I've probably walked by this location a million times, but never knew this fabulous restaurant was tucked over on the side of the building. It is not a small restaurant and has several large spacious rooms. Apparently, there are several other restuarants in different cities so this must be a "chain." The menu is phenomenal and the food is even better. Our waiter, Velington, was so cordial, professional and helpful. Kudos to Velington, the restaurant, and the chefs!!! We enjoyed a Tandoori sampler, fresh piping hot naan, and a wonderful cauiflower dish (cauliflower bezule). WE WILL BE BACK!

I do not know how can be possible to rate positively this restaurant that of Indian has only the denomination, not even the name. The place lack in everything: taste of the food with no spices , no authenticity, even the menu is phony : may be the intention was some sort of American fusion Indian wonna-be. Ambiance is cold and definitely not posh , with a tablet as a wine list and some sort of plastic covered depliant as menus. May be the manager/owner has forgotten what Indian food tastes like, or has never been in one . Portion rather small, prices rather high. Had black lentils dal, butter chicken, naan, tandoori samplers.. all tasted the same... some sort of masala( uk recipe f.y.i. Would have been at least tasty if not authentic) greasy and heavy. Just do yourself a favour : save your time and eat a burger.

Clean place, good service, but it called my attention that the menu has only one dish with shrimp, and actually the menu is kind of small, compared to Hindu restaurants in Miami. The food was good, great taste, portions reasonable, and prices were fine

Last time I visited this restaurant as part of a business meal was in 2019. The ambience and decor remains the same, the food was just as good as I remembered it. You can have a really nice Indian meal here and enjoy the evening.

Had dinner here with a friend during the World Cup Rugby 7s. The ambience and service were excellent. We had samosas and Lamb seekh kebabs with wonderful sauces and presented well. Very tasty. The curry was a chicken with an almond sauce which we shared and was plenty big enough with two naan. Deserts were also great, particularly the kulfi which was quite different to others I have had. Very good meal overall - both Brits so we know our curry.

Not at all vegetarian friendly. Even worse, very poor customer service. The naan contains eggs. It was not announced anywhere on the menu that it does. Apparently "Eggs are considered vegetarian" it seems - since when? And the General manager made it worse by blaming it - saying it was our fault that we did not ask. Everyone knows that Naan contains eggs. No customer has complained it seems. I saw boards announcing "Gluten free", "Dairy Free", "Nuts free" etc. But products containing eggs are not announced and if we have a question we need to ask apparently. What should we ask next - does your drinking water contain only H2o or anything else? We have to ask for every dish apparently and they are not responsible. I have never heard such preposterous comments and such a terrible customer service? Should we make a checklist next time and run that by for every dish we order at this restaurant? The GM said no one complained about eggs, and after 15 minutes of arguing he contradicted himself saying that recently in the past 2-3 weeks many customers are asking if these are egg free so he will mention to their owner about this and they cannot influence their cooks on how to make. No one is asking to change the menu. We are just asking that you be sensitive to customer requirements and announce what the product contains. I told them that people might not even be aware that it contains eggs. He said that whole wheat breads - like Rotis do not contain eggs and refined wheat breads like Naans contain eggs, but in one of their 5 branches, Naans also do not contain eggs. Seriously? We are supposed to be aware of all these? He made it worse by trying to offer a discount - this cannot make up for the disgust I went through today. I strongly recommend that if you are particular about vegetarian and no eggs avoid this restaurant. I would like to give this negative stars, less so for containing eggs and not announcing it, and more so for the insensitive way of handling customers. Absolutely disgusted. Will never visit this place again

Again, a very nice experience. The food is fabulous, the Momosas are great, and service is swift and friendly. Highly recommendable.

We always visit Amber India when in SF. The signature Butter Chicken is just wonderful. And the griller caulifower and broccoli are such a wonderful find - when so often vegetables are lacking at Indian restaurants! Reasonable wine selections are available by the glass. Oh, and they have brown rice - also fairly uncommon. Every dish is very well-prepared. We prefer the bar area.

Although the restaurant offers a good selection of creative indian cuisine, even the most traditional recipes here are way above average. Don’t think that Samosa will be boring, because they will taste better than any you have ever had in your life. Service is fast and corteous, price not cheap but within reason for a restaurant of this caliber. The only issue for me was the wine list, which was not varied enough and offered almost exclusively bottles priced between 150 and 300dollars a bottle.

Very good food and service. Easy walk from union square area. The rhogan josh was very very good, extremely flavorful but not too spicy. Tandoori chicken was very nice as well.

The service was ok, as was the food. But not nothing special. Did not meet my expectations, except the wine, but for $70 it better does!

You can miss it if you are not careful, but once you get there, the palate shall be satiated with great Indian food. The variety is primarily North Indian and a good selection. Good selection of starters and main course, choose anything, you will like it. Notable mention to the Yellow Dal which was awesome.

Whenever my husband and I are in San Fran we always stay at the Palace Hotel and always dine at Amber Indian. It's so close to the hotel and the meals are always delicious. The service is fine, by no way extra special, however, the quality and taste of the food makes up for where the service lacks.

We were craving Indian food and Amber was highly rated on TA and near our hotel. The atmosphere and decor was high end yet the prices were reasonable. The service was first class and our waiter Brittani who went Bri was professional, knowledgeable and very timely. We started with the shrimp appetizer which came with 4 medium sized shrimp in the typical Indian sauce, it was very good with a slight spiciness to it. For entrees we had the oven baked broccoli and cauliflower, the butter chicken, and sides of naan garlic bread and saffron rice. The portions were just right with moderate portions for the entrees and generous portions on the sides. There were two of us and we finished everything but did not feel overwhelmed with food.

Probably deserves no stars. Deplorable level of service, despite pretending to be a high end Indian restaurant (an oxymoron in itself). In addition, when you pay roughly $30 for a curry (without rice etc), you’d expect the spice level to be what you ordered. Not here. Offers a full, well thought out cocktail list, but swings and misses. Having visited literally hundreds of curry houses around the world, this comes close to the bottom of any, including places that serve $7-$8 curries. Skip this and go to virtually any other in San Francisco.

Brilliant food and very good service from our waiter Daniel. Really lovely interior and atmosphere! Good if you enjoy Indian food.

One of very popular restaurants for Indian food in San Francisco. The food test not extra ordinary. The food portions are big so you are very likely to waste the food if you don't check about the quantity per portion in prior. I prefer serving staff advise about how much food will be served in one portion or at least mentioned in the menu. I am not sure if that's a good practice to have in USA but suggesting guests about the better combination of food (which curry goes better with Bread or Rice or as side dish) would help making better food choices. KAI KARI MANDI is what I ordered mentioned under curry section in Menu and all I served was steer fried boiled vegetables with salt and pepper sprinkled. ACHARI PANEER VEGETABLE SKEWERS has had paneer pieces with no test of ACHAR.

Yet another great business dinner at this consistently excellent restaurant. Amber provides an enabling business environment with professional service. While their menu is impressive, don't be afraid to ask for something not listed. Their chef's appear to pride themselves on exceeding your expectations.

Food was absolutely gorgeous and they have a great variety to choose from. Great wine list to accompany dishes and ranges for all tastes and budgets. Staff were very warm and friendly, excellent service, nothing was too much trouble. I highly recommend.

I had dinner at Amber with two friends and we all agree the food was wonderful. The Tandorii sampler, a seafood curry and a lamb curry were all richly flavorful and well prepared. The service was a bit slow to start but finished very well. There is a very reasonable wine list.

I came here with 3 colleagues while attending a conference at the Marriott Marquis. On the waiter’s recommendation, we ordered three plates to share: the Malai chicken, the lamb kofta, and the aloo gobi, plus a bottle of red wine and the samosa appetizer. The wine was good. Everything else was not. The chicken was just grilled. No spices. The aloo gobi tasted like plain boiled vegetables. And the kofta was completely bland. Even the rice was boring.

So back here in the U.K. we like a curry every fortnight or so whether that be home cooked or take away. As we had been away for a fortnight we fancied a good curry and punted for this restaurant based on the reviews. Tip: reserve your table as it’s gets very busy and you might not get in. I ordered the chicken Karakhundi and it was so delicious if I wasn’t so full I would have licked the bowl. However, my partner ordered the lamb vindaloo and it was salt central which was not good. It was like the salt pot had fell in to the dish. The meat was tender though. It was a little pricey compared to UK curry and if you feel adventurous there are lots of things that are not traditionally on a uk menu so step out of the norm and have a go.

The restaurant is conveniently located just off Market and was in walking distance of our hotel. It’s a big restaurant - but a nice atmosphere and was packed with people waiting at the bar - so strongly recommend you book. We shared starters of prawns - jack fruit cakes and the most amazing sea weed and pomegranate salad - which was out of this world. The flavours were fantastic. For mains we again shared butter chicken - the tandoori platter and the best dish of tandoori cauliflower and broccoli. Again fantastic flavours - nothing too intense and a warm curry sensation - nothing to blow your mouth off... We also had some brown rice and nan bread. We also had wine and cocktails which were very good. The service was excellent and all round well worth the trip and the price - not the cheapest - but excellent value for money.

We recently dined at Amber India for the first time in several years and found the dishes just as tasty as ton our prior visit. Our favorite, then and now, is their crisp spinach appetizer — delicious. And a great selection of fairly priced wines by the glass.

For a moment, thanks to the curry, I went back to the many business trips to Mumbai. Tried the well-built and enjoyable 75 USD Indian route, with balanced and well-kept dishes, more elegant than explosive. Too bad, however, for an important absence: naan bread and tandoori dishes were missing, elements that in an Indian tasting should be essential and that are felt here. In summary: pleasant and well-accompanied experience, but with some lack that weighs on the final judgment. What brings us home Roberta: “in Italy it is cold. Better to gather everyone around the cumin.'

It’s posh and classy,YUMMY 10/10!! They do lovely Tika masala and Narn bread!!!!!! But my review can’t explain it all but it is just good and the best curry place I’ve ever been to!!!!!!!!!!🍛🍚mmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Convenient to the hotel and the people were nice, but the food was just not all that great. One person really liked theirs.

Apart from the very low lighting, I would recommend this restaurant for it's food. We were not looking for a traditional Indian restaurant - wanted something a little more subtle. That's what Amber is. If you are missing home cooked Indian food, this is not the place. If you want well made food with Indian flavors, then come here. Lots of options for vegetarians of course. Excellent samosas and the rasmalai was superior. Our waiter was good but our server was terrible - just kind of dumped the food on our table. Too cramped and loud for a fine dining experience but no complaints about the food.

Good authentic preparation. Must visit if you are craving for Indian food while at San Fransisco. Great ambience as well.

Excellent spread , very tasty food , live chat counter , helpful staff. Reasonable charge. Cheaper on weekdays Enjoyed .

The restaurant was very very crowded. The service was slow and it took very long to get our second order. The most important thing: We paid 90 dollars for two meals; the rice and bread was charged extra! Not getting full for 45 dollars ist quite unsatisfiying. I was in many indian restaurants before, which sell their stuff for much much less and the food even tastes better. Defenitely not recommendable.

Excellent food - this is my fourth visit to US and I must say this is the best Indian food I have had so far in US. The daal was excellent better than most we had in Australia and the Saag Paneer was brilliant. Our daughter had Lamb Chops and she absolutely loved it. Her grandmother is a chef and she has high standards so it must have been her very good. If you are in SF and love Indian food - you must visit this place.

The resturant was extremely busy but they accommodated us and we were able to get our dinner. The dishes we ordered tasted fresh but lacked a true indian feel. Service was quick and good. Overall a very nice place. And it is very close to Moscone center.

Mouth-watering menu that combines traditional Indian dishes with new combinations and ingredients. The four-spice sea bass was out of this world. I liked the kick to the spicy naan. The samosas were good, but didn’t taste substantially different from samosas I have tried elsewhere. I’d come back for the sea bass, and to try some more items from their menu. The restaurant is a bit pricey, but the food is very good.

This is the tastiest meal we had in Indian restaurants in US. It beats other best Indian restaurants we visited in NY, Chicago or LA (some were Michelin rated). Just piece of advice: reserve ahead. We had to wait for 45 minutes to be seated. Masala curry butter chicken is a must!

The atmosphere of the restaurant is great, it is not like any other traditional Indian restaurants. In regards to the food, we ordered the following: Butter chicken, Paneer kadhai, Garlic Naan, Saffron rice and Mango lassi. In general food was good, the dishes were tasty. Perhaps the Garlic Naan bread was not the best. Overall it is a nice place to eat with friends/family or for dating, the restaurant has plenty of spaces. It is a bit overpriced for being an Indian restaurant so for not special occasions I would prefer to go to a traditional restaurant with better prices.

Overall food quality is good but is expensive. Here for lunch and we wanted to have ala carte menu but was told it would wait for longer time like 20 mins. So we have to take the buffet and typically would eat too much.. the tofu curry , butter chicken and fish is excellent ! Nice ambience and great Indian food...

My husband and I came here for a special date night before going to Hamilton. The atmosphere is lovely! The food was delicious!! I loved the Butter Chicken,Tandoori Chicken, and Naan. The server was very attentive... almost too attentive, but maybe I am not used to being waited on by a servant at a fancy dinner like at Downton Abbey... watching you eat, and anticipating your every need. The food was very pricey though. (I think we spent close to $90 without alcoholic beverages.) If I lived here I would only come for special occasions. I thought it was a little stingy to charge separately for the rice that came with the Butter Chicken. I eat out at Indian restaurants all the time and have never been charged for the rice that comes with the saucy meat dishes.

We chose it because it was around the corner from our hotel (and next to the convention center) - and were astounded by how good it was. Flawless service and some of the best Indian food I've ever had. Rich, multilayered sauces, perfectly cooked ingredients (lobster in an Indian Dish - who'd have thought?). And the breadbasket equivalent! Samplings of many types, all really wonderful. I missed having Poori on the menu, but that was a small price to pay for such a rich dinner with EXTREMELY generous portions. We left stuffed.

We targeted the Amber Indian restaurant as it was convieniently located. The decor was nice, and serving staff were courteous throughtout our stay . When we looked at the menu, we were shocked by the prices but we were faminished and decided to stay hoping the food was worth the cost. NO way. We had a mixed dish for around US $30 with some rice. This dish was OK compared to other Indian food we have had over the years but nothing to write home about and way way over priced. The SF folks are being taken for a ride - the same price would have got us 3 to 4 plates more at other resturants as the quantity was rediculiously small for the price. Disappointed. Go chinese or to the Punjab for real value and better flavours.

The meal was very disappointing. The Chilean sea bass was overcooked and had a ‘fishy smell’. The lamb curry was below average with a thin sauce. The staff were outstanding and acknowledged my birthday.

Amber is a large Indian restaurant. The restaurant itself is somewhat fancy, and the prices match, it's not super-expensive but costs noticeably more than the typical Indian restaurant. Unfortunately the food, while entirely OK, wasn't good enough to defend the elevated prices, so to me it ended up feeling like a not particularly good value-proposition, I happily pay a bit more for better restaurants but here I ended up feeling as if I was paying more for food that was perfectly average.

We stopped in here on Christmas Eve and had the Tandoori Sampler and Crispy Potato Turnover in the bar. Amazing flavours and just the right amount of food to keep us going on our shopping expedition.

I was a little bit apprehensive about this place because the prices seemed higher than other Indian places and I thought it was going to be overly formal. The prices were perhaps a couple of dollars per entree more than other places, but the quality and ambiance definitely were worth it. The service was great, and the atmosphere is dark but quite comfortable. I ordered the signature dish: butter chicken. Theirs is the best I have ever had (though the one I tried when I visited India was pretty darn good!) My companion ordered scallops and she loved them. We ordered rice and naan, of course, and I asked about poori (puri) because I didn't see it on the menu and the server said they could make it for me! Wow, now that's service. Puri and butter chicken: I thought I had died and gone to heaven. I can't wait to return.

The ambience was subtle and great. We landed from LA, and checked into the Hilton nearby. I was dying to eat Indian food and we ordered curry, naan and rice. I don’t like to order too much and waste. We in fact ordered one extra naan to wipe out the vessel. With so many homeless people just outside, I find it criminal to waste food. The most comforting part was to be served and attended to by Mr.Danny from Nepal who had worked in New York before shifting here, due to the cold weather. He spoke about Nepal and his new born daughter and shared some nice tips on how to make “momos” which I won’t give away easily. Make sure you ask for DANNY to have a more enriching experience. Yummy food. Good feel. Nice hospitality.

Whenever we're in SF this place is always on our list. Great food and many vegetarian options. Queue builds up quite fast so make sure to keep waiting time in mind.

Pretty good Indian but not as good as in England. Had buffet which Butter Chicken was nice. God Naan bread. Disappointed there was not a better curry along with the butter chicken.

Awesome selection of traditional Indian foods with great flavor and just enough heat to be tasty without being too spicy.

We had a great experience in the Amber ! Our First dinner in San Francisco ! Ambience service and food was excellent! ! Our server Namira was amazing never stopped smiling , explained the menu to us both , must say the rest of the staff amazing also ! Food was delicious would definitely recommend and return if back in San Francisco thanks again for an amazing evening

Had a good evening. Good with perfect level of spices. Fusion Indian cuisine. Great location. You are looking at $$$ but worth.

While there were some of the expected items on the lunch buffet, like Tandoori Chicken, there was also a mild fish dish and a mushroom and onion dish. The chickpeas were particularly good. Crowded and noisy.

When two limeys get together in SF then there is little debate as to what they should eat.. a curry of course. A proper curry house that would not look out of place in the smarter parts of London. The menu was fine and they were able to knock up a few dishes that emerge not on the menu Would happily return at the next opportunity

My coworkers and I went here because one of them is Indian and really wanted awesome Indian food. We didn't realize that it was "creative" Indian food and he seemed disappointed. The food was very good though -- just not exactly what we wanted.

We came in here for Christmas Eve Dinner and had a great time - Special Thanks to the staff. The speed of service and service quality was really spot on! From the Dinner Menu we tried the Mulligatawny Soup, Samosas, Achari Paneer Vegetable Skewers and Murg Badami. Each and every dish was very well made and presented. Overall, a great experience!

The lamb kebabs were generous in size and delicious. Combined with the garlic naan bread and a great Malbec wine, my day was made!

Nice place with friendly service. The food was mediocre and the deserts bad. The naan was good. Especially the pesto.

We were able to get a 5 person reservation at Amber 45 minutes before we sat down. The place was bustling, most likely due to the holiday rush. Unfortunately the kitchen/dishpit could be heard from the dining room, which diminished the ambience. Standout dishes were the lamb vindaloo, yellow lentils, the shrimp appetizer, and the duck skewer appetizer. The lobster was a miss, and the cauliflower and broccoli dish was average. Samosas were on par with most other Indian restaurants. Our server Bree (or Brie depending on how hungry you are 😂) was very attentive and friendly. We had a mishap with a drink which she swiftly corrected. Pretty good food and great service, but would most likely try a new place before going back.

The food is outstanding and the atmosphere is perfect for catching up with old friends. Will return on our next trip!

Food was not exceptional but not decent compared to many other local Indian restaurants. The ambiance was good and service was very good. May not visit again.

Great spot for Indian cuisine in down town san francisco. Buffet had a great assortment of food and our entire party was very pleased

Amber is an upscale and stylish restaurant serving classic Indian Cuisine with selected organically grown ingredients. Had dinner here as part of a business group, and partook in a prelected menu for group dinners. The place is located close to Moscone Convention Center and hence the place was busy. Several dishes were included in the menu and serving quantity was unlimited. All the dishes were delicious, except most in our group felt that the lamb kabob was not quite up to par with the other items. Certainly a great place for formal dinner with excellent service.

While visiting San Francisco we had dinner at Amber India. It was the best Indian cuisine we have ever eaten. The food is flavorful, feels clean — not heavy and oily. Add to the incredible cooking the modern decor and it made for an amazing experience. I have had Indian food in some of the most sophisticated cities in the world. Amber India is the best.

Today evening with a friend visiting from out of town, I came to this restaurant for dinner. I must say, it was one of the best dining experiences I had, eating Indian vegetarian cuisine at Amber India, San Francisco; two thumbs up for this fine dining restaurant. We ordered from a-la-carte dinner menu (not buffet). For starters, we ordered one plate of Jackfruit Lentil Bytes (in India we simply call them ‘cutlet’). It was served with a combo of sweet and tangy sauce and the green coriander sauce. It was really spicy and tangy and a great way to start. The main course was one order of Vegetable Korma and another order of ‘Baingan Mirch-ka-Salan’ (a kind of spicy eggplant preparation). For the accompaniment, we ordered a basket of assorted breads (Naan, Spinach Roti and Lachha Paratha). The food was delicious, sumptuous and at the same time more than enough. The ambiance was great, service was impeccable; cleanliness was spotless perfection. All in all, it was a wonderful evening. The only down side was finding parking in the evening in downtown SF, which is a known problem and one must be prepared for; nothing to do with the restaurant.

I’ve been for the second time at this Indian restaurant in the city center. Nice and stylish ambience, relaxed atmosphere, kind staff. The food was very good, we had both chicken tandoori and vegetable options and they were all great! Prices as expected in San Francisco city center. Definitely recommended!

typical mid-expensive desi restaurant that has all the desi junta in vicinity flocking to it. The food is good. go for it. Expect ~80 dollars for two people.

I went to have dinner at this restaurant. The ambiance was good, and the quality and quantity of food were satisfactory. The staff were attentive and helpful. However, the prices were slightly higher than expected but still acceptable. The location was convenient and easy to find.

We don’t get Indian food where we live so we were excited to see Amber and it did not disappoint. Attentive staff and the food was wonderful! We had butter chicken and salmon. Highly recommend this place!

Amber has great food and cannot be beaten. But this is my opinion. I hope you will like it too. Thanks!

It's not the first time I eat at Amber's. The food is really good. Unfortunately the staff (bar section) is unfriendly and they don't care much about the customers. I had to wait quite a long time before they took my order. I asked for a glass of wine: it has never been served but it has been charged to the bill. Once I finished my meal and asked for the check, I had to wait again for a long time. When I left the bar/restaurant the two girls at the entrance ignored me and didn't even reply to my greetings. I felt like I was not welcome from the beginning till the end.

Good options on the buffet @ 26 dollars a head. The fish was good. Chicken not so much as it had been simmering all morning and was very dry/over cooked. Good dessert options (avoid the sago kheer though). Good ambience ... .. good for groups too.

We were a party of 8, made reservations well ahead of time and had a terrific meal! Not only did the restaurant go out of their way to make several special dishes for us, the food was fantastic! Thanks for taking care of our party, and we'll be back!

We’ve been here many times . Never disappointed in the quality of the food. Easy access from Westfield shopping center and Moscone center

Reservations are recommended for dinner on weekends. I was seated promptly although wish the room was warmer. I noticed some people wearing a jacket while eating. I gave it a 5 for the food and service. Most likely will come back here again for dinner.

I was at a conference in a nearby hotel and was Amber was recommended as one of the best Indian restaurants in San Francisco. I wasn’t disappointed. Although it was a busy Thursday evening and we were a group of 9, the staff quickly arranged tables for us. The menu selection was good, and the dishes were excellent. They were well spiced but not overly so. The quantities were fulsome, if even overly so, as most of us could not finish them. Obviously, we couldn’t eat desert. The cost was reasonable and I would recommend.

Went for a meal with 5 of my family. Found the food good but overpriced for what it was. Service was good - standards were high.

Authentic Indian food in a very nice place. Great ambience and service. Courteous staff and turn around time is quick

What a great feast! The buffet was generous and delicious with so many yummy dishes it’s impossible to mention them all. Service was great and the bottomless mimosas were delicious. Quality at good value.

Ate here twice during a week's visit to San Francisco. I like Indian food and eat at our local restaurant at least once a month. Couldn't tell what I wanted so my server made suggestions which combined some of my favorites in a tasty manner. Convenient to Yerba Buena Center, SFMoMA, Market Street shops.

Convention business (70k) had the restaurant slammed and yet the service was friendly, timely and professional; the kitchen true-to-form and the dining experience excellent. We always enjoy our time at Amber India.

We went for a dinner meeting. The table ordered the family style option. Make sure you bring you appetite for this meal!

Recommended by locals & reviews, Amber India lures you with a nice location, cozy ambience, delicious food & warm service.

We ate here last night and we were very excited when we found the restaurant by chance, it looked great and was very busy. We had to wait for a table which we didn’t mind as we had a drink st the bar, the bar staff were very welcoming and offered us advice on the menu. After waiting 40 minutes for a table we were taken downstairs, our waitress was welcoming and very professional. We ordered a chicken vindaloo and a butter chicken medium hot with a couple of sides. When the food came we were excited, however my first bite into the butter chicken and I had a mouth full of chicken carcass! At the same time my wife was eating the chicken vindaloo and that was full of bones, nowhere on the menu did it state it would be like this. The food wasn’t that tasty and we found it inedible! We are from the uk and it was by far the worst Indian meal we have every had. When you are paying close to 30 dollars per curry I found it a joke.

It's been a number of years since I've eaten Indian food in San Francisco primarily because I was worried it would disappoint. I've had such stellar experiences in London that San Francisco seemed like it could not live up to those experiences. I finally took the plunge for a friend's birthday and went to Amber India on the recommendation of another friend. The food was very good. We ordered the samosas and a bread basket for the table. And I ordered the lamb chops. The lamb chops were excellent: beautifully marinated and then roasted in the tandoori oven. I would have preferred them a little less well done, but I enjoyed them nonetheless. The service, however, was less than stellar. We ordered cocktails to start. The server opened up a bottle of wine which we had brought along. It was on the table and available so we sipped our wine. Appetizers were delivered. No cocktails. Time passed. Finally, I decided that I would forego the cocktails. What was the point? The server protested: they're being made! But agreed to cancel my cocktail. My friend still wanted his. Long story short. Entrees arrived, THEN his cocktail. I've never seen such a bizarre sequence of food and drink delivered to the table. In the end, no apology, no recognition even that there was something amiss. Also: corkage fee: exorbitant at $35. I'd go back, but I'd make sure the next server knew my expectations for service.

We went on a Sunday and enjoyed their buffet. Every dish was good and not too spicy. The butter chicken was especially good.

We love this place, the food was great and so was the service. We tried butter chicken and it was very delicious. The atmosphere of the restaurant was pleasing and we would like to visit again in future.

Nice atmosphere and the food I ordered was good, but it was astronomically priced. It cost about £55 for a small glass on wine, samosas, lamb curry and naan. Not even rice!!

The food was tasty. I love Indian food and this place lived up to their ratings on Trip Advisor. I would visit again.

A beautiful interior and excellent service promise an excellent meal - and Amber delivers. From the delightful Somosa appetizer (potato-pea dumplings) to the sublime Nalli Vindaloo (with lamb shank) to a memorable Butter Chicken, and perfect naan, all conversation stopped as we just smiled at each other and enjoyed our meal. The service was thoughtful and never obtrusive. The Yerba Buena location of Amber (in the financial district) is a stop worth making.

My husband said best Indian he has had outside of India. We loved this place!!! Biryani was delicious and full of flavorful chicken. The coconut lobster curry pot was amazing! Skip the tandoori sampler and try an appetizer instead. Garlic naan was perfect. Will be coming back-we hear there is a buffet lunch!

But they really need to work on a dinner option that allows you to try three or four dishes that you pick. Not a prix fix where you don’t want half the items. And the tandoori sampler doesn’t count, if you don’t eat shrimp like I don’t, it’s not even an option. In the past I’ve rated this a five. But based on the wine selection last night and their lack of evolution of menu flexibility, they’re slipping to a four and maybe will risk my return visits. I found a new place I love even better, see my other recent post.

We visited for dinner with our teenagers and we all enjoyed some very tasteful starters and our main courses, which were very mild (we would have prefered more spicy version), nevertheless, the food was very tasteful, with non dairy options, the service was just perfect. A great place when in SF and love indian food.

This is a lovely restaurant experience, beautiful room and upscale cuisine, a nice twist on traditional Indian cooking, in a very nice part of downtown San Francisco. An elegant evening.

This was a good choice for a business dinner. Good atmosphere for business. Food was great and so was the service. We ordered medium spicy and it was not spicy at all so the spice scale is more American than Indian :)

What an indian restaurant with a great location.Very good ambience & good food, efficient service.Nice place

I love Indian food and was pleased to find this right in the shadow of where I was staying, the SF Marriott Marquis. Along with a great pizza shop and the Press Club (where I attended a wine tasting, also a nice ambience), the location of this restaurant is a wide alley outside the rear of the Marriott on Mission Street, used as a shortcut between hotel and Moscone Center, so me and many others passed it every day attending a conference. Bottom line, seeing it there I "Tripadvisered" it and see (as might be expected) a wide variety of reactions from a wide variety of travelers from everywhere. People from around the world, attending conferences at Moscone or staying at Marriott while on business in SF's financial district. That's the context. I can only speak as an American familiar with Indian food as I've known it in NY mostly, and other urban centers in the U.S. The reviews I read said to either go for or avoid the curry, and a few mentioned the surly reception. Others say "the best ever!" My take: I went with a main course of lamb saag, which is not on the menu, but is a classic dish (saag being spinach and saag paneer a classic with pieces of cheese). They said they'd make it, and did. And it was decent. Not amazing, but definitely authentic seasoning, contrary to a few reviews I read. Not super-spicy, but zingy. Given their customers, I suppose they go for the middle ground. Lamb was tender, only a few cheese pieces, but as I say, it was on the money for lamb saag as I've known and loved it. I got the naan, and it was nicely made - I got the pesto version, not my norm. It was good, though the raves about their naan (plain) made me think the pesto was unnecessary. As for ambience, it's two levels and a big glass storefront in that ally behind the Marriott, and inside it's very modern, pastel light, glitzy-ish, and crowded with a short wait for seating on a Saturday night. In terms of the "attitude", I understand why some are put off. Don't ask for a suggestion between two things (at the front, for take-out anyways) because the front "reception guy" will just dismiss you and say "look, lots of people here and they like everything". Not a people person and not hi-quality "data" for convention crowds of lawyers, psychologists, and others who don't appreciate non-helpfulness. So that's the story. I only sampled a few favorites, your mileage may vary. But it's serious Indian style as seen in US cities, nice for a group to enjoy the ambience, and on the high end of price, but also authenticity in the dishes they do offer.

Friendly staff, great ambiance, amazing food! We had a great time there. Will definitely go back there

I will admit..I am no expert on Indian food. But, I can tell you that this place was excellent. The flavors and spices were incredible. It was a meal to remember!

Nice indian vegetarian stuff. Good ambiance and good service. Food is very tasy and quality is good. Rates are reasonable

This was my 2nd visit to Amber. It seems to be the most preferred food joint by all Indians working anywhere near Market street. The food is good and I can imagine it to be a great relief for Indians who miss that taste staying in US. I have had the Biryani once and the lunch buffet once. Nothing to be too enamoured or too critical about. They may however consider expanding the space since it is almost always too full.

As a curryholic I will always like to seek out Indian restaurants to try on my world wide travels. This is a little gem with its relaxed ambiance great service and options for casual bar with bites or full menus at the ample seating area. The Biriani was unusual but tasty and whilst not at the levels of Bombay or London a credible attempt. I’ll be back for sure to try the full menu.

We really enjoyed our evening here. The food was delicious and well thought out with some interesting twists we didn't expect to find. Also a very good wine list!

This place is located on the backside of Marriott Marquis hotel which is the Yerba Buena Lane. We tried this place two times once dine in and and once carryout. We had the Samosas, Paneer Kadhai, Garlic Nan and organic Roti. Samosas were a let down for us, I think they were just okay and nothing to write home about. We loved the Biryani, it’s good enough for 4 people. If you are traveling be careful when you get Biryani. The flavors for Paneer Kadhai and Veg Biryani were excellent. Especially the Yogurt Raita which came with the Biryani. For the price and being downtown, I was missing a papad with the Biryani. The service was good and could be great. Our server took our order and didn’t engage in anything further. For Carry out - we had the Kale Kofta which was excellent with medallion appetizer. The appetizer tasted good but it was lil dry for us. The chutneys did help. This is a good place for Indian food in Downtown, could it be great, there is definitely opportunity for it to finesse the service and work on appetizers. Lastly, they need to work on recipe of the nan… it’s not nan but roti shaped as nan… there is a big difference in the dough texture.

In SF, you have 2 types if Indian restaurants (according to me) - one with great food no ambience and the other with good ambience and average food. Amber happens to be one of the very very very few restaurants to offer you both, whether it is casual dining, a special occasion or a business meal. The service is really good and if you happen to run into a server by the name of Prem, he has been amazing.

We paid about £40/head and only got a main with naan. Despite the price I would definitely use again. The food and service is top notch, I could not fault it. Portion sizes are also really good.

Stylish location in the city center, relaxed atmosphere, professional and kind staff. Very good food, I had a Vegetable Korma and it was delicious. Prices as expected in SF. Recommend!

For a good introduction to good quality Indian food The usual fare but good taste If you have to enjoy and sample many choices the lunch buffet may be a good choice

The food was good, and the service was fast, easy and good. The price also good, the atmosphere was relaxed, highly recommend the place

Overall good. The food was a bit over spiced and somewhat room temperature on arrival. The service was average at best. Not all, rather simple requests were followed, like how much ice in my drink (not happy with the amount of ice in my quite expensive single malt scotch. I asked for one ice cube (those who appreciate single malts know exactly the reason for such a request), I got five) and what I wanted cleared from the table at the end of the meal. Got the check when I was not ready. So no dessert or coffee for me, I guess. Servers not knowledgeable about the dishes (but maybe gone are the days when servers actually understood the food they were serving, and the culture to which it belongs). I have been to Amber before. I like it. I will be back when I visit SFO. It is consistent. I don’t usually expect an exquisite experience when I eat there. I know what I will get: good food in a pleasant surrounding with a moderate noise level.

Friendly atmosphere, delicious food, friendly and attentive staff. The prices are a bit high but overall worth it. Wide food possibilities even for those who are vegan

Visited this high end, Indian Food place in San Francisco. Needed reservations as it was weekend. We reached the restaurant and were shown to the table. We ordered lamb qorma, chicken butter, seekh kebabs, bar bq platter and some Daal. Generally quality was good, but kebab’s were a bit hard and could be done better. Qorma, daal and butter chicken were good. We also ordered gulab jamun and qulfi for dessert. Jamun was good but qulfi seemed like the chef had forgotten to put in sugar. Did not have the regular qulfi taste at all, although presentation was good. Generally food was fine but there was place for improvement. Pricing was also on the higher side.

An OK meal though as a life long fan of Indian cuisine, and with Indian and Pakistani friends I felt it was very standard and a bit bland. Yes I would recommend Amber. Friendly and attentive staff. It was full on a Tuesday so I recommend reserving a couple fo days before going there.

We found this place by just searching for 'Indian restaurants' on our phone. Located just a short walk from Union Square, Amber was the perfect way to finish our day of sightseeing in San Francisco. The ambiance is elegant without being over-the-top (plenty of people in jeans). The food and wine were outstanding (the butter chicken gets my vote). The service was polite, professional and efficient, but we were never rushed. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our meal and we will definitely be back.

We went for a family dinner and the restaurant is well set up with vibrant and busy atmosphere. It is also kids friendly. The portions were generous and the food was delicious. The reason I am putting 4 stars instead of 5 is because you have to order rice separately even though the dishes are already quite expensive.

A great Indian restaurant with more than the typical fare. We went with a large (15 people) group. Service was excellent. Variety of food was great.

Amber India is an enjoyable Indian restaurant in a nice part of downtown San Fran. Food and service were both good and a nice ambiance. Lamb kebab was nice as was the naan bread.

There is nothing great for this restaurant, except that it is well located and have ample and convenient parking. Food is average, so is the service. Bread (Roti) were very hard to break. We went there after driving for about ten miles, as we were looking for Indian food.

Tandoori chicken, lamb chops & the endive cup was the best, the dessert was also great, one of the best indian resturaunts i ever tried, to be honest all the dishes were great

Such a shame I wasn’t hungry enough to enjoy my meal at Amber. Started with cauliflower, nicely cooked in a coconut sauce. Then had koufta in a tomato sauce both of which were delicious. The rice wasn’t fluffy, all stuck together like they’d scrapped it from the bottom of the pan. Nice atmosphere in the restaurant, nice and spicy too. Hope to return on a day when I can really enjoy their delicious food. It was quite expensive $45 fir these two vegan dishes and rice.

Literally every piece of meat was over cooked. This wasn't great for the curry pots, but for the tandoori plates it was frankly awful: the shrimp was about the chewiest and tough I've ever, the lamb kebab and chicken were unbelievably dry, and the portion for the tandoori plate was surprisingly small for the cost and quality. The naan was weirdly greasy and the waiter didn't mention the curry paste didn't come with bread or rice. The quinoa pilaf served with the tandoori plate was literally still in the plastic portion cup it had obviously been sitting it as it was overcooked to the point of mush. Even if there prices were lower I honestly wouldn't recommend it. As it is there are so many places that have much better food for less (many within a few blocks) that I honestly am surprised at how busy this restaurant was.

Was recommended this place by a friend of ours who had been in the city for two weeks. So glad we went. We had some excellent food … and the portion sizes were more “normal” than other places we’d eaten while in the US. I had the butter chicken (more like a spicy chicken tikka masala if you are from the UK) and it was excellent. Probably the best thing I eat during this holiday. Service was quick and friendly. Would certainly visit again.

We really enjoyed this restaurant. We liked everything we had, most particularly the chicken malai and the saag paneer, which were the best ever. The samosas were very good as was the soup. It may cost a bit extra but it’s worth every penny.

Really enjoyed this place. It was busy and we had to wait at the bar, good sign to begin with. The menu is small and you can't have all.meats with all flavours but everybody made fabulous choices. The lamb shank vindaloo was superb. I've just read they do a goat curry which i didn't see in the menu but would consider going back for that alone. Efficient service and welcoming atmosphere. Tick vg from me.

Some of the most flavorful Indian food I have ever eaten in my life - including the food I’ve had while in the country of India! The spices are incredible and the atmosphere is upscale but not too formal. The service is prompt and attentive and the prices are high, but typical for SF. I would highly recommend if you have the craving for great Indian food!

We had a lovely lunch at Amber Indian restaurant. The hostesses and servers were charming. The food was delicious and reasonably priced. It was quite full for lunch and had a good vibe. The buffet was lovely and the same price as everything else. It is in a good neighborhood of San Francisco.

Very nice and cosy place You taste the real indian food You had never taste indian food like this Friendly staff Nice drinks

We recently had the pleasure of dining with you the evening before our son graduated. We were referred by our guest relations representative from our hotel. Cocktails before we were seated were fantastic, service was wonderful and the food was delectable! We so enjoyed our dining experience with you all!

Again, it was an over the top experience. Veggie, bird and meat dishes galore and very nice Mimosas to go with the fare. Service was as always swift and friendly. Highly recommendable.

We had a most enjoyable and tasty main course here. No frills, no starters or desserts, just wine and mains. I had butter chicken and it was absolutely delicious. My husband had murgh lucknowi and he throughly enjoyed his too. I would 100% recommend this spot to anyone.

The restaurant has a nice ambiance with elaborate varieties of food - starters to main course to dessert. The food tastes very nice and the quality is also upto the mark. The buffet has veg and non veg options. The only flip side is the refilling frequency. When I visited, people had to wait at the buffet counters for the food to be refilled.

Came for the lunch buffet which had a nice variety of vegetarian, chicken, beef and fish dishes. Several side dishes, a hearty salad and dessert. The food was decent but not amazing as the rating might suggest Buffet was $28

We hadn’t been here for several years and I am glad we tried it again. The food is definitely upscale Indian but so is the cost. We shared chicken tandoori, a sea-bass tandoori dish, both of which come with either rice or quinoa, and a naan. Both dishes were delicious. We each had 2 glasses of wine. The service was very good. While crowded, it was not very noisy, and it was easy to carry on a conversation. The bill, with tip, was $60 per person.

This is a cosy restaurant with great Indian food. Staff was very attentive and the menu had a great diversity in choices. The food was really good.

I had the tandori sea bass and a local draft beer. They were both very good! The service was perfect and the atmosphere is also very nice. This place will work for anyone going solo or even large business dinners. I felt that 55 dollars for what I ordered was a bit high but it is probably not out of line for the area.

We went with a group of five colleagues, of which one is Indian. He confirmed our good impression and the fact that the food was authentic!

My wife and I had lunch at this restaurant during a visit to San Francisco. Highly recommend. Excellent food and professional, friendly service. Reasonably priced.

One of the better places for Indian food in the bay area.. we were 4 persons in the party and 2 had paper napkins and 2 had cloth napkins! Very strange. After much wait we were told they ran out of cloth napkins! Upscale restaurant runnng out of cloth napkins!! Never heard or seen before. It would have n=been better to give all paper napkins.

On our recent SF trip, we came here for lunch. It is a buffet during this hour. The selection was decent with more non-meat dishes than meat dishes. The flavors were ok also. All in all, I was underwhelmed. I was expecting a more flavorful, upscale cuisine. Service was also proper. Ambiance was pleasant, especially after more guests showed up.

I have been here a couple of times- its better to make advance reservations as there can be a waiting queue on some days. Elegant ambiance and efficient service. Prices are on the higher side but one can expect authentic Indian veg and non-veg food during lunch buffets and especially the desserts (gajjar halwa etc) are really good.

I arrived 20 minutes late for a Friday night booking and my booking had expired. The trouble is that Uber doesn't know where the restaurant is. It assumes cars can go through the Stevenson alley which is behind the restaurant. They can't and you spin your wheels finding the place.. Luckily, they were able to seat us and what a feast we had. Food came quickly and was delicious. I love Indian and have it around the world and this is one of the better Indian restaurants I have been to. Portions are large and the food is heavy so be careful not to over order. They have some unusual dishes, like their starter with jack fruit. The Peshwari Naan is sublime as is the masala chai tea.

Went with a business colleague for lunch. Picked the buffet option and it was priced high! Food was good but nothing to write home about, especially given the price. Buffet line was packed, line all the way to restrooms!! Some of the dishes were running out but was not replaced quickly. Given the line, you don't feel like going back either. Will think again before visiting

I visited this restaurant with my family for dinner. First of all we got fooled by the rating in trip advisor as the best Indian in San Francisco, well if this is the best in SF then that's too bad and someone should open a proper Indian restaurant in SF. Food quality is below average, we ordered 4 types of starters and 4 main courses and I can say easily all items were normal to below average. Doesn't worth the revisit and the price.

Close to our hotel, Park Central, with great food and service. Not a bad seat in the house. Terrific selection of Indian and Pakistani food. Had both naan and paratha breads.

Just round the corner from the Marriott Marquis you will find the Amber. The vibe is chilled and grown up but very friendly, we were a walk in but lucky I think given how busy it was. It’s not your average curry house menu but be adventurous 😀. The samosas and cauliflower were outstanding starters and not small. We shared a buttered chicken with naan and rice and were absolutely full. I have eaten many curry’s in many countries, some good, some bad however this was up there in the great category. If you are staying at the Marriott you can order room service from there either way I would recommend a visit if a good curry is what you want, or you want to try something different!

We enjoyed our dinner here and thank the table next to us for steering us away from what we had originally planned to order. We had an excellent Rogan Josh and a nice eggplant bengan dish. The bread was quite good, so we actually ordered more to enjoy with the gravy of the Rogan Josh. We will gladly eat here again if we find ourselves in San Francisco.

My family & I went to this restaurant for dinner on a Friday in the latter part of December 2017 while on holiday in the SF Bay Area, based on TripAdvisor ratings and reviews. We arrived there ~6:25 PM and were seated right away. The ambience was contemporary, lighting was appropriately low and the place seemed well-maintained. Our server (per the receipt) was Daniel. Things were going smoothly and we were doing ok with both (a) the pace and tone of service and (b) quality of food - good though not necessarily fantastic vegetarian items (we've had some really creatively-different mouth-watering dishes and superb service at top-class Indian restaurants in NYC that Amber couldn't match despite similarly high prices). Back to the pace: our waiter seemed unhurried and checked on us occasionally. Beverages and food arrived in reasonable time as ordered. The experience seemed quite good and we thought we were having a nice time. Little did we know how the evening would play out! At the end of the main course, our waiter didn't ask if we wanted dessert and when I asked for the desserts menu he brought us one reluctantly. I wanted to try the Spiced Chocolate Molten Cake, that was described as Belgian chocolate flavored with green cardamom and cumin (sounds pretty good, doesn't it?). But the waiter balked. He said it would take us 20 min to be served dessert! On a Friday night, when you'd expect them to keep on hand enough servings of what seemed to be the piece de resistance of their desserts menu! He said his (Asst)-Manager was pressuring him about table turnover to accommodate people who were waiting and then pretty much flat out refused to take an order for dessert. He got us our check, I reflexly put a >15% tip on a >$100 bill in the hope that behind-the-scenes staff would get something (though I believe in retrospect that all I did was reward bad behavior by the waiter and his (asst)-manager) and we were out of there by ~7:45 PM. There was no visible line of people waiting to be seated for dinner and the host / manager at the main reception counter indicated they were at the bar. He made a little show of surprise and dismay at our having been refused dessert but by then it was too late; he knew my family had already stepped out of the restaurant. All I had left was, literally, a bad taste in the mouth. Bottom line: this place is not worth the effort of a visit if you're seeking an Indian-cuisine fine dining experience.

Passed this Indian restaurant on a shopping spree. Decided to go back for dinner. The food was excellent! The butter chicken curry pot is amazing. And the presentation of the shrimp basmati side dish is impressive - and delicious. And the spicy passion fruit cocktail was very good! If you like good Indian food, you will appreciate Amber.

My wife and I are here before flying home. The buffet lunch is $50 for 2 people. The quality is amazing and the variety is great. This is the best Indian buffet we have had.

This Indian restaurant is located at Yerba Buena lane off Market Street, in the area just behind Mariott Marquis hotel (on the 4th street). The ambience is good, tables and sitting areas are comfortably located. The cuisine is good with varieties of Indian delicacies. The hospitality and service are very good. The prices are a bit on the higher side, however considering the location in the heart of San Francisco, can be considered as reasonable. The restaurant appears to be quite popular and is patronized by people of different origins apart from Indians.

We had a reservation which you need for dinner. Welcome was ok, but somewhat desorganized, they didn‘t find the reservation, then we had to spell the name. The service was ok, not very fast, but the whole restaurant was very loud and busy. The meal was fine, so we would recommend it for 5 stars, but there must be a better organization that causes less turmoil. And even we had no wine or spirits, we spent more than 120 $ for this.

A quiet weekday night we walked from our hotel to Amber and took a peek at the menu. Expensive, but we decided to splurge for our first night in San Francisco. It was early (about 5pm), but we hadn’t eaten since leaving the midwest about 8 hours earlier so we were hungry! We got a table right away, and our appetizers and entrees came out quickly. The staff was courteous and professional, and willing to recommend their favorites to us. While we enjoy trying new flavors, we are not super-experienced with Indian food, so having some guidance really helped. Everyone was pleased with their choices, and we had PLENTY of food for two teenaged boys and their parents. The restaurant started to fill up as we were leaving (about 6pm), so maybe reservations are a good idea. Nice atmosphere, delicious food, and great service. Awesome start to our vacation!

This place offers a nice ambience paired with amazing food. The place offered nice selection of vegetarian dishes which seems to use organic produce. The buffet had lot of options. We really liked the vegetarian curry options and dosa stand. The quality of the food is really nice. The price is a little high, but it is a good experience overall.

PRE-COVID era review: I am writing this review after 12 months - remniscing the day I had best Indian food ever. The prices were really low for the quality and variety in the buffet (not ur usual run of the mill Indian buffet with old/overcooked/ chewy chicken). The service was very efficient and courteous. Its by far the best Indian food buffet that I have ever eaten - better than the ones at high-end places in India. The food and sweet dishes were cooked to perfection. I haven't been able to have the same quality of Indian food in any other place in USA. I wish they had more franchises. I would give more stars if possible.

Excellent food, service, and beautiful place. Make a reservation in advance, the place is too popular and its sometimes full.

We booked a reservation the same day online for Amber after seeing such good reviews online. Despite having a reservation we had to wait a bit they were so busy. The food was good but not great. It was pricey, even for Indian food and even for San Francisco. The atmosphere and service was good. Some people were more dressed up than others, so jeans, etc. look to be fine.

We had dinner there one night. The food was excellent. However, with two people it was not possible to sample a variety of foods. Especially because American portions seem very large to us. We returned for the lunch buffet. The restaurant was busy and pleasant. Wait staff gave interesting information about the various items on the buffet. All were excellent, and seemed to be freshly prepared. We visit regularly when we go to S.F.

Food was okay but for the $35 for buffet, it’s not worth. I tried atleast 3 times in 4 weeks and the spread is same with no changes to the menu. Not much options in buffet as well. I would not recommend for price you pay.

Good, excellent service, but a little too expensive: $100 + 15% gratuity automatically on the receipt (and subsequent tip request) for two main dishes, a beer, a portion of rice and a naan.

Absolutely delicious lunch buffet with a huge array of foods, including a freshly-made roti bar, desserts and salads. The restaurant is beautiful and spacious. Service was great. We all very much enjoyed everything.

Tjey were able to accpmodated us for a limnited tome period for an early dinner. Service was good. The food to hot (pciy) but not too tasty.

Amber puts out a great variety of delicious offerings. I tried it all and all were very good. Highly recommend!

I had been to this awesome restaurant in San Francisco, had a lunch buffet on a Sunday afternoon, they had a very nice spread of tasty Indian food.Plus they had live counters as well. This probably is the best Indian food I have had in San Francisco. They are a little highly priced something like $33 including taxes for a buffet on a Sunday but worth the money when it comes to quality of food and the ambience. The variety they had included from South Indian to chats to North Indian and non vegetarian dishes and some lips smacking desserts.

Had dinner here with my sis and bro in laws as well as my hubby. Saw that the reviews were great in this restaurant so decided to eat here. I would say the place did not disappoint, ambience was good and food was decent. Their dum biryani is amazing. I would say, however, that curry dishes are not their forte. Having eaten many varieties of Indian food, their curries are far from authentic. I say it’s flavor is more suited for Western palate.

First night in San Francisco. No reservation for a restaurant and so took a look at Tripadvisor to see what was nearby. We came across Amber and decided after reading the reviews to give it a go. We were seated straight away and our waitress was polite and helpful. The place was incredibly busy and noisy but had a lovely cosy setting. From the attire of the other customers, I would suggest it was popular with locals who come for dinner after work. The food was delicious and each different dish had its own unique flavour. Quite pricey compared to UK Indian restaurants but was tasty. We usually struggle to find a good Indian restaurant in the US but Amber did not disappoint.

One of the best Indian restaurants I have dined at. Went there for their lunch buffet and I became an instant fan
Ok food, overpriced, so-so service
This is a high-end restaurant , which means I should have known better. The food was fine but way over priced for what you get: expect to pay north of 40 for a meal, not including drinks. The service while not bad was not at all to the standard expected at a restaurant of this status.
