Consistently great food, service & atmosphere

By SAAFAM |

We absolutely love Aldaco's in Stone Oak for many reasons. The service is always friendly and top-notch. Absolutely love the wait staff. They are great with kids, adults...everyone! The food is consistently wonderful. I absolutely love their fajitas as well as the chili relleno preparations. The MPO margarita is sooo good! Although the hilltop view is spectacular and one of my favorite in San Antonio, Aldaco's is also a great place to relax on rainy night. We are happy sitting outside or inside, depending on the weather. This is one of our favorite places to eat, drink and be merry!

Lovely Patio with a Beautiful View, Excellent Service and OK Food

By Flavor Mosaic |

My husband and I were in search of a restaurant with a nice patio where we could enjoy the great weather that evening. We decided on Aldaco's Mexican Cuisine - Stone Oak. It was our first visit. The outdoor patio and the view lived up to their reputation. We enjoyed the atmosphere very much. The server was very kind and efficient. She made one mistake in giving us the wrong type of fajitas but she and the staff rectified that very quickly and she apologized. They all were very professional about it. I was impressed with the service and how well they handled an honest mistake. I wanted to like the food as much as we liked the atmosphere and the service, but in my opinion, it was just ok. It was not bad, but it was not up to the standards that I would expect at a restaurant like this. They have a lot of competition, and they exceeded the competition with the atmosphere and service but not the food. The food is good but not as good as some of their competitors in that price range. We will probably give Aldaco's another try on another beautiful day.

Panaramic view are great .....

By WindyCity2011 |

This restaurant in the Stone Oak area is quite popular at lunchtime. Service is overwhelmed at this time of day...but we've learned the Happy Hour is quite good. Meals were plentiful but on the whole, flavorless. The view of the hilltops are quite special ...this is a wonderful piece of property, and I can imagine, very romantic and pretty in the evening when lights are on ..... Go for the atmosphere.

Beautiful view

We had drinks and appetizers. The staff was attentive and the food was very good. The view is breath taking but wait for a cooler time of year to visit.

Nice Restaurant

By pumpkin1062 |

We were taken here for a company dinner with about 60 other people. The waiters were very good and stayed on top of all our drink orders. We were given a choice of three main courses and three desserts. I ate the beef and it was good not too fond of the rice. My husband had the fish and a different rice and both were very good. It is a newer restaurant and is very pretty. Would I go again, not unless I was staying at the JW Marriott again. This restaurant is far from the river walk and that is were we usually stay when in SA,

Awesome Mexican food

By Jaymini P |

While visiting our friends, we were highly recommended by them to try out this restaurant. It was Monday, not all crowded - was great. The decor and ambiance was nice and space spacious. Our hostess was very friendly and our orders were promptly delivered. The presentation was great and to my surprise - from past dining at Mexican restaurants, I have always received refried black beans on the side but this time; it was soup like beans. Overall, I enjoyed my meal and received an excellent service. I would definitely return to this place.

Great Mexican dining

By Marianne B |

We love this place on a hill in San Antonio. Great food and superb patio! The food is wonderful as are the margaritas... I highly recommend a patio seating for a great view and a memorable dining experience! Marianne~December 2016

Outstanding service, Dissapointing Food.

By OWL78654 |

Friendly and professional staff. Ordered an apetizer of Queso and chips. It was ok. The chips arrived warm in a white paper bag, stapled at the top. I ordered a Mexican plate with 2 enchiladas and a taco. Came with rice and beans. Very dissapointing. The cheese enchiladas were supposed to be covered in chili con carne. They were instead covered in cheese. One teaspoon of dry meat on top. Bland. No onions.. Jjust tortillas and cheese. The refried beans were the best part. Pretty good. Rice very poor. Flavored with some garlic, Nothing else. No cumin. No chili powder. Boaring. Bland. Suspect that the chef is front New Jersey. Certainly not Texas. Taco also bland and boring. Not as bad as the rice. Tea was good. Both salsas quite salty, fairly hot spicy. I did not eat but about half. It just was not that good. Service excellent. Refilled all the tea many times. Never ran dry. They offer a great variety of alcohol. Nice view. Prices are high. A fancy place. The ladies liked it. I do not care to spend a lot on atmosphere, when the food is lacking. Bill for two without tip was $62.

Gorgeous view!

By LuanneinTtown |

This restaurant is situated on a bluff, overlooking a beautiful view of the surrounding area. The decor inside and even outside on the patio adds to the wonderful ambiance. I ordered shrimp fajitas and was very pleased with the quality and the taste. I thought the cost of the entrees was a little high, but this is not your average Mexican restaurant, and it is a very special place to dine.

Favorite restaurant in Stone Oak

By Kristin C |

Aldacos has been one of my favorite restaurants since moving to San Antonio. The food and drinks are always excellent. Great views also.

Horrible service, stale chips

By Charlan379 |

We went to have a nice dinner, and as soon as we were seated, the wait staff was constantly rushing us to order food while we were trying to have a conversation, which was annoying. Another friend showed up, ordered a Dos Equiis, to which the waitress asked if she had wanted it dressed. My friend said yes, then the waitress brought out a regular beer with no salt and lime. We had to remind the waitress twice for some limes. After that our service was pretty much nonexistent until we received our check. Definitely will not be going back here again!

Nice view, food ok, but...

By midwest56 |

Our first time here - the view was nice and the food was good but the staff started mopping down the floors with a strong smelling bleach solution while we were still eating. And then to top it off we were seated looking out the windows and didn't notice we were the last ones there until they started flicking the lights off and on. We were so embarrassed. I would have rather the staff just tell us in a nice way they were getting ready to close!

Best view in San Antonio

By 58Michele59 |

This is just a beautiful place to eat outside at the highest point in San Antonio. Blanca has such a great menu and variety. Love this place! You won't be disappointed. Service is great.

Good food. Great view.

By Nateinusaf |

Good Tex-Mex and a great view are a decent recipe for a good restaurant. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of food. I recommend sitting on the outdoor patio and enjoying the afternoon/early evening with a good drink with friends.

Good food with a view

By Scott D |

This is a great place to have a relaxing lunch with a view. Prices are great for lunch and the menu has a good amount of options. Have come for lunch multiple times during work and have never had a problem being served and eating under an hour.

Great Fajitas

By Misterbunns |

We went here on a Monday evening and took advantage of the Fajita for Two special. The special was just the right amount of food for a hungry couple. The service was excellent and the waiters/waitresses were very attentive. Chips were fresh and just right, the salsa had just the right amount of kick to it. We will definitely be returning !!

Came to celebrate with bf grandparents

By Stephanie A |

Me and my bf have been here before about 3 years ago and we loved it before and wanted to share it with 2 of our favorite people while we were on the way we were talking highly of this place and how it’s amazing service and how the place is beautiful When we first got here we were greeted as usual by the hosts then while we got seated the waitress quickly came around and greeted us and brought us drinks after our drinks we got also asked for frozen margaritas and also asked for more chips and salsa so before she left and told us she would bring our margarita on the rocks and chips and salsa here in a bit I had to correct her on the drinks and she acted as if we didn’t say frozen margaritas the first time so we brushed it off figured maybe she was just busy when we were waiting on our chips or our salsa till we received that right when we received our food which was 25 mins later then our drinks didn’t come by the table till 20 mins later she had this attitude the entire Time she came around it just wasn’t pleasant at all maybe today wasn’t her day but Denise just wasn’t pleasing to be around but otherwise the service the food was good but just wished we would have bonded with our waitress more

Nice evening out!

By michelyn318 |

We were staying at the JW Marriott and Aldaco's offers free shuttle service, so we gave it a try. The shuttle driver, John, was prompt and very friendly. The service at the restaurant was very good. Try the Clemen-Tini. It is strong but tastes like fruit punch! The chips and salsa were OK. The ceviche was delicious. I had the fish tacos and I couldn't finish it was just so much food. My daughter had a combination plate that was the perfect size and the sopapilla (sp?) for dessert and loved them. John was waiting in the parking lot when we finished and drove us back to the hotel. Also, we ate outside and enjoyed a beautiful view!

Great margaritas, good food!

By Sarah W |

Love the prickly pear margaritas and the enchiladas. Staff are friendly, and the outside section has beautiful views!

Always Great

By Benny A |

There are a lot of great Mexican restaurants in San Antonio. This is the one my wife and I visit the most. The food is always excellent. From our experience, anything with chicken is going to be outstanding. We usually visit on the weekend during the breakfast/lunch times. The staff is always friendly and helpful. And for romantic dining, their patio and view is very nice at night.

Nice view from the patio, if you can sit there...

By Traveldiive |

This is a nice place if you can get to sit outside on the patio. The interior is nice, but with cement floors it is a little noisy. The service was fast and the food was good, nothing fancy. I ordered the soup and quesadilla. the tortilla soup was a little salty but was not too spicy . The salsa was spicy hot. I ordered the award winning margarita which could have had a little more tequila in it. The the fresh fish cervecie was good, not spicy. We were seated right away inside, but were told that we needed reservations to sit on the patio...so if you go call an reserve your spot on the patio.

Tasty Food - and Gluten-Free Choices!!

By Suz |

My daughter is highly sensitive to gluten, so we have to be careful where we eat. She is also a pescetarian, which makes it harder to find places for her to eat. Luckily, I found Aldaco's, which not only has a gluten-free menu, but their menu includes shrimp tacos. Thank you!! And a big thank you for having a dedicated fryer for your chips so that they're gluten free as well! The service was very good, though admittedly they got my mom's order wrong (she had ordered beef enchiladas and they gave her cheese). However, they did accommodate my daughter's request for sour cream and cheese with her tacos and omitted the onions/peppers as she'd asked. I'm sure they would have corrected my mom's order, but we were in a hurry to catch a flight. Ironically, I realized on the way to the airport that I had forgotten my purse and we had to turn around. I called and they got my purse and had it waiting for me when I ran in. In true Texas fashion, the large amount of cash I'd just pulled out from the ATM and had in my purse was all still there (I love being a Texan) and the folks at the restaurant were super nice and helpful. Thanks again for not only tasty food (the beef fajita had excellent flavor and oh, how I miss handmade tortillas!), but for offering a variety of GF options! We will definitely come back during our next trip to SA!

Table side Guacamole is fresh and tasty

By Cheriejay |

Very large open air patio has a beautiful view off to the East. Tables spaces apart for Covid dining. Service was excellent. We ordered the table side guacamole. Was fresh and flavorful.

The white cake with cream sauce is delicious!

By CoriLyons131 |

Noisy and slow being served, but the food is piping hot and very, very good. (2nd visit.) I am not one to get desserts, but this white cake with cream sauce caught my eye, and even though it cost as much as my lunch, it was worth it! The cake had a cornbread type consistency, and a thick coating of icing (which I didn't eat) but the chilled cream sauce was luscious.

Casual Lunch

By Alanhimmelstein |

Went to this neighborhood restaurant with our family. I ordered the chicken enchiladas which were good but nothing I could not get at dozens of local restaurants. My wife ordered the chicken tortilla soup. It was a huge tureen with lots of chicken, vegetables, and tortilla strips but with zero chicken flavor. She said the liquid could have come out of a hot water tap and added to a bowl of other ingredients. We won't go back.

Great patio!!

By Marianne B |

Al dacos has an amazing view of san antonio from a hill top in Stone Oak. The patio welcomes all ages.. Kids love to play out in the green space with the view before them. The food never disappoints and the prickly pear margarita is perfect for a hot summer evening outside. I would recommend this restaurant for locals as well as out of town guests! Marianne

Great View of the City - Skinny Margarita was Great!

By Sharon M |

We had the fried jalapeños poppers to start. Ordered the chicken fajita and Chile Relleno Al Cilantro. Both of us enjoyed our choices. Also had the Skinny Margarita - very good. If you can sit outside you will love the view - even just to have a drink out there!

Oh so good!!!

By andreafree |

This was a recommendation from our hotel concierge and I’m so glad we listened. I ordered the avocado margarita and it was amazing!! I also ordered the street tacos pastor style and had no regrets. My husband ordered the Arrachea Marisol and it was super flavorful and delicious. We ended the night with flan and sopapillas. If you are in town... this place is a must.

Good food, nice view

By Stacie G |

I went to Aldaco’s for lunch. I was impressed with the children’s chicken strips and fries. They were homemade...not frozen. I like my beef fajita salad. I tasted my husbands puffy taco and it was good. Was it the best? No, but it was good. Ordered a house margarita on the rocks and was surprised when I got the bill and it was $8.50! Yikes! Not even that good.

AVOCADO PUFFY TACOS!!!!! OMG....

By AntoinetteG271 |

Alright, so, we recently moved to San Antonio, and have eaten at hole in the wall taquerias to well know Mexican food chain restaurants. This place was recommended to us, and OMG...mind blown. The food was absolutely AMAZING! The avocado margarita, AMAZING!!! DO NOT KNOCK IT BEFORE YOU TRY IT!!! My palate was in heaven. The rice tasted like my grandmother's, the menu has awesome vegetarian options, and the VIEW of Hill Country is absolutely insanely beautiful! I will be returning this Friday for dinner. If you are ever in San Antonio, PLEASE check this out! I am a really picky Mexican food eater. I blame being from California, lol. You will NOT be disappointed!! Our server was so sweet and informative of everything. The interior is lovely and clean lines, great set up!!

San Antonio Mexican

By tdubbs |

My Family and I love Aldaco's. We have been visiting Blanca and her staff for over 5 years. And have enjoyed it every time. The food, the Service, and The Patio....Not to mention the Drinks. Always Exceptional all the way around. We LOVE Aldaco's...

Dissatisfied

By sgeddessilva |

My family, friends and I have been regulars at Aldacos for years. We love the wait staff, the drinks, food and the atmosphere. It's our neighborhood restaurant, however in the last 6 months there has been a serious downturn in the front of the house. Tonight was the straw that broke the camel's back. The hostess staff is consistently rude, confrontational and downright disrespectful. Our party of 17 walked out this evening and took our business to El Mirasol ( EXTREMELY accommodating). We were told we had a 45 min wait, which we were fine with. Then when some members of our party asked if we could separate our tables into two to make it easier/faster, we were met with extreme attitude. Shortly after we were told our 45 minute had turned into 2 hours. It was obvious we were being punished for questioning the authority of the gatekeeper. The hostess was very unprofessional. She was extremely immature and clearly has no idea how to handle customers. It makes me super sad to think I can't take my family to our favorite spot anymore, but after tonight, there's no way we will be back.

Huge and varied menu makes it hard to select a meal. We had "Baja Fish Tacos" and "Aldaco's Fajitas" and both were very good. Esteban was an outstanding waitperson and accommodated our many varied requests. I recommend this restaurant.

Nice view and good food

By liziiliz |

great view, especially if you are seated outside, good food, good drinks, and the service was great as well. The highlight for me though was the dessert- Chocolate Tres Leches! It was amazing and I would return just for that!

Sunny Saturday Afternoon

By Ranger5000 |

Beautiful day to dine on the patio of this suggested restaurant. Well maybe Not! Inside patrons were sparse, maybe a handful, outside patio was about 80% full. Seated in just a few minutes, time for the first waiter (after we had to ask who was serving our table was 25 minutes). After being served chips and salsa, order was taken in a realistic time frame. Frozen Strawberry Margarita and Mexico 75 (Champagne infused with jalapeno) arrived with water. Margarita was so sweet, my date would not drink it, the Mexico 75 was literally hot.....I had to find a piece of ice from the water to cool it down a bit. Long wait for the food, which came out hot and just OK at best for the San Antonio area with hundreds of restaurants with this kind of cuisine. After a few bites, waited for another 10 minutes to ask for the check and while waiting again for that, my date walked out to wait near the car. About 10 minutes later, a waiter appeared indicating it took some time to run my debit card which is not a strange one, it is used by a hundred thousand or so locals (a local credit union debit card)....OK I have never ever left a review like this, I always try to find the very best because restaurant owners and staff work very hard and sometimes things go bad....but not usually in a sequence like occurred today.

Horrible Experience

By Nicole A |

I have eaten here twice. First time was ok, nothing special about the food or drinks. There is better Mexican in San Antonio than here. The reason for 1 Star is the second time I visited with my husband. We each had a drink, shared the chips and guac and each had a chicken based entree. Later that evening both my husband and I became incredibly ill. When I reached out to the restaurant the manager I spoke with was very apologetic and seemed concerned that we became sick after eating at their restaurant. He told me he would talk with the owner and see what they could do for us. All I wanted was a refund from our dinner. A few days passed and I never heard back so I called again and spoke with the same manager and he informed me the owner was not willing to do anything for us. Basically it was our problem we got sick and that they would not take responsibility. To the credit of the manager he sounded horrified at having to relay this message to me and was apologetic, but if this is what the ownership is like at aldaco’s then I will never return to this restaurant. You lost a customer for life.

delicious!

By marieh99 |

Just got lucky when we found this place! Great margaritas! Everything was very tasty and not your typical tex-mex that is found on every corner. I had fish tacos with rice/refried beans and there was so much flavor in every bite. My husband loved his meal also and we would definitely visit/recommend this place any day.

Very Good Lunch

By VaBeneSRQ |

We recently had lunch at Aldaco's. It is an open restaurant with inside and outside seating. The menu is extensive and what you would expect from a good Mexican restaurant. Service was excellent throughout. Between the four of us we had the fajita plate, several different tacos, and enchiladas--all were very nicely prepared and tasty. We started with the queso dip which was to die for! All in all, a very good dining experience which I would highly recommend if you are looking for good Mexican food!

delicious food

By flamingogal13 |

A t v program had this restaurant on so we decided to eat at the Stone Oak Prkwy location. We were able to chat w/ the owner. She is a very nice lady. We enjoyed our lunch and had a couple of drinks that were good as well. We will visit this or the other location again.

My favorite neighborhood hangout

By RRay |

Close to my office, close to my home, wonderful margarita's, fantastic service, and great food, with a beautiful view of the North valley - what more could someone want. Awesome place!

Outstanding Mexican Restaurant

By Scott O |

We were in town for dinner with friends, and everything was outstanding. I had one of the skirt steak dishes and it was among the best I have ever had. A little pricier than some places but the flavor and quality were well worth it. Location is great overlooking the Stone Oak area. They are doing some remodeling but that did not impact the food or service quality at all. I wish I would have eaten there far more often when I lived in Stone Oak!

Great Food with a View

By Speedy77089 |

Stopped in on a Friday afternoon. The food was great and the waitress was very gracious there. The owmer came by our table and stopped and checked on us, a very gracious lady. We enjoyed our food and will go back again when in San Antonio. The desserts were excellant also.

Great local Atmosphere!

By Stacey C |

Enjoyed a light dinner with a friend while sitting at the bar last week. The corn tortilla shrimp quesadilla was fantastic! But, what I really loved was the atmosphere. It was very comfortable and not too loud so, we were able to have good conversation. I look forward to my next visit.

Meh...a lot of hype for little substance

By JK1969 |

We'd tried to get into Aldaco's before, but the line was too long on a Friday. We managed another try and were seated right away on a Saturday early evening. We sat out on the patio. The view was exceptional, looking to the east. That was where the good part stopped. We had margaritas (one frozen, mine the "bonita"). Neither were special. Pretty bland, actually, and lacking any personality. We also had queso and chips. Their salsa is a roasted salsa, but in our opinion overly roasted. Yes, some kick to it, but the char flavor seemed to overtake the subtleties of the salsa's ingredients. Service was pretty lackluster, so much so that we decided to cut our losses and go elsewhere for a better margarita and dinner. Took forever for the server to come back and take our food order. Not sure we'll be back.

Great queso

By Austin B |

Tasty food. Great atmosphere. Very disappointing service. If you're starving, do not go here because food takes forever to come out. If you're getting drinks, that'll pass the time. Basic Tex-mex cuisine. If you're looking for authentic Mexican food, wouldn't recommend it.

Great surprise.

By Snakehandler666 |

One of best Mexican/ TexMex restaurants ever! Professional, honest service, very good drinks and delicious food with generous portions. I will be going there again, as soon as possible. Try the shrimp Chile relleno. Leave room for the best tres leches cake in the world! Homemade salsa is great.

Very good Comalzos

By Bernie O |

My friend and I ordered Comalazos. Mine was the arrachera and his was the chicken breast. Both were covered entirely with sautéed mushrooms, poblano strips and onions. Very good size as about a 1/3 of each one was lunch the following day. Our server was young, witty and provided very good service. When we were seated outdoors, only one other table was occupied. Within five minutes, the patio was almost full.

Not as good as expected

By Jack A |

We expected a lot better than what we received.slow and indifferent staff , food was similar to the staff, Forgettable,

Worth the wait

By cat |

We had a great dinner. We were told that it would be a 45 minute wait, but we waited only 15. We had to wait a little bit for drinks, but they were extremely busy and we were not in a hurry. The food was VERY good. We will be back.

Fabulous cuisine!

By Jennifer Goldman |

My husband and I have eaten at your restaurant twice and both times have had an excellent experience with superior service. We have dined at world class restaurants across the US, including the James Beard House, and Europe and were particularly impressed by the combination of ingredients that were full of flavor. We are new to San Antonio and have made it a point to explore the city’s Tex-Mex and Latin food culture at a variety of restaurants, we consider Aldaco’s to be one of the very best!

Can't help but love love love this place.

By CocoKim |

They should really put me on the payroll with how often I'm up there and how often I refer this place to people. I love it especially the street tacos (tacos al pastor) and the shrimp tacos. Both are favorites of mine though I've never had anything there I didn't love. The view on the patio is beautiful and the wait staff is almost always superb. With so many Mexican food restaurants to choose from in SA this is a great choice much above most in the northern SA area.

Disappointing Fajitas

By tdanderson |

My wife and I have been to Aldaco's a couple of times and generally have enjoyed the food and atmosphere, but this time was different. I was in the mood for fajitas so that's what I ordered expecting the standard sizzling skillet fajitas. What I got was just a standard plate with fajita meat, fixings, rice and beans. It's not that they don't have the skillets, because the table next to us had a similar, but different, meal brought to them on a sizzling skillet. The fajitas were just ok, partly because the presentation was just poor. I can go almost anywhere and get fajitas on a sizzling skillet, but apparently not at Aldaco's. My wife had the tortilla soup and said it was good and the service was also good. Next time I will order something other than fajitas.

Great staff

By kaharrell |

The atmosphere is beautifully done, and the girls in the front were super sweet. Our waiter, Juan was absolutely hilarious and very attentive. He was very witty and his food suggestions were spot on. Overall everyone loved their food (tacos gringos, beef fajitas, chicken & cheese enchiladas) even though the rice was a tad bland, if you add the beans its delicious! Outside, the view is beautiful, overlooking the hilly terrian. I definitely recommend you try this if your coming through or visiting San Antonio.

Very Disappointed

By Jester2525 |

Chicken Chile relleno was very disappointed. The chicken inside was bland, plain and unflavored. The cream sauce on the outside was nothing special at all. The side rice dish was not flavorful lacked flavor or spice. The chips and salsa was the best part of the meal Side salad was totally an edible The staff was very friendly

Wedding Lunch

By AllenFamily8 |

We had our wedding luncheon here. To get the accommodations straight was like pulling teeth. The food was good. We got to make up our own menu. The service could have been a little better and quicker. The room was really cold and it took them a while to warm it up after we had complained a few times.

Great Start to San Antonio Visit!

By Fine_Meetings |

We had a great experience at Aldaco's. This was my third visit and I love the food! Please start with a skinny margarita and the Center Plate to start your experience. This was followed by CHILE RELLENO AL CILANTRO. It was fantastic flavors and very light. Don't forget dessert! The Tres Leches is AMAZINGLY YUMMY!! This is a great place to have a meeting or a casual dinner. The ambience is upbeat and the service highly attentive.

Avocado margaritas

By M L |

Good food, good service. Amazing avocado margaritas! If you can get outside seating on the patio, there is a nice view. Visited May, 2011

Another good visit

By 96skb |

We had visited in November, and decided to come again when taking my parents to San Antonio for the first time. Sitting outside is definitely a highlight. We all took advantage of the lunch/brunch menu items and enjoyed our food. The chips and salsa are always being refilled and are really good. I love the prickly pear cactus mimosas!

Good Food, poor service, and poor attitude

By riCh r |

One of the best parts of the restaurant besides the food is the view, and therefore the patio. The manager refused to allow people to sit out on the patio of a very beautiful day. The service was slow because only 2 staff were present and the facility was packed. Won't go there until the management changes.

Aldaco's Stone Oak offers the best view!

By cdouglas504 |

Me and my girlfriend frequent this restaurant once a week to get our weekly fajita fix. The view is amazing. You can see all of stone oak from the balcony. The margarita are always good, and the chips and salsa are amazing.

Good views, overpriced.

By bibio952 |

Good for Marguerites', food is average and can be overpriced. San Antonio getting expensive due to it's fast growing population. Service is good but can be slow on Fridays and weekends.

I like the flavors of the food!

By Laura M |

The manager (Carlos) stopped by our table to check on our experience. Love love love that they are paying attention to the details!

Great food/awesome service

By Laurie l |

#1 - Carlos is THE BEST server! He made recommendations that were spot on and took quick care of all our needs. #2 - We were a large party (15 including 6 children) and the staff was accommodating, the food was out quickly, and everything was DELICIOUS! Very large portions but good! I had the Center Piece with chicken and shrimp. Mmmm! #3 - THE VIEW! beautiful sunset!

Excellent food with a view

By BethintheSun |

Came here with our son and daughter in law to enjoy the view. It was a fabulous look out into the hills. The food was amazing. I had an avocado margarita which was delicious. I recommend this restaurant.

Great for special event

By roadlesstravld |

We celebrated a special event here in the Luna room, which had a great view out the windows. Staff very accommodating. Our group enjoyed the pollo aldaco's entre, and the sublime tres leches cake. We took the complimentary shuttle from the JW which was so nice and recommended if you have a large group.

Love the view from the patio!

By avis l |

We chose this location to entertain out-of-towners from Houston. Nice location for San Antonio flavor in a nice setting. Interesting cocktails, and good food. I prefer outside, because on a busy night the inside can be loud if you want relaxed conversation.

Good views and outdoor seating

By JayHTexas |

Been here a couple of times. A great place to sit outside and let your kids play on their playground. Wide variety of Mexican fare, with all of it being above average. Outside service was a little slow, as they apparently only had 2 servers outside that night.

Great food with beautiful views!

By BRENDA HUCKABEE |

The atmosphere and food is excellent. I have eaten quite a few Carne Asada Tacos and Aldacos are the BEST that I have eaten in San Antonio. The views on the patio of the city are beautiful and serene. Aldacos food, service and Margaritas are worth the experience!

Great service, good food

By SwtCaro93 |

I met my boss here for lunch on a Tuesday. The servers were very friendly and quick. I got the Soup, Enchilada Verde, and Rice. Overall it was pretty good. I chose Chicken Tortilla Soup, and while it was very good it wasn't quite what I was expecting. It was much more like a soup, with broth and large chicken pieces and vegetables, as well as large slices of avodado, than the traditional thicker soup that I expected. It was good, though. The enchilada and rice were average. Overall, a nice meal.

Fajita Special!

By ProfessorGreg |

We went on Labor Day and had the $17.95 Fajita Special. You get your choice of beef or chicken fajitas, flour tortillas, quacamole, sour cream, pico diego, rice, and choice of beans. Tip - ask to sit on the patio, we had a great view of the almost, full moon! Awesome job Aldaco's!

Beautiful patio dining

By Travelingadventures2 |

This is a nice restaurant to come to when you want to enjoy outdoor dining. They have a nice view of the Stone Oak area and are located on a hill. The food is good, but not great. It's a little pricey for the amount of food you get.

Great food, Unfriendly Waiter

I've eaten here before and had great food and friendly service but tonight, our waiter was very impersonal and not especially concerned with providing "service with a smile." We had to ask him for water, when he should have noticed that our glasses were empty. Perhaps he was having an off-night but if you're going to choose to be wait staff, then you need to have a good attitude about it. I hope that the next time I go to this lovely restaurant, that someone else waits on us. Another waiter did actually step in and help the waiter assigned to our table and he was very nice and friendly.

Great Margaritas

By junebugHouston_TX |

We found out about this restaurant while browsing through the "destinations San Antonio" magazine that was in our hotel room. We decided to give it a try since it was only a couple of minutes from our hotel, and we had already had a long day. The views at this restaurant were fantastic, I believe you could see the view from almost every table. The waitstaff were a bit overwhelmed, but Seve took good care of us. We tried the avocado Margarita, it was very good, very different feel than a traditional margarita. We got fajitas, which were good, Relleno De Cameron, which was very good, and Pescadito Careyes. The sauce on the fish was good, it's hard to get tiliapea wrong, although some of the fish was overcooked, overall it was great. Their mexican rice is fantastic. We will definitely try to go there on our next visit to San Antonio

I loved the Centerpiece -- best tamales ever

By surfinginflorida |

It was cold so we had to sit inside, but looked like a beautiful view. Good drinks and food. I had the centerpiece which was tomatoes, avocado and grilled squash and cheese sticks. My husband had Arrachera A La Brava and he was very happy with his dinner. We took tamales home with us for Christmas. Best tamales in San Antonio!

Great lunch spot

By TCU_2003 |

I ate here for lunch while in San Antonio for a business trip, and enjoyed it. The views were fabulous - what a great location! I had the beef lunch fajitas - large portions, and tasty. I also really liked the salsa, but forewarned, there tortilla chips are the large, thick ones. They tasted fine, but my personal preference is the thinner chips, so those were not my favorite. The service was also friendly and quick.

Over Rated IMHO

By Kelley M |

The gals at the hostess stand are great. The bartenders not so much if they saw you had a buzzer for a table. We were sat and waited 20+ minutes to be recognized even when calling out to waiter. Food was blah at best. Next night we tried Del Fuego's - waaaay fresher, more flavorful, better service better food options. Sometimes you can get so fancy with the food there is no flavor... that is what it seems happened at Aldaco's

Some unique flavors

By 96skb |

We had seen this restaurant reviewed on a TV show and decided it was worth a visit because it looked a little different that your typical Tex-Mex. The chips and salsa were definitely not the usual, and we were al big fans. The lunch menu value is outstanding. The brunch steak and eggs with grilled serano peppers was delicious. Great tortillas. Everything our group ate and drank was enjoyed. We would definitely return if in this area of San Antonio again.

Surprise Party

By goodnight1963 |

Great place for a party. Great views, great service, super tasty fajitas. We had approximately 50 people at a 50th birthday party. They treated us very well, the margaritas were good and the beer was cold. We had the fajita bar package and the food was all prepared perfectly and the service was the best. They took good care of us and made all of us feel welcome. We have been to the restaurant many times and will continue our routine of enjoying this San Antonio treasure. Great job Aldaco's.

The best Mexican Cuisine!

By Philip K |

I don't know , this the best Mexican cuisine i ever had! Absolutely nothing to complain. I still cannot forget the taste of Guacamole, I had there. I tried this at many other places, but here it was the best. It wont be fair without mentioning Carlos . What a great person, he picks up your likings so very fast and suggest you best of the dishes. Awesome guy!

Fine Atmosphere and Friendly Service

By Musician3523 |

This hilltop restaurant is a magical place to be on a clear night and the service is friendly and efficient. I opted for the grilled Tilapia this visit and chose the cilantro sauce which is usually a winner. Unfortunately, the fish was completely without any detectable seasoning prior to grilling. I am not afraid of salt, but if the chef is, a little lime or lemon juice would have helped. The salads were good and the salsa tasty, but even the cilantro sauce couldn't help that poor unseasoned fish enough to be satisfying. A diner should not have to request that food be seasoned prior to cooking.

Dominion location - very tasty

By Debra W |

New location and I the manager was nice enough to let me sample the avocado margarita before ordering... muy delicioso!! I had the enchiladas del mar with both sauces and my hubby had the tacos al pastor. The tacos were just okay and the enchiladas were good, especially with the lime cilantro sauce. The enchiladas were on the small side considering the $16 price tag. We will definitely be back for the avocado margaritas!!

Great Private Dining Room Experience

By Mohsman |

I ate here for a large birthday party-more than 30 people. Nevertheless the service was very good and the service as good as could be expected. The room was large and there was a fantastic view. The margaritas were very good. The food was excellent. The tortilla soup was the best I've ever had. Every item on my combination plate (El Exclusivo) was very good or excellent. I would absolutely go back.

Verg good overall

By Krbfo |

The venue is beautiful. Nice location. We were greeted promptly. Our server was very nice but “ not quite on top of her game”. Spilled a glass of water on me and forgot to bring my husband’s tea. I was actually surprised when we didn’t get comped for anything, even after I told them I was concerned about my brand new, pricey shoes that were soaked. Thank goodness another server helped our server. Atmosphere is nice but it is an echo chamber. They should carpet the walls to deaden the sound. We waited a little while for our food. But the FOOD WAS FABULOUS! Also very nice portions. We were very comforted to find a gluten free menu. Prickly Pear Margarita was very good So, all in all very good but not great.

My favorite!

By jaclyn13805 |

Get the Centerpiece! Great skinny margaritas and Bloody Marys too! My favorite Stone Oak restaurant! They have a great Brunch too!

Worst food ever

By DTaxMan |

Restaurant is located in a beautiful hill in the prestigious Stone Oak area of San Antonio, service was great but the food was horrible. The soup wasprimary hot water and the fish was burned; all you were able to taste was the burned part. Great place for drinks but not for dinner.

Horrible Top Shelf Margarita

By Thomas D |

My companion and I ordered 2 of The House Specialty margaritas, they tasted like they were mixed with dishwater. We complained to our server and he graciously advised the manager who took the drinks back. My Beef Chalupas were soggy, need scissors to cut them to eat, My companion had chicken nachos which were ok. Will not return, to many other good places for Mexican food.

Horrible staff

By jshb1 |

Staff's malevolent behavior tword my five and nine year old daughter's, was very distasteful. The staffs heedlessness and food experience made for a lousy experience. The manager and their staff's melancholy attitude, made for a lugubrious visit.

The Centerpiece!

By Cindy G |

The centerpiece is a delicious plate of food that includes grilled cheese, peppers, beautifully sliced avocadoes and more. This can be ordered as a vegetarian plate, or add in beef, chicken or shrimp. The centerpiece is a family favorite!

Meh

By monica_k840 |

Came here because of a recommendation that this food is authentic Mexican. Maybe it was an off day. The service was indifferent at best. No effort was made to accommodate food allergy. This food was most definitely tex mex.

Excellent local restaurant

By Diana B |

The service and food were outstanding. The margaritas were very good, chip and cueso were great, and dinners were outstanding.

Great service and the drinks are fantastic

By galonthego60 |

We don't usually go out of our way for a restaraunt but saw this on Tangie Patton show a year or so ago and decided to try it glad we did. Try the avocado margarita!!!

Great Drinks and Mexican food

By HappilyRetired |

Visiting family in San Antonio for the weekend and they took us to Aldaco's Mexican Cuisine for dinner. The drink menu selection was impressive. I had the Cucumber Martini which was really good and refreshing. I wanted to try the Prickly Pear Margarita but limited myself to one drink. Great choices on the menu and I settled for the Chilie Rellenos Al Cilantro and it was delicious. Everyone enjoyed their drinks and meals. The prices seemed reasonable. The waiter had two large parties and service was Ok. Would like to return and dine outside, on the patio, in the evening, to enjoy the view.

Best SA has to offer

By Robert S |

I've been here twice and have been impressed twice. I am hispanic and am fond of good mexican food. I am picky when it comes to mexican food and was very surprised to find this gem hidden in stone oak. I'll be bringing my family here the next time they come to visit. Also, I am picky about margaritas on the rocks, can't stand the tart, acidic, limey margaritas you get other places, not here, some of the best. Food and drinks deserve the highest rating for this place, it is not cheap but worth every penny.

Good view and great margaritas!

By Julie L |

The margaritas here are fantastic! I believe the strawberry margarita had fresh strawberries in it. And nothing beats the view!

OMG

By lar0967 |

Ate supper here on Saturday July 28, 2018. We sat in the patio outside and enjoyed a beautiful view. The food here is excellent. Everyone in our party of 6 thought the meal was delicious!!! From the Arrachea Marisol to the shrimp enchiladas.....the food was amazing. The prickly pear and mango margaritas are a must! What made the evening enjoyable and memorable was our waiter Jesus who had only been there 5 days!!! We had the best service! We will definitely be going back!!

Great food and drinks

By Ryan G |

Went looking for a place to eat after a long morning and ended up finding this place. We initially thought it was going to be an upscale restaurant which we were not dressed for (and we had our kids) but that was not the case after we checked the menu online. Good food and very good adult drinks. We sat outside and had a great view overlooking the San Antonio hills. Went back to our family's house and told them about the place. The fact they live 10 minutes away and had never tried it before blew us away. Based on our recommendation they said they would definitely have to try it.

Host

By A Torres |

Let me just start by saying, we love the food/drinks/servers/bartenders/ambiance of this restaurant. So much that my family eats here regularly. This review is strictly from our encounter with a specific host. We were told the wait would be 30-45 minutes, which is perfect because we can grab a drink and wait outside. After 45 minutes, we just checked by the host stand to see if our reservation was coming up soon... and we were told that we would have to wait an additional hour. At this point, we were confused and ready to just pick up fast food and go home. As we were discussing this as a family, we luckily got a text message saying our table was ready! Yay! Such good timing. We went up to the host stand to confirm this and was told we would still have to wait additionally cause the people before are still paying? My sister in law simply said “oh it’s because we just got a text saying the table was ready” and the host responded back to her saying “I know! I was the one who sent you that message.” Unnecessary. The tone and response, all of it, unnecessary. The other host saw this encounter and instantly took us to our table that was ready for us, so thank you to that host. I worked in customer service for 5 years... the costumer should never be talked down to (especially if attitude was never sent to the employee).. If we come back, it will strictly be because of our other great experiences at this restaurant. The next time we go back we will bring that host a stress ball.

Exquisite Dining Experience

By twofromtexas42 |

We took our out-of-town friends here and we were definitely were treated well. They ordered the prickley pear margarita. Not only did it look beautiful with a deep pink hue, but when they took their first sip, they commented how delicious it was. They enjoyed watching the guacamole salad being prepared table side and couldn't stop eating it because it was so fresh and delicious. Our waiter was very attentive and immediately responded to whatever it was we asked for. My husband and our guest ordered the seafood enchiladas and they both really enjoyed their meal. My friend ordered the fish tacos and was surprised to see them wrapped in aluminum foil, but she said they were probably served that way to keep them warm. I ordered the chicken enchiladas divorciadas and they were as delicious as I remembered. My friend wanted to eat a tortilla with honey, but they served her agave nectar instead and she loved it. They commented that this was like a restaurant you would normally find in Cancun. They were very pleased and so were we. My only negative comment is that my husband ordered the cerviche. I was underwhelmed by its presentation. It was served in a plain white bowl, with avacado, a wedge of lime, a small cap of extremely potent hot sauce and chips. I would have liked to have seen it served in a see through glass bowl or a transparent cocktail glass. My husband said it was very tasty, though. I definitely would recommend this restaurant to anyone wanting excellent service and excellent food and drinks. The margarita menu is quite interesting. The walls are painted interesting colors and there's a floating glass mosaic in the dining room. There is an outdoor patio with a view of city lights. The desserts looked good, but we opted not to have any.

Great expierence

By Jerry O |

Our second visit to this establishment, first time no so impressed, this time very impressed, on a scale of 1-10 would give them a 15., wife and I both had Fajita plates, big plates, my wife never eats that much, this was an exception. The service was great Cesar did a great job. All I can say is I have been in SA for 25 years, and this was the best meal I have had in a Mexican establishment.

Best Mexican food I've found since moving to Texas

By TravelingFriends2015 |

Our newly formed dine out group went to Aldaco's last night. To me the experience starts building with the salsa and chips. The chips were crispy thin and the salsa not too hot which I prefer. A few of us ordered the flautes which were delicious arriving with both sour cream and guacamole. Very filling....I was barely able to eat the 3rd one. Everyone in the group seemed to enjoy their meals. Yes, they were busy but so is any good restaurant. Our server was wonderful, and the food arrived hot. And as far as renovations, good for them to improve and enhance their restaurant. I will definitely return and will proudly take my out-of-state visitors there in the future.

Excellent!

Appetizer Pacific Shrimp Tamal EXCELLENT! along with generous portion of Ceviche & watermelon marguerita... out of this world for authentic South American taste!

Nice Surprise

By Kevin M |

Work near by decided to go out to lunch with wife so searched the area for something new. What a hidden gem don't tell anyone. Beautiful sunny day with great views from atop the hill country. Food was very good with nice lunch options. Service was outstanding never saw the bottom of my water glass. A true hidden gem in the Stone Oak area and not a chain.

Best Mexican food!!

This was by far the best mexican food I had in a while. My chicken quesadillas were fantastic and margaritas were great!! Great service and a lovely view!! Can't beat it!!

Great vantage point terrible food

By emilzola01 |

We went yesterday (9/21/16) for dinner to Aldaco's for the first time as a family (my wife was there before with her friend). We sat on the patio, the view from this vantage point of the surrounding area is gorgeous. All the sudden both I and my kids starting getting uncomfortable from stings in our feet. We then realized that we were seated next to a spout at the end of which they left a can full of rain water from a few days ago and was breeding mosquitos like crazy. Our feet and leg were devoured with mosquitos, they had a buffet from our blood before we even started our meal. Our sons ordered an enchilada dinner, me and my wife ordered the most expensive fajita dish on the menu the (by the pound deal) The enchilada dishes look good to the eyes, but to the nose and palate, nothing was there for those senses. Simply blend and tasteless. Our fajita was extremely disappointing. The overwhelming ingredient was onion. There was no near a pound of protein component of it, that we thought we were getting a pound of. There were exactly 4 strips of green pepper, no tomatoes, and that it. The dish lucked the aroma known to the fajita, even the pan was not hot the way the fajita pan usually is brought to the table sizzling. The tast of the meats was blend, the veggies lucked that roasted taste known to the fajita dish. It seems like they cook the whole thing in a pan over an electric stove and then poured it into the classic fajita pan to give it the look of an authentic fajita dish, but the aroma and the state were completely lucking. The fajita dish also came with a bowl of beans, and rice. Even the rice was tasteless, and the bowl of bean was unbeatable. We asked that the bowls of beans to be taken away, they did took them away, but they never offer a substitute. The bill was not a good reflexion neither of the quantity or the quality of the food. With that amount of money, we felt that we could have gotten a better deal elsewhere in stone oak, there is plenty of competition. I would not say that we will never go back there again, but it will take us months before we can convince ourselves to give Aldaco's another chance. Hopefully they will improve, the next time we return, the facility has a lot of potential, nether should capitalize on it.

Holy cow! Has the taco gringos and a mojito and talk about delicious! It's my new favorite taco. Place is very clean and great and friendly service!

Terrible service, cold food, unapologetic management. A true waste of a great location.

By rsm319 |

It wasn't crowded, our server was MIA, drinks took 30 minutes, food an hour, no apologies from the management. Only bad attitude.

Good location

By surfinbird81 |

Good location in Stone Oak with a beautiful outdoor patio overlooking the area. Food is good, but pricey for what you get. Nice place to enjoy a drink and have a meal.

Panoramic View, Mediocre Food

By teachy9 |

One cannot beat beat the beautiful hill country view at this aesthetically pleasing restaurant, and tonight our waitress, Hayley, was excellent. However, I generally feel that the food is not as tasty as it could be. The beans were bland and the rice could have been better seasoned. With all that this restaurant has got going for it, the food could really use some TLC and tweaking. They have a lot of competition in this city. Note: I have had excellent and very affordable lunches at this location.

Good Food, Great Patio View

By DMJ6545 |

Good Food, Good Drinks. Great service. Really nice view from the patio seating. Highly recommend this place. It’s tucked away behind some retail shops on the corner.

Worst Mexican Restaurant Ever

By briggott |

I ate here with a group on a business trip and this was hands-down the worst Mexican restaurant I've ever eaten at and that was the concensus of most of the people in our group. Food was flavorless. Salsa so hot we couldn't eat it and there were no milder options available. We ordered pitchers of margaritas and they were frozen and served in carafes so pouring was like trying to get ketchup out of a bottle until it plopped into the glass. Some people asked for margaritas on the rocks and they weren't given an option then provided with the "premium" margarita which of course was the most money. Neither of the individuals could drink the margaritas because they didn't like them and the waiter told them, "You WILL like them....don't drink them so fast...let the ice melt." This was also the instruction given when some food was unacceptable. There were no apologies, instead we were told we WOULD like the food. All around unbelievable experience...in a bad way!

Birthday Celebration Tastiness

By Elise C M |

Went here for dinner with friends and got the Cameron something Andreas. Bacon wrapped shrimp. Was awesome! Loved it. Our waiter did a great job without being intrusive so it was a great experience. The only reason it's not 5 stars is because when I used the restroom, it hadn't been cleaned recent and was messy.

Guacamole!

By cindymahn |

Order the guacamole. It is a must have here. And any of the margaritas you order you will love. Try a couple of different ones. I love the Bonita. Chicken enchiladas with verde sauce was quite tasty!

The best chicken enchiladas ever!

By Jon S |

My wife and I went to Aldaco's with my brother and sister in law. We had a great time. Food was great. Service was outstanding. Carlos was amazing and he made us some great margaritas. The highlight of the night for me was the chicken and poblano enchiladas. Outstanding. If I could give it six stars I would

Really good salsa and chile rellenos.

By orlandofoodlover18 |

Went hear with family. Great view on top of a hill. The salsa had great flavor. My family recommended the chile relllenos and it was so good. It wasn't fried like most places, it was baked which I thought was a cool difference. Worth a shot if you're in the area.

Good drinks

By Luis |

I love all the bar cocktails, food it's OK and service, location is awesome, the patio has one of the best evening views.

I Guess I Missed The Views

By Paul C |

I had dinner at Aldaco's - Stone Oak late on a Sunday evening. If I had read the reviews, I would have seen that half of the reviews talk about the views. But after sunset, nothing to see here! My server could not have been more pleasant and attentive. The food was well prepared and flavorful, but nothing special in my opinion. But then, the pricing is fair, so all in all, a decent Mexican restaurant. My appetizer was the Tamal De Camaron, a tamale with a very flavorful sauce and small shrimp spooned on top. A nice start to the evening. My appetizer was the Relleno de Camaron. I was told that the Chile Rellenos were a house specialty, so I gave it a try. The dish was fine, but there couldn't have been more than 3 or 4 small shrimp inside the chile. It was just okay. Overall, a nice evening. I just wish I had come earlier for the views.

Dominion - IH 10 Location

By Fred O |

We ate here after the new location had been open about three weeks. It's an attractive restaurant whose ambiance is totally ruined by being so noisy it's painful. Now for the food: much of it has been gringoized to the point of being bland. The borracho beans had no evidence of jalapeños at all. The ground beef and chicken in the chalupas were lacking any spice that my wife could detect. I had the basic cheese enchiladas, on the theory that they are a pretty good test of a Tex-Mex restaurant. They were ok, but the sauce was blah. For dessert, we had the sopapillas, which were the best thing we had all evening. Even though this location is very convenient for us, we'll probably not go rushing back. Pity.

Superior view with great meal

By Lonestar648 |

What a spectacular view, especially sitting outside. While we enjoyed the view, we enjoyed the fajita lunch and the enchiladas. Service was excellent by everyone. With the light breeze, the overhead cover shading the direct sun, we enjoyed our lunch outside, never feeling like it was getting warmer. We will return again for lunch and bring the family for dinner on the weekend.

Great Food - Spotty Service

By AustinTxTraveler2000 |

We frequent this restaurant on a regular basis and love the food. My favorite dish is the Enchiladas Divorciadas, with 2 sauces... tomatillo and ranchero sauce, while my wife prefers the lighter fish tacos or shrimp tacos. The friendliness of the service staff varies quite a bit. During the day, the servers are older and have been there quite a while which is a double edged sword. Some of them have their favorites, but do not treat newcomers nearly as well, and seem almost contemptuous of anglos who are not part of the "regular crowd." The evening staff is much more customer service oriented and works their fannies off to make everyone happy. Overall the food is great... but spotty service.

Friday night dinner

By hmcleod2018 |

I have been a loyal customer of this restaurant since they opened. However tonight has soured me on the restaurant. They are under going renovations. The wait was 40 minutes. The place was extremely loud. I purchased a beer from the make shift bar and was over charged. It was only .50 but add that up over 100 beers for other customers and ot adds up. My food arrived and it was cold. They tried to blame it on dressing but I have ordered this dish numerous times it doesn't come with dressing. Then ththey had the nerve to charge me for my meal. Sorry. No thanks

Noisy...but so worth it!

By CworthyTX |

Great food reasonably priced, accompanied by good service and a nice view. Lots of hard surfaces in this eatery, so it can get noisy when crowded. Weather permitting, the very nicely appointed patio is a good option. Bonus...the best chips in town ;-)

Great Food and Outdoor Seating

By RZTR |

The Relleno De Camaron was recommended to me and it was delicious! It wouldn't have been my first choice because of the poblano pepper but it wasn't too spicy at all. I got the suggested half chipotle and half cilantro sauce. The Tres Leches cake was to-die-for and enough to share! They did not take reservations and we were told that there was a 30min. wait but we were seated in about 15 min. We were seated on their outdoor patio, it was shaded in the evening and has large canopies set up with beautiful views! The service and atmosphere were wonderful, I would definitely recommend!

The staff was friendly but they seemed short handed. The chips were out of a bag and the tortillas were not that great. A fantastic avacado margarita. Pretty good place overall.

Somewhat bland for a Mexican joint

By ClarkJ55 |

Food was average and prices were high. We came here because they had Chile Rellano without breading, but the filling was bland. The side salad was great, good flavor. I would pass on coming back, too many other choices.

Great venue with wonderful views, underwhelming food and drinks.

By Brxrwn |

Visited Aldaco's today with my wife around 3;00 for a late lunch. I started with a Pacifico michelada, michelada mix was very watery with little flavor. Seemed to be watered down bloody mary mix for $7.00. My wife ordered a Modelo Especial that was on tap and it was served in a cold glass. She drank about a third of the glass before noticing a gnat or ?? floating on top. Pointed the bug out to the waitress and she apologized and took it away. We asked the waitress for the house margarita and it was pretty good and bug free! Our waitress brought out a small bowl of chips and a dark salsa. Salsa was good, chips were definitely not made in house. Same plain generic chip found at many restaurants that don't make them in house. Not terrible just not at all what I would expect from what I thought Aldaco's was, an upscale restaurant serving exceptional Mexican cuisine. Next we ordered the Camarones San Andres which was described as "Grilled shrimp wrapped in smoked zesty bacon covered in our secret sauce". Shrimp were bacon wrapped and in my opinion more fried than grilled. Bacon was crispy. Maybe they were just VERY grilled??? Sauce was o.k. and at least hydrated the shrimp a little. The plate came with rice and burracho beans. Burracho beans were excellent with fresh cilantro on top. Rice was obviously from much earlier in the day, dry and clumpy, definitely not fresh. Also included was a scoop of guacamole, very meh, and most surprising was the pico de gallo that had tomatoes and onions that were almost the same color. Looked like it was at least a couple of days old or so. At this point we decided to just wrap up the meal and asked for the check. When the waitress brought the check, the Modelo that had a side of gnat was on the tab. I mean we didn't put the gnat in the beer, we weren't dining outside where you might understand that happening but the waitress was charging us the $6.00 for the beer that was 2/3 full. I wish the waitress would have told us that they were going to charge us for the beer because for $6.00, I wouldn't let my wife drink it but I might have asked for a teaspoon or something to fish it out with and drank it myself. O.k. probably not but would have liked to have had the option... The $6.00 Modelo isn't going to make or break me but was the icing on the cake in making my decision as to whether or not try Aldaco's again. It shouldn't be this way but truth be told, very few restaurants do a good job serving fresh food around 3:00 - 4:00 and unfortunately, Aldaco's is exactly that type of restaurant. Had seen Aldaco's on Good Taste with Tanji and didn't experience what we viewed and compelled us to give it a try. I guess "shock" describes my sentiments even more than disappointed. Just didn't expect any of what we experienced, except the excellent burracho beans!

Pretty good, but clearly not outstanding

By KingofThreePutts |

With the exception of the tortilla soup (which is excellent), this is pretty much standard Tex-Mex fare. Nothing bad, but nothing all that great. Salsa was disappointing -- very smoky, but bland and not at all hot. However, I must say that my co-worker thought that the food was outstanding. Service was fine. I am taking the mean of the two experiences, and giving Aldaco's a "good",

Fantastic!

By Jeff K |

We ate here while in town for a conference. The view from the patio was gorgeous. Food was incredible. I recommend "The Centerpiece" which is plate full of avocado, meat, tomatoes, grilled vegetables and queso panela. In a town full of authentic Mexican food, this place stands out.

Discorteous waiter and so-so food

By J G |

Food is OK, nothing extraordinary tough. This was my first and last time here. One of the waiters, a mexican guy, was rude, impolite, bad mannered and discourteous. I reported this immediately to a manager and they substituted this piece of trash with a more capable person, however, I wouldn't ever go again. I DON'T recommend it to anybody. There are LOTS of better restaurants with much more better service. I'd like to repeat: DON"T go. P.S. Limes were dry.. uggghh!

Great dinner !

By Nice P |

Went there many times and always had a good dinner. This time was extraordinary, the steak and shrimp plate was amazing !!! Service always perfect and very good prices for what you get. You can not go wrong with Aldaco's. Seat outside to enjoy a nice view of Stone Oak, which is rare for a restaurant in San Antonio. We will come back soon. Thank you!

So disappointed

By TravelingMomma30 |

Food was ok, service was SOOOO terrible! Our waiter (Ruben) was nonexistent! We had to get up FOUR times to find someone to help us! The manager apologized (several times) and offered a free dessert, but the manager was dealing with another table with the same exact issue! Shouldn't this be a BIG sign that Ruben needs to go? We won't be back... level of concern for guests was very minimal! Very disappointing.

I was in town for a conference and wanted a break from the hotel food so this place was a perfect choice. Great menu with a lot of choices for whatever you want. The shrimp enchilladas were excellent as was the table side guacamole. Nice looking patio if the weather is good. Service was great.

Steady decline in quality and service!

By Kmsmith0808 |

The quality of the food and presentation at Aldacos has been steadily going down hill over the past year. I have been a regular for the past 7 years often times taking my mobile office to work outside on their beautiful patio during the day. In the past, Aldacos has always been my choice to bring out of town guests for dinner so that they could experience great Mexican cuisine in a beautiful location. The past 5 times I have been there over the past 10 months I can honestly say it is alarming how poor the service has been not to mention the significantly smaller food portions that arrived bland and cold. Their prices are on the higher end which I do not mind paying if the food and service are in line; unfortunately this is no longer the case. I truly hope that the owner will turn her attention back to the Stone Oak Aldacos to revive it quickly. In the meantime, I will start to seek out another quality Mexican restaurant in the area to take its place.

Surprise Birthday

Attended a surprise birthday for a long time friend. About 30 people were in attendance and the party was catered in one of the party rooms. The food was great and service excellent.

A Warm,Sunny South Texas Winter Day

By carolyn s |

Our friends and we decided to enjoy a light lunch after a movie yesterday. We chose Aldaco's at Stone Oak in San Antonio. We all love Mexican food, and since we think that we have the best in the world here in San Antonio, we had lots of places to choose from. It has been some time since our last visit here, so we opted to enjoy the beautiful warm and sunshiny day for an outdoor lunch on the patio. We were greeted as we walked in, immediately seated where we requested, and promptly waited on by our server. The menu is extensive and quite affordable. Everyone was happy with their selections, and we promised to return again and often.

Relaxing view, good food and a must try tres leches

By elynoremarie |

Has a great view, if the weather is nice, try to get outside seating. Its also in a nice neighborhood. The prices are reasonable plus parking is not an issue. The staff are very friendly and professional. Cant go wrong with anything in their menu, there was 5 in our group and we ordered different food and all of us ended up liking what we had (gringo taco, guac azteca, tacos delmar, fajitas - chicken and beef). If you like Lupe tortilla, I recommend this place.

Very tasty quesadillas.

By Bertski33 |

Went for lunch and had a lovely time. Views were great but too hot to sit outside. Will return in the late fall for outside seating. Quesadillas were very different from what I am use to but delicious. More like a roasted fajita. When they say two they mean two taco like quesadillas. price was a little high for lunch but maybe because we had guacamole made at our table.

Nice, leisurely lunch on the patio

By Magan Y |

Went to Aldaco's on a beautiful day -- needed a place with outdoor dining as the day was too beautiful to waste inside. Enjoyed mixed fajitas and tacos al pastor in the shade with a beautiful view. The restaurant is a step up for the normal Tex-Mex.

Service excellence

By Toothandbrain |

A former local recommended Aldaco's while I was in San Antonio for a conference, staying at the J.W. Marriott. I was traveling alone. Since it was Friday, I called ahead to make sure that a shuttle would make a trip for a party of one, and to ask if I needed a reservation. The hostess on the phone was very friendly and explained that they'd be happy to pick me up, and that even though they were busy, I'd probably be fine sitting at the bar. That evening at 5:30, the free shuttle was there to pick me up as promised. The driver, John, was quite friendly and gave me the scoop on San Antonio. When I arrived at the restaurant, the evening hostess, who was different than the one I had spoken to on the phone, knew I was coming and addressed me by name. Nice touch! I ate at the bar, and all staff was friendly and helpful. I had the special, which was a chicken breast stuffed with poblano and cheese - excellent. The popular margarita was good as well. Since it was Happy Hour, I indulged in a couple of $1 hard tacos, which were also good. The menu advertised tacos pastor, which are pork, but the waitress offered chicken and beef. I had one of each, and still well worth a dollar. The view of the Texas hills is remarkable, and the patio was very popular. A light rain started while I was there, but the outside guests didn't flinch. After dinner, I walked around a little and took some pictures of the beautiful Mormon temple next door. Then, John was ready to take me back to the hotel, again giving me more service than I'd expect for a single traveler. I made it home by 9 and in bed with sweet Southwestern dreams.

Good food, like their salsa, service is spotty

By Carla F |

We enjoy dining at Aldaco's. Their food is good and it's consistent. During nice weather (not too hot or not too cold), it's really nice to sit outside (especially as the sun is starting to go down). The drinks are usually delicious and we enjoy their salsa. I noticed that the service is inconsistent - sometimes we're waiting for drinks, or to order or our food, or the check. However, the other day, we decided to order the food to go. We called in the order with one of the entrees being shrimp tacos. We checked the order when we got to the car and the tacos were filled with fish and not shrimp. When we brought it back into the restaurant, the server/hostess kept saying that 'no, you have shrimp tacos'. Not until one of us took the fish out of the taco and showed her and stated that 'no, a shrimp would not crumble like this' did she take it back. Before that, she or the chef kept insisting that we got the shrimp tacos. So... all I can say is, we keep going back for the food, but the service needs to be improved.

Delicious every time.......

By Christine F |

Aldaco's is the BEST mexican food I have ever had. All the dishes are so good it's super hard to decide. I really like the fajitas.....they are so tender and tasty served sizzling hot! The chile relleno al cilantro is one of my favorites. The flautas are stuffed with chicken breast and delicious. I am a very picky eater and I enjoy the freshness and the quality of the food. The stuffed jalapenos and the nachos are the best I have ever had. Also if you just want salad.....the salad is to die for! When I can't decide and want to try it all I get the Exclusivo (can't resist the enchiladas)! My son LOVES the soup and my mother-in-law loves the avocado Margarita!

Beautiful location!

By GretaPiggy |

Beautiful location! We shared the parriada mixta among our party and some appetizers. I highly recommend the avocado margarita. The views are beautiful, there’s outdoor seating as well. Service was a bit slow, but we weren’t in a rush.

Great Mexican food north of the Riverwalk

By TomWillTravel |

If you want to get away from the hubbub of the Riverwalk, take a drive 15 miles north to the Hill Country and look up Aldaco's Mexican Cuisine. Based on other reviews, we took a chance and loved what we found. It's Mexican cuisine, to be sure, with all the standard ingredients of good Mexican food but the twist is in the way they put those ingredients together. This is a family owned restaurant and many of the entrees come from family favorites, passed along over time. If you're lucky you'll be waited on by Carlo's whose low-key sense of humor and familiarity with the menu will guide you to something very special. As if fine food and drink weren't enough, ask for a seat outside and enjoy a lovely view of the Texas hills with your meal.

Excellent food, service, drinks and views!

We took the shuttle service from the JW Marriott. It was driven by the owner, and hostess was holding the door open when we arrived. We had a great rocks margarita, wonderful beef fajita and puffy taco, salsa and overall food excellent.

Gourmet Mexican Food

By Texans112 |

We wanted some great Mexican food on our visit to the San Antonio area. The views from the outside patios and along the windows inside are wonderful. The thick chips and salsa were great. I had the "centerpiece" with chicken. Not to be missed! Probably one of the most unique Mexican dishes I've ever had. Felt like a more upscale restaurant.

Very marginal

By Tami S |

View outside is nice. Tried 4 dishes and they were extremely marginal. Can't recommend eating here: it's not worth the price tag. Sadly, two stars is generous.

Disappointed

By radmom2016 |

The food was bland and boring. I had the worst chili rellenos that I have ever had. They were not crisp nor did they had any type of seasoning. One of our children had a quesadilla which had the thickest tortilla we had ever seen. My husband's refried beans were not tasty and I had a bowl of beans & was not asked if I would prefer refried. The prices were way to high for what we received.

The best Mexican Restaurant in a Stone Oak

By BLOODYMARY4MEPLEASE |

Excellent food (selection and quality). Great patio view too; Chips and roasted garlic salsa is possibly the best in the city; Staff provides great service; The owner, Blanca Aldaco, is usually on-site, greeting the customers and making sure that everyone has a great dining experience; Bar service is great... They make "World Class" Margaritas and Bloody Mary's; Like La Fonda, Mi Tierra, Los Barrios, Casa Rio and Jacala, Aldaco's is a great "destination" Mexican restaurant. It is definitely worth driving a few extra miles to the far Northside of town for the experience. Reasonably priced too! Enjoy!

Best tex-mex I've had in a while

By Matthew H |

Overlooked because it's stuck in an out-of-the-way, difficult to reach far corner of the city, and also a little bit of an intimidating atmosphere for a casual dining experience. But they had the best shrimp fajitas I've had in a while, generous portions, well cooked and seasoned, and friendly, attentive service. Only quibbles are minor: Their tasteless rice needs some serious work. And how about not stuffing everything on to a single plate - the cold items (lettuce, cheese, sour cream, guacamole) don't need to be added to the same scalding-hot plate as the fajitas.

Average and bad service

By Jasminefairfax |

Ate here yesterday with some of my neighborhood ladies group. (A party of 7) I ordered the chicken enchiladas, it was OK - had no flavor. Chuy's chain is much better! Definitely pricey for what you get. I also ordered wine and it was $8.00 a glass-that to me was a rip off and the wine was not even that good. Our waiter brought out the checks before we were finished eating. Once the food was served he never came back to the table to check on us to see if we needed anything else. Not a good thing at all. I also used the restroom before I left and they have this huge hook inside the bathroom stall that sticks out quite a bit and I hit my arm on it -leaving me with a bruise and pain. Would not recommend - better off going to chain like Chuy's -will not go back.

Excellent view, warm service, average food

By shochuandwhiskey |

Came here for late breakfast while visiting friends in town. I grew up in the area but Aldaco's didn't exist then. The atmosphere is lovely for an event or a casual catch up with friends and the servers were all super attentive and friendly. The food was average - decent for Tex-Mex but not particularly "Mexican". Had shrimp tacos and chilaquiles with puntos de puerco. Both were tasty but the chilaquiles could have done with much more corn chips and less egg and cheese.

Excellent food and scenes

By geolil69 |

The food is excellent and the scenery from outside patio is incredible. Luv this restaurant. Whether you're going for lunch or dinner it's a perfect place to go with family or friends.

Oh hell yeah

By lalalala41 |

Waltzed in here & was seated immediately. I ordered the queso . The chips were warm & crispy . The queso was AWESOME. It was creamy , cheesy & tasted like heaven . I ordered 4 tacos al carte ( I was hungry ok 😋). I had 2 bean & cheese tacos , a puffy taco with picadillo and a crispy taco with picadillo. Everything was fresh , hot and authentic. My waitress was awesome . She was sweet , quick & informative. The restaurant was extremely clean & the staff couldn’t of been nicer . I’ll be back

always, always, ALWAYS stop here for dinner

By tncusoon |

Living in Nashville, San Antonio is one of my wife and I's two favorite long weekend escapes. (Quebec City is the other). Whenever Southwest has an airfare to SA, we hop on it and stay at the JW Marriott hill country resort. This restaurant is very close to there, north of the city. It is excellent. Not your traditional typical Mexican restaurant, but some different dishes, interesting takes on traditional favorites. Great people. truly enjoy this place EVERY time we are in SA. Little difficult to find the first time, but don't give up, keep going, and you will get there.

Some of the best shrimp tacos in town

By CocoKim |

Can't help but brag on the excellent service and shrimp tacos Aldacos provides. I've loved ever visit. I sometimes venture to other Mexican restaurants so that I don't go too often but I am usually disappointed I'm not at Aldacos. I highly recommend it.

2nd visit no improvement

By Gwinginit |

It is a shame that a good restaurant cant go into that location fantastic view. lousy food and service. Extremely noisy, I ordered crispy tacos with fajita meat and got a flavorless bit of cheap hamburger. I ordered onions specifically and didn't get them. I paid a high price and the waitress didn't mention that they had the same tacos in the bar for a dollar. At least they didn't accuse me of stealing the top to the tobacco bottle this time. I guess that is some improvement. Lousy once shame on you, lousy twice shame on me. Don't think I will try it again.

Good eats

I enjoyed this place, the setting was nice, the food was great and we had a really good server. Our group was picked up by the shuttle from the restaurant and taken to and from the establishment

Just so-so

By Betty S |

We sat outside and the view was overlooking all the houses around the Stone Oak area. When I think of a "place with a view" I think of nature, but here its pretty much a view of the rooftops and buildings. We sat outside and waited almost 10 minutes to even have a waiter approach our table. He seemed completely uninterested in working. Service overall was very slow and they were not very busy. Food was pretty bland, definitely would not order food here again. Might go back for a cocktail in the evening to check out the view at night.

Very nice meal

By Bob_Brandt |

An excellent Mexican meal with great service and a nice view. The house margaritas were nice as well. The good was very good and reasonably priced.

Beautiful outside seating overlooks hills of San Antonio. Excellent Food.

By Tracy S |

Exceptional food and wonderful view when seated in the outside patio. Highest elevation in San Antonio. Delicious sauces and chips. They have quite a few nice gluten free menu items also. Inside is a bit on the noisy side, but nice!

Best Mexican restaurant in San Antonio

By Beverly P |

We visited Aldaco’s while visiting in San Antonio. The device was outstanding and the food was fabulous. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Great food, beautiful view and wonderful staff!

By Zsadj |

I attended a wedding there and it was so beautiful. I had never heard of this restaurant. The atmosphere for the wedding was perfect. The staff was really wonderful, great service and the food was really good...sizzling fajitas , the chips and dip and great cocktails. I cannot say anything negative about this place. I would love to go back there and I would also like to have a special occasion event there. The place was cozy but spacious enough to not feel crowded. The view of the valley and hills near San Antonio makes this a very romantic setting but great for family events .
