Everything but the food was great!

By BDAD68 |

Jasmine was our server and she rocked. As expected she catered to the girls who of course had their dolls sitting at the table with them. A little appetizer of cheese and bread and veggies. Then we ordered miniature burgers and hot dogs. Gotta say the burgers tasted like those rubbery burgers you get at Sam's Club in the frozen section. Not entirely convinced it was 100% beef. My wife enjoyed her pasta though. With tip we spent for my wife and I and our two girls over $135. Be happy to go back but if I gotta spend over $100 I would expect the quality of food to be at least a little higher.

Tea at American Girl Place Chicago Cafe

By Nicole T |

This was my daughters' first trip to Chicago or an American Girl Doll store. We had tea in the afternoon, and my daughters' loved that a seat was provided for their dolls. The first thing that I noticed was that there was tape on the floor and on the seats to cover holes, which I thought was odd for someplace that charges $17 for a chicken sandwich. I understand that it's about the experience, but the place just seemed kind of run down. Our waitress was SO SLOW, especially for the restaurant only being about half full! It took 10 minutes for her to come to our table for a drink order, and then another 10 minutes to bring the drinks and take our order. We were able to figure out things to do during this time, but I can see how it would be extremely difficult for a family with younger girls. The food was average. My youngest liked the pasta with butter, but my older didn't care for the burger. My chicken sandwich was dry (again, paying for the experience). Between the time that we finished our meal (the waitress took our plates away), to the time we got our bill was 15 minutes. Then, the time from her taking our credit cards to bringing it back to us was 15 minutes. While this was all about the experience, I would definitely say that the experience didn't live up to the hype or make me want to come back and do the experience again.

Good Food and Great Service!

By Liltrock |

We treated our 8 year old to a Valentine's Day dinner at the cafe. Everyone in our party of 5 left full and happy with the yummy food and friendly experience. American Girl gets a thumbs up from our family! The service was quick, but not rushed. Our server, Terrance, is an asset to the cafe.

Delightful Experience

By landiiiks |

Very cute decor, four courses of food - not gourmet but better than just ok, and friendly servers. The doll gets a seat at the table and her own cup and saucer. There are a lot of little details that reflected the thought that went into providing the experience. All in all, my granddaughter loved it, and I enjoyed it maybe a bit more than I thought I would!

Special day for my daughter and all

By Laudani777 |

Loved this outing with my 7 year old daughter for her birthday. We had brunch there. The food was pricy but good and they served you a lot of food. The waitress did her best to make the meal special and I lived the conversation cards on the table. We learned a bit about each other and my daughter loved the saucer and cup for her AG doll. She also loved including her doll on the event. Nice special outing for the 2 of us. I wouldn't bring my 2 boys along just because of the price buy for a girl date it was a fabulous time and worth the $$.

👑 Princess For A Day 👑⚘🎂

By Jane B |

We booked our daughter's 8th birthday party at American Girl Chicago. Yes, it was a Saturday. Yes, it was crazy, but we wouldn't have wanted to be anywhere else. Our daughter invited 3 friends and there is one private dining room in the cafe. We booked this and yes, it's not cheap, but we really enjoyed every minute! Our waitresses "Jasmine" & "Ruby" were wonderful. Friendly & helpful. The girls got to do several crafts while in between courses. Food was excellent. Many selections for even the tiniest picky eater. 😊 Also, our doll stylist "Jackie" was thee Best!! What really impressed me was how everyone interacted with the girls. Addressing them by name & making them feel so special. Yes, it's not inexpensive, but if you really want your little girl to feel like a Princess, a trip to American Girl in Chicago is a MUST!!! (We didn't take advantage of it, because we live in the area, but several nearby hotels have Special "American Girl" packages where they receive an "American Girl" bed/blanket) Look into it if you are visiting out of town. ) Many Thanks again to Jasmine, Ruby & Jackie for an unforgettable experience.

Birthday Brunch Package

By 13DAVA |

The American Girl Place Cafe is on the second floor of the American Girl Place Store, inside of Water Tower Place. First and foremost, make a reservation for any of the meal experiences and arrive a few minutes before your seating. Guests are allotted a one-hour reservation, and then they have to turn the tables for the next group. We opted for the brunch, which has only one start time, 9:30am. We were seated immediately, and although we had a waiter, several different staff checked on us throughout the meal. At the time of this writing, standard brunch is a flat $19/person, not counting excluded or alcoholic beverages. We opted for the birthday package, which included goodie bags for the two girls in our party, a paper crown for the birthday girl, and a small birthday cake and ice cream. You cannot order the regular desert menu with this package. One of the adults in our party is gluten-free and they brought a GF muffin for her with the cake, a nice touch. The cake was adorable and surprisingly good, with a large piece left over to take home. As of this writing, the cost was $34/child and $26/adult. Our total with tax and tip (nothing was ordered outside of the included menu) was about $200. The receipt has suggested tip amounts for quick reference. The food is basic diner quality (think Denny's or your standard corner diner), but all kid friendly. The pancakes are shaped like hearts, which is a nice touch. The french toast has cinnamon apples on it but they will put it in a cup on the side for you if you ask. GF options include scrambled eggs or a Southwestern skillet. If the kids bring dolls, they are seated at the table and receive a cup and saucer the kids get to take home. The napkin rings are hair ties, which you also get to keep. Kids who don't have dolls can "borrow" one, and they receive the same goodies included in the package. Cups and hair ties come with every package. The service was good, but nothing over the top. Our food took a little longer than expected and the dining room was not full. The birthday girl's guest ate about two bites of food, so it was a steep price to pay, but the birthday girl had the time of her life. I would recommend this only if your little one is nuts about AG, you have a small party, and they're at an age where they can really appreciate it. This is a once per kid kind of event. If you have more than one daughter, I recommend doing this with them individually - it makes for a really special mom and me day where she gets your full attention. Since the cafe is in the AG store, we had a doll's hair fixed while we dined, and the birthday girl purchased a new doll as her collective birthday gift. Know that between parking (if necessary), the meal and the store, this will not be a cheap day, even with managing expectations.

Birthday Lunch

We could not have asked for a better experience. The food was served hot, fresh, and tasty. Our server went above and beyond to make it a great visit.

Granddaughter's Third BIrthday

By Jeanne P |

My daughter, me (Gigi) and my granddaughter arrived to celebrate my granddaughters third birthday. My granddaughters birthday luncheon was reserved months ahead of arrival. The décor is fabulous with pinks, white and black throughout the restaurant. The booths are so cute with big colorful polka dots. As you are escorted to your seats your baby doll is given a pink high chair that attaches to the table so she can have lunch with you. My granddaughter was given a pink birthday hat and a happy birthday sticker. Service was by far some of the best I have ever experienced. The lunch includes sticky buns which my granddaughter misunderstood and thought the waiter said stinky buns lol, followed by an appetizer tray of hummus, ranch dressing, bruschetta mix, vegetables and toasted bread. You choose from a menu for your meal. Our dessert was a pink birthday cake with candles and the staff sang Happy Birthday. The pink lemonade is wonderful. Our waitress was constantly refilling our glasses without us having to ask. I was truly impressed.

Once is enough!

By heather B |

Atmosphere is adorable! The fact that the dolls can sit in a booster seat at the table with their own little cup and plate also adorable. Granddaughter loved that! Service was meh. The food was expensive and overrated. Adult cob salad with salmon added was ok at $18. Kids meals were a fixed $19 for mac n cheese with paprika heavily sprinkled on top, cold fries and a drink! Really?!! When we complained the meal was replaced with warm fries and chicken tenders (which was better). The other granddaughter barely touched the meal. Having an ala carte menu for kids would have been preferred. In the future will have lunch elsewhere prior to visiting store again

Great for birthdays!

By M L |

We've been here twice! Both times it was for birthday parties (one was for dinner and the other for lunch). Each time the service and food was fantastic! Be sure to bring your doll because there's a place for her as well! If you don't have a doll, there's no need to worry, they'll let you borrow one! Travelers tip: if you are shopping at the Water Tower, use the American Girl restrooms! They are way nicer & cleaner than most! Plus there's a place to hang your doll!

Great experience for a litte one. Terrible food

By kk1135805 |

I had read the food wasn't the greatest but it was actually almost inedible. I got the cobb salad with added chicken. The chicken tasted like it was microwaved too long and I couldn't even bite it. The smell coming from it was so bad that I literally didn't eat more than 2 bites. The appetizer -pretzel sticks and veggies- was gross...the pretzels were cold and the veggies colder although cooked? The only good thing was the desert which was a warm cookie with ice cream. Ok so the ONLY reason I gave this any stars or would come back is because my 3 year old have such a great time. She loved sitting with her baby and with cup and saucer. She was however a bit bored with it quickly. Maybe if mama was eating she would have enjoyed it more.

A very special birthday

By Larisa D |

My daughter went to American Girl cafe for a friends' birthday party and had such a wonderful time that she decided to have her own birthday celebration here as well. At first I was hesitant as the cost per person was higher than I usually expect for a child's meal. But after having had the experience personally I would say it was worth the price. It's more about the whole experience and added bells and whistles than the food. But I was pleasantly surprised that the food was actually pretty good as well. Most importantly, my daughter was thrilled with her birthday celebration. The service was excellent. The girls all received special goody bags with items for themselves and their dolls. The birthday song from the staff was a big hit with my daughter! And as a parent I thought the reservation process, follow up confirmation and attention to the details were all excellent. Definitely recommend for a special occasion.

Best Birthday Lunch for Mom and Daughter date

By Sue Grace |

Fantastic way to spend a 10th birthday with your special girl. Everyone very nice. Food quite good. Very thing about the dolls and pink. Really memorable. Not cheap, but worth it.

Painful at best

By KristopherTremblay |

Ugh. A birthday breakfast for our daughter, this was one of those things that you feel like you have to do to be a good parent. Open your wallet, grit your teeth, and get the Dad of the Year Award. For $8, the breakfast was okay, but considering that it cost $19 per person, I walked out of there feeling violated. That said, the staff was excellent, service was very attentive, and our waiter Carlos did everything right. But at the end of the day, paying $80 including tip for a pancake breakfast for three is hardly justifiable. It makes paying way too much money for a doll seem like a good deal.

Amazed

By PeggySeattle |

Went to the American Girl Store to get something for a friend daughter as a souvenir. They had everything imaginable for their dolls. It was quite amazing what they had. If you are going there bring your credit card since EVERYTHING is quite expensive. I bought a outfit for my friends doll. Everything was cute but pricey. Fun place to go especially if you have a little girl

The expression on my daughter's face made it worth it.

By kamsmw |

When my daughter became interested in AG dolls, let's just say I wasn't thrilled, lol. I told her we'd plan a date at the AG Café over spring break waaaay back in January and she has been crazy with excitement ever since then. I have to say, the whole café luncheon was a really great experience. The way all the little girls' eyes are lit up...I think mine did, too. Such a girly-girl place and all the touches to the lunch made it extra special. Terrance was a fantastic server and made it that much better. I think this is definitely a special "must-do" at least once for little girls. I'm so glad we did.

Cute but for what you get, expensive.

By tammijoe1987 |

I would give 5 stars for hype and how they cater to the little girls enjoying their day. But with that being said, they are not the ones paying $22 for grilled ham and cheese sticks. Yes it's 4 courses, but what 6 year old can eat that much? The only adult thing I saw on the menu was a salad. I had a hard time justifying $22 for a salad. With Chicago being known for their Pizza, I was a little disappointed in the Pizza my granddaughter ordered that we also paid $22 for. More of a tourist trap than a destination.

Great place for girls Birthday party

By Dee |

This is a really nice place to have a Birthday party for girls. Al the little friends will get a chance to have a doll sitting besides them. They also got plenty time to play with different American Girl dolls.

Wow--200+ bucks for a crappy lunch and terrible service

By Flizzer |

We've been here many times & know the food isn't the greatest--but usually the service & adorable decor make up for it. Not this time. Our waitress looked like she just rolled out of bed, so I figured we were in trouble. I had to ask multiple times for our drinks, & place settings for the dolls--hello, this is why we're here. They changed the appetizers in the summer, and not for the better? Really? Bruschetta & hummus for kids? The fruit & cheese was much better. If we didn't know from previous visits we could take certain things home we wouldn't have. End of a biannual tradition for us.

Very cute brunch

By KC D |

This restaurant creates a great atmosphere for the kids to enjoy a meal with their dolls. They really make the kids and their interest in their dolls feel important. The service was great with everyone being extremely friendly and accommodating. The food is a little pricey for what you get. The Brunch includes mini cinnamon rolls, a choice from a menu option, a drink, and dessert. The food was pretty good and the kids loved their experience.

Worth every penny

By Jennifer V |

We (aunt, mom, grandma) took my niece there for her Bday celebration and it was wonderful. Seating was organized and prompt with a prearranged reserved seating time. The room was decorated adorable, pink and black and gervie daisies, everything matching and coordinated. Our server greeted us with delicious mini cinnamon buns. Our server Terrance was so sweet, he added to the experience and had us laughing and smiling. Nice choice of menu items and beverages. We all ordered something different and were each pleasantly surprised with how delicious each meal was. And good portion sizes. The flower potted mousse and mini cupcake and cookies were plated adorably and super tasty. My niece got to keep the tea cup and saucer given to her doll who recieved her own chair at the table. And we each recived a little bow pony tail holder and daisy to keep. Overall great expeience, delicious food, friendly staff, adorable decor.... And a great value!

Great experience!

We enjoyed two visits to the American Girl Place Café on our weekend visit to Chicago. We enjoyed tea on Saturday and dinner on Sunday and both were very well done. We have been to four other American Girl Place Cafes around the country and this was definitely a good one!

OUTSTANDING EXPERIENCE!!!!

By Cheech1221 |

My daughter and I planned a visit to American Girl months ago and booked lunch for the two of us. I was expecting an average meal with small portions but instead we both had the most amazing experience. Let me start with the decor. The restaurant is decorated in a hot pink, black and white theme. It is every little girl (and big girl's) dream. No detail is left out. Even the bathroom was impressive, with hooks to hold your doll while you used the toilet or washed your hands. Service was by far some of the best I'd experienced. Everyone was happy, helpful and dedicated to making the experience a good one. The lunch is a set price of $22 and it includes: cinnamon buns followed by an appetizer tray of hummus, ranch dressing, bruscetta mix, vegetables and toasted bread. We had a choice of many options for lunch. My daughter chose the grilled chicken Caesar salad and I had the blue cheese burger with fries. Both of our meals were not only very filling but also very tasty. The only negative here for my daughter is that the chicken was not warm and that threw her off a bit. Neither of us could finish our food because there was so much. After our meal dessert came: a mini vanilla cupcake and a flowerpot chocolate mousse. Both were devine. We also enjoyed unlimited refills of our choice of beverages (alcoholic beverages were available but not part of the all inclusive menu). Our waitress was constantly refilling our glasses without us having to ask. Bonus...the napkin rings are beautiful take home hair-ties and my daughter's dolls were given seats at the table as well as a take home cup and saucer each. We so enjoyed the experience that we did not want to leave. I told the manager who came by to ask how we were doing, that I would like return for lunch even without my daughter because of the meal, the service and the whole experience. While the dolls and accessories can truly break the bank, the lunch experience was very worth the $22. We both gave it 2 thumbs up!

Every little girl should eat here!

Experienced this wonderful restaurant along with two granddaughter 6 & 8. Don't be fooled that it's all about the dolls. The food was above average. I had the crab cake sandwich. Also served beer & cocktails. Recommend the Bloody Mary.

Cute Experience to do Once!

By Alison G |

I booked lunch at the Café for my daughters 5th birthday. Things we loved: -The cute girly pink room -The attention to the doll (own chair, plate & cup) -The birthday package was a good deal for us: a beautiful cake, happy birthday, and little goody bag with doll accessories. -Unlimited pink lemonade! Things they need to improve on: -Very rushed, online it does say its only an hour, but I never realized how quick eating in an hour is. As soon as you are sitting down they are getting your food and drink orders. I felt bad for the table next to us, they arrived half way through and had to be done when we were, so they barely sat down and food was starting to come out to them. So don't be late as you wont get extra time! -The happy birthdays are one after another. Luckily we were the first ones to get ours otherwise I don't think it would feel as special. -The hamburger was Not good. Fast food is better, which is sad for the price, but all other food was good. It was a great experience to celebrate my daughters birthday. I would come back, but only for very special occasions.

A fun time for the children

By Rob |

The atmosphere was very cute for children (especially aimed at those who enjoy pink and American Girl dolls). First, we had no wait getting a table given our reservation. There were numerous 'servers', one who brought drinks, another who helped put the dolls that we brought into chairs that connect to the table (also bringing them little place mats, plates and cups), another who brought our delicious cinnamon bun appetizer, another who took our order, another who brought the food with the one who took the order, and another who helped clear the table after we ate. All in all a good experience, with very generous food portions and positive staff. I'd recommend to anybody who has a child who enjoys this type of setting, specifically for celebrating something such as a birthday.

It was just okay

By lgoodan |

It was my daughters first visit and I am glad we got to go but the experience was just okay. I guess I was expecting more from what I have seen online. The store was nice on the inside but I thought it would be more decorated with that wow factor than it really was. We did find everything we needed and afterwards ate at the cafe. The food was average. I am not being mean when I say this…but the French fries looked and tasted like McDonald’s French fries plus…mine were cold. My daughter said her cheese pizza wasn’t very good and I do realize that that is her perception. They got my husband’s order wrong and they were very apologetic about it and deducted the cost from our meal which was really nice of them! It just wasnt what I was expecting for a meal that cost over 100 dollars. Waiter was very nice. Overall, I am glad we went and my daughter enjoyed her time there. However, for the cost and experience that so many girls and families come for….AG you need to take it to the next level and I say that in the nicest way that I can.😊

Afternoon tea and doll spa

By Andrea L |

Lovely afternoon tea at the cafe. Servers were so sweet, including my daughter and her doll in the festivities. Super stylist paid attention to detail when styling the doll hair.

Must do!

By LizzieMic |

We have had the pleasure of eating in the Cafe twice! Both times were extremely well done! I have to admit, the first time I wasn't expecting the food or service to be the top, but okay. Wow were my expectations changed! The food was very good and the service was over the top! They are so patient with the kids and help do everything they can to make this a fabulous experience. Both were consistent both times we visited! We went back to celebrate upcoming birthdays because it was so special. Our first visit, we noticed a lot of birthday celebrations going on. When I asked our 10 and 7 yr olds if they would like to come back to celebrate their birthdays---YES--without one hesitation! We were not disappointed!

Lunch visit with our children

By MissBuffalo |

After shopping at the store , we headed over for lunch ( we made a reservation about 2 weeks ahead of time ). We were seated promptly and lead to a nice table by the window. They allow the children to choose from a number of dolls ( both male and female) while eating at no charge. **Note - this is a smart idea even if you purchase a doll so the doll doesn’t get anything spilled on it. The server brought each of us our drinks and also gave each of the dolls their own tea cups and saucers as well ( a keepsake for the child when they leave ). The menu had a number of options for both adults and children and also met the dietary needs of one of us who had a food sensitivity. The food was surprisingly very good — much better than we anticipated. Overall a very fun and special experience for all !

Food is decent, but overpriced

By happytraveler49 |

Our granddaughters truly enjoyed the whole American Girl experience, including lunch at the Cafe. Having their dolls sitting next to them in their very own chairs with their own placemat, plate and glass made it extra special. Although the food was decent, it was WAY overpriced!!!! I am sorry, but paying $19 for buttered noodles with a breadstick is exorbitant. It just wasn't worth the price we paid, but as I said, the granddaughters loved it!

Surprisingly delicious and filling!

By skaza4 |

Not only was the cafe elegant and professional, but the food was terrific and you leave FULL! I was skeptical looking at the price and assuming that "it's a doll store for little girls, how is an adult going to fit in", but I was blown away by the portions and the quality of the food. My advice is to stick with the water or pink lemonade. The bottles of soda they give you are very small for the big price and you pay for each one. Aside from that, it's a delightful experience that your little girl(s) will enjoy.

Terrible

By Sri |

Definitely do not go here. Took 1hr to take my order and continuously brought out the wrong order. Wrong drinks, couldn't accommodate a simple non-dairy menu

Needs improvement

By dlw240 |

I took my my daughter-in-law and 3-year-old granddaughter to store and then to the cafe for lunch. She is probably a little young to really enjoy it, but her mom grew up with American Girl dolls and really wanted to have the experience. It’s wonderful they have the high chairs for the dolls, and my granddaughter brought her Bitty baby just for that reason. It was also sweet that the server brought a small placemat, plate and glass for the doll, and these can be taken home. The place is beautifully decorated, and I appreciate being able to make a reservation. For older girls, there are ‘conversation starter’ cards on the table which was fun. I expect to pay more for food at a restaurant like this where you are also paying for the experience. The lunch prices weren’t bad for my Cobb salad ($14) and chicken sandwich with sweet potato fries, which were great ($16). Both meals were good and plentiful. The kids meal, however, is another story...$19. My granddaughter had 2 chicken strips, fries (just ok), some small pieces of shaped fruit on a skewer, and a drink. The $19 price tag on this is ridiculous. I would never go back to the cafe for this reason alone. My other disappointment would be with the servers. While ours was nice enough, there isn’t a lot of friendliness and enthusiasm that I observed from any of the servers there, especially when singing happy birthday and bringing the special cake and gift bags for the party package, and at least three of these were taking place while we had lunch. This is a once-in-a-lifetime experience for many people....come on, servers, make it count! Put a little heart into it, please. I love what American Girl stands for...wish they would make this a better experience for people and to make the price something more reasonable and affordable for families, especially rh3 price of that kids meal.

American Girl Gr8

By Marilyn S |

Six of us had the Am girl experience for my granddaughter's 9th birthday. Read their website for the many options and heads up information. Although it was early on a Saturday morning (9:30 am) and we were all from out of town, it was the best in timing. Parking fees were lower to due early morning; there were fewer crowds driving and for shopping; it was easy to sign up for doll salon, doll ear piercing, magazine photo op. Upon our arrival, an extremely nice greeter took our pictures. My granddaughter's eyes grew larger as we passed each display on our way to check in at the cafe. The cafe is wonderfully decorated; the servers were friendly, upbeat and accommodating. She got a special sticker for her and her doll and Happy Birthday was sung to her. For a higher price per person the birthday experience had a few more extras. The conversation starters on the table were fun, but we kept getting off track by everything around us and steady flow of food. The breakfast was reasonably priced and served hot; beverages, meal, and dessert were great. After breakfast, the doll had her hair braided into a heart! Doll outfits came fully accessorized and moderately priced. My granddaughter and her doll got look alike outfits, books and video; dressing rooms and staff were readily available to assist in every way. We all left Am Girl ready for a nap!

Birthday Lunch

By Donna S |

This is a bit of a mixed review. First the good....we went as part of my daughter's birthday celebration as she loves AG. You should do the experience at least once if your daughter is into AG. The dining room was pink and girly...and just what you would want for the occasion. The server was very friendly and they do pay special attention to the children - talking to them, asking them questions, making a deal out of their birthday, etc. That is all nicely done. As part of the lunch, I purchased a birthday celebration package - it came with a few little extras. The birthday cake was very cute.....but way too much cake for the 3 of us. Overall, the friendliness, the service, and the atmosphere were the pros. The downside is that the food was not very good - at those prices, I would expect better food....which brings us to the next con, the expense. You are paying for the fact that it's associated with AG. It was special and fun for my daughter, who loved it....which is why I did it. Once was enough though...I would recommend it but go in knowing what to expect....you are doing it for your daughter, not yourself :)

Great place to take the kids for a special brunch

By AlongftTrip |

We enjoyed brunch here and had a great time! If you have a special person who loves American Girl, this is such a great place to take them and have a special meal. No detail is forgotten. Staff is courteous and they make sure that everyone is having a great time. Food: The brunch menu is prix fixe and includes a choice of entree along with drinks, cinnamon buns, and lots of cuteness. We all ordered something different and we felt it was all above average. For a great experience with kids, American Girl delivers and we felt is was a pretty good value considering the other high-priced fare in the area. Bonus: be sure to take your American Girl besties and they have a place of honor right at the table!

Trip with my 5 year old granddaughter

By ASchnauzer |

My daughter , granddaughter and I enjoyed a lovely lunch a the Cafe. Many people get in line a half hour early, I don't know why. You make a reservation online and confirm it-so you have a place. The menu is available for preview online, a little pricey, but this is a special treat ! I think you must have the pink lemonade to drink. Go to the restroom with your doll, just to see how cute it is. The food isn't gourmet, but it is good. Extra cheesy Mac and cheese for my sweetie, a large chicken breast sandwich for both moms. The desserts are just too adorable-cupcakes and flowerpot mousse. Wait staff is pleasant and brought us extra scrunchees when one of ours popped. Lots of walking lots of tempting things to buy. But a fun place for a one time lunch.

Adorable!

I highly recommend this place if you have young girls. Nestled inside the American Girl store, the cafe is filled with girly decor, and is just plain adorable.

Great visit

My daughter is 8. She was the perfect age for this. I thought it was over priced but I would do it again. My daughter loved it! You get a ton of food!

Great Food and Service for Young and Old

By Georgesec |

While you might not expect this kind of a themed restaurant to have a balanced offering, the American Girl Place Cafe was great! It has an atmosphere perfect for young girls (five nieces who were having so much fun!) and menu selections for the girls and for the parents and for the aunts and uncles! The staff were great, and the ability to borrow an American Girl doll to share your meal was a real treat for the five little ladies in our group.

Disappointed

By HawaiianHoneymoon |

We took our daughters ages 3,5,7 for dinner at AG cafe. Overall, the cafe is nicely decorated and pleasing to the eye. The girls loved having their dolls eat with them but noticed cafe also had some dolls to borrow. The girls enjoyed the butterfly pasta. My husband I were less than impressed with the burger and Parmesan. The service was friendly but not attentive. The girls had fun but our oldest said she would've been just as happy to just shop in the store and not dine. For the expense and time spent at the cafe, we will not do again in the future.

Lovely For a Birthday Celebration

By LCL-travels |

We celebrated a four-year old's birthday at the American Girl Chicago Cafe. It was lovely. We had ordered the birthday package that includes special surprises, which I won't divulge. The small all-inclusive menu has several courses including a three-tiered appetizer tray; main courses that children would enjoy -- like macaroni and cheese; and milk, lemonade, coffee or iced tea. Girls bring their American Girl dolls to the lunch and are provided with a special booster for their dolls to join them at the meal. The day we were there, other guests included a group of about eight young women wearing bridesmaid's baseball caps accompanied by their American Girl dolls.

A fun day

By scootch713 |

We had brunch here. I had Eggs Benedict and it was delicious. My daughter had pancakes and they were a bit thick. Noticed the little girl at the next table did not care for her either. Staff was engaging. Gave us a beautiful table next to the window. Great family experience.

Fabulous! MUST DO!

By ReeReeRocks |

Expensive but very large portions to eat and fun mementos to take home (doll tea cup and bow hair tie "napkin rings"). We had wanted to reserve the afternoon tea, but it was full - however we were still lucky to get a dinner seating on our preferred day (book as early as possible!). It was adorable to have my niece's doll seated next to her at the table. Our server refilled all our drinks multiple times (hot chocolate, iced tea, diet coke... ). Although our time was limited we did not feel rushed. Everything was super organized and efficient - it had to be! Our server did her best to make our little girl feel special. I think adults enjoy the experience as much as the children! Worth the expense.

I think this is a great experience

By IndianapolisMK |

My mother and I have taken my daughter here for years. I think for Chicago the food is decent and reasonable. The presentation is very cute and they think of everything. I see people complaining about the food on the reviews, but for $22 in Chicago to get two appetizers, a main meal and dessert is a steal. I got the salad and my daughter had the burger and fries this time. Both were better than fast food any day. If you are expecting some prepared to order, chef-inspired food- go elsewhere. If you want a good meal in a fun atmosphere this place is great.

Memorable lunch!

By RKJL |

My mother and I took my 6 year old daughter for lunch at the cafe after she picked out her first AG Doll. All three of us enjoyed the meal and are thankful that we decided to make reservations to eat at this cafe. We heard from others that it is very expensive and not worth it. We are glad we didn't listen to them. We had a wonderful time!!! This made for a memorable birthday celebration for my little girl. We highly recommend eating at this cafe!!!

Best Friends Love It!

Our daughter and friend enjoyed an American Girl Cafe brunch and a little shopping for a new friend. Service wonderful and food ample with good taste. Pricey but worth it for the little ones. Excellent liquor for adults and the Quiche Lorraine was perfect.

Fabulous Fun!

Not only did our 8 year old daughter feel special but our son, my husband and I loved the food, atmosphere and entire experience! AG, you are well worth it!

Would you like some dessert with your dessert?

By MarcJfromSA |

We took our daughter here (along with her brother) for breakfast. The restaurant was very clean and the food was very good. A great place to eat if you have a sweet tooth. The meal starts with an appetizer of cinnamon buns for each person, then your choice of entree (our party had the pancakes, french toast, and breakfast sandwich... all were very good). The meal finishes off with a cupcake and cup of mousse. You get to keep the napkin rings (which are hair scrunchies for the girls and dolls) and the fake daisies that are in the mousse. Although it is a little pricey, it is really not that overly expensive for the amount of food you get and the "extras".

It's American Girl!

By DoorCountyDenizen |

My wife and I took our three school age daughters and newborn here on Black Friday for shopping and dinner. Excellent service, humorous with a light touch for the kids. Food was good with multiple courses. I thought the salmon Florentine was quite tasty. Wine was available by the glass. Well worth the money as a one-time experience for girls who are into American Girl dolls.

Great for little girls but...

By KapriH83 |

We visited the American Girl Cafe for my daughter's 7th birthday. She was fascinated by everything. However, for $35 per child and $25 per adult, it wasn't worth it. We made our reservations a month in advance. When we got there, everybody who had a reservation had to wait outside the dining area. They let us all in at the same time, like cattle, and guided us to our table. The staff was very nice, but you could tell they were moving very quickly. The cafe is a birthday machine. While they sang Happy Birthday to my daughter, there were literally 2 other birthday songs going on at different tables. Within 10 minutes, at least 7 birthday songs had been sang. After they sang the song, the server asked us if she would like us to box up the cake. What? We would like to eat it here!! We felt rushed. Skip the cafe experience and go to the Cheesecake factory across the street.

What a fun girls day!

By nagiffag |

Our party of 5 arrived early and checked in for our 930 am Sunday brunch. The store opened at 9am so we shopped for a little bit. At 930 the doors opened. We were shown to our tables and each of the dolls was seated in a chair they attached to the side of the table. They had a box of little cards on the table where you ask each other questions which keeps the kids occupied. We ordered eggs benedict, a skillet and three orders of french toast. The eggs benedict was really good. My daughter didn't eat her french toast because it had apples on it. She had planned to get the pancakes, so I don't know why she copied the other girls' orders. We also had the cute little flower pot mousse and a cupcake. It was really well done and I didn't think it was expensive. For $19 per person we spent an hour there, laughed, interacted, posed for pictures, ate good food, each girl got to keep a cup and saucer set and each person got to keep a hairbow on a pony o. Now my daughter wants to have her birthday party there. We will definitely return!

Well worth the trip

By TDNY |

We were visiting a friend in Chicago and she made reservations for us and our two daughters (4 and 5 years old) for lunch. I wasn't that excited, how good can a kids restaurant be? Not only was the food great, but the service and entire experience was fantastic. They start the meal with mini sticky buns, and the next course is veggies and giant pretzel sticks. And that's all before your lunch even arrives. I had the salad, my friend the quiche, and the girls had a mix of hotdogs & mac and cheese. Everything was tasty, so much more than I expected from a mass produced kind of place. For as large as the place was it did not feel crowded, and it did not feel like we had to wait a long time for our meals, drink refills, or anything else we needed. The hair ties and doll cup & saucer for the girls to keep were a nice touch. The entire thing was very well done and well worth the $20 per person.

Unforgettable experience for your little girl!

My daughters are now 14 and 16, and we took tea in the café about 8 years ago. We still talk about the visit, and they wanted to re-visit it during our vacation here this week. This time, we brought my 5 year old granddaughter, and she was just as enchanted! We forgot to bring a doll, but they have some to borrow, and the doll gets to sit next to the child, and is even provided with a tiny cup which you get to take home. As most parents already know, this is a very expensive place, but I would highly recommend it if your child is interested in AG dolls.

nice place

If you have a daughter or a granddaughter take them here. They make have a meal here so special for them. Service is great and so is the food. Something they will remember forever

Lowest level service of all AG Cafes

By msmccorm |

I booked our reservation months in advance, a table for three. When we arrived we were seated at a table for two and told they would pull over another chair. With the doll high chair and actually wanting to eat, this was not going to work. One of the members of our party left and had lunch elsewhere. The staff was clearly overwhelmed and had not planned the seating correctly. The manager mentioned she was sorry, but could not fix the issue so we could have lunch together. This ruined the experience for my daughter.

Nice experience!

By Barbara W |

As much as I enjoyed the "Tea" I don't think my 8 year old niece was too impressed, although she did have 4 glasses of pink lemonade. I enjoyed the food, she was a little picky about it. She did enjoy the ambiance. The staff is extremely attentive.

Wonderful place to celebrate birthday

By Darlene T |

We made reservations two months in advance since the first time we visited did not know we needed them and it was worth it. Our granddaughter had a birthday the week before and we should have made this a celebration for her. Although she was delighted to be there. Take your doll since she eats with you in a special seat. Food was very good but presentation was the best.

Pleasantly Surprised!

By travellingbird888 |

I was sceptical that this might be not worth the price tag, but was pleasantly surprised by the experience. We did the brunch on a Sunday morning for $19. I was able to make the reservation less than a week in advance, despite not being able to get Saturday. The restaurant was maybe 1/3 full. The wait staff was very pleasant, and attentive. The food was good, was it amazing, absolutely not, but very edible and perfect for kids (pancake shaped pancakes with flower fruit kebabs). The napkin rings double as hair ties which the girls get to keep, and the dolls get to keep their tea cups. On the table was a little box of questions to ask each other (ex. What was your biggest surprise in life?) which was fun and kept the kids all very happy - not a single iPad in site! If your child is in to American Girl, I have no doubt they'd be happy with the experience.

Disappointed with the so called "afternoon Tea"

By Monica |

I was a bit disappointed with the Tea party experience at American Doll. It was for my daughter birthday so we went with the birthday package so it was very expensive. the place was cute. our waitress was very nice but the whole tea experience was just Blaa!! So the whole purpose of a tea party is because little girls love tea parties. sit in little chairs and drink pretend tea out little cups! I though of taking my own cups as I have before to the Ritz so she can have fun but figured this is a tea party especial designed for little girls! boy was I wrong. the brought the cute small food (witch was just ok) they asked for drinks and that was it. mid lunch I had to ask if we were actually going to have tea and if my daughter would be serve tea or something in a special cup but the answer was no! we adults had tea and the kids got their big cup of whatever they want in a big plastic cup, So was super disappointed. The cake was cute and they get a little goodie bag witch every girl likes to take home a few extra trinkets so it made her happy but I would not categorize this as a girls tea party!

Decent food, cute

By KimCarlKids |

you are forced to get the 5 course meal with a few selections. The service was good and food was good, not great. Wish we had more choices from the menu. Table was small for four. Dessert was good. Great overall experience.

Great place, good food with awesome service!

By Eman M |

Love this place, my girls enjoyed every second of it, having their dolls seated with us made the experience even more special! The appetizer and the dessert would be the highlights of the meal for me. Their chicken potpie is really good and well made! Thanks for the great service!

Worth it for the kids

By ChicagoFamily2010 |

I think this is worth doing once for your little girls. The food is OK and the staff is very nice. The kids loved it! There is a $25 set menu including soda. There is booze available if you need the help. Ha! There are seating times, so be on time and know you will be booted for the next seating.

Fun time

By Claire |

The food was great but overpriced. The girls had a great time and liked the doll chairs, plate and bowl.

Tea for four

By Chris M |

Tea with my granddaughters new doll at the AG cafe. It was very cute and the food was displayed nicely - although just average in taste. The doll had her own chair with cup and saucer. The staff were very nice and friendly. The downside was we waited crammed together in the lobby for at least 20 minutes past our tea time (after being told to arrive 15 minutes early), and it was really hot and stuffy. It is also very overpriced for what you get. You are paying for the experience not the food and my granddaughter did love it!

If you're into the dolls, you'll love it

By Megan K |

We had the 4PM tea with our 5 year old daughters. The girls aren't quite into the dolls yet, but the service is great and the selection of finger foods and dessert was very nice. I thought it was a reasonable price for the atmosphere and food provided.

Good for the Grand daughters....

By Susan S |

..not so good for Grandparents and Mom! The girls, 7 & 8, and their dolls truly enjoyed the whole experience. Food was good, but not very generous portions and over priced. Also felt that the wait staff was just going thru the motions; never spoke to the girls.

Just do it! You won't regret this experience for your daughter!

By LindsayandAaron |

On Saturday evening we had dinner at the American Girl Cafe! It was a wonderful experience for all of us! My husband and I really enjoyed the meal, the food was GREAT! Our daughters, age 2 and 5 loved dining with the dolls at our table. We did not have our dolls along so we "borrowed" dolls from the restaurant. They have two bookcases of dolls available to adopt for your dining experience. Our server "Terrance" was one of the best servers I have ever had. He made our girls feel like true princesses and provided us with a great dining experience. The atmosphere of the restaurant is adorable and your take home souvenir is the cute hair bow that holds your napkin together. The meal was affordable at $23.00 per person. This entails a non-alcoholic drink with endless refills, appetizer spread that included artichoke dip, cheese, veggie sticks with ranch dressing, several meal options for both kids and adult taste and a really tasty chocolate mousse and vanilla cupcake for dessert. I would highly recommend! It will make your little girl's day! Please be sure to make reservations.

Happy Birthday, truly Happy

By Shayne U |

We had 4 generations enjoying the 6th birthday of my Grand-daughter. After shopping for an hour we enjoyed a lovely lunch served by Tim. The table was set in pink with the napkins held together with hair bands, to take home for my grand-daughter and her American girl. A booster seat was provided for her American girl and the lunch began. Cinnamon rolls, followed up with a veggie tray. Then everyone had their choice. I had the chicken salad. My mom and daughter had the quiche and my grand-daughter had pepperoni pizza. Beverages were included in the lunch. Then for dessert they had a chocolate mousse in a flower pot with a daisy in it, also to take home and a cupcake with a cookie on top. What a great way to celebrate a birthday.

Best Restaurant Ever

By Fixerupperwifan |

My daughter kept saying that this was the best restaurant ever! The portions were large and it was good food! My girls were thrilled to be offered seats for their dolls. Their mouths were open when they set place settings for the dolls and told the girls they could take those home. They loved the flower at the end on their dessert too. It felt so special and fancy with the white tablecloths and cloth napkins. We would recommend!!

You have to go if you have a daughter!

By Kelly C |

We have been to the Chicago café twice now and had great experiences both times. The service was good and the food was as well! They do a great job incorporating the dolls at the table. The prices for dinner ~ $25 each is okay. Worth it for the adult meals (both our meals were good quality), but you pay the same price for the kids meals which are pizza/nugget fare. But all together, it's worth it for a night for the experience. We spent a weekend in Chicago in November and my 11 year old (who is growing out of the American Girl stage) said that dining in the restaurant was her favorite part of the trip. Can't beat that!

Be sure to do high tea!

By Kathy J |

This was a great experience for adults and kids. So nice to see so many dads at high tea with their girls.

Surprisingly good food

By BudNLily |

Very pricey. VERY pricey. Kids meals cost as much as adults. The food is good. I was skeptical but pleasantly surprised. The service was good and the kids really enjoyed themselves. $90+ not including tip for 2 adults and 2 children. It was fun to visit one time.

Excellent Experience

By Heather V |

We had an excellent experience at the AG Cafe! My 3 year old daughter was in heaven! We did lunch-menu for kid $19/child with several typical options such as mac and cheese, pizza, pasta, cheeseburger, chicken tenders! The adult menu includes cocktails, appetizers, and entrees approx $10-25 dollars! The doll high chairs and tea cups are adorable, the staff are great! Can't wait to back for another experience!

Good food, pricey but on par with neighborhood

By Kate W |

You come here because your daughter wants to eat with her doll. My six year old LOVED it. My chicken sandwich was good. The whole area is expensive so the prices are reasonable for the area. I was not impressed with the service.

Everything she dreamed of!

We visited the American Girl Cafe for lunch yesterday (9/16/14). We were just in Chicago for the day, specifically to visit the American Girl Place. I brought my 8 year old daughter and 55+ mother from Kansas City. When we arrived for our 12:30 seating, we were taken directly to our table. The decor was so cute--hot pink, black and white--and I loved the lampshades which were covered in hot pink gerbera daisies. My daughter picked one of the chairs for Saige to sit in. Our server was Keith and he promptly arrived with our cinnamon buns. He was very friendly and kept calling my mom and I the "older sisters." My daughter thought that was hilarious! We ordered our drinks and our lunch. Luis quickly took away any plates/utensils we were finished with. Our appetizer plate consisted of strawberries/cheese, cucumber/celery/carrots, ranch/honey mustard dipping sauce and pretzel buns (which were delicious!). My daughter chose the Bitty Bites (mini hot dog, mini hamburger, mac/cheese and a fruit cabob), my mother choses some sort of pasta marinara with vegetables and I chose the grilled chicken caprese sandwich with a pasta salad. We all felt the portions were very generous and we were stuffed before desert even came out. For desert we had the traditional chocolate mousse and cupcake with a mini cookie on top. The restaurant only had about 10 tables filled. Granted, we specifically picked to travel on a weekday when everyone was already back in school so we could avoid high crowds. Our service was great and the restaurant was quiet. Most of the little girls there were celebrating their birthdays. I definitely feel the $22 per person was worth every penny! The food was good, the atmosphere and service were top notch. My daughter LOVED the hair bow (napkin rings) to take home, the mini tea cup and saucer for Saige, and the daisies from the desert. We will return when we get to take another trip to Chicago!

Accomodating of Special Diets

By Sarah D |

I am not as obsessed with American Girl as my 5 year old, but still found it to be an enjoyable experience. We took about an hour to browse all the displays. The actual dining experience was really nice and not any more than it would have cost us to dine elsewhere. I noted when making the reservation that I was gluten free, and they did a great job of effortlessly accommodating me. As each course came out I was given a substitution without having to ask. The food wasn't gourmet by any means, but it was a good experience for the price!

Girly Fun Cafe!

I absolutely loved this lunch experience and so did my niece and family. The menu is simple yet creative. We had so much fun for tea. Next time we return we are doing dinner.

Pleasantly Surprised!

By Danielle B |

Obviously we went here with a young child (my 7 year old daughter). I did not have high expectations; my boyfriend and I were basically along for my daughter's adventure. She was able to use a high chair for her doll to join us, as well as some cute souvenirs for her to take home as well. (Hair ties, and little dishes for her AG doll). We loved it! It is a fixed price menu, where everyone receives the same appetizers and desserts, and you can choose from a selection of entrees. We got cinnamon rolls to start, which were really only mediocre, followed by soft pretzels with cheese dip, and vegetables and ranch. Very simple, kid friendly, and tasty. My daughter had macaroni and cheese, which she loved, but she's only 7, so her mac and cheese taste is not very discerning. My boyfriend got a bleu cheese burger and fries, and I had a chicken club. We were both very full and very pleased with our meals! The service was friendly and fast. Our server catered to our daughter and made her feel special, while still treating us like adults; not condescending in any way. The manager was walking around the dining room, checking on guests and conversing. Overall, a very positive experience!

Like marmite. Love it

Bring your daughter and her doll, and leave room for dessert.

As a part of my 9-year-old daughter and my trip to the American Girl Place in Chicago last month, we of course had to have lunch in the café. I knew it would be expensive, and I wasn’t expecting the food to be the best, but let’s face it, it’s about the experience, not the food. I made reservations for the 2:30 p.m. seating a couple of weeks before our visit. About a week before our trip, I tried to change to the 12:30 p.m. seating, but it was already full (so if you want that seating on a Saturday, book early). It turned out fine as the later time gave us plenty of time in the morning to get downtown, see some sights, and purchase the Grace doll so she could join us for lunch. At the designated time, we were seated and the hostess put out chairs for my daughter’s AG dolls. The cafe is very large, and it appeared to be about 3/4 full. Our waiter arrived quickly. He was very polite and made us feel like honored guests as he took our drink order. Note, some drinks are included with the (already high) meal price, and some are not. Unless you want to pay extra for drinks, be sure to order the drinks that are included with the meal. We both ordered the pink lemonade, which was very good and sweet. The server put a cup and saucer in front of each doll. The waiter took our food order. My daughter and I are both vegetarians, but we easily found items we could eat. My daughter chose cheese pizza, and I ordered the pasta pomondoro, and asked for no chicken on it. While we waited for the food, we used the little table topics cards to ask each other questions. We had a good time with each other asking and answering the questions throughout the meal. The Warm Welcome cinnamon buns arrived. They were dry and tasteless. Fortunately, the food got better when the First Course arrived. We both enjoyed the pretzels, broccoli, grapes, and the cheese sauce. The corn-dog muffins looked dry, but we wouldn't have eaten them anyway since they had bits of hot dog in them. The Main Course arrived. My pasta pomondoro did not have chicken, just as I’d ordered. The pasta was divine. Angel hair pasta in a very light tomato sauce. Yum. My daughter said her pizza was just “okay.” She ate very little of it, and didn’t ask for it to be boxed up so we could take it back to the hotel. I managed to eat all of my pasta, though I should have had half boxed up so I could have enjoyed the dessert more. I was annoyed when a server whisked the First Course plate away with a few grapes remaining without asking if we were finished. I vowed to guard my plates well from then on. But of course, that shouldn’t be necessary. What happened to asking before you take a plate away? This gave the meal a rather rushed feeling. Dessert arrived and we both loved it. A delicious little vanilla cupcake with wonderful butter cream icing, and chocolate mousse in a little flower pot. Many times during dessert, waiters and waitresses announced birthday celebrations. We were encouraged to sing "Happy birthday" to the various birthday girls. (We sang along the first time, but after that we were birthday grinches and ignored the singing.). We were able to take home the pony tail holders that were on the cloth napkins, the little flowers in the mousse flower pots, and the doll-size cup and saucers. It was nice to have these keepsakes. Too soon, the meal was over, and the check arrived. It was a meal we’ll always remember for the ambience, and the butter cream frosting and chocolate mousse.

Luncheon for 4...rushed but tasty.

By MsR2U |

The girls looked forward to this part of our trip more than almost everything else....what do they remember? The bathroom wall color. The store impressed me greatly as did the store staff...this did not. For the price of the experience being as steep as it is...I am surprised that it wasn't made into more of a big deal for the girls AND their dolls. The cafe was clean but not cozy, almost too open, very modern feel. The staff was courteous but rushed us a lot. I can think of many ways to creatively make this more of an experience in which the dolls come alive to the girls. The dolls received a seat and a toy saucer and cup to use while there and that was the ONLY thing that made this experience any different from eating in any other cafe. The food was very good but not incredible. Area was very clean. My only 2 complaints were how rushed we felt, which really destroys the experience and robs it of sentiment, and how little they involved the dolls in the experience. It was as if the staff had seen one doll and little girl, they had seen them all. Nothing super special in the presentation of it all. If you're on a budget and wondering what to spend money on...this might not be worth the $50 price tag (lunch for 2). Go next door to the Cheesecake Factory...better food, better ambience, better service, same or lower price and my daughter says it was one of her favorite things we did there...the waiter asked her about her doll when we were there for dinner...which made her light up in excitement. Service has a huge impact on how you remember your experience. Ours was ok at the AG cafe and slightly overpriced for what we received.

Good times with the Family!

Went for brunch on Valentine's day with our two girls. I have to say I was impressed, I was not expecting much, but have to say I was wrong. The food was good and service was great. They really take care of the families that come in! Thanks for a great time!

Sweet experience for little girls and their dolls

By chem_dr |

Family had a late lunch here and loved it. It's AGP cafe so I expected to pay more for the "experience" than typical cafe meals. My daughter enjoyed dining with her doll and the cuteness of the meal presentation. The food was tasty, particularly the pasta. We would return if visiting Chicago again simply because my daughter so loved the experience.

My American Girl

By Dede B |

We visited American Girl Place yesterday and my four year old had a great time! The restaurant was very cute and we loved all the attention that her dolls got as well! Upon sitting at our table, the hostess brought two high chairs for my daughters dolls, followed by tea cups and plates for the dolls. My daughter loved the fact that her dolls got to eat as well! The food was delicious!! Price point wasn't bad either being that we were in the city. After our lunch, my daughter took her doll to the salon for full treatment ...and her Samantha doll was returned to us better than new!!! We had a great time and if you have little girls and are in the city make it a point to stop in to American Girl !

Delightful!

By WeLoVeNoVaScOtIa3 |

The attention to detail was incredible here! We took our daughter for lunch as an early birthday present, and found the prices to be reasonable for what she got! We each had an appetizer, lunch, then they brought her her own birthday cake and a little gift! It was so worth it to see the smile on her face!

Took my daughter and 7 year old granddaughter here for lunch on our recent trip to Chicago. The restaurant is decorated very nicely. The staff is very friendly and my granddaughter was able to pick a doll to have lunch with since we didn't bring one. Our first course was a plate of delicious cinnamon rolls. Next was a plate of raw vegetables and various dipping sauces. My daughter and husband both had salads, I had a grilled ham sandwich and my granddaughter had pizza. We were not at all impressed with the food. The chicken in my husbands salad had no taste at all and my daughters was overpowered by the dressing. The pizza was not very tasty either. For dessert we had flowerpot cake. You have a flowerpot filled with chocolate cake and mousse. It was very tasty. The bill for the 4 of us was $140 with tip.

What a nightmare

By Two-Touring-The-US |

We brought our 7 year old granddaughter on her first trip to Chicago and to purchase her first American Girl doll. We booked a dinner in the AG Cafe at 5:30 on a Thursday. We were seated promptly and then it all spiraled down hill. We were promptly brought cinnamon rolls while looking over the menu. We did not immediately begin eating them so a server came over to take them away. We spent more time explaining we were not finished than we did eating. This was anything but comfortable and not what we expected for $23 per person. After ordering our dinner we were brought a plate of vegetables and fruit. Again we were not given ample time to eat before they tried to take it away. He would not take no for an answer; so we had to take everything off the serving plate and put on our individual plates before he would leave. We had to make a trip to the ladies room after our dinner was served, so naturally that slowed down our consumption of our food so they offered 'to go' boxes. It was obvious they wanted us out. The same male server came by to offer refills of drinks after dinner but before the disgusting dessert. Our granddaughter had ordered hot chocolate. He refilled her cup right over top of her Grace doll that had been out of the box for 1 hour and proceeded to pour hot chocolate on her head that ran down her face onto her shirt. He commented "oh I believe Grace has had an accident" he took her away to be cleaned up. We sat there in shock. Someone from the doll salon brought her back stating she had washed her hair & face and replaced her top. After we paid $85 for this nightmare of a dinner and were walking back up Michigan Avenue, still in a state of shock, we noticed our Granddaughter rubbing Grace's face with tears in her eyes. We asked what was wrong and she said Grace still has hot chocolate on her face. Upon closer inspection, Grace had hot chocolate in the crease of her nose, nostrils and lips. We comforted our granddaughter and when we returned to our room we used a Q-tip to clean the hot chocolate off. Her hair had not been washed because she smells like chocolate. This was such a huge disappointment. $170 for a doll & baking apron and $85 for a disastrous rushed dinner later, a huge regret. This will not be repeated for our other 2 granddaughters. Seating the doll at the table is not that big of a deal when you factor in all the bad experiences associated. We should have been given a new doll, not lied to. We did not want to make a scene in front of our granddaughter, but perhaps we should show her not to allow people to run all over you and make a stand for what is right and take care of your expensive purchases. Don't waste you money on the cafe experience, it isn't worth it.

Tea, Conversation, Fun

Enjoyed the 4:00 tea. The wait staff excellent as was the small bites of food. All centered around the little girl and her doll who sits right at the table. Such a fun time for everyone.

Nice meal for AG fan

By BrookieBMi |

The food was good for children, my daughter had the platter with mini hot dog, hamburger, and mac and cheese. I need gluten free and they had a nice gluten free pizza (I believe they used Udi products). My mother had chicken salad and was disappointed with refridgerated chicken instead of warm. Everything else was good meal was pricey, but was expected as it was about the experience.

Disappointed

By Jordan Z |

The food served for afternoon tea was very disappointing. I would probably not go back for another visit. Everything was very over priced as expected.

Tried a new AG cafe on vacation and we were not disappointed!

By Jennifer E |

We have an AG store and café in our town, but we decided to try the Chicago location on our recent vacation. The process was very organized, the dining room was nice and bright, and the staff was fantastic. It is a little expensive - it's a once a year treat for our two girls (5 and 8) - but the food is surprisingly good and the girls loved it! Keith was our waiter and he was wonderful!

It has been on my bucket list to bring our four granddaughters here. Half way there! How can you spend 6 hours in one store!!! That is how much fun the girls were having! We arrived about 5 minutes before our reservation at the Cafe, so took a moment to see if we had time to make a Salon appointment for their American Girl Dolls, but there was a little line even at 9:25a.m. Let me just say, I am a fan of the whole experience at American Girl! Don't go just for brunch, lunch or dinner... Go for the entire experience! The menu isn't extensive, but it is perfect for this place! The decor of the restaurant and the attention to detail is overwhelming to my senses. I took a ton of photos! It's just fun, and if you get in the spirit of it all, you'll have more fun. When our daughters were young, we bought them the original Pleasant Company dolls, and haven't thought of American Girl until our granddaughters turned old enough to appreciate them. So, this Christmas going to Chicago and to American Girl for the girls, Legoland for the boys was the family Christmas present. Something for everyone and memories (well photographed) to last a lifetime! Watching little eyes light up as their American Girl Doll is given their own chair, their own cup and saucer is priceless! Watching them realize all the little things they get to keep from brunch is just too fun! I won't ruin the surprises. And, watching them be dazzled by all the pink, the pretty lights, the flowers and the Christmas decor is a present to us! The food was good, and to us worth the cost. I'll post photos. One other little detail, they have conversation cards on the tables and we had a lot of fun with that! After brunch, we did the Salon, and let me tell you those ladies can braid hair faster and better than anyone I have met! They are quite skilled! They are also sweet as can be to all the children! From the Salon, we took the dolls to get their ears pierced. And, from there we looked at everything in the entire store! Time went by so quickly., Brunch took about 90 minutes. Enjoy your time, don't be in a rush to leave, they only do one seating at each table. We lingered and took photos! The staff is wonderful, and had the kitchen cook a custom dish for our daughter who has dietary issues. We appreciated that! Yes, it's an expensive place and we'll go again with the other two granddaughters, but to us it's a special present place... Not somewhere we would just drop into for brunch, lunch or dinner. It's a perfect Special present place!

perfect set up

loved that this building has tons of places to go through. the american girl store is a great place for every little girl with an amazing selection of everything every little girl would ever want. Loved that also there was a shop on the top floor with chicago gifts and clothing gift shop instead of having to go building to building to find something and their prices were great!! a little bit of everything in here.

Pricey but worth it if you love American Girl

By plural39 |

Great first experience with my daughter! We brought our whole family. My son was bored but still loved the kids meal with the flower pot mousse. My daughter loved that her AG doll got her own seat, and cup and saucer. Food was expensive but on par for the area. Portions were large. They were able to accommodate my vegan diet as well.

7th Birthday

By bambam26 |

This is our second trip to the American Girl Cafe. The food is fresh and nicely presented but the serving sizes for children is too large. The birthday package makes the guest of honor feel special and for the price, it is worth it for a treat!

Outing with My Granddaughter

Took my 10 year old granddaughter to the American Girl; Doll Store and had lunch at the cafe. It was a wonderful experience. The wait staff was very good. the food was great and lots of it. We had a wonderful time.

Amazing Birthday Experience

By Kelli F |

We went to the cafe to celebrate my daughters 6th birthday. This was our first time to any American Girl store or Cafe. The atmosphere is tastefully girly, in black white and magenta. The food is good and staggered perfectly despite all the tables that one server has. Our waiter Dan was amazing. He even called my daughter by name and listened to her stories graciously. The special attention given to the birthday girl is worth it! They even give the birthday girl and her doll a present! In my opinion it rivals Disney for a special experience with your "American Girl". We will definitely be back!

Enjoyable!!!

By Crystal G |

Because my goddaughter is into American Girl dolls (she had 3), I thought it would be great to treat her to lunch at American Girl for her birthday. This place is a money pit. Once you get pass that, it's really nice. I reserved the birthday celebration package. For that the birthday girl gets special treats for her and her doll. The food was better than expected and desserts were good also. My goddaughter has severe food allergies and they handled them no problem. She's allergic to eggs so she couldn't have the cake but they brought it out, lit the candles and sang happy birthday to her anyway. Her dessert consisted of sorbet and we enjoyed the cake and ice cream. The staff was attentive, friendly and accommodating. I think that package is $35 for the birthday girl and $25 each person. The regular lunch menu is $22 pp. They serve brunch as well as adult beverages. If you have daughters, please take them for the experience, but don't forget your credit cards and have lots of restraint because it will be tough to say no.

Fun birthday party!

By AliceDilts |

My granddaughter and her cousin had a combined birthday party. They got their dolls ears pierced and hair done. Then we ate lunch in the cafe. Our waiter was wonderful! The girls had a blast. The food was really good. We shared the nachos as an appetizer. It was part of the party! I had the pretzel and veggies for my meal. Then we went shopping. We will definitely be back!

Fun for girls who love AG

By cla11103 |

We had a small birthday party (just our family) and my girls loved that not only could their dolls sit in a seat with a teacup, but they also had their own birthday hats. Our girls loved that everything was pink and girly. The menu is very limited and there is not a separate adult and kids meal. The birthday cake was very good and cute. We asked for it to be boxed up and noticed that it was made by a local bakery. Service was great. Multiple courses kept the kids busy eating while waiting for the next course. The only negative is that the food, while good, isn't spectacular, and you are paying more for the experience than the food. But the experience alone is a lot of fun and worth it for girls who love American GIrl.

Celebrating the girl thing.

By CckidnyIndiana |

Took our granddaughters to lunch at the American Girl Place Cafe. It was absolutely fabulous. The food was very good and the service was excellent. The girls brought their dolls and were given seats for the dolls to sit in. And if you didn't have a doll they let you borrow one. It was a wonderful experience and the girls felt as if they were princesses.

A dream place for little girls!

By nurabbit |

We took our granddaughter for lunch and she loved the store and the experience. Her doll joined us and was given a little cup and plate (which you take home) and a chair was attached for the doll. The meal begins with an appetizer plate. The veggies were a hit but not the other items. The kids pizza is cute with a tic tac toe theme. The salads were decent for adults. The desserts are a cookie and chocolate mousse. It's pricey for sure at a fixed price over $20 including kids meals. It's was worth it to see our granddaughter's face. It was her birthday and we did not pay extra for a cake but we did have an outfit delivered waiting at the table when we were seated. We would return for a special occasion. Reservations are a must.

Great atmosphere, disappointing food and service.

By Susan B |

Love the atmosphere of the cafe but disappointing food and service. Appitizer meatballs and the fried ravioli were overcooked and dry. I ordered the cobb salad and even the chicken on that was dry. My granddaughter ordered the pasta, which was only pasta and a small amount of plain sauce. All of their meals (Children and adults) are a flat price of $27/pp which includes the appetizer tray, main course, dessert and a non-alcoholic beverage. Maybe they should consider having a seperate fixed meal cost for children. $27 for a bowl of pasta or pizza without any meat, in my opinion is overpriced. Although the cafe wasn't extremely crowded, our waiter seemed very busy and our service was less than attentive. My granddaugther ordered the special PINK fizzy drink at an additional $5, to which he brought out a glass of sprite with a BLUE packet of the cotton candy fizzy mixture, that didn't really fizz. We had ordered this same drink the last time we celebrated her birthday at American Girl and it came in a fountain glass and was amazing. All and all, not the best expeirence.

Great. Time. Hope we have begun a new experience and lasting memories Good food good service. We are planning our next visit very soon

It's all about the Princess

By Jen2114 |

If you can get past the overly hot holding area and overcrowded herd waiting to get in to the restaurant, you're golden. The food choices were decent for a fixed menu, and the food was good. I like that alcohol is an option for adults. The meal seemed a bit rushed, but it did take the full hour to eat so I guess they do need to keep things moving. My daughter loved every second of her dining experience with her American Girl companion so the expense and crowds getting in were well worth it.

American Girl Salon and Activities

By Pete4vol |

Our daughter has been wanting to attend since she found out this place existed. Getting the doll's hair done was $20. This store was fun and had some interactive displays. Our daughter most enjoyed taking her doll and having it use the display items. Not sure if she was supposed to do that, but she had fun! Still hard for me to wrap my head around this as an exciting destination personally, but she loved it!

Good visit but missing former touches

By Sandra A |

This was our second visit to the AG Cafe - our first visit was 10 years ago at the former location. This time we visited with our granddaughter - who enjoyed it very much. However, we noticed some touches were missing - the decorations seemed worn at the former locale you couldn't really peek into the cafe which we liked as it was a surprise one you got in.They used to have a more inclusive menu that included dessert, now that is separate. Service was average but food was good. Granddaughter was happy and didn't know the difference between this time and our former visit.

Grandsughter's first AG trip

Dinner reservation required. Plan it. Worth it. Perfect for children & adults. The entree course had nine options to choose from & all were perfectly prepared & presented. Coming back for her birthday & will do this again!

Great for a 5th Birthday Lunch!

By Michelle R |

Pleasantly surprised by the cute options they have for birthday lunches. Your American Girl doll gets a high chair and is served a tea cup w/saucer you can take home. They have a variety of adult beverages, and the menu is great for kids as they are flexible with substitutions. Very cute option to have a seemingly upscale lunch to make a little girl feel like a sophisticated grown up.

Go for the Experience, not the food!

By Kris R |

I ate here with my two daughters and my Mom. It was $22 per person, not including Sprite. You get an appetizer and dessert. All food was fair, I had the Quiche (fair) my Mom had the burger (fair/dry), kids enjoyed the bitty bites burger, dog and mac and cheese. I have one daughter who likes Amer Girl and I have my other daughter who likes boy toys. My youngest brought along her 20" Chewbacca from Build a Bear and I have to say, Chewbacca was treated with the same respect as the Amer Girl Doll. They gave him a cup and saucer, and he fit nicely in the chair at the table. So even if you have tom boys or boys, they can bring a doll or animal of their own... my youngest enjoyed the lunch just as much as my oldest do to the accommodation of Chewbacca. So we did have a great time and many laughs!

Children’s dream and a parents maxed out card!

By Lindsey A |

The American Girl store is every young child’s dream! There are so many dolls and accessories all around this two story store! It’s almost overwhelming given the amount of stuff they have and the number of children running hiatus. My girls loved this store and all the dolls. Although, the dolls are adorable and made to last, they’re so expensive! And the price tag of the cloths. 50$ for a dolls outfit is a bit outrageous. There is also activities for your kids to do with their dolls. Hair, nails, ear piercing, sweets, cafe, etc. We went to go to the cafe and there was a 30 minute wait. We ended up not eating there when I saw the price of the kids meal! Hello M Burger in the food court! All together we had a great time. But my pocket was sore when we left. A doll, a baby, and a carrier was over 200$. It was 284$. To some that’s nothing. To me that’s extreme. I’m glad we got to experience this and make that amazing memory which will be the only one we have within this store.

Mother daughter date at Chi town AGStore

The store is full of fun and excitement. Great learning materials for all ages, dad's were having fun too. Beware...The cafe is overpriced though!

Good food but lacks atmosphere

By sisterida |

Having lunch at American Girl Place used to be a really special occasion. From the doll high chairs, to the desserts with the hair tie, it was a real treat. Although the food is good, the atmosphere has changed. American Girl is still fun, but all the little extras are missing.

Nice But Pricey

By Ddrw |

We visited American Girl with our 5 year old granddaughter and her friend for dinner. The wait staff was very good and timely. The food selection was not great but OK. Serving portions were small (for adults) but OK for young kids. Food quality was just OK. Prices for their numerous American Girl products are very high for what you get. Did it once for granddaughter, won't go again.

Surprisingly beautiful and delicious

By MKMPTravelers |

The café is beautiful. Every little (and big) girl’s dream. The experience is catered to young girls, and they are able to bring their doll. The food is good - breakfast is our favorite! It’s a treat for the whole family.

Too Cute!

By Dr_C_and_E |

Adorable and fun! My sister, niece and I had a really good time. The dolls in the American Girl Store are amazing with so many amazing themes and backgrounds.

Adorable

By Madison R |

This was my first visit, and it was very fun! My friends and I brought our dolls, and they sat at the table with us. Our server was super friendly and took pictures of us. The food was average (I got chicken tenders) but it’s the experience that counts! Finally fulfilling my childhood dreams lol

Great experience for young girls

By Jen W |

I took my 8 year old daughter in March. What a great experience. She loved that it was all about her and her doll. The food was fine for lunch. It definitely met her expectations!

Great place to take kids that love American Girl dolls

By sky1014 |

Took my daughter here for the first time. Lots of food and staff were very attentive. Thought the menu could have been a little broader for the adults, a lot of kid oriented food, but the food ordered was very good and lots of it. Set price for lunch includes many courses. Reservations I think are the only way to get in and there are set times for the day that they serve the meals. Had a little high chair for my daughter's doll which was very cute. It was a great experience for her, would highly recommended it.

Lacking!

By Jenny B |

This place is definitely a one time visit for us. It's exciting for your child to be able to have her doll dine at the table, but other than that, it lacked A LOT. Half the waitstaff looked irritated to be there. I get I was paying for an experience, but the food was way over priced for the taste. The childs mac n cheese meal was subpar at best. For a 19.00 kids meal I think the child should have the option for soda and not just milk or juice! The cobb salad was just o.k. We will definitely be back to the store, but will skip the AG lunch!

Granddaughter’s Birthday Celebration

By 237kathleenp |

We had luncheon reservations to celebrate my granddaughter’s 4th Birthday and her first visit to The American Girl Place. Our granddaughter received a cute birthday crown, goody bag & a cupcake with a candle. It was a smaller package than the one where the child receives a cake, etc. This was perfect for a 4- year old. We had Maria as our waitress & she couldn’t have been more generous & helpful!! Thank you for making my granddaughter’s birthday luncheon so memorable! Everyone enjoyed their meals!! We’ll definitely be back next year!

The place continues to amaze!! Go once or go often - a study in sales techniques!!

By westchicago |

We took a granddaughter for lunch at the American Girl Place Cafe; we'd made reservations long ago so we knew they had our places reserved. As it turned out it was not at all crowded but the service was outstanding and the food was really quite good. It is a time to have a little girl feel like all "little girl"! Everyone's manners are good and most people dress up so you don't see holy jeans everywhere. It's quite a treat - fun to see families enjoy their female offspring and be amazed at the marketing ideas employed here.

An American Girl Dream

By Shannon W |

My daughter and I did the dance and dinner and my daughter will be talking about this for weeks! I have read lots of reviews and the biggest complaint is the price however you truly get what you pay for. Are day started out with checking in with tiara( sorry I probably spelled this wrong) very friendly and organized to get 50 girls and mothers gathered and on the bus to the Chicago Ballet. When getting back we had plenty time to shop before dinner and relax after the dance class. Then there was dinner...what an experience. A chair for my daughters doll, cup and saucer, bows for my daughter to take home and mini flowers. The menu was limited but all the food we had was wonderful and by dessert I was so full( FYI I can eat lot!) our waitress Megan was fast and officiant and made my daughter feel so special. My daughter at one time spilled and broke her glass and she was at our table right away to clean up and move us to a new table and also made my daughter feel better after the spill. Also there was a man named Darcy on our trip... I'm not sure who he was but he seemed really invested in making sure everything went smoothly and the girls had a good time.

A great experience for a girl and her doll!

We went for brunch and it was was a great experience. The service is excellent and the staff really cater to the girls and their dolls. It's expensive but great fun!

They Make It About YOU

By Amy Ryann Rezulak |

Took my 6 year old and my mother here as we are new to collecting American Girl, it was a hobby around when I was younger but never collected. This restaurant is located on the upper level of the American Girl Store in the Water Tower on Michigan Avenue. I advise making reservations as we happened to get lucky getting a table for lunch, the hostess saw it was important to us and squeezed us in. The staff were professional, rapid, and made you feel special. Every table is decorated with flowers and a conversation box, it is to encourage bonding, thinking, and conversation skills. As a little something to nibble on before your entrees, a plate of pretzel bites, carrots and celery are brought to your table. They even provide a mini chair and plate setting for the doll if you bring one. We had the quiche it was yummy, generous in size, and flavorful. For dessert they provide little flower cups of mouse which are danity and refreshing. Would highly recommend this experience to others.

The girls loved it

By Derrick T |

While on a mini vacation we visited the American girl cafe. We were unaware that they only have certain seating times and do not allow walk ins so we made reservations and came back. My wife and I were thinking this place would be like a overpriced McDonalds but we were wrong. When seated they bring you rolls to eat, then they bring out a tray of appetizers. After that everyone picks a dinner off the menu (which I had chicken pot pie and it was great). After that they bring you desert. The cost is $23 per person and you can order wine or beer which is extra. This was a great place for the whole family.

Surprised by good food!

By SmileyChicago_IL |

Went here with a 5year old- I wasn't expecting much in terms of food quality but lunch was actually quite good! Very cute presentation of dessert and the lunch was temperature hot and servers were great!

A what sight - little and big girls with their dolls enjoying a tasty lunch

By westchicago |

We adults were really impressed with the meal served for lunch at the American Girl Place Cafe when we accompanied our granddaughter there. It was 4 courses, all well served by a well trained waitress; she was attentive, helpful, observant, and friendly. We had one order of quiche, one order of spinach salad, and one order of chicken tenders. The first course was small sweet rolls, the second course was grapes, corn-dog muffins, broccoli, carrots with a cheese sauce and pretzel rolls. The main course was as ordered above on a plate, nicely filled with the proper accompaniments, and the dessert course was a small white cake, cupcake with frosting and a heart cookie and another little dish of chocolate mousse. It was all very good and beautifully plated.

The highlight of our visit

By Charles180 |

Did some shopping, and got the girls hair and nails done (and the dolls as well!). Finished off with a yummy meal at the café. The girls were in heaven

Splendid experience😋❤️

What a great environment and quite special place! Dropped in for a lunch date with my daughter and had such a great time! Super great service and extremely decent price for a quality experience!

First Trip with Three Year Old Granddaughter

By BJDOO |

Our daughter made a lunch reservation several months in advance. We were there on a Sunday and the dinning room was full. One should check in early as there is a queue before the doors open. The chairs that are provided for the dolls are a big hit (and was the gift of choice for our granddaughter). Meals are a flat $22 plus "grownup" drinks ( go for the tea :)). A bit pricey for the food but it is all about the experience. Service was outstanding during our hour+ lunch.

Fun, but expensive

By atjtetmt |

It's fun if you have a special occasion for a little girl. They try hard to make it special, but at the same time it's very cookie cutter kind of service and meals. There's a set menu with choice of the main entree. They have special seats for the American Girl dolls and even loaner dolls for girls without dolls. The decor is fun for little girls. It's expensive, but you're paying for the food and the experience.

FUN & good food too!!

By DisneyMomOf3Girls |

Great service, good food, and so much fun for your daughter and their dolls! We had dinner on July 17th for $23 per person which included basic drinks (lemonade/tea/milk), cinnamon rolls, shared family appetizer, main course and dessert. Limited, but yummy & diverse, main course selections for kids and adults. My 6-yr-old had a blast and the rest of us enjoyed ourselves as well! Will definitely return...this has been probably our 7th visit throughout our 3 girls, with visits to the Chicago and NYC locations...never been disappointed!

Great experience, so so food

By Amy C |

Ok, so we have been to the AG Cafe four times now. The experience is great for the girls...the dolls get their own little chair attached to the table and a place setting. The dining room is decorated very cute. But the food is just not great. You are served cinnamon rolls when you sit down followed by a tray with dip, veggies, and some potatoes. My kids all had tic tac toe pizza, and I had tilapia. Dessert is adorable (chocolate pudding in a mini flower pot and a piece of cake). The cost is a little ridiculous ($30 per person), but we do it for the experience and for the girls.

Pleasantly Surprised

By Scottkn |

Expensive? Have you eaten at WDW? At a museum food court? Or even Ed Debevic's as we did the following day? At least here you know upfront what it's going to cost you when you make the ressie. We had reservations for the 7:30 seating. We arrived at Water Tower Place at 4-ish basically done with our Mag Mile day. We went to the Cafe check-in to see if we could switch to the 5:30 seating. Funny the hostess called us by name after I asked to switch. I asked her how she knew our name. She said only 2 had reserved for the 7:30 seating that night and the other wasn't a party of 3 as we were. She gladly said they could accommodate the switch for us. We browsed in the mall (Lego store) and the AG store before heading back for our seating. The room was tastefully decorated in white, black and pink. Not overly girl-ish. My 11 year old son wasn't horrified or anything like that. The room was close to half full. Table was set like what we are used to for Thanksgiving or Easter for example. No surprises on the menu. The same that is seen online. The kids got a kick out of the courses, especially the first being cinnamon rolls. The portions for our entrees were fair. A heavy eater might not think so but I bet most kids plates aren't finished for I believe the same portion is served whether it's ordered by a child or adult. The food was decent. I'm sure it's prepackaged microwave frozen or reheated stuff like Applebee's, it's not like there's a executive chef back in their kitchen putting his or her love into a perfectly shaped salmon filet or a tic tac toe (green peppers & pepperoni) pizza. They offered to my son to borrow a AG boy doll to be his companion. He declined. Afterwards though he said aloud that he should've for then his sister would've been able to take home two sets of the saucer and cup which are placed in front of the dolls at the table and are the girls (or boys) to take home.

Disappointing

By Kakyak |

Three years ago I wrote a rave review of this place when I surprised my oldest daughter with a birthday lunch here. So when my younger daughter asked to return for her birthday I was happy to do so. But it was no where near as good. The server barely spoke to us, did not acknowledge her birthday until the cake came at the end of the meal, and just handed dishes out. All the wonderful things about how the first experience we had was because of the fabulous service we received to make her feel special. There was none this time. The food was fine, nothing bad, just normal. It is unfortunate that it has become so fast and impersonal that the special Expereince is lost.

Great experience but awful food...

By nicole254 |

The whole experience was fun and my daughter loved it. The waitress was average not as friendly as I was expecting. The food was awful, for the price. The burger was dry and tasteless. The Mac and cheese my daughter wouldn't touch. The ham sandwich was also poor. The appetizers, dessert, and coffee were good, thank goodness. My daughter had fun and that is the reason I went anyways. But for over $140, I felt like I get better food at McDonald's. Come on American Girl, give me some real beef for your burgers and make it higher end like your other products. Probably won't go back because it's not worth fighting the Chicago traffic!

Pleasantly surprised

By distortiongirl |

At $22 a head for lunch, I figured I was paying for the gimmick alone, but the food was exceptional! Maybe not $22 worth of exceptional, but when you add in the lovely tea room atmosphere, the delightful attention given to details little girls (and their dolls) would love, and the friendly service, I'd do it again in a heartbeat. For a bit extra, you can even get a glass of champagne or another specialty drink (the kids had milkshakes), which is a nice touch. Loved that they offered a "loaner" doll to my older daughter who did not bring her doll. Really well done.

Child's Wish

By Elaine0401 |

My granddaughters always want to visit the store and have lunch when they come into town to visit. We are more than happy to come once or twice a year. The Cafe works very hard to give them an experience and the food is fairly good. You have to remember it's not fine dining. I find it to be a bit high for the amount of food you get but don't mind since they love the experience. The birthday cakes are lovely and so is the "tea" experience.

Fun experience for my daughter

By Erin B |

My daughter and I had brunch here for our Chicago trip, she really enjoyed being able to sit with your doll at the table. The food was average but good for the experience. We were a little bored and I thought there was a good opportunity for more games perhaps. I would definitely recommend bringing your daughter here.

Special experience with tasty food!!

By KasiaReviews4u |

Girls had a great time eating lunch with their new American Girl dolls, and though on the pricey side, they did really love the food and ate everything so it didn’t go to waste. Worth it for a special experience and for the memories they made.

Good food for a good price!

By sherry |

I was surprised how good the food was and how much you got. We did the birthday for my grand daughter. We got cinnamon rolls, 3 tier trays of appetizers, included regular drinks, order off the menu then a beautiful cake with ice cream. Only issue was service was slow but we were in no hurry.

Bad staff decent food

By Katherine E |

The restaurant is cute, they thought of every detail down to a cup and plate for the dolls. The food is mediocre. Cinnamon rolls were good, the tiered appetizers were cute but meatballs were dry. My club sandwich was good, sweet potato fries were good but served with ketchup, odd combination. My daughter had a glitter bomb which she thought was awesome, it was so cute. Everyone loved the mouse. Although the gummies were stale. Now, the worst part: the staff. Those checking us in were grumpy. Not at all like the rest of the store staff. Our waiter was so kind but hands down the worst waiter I’ve ever had. He got my daughters order wrong, she is too sweet to say anything. He forgot to bring straws, sweeteners, forgot to come back several times. It was my daughter’s birthday and he also didn’t do anything even though we asked and checked in to when we got there. His kindness saved him because it was truly the worst service.

Afternoon Tea!

By Beth B |

My granddaughter had her first "real" tea party at her first visit to the American Girl Doll Store in Chicago last week. The cafe is a little girl's dream; a very precious place to spend some time. The service was impeccable and the food was great! What an experience!

First visit!

By 632tina |

Four adult women, two little girls. Once we all were inside we all felt like five year olds! Delightfully fun! We had lunch and the girls loved that their ‘dolls’ were served also! Later we went to the salon, hair and nails for our American girls! We naturally had to do some shoppping but such a fun day! Definitely a must if your child loves American Girl.

Fun Afternoon Lunch

By puma1954 |

I came here with my granddaughter. We have been here before, but every experience has been fun. The dolls get a booster seat and plate and cup. The appetizers were yummy - pretzel sticks, carrots, mini hotdogs in crescent rolls and cinnamon buns. I got the chicken and beet salad that was very good. My granddaughter got the ravioli and she ate all of it. I didn't see a kids menu, so all of the portions were the same. There was also dessert - cupcake and chocolate mousse that was good. It is a fixed menu for $22.00/person. It you wanted the special drinks or desserts, this gets added to the bill.

Great Experience

By pugzx3 |

Took my 3yr old grand daughter there for a special "Mimi & Me" birthday lunch. Super cute café done in hot pink, white & black....colorful & girly! We had very good service & since it was her birthday I purchased the birthday package that included crowns for my grand daughter & her dolls, an adorable birthday cake & a gift bag with lots of extras in it. If you would like an extra doll to join you at your table, they have quite a selection to choose from to "borrow" for your lunch. Yes, it is very over priced IMO, but you are paying for the experience. My grand daughter loved every minute. We will definitely do this again. Something you do as a very special treat. The food is so-so, but we didn't go there for gourmet cuisine. I gave 4 stars instead of 5 because of price. It's way over priced, but I kept reminding myself it's the experience & memory making that makes it worth the $.

Overpriced!

By GrandmasBunch |

Prices at Cafe are so over priced. Will not be going back there again. Will go to restaurants at Water Tower instead.

A must if you have daughters, granddaughter or nieces

By Michelle |

Pleasantly surprised with the food and service here. I wasn’t excepting much since it’s so commercialized for little girls but they really made the entire experience very enjoyable and the food was very good. My granddaughter had a blast and loved the fact she could decorate a cupcake for her and her babydoll. I highly recommend this place for special occasions.

Magical day for little girls

Took my 8 year old daughter and her 4 year old little brother here on her 8th birthday. What a great experience! It's group seating experience, so don't be late. Everyone in your seating window enters at the same time and the restaurant is cleared before the next seating. The decor is over the top girlie and it's adorable. Servers were patient and entertaining with the kids. Great view as well. Don't know if we would go again, but it was awesome to do once on a birthday!

1st Trip with Niece

By Kaylin B |

We took our niece here after she received an American Girl Doll for Christmas and it was a really cute experience. The napkin holders are pony tail holders that she got to keep and the doll gets to sit in her own chair with a complimentary saucer and cup. The food was very good! We got the burger, crab cake sandwich and chicken tenders with chocolate cake for desert. It was decorated adorably and the wait staff was very friendly. It would be a dream for any little girl.

Great to go once!

We did have fun! If I were rate food, it would be one star, my grilled veggie sandwich was cold, hard, and thin. The little girl in that party had the Itty bites, small hot dog, small hamburger, the hot dog was rubber! She could not chew it, all food was cold. You are not there for the food anyway! Take your child once, and have fun!

Wonderful experience

The café was the amazing! Décor was charming and service was fantastic! Food was good and was presented so cute. I found price to be a good value for everything that is included. A definite must do with little girls!

Pleasantly Surprised! Will Come Again!

I had heard horror stories of bad food here, and didn't want to do it....so I just signed up for the tea, just so my daughter could get the experience. When we got there, we were hungry, and decided to upgrade to a lunch/dinner....and were pleasantly surprised with the result. We paid for the birthday package, which is $37 for the birthday girl & doll, and $27 for each adult....gives you a combo of appetizers and one main entree of your choice. Wasn't very clear at first, but it was actually a decent deal for what you got. Salmon dinner was delicious, burger was thick and cooked well, and was able to have some gluten free bread options for those with allergies. The cake was adorable (and delicious), and we got a gluten free muffin for those with allergies. I was skeptical to "waste" a chicago meal out on the Cafe....but glad we did....my daughter loved the experience!

Lovely setting, good food and great staff

My granddaughter wanted to go to the American Girl Place so I made a reservation in advance. Any expectation I had was met and exceeded. The cafe is decorated beautifully, the food was tasty and the service was superb. It was like being in a fine-dining restaurant.

A dream for little girls

We visited for brunch with our twin 6 year old daughters and their dolls, of course. Everything about the cafe is adorable. The service was excellent, they really go the extra mile to make sure the children have a special experience. The food itself was better than I expected. My girls loved the pink lemonade and heart shaped pancakes. There were many cute details like the take home doll cup/saucer and hair bows. It was a memorable experience for sure.

My daughter and I shopped around the store before having a lunch at the cafe. Wait staff were superb at the cafe. I was pleasantly surprised to see the amount and quantity of food served. I couldn't finish my meal and it was quite tasty. I was expecting an overpriced sub-par meal but was surprised by the wonderful experience with yummy food. Having the seat for the dolls and plate and cup for them made the experience for my daughter.
