this was an ok meal. The gelato was great. The best dish was the fettuccini alfredo. Delicious. The pizza was ok. Crust a bit thick for me. Flavor ok. We had the calamari with zucchini. Was greasy. Also 1/2 the calamari was tentacles. the few zucchini strips were soggy. They need to flash fry this. The campania brushetta was flavorful. Then only problem is that there was a lot of mozzarella and tomatoes packed on to 2 slices of bread. Definitely needed 4 slices of bread.I got a panzella salad. A real panzella salad has no lettuce , homemade croutons and chunks of good cheese and a vinegar dressing. This was a salad with a tasteless dressing and store bought croutons. The desserts are great. I would go back again to try other pastas and have room for dessert.

We visited the other location, on Market St, but it doesn’t show up when I search so I’ll review it here. We couldn’t get a reservation anywhere and stumbled on Alice Pizza, and we were so glad we did! We got a Marguerite pizza which was so good and plentiful for the 3 of us. We also tried their gelato and chocolate mousse, and those were delicious. We’ll definitely go again on our next visit to Philly.

Alice is well-known for its Roman-style Pizza. The eatery is attractive. Pizza looks nice, tastes wonderful and comes with many choices. Young waitstaff behind the counter provide good service -- no long wait with our takeaway orders.

Having been to an outlet of Alice in Rome, I was excited to try this one in Philly. It was on the pricier side as expected but the quality is very very good. Many great varieties. To top it off, their ice cream is very good. Wish I lived in Philly so I could come often!

Quaint eatery with wonderful pizza and attentive waitress. Personal pizza is large enough for two! You can buy pizza by the slice as well. The desserts looked good but too full to partake.

My husband and I ate here before a show. Will definitely be back and try a pizza next time. We had a salad and a meat and cheese tray. For dessert the gelato was so creamy and flavorful!

I found this pizzeria by reading the positive reviews on Google and I must say that it deserves them all. The pizza by the slice is really excellent (as an Italian after several weeks in America I really missed it), with a crunchy base and excellent and abundant toppings. There are different flavors all really inviting. The ice cream is really delicious. And I must say that the espresso is not bad either, with excellent "foam", just a little less dense than our Italian espresso... but the taste is really good. The quality/price ratio is also excellent for the place. You order at the counter, you can take it away or you can eat inside at various tables. There is also a more secluded area with table service but I haven't experienced it myself. Truly a pleasant discovery. Well done... keep it up!

If you like authentic Roman pizza, then you know this is the best in Philly! I was overjoyed when I discovered Alice back in 2017. It is just as good as the pizza I had in Rome. Words can't express how good the Philly Special is. Please never take it off the menu!!!

I can't believe we just discovered this gem! We sat outside on a cold but sunny Sunday with a heat lamp and enjoyed a couple of pizzas. The carbonara was mouthwatering and the sausage & broccoli was delicious also. We were unable to finish the personal pizza so we got a couple of boxes and enjoyed the rest later. Apart from the delicious food, Chris waited on us and he was very attentive and friendly! Highly recommend and can't wait to go back!! Hopefully we'll leave room for some of their delicious-looking desserts next time!

I am obsessed!! Love their pizza! I think i heard from a friend the name of this restaurant but i more less happened upon it going thru yelp.. tried it in early april and think since this is mid may ive ordered one a week! I just love it.. its kind pizza i love a old world type square pie that you remember grandma & aunts make or what you’d imagine having in italy! No its not your typical round flat cheese or even Neapolitan pie its spicy esp the diavola or rossa or marinara w/anchovies i have not yet even tried the white pies that look to die for as well as the pasta dishes & desserts! I really like to one day drop by so i can try the various kinds by slice!!’ Price for a pie (1/2 sheet) pricier than our usual mom pop corner pizza parlors but this is definitely a step above in quality & taste .. might not be everyone fav type pizza but this place is heaven to my taste .. delicious!

his is a great Roma style pizza in Philadelphia. Reminded us of a similar and great pizza joint in Rome - Pinsere (Alice - pronounced Alay che - is originally from Rome!). Pizza is sold by the ounce and they have a number of choices - including classic like tomato pie, we also ordered a number of other choices - diavola, salsiccia e funghi, pachino e bufala and funghi e quattro... So, here is the review - anything with either fresh tomatoes and/or sauce is the bomb... Both the tomato pie & the diavola are just superb. Really fresh tasting and the crust - soft but crunchy - can hold up with the toppings. For anything white, really rich and tasty - could be a bit too rich - especially for the four cheeses. Regardless, if you want to taste a number of really well made pizza with different toppings, this is the place. Our entire order came to less than $ 30!

Pizza is a-m-a-z-i-n-g!!! We ate at the counter. Could see those great authentic Italian desserts..but didn't partake. Gelato was as good as it could be--

It was a great place to eat with family I went there and everyone attended us like family. The pizza was delightful and the gelato really great. Our waiter and the employees speak Spanish.

You can buy pizza by the weight- or by tray or half tray. I had tomato pizza and a larger piece of egg plant pizza. The tomato pizza was aboslutely outstanding and the egg plant pizza was very good. And the pistachio gelato was very smooth, very rich and very authentic in taste. The food here reminded of my dining experience in florence Italy. The prices were very reasonable, the service impersonal. that lost this place an excellent rating otherwise.

Came here for a quick pre-show dinner. There is a table service and a counter service. We chose the latter for speed and had two very good salads, which we able (encouraged even) to customize, plus two Italian beers. After the show we came back for gelato - very good. Not the best, but still pretty good. Friendly staff and the pizza was a hit with many customers - looks great (but not for me!)

We were staying in a hotel around the corner and asked the staff for suggestions. They mentioned several places around the corner. We surveyed the area and decided on Alice. They have take-out and dine-in. We dined in and had a wonderful dinner with dessert. The food and service were excellent. Definitely worth a visit.

Ive been here a few times and love how you can order by weight and get a decent amount of pizza at a low price... My only complaint is that I like a heartier pizza with a thick crust and the crust here is light

Located just across from the Academy of Music, this restaurant is a true gem, a terrific find. They had an arugula salad to die for. Their bean and escarole soup was hearty and yummy, the chianti was nice, and oh, the pizza. We have never had one to compare. Authentic Roman pizza with a perfect crust and so delicious. When in Philly again, we will definitely return. Thinking about it is making me hungry.

My sister and I ate at Alice’s. We absolutely loved the pizza. I had the Funghi e Quattro Formaggi and my sister had the Philly special. Both delicious. One of the best I have ever had, including trips to Italy. We should have split one personal pizza. We had no idea how big it would be. But we were happy to have left overs. I would have rated the restaurant five stars if I had left after the pizza, but we bought a variety of their tiny cookies on the way out. They were dry - I threw them out on the walk home. I would definitely recommend this place but skip the cookies.

I love the pizza and gelato at Alice's. Unfortunately the pastries trail behind... I visited three times in a row to find that the individual cakes are not fresh, often dry and close to being stale... This would not do in Italy, but the owner seems convinced that it is good enough for Philadelphian. Additionally, the place is losing its "Italian-ness". Awful and loud American music! I no longer feel that I am stepping into an authentic café or pizzeria. I miss the Italian songs of the original opening...

To be honest I had planned to go somewhere else to get some good italian pizza, but the place i had chosen was closed so i just looked for something italian by where i was staying. I couldn't have been happier and more satisfied after eating here. Their pizza (focaccia i would say) was so good, authentic, I was craving a very typical italian pizza with potatoes and rosemary and they had it... it was soo good, and I did eat it all by myself but it's a two people portion. The owner was working at the bar so we spoke italian and then offered me some limoncello, very good, and also some of their gelato... I wish i was in philly rn. The owner was really nice to everyone, but in general the staff was really nice, I felt like I was at home in italy!

We found this gem accidentally. It was late and it was near our hotel. We didn't have a reservation, but the manager went above and beyond to find a table for our family. When you walk into the restaurant, the first thing you see is the pastry case filled with row upon row of Italian delicacies and vats of gelato (all the colors and flavors in the rainbow). If that didn't make you hungry, then the aroma of their delicious pizza and pasta will seal the deal. Alice has a cool vibe, great ambience, but not so cool you feel out of place with a family in tow. Fun cocktail menu and a great assortment of Italian wines. Our pasta dishes and pizza were soo delicious. The manager was also our server and he was excellent at providing just the right amount of attention. We could not leave without having dessert (and we were stuffed). Tiramisu -- AMAZING! Gelatos were wow, wow, wow. The owner of Alice is a famous gelato maker in Italy. Never have I ever had such smooth gelato - like buttah as they say. The spumoni flavor was sublime. As was the strawberry. Not a cheap place, but if you are looking for a nice restaurant for a romantic dinner or fun meal with a family, this is the place. We would love to eat here again!

Alice's became a favorite eating spot for me, and I had been there many times. However, I and my two friends, one celebraating a birthday, visited the restaurant for lunch, and I and one of the other friends, asked if a dish could be halved for lunch as the usual portion was too large. I had ordered this dish in its usual form many times. The manager complied, and the waitress noted that the price would be halved for both of us.. The second friend ordered her dish with the usual size. When the bill came, instead of splitting the $23,00 dish in half, each portion was charged $18.00. Inquiring about this to the manager led nowhere.

Excellent! Gnocchi to die for. Excellent broccoli rabe. Delicious salad. Ok service. Great gelato! Music a little loud.

My daughter and I went after seeing the musical WICKED because I’d been to Alice’s with a friend of mine after seeing the Philadelphia Orchestra at the Kimmel Center and we had some good food and a good time. Not this time. It was horrible. I am 73 with a left leg repair after damage from being hit by a car and even though there were maybe three people in the whole place the main seating area was closed. I had to sit painfully at the high bar type stools by the window. I wanted to eat but apparently the staff did not want us to so we ordered coffee. We kept saying we wanted to drink our coffee there - the cashier kept telling us “No you want it to go.” Everyone behind the counter were surly and just plain horrible. So if you are coming from shows at the Kimmel or Academy of Music AND are a senior THIS IS NOT THE PLACE!

This review for their Gelato only as that was what we stopped here for. I tried the two different flavor of gelato and my husband tried one flavor of their ice cream selection. They all were terrible; we could not even finish them. It tastes like medicine and a lot of artificial flavors. Was waste of money.

Stopped here for a quick bite in between sightseeing. No wait. Really good pizza, excellent crust. Good gelato. The hostess/waitstaff seemed a little disorganized but nice enough.

Stopped in here for a piece of pizza and ended up getting three! The place was almost as good as being in Italy. Thin crust and crispy. Cheese mushrooms and toppings just made it that much better. The staff was also super pleasant n friendly. Didn’t try the desserts so cant review them but would give them a try when I return. Wish they were where I live!

5 stars. We were lucky enough to Stumble into this place on day of eagles parade. Was mobbed like everywhere else. But they got us in, served delic drinks and yummy food fast!!! Can’t wait to go back

Alice is a restaurant my husband and I visited in Rome, Italy. We were delighted when we came upon Alice at 235 South 15th Street, Philadelphia during a walk in this city. We were curious to see if it was like the one in Rome, and therefore we entered to find that it was! Water was served in bottles at the tables. Pizzas on display were cut into any sizes the customers specified. There was a section of the counter dedicated to Italian ice cream Gelato, many flavors and lovely colors. You can eat inside or outside where there are tables. Alice is lovely!

Gelato is fantastic! We stopped by after the orchestra, it's just around the corner - go for it! But there's more to Alice - you have to go and see for yourself!

Great gelato. We sat outside and thoroughly enjoyed our margarita pizza( extra garlic) & spaghetti carbonara.House red a little expensive at $9 but v nice. Waiters were super. Would definitely visit again.

The location in the lobby of the SEPTA building is crazy crowded at lunchtime. Long line. I sampled two of the amazing offerings in the case. So delicious!

Welcoming, bustling clean environment. Swift responsive service. The food is attractively presented, in generous portions, and is delicious. Full range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages at reasonable prices.

Spent 47 years of my life in Philadelphia. Moved south 7 plus years ago. Last week was in the city for a quick trip. Airbnb on Locust. Friend that used to work at the Westbury recommended this place. Had lunch there on the pizza side, which was great service and pizza pie. Went to dinner, and we ended up back at Alice for drinks. Shane was excellent bartender. Great location Fun spot

This is one that worth a side trip! Food and service were excellent. Well-priced. Looks like a pizza parlor "by the slice" from the street; but check out the dining room in the back! Couldn't be cleaner, too!

We discovered this restaurant on a previous trip to Philadelphia and went back this evening. They had a 4-course menu for $37.50 per person - we were again very happy. For us, having been in Italy more than once, the food tastes not only delicious but authentic, and everything seems very fresh. It's a little crowded at times but even that wasn't a problem. Service was attentive.

My wife and I just had dinner there - everything was delicious. She had an arugula salad and I had a Ceasar - both came with shaved parmesan cheese, both were great. Our entrees were wonderful, too - the "pizza" is nothing like American pizza. I had the Crostino, with ham and mozzarella. With my wife's glass of wine, my iced tea, two salads, two entrees, a cappuccino and a dessert, the bill was $84 without a tip. We left $100 including the tip.

My wife and I passed this place a few times and admired the gorgeous desserts in the window. So we finally stopped for dessert. We were taken by patrons speaking Italian, so thought the food might be authentic. It was pretty busy, so we decided to take our items back to our hotel just 3 minutes away. The sfogliatelle was gorgeous. The server suggested having it warmed up which was a great idea. While it was fragrant, the flavors were so subtle, all I could notice was the filo-like texture. The tiramisu was also gorgeous but the flavor was just OK. I would like to go back and have a formal meal there, but may bypass dessert.

My husband and I stopped by after attending an afternoon concert. This place is great for a quick meal: it serves alcoholic beverages, Italian food (including pizza), gelato, and Italian pastries. Service was prompt and the food was good. We will make it a regular stop when we go to Center City for a concert!

Located a stones throw from the Kimmel Center, the Academy of Music and the Broad Street theatres, Alice is a great moderately priced venue serving delicious food perfect for pre-theatre dining. Our Caesar salad was delicious with slices of Parmesan & handmade croutons covered lightly with a tangy dressing. The portion was large enough to be shared by 2 as an appetizer or eaten as an entree. My husband loved his lemony chicken piccata entree and I enjoyed a white pizza with potatoes. Ingredients were fresh & the dough on the pizza was excellent. With alcohol, tax and tip figure about $40-50 per person. Light eaters who share apps and a pizza could spend less. Looking forward to returning and trying more items.

We discovered this restaurant last fall when we were in Philly and have gone back several times. Everything we've tried has been great. Every dish we've had was seasoned perfectly, flavors were very satisfying flavors, and the presentation was very nice. They have good pasta dishes and great pizza too. And the gelato selection is wonderful too. You can't go wrong with this place.

Philadelphia is well known for its many Italian restaurants and its Italian Market, so standards are justifiably high. Alice’s met that standard. On its face it looks like a sit-down pizza restaurant, but there’s much more. In addition to pizza, they offer a full suite of other Italian dishes, and its dessert options are enough to be its own restaurant. And the food was great. I had the chicken piccata which was melt in your mouth good and a pizza that took a while but was worth the wait. The place was packed, not always a good thing in the Covid era, but is a sign of its popularity. We called ahead and were able to be seated ahead of the crowd, and the service was prompt and efficient. I’d go there again the next time I’m in Philly.

The pizza here is not your ordinary triangle slice. At Alice, you order it by the size you'd like (weight) and can pick more than one style. I tried the Diavolo and loved it. Perfect portion too. I have also tried their gelato for the first time. OMG Where has this been my whole life? First one was Mango and my 2nd was the Rum Raisin. Both so very good. Before you decide to purchase, you can sample all of the flavors. You will not be disappointed.

We were not in the mood to sit in a restaurant to eat so we grabbed a few slices of pizza and were delighted by their quality. Simple food, well made.

I really liked this pizza - the approach to cut off a piece and pay by weight is a good one and I wish it happened more often. The pizza was really tasty. Good gelato, too!

This great spot has a sleek Italian vibe. The food ranges from pizzas, soups and salads to pasta and meat dishes. The portions are more than adequate and the staff is very attentive. Save room for the array of sweets from pastries to gelato. Not to be missed.

We were in Philadelphia for a visit and passed this very inviting place and decided to try their pizzas. It was a wonderful experience; the pizza was delicious, as was the artisanal gelato. I'd like to highlight the warm welcome from the friendly and nice staff. Silvano Italy

Delicious authentic Italian food. The gnocchi is simply amazing. Gelato is good. Reasonable prices in the heart of Philly.

We stopped at Alice (pronounced A-lee-chay, I believe) for dinner while in Philadelphia last week. Boy, were we pleasantly surprised. It was a beautiful day, so we were able to eat outside - maybe not ideal in a city like Philly, but still pleasant. (My understanding is that the outside tables were reserved for those ordering off the menu, not those just stopping in for a slice of pizza or gelato.) We did order off the menu, and Alan, our waiter, was excellent. As a pre-dinner cocktail, we ordered Sgroppinos. BEST drink I've ever had (though rather tiny for the price), a mixture of limoncello, lemon vodka and sorbet - YUM. We first shared a Panzanella salad, which was very good. My Spaghetti Carbonara was to die for. LOVED it. My husband enjoyed his ravioli as well. Finished our meal with a small cup of gelato. The cherry/vanilla I chose (after taste-testing 3 or 4 flavors, all of which were very good) was superb, and my husband enjoyed his, as well, though I forget which kind he had. I surely don't know what these other reviewers experienced, but our visit was excellent. This is real Italian food - reminded me of the wonderful meals we had during a trip to southern Italy a few years ago. Worth a trip to Philadelphia just for dinner!
Terrible
I attended this restaurant last night around 7pm, and had no waiting time for a table which was great. However, the food was terrible, I ordered a margarita pizza and a broccoli pasta dish. The pizza was extremely burnt on the bottom and was difficult to cut, the pasta was average and overcooked. The service from the male server was even worse than the food, long waits for drinks, never offered grated cheese for the pasta (I had to ask), asked for additional sauce and he never came back, didn’t ask to refill drinks, the list goes on. - however ironically enough when the bill was produced he managed to say thank you which was the first time the entire night, maybe because he thought he would get a tip? Not after that service sunshine.
