Good but today a bit uneven

By Jay F |

I eat here occasionally and have generally found their food to be good to very good. Today ws a bit below par. Ordered the lunch plate of bef shwarma with hummus, bava ganouj, and a Greek salad which came with 2 pitas and a soft drink. The Greek salad was excellent though arguably a bit sloppy. The pitas were custom cooked and were outstanding. The hummus had great texture but seemed shot on Tahini. The baba ganouj was good but average at best. IMO too smoky and a touch bitter as a result. The beef shwarma was average at best and djsappointing. I will go back but I will probably choose the gyro next time.

Very good Med food.

By Jay F |

We are blessed to have several good to very good Med restaurants in this area so I rarely take a chance when I want Med. But I was looking for a new place and saw this was almost next door to where I needed to go. So I tried Almarah and I am glad I did. The spice mix is a bit different but the food was very good to excellent. Fresh tasting. Appealing flavors. I had the lunch plate with gyro and three sides. I chose the Greek salad, hummus, and baba ganoush. The gyro meat and pitas were above average. The Greek salad was smallish and pretty average. But the hummus and baba ganoush were excellent. I will definitely go back.

Pleasant surprise!!!

Was visiting town from Houston and found this place on google maps. Thought I’d roll the dice and see. Wow was I impressed. I got the Gyro plate and Dolma appetizer. It came with a nice salad and enough for two gyros and a side of rice. I am very full and satisfied.

Good Arabic food

Cute restaurant. Nice ambiance. Halal food, not too far from masjid. Enjoyed the mixed kabob platter!

Wonderful lunch plate

By Michael M |

We had a great lunch here. The tomatoe soup was just perfect. We shared a chicken swarma and it was perfect. The bobaganous was delicious. Nice smoky flavor. Sorry I can’t spell this wonderful food!

Charging for toppings on UberEats?

By Helen C |

We ordered a large Monster Everything Pie through UberEats which charges for the toppings. I don't see that happening on the restaurant's website. Though the toppings were extra, there wasn't very much of it. Tasty, no doubt, but not crispy.

so much food!

By thatgirljen |

We grabbed lunch on a Friday, and were super happy we decided to check out Almarah. Friendly service, and nice decor. We all got the lunch platter, which was a ton of food. The gyro meat was delicious, the babaganouj was very flavorful, and the salad was well made. I like a bit more lemon and garlic in my hummus, but it tasted fresh and was also pretty good. I could have just eaten the pita bread, it was served warm <3 - we will definitely be back again.

Excellent pita bread

By Gita V |

The best thing about our dinner was the pita bread, for it was absolutely amazing - very soft and thin. We ordered vegetarian platter and a Falafel sandwich, which I found too long and hence difficult to finish. This was our first time to this restaurant. It was an enjoyable dinner.

First timers - we loved the food

By Wordtamer |

It isn't a big place, sits in a strip mall, but had plenty of seating The fellow who took served our table was friendly and attentive. He kept drinks filled and quickly responded to our requests for things. I had the chicken shawerma plate. It was loaded with tender / crispy bits of chicken, a large side of rice, and a nice side salad. My wife had the shrimp plate. We also ordered a full order of hummus to share with our table. Everything was delicious. We were quite impressed with the freshly made pita breads. I had to ask for another order because everyone at the table loved them. The hummus was quite good also, but it wasn't served with any pita chips or anything, we had to use the pita bread that came with the meals, but no complaint. The fresh pita with the hummus was quite a treat. The one mild annoyance was that we selected a table near the wall that sits between the restaurant and their hookah cafe next door. There was a slight odor of smoke. I'm quite sensitive to smoke, but it wasn't strong enough to cause me any problems. When I return, and I will, I'll find a table farther away from the hookah cafe wall. Thanks Almarah Grill for a terrific dinner! BTW, my grandson had a small cheese pizza and he and his dad loved it.

been going 4 years now not good

By Chica Traveler |

I don't know what has happened but last 2 times I went the pizza was overcooked and they used to have real cheese on the pizzas and now they changed the cheese to pre- grated with way to much salt- the cheese is horrible Also the falafel went downhill, used to be sooooo much better and they used to give you an extra pita and now they don't.

Great food, casual dining

By niketa_d |

We love Mediterranean/Middle Eastern food, and Almarah has moved to the top of our list when we're in the mood for it. The pita/bread that comes with the hummus or baba ganoush, is AMAZING... super soft and delicious. It's unlike the typical flat pita that you get everywhere else. We've mostly just had the chicken kebab plates and shawermas, but basically, everything we've eaten is great. Including the fragrant rice. The decor is casual, but I just love the turkish lanterns they've adorned throughout the dining space. It makes for great lighting and visually very pleasing. It looks like a family run business... hope they do well.

Fantastic food at great price.

By Om Maniyar |

I have visited Almarah a few times now. They have some of the best Mediterranean food I have had anywhere. Falafal is fresh, meat is tender and tasty. Hummus is very fresh and so is Pita bread. Staff is very helpful as well. The atmosphere is no-frills and service is great! We do eat inside and do the pickup frequently. Always a great experience.

One of our faves

By UncleRMC |

Been here about a dozen times by now. Time to review. Strip mall, but comfortable. Although we've tried many items we tend to come for our faves. A 1/2 order of hummus to start (the pita straight from the oven is amazing) and then I get a gyro and my wife has the falafel. Service is good, not smiley exceptional, but fast is good. Highly recommend their tasty food.

Another good restaurant in Mediterranean

By vin301990 |

The food was so different and delicious. Tried hummus, falafal, Veg Meza platter, Gyro plate, Chicken Shorma, Lamb shank, Grilled fish plate. All the platters and items were good except falafal (not as authentic as it should be). Sometimes they mess up with your order. So be careful.

Flavourful!

By Helen C |

We had the Khoufta Kebab which was little salty but juicy, Lamb Chops which were tender, and the Almarah Meza Platter which had shreded chicken, lamb, and beef. Only the chicken was less flavorful. Overall, the food was good, and service prompt.

large portions of adequate Mediterranean grub

By utfiero |

Some friends dragged us reluctantly to Almarah in early April. We arrived at an off-hour, mid-afternoon on a Sunday, and the restaurant was practically empty. Food: The portions are huge, but the food ranges from decent to far below average. For example, my wife ordered the lamb shank; it was stewed but practically flavorless. I had the Almarah Meza Platter combo plate with three types of shawarma- chicken, lamb, and beef. The shawarmas were good – ranging from very good flavor with the chicken to merely edible for the beef. Service: Overall adequate. Our waiter was neither talkative nor friendly. He tolerated the table of heathens and dutifully fulfilled our requests. Hostess: A waiter served as host, and he signaled that our group had already been seated. The waiter was not particularly friendly or communicative. Overall cleanliness: average Bathroom cleanliness: below average

My new fave!

By Debbie M |

Fresh and flavorful with friendly service! Can't wait to go back and try the pizza. The hummus was light with just enough spice. We both had the shish kabob combo...yummy!

Fantastic fresh Mediterranean food

By IWantTwoRetire |

My wife said it was the best Greek salad with chicken she has ever had. The pita bread is not from a bag, but served freshly baked. The Gyros my son and I had were delicious. We’ll come back again when we’re in Austin. It is a fairly new restaurant in a strip shopping center, so it just to enjoy the food. Note they serve pizza too, which we may try next time.

Good Mediterranean in an unpretentious setting

By CraftBeerHunter |

This restaurant is in a strip mall on Ranch Road 620 northwest of Austin proper. The decor is, to be plain, charmless, but ... the food was good, plentiful and reasonably priced. My wife had a gyro pita which she quite enjoyed. I had a shish kabob mix plate of koufta (ground beef), beef and chicken, with a Greek salad, seasoned rice and a large plate of fresh in-house pitas. I was given a doneness choice on the beef and it was followed. The salad was subtly dressed, not over-done, and the feta good quality, not overly salty. The meat was all very good, although the marinades were a bit salty (I may be a bit sensitive from salt-reduced diet). The whole chicken and beef were tender. The tzatziki sauce was under-stated, quite good. We tried both types of baklava served, regular and cream-filled, both very good - not overly sweet. Everyone in the restaurant was friendly and helpful. The bill was very reasonable given the quality and quantity of the food. We will certainly be back.

Worst pizza we ever had

By Dugs S |

Don't bother, you can get better pizza from the supermarket. Ordered a large pie and left half of it there

Great taste!

By Helen C |

We love coming here because the taste never disappoints. We had the Lamb Chops, Beef and Lamb Sherwma, and the Kebab Plate. The chicken on the Kebab Plate was a little dry, but the Lamb Chops were marvelous!

They are the best in Austin, Texas and the world

By ron h |

Saturday, they have a beast D.J via D.J Al. I love their service. Friendliest, cool, and polite employee. Food and hookah are awesome. Come and join us. Life is short, than you need be enjoy every second of your life in Almrah.

Great for takeout too!

By Jay F |

Tonight we ordered takeout from Almarah for the first time. While the food is better fresh and hot at the restaurant we found the food quite appealing after a ten minute trip home. We ordered Kebeh, a Schwarma plate, and a Spannokopita plate. Lots of food for two. The Kebeh were outstanding. The Hummus, Baba Ganoush, Spannokopita, were excelent. The salad and Schwarma were a step down but good. Overall, a good meal at a pretty good price. Recommended!

Secret is the babaganouj

By gtsyldy |

Eaten many times. Many good things fresh kofta and lamb The pita made fresh to order best babaganouj not too smoky and usually just the right balance tahini light whip like heaven.

Great place

We have been here several times. Food is always great. Service is very friendly. Absolutely recommend.

Decent, but...

By Gary T |

This place is located in a strip mall off RR 620. They were pretty busy but seemed to be functioning pretty well. Service and the kitchen were both fast and efficient. We visited on a Saturday night with a reservation that we were late for. They held our table. We started with a half order of Hummus and the Bread and Hummus were both good. A half order is more than enough for two people. I had the Almarah Mixed Grill and the Chops and Chicken were both good but over salted. The ground beef was just okay and I didn't actually finish it. The salad was delicious and the rice was favorable. My wife had the Lamb Shank and it was disappointing. It done in a tomato broth and it was not fall off the bone slow cooked. In fact she had to work pretty hard to cut the meat off of the shank and it was tough. She did enjoy the Grilled Vegetables that come with it.

Nothing Special

By JoeNader |

I took my family to this restaurant and I was disappointed with the service and food quality. Lots of improvement needed for this place. First thing is the service. We didn’t feel welcome at all. Server was kinda dry. Second the food quality is not good at all. All our dishes with meat were very dry and doesn’t have a flavor. Even the bread wasn’t even done. The only thing tasted half decent is the hummus. I’m not even sure if we ever go back. All and all it’s a C-

Getting better

By gtsyldy |

Went in. For a quick salad to bring to party. Got the babaganoush. Good an fresh bread. Also got felafel.. Slightly dry but good sauce. All went quickly with nothing to take home.

Easily the best Mediterranean food in North Austin/Suburbs

By Adnan K |

Decided to try out this place and was in for a very pleasant surprise. The portions were large and the meat was succulent. The rice that is usually served at Mediterranean places is typically bland and tasteless in my opinion, but this place was an exception. The rice was perfectly flavored and certainly not spicy, so even those averse to spicy fare should enjoy this item. I ordered the mixed grill platter which was moderately priced and well prepared. Definitely my go to place in North Austin when I crave Mediterranean fare.

Great find, great food, interesting atmosphere.

By MADWORKER |

They have amazing Kibbeh, really fresh tasting hummus, and many more delicious dishes. This was my first visit with two others and we were all happy and stuffed with good Mediterranean food. Come hungry. Their bread is also really good, but different, not thin, rather thick, but not a bad thing. The only thing they have going against them is the location, but as long as they keep their quality people will find them. They also make pizza!?!?!, but I did not try that.

Some good some not

By gtsyldy |

Told was like the cafes of Jerusalem had been to some with the broad Ararat of salads and fresh shwarma and kafta The salads were limited but the bread was good and fresh. The shwarma had flavor but was so tough I could not eat a good third of the plate. Not sure if the other is any good but not into ready made gyro as same everywhere. Most reviews mention their pizza but I went there for the middle eastern dining. At least the baklava was good.

food is awesome but has nutmeg

By Raihan K |

Hi the food is really cool but the chicken and some stuff has nutmeg. It is considered as intoxicant and so the careful Muslims have to watch out and ask the servers. Very friendly and wonderful workers...

Delicious Mediterranean cuisine!

By Gloria L |

My gyros salad was heavenly and my daughter enjoyed the chicken soup and Moroccan black mint tea. Our other guest found the gyros entrée. The big variety of desserts was incredible and I tried one bird’s nest, so tasty!

So delicious!

By SuTx |

The food here was amazing. I had the mixed kebab plate. The beef was probably my favorite. My friend had garlic chicken pizza, and it was phenomenal. The hummus needed a bit of a kick, but the bread that came with it was to die for. This place isn't fancy, but it's delicious. I can't wait to go back!

Great wait staff!!

By Shawn M |

Attentive help, great Baklava including the cream kind and nut ones! Bread outstanding! Great chicken shashwarma and wonderful sides! I want to go back again to try some other items. No women working though.......all men.

Excellent Mediterranean

By Matt601 |

1st visit here but won't be our last. Top quality Lebanese/Arabic/Mediterranean food in a pleasant if simple atmosphere. This new family owned local restaurant has great food at very reasonable prices. Try it and you will like it. Guaranteed!

Great Lunch Deal

By Mike M |

Nice casual atmosphere and a $9.99 lunchtime special! Main dish, three sides, snd a drink. Chicken Swarma and/or mixed Gyro were fresh and delicious. Sides of Greek salad, Baba Ganosh also great. Highly recommended for lunch!

Outstanding Food, Pretty Venue

By KarenFromTexas |

Almarah opened recently in a strip shopping center location on Ranch Road 620 near my neighborhood. After reading many favorable reviews on Yelp which indicated 4.5 stars I decided to try visit the restaurant. My husband and I had lunch at Almarah and we thoroughly enjoyed every bite. The menu includes not only Mediterranean food but also a large selection of pizzas for even more dining options. The hummus is excellent, better than every other Mediterranean restaurant I have eaten at in Austin. The tzatziki sauce is delicious and the entrees we had were equally spectacular. The fresh homemade taste and the freshly made pita bread make this a favorite for my family. Thank you for coming to our neighborhood Almarah and for being so good! You are a welcome change from the many chain restaurants that are located along the 183/620 corridors.

Family Dinner

By Linda L |

My husband ‘s favorite restaurant, he bought us here to celebrate my birthday. Their lamb chops were amazing, all of us like their rice. We all enjoyed it, will definitely come back.

Good food, reasonable price.

By dukettes |

Service was slow, but we were there mid afternoon - possibly the lunch service was wrapping up. The food was surprisingly good and affordable. Our group of 5 were all happy with their orders. The pita bread was especially good.

Reliably good!

By Jay F |

Stopped by for a gyro for lunch. The gyro was above average IMO. The pita it was wrapped in was gloriously fresh and soft. The accompanying fries were pretty average but nicely done. The hot tea was delicious on a cold day. Recommended!

Just Ok

By Debra H |

A young man got up from his lunch to seat us. He was talking orders, opening doors, seating customers and just doing everything. Although there were other employees, it seemed like only two people were working. It was clean. However, the food was just average. It lacked the spicy middle east flavors.

Amazing Mediterranean Cuisine

By Abdullah A |

I'd enjoyed one of its kind mediterranean cuisine at Almarah Restaurant during my last visit to Austin. The restaurant offers all Halal menu. The place is a little far from Downtown Austin, but definitely deserves a visit.
