YUMMY MOROCCAN

By Brenda B |

Our 1st time with Moroccan cuisine and we were HAPPY! The Owner is very humble and wonderful. He told us that Aicha is his mother's name :) Food was AMA-ZIIIIIIIIIIIIING!!! Flavors were ON THE SPOT delicious. Hubby and I shared a Pot of Moroccan mint tea I had the Veggie Tagine with Rice Hubby had veggie Couscous Will we come back - YES!!! Definitely!!!

Don't miss their lamb tagine

By Vladimir G |

My first time there, but I'll definitely come back! Lamb Tagine with prunes & almonds was amazing! Probably one of the best lamb dishes I've ever tried. It was also very reasonably priced - $13 for the dish. The wait time was a little bit too long (about 30 minutes), I should have ordered appetizers but food was amazing so I don't care about waiting. I've also got mint tea and baklava.

Tasty Kebabs and Bastilla

By twins1_11 |

Met co-workers for lunch and was impressed by the meal served. The Chicken Bastilla was just right, thin pastry filled with a chicken mixture. The chicken kebabs were tasty and perfect with the spicy sauce served. They may get crowded as the place is small and it sounds like they have a following!!

Excellent lamb!

By Laura Besser |

I had the vegetarian bastilla as an appetizer. The portion was huge and I can highly recommend it to all vegetarians out there. Main course was the lamb tagine with peas. Lamb was deliciously perfect. Service was super friendly as well. You are missing out if you are not going to check it out.

It was dead when we got here on a Friday afternoon. Had an eggplant appetizer, a beef kebab, and Lamb Tangine, all of which were average. Not a place that makes me give it a second chance.

great food

By doll l |

my review is going to be semi-biased, I was in Morocco so I know what food Moroccan food tastes like. I had the chicken tagine which was falling off the bones. the service was just eh, but it seemed like there was only one person waiting tables and the restaurant (for a Monday night) was quite busy. follow me on instagram @thehalaaltraveler

Great flavours

By GeoffandTiff |

Ate at this restaurant tonight. Had a chicken kebab and a lamb tangine. The lamb tangine was like a lamb shank the meat was incredibly tasty and just fell of the bone. The chicken kebab had great flavours and the chicken melted in the mouth. The service was OK, the only negative was I believe I may have been seated under the air-con and it was a bit cold so I would avoid the first 2 tables on the left.

Delicious!

By lah123 |

We ran in shortly before they closed on a weeknight and had a delicious meal! A small but warm and nicely appointed space. The trio appetizer and the vegetarian tagine were wonderful!

Affordable meal with excellent flavors. Don't miss the lamb tagine.

Outstanding authentic Moroccan cuisine

By Sam S |

Everything I look for in a restaurant -- warm and inviting service, an authentic menu, affordable pricing, and absolutely delicious. It is BYO with no corkage fee, so bring a bottle of wine and get ready for an absolutely fabulous taste of Morocco!

the best plates

After a very long cold day discovering SF, we were so hungry that we decided to get some moroccan Food... We were not disappointed, we had lentils and lamb tagine and moroccan tea. Everything was delicious. The place is so cozy and chill, and the gentlemen were very nice and helpful. This restaurant serves the authentic morrocan food which is amazing.

OMG I Didn’t Realize Moroccan Food Was So Good

By Heather M |

This place was recommended to us and boy were they right. This turned out to be the best meal we had our entire vacation. It is a tiny little place with a handful of tables but the minute you walk in the smells were so mouthwatering you couldn’t wait to eat. Their mint tea was amazing and warmed us up after a cold walk there. The lamb tagine was spectacular with all the right warm spices to make it just dance on your tongue. The service was excellent, and it was remarkably reasonably priced. We would highly recommend this restaurant.

Tasty & Tasteful

By RaySF |

Second time at Aicha and the food is great. Anything on the menu will be a delight. The space is small but comfortable. The staff is nice.

Fast service, hearty, tasty food, great value

By GreenIT |

If you're having trouble deciding where to go - go here. If you are a vegetarian, it's especially good but also good for carnivores (my wife). We both thoroughly enjoyed our meal which came fast and hot. It was tasty and filling and barely made a dent in our budget. They clearly know what they are doing and do it well in this small comfortable restaurant. We'll be back.

Great find!

By Korylea L |

I haven't eaten Moroccan food before, but it has quickly become a favorite! Cozy intimate interior. The owner greeted everyone at the door, very pleasant. Delightful, aromatic food. I highly recommend my entire meal: Mint Tea; Chicken Bastilla appetizer; and Tagine Lamb with prunes & almonds (meat fell off the bone - so tender). I will definitely be returning!

Wow, surprised by how great our meal was!

By Sbarnett1474 |

We spent a week in SF and were looking for a Moroccan restaurant, well we found a gem. We both had the lamb tagine and it was fall off the bone delicious! Perfectly seasoned and cooked, with bread and couscous and, of course Moroccan mint tea. A great meal for a very moderate price.

Unassuming restaurant that cooks up a storm!

By RYN_Nyc |

I have Moroccan origins and am very critical of this type of food. We were delighted with the chicken bastilla and the savory leg of lamb. The restaurant is small and the decor is basic and not very fancy but the food makes up for it. The staff is friendly and will help guide you if you are not familiar with the cuisine. If you are not familiar with Moroccan cuisine, beware that this type of food is rich in a variety of spices... if you like Indian cuisine, you will most likely enjoy this cuisine too.

Amazing food

By DE5 |

We found this place by accident & were very glad we did. The waitress was very attentive & nothing was too much trouble. The food was delicious & there was a good choice on the menu. I would highly recommend them if you like Moroccan food.

Very good

By Antonio P |

We came from France, where we have plenty of good Morrocan restaurants. This one is a good one, whith real north african cuisine. And the price is very reasonable to. Liked it !

To morrocan cuisine this is what military music is to music

By Edouard T |

This restaurant prepares food for people living in the vicinity, looking for inexpensive meal. But it has nothing to do with the savour of true morrocan cocking. The pastilla is an ersatz, the salads are hard, the chicken of the tagine has no taste at all. The service is poor, tables not confortable. But again, it is not an expensive place.

Down-to-earth Moroccan restaurant

By EdieBerry |

My review is based on having lived in Morocco for a few years. If you want a Moroccan restaurant without hype and without belly dancers (not a very Moroccan thing anyway), this is your place. As vegetarians, we sampled only the non-meat dishes. The lentils with olives were amazing: tasty and filling. The carrots a la charmoula were excellent, but the portion was disappointingly small. The vegetarian bastilla was good, just not "wow" (the chicken version is more typical). The harira (soup) could have been heartier (thicker, richer), and the bread heartier too (less white, more wheat). The mint tea was precisely right in taste and sweetness, but the teapots are so small!! I'd have to order 2-3 pots to be satisfied...This is probably the best low-key Moroccan restaurant in SF at this time, and overall "close enough" to go back for more.

Casablanca. (Thought Bogart would walk in any minute.)

By OrygunDuck |

Well, not really. But the food and service was great. I have eaten here twice now and loved it. The lunch specials are a good value. That Bastilla appetizer which is a sweet chicken dish and rather unique to this type of cuisine was perfect.

Mouthwatering

By Heather R |

I came here for dinner with a friend recently, and we shared a cold vegetable starter plate and a lamb tagine with some couscous. They were both so delicious - the lamb was shanks, just falling off the bone, so flavorful and tender. And the vegetables were just perfect - my mouth is watering thinking about them. Service was perfectly serviceable - not super-friendly but certainly sufficient. I would love to come here again.

Great food, okay service

By Dave M |

We had a relatively large party of 10 for lunch in an otherwise-empty restaurant. The food took a while to come out but was very tasty and fresh. I'd definitely go back!

Excellent lamb tagine!

By anneflood987 |

This restaurant was recommended to us by a tour guide and we really enjoyed the food. We do not get to experience moroccon style food often as we are from Ireland so this was a lovely treat. The lamb was so tender it just fell of the bone. Delicious. We were also aware in advance that alcohol is not sold here but you can bring your own wine or beer (no hard liquor). Great value 👌 gorgeous lamb 👌

Excellent Moroccan Food

By Susan S |

Loved this neighborhood restaurant with authentic Moroccan cuisine, good service and a very friendly waiter. The portion sizes are huge and tasty!

Friendly, tasty, but not special.

By Larry L |

Sought out Aicha Moroccan Cuisine for an early Moroccan dinner during the week. It was not busy, but a few of the tables were filled throughout my dinner. Service was friendly, quick and good. I had the traditional Moroccan dishes I wanted and had not had in a number of years, Chicken Bastilla and Lamb Tagine. They were tasty yes, but not really special or memorable. Prices were very good, about $28 for my two dishes, as I remember.

Authentic Moroccan Cooking

By Pippiduck |

After returning from a fascinating 3-week trip to Morocco I was craving Moroccan food, especially bastilla and chicken tagine. An excellent bastilla is not easy to find, even in Morocco. I found the best ones in Fes and the surrounding areas. So you can imagine how thrilled I was to bite into the chicken bastilla at Aicha. It was outstanding -- and I learned that the owner/chefs were from a city near Fes (Meknes). That was the start to an excellent meal that I enjoyed from start to finish -- home made bread, well-seasoned tagines and couscous (with cinnamon and raisins). Every dish was well-prepared, home-cooked, fresh and delicious. Our server, son of the owner, was very attentive and helpful. He even offered a taste of the merguez when I was curious as to what it might be like. Aicha is a very casual and unpretentious place. I look forward to returning to Aicha whenever back in SF and I'm delighted to know that I don't have to go all the way to Morocco to have authentic Moroccan food. Also, dishes are reasonably priced and you can bring your own wine. A gem! Thank you, Aicha -- Reda and Mohammed

Excellent food, genuine customer service

By aminega |

This place is a non pretentious and offers a great variety of Moroccan food reasonably priced. The Owner does most of the work and juggles between Kitchen and customers for an authentic experience. We enjoyed the Bastilla and Lamb chops... Highly recommend it.

Hearty and Properly Prepared

By David N |

Nothing fancy, but tagines and kabob with appropriate sized portions, fresh ingredients, and cooked just right. Tasty without being particularly spicy.

Great Authentic Moroccan Cuisine

By ivenose |

I ate at Aicha's on May 14, 2019 with three friends. Even though it was the month of Ramadan (when Muslims fast from morning to dusk) we were served great lamb tagine and great merguez couscous. I'd highly recommend it to anyone, even those not familiar with Moroccan cuisine.

Great find - authentic & tasty Moroccan food

By WinchesterBobo |

We visited last night as a family of four and enjoyed what we felt was the best restaurant meal on our 3 week US holiday. When we arrived, most of the tables were occupied by a variety of diners - but there's quite a relaxed feel to the place. Aicha serves authentic & tasty Moroccan food that's reasonably priced. The restaurant is fairly small and cozy and nicely decorated - pictures of Essaouria and other Moroccan references. Service was very good. Recommend both versions of the lamb tagine (think slow-cooked lamb shank), Bastilla and desserts including baklava (sweet pastries found throughout Greece, Turkey, mid-East & North Africa) and Moroccan mint tea served with a flourish to accompany the food. May well be back again tonight... No beer/wine but understand you can byob - others did.

Love this place!

By kno1218a |

I visit this restaurant often when I finish work. The portions are great and the price is very reasonable. I do the kabob platter and it's always delicious.

Late night, something different, and YUM!

By Lisa K |

Coming to SF from LA, you know that the food will be good, but that you also are travelling from somewhere with good food too (Read: high standards), so when we set out at 9:00 on a Saturday looking for something good and local in the Nob Hill Area (Read: not that nice of a neighborhood), we didnt know what we might find. We came across Aicha and after the smell grabbed our attention, the prices got us in the door. The waitress recommended a Bastilla appetizer, which I hadn't ever heard of before and when she set a giant pie dusted with sugar and cinnamon I was very dubious...until I tasted it. OH YUM. It was so UNIQUE, and savory and the filling was just the perfect proportion to the crust...just, yes. We got kebobs and shared, one chicken and one steak, which both came with couscous and a salad. The hot tea was served with flair by a gentleman (the owner?), I was never left to see the bottom of my water glass thanks to the excellent service, and our food came fast (and we ate EVERYTHING). My boyfriends sister lives in this area and I have already made her promise me that she will try it too and take her friends. My only gripe is that I wish their menu was a little more extensive, but that's a pretty great problem for a restaurant to have.

Great food quality and taste

Chez Aicha

By LDGM |

For year’s San Francisco’s go to Morrocan restaurant was the late great Pasha on Broadway and Polk. Once that shuttered there were only a few other places none of which captured the mood of conviviality that was the hallmark of that restaurant. After reading about Aicha it moved to the top of my must try soon list and I am so glad I did. The title of my review is Chez Aicha because I really did feel like I was in someone’s home having a great home cooked meal. The restaurant is unpretentious but does have simple décor reflecting its origins. You come here to eat and eat we did. The service was pleasant and accommodating. We started with the trio of salads which consisted of a platter of zaalook (grilled eggplant mashed with a savory sauce) , taktouka (grilled bell peppers and tomatoes in olive oil and spices) and carrots a la chermoula. Each was distinct, delicious and nicely presented. The carrots had some subtle heat too. Next came the chicken Bastilla, perhaps the best I have ever had. One could certainly make a meal just of this heavenly dish but we split it up as an appetizer and one is perfect for two-three people to split. The aromatics, nuts and spices were just beautifully balanced with a slight hint of honey sweetening the mix covered with delicate filo dough dusted with sugar and cinnamon. For main courses we chose two classic tagines – lamb with prunes and almonds and chicken with preserved lemon and olives. Both were first rate. The lamb was entire lamb shank on the bone and the chicken serving was two quarters. We held back from ordering a full couscous entrée and went with the couscous with cinnamon and raisins instead which was a perfect complement to the tagines. One of our group had the Kefta Kebab plate which was delicious and well seasoned. The plate was garnished with saffron rice and house green salad with beets, feta and red onions. The restaurant does not serve alcohol but is very accommodating about providing wine glasses for those who bring their own bottle (no corkage fee). We complemented our wine with fresh mint tea served from traditional Morrocan metal tea pots. Last but not least we tried the two deserts, a vanilla flan with strawberry coulis and a plate of three mini baklava pastries. We can’t wait to go back and try other items on the menu. They do work with some local food delivery services and also provide catering services.

The Real Deal

By Jetdriver21 |

Cautiously optimistic about another Moroccan place here in the US - I took a chance - and what a find! Having been to Morocco many times, I was delighted to discover this tiny little gem near my hotel. The food has not been diluted to 'American' tastes and boasts an incredible authentic menu - right down to the mind tea (a fav of mine). Explore the menu - dive in and try it all - thank me later. It's all good!!

Dinner

By Danielle B |

A lovely restaurant for dinner, last night I ordered the chix tangine and my friend ordered the lamb meatballs, both dishes were delicious, the servings were ample and the food was fresh , lovely ambience and friendly staff thankyou

Great!

By Johnny Trekkie |

I love finding a good, low key, family run Hole In The Wall restaurant. Inside has nicely done murals painted on the walls, some worn out seating, some lighting that could use improvement...but you're here for the tasty food that won't break the bank. The staff, a single gentleman, was friendly and energetic at the end of Sunday night. $20 Lamb Tagine with Prunes & Almonds...a nice thick, meaty, tender, fall of the bone hunk of lamb. The flat bread was light, fluffy, and thicker than a typical pita...a perfect vessel for dipping in the tagine sauces. So delicious! $22 Mix Kebab Platter Couscous...DEI at its finest? A lovely mix of grilled Chicken, Beef, Lamb, and sausage all living in harmony, on top of generous pile of cous cous and garbanzo beans. Quite good! But the lamb is better.

Interesting

By helpfulharold |

Huh, odd that every review I've seen of this place mentions that it's dead when they get there. It was dead when we were there, too. This is the type of place where you can't choose between getting a meal and just getting a whole ton of appetizers. The food is close enough to Greek/Lebanese that you won't feel like you're in too deep, but it's far enough away that you get an interesting selection.

"Amazing"

By Anjum |

Delicious food, serving sizes are exceptionally good and prices are very reasonable. I was surprised to see my check, as it was exceptionally low. This place is highly recommended.

Great Moroccan food, well priced

By Peter A |

As an amateur chef the Moroccan cuisine is one I practise myself time to time! However, they are a lot better than what I produce!!! We had Lamb Tagine With Prunes And Almonds lamb shanks, onions, prunes, almonds and sesame seeds!!! Awesome !! Assessing all the food we had in SF this was the best restaurant!!! You can BYO wine and they do not even charge you corkage!!! Price/quality wise this is the best you can get! Wish they were around the corner where I live!!! Compliments and many thanks for a great meal!!!

Great meal

We had a fabulous Maroccan meal here. The lamb shanks were delicious. The portions were substantial. Please be aware there is no alcohol served. They do except credit cards. We did try all the desserts but I would only recommend the baklava. Nice atmosphere. Great mint tea.

Amazing Dinner, Wonderful Find

By cathytravels2014 |

Been here twice and will definitely go next time I am in San Francisco. BYOB and they take reservations but it's an easy place to walk into and get a table. All of the food is delicious and the atmosphere is lovely - absolutely do not fail to get the chicken bastilla and the Moroccan mint tea! The lentils, couscous, tagines, etc. are all also excellent. Highly recommend!

Superb food and service

By 21ski |

Do not miss this fantastic restaurant with superb food, great service and reasonable prices! We ordered the chicken bastilla as a starter. While we waited we enjoyed an excellent mint tea - highly recommended. The chicken bastilla arrived quickly and was delicious - crisp filo dough outside with a delicious chicken and vegetable filling. For main courses we had the chicken cous-cous, the lamb tagine with prunes and almonds and a side order of cinnamon cous-cous with raisins. All three dishes were generous portions and absolutely delicious. A great mix of flavours to enjoy. We couldn’t finish so we have leftovers for the next day. The service is excellent - attentive without being obnoxious. This restaurant is a gem - highly recommended. Do not miss it if you like Moroccan food, or are curious to try it.

We want to be back!

By ImaMY |

A friend and I had lunch there. The service was slow as one man was doing everything, but the food made up for it. We had all our questions answered. The place is very clean.

Everything was a treat! And the tea was really good. I Learned how to properly pour a tea. The meat was tender and all were tasty!

Amazing authentic food

By Tarek A |

I got the pastilla and vegetarian couscous. That’s a lot of food for cheap in San Francisco. I recommend.

A nice meal

By W.O.F. |

Wanted to eat near Regency so we could walk to our concert. Loved the lamb tagines, bastilla and mint tea.....hubby had the fish special, which was great! The owner was so cute- kept coming over to ask how we liked the fish tagine and looked so happy when we raved about it! Also loved that we could just byob and they gladly opened our Zin. We will be back!

Wonderful!

By Elisa Slagell |

Awesome restaurant! The lamb is fantastic and the mint tea is phenomenal. We've eaten here twice in the past week, definitely going to miss it when we go home.

Warm and plentiful

By Lee N |

Small restaurant but decorated in all the warm north African colors, which matched the warm spices of the food. The big win was the chicken bistella and the mint tea (only 3 bucks and came with a nice pouring show). Entrees were big enough to share or take home. My lamb couscous was tender and filled with tasty vegetables. Also enjoyed their harissa, a little spicy to punch things up but also with a pleasant acidic kick. Would return, particularly for that bistella.
