Living in the suburbs, we don’t go to AS that often, usually once a year. We’ve been coming to AS for the past 5-7 yrs. The French Toast Fantasy is no longer what it used to be. Maybe a teaspoon of granola on it, hardly any marscapone and definitely didn’t taste just made, more re heated My husband had eggs Benedict. Although the ham and egg were very good the English muffin was stale. We could barely cut through English muffin with a knife We won’t be back anymore

Best Cinnamon Rolls Ever

By Twtrd55 |

We had breakfast delivered to the hotel room from the Grandview location and still the best cinnamon rolls ever. Sweet but not sickening sweet and so flavorful. Rest of the breakfast was good but hard to screw up a couple of breakfast wraps.

Still wonderful!

By tonyaA570 |

It has been 3-5 years since visiting this wonderful restaurant. I stuck with my usual, French Toast Fantasy, & was not disappointed.

Breakfast for real :)

By Moreno_chicago |

The place for a comfy American Swedish breakfast. Nice location, nice people, nice food. Loved the Montecristo!

Cheap good breakfast

By Conniebald01 |

Cheap restaurant, more like a diner, huge large menus made of paper, the cinnamon rolls are unbelievable. Its the perfect place to have breakfast when i wake up with a hangover, big, cheap, and good diner.

Super-consistent quality

By wineshark |

It had been quite a few years since our last visit, but on our recent visit (early April) the overall quality level here was still very, very good. Top-notch prompt service and very tasty offerings make this well worth the short trek north from the heart of downtown. Authentic home-made corned beef hash and eggs was superlative.

Highly recommended breakfast near Wrigley Field

By JaxPhotographer |

Awesome breakfast experience in the Wrigleyville area just a 1/2 mile walk to the balpark. Lots of menu options. Food was fantastic. Service from Kelly was ideal. Recommend the French toast, scrambled eggs, biscuits and honey, and red potatoes. The strawberry/banana/orange smoothie was delicious too. Overall experience was extremely positive. Will return for sure.

Always Good

By LizBethob |

We eat breakfast and sometimes lunch here and it is consistently good. The cinnamon buns are covered in frosting and really hard to resist. The egg dishes are good and the bacon is really good. They usually serve two sides with your meal, so one can be healthy and order the fruit cup instead of the cinnamon buns. The Apple sauce taste homemade -- sweet and a little tart. The egg wraps are delish too. Thumbs up!👍

We come for the cinnamon rolls. The breakfast is extra!

By jgbtravels |

This has become our first when visiting Chicago. The cinnamon rolls are the best we have ever had. We have been coming here for years. The service is always good and the breakfasts are reasonable and very filling. Breakfast comes with 2 sides. And yes we always choose the cinnamon rolls as a side. Watch out because they can fill you up. For the first several years we didn’t realize that that they had a small parking lot behind the building. Please keep your eye out for the sign and it’s a small opening to be sure. Trust me free parking in Chicago is rare. Ann Sather used to have more locations and be open for dinner. It’s a Chicago institution for sure.

Avoid Avoid Avoid

By Nicksound |

Me and the wife ate breakfast here. The food was greasy and tasted bad. My wife had the crab cake benedict, which poisoned her. She was violently sick and 9 days later she is still unable to eat properly. Disgusting, disgraceful restaurant, how dare they take money from people and poison them.

Large portions and free parking

By Lindsey C |

I was really looking forward to eating breakfast here because of all the good reviews. The free parking in the back of the restaurant was a bonus. The wait staff was friendly, and the portions were huge. We all tried the cinnamon rolls, and I have to say, they weren't anything special. They weren't warm, which is how I prefer to eat them, but they were large, and almost filled us up before our breakfast arrived. My daughter and I split the Swedish breakfast sampler. I liked the pancakes and the meatball, just because they were so different than your average breakfast fare. The sausage was okay. The side of fruit was refreshing. My husband got the salmon dill omelet, and it was very salty, which was disappointing. My son got the French Toast Fantasy, which he liked, but it was a bit over the top. The large portions did keep us full for a good portion of the day. I'm glad we stopped by and tried it out, but it's not a place that I feel I need to return to.

Best Breakfast EVER!

By Irene3981 |

Okay I went for the cinnamon buns. No lie. They are heavenly. But each item stood alone as outstanding. The eggs bennie had real ham, the hashbrowns were fried potatoes and the spices on them so yummy! My friend had the "french toast fantasy" it was a cinnamon bun cut in half made into french toast with mascarponi and berries. It was very good and rich. Luckily we split them between us. I would gain weight if I lived nearby. Thank you Ann!

Cinnamon roll heaven!

By Marie D |

No trip to Chicago is complete for me without a stop at Ann Sather. We came to meet family and friends for brunch and everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meal. Staff took great care of our group and in spite of the amount of people we had everything came out at the same time, hot and fresh! Don't pass up those cinnamon rolls!!!

Great Cinnamon Rolls!

By campsalot |

Fun spot and great cinnamon roils! It was a good lunch / brunch stop. Omelet and side of fruit was great also.

Great cinnamon rolls, decent breakfast

By TravelingCouchPotato |

Prices were on the high side. Breakfast for two was $42 before the tip. Food and coffee was standard diner style and quality. The cinnamon rolls are what you want here. Light, fluffy and very very good. Friendly and attentive staff.

Average fare

By Mike L |

This used to be a favorite of years gone by, a Chicago classic. But I guess sometimes you just can't go back. Not as good as we remembered. The famous sweet rolls are still there, but to us the menu seemed old. It will still be a treat for first timers, but our tastes have evolved and search for fresher, healthier fare.

Still Awesome After All These Years!

By Mick M |

I hadn’t been to Ann Sathers in over ten years, having gone there all the time when I lived here in the 90’s. The cinnamon buns, pancakes with lingonberries, meatballs, and cheesy potato pancakes were as great as I remembered them. Service fantastic and of course the neighborhood vibe was old school Chicago. Almost worth moving back to the midwest for!!!

Ann Sather- Open for Delivery and Take-out !

By John T |

I just got off the phone with the Ann Sather Restaurant manager and he confirmed they are open for Delivery and Take-out. Great food !

Good food, good friends, good conversation

By Taylor B |

Did you know that Tom Tunney, the alderman of Chicago's 44th Ward, which includes Wrigley Field, is the owner of the Ann Sather Restaurant at 909 West Belmont Avenue in the Lakeview neighborhood? I didn't until the other day when my wife and I stopped for an early breakfast and Tunney greeted us at the door. I don't think he can take credit for a business that the late Ann Sather started in 1945. But since he bought this flagship restaurant in 1981, as a 24-year-old college graduate who apprenticed under Ann Sather for a year, he certainly has carried the torch proudly and has continued the success story of the longtime Chicago diner that serves Swedish-American breakfasts and lunches, plus the famous to-die-for cinnamon rolls. Open from 7 to 3 Monday through Friday and 7 to 4 on Saturday and Sunday, it is a popular gathering place for local residents, college students, commuters, shoppers and Cubs fans. And retirees, like us. Breakfast at Ann Sather's on Belmont is a regular treat for us. We don't live too far away, on the other side of Lincoln Park. Ann Sather's reputation preceded her. We have our favorites. I start with hot oatmeal, then choose either Traditional Eggs Benedict with two poached eggs, country ham and hollandaise sauce with two cinnamon rolls and hash browns or two scrambled eggs with corned beef hash, two cinnamon rolls, hash browns and two sausage links. My wife always enjoys two Swedish waffles with strawberries, two cinnamon rolls and two sausage links.

Great Service!!!

By Barry B |

What a little gem. Stayed at City Suites and popped over for brunch. The service was the best we had in our 5 days...by far. BYOB so we had Mimosas and a great breakfast. Highly recommend!

Quick and good. Good customer and clean,

By Terence M |

A staple for breakfast in Chicago. Lived my whole life and never been here, always hear about. Very clean and presentable Service is good and friendly The meal was plentiful and tasty. From the time I placed my order and received it - literally 3/4 mins. I would have like some time to relax and enjoy the surrounding, but like could be worse. When I’m back in the area from a breakfast, I will return

Never A Bad Meal Here

By Ann M |

Must try their cinnamon rolls here! Their staple and truly good. The food portions are big and they have good service. Bacon is delish along with their wraps. Their eggs are subpar! But service is alway good and friendly.

Family Filling Breakfast!

By brf1996 |

Wow; a fabulous neighborhood breakfast joint! A lot of food was served! The Cinammon rolls are considered a side and you get two sides with most of the breakfast entrees! Our server was wise and very helpful! The food was delicious...everything was flavorful! Hash browns were new potatoes seasoned to perfection. The Monte Cristo breakfast was good but would have preferred the Eggs Benedict dishes given all the sweetness of the side rolls. A lot of sharing went on at our table and the growing teenager left stuffed!!

Good Food

By scotth1959 |

Food was great. Service was great as well. The cinnamon rolls were terrific. It's a cute neighborhood restaurant and is well established. I would go there again.

Always our first stop in Chicago.

By jgbtravels |

We put the car in autopilot and stop here for a late breakfast first thing. Fortunately they have a parking lot behind the restaurant that is free. Let’s face it there’s not much free or convenient parking in Chicago to be honest. I love their breakfasts and they can be filling. The driving force is the cinnamon rolls. They are generally huge and sinful. OK, today they were a bit over baked but that is unusual. There was a huge crowd when we got there around 10:30 am on Saturday but were seated in less than 15 minutes. Service was stellar as usual and quick. my coffee cup was always filled. This is a Swedish restaurant so do try some Swedish dishes for lunch if you don’t want breakfast. Oh, take some cinnamon rolls home with you if you need something sweet for later.

Still the best cinnamon buns around.

By Tina V |

Hadn’t been here in years. Great breakfast and the cinnamon buns are to die for. A little bit of a wait to get seated but worth it.

Delicious cinnamon rolls

By Chilover |

Therea so much I can say about those delicious cinnamon rolls! They are just so delicious! I really enjoy my delicious lunch with friends, we were so please with the positions we got and with the service as well, price was reasonable for what we had.

Reputation better than the food

By BillB68 |

Popular place with some good, some average menu items. Pros: service (Kelly especially friendly & efficient), location is a half block walk from the Belmont L-train station, freshly squeezed orange snd grapefruit juices, homemade skillet potatoes (the menu lists them as hash browns, but they're skillet fried red/new potatoes). Not-so-pro: coffee just average, Swedish pancake doughy and flavorless, bacon has an odd bitterness. Overall, it's acceptable but there are better breakfasts to be had. Best in Chicago area is Walker Bros. (North suburbs) but Ann Sather will do if you're stuck in the city.

Swedish sampler !!!

By 2GuysTraveling |

Great home style food with a Swedish influence. Great for breakfast or lunch. Cheap and great service. I had the Swedish Sampler with Duck breast in loganberry glaze, Swedish Meatball, Sausage, sauerkraut, and spaetzle. And of course the complimentary breads and cinnamon rolls. Delicious !!!!

Better then they said on TV

By Maggie G |

My son loves cinnamon rolls, loves them. I saw this on a TV show years ago but could never make it out to that area of the city in time for breakfast. We happened to be staying about a half mile away and where able to walk over for breakfast. It was diffently worth it. As soon as you order they bring out plates with two hot cinnamon rolls, if that is a side you choose. The other food was equally as good. I cannot wait to go back. Next time I want to try the Swedish pancakes.

Delicious breakfast

By DimakCanada |

We had three dishes: potato pancakes stuffed with cheese and bacon, Norwegian smoked salmon egg benedict and French toast fantasy (cinnamon buns stuffed with mascarpone cheese). The egg benedict came with a side of cinnamon in’s that were just amazing - especially when they were just brought to the table, they were so soft and the sauce so smooth and delicious! My favourites as the French toast followed by the potato pancakes.

Oh my goodness!

By Snow B |

Our first problem was deciding what to order. Every person surrounding us had delicious looking dishes. Every table started with the cinnamon rolls and most devoured them before ordering. We decided to order them as a side and share. BEST EVER! The Swedish pancakes and the Crab Benedicts were fresh and delicious.

Breakfast of champions

By awesomemike |

A sweet treat in boy's town! First off, this place is BYOB, they have all the fixings for bloody Mary's and mimosas (fresh squeezed OJ) so just bring your booze. The portions are huge! I ordered the monti Cristo which came with 2 French toast slices topped with scrambled eggs, ham, and Swiss. It also came with 2 sides, I chose potatoes and cinnamon rolls (2). You will not be disappointed with this sweet setup. The ham on my dish was SUPER tender and I had to bring half my dish to the hotel because it was so big! Make sure you come here!

Sunday brunch --- fantastic

By Varcsix |

Enjoyed a delicious Swedish breakfast --- included pancake, meatballs, sausage, and their famous cinnamon buns. Absolutely perfect in every way! Server was so fast. Will definitely go back next time I'm in Chicago!

Great breakfast stop with unique offerings

By Jeff P |

Not your run of the mill breakfast. I tried crab cakes Benedict. Good, not great. My family had the avocado wrap and they loved it. We all love the cinnamon rolls and the service is fast and friendly. I look forward to another visit.

Small place

By LostInTime |

This is a small place with Swedish origins. They have cinnamon rolls. And a full breakfast service. It was pretty good but it didn't knock my socks off.

Great neighborhood breakfast shop

By Clevlander |

A wonderful neighborhood breakfast shop with a wide selection of options. I love their cinnamon rolls and they let you bring sparkling wine to make mimosas for breakfast. The Swedish breakfast is great as well as their Benedict eggs.

Great Breakfast, Yummy Cinnamon Buns!

By TED5271 |

Great local restaurant with cool vintage decor. Enjoyed breakfast complete with famous cinnamon buns. Good value for your money in the city. Our group enjoyed omelets, eggs, ham, fruit bowl and cinnamon buns. Breakfast meats were fresh and tasty. Good service. Conveniently located near Belmont L stop. Definitely worth a trip.

Great food, large portions, good value

By Daryle |

The cinnamon rolls are indeed delicious and a very generous choice as a side. The fruit was more than the usual cantaloupe and grape mix with fresh berries and pineapple. The biscuits we're also tasty, light and fluffy. Hash browns were more but I would consider breakfast potatoes, but we're also very good. Overall we were very happy, a lot of good food for a reasonable price. And the coffee was pretty good too.

Worth the trip!

By 23kimberleyf |

Food and service was excellent! Price was very reasonable! Serving were large!! Great location near Wrigley. Totally recommend!

Local iconic restaurant!

By RJB1215 |

Excellent breakfast/brunch fare in a great location. The menu choices were excellent and very tasty. The cinnamon rolls and egg white omelette was delightful. Service was terrific too!

Returning again (and again) for the best Swedish breakfast

By Ira S |

Have been coming to Anne Sather's for years and it continues to provide the savory flavors that I crave when my friends and I discuss this wonderful breakfast place. As other reviews have surely noted, the cinnamon buns are worth the trip all by themselves. Fresh, flakey yet soft and chewy, these delicious buns start the meal right. They come in pairs, which is a near impossibility if you intend to eat anything else. I personally favor the Swedish elements here -- meatballs, pancackes, Lingonberry sauces -- as I can get many foods elsewhere and this is where Sather's really shines. The meatballs are always tender and flavorful as well as pretty hearty in size (also comes in pairs). The pancakes are light and fluffy and when sauced with Lingonberries, a masterpiece. Given the lines and number of return visitors, you can't go wrong here.

Best Cinnamon Buns on the Planet!

By Donald M |

Great place for breakfast, they have everything you could ask for in a Breakfast Restaurant. There are 3 of these in Chicago area, so probably one near you. No matter what you order you get “sides”. The sides can include 2 of their world famous Cinnamon Buns, cooked to perfection and covered in a wonderful and rich topping. I’d go back just to eat them again! The coffee is also very tasty and they keep your cup full. Great service and friendly staff make this the place for breakfast in Chicago.

Wow

By Tanyua |

Wonderful food excellent service will come again and again. Its a people place with great desertcozy but nice and good company all aound.

Great Little Breakfast Gem

By Barbara M |

Awesome place for breakfast or lunch! We had breakfast before touring the city. We ordered the corned beef hash which was awesome and it was REAL corned beef! Also, the Swedish pancakes with lingonberry jam were sooo good and we also ordered a cinnamon bun which they are known for. Great coffee and great start to the day! If you’re staying at the Best Western Hawthorne, Ann Sather is literally across the street!!

Love the cinnamon rolls

By Cherie T |

This is a must try. They give you a nice warm cinnamon roll with your order. I enjoyed the breakfast and nice shops in the area.

Great Breakfast

By KLCOBRA |

We went with our family ages 16-51. Excellent service even though it was packed. Really good food - cinnamon rolls are a must try. We will be back!

Always a winner

By Coleen O |

Had a lovely breakfast with my friends and as is always the norm, the food was delicious, service top notch

Huge portions, great value

By Kayla M |

I love this place for breakfast! It’s not any pricier than other breakfast/brunch places and the portions are massive. It’s pretty much a full breakfast with two sides that could each be a meal on their own. The cinnamon rolls are what they’re famous for and they are the real deal. The servers are very friendly, there’s always been plenty of room to sit and no wait when I’ve gone which blows my mind.

More Than Just Cinnamon Rolls

By Jim R |

Encouraged to stop by a friend who extolled Sather's incredible cinnamon rolls we were delighted in a wonderful breakfast. Everything we ordered was terrific and the portions are good sized. The 'fantasy french toast" was tremendous.

So darn good

By gasjoliet |

Sunday late morning we were lucky enough to find a table for 4 when we walked in the door. Friendly waitress, efficient service, plenty of food. Large menu with authentic Swedish/American diner classics. Every entree comes with a selection of two side dishes. Known for their fresh baked cinnamon rolls, that melt in your mouth.

Fun place to get more than your usual breakfast

By dorsalmo |

My son and I were in Chicago and had the opportunity to eat breakfast here. It was a lot of fun to have something other than a traditional American breakfast. The food and atmosphere were fantastic, and the service was friendly and attentive. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting. You'll love it as much as the locals do.

Swedish Pancakes with Lingonberries....

By charlesrankin2015 |

I could eat these thin large with a touch a sweetness....with dollop of lingonberries...but never stop there. Breakfasts, Lunch and dinner....you will always leave with a smile on your face. Can you believe I did NOT mention the cinnamon rolls....egads!

Don't miss the cinnamon rolls!

By steve1143 |

We hadn't been here before so we decided to try it for breakfast with the family on a Sunday morning. We found good service and food, It's a busy place so you may have to wait for a table.

Good Food and Good Service

By Thorntone M |

I went for breakfast alone on a weekday before 9:00 AM. It was a nice size crowd, but I was seated immediately. Within minutes, my server gave me a menu, brought me freshly squeezed orange juice and took my order. My salmon omelette was served quickly. I ordered cottage cheese and a fruit bowl as my sides. My meal was delicious. The service was great. The food was very good. The meal (before tip) was under $20.00. I will definitely be back.

Fantastic Cinnamon Rolls

By Chris G |

Stopped in for breakfast before heading downtown. Large portions and the cinnamon roles are some of the best I’ve ever had. Would definitely stop by again.

Great lunch!

By LET01 |

My wife and I had a great launch here, the portions were big and the taste of our meals was very good -which sometimes doesn’t go together with big portions-. We both ordered omelettes, cinnamon rolls and a house salad. The service was friendly and always looking at our table making sure we were okay. The only suggestion would be to put more attention in the waiter’s cleanliness; the young guy who attended us had a messy apron and his arms had some stains and residues of food. Overall I recommend this place, you will enjoy a good and generous meal!

Absolutely amazing!

By Audareiss |

Went here with some friends for brunch. The cinnamon rolls deserve all the hype they get, plus they're just a side dish! The main dishes are well-made and filling. The staff was superfriendly without being overbearing or instrusive. Will definitely come back soon!

YUM!

By Kris B |

If you are hungry, this is the place to go! Delicious, big cinnamon rolls. I also had a steak omelet. The steak was tender and tasty. Had plenty leftover for another breakfast.

CinnaAwesome

By DSHBOLDLY |

If you are looking for a fantastic brunch spot, look no further. Just start walking to Ann Esther’s and get in line. The food is delicious and fast and the cinnamon rolls are off the chain. It’s not good for your heart, but it’s good for your soul. The Eggs Benedict’s are also worth a look. Happy brunching.

Delicious brunch, great service

By Sharon O |

Brunched with daughters while on a visit. It was around the corner from our Airbnb. You can byob. They are known for their cinnamon rolls which were amazing! They come out of the warm. They had a wide range of items. We ordered the chicken apple sausage and it was fabulous.portions are huge and shareable.

A great brunch, and very quick service.

By Tiffany T |

Very busy, which is always a good sign. The line to be seated went quickly, as the service was incredibly quick paced. I had the French toast fantasy- which according to the menu was recommended by Rachel ray, and my mom ordered the pancakes. It was a great meal. Everyone around us ordered cinnamon rolls - which looked amazing.

Great breakfast, must have sweet rolls

By RusPat_704 |

We love this restaurant for breakfast. We always have on of their omelets with the warm cinnamon buns. They melt in your mouth!

Excellent breakfast

By Allen21096 |

Ann Sather is a really, really good place for breakfast, brunch or lunch. When we arrived, it was not too busy, so we were seated immediately. Kelly, our server, was efficient and personable. We ordered the cheddar bacon potato pancakes and a Swedish pancake with meatballs. The portions were ample and we were not able to finish everything. We took the cinnamon rolls home and they were delicious for dessert. The prices are reasonable. There is parking in the rear.

Amazing Amazing and Amazing

By Andy |

We had previously asked what to eat in Chicago ! And this restaurant was there and we can say it is an absolute recommendation The Cinamonbuns are awesome and have addiction potential 😀 really Mega

Come for the cinnamon rolls-stay for the breakfast.

By jgbtravels |

The cinnamon rolls are the best we have ever had hands down. This is always our first stop in Chicago. The breakfast isn’t bad either and the server always keeps your coffee cup filled. I believe capacity is only 50/60 percent as of now due to Covid restrictions. The restaurant wasn’t too crowded yet we got the last parking spot in their small free parking lot. They now have an attendant that issues you a slip to be signed by your server to verify you dined here. Oh, it was 9:45 am on a Friday. It sucks that non diners are taking up parking spots. The other 2 Ann Sather locations don’t have parking so that’s why we come here. Parking in Chicago is a challenge to say the least.

Light fare

By mjb6517 |

Being a Swedish restaurant, there are no hearty meat and potato dishes. I had 2 eggs over medium and potato sausage, with hash browns and coffee. It came with 2 cinnamon rolls. I had never had potato sausages and wanted to try them. I don't have a reference to judge against, but they were very bland and soft. Don't know if they're supposed to be that way. The eggs were good, and the hash browns were very good, more like fried potatoes rather than the shredded kind. I liked them a lot and wish there were more. The rolls were also good, but not exceptional. Coffee is standard fare, not too strong. The menu has a lot of lighter fare, probably keeping with the Swedish tradition. Prices are high for what you get. I did not have any trouble in the neighborhood like other reviewers. Seemed like everyone minded their own business.

Best Cinnamon Rolls Ever!!!!!!!

By Twtrd55 |

In town to pick up our daughter and had breakfast from here this morning. It was fantastic! My wife and daughter had the French Toast Fantasy and they raved about how good it was. Sweet but not too sweet. I had the Lumberjack Wrap which was huge and delicious. I also had the Cinnamon Rolls which where incredible! Will absolutely be back whenever we visit our daughter.

Great breakfast at decent prices with very friendly staff

By Dazek |

This place was literally three stores down from my hotel. The waitstaff were friendly and fun. I ordered an omelet with asparagus, artichoke, mushrooms and tomato topped with asiago cheese. The two sides I chose were fresh fruit and their famed cinnamon rolls. Everything was great and the portions ample. I was surprised that I got two huge cinnamon rolls as a single side. I could barely eat one of them, so took the other one with me for later. Sitting at the window afforded some good people watching as well. Bright airy decor inside. A real pleasurable experience

Wowww wowwww 😱😋🤤!!!!!!

By Enrique M |

Some amazing people and food omg the Eggs Benedict with smothered gravy sauce over them was delicious and those creamy cinnamon buns no words can describe how fresh and tasty they were! The only negative comment ; The person refilling the coffee and water was rushing and was spilling it all over that some ended up on my phone and he also picked up my plate and I wasn’t even done with it( He never asked). Aside from this everything is 💯 delicious!!!!!!

Cinnamon Rolls As Big As Your Head!

By Just_William_Himself |

Heard about this place from several people, and although we had to stand in line, and the place was crowded and rather noisy, the cinnamon rolls were, indeed, worth all that and more. Makes one wish they'd open a branch closer to home! It may not be worth a trip to Chicago just for these rolls, but... it might!

A must go

By HAM04 |

We went one morning and wish we had found this place sooner, we would have eaten there everyday. The cinnamon rolls were absolutely delicious. I had the Denver Omelet and it was great. My husband had the Monte Cristo breakfast special, it was equally as delicious and super filling. The french toast is really great, too! The wait staff was quick on greeting us, sitting us, bringing our drinks and food. Our orders came out rather quickly. Would highly recommend this place. The decorations were super cute and made you feel at home in another country.

For me, Chicago IS Sather's!

By Kent Lederer |

For the 30+ years I have lived in Chicago, no restaurant has even come close to Ann Sather's. I actually look forward to my weekends, because I hold excitement for Saturday brunch at Sather's. The food is consistent delicious and portions are generous. The service is amiable and swift. And the cinnamon rolls, OMG! You will not believe how good they are...and they come to your table as a part of any meal you order. I've never left Sather's without rolls to take home. Incredible!

Would go back. Cinnamon roll french toast is amazing.

By April P |

While visiting Chicago worth the uber trip. Great place for early breakfast. Must try the french toast with berries, and granola. Also got the potato pancakes. So delicious.

Great New Year's Day Dinner

By jeffl499 |

Offering an expansive menu for New Year's, Ann Sather was clearly one of the best place to celebrate on the upper north side of the Chicago. A basket of freshly baked rolls and a bowl of chicken vegetable soup set the stage for five options for an entrée. We chose the traditional turkey with dressing and duck breast with ligonberry sauce. Pumpkin pie on one side of the table and a special order of cinnamon buns on the other along with freshly brewed coffee closed out the dinner, all for a moderate price. The no-alcohol policy was a bit of a surprise, but a quick trip to a liquor store up the block solved the problem. Enthusiastic wait staff in a welcoming environment, including a brief discussion with the owner made it a memorable meal.

outstanding breakfast

By mlpbjm |

decided to start my birthday by going to Ann Sather restaurant for breakfast, which was excellent with huge portions and delicious food. wife had the Swedish breakfast which had swedish meatballs, swedish pancakes, potato sausage and hash browns. The meatballs were served in a light gravy and were top notch. the pancakes were light and perfectly cooked. potato sausage a miss due to the texture and lack of flavor. i chose an egg scramble with ham and cheddar. you get side dish options here that include potatoes of different kinds, 2 biscuits, or 2 cinnamon rolls. asked waitress if possible, could i get a biscuit and a cinnamon roll to try both and she said sure. plus a side of swedish meatballs which were some of the best i have ever had. had heard good things about this place prior to coming to town and were not disappointed. great food here.

Cinnamon Buns Are Worth the Trip

By nealon321 |

Ann Sather's is located just off the Belmont CTA stop and is a go to breakfast place. Know for serving cinnamon buns with every meal, although they could just be a meal in themselves.

Local recamendation prove to be excellent!

By DWYSYWD |

Local resident recommended we go for breakfast. Seating was quick and we found they turned over the tables quickly. Service was excellent and the food was worth the stop. Four people enjoyed their meals and we will go again when in town.

Cinnabons to go

By TAFairyLP |

We stopped by for brunch. The queue was massive and seemed like way too much hassle especially in the cold with a 6 year old. Instead I got us some cinnabons to go and we headed back to our hotel and had lunch nearby. These cinnabons were amazing. I'm only sorry I didn't get extra. I would recommend just getting takeaway cinnabons if you can't get a seat. The queueing system was wild. Needs improvement failing that if you have no room. Turn people away as there wasn't much waiting room and it was uncomfortably crowded.

Go-to Breakfast in Lakeview

By virginnycar |

High quality, made-in-house food. Lots of heart healthy options in addition to their more indulgent famous sticky buns and other comfort food. Wonderful service in a bright welcoming atmosphere. Hand painted Swedish folk art and a lovely fireplace add to its charm. A gem in Lakeview and my family's go-to for breakfast out.

Karen is Best Server Ever. Food is Great Too.

By Bonnie T |

This is a restaurant we like to frequent fairly regularly. The food is very good - the menu is large and diverse. But even better, Karen is the best server ever. She is tremendously attentive, patient, interesting, and goes out of her way to make sure you have everything you want. Ask for a table in her section if you can.

A lot of delicious food

By flanagan2k |

This is not the place to go if you are watching calories. Everything is large with big sides. The atmosphere is noisy but fun. Plan on a wait at prime breakfast/brunch hours

Delicious and inexpensive breakfast and lunch spot in Chicago

We stopped by on our way into the city for a day trip. The second we walked in we regret not leaving more time to dine in. The décor is incredibly cute and warm, especially during the holidays. Unfortunately we were only able to pick up a few buns for the road. Everyone was super nice. We were excited out of town tourists and they made us feel welcomed. The buns were warm, fluffy, and delicious. Next time we're in town, we'd love to actually dine in.

AH-MAZING

By Roadie27 |

This is a MUST visit restaurant if in the Chicago area. The staff was extremely friendly. They have reasonably priced breakfast options and THE BEST cinnamon rolls I've ever tasted. The pecan roll was also quite tasty. The best part....you get TWO (still in awe) with your meal. The food was delightful. I can't wait to visit on my next trip to the windy city.

Perfect weekend breakfast

By Trea9mm |

Perfectly delicious food! I had cinnamon rolls for an appetizer. Then the Mexican omelette. Not the typical Mexican omelet. It was 3 eggs loaded with avocado and topped with a slice of pepper-jack cheese. The salsa on the side had a very nice hot & spicy flavor. It came with a side of sourdough toast which was also amazing and crisp. The only reason I did not give this diner a 5 is that the restrooms are not handicapped accessible and it was way too loud to enjoy conversation. They could really use some acoustic panels in the ceiling to keep the noise levels down. There is usually a wait so plan your time accordingly. We were lucky to find a parking space in the back alley.

Take in breakfast

By ItchyFeetGettingAway |

THIS is where to go for a late breakfast before a Cubs game. Ann Sathers has been here for many many moons, through neighborhood gentrification and generations of Chicago families. The sweet rolls are always amazing, the coffee hot, and the waitresses ready for snark if you have it. We love this place.

Great Breakfast

By ken k |

Came with family for breakfast. The service was good. It wasn’t crowded on a Monday around 11am. We all got different breakfasts and all were good. A little pricey. Lunch deals better priced.

memorably good breakfast

By Karen7 |

oh I'm still dreaming of Ann Sather's and wondering when I can return to Chicago. The lingonberry pancakes were lovely and we greedily wolfed down the yummy cinnamon buns on top. My friend's French toast with berries looked divine, all with friendly fast service and in a lovely Swedish setting. a real find, highly recommend

Great find!

By Lisa C |

We were walking around the neighborhood looking for open houses and stumbled across this place. It was very busy so we figured it had to be good. And it was!! You order your breakfast item and then you also get 2 sides! And one of those sides is two awesome cinnamon rolls! The cinnamon rolls were awesome and my breakfast wrap was very good too. We will find this place again the next time we are in town.

Excellent breakfast

By Jamey A |

Great food and service. Food came out very quickly. Swedish breakfast sampler and Denver omelette. Cinnamon rolls as a side could be an entire breakfast.

But really, you are just going for the cinnamon rolls

By NiJaal M |

Yea yea yea. I'm repeating the same stuff as everyone else. But for real though... the cinnamon rolls are legit! I had more than that, of course. I'm not some kind of savage. I had the swedish breakfast sampler. It came with a Swedish pancake, Swedish meatball, Swedish potato sausage, an egg (any style), and two sides. I chose hash browns and cinnamon rolls as my side. It was all pretty delicious. I'd probably choose something else, though. I saw someone with an open face turkey sandwich that looked amazing.

A Must Eat Experience

By Dan F |

This restaurant has been a part of this community for years. It was next door when I first moved to Chicago in 1981 and the new location still has the charm of the original. The best Swedish Pancakes! Take some cinnamon rolls home! I love coming to eat here when I am back in town.

Wonderful surprise find!

By Melissa A Allen |

We were walking down the street looking for coffee when we came across this lovely restaurant. The service was top notch, the cinnamon rolls are some of the best we've had and our breakfast was delicious. Down too the smallest details, they have perfected the morning hour and gave a great start to our day!!

Serving first-rate breakfasts for more than 70 years

By Taylor B |

How many restaurants can you name that have been in business for more than 70 years? Ann Sather opened at 909 West Belmont Avenue in Chicago in 1945. It has been serving Swedish-American breakfasts and lunches plus its famous cinnamon rolls overflowing with glaze ever since. I never met the lady. She sold her restaurant in 1981, two years before I moved into the neighborhood, then passed away in 1996. But the "good food, good friends, good conversation" philosophy she extolled over the years has been maintained by the current management headed by Tom Tunney, who apprenticed with Ann Sather for a year before buying the business. Ann Sather made its reputation on breakfast, like traditional Eggs Benedict with poached eggs, country ham and hollandaise sauce; smoked salmon Benedict with poached eggs, Norwegian salmon, fresh dill and hollandaise sauce; home-made French Toast with two sausage patties, home-made hash browns and two home-made cinnamon rolls; steak and eggs Benedict with poached eggs, sliced tenderloin and hollandaise sauce; a Denver omelet with ham, onion and green pepper; and hot oatmeal with fresh fruit and two hot biscuits with honey. Wash it all down with a large glass or two of fresh orange juice. They must know what they're doing or how else to do you keep satisfying customers for over 70 years?

If You Have A Sweet Tooth...

By Ellen S |

We ate here recently. I had the crab cakes egg Benedict. They were decent. The cinnamon rolls, for which they’re known, are delicious, but I recommend eating about half of one and then taking the rest home in a box or you may end up with a stomach ache! The prices are very reasonable, and the service was good. If you’re a person with a sweet tooth and you order the cinnamon rolls with your meal, you’ll probably be quite pleased.

Go for the Cinnamon rolls if nothing else!

By emeraldprincess71 |

Delicious breakfast that kept us full for the a day of exploring Chicago. The cinnamon rolls are delicious and the portions are large. We had breakfast here before walking all over town and it definitely filled us up and kept us full.

Unique Breakfast Restaurant

By yourpalcthulhu |

I like a LOT of what this restaurant has to offer: -Great salmon and Swedish breakfast dishes in general. -Nice Location -Coffee tastes great -Great menu and placemats Here's what I think could be improved: -Biscuits and gravy dish. Not savory. Basically just cream on bread. - Allowing customers full access to restaurant seating at all times -Little pricey compared to nearby competition

They See Me Rollin

By Clay G |

First off, you’re getting a lot of food. With every entree, you get two sides, which includes potatoes, fruit, and cinnamons rolls. Now you might be thinking oh you get one cinnamon roll as a side, but you actually get two as one side. The rolls come before the actual entree as well so get a little appetizer for the main course. If you’re feeling super crazy you can do double the rolls and get four as your sides but please be a responsible adult and get some potatoes or something. I got the sunrise breakfast wrap which was really tasty. It has all the fixings you could want and the salsa that comes with does a good job of adding flavor. For how busy the restaurant is, the food comes super quickly. It was maybe 10-15 minutes from order to reception on Sunday morning during brunch.

Amazing Breakfast!

By CoolKay |

Possibly the best breakfast I have ever had! I LOVE cinnamon rolls and order them wherever they are offered. These were spectacular - served warm with tons of frosting. OMG - these are two die for. For breakfast I had homemade corned beef hash (had huge chunks of corned beef) with overeasy eggs and fruit. To add to the delicious food the service was exceptional. They seem to work as a well oiled team - Helen was a delight! Definitely will come back here and recommend it highly.

BYO Mimosas

By Becca W |

Stopped here for breakfast with my friends while they were in town. There were 10 of us and we only had to wait about 20 minutes on a Saturday morning. We brought makings for mimosas and they provided the orange juice (with pulp, if anyone is wondering). They have AMAZING cinnamon rolls. You can get them as a side - I shared with my boyfriend and we each had plenty. Stop here if you have a chance!

A little touch of the old time cafe.

By Ladye A |

Of course we got the Cinnamon Rolls and they did not disappoint. There is enough for two. Also enjoyed the French Toast Fantasy, very tasty. Hubby loved Ann's Darling Oatmeal. He said it was the best he had ever had. I enjoyed the Swedish Breakfast Sampler. It was very good also. Will be back.

Check out them cinnamon buns!!

By Jami P |

The cinnamon buns are the bomb. Portions are large and food came quickly. Very glad i went. I will go back on next trip to Chicago.

Great breakfast spot in Chicago! The cinnamon rolls were incredible as were the biscuits, and other breakfast items. FAST and Friendly Server! MP

best breakfast

By bradm1001 |

The food here is always great with many great signature dishes. The breakfast wraps and Monte Cristo was fantastic. We always need a side of Cinnamon Rolls. I've had many other things there in the past. It's always great.

Best cinnamon rolls!!

By bridget d |

Delicious! Wide variety of food options for breakfast or lunch. You get two sides with most entrees and one side option is 2 cinnamon rolls. They are big!! Parking in the back. We had the cinnamon roll French toast and one of the breakfast burritos with chorizo. So so good. Will return!

Cinnamon Rolls to Die For

By C P |

We visited Ann Sather on vacation because it came highly recommended from friends who frequent Chicago. We were not disappointed. We loved the cozy atmosphere and prompt service. The staff was friendly and eager to serve you. We ordered the cinnamon rolls and they were HUGE! This is a must visit if you’re in Chicago!

So yummy

By Jordan F |

This place has the best cinnamon rolls! It is a little cramped and very fast paced but as long as you get there early it's fine. I don't remember what the name of the dish that I got was but it was cinnamon rolls made like french toast. Rachael Ray recommended it. It was a very good decision but it was a lot of food!

Breakfast stop

By Chris N |

This is a must visit restaurant if you are in Chicago- we stopped in before a Cubs game. The staff were very friendly and welcoming and the food was great...there was so much we had to take some away with us. The cinnamon rolls were fresh and tasted amazing.

Great food.......

By Ferbes A |

Great service and delicious, fresh meal. Dining there feels effortless because of the place's pleasant, laid-back vibe. I would definitely suggest it to anyone who appreciates real flavors. The seafood was flavorful and perfectly prepared. The freshly prepared pizza was quite tasty. Everything was delicious and perfectly presented, and we will most certainly return soon!

Awesome breakfast. Get the cinnamon rolls for your side!!

By Kevin S |

This was an amazing breakfast, and this place deserves the high ratings it gets. I had the Swedish breakfast sampler which included a side so had to try the cinnamon rolls. Wow, the cinnamon rolls were amazing, and my breakfast was just excellent. Also ate part of my wife’s Monte Christo sandwich and that was also excellent. I will certainly be back anytime I am in the area.

Loved the Atmosphere!

By Denise S |

There's something about traveling and being able to try new places in new spaces that I love. And theres nothing I love more than being able to find a spot that has some character to it. Ann Sather's didn't dissapoint. Located directly across from apartment that we were staying at we gave it a try. Inside I felt like I was transported a bit to Sweeden with the colors and artwork around the room. There's also a cool fireplace along the back wall which gave it a great feel. And it's not huge so it had a very cozy feel to it. As far as the food goes what you're reading about the cinnamon rolls is 100% on point. Those rolls are definitely rich and clearly homemade. Beware...they look much SMALLER in the case up front. When they arrived at our table the side order of 2 could have fed all three of us at breakfast. And if your an oatmeal/rice porridge fan...I definitely recommend the breakfast special of this. Topped with granola, cranberries, & appricots. Tasty. The friendly service on top of things was a bonus. May just have to go back tomorrow!

Best cinnamon rolls

Soft, slightly sweet bites of the best comfort food I've had in awhile. They are worth the trip . Take outvir eat in. Parking behind the restaurant.

Breakfast Perfection

By Bruce F |

One of my favorite Chicago Breakfast places. Food is outstanding! Cinnamon Rolls are Over the Top Outstanding. What makes this place exceptional is the owner is on the floor greeting customers, pouring coffee, cleaning tables, the staff always goes out of the way to make our experience exceptional based on his example.

What a great breakfast

By Kris A |

My niece had investigated and found that Ann Sather had world renowned cinnamon rolls and insisted we needed to try them out. Ann Sather was very easy to get to utilizing the CTA system. Only a short walk from the station. We were so happy the wait was not too long. The 4 of us all got something different and none of us was disappointed with our selections. The cinnamon rolls were indeed wonderful as were the biscuits/honey, omelets and french toast fantasy. We were so happy to have made this breakfast selection and would highly recommend Ann Sather for an excellent breakfast

Delicious lunch

By Stephen P |

We walked a mile past dozens of nearly empty restaurants to eat here. On arrival it was packed with only 1 empty table. No wonder. The menu included the standard all day American breakfast (in many varieties) and a good variety of unusual Swedish inspired dishes. The food was great, service attentive and friendly, and the cost great value. On top of that, we each received one of the cinnamon rolls that everybody raves about as a complementary side. (We hadn't room to finish them and were provided with a take out bag without having to ask)

Good Brunch Experience

By Lily S |

We got in right away in a very crowded dinning room. The cinnamon rolls were wonderful and food was served very fast. Swedish food is rather bland so not our favorite but still good and suitable for this was once a Swedish area and this place has been here since 1965.

Interesting Swedish menu

By John C |

We greatly enjoyed the visit to Anne Sather’s. We had the Swedish breakfast plate which features Swedish pancakes, potato sausage a side of a huge sweet roll. The service was friendly and efficient.

Great brunch food.

By ParkeGreenfield |

My son and I went on a Saturday afternoon. Parking was near. However, the food was very good. We Eggs Benedict and potato pancakes with cheese and fresh dill. Each meal came with two sides. Biscuits were good, but crumbly. Fresh OJ was tasty. Wish we would’ve known how to order a carafe of it. It was busy and noisy.

great food, great service, every time

By Dennis |

if you are in the mood for breakfast on the North Side, stop into Ann Sathers. High quality food, great atmosphere, impeccable service.

Birthday celebration

By lovepontevedra |

Our Swedish roots bring us to Ann Sathers every time we are in Chicago. Love , love , the Swedish pancakes with lingonberries! The homemade cinnamon rolls melt in your mouth. My grandsons were thrilled to hear that several of the “Cubbies” stop here with their families. Yummy home cooked food in a big city!!!❤️

Best Cinnamon Rolls Ever!

By Lisa M |

The food here was great - especially the Cinnamon rolls! They were warm and tasty, and so filling that you don't need to order a meal. We did, however have breakfast burritos which were also excellent. As an added bonus, the service was outstanding! I would travel to Chicago again just to eat here!

Brunch before the Cubs game

By slmartin5977 |

Our group of five stopped in here for brunch on a Saturday before a Cubs game. Our timing was good because we expected it to be crowded but we were seated right away. Our waitperson was friendly and helpful. We all ordered breakfast type foods. I had an egg, bacon cheese wrap which was delicious and came with fresh fruit. The fruit was tasty and actually looked and tasted like fruit! (Some restaurant fruit is seriously lacking) The star of the meal, the cinammon rolls, are a side choice and are served first. The good news is you get two! They are warm and have a yummy icing on them. Try not to fill up on them before your main dish comes, but that is what you want to do! Highly recommend this spot for a delicious breakfast! BTW the menu says if you BYOB they will mix you a Mimosa or a Bloody Mary.

BEST BREAKFAST/BRUNCH IN CHICAGO!

By Marshall Troute |

I been eating at Ann Sather Restaurants for years. It is by far my most favorite breakfast/brunch restaurants in Chicago! The food is delicious-- and yes, it is true, the cinnamon rolls are to die for! But the service you receive keeps me coming back. They treat you with kindness, respect and accuracy. Tom Tunney, the owner, can often be found in the kitchen or out on the floor. He is a "hands on" proprietor who leads a team of excellent waiters/waitresses, cashiers, busers and cooks. They provide the old fashioned customer service you seldom get today, and that keeps you going back!

Best cinnamon rolls and good food.

By elpescadoloco |

I went to college and worked in Chicago. Whenever I go back to the city a definite stop is Ann Satgers for breakfast...This is an establishment you don't want to miss and a local hangout..cant wait to go back.

We decided to grab breakfast

By Stephanie C |

We decided to grab breakfast at this Chicago institution, as we happened to be downtown early Saturday morning, and we had a terrific breakfast! The homemade cinnamon rolls were outstanding, as were the Cajun crab Benedict, Swedish pancakes and Greek omelette. We visited with the owner Mr. Tom Tunney, who was so nice and made us feel welcomed!

Best breakfast

By agmome2 |

You can’t go wrong at Ann Sather’s. Amazing cinnamon rolls. The service is exceptional and only outdone by the speedy and gracious staff! You must stop by when in Chicago.

CINNAMON ROLLS PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

By Valencia C |

We saw this place on Food Network on The Best Thing I Ever Ate. Ted Allen advised best cinnamon rolls so of course we got the cinnamon rolls. Melt in your mouth cinnamon rolls were soooooooooooooooooo good! We also split a Denver omelet which was tasty as well. We dined before going to a Cubs game so it was a mad house. They turned over the tables quickly as half the restaurant was going to the Cubs game. The service was not good as we had an older lady and she just could not keep up with the turnover. The poor table next to us were there before us and she forgot to take their order and they finally reminded her once our food came that she still had not taken their order. Bless her heart. But will definitely return as I had a working grandmother once too!

French Toast Fantasy

By peterbudenholz |

Great breakfast. You must try this crazy good „french toast Fantasy“. Awesome. Very freindly service, too.

Must visit in Chicago

By joeygrizwald |

Fantastic food always. Service is great. The cinnamon buns are incredible. I always stop in for a bite when I visit Chicago.

Sensational stodge fest

By feldy1983 |

Enjoyed going for breakfast so much, that we went the following day as well! Friendly service, bottomless coffee, huge portions and decadent cinnamon rolls. Absolutely epic. Wholeheartedly recommend the corned beef hash, the Southern Decadence was interesting and completely sinful. If you go for breakfast, you don’t have to eat again for the day.

Love it now

By hogiebear33 |

I wasn't sure about coming to this plate as I am not always hot on Swedish food, but this is friendly and the food amazing, not just the pastries! Very welcoming server actually checked out things for us to do during the cold weather that almost shut down the city.

Cinnamon roll heaven.

By Larry F |

Delicious breakfast. I had eggs Benedict and my wife had a standard 2 eggs a d toast with bacon. The ham on my Benny was carved off the bone ham. We had coffee, which was frequently topped off. Do yourself a favor and order the cinnamon rolls.

Cinnamon rolls

By Karla C |

This place was recommended for there cinnamon rolls they were awesome and the rest of the food was great

Very good breakfast spot near Wrigley Field

By Mike T |

Excellent breakfast spot not too far from Wrigley Field. We enjoyed 2 days of breakfast while staying at the city suites hotel a couple of doors down the street. The service was fast and very friendly. We tried the Swedish pancakes which were very good and they really know ho to do poached eggs. The cinnamon rolls and baked goods look fantastic and many people were enjoying them. Will definitely return if in the Chicago area again.

Potato Sausage?

By cheapfisherman |

Try the potato sausage. Just awesome. Yes there are potatoes ground in with the meat. Very tasty. Bring an appetite. If you go with a group, very your sides you you can experience all of them on the menu. Cinnamon Buns were great. Eggs benidict was so good plain my wife forgot to pour on the sauce. The place is BYOB, so bring fixing for mimosa or a body mary. Easy to get to right off the brown line.

Simple

By mikekap24 |

Great food isn't simple. Great atmosphere isn't easy. but Ann Sather seems to have things figured out. It's an all in all "no frills" restaurant that you can go with your family and have great food. We stopped in for breakfast and all left stuffed. We had great breakfast - all fast, accurate, and delicious and each had a side of their legendary cinnamon rolls. They're HUGE! I didn't need a fancy chair or anything out of the ordinary - the food and the overall experience speaks for itself and definitely will make this a "go to" stop whenever I'm back in town!

Awesome Food and Service

By BOS |

Great food and service. Will return in the future. We enjoyed the entire experience and enjoyed the energy of the restaurant.

Love this place!

By Kelley H |

I go to this place every time I go to Chicago. Wonderful place for awesome breakfasts! This time I had the Rachel Ray recommended grilled cinnamon roll topped with granola and fresh berries. Unbelievable! With coffee and OJ-the perfect breakfast. Took a new friend who had never been. She raved about her meal as well. Went on a Sunday and was pleasantly surprised there was no wait. Definitely worth the Uber ride from the Loop.

It’s the cinnamon rolls that are addictive.

By jgbtravels |

We come here every visit to Chicago for the best cinnamon rolls we have ever eaten. Sure, the omelets and other breakfast items are very good, also. The main course comes with two sides. Be sure to make one of them the cinnamon rolls. We generally get the fresh fruit with our omelets or eggs. There is more than enough food and service has always been stellar. Remember, the Belmont location has free parking behind the building. Parking is hard to come by in Chicago especially free parking. So, do take advantage of it. And bring some cinnamon rolls home if possible.

Chicago Northside Restaurant Landmark

By MP336 |

On a recent trip to my former "hometown" Chicago, I had the opportunity to have lunch at Ann Sather's restaurant in Chicago's Lakeview neighborhood. I lived in that neighborhood for 5 years and initially discovered her restaurant on the way to the Belmont "L". Ann Sather is the home of Swedish home cooking in Chicago. It primarily attracts a local neighborhood crowd with its Swedish "folksy" decor and energetic service staff. Although best known for their warm, home-baked cinnamon and pecan rolls as well as breakfasts, we eyed the lunch menu decided on a chicken-avocado club sandwich with lightly toasted multi-grain bread. We also ordered their freshly-made vegetable soup. Both were delicious! Ann Sather can be a carb-loading eating experience if not careful. So, we avoided their heavily-sauced meats. For carbo-avoiders, they also offer a low-carb breakfast option that is available through lunch. Sather passed away in 1996. Before passing, she personally trained a young culinary school graduate, Tom Tunney. Tunney eventually purchased the restaurant when Ann retired. He kept the "flame" and "spirit" alive as Ann would want. An ambitious owner, Tunney opened several additional Ann Sather restaurants in Chicago's Northside plus a catering business. If that wasn't enough, he ran for and won an Alderman's seat (44th Ward) in the Chicago City Council where he has served for approximately 12 years. If you're seeking an enjoyable "local neighborhood" in Chicago's Northside try Ann Sather. I still like their breakfasts the most, but I'll eat their warm cinnamon and pecan rolls any time of day.

Cinnamon rolls slathered at Sathers

By bouncebackmom |

Loved this Swedish cafe, Decor and all. . I selected the Swedish breakfast platter: a very generous platter ample for two to share. One sausage, egg any style, s meatball, and a Swedish pancake ( my favorite) served with tart lingonberry sauce. As if that was not enough, it came with two side dishes: I selected their famous cinnamon rolls and potatoes with cheese. The Swedish pancake was beautiful and a meal unto itself. The cinnamon rolls arrived dripping with creamy topping and perfectly seasoned. The brioche was really spectacular. Worth the trip! TIP: get their early. Reservations for parties of 6 or more only. It's packed! Bring a friend and order the Swedish breakfast and one other side dish. You will have more than enough to satisfy even the hungriest of appetites.Stop by the front desk and select one of the freshly baked orange cranberry los to take to friends. At $5.95 it's an absolute steal.

Wow

By Natali W |

I’ve been dying to come here for years and finally had a chance. Thankfully, our wait wasn’t bad when we arrived. The menu is large with tons of good options. I ordered the smoked salmon Benedict with a side of cinnamon rolls and home fries. My eggs were perfectly poached and the hollandaise was homemade. The cinnamon rolls are the reason why we came and needless to say, everyone devoured them and I’m still dreaming about them. They were everything i thought they would be. Warm and full of cinnamon with a delicious glaze. The kids has the Swedish pancake with a side of chicken sausage. The pancakes were cooked perfectly and the lingonberry preserves were so tasty. It complimented the pancakes perfectly. The chicken sausage tasted homemade but I’m not sure. It was pretty tasty. My husband and brother in law shared the bacon potato pancake and stuffed cinnamon roll french toast. They devoured every morsel on their plate. They Raved about the cinnamon roll French toast. It was stuffed with cream cheese and topped with berries. They also got a side of the potato sausage which is a Scandinavian sausage with veal and pork and potatoes. It was served with a grainy mustard which they loved. I wish we went back.

Amazing

By Alex H |

Amazing cinnamon rolls. Service was good too. Easy street parking. You won't be disappointed. This review needs more characters.....so, cinnamon rolls!

Always Great Food and Great Service.

By Bonnie T |

This restaurant has an interesting Scandinavian menu, so the choices are out of the ordinary. The cinnamon rolls are fabulous, as are the Swedish pancakes. The servers, especially Karen, are friendly and professional, warm and friendly, and eager to give you a special dining experience. The owner, Tom Tunney, is a Chicago Alderman and does a ton of charitable work for the needy. Highly recommended!

OMG

By Partera60 |

If you are ever in Chicago, this is a MUST! It is a Scandinavian type breakfast/brunch restaurant, and it is indescribably delicious, and the service is impeccable and friendly. Don't be turned off by the crowds, the restaurant is ample and the turnaround fast! I don't know what to recommend as everything is so good. If you like salmon, try the salmon Benedict or the omelet. The steak Benedict is equally amazing. Everything comes with "two sides". Please get the cinnamon rolls and the cheesy hash browns. The minute I leave Chicago i am dreaming of this place!

Great Sunday Brunch

By Foodsthatsright |

Ann Sather, located on Belmont in the Lakeview neighborhood, is a great restaurant for Brunch. The food is plentiful, eye-appealing and flavorful. With each entree, you get to choose two sides. Forget the diet and order the homemade cinnamon rolls!! You get TWO huge rolls That counts as ONE side! You can also choose from hashbrowns, fresh fruit, applesauce and cottage cheese. The staff is quite friendly. You feel very welcomed at Ann Sather's.

Awesome breakfast

By Joe P |

Swedish style breakfast, very filling but made with care. The cinnamon rolls are to die for. I brought a six pact home with me.

Great Swedish Breakfast, WOW.

By Patrick A |

Wow, this was an amazing breakfast. I had the Swedish sampler, heavenly. Everyone enjoyed their meal and beverage. Great waiting staff. Lovely experience.

Just ok.

By Karissa C |

Just ok. I had the salmon omelette, cinnamon roll French toast and the cinnamon rolls. The French toast had way too much butter. The cinnamon needed more cinnamon. I wouldn’t go out my way to try it again.

Wonderful Breakfast!

By Susan B |

Our party of 4 visited Ann Sather on Belmont in Chicago last week. We went on Monday after reading that it was too popular on the weekends. We all loved our breakfasts. My husband got the Swedish sampler. My friend and I got the Swedish pancakes and eggs. We both loved the pancakes. Her husband got the breakfast bagel sandwich. I always try to go to Ann Sather when I am in Chicago. The waitress had worked there for 28 years and she was great.

Best breakfast everrrr

By Partera60 |

Everytime I visit Chicago I make an obligatory stop here, fighting hangovers and crowds alike. I agonize over what to order, as the entire menu rocks. EVERYTHING comes with "2 Sides", so make sure one of your sides is the cinnamon rolls (yes, you get 2 giant delicious mouthwatering cinnamon rolls for ONE side). I can't figure out that math so early on a Sunday morning, but I usually get cheesy hashbrowns for my 2nd side, so, I mean, there is no shortage of food... their salmon rocks. This time I ordered the Swedish sampler. O.M.G. I don't know what else to say except go there and order one of everything

Always pleasant and worthy

By Terence M |

One here with the family On a beautiful Sunday about noon in March. The way it was only about five minutes. It was pleasantly crowded and also had tables open; nice crowd. Service was friendly quick on point, joking, and warm towards us. The atmosphere was warm and cozy as it always is clean and friendly staff and customers The food is good as usual. The cinnamon rolls just came out of the bakery and was awesome nice and warm with the melting glaze at Swedish pancakes and Canadian bacon cooked perfectly. The bill for us with coffee three entrées the cinnamon rolls each with tip was $85. When I’m up north and want a breakfast. This is a place I go. Highly recommended and Worthwhile!!

Delicious Swedish Style Breakfast

By Michelle P |

The menu has traditional American breakfast, specialty items, and traditional Swedish items. The cinnamon rolls are apparently a specialty, but we also decided to try some potato pancakes. Yum. Be prepared for a smorgasbord of food each meal comes with 2 sides, and if you get cinnamon rolls or biscuits you get 2. We only had to wait about 15 minutes during Sunday brunch hour.

Cinnamon Rolls!!

By lovealwayslisa8 |

Delicious cinnamon rolls!! Made a specific trip to try them and they didn’t disappoint! (The rest of the menu looked amazing and It was hard not to order the one of everything!)

As good as always

By Clevlander |

This iconic restaurant in the Lakeview neighborhood continues to be as good as ever. They’re very careful about checking vaccination status and IDs and the food and service have been as good as always. The best value is the never ending coffee pot as well as their eggs made to order. Never miss their warm cinnamon rolls. The food is hearty and comforting, and of course never miss the Swedish waffles and pancakes. It’s definitely the place to go for a weekend brunch.

Yummy yummy

By Ann M |

My advice is to be careful what you order to avoid food that is too rich, too sweet and be prepared for too much. This is a lovely old style restaurant with the most beautiful Christmas decorations. The sweet muffin was fabulous--light and airy but big taste. I had a special of french toast, eggs, ham and cheese that I found a bit heavy and rich, so I ate around the edges and enjoyed it. The coffee was surprisingly good. I visited on a Monday and skipped the crowds that line the street on the weekends.

Great food and Swedish charm

By Janet B |

Great food and service. Perfect place for breakfast on a cold, gray morning. It's hard to believe that the huge cinnamon rolls are considered one of your side choices!

Don't miss the cinnamon rolls!

By Susan S |

This place was recommended by a former Chicago resident as a local establishment. And we were so thankful to be "in the know". Wonderful breakfast on the morning of our arrival in Chicago. This was literally the first thing we did. What a way to start Chicago!

Simply the best.

By mulkern |

Simply the best breakfast restaurant I have ever been to. So much so, I ate breakfast there every single day I was in town. Simply the best.

After being told by many people to go here for the cinnamon rolls I would have to say I agree. While there though, they had some fresh squeezed juice mixes that where to die for. This is a cute restaurant with a nice relaxing atmosphere. Take time to enjoy yourself and slow down a little bit.
