I have been frequenting this pub-pizzeria for years, and it is always a pleasure to be welcomed by the owners with kindness and professionalism. Having intolerant problems, they are attentive and meticulous, worth trying are the kebabs, the Ascoli olives and the pizzas. Highly recommended👍

Obviously, we loved the Beef Wellington. The shrimp cocktail and corn side were also delicious. Wine pairings, decor and service were all first rate... we did find the tuna carpaccio a little salty and the chocolate cake "looked" better than it tasted... the mint ice cream served on the side of the cake tasted a little "too minty"... like chewing gum... would have been better if made with real mint rather than extract, IMO. Be forewarned... listen to your server... the restaurant is DARK and the text on the menu is TINY... so listen very carefully... you won't be able to read a thing...

Our wedding anniversary was very well spent at Alpen Rose, Schulson's newest addition to its restaurant collection. Located just next door to Double Knot, it would have been missed completely had we not known the street number as there was no visible sign. The locked front door prevented walk-ins for which there would have been no space due to the very small room, and the speakeasy-style panel in the door that was opened when we knocked added a fun sense of intrigue. There are perhaps eleven tables and five seats at the bar in the clubby room, so space is very limited and reservations essential. A classic steakhouse menu is well executed here, with many of the usual side dishes accompanying delicious ample cuts of beef. Cocktails were excellent and service was very good. Our only minor complaint was the noise level, which was extreme -- even holding a conversation across our small table for two was a challenge, and it was very difficult to hear our server. All in all, however, we had a wonderful time here and would definitely return.

Ate there last night. Great ambience and decor but one of the worst steakhouses I’ve been to as far as food goes. Got a NY strip Pittsburgh medium rare, it was about an inch thick if that and very tough to cut. The creamed spinach side dish was served in what looked like a coffee cup - very small portion. Been to all the steakhouses often. The food here just doesn’t compare to any of them. Sorry.

I would like to caveat this review by saying that our waitress was phenomenal. Our reservation was at 9:00 - when we arrived, we were informed our table was just finishing their dessert, and were asked to go next door to Double Knot to wait at the bar. This was not a problem, as the drinks there are good. We were not able to be seated until 9:30. Not that much of a big deal - it is a Friday night, so morale was good. We were greeted fairly quick by the waitress (who was phenomenal) who took our drink order. The drinks did not come out until around 10:00 (1 hour past reservation). We did not have anything on our table aside from the water, from 9:30-10:00. At 10:00, our drinks finally arrived, along with a complimentary appetizer for the long wait. The plate was glorified roast beef lunch meat, which, though delicious, was not a suitable make up for the hour delay. When our food came out, the filet was neither the right temperature nor the right cut. The best I could describe it would be a cheap cut of pot roast that you would cook in a crock pot all day long to be edible. When questioned, the waitress promptly requested replacement, and informed us that it was the end cut. This would not be as much of an issue if we were not paying $50 for the meat. Even after these noted issues, we were not greeted or approached by a manager, or even anyone pretending to be a manager. This was highly surprising. Most established restaurants would make it a point to speak to a table when they experience an issue. The meal was quite tasty, ambiance impressive, and waitress attentive, but for the cost, it was not quite worth it. We could be more satisfied with a meal at Del Frisco’s or Capital Grille. If this restaurant wants to last, it will have to take a hard look at current practices.

We had such a great birthday celebration at Alpen Rose! Service was outstanding by our waiter. They even brought out a sparkler on our dessert to celebrate. The food was amazing an everything was cooked perfectly. They were also able to easily accommodate the vegetation of the group. Everything was superb and we will definitely back go a special occasion in the future.

We had such a fun time at Alpen Rose! I love the cozy and charming vibes there and the service is top notch. Food was - to put it mildly - ✨glorious✨We got the bone marrow toast to start with, then the beef wellington and the rib-eye. Both were delicious and cooked to perfection. We got 3 sides not knowing what we were getting ourselves into; it was way too much food but it made for great leftovers with my wellington! We ended the night with a neapolitan sundae to share, also not realizing that it was going to be bigger than the size of my head. I can’t tell you enough how ridiculous this thing was (in a good way). We giggled eating it the whole time because it reminded us of how colossal sundaes were to us when we were kids - and we absolutely annihilated it. I only have fond memories of this place and can’t wait to take more loved ones to this special spot. Crossing my fingers that my fiance will consider having our wedding dinner reception there! 😄

This is priced and marketed as a very upscale special occasion steak house. There is cool anti-signage and a speak easy greeting to raise expectations. Sadly, the specialness stops there. As others have said in reviews, they play dumbly loud rock music which destroys the mood and forces everyone to speak louder creating a din. The lights are so dim we needed our phone flashlights - seriously ridiculous. The service feels very college-level and artificial. None of the calm wisdom you want at this price point. I came just for the Beef Wellington and it was very underwhelming. None of the flavor pop that mushroom coating should have and a very very skimpy serving of sauce which was mediocre anyway. The final straw was the worst wine list I’ve ever faced. Wines by the glass averaged for $20. We tried all 6 options before giving up as they were all virtually i drinkable - they weren’t wines you’d pay $9 a bottle for. So I went to the beer list which is worse than most pizza joints in this city. Unforgivably bad curation but ownership. Hate to say it but the larger ownership group in this city beats them at the steak house game in every way.

Upon arriving at the front door, you need to buzz and a face appears through a door panel like a speak-easy. When they have confirmed your reservation, you're allowed in. Interesting, but it does save the space needed for an entryway, and space is at a premium here. The not overly-largish room (only one) does not waste an inch of space. Thankfully, the interior design does not increase the noise volumn, but the place is loud and conversation across a table difficult. Noise, and a low light level are issues-- I saw many tables using their phones to illuminate the menus, and it must be an issue since servers are quick to whip out mini-flashlights to help patrons. Those issues aside, the food is very good. The beef was excellent and prepared just as ordered. The sides varied from excellent broccoli and onion rings to an very uninspired spinach. Service also varies. Some servers were exceptionally attentive, while getting the attention of others was problematic. But if you are seeking exceptional beef, this is the place.

I had wanted to dine here for a while, and we finally did on Xmas Eve. It was a wonderful experience. The restaurant, while small, is beautiful. Service was professional and attentive, similar to what we have experienced at 5 star restaurants. We splurged and had the caviar- it was a large portion. We enjoyed the beef tartare and the the oysters Rockefeller also. My Beef Wellington was prepared very well. My daughter did not care for her salmon and something else was quickly substituted. Drinks were also excellent. Yes, this is an expensive restaurant but it was well worth it.

If you want a swanky place with good food for your birthday dinner, this is definitely the place to go. We were impressed from the second we arrived. Having to ring the doorbell on the door with just a rose plaque was very speakeasy-like and I LOVE stuff like that. The interior is very moody and upscale and makes you feel exclusive. The service from our waiter was outstanding. We were well taken care of and he made sure we had everything we needed. He had great recommendations for my vegetarian boyfriend and let him know what modifications they could make to make a few of the sides compliant with his diet. The food was amazing. Everything we ordered was perfectly cooked. Definitely recommend the bone marrow toast (as a lot of people told me before going). That was definitely my favorite part of the meal. They put a sparkler on my chocolate cake for dessert and it was just all a great experience.

I have had dinner at Alpen Rose twice in the last 6 weeks and cannot wait to return! Had a magical experience both times - which started with the Wizard of Oz type welcome when one door panel opens to welcome you in! The aged steaks are melt in your mouth delicious - loved the ribeye and NY strip especially. The shrimp cocktail is fantastic, as is the tuna carpaccio. The turnip side dish is delicious, as are the creamed spinach and whipped potatoes. The baked Alaska dessert which they light on fire was heavenly. The wine list is stellar - had a delectable Barolo. Loved the club style atmosphere and excellent service. Dined at the bar the second time and the bartender was an absolute star - recommended the delectable Barolo and introduced us to some amazing rum and cocktail concoctions! He made the experience so memorable. Alpen Rose is an outstanding addition to the hot Philly restaurant scene and I cannot wait to return!

This place is not horrible but it is absolutely over-priced for the quality of the food and really the whole experience in general. The oysters were good and they do have a kick ass hot sauce! We also ordered the grilled octupus and that was a complete joke. They gave us three small pieces that were lost in a sea of wedged potatoes that were literally like the ones you buy at the grocery store and bake for your kids. Epic fail! I will say the sides were actually pretty solid. We got the mushrooms and spinach. Not as good as other steak houses but serviceable. The steak is where my coworker and I had our heads explode. I got the NY Strip, which was noted as being 14 oz. I literally got a steak that was no more than 9 or 10. Additionally, it was pencil thin and had little flavor. To be canidd, it was absolutely awful. It looked like a thin sliced, store bought strip you throw on the grill at home. My coworker got the ribeye, which by the looks of it was pretty solid. However, it was the most over marbled steak he had ever had. 70% plus of it was fat. It was almost not edible. Truth be told, we would have sent both steaks back but it was getting late and we were tired from travel, so we just muscled through it. Lastly, the place is tiny and terribly loud. You have to yell to have a conversation and they pack you in like sardines. I would not go back.

I was in Philly solo but heard so much good about Alpen Rose I had to make a reservation and try it! That was a great decision! The aged steak (rib eye) was probably the best I have ever had! The creamed spinach was a perfect complement. I sat at the cozy bar (just 5 seats) and had an amazing conversation with the bartender (Dan). He was welcoming without overbearing. I picked one cocktail from the "card catalog" of drinks provided to me. They all have numbers. I chose No. 76 which was amazing! When my meal was served, Dan chose another drink for me paired with my meal choices. It was delicious as well. The decor is beautiful and there is much attention to all details making this a stand-out restaurant. It is pricey, but worth it for a special dinner. I hope to dine at Alpen Rose in the future when in Philadelphia.

I will start by saying the food is excellent and the atmosphere unique. However, the small space that seats about 40 cannot handle the summer heat due to the open concept kitchen and grill. Nothing worse than sweating through your entire meal with no relief in sight despite the apologies from the staff. If not for the heat and inadequate air conditioning I would give this review 4 stars. Steaks and sides amazing. Also, had to wait a half out to be seated for our reservation and take for drinks next door to the Double Knot. While I love that restaurant, this was not the drink/dining experience I was looking for. Will try again in the fall.

I took my husband here to celebrate. From the moment we were greeted at the door until we walked out we were treated like we were the only customers in the restaurant. The ambiance reminds you of a past time speakeasy which added to our overall experience. The service, food and cocktails were above average and we are already making plans to go back with friends and family.

The whole 'speakeasy' vibe was lost on us as the first employee we encountered seemed more like a doorkeeper from Studio 54: "Hi we have reservations". Employee disappears inside and closes the door leaving us out on the sidewalk. Employee reappears and says our companions had arrived early but they sent them elsewhere to wait for us. She's going to see if her Manager can find them. Employee disappears inside again and closes the door on us again. Door reopens and we are finally invited inside. This should be even more fun in the middle of a Philly Winter. We are shown to our table. We can see why they won't bring you into the restaurant as there is no space inside for patrons to wait and I believe the bar only had 4 chairs/stools. The decor is a bit contrived. Barrel ceiling is nice but ultimately it amplifies the noise. Most tables, regardless of age, are using phones or votive candles to try to see the menus. Our server was very nice and very attentive. Our water glasses never ran dry and beverages were replenished when requested. Dinner service was a perfect pace. She didn't think they had spiced rum and brought a mixed drink from the bar but none of us managed to figure out what it was. The Beef tartare was very good. The Beef Wellington is very expensive at $78. Even though the mushroom duxelles was a little on the dry side, the beef, the pastry and the bordelaise were excellent. Everything is a la carte and I would not say the sides are sharing portions. All the service staff we encountered were very nice folks. Oddly, there is only 1 single-user bathroom for the restaurant although you can go through the kitchen to their restaurant next door to use the restrooms there. Too much effort overall for my liking but probably worth checking out for those who love a pricey steak-house. I almost forgot to mention that we were there to celebrate a recent elopement and our server very graciously brought 4 sparkling wines to the table with her congratulations.

Top 3 all time. Nailed it. Nice pens. Bartender has secret White Russian and Espresso martini recipes. Get both. Good sparkling water. Ridiculous service. This is a gem. Go here to impress someone, price is worth it.

My wife and I celebrated our anniversary Labor Day Weekend at AR. We loved the place and if it hadn't been for a slip up, it would have been a perfect evening. First, the speakeasy like entrance is cool and the ambiance inside is amazing. Yes, it's a little loud because of the barrel ceiling and tight quarters, but we had no problem communicating at 7pm on a packed Saturday night. We started with the bone narrow toast and Everything Parker Rolls, both came piping hot and were excellent in every way. We ordered mushrooms and potato wedges and, again, both arrived piping hot and tasted amazing. (Maybe you sense where I'm going with this...) Finally, the steaks. I ordered my fav - bone-in ribeye, medium-rare and my wife had the filet, also medium-rare. Both excellent pieces if meat and both somewhat ruined by the fact they were NOT served piping hot. My wife's filet was very warm, but definitely not hot, but my ribeye was lukewarm at best. Huge disappointment. My waiter said this steak will be the best I've gad because of the quality of the meat and because it is cooked over a combination of wood and charcoal, and not broiled like its done at most other steakhouses. Well, don't forget to serve it sizzling hot because a lukewarm steak, no matter its provenance nor how it's cooked, can't be the best. Yes, the steak was good but not as good as the absolutely sizzling ribeye I recently had at Del Friscos. If Alpen Rose figures out how to better time the handoff from cook to server, then the restaurant may reach the pantheon of steakhouses. Unfortunately, they aren't there yet. (Note: I did not say anything to the wonderful server because it was a lovely night for my wife and I, and I didn't want to make a scene.)

One of the better steak restaurants in Philly, hands down. Quaint atmosphere, limited seating (40); however, there is nothing to absorb noise (wood all around you), so if you happen to get seated near an obnoxious talker and or laugher it REALLY lessens your enjoyment. On to the good stuff... Ordered up some signature drinks (#112) my date and myself thought they were very tasty. Didn't do any appetizers, but heard the octopus was good, (obnoxious talker near by- LOL) went with the grilled broccoli to accompany the beef wellington. The filet just melted in your mouth, then finished it off with their baked Alaska, which was very good as well. Two more #112's for a night cap. Needless to say, we closed the place.

It seemed a bit precious when we had to knock on the door of Alpen Rose. The hostess’s head popped out of the top panel (think speakeasy) to ask if we had reservations. Though once inside I realized this was actual a good idea to control the flow of people streaming along 13th St’s restaurant row. Casual walk-ins would definitely spoil the low key atmosphere being cultivated. It’s not a large dining room & the atmosphere is old world clubby meets millennial chic. Yes, it’s theatrical but the decor was done well but even more importantly the food was executed beautifully. Our party of four, followed our servers advice and ordered 3 appetizers, individual mains, and 3 side dishes. We started with the chopped salad, an avocado salad and a hot appetizer of delicious thickly sliced bacon spiced with rosemary & chili. Flavors were punchy and each dish stood up well on its own. Our mains were equally satisfying. I loved my perfectly cooked salmon with horseradish sauce. My husband was thrilled by his filet - pointing out the quality of the beef. My brother splurged and ordered the very tasty stuffed lobster. A banana cream pie, strawberry rhubarb pie and an excellent lemon sorbet concluded this marvelous meal. Service was very good. The staff was gracious, informative and attentive. Depending on alcohol consumption I would estimate a minimum of $90 per person. Considering a chain steak house will set you back at least $80 per person, this is a great value and Alpen Rose is worthy of your patronage.

First visit to the Allen Rose. It reminded me of a steak house my parents would have frequented 30 years ago. It’s supposed to be retro and does it well. The restaurant seats only 40 and even the bar seats (very comfortable) are reserved. Drinks were great. Our party had 4 different entrees. Prime Rib-perfect-exactly as requested, the fillet-over cooked but quickly replaced and without question, the stuffed lobster-excellent but not removed from the shell as described, and a fish order that was not a success. I should note when the bill was presented there was no charge for the fish. Desserts were excellent. I’ll definitely go back. Reservations a must have. No parking. Dress was business/business casual. Wait staff friendly and learning. Mgmt staff knows how to win a customers loyalty.

I came here without knowing it is a high scale restaurant, we were greeted by the host at the door and were let in because we had a reservation. Otherwise I think you can't get in. Very exclusive. Then, we got the prime rib which was absolutely delicious, some roasted cauliflower and asparagus to accompany and wine by the glass, my only suggestion is to have lower prices in the bottle of wines, after looking at their wine selection, i know the prices are too high for the wines they have, a better accommodation can be done here or they could improve the wine selection if the high prices are to be kept. Other than that, the place is very nice, good for an important business night or date or anniversary, the place is expensive but very impressive.

Excellent service, fabulous food, great atmosphere!! One of our party stated “the best steak I have ever had” A truly wonderful evening

During our trip to Philadelphia, we wanted one night to be at a steakhouse and were intrigued by the concept of this “boutique” restaurant. The restaurant is in an area that is surrounded by other restaurants and outdoor dining. The block it is on is pedestrian only at this time. There is no signage for this restaurant other than a black plaque with a rose embossed on it, so you need to look carefully for the entrance. The address is 113 S. 13th st and the address is shown by the door. Ring the doorbell, confirm your reservation through a panel in the door, and they let you in. Not sure what would happen if you didn’t have a reservation. The restaurant is small but beautiful with a wood barrel ceiling and dark and clubby like a good steakhouse should be. They recommend splitting the porterhouse (Filet and NY strip separated by a bone) or the tomahawk (bone in steak), if you and the person splitting it like your steak cooked at the same temperature. We went with the porterhouse recommendation, which was $103 (for two) and ordered a couple of sides. Everything was excellent. Steak had a great char and buttery flavor. Really liked the macaroni and cheese side and the forest mushroom side had a good but strong taste. Service was good but server did forget to bring out the bread rolls. Not cheap but if I came back to Philadelphia again, I would definitely come back.

We arrived at our reservation time (8:30pm) and the manager came outside to tell us the best estimate he had to seat us was in 30 minutes. We asked if we could be notified via text which they agreed to and they recommended getting a drink at double knot next store (same owners) which we did. 41 minutes after our reservation time we received a text our table was ready. We choose not to use our table at this restaurant as the manager was very unapologetic regarding the delay in honoring our reservation. We understand delays can occur in getting seating at our reservation time but the restaurant made no effort to apologize for the delay and provided no updates over the 40 plus minute delay. Overall the restaurant did not seem concerned the delay / treated us extremely poorly and the manager was extremely rude.

Top notch service . Impressive Menu with a High end wine selection. Prime beef is excellent and delicious. I had the beef Wellington and it was Outstanding. Our waiter Dan was great and attentive . Eclectic atmosphere and private with lots of ambience and not much distractions . The hostess manned the door do you could only get in with a reservation. No walk ins . Don’t forget your wallet . On the pricey side but worth it

Amazing, yummy and delicious food. We went here as a family and friends group of 7. We had steak, salmon, asparagus, mashed potatoes, macaroni, cauliflower, oysters and duck. All of the food was worth the wait. We were a large group and everything was cooked to perfection. Our new favorite ❤️ restaurant!

I flew in from Paris and was excited to invite my mother and family to Alpen Rose after hearing all the hype. A difficult reservation, but I thought it was worth it - oh wow, how I was so wrong. When we arrived we were informed through a hole in the door that the table wasn’t yet ready so we were shuffled over to the sister restaurant to sit at their bar and buy drinks. Is this done on purpose to push the alcohol consumption? After a 25 minute wait we were finally brought to our table. A load of bread and a tuna carpaccio was gracefully offered to help us forget the wait. After ordering dinner and opening our first bottle of wine we were serenaded by the sound of whaling fire alarms - they set off a fire in the kitchen!! A few minutes later we were told that we had to leave as the kitchen was now closed and the alarm were whaling in our ears. The manager (Eric) gracefully presented me with a bill for two bottles of wine - we didn’t even touch the second bottle - the waitress opened it in anticipation of our dinner that they cancelled on us. An interesting concept to charge clients for a second bottle they didn’t touch while being victims of a cancelled dinner ! No a single apology, just a “here is the bill - pay it!” After a short heated discussion the manager, Eric Sailor, finally accepted to remove the second bottle. If the manager and the establishment knew a bit about hospitality they would have apologised and mentioned that there was nothing to pay, but know. Not the case at all. I regret not having my dinner, but am happy I have understood the true colours of this establishment. Take my advice, stay far away!! The captor grill will welcome you with a smile and a friendly and professional staff !

Me and my wife were super excited to try the new and exciting place in Philly. So I thought why not do it as a special occasion for her 50th birthday. BIG MISTAKE! We arrived for our reservation at 5pm on Oct 27th and we’re immediately rushed to our seats right across the door. The server, middle aged man, who came off as old school know it all been in the steakhouse business for 20 years greeted us briefly and asked for our drinks. He did NOT go over the style of the menu, restaurant rules or anything else to ease us into new environment, esp. after we told him it’s our first time here. He also made zero acknowledgement of the fact that we’re celebrating a major milestone. We managed to read through the menu is the dark and order 2 drinks: a very plain cucumber margarita that had zero flavor and a smoked old fashion. When the drinks were brought to the table the server ripped the top of the cloche and walked away causing all the smoke to blow into my wife’s face instead of gently floating above my drink as it supposed to be. And as I watched another server properly do to a pair of male customers that were sitting near bookshelves area. Then things got even more bizarre as the server came back demanding an order to be put in and when we told him that we want to start with just appetizers he only then mentioned the “restaurant rules” of having to order everything at once. It took us a minute to digest these news as this is something I must say I never experienced at any places dining around the world unless it was all part of the unique experience. Since we weren’t giving any choice we settled on just ordering the apps. Well that apparently didn’t sit well with the manager of the place -Eric, who promptly arrived at our table, reiterated the “rules” and told us that if we’re not happy about it he’d gladly comp our drinks so we can call it a day as he needs to make room for other customers. Clearly we were not a priority customers for Eric or the server so we decided to cut our losses and leave as he suggested. In my nearly 50 years of existence I must say I’ve never been treated with such disrespect and discrimination being 2 women just trying to enjoy special occasions.

The restaurant was selected because it is one of the few steakhouses that offer prime rib. A birthday dinner started out well, push the buzzer to have a panel in the door open to gain entry. Cute. Very small, but attractive place. Roomy comfortable booth. Offered sparkling and plain water. Very expensive creative drinks available. It was recommended that we split an appetizer, but we didn't - thankfully. The portion of Caesar salad was fine for one, but too small to split. Very pricy at $15. Unusual approach with large leaves you need to cut with a knife (prefer it torn before serving), prepared with panko bread crumbs and small bits of cheese. Taste was good, but prefer the original approach. We ordered the mashed potatoes, which were extremely smooth and tasty, but again, a much smaller serving than expected. The big disappointment was the prime rib. I had better meat at Boston Market. The large cut of meat was served in a deep dish filled with au jus (although it didn't have much flavor). They describe the cooking process as slow roasting, but I think it was more like steaming. It didn't have the right texture, nor did it have much flavor. It was approximately the right color, although I had to get out my cell phone flashlight to tell because the restaurant was so dark I had no idea. I couldn't see to cut off the fatty portions of the meat. I was very disappointed and didn't eat much. I didn't complain, but the waitress noticed. She did provide a slice of their very tasty chocolate layer cake gratis. I can't comment on their other steaks, just don't buy the prime rib and expect to pay $$$$ for small servings.

One of our worst dining experiences ever. This fancy speakeasy has no name on the door, just a gold plaque with a rose on it. You have to ring the doorbell when you arrive and a secret panel opens in the door for the host to speak through. I found it on a list of “cozy and romantic” restaurants with great reviews. It is very dark, with bookshelves, and mismatched vintage plates (which fit the décor I guess, but I would have expected something more minimal. It is very popular and by the time we made a reservation (on a Thursday night), the only available time was 8:45pm. This was already late for our preference, but we thought we’d try it since everyone raved about it. We arrived early at 8:30pm to see if our table was ready. They said it was not, and the people currently seated had just ordered dessert. They recommended we get a drink nearby and they would text us when the table was ready. We waited at our hotel lobby around the corner, thinking it wouldn’t be that long. We received a text at 9:06pm that said “Your table is now ready at Alpen Rose!” When we arrived a few minutes later, we rang the bell again, only for them to tell us it was still NOT ready. There was a rowdy party of 5 guys also at the door that were taken in before us. It was almost 9:30pm by the time we were seated. Starving, we ordered oysters Rockefeller. Being so late we asked if we could put in our entrée orders but was told that “the chef likes to course it out”. We were surprised by (who we assumed was) a manager bringing us a complimentary appetizer of tuna carpaccio, however I do not eat raw fish. She left with it and came back to ask if we would like shrimp cocktail instead (which my husband is allergic to). We imagine they were trying to make up for being late, but never asked our preference. She finally brought out a wedge salad, like it or not (which was good, even though I don’t eat bacon). It was very noisy and we were right on top of the people on either side of us – not romantic at all (the space is very small, seating maybe 40 people). The only good thing were the drinks (we had No. 3 and 21). Vegetables and starch sides do not come with the main dish, you must buy them separately (the asparagus was large but tender and tasty). I ordered the branzino, which she said would have some bones but were large and in almost every bite. We were shocked that my husband’s $56 filet was so tough it was hard to cut! Two small dessert bites showed up at the end of the meal, but they did not make up for the poor performance at this price point. We were seated next to the noisy guys who came before us, so in the end we tried to make the best of it, joking and trading photos with them and being entertained by their drinks covered with smoke, massive Tomahawk cavemen bone steaks, and flaming baked Alaska with a sparkler. Maybe at 50 we are older than the typical crowd, and now we know not to make a reservation that late (especially when the times are not honored), but a pricey establishment like this should know better how to space out their reservations. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone, even given the hype.

Fabulous !! It was wonderful ! 2 couples - started with the seafood tower ! Perfection - but so do not miss the bone marrow toast - we each had a little something different - cannot wait to come back !!!!

I was looking for a place to eat and saw some people buzzing at the door and a face appearing through a door panel like a speak-easy. I googled the address and found out it was a steakhouse with an designed with architecture of an old wooden library. I loved the ambiance and the food + service was amazing. Got the beet salad, side of brocoli and rib-eye and it was very very good. The meat was aged 28 days and was cooked perfectly. Love the concept of the menu, entrance and design.
There are much better choices for a 300 meal.
First time here, won’t be back. Dry aged is the house specialty and they didn’t get it right. I ordered the dry aged rib eye medium rare. First time out, the meat was a true medium. With appropriate apologies, they cooked another. This came out a true medium rare. However, there was so much char on the meat, I could not taste the subtle taste of a $78 piece of meat. Okay, not happy, but we wouldn’t come back. We were offered a free dessert. Now, at the table adjacent to us, the couple ordered a filet medium rare. Theirs too came out grey. And, like ours, the char was so heavy they said it over-powered the taste of the meat. Finally, our complimentary dessert. It’s prime peach time and they had warm peach pie with ice cream. It had a huge puff pastry crust that had no flavor. And worse, the peach cubes were cold, hard and tasteless. In the middle of peach season. Top all this off with tables so close together that when the server was pouring our neighbors wine, their ass was right in my face. Literally, right there. The only redeeming feature was the cocktails and whisky list. This was our third try of restaurants in this chain. Thy Mary and Pearl Oyster House was okay, but The Oyster House is much better. The Giusseppe restaurant was average; Villa Di Roma is a better choice. And Barkley Prime far outshines Alpen Rose.
