Disappointing Restaurant Week Effort

By Lee F |

Ordered the luncheon restaurant week offering over a week ago. So anticipated the corn and crab chowder offering to find that there were far less than ten fingers count of kernels of corn and to my old eyes I saw no crab. Soup reminded my of my depression era influenced Mother’s milk gravy and would have been greatly enhanced with some chipped beef. If you are going to highlight a house special, don’t spoil it by “watering it down”. Entree was clearly prepared ahead and by warming over was dried out. If your heart is not in it, don’t participate in restaurant week. I waited a week to write this review to see if my opinion softened, but it did not.

Great steakes

By DonJancauskas |

Al Biernat's North restaurant on Spring Valley is much easier to get in and out of compared to the downtown restaurants. Not only there less traffic to fight thru but I think the steaks are better. Good service matched with excellent taste makes this one of my favorites.

Superb! True Excellence!!

By Caz |

We were in the area on business and felt like having a steak. This restaurant came up on our search and was very close to our hotel. Win win!! It was freezing out side and this restaurant still had valet. The valet gentlemen were absolutely amazing. We had a reservation and were seated in a booth by the hostess. The decor is very nice. This is a large restaurant with a very nice ambiance. Our waiter was excellent, he recommended the thermador ribeye steak and lobster and my husband ordered it. It was the best lobster we ever had. I ordered Filet Mignon Medium and it was cooked to perfection. Everything was tasty. We tried the coconut pie and peanut butter chocolate pie. Both were delicious. I almost forgot I had a side pear salad. Please order it. I will be craving that salad daily. It was the best side salad ever. We will be recommending this restaurant to all our friends and associates visiting Dallas. We also had great wine and a mixed drink. The staff was extremely attentive. They are trained very well. They foresee your needs. We can’t say enough about this place. We can’t wait to return. The manager was very nice and greeted us. This place is 5 star. Superb! True excellence!

“A Special Place.....”

By Summit Seeker |

As seasoned travelers, we are constantly searching for the best restaurants in the many cities and towns we pass through; whether it’s an independent prime steakhouse, or just a local hot spot. After reading all the accolades and awards Al Beirnat’s has compiled, it’s time to venture in and see if this legendary beef paradise lives up to the hype. We chose the north location as it was only 5 minutes from our hotel. Visually, the restaurant is stunning: From the smooth bar to the right of entry, to the grand staircase separating the main dining areas, this place screams classy elegance. The menu here is massive, especially at lunchtime. If prime steaks aren’t on your mind, they have an array of pastas, fish, burgers, etc. Our entrees for both dinner, and lunch the next day, included: Wagyu offerings of NY Strip, fillet, and even a cheeseburger. Also, seared tuna, chicken parm, pot roast, crab pasta, crab soup, and fish n chips. All was tasty, with the crab pasta and pot roast, surprisingly being the most memorable. These steaks were great, but not memorable: I’m finding more n more that the American Wagyu is a bit overhyped at these fine restaurants; but still a fine cut of beef.... Give me a dry aged bone in prime cut, and I’ll be content. I will add that all of our many desserts, as well as the array of mixed drinks we sampled, were all excellent. Service here(both meals), was as good as advertised. Working in a team concept at dinner, and a more casual solo approach at lunch, nothing was ever needed. Every glass kept full, and anything that was asked for, arrived promptly and piping hot. Best part: All was served with genuine smiles, coming from genuine personalities: One can tell these folks enjoy their jobs. In conclusion: Texas probably has a steakhouse on every corner in every town, and Dallas is no exception. But Al Beirnat’s is a notch or 2 above the norm. We’ve tried prime steakhouses all over the country; and though Al Beirnat’s might not crack my top 5 at this time, it’s one I definitely recommend. Even if you’re not a steak lover(for whatever reason), this restaurant has plenty of options.... I say give it a go!

Fine Dining at its Best

I went to Al's North for dinner for Restaurant Week. If you don't know about DFW Restaurant Week, you should! It is a great time of the year when a portion of the proceeds goes towards the North Texas Food Bank & Lena Pope Home. I've been to the Al Biernat's location in the city, but decided to try this location out. So glad I did! The location is right off of the Dallas North Tollway, and easy to get to. There is valet parking, and lots of attendants. The inside of this location is modern and upscale. There is a large bar to the right, and dining to the left. We were seated in a huge booth that could have sat 6. There was only 2 of us. Restaurant week consists of a $39 and $49 prix fixe menu. The selection from Al's menu were broad -- there were 5 appetizers, entrees and desserts to choose from and was $49. I started out with the corn and crab chowder, and my companion had the mini beef wellingtons. The chowder was sublime, with a perfect marriage of corn and crab. The wellingtons were delicious as well, but the gravy served with them was off the chart. For our entree I had the roast chicken with a farro, corn and red pepper salad and my companion had the red snapper with Spanish rice and plantains. Both dishes were HUGE and amazing. My chicken was a full half of a chicken, and the salad was delicious. I didn't try the snapper, but it looked great. For dessert we had the key lime pie and the "famous" coconut cream pie. While my key lime pie didn't get high marks for presentation, the taste of this pie eclipsed any deficiency in presentation. The coconut cream pie was delicious (I had to try that!) and not too sweet. Our waiter, Marty was fantastic. He paced the meal for what we wanted (slow) and was very attentive with the wine and service. Our glasses were never empty and he had a charming personality and whit that carried the relationship into exceptional service. We will definitely come again to Al Biernat's North.

definitely: any time again !

What a find ! Excellent quality and service ! Don't miss this place ! As I was browsing for our next overnight accommodation on this cross-country trip, the restaurant right adjacent to the property looked enticing . . . WOW, Al Biernat's managed to totally exceed our expectations. The quality of the steaks was exceptional, and the service was outstanding. This was a fantastic experience after a long day of driving ! We'd definitely go back any time we find ourselves in the same area.

Cold food was served to us

By Daring P |

Hey, We came to the north location here in Dallas, tx on Monday 26th of 2023. One of the Hispanic worker kept coming to the table and fist bumping my friend. Totally unacceptable. The beef Wellington bites were served to us “cold” it came with 5 we both tried one a piece, they were cold. So, we had to track down the server, to ask him if they were supposed to be served cold. He said “no” . They took the 3 left on the plate and heated them up some kind of way. But they were still not hot. The macaroni and cheese tasted like they were from a cheap box. They are not the mac&cheese I have had there before. The brussel sprouts were watery looking and flavorless seriously . I still have them. After spending $268.00 for the meal it was not worth it. We are African American. The service was not good at all. No welcome, nothing. Who owns this place with this type of food and service? Plus a $60 tip just because be thought we had to do it. Something is not right. How do you fix this? Sincerely Chyno

Best restaurant in Dallas!

By RAW |

My husband said he had the best steak he has ever had! He’s had a lot.;) I really enjoyed Al’s salad. It was fabulous ! Thank you Jeff for being a fabulous server. We really enjoyed you. Thank you James for the table side chat. We enjoyed you as well. See you all soon!

Al’s lived up to its ratings

By MichaelNTX |

Al’s lived up to its ratings as one of the best in Dallas. The bar service wasn’t great, but the restaurant side was outstanding!

Fancy restaurant with great food selections

By kelly |

Amazing service and quality of food. The server explained everything to us in detail, what was on for specials that night, and was really patient as it was our first time. The portions were generous and the meats were really tender. We also went for my mother’s late birthday and they gave us a free cake on the house as well.

Very good steakhouse

By CLEWOOD |

For a Tuesday, the restaurant was packed. To me - a very traditional steakhouse experience with some added options that we enjoyed. I enjoyed the soups, the option for other meats (bison, etc.), and my steak. I thought the sides for the dinner lacked flair. While also a one off, the wine I was excited to try was out of stock. All in a good steak dinner!

Excellent restaurant

By Pvspims |

We are foodies, and this restaurant has entered our list of favorites for Dallas. The food was excellent, the service impeccable, and the setting at the restaurant is truly very nice.

This was a great steak for a special night.

By RKC2406 |

The atmosphere is 5 star. We were celebrating a special night with my husband and daughter. The staff went above to give us the best experience. I felt like we had 3-4 serving us. The filet was the best one I've had. My husband's 22 oz Cowboy Ribeye was one of the best he has eaten. I would recommend this to families, couples and for a business dinner. This is definitely a Prime Steakhouse.

Coconut Cream Pie...what has happened to our favorite pie?

By T M |

Loved our meal! Disappointed that their famous coconut cream pie was not good. Not like the pie at Al's south restaurant.

Awesome first visit!

By john h |

First time and came away impressed! Seafood tower, steaks, sides, all exceptional. Attentive, friendly service was also great to experience. Pricey but to be expected at a Steakhouse of this quality!

Good was good but they are having issues

By Neil-from-Dallas |

The food was good but they screwed up our order and had to send steaks back as the rare one was delivered to the medium ordered person. They did this quick and credited us for a few glasses of wine..much appreciated. But it still messes with the vibe if the evening when u r waiting for others to eat while u food is chilling off. We would go again and realize that post pandemic restaurants r getting it back together.

Another wonderful New Year’s Eve Celebration

By Gerry F |

We spent New Year’s Eve 2017 celebrating with best friends at Al Biernat’s original location (Oak Lawn) - it was wonderful...very festive, great food and service. Since the North location is nearer to our friends’ home in Coppell, we tried in September for my friend’s birthday - truly one of our most memorable dinners & we were able to meet Al. That evening, we asked to make (advance) reservations for this year’s New Year’s Eve & he totally accommodated is by having his Manager come to our table & get our info. We explained we wanted to sit in a booth, great viewing of the entire restaurant. He said it would be ours! Please let me explain how this restaurant differs from the majority of restaurants on New Year’s Eve - they do NOT have a preset menu...you order from their regular menu & they still offer their off-the-menu items. To be truthful - each of us, except for my husband - ordered our ‘favorites’ - Chilean Sea Bass (yum), 8-oz Filet (delicious), Prime Rib (as great as before) & my husband loved the Chicken Parmesan. We started out with our favorites - Palm & Wedge Salads & Lobster Bisque. Rafael was amazing! Great service & personality and made us feel ‘right at home’ and we were thrilled to have Maria assisting him (she had taken exceptional care of us our last visit) AND last ... but not least, Diana took great care of our drink orders. Now another MAJOR note, Al came to our table to personally greet us, to be honest - he made the ‘rounds’, but he remembered us and took time to talk. As I said several months ago - he is why this restaurant completely and totally ‘rocks’. He and his staff care - which is why...whenever we are in Dallas - we will come here to dine.

Why Attempt to seat customers in the worst tables first?

By John J |

I have had several 4 and 5-star evenings at Al's, but this was not one of them. Saturday night we arrived for a birthday celebration at Al Biernat's North with such high expectations. Our past visits over the years have always been memorable. My family was looking forward to it all week and everyone dressed up for the formal occasion. We had a reasonably early reservation and arrived 10 minutes early. When we walked in, we were greeted with warm smiles and good eye contact. I did notice there were already a lot of people seated at 6:30, but the main dining room still had some spots. My daughter had requested standard seating on Open Table when she made the reservation and indicated it was a birthday celebration. We told the hostess we were excited to come for a big celebration (I am sure they hear that a lot). The hostess immediately took us to a table, but we were surprised when she turned toward the bar. The table she suggested was next to the fireplace and was about 100 degrees. She said she could turn the fireplace off, but the heat was going to linger for a while. We politely asked for another table not in the bar area. She took us to another table at the edge of the bar which was where people waited to be seated. We would have had people standing all around us. My wife asked if we could have the round booth next to that table and away from the crowd, even if it was next to a sever stand in the bar. The response was "do you like that table?" and my wife responded yes. The happiness air was let out of everyone's balloon with the seating fiasco. It wasn't that the final booth was bad, because it wasn't. We liked it. It was that we were attempted to be sat in two terrible tables first when there were plenty of good tables available. To me, the policy should be to seat people first come first served on the quality tables. Why put people coming to celebrate in a bad mood? Side note: The table where people would be standing waiting on tables would stay open for two hours with no one else being asked to sit there. Finally at the end our meal, a party of two was sat there when all the other tables were occupied. Regardless of the rest of the night, with all the options in Dallas, you entertain thoughts of going elsewhere next time. Once seated, our server came by to introduce himself. Ahmed did a fantastic job all evening for us. He was attentive, but let us set the pace, made recommendations when asked and timed the evening perfectly. He was great! After a round of various martinis, we shared some appetizers. The crab cakes were lightly breaded and tasted of very little filler - they were delicious and definitely recommended. I felt the shrimp cocktail may have been even better - jumbo shrimp perfectly cooked with your choice of sauce. Following appetizers were another round of drinks for some of us and salads. I have always liked how Al's enables you to order half portions on salads. We had half portions of the Caesar, Wedge, and Al's seafood. All three got rave reviews and are definitely recommended. The half portions are as large as a normal salad in some restaurants, so definitely filling. Unfortunately, we had dined on steak the night before, so we moved to seafood options with some wine pairings. Two of us had the delicious Sea Bass. Al's Sea Bass is probably the best I have had anywhere. It has a nice crisp on the top and tastes like you are eating butter it is rich. The lobster risotto the Sea Bass rests on was exceptional. My wife went for the calf's liver and onions - a childhood love of hers that she rarely sees on a menu anymore. The liver was cooked to perfection, and she said exquisite. My oldest opted for the evening's special Halibut. She said it was excellent as well. For dessert, we ordered the famous Coconut Cream pie, Apple Cobbler, an after-dinner cocktail, and Cappuccinos. No mention was made of the birthday by anyone at Al's and surprisingly neither dessert was complementary for the birthday celebration. That was a little disappointing at the end but was sort of expected given how the evening began. The food is great at Al's, but pricy. I checked the bill, and it was incorrect as we had been charged for a full Al's salad vs the half ordered and received (a $15 difference). Ahmed apologized and took care of it, but I am glad I checked! The seating experience and not recognizing the celebration in any way were the low points. I am sure we will probably come back, but we will consider other options for important dinners in the future to ensure a great overall experience.

Excellent Birthday Celebration

By Keith D |

We celebrated a fiftieth birthday here and had an amazing evening. The lobster thermidor was delicious and had a nice presentation to it. Escargot in puff pastries was nice but not as stellar as the lobster. Chocolate cake at the end of the meal was enjoyable with a nice aged port.

Great Restaurant

By mleeunderwood |

I came here with several other people for a business dinner. I was impressed with the service from the start. The menu was great and had a huge selection of surf and turf. The server was excellent and very attentive. All in all, this is a great place.

Al Biernats North is fabulous

By Gary R |

I always got steaks or lobster and decided to try lamb chops and OMG so flavorful and delicious. Sides were killer had potatoes au-gratin, mushrooms and mac & cheese. Services was perfect and they handled our party of 8 with attention to every detail. I definitely recommend this restaurant.

Back for great food...

By seriousdiver |

Was so great to be back in the restaurant...food was great as always. My favorite dish in Dallas. BUT - we were promised that staff would wear masks and gloves. Which all did, EXCEPT our waiter wore his mask as a scarf rather than pulling it up over his face. Candidly, that’s actually more offensive than not wearing one at all. And he wasn’t alone. The way it was done to me was actually disrespectful. I’m not a fanatic about masks, but Al runs top tier, by the rules establishments and I expect better. After some thought we may go back to curbside pickup for a while

New Year's Celebration

By richardmA3732QS |

This location is where Del Frisco's used to be on Spring Valley. From the outside the changes are mostly cosmetic. Inside is completely different and a tremendous improvement over the very familiar and classic Del Frisco's. The new bar is large, open and would accommodate large numbers of patrons. The staff is incredible and very professional. Our table was ready as soon as we were. The booth was large, comfortable, and very private. The sound level was low and the atmosphere was very intimate for our party of six. We had the seafood tower as our appetizer and it was very, very good. The wine steward was knowledgeable, helpful and listened to what we wanted. Everyone was very happy with their steaks and seafood selections. Overall I would rate this location superior to the original and it is nice to know we can still return to this highly familiar location for one of the best meals you can get in the Dallas area.

What a Great Addition!

By Larry S |

We have been long-time patrons at the original restaurant and were so please when the North location was announced. We tried it and were very surprised. The decor is superb and the restaurant is very spacious. As always the food and service were excellent. Hopefully, the North will offer the wonderful Sunday brunch as is offered at the Oak Lawn location. It may be our new favorite Al Biernat's. Bon appetit! Cheers, Larry

Incredible food, excellent service, perfect ambience

By Tony T |

My wife chose Al Biernat’s for her birthday celebration and I was delighted. We were promptly greeted and seated, and our server, Justin, was not only incredibly knowledgeable about the menu and the wine list but genuinely had a passion for food and for the discernment Al Biernat’s has when choosing sourcing partners for their cuts. Top marks all around. At his suggestion I chose the Spinalis Dorsi, ribeye cap, medium rare, and couldn’t have been more pleased. The service, the ambience, the energy and the entire team… were an absolute delight. James Gee dropped by our table and was magnanimous and gracious as he makes the oversight of DFW’s top steak house look effortless and fun! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Wonderful Baked Potato accompanied my Steak

By Travel80 |

Enjoyed a great Lunch at Al Biernat’s North! My Wife, Daughter, Son-in Law and I had dined at this location when it was Del Frisco’s Double Eagle Steakhouse a few years ago. Really like how Al Biernat’s has remodeled the interior to lighten/brighten up the restaurant! The best Baked Potato I have ever enjoyed accompanied my excellent Steak/meal. Recommend Al Biernat’s North!!

Al Biernat's North - It's Not Cheap But You Get What You Pay For.

By Bob K |

Al Biernat's North draws a crowd for the food quality, ambiance and service. The Entrees were done to perfection: my wife had the Osso Bucco on a bed of Mushroom Risotto $42 - the meat fell off the bone - and I focused on a beautifully prepared 8 oz. Petite Filet Mignon $46. We split a Tomato and Mozzarella Salad $14, which was good but the Tomatoes were a little soft for our taste. The order of Onion Strings $10 was fabulous, and plenty for two. Wines are on pricey side but we found an Australian Shiraz - Grenache blend from Glaetzer Wallace for $55 that paired well with our meal. AB North is lively and loud, making it hard, at times, to carry on a conversation. Service was top notch and friendly - we were comped a dessert because of a recent Anniversary.

Fine Dining, Excellent Service, Delicious Food

By loozianafoodie |

Osso Buco was a table favorite and the lobster bisque soup of the day was fabulous. Steaks were delicious and scallops cooked to perfection. The chilean sea bass was very good but the center was very very thick and a little under cooked and harder to cut/chew. Wait staff very attentive - service was excellent. Expect to pay $50 for a steak. The escargot appetizer was also fabulous. Valet parking

Delicious, lived up to the recommendations

By DerekB1974 |

Took my dad here for Father's Day and it was delicious. The inside is much different than when it was the previous restaurant. It is more open and modern looking. We were seated very quickly and our waiter, Patrick was excellent. He was very attentive and took care of our every need. The food was excellent. We split the tenderloin tartare and it was great, very flavorful and the red sauce was on the side so you can choose how spicy you want it. The lobster bisque was good, very creamy and I ordered it with chunks of lobster and they put in a generous amount. Finally I got the 14 oz ribeye and it was perfectly cooked and very tender. Not too much fat and had a nice char on it. The Kobe A5 is real because I asked for the certificate and they offered to get it. Will definitely be back.

Far exceeded my already lofty expectations

By Steven H |

When you think Al Biernat you position yourself at the top of dining experiences. It's not just about the setting, the extraordinarily broad menu, perfectly made and served cocktails, uh, uh. It's about the hospitality which defines the experience. We visited Al's new place Al Biernat North, in the building that housed Del Frisco's for thirty years on Spring Valley. Enter the lobby and it's already a Wow! experience. The old traditional walnut paneled walls are gone, the whole thing has been shifted and expertly so. Off to your left when you enter is a rocking bar scene. A square bar with seating around the perimeter of the room. The remaining space has been opened up. We were seated in what used to be Dee's secret cigar bar. In fact, our table for ten was positioned exactly where the infamous James Bond Wine table used to be. (Wonder where that went?). Cocktails were served flawlessly and very quickly for a table of ten. Lot's of complexity in the mix, no hints of the servers pencil and pad; he was an expert listener, the drink whisperer. On to dinner, of ten friends around the table, no one, not one thought their dinner less than perfect. Entrees were really varied, Chilean Sea Bass, Bone-in Rib Eye, Osso Buco, Calves' Liver/Onions; holy cow was it all superb. Prices are not inexpensive but they are reasonable for the outstanding quality. My entree was $24, my wife's $32 (Sea Bass). The wine list is ridiculously long and lush but good news, there are great wines at silly low prices. We ordered a Krug Cabernet Sauvignon for $49 and it was terrific. When you are looking for some warm hospitality and terrific food and beverage go north to Al Biernat North. It's a 'must visit'.

Very Good as Expected

By TJ |

Very Good as Expected...very good location for us. The service was excellent. Food was mostly excellent. The Prime Cowboy Ribeye was not as good as I expected. I think it was cooked more on the rare side though we asked for "medium rare plus." The latter was a phrase our waiter suggested. Otherwise, the sides were great. The desserts were great. And our waiter was super. Overall the staff was excellent

Excellent in every way!

By Cory049 |

We have dined at most of the high-end steakhouses in Dallas and for some reason had not ever dined at Al Biernat's North. We will now never dine at any other steakhouse in Dallas!! The food and service were outstanding. The steaks were cooked to perfection and were delicious and the sides were all super. The one thing we notice we we dine out is the amount of salt that is in the food. This seems especially true at steakhouses. The food here is not excessively salted, allowing the wonderful natural flavors to shine. Marty, who is the Manager, made all of the guests feel very welcome, visiting each table to be sure guests were having a good experience. Our evening was perfect in every way. We will most certainly be back!

A very short drive from the Marriott Quorum Hotel at the Galleria, we had reservations for four on a not so busy Monday. Since we are here on Aviation business, we met up with great friends to catch up and have a nice quiet dinner. Our server Steven was on top of his game. Service, Knowledgable about the menu and daily specials, he was on point with a great attitude. Thank you Sir!!! We started with a large seafood tower to share, which consisted of Lobster, shrimps, crab meat and oysters. Fresh, nice, cold, very tasty and hitting the spot, and very filling!!! For the main entrées, a small filet, one cowboy rib eye and a rib eye to share. Also sides of cream corn, creamed spinach, sautéed mushrooms, and mash potatoes to share. The steaks were grilled to a tender perfect medium rare in temperature. Tasty, juicy, and melts in your mouth!!! The sides were a perfect pairing with our dinner. Overall, nice ambiance, beautiful decor, excellent service from Steven, great delish steaks and sides. Valet parking is free and a short drive from our hotel!!! We will be back!!! 🥩🥩🥩

Open airy with a very Southern feel in the newly remodeled bar. Very busy! You will need reservations for dining. Beautiful presentation. A great cappuccino as well. Be sure to check out the upstairs for an after dinner champagne and a seat on their new balcony . Very friendly 5 star ! $$$$ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Fantastic service and food!

We had our company Holiday lunch at Al Biernat's North on Dec. 18, 2024. We were in the Owl room and Cassidy and her crew were such gracious hosts, always anticipating our wants and needs. We had a set menu for our group of 35 and everything on the menu was exceptional! The steaks were cooked to perfection and the Sea Bass and Chicken dish were fabulous as well. The desserts were delicious! I would highly recommend Al Biernat's North for any special event or function for your company or for a special night out with friends, family or that special someone.

SAD 40th ANNIVERSARY $$$

By Joe K |

Planned for a month to go N. Dallas location very excited for upscale anniversary - our 40th to enjoy as a family. Wait staff very attentive - nice - easy going - no pressure but meal was just so so. I had combo Buffalo; Quail; Tiger Prawn and a scallop with side of brussel sprouts; Another family member had Veal with risotto mushroom sauce and the scallops on rice. The risotto was half cold. Seafood was good but nothing special for this level of restaurant in our opinion. My buffalo was cooked very well as ordered and the veal was very good probably the best dish of evening. Waiter came by - offered anniversary dessert - we declined and he said no, enjoy one so our daughter picked a chocolate bread with side of ice cream - OUT IT CAME AND it was cute with Happy Anniversary! BUT MY HUSBAND WAS holding the dish as we went to try it and said STOP - I cannot believe it but there is a dead fly on the dish; YES, in the dish as the picture shows. Wait staff person grabbed it omgosh let me get you another one - we stated NO WAY - just the check. A manager, Sam came by - i'm so sorry .... what can I do to make it right? Another dish, glass of champagne - NO THANK YOU. He said 'oh, there are flies everywhere' REALLY well, we wish we'd known before we ate there - outrageous again for a higher scale dining restaurant in our city unacceptable in every way. He went back/forth - I'll talk to my dessert people........really???? Again, we paid our check and left and he said "NEXT time you come back - I'll make this right"- we aren't planning on a next time, why not make it right now. AGAIN UNACEPTABLE TOTALY for a meal at this cost. UNREAL we'd met Al Biernat at his Oak Lawn location years ago; sad he'd turn over seeing - hearing this tonight.

Last weekend, my wife and

By Clint C |

Last weekend, my wife and I dined here to celebrate a belated Valentines Day meal. The service was spectacular and the steaks and salads were great. As per sides, we preferred the creamed corn to the potatoes au gratin. The dessert and drinks menu was good as well.

Simply the best steakhouse in Dallas

By LeeanneRH |

Great food and service in a sleek, comfortable, new location - no one does it like Al and his staff. The best quality ingredients were prepared to our requests (one of us is gluten free, so it's important). We shared wedge salad, NY strip steak, Diver Scallops with Prawns on coconut/basmati rice, wild mushroom saute, enormous and tender baked potato with all the toppings... outstanding wine and beer selections... decadent cocktails... apple cobbler, Grand Marnier creme brulee (perhaps the best ever tasted!)for dessert... served by Bonnie (a delightful, professional, executive server) and complimented by our charming host, Chris. Finally, a first class steakhouse with upscale, yet casual ambiance is in the North Dallas - Plano area. (Take note of my other reviews... skip the other places, this IS THE PLACE for memorable dining the way it is supposed to be - a real treat.)

Sad the highest we can rate is 5-stars

By Gerry F |

Having come to Dallas to celebrate best friend’s birthday - she wanted to go to Al Biernat’s North...we had thoroughly enjoyed dining at the Downtown location last New Year’s Eve. We had dined previously when it was another restaurant and were delighted to see the completion of the beautiful renovations. Having reservations - we were promptly seated in a booth (great location for people watching). Ron was our server and Maria assisted him...both are outstanding! After cocktails - one friend decided to order Corn Chowder (he said it was great), my friend & I split the Hearts of Palm tossed salad (delicious) and my husband had the Wedge Salad (loved it - lots of Blue Cheese). We did order some great wines by the glass - there is an extensive wine list. The guys ordered the Prime Rib (mashed potatoes), I had the Petit Filet (pepper encrusted) & my friend had the Chilean Sea Bass. All of the entrees were perfectly prepared! For desserts - she and I split the phenomenal Coconut Cream Pie & the guys had the Pecan Pie...we were all so pleasantly stuffed! Al Biernat (Owner) stopped by our table & visited us - took time to tell us about his background - which once you experience the top to bottom service, lets you know...he has ‘done it all’! Absolutely everyone - the hostesses, the water & bread servers &&& especially Ron and Maria made us feel so much at home - actually spoiled us! Now, we had such a great time, we asked for Al to come back over and we made reservations for New Year’s Eve this year! Can not imagine enjoying a dinner any more - please know, being from Houston...there is so much competition between Dallas & Houston, so we really wish Al would ‘expand’ into Houston!

Small Portions, Bad Bread, Great Service

By Patrick |

Bread was very stale. My wife did not like the chopped salad saying the dressing was tasteless, although I thought it was okay except for the lettuce being more shredded than chopped. The crab cakes were expensive $26 for 3 small medallions. But what was most frustrating for me was the size of our 10 oz filet looking more like a 6 oz. Service was great and very nice. Unfortunately we won't be going back due to the portion sizes and clearance sale grocery bread.

Don't go for ANY holiday brunch or Dinner

By Ndalsteve |

I have been a HUGE fan of AB for years and was super excited about the one in the North. We made brunch reservation fairly late on Friday before Easter Sunday, they had several time spots open so I was thinking they were not that busy. Well I was wrong, as we were sat (party of five) upstairs which looked to be a banquet room with a lot of long tables for large parties. Imagine when you were seven years old and sat at the card table in the living room while the grown ups ate in the dining room, this is exactly how this was. I believe we were as far back as you can get from the kitchen. We had five in our party and all have had brunch there. We always brag about how well they do brunch but as we learned on Sunday, no more brunch on a holiday. Our waiter immediately seemed frazzled and overwhelmed and we were just about the only ones up there and when it completely filled up with large parties and children he could not keep up. There were several other servers and they were overwhelmed as well. I heard one say "why so may tables up here". We ordered teas and some soup and right before that, that wonderful warm bread arrived. Five of us, all guys went through it pretty fast lol. We asked for another but it was really long in returning, then filled with only one type of bread and cold. The ordering: two of us ordered the carne asada and eggs both medium well. Oh and the chowder was great. When the food came out his was good, mine was raw. I told the server to take it bake. Another 12 minutes passed and he returned with charred middle and raw ends. And the eggs had now sit so long were Ice cold. The quac was brown and disgusting looking. I ate whey I could but left hungry, you leave AB hungry?? Well when you only get a sliver of what you ordered you do. Eddie the manager was up there now apologizing and mentioning how busy they were/are but that should not matter. Reading other posts it seems there is a common thread that holiday and the North do not fair well. Some of the other issues were my buddy ordered the pancaked with carmelized bananas and the chamborg cream, well when that finally did it was like skim milk, pretty nasty. We also had to ask for syrup??? Would you not think you would naturally grab some syrup? By the end of the meal, I was pissed....my friends were upset as to having to be sat in the kids room and our server was absent 90% of the time waiting on the large parties. Everything felt rushed and out of sorts. Eddie the GM did comp the table after I requested he did not. So we just got up and left and we left zero tip but this guy did not deserve one. I have reached out to GM Eddie with no response, I am guess in Mr. Biernat has the same style email....guess I will reach out to him. I just want to know what happened or just be told they dropped the ball and let me know how they can win back my trust and business. From reading other responses the GM's never respond so I shouldn't expect one either.

Birthday Dinner

By Nomad747118 |

I chose to go here for my birthday because I met Chef Anthony Van Camp when he did a demo at the Texas State Fair a couple of years ago. I could tell then he was an awesome chef, and my expectation were met. The cowboy cut ribeye, ossa bucco, and coconut cream pie were amazing. Our server Martin (Marty) was the tip of the iceberg. Very nice, attentive, personable, and recommended the best sides to match our food. I couldn't have asked for a better night!

An otherwise delicious dinner marred by a big mistake

By mshbnyehud |

Oh how frustrating it is when a perfectly delicious dinner is damaged by mistakes. And this one was inexcusable.... Al Biernat's North, like all Dallas restaurants, is emerging out of restaurant lockdown and trying to do everything right. This location mostly pulls it off. You don't have to touch a thing entering the restaurant or sitting at your assigned table. Our 7:30 pm Saturday evening reservation was honored on time, and we were given a very isolated (thus safe) inside location in the bar area. Only 4 persons (two couples) in the bar, very safely away from us. All restaurant staff are properly outfitted with masks and gloves. Everything is super clean. Our server promptly greeted us and provided newly minted paper menus, easily recycled afterwards. He did not immediately provide a wine list, which was strange, or even ask us if we wanted one (until we asked for it). The wine list is laminated and must be wiped with disinfectant after each use, no doubt. He was kind enough to offer a taste of two wines to help my partner make a decision on what she wanted to drink. After bringing us some fresh bread and butter, we ordered two main entrees and 1 side dish. I ordered a 12 oz Filet Mignon medium, and my partner ordered the Chilean Sea Bass. The additional side dish was sautéed mushrooms (principally for my steak but delicious on their own). Then the most bizarre thing happened..... Not less than 3 minutes had passed, and suddenly the kitchen is delivering our main entrees. 3 MINUTES!! What's THAT all about?? 3 minutes certainly isn't fine dining. So we called over to our waiter to ask if these were indeed our dinners and more importantly, how could they possibly be finished cooking and delivered in 3 minutes? Had they already been cooked and just sitting in the kitchen?? Our server seems as baffled as we were, asked me to cut into my steak only to discover that it was medium rare, not medium, and he proceeded to take both dishes back to the kitchen to be re-done, with his apologies. 15 minutes later the dishes re-emerged, new portions of each -- this time delivered by one of the house managers with his apologies. This time, all was well. My steak was perfectly cooked (if not very slightly over cooked), the sea bass was great, and the sweet potato puree with my steak was divine. Portions were large and we opted both to take half of each back home in a nicely wrapped doggie bag. Well done. We decided to skip dessert but ordered coffee to end the visit. I was disappointed that the house manager didn't at least offer an extra glass of wine or a complimentary dessert to make up for such an obvious mistake in the kitchen and/or by the servers. Al Biernat's is, after all, supposed to be about fine dining. That's what you're paying for at nearly $100 per person all told. Instead, this incident was about Al Biernat's fast food service. It left a bad taste in my mouth, notwithstanding the delicious food. Too bad.

Wonderful Anniversary Dinner

By Joy H |

What a perfect place to celebrate a special occasion! We started out with a champagne toast, and then proceeded to delicious appetizers. I had the corn and crab chowder which was velvety smooth and flavorful, and my husband had the Caesar salad. I had a bite of his salad, and the dressing was incredible. We split the filet and lobster Thermidor for two, along with sides of creamed spinach and garlic mashed potatoes. Every bite was amazing! The lobster meat was the perfect size and consistency, in the most delicious sauce. The filet was fork tender, and the creamed spinach was incredibly fresh. For dessert, we split a piece of the coconut cream pie. It actually reminded me of my mom's, which is the highest compliment I could give. This was my first visit since Al's moved in and renovated the former Del Frisco location. What a huge improvement ! The restaurant feels so much lighter, brighter, and updated. The bar area is beautiful ! The service was impeccable during our dinner. This is the most amazing place for a special dinner. Enjoy!!

Disappointing Fathers Day

By BRTUR |

Quite disappointing. Chose to take my Father and our family here on Fathers Day, thankfully his meal was okay, but my unfortunately was not. I ordered the $93 Waygu NY Strip and Al Biernat's did not deliver as one would expect. My steak was served very rare, I can tolerate Med. Rare but this was way to rare for me. I ordered the steak Med Well and once I sent it back, the server brought it back and asked me to cut into it, it was borderline so I kept it. After the server walked away and I tasted it, the outside was charred, crusty, lacked flavor, and took away the tenderness this piece of meat should have. Unfortunately, they never asked me how the steak was, manager never visited the table that evening either. What a disappointing and terrible $600 dinner... I work with several high end business clients and would refer them to Al Biernat's but not sure I would recommend Al Biernat's anymore.

Great steak.

By LostInTime |

I went here for dinner. The waiter was Ronnie and he was great. Such a nice guy. The shrimp cocktail was perfect. The wedge salad was great. And the cowboy rib-eye couldn’t have been better. The bourbon list was also quite good. A great spot.

Cannot believe!

By Lee F |

Just finished brunch at restaurant. I cannot believe that this restaurant did not have a single woman working the floor! Did have a hostess dressed in pale pink short chiffon. Our waiter overwhelmed us with his theatrical emotion and managed to get my partner’s drink order wrong after a number of attempts. It was like he just didn’t listen to the first half of everything we ordered and filled in rhw blanks to suit his fancy. Despite our efforts to slow down the service, once we ordered service came so quickly that I have to believe steaks are pre-cooked, and rewarmed Insufficiently. Would expect a restaurant of this caliber to cook to order. Have had many wonderful experiences at the bar here and will likely never sit at a table again.

Perfectly cooked steaks and great sides

By Dave Porter |

This location was converted from another steakhouse and the new decor is great, open and relaxing but the noice can be a bit overwhelming, especially if seated next to a large table. The food here is always good and the steaks are delicious although I find their temperatures to be on the less done side. As an example, I usually order “medium rare plus” but here I order medium and the meat is still juicy and has a warm red/pink center. I love the creamed spinach and the carrots but all the sides are fantastic!

Bad food bad service

By Jim G |

Valentines dinner. Food was poor, the lobster was soggy and among the worst I have had. The steak was tasty. Ordered Brussels sprouts but they never arrived though they were on the bill. Had to ask to get them off the bill. Very very overpriced for the quality of food. Go to Houston’s or Pappa Brothers for quality and service, run far from this place.

Mixed Bag

By victrometer |

Based on reputation and previous visit to the one downtown many years ago, I decided to meet a friend who was visiting, at the North location of this Dallas culinary landmark. Warmly greeted at host stand when we arrived for reservation at 7p Were quickly seated and brought water by the busser. We were deep in conversation but it was still quite a while before a server (not ours, apparently) came and asked us if anyone had come over to get our drink order, we said no and the server took our order. Just as he finished, our real server showed up and had and awkward moment with the first server, who had taken the drink order. That set the tone for what I can only describe as an off night for our server. Seemed a little disoriented for the entire meal. We were taking a lot but even with that, the service was not up to the reputation and the prices. When our server brought out our entrees, he gave each of us the wrong dish. 8oz filet was exceptional & the fish special my friend ordered was sublime! Dessert was also very good. Server spent a lot of time managing a clearly-hammered guest and his female companion. Manager thanked us for coming in as we left and said he would have checked on us but he didn't want to interrupt our conversation. OK, fair enough. Fish special was so good that I decided to return 2 nights later on the chance that they still had it. Made a reservation and again was warmly greeted again. As a solo diner I was seated at a booth for 4 in the bar, which was great because I could watch the Cav's game. The bar was half empty and yet the server was exceptionally slow getting to the table. The off-night affliction from 2 night earlier must have spread because after she took my drink order, she returned minutes later, saying she was spacey and asked me how I wanted the drink prepared. It again took way longer than it should have for the drink to arrive. I ordered a shrimp cocktail and when I asked what size the shrimp were, the server attempted a hand gesture that I guess was supposed resemble the size of the shrimp. She seemed to have never heard of U-12 shrimp - a common menu item in restaurants of this caliber). After another wait that was longer than it hold have been for place that was not busy, a food runner brought out an appetizer I did not order. He politely took it back and soon brought me what I had ordered. The shrimp looked unappetizing laying on a plate with lettuce. The shrimp were good and so was the cocktail sauce. The server finally returned not mentioning the snafu withe the appetizer. It then occurred to me, perhaps she was not not in fact, a regular server, maybe simply someone filling in. I had returned for the fish special my friend had ordered 2 nights earlier & I was not disappointed. Again it was incredible. In the meantime a woman fell off her chair at the bar (due to who knows what) and the staff did a first rate job of attending to her needs, cleaning up the mess and getting her to the ambulance. One of the mangers scurried around lowering the shades at the 2 tables next to me so the flashing lights wouldn't disturb the diners. Nice work. He then spent about 20 minutes chatting with the table next to me as they ranted about how awful another restaurant was (apparently, the manager used to work there and tried to downplay the negative comments the guest was making but he finally gave up and kept listening as the guest kept ranting about the amount of money he spent). My server would occasionally pop over to see what I was up to and ask if everything was OK. When I had finished my fish, the server brought me the check without asking if I wanted to order dessert. I told her would like to order dessert and she politely brought me a menu. I ordered, ate the dessert (good), paid the bill and left. At no time on such a slow night, did any manager come to my table to check on the service or the meal. OK, it was another off night. I get it, but… Al Biernat's is as high end a restaurant as there is in Dallas and the repeated lack of attention by both serving staff and management was disappointing. The food was excellent on both visits. The final annoyance was that as I attempted to drive my truck out of the parking lot, with the valet boys standing by the door watching, I had to get out of the truck and move their valet cones myself. They were quick to replace them as I left, as I could see in my rearview mirror.

I expected better

By SandraD552015 |

This was our first time eating inside a restaurant and we were a little uneasy. We were celebrating my husband’s birthday. We have celebrated many birthdays there, as well as New Year’s and Christmas and have been ordering delivery from there since we could. Let me be clear: this is my husband’s favorite restaurant. Last night, when we arrived, there were people in masks opening the door and greeting us. The gentleman behind the podium had his mask down around his throat and when we were seated upstairs in the room to the right of the stairs, we observed the waiter who would be ours waiting on two tables with his mask also around his throat instead of over his face. He put it up before he came to the table and I thanked him for that. However, the rest of the time he was in the room, he took it down. A second waiter, who took care of the other 3 tables in our section, as well as the private enclosed room upstairs, never once had his mask anywhere near his face. You wear a mask to protect me, dude and such an egregious lack of concern for your customers makes me angry. We will not be back until there’s a vaccine. It’s still our favorite food but we expected better control than that.

Al Biernat’s- Anniversary

By golfgod1956 |

First time visiting Al Biernat’s. We were celebrating our 38th anniversary and it was a very good choice. We had made reservations and were quickly seated upstairs. Very comfortable seating arrangements and the service was impeccable. Steve was our principle person but several folks were part of the night. We started the night with Lump Crab cakes and could have stopped there. Best we had ever had. Chowder … Fantastic!…. Sea Bass Fantastic! Deserts (Creme Broulee, Peanut Butter and Banana Pie) the same. Next trip we are going to try their steaks…… But really can’t get over the great service. They did a couple of things for our anniversary that added a nice touch. This is not a place to go if prices scare you. But for a special night like this everything was well worth it. Thanks to all at Al Biernat’s North

Third Tier

By Steve R |

Dallas/Fort Worth has an abundance of "Top Tier" steakhouses, with Pappas Bros., Bob's and Ruth's Chris at the top of this list. These are elite establishments that consistently deliver extraordinary dining experiences. The "Second Tier" consists of places like The Ranch, III Forks and Capital Grille, when, on any given night, can compete favorably with any of the big boys. Then there is the "Third Tier" which is where Al Biernat's resides (both locations), with the likes of The Keg, Fleming's and Rick Field's. Visit at your own risk ... and we regretfully did! The new north location is well designed and features the same vibrant bar scene for which the downtown location is known. Beyond the bar scene, everything, including the food and service, is just meh. Amongst the many missteps we experienced were Stuart, our waiter, not knowing what the specials were, a tasteless caesar salad, overcooked and flavorless prime rib, cold mash potatoes and cold coffee. These are all very basic procedures which most restaurants execute flawlessly. This is our last visit to Al Biernat's. To those who feel compelled to rate this a five star restaurant, may I suggest you try a "Top Tier" steakhouse next time and then get back to us?

Terrible Service

By Ani M |

We were a party of 7 for brunch at 1 pm. The fact that we had not been served the 1st course only came to light when we asked about it while being served our main course. Adding to the excitement was the fact that one of the seven members of the party had to wait an extra 5+ minutes before their main course. Given the limited dining space, I suggested that I skip the 1st course thus not using up the limited table space. The person waiting on the table came back at the end of the meal with two servings of soup and some bread packed for us to take home and said " it would be thrown away anyway so I packed it up for you". This has been our 1st time at this particular location and definitely our last.

Outstanding service and great food

By aaammgb |

Great location for a business lunch, which is what I was there for. The service is amazing and the food is equally as good. Definitely recommend.

Wonderful meal!

By JCPlano |

We had a wonderful dinner at Al Biernat's North, starting with the Hostess who seated us at a wonderful booth away from large parties. Our server, Stephanie, was outstanding in every way! My Husband and I both have some dietary restrictions - she helped us in choosing the perfect meal! Thank you for another great evening enjoying wonderful food!

An Elegant Upscale Steakhouse

By Peter M |

This elegant steakhouse not only has exceptional steaks but great seafood and a variety of other fine dining choices. The restaurant’s rib eye special was delicious. The portion so generous that my wife and I were easily able to share it. The au gratin potatoes were the perfect accompaniment. The crème brûlée dessert was a sweet creamy delight. This is an elegant, upscale steakhouse with warm decor and exceptional service. Our waiter, Johnathan, was quietly attentive and did a wonderful job describing highlighted items from the menu. Take his recommendations. They are spot on. While I am sure there are many great steakhouses in Dallas, this one had it all. Elegant atmosphere and ambiance, exceptional service, and amazing food. While the prices may seem high they are quite reasonable given both the quality of the food and the size of portions.

Wonderful!

By Friscoliz |

We visited on Saturday night and everything was perfect. The completely newly refurbished old Del Frisco’s is a delight. Windows, open upstairs bar patio, comfy booths and a great new bar. The service and food incredible. The escargots, oysters and tuna poke appetizers were fabulous. All three steaks...filet and bone in filet terrific. Coconut cream pie scumptious. Our new favorite steak place!

Wow, taking out a 2nd mortgage

By glenagrit |

Took my son for his birthday celebration on a monday night. Restaurant was packed. We ordered the seafood platter as a special appetizer and he had a steak. I ordered halibut as I don't eat meet. Big portions all the way around. Didn't need any sides as it came with the entree. Our server was great. She did an outstanding job and recognized the birthday boy as soon as we sat down. Wine list is very heavy on American wines. Few old world choices. Sticker shock when the check came. Wow, very very pricey! Good for them, that they are doing well. Felt it was very much overpriced.

Outstanding! A notch above all the other higher end steakhouses!

By texmex2 |

Hasn’t tried this location yet. Glad we did. Celebrated birthdays and perfect from beginning to end. Steve was our server and he was personable, attentive, and accommodating to some of our party’s different requests. But the food was simply outstanding! Steaks were some of the best we’ve encountered in a long time. Sea Bass was perfection. All the shareable sides were so good too. Notable were the lobster mac, onion straws, corn, asparagus… and of course desserts to die for. The chocolate fondue cake memorable!! Just go!

Great but could be better & should be better

By DontMoke |

Top flight steakhouses in Dallas are in oversupply. So how does one select for an anniversary dinner? We picked the newest kid on the block: Al Biernat's North. At this price point everything should be perfect. Some were but some were not, which is sad because they are easily fixable. We dined in a booth at the bar on a Friday night. Wines by the glass were tasty & reasonably priced. A refill I ordered took 20 minutes to arrive, when I was half finished with my steak. Bread is served with the meal, gratis, as usual at steakhouses. These were room temperature slices of bread, though. Many places provide WARM bread, which, once you've had it, room temperature slices are not as good. Our server was a nice attractive young lady. Hopefully she is new to the job because she was not well informed. My wife asked her about the veal chop and I asked her about the wet-aged NY strip steak, she had no information, but worse she didn't say, "let me find out for you." I ordered a steak supplied by the ranch Local Yokal, only to learn 25 min later they had run out of that particular steak. I changed my order. My side dish of shisito peppers was delivious, as was my wife's salad. We'd order those again. My wife's steak was slightly more done than expected but fine, very tasty. Mine was distinctly underdone. That is easily fixable, but at a steakhouse like this, medium rare should not be served rare. We were too full for dessert. I am willing to give these guys another chance, but I'd rather go with a proven front runner like 3 Forks or Pappas.

Very disappointing

By Boo913 |

This is one of my friend’s favorite restaurants and she treated me to lunch. I ordered the salad with steak. While the greens were okay and the dressing was tasty the steak was too tough to chew! It was not only tough it had gristle throughout the pieces. Had it not been for my friend treating me to lunch I would have sent it back. Awful for such a highly rated, high end restaurant.

Absolute perfect evening!

By mshbnyehud |

Our evening was fabulous! OK, it's a pricey steak but we split the Cowboy Ribeye, cooked absolutely perfectly, with oh so tasty seasoning and definitely enough for 2 persons to split. Side orders of mushrooms and green beans were as close to perfect as I could ever imagine. The green beans had a small 'kick" with the kitchen adding in an acceptable level of red pepper flakes. Our complimentary key lime pie (celebrating my date's birthday) was not ideal but you can't argue with free. Service was impeccable!! Somehow, perhaps by reading our body language, the server let us do what we wanted to do, which was to have a long conversation during drinks, and he didn't bother us at all. Smart move! Dinner was just a fabulous experience!

Superior Steak

Very nice restaurant. Good service. High prices, but they are justified. Steak was a ten. Cream corn nice. Bread and butter ok, nothing exceptional. Service good.

New location, same good food, different atmosphere

By teri lou |

hosted our anniversary dinner at the 2nd location of Al's. I was surprised they opened a 2nd restaurant after being in business for so many years. But there are so many more people living in that part of town now and not any nicer restaurants. Food was same excellent quality. The place was packed. We finished dinner and went upstairs to patio and enjoyed after dinner drinks, weather was great and everyone enjoyed the atmosphere.

Disinterest of the Manager

By Bill |

The date was 2/16/19 at 10:30 am. I know it was late to make reservations, but I was being spontaneous. The only time they had open early was at 5 PM. OK. That was the time! Remember, this is a very competitive dining environment in the Dallas area. Something has to stick out and make you want to return to the restaurant if the food or service or ambience is not right why would someone return. There are too many choices. Long and short of this adventure is the food and service was as good as anyplace. But, we were seated away from the bar by the gas fireplace and yet the boom box bass was thumping at the bar area. I want to talk with my wife not look at my cell phone all night. I asked the waitress to have the volume turned down. They turned it down, but not very much. I had to repeatedly ask my wife to "say again" what she said. It was because the background noise coming from the bar..boom..booom. boom. I told the waitress as we left to mention it to the manager. She said she would. I called last night around 10 pm to talk with the manager and I did. He was totally indifferent. Instead of realizing the ambience is what is going to make people come back because food and service will always be up ther..he said, next time ask to be reseated. If there is a next time, I will be reseated in my VEHICLE AS I LEAVE THE PLACE.

Awesome steak house

This place was wonderful, service, food, drinks! Melt in your mouth steak. Try the mushrooms for a side they are a must! A close second is the creamed corn. Enjoy!

Good food but loud atmosphere

By Tom D |

Had a dinner with business associates on a Thursday evening and enjoyed the food. Started with the seafood tower, which was a nice combination of oysters, crab meat, shrimp and a split lobster tail. My date had the Chilean sea bass and just loved it and I shared a tomahawk rib eye with another in the group. The rib eye, good and well cooked and served with herb butter which was a nice touch. Creamed spinach was also very good, seemed to be made with fresh spinach and has excellent flavor. Tried the coconut cream pie which was good, though a lot more solid than any cream pie I've ever had. All in all it was a good meal. Only hiccup in service was a forgotten drink order, took a second request to get it done. Only overall drawback is the noise. A loud environment is not unique to Al's but it would be nice if high end places used more sound dampening in the decor. Hard walls and loud patrons don't mix in my opinion. The staff must be deaf by the time they go home each night. Too many patrons feel they need to shout to be heard and it just gets louder from there.

High end, almost flawless

By mshbnyehud |

For a very high end restaurant like Al Biernat's North, you'd best have perfect execution to justify the nearly off-the-charts prices here. For the non-rich and famous, this is truly a special occasion place, worthy of it's reputation, but not perfect. Notwithstanding a very nice atmosphere and wonderful staff, small mistakes get noticed when the steak costs over $50 and virtually everything else on the menu (sides/salads/appetizers) are all over $10 each. It adds up. We arrived to excellent valet parking on a drizzly night, where valet hosts immediately provided umbrellas to assist with the transfer inside the restaurant. Our reservation was immediately identified and we were seated in the upstairs dining area. Upstairs is, I think, slightly less noisy as downstairs, but about 5 degrees (or so it seems) warmer. We weren't uncomfortable, but did notice the difference. Our server immediately delivered menus and took drink orders, and offered to order appetizer as well. My cocktail arrives in a frozen glass -- very nice touch for vodka on the rocks! We loved the prawns blackened -- large and very tasty. A perfect introduction. My spouse and I split a large filet mignon, which was certainly sufficient for us, perfectly cooked and delivered on a warm plate with a puree of pumpkin, I think? It was quite good. My only wish was that one ounce of natural juice would be drizzled over the top of the filet. It was moist to be sure, but being able to dab the pieces into natural juices would have been nice. (We purposely chose not to order the other sauces offered as extra on the side.) Other orders similarly were delivered with perfect execution. We enjoyed a heaping order of onion strings, sufficient to easily serve 4 persons, and broccoli which was steamed and delivered very hot -- again well executed. Since it was a special occasion, the server offered a complimentary dessert for us to share -- we went for carrot cake, very tasty, but a bit too refrigerated for our liking. It came out colder than room temperature, which wasn't ideal. Other small mistakes included failing to deliver an ordered glass of red wine in time to enjoy with the steak. I tried to cancel it (since I was half way done with the steak) but the server said she would "take care of it" (which I interpreted as, "the house will comp the glass of wine."). The glass of wine was not comped, and I chose not to complain. Although quieter upstairs, the noise level is still pretty vibrant when the room is full. We had a normal conversation but it wasn't that easy to hear. All in all, with tax/tip included, and splitting some dishes and 2 drinks per person, the total came to $100 per person. Like I say, it's for special occasions.

Terrible Service

By Marcus T B |

Having dined previously at the Al Biernat Oak Lawn location, we decided to try the “North” location on Spring Valley Rd. What a difference. Oak Lawn was a superb meal with wonderful service. At “North” the waitress was absolutely horrible. The appetizer soups arrived barely warm. Water glasses were not refilled. Removed forks were not replaced. Her manner boarded on surly, and she demonstrated a complete ignorance of fine dining service. She disappeared for long periods of time, at one point I finally went looking and found her socializing behind the hostess stand. Even speaking to the manager brought no satisfaction – all he would do is offer a gift certificate for a future visit. No thanks, we will never be back. An expensive birthday dinner for 4 turned into a most regrettable choice of restaurants.

Abhorant

By jsallee2018 |

To say that I was disappointed with Al Biernat's North is an understatement. My experience started off quite well. Due to a major traffic accident, I was late to my reservation, but they were VERY accomodating and still seated us. Everything went downhill from there. We ordered drinks, appetizers, and dinner. Drinks were good, appetizers tasted fine, then dinner came out. We both ordered a filet, mine was medium rare and was the "special" and hers was normal. We get them, and they mixed up the order- mine was well done with the "special" topping and hers was medium-rare. Worth mentioning now, that after ordering I was told they were out of the special topping but would make something comparable for a "small" upcharge. As an aside, we NEVER send food back unless it is inedible and then we expect credit back for it as it was uneaten. We also do not ask for refunds for the food we eat, even if we choke it down. When I tell a waiter/waitress or a manager about a problem, it is feedback so that they can correct it for improvements to the establishment. So we tell the waitress that they made a mistake, but we will eat them, and she makes a HUGE production about removing the steaks from our bill and they will "make it right". We argue it is not necessary, but she absolutely insists. So we agree. We finish our meal and the waitress asks us if we want dessert. We don't and she again makes a huge production about us buying some dessert. We feel bad since she is removing the steaks from the meal and acquiesce with a slice of pie to go. Then she gives me the bill. She did not remove the steaks as promised. instead she "comped" the dessert and two inexpensive drinks. She lied to me AND upsold me something I did not want and comped it instead. Then I notice there was a HUGE upcharge on the "special" because they were out of the Thermodore but would make something "comparable". Then the appetizer "seafood tower" for ONE PERSON (6 shrimp, 6 oysters, and half a very small lobster, and a few bites of lump crab meat) was 120$ So if you are in the mood to go to a nice place and get lied to and ripped off - this is the place for you. After I posted about this on social media, I had half a dozen of my friends tell me they had very similar experiences there. Needless to say - they got by on me once, but will never happen again. Del Frisco Double Eagle in Plano is far better in quality, I've never felt ripped off there for the price of the food, and most importantly I have never been lied to there. Captial Grill downtown is the same, very nice, good quality, and no dishonesty.

Never Disappoints

Consistently one of the best steak houses in the country. Food is amazing, service is amazing and they have a world class wine cellar. Great for work dinners or getting together with friends.

Fantastic experience with private birthday party

By Michael E |

We had a very special birthday party in a private room with about 30 people. The restaurant and staff were fantastic! Accommodating in every way. The food was excellent. We could not have asked for anything else to be improved. A ++* review

Good Clone

By mariahbay |

Tough to have a perfect clone, but Al's has done it at the North location. Friday's prime rib was terrific, albeit the accompanying green beans were a little tough for our bunch. Calamari done here is the best in town. Key lime pie with blood orange sorbet is not to be missed. Reasonably priced wine list. Service just as good as downtown. I think this location will be our go to for the future.

Different Locastion, Same Hospitality!

By MLHDallas_TX |

I have always loved Al's on Oak Lawn so I was excited to see a new location opening up. We tried this one out for a weekday Girl's Birthday lunch. While it was not crowded on this day? It was a super good meal with the same excellent service you have come to expect from Al Bientat's. We had a variety of items from the menu and everything was perfect! I did not get a chance to walk all the way around, but the decor looked great. Very sleek and to me, looked like it fits in with the North Dallas Vibe. Give it a shot! Sea Bass is off the charts good if you want to venture out of the steak range.

Best meal we've had in a couple of years!

By Rick M |

Best meal I've had in a couple of years! Outstanding service and food. I have been looking for a Peppercorn Encrusted NY Strip for years that matched the one I had in CA in the 70's. Hard to find. Normally pale in comparison if you do find one. Al Biernat's had an outstanding Peppercorn Encrusted NY Strip. Good size and cooked to perfection. More than pleased... My wife had the Horseradish Encrusted Halibut and she raved about the flavor. The salads are large but delicious. We should have shared one. Had the Garlic Mashed Potatoes which was a large serving and equally tasty. Our server Seneca was outstanding as well. All in all a night and restaurant we will not soon forget.

I expected better service at the bar

By txchiquita22 |

My 1st visit here my 2 friends & I sat at the bar upstairs and munched on several delicious apps and were treated like queens by the bartender. Of course it helped that we were the only ones up there AND we spent $100 on martinis alone. The bar wellingtons, bar ceviche & bar jalapenos were all tasty up there. On my 2nd visit I managed to snag two seats at the bar downstairs. So nice and naturally bright with beautiful landscaping outside! The prime rib was delicious, although I was disappointed that they tossed my leftovers (3/4 of the steak) into a cheap, flimsy box that popped open right away. I was also disappointed that my friend & I were invisible most of the time. I had to rudely clank my empty water glass & martini glass together not once but twice to get one of the 3 people behind the bar to notice me for my 2nd & 3rd drink. I have never, ever had to resort to that action. They were not that busy to ignore me in this way. I was at the bar, right in front of them! I work & live nearby so will probably be back for the delicious prime rib but get some new takeout boxes and show me some respect.

Never disappoints!

By Janet G |

Al Biernat’s is incomparable! Everything about it is perfection. Our server, Travis, was amazing—gave a great recommendation & his service was thoughtful, patient & attentive without being intrusive. James Gee, Manager extraordinaire, came to our table several times to check on us & visit (he is very friendly, warm & engaging) and didn’t appear rushed despite the crowd. This restaurant never disappoints. It is our “go to” place for special occasions & every day dining as well. Lunch is great too!

Amazing Dinner!

By Joan R |

This was the second time I had been to Al Biernat’s North in Dallas and it was amazing both times. Everyone was incredibly nice and accommodating. The bone in filet was so the best steak I have ever had. The wedge salad and brussel sprouts were fantastic, too. Of course dessert was exceptional. I had creme brûlée and my husband had the cheese cake. Both were delicious. If you want an exceptional meal and experience, visit Al Biernat’s North!

Disappointed about the coconut cream pie

By Nancy M |

The coconut cream pie was not the same as the original and for which they are famous. Crust is too hard. Filling is too thick.

Awesome Food

By KenFees |

We were a table of only 6, but the sommelier stopped by and recommended a great California Cabernet, which we loved. Great service! I had a cut of Prime Rib that was to die for. Wife had a sampler plate. The other 4 all seemed to love their food. Can't brag about the waitress, cuz she just wasn't very sharp, but the food and service made up for her lack of ability, or time, because they were pretty busy.

Wedding reception of a LIFETIME

By Kelly M |

Not only a GORGEOUS new restaurant by a top Dallas steakhouse, but I had decided based on the atmosphere and food alone (from multiple previous visits) that I would host my wedding reception here. Melissa Neumann served as our coordinator and I truly felt like I had hired her separately. She was INCREDIBLE. Worked with us on a completely custom dinner and drink menu, allowed us to flex which rooms to flow the cocktail hour to dinnertime from and gave us complete private access upstairs. This was all before COVID. Post-COVID as we had several guests drop out last minute, she immediately dropped everything to work on reallocating our menu items towards the new minimum and continued to make us feel just as special. The day of our wedding, she brought in fresh flowers matching my wedding colors (nothing we had expected or asked for) and had all of the decor setup and ready by the time I got there--we did NOTHING! The food and service (Ben was our server) was INCREDIBLE and they had a slideshow I sent them and custom playlist playing in our room. It was the best wedding reception I could have ever asked for and every single wedding guest said it was the best food they had had. Would recommend this place to literally anyone and everyone. Not a single bad word to say. INCREDIBLE!!!!!

Wonderful Experience

By Alan B |

Had a wonderful dinner with a friend who brought me here. Jeff, our waiter was fantastic. I had the Roasted Halibut, which was delicious. My friend had the Chilean Sea Bass, which she also liked. We had asparagus and green beans as sides, which were also great. Managers came by to check on us, not in an intrusive way, it was good attention. They had a nice selection of whiskeys. No room for dessert for me this time.

Not to be Missed!!!

By Happiness61480911655 |

I had the 22 oz Cowboy Ribeye, with blue cheese on top and the table shared Lobster Mac & Cheese, Crab Cakes and Wild Boar Bolognese. All I can say is WOW! The food was amazing! I drank the Vodka Martini with blue cheese and salt on the rim, (sounds strange, but it was great!), along with a glass of house Cabernet with the steak, which was also excellent. The only thing that can make a meal like this better is excellent service, which is exactly what we received. Cassidy was our server, and she was attentive without being intrusive, anticipated our needs, knew the menu and made some excellent recommendations. James Gee, the manager stopped by our table, left us his card and should be proud of the ship he captains. Bravo!

Excellent Steakhouse

By t-bonetraveller |

Located just north of the Galleria Mall near Addison, TX, this is a very good standard American steakhouse. Staff started out a bit robotic, but as the night wore on, everyone from the waitstaff to the sommelier were quite friendly and knowledgeable. Many different cuts of beef to select from and a surprisingly large number of seafood entrees as well. My small filet was cooked to perfection. Salty and crunchy on the outside and succulent on the inside. Sides are huge and can easily be shared with one or more other guests at the table. Good wine selection priced at about 3x store price. Compares favorably with other steakhouses in the Dallas area.

Disappointing

By Beachelise |

My husband and I tried the Al’s North location and it isn’t anything like the original. The server we had was very “entitled”. I think we saw him 3 times and he told us somewhat inappropriate stories of his son taking speed - and I’m not sure why. I think the floor manager filled our wine and water glasses more than anyone. Our seafood appetizer was good( crab cakes, calamari and shrimp) but the entrees were lackluster and my husbands steak that was ordered mid- rare was pretty black and blue with no follow up from our server or management. Everything needed salt so maybe they play to an older crowd. Definitely won’t be returning to this location only to the original as it doesn’t really seem as though the servers or floor staff really care about the customer experience.

New atractivo location for me

By Ikemx |

Had been previously at their Oak Lawn location, this one has a very different feel modern here old school there, like two different restaurants Food and service were as good as the Oak Lawn location, service was also very good Lamb chops were excellent, perfect temperature The nice levels were too high to have a good conversation

Extremely Disappointing Dinner

By Linda H |

The restaurant was very noisy. The food was terrible. We ordered the seafood appetizer and the waitress did not tell us raw oysters were included and I do not eat these due to health risks. We had the sole stuffed with crab over spinach. It was dry tasteless and slightly fishy tasting. We had a steak which came with no sides and only a tablespoon of sweet potato puree. The steak had poor taste. The wine prices were extremely over inflated in cost. We will not be returning. Unfortunately it was a birthday dinner and we had looked forward to it..

Hands down the best meal of my life

By Hunnybunch776 |

I went here last night with my team of co-workers and I have never been to a place of this caliber before. First off there is only valet parking so remember that and bring cash. They are very fast with returning the cars as well. Once inside the massive doors it's a bright and cheery entrance with a host stand directly in front of you. The hosts all wear dresses and heels. To your right there is a very lively bar with seating all around. To your left there is a spacious dining room with another special room in the back. There is also a staircase to a 2nd floor but we didn't go up there. Our waitress Bonnie was top notch. She was an older lady who really knew her info. She gave us a lot of time in between courses just like we asked for. We said right from the start we didn't want this to be a rushed dinner. The drinks were perfect. We started with an order of crab cakes, tenderloin tartare and escargot. I have had crab cakes at other places and I've never had them as massive or as tasty as these. The tartare and escargot are all new to me. (Hence when I said i've never been to a restaurant of this caliber) I figured what the heck and I dove right in. The sauce on the escargot I could drink with a straw. The tartare had the chipotle tabasco sauce on the side so you could add as much or little heat as you wanted. When it was time for our entree orders Bonnie listed out the specials and got every detail perfect. I felt like I was tasting it in my mouth! But alas, my heart was already set on the chilean sea bass (again another new thing for me). Bonnie assured me it was a great choice and a top seller. Others at the table got scallops, waygu fillets and lobster. My sea bass on that delicious bed of lobster risotto with basil and citrus was melt in your mouth. The bass had a nice crust on it as well. I had a bit of someones lobster which was so fresh. They had big lobsters last night. I also had a bite of waygu filet and that was like butter. So tender and scrumptious. The sides we got were wild mushrooms, asparagus and sweet potatoes. The sweet potatoes are whipped so beautifully they are so light and airy and wonderful. Bonnie left us enough time in between for us to digest our meals and finish our drinks then she presented us with the dessert menu and suggested the coconut creme pie. We ended up going with pecan pie and the key lime cheesecake with blood orange sorbet and some espresso shots. When the desserts came she ended up bringing us a slice of the coconut creme pie. That was divine and totally my favorite of the 3. No wonder I see that talked about in so many reviews. The key lime was pretty tasty as well. The serbet was a refreshing touch as well. All and all this was such a pleasant evening dining at this restaurant. I would highly recommend it. It's pricey but worth it for special occasions.

Perfect for Special Occasion

The entire experience was what we expect from a high end steak house. The ambiance was elegant, the steaks delicious and perfectly prepared , and the service was friendly and attentive. It was a very enjoyable meal.

Very enjoyable birthday week celebration

By CarpeDiemDFW |

We had a great experience from the moment we made the reservation until we left the restaurant. This is a beautiful spot that was once the old Del Friscos, which was very much in need of a facelift. The layout, seating, Our server, Stephanie, was great (she's a Jennifer Aniston Doppleganger)! They have a good selection of wines by the glass including Caymus, which is difficult to find by the glass. We had two appetizers, calamari and sashimi. Both were very good. The calamari came with two dipping the sauces, the red sauce having a very unique flavor to it that was quite different than your average marinara. The sashimi also came with a small side salad, a horseradish drizzle, and the other standard sushi accoutrements. We ordered the filet and sea bass entrees, both of which were perfectly prepared. The sea bass came on a bed of lobster risotto and the filet had a small side of sweet potato mash. It was my birthday so they treated us to a slice of chocolate cake which was the perfect ending to the meal. The only critique I might make is one I read in a few other reviews--the breadbasket, while varied, was just so-so. We had a great experience and will definitely be back again!

Anniversary

What an awesome experience. Only if almost all of the eating establishments in dallas had as high of a standard as Al Beirnats. Thank you and we will return soon. Must haves....Avacado Toast and the Wellington bites.

Love at first bite

By Honey G |

This is a happening spot. The service is A1 and the food is to die for. Started with calamari it was delicate, light and crisp. Ordered the shrimp and grits..love at first bite. Plump juicy shrimp with creamy grits and an amazing amazing amazing sauce!! Unfortunately I am not a dessert girl. Those who are shouldn’t be disappointed with the selection. Will definitely eat here again.

Amazing Restaurant with Fantastic Hospitality!

By Karen |

I can't say enough good things about this restaurant. My family and I, along with close friends were in Grapevine for the National Irish Dance Championships. Other friends had gone to this restaurant a day or 2 earlier and highly recommended it so 7 of us went on June 29th. The food was phenomenal but what made this experience so enjoyable was the wonderful staff, particularly the managers Marty Collins and especially, Sam. They both spent so much time chatting with us and treating us amazingly well including sending desserts over, etc. They even took a photo with us and I sent it on to them and Marty thanked me the next day for doing so. The hospitality here, along with incredible food, makes it a definite must if you are looking for a great night out. Thank you again for making us feel at home, when were were so far from home!

Great Place

Not the same Al Biernats that I remeber over the years.

By Scott C |

Very disappointed. Very impersonal experience. The bill was over $400 for my wife and I. Went on a Wed night with 7:00 reservations and had to wait 30 to 45 min to be seated. Simply a routine seat them, serve them and goodbye. The appetizer (crab cakes, oysters Rockefeller) were okay, salad was okay. We ordered 2 Filet Mignon, med rare (served room temp) cold center - horrible. The sides were not special either. Routine flavor is all. Wanted to send steaks back to heat them but waiter never returned to the table to check up. Finally came around after 15 to 20 min after served. All in all, felt as if the whole experience was a waste of time. I've been to Al's several times over the years, but it has gone downhill since Al's passing. Won't be going back. Better choices out there IMO.

Unexpected Gem Around the Corner

By Greg A |

My wife and I were staying at a Hyatt Hotel, and I asked the staff of a close restaurant they would recommend. They recommended one just around the corner, which turned out to be Al Biernat's North. Kelli our server helped guide us in wise food choices. Portions were plenty, so we split a very good pear salad, and a wonderful meatloaf with mashed potatoes and fresh green beans. Had to try their house made desserts. Pleasantly surprised to have an upscale restaurant around the corner.

Overall a good experience

By Ron |

We both had the 10 oz filet, and they were properly prepared. We shared a side of potatoes and onions, which were just average. We started with a house salad and a caesar. Both were very large and could be easily shared. Service was somewhat spotty, for which the server apologized. Atmospheree is very good.
