It was perfect

By Cooper D |

Melina was absolutely AMAZING!! We had our friends birthday and the food, the setting, the service was all perfect. Cocktails are bomb. I truly think our server Melina made the whole thing perfect though.

Quick bite

By Max H |

Quick bite and drinks on Saturday night in Austin. Taquitos were great! Drinks were so-so, so one can form their own opinion. But a fine place to people watch on Rainey St!!!

Gorgeous upscale tiki design with delicious, interesting fusion food

Really liked this place for brunch. Wish I’d visited in the evening and sampled some cocktails. Really cool place and service was good.

Limited Menu, Interesting Food, Great Server ...

By Happy W |

While the menu was somewhat limited, especially for a person wanting to monitor their sodium intake, the food was good, the service warm, friendly, and helpful. An overall good experience.

Great Lunch!

By David Kennedy |

Anthem was pretty new when we visited in May, I believe, but they knocked it out of the park with a great menu, good service and terrific presentation and taste of the food. My wife and iI are vegetarian, but he other 4 in our party were not. We all left very satisfied and impressed.

Great service, drinks and vibe.

Enjoyed a solo meal at Anthem last night with expertly made cocktails and a few pretty tasty appetizers. I’m no food connoisseur so as a rule I don’t review food except in very general terms. Generally speaking, delicious and comforting. Yelp made Anthem sound like another American style beer bar/restaurant. It was much much more than that with a creative menu with a surprising Polynesian/Hawaiian/Indonesian flair. Cool music, too. Expert restaurant with expert staff. I enjoy quality food and service while being well taken care of when I travel alone and Anthem hit the spot. #Petertravelsalot

Incredible

By Heidi W |

This place is amazing. Fusion of Asian and Mexican. The Freaky Tiki Taquitos were to die for. The shishito pepper queso was amazing. Delicious cocktails as well. The edamame hummus was also delicious, topped with a paprika olive oil that I could eat plain. The blood orange margarita was dangerously yummy. Leave room for the Hong Kong waffle for dessert! Fun, funky atmosphere.

Tex-Japanese Fusion

By Cynthia L |

We went and had only appetizers because we couldn’t choose: Mac N Cheese Miso balls, sweet potato fries smothered, brisket rangoons, and so much more I wanted order. Must go.

Good happy hour!

By Nick |

Great happy hour 2-6pm! Had the itchy salmon and the rangoons! So good! Drinks were good and priced right! Not busy. Good start to the evening!

Surprise surprise

By jaguarsfan |

We were in the area on a Monday evening and as you may or may not know, many restaurants in that area are closed on Mondays. Who knew? Well, we wandered around trying to decide. I read the menu on this place before and was going to pass. After not finding a better option we returned. Glad we did! First, our server was super cool. She was helpful and kept us stocked with drinks and food. I was trying to decide what to order(remember the menu wasn't doing it for me) and she recommended going tapas and that on Mondays, all her favorites were on happy hour pricing. Well, I ordered several of her favorites and she was right. Great food and with tapas, the fam had room for desserts! Thd drinks were good too. Food was interesting, I like fusion but it sounded strange on paper. It was surprisingly good and I'd definitely return.

Awesome Experience!

By Mary M |

We are visiting Austin for the first time. We stumbled across Anthem Austin restaurant while checking out Rainey St and thought we’d try it based on cool “look”alone. So glad we did, we loved it so much we went back a few days later. Not only was the food fresh, innovative and fantastic, our waiter Sean was awesome too. Both times he recommended something we probably wouldn’t had tried, and it was outstanding. Sean was very attentive to us and also recommend some things to see in Austin. We highly recommended anyone to give this place a try! Sean, thanks so much. You Rock! M& T/ Florida

Fun and innovative

This is an indoor/outdoor restaurant at the beginning of the infamous Rainey Street. The food is fun, copious, and a different twist on classics.

Service Ruined the Experience

By Danielle |

A fairly empty restaurant with about 8/12 tables outside taken and probably 4 people at the bar. It was 6 pm on a Monday, so that's expected. The host rolled his eyes when i told him I'd be one person. I waited about 10 minutes before the server (didn't get his name) came by to let me know he'd get water. When he came back, I ordered a glass of wine and asked for suggestions. I ordered two appetizers and they came out pretty quickly - probably about 10-12 minutes. Only issue here, I still didn't have my wine. I waited a couple minutes and the server came back to let me know he'd be back with the wine - which in total took about 20 minutes to get. Food was good, hot and crisp. Once I was about halfway through, as he walked by, i stopped him for my check. I proceeded to wait another 20 minutes for the check. I had then stopped another server and asked him to find my server. Once he appeared, he let me know that he had tables in the other room. He then took my payment at the table and hovered over me while I entered the tip . (1. It felt like he thought I was going to not leave a tip 2. He had no urgency in anything until it came down to me signing the bill. ) I do understand a one person check wouldn't be as profitable for the staff, but my check was still $35 and I would have ordered another glass and maybe something else from the menu but the opportunity didn't even present itself. It was an uncomfortable experience throughout. Disappointed.

Outstanding

We were told to check out Rainey street by a friend and decided to head there for lunch. We discovered that most places are bars that you can bring in food from the local food trucks. On a recommendation from one of the bars, we headed to anthem for lunch. After sitting down, our amazing waiter Martin brought me a cool wet towel (it was 97 outside and I looked like I was melting). He explained the menu and drinks and was especially helpful given his culinary school background. Let me just say that everything he recommended was absolutely outstanding. We had a brisket queso dip that was out of this world. I had the banana dauqri with the skrewball floater - absolutely incredible and helped cool me off. Cannot recommend this place enough - make sure to ask for Martin

Flavours abundant

By Scottybucks |

Very unassuming venue, bar-like atmosphere and informal seating. Our server was extremely attentive and helpful with choices. The food was outstandingly good, really good. The char-buff cauliflower, itchy salmon, brisket rangoons, shrimp ceviche all first class in flavours and a smoked edamame like none I’ve ever tasted elsewhere. Highly recommended if you’re looking for a wide range of flavours prepared to an exceptionally high standard.

Great time at Anthem

Best food on Rainey

By Pkbull |

This is seriously good food!! If you love flavor filled food you really do need to try this gem of a place. We stayed on Rainey St for a weekend. The bar scene is great with cool indoor and outdoor seating but honestly, the food was underwhelming! It was pretty typical bar offerings...burgers, popcorn chicken, nachos and pizza....until we tried ANTHEM. What a treat for our tastebuds. We had a variety of dishes from noodle salad bowl, to brisket breakfast tacos and not so ordinary chicken and biscuit. All were so tasty. Topped it off with pineapple upside down bread pudding! It was absolutely TO DIE FOR!!! (If you love bread pudding). You really must go!!

Tasty eats

Dog friendly patio dining, with an alfresco ambience. Great service. Had a massive salad (nam nom + chicken )that could have fed 2 people. Nice beer selection. Kids menu too. Awesome fried macaroni bites. Would come here again.

Stay away unless you are VERY hungry

We were seated immediately to an empty restaurant. The hostess, after seating us stood at her station and was so close we could almost reach out and touch her. A guy, who we later realized was our waiter, came up to her and made small chat for about 5 minutes as we waited to see if anyone would come over and at least give us menus or water. The guy then went back into the depths of the restaurant while we attempted to flag down our hostess - who did her utmost to keep her back to us and not hear our hails of "excuse me!". Finally, after we got our hostess' attention, our waiter appeared. He was very pleasant once he got to our table. He took our drinks and menu items and disappeared. We could SEE him...he just would not look our way to acknowledge our presence. He finally returned with our drinks. We had to flag him down again to ask about our food as it had been about 25-30 minutes in an empty restaurant. We had ordered the pupu plater, the sampler plate. We would say that it was a mistake, however it would seem anything you ordered would be a mistake since the sampler was a plate of either prepackaged guacamole and tostitos or deep fried something or other that was indistinguishable from its original form. WILL NOT GO BACK!

Fantastic!

Stopped in during happy hour and sat at the bar which was empty as we arrived. Very friendly bartender recommended brisket rangoons which were fabulous. We then ordered yummy fries which were an incredible mashup of sweet potato fries, ginger, aioli and other interesting flavors. Service was fast and attentive . So good!

Awesome Anthem!

By Amy P |

Excellent food, atmosphere and staff! We sat at the bar with Ged, the bartender. He was polite, entertaining and on top of his game! Highly recommend this spot when you are in Austin!

Will keep this on our short list!

Great surroundings and some of the most innovative food I have ever had! Amazingly creative Vegan options!

Food great ...customer service suck

By TravelalotDes |

Ok first time staying in Austin and tried out this restaurant well let's say. If the food match the customer service the rating would be excellent. So we arrived sat down on the patio to enjoy the beautiful weather. We ordered so good so far. We got our water and drinks ok and then we came the food. Food looked amazing, but not everyone got utensils. Then water refills we had ask for like really it take three ask. Then we had two more join us and we ask for the table next to us that was empty. Now it is 1:30 on a Friday and then only have four tables that is be served. We would told that they need to check if the table is reserved really. We asked the hostess and they move the table over. Our additional guests.got utensils, but one of our original guest had no utensils and when asked she didn't get it. We had to ask the hostess for the utensils. After complaining the waiter wanted to pay attention and by then I had enough. Oh yes I told the hostess the waiter was horrible. So in if you don't mind horrible customer service, but good food try it out. To the owner ok this restaurant if you want to make good money doing non business hours make sure you serving staff is on point. It truly will make the difference. My traveling peeps let me know your thoughts and experiences.

great location but food is only "OK"

By StaceyAN |

Austin has some great food choices, but they were predicating thunderstorms so we got food to go. Staying at the Kimpton, it is a short walk over. But food was overly priced for what you got. $23 dollars for fish and chips seems a bit steep. Maybe it would have been better to eat at the restaurant

Incredibly tasty

By SVShutterfly |

I wanted to try everything on this eclectic Polynesian/Asian/Southern fusion menu. Alas, I only could manage one order-the Hilo Sandwich--tasty BBQ and pickles on a Hawaiian style bun--with a side of fried okra with siracha sauce. This was my favorite thing I ate in Austin all week. Every element was perfect. It was a messy choice, but well worth every napkin swipe.

Great food and service by Voss!

By Rick G |

First time in Austin and had a great meal. Voss tailored our meal due to picky eaters and we all had a great time. The flavors were exceptional.

Saturday night

By Joann B |

We had zero reservations and had just flown into Austin, sat right down and had the best meal and experience!!! The ambiance was very cool, tiki torches and spacious inside and out, heat patio, dj and huge bar! We shared a variety of small plates and each one was SO GOOD!!! The yummy fries and brisket Rangoon’s were our faves! Would have eaten there again the next day because it was that good! Great prices as well.

Good food, great atmosphere

This is a very vibrant and energetic place with very friendly and attentive staff. I was attending a conference in Austin, and a largish group of us went to this place and we were all happy with it. The food was very good and the atmosphere was very conducive to some great conversations!

Anthem in Austin, TX

By The Travel Guy |

Anthem is a great restaurant, they have an amazing patio and the service was top notch. I ordered the chicken and waffles and was very different than what you typically get at other places. The chicken has a spicy kick, so if you do not like spicy food, I recommend to choose another dish. It is a Hawaiian/Asian fusion restaurant and is rather a unique menu. The portion sizes are pretty big and they have a great cocktail menu.

Went for dinner while in Austin

Went for dinner while in Austin on a girls trip. The frozen margaritas were really good. We shared some appetizers as well, all good.

Creative environment, impeccable service, interesting menu and delicious food. Located on a funky street with lots of late night options.

Great food and service

By EricSD |

This is one of just 3 restaurants in Rainey street (places that will let in families with under 21’s). The drinks were generally excellent. The truffle fries were superb, wife and daughter both hovered the bread pudding. There are plenty more tasty things to try on the menu too. Servers and manager were all excellent.

An oasis on Rainey Street

By Mangoroni |

We had 3 appetizers for dinner, Mac daddy balls, brisket Rangoon and queso. Nice quiet, intimate atmosphere right in the middle of partying Rainey Street. Prices very reasonable. Will go again.

Really good

By Phil G |

Went with son and grandson, age two. The service was very accommodating of us with a two year old. Were willing to rush some items for the child. The rest of us took our time. Food was terrific, service was the best. Had a Hilo Hawaiian sandwich with fries. Also had lots of appetizers- deviled eggs, edamame hummus, brisket Rangoon, queso, which was awesome, and takings, popcorn chicken. All memorable dishes. Good wine, good vibe. Fun night.

Great food, reasonable prices

By Mls1951 |

Food was excellent. A blend of American, Mexican, and orientalists. Started with a dozen oysters which were large, fresh, and reasonably priced. They came with traditional cocktail sauce and a sesame mignonette. All of the meals we ordered were delicious. Service was attentive. Would not hesitate to return.

Atmosphere, Service, and Food were on point!

By Kentuxan |

A group of us ate here while in town for a conference. The food was great, the drinks were adventurous and tasty, and our server was the best. I may just rush to this place every time I’m in Austin.

We stoppe din for late lunch early dinner and we were treated to a great meal. Asian fusion pops up all over, but this was unique and food was really tasty

Great new dining spot at the top of Rainey Street

By Skip H |

We arrived for lunch on a rainy (yes it was raining on Rainey) Monday. Our group of 5 was literally the only patrons in the restaurant. They had just opened for business that week, and still unknown. That won't last. The atmosphere (and music) was great, the waitstaff and bar staff super friendly (and happy to be there!) and the food was fantastic. Great comfort food with a variety of international flavors and treatments. Case in point, the Miso Mac Daddy appetizer: tempura mac & cheese balls, panko, miso butter corn, scallion, sweet soy sauce, spicy aioli, bonito, ginger shoots.

Eclectic dinner.

By VKB |

Had three appetizers and desert. Shrimps, cauliflower, and the brisket bites. Filling for a light dinner. The desert was awesome Pineapple

Good food and friendly service

By Mr_Alejo |

I came in with low expectations about the food but was pleasantly surprised. I had a delicious salad and my wife had a nice gluten free burger. They were careful with her gluten free food. My daughter loved her mac and cheese. All really good.

A good up and comer

By Steele Musgrove |

Anthem boasts a culturally eccentric menu that classifies itself as Tex-Mex Asian fusion. This might sound strange to people outside of Austin, but for those of us in the city it’s like a more contemporary Hula Hut. Unlike Hula Hut though, it has a much more exciting culinary experience that doesn’t rely on its atmosphere so heavily. In researching the place I had already had my eyes set on a number of dishes including their V-Dog, their furikake fries, miso fried Mac and cheese, and many others. I did end up trying these three things, and none of them disappointed. The Mac and cheese was astounding, and while I would make some adjustments to the sausage of the Vdog it was all excellent. The ice cream in their Hong Kong waffle could use improvement as it was more icy than creamy, and the sambal fried okra is okay, but nothing to write home about. There were more hits than misses, and the misses weren’t terrible either. If no one knows what they want Anthem probably has a flavor for them.
