I actually went 3 times in 1 week after finding this gem! I've had something different each time and all including drinks were fantastic! The chicken shawarma is my fav. I will be frequenting as often as my pocket book allows.

When I scanned the menu I thought it was pricey but they introduced lunch specials that are quite reasonable. The sandwiches are great as are the salad and fries. The baba ghanouj is topnotch also and the pita melts in your mouth as it should. The Turkish coffe, which is often complementary at lunch is a nice addition. Makes me think maybe we should go for an evening meal.

Easy to get to via N/S streetcar, two blocks from a stop. Huge portions of excellent food. Super creamy hummus with warm pita to start, followed by a giant portion of grilled chicken breast shish taouk, with garlic sauce and fluffy basmati rice. Washed down by a thimble of Turkish coffee after a hard pineapple cider. Lovely!

We asked a local in the neighborhood(downtown) for a luncheon suggestion. Al-Hawr (the Christmas Tree) is a real find. We had a very good humus with yogurt and pomegranates along with a delicious wrap with lamb and beef. After the meal we were offered coffee but declined. The owner then appeared with demitasse cups and complimentary coffee. What a nice touch! Go there Portland. I think he said he had only opened this year.

We have now been there twice. The first time we enjoyed it but didn't come away thinking it was great. But, this week we returned and had a excellent meal. The Hommos is fantastic as were the other two dishes we had for dinner. The service is very friendly and efficient. The prices are a little on the high side, but the quality of the food makes up for the food prices. If you are going to have a cocktail or some wine we found that pricing to be very reasonable. Overall, if you are in the South Waterfront neighborhood I would recommend giving it a try. We will be back soon.

We were traveling down to Portland for a Thanksgiving holiday with family and stayed at a nearby hotel. We drove around all the new condo and office buildings and came across this place and read some reviews so we decided to try it and so glad that we did. Probably one of the cleanest restaurants that i have been to in a long time and we eat out a lot. The Tabolui Salad was so fresh and tasty and enough to serve 4 people and a great way to start along with their complimentary flat bread and hummus. I also had the stuffed grape leaves and my wife had the falafel. Complimentary coffee was given to try with our dessert. A great place for a meal on the south waterfront.

Me and my friends were dining at Al-Hawr Restaurant and we were very happy and satisfied because they have best food, friendly and respectful staff, beautiful decor and very comfortable and cozy atmosphere. We love this place. Definitely we will come back.

We came here for dinner once again, and enjoyed very much our selections for our meals! Husband had the same entree as last time, the filet mignon, and the piece he gave me to try was tender and delicious!! We shared the hummus and bread which was more than enough for two people. I ordered the appetizer of 6 shrimp, "provencal shrimp" which were very tasty as they were seasoned with garlic and other spices, and I also ordered a side dish of their rice which was very good with the sauce from the shrimp. The side of rice was a little spendy at $8.00, but there was enough that I took some home to have for another meal. The servers were friendly and attentive without being overly so, and parking was fairly easy to find in this South Waterfront area. MUCH easier than going downtown to our old favorite Lebanese restaurant!!

We went for birthday lunch and it was wonderful. The falafel sandwich in fresh pita could have fed 2. It was crispy and complex. The salad was creative and tasty. Fries a little soft, could have been crispier. Nice wines by the glass. Attentive service. Will definitely return.

I think I've written about Al-Hawr before, but repeat visits can be informative. We STILL love this restaurant: family run, excellent food, ample portions, great friendly service, relaxed. Most folks would have to make an effort to come here: not downtown Portland, iffy parking. BUT getting here from the I-5 with help from your iPhone or whatever isn't all that difficult and would be well worth the effort.

We ordered a mixed kebab plate with a salad. The chicken was dry, the beef was tough. (The lamb was fine.) The salad with pomegranate dressing was cloyingly sweet and overdone—like pouring sugar over your greens. The best thing was the whole wheat pita bread. The portions are large, and we're glad we shared the salad and kebab plate. For Mediterranean, we preferred the mom-and-pop Moonlight Grille in the Burlingame neighborhood south of downtown.

Really good food here. Portion sizes are great when you eat in the restaurant, but note that if you order online and pick up, the portions are half for the same price. Everything we had here was tasty and delicious, so make a reservation to dine in! The seating host needs some customer service tips.

We happened upon this amazing restaurant and were we ever in for a treat! Despite not having a reservation on a busy Thursday evening, the owner personally saw to it that we were seated promptly, greeted with a warm smile, and were served our appetizers quickly. The meal that followed was some of the best Lebanese food we have ever eaten. Hats off to this family run business …

We had out-of-town friends visiting who needed to return after dinner to the Seattle area as soon as possible, so we looked down on the waterfront for a good restaurant to eat at, and remembered this one with also easy access to the freeway north. We love Lebanese food and since they had never had it, we hoped their dining experience would be good as we knew OURS would be!! We got an early reservation at 5:15 and the timing couldn't have been better! Both of the guys ordered the filet mignon kabobs and both of us gals each got the half grilled chicken entree. I got to enjoy a couple of bites from my husband's meat and the pieces were incredibly tender and delicious! My half chicken was nicely done with an accompaniment of french fries which were also quite good. The rice dish that could have been ordered instead of fries also looked very good and I would probably get that the next time that we come here. And I am sure there WILL be a next time, as everyone enjoyed our meals very much and the parking was so easy!!

This was my second time to Al-Hawr. Both times super service! Both times great food! You should try this for Lebanese/Arabic food. It is great. The server even told me about how the (sesame) seeds are aged so that they are perfect in the olive oil. With the warm bread, they were perfectb Great place, give it a go!

Today i went to Alhawr with friends and we really enjoyed the authntic food .On the other hand ,the service was great

I recently stumbled upon this place for lunch one day. I was craving tabbouli (like I pretty much do EVERYDAY!) and this popped up in my food app. Decided why not and give it a try... and I am so glad I did! The tabbouli is made to order. This is awesome! I am personally not a fan of onions, so I have then omit them and substitute cucumber. It's not heavy on the bulgar wheat (thank goodness) and it's so fresh and so full of amazing flavor. I gobbled it up in no time. I also ordered the samboosik. These little empanadas are tasty!! You get two of them for $6. I also have ordered the tawook sandwich and that was filling and very delicious. I have been coming back to this place at least once a week, and can't wait to try more items. I can't seem to steer pass my favorites (listed above). Thank you for making amazing food!!!

The ambiance of this place is amazing and very upmarket. The wait staff treated you like royalty. The food is authentically Lebanese, tasty and reasonably priced. We will definitely be returning.

Relaxing dining experience in a beautifully appointed space. Soft music. She had the mixed meat platter and liked the chicken the best. I had the ground lamb 'ka-bobs'. Everything came with a nice salad, flat bread, and saffron rice. Plates were about 15.00 for dinner. They also have lunch at about $10.00 per sandwich offering. Complementary Lebanese coffee after dinner. Very friendly, the staff needs to step up a bit...ie: clearing the plates, also, cloth napkins would be an added touch for this otherwise high class establishment. Located near the bottom of the tram.

A very nice addition to the south waterfront area. This Lebanese restaurant offers authentic food and it is delicious. We were three couples and ordered about five different items; we couldn't decide which one was the best, they were all done very well. Fresh ingredients, good spices, good portions. A full bar and a nice wine list.

Visited with family last week. Everyone enjoyed their meal and a nice touch was the complimentary coffee served at the end of dinner. Highly recommend this family run restaurant. Will definitely return.

Recently opened for lunch, my husband, daughter and I have been there several times already. We especially enjoy the "wrapped" sandwiches, containing beef filet, chicken, falafel and others, with bits of greens and various kinds of sauces. Each arrives with a generous serving of some of the best French Fries we have over head. Salads are delightfully fresh and crisp. My favorite is of chunky beets served over a bed of romaine, and with a fabulous oil and vinegar dressing. It is large enough to share, as is a decadent brownie for dessert, accompanied by a huge scoop of a light vanilla and a drizzle of chocolate syrup. Service is warm and friendly. The "hidden" part is related to the fact that you should know where it is located on SW River Parkway: on the NW corner just N of the Meriwether condos, and across the street from the NE corner of the Mirabella, two blocks E of the N-S Streetcar line (get off at the OHSU/SkyTram stop, and walk towards the river).

Al-Hawr saved our skins. Literally. Dinner was planned with the entire family at the upscale senior living community where the parents are. Reservations made, family gathered, cool drinks quaffed (it was a 90+° day) and we trekked to the BBQ. Unfortunately, the staff had reserved for us the only table in full sun. Ummmm……nope. And no go on being seated at any other table with shade…all reserved. So we re-trekked away and across the street to Al-Hawr. Aaahhhh, blessed A/C, high ceilings, attractive decor, sympathetic and hospitable-without-being-obsequious waitstaff. We were seated immediately and began perusing the charming menus. I use the word “charming” because the menus are sort of rustic leather-bound with kind of fancy upscale printing augmented with human touches like handwritten items and sticky labels. I adore them. (They saved our skins because we didn’t have to sit out in the blazing sun.) Small but interesting wine list accommodates every palate. If you’ve never tried Lebanese wine, do so. It’s quaffable and challenging in a good way, and really suits the food. And oh, the food…. Hummus (maybe, just maybe as good as Tusk’s), mtabal (smoky eggplant dip), fresh baked pita with a za’atar oil dip and a labneh (thick yogurt), falafel that’s not dry and icky, batata harra (themostyummyfriedpotatoeseverwithgarlicandchilesandcilantroyumyumyum), kibbeh (deep fried balls of spiced ground beef), cheese rolls (yummmmmmmyyyyy deep fried rolls filled with a salty, tangy, herbed farmer’s cheese), a refreshing tabouli that was mostly parsley and lemon. And these were just appetizers! We did order the chicken shawarma, but could have stuck with apps. At least the bro went home with leftovers. Are you hungry yet? You should be. Lovely touches like the complimentary teeny cups of Lebanese coffee (brewed with cardamom, maybe?) at the end of the meal, nice quiet atmosphere that feels casual and luxurious and local and exotic all at the same time…all make this gem a restaurant not to be missed. Please do yourself a favor and go. Now. This is one South Waterfront restaurant that deserves to live a long, prosperous life. Don’t let parking (or lack thereof) keep you away. Take the streetcar. It’s fun. Oh, and the mom of the waitstaff is the chef. Whoa. (This was our second visit, but the parents and people in their building are regulars, some eating there every week. This place needs to stay.)

We went for an early dinner at Al-Hawr. Our table ordered as much variety as we could. Our starters were the sampler platter with grape leaf, humus, and 4 other choices with pita bread. We split up the kabobs, Kafta and the mixed kabob dinner, with rice and small salad also. We tried the dessert of Knafeh, which is a bit sweet and cheesy.Over all, we had a good meal. It was nice to meet the owner and his sons in the restaurant. Mom is the cook in the back.

This restaurant is down amongst the condos and OHSU medical buildings on the waterfront. I have been there multiple times because of needed visits to OHSU. Kind of hard to get to but if you are in the area it is the best thing going. The owners and wait staff are very nice and friendly. The food is terrific. I recommend the Top Sirloin Skewer from the appetizer menu. Very clean and comfortable with just a little outdoor seating.

I didn't have like this fresh and delicious food ever ,especially the Tabbouli and grape leaves they were over rate. Moreover, the owners and the staff were very nice. We loved everything, we definitely will come back. Love this place.

This is a perfect place to eat in this new Portland neighbourhood - part of a health care campus and near the base of the space-age air tram. The tangy, smokey eggplant dip, the fattoush salad with pomegranate molasses dressing, the perfectly done and flavourful mixed meat grill were all big hits. A perfect end to the feast were mint tea and a few baklavas... Warning: portions are huge, more for a table of 4 than for a couple of diners. You might have to take some of this home!

I love this little family owned/run restaurant! My second time here, I brought an out of town friend for something a little different. Food is authentic, staff is so friendly and helpful. My guest and I shared a couple of items, and still had leftovers. I will definitely be back, and I recommend anyone to go for a unique experience!

Great food, but arrogant, rude and disrespectful young female server. Crossed up credit card charges & did not make a correction. Said the charge was waived, but $46 charge still posted.
Okay experience
Good but not amazing. I ordered the salmon kabobs with an appetizer beet salad. Everything tasted okay, but nothing was what I would characterize as fantastic or amazing. The beat salad was a bit disappointing. I purchase steamed beets all the time from trader Joe's and dice them in a bowl with some olive oil and a tiny touch of rice vinegar. The beat salad was a little less than that. In fact, it tasted like some fresh steamed beets that had been diced up and put in a bowl and that's about it. The salmon kabobs were okay. The salmon tasted good, but it was honestly kind of boring. I kind of expected something a little bit more special. The rice was, well, rice. But the broccoli was actually the highlight of the meal. My Diet Coke was kind of flat. Service was Good, and the restaurant was spotless. Even the bathroom was nice. I guess I just expected a lot more.
