Worst service I have had in a restaurant in a long time.

By jrm0ntes |

Came to the restaurant as per Reccomendation of my Hotel Rittenhouuse . Atmosphere is pleasant and joyful They gave me the menu I asked for a salad that was terrible bathed in black pepper followed by Shrimps covered by black pepper. I am allergic to pepper but they never asked about allergies!! So I had a Belvedere Vodka on the rocks with a twist of lemon for dinner!! Not bad ( $22)

Great Vibe!!!

This place is great. The chicken Kofta is one of the juiciest kabobs I have ever had. This place was rocking. Everyone is dressed to the nines. I have not seen that many beautiful women in one place in a long time. Definitely a place to go hang out and enjoy a drink.

Discriminatory and Unwelcoming Experience

By Matthew K |

I visited Almyra last weekend to meet a date for a drink before dinner. My date had arrived early, gotten us seats at the bar, and ordered wine. When I walked in - wearing pressed white pants, a green knit tank, and loafers - the manager immediately asked if I had a coat. I said no and explained I was meeting someone. He told me I “needed a coat,” despite several women nearby in sleeveless outfits. I was shocked, as this was the same outfit I'd worn to Vernick Foods earlier this month, a clearly higher-level dining establishment. I decided to join my date briefly while he closed out the tab, but halfway through my drink, security approached to tell me to leave. When I pointed out the inconsistency and that the woman next to me wore a sleeveless outfit, they simply said no, she could stay. This was not about dress code - it was about discrimination. Reviews online show a pattern of arbitrary enforcement targeting people of color and LGBTQ patrons. Almyra hides bias behind the guise of “policy,” creating an environment that is unwelcoming and exclusionary. Patrons deserve better from any establishment that claims to represent Philadelphia’s dining scene.

Dinner was delicious!

Our family loves Almyra! They offer many healthy options on the menu. The dips, fish dishes and vegetable sides were all excellent. The food tastes very fresh! They accommodate allergies and offer attentive service. I highly recommend this restaurant, especially for anyone with an allergy because they have allergy awareness and excellent options.

Excellent (But Noisy) Take on Greek

By compozr |

We've been a fan of Estia restaurants for their authentic Greek cuisine, so we were eager to try their latest venture. Almyra offers a modern take on Greek/Mediterranean staples. The menu is not all that extensive, so our large group had the opportunity to try almost everything. We enjoyed the opening spread assortment (I particularly liked the Spicy Feta), and everyone loved the Romaine salad and the more traditional Greek Cretan Village salad (the tomatoes!). The Shrimp Saganaki and Wagyu Dumpling appetizers were also tasty, but the big hits were the Spanakopita Manti and the Charred Octopus--which some in our group raved was the best octopus preparation they'd ever had. We also loved the various Kebabs, all of which were perfectly seasoned and cooked. I rated the Filet Kabob I ordered the best of all. Members of our group also thoroughly enjoyed the Chicken, Lamb, and Seabass entrees. I should also mention the Tomato & Feta Orzo side, which everyone thought was absolutely delicious. My one caveat is that Almyra is a sleek, contemporary nightspot with a large bar adjacent to the dining area. The music, which becomes increasingly loud with each passing hour, is the kind of EDM often heard in trendy nightspots. I'm sorry, but listening to the same four chords over the same drum-machine dance beat at the same tempo starts to feel more like torture than ambience after about an hour. My point is that, at least at night, you are effectively dining in a nightclub, which means straining to hear others at your table and having to speak loudly to be heard. If you enjoy a pleasant evening of dinner conversation, or if you're looking for a romantic experience, this is probably not your spot, particularly after about 8pm. I'm perhaps more sound-sensitive than many people, but I can only report that I was relieved to escape the persistent noise when we left. That said, I would hate to deter you from trying the food. It really is excellent, and their modern take on Greek cuisine is interesting, surprising, and definitely worth checking out.

Good food but loud

Had dinner on Friday night at Almyra. It was near our hotel in the Rittenhouse neighborhood. We enjoyed the dips/spreads , lavrqki, Chilean sea bass and the beef dumpling. It has more of a club atmosphere with a dj playing loud club music. We were seated in a back room which was a bit quieter and received attentive service. Dessert was sorbet and ice cream and was not memorable.

"To the Owners of Almyra" I am writing to express my profound disappointment regarding an incident that occurred on Saturday, July 12th during a reservation for my son's 30th birthday. Upon arrival, my son's father was rudely confronted by your security guard, (Dwayne)( who later was laughing and smirking towards me with sarcasm), about wearing a hat, despite being dressed in otherwise appropriate attire (dress khaki pants, button-up shirt). This was particularly frustrating as I had observed another male patron wearing a t-shirt, shorts, and a baseball cap being permitted entry when I was just three weeks prior. Both managers I spoke with (including the one who later called me back) refused to make an exception, even after I explained the special occasion and guest driving 1 hr to come there and the inconsistency in policy enforcement. This rigid and seemingly arbitrary application of your dress code, coupled with the lack of empathy from your staff, completely ruined what was meant to be a Special celebration. The inconsistent enforcement of your dress code, as well as the dismissive attitude of your security and management, is a serious concern. It detracts from your establishment's reputation and customer experience. I strongly urge you to review your policies and provide proper staff training on consistent enforcement and appropriate customer service. This experience ultimately forced us to find an alternative restaurant the last minute. Happily we found a highly accommodating and welcoming experience at "SPICE FINCH" directly across the street, where the food, drinks, and service were EXCEPTIONAL, and the prices were more reasonable! I had a follow-up call with one of your managers Megan. Which she wish security wouldn't be the reason for me not to return. However, it wasn't just the security that influenced my decision. You had opportunities to improve the situation and chose not to, which also played a significant role. I hope the owners seriously consider looking into this matter further.

Greek Nightcap

It is nice to see a bigger Greek restaurant presence in downtown Philadelphia, especially one that is done well. Even though it was a very busy Friday night, the service was still excellent. I am looking forward to having more than drinks next time.

A great way to celebrate our anniversary

My husband and I had a delightful meal at Almyra. He had the short rib and I had two small plates: the spanakopita and a snap pea salad. We finished off the meal with a perfect mille-feuille for dessert. We also had excellent service from Andrew. A great way to celebrate our anniversary.
