Not worth the food - Horribly noisy

By M S |

Expensive and poor cooking and even work portions sizes even for tapas. We were a relatively large group, there was only a couple of us who could be eating at a given time. The serving timing is absolutely horrible. Hot items were brought cold and the entrecôte was not only cold on arrival but still mowing. The patatas bravas were not even close at what they really are, the were the contrary in texture to the real ones. They were sort of soufflé instead of being very crispy on the outside, and the seasoning was not what goes on those potatoes. The same with the octopus, pulpo, the grilled pulpo in Malaga and other places in Andalusia is grilled to perfection, in one piece, and incredibly well seasoned. The creamy stuff they put in the scarce number of slices of pulpo made it impossible to even taste the meat. Overall, nice presentation to make you feel like you are getting real food while giving poorly cooked and “creative” seasoning that resembles nothing to aa culinary experience in Spain. They are constantly accosting the table trying to remove dishes and other items, that constant intrusion is definitely unpleasant and not spaniard at all. The prices are awful for the quality and the quantity. Never again for me.

One of my favorite spots in Philadelphia

Every time I come I leave so happy with what I tried. The sangria is amazing. The location is great and the staff are very kind.

Pass your way

Too expensive, not good!! They are American tapas, has little to do with Spanish tapas. I don't advise at all.

Brunch at Amada is amazing!

By susyp2010 |

Brunch at Amada is amazing! I cannot speak highly enough to our dining experience at Amada. We went in with no expectations and ended up being blown away with how wonderful the food and service were. I first have to recognize the service !! our waitress was very Knowledgeable and helped guide us towards selecting the combo for the brunch so we could experience the various tapas selections on the menu. However, The star to our day was Jenny Kang the service manager . She checked on how we were doing and genuinely cared about our thoughts about the food, the quality and more . She was first rate; truly customer service oriented and a professional who went above and beyond to make our dining experience 11 out of 10. This restaurant group is very lucky to have a person like this as we will definitely come back due to her. Now about the food, the avocado toast was so flavorful. The bread basket provides a wonderful sweet assortment from croissants to cake-like bread. The fig cherry jam was a great complement it on top . I loved the crabs Benedict, which was prepared & season perfectly. My chef fiancé Who is classically trained also enjoyed everything we ordered. He recommends the hamburger as it was flavorful and a classic w a twist. As part of the combo we were able to try other items, Which included the ham croquettes - which melt in your mouth. The potato Rosti (was a crisp browned shredded potato pancake) that was cooked to perfection and the smoked bacon. As this was the birthday celebration we enjoyed the white chocolate ice cream and Chocolate mouse cream puffs (wow)! I really need to go visit this restaurant as we highly recommend it for lunch, brunch, or dinner!!

We stopped here while walking around Philly. Was lured in by the tinto de verano as I enjoyed that in Spain. Unfortunately not like Spain, a bit of a weak sangria. Service was fine. There was no one there at the time of day we visited so expected a bit more follow-through on service. Asked for a table outside. Was told that someone with a dog was on their way and reserved the table. We were seated by the window for over an hour. The customer with the dog never showed up and the outside table on a beautiful day went empty.

Very good business dinner.

By Greg P |

The food and ambience were excellent! We had a business meeting of about 11 people. All of the options were great. The service was also excellent. MMy two gripes - no Paella on the tasting menu! That was a big surprise. Second, it did not feel like there was a heavy main dish type tapa. It felt like mostly appetizer dishes.

Lamb!

By Marc B |

They squeezed us in for an early dinner. Lamb chops, scallops, mushrooms and octopus plus a pitcher of Sangria. $50/person, but we'll worth it. My wife thoroughly enjoyed it: great service, casual atmosphere, and very good food. It might be considered pricey by some, but I thought it was worth it.

Terrific flavors!!

By Victoria B |

Our server was attentive and the food was just outstanding! We had the chefs tasting menu along with the wine tasting and everything paired perfectly. We can’t wait to come back!

Great tapas and great selection

By Wickie_carroll |

My wife and I had dinner here. We did a variety of tapas and all were good. Service was excellent. If you enjoy a tapas restaurant, I would recommend Amanda if you are in the area.

AMAZING!

By TheAdventureLens |

Ate here in November 2018. If you want to have a sample of Spanish cuisine on this side of the world I highly recommend Amada. I felt like I was back in Barcelona when we sat at the bar. We came for Happy Hour and stayed for dinner. The Paella was fantastic!

Great tapas

By Daniel E |

The food was delicious!!! Every plate we took was great. The service was on point but maybe a bit too fast for my liking. Not too pricy. I would strongly recommend.

Amazing!

By Sylvia M |

This is the best of the best if you want to eat a variety of delicious food. All the tapas were amazing and you much order the seafood paella. There is only a limited amount per day, so definitely order ahead! I went to Spain a few months later and I truly thought the food was just like Amada!!!

Delightfully Plentiful!

By John L |

From the delicious rolls, cornbread and croissants to the Flavored bacon Amada consistently delivers great food and a multitude of flavors. Perfect mimosa’s, attentive friendly service staff and warm atmosphere bring a delicious meal to a wonderful Mother’s Day memory! Pancakes, French Toast, Crab Benedict and pork Milanese Panini were each better than the other. We couldn’t ask for a better meal and the portions were Large and filling!!!

Excellent Food

By Traveller Devon |

Wonderful Spanish food - some of the best we have ever eaten. The presentation of the food also elevated it to another level. One minor point was that we visited on a Sunday evening - and should have been offered a specials menu (which I believe was a little cheaper). We would probably have stayed with the a la carte menu - but it would have been nice to be given the choice.

Go with the Tasting Menu!

By brianmoran42 |

This is the second time my wife and I had dinner at Amada, and we will definitely come back when we are in Philly again. Very nice staff and our waiter suggested the tasting menu (which we had the first time we ate there). It is a LOT of food! They brought out salads, shrimp with garlic, kabobs, bacon-wrapped dates and more. Each dish was awesome. We sat at a 4-person high-top table in the bar area both times and would go back there tomorrow. Love Amada!

Food vs Service

By nettlebayguy |

While we had experiences Amada in AC and were always quite impresses with the food and the service, this was not the case in phyllie. 1) Food was good, we had the paella BUT The one AC was better BUT the service was not 1) None of the waiters seen to be happy to be there 2) The drink was watered down and when ask for less ice, the drink came back without it but also with less drink 3) When desert came around, we did not feel that we were wanted there. 4) We had valet parked with the restaurant ($21) but the waiter thought when we gave him the ticket that we wanted to leave right away so he called the car. But the attendant told uscwe could pay inside. Waiter had no idea. So he added the valet charge to the bill. After a 20 m wait outside we decide to seat on the outdoor chair which broke because rusted...

Good Tapas restarant

Had lunch here recently. Food was good , but the small plates were really very small considering the prices.

Amazing tapas and fab service

By PoolLovinFoodies |

We had a wonderful date night at Amada! Although we know our way around a tapas menu, we went with the chef’s tasting menu. A phenomenal choice - everything was exceptionally flavorful and the meal was extremely well paced. The service was excellent and the atmosphere was lively but not so overwhelmingly loud that you couldn’t carry a conversation. They took note of my reservation comment about celebrating a birthday and added a special touch to dessert. We wholeheartedly recommend Amada for amazing tapas in Philly!

Good food, very friendly staff

By Ria A |

I liked the idea of tapas! The food is very good, very beautiful presented and our waiter was extremely knowledgeably, attentive and quick!

Right next to the Museum of the American Revolution

By Jonnyjetprop |

Outstanding find close to the Museum of the American Revolution. The food was very good. The meat and cheese platter was generous in size. My wife ordered a hamburger that we cut in two and shared. The specialty gin and tonic was refreshing with the warm day.

Excellent tapas restaurant

By Eva T |

We were lucky to get a table for two there as we were told usually you need a table reservation. Our table was near to the entry where was metal big pig on the cabinet. To drink we chose cocktails Spanish Mojito (USD 12) and Seville Sour (USD 14) - both very good. Then we had Patatas Bravas - spiced potato (USD 9), Bruselas Catalara - Brussels sprouts with apple and pine nuts (USD 11), Pinchos Morunos - marinated beef skewers and grilled lemon (USD 15), chorizo Soria (USD 10), Murcia al Vino - goat cheese soaked in vine with cherry-fig marmalade, apple and bread (USD 11). And my husband ordered also dessert Tarta da Queso - cheesecake with balsamic strawberries (USD 10). Everything was excellent and very tasty and Rivera who served us was very helpful with our choice. In total with tax we paid nearly 100 dollars, a bit more than we planned to spend but we didn't mind as we totally enjoyed out visit there.

Not quite up to expectation

By Eero I |

Visiting Philadelphia I looked for a nice restaurant in the neighbourhood. Amada came up in Tripadvisor and was close so the decision was easy. The house was fairly full but I got a table right away. I was not very hungry and chose gambas and calamari, with a glass of rioja reserva. The gambas were nice and piping hot but the gambas disappointing, a bit tough and not very hot. They might have waited too long after the grill. The rioja was excellent, as befitts the price ... The service was friendly and attentive. Card payment with a signature confirmation and not a pin number is to me old-fashioned.

Great tapas

By 280735 |

Chef de cuisine Joe spent great time with us for dinner. Excellent server Katie made the visit along with the craft cocktails and wonderful squid ink paella.

Great tapas, tasty drinks and excellent service!!

By Adam W |

Highly recommend this place for happy hour drinks and food!! Excellent tapas! Tasty sangria (lots more drink options too). Exceptional service. Our server, Gina, went out of her way to find recommendations for places to visit in Philadelphia. We’re from Wales, UK and would definitely return. 10/10 experience.

Wonderful experience

By virginiatraveler024 |

Really amazing experience. We took our family (with elementary/middle school children) as part of our vacation to give them a chance to experience different cuisine. This is a very nice restaurant, but no one made us feel like our kids were out of place (they are very well behaved, but young). We ordered a mix of tapas and some main dishes and the chef sent out an additional tapas item (shrimp for us to try). We had different favorites, but everything was very good. The date wrapped bacon dish is amazing. For adults in the party, definitely consider trying the sangria.

Amazing experience for Restaurant Week

By tina |

Heard about this place from a friend and then restaurant week came out! I really wanted to try this place and it was definitely worth it. We made reservations for lunch and didn't have to wait long for our table! We had the manchego cheese and gambas al ajillo. The cheese went so well with the honey! It was so tasty! The gambas al ajillo was so delicious! The shrimp was great and the sauce we kept to the end! The patatas bravas were amazing! We asked for more sauce on the side!! The bowl was really good! The entrecôte was nice and tender! So juicy! The piquillos rellenos was good as well! That cheesecake really hit the spot! I also enjoyed my rose gold drink! Definitely be back after restaurant week to try some of the other goodies! Service was excellent.

Viva España! Delicious food and drink.

By JBH814 |

This Spanish restaurant is wonderful. We took advantage of their happy hour recently. Attentive bar tenders kept the five dollar sangria (white, red, or rose!) coming. The tapas also cost five dollars and were delicious. There were three of us and we had a fulfilling dinner from the five dollar happy hour menu. We can't attest to their dinner service, but if the happy hour offerings were any indication, it must be amazing.

Disappointing, stingy and expensive

By SingularGirl |

Last night I went out to dinner at Amada with two friends, hoping to reprise the wonderful culinary experiences I had in Barcelona a few weeks ago, eating tapas and hanging out drinking Spanish wine and enjoying the inviting vibe. I have been to Amada once about 8 years ago and found it officious and self-important. Somethings change and somethings remain the same: I left 3 hours later still ravenously hungry and out of pocket nearly $300. Something is wrong with this picture. The food IS delicious and well curated, but portions are so microscopically tiny—an order of manchego cheese equals three teeny paper-thin triangular wedges, lamb meatballs had six tiny (albeit rich and sumptuous) meatballs with sauce—that we remained starved the entire time despite ordering at least 15 dishes. The only dish that was somewhat sizable for sharing was a lovely arugula salad. Wide expanses of time passed in between waiter visits because we were in the back room and likely forgotten like flotsam and jetsam tossed up on a lonely shoreline. Toward the end of the evening the waiter asked us if we would move to a nearby table to accommodate a group of 11 young men who were stopping in presumably from a local fraternity. We moved, I paid, and on the way home I stopped at a late night diner to eat a large cheese omelet, feeling fed at least. The moral of the story: Amada remains too precious and pricey for its own good. Skip the $300 charitable contribution and eat at The Bourse food court; at least you can get your food while you still want it.

Chef Tasting Was Amazing

By Kim B |

I went to Amada for the first time. We started at the bar for cocktails. I had the Tie Me Up... craft cocktail. It was refreshing and delicious. I stopped at one because we had the signature sangria with our dinner. We opted for the chef tasting. They were accommodating with food allergies. Each course was outstanding!! It was a fantastic way to experience the menu. The sangria was the best I’ve ever had. We enjoyed 2 pitchers with dinner- there were 4 of us! Services was extraordinary. We needed to move our reservation for a delayed tour. The reservation staff was understanding and accommodated is with a later seating. I am excited to try another Garces dining experience ...soon!

Fabulous food

By JenLavin |

Went here for New Years Eve. They had a pre fixed tapas menu that was out of this world. We also did the wine pairing with each course. Just before midnight the staff handed out noise makers and party hats to ring in the new year. We had such a great time and enjoyed the food immensely. Will be back.

Decidedly Average

By robert lee |

I had high expectations based upon the reviews, but the six tapas and four wines that we tried were disappointing. Some of the tapas seemed pre-cooked, and none could compare to what you find in every town in Spain (at a fraction of the cost of Amada). The best of the bunch was the octopus. The shrimp had a tasty sauce but the shrimp themselves were bland. The lamb meatballs had too much paprika and not much lamb taste. The wine tasting had three reds and a cava that are best described as table wines. This did not feel like an authentic Spanish experience. I will say that the service was good.

Excellent Meal!!

By Bob H |

Excellent dinner this evening! We debated ordering from the regular menu, but decided on the Chef's Pairing menu-- this seems to take a lot of guess work out and provide a nice sampling of all of the food in the restaurant. We chose the pairing at $75 per person. Let me just say, go hungry! This is a lot of food to consume! While the portions may not look big, I think we had like 7 or 8 different plates brought out to us. It was an extremely large amount of food. Everything was delicious and fresh and served expeditiously. I would definitely recommend. Highlight of the food served were the lamb chops! Really great.

Nice dinner option

By Sarah L |

We were looking for a restaurant to accommodate a group of 8 at the last minutes. The wait staff were attentive.

Happy Hour

By 2TravelLuvers |

We stopped in just before happy hour ended. We ordered tapas and drinks. Everything was excellent. I had the Chorizo Bilbao. My wife had the Aged Manchego Montadito. Our oldest had the Pan Con Tomate. The happy hour prices were just as good as the food and drinks. Both bartenders were excellent as well. Will definitely return.

Lovely and cozy tapas restaurant to enjoy

By cgpabon01 |

We had a very nice experience when decided to go inn to this small Tapas place while walking around Philadelphia Downtown Market street . We went inn just to try what was in their tapas menu…and we had such a nice experience, that we lamented we found this place just the day before we left Philadelphia. Food was delicious, professional service and high quality food served. Prices are reasonable for what is delivered. We did enjoyed the food and the night. This is a must go back restaurant next time around.

Favourite in Philly

Had a fabulous Mothers Day brunch and the service was Excellent ! This was my favourite place we ate while in Philly

Tapas uniquely served.

By DrLove2010 |

If you're looking for a tapas restaurant, Amada should be at the top of your list. Unique flavors and beautifully and timely served. Service is professional -- no rush...minimum to no wait between courses. Great Sangria! No bright lights. One on one conversation is not interfered with over relatively minor background noise. Impressive wine list also holds some great values.

Love Small Plates

By queenbeesneko |

We are older and I love tapas because if you order half to two thirds what your server recommends, you might have room for dessert This is a casual and comfortable restaurant with excellent service and very good food. The music was up when we arrived at the end of the cocktail hour. I wish they had turned it down. It was hard to hear each other and were not hard of hearing yet. The young men at the next table were nearly shouting also but not because they were rowdy. I wish we had had room for dessert; they looked really interesting.

Delightful evening of tapas and wine

By Greg W |

Beautiful Spanish restaurant in the historic area of downtown Philly. We sampled the cheese, empanada, croquetas, shrimp in garlic and the chicken brochette. All were excellent. Received excellent wine advice from the general manager. Suggest sitting at the bar or a table in the bar for the best ambiance.

Amazing Chef’s Selection Dining Experience

By TravelinFan |

Girl’s weekend included dinner at Amada and it didn’t disappoint. By far our best meal of the weekend. We did the chef’s selection and were treated to So. Much. Food. It was all delicious! Cheese, lamb meatballs, anchovies, pork, shrimp, and more! It was so delicious and is a dining experience that is not to be missed. The chef even did a great job accommodating a food allergy. We will be back for more delicious food!

Excellent food and a wonderful time, a great experience

By RichC250 |

Whether for a few drinks at the bar or tapas at the tables Amada never fails. Wonderful service by knowledgeable floor servers. Friendly folks at every turn. In true spirit it is best to order several different plates and share the flavors with the rest of your dinner party.Good assortment of wines and sherries to choose from. I'll call the prices mid-range but you can spend more on entrees if you wish. Quality trumps price everytime.

Delicious and romantic

By kmq2000 |

This is one of favorite restaurants in Philly. Any time we make the trip we make sure to reserve a table. Knowing that everything on the menu is delicious, decided to give over control of the menu and go with “La Mesa de Jose” which is the chef’s selection. Oh my God. It was so delicious and so many different small plates. Make sure you are hungry.

Good

By AnaS16 |

I made a reservation for a party of 3 and I was told that they only had me for a party of 2. But they got us a table anyway. This place is smaller than the one in Atlantic City. The service is good the food is great. Definitely a good place to try when you’re in Philly.

Great value, good food, nice room to eat in

By Anthony C |

Terrific selection of small plates busting with taste.Good cocktail selection and great service.Shrimp was terrific, nice menu very different

Good service, nice place but not authentic Spanish food

By Lili C |

If you have never tried authentic Spanish food this place is a good option, otherwise, it's better to keep your hopes low.

Great Tapas Place in Philly!

By M. Ordonez |

We were visiting Philadelphia during MLK’s weekend and wanted a special restaurant for one of our dinners. We saw Amada’s reviews and decided to try it. We really enjoyed our dinner, for a fix price you have a great choice of tapas, all of them delicious, the patatas bravas, their manchego cheese, Spanish chorizo, grilled chicken, paella, are all amazing! And of course their Spanish wines are excellent. Look forward to going back next time we visit Philadelphia!

Awesome

By NisaThai |

Our second time here for a quick bite. Sat at the bar and it was great. We ordered two garlic shrimp dishes and shared a salad. Perfectly balanced. We will definitely have to make it happen again soon.

Fresh and flavorful

By greenthumbr |

We enjoyed a relaxing lunch at this traditional tapas place near the Liberty Bell attractions. We started with a cheese, honey and apple trio that’s fresh and delicious. The salad recommended by our waiter did not disappoint. The light dressing perfectly set off the crisp lettuce, crunchy green beans and avocados. The ham croquettes and stuffed peppers were hot and tasty. A wonderful place to take a delicious break in Philadelphia.

Our best meal in Philadelphia

By TorontoMac |

We very much enjoyed our meal here. We opted for the $45 tasting menu and were not disappointed. There were 4 starters: Manchego (truffled lavender honey), Tortilla Espanola (salsa brava and chistorra sausage), Croquetas de Jamon (ham croquettes, rmesco), and Ensalada Verde (green salad, asparagus, favas, avocado, green beans). All were good, but the latter two were outstanding! This was followed by 4 seconds: Pernil (roasted pork, white beans, arugula, orange), Gambas a la Planxa (jumbo prawns), Arroz Temporado (wild mushroom rice, English peas, manchego), and Brussels Sprouts (lemon mint creme fraiche, golden raisins, pistachio crumble). Again, all were very good; the roasted pork portions were generous and the Brussels sprouts exceptional. The dessert was Chocolate Cream Puffs (dark chocolate cream). We were so full that we had to take 2 of the four home! The service was very good.

Tasty tapas

By j1000000 |

Located right near the Liberty Bell a d several hotels. Nice selection of tapas and Spanish wine. Friendly efficient service. Very good grilled octopus.

Graduation Lunch - Superb!

By S M |

Our group had a wonderful graduation celebration lunch. We were treated to glasses of a delicious prosecco to toast the graduate. Appetizers aka tapas were attractively plated. Entrees were delicious. Mixed drinks were great. We all had desserts which were outstanding. Waitstaff was excellent. Everyone at the table enjoyed their meal. Loved the decor, acoustic guitar music. We had never tried Spanish cuisine, we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves - we'll be back!!

Great Tapas

By John M |

Great dinner with family. We had a selection of about 8 tapas. And a bottle of Chardonnay. Everything we had was amazing, and although I can't remember the name of any of them, none disappointed. I do wish we had more time for our meal, but before we had made dinner plans we had booked another event. I say that only to say make sure you allow enough time to really savor the experience.

Nice lunch spot

By Reesq |

Had two really good Tempranillos on the wine list. Did a soup and salad combination the white bean stew and the jamon salad. Both really tasty with large portions! Would definitely go back, hopefully next time for dinner!

Spectacular

By Norman A |

We had a wonderful time at Amada Friday night the food and service were well done. Edwin our waiter was helpful with suggestions and explained the menu. Then coursed our selections perfectly. Several new dishes on the menu our favorite-the Eggplant was delicious.

Amada chef's sampler

By chrisab1959 |

Restaurant has excellent food. Drinks were great also. Go hungry if you want the chef's sampler. We were not able to finish everything

Wonderful small plates.

By Momma_J_StL |

Visited Philadelphia during Center City Restaurant Week" -- special offer of 3 course meal. The Baked Goat Cheese and Hanger Steak small plates were particularly good. Cannot rave enough about the dessert options. 3 Sangria choices -- recommend the red version. Bartender and wait staff were attentive and friendly.

Great Spanish food

By Dottie L |

Amazing restaurant. The food was delicious. The service was really good and the food we ordered came out quick every time. We will definitely be back next time we are in Philly.

Once was Enough

By Antsgirl85 |

Expected better. As advertised, all small plates. One item on menu listed as Skewers, but only 1 skewer. Our favorite items were the lamb chops (2) , Skewer (1) and pork. Weird that we were not asked how we wanted meat cooked. Waiter was very nice, answered numerous questions about how to order. Other staff also all very pleasant. Make reservation, as they were packed. We were there on a Saturday evening. Main issue was just how LOUD this place was. Tables very close together. Our first table mates were practically screaming to each other to be heard. Ask for a high top in the bar area or counter overlooking kitchen,

Delicious food all around!

By kaudrey |

We had tapas, grilled meats and veggies. Everything was delicious and well made. We had a nice, reasonably priced bottle of rose to go with dinner. Service was very attentive and helpful - my husband is celiac and they have a g/f menu that was almost as extensive as the regular one. Highly recommended.

Phenomenal!

By Inspiration546303 |

The food, the service, the ambiance were all outstanding. The ham croquettes & rice were our favorites but everything was absolutely delicious. Will be back!

A wonderful find!

By Tonya F |

My son and I went to Amada the night he came into Philadelphia, largely because it was close and looked interesting. We were not disappointed! The food was beautifully presented and just as tasty as it was appealing. The service was attentive and courteous without being overbearing or intrusive. We were fortunate to sit with full view of the kitchen, and were fascinated by the care and attention that went into every plate that left - definitely a Philly go-to!

Top 5 restaurants in Phily

By Andres N |

Delicious food and great atmosphere, love this restaurant, highly recommend, their octopus is the BEST and you must order a Rose gold cocktail

Great meal; good value

By Motowners |

There was a recent, scathing review that moaned about the tiny portions. Another thought Amada was overpriced. Hmm. Three of us ordered 6 tapas and charcuterie , dessert, and one drink each. We were well sated and I thought the price was reasonable given the quality of the ingredients, the warm, convivial atmosphere, and the excellent service. There was a hiccup in the kitchen; a manager noticed it and fixed it quickly. Next time we are in Philly, we are likely to go back.

Delicious and so much fun!

By gerausswit |

Six of us ate here on a Saturday night in February. We had a great time! The food was simply delicious!! We all ordered plates to share and the plates came out 1 or 2 at a time as they were ready. We all enjoyed being able to taste so many great dishes. Cocktails were good and so was the service. Can't wait to go back!

Expected to be WOW!! -- NOT.

By Erik L |

This being an Iron Chef restaurant offering his specialty cuisine, we expected to enjoy a fabulous meal. Unfortunately that was not our experience. There is little ambiance and the noise level was very intrusive. The wine offerings are a cut above. The pacing of our spanish tapas was poor. They came out randomly sometimes two at a time. As for the food, it was hit or miss. The ensalada verde was very overdressed, the Chorizo Bilbao was tasty and the Pulpo (octopus) was very tough. This was a weeknight and not overly busy.

Liars and thieves

By Rolo |

Very liar people. They had a sign anouncing happy hour, then when we asked at the lady in the entrance about the happy hour she send us to the bar, at the end we we went to pay the said the were not happy hour that day and sent a lady to remove the sign and charged us a higher price.

By far the best Tapas I’ve eaten. My son and I went there for an early dinner before the Eagles v Giants game and we were blown away. The drinks, service, and food were all great. We will definitely go back next time we’re in Town.

Amor for Amada!!

By Epicurean Belletrist |

Amada is Chef Garces' iconic first restaurant. When searching for a romantic dinner location during our weekend away in Philadelphia, we searched no further than Amada. Entering the rustic industrial space one is immediately nestled in a warm and sexy ambiance. This tapas style restaurant offers a plethora of delicious bites expertly prepared and complemented by vast wine and cocktail selections . We chose The Estrella and Pain & Glory cocktails to start. The Estrella is a vodka based drink mixed with St. Germain, lemon, blueberry and finished with club soda. The P&G is a habanero tequila based drink blended with agave, lime and fresh apples. Both were a wonderful pairing with our tapas selections. We began with Gambas al Ajillo and the Bruselas Catalana. The shrimp were plump, perfectly cooked and steeped in a rich and flavorful garlic sauce that offered a slight hint of smoky heat. The Brussels were like none I have ever tried and probably the best I've ever had, and I am a frequent Brussels eater! They are enveloped in a Valdeon fondue then sprinkled with pine nuts and tart green apple. A marriage of flavors absolutely made in heaven! Last we culminated our meal with the Entrecote, a thinly sliced Wagyu Skirt Steak served with a bright and herbaceous chimichurri and a petite Salmon filet served with a Saffron Vinaigrette. The steak was beautifully marbled and the preparation highlighted the natural rich flavor of the meat. The salmon skin was seared to perfection and the filet was moist, juicy and seasoned to perfection. Overall, Amada is a MUST when in the Philly area. Chef Garces' first concept is truly first rate!! You will not be disappointed!!

Chef's tasting menu a very good value

By tankr |

Love this place. Went with friends to celebrate my sixtieth and it did not disappoint. Went with the chef's tasting menu with wine. Couldn't believe how much food kept coming. Two plates per item, with 3 items, times 3 courses, plus additional plates we requested. We were soooo full but still had room to share the amazing chocolate and olive oil ice cream. The wine pairings were very interesting and well explained. Service was impeccable as always. We were initially seated at an uncomfortable table in the window, but when we asked to be moved, we were immediately accommodated, with a nice table in the back room. Reservations a must and call early.

Restaurant Week

By JohnM192 |

Arrived at 11 on a Sunday morning with reservations and enjoyed a perfect experience for the next two hours. Restaurant week was a limited menu which was no issue. The dishes ordered came to the table delivered at a perfect pace. When one shared dish was finished, within minutes, another appeared. Service was spot on, food was wonderful, presentation perfect. The pitcher of sangria was the cherry on the cake. Sunday morning parking was easily available on Chestnut and Front. A great experience.

This was my first time here. I tried 5 different tapas. All of them were very good. The red sangria was great also. I look forward to going back.

Awesome FOOD

By NisaThai |

Amazing authentic Spanish cuisine! We dined here on Feb 6 for my husband birthday! Yasmine was our lovely waitress. She’s very attentive and helped made our dinner experience amazing. Couldn’t have picked a better place for a birthday dinner! Loved the atmosphere, the ambiance and FOOD! We will definitely visit this again!

Beautiful experience

By Lianna @thisworldmyview |

Old City is home to some of Philadelphia’s best restaurants, and Amada is no exception! I truly believe food should be an experience that broadens your senses and creates an environment for life to be shared around a table. 1- the service is absolute perfection, the professionalism from the hostess, to the bartender, to our server; every single one was inviting, informative, there when we needed them and discreet when conversation was taking place at our table. 2- the food; an experience all its own, the menu is filled with variety, flavor, and Amanda’s personal take on some beautiful classics. The tapas style menu allows for you to fully enjoy a wide range of dishes; while the drinks and wine are a perfect accompaniment. If you are looking for a restaurant for a date, a group of friends, or a large evening with family; I highly recommend Amada. Reservations are a must, and you can usually find street parking near by or there are nearby garages if you prefer.

Small Plates - Spanish Influence

Stopped in and was surprised. Great food and wines from Spain. The Bacon & Dates were wonderful, as well as the scallops.

Wonderful meal in beautiful space

By Matt S |

What a wonderful experience at Amada! The restaurant itself is in a beautiful space; an old building (as is the case for this area of the city), with a focus on the brickwork but contemporary wood work. I really enjoyed the inside and the atmosphere. It was busy when we were here on a Wednesday evening. We sat at the dining "bar" area, and had a great view of watching staff prepare a lot of the desserts. There were two of us, and we ordered about six different tapas dishes. They were all excellent; fresh, and very tasty! There was something for everything on the tapas menu; meat, vegetarian, seafood....there was definitely quite the variety! We capped it off with a great bottle of red wine from an expansive wine list. Our server was excellent; very friendly, working hard in the crowd, and coming up with some excellent recommendations for us. Overall, this was an excellent experience.

Their food is a labor of love!! The detail in the presentation, Wow!

By Karen S |

The tapas were exceptional. The presentation was one of the most creative things I have seen. Sangria was exceptional too. friendly atmosphere, great service

Enjoyed the food here

By mishkanazapade |

We enjoyed our experience in this tapas restaurant. Food was delicious, the service was excellent, the arrival of the dishes was well-timed.

Amada 1/20

By Ami Anuma |

Though it took a little while to get our group served, the food was very good and at a reasonable price for Restaurant Week.

Wonderful....just about everything

By AndreaZNy |

It's been several years since I've had tapas, and visited Amada's while visiting my son in Philly. It was a beautiful evening, so we sat outside and had 6 tapas, including patatas bravas, grilled calamari, octopus Galicia, shortrib flatbread, wild mushroom rice, crab stuffed peppers, and my son finished with their version of Cheesecake. The patatas bravas was different than any other version I've tried, and while I love the more typical dish, I equally loved this new version . Picture fairly large potato nuggets, crunchy on the outside and surrounded with paprika, and topped with a paprika aioli -- wonderful. I wish I had taken a picture. The octopus was very tasty, but the octopus itself was a little tough. The calamari was equally tasty, but not tough at all. The short rib flatbread was perfect -- flatbread grilled well, short rib topping tasty, along with the other fixings. The red wine glass of Sangria was very nice. The crab meat stuffed pepper was cheesy, gooey, and very tasty. The wild rice "risotto", while tasty, was not really anything special, so probably wouldn't get that again. And my son seemed to enjoy the cheesecake; while the cake was a bit bland, the purple plum side topping and graham cracker crumbs were good additions to help complete the dish. Whenever I return to Philly, I will definitely return to Amada..

Excellent & Authentic

By sitkad |

The food is very authentic. Would say more Northern Spain. Excellent quality & service. Would recommend reservations as it is very popular for good reason.

Great Anniversary Dinner

By emptynester |

Concierge at Hotel Monaco got us a last minute reservation at the chef's table. It was our first time at this restaurant and it was the start of restaurant week. We really loved the drinks, food, service and ambiance! We were greeted by the restaurant manager who said the concierge had called for us. He was super nice and even brought us a complimentary appetizer because it was our anniversary! The food was amazing and because of restaurant week we were able to sample alot of the food for a very reasonable price! We will definitely be back and even though they were busy they all made you feel relaxed and well cared for! Kudos to Amada!!

Great! Fantastic! Wonderful!

By beanobob |

We did not have a reservation for Mother's Day because my son surprised us at the last minute. Went to Amada when they opened at 10:30 AM on Mother's Day and they were going to seat us at the chef's table, but they had a cancellation and we were able to sit at a table for four. They were very accommodating and good customer service. Rusty was our server (there were mimosa's for moms). Rusty gave us an overview of the menu and the Chef's tasting menu. Let me say they did not overcharge because of Mother's Day or change their menu prices. Rusty suggested we each try something different to share. We had the Ensalada Verde; and Smoked Salmon as our first choice; Crab benedict; Chorizo and Tortilla Francesa as a second choice with Smoked Bacon; seasonal wild mushrooms. we also ordered two of the specials one was eggs with pork shoulder and one was poached egg with polenta. Portions were more than enough to share (there were 4 of us) and we left being very satisfied with the food; service and overall ambiance. We were not rushed; food came out as it was prepared and I would wholeheartedly recommend for brunch. We have been there before on a regular Sunday with the same great service, but you could tell they were prepared for the number of reservations. Our service was top notch. I would like to go back for the Chef's Tasting Menu (PS we drove over an hour to go to Amada).

Average at best

By johnB3518QY |

I was here a year ago and it was very good! However this time I took my family of 5 for a going away party, the food was good but the service was awful. They forgot a drink, we asked them for bread 4 times before we got it, the waitress did not come back to check on us very often and we she came back for desert she basically threw the utensils at us. It is very expensive and I felt it was not worth nearly as much as I paid for dinner. I would not go back.

Great Solo Visit

By ak_1357 |

If you're dining alone (or with friends), Amada is a great place to eat. As a female who travels alone on business, I am always trying to find good food where I feel comfortable and welcome. This is one of those places. Sat at the bar overlooking the kitchen, had a great waiter with good recommendations, and the food was on point. Will go back.. Even if dining alone.

Delicious tapas!

By Susan M |

Really enjoyed our first visit to Amada for tapas after theater. Interesting selection, good beer and drinks, pleasant atmosphere although I can imagine that it can be rather noisy. Will definitely try again when we are back in Philadelphia.

Good tapas for a Sunday brunch

By Waynegourmet |

We had Bloody Marys and tapas for a Sunday Brunch. Nor brilliant but a good solid meal with good service. Twas before the Eagles game and the place was full of fans wearing team colors

NO service so no food

By mferriswheel |

I am a pretty patient person and love Spanish food. But I was seated and never waited on. There were only 2 other tables so it wasn't that they were too busy. I was given a menu and ignored so I finally gave up.

Great selection of Spanish dishes

By yakherd |

Really distinctive dishes, such as the anchovies with pine nuts and the serrano ham with figs and greens. Downside - the noise level.

Great tapas

By Susan515796 |

Just for the record I am so tired of the small plate/tapas idea. But I’ll make an exception for this place. Keep in mind their plates are not that small. So glad we ordered just a few plates to start and added as needed. Roasted Cauliflower is a must have. Garlic shrimp as good and buttery. Now the salad we chose was the Ensalada De Jamon, OMG, wish I had taken a picture. Basically a really good salad wrapped in the best ham I’ve had outside if France. We were so full after that we couldn’t order any more. We were amazed that the younger couples around us had 5-7 plates to share. Everything looked so good.

Great lunch with friends

By ppatel807 |

We stopped here for lunch on a Saturday with 8 people (with a reservation). Food was great (vegetarian and otherwise). From a vegetarians perspective, the potatoes brava and the cheese plate were among our favorite. Some people in our group also did the brunch special

Succulent tapas

By Philippe B |

In Chestnut street, opposite the Museum of the American Revolution, a tapas restaurant. Fine and delicate. We chose: pulpo al ajillo, pimientos rellenos, patatas bravas, ham serrano, ham croquetas...

Excellent tapas restaurant in Philadelphia

Excellent Spanish tapas restaurant, with a wide variety of menu options, wonderful food, friendly service and reasonable prices.

Jose Garces does it again!!

Beautiful decor, service, great food and Spanish wines are delicious. Reservations are well-managed, servers knowledgeable.

Tapas in Philadelphia Old City

By Lisa S |

We were looking for a nice place for our last night in the old city. Amada had a great atmosphere and everything we ordered was delicious! If you visit weekdays from 4-6pm, you’ll be there during happy hours for $5 tapas and drinks. We had and highly recommend these tapas: bacon wrapped dates, tortilla, garlic shrimp and olives. Their creme brûlée was also some of the best I’ve ever had!

Exceptionally consistent restaurant

By bcasro5 |

The small plates were wonderful. The salad I always choose was terrific and all things were well above average. the only thing that was average were the desserts

Awesome tapas

By 49skeeter49 |

Tapas are my favorite anywhere in the world. I am lucky that some of the very best are at this establishment in my town. Superb and varied selection of tapas. From vegetarian to flatbreads to meats---- all flavorful with outstanding melding of flavors, textures and spices. Very comfortable atmosphere and excellent service.

Very good spot but expensive

By Sjwiden |

Very good spot but expensive for the portion sizes. We came here with a local and it was restaurant week so we got to try a bunch of different items. The food was solid, service was good, but getting drinks took way to long. Interesting celebrity airing of Jason Seagal from the Show How I meet your Mother was there.

Fantastic

By Shereejamisonharris |

Food is Amazing here. We shared three dishes. Shrimp, Chicken, and Brussel Sprouts. All 3 were delicious! Chef Jose came to our table to welcome us. Our waitress was fantastic with helping us decide. Great experience!

Great all round

By Phantom58 |

Great Tapas. Favorites were the Octopus and the Shrimp. Great ambience and service. Charcuterie board was excellent.

Authentic Tapas!

By Homero V |

A nice place for Tapas. A wide variety of the authentic Spanish Tapas, very well prepared. We ordered around 3 per person to share and they managed the order and timing of serving each plate. Excellent service and food!

Great Time

By Randolph L |

The plates here are tapas which is perfect because you get to try a lot of different dishes. Everything we ate was delicious. The dessert was a perfect ending to the meal. The atmosphere is a little loud for my taste but that just meant we had to lean into each other to be heard. The service was impeccable and what the waiter recommended didn't disappoint.

Excellent restaurant. Make reservations.

By NCVCo |

Although this great restaurant is conveniently right across the street from the Revolutionary War Museum, it is well worth a visit just for itself. My husband and I were fortunate enough to make it here on Restaurant Week and were able to take advantage of their special menu where we shared 8 tapas and 2 desserts! The dishes were all delicious as well as tastefully presented. Service was impeccable and our friendly waiter even gave us some sight-seeing recommendations. We hope to come back on our next visit to Philly.

Great food, service a bit spotty.

By ATLfoodie22 |

We had a reservation, but opted to eat at the bar, as the bar area was giving off better vibes than the main dining room (which seemed more brightly lit, with tables very close together). We loved the look of the bar area, and enjoyed sitting at the bar, but with only bartender serving a large bar and preparing all drinks for the entire restaurant, things seemed a bit overwhelmed at times. It took almost 40 minutes for us to get the bartender’s attention to order our food. As for the food, it was excellent. Highlights included the charcuterie and cheese board, iberico ham, and lamb ribs. We never did receive one of the dishes we ordered, and I’m not sure whether it was put into our order but overlooked by the kitchen , or perhaps overlooked by the bartender when putting in the order. Either way, mistakes happen. Overall a good meal and we would return.

No complaints

By DeniseReaves |

This place is amazing. The atmosphere is dark and romantic with tables large enough to accommodate multiple tapas. The menu is not stuffed with cookie cutter foods but is inventive with many vegetarian items. And the service, the service was fantastic. Not kid friendly (praise be), HIGHLY recommend

First Rate

By Bhenn2017 |

Totally lived up to its reputation. Building was beautiful in historic neighborhood. Staff was great and extremely knowledgable about menu. Food was outstanding. Has to be in the top five of Philly restaurants.

Good but not great

By fkher |

Had lunch at this acclaimed eatery and while it was good it was not great. The restaurant itself is fine and the service was good but I found the menu to be a little thin for choice. We had the shrimp and the chorizo to start. The shrimp was a little over the top with the basil however the chorizo reminded me of the bars in Madrid. I then had the tuna sandwich which was quite good. I felt a little disappointed in the menu but I see that the dinner menu is more expansive. I will try it again

Enjoy this WINNER!

By CrownJules |

Our party of four thoroughly enjoyed our dinner at Amada! We arrived during happy hour and ordered many of their tapas specials and sangrias-all were delicious, beautifully presented and very flavorful! We preferred their red wine sangria over the white, both full of fresh cut fruit, which we also ate. For dinner we shared two short rib flatbreads, which were incredibly delicious! We HIGHLY RECOMMEND this wonderful restaurant!

Big, big disappointment

By dmlikota |

Wife and I chose this place for dinner based on the reviews, but it seems that most of the reviewers do not know anything about Spanish food. Food was way below average and the taste of each dish was not even close to what Spanish food tastes like. Other Spanish restaurant “Oloroso” in Philly is SO much better, night and day difference between the two. Would recommend Oloroso anytime over this restaurant. If you’re new to Spanish food definitely go to Oloroso first then you can give this a try to see what I mean.

Amazing experience

By flynntk19 |

Wonderful ambience, dishes were creative, cooked to perfection with amazing presentations! Fantastic recommendations by knowledgeable staff - positive energy throughout our evening!

Nice tapas restaurant in Old City

By Bubba_da_Traveler1 |

Great selection of Spanish tapas. Right near our hotel, so it was a good call on a 97 degree day in Philly. Everything was fresh and well prepared.

Outstanding

By Norman A |

Amada’s tapas and wine list is a great any day of the week. I can usually grab a spot at the bar but love to be in the energy of the dinning room. Don’t miss this Jose Garces restaurant on your next trip to Philadelphia.

excellent brunch

By Bloch132 |

went here with 6 people for a brunch. Excellent food -- different twist (spanish) on typical brunch items. Great Bloody Marys as well.

Another great experience at Amada

By Beth_McD05 |

A few of us had gone up to the National Museum of American History in Philadelphia and we stopped at Amada for dinner. I have been several times, but it was both of my friends first time and I was so pleased that they enjoyed it as much as I do! All of Chef Garces's restaurants are good, but this was a perfect for us! Everyone enjoyed the tapas and the sangria with basil and strawberries. This is a great place for a date, for a dinner with friends, or for an adult celebration! Great food and great drinks!!

Small Plates; Big Flavor

By aliceann1 |

I had not been to a Tapas Restaurant prior to friends making this reservation at Amada; however, I will most definitely be returning. And, recommending the restaurant to others. Every plate was better than the next at this location and we enjoyed every dish thoroughly One couple was vegetarian and we were concerned about their choices. Unwarranted worry! They were able to order several dishes and were just as happy with their eggplant, empanadas, goat cheese cake, rice with truffles and tortilla as another couple was with their shrimp, octopus, ham and anchovies! Service was fine, albeit a bit slow given that it was a Saturday night. Sangria was good but somewhat weak---next time, I'll get a good glass of wine from their extensive list. Prices were fair and we were very happy with the experience.

LOVE LOVELOVE, this restaurant for the food, service and atmosphere

By Claire S |

Came to the restaurant during restaurant week with my sister. Two people with the fixed priced menu had a chance to try eight tapas. Both my sister and I enjoy every dish. The highlights were the salad with the Flava beans, the garlic shrimp and the lentil squash dish. The food was flavourful and unique. The service was friendly. For and incredibly busy evening the service never missed a beat. Dishes came on time, plates that were empty were removed and the waitress plus the servers were attentive.

Loved it!

By Rainmelk |

We took the full experience because everything looked good and we didn't want to waste too much time trying to decide what to eat. So for 65$, you get lots of plates that the chef decides and we were not disappointed. Good size plates and a fair number of variety. Plus, they have a good selection of wines and a great ambiance.

Tapas are still very good here.

By saturdaydiner |

We ate lunch outside during Restaurant week on a hot Friday afternoon. Four of us for lunch and for a very reasonable $20 each we shared about 16 tapas plus dessert. The food was plentiful, very nicely prepared and well paced. Our waitress was generally disinterested but competent and it was a fun step toward some normalcy.

Great spot !

By eva1994 |

Delicious and generous plate portions, We passed on the pig and paella, but were pleased with the great selections that our waitperson recommended. Bustling vibe, attentive staff, yummy sangria. We went on a Friday evening and were thankful to have a reservation.

Amada

By johnsondavidj |

We had the chef’s tasting menu. It was excellent and tailored to some of the things we were looking for. Excellent service. Would certainly return.

Great choice

By tinamarak |

Came for happy hour. Prices looked good and they were. Had a Sangria Blanco to start which was tasty and a $5 price point is hard to beat. Had the manchego and Spanish tortilla. Very yummy and perfect portions. The speciality drinks are very good. Had a perfect size dessert which was also very good. The bartender Joshua was very professional and friendly, offering suggestions.

First rate tapas, good vibe

By Mark D |

Some folks like tapas and others don't. For those who do, this is the kind of place you want to go. We had six or seven different dishes, and each one was superb (the one with crunchy pork skin really stood out). And dishes arrive quickly. The rose sangria was first rate. We definitely will return.

Great place to eat

By Khondker_Islam |

I was in a mood for something new. Most of the good restaurants are within 10 min away from my hotel. Due to unpredictable showers and wet footpath, I decided to take a cab. Going through Market st, 4th st and chestnut was a shot sweet ride. I made a reservation the day before. I got down at the door step of the restaurant. We were greeted by the Smily receptionist. It was noisy and decorated averagely. We were escorted to our reserved table. The waitress was very friendly and paid extra attention to our food restrictions and allergies. She also made some food recommendations based on our taste and expectations. The service was relatively fast based on the number of guests. We got two plates almost at the same time. There were lot of options to choose from. The portion size is small and the presentation was nice. The grilled octopus was tasty. It was full of flavor. The crab stuffed peppers was ok, love to have little spice in it. Lamb meatballs were delicious. The trout fish made my day. It was served with crispy skin and mild spices. Little disappointed with the size of lamb chops. It could be little bigger. We were too full to order dessert. The price is $$$. Otherwise it is a great place to have a fine meal.

Excellent food, good place for vegetarians too

By Ajaxtol |

Very much enjoyed our meal. Vegetarian dishes were some of the best. Baked cauliflower, patatas bravas, roasted goat cheese, all great. Also, white anchovies and crab stuffed peppers. A bit noisy, but not too bad. The service was great; no long waits between courses. We’ll go again

Wow amazing dinner

By bakersmandelivery |

My bf and I got a Last min reservation on a Sat night here and the food was incredible and service 2. My new favorite restaurant in old city

Good small bites place

By 1antonacci |

We visited Amada during Philly restaurant week so had a limited menu (although still a good selection) to choose from. Since there were 4 of us we were able to get a good selection of items. The food was all very good and presented well. We were concerned that the small portion sizes wouldn’t satiate us but at the conclusion our hunger was satisfied. The place was very loud and we had a hard time hearing the wait staff as they brought our dishes out but it appeared to be an energetic and lively crowd. Overall good experience, I’d like to return with my spouse and give the full menu a try.

Evening menu: hearty and tasty

By xerius13 |

Large Spanish establishment full as we passed You choose from around ten dishes each time: 2 first courses and 2 second courses then a dessert It's really nice, a bit expensive anyway (45 dollars excluding tax and tips)

Team building dinner

What a wonderful experience !! Authentic Spanish tapas !! Wonderful ambient , amazing food and friendly staff!!! If you are looking for an authentic tapas t restaurant this is the place to be !! Thank you so much for the wonderful experience . I highly recommend : chorizo, lamb meet ball and the roasted pork !!!

I love everything about Amada

By Teresa |

Amada is my ultimate favorite tapas-style dinner in the city! (My husband and I may have frequented the Atlantic City location many times, as well.) After dining at Tinto tonight (another restaurant by the talented Jose Garces) I have a new appreciation for the small plates at Amada. Tinto is larger portions, more like pintxos. I love everything about Spain - and Amada encompasses that for me.

Nice bar and restaurant

By GReyMaiden |

In Phili on business and a friend suggested Amada. Like the olde world bar, and enjoyed a great pale ale, but the tapas served with our drinks was not good. Unfair to judge the whole place on the basis of two plates but disappointing.

Pleasant surprise

By andrea g |

Ended up in this restaurant by accident and quite pleased we did. Excellent quality of the food, tapas and paella superb! The ambience is inviting and cozy. Highly recommend.

Eclectic menu with enough classic dishes. good bread basket too.

By Susan S |

Amada had enough non-brunch items for salad-loving me; but I ordered a bonifide brunch dish and I was glad I did. A melange of potatoes, avocado, vegetables, lovely sauce, greens, and 2 fried eggs. I wanted the eggs runny and they arrived runny. Space is nice, service good; they refilled my iced tea without asking, and the location is good too. I will be back.

Philly Restaurant Week 2018

By Julia9671 |

I went here for restaurant week and it was great! $35 menu for a lot of food (not including tax, tip, or drinks). Definitely get the rainbow trout and the garlic shrimp. And the egg cream dessert was fantastic. I would pass on the eggplant and the patatas bravas wasn't anything special. But everything else was fantastic!

What Happened?

By cdp73 |

For years Amada had been one of my restaurants... I'd dream about the delicious sangria (which didn't disappoint) and the wonderful tapas. We started with the meat and cheese plates ($17 each), and you can't really go wrong with those. We then ordered 4 tapas to start. The octopus and the bacon wrapped dates were delicious, however the garlic shrimp tasted more like lemon shrimp. I've had this many times before and have never had it with such an overpowering lemon flavor. The tortilla espanola was underwhelming. We then tried to order more food and then our waitress (who was nowhere to be found during our dinner) informed us that the kitchen was closed and we could only order dessert. What a huge disappointment... it would have been nice if she had told us this earlier. I even had a menu next to me because I indicated we were going to order more. Unfortunately this place has dropped off my favorites list.

AMAZING FOOD IN OLD TOWN

By Latoya B |

Spent the weekend in Penns Landing and met some people who told us about this place called Amada. We agreed to go and they made us a reservation. So we walked over to Old Town it was about 10 minutes from the Hilton Penns Landing. When we got there we met the owner, a very nice guy. He explain Amada is a Tapas restaurant (so it had small plates) and that the chef was an Iron Chef. I love good food so I was excited to experiece the food. So we ordered a few different things. The food was outstanding, So good I only took a picture of the appetizer. This was some of the best food I've ever had. I can't wait to go back.

Back to Barcelona

By DavidWashingtonpa |

Amazingly fun, noisy, lively taps bar in the style of what one would find in Spain. Can't say enough about the food and service. Everything was excellently prepared, with a knowledgeable staff able to answer any question. The experience took us back to our trip to Barcelona. Reservations are a must though.

Overpriced

By M P |

Food was average bordering on poor. Garlic shrimp tapas was 4 tiny shrimp In unimaginative garlic butter sauce. Crab dish likely had fake crab. Only 2 beers on tap. Lamb meatballs were some sort of sausage. Very crowded party atmosphere, bu I wouldn’t go for the food I’ve been to Barcelona and this didn’t come close to Catalan style tapas

Super food

By Loki_and_Odin |

Really enjoyed the meal at Amada. They have small and regular size plates but food tends to be served piecemeal in a tappas style. All food was Mediterranean wonderful. Loved the Spanish olive appetizer. Seafood was fresh, tender, cooked just right. Nice selection of wine and beers on tap. Prices are reasonable and in line with the quantity (small plate versus large plate). As the restaurant becomes full it can become a bit noisy. Service was good. Restaurant is not large and some tables you may find somewhat close to the kitchen activity. But don't be discouraged by these minor issues. The food makes it worth it.

Viva las tapas

By levermontois |

The restaurant is located in Old City so it's right near Liberty Bell and Independence Hall. The restaurant serves tapas so the waiter suggested we order 3 plates apiece which is what we did and it worked out just fine. All the food was excellent. We especially loved the lamb meatballs about which my partner said "I could eat these all night."

Late night tapas

By Holly A |

My husband and I stopped in for a late night app and drinks. The drink list is plentiful and they serve the full menu At the bar. We had the mixed cheese platter and artichoke flatbread. Everything was delicious. The atmosphere was dark, chic but not pretentious.

Extraordinary

By dustythoughts |

We came here because it was close to the water and we had an evening cruise, and we’re so glad we did! The food was utterly fantastic. The patatas bravas were delicious and had a smoky paprika flavor, the lamb meatballs were great, and the fried eggplant was unique. The restaurant is a bit loud, but it’s a trendy restaurant. The waitstaff were friendly, and the manager came over to see if we were enjoying our evening (we were).

Food was all over cooked and over seasoned

By Patrick |

Sent back 4 of 6 dishes of tapas. Stick with the pork dishes it is salty but still cooked appropriately

Wonderful, flavorful tapas

By rfenster5 |

This was a very nice, upscale place to enjoy some wonderful tapas. The atmosphere is nice and comfortable, and the service was quick. The flavors were great together and paired well with the wine. They forgot to tell us about the daily specials, and that left a bad taste in our mouths(figuratively). I would highly recommend, but ask about the specials!

Delicious small plates to share

By Visimom |

I enjoyed my meal at Amada. This is a tapas-style restaurant. It is fun to sample several small plates of food and share them. Service was good and the ambiance was warm and friendly.

Not what it used to be...

By LeenaI |

This had been one of my Philly favorites for years but we did not enjoy this last experience and will not be going back. The food was generally good but the portions were ridiculously small. The worst was the patatas bravas - instead of a bowl full of potato chunks, it was served as approx. 7-8 pieces of potatoes on a rectangular plate with sauce on top of each. The presentation was nice but that was not what we were expecting and certainly not how it had been served on previous occasions. Same thing with the Spanish octopus - small cut up pieces, leaving you wanting for more. Drinks tasted decent but had quite a bit of ice - so again, we felt short-changed. The service was quite fast and efficient but lacked warmth and personal attention. Overall, disappointed to say that it is no longer the special place that it used to be.

Terrific Tapas!

By travelerwayne1997 |

A local friend recommended we meet here, and we were delighted. Each dish was inventive and tasty. Noise level was moderate. Drinks were excellent!

Great Tapas

By Linda R |

Amada, one of Jose Garces’ restaurants, is one of my go-to places when I am in the Old City neighborhood of Philadelphia. The selections always feature fresh vegetables and herbs, locally sourced. The appetizers and entrees will never disappoint.

Amazing Hospitality!

By Lizzy S |

Went to Amada last night with a group of girls for my sister's bachelorette party and we had an AMAZING experience. The waitress did an awesome job giving us a rundown of how the menu worked and how many dishes per person she recommended. I can't have gluten and she told me what contained gluten, what was cross contaminated, and which dishes were safe. Every employee that brought food to us would then repeat whether things were cross contaminated/contained gluten which is SO helpful when you're sharing dishes and can't remember which was which! Also cannot say enough about the manager Rich. He gave us a round of champagne on the house and then an espresso martini for the bride at the end of the night! We would honestly go back just to see Rich again! Absolutely great service, great food, and great hospitality. We will be back!!

Flavorful lunch

By tripdokta |

Nice lunch at Amada. Not crowded at all on a weekday afternoon. Features Tapas, sandwiches and "bowls". The bowls are rice or farro with vegetables. You can add various proteins like chicken, shrimp, salmon, or lamb meatballs. We enjoyed the bowls (I had rice bowl with shrimp) and some Tapas, esp. the fried eggplant with a hint of honey.

Family time

By David V |

Amazing tapas, very authentic Spanish cuisine. Amazing Service, keep room for dessert, like everything else it’s amazing

AWESOME!

By Marco Hoesli |

This is just awesome! You have to visit this restaurant when you're in Philly. Great location, extremly good service and the food is incredible good. The kitchen crew is amazing... Everything we ordered was really really good. We will come back for a great time. This is definetly one of my #1 restaurants in the US ;)

Good brunch

By D B |

Went on a Saturday looking for lunch at 1:00 PM but there was only Brunch. nevertheless the menu had many options. We enjoyed the tapas as well as the more "breakfast"plates. The sangria was divine. The service could have been a little better though.

Dark interior, candlelit ambience - innovative food

By marcopolopaloalto |

Love the darker, more intimate decor and ambience here, and the food. We ordered lots of vegetarian tapas for the table that we shared. But for meat and fish lovers , it must be even better. It’s a great venue for that quiet couples dinner and a business dinner…. A special place. Hope you get Bob as your server.

Much better!

We decided to give Amada a second try after visiting when they had a limited menu (New Years Eve). SO much better once we could select from the full menu. Loved every dish and came away stuffed & satisfied. Very friendly staff catering to your needs and keeping the dishes coming with just the right timing. Highly recommended!!

Spanish Tapas at their Best!

The tapas are true to tapas you will find in Spain. The food took us back to our years living in Barcelona. We absolutely loved it and will return when we are next in Philadelphia. Our server was also excellent. A great evening!

Incredible food and experience

This is a tapas/small plate restaurant. I went here for a business dinner and we decided to order the chef tasting. The restaurant has a really cool vibe and the wine selection was a great mix. We aren’t that familiar with Spanish wines and asked our server for recommendations. We got a great red at a reasonable price and everyone agreed it was very good and would order it again. The chef tasting was incredible. They just kept bringing dishes that had complex and delicious flavors and my business partner, who was from Chicago said the flavors were at the top of his list of places he had been anywhere. I agree. The noise level in the main dining room is abuzz with excitement. If you want a quieter setting, ask for the back room. A terrific experience. Highly recommend.

A little slice of Spain in Philly

I spent a year living in southern Spain, and I crave the food from time to time. Amanda helps make me feel like I’m back, even if it’s just for a few hours

Another great happy hour destination.

This was our second stop on a happy hour tour of the old town area. The bartenders were quick with their service to all of the customers. I recommend an early start as the bar fills up fast.

restaurant does not honor reservation

By oscarrI970JT |

Restaurant offer a reservation for lunch at 2:15pm and upon arrival at 2:11pm we were informed the kitchen closes at 2:30 pm so; why give a reservation with a 15 minutes windows to order food?

Service and food fantastic

Our server was outstanding. She walked us through the tapas and made sure our evening was splendid. All the choices were grand. Zanahorius, Piquillos Rellenos, Pernil Asado were five star. Did I mention our server was fantastic. It was our anniversary and she comped up a bottle of wine my wife had. My fermosas were just right as well. Will go again when in Philadelphia. Dessert was great.

Great Start to Vacation

We stay at the PHL Marriott CourtYard the night before early flights and have dinner in Philadelphia center to start our vacation. Amanda is one of our fav places because parking is convenient, great food at great prices and professional serve. AND... they have great grilled octopus. Amanda met all of those expectations again. We arrived at our reservation time of 6:00 pm and were greeted and seated promptly. We ordered a nice bottle of Loureiro Vinho Verde while we studied the offerings. We decided on the grilled pulped, of course, and Potatas Bravas, which discovered us in Barcelona. Great start. Second round... Spanish Tortilla and Pinchos Morenos, grilled minced lamb on skewers. And Alina checked on us at just the right times, especially to fill our wine glasses. It was almost like we were starting our vacation in Lisbon or Barcelona. The only downside of Amanda is only having the two of us to share the delights.
