Wonderful longstanding Snider Plaza restaurant.

By jbza |

Great traditional Italian fare in a cozy atmosphere. I love that they offer 1/2 orders of several entrees. The bread and salad that comes with the entree make a fabulous meal. Good wine selection and offers some specials on wine and multiple by the glass options. Pizza is excellent, as is lasagna and eggplant or chicken parmesan.

Like NYC's Little Italy

By S m |

This is a small Italian restaurant at the edge of Snider Plaza. It is evident right away that this restaurant is popular with some older regulars. The staff is extremely nice and helpful. Service is excellent. This appears to be an older building and restaurant but it is clean and the age adds to the feeling that you are in Little Italy. They have a few booths that easily seat 3 on each side, others for 4 diners, and tables that can accommodate couples and families. I would describe the food as dependable. This was the first visit for everyone in our group but my guess is that the food is always good. My husband and I shared a salad and a pizza and they both were good. Not the best I've had, but plenty good enough to enjoy the meal. The men in our group ordered calamari and did not leave a bite! One friend ordered chicken parmesan and loved it as well. The pizza crust was a bit heavy and dry but the toppings were cooked to perfection and the cheese tasted fresh and high quality. We enjoyed our meal on a Sunday evening. The restaurant filled by 7 pm.

Perfect for a quick lunch

By Kindra G |

My husband and I go to Amore for quick and delicious lunches whenever we take summer coursework at SMU. We usually have less than an hour off for lunch and they provide very quick, attentive service. We've never seen it busy at lunch. They have yummy sandwiches with a choice of soup, salad, or fries. I've only had the salad, never tried the other sides. I love their tangy dressing. Their crusty bread with real butter is also quite tasty. They also have more traditional entrees as well. This summer we tried the chicken piccata and chicken Parmesan, both were good as well. We also love how the restaurant is very relaxing and quiet. It's dark, but not too dark and there's soft music in the background.

Ambiance, affordable and delicious!

By ledzepplin |

At first glance from the road, you would never know this little gem of a Italian eatery would be such a nice experience. I loved the European feel delicious sauces and entrees. Not to mention they give you a ton of food. Great for take home for lunch at work the next day. The Chicken Piccatta is especially wonderful. The food is rich though so order lighter with salads and appetizers.

The Type of Evening you Remember the Next Day - In a Good Way

By papi3462 |

Well....when you recall the dining experience you had the night before and smile over coffee the next morning, you know you had an exceptional evening. Warm That's the first adjective that come to my mind. Warm Welcome Warm, friendly, spot on service. Intelligent with good humor. Warm family feeling. Cozy atmosphere with the food tasting like it came right out of a kitchen in Italy. Warm good spirited manager (my guess owner) thoughtfully watching over everything. The food is excellent really. We haven't had it that good since our stay in Rome. My wife with with the Mixed Grill and our friends with with the Lasagna per the many Trip Advisor suggestions. They ooo-ing and ahh-ing over their choices throughout their meal. I went with the clam linguine with spicy red sauce. OMG. The only trouble is, when I go back, I seriously doubt I'll order anything different. Yes, it was that good. How can anyone cook pasta like that? And the sauce: shell-less clams in a firm fresh diced tomato sauce with a nice lite pop to it. Let me just say, we all ordered with the idea sharing with one another. ....and there wasn't much sharing going on. lol. Here is another tell-tale sign...the place was full with a wait by 6:30 PM and it appeared at least 1/2 of the patrons were regulars. Well done. ***** 5 Stars for sure.

Very impressed

By Mike R |

We really enjoyed our meal and the service. We arrived early as we were going to a concert @ SMU. The restaurant is small and we loved that, but that could result in having to wait. It is worth it so get a glass of wine and relax. The wine selection was excellent and the temperature served was perfect. Our waiter was on it. He understood quickly our desires as a table and did a great job of adding value, but not over doing it. The pizza nachos are awesome. This appetizer serves two unless you just want a small amount each. The lasagna is a must. I can eat and the portion was just right for me. We split a dessert and that was wise. A very big and tasty piece of Chocolate cake. It was refreshing to see the actual owner in the store and you could see that it was important to him that you enjoyed your evening. We will return.

Bravo Amore!...You keep winning me over!

Been going here for many years for dinner and lunch. One of my favorite cozy and intimate restaurants in town. Hard to find in big city madness filled with chain restaurants. I had to review today because I was so impressed with the staff. We had grabbed a quick meal at another spot in Snyder Plaza (oh..so bad...should have dined her), and stopped in Amore to just grab dessert and coffee. All indoor tables were full, with only one booth open. I told the host we just wanted dessert, and would understand if he preferred we take an outside table (was a lovely evening). He was happy to let us take his last indoor seats (even tho still early for Friday diners...about 8-ish). Waitress was very kind also. We had Tiramisu and Italian Cream Cake..great picks. Hats off to the staff for accommodating us with a small tab (in comparison) on such a busy evening!

Not like it used to be

By AKFH |

Visited this restaurant for 20 yrs Don't always order the pizza but ordered it tonight and crust was not handmade as usual and thick Asked waiter and manager that is new owner and they said nothing changed Called my friends that eat her every Friday and they said that Amore changed ovens and dough in the last year. Used to be great traditional spot Don't like being lied to. Bring honest about the crust change would be in the old standard. Won't go back because of this dishonesty

Order unfulfilled with late cancellation

By Roselyn |

Placed an order for my family for December 31st. The staff on the phone was extremely rude and seemed like didn’t want the business. Pickup time was 3:00 pm, we arrived there at 2:30 pm. Restaurant was closed but thought “they might be gone just for a few minutes”. At 3:08 pm we received a call from one of the staff stating that they have decided to close for the day and that the person was told to call me and let me know that my order will not be fulfilled since it was the only one. My family and I have supported this restaurant for year as we believe in supporting local businesses. Is very disappointed when your support doesn’t get reciprocated. This will be our last time supporting this place.

Seriously Horrible! - Have no clue as to why anyone would give it a five star rating. First visit to this restaurant 15 years ago when I moved to the Big D - I remember fresh homemade food, checker table cloths, fantastic service, ambiance, etc. Fast forward 15 years later not so much. My girlfriend and I dropped in for lunch today to celebrate my birthday - on a whim. To start with, thou I told them why we had come for lunch, not even an acknowledgment. I could live with that. I'm old so who cares. Onto the food, absolutely nothing was homemade, fresh or even tasteful. 1) From the recommended wine that had to be sent back as it was oxidized, 2) Calamari was was the only hit - above average, 3) Cesar salad is mayonnaise based sauce, seriously. Tasted better coming out of a jar .... well I think that is where it came from, a very cheap jar, 4) Not sure when bruschetta turned into bread covered in Marinara Sauce (that was so bitter all you could taste was the tomato paste) along with smothered melted cheese on top. We thought maybe we had read the menu wrong but where informed that is how they make it. That was returned to the kitchen to sit beside the wine, 5) In its place we ordered Buffalo Mozzarella and Tomato Salad with Olive Drizzle. That was so salty and super sweet at the same time with roma tomatoes vs heirloom tomatoes. We didn't bother to send it back, to join the collection, we just didn't bother to eat it, 5) Being Italian I order a very simple dish; not typically on the menu; that I grew up on and can be whipped up anywhere - even the Olive Garden! I order it at ever Italian restaurant I go to (Pasta, tossed in Olive Oil and Fresh Garlic - fresh grated cheese ontop). Pretty simple right - mine came out as olive oil canned garlic soup. Garlic was out of a jar and had been burnt when sautéing, measuring about 1/3 of a cup on the bottom of my olive oil soup which was about 1/4 of a cup. There was nothing remotely homemade about the pasta. The cheese was stale and came out of a shaker. Typically referred to as Pasta Olio e Aglio in more traditional Italian restaurants. 6) Order of meat balls where pressed processed meat vs (beef, veal & pork) top with the most acidic tasking kinda like tomato paste with pepper sauce, 7) Since the waiter never offered to refill the wine or hot water we just went straight for desert, 8) Ordered the Key Lime Pie - okay truly I am laughing out loud at this point in time. It was premade (not sure by whom) and had been frozen prior. They did not do a great job of defrosting it as it came on a layer of water and a mushy crust. 9) When we first sat down, I had ordered pasta and meat balls to go for my son for dinner. Along with the minestrone soup. Needless to say that went in the garbage as soon as I walked in the door. Would not even feed it to my dogs. 10) Got the bill, left a good tip ..... never to return. I think this restaurant survives strictly on location and a very outdated memory. It was good for a Birthday laugh!

Perfect afternoon lunch. What a Treat!!

By Daniel K |

Stopped in at 2:30 pm on a Monday afternoon. This small Italian style restaurant was appalling from the onset, very low key, soft traditional Italian & soft pop music beach ground, instant seating & personable service by a seasoned waiter with a friendly manner. Half a dozen tables out of maybe 30 tables were occupied, menu was from Italian meatball sandwiches through pastas, salads, fish, very many excellent choices. I had redfish with sautéed veggies, my wife had a Caesar salad. I chose the soup with the fish and it was one of the most superb minestrone soups ever. The fish turned out to be a true work of art, seasoned exactly the way to bring out the best in its Glover, while being light & flaky. Wow, this is a definite winner. The bread was great, the coffee was superb. My wife loved her salad. You would have a really hard time finding a better meal in as nice an ambiance as this for twice the price. Hands down, all 5’s!!!!

Small Italian cafe in Snider Plaza

By 5016DAH |

Long time (30+ years) Italian restaurant in Snider Plaza (University Park). Atmosphere is like little Italy in NYC with the checkered table clothes and hanging Chianti bottles. Traditional Italian fare but with value size portions. The chicken piccata is excellent. The chicken Genose is delicious with fettuccine, artichoke hearts, mushrooms, black olives in cream sauce. Service is friendly. A few tables outside when the weather is good. Parking - it's Snider Plaza, so parking is usually at a premium. Full bar. Casual and a Good value! Open for lunch and dinner Monday - Friday. Dinner only Saturday and Sunday.

Fav Italian Gem!

By MLHDallas_TX |

I almost could not pick just one date cause we go quite alot. Tiny, cozy place with all your Italian favs. I like that some things are offered in Half Portions. Just right for a smaller appetite. The staff and the management are super and you never leave hungry. Their chicken piccata is my fav in the city!

Good food time after time

By RoundWorld80 |

Amore's is consistently good Italian food. Yummy Chicken Piccata and as delish as the soup, salad and entree are - the warm, crusty bread with butter.... 'ya gotta have it! Excellent place for an early dinner before heading to SMU for an event!

Anniversary from afar

By Sean C |

My wife had to go to Dallas to help our daughter move and it was our anniversary. I called and arranged to see if they could help me surprise my wife. They were great. I told my daughter that they had dinner plans at Amore and to arrive at 5:30. They delivered champagne when they were seated and finished off with cake. Both my wife and daughter said the food was great and the service outstanding. They did a great job helping me celebrate from afar. Thanks so much!

hidden gem

By kelliweingarten |

My sister told us about Amore after a take out order she delivered for someone. The atmosphere was great. We saw couples and families last night. I loved the mixed grilled plate. Despite the fact that they were packed they got everyone seated really quick. Service was outstanding. This is why my husband and I prefer family owned places over corporate giants. Since its by SMU and we live in Garland its a little drive but well worth it even in the rain. Nice job gentlemen. We will be back.

Consistent

By gayler1 |

Ate here with a group of five. This is one of the few restaurants that will take reservations. We have been eating here for years for several years. The food is good, reasonably priced, and the staff seem to want to please. We especially like the warm bread. This appears to be a small thing but butter it, dip it in the minestrone, and be transported to a sidewalk cafe in Tuscany.

Lovely dinner; low light

By jpatter1 |

We had the mixed grill and baramundi. Both were very good. Dinner salad, though, was careless and limp. Really should work on that. key lime pie was good but not great. graham cracker crust was soft. crisp is better. We'll go back. Server and manager were attentive and very good. Decor was old-school charming, but why the LOW light? Lower than most restaurants.

Great lunch spot

By Michael H |

Great lunch menu. Service was excellent. Grilled chicken, eggplant, peppers, artichoke plate was very good. Prices are nice, too. Crowded and a bit small inside, so I'd imagine a line at dinner a/o on weekend. Will return when visiting SMU again.

Fresh Food, Good Service (Dallas Location)

By D Dawn K |

Four of us ate here this month, and this is a cozy, local restaurant with good quality food and a warm atmosphere. Try one of their pizzas or the chicken parmesan, very good! They also have a nice wine selection. It's a small place, so it can fill up early any night of the week. If you're meeting friends, it's a good idea to get a reservation. Service it "good" and generally friendly.

great food, consistent service, fair prices

Our go-to place for a wonderful neighborhood italian place. Really like their eggplant parmagiana, minestrone, and friendly efficient service.

When your Great your ALWAYS Great

By MMGOLF |

Moved from Dallas & just moved back this year. The wife had a Dr appt in the area of Snyder Plaza & remembered an old favorite. We had been going to Amore since we first move to Dallas about a year after they opened in April 1983. Had lunch after the wife's appt & it was amazing. Tim is still the owner and he greeted us. My favorite, meat lasagna was magnificent & the Caesar salad was prob the best I've had in 10yrs. If you have never been, it's worth your time & I can't every imagine you being disappointed.

Great Date Night Down Memory Lane

By Texmission |

Awesome veal parmesan with side of spaghetti. Half orders are possible if you are not too hungry. Entree includes souo or salad. It is a great neighborhood cafe that has been in Snider Plaza for years. Make reservations on the weekend because it was packed with locals. It is so refreshing to visit a place that maintains its standards. Our waiter Lane was attentive and professional. Thanks for a fun date night down memory lane.

Just awful food

By Jeff P |

Nice neighborhood spot. Potential to be a good restaurant. If only it had a decent cook. Some of the worst Italian I've had. Pasta is always tasteless. Why? They don't salt the water. Sauce is very rich, as if out of a can? Grilled chicken is cut thin and WAY overcooked so it's dry, tough, and tasteless. Other "Italian" dishes are carelessly made. But it's a hit with the geriatrics!

Good neighborhood place...

Good neighborhood place. Awesome kick to the house salad dressing; marinara could use a little more oomph.

Stil a solid dining experience

By RoundWorld80 |

When visiting SMU, my firiends and I meet for dinner at Amore's. Their food is always delicious from soup and salad to the entree. I had an extra scrumptuous grilled salmon with asparagus and polenta. Service is always with a smile. Dining room is cozy. You can count on enjoying your meal time after time.

Definitely a great find in Dallas

By ScriBobin |

We loved the food. The service was very good, but it was not crowded when we were there. The decor was very much to my taste, but may not be to others. The only thing I could criticize is the table cloths which are made of a heavy vinyl. Very practical for the waitstaff, but not as great for the customer. They are a little too long and therefore they rub up against your thigh. But I like the dark room and the music playing was very pleasant but not too loud. We will definitely go back since the food was really great and the music was not too loud.

Much better since the last time we went there.

By Jim S |

Had mini veal piccata plate and it was wonderful. House salad needs a little work. Bread delicious, and service was wonderful. Reasonable prices. Will definitely come back.

Great Place

My daughter went to SMU - so we visited Dallas quite often while she was in school there. Amore became a regular stop. My favorite is the mixed grill with a difficult choice between the House Italian Salad or the Minestrone. Always excellent - very consistent!

Consistent neighborhood itallan

Been dining here for 20 plus years. Love their house salad. Chicken piccata in my favorite, husband loves chicken and shrimp calabrese. Their pizza is good too. Make a reservation and go a little later, lots of families at the 6pm hour.

Best kept secret in Dallas for Italian Food!

By Susan K |

Amore is one of those restaurants that you pass and have no idea how good it is until you go in and experience. The staff is amazing and attentive. The lasagne is my personal favorite and I their starter salad is the yummiest. It is located near SMU and a favorite for us for lunch or dinner. They also have carry out which is always a winner in our house. I like to get the lasagne to go. Or, a garden salad with chicken on top. Their pizza's are amazing, too!

Great service Great food NYer certified!

By James G |

Coming from NY and being an Italian I’m a bit over critical for Italian food but this is the place we go to when we visit Family. It’s been around for over 30, the food quality is always reliably good, they use good products and the staff is super friendly. My wife raves about the Chicken piccata. I had veal parmigiana. The sauce was thick and you get a really nice sized piece. I do wish the plates themselves were larger so my pasta is on the same plate. We also had a personal pizza which was very generous and the pizza was delicious as it is cooked on a stone. The staff is always friendly and attentive. Food came out quick and very hot so be careful! There’s a nice wine selection and we personally love the bread. If there’s anything I could say are opportunities would be the house salad. Very generic... could use some olives or other toppings. The parking is also extremely hard. I recommend getting there earlier than later. Sorry for the already eaten food picks but I was hungry!

Great Italian Food

Sometimes a little crowded, but always good Italian food. A small place, so be prepared for a tight fit.

Our favorite neighborhood restaurant

By Susan D |

Amore is our favorite "go to" neighborhood restaurant. Everything on the menu is very very good. And, the prices are reasonable. I usually order the salmon fillet salad, while my husband order the lasagna. Their pizzas are also excellent. They have a good wine list. The atmosphere is very pleasant as well. We never hesitate to take out of town guests here. It's also a restaurant that is quiet enough to talk. It's one of our favorite Dallas restaurants. You WILL need reservations on many evenings.

Good but not great

By Jim S |

I had Veal Piccata and it was not nearly as good as Bugatti's, but it was half the price. Salad and bread need some work. Service is very good. Small place and they have stopped taking reservations, so it could be a problem. My wife had Chicken Genovese and she said it was delicious.

Good food and good service

By tangojohnDallas |

Small neighborhood Snider Plaza restaurant. Apparently it has been here for years. I ordered chicken parmesan and I thought it was very good but also expensive. Probably local residents of this neighborhood probably don't find it expensive. Service was very attentive and professional.

Real Italian

By suzannes278 |

This is a long standing neighborhood Italian restaurant close to SMU. You are always greeted with a smile and made to feel welcome. The food is very good. The crab cakes with polenta and asparagus were a little spicy, but delicious. The pizza nachos are a favorite appetizer. Amore's staff is so friendly and accommodating. This is not a chain restaurant. If you want real Italian food with ambiance go to Amore.

good people; nice restaurant; bad grill chef

By jpatter1 |

I really like this place. Quiet. Nice ambience. Friendly people. BUT. At least half the time, the grilled chicken is dry, tough, inedible. Grilled fish was overcooked. Angel hair pasta was tasteless (forgot the salt in the pasta water). Meat sauce is so concentrated it's hard to eat. C'mon. This is not difficult to fix. You can do it.

Slow.Service!

By Traveler |

Our third time to visit this restaurant in a year while in town visiting family. The food is decent but the service is consistently slow and nonchalant. The waiters pile the dirty plates on the way out and for the price, we expect better.

Excellent Little Spot For A Date

By MPH200 |

Some of the best bread I have ever had. The food is always good & consistent. The service is great. Very nice spot for a date. Love Mona Lisa ... Everywhere.

Nice neighborhood spot

By LABill |

As indicated in other reviews this is a nice , small neighborhood spot in Snider Plaza. Seems mostly locals come here. Nice menu, low prices and good , friendly service. We will come back frequently.

COZY PLACE

dinner last light. this small restaurant serves good American Italian food. our waiter, Patrick, was eager to ensure we had a lovey experience and he succeeded. this is a small place with a happy vibe. noticed they do snappy take out business . . good to know!

Awesome Amore

By Bballfan23 |

First time dining for lunch at this popular Snider Plaza restaurant. I had the baked ziti and honestly it was probably the best I've had. Others had penne pasta with meat aside and meatballs and pizza. Everyone was pleased with quality and certainly the taste. Friendly staff and superb service. We will be back and hope you give them a try.

Better than Average

By Deborealtor |

Cozy atmosphere, good wine selections are the pluses of this Snyder Plaza eatery. Our food was better than average, but not spectacular, Some entrees are available on "half order" status, but be aware that the price is reduced very minimally for a half order. The service is good, and the servings prompt.
