Wonderful, beautiful location, great service and atmosphere, but at a table of 8, none of the food was the least bit enjoyable. Not to mention so overpriced it's comical. So sorry to give this review, but step it up! Wines are wonderful.

It is hard to believe that this is just minutes away from downtown Portland. I'm already looking forward to visiting during the warmer months. We had a tasting and dinner. The staff was knowledgeable and actually provided recommendations (we all know that is hit or miss). The indoor space restaurant was filled with locals sitting at the bar talking to couples celebrating an occasion. It was near closing, so our waiter showed us the outdoor space and explained the events that they have during the year.

Great place to grab a good wine, a cheese platter and enjoy a good sunny day. Terrace tables are available, good selection of local wines,

The winery is located just outside of town and offers a gorgeous view. They are housed in a beautiful modern building and offer lots of seating both indoors and outdoors. We did the wine tasing and enjoyed good local wines. We did not taste the food so I can't comment on the food options. A nice stop of you're looking for a winery close to the city.

The comfy sofas, fire pit, and westward view are spectacular in good weather. The jazz music below the deck was just the right amount of ambiance. Between the high ceilings and rustling of dishes, inside was too loud for much table side conversations. Our server was friendly and attentive. We had the scallops and burger with a glass of wine. Both were good and paired with the outdoor seating made the evening enjoyable. We had a gift card which compelled us to give this restaurant a try. To make a reservation, you had to sign up for the wine membership which we will likely not use again. This is the place if you want outdoor seating or a wine tasting close to the city.

We came here in early afternoon with our friends, they have the social membership. This is "exclusive" to their members (social or wine or otherwise). The building is quite impressive with very airy ambience. The outdoor deck area is lovely, with sweeping view down the hill. Very lovely. We only wish they had large deck umbrellas for shade, we would have definitely chosen a table outdoor as it was a pleasant sunny day. Because we did not want to sit in full sun, we chose a nice table by the window. Spent the next 1.5 hours enjoying their wine tasting flight and summer duo options. Service was very friendly and efficient. Ended up buying some wines to take home. Got some small plates during their happy hours. Hopefully we will return to enjoy their restaurant.

Wow! The wine, the food, the service (Lauren was fabulous!) and the views were all wonderful! We had a few boards and various tastings and all were fantastic!! You must go!

I celebrated my 80th Birthday at Amaterra with seven adults. We ordered from the menu, and I can honestly say, “no one was disappointed with their choice”. I had the Oven-roasted Salmon with mixed bean minestrone, as did a few others – just so much flavor! Amaterra’s wines were enjoyed throughout the evening. Assorted mini desserts, instead of a B-day cake was a perfect way to end the meal. Thanks Chef! Also, the Table Service was excellent throughout the meal. Amaterra is elegant but comfortable – you will not be disappointed. MJ

As a member I’ve been to Amaterra many times. Last night (a Saturday with a 6pm reservation) might have been my last. The food as usual was very good. My issue was with our server Ashley. It began when my $23 Seven Hills 2 half pours arrived. The Cabernet was a much smaller pour than the Syrah. I mentioned this to her. She begrudgingly took it away, returned with no change. From there it was all snark. When dinner for two with only small plates and one bar order each exceeds $200, I expect better service and a full (half) glass of wine.

We were with friends who had received a gift certificate and we were all surprised that they were required to pay a $25 "membership" fee in order to use it. The host kept telling us that they should have know this: apparently the person buying the gift certificate was told and the information was somewhere on their website. It struck us as odd to sell gift certificates for people to come eat, hit them with a fee, and then tell them they should have known. Plus, neither the host nor our server was able to give a satisfactory answer about why this fee was required. They just kept saying that the $25 would be "returned" with the purchase of wine and that it was "lifelong." That isn't a strong selling point if we don't plan on coming back. Parking was a pain: it was dark so we couldn't tell how much parking was available but there were many cars driving around looking for spaces. We appreciated the valet finally encouraging cars to park along side the road. Aside from that we had a delightful evening. The food, drinks and wine were good, even if we felt everything was overpriced. The atmosphere was good: it is a nice space. And we didn't feel rushed at all. The server did a great job pacing the meal and we were able to really enjoy ourselves.

We went for a wine tasting. My friend made a reservation and we sat at a busy balcony door. The wine tasting was 1/3 cup of three small samples. We ordered some cheese and crackers and meets. It was the smallest portion as well. I mean it was ridiculous. Two of us ordered a glass of wine. It was minimal and I was starving. It ended up being 180.00 all in. I will not return. The service was slow as hell. When I left my car was blocked by the valet, the kind valet gentleman helped me get out. It was a rip-off. I would rather grab wine at the store and make a delicious charcuterie board at home for less and be comfortable. I still haven't been wowed out here. However, the view from above is beautiful, that's it!

Nestled high up in the West Hills pine forests of Portland, Oregon overlooking the Willamette Valley and the misty hills beyond is the Amaterra Winery and restaurant. Ameterra means, for the love of the earth. Here, on the upper terrace, we spent a magical evening experiencing the ‘tasting flight menu’ of 4 locally produced wines and delighting in the sumptuous, expertly prepared feast of a meal. 3 of us had melt in the mouth Pan-Seared Scallops on a bed of Sweet corn & fennel risotto, fire-roasted eggplant, heirloom tomato, bacon. The other Roasted Red Wine Chicken, Potato puree, roasted mushroom, pearl onion, bacon, roasted chicken jus The service was friendly, the décor, chalet style, and the ambiance relaxed. Fine dining at its best.

First off, Jeff Brown is amazing.! Second of all, everything at Amaterra is absolutely perfect. Had an amazing meal and wonderful service. Can’t wait to come back.

While we were in Portland for a weekend, we wanted a nice winery experience, and found this one where we didn't have to drive an hour plus outside of downtown Portland to get it. I liked that parking was free. Even though we had off-and-on rain the day we visited, the views from the back patio are incredible. We had eaten before venturing out there, so I can't speak to the food. It did look good though. We did the wine tasting to get the true experience. This place has some of the best pinot noir we've tasted. Yes, one of your party guests has to spend the $25 to become an wine club member, but if you purchase any wine to take home, you can apply it to the purchase, which we did. Anyway, the wines were delicious, as they focus on locally produced wines from the Williamette Valley. The building was designed well, and was spacious & modern. We felt relaxed, and got great service from Nick as he explained each wine that we tasted. I'd recommend, especially if looking to stay local.

We came in for wine tasting in late summer and had a wonderful time. I had never tasted wines like these before, the Nemarniki Pinot Noir specifically really blew me away. Service was great. If you're looking for a special activity in the Portland area, definitely come to Amaterra. The staff, views, wines, food and atmosphere were unlike anything we have seen in the city. We will be back!

It's a scam! They charge $25 for a reservation and you can only use it if you buy 2 bottles on your way out. So they hold their customers hostage. There are so many beautiful wineries in the area. Why go to one that steals?
Highly recommend
Closest winery to Portland. About 20 minutes by Uber. Gorgeous location and view from the restaurant. Server very knowledgeable about the food and wines on offer. We had a flight of wines before dinner and then a bottle with dinner. Reasonable prices and excellent food. The attached wine store sells bottles for about half the menu price. Good deals! Highly recommended.
