guacamole, Grilled Street Corn, and Spicy Serrrano Tuna Crudo. Each of these items were a hit! The tuna of the Tuna Crudo was very fresh. Their website does not do this establishment justice. There is much more to see at Agave and it is a place worth visiting in multiplicity. Parking, however, is a disaster. You have to park multiple blocks away and walk to the door, so make sure you are in the right footwear. If you are looking for a cute date night or a new fresh flavors, check out Agave.

Wedding Rehearsal Dinner

By laurie910 |

This was the perfect venue for our daughter's wedding rehearsal dinner. The staff was excellent! They kept the food and margaritas coming until we could eat and drink no more! The food was terrific and the margaritas were quite strong (not a complaint)!

Best margaritas in town

By 518greek2me |

Had a fun time at agava in Ormond Beach! The margaritas are made fresh no mixes the food plentiful and the atmosphere fun and the servic was great. Loved the colorful interior with a small outdoor space to eat out if you like . Plenty of lighted parking since agava is situated in a large strip plaza. Prices were in a good range. The dishes are huge. Its a place anyone would like to go to.dress is casual. A great place to park your husband when you go shopping.

One of our Favorites

By tara |

My husband and I jones for Agave regularly. We aren't local, so every time we visit Atlanta and plan to try some new restaurants, we know that we have to leave room for a dinner at Agave! It gets packed so make a reservation for sure. The service here is really warm and attentive. The food is absolutely delicious. All of the soups are great but we especially love the hatch green chile stew. The fried chicken is amazing. Other favorites are the quesadilla, blue corn enchiladas, and ceviche. You can't go wrong here!

Service was stellar - food OK

By irinarachow |

The ambiance is great, service (our waiter) excellent, food was fine, not great IMO. The beef medallions had an off taste - wish I had ordered something else. Brussel Sprouts were good - probably could have been cooked a bit longer.

Excellent

By bremoor |

Been wanting to come here for a while based on feedback from others; it far exceeded my expectations; the food was great, I had the trout. Omg!! it was delicious, more than enough, I completely stuffed myself because I refused to throw any of it away.

Consistent Excellence to die for!

By Mog3 |

This restaurant has never failed to impress me with it;s smart, professional service and wonderfully tasty food choices. My favorite is the Cayenne fried chicken. full of flavor that is enhanced by the busy bustle of Cabbage Town and the outstanding clientele. The drinks are potent and creative and really delicious as well as volumetrically ample. "To die for " well it is across the street from Oakland . Cemetery, established 1850 and the resting place to many a civil war soldier, mayors, movers and even Margaret Marsh, oh , you know her as Margaret Mitchell!

Got A Suntan While Having Dinner

By Chuck C |

We had a great dinner. My only complaint was the overhead gas heater that never turned off. Omg , it was blazing hot. I felt like a rotisserie chicken. Our faces were actually burning when we left. This was our first visit and won't be our last. The appetizers were great , drinks were strong and entrees were spot on. Service was top notch. We liked the open kitchen. Parking was trouble free with valet parking. The menu is not your ordinary Tex Mex menu. They have a wide range of culinary choices. The chips and salsa are outstanding. We will be back but next time won't be sitting underneath the heat lamp.

GREAT FOOD!

By LUCILA T |

I Happen to be looking for a restaurant for a place nearby and I hit this gem! Great food and atmosphere!

Fantastic flavors

By dupetersentravel |

My wife and I took our Georgia Tech senior and two friends to dinner here last Saturday. The place was packed and smelled delicious inside. The hostess was prompt and courteous and our reservation time for our party of 5 was honored to the minute. Appetizers consisted of a homemade chorizo & veal meatball (wonderful), calamari (expertly prepared with a great jalapeno jelly dipping sauce), and a chicken quesadilla that was also quite good. The margaritas were all tasty, although the coconut one was a tad sweet. The house one was great. Entrees consisted of trout stuffed with crawfish, mushrooms, and onions, rack of lamb, herb and Chile rubbed diver scallops served over a spicy grits with honey bacon collard greens, braised short ribs, and lime and garlic marinated steak. Everyone raved about the flavors, the preparation, and the fun atmosphere; needless to say, everyone enjoyed their meals, but the diver scallops and lamb were the winners in our short poll. The restaurant was quite busy with a number of large parties, but Heather managed to pace the evening well and tend to us when needed. The room with the kitchen was quite loud making conversation difficult at times, but don’t let that deter you one bit. The atmosphere is great and you will enjoy the food and the entire experience immensely. We will be back.

If I'm on death row...

By Catherine C |

My husband and I went to Agave on a date night before a show at the Fox. I am somewhat of a foodie and this was by far the best meal I have ever had. If I am on death row I want the scallops with grits and collard greens. It was just incredible. We also had the spring rolls and guacamole, which were delicious. We both had the coconut lime margarita, which was fresh and smooth. Wow. Just wow.

Always Great!!!

Always good and very consistent food and service. We’ve been coming here for over 12 years!!! Love Agave!!!

Southwest Gem

By VMVMadison |

Most recently we dined at Agave on Saturday, September 29. It is a favorite restaurant of ours for its success at providing consistently impressive Southwest food and great service. The dining experience was wonderful from beginning to end, from being warmly greeted by the Host to the end of the meal with something sweet. Our good fortune was to arrive early and have a drink at the bar. Lisa, the bartender, is a delight. Her talent at drink preparation is impressive, and she is funny and friendly. Michael/Montoya, who was our Server, excels in Customer Service. He is well-informed about the menu. He exudes friendliness, warmth, helpfulness, and is attentive, showing genuine concern that we were enjoying the food and the dining experience. Food recommendations: The Salsa, offered compliments of the restaurant, is perfectly prepared, as are the Fresh Homemade Guacamole (simply the best in town) & Chips, Cayenne Onion Rings, Grilled Street Corn, Pulled Pork Verde Enchiladas, Cayenne Fried Chicken, and Cheesecake. If you are so inclined, the Margaritas are delicious. I enjoy the Traditional and my husband the Spicy Jalepeno. We highly recommend dining at Agave, and look forward to our next visit.

Southwest Gem

By VMVMadison |

Agave is a favorite restaurant of ours for its success at providing impressive Southwest food and great service. On this occasion we dined with friends, two of whom we introduced to Agave in the recent past, and two who were new to Agave. The dining experience was wonderful from beginning to end, from being warmly greeted by the Host to the end of the meal with something sweet. Heather, who was our Server, excels in Customer Service. We have had the good fortune to work with her in the past. She is well-informed about the menu. She exudes friendliness, warmth, helpfulness, and is attentive, showing genuine concern that we were enjoying the food and the dining experience. Food recommendations: The Salsa, offered compliments of the restaurant, is perfectly prepared, as are the Fresh Homemade Guacamole (simply the best in town) & Chips, Grilled Street Corn, The Special, Sea Bass, Pulled Pork Verde Enchiladas, Key Lime Pie and Spicy Peanut Butter Mousse Pie. If you are so inclined, the margaritas are delicious. I enjoy the Traditional and my husband the Spicy Jalepeno. We highly recommend dining at Agave, and look forward to our next visit.

Mediocre food

By evelyneb720 |

What a disappointment... I really don't get why some people rave about this place. The food we were served was mediocre and pricey. The salsa was very salty, our dishes were below average in quality and quantity. Not what you would expect when you read the other reviews...

Authentic and great food

By EmilyDH57 |

The food and service were both outstanding. The guacamole and Huevos Poblano are delicious appetizers. Adam provided wonderful service.

Spurge Night!

By DGCLgranny |

Went with DH on a Sunday at 5:00. Restaurant was not crowded, but glad we had reservations, because it was full by 5:45. We had guacamole with the complimentary, and plentiful chips and salsa. All were very good-get a large guacamole! Our waitress, Heather, was knowledgeable about both the bar and the food menu- helping us pick out margaritas No trouble substituting rum for the tequila for me ( one bad experience and you are off tequila for life 😜). DH had the rack of lamb and I had Scallops Diablo. We tasted each other's and declared both amazing! For dessert, he had the flourless chocolate cake and I had the flan. Both were good, but we agreed the flan was outstanding! Staff was exceptional, the hostess went out of her way to find us a table where I could stretch out after recent one surgery. What to know: Get a reservation- the online reservation works perfectly. Parking is valet, but even at 5:00 busy. Seating is close and as others have said it gets noisy. It wasn't unpleasant to us, but it's not the place for a romantic conversation!

Good Times at Agave

By Oceanzzz |

The food was great and Lisa the bartender was absolutely the best. She's very professional and extremely nice and efficient. I've been in the industry for over 20years and wiuld love to have someone as passionate about their job as she is... Thanks Lisa!

The best passion fruit margaritas

The restaurant is very cozy, the service was very good and the food is an exellent mix of flavors from mexico. We especially loved the flavor margaritas passion fruit, mango and others

Birthday celebration

By Nena S |

A Delight little corner place to have had dinner at. First off not hard to find, Second they have free valet parking. Next the Customer Service was the best from the front of the door to the back of the restaurant. Our waiter was awesome also very knowledgeable about everything on the menu and helpful. Ordering was not had at all. The drinks were nice and sexy with the atmosphere which is a plus in my book. Mango Margarita was the drink. Now I had one issue and it was the Southwestern Mac and cheese was not good the taste was off for me but to someone else they said it was good. To each it's own. I told the waiter and he was own it. He then asked me what can I do for you a what would you like to replace it with, I said the mashed potatoes would be good. Bam, it was there and good I might say. Thanks again agave for a well celebrated birthday for the party of 14. Will be back.

Food was amazing; service is lacking.

By girigamba |

We arrived 20 minutes early for our reservation, but were seated very quickly. The menu is what I would call "avant-guarde" Mexican- it was hard to choose, so we selected and shared several appetizers. Both the appetizers and the entrees were EXCELLENT. Top-notch cuisine. The strange thing was: the waitress, while smiling and friendly, seemed totally uninterested in taking more business from us. When asking for drinks and appetizers, she was impatient while we decided, and when it came time to take our orders (for 3 people), she walked away from the table after taking the order of only 2 of us. I had to call her back to complete the order. After we ordered dessert, she didn't ask if we wanted anything else- if she had, we would have ordered another round of tequilas as a chaser!. Very strange.

Delicious food with a chill atmosphere

By livelife h |

This is my second time going to agave and the food was just as delicious. I got this take this time season very well the mashed potatoes in the macaroni and cheese were delicious. Staff had on gloves and mask.

Try the Trout and Fried Lobster

By bhlraven1916 |

They featured this restaurant on Atlanta Eats. Not a bad choice. We had the Spicy Fried Lobster for an appetizer. I had the Trout and it was great. The collard greens were a little too sweet. My girlfriend had the New Mexico Burrito and Stew. She didn't care for stew as it didn't taste fresh. The margarita was not to bad. Prices were reasonable and no military discount.

Awesome eats!

By Michael G |

Excellent menu and drinks. We all got different dishes - chipotle fried chicken, lamp chops, spicy meat loaf, lobster tail. Everything was excellent. Really enjoyed the experience!

Enjoyed the Meal, Nice Evening

By jackiem07 |

We dined at this restaurant on Saturday, and we really enjoyed the meal which included short ribs for both of us. It was seasoned very well and very tasty. The atmosphere is warm and inviting. The service is good, but not great. Still, we'd definitely return again.

Too loud to enjoy good food

By Jennie |

We wanted to love Agave and if the ambiance had been less thunderous we would have given it 5 stars. Even before we were sandwiched between to moderate sized, super talkative groups we observed how loud the back room was. Maybe the tile flooring contributes. Daughter had the absolute best fried chicken ever and this is no exaggeration: moist and flavorful with a crispy outer layer that didn’t taste like oil. I had salmon and appreciated the julienned squashes with it. We opted for guacamole and in the future would skip— it wasn’t bad or good just unremarkable.

Dinner for three

By kimtong21 |

Came here for some Southwestern fare and for a late birthday celebration with friends. I had one of their famous margaritas, that did the trick. Tasty and full of tequila. Great experience on the patio. We had the enchiladas, the braised beef and another dish that escapes me. Obviously that dish didn't get me. The braised beef was very tasty and was so tender. Yum. Will come again.

Great Food & Service! Scary Waiting Area!

By Colette L |

The service was excellent. Our waitress was very attentive. The food was great. I'd recommend the short ribs, lime & garlic marinated flat steak, agave meatball, sweet corn and the smoked chicken & hatch green chile quesadillas. This is what we had and we were stuffed but it was sooo good! My only negative feedback would be regarding the waiting area outside. The restaurant door is very close to the curved road that has lots of traffic including semi trucks. I was a bit nervous standing out there while trucks were making that turn, some kind of fast.

So much more than Mexican

By Joanne L |

The restaurant has a rustic sort of decor. There are 3 rooms and a small one upstairs. The margaritas are delicious as are the chips and guacamole. The trout stuffed with onions, mushrooms and other veggies was delicious. So was the ceviche. They handle crowds well and all servers were delightful. Only downside was the large cockroach on the floor.

"Year of Good Karma"Tequila dinner was out of this world!!!

By Bruce B |

We've never had a bad bite! From regular dinners out too the Good Karma Tequila dinner on Wednesday last week. 5 courses, A margarita as we checked to be seated and the fun began! A 2nd margarita, Asparagus soup then a jalapeno margarita, Braised beef short-rib w/red chili port reduction and wilted winter greens, Brussels sprouts, potato and cauliflower salad w/ mustard vinaigrette, another margarita, Jumbo Shrimp and diver scallops over Stilton blue cheese grits. And at last desert Blackberry cream cheese tart with a snifter of Karma Anejo... The End.................... of another great meal!

Way too noisy, average food

By Ralph W |

I had eaten here a couple of years ago and the dishes were exceptionally good, nicely seasoned, well-prepared. This experience was very different. To start with the noise level is not at all conducive to conversation. While the service was friendly and pleasant, our server was overworked and spread thin. As for the food - not remarkable and mediocre at best. My soup starter (Chicken Poblano) was the best part of the meal.

Great Meal

By Southern Traveler |

Great spot a little off the beaten path in Atlanta. Perfect for visitors or locals looking for a great new spot for Mexican/Southwestern cuisine. This is a restaurant best suited to adults, in my opinion, although we did see kids there. The menu is packed with more dishes than you can imagine, making this a much more enjoyable dinner than the traditional Tex-Mex located in your nearby shopping mall. Our group sampled everything from Tacos, to steak, and even wings (for the diner who doesn't enjoy Mexican food). The great news is that there is something for everyone, including dishes you may have never tried before. Staff was attentive and friendly. My rating is four stars only because we waited a very long time for food and we intentionally went early to avoid the dinner crowd. We will definitely dine here again, looking for a five-star experience. If you want Mexican, I would give Agave a try.

Southwest with a flair

By kent b |

When you walk in you're greeted by a friendly staff. You have the options of sitting at the bar in front of various options of tequila or at a comfy table. You start off with fresh, homemade chips and salsa. They have a wide variety of appetizers, entrees, and delicious desserts. I would suggest the chocolate mousse or spicy peanut butter mousse pie. Both are sweet options to top off a fantastic dinner. Wide variety of cocktails, including a peach margarita, that will leave you wanting refill after refill. Would recommend calling in a reservation in advance. The restaurant can fill up quickly.

Delicious food, great service

We came to Tybee for a week, and tried Agave tonight. We were pleasantly surprised. The food quality is excellent, and there is more than enough to satisfy. Will be happy to go back!

Cozy Place

Nice Southwest Mex, cozy place, appropriate social distancing, some tasty food and nice margarita's, they donot skimp on the Tequila.

Anniversary 10

By Sabrina K |

It was a great place to celebrate our 10th Anniversary. The ambiance was nice; not to dark and they have us complimentary champagne. Thanks he food was superb and did not have a long wait for it to arrive at our table. There were lots of enticing choices on the menu so we will be back way before the next decade.

At the Intersection of Mexican, Southwestern and American

By rfreeman2015 |

The taste buds were crying out for Mexican, and Algave was Trip Advisor's #1 in the category. So I set forth to the popular eatery in Atlanta's historic Cabbagetown neighborhood. The beverage menu offered many tequilas, vinos and beers, and I selected Sol, a Mexican beer. Then arrived the requisite salsa and chips. The salsa provided the first hint of Agave's premier quality. It was outstanding with just the right amount of "kick." So far, so Mexican. Then I opened the menu, and it predictably led off with a burrito, a taco and enchiladas. But they were followed with a slew of American dishes--baby back ribs, swordfish, fried chicken, salmon filet and New York strip steak. The common thread running through these dishes is most but not all of them are prepared with southwestern ingredients: the ribs are topped with ancho chile barbecue sauce; the swordfish is sautéed in lime chipotle sauce; the fried chicken is graced with a poblano drizzle; the trout is served with roasted tomatillo sauce. The food together with the Adobe décor seem to position Agave as American with a southwestern flair and a nod to Mexico. My dinner started with the tomato avocado salad, a mix of high-quality lettuce, tomato and avocado with citrus dressing, and a spicy ranch drizzle. It was fresh and delicious with just the right amount of dressing. The main course was tenderloin medallions accompanied by mashed potatoes, fried cayenne onions and grilled zucchini, artfully presented, perfectly cooked and truly delicious. My server Paul was knowledgeable about the menu and appeared at all the right times. Agave proved to be one of Atlanta's premier dining destinations.

Excellent Southwestern cuisine with outstanding service.

By Cindy K |

Our food was amazing. Not the usual Mexican fare. Great variety and everything we ordered was exceptional. The salmon with zucchini noodles was so flavorful and healthy too. Our sever was very efficient. The valet attendant saw us coming out of the restaurant and ran for our car before we even gave him the ticket. Fantastic service all around. This was not our first time and it won't be the last.

Delicious, but skip the guacamole

By Kimberly S |

A friend & I dined here on a busy Friday night. The service and food were excellent. For an appetizer, we ordered the Ceviche Martini which was described as "chopped gulf shrimp & sashimi tuna over organic greens marinated in lime, oil, serranos & cider vinegar" This was also very good and was plenty for two. For my entree, I had the Seared Jumbo Diver Sea Scallops which I would highly recommend. Several tables around us had the homemade guacamole, so we decided to get a half order with chips. It was very disappointing; flat tasting and uninspiring. We spiced it up ourselves with spices, condiments and salsa form our appetizers. The guacamole looked great, but I would recommend skipping it unless you prefer basic smashed avocados and not much else. Our server was attentive and we never lacked drinks, water or attention. The restaurant was completely full and we fortunately booked a reservation through Open Table. This is a hip, happening restaurant and you'll wait for a table unless you snag a reservation. Overall this was a fantastic experience and I'm looking forward to visiting Agave the next time I'm in Atlanta.

"Check SHOCK"

By Alice H |

My check was $75 for a cup of soup $6 and shot of tequila $52.50(tip&tax)...I'm HOT! I ended up with soup after ordering Sesame sashimi tuna which was bland and tasteless, the tuna was rubbery. I attribute this lack luster and costly experience to the server, he was not helpful nor informative, server didn't disclose price of the tequila nor that the check couldn't be split, which should have been disclosed when we were seated, a party of 7 I wouldn't recommend AGAVE for the food!

Agave Atlanta, GA

By Sue1851 |

This is our absolute favorite Atlanta, GA restaurant!! They have a gourmet Tex/Mex Theme with a southern flare. Steaks, Seafood and Lamb Chops to die for! Have never had anything that wasn't absolutely wonderful! Service is excellent as well and velvet parking. Dress is nice casual. So you can be comfortable while you try all of their specialties. If you are so inclined they have an awesome collection of tequila. All of their drinks are excellent as well. Don't miss this restaurant if you are coming to Atlanta. You will regret it!

Horrible food

By Henry Perlowski |

The food was absolutely awful. The salmon is - no kidding - canned salmon. The shrimp tasted old and was probably frozen. Even the enchiladas were bad. They are also understaffed. Will never be back.

Very Pleased

By 803glennc |

My wife and I moved to the area a few months ago and this spot has been by far the our favorite. The fish was very fresh and the service was great. We can't wait to go back.

Fabulous food in a beautiful restaurant.

By ingrid |

My father and I both agreed to have been served the best dinners we had had in a very long time. Exquisitely prepared food with well-balanced flavors, served beautifully. The service was excellent and we felt welcome from the moment we walked in the door. It is clear that the owners/ chefs are putting their hearts and souls into this restaurant! The atmosphere is enchanting and you feel as if you are sitting in one of the finest restaurants in Santa Fe, New Mexico. I highly recommend Agave!

Ahhhh Agave!!

By ParisgalChicagoIL |

I discovered this gem years ago prior to my market visit and loved returning again after four years....and it is still superb! I dined lightly on smoked salmon tostados and cider scented collard greens with a little key lime pie for dessert. All divine!

Great Meal

By Dream110127 |

My wife and I went out to dinner at Agave. The food was AWESOME and the wait staff were excellent. I will eat there again.

A must try when in Atlanta

By Nori W |

Love this place! The coconut margarita is awesome! Food and service was amazing. Get the steak with the creamed corn.

Wonderful Mexican Food

By MaryB428 |

Wonderful restaurant, great new menu and terrific service. Will definitely be coming back, highlights were Cayenne fried chicken and flat iron steak. Try the spicy margarita too!

Destination Restaurant!!

By Amber L |

The Best in every way. I drive two hours just to have an Agave “fix” at least 6 times a year. And that is not enough. The staff, the food, the experience is what every restaurant should strive for. Our visits will be more frequent, simply because Tim Pinkham and his crew exceeded our expectations last visit and made our night very special. Thank you Tim for the hospitality and having our favorite destination restaurant. Scallops, Cayenne Fried Chicken, NY strip, Lam chops, Salmon, Serrano grits, quesadillas, Street corn, poblano chicken soup, and filet medallions, all margaritas are just some of the dishes we’ve tried and all amazing.

Great food, subpar service.

By Andy B |

The restaurant and food was fantastic but the service was shoddy. We were celebrating a birthday and date night. I made sure to include notes in my reservation and to staff. We were not even acknowledged by the first host we encountered. The restaurant was not full and it was not near closing time. We were being rushed through our meal. The server was attempting to take our plates while we were still eating at the table. After being rushed through the meal, they tried to push extra drinks and to go desserts on us just to squeeze more money from us before pushing us out the door. I would recommend the food but just get it to go because the service does not compliment the food or ambiance.

Not as good as I was expecting.

By Daniel C |

Not as good as I was expecting. The main dishes were very bland. Salsa and guacamole we very cilantro forward and the main dishes lacked salt and pepper. I ordered the cayenne fried chicken. The chicken was cooked well but the breading was falling off and lack flavor. The waitress did a good job but the food just lacked seasoning.

Mucho gusto!!

By Michael D |

Great food with ample portions. Very reasonably priced. Good atmosphere. A little loud but able to carry on a conversation. Alcohol pours were small a a bit high priced. Had a great dinner.

Great food and drinks!

By mirangel2123 |

Great food and drinks! Had a peach margarita. For an appetizer, had southwest shrimp egg rolls - delicious! My friend had the beef medallions and I had the Tequila shrimp. They were all really good. When we arrived, free valet parking. Casual dress. Very nice greeter and wait staff. Chips and salsa - homemade. So good! Want to return to try guacamole next.

Don't Choose the Loft

By JadaLCofield |

I'm giving this restaurant 3 stars because of the seating. Unfortunately, we reserved seating two days prior to our dinner. We arrived early and we're sat immediately in the Loft area of the restaurant not by choice. Initially we thought it was nice. The space was small and intimate. However, there was a door that kept opening and men kept coming out of it. We were finally told it was the office of the restaurant. With the space being so small it was really a disruption to our outing and birthday celebration. Several people walked in and out of this door throughout the evening and passed our table in the small space. So as a warning make sure not to be seated in this area. Having said that the food was delicious and the service was great! Complimentary valet parking is available which is very helpful. The restaurant is loud. I do recommend Agave for a nice fun night out on the town!

Great Southern Hospitality

By David F |

Magnificent Margaritas and an excellent menu. Salads are hearty, the smoked salmon tostada was terrific, and the lobster tails looked mouthwatering. The short ribs melted in the mouth and the succulent scallops were delicious. We had the key lime pie because of the rain outside and it was really tasty. The staff were very friendly and most helpful. Overall a real Southern treat with a Mexican twist. Highly recommended.

Southwest Gem

By VMVMadison |

My husband and I dined at Agave on Saturday, July 22nd, for the third time. And, they did not disappoint. The decor is attractive. The food is flavorful and attractively plated. The service is excellent. Food Recommendations: Cayenne Onion Rings (a little warmth in a very good way), Guacamole, Cayenne Fried Chicken, Street Corn, Shrimp Anejo, Grits, and of course, Traditional Margarita and Jalepeno Margarita. Heather was the Server, and exuded friendliness and helpfulness. She was attentive without hovering. She made the dining experience perfect. Agave has become one of our favorite restaurants! Look forward to returning in August, bringing our son and daughter-in-law who are visiting from Wisconsin.

Truly delicious- A top recent meal!

By PalmSpringsCA |

This was truly an incredibly delicious meal. I cannot believe how amazing it was actually, and am still thinking about it a week later! The ambiance is great as well! We started with some margaritas, of which there was a nice variety and chips and salsa that we could not put down. We then got some guacamole that was apparently quite luscious. Our big group, handled quite adeptly by our friendly waiter and other support staff, ordered fantastic entrees that everyone is still talking about 1 week later. The only issue was they were out of the 1st two items I wanted. Nevertheless the beef medallion-type dish I had was fantastic as well as the delicious corn and everything else that came with it. I raved and raved about Agave to so many people at the conference I was at and I hope many of them then had the opportunity to imbibe and chow down! I would come here right off the plane next time in town!

Great wait staff and food

I attended a group dinner for a business trip. I really liked the atmosphere in the fireplace room. The food and waitstaff were incredible. Well worth the drive from downtown.

Won't waist time and money

By J W |

My wife and I use to come here on a regular bases many years ago and were always pleased. So my wife and I recommend to meet with several friends for a small Christmas gathering of 5 people. We were sooooo disapointed when we arrived and were seated in an area so nasty. There was something so sticky on the floor and standing joints between the tiles. To add insult the nasty area. They sat 5 adults at 2 very small tables in a nasty corner. None of the food described on the menu was served to our table. The spring rolls had VERY little ingredients in them, they were so greasy. I had 4 margaritas and not one would I nor anyone else consider a good one. This restaurant is suppose to be know for awesome margaritas and good. That was the way we use to remember it. So sad to revisit Agava and find it in this horrible situation. AND THERE IS NO WAY SOMEONE CAN CONVINCE ME IT'S DUE TO COVID. There is No excuse for what we endured last night. A lot of waisted time and money.

Real Mexican Food

By OleMissbanker |

The place really reminded me of Rick Bayless’s Frontera in Chicago. More Mexican/New Mexico style than Tex Mex. The parole was OUTSTANDING. I had the lamb, great. Wife had the fish cakes. The starter offer a Tapas type option. Near Eastern Theatre in Cabbagetown neighborhood.

Love the food!!!

By layondran |

I went there on a Saturday night I love the fried grit cake it's my favorite. The margarita selections are very tasty and the salsa is fresh made.. you can't go wrong choosing this restaurant.

Another great meal at Agave

By shelleylynn |

We come here every time we are in Atlanta. Great nachos and guacamole, good drinks and amazing food. We shared the Cajun chicken and it was a huge portion. Chicken was hot and crispy, and seasoned just right. We shared the chocolate ganache cake and it was amazing. This place is always on point, with excellent service and consistently good food.

To wait or not to wait

By Juliet G |

I was not happy with the wait (only because I saw open tables).. I understand about what goes on behind the scene when it comes to seating customers. However, as a paying patron, all we care about is the ambiance, first expression, service, and food. It's not my problem to understand the process or what goes on behind the scenes. Nevertheless, regarding the quality of the food... good portion serving, the food was tasty and flavorful. I ordered the Tenderloin Medallions the meat was cooked as requested, tender, tasty, and appetizing. My husband ordered the Pulled Pork Verde Enchiladas, he liked it but he said the pork was dry . The Southwestern Macaroni & Cheese was to die for! Waiter was OK.. (he did forget my husband's order on cocktails) no complaints.. I would have preferred to sit in the front of the restaurant considering there was open tables... that was a disappoint (first impression and quality service) considering it was our first time at Agave.

Excellent Mexican Food With A Unique Flare

By Meeniemar |

After reading reviews & seeing pictures of the plates had to get there while we were in town for the Eagles Game. Not disappointed...the choices everyone in our group of 6 had were great! Better then expected. I had the fish tacos and the flavors with the first bite made my mouth water. Quesadillas were cheesy & seasoned perfectly. Pasta with Crawfish was rich & full of flavor. The Marguerites were sooo good! Only criticism, and I may sound picky here, but the service although attentive was a bit too fast...we felt rushed. In & out in a little over an hour! It was loud so don’t plan on an intimate evening of conversation, but go if you want Mexican food with a unique touch & wonderful flavors.

Amazing Food and Service

By MJMOhio |

We are in Atlanta for business and visited Agave due to TA reviews. We certainly were not disappointed. Amir was our waiter and gave great recommendations and service. The margaritas (we had both Top Shelf and Smoking Hot) were wonderful. Guacamole appetizer was flavorful. Entree of scallops with grits and collard greens was incredible. Pork enchiladas (at Amir’s recommendation) were also wonderful. Overall we couldn’t have been more pleased. We only wish we would be in town longer.
