Delicious!!

Randomly found this place and, after tasting the food, thought it was the luckiest day of my life! Besides the great food and generous portions, this restaurant has a great decor and excellent service. The avocado green curry is to die for!

So so good!

This is a great Thai restaurant in the University District of Seattle. It is labelled vegetarian but is actually vegan, but don't let that scare you off. This place is delicious whether you eat meat or not! I've gone here with vegetarians, vegans and meat eaters and all have loved it. Especially of good value is their brunch buffet. I think it goes until 3 or so but its been a long time since I've been there because I moved away. The buffet has all sorts of goodies including various types of salads and kimchee, soups (which aren't that good. The only things I would avoid) several mains and wonderful wonderful spring rolls!!! Oh my, I have gone just for the spring rolls before!

Decent buffet

By lilbsmom |

My husband and I popped in for a quick lunch here and chose the buffet. There was a fair amount of variety on the buffet. And even though it was close to the end, things were hot and full. Nice soup/curry/spring rolls/pad thai/fried rice/brown rice and some salads. The only dessert was a sticky black rice with coconut milk. Unfortunately, I thought it was pretty terrible. The atmosphere is pleasant and the host attentive. Great to see so many vegan options. I would have given it 4 stars, but later that night my husband had some intestinal issues. To be fair, it could have just been the spices that affected him. But he said he won't go back, just in case.

Terrible service

By Matt |

I have been to Araya's Place for the lunch Buffett a few times and really enjoyed the food. Last night I went again this time for something of the menu. While the food was great the service was so bad I will not eat there again.

Fantastic variety of delicious options

By dustythoughts |

I've been here several times over the past few years and have always had a good experience, both with the food and with the staff. The tofu cream cheese rolls are amazing, being a good balance of crispy and tender, and both their pad thai and their veggie soup are sublime. Their black sticky rice is super good, too. It's not the fanciest restaurant, but sometimes the best food is in the most unassuming of places.

Yummy!!

By coralprincesscake |

This place was heaven to us! Our group consisted of one vegan, five vegetarians and two meat eaters. Everyone - even the meat eaters - LOVED the food! We went on a Saturday around noon. It was busy but not over crowded. We all ordered the all you can eat buffet, no complaints! Service seemed fine for what you would expect ordering a buffet. We were staying down near Pikes Market so it was a little bit of a cab ride there. Next time we are in Seattle, we will be going back.

Favorite Thai place on the Ave

By bridget |

This Thai food is the best. It is Vegan but delicious. Some vegan food tastes like vegan food, this food tastes like real food! So satisfying. They have tofu and tempeh. I think my favorite dishes here are the curries. And the buffet and desserts...don't even get me started.

Surprisingly good

By Simon B |

We stumbled across this place after a walk in Washington Park, and decided to go in for lunch, without realising it was a vegan restaurant. We had the lunch buffet, which contained a variety of very tasty dishes for a very reasonable price. I barely missed the presence of meat but my partner found everything a bit lacking in texture. The dishes were very tasty though, with a good range from hot to mild and a very refreshing salad and fruit bar. A Thai iced tea (warning: very sweet) complemented the spicier foods perfectly. Well worth popping in here if you're in the area.

Vegan Thai

By Linda F |

I love Thai food and have an allergy to shellfish so I loved the idea of a Vegan place. There is a lunch buffet and it looked promising but more food than I was going to eat. The buffet looked like it was fairly fresh. The menu had a nice variety, I ended up ordering the Rad Na and had a lot of leftovers which made a great lunch today. The waitress came and refilled our drinking glasses but seemed somewhat distracted. That being said, we were served quickly and from what I could see of the kitchen ,it seemed clean.

Yes, it's a vegan restaurant, but that's okay...

By Mark M |

It's the Wandering Yank here. 6 of us were visiting Seattle, and since 2 of us are vegan, it was inevitable we would visit at least one vegan restaurant. Normally I'm mildly disappointed when I leave vegan places, but not this time :) I love Thai food, so we had a mix of curry, pad thai, pad sieuw, ginger rice, and basil fried rice. All were very tasty with authentic flavors. Spiciness varied based on our individual requests. A nice selection of local draft beers, and the wine list is better than many places. Decor is the usual Thai decoration thing. Service was the right combination of friendliness and efficiency. And prices were reasonable for the quality. 2 thumbs up from this meat-eater!

Great Veggie Buffet, excellent value

By jmmosholder1 |

I have been visiting this restaurant for lunch a few times a year for a couple years now. It is off 45th in the U District. We always seem to find parking in their lot and keep the car there after we are done while we walk around U District. The lunch buffet is wonderful, fresh and appealing to the eye. Consistency, good value, cleanliness and a nice atmosphere keep us coming back.

great food for the price. once had them at a wedding reception, it was very, very good.

A beautiful veg restaurant

By LESBourgeoises |

If you love Thai food, this is a really fun and affordable place to take your friends for a great group shared dining experience. While vegan, with plenty of options, Araya is also a pleasing destination for carnivores, too. There is a happy hour, which we missed, but seemed to contain delicious food and beverage options for 'steal' prices.

Wonderful lunch buffet, great vegan Thai food, friendly service

By TofuMomma |

We usually go for the buffet. It's a great value for my teenagers as they can put away a LOT of food and we all love Thai. But it's much better than your typical over-cooked, left-out-too-long buffet fare. The staff at Arayas pride themselves on making fresh, delicious food that they replenish frequently so the buffet is never stale or old. And unlike some buffets we've been to, they don't care if you have a hungry teenage boy in your party that happens to go back for fifteen servings. You can also order off the menu, I don't think the value is quite as good, maybe because I have to order a lot to feed my family, but the food is always VERY fresh and tasty. This place is NOT to be missed, whether you're vegetarian or not. Believe me, the meat-centric in the group won't miss it one bit, the food is that good!!

Thai Vegan at Its Best

By lostatom |

Joined 2 friends for the first time today at a Vegan Thai brunch buffet. Totally amazing from spring rolls, soup, and salad though pad thai, vegetables and red curry to warm black sticky rice with coconut milk. Excellent food at a bargain price.

Vegan again? YES!

By Lyonsisle847 |

We happened onto this restaurant on New Years Eve, expecting a typical Tex Mex restaurant, but no! This is an upscale Mexican restaurant with no retried beans in sight. The food was delicious and the service was perfect. My husband ordered the razor clams which were amazing. My salad was light and delicious. We would go out of our way to try this spot again.

Goodauthentic Thai Vegan Food

By Radhakrishnan R |

This place has street parking and may be difficult on week ends. Their food is very good and authentic but the service is very bad. It takes at least half an hour or later for a waiter to come to your table. Mind you it is on a Sunday evening when there were hardly 15 people in the place. Their food is good but MUST IMPROVE THEIR SERVICE> We spent a lot of time to find a parking place but in addition have to wait more than 30 min. to get the attention of a waiter.

good vegan Thai food

By Joel M |

had a birthday dinner here. Real good food, nice friendly staff, great service. It is a Thai vegan restaurant. Eggplant dishes, cashew tofu, sweet and sour tofu and noodles are actually very well made. Alsi, they brought out ice cream for the person in our party who was having a birthday. A very nice touch.

Love this place. You definitely do not need to be a vegetarian to enjoy this fare. Fresh, spicy, good!

Tasty vegan Thai food

By Carolyn W |

We had an early dinner while passing through Seattle on our way to Canada. The food was fresh and delicious. We had the fresh spring rolls with tofu and a yummy peanut sauce. I had the veg fried rice and the hubs had the spicy noodles with tofu and veggies. Large portions and quick service. Very nice waitstaff and lovely atmosphere.

Healthy, vegan, vegetarian, just brilliant !

By smcanada |

Seattle is a brilliant city with lots to do, see, experience and explore ! If you are a foodie, and a vegan/ vegetarian one, then this is food heaven !! I'm here for a month so will be reviewing a LOT of places and I am delighted to start with Araya's. We went for the lunch-time buffet which was reasonably priced at $9.99 and had a huge array of items, made hot and fresh. Taste was exceptional and suited for all palettes. Pros- Good price, wide variety, fresh, hot delectable food. Cons- Very minimal but they were a bit light on servers and hence we had to wait a bit longer for water or plates being removed. (Trust me this was very minor- as I still gave this experience a 5-star rating. Overall, if you are vegan/ vegetarian you must try out Araya's. If you are not, you should still give it a go, for some superb Thai cuisine !!

VERY overrated. Undercooked vegetables.

Super Awesome

By 253owl |

I love the food at this place. It is flavorful, spicy (if you want it to be) and interesting. I will often take friends here that are picky eaters, because they always find something to eat and it's always good. I really want to try the buffet but haven't made it in for that yet. We will drive to Seattle from Tacoma just to eat here. YUM!!!

Popular restaurant near University of Washington

This restaurant is a family favorite for Thai food. We had a number of very delicious dinners which we (six) all shared. The food was very tasty and varied. Service was very good and as we are mostly vegetarians satisfied our desires.

Worth the $8 buffet price. I loved the black sticky rice w/ coconut milk.

Great Thai Food

By hotskoz |

Wow...this is one great restaurant! If you are a carnivore don't let the word "vegetarian" scare you away. This is some real good Thai food. Our service was a little slow but as it turned out they were out of the special noodles it takes to make my request and they were making more. I was willing to wait and it was worth it. Very pleasant and attentive staff.

Food without comparison. So much basil!!! Nice decor. Super friendly and graceful staff. Vegetarian. Best place ever!

I don't understand the rave reviews!

By barb3073 |

I visited this place one evening for dinner expecting wonderful delicious vegetarian options. I arrived and sat waiting for any kind of service for almost 10 minutes! When I was finally greeted and placed my order it took another 15+ minutes before getting my meal. So beware if you are in a hurry! Also the food itself was so bland! I don't know how fresh vegetarian food could taste so blah! Not going back....

Fantastic Restaurant!!! (This is for Bellevue location)

By captainzap71 |

I heard their Seattle restaurant was wonderful, but never made it there. I am SO GLAD they opened on the Eastside in Bellevue! Visited with 2 meat-eating friends and we all agreed it was the best Thai food we have eaten and will be regulars at this restaurant! First of all, the decor and ambience are much nicer than the typical Thai restaurant, which is a nice change. The Avocado Curry was everyone's favorite, but we also loved the Phad Thai and Tofu Orange. We started with an appetizer that I can't remember the name of... a nice mix of items that are then rolled up in beautiful leaves and eaten. It was great, so I'm sorry I can't remember the name or find it in their online menu. The presentation of the dishes are by far the most beautiful I've ever seen in a Thai restaurant! I love that! We finished with a fabulous chocolate cake (and I mean fabulous!) and the Salted Caramel Bar, which was the only thing 2 of us didn't care for, but my other friend liked it a lot. Most or all of their desserts are also gluten free for those who need that. I cannot believe we have a stunningly delicious vegan restaurant so close by! Can't wait go for their lunch buffet so I can a lot of different dishes!

Usually delicious, but this time the mushrooms were chewy

By nightpoet |

I've been coming to this location and the restaurant's others on and off for years and have always had great experiences until my most recent visit. I got my favorite dish on their menu--Drunken Mushrooms--and most mushrooms were noticeably chewy. However, the wide noodles and spices were impeccable.

Ahh-mazing!

By Leminumu |

Love this place! LOVE. They have a couple diffent locations, all are wonderful. I'm not from seattle, but have been here twice, and everytime I go to Seattle will try my best to go back. This the best Thai food I've had outside of Thailand. The people are very friendly and very sweet. They handled a very very very busy evening with quiet ease. The dunken noodles and green curry are so good I could weep. They had a vegan jasmine creme brule that was outstanding. Eat. here. For. sure.

Awesome Restaurant!

By DudeInSeattle |

Outstanding lunch buffet. Even better for dinner ordering off of the a la carte menu. Dishes are fresh, pleasing to the eye, and extremely tasty. To top it all off, everything is vegan as well. I've introduced a number of non-vegan friends to Araya's and they return on their own. I believe that is the ultimate endorsement that any vegan restaurant can get.

The most wonderful Thai and Vegan Marriage Ever

By Jaji14 |

I recently visited Araya's Place for a birthday celebration. I'd been away for a while because last time I visited, it was located on 45th near the Neptune. The new digs still have the golden decor, naturally bright and inviting. There were four of us and we ordered for family-style eating. The Pineapple Curry and the Tom Yum Fried Rice were my favorites; they blended superbly well together. The Spicy Noodle was no slouch--perfectly spicy (we requested a 3 out of 5). The Tofu Lemon has a terrific flavor. I wouldn't likely order it again; the texture of sauce it came in was too syrupy. We'd started with the Spring Rolls. Can't say enough about Araya's Place, except, I'll be back.

We won't be back

By MissS94 |

It has taken many bad experiences to finally write this review. Yes, I keep returning because Araya is VEGAN THAI. Sometimes, the serve is good and the food is tasty. However, mediocre service and food errors is more typical. Recently we dined in and had even more errors than usual, We ordered our regular Tom Kah soup (1 star) and it tasted completely different. It was bland and "off". We ordered the panag curry with two star spice and fried tofu and we received a bland, pale coconut sauce with no stars and soft tofu. It looked nothing like the panag curry I have ordered several times before. We finally tracked a waitress down and she "corrected the dish" but the dish was still pale and curry less. The tofu was fried. the other dish we ordered, the mango salad (1 star) was made too spicy for my daughter to consume and tasted nothing like the salad we'd ordered before. It did not have cashews, as the menu describes. My daughter ordered another dish to replace the one she couldn't eat (we asked yet another waiter to bring this dish because our waitress never checked back with us). This dish was made the way we'd had it in the past but by then we needed to get our food to go because it was getting late. I waited for 30 minutes for my waitress to get my bill and asked her for boxes. She took our dishes back to the kitchen along with our dirty dishes-piling them together in a way that did not appear sanitary. When we arrive home I realized she mixed the curry dish that had been messed up in the same container with the correct dish?! So, in the end, we paid over $50 for $20 worth of consumable food!

Great Selection.

Very good Thai food overall regardless of whether it's vegetarian or not!

By emilyg28 |

We had a very good meal at Araya's in the university district of Seattle. As another reviewer mentioned, I too was very happy to be eating at a Thai restaurant that was all-vegetarian - and very excited that our son would have the opportunity to (finally!) eat pad thai without having to worry about whether it contained fish sauce. We ordered the Tom Kah soup, Thai Fried Rice, and Pad Thai. The Tom Kah was excellent; not only because it tasted full and rich, but also because of the presentation - I thought only meat-eaters could get flaming food but we had a little flame emanating from the center of our communal soup serving bowl - nice touch! Because the Thai Fried Rice had pad thai sauce - same as the noodle dish - I thought they would be too similar to taste much of a difference. But actually we could - and the Thai Fried Rice was better. I can't put my finger on why, maybe because it's been so long since I've eaten pad thai, or maybe the noodles were a bit overcooked. Anyway, I think I'd recommend that if you have a hankering for pad thai, you might want to order the Thai Fried Rice instead. Same spicy sauce, but in a better presentation and with a fresher taste. Overall, though, highly recommended.

Get the buffet - you won't be sad!

By SupVegan |

We tried dinner and it was great, but the real highlight was the buffet! The spice level on everything was low, so if you're worried the buffet will be spicy, you can be assured it's mild. You can ask for the spicy condiment kit if you prefer to kick it up a notch - there's a peppery powder, a chili oil, a chili sauce, and a chili vinegar sauce and you can just add it yourself. The buffet has fresh fruit, salad, and pickled vegetables on one side and on the other it has a variety of curries, stir fries, noodle dishes, fried rice, and even an appetizer and a dessert. Oh yeah, and they offer all you can eat peanut sauce! That stuff is incredibly delicious on anything. You can't beat the price!

New Location Has Positives and Negatives

By Danielle N |

I hadn't been to Araya's in a long time, so when I found out that the Seattle location had moved, I was eager to check it out. The new location is further north on University Way. I love the location! It is in a great spot if you are doing anything else in the U District and parking is easy in that area if you are travelling by car. Inside, the decor was so-so, only a small step up from its old location. The food, of course, was delicious as always. Their lunch buffet has lots of tasty dishes, make sure to arrive hungry! Service was ok, not great, but it never was.

OK for meat eaters too.

By Neil00 |

I'm not vegetarian, let alone vegan and whilst I would prefer to have meat options on any menu if you have a vegan or vegetarian in your party then this place is a good option. We had a super starter (the fresh rolls with a great tamarind sauce), and then large plates of very tasty curry. Honestly the only thing missing was meat. Shame really!

Thai vegan - for almost 20 years

By loveDCA |

Slightly hidden in the northern part of the University district, this place specializes in vegan Thai cuisine - a specialty that they've been known for almost 20 years. Everything was delicious - we had the tom yum soup, spring rolls (both fresh and fried) as well as some of their noodle dishes. Very flavorful with great service.

THE BEST!!

By Lea H |

This is a wonderful vegan restaurant in the University district, The lunchtime vegan buffet is better than any vegan food I've ever had-it varies some from day to day and all of it is yummy. It's really difficult not to overeat. They have salads, spring rolls, rice and noodle dishes, pickled cabbage, different soups daily- all made with healthy food. There are many gluten-free options. There is a large variety of sauces to choose from, but be careful of the ones in the little glass jars- some of those pepper sauces are REALLY hot; but of course you can forgo those. If I could give this restaurant a higher rating I would! There isn't anything really exotic, just extremely tasty healthy food! AND it is reasonably priced-you can go back for more if your first heaping plateful isn't enough. Even if you aren't vegan you will not feel like you were merely grazing. A perfect restaurant for people with dairy, shellfish or wheat allergies.

Unbeatable for a vegetarian Thai treat!!!!!

By Jackie H |

Araya has a buffet luncheon unparalleled in my experience. The quality, variety, and presentation will have me returning there each time I go to Seattle.

Very good vegetarian restaurant

By rtaba285 |

The restaurant offered a wide range of vegetarian dishes, mostly Thai. We enjoyed the meal. It is conveniently located in the University District and a relatively short bus ride or drive from downtown. We were there for dinner. Our local friend recommends the lunch buffet.

Vegan Goodness

By MJ2E |

I am not a vegan however I was dining with a cousin who is so considering myself an omnivore, I decided it was easier to meet her dining needs than mine. Very diverse Thai vegan menu. We shared Tom Yum soup and spring rolls. She had pumpkin curry which she loved. I had drunken mushrooms. Everything was fresh. Quantities are big enough to share.

Nice Vegan food

Dined with friends who are vegan.Enjoyed the food and friendly staff and good service.Reservations were made, so was seated as we came.

Lunch Buffet is Fantastic

By Gerry M |

The lunch buffet is so good that meat eaters (who like Thai food) won't even notice that the food is vegan. The flavors are wonderful and the food is fresh. I think it's hard to find a place this good with nice decor and free parking in the neighborhood that won't disappoint.

Expand your palate

By Washlaw |

A wonderful vegan Resturant. So many choices. Go with a group so you can experience the vast selection of curry and stir fry dishes. The combination of foods far exceeds the norm and doesn't disappoint. Be adventurous and you will have a great dining experience.

Great vegan and veggie options

By RoMistry |

Great variety of vegan and veggie Thai dishes offered including soups like Tom Kha, Pad Thai, Curries and Fried rice with vegetables, fake meat / chicken, tofu, quickly prepared.

Authentic Thai

By Douglas B |

I live in Seattle. I've searched out a couple of dozen Thai restaurants in the Seattle area and have visited Thailand extensively. This is the best I've found so far in this area. Consistent in all aspects of food quality, service and authenticity. The new location on University provides much improved parking, a better space and is more easily accessed. No downside here. The pumpkin curry, avocado curry and lemon tofu dishes are somewhat unique and terrific. Thai ice tea with coconut instead of cream is exceptional. Just go and prepare to be impressed. Sawadee kah

We do keep returning, despite a different doorway..

By bobandana |

I love their drunken mushrooms, very akin to phad ke mao. The sauce had the tang and interest that I have come to cherish and their hottest star was just right for us. To eat a chunk of properly (read: moist) cooked portobello in this dish was bliss. We had excellent service. The side door is their only entrance now. (Feb 2013)

Not as many healthy options as you'd think.

By Morpheus Z |

There's a lot of coconut milk and oil in many of the buffet dishes, and not as many lean options as I'd hoped. Having said that, the buffet was just okay. I'm not sure we'll go back.

Nice place

By Peregrineri |

The building is charming. in a nice location off the street. The food was good, though my friends liked it better than I did. In fact, they all raved about how good it was. They took the bui\ffet, while I ordered Thai pineapple rice. It was good, but not the best I've had.

Bad service

By Mila |

The owners and servers were really rude to us. We’ve been there 3 times and always found they failed to explain dishes properly, had no flexibility, and were not understanding. The food, nonetheless, has been amazing every time. 0 stars for the owners and workers, 4.5 for the food.

Pleasantly Surprised

By myinhilo |

My daughter who is vegan brought to Araya’s Place on a recent visit. Pleasantly surprised how good and affordable the buffet lunch was. Nice selection of curries, soup, noodles and appetizers. Not a vegan but I didn’t miss anything and highly satisfying meal.

Tasty Thai

By Jane S |

The buffet has a wide selection from which to choose - soup, salads, wheat or stir fried rice, egg rolls, mango curry, but my favorites were the two rice noodle dishes. The bill of fare is the closest thing to heavenly dining, in my opinion. Very reasonably priced so that you can go often. A vegan restaurant that my meat-eating friend was dubious of trying but after one meal she's looking to when we might again return. Nice to see such a wide mixture of customers - students from the nearby university, Indian family, businessman with briefcase, tourists....

Excellent Vegan Thai food near the University!

By Hugh A |

I've been a fan of Thai food since sampling famous Bangkok street hawkers in a Singapore hotel promotion back in the 1980s, so when I had to be at the University of Washington for a conference and saw that Araya's Place had a branch on University Way, I decided to try it. I'm not a pure Vegan but have drastically limited meat products in my diet so I was curious to see how the Thai flavors and techniques would translate into a Vegan framework. The result was convincingly good! I had the How Mok with brown rice. The mixture of vegetables was cooked just between still-crunchy and too-soft; the red curry was flavorful (could even have been a little hotter, I think, though I asked for "medium hot") and the soft tofu and coconut drizzle was excellent. I wish I had gone with several people so we could have shared more than a single dish; that's the only drawback of this kind of dining. The restaurant was organized in a pleasant and open way without over the top orientalizing decorations, service was attentive and helpful. A good bet if you're Vegan and in the area; good food no matter what.

Awesome vegetarian thai food

By HolySoul |

This is first thai place where we got in and ate what ever we wanted without asking any questions to server like "does this contain fish sauce" or "can you replace egg with tofu" Food quality was good. We have been here multiple times for buffet and dinner. Buffet is value for money. Buffet sweet dish (black sticky rice with coconut milk) is always same.

Don’t let the vegan thing deter you...

By NM1322 |

My very unvegan 15 year old nephew are here with me after his tour of UW. He was shocked everything was vegan and literally ate so much he was in pain. The all you can eat lunch buffet was about $13 each and delicious. I had the Thai rolls, curry, pad Thai, salad, stir fry and fried rice. All were good. The curry was my favorite. I put some of my pad Thai noodles in it. Attentive staff and easy going atmosphere. Do not miss this gem. Whether you’re a vegan or not.

The sauce is bit heavy & salty, opt for tofu instead of veggie meat

By Travel2Food |

Wed 4/24/13, 6:30: Araya’s Place/UD Seattle, Wa, new address 5240 University Way NE: Tried it on our daughter’s birthday since she likes Phad See-iew so much, nice ambiance, roomy, friendly staff. The dishes came out pretty fast. Mango Salad: nice crispy tofu, a bit salty, could use more green mango; Phad See-iew: great dish, nicely done tofu and veggie. Drunken Mushroom: over seasoned, heavy salty sauce, and default to veggie meat which was not done well. We preferred tofu but this was not given the options. Waitress recommendation. Neh…. Classic Thai Snow Pea: could use a little more thread noodle, again default to veggie meat, tofu was not given as an option, salty. A house Merlot: warm, could be sitting around a while, no zing…. Clean, updated and roomy restroom. $50 for 3. Overall, great seating, good service but not excellent, good ingredients but skip the spongy veggie meat and the heavy salty sauce, ended up drinking lots of water then skipped desert. A no return. We’ll learn how to make Phad See-iew instead. 2 stars

Attractive restaurant with exceptional service and delicious, creative dishes

By DocHoliday62 |

We're vegans who are also gluten-free. Most Thai restaurants use fish paste in their curries which significantly reduces the kinds of dishes we're able to choose from on their menus. Consequently, a Thai place that's entirely vegan was a big draw for us. It didn't disappoint. This is a combination of modern fusion food and well-executed traditional dishes. Some dishes including the chili eggplant, Panang curry and glass noodle salad were incredible! Our only criticism seems to be a cultural difference between Asian restaurants in Canada and the U.S. In Vancouver, the assumption is that patrons will eat communally, sharing what's on offer. Americans on the other hand, don't seem to want to share. Each plate is designed to be consumed by an individual diner. This results in redundancy i.e. an assortment of the same vegetables recurring in everything we order. In Asia, a dish is nearly always centered around one or two theme ingredients, and the number of things you order (or guests in your party) increases the variety of the meal. Next time, I'm going to ask if they can vary the fare by NOT putting broccoli, zuccini and carrots in everything!

Beautiful building, but the foot is nothing special

By Nardiesally |

Located tucked back off the street in the former Rovers Restaurant this place does a good job with Thai veggie and vegan dishes. They deliver a lot of food so the place is busy with that all night. Creative, but not particularly tasty,

Something special

By dos_companeros |

There's just something special, maybe a freshness about the Thai restaurants that I simply love. Araya's is on that short list. And you won't miss the meat. It's located out in the university district so most tourists are going to miss it and that's too bad. We visit a relative in Seattle so we get out of the downtown more than we might otherwise and really enjoy Seattle's neighborhoods, especially the restaurants. Highly recommended.

We get takeout from here...

By Adventurer84331 |

We get takeout from here regularly and their buffet is amazing as well! The peanut sauce is delicate yet flavorful and the salads, spring rolls, rice and noodle dishes are all delicious. The prices are affordable too, which makes it all the better! Even my meat loving people dig this spot! I also adore the friendly staff- my husband and I started coming here here years ago when we first started dating, and they always remember that and take the time to come over and chat with us, even when it's busy. The atmosphere is chill with jazz music floating in the air on top of the mouthwatering aromas coming from the bustling yet spotlessly clean kitchen. This is the best Thai in Seattle, hands down. Check it out and you won't be disappointed.

You will kick yourself if you miss out on this wonderful food

It was a complete privilage to eat here. The food is fantastic. In my travels I have never tasted food quite as good. I am a total carnivor and this food was so wonderful I would consider going vegetarian. Really folks you have to try just once..

Great vegan restaurant

Delicious vegan meals, beautifully presented. The place is very charming, the service is fast!!!!, and the price is right. It almost feels like a fast!!! food place, BUT the taste is out of this world. Don't miss it if you go to the U district!

Highly Recommended

Health hazard, and all staff is very rude

By Bobby-Jerry |

I've been here twice. I won't come back again. This restaurant is a HEALTH HAZARD to the general public. One of the employees came over and started taking to me in my face, five inches away from my face. I could smell his breath, he was that close. None of the hostesses talk to you, or even look at you. They didn't reply to my "hello" and "thank you" and "good bye" either time. They don't treat you like a human being here.

Frozen veges at a vegan restaurant?

By CliveDexx |

I first went to Araya's during lunch. They had a buffet going which looked pretty good. I asked the waitress which dishes were vegan and she said they only serve vegan; which is good since I don't have to ask any more questions when ordering from the menu. The buffet was good, so I brought a friend for dinner about a week later. When we walked in, the first thing we noticed is that there was zero staff visible and the restaurant was full of people with menus in their hands. Not a good sign. However, it was a sign that we ignored and waited a few minutes before a busboy noticed us and sat us at a table. To our waitresses credit, she was doing great with the unenviable task of waiting on the entire restaurant, which included a twelve-top, by herself. However, to be that understaffed is unforgivable on the part of management. I don't know if that's typical, but she should have had some support. When we got our food, it came up separately which is not uncommon in Asian restaurants where the cooks rule the roost. However, it was a good ten to fifteen minutes before the last dish came up. The tofu in my dish (Mow Pow or something) was so brutalized during cooking that it looked like a cottage cheese dish. It was bland to boot. My friends dish had peas and carrots (not mentioned in the description) which looked and tasted as if they had come from a frozen bag of veges. I expect this in an Americanized Chinese restaurant, but not a vegan thai restaurant. I would probably go back for one more try, but there is a another vege thai place just down the road that is much better, so I don't see the need in taking the risk. I'll end with the good. The meals are cheap ($9 average), the atmoshere is relaxing, and the waitress was very skilled.

Fantastic!

First of all- it’s VEGAN! How awesome is that? My meat-eating boyfriend loved every dish he tried! Buffet lunch for $8.99. Excellent peanut sauce and crispy spring rolls, plus really good green curry, pad thai, fried rice, black sticky rice. Every dish was really great. Very nice looking place, peaceful… very good service. Wish they ran a place near my house! SO GOOD.

Best meal of my life!

Food was so good here that I wrote the chef a thank you letter on the back of my receipt! You have to try it if you are in Seattle.

Excellent brunch that just happens to be vegan

By Jeff B |

Saturday brunch with family. Excellent value FOOD: 4.0: Very good, including for non-vegans. Many choices on the brunch line, and the chefs made sure nothing ran out. And it all tasted very good; I especially enjoyed the spring rolls. SERVICE: 4.0: Friendly and prompt. AMBIANCE: 3.5: Clean and green.

Lunch at another Seattle Thai restaurant

By ramsey48 |

This was the third Thai restaurant that I had lunch during my recent trip to Seattle. I ordered silver thread soup which consists of tofu, mushrooms and very thin rice noodles in a vegetable broth. I was disappointed because it lacked the variety of flavors that are in many Thai dishes. This restaurant has a reasonably priced buffet which would likely be a better choice since my experience was limited to one fish. The service was okay but a little bit slow. I note from Trip Advisor that there are other locations for this restaurant in Seattle and surrounding area.

Amazing!!!! Vegetarians and meat eaters alike will love this place!

This is not just the best vegetarian thai food I've ever had, its some of the best food I've ever had period. You have to have the avocado green curry, it is to die for, the pad thai was exceptional as was the green papaya salad. Do not come to seattle and miss this place- GO.

Loved the Buffet!

I am very picky about my Thai food let alone Vegan Thai. I LOVED this restaurant. My daughter and I stopped for their lunch buffet - $9.99 all you can eat. (served 7-days a week) They offer a "salad" bar selection which includes veggies and oranges, an entrée bar, a soup offering and for dessert, black sticky rice with a coconut cream to pour on top of it. The entrees included Phad Thai, Thai fried rice, a curry vegetable, stir fry veggies/tofu, Spring rolls and peanut sauce. There is a regular menu of entrees available besides the buffet (but go for the buffet!) The restaurant is small but it is light and airy. The bathroom is beautiful! There is street parking available. Can't wait to go back!!!
