If I could give 10 stars I would! This restaurant is a hidden gem right in the middle of the Italian Market section of Philly. We were walking around trying to figure out where to grab a bite to eat for lunch and what grabbed our attention was the smooth melodic blowing of a saxophone musician. In all honesty the dining area is not too spectacular but the food and service make up wonderfully for the lack of aesthetics when it comes to the decor. For starters I had a pumpkin latte which was delicious. I ordered the butternut squash soup and Bpt was I pleased! It was so good. It was creamy with some corn and what looked like some type of seeds in it. The soup has a touch of spice which brought it over the top. For my lunch entree I had the steak quesadillas. They were the best quesadillas I’ve had. It has pieces of corn and Chile; served with green hot sauce, guacamole and crema. DELICIOUS!!! My girlfriend couldn’t decide between the pumpkin pancakes and the salmon sandwich. Ultimately, she went with the salmon which she enjoyed, served with sweet potato fries. She loved it. What surprised us was when the waitress came out with a serving of the pancakes which we did not ask for but gladly accepted. Oh my lord they were amazing. Best pancakes I have eaten. As we sat there we kept seeing different plates coming out to other tables and we were surprised by the amazing smells and portions. This is definitely a hidden gem! You have to give this place a try. According to the waitress, if you want a beer or alcohol it is byob. We did not know, but next time we will!
Tiny restaurant is big on taste
Delicious and authentic! This family-owned restaurant is tucked into the 9th Street Italian Market neighborhood. We had the opportunity to try a few of their dishes during a food tour (highly recommend Philly StrEATS food tour with Chef Jackie, as well), and everything we tried was delicious. Alma is so sweet and an amazing cook, and we look forward to returning soon.
