FABULOUS!

By lennon |

This restaurant is beautiful! I love the food, and also Kristen Kish is absolutely amazing! Please go if you want perfect food, and a incredible hotel. The waiter "kirby" is great, and overall the atmosphere is fabulous. I would recommend bringing children 10+, but all who come, will LOVE IT! I also suggest coming for dinner as well as brunch. enjoy!

What a find!

By Helen Brown |

I had asked a friend to find somewhere downtown and near my hotel. We didn't expect this! Great atmosphere, food and service. We will go back!

Expected more

By lm55417 |

All four of us who dined here are huge fans of Top Chef and Kristen Kish but we were all left wanting more. We wanted to enjoy the food more than we did and we all wanted better service. Our server was friendly and knowledgable but was not attentive at all. We waited almost 5 minutes after being seated before our server even approached our table. We ordered drinks and wanted to order a couple of sharable plates, but were turned off when the waiter tried explaining the concept of the menu - which he didn't do a very good job of, BTW. Some of us felt the pacing between courses was too slow, others disagreed but we all agreed that simple things like our server stopping by to see how our food was after we'd had a few bites should have been a given - don't wait until we've almost finished that course. We were also disappointed with the lack of clearing our table between courses. The food runners were bringing food to a table that had no space because no on was clearing the plates as we finished. Overall we were disappointed in our experience and probably wouldn't go back.

Crispy Rice is amazing!

By newell701 |

Chef Kish is inspiring. Our meal was full of surprise and delight. We will be back for more Crispy Rice and Shortribs!

Great vibe just salty

By mvaner |

The atmosphere is amazing and our waitress was perfect! The food was disappointing. It was too salty. Left us grabbing for more waters. The burrata itself was good but the melon was tasteless and the pesto base was just too salty The best dish was the mafaldine. Creamy base with champagne mushrooms. Very good. We got the pork chop and again, just way too salty. If you want a good vibe with great drinks, this is the place to go. But the food was just disappointing for being a top chef chef.

Great Breakfast

By ian |

Very good breakfast at the Line Hotel Comfortable surroundings and in house baked breads make for a delightful breakfast and inexpensive as well

This hotel restaurant is worth a visit.

By scott46 |

Brunch menu was small but diverse and the cocktail and wine menu was interesting. The restaurant is part of the downtown Line Hotel, a massive re-do of a '50s chain hotel, and the ambiance throughout is very cool. Service was a bit diffident but we would definitely go back. After your meal, be sure to go to the rooftop lounge and enjoy the scenic views of the Colorado River below.

Wow! Try this place!

By terithedramaqueen |

So I remember when this hotel restaurant used to be a TGI Friday’s! What a change!! It’s really pretty. Great place for a date, a birthday or to grab a bite while you stay in the attached hotel. It’s in a great location- walking distance to everything downtown in Austin. As for food, it’s on the rad expensive, but good portion sizes!! They’re flexible on ingredients when we needed to take out a few items. The staff was wonderful. Reserve on Opentable so you know you’re getting a table. We had this crispy rice dish, a pasta dish, split a burger, and wow! Everything was great! The bathroom was the Korean story of Cinderella with a audio book version playing instead of music which was cool. The desserts looked ok, but I personally would wander down to the Fromont Hotel down the street and pick from a much larger variety. Arlo was definitely worth a try! (Afterwards, go try Bar Bar secret Bar just for fun)

Wildly mediocre

By farger1909 |

Wildly mediocre. We went for our 26th wedding anniversary dinner and the food was average at best. We went based on the reviews and ratings but were very disappointed and did a ‘do over’ at a later date. We ordered a vegetarian pasta dish based and it was supposed to be family portions to share based on the descriptions and the waiters recommendations. We had kind of bland sad pasta which we shared, but got food later that night. The cocktails were ok but nothing I couldn’t have made at home. The plant decorations were nice. Over priced in general. In a hotel. I think they moderate their reviews for sure. Plenty of people at the bar in flip flops and bathing suits, likely from the hotel pool next door. Would never go back.

AHMAZING MUST TRY in AUSTIN, CREATIVE CUISINE in SUMPTUOUS SETTING Definite 11 out of 10 Deliciousness.

By NomadicNinja |

***FOOD: AHMAZING MUST TRY in AUSTIN. Everything was so delicious, creative & memorable. AG OYSTER MUSHROOM - wow craveable delish. KANPACHI CRUDO- sort of a white gazpacho was so fresh and delicate. AG TILEFISH - melt in your mouth delish. Like heaven in your mouth delicate and flavourful. CRISPY RICE - good but could have had more crab. PORK CHOP - absolutely excellent. Cooked perfectly juicy. Sweet potato side was good too. ***COST (OUT OF 4$) $$$$ ***DÉCOR: sumptuous. Love the planters, the colors, hints of gold, pictures of TOP CHEF Kristen Kish & pages from her notebook of menu ideas subtly on the walls. Smokey moody but elegantly meshed together decor. Check out the whimsical bathrooms where they play a Korean soundtrack of a poem/story reading. So COOL like the menu and the food. ***SERVICE: Kristen even came out and presented us with a bonus free dish. So shocked didn’t hear what it was exactly but the buns & appetizer was delish. Fast & friendly, food and drinks came pretty fast. Waitstaff were prompt filling our glasses and very professional. ***RECOMMEND: HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND. WILL DEFINITELY COME BACK to eat again to sample new menu items. Utterly creative dishes.

Highlight of the hotel

By Jennifer E |

Arlo Grey is a fabulous restaurant. The chef is fantastic. Initially upon sitting down the menu looked a little limiting and was not overly descriptive. However, give it a second and you see that there is plenty to chose from and the staff is knowledgeable and passionate about the food too. Lots of fun stories etc. Cocktails are nicely crafted and dessert, not to be missed. The lunch box cake-my absolute favorite! While I may not stay at the hotel again, I would definitely come back to Arlo Grey and recommend it to others.

Get the rigatoni

By Kevin B |

We split a few of their medium size dishes. For a fine dining place, I thought the portions were decent. 3 dishes and desert with tip came out to $100. The rigatoni was the real start with a delicious mushroom cream sauce. The bacon and crab crispy rice was also good. It almost had a rice cake top and tasted like popcorn because of the fried aspect. The rabbit dumplings were just okay. Desert was a cardamom ganache with a cookie. The cardamom was a bit strong at first but paired with the citrus it was a delicious bite. Really nice spot and overall enjoyed the meal and service.

Such a beautiful restaurant!

By Portia P. |

This was one of the few restaurants on my must-eat list when I visited Austin this past weekend as I am a big fan of Chef Kish. Arlo did not disappoint. I think I got extra lucky since I visited on super bowl Sunday and it was not very busy. Everyone was very nice & attentive. The aesthetic of the restaurant is beautiful (I like how there are many vibes/seating types in one space) and the food + cocktails were yummy! Even though it is straight ahead when you walk into the hotel when I was in the restaurant I forgot I was in a hotel. Can't wait to go again!

Elevated midwestern cuisine?

By kennydb69 |

Our very kind waiter made a special point of telling us that the concept of this restaurant is “elevated midwestern cuisine”. Ok, sure, that description works for what you get, but that’s NOT a compliment!! So shelling out $20 for “gourmet hamburger helper” (again as described to us by our waiter) is not my idea of a 5-Star meal.

Thumbs Up

By Justin B |

Visited for the soft opening, and it was fantastic. The service was a little slow at the bar, but it was packed- so it totally makes sense. Staff is great, the food was impeccable, and the drinks were tasty. View of the pool and lake is beautiful. The tartare was probably my favorite. Haven't stayed at the hotel, but the lobby/decor was stunning. Highly recommend!!

Grouchy Hostess

By TexasTandE |

Made a reservation and planned to eat dinner there while staying at the hotel. Our party of four decided to leave after the hostess was such a snippy grouch. Had dinner down the street instead.

For drinks, it is fine. For food, ????

By D M |

We were going to eat here. We ended up just having drinks and going elsewhere for food. Drinks are small and less volume than a typical bar/restaurant, and pricey. Food options are quite limited, and judging from food on surrounding tables, more effort is put into trying to make the food look pretty, and amount of food look sparse for the money paid. We decided to leave after drinks, as nothing on the menu stood out to us, and hearing other tables talk, many had issues with the food served (wrong order, not hot, special requests ignored) so we went elsewhere to eat and glad we did. It was also VERY hot in restaurant and IO hope they look into turning down the A/C with summer here.

Arlo Grey Austin - Line Hotel

By Michael E |

A top 10 chef Kristen Kris makes Arlo Grey menu come alive. The dinner and brunch menu are both amazing and will keep you coming back. The service of the staff is impeccable and they will cater to your every need. The view of the lake out of the wall of windows is breathtaking. The decor and Lighting create an Ultra chic atmosphere that will relax you from the moment you walk in. The Line Hotel is amazing and this restaurant is the icing on the cake.

Every Detail is Perfection

By NLKDE |

From the decor to the glassware and flatware Kristin's mark is all over Arlo Grey. And the food is fantastic. We went for lunch but it seems that is no longer an option. Hopefully some of the wonderful dishes off our menu will continue including the parsnip dip, the mushrom toast and the burger--each were delicous. I only wish it weren't so far away since I'd like to be a regular.

Dining with two Top Chef winners’ food

By Qpower1 |

My daughter came in from SF and I from Boston here to the center of Texas for a memorable meal helmed by Chef Brooke Williamson and the evening was magic !

Phenomenal dinner

By paws1393 |

The service was terrific and the view of the Congress Avenue Bridge was great, but the food stole the show! We started with burrito and brea, moved on to malfaldini and then shared the burger, fried. Hi ken and pork collar. Chef Kish really outdid herself. This is one of the best meals we have had. Finished the evening with. Lunchbox chocolate cake and lime sorbet. We were lucky enough to meet her Kish personally and pass on our compliments. Can’t wait to return to this restaurant.

Very good!

By DeannaBK |

Started with martinis. Well made and generous size. Started with the burrata and olives. Both very good. Olives were a pretty heavy appetizer. The grilled bread was great. Ordered the pork chop and halibut. Both were absolutely amazing. The server suggested that we order 6 items between the two of us but that would have been way too much food. Only negative was that the wine list is pretty limited and the dessert options were just okay. Would recommend and return.

Scrumptious and diligently prepared dishes from the kitchen team run by top chef winner Kristen Kish

By unescotravelbug |

Our family members chose Austin as a place to enjoy our pre-Thanksgiving feast due to its reputations of having variety choices of scrumptious foods and vibrant atmosphere. Two of my children had been in Austin previously, so they took responsibilities to recommend and arrange the reservations for our weekend dining experiences. Among the recommended eateries, dining at Arlo Grey was the highlight of our enjoyments. We had a round table to accommodate our needs and a small favor to ask if Kristen Kish, the owner and top chef winner, could give her personal signature on the dinner menu that I intended to keep as a personal collection. Wait staff said that she wasn’t sure but would let Kristen know. She then offered us tips on choosing items on the menu and recommended that we shared the variety of dishes to enjoy what they have to offer. Our meals came in a timely fashion and presented professionally by the courteous service staff. We chose 10 items from appetizer and main course and then 3 desserts, shared among 7 of us. All in all, we enjoyed every well prepared, delicious dish with fresh ingredients. After we finished our desserts we saw Kristen came in the dining room and went right to the kitchen, but it didn't take long, we saw her came back toward our table. She greeted us with her genuine smiles and warm welcomes; holding on her hand was a special card stock menu with her signature on it. We introduced one another and chatted a few minutes and then asked if we might ask for an opportunity to share a photo together, she kindly honored the favor. We not only had honor to meet her in person but also enjoyed delicious meals shared by her talents in the world of fine cuisines. Arlo Grey is located inside of the Line Hotel on South Congress Ave., by the lakefront of Colorado River. Menu featured French and Italian inspired cuisines also included are Asian cuisines that inspired by Kristen’s biological connections with the region. Arlo Grey offers guests with upscale fine dining experiences in a friendly and relax atmosphere include outdoor dining by the lakefront.

Kicking off Austin

By Matt A |

Came here our first night in Austin and it didn't disappoint. We came to experience one of our favorite chefs from Top Chef and left wow'd by the staff. They made the experience worth the trip to Austin alone. Perk of the location of the restaurant is that we got to watch the bats come out right from our window table!

Stunnning food and service

By nuk |

I had an important business lunch here. Luis and the crew at Arlo Grey were SO helpful, even though there was only four of us. The food was amazing. Each dish was so well prepared, and with wonderful flavours and prepared to perfection. All of my guests commented on how well cooked the chicken was, and the accompanying sauce was incredible. As exceptional as the food was, it was outclassed by the service. Some of the very best I have ever encountered, anywhere in the world. I cannot thank the team highly enough. Luis' help both before and after the lunch was much much more than I would ever expect or ask of anyone. The icing on the cake? The bill was much less than I would have expected! Highly recommended!

Disappointing

By gazooby |

Aside from the food, the visual and physical quirks of this restaurant were hit-and-miss. The chairs were uncomfortable but the bathroom was mind-blowing fun. Unfortunately the food followed the same pattern. Some successes — crispy rice — were followed by bland and boring steak, bruschetta and other items. Starters generally more successful than entrees. Service generally good but in the friendly fill-your-water-glass manner rather than highly trained and focused on best customer experience.

Wonderful food and service

By SACHEF |

My husband and I just dined at Arlo Grey on the 4th day after its post-COVID re-opening, and we had a fabulous experience. If there’s one thing all the pandemic shutterings have reminded me, it’s that what makes you miss a restaurant is not just the food, but the feeling of serenity and being taken care of. Arlo Grey is beautiful and calm, and it’s lovely staff is sweet and caring from the moment you approach the host stand. The menu focuses on what Kristen Kish does best - elevated comfort food. We loved everything, but the burger was a revelation - whoever thought that mashed potatoes on a burger would be so amazing? We really loved the wine list too - super reasonable by the glass and bottles. Congrats to Chef Kish, her staff and The Line for such a welcoming and delicious place to shake off the corona.

Austin weird and still worth the $$$.

By ECSommers |

We came to visit my son and his family and decided first off to eat at Arlo Grey. Bran was our server and was simply amazing and attentive. He fully explained each of the items on the menu, and told us which had large vs smaller portion sizes, and suggested the perfect Chardonnay to pair with the halibut. Down to the food…..we ordered one of every salad, and none disappointed. The heirloom tomato salad with the sweet tomato jam was fabulous, but the crunchy lettuce salad was so layered with flavor, there wasn’t a bit that didn’t offer something else new and refreshing. The burrata salad, with its smoky flavored grilled sourdough and the soft, silky ricotta impressed, and the crudo was bright and fulfilling. Every dish had a small taste of a fresh herb, which highlighted each dish and brought it to life. The halibut and purée was utter perfection and was the perfect size for one hungry person or two people sharing the dish and the potato chips were tiny crispy salty bits of tastiness! The schnitzel was enough for an Army or 2-4 people sharing plates; the crust on the chicken was delish, as was the aioli and the shredded pickled kohlrabi . The wild rice was buttery, but didn’t overwhelm the dish.the crispy rice had so many different textures and tastes. Two of us had the baked Alaska; the tanginess of the warm pineapple rum sauce complemented the rest of the dish wonderfully. The Whoopie pie is not your kids’ overly sweet version, but a delightful grownup version. The candied carrot cake and the foamy frosting of the carrot cake, with its surprise of basil tips did a lot to redeem what I felt was a cake that wa sa but underwhelming. However, all the rest of the food more than made up for that small disappointment. Suggestion? Coffee. Not just espresso. Thanks for letting us dine and review!!

Amazing

By AlamoTiger |

Due to the serving style, shareable plates, and fairly large group; we were able to try almost every dish on the dinner menu. The food and service were outstanding. Portion sizes were sufficient for everyone to get a taste of each dish ordered. Desserts were innovative, beautiful and scrumptious. As an added treat, we were able to see the bats pour out from under the South Congress bridge around sundown. I’ve eating at many of the restaurants rated higher in Austin, but none hold a candle to Arlo Grey!

Fantastic Food. Especially the Fried Chicken

By NMO941 |

Went to Arlo Grey based on a friends recommendation. Every single item we had was delicious. The fried chicken was one of the best I’ve ever had. The dessert was incredible and the fried steam bun was over the top. The staff was incredible, especially when they were out of the bottle of wine we wanted. The manger, Luis was very generous a comped a bottle of wine for us to make up for it. We will definitely be returning

Creative, New Level of Deliciousness

By TravelerPaul_12 |

Outstanding food. Takes various items to a new level of deliciousness. Most items are sharable. We shared the pork chop, along with several smaller dishes. Pleasant setting, on Congress by Lady Bird Lake. Service was very good.

Great Food, Worth the Attitude at checkin

By rwang0 |

Top Chef Kristen Kish's food doesn't disappoint, but the check in staff sure does. We arrived 20 minutes early for a reservation. The restaurant was only 60% full. However, the staff had that snooty attitude that we'll make you wait because we are hot stuff. So, we sat in the lobby for 25 more minutes until they called us in. They were still only 70% full. Once we got past those shenanigans, it was time to order and we had some great stuff. on the menu. The server and the wait staff were amazing. Burrata was excellent. Good texture, great creaminess and wonderful flavor. What was even better was the smokiness of the grilled sourdough. Thickly cut and properly toasted, the bread had a texture and al dente quality that was hard to beat. Mafladini was cooked to perfection. The mushrooms reduced and dried and reconstituted were packed full of flavor. The pasta was amazingly al dente and well coated with the mushroom sauce. The star of the show was the Berkshire Pork Chop. It was so good, that you wanted to enjoy every last morsel and the bone. We had the pistachio mousse for dessert and that had an amazing range of flavor and lightness all in one.

Strong drinks and a very unique burger

By Laura B |

For the price and the hype, it's average. The burger was exceptional with a very interesting frothy potato-based topping that we loved. But the hostess was pretty rude -- she ran into people she knew on the way to bringing us to our table, and then left us sitting there without menus for several minutes as she caught up with her friends. It was about five minutes before a server greeted us and the food service was pretty slow.

Fun restaurant and tasty food

By Travellover6128 |

We had a lovely meal here. Cocktails are good, we shared the burrata as a starter then also had the burger and pasta as mains. The burrata and the pasta were definitely the highlights of the meal. It is a little on the pricey side but it is a nice atmosphere, plenty of space between tables and decent quality food.

Incredible food, atmosphere... but terrible service

By Danielle |

I dined here with a group and had a beautiful table. It's in a fun hotel with amazing views, plants everywhere (my favorite) and a great vibe. The menu is limited, which I appreciate, and almost all of us found something we liked and enjoyed. (One of us ordered the gnocchi and that was disappointing and unlike any gnocchi I had seen before) The biggest bummer of the dinner was the service. We never received more water and our server was almost non-existent. Food came out in a reasonable timeframe, but we were never checked on. This could have been one of those dinners where you leave feeling full and excited in so many ways, and instead, I just had a full belly.

Gorgeous Setting and Superb Dining

By Lynn P |

Appealing and spacious décor. Friendly and approachable service staff. Good selection of choices and smallish plates create an opportunity for a self-designed tasting menu. Loved the burrata and the fried buns were both different and delicious. There are also large plates meant to be shared. We tried the duck breast with brussel sprout confit. Crispy skin on the duck and although the flavor and texture of the confit was good, there was a bit too much crunchy finishing salt. Wow your taste buds with the lemon mascarpone dessert.

Fantastic Fine Dining

By Icarus4335 |

Excellent food all around, everything came out quickly, the staff was amazing and I loved the atmosphere. We shared 3 items; the rigatoni, rabbit and ricotta dumplings, and crispy rice. The dumplings were good, the crispy rice was phenomenal and the rigatoni was possibly the best I've ever had. Also had dessert.

A delightful dinner experience

By Tina |

Arlo Grey is an amazing blend of midwest comfort food with a delightful Asian flair. The entire staff was excellent with anticipating our needs and explaining and recommending dishes. Darla our server recommended the sourdough starter and I’m so thankful they did! Originally that wasn’t on our list and that was one of my favorite dishes! The cocktails were extremely fun and the wine selection was wonderful and we cannot wait to visit again!

Reprehensible

By J L |

The food was terrible. The salad tasted like it was sourced from the weeds that grow next to the highway and the brisket had so much liquid smoke that I felt dizzy. You rarely have so much bad food in one spot, but they figured out how to do it. The place actually gets reasonable reviews, so I will no longer trust that.

Overpriced and very disappointing

By Kevin F |

I had the burger and fries for $22.00. The pickle slices were thicker than the patty. I wanted to ask "Where's the beef?". All I could taste was the thick bun. Would have been a rip-off at half the price.

I’d be very careful going to this restaurant it’s not worth it.

By Steven M |

The only thing good about this restaurant is the location and the look/ambience. Our food and plating was just average. I had the roasted Halibut for $27 the fish was cooked correctly but the plate didn’t wow me considering the restaurant is a Top Chef winner. My wife had the Crispy Rice $19 again no wow factor. Our son had a chicken plate for $34 he said he liked it. The problem we had was our server Bran, he was a nice person, but he over charge us $20 on our bottle of wine at dinner. They have a standard automatic 19% service charge, which I don’t like for any restaurants to do. I found the error the next day. At 5pm when the place opened, I called the restaurant directly. The hostess told me to take a photo of my receipt and email it to Gwenth Burgos in accounting. 3-days went by over a weekend nothing happened. I then found the restaurant didn’t open again till Wednesday, so I tried calling the hotel directly Monday. I got lost in their answering service loop getting no live person only voice mail ends. After a couple times of trying to get someone to help me, I finally got the front desk, they then said they didn’t have anyone named Gwenth Burgos in accounting. Frustrated and getting no-were, I ended the call. After 20-mins, I called again, using reservations to a live person who forward me again to the front desk. I got a new person and they helped me in finding Brett Anderson the FD Manager for the hotel and restaurant’s. Brett was very professional and did a great job helping me. Today, (5-days later) I found accounting did give me back a credit for the $20 wine cost over charge, plus TX sales tax, but they didn’t give me any credit for the added 19% service charge on the $20. So for a average meal/dinner with family our server (Bran) got a 22% tip. After 1-week, a couple emails and many calls. This is why I’m giving the restaurant a bad review. I’d be very careful going to this restaurant it’s not worth it.

Everything was perfect, including food.

By Chickadee2013 |

We generally don't eat at hotel restaurants but we loved this place. We sat at the bar and the bartenders were so friendly and helpful. We ordered delicious drinks and the food came out quickly and was delicious. I would recommend: AG GRILLED SOURDOUGH BREAD, CRISPY RICE (soooo good), and AG BURGER & SALAD.

Memorable New Years Eve Dinner

By jaimster916 |

Amazing New Years Eve dinner! Lobster with caviar in butter soup was sweet and perfectly poached. My husband was crazy for the buffalo shortrib ravilolo! They were stuffed with meat and topped with chanterelle mushroom. Main dinner was incredible with perfectly cooked duck topped with hazelnuts & probably the best silky smooth pomme purée that I have eaten. The cauliflower steak had a wonderful smoky flavor. Dessert was incredible also. The lemon curd was wonderfully tart offset by the sweet marscapone was a great finish to a very rich meal. Our server, Lewis, was attentive and personable. A few minor glitches: we waited for service at the bar for awhile and had to ask a bartender for cocktail menus while at least 3 others just walked by. The bar was not busy at that time at all. Would have preferred that the dinner starters (fish & ravilolo) were brought out separately before the main feast items as food got cold too quickly. Overall, thanks for making our NYE dinner a memorable one in Austin!

Top Chef restaurant

By carol a |

Beautiful restaurant in the line hotel. Spacious, nice lighting and tables. Small plates, good food choices for all tastes.

Simple Breakfast

By FabbTraveler |

Great breakfast, but on the lighter side. Neat ambiance and bar area. Service was very slow and absent-minded and only a handful of tables occupied.

Breakfast

By ingba |

Can’t believe an egg and bacon Biscuit without anything else is $12.50. No fruit or anything on the side. Definitely New York pricing. Was not that great and service was slow. Biscuit and egg was cold.

Nutcracker PreMeal

By Mike S |

Took the family (6) to dinner before the Nutcracker at the Long Center. Chef Kristen Kish has done a fantastic job working her magic into the entire menu. We had a variety of appetizers and plates to share along with a couple bottles of wine. Shared everything and it was a perfect blend of food. Every plate was fantastic and I recommend having multiple dishes to enjoy.

Phenomenal

By AllieSoni |

Everything about this place is spot on. The ambience is amazing down to the last detail including the bathroom which has Kristen Kish’s (Top Chef’s winner) story on the wall. We had the crispy rice and gnocchi as an appetizer, rib eye for main course and pecan short bread and vegan chocolate cake for dessert. I have no complaints, and wow the vegan chocolate cake is unbelievable. I highly recommend this restaurant!

Disappointing

By Ginger R |

If only the dishes had lived up to the lakeside setting and the exemplary service. But alas, none the six dishes we ordered for brunch was a clear keeper. We did enjoy the pickled shrimp salad with avocado, the chickpea fries and the butternut squash, just not enough to bring any one of the four of us back for more. The hamburger, which our server said was a favorite of other patrons, was adequate but not distinguished. The ricotta beignets with fruit jam were somewhat leaden, and the french toast with toasted quinoa was adequate. Like too many other restaurants with a view, that is the main attraction.

Bat-less But Happy Anyway

By MarshaK |

Bran, our wait help, was gracious and attentive, letting the two of us sit at our table for over 3 hours as we waited for the bats to make an appearance (they never did). We each nursed one of their specialty cocktails (Tea Thyme is delicious!) and shared the Baked Alaska for dessert (also delicious). Even though we weren't running up a large tab, Bran did not pressure us to give up the table and was so very, very nice and hospitable. We originally had reservations at the P6, the lounge above the Arlo Grey, but gave it up because the only tables they had available were outside in the 108 degree heat (!), because the entire inside was booked for a private party. In desperation, we went to Arlo Grey and explained to Bella, the hostess, that I was visiting and only had this night available to see the bats. She kindly assigned us one of their 2 tables with a "bat view." The wonderful service by Bran and Bella, the yummy drinks and dessert, and the pleasant ambiance of the restaurant just about erased my disappointment over not seeing the bats.

Amazing Food!

By Jebasisson |

Like a little bit of Boston in Austin. There's a trend, I guess, for small plates and it's come to Austin in the best of forms. The food here is unique and delicious. Very inventive and fun. As part of the Line Hotel, I'm sure I never would have found this place if I hadn't been staying at the hotel, but I will most definitely be back.

Lousy service

By Kimberly L |

This was the third time I’ve been to Arlo Grey. The first two times, the food was excellent but the service was snotty. This time, the food was average and the service was slow and absent minded. Three strikes and you’re out—so I’m out. I won’t go back again.

Awesome place, amazing food

By Abby D |

So look, obviously this place isn’t cheap. But you get a lot for the money. The atmosphere is crazy sexy, cool, and unique. If you ask when you make your reservation, they’ll get you an amazing table where you can see the bats fly away from the bridge. The staff KNOWS THEIR SH*T. And the food, omg, the food. It’s stupid good. Crazy good. SO GOOD. and this may sound weird, but check out the bathrooms. Just trust me. If you can, financially and otherwise, make sure you check this place out. You will not be disappointed!

Fresh, local foods with a flair

By marjoryrobertson |

I am visiting Austin for the first time and found this through Trip Advisor. It is a new spot run by a Top Chef finalist. Inventive dishes and drinks! Roasted carrot and corn appetizer is incredible. Drinks are not your usual fare and include a Waterfall with chateau, a liquor made from aloe Vera. Excellent views of some water (not sure what) and very friendly staff. A pleasure!

Great meal in a beautiful space.

By Donald N |

Service was impeccable. We shared several small plates for starters. The heirloom tomato salad and the sweet corn and carrots with smoked yogurt were just wonderful. The prawns and grits (using white grits) were terrific with a nice little kick from the chili butter. Dessert was called the Lunchbox Chocolate Cake that comes with potato chips and has a great story behind it. And it was delicious! Great bar, too. And an interesting interior design.

Fun & inventive menu!

By Deborah M |

Big KK fan and this place didn’t disappoint! Menu is split into 3 sections: garden, grains & pasta and protein. We were a party of 3 (with 1 vegetarian) and ordered the bucatini (ramp & basil pesto, sunflower seed, summer squash) and entire garden menu - grilled sourdough with crush green olives, hamachi crudo, salad, burrata, shishito peppers and oyster mushrooms. Everything was outstanding and didn’t miss meat at all. Even the cocktail list was great - fun & refreshing.

Still some service issues since restaurant is new (open one month)

By austintomtraveler |

We made reservations, and were seated promptly. Restaurant looked pretty full. Menus were given to us when we were seated. It took about ten minutes before anyone brought water, and another ten before drink order (and we said we were ready to order food so as not to have to wait any longer). It was at least 15 minutes after ordering before our appetizer arrived (a tasty Texas Tomato Salad). Then at least another 15 minutes before our herbed pasta, which we planned to share. There were only about two bites in the portion, but it was tasty. Our main dishes arrived about 20 minutes later...we were getting ready to ask when they would be delivered when they were brought to the table. We got "crispy chicken," which, in reality, was just a chicken strip with some truffle on it. Tasted okay, but it was a chicken strip. The other entree was the buffalo shortrib. The portion was small, but the meat was well-seasoned. The "whipped aligot potatoes" were displayed in a perfect circle on the plate, but were lukewarm. That was the first thing I noticed, and it negatively impacted the experience. But the shortrib was good. We finished our meal and waited another 15 minutes. During this interlude we were actually discussing going to get some "takeout," since the portions were not enough to fill us. But the server came over and apologized for the delays and said they were "slammed" that night. We got a couple of free desserts. One was a whole grain layer cake with ice cream. (meh) The other was a banana custard ice cream on baked meringue. YES! We are not drinkers, so did not have alcohol. Our appetizer, shared pasta, and two entrees totaled $80. (Our desserts and non-alcoholic drinks were comped because of the extreme service delay.) Altogether, we were there for two hours (8PM-10PM). A little longer than we had planned for dinner, but at least when we left, we were full! :-) So, small portions. Texas Tomato Salad good and citrus-y. Herbed pasta seemed to be flavorful, but portion was so small we really couldn't tell. Crispy chicken was nothing to write home about. Buffalo shortribs were good, if small. One of the desserts was enticingly good. Staff was open and apologetic at the end about the service delays. Restaurant has only been open about a month (we went July 3). So some "growing pains" are to be expected. I'm sure Top Chef Kristen Kish has done something new with some of the items on the menu. Ours weren't superlative, but the experience wasn't SO negative that we wouldn't consider going there again when the restaurant has ironed out its service issues.

Good food let down by depressing setting

By sweetiesPennsylvania |

We really wanted to like this place.Crispy rice and pasta appetizers really good. Burger just ok. Poor selection of wines by the glass but list adequate. The real downer here is the large dark space on the first floor of a hotel.Service was good but did not make up for setting.

Not filling food

By rboykins71 |

If you spend A LOT of money, then you will get full here. We were here for a business dinner and the food was not satisfactory. Everyone from out of town was like an $8 burrito is more filling from a food truck. This is not a place for a group. Service attitude was great, but slow to respond in a timely fashion. The food was not filling. The drinks were great. This is a shared place restaurant which I am not a fan with allergies and un clean people.

Very unusual tasty restaurant

By asudarshan3 |

The ambience of this hotel is a little younger than I would normally experience. Many of the patrons were €20-€30 years old. Nonetheless the restaurant space is very intriguing and atmospheric. The server was very knowledgeable and lead us to good dishes. There are many unusual pairings of texture and taste. Even though the plates looks small at the beginning ,we were well fulled with our food. The desserts were only three star. The main courses were fantastic and the chef is outstanding with a variety of different mushroom dishes

Awesome!

Absolutely everything about this place is awesome. We had two of the gardens one of the pastas and grains and one of the proteins with two of us and it was just perfect. I should’ve taken the picture before we cut it up but this is the chicken schnitzel.

High End Comfort Food, Excellent Service

Cliff Notes: There's a lot to like about Arlo Grey - my partner and I will FOR SURE be going back. So... if that's the highlight reel, why not five stars? Well, honestly, for me a five star restaurant is quite unforgettable. Arlo Grey missed by a hair this time around, but I suspect may make it next time around. I'll try and address some of the points in the other reviews as we go. First, the room. Lovely. People have complained about it being noisy, but it wasn't when we were there even though it was busy. So, noise level, especially compared to other Austin restaurants is fine. I like a quiet meal - this is buzzier than that, but it's fun, and I liked it. Food-wise, I thought the menu was interesting. It helps if you read a bit about the Chef's concept before you go, because it helps contextualize it. The wait-staff explained it to us in their own words, and suggested we order three things each (it's loosely coursed), and that this was how things were portioned out. We weren't hungry when we left :) and we followed their advice. I tried the Burrata, which was nice. Actually, the word I'm looking for is subtle. It was a very pretty plate, and tasted light in a good way. It was actually a good introduction to the Chef's palate, and a precursor of things to come. My dinner date had the carrots and corn, and they too were lovely, full of interesting textures - also something I think the kitchen enjoys playing with. For the next course, we tried the Gnocchi and crispy rice. The rice was texturally magnificent but could have had a little more pop (see comment above about introduction to the chef's taste!). Very good though, just not a "big flavor" and not everything has to be. The gnocchi were good, but a little soggy for me. There's a mid-point for gnocchi perfection and these were on the looser side. Good flavor. For the mains... crispy chicken (lovely) and the burger. My partner loved the burger, I was in the middle about it (I'm picky picky picky for what I expect from a "gourmet" take on a burger - I kind of think you can't improve on perfection!). It was good, it just didn't change my world. The crispy chicken, though, was clever, and cooked to perfection. I'd like to see the technique (maybe sous vide then fry very quickly?) because I want to replicate it. Top marks. Finally, we split a desert, which was really good. The cocktails were delicious, the views very nice, and the waitstaff tremendous. Really friendly, really seemed to know their trade, and really attentive. When you get great service, you realize just how important it is to the overall meal. Total price, $200 including tip, but we didn't drink much... comparable in costing to Barley Swine (which to me still beats it by a nose). Definitely will try it again, and a great addition to the Austin dining scene.

Great Austin Restaurant

We came here in January for our Anniversary and loved the food, will be going back. The tortellini and dessert were the highlights for us.

Service, Food and Fun

By RJillMaxwellAZ |

Brunch can be a funny meal period. Between eggs and cold cuts it’s often hard to say what works. Arlo Grey, in the recently renovated Radisson-now-Line Hotel, has it figured out. Crunchy but sumptuous, varied but traditional, from the first pitcher of water to the final thank you was light-hearted, professional, and yummy! Thank you for the dietary accommodations and lovely service.

What a bummer!

We were so excited to eat at Kristin’s restaurant. We are huge Top Chef fans and we were staying at The Line, so this was a perfect opportunity to dine there. Our plan was to eat breakfast there one morning and dinner one evening while we were in town. We came down for breakfast at 9:50am on Friday morning. We walked up to the hostess stand and we were coldly met by a short Asian woman in a dress who oozed attitude. Instead of a nice greeting, we got a cold, “can I help you”? We told her there would be just the two of us and she then sternly explained that they were changing over to brunch and that we couldn’t order food for 10 minutes. We asked if we could order coffee while we waited and she said we could. The place was mostly empty and she puts us at a non window table. Uh... really. This is a lakeside restaurant and we get an inside table. To be honest, this girl was so off-putting that we decided right there that we wouldn’t come back. Our waitress arrived immediately. The name on our ticket was Les. She was fun and friendly and never once mentioned the menu change over. She simply took our drink order and our breakfast order. We both commented that they should allow her to greet customers. Night and day difference in attitude. She did a wonderful job overall. The breakfast itself was totally pedestrian. No special touches at all. No fresh herbs, no fresh salsa, no fresh jam etc.. It was okay but completely forgettable. That sealed the deal for us. We were definitely skipping dinner at Arlo Grey. Kristin should probably spend more time at the restaurant. She should definitely make sure that a patrons first impression isn’t a cold hostess.

great breakfast, skip dinner

By Sangeev |

we stayed at The Line and had the opportunity to have both breakfast and dinner at this restaurant. Her breakfasts are well priced and very well done. Nothing fancy but good. Her dinner menu and food leaves much to be desired. For a tasting menu it is overpriced and downright terrible. My husband husband ordered the cod, priced at $25, it was small. The flavours were mediocre. He then ordered the fried steam buns- which were disgusting. Her attempt at deconstructing this was terrible. but the flavours were aweful. I ordered her rice cake with bacon and crab. It was tasty but the proportion of rice to bacon and crab was too high and she had long uncut pieces of coriander that made eating it awkward and laborious in the small bowl it was served in.

Super excited about their re-opening!!

By anita01080108 |

Super excited about the re-opening of Arlo Grey. We were only in town for a night and after thinking about it long and hard trying to decide going for dinner or brunch, I said to myself - why not both? The restaurant is beautiful, clean, and tables are properly socially distanced. We feel very safe for both meals. The staff were friendly and service was great. My favorite dishes from these 2 meals are - fried steamed buns, burrata, bowl of fries, avocado toast, and french toast. Their bread is just phenomenal! And no matter what you do, do not skip the fries! I eat a lot of fries and I honestly think they have one of the best. Looking forward to our next visit!

BRILLIANTLY-CRAFTED, DELICIOUS MENU

By Melimar T |

I don’t know why anyone would leave a poor review, this restaurant exceeds far beyond any other dining experience… The menu is designed so intelligently that the plates leave you astounded. Perfectly balanced, but also filling. It’s the next day and I’m still inspired! Would recommend to anyone. Great staff, brilliant menu, and one creative chef! I can’t wait to come back!

Fine dining with a view!

By Karin W |

As guests of The Line hotel, this was our in-house restaurant and first choice for breakfast. The food was exquisite - from the creamy oatmeal to gruyere omelette - but we found this too pricey to make it a daily option. On our final night at the hotel, we reserved a table for dinner and sundowners which happened to coincide with one of Kristen’s specials: two dishes plus sweets off the tasting menu and a glass of wine for $35, all to honour local produce and farmers. It has been a long time since we have experienced such exquisite food! The portions were enormous, despite being advised that these were ‘a bit on the small side’ and we could easily have shared two dishes between two of us. Having said that, each dish was superbly prepared and presented and perfectly paired with the wine. The beans and Parmesan dip was our favorite and has to be experienced - divine! Cannot daily Arlo Grey or Kristen’s menu and expertise in the kitchen - a Must Do when in Austin.

Valentine's Dinner

By Michael F |

Top Chef winner Kristen Kish has a winner here! The food was great, the service great, and the view of the river was great. The concept works well, small plates leading to larger plates, sharing with the table. My wife and I ordered 2 dishes from the appetizer section, Burrata and grilled acorn squash. Both were outstanding. Next was another 2 dishes, the crispy rice and Malfaldini. The server explained the Malfaldini was a homage to Chef's memories of hamburger helper growing up. It did succeed as good ol' fashion comfort food! Followed by another 2 courses, rabbit and dumplings and fried chicken for 2. Both were again outstanding. We ended with lemon mascarpone custard and lunch box chocolate cake. It was 2 1/2 hours of exploration, tasting flavors in combination with others. Devin was very attentive and informative, helping us navigate the menu and wine list. The whole staff was outstanding. We cannot wait to return, this time bringing others to share in the experience.

Delicious and creative... and what about those cocktails? Recommended!

By Mauricio O |

Typically a place to share; we ordered 7-8 plates for 3 adults. We asked for various things, mix of fish (delicious snapper), meats, crispy rice, but also vegetarian dishes (oh those beans!). All of it with some great cocktails!!

Allergies disregarded

By Florence M |

In spite of the server taking detailed notes on my allergies, we were served a dish which in the menu said it had a cream sauce with onions, but which actually contains shellfish. I had to use my epipen and take four Benadryl to stop the anaphylaxis I was experiencing. The waiter did not bring it to the manager’s attention and when we did on our way out, he instead made a lot of excuses and tried to place blame with me. Fortunately my guests heard me tell the waiter I had that allergy and another guest had ordered the same dish and as concerned about what she was tasting, as the sauce also had roe in it from a different fish which I also said I was allergic to (and which was also not listed on the menu’s description. There is nothing worse than not knowing if you are going to survive to see your children again when anaphylaxis starts, and it still makes me cry to even write this review. It wasn’t even the only food served to us with something I had listed as being allergic to. In hindsight, I probably have stopped eating at all when I saw something in the salad, but I simply trusted.

Incredible meal and attentive staff

By Francesca |

A party of 6 of us had dinner recently at Arlo Grey. Our table was magnificent, looking out over the "bat bridge". Our server Sophie explained everything thoroughly and advised us on the drinks and dishes, we couldn't have asked for better service! She was very attentive and checked on our every need. The manager Shane was also extremely attentive and checked in with us about our meal, I could not fault a thing! The food was excellent, our party was made up of 3 vegetarians, including myself, and it was hands-down the best vegetarian meal I have had in Austin in nearly 2 years of living here! There were plentiful options, things could be made vegetarian for us, we felt so lucky! All the food was delicious and well-seasoned, and the portions were decent. The cocktails were amazing. Overall, as I have said, this was the best meal I have had in Austin in 2 years in both food quality and service, the staff are a merit to this restaurant!

No

Too fast, too many orders like 4-5 items per person as suggested per waiter. What’s the hurry?? Restaurant half empty night we went. Not going back

Not for me

By Mike C |

We had the rib eye for 2 and it was not good. Too much fat, chewy, and just not enjoyable. Some of the apps were also sub par like the toasted bread and the salad. Unfortunately, our waitress spoke too fast, even after asking her to slow down multiple times. She also was not very friendly. Finally the music was not to my liking and too loud. I would not go back.

I always want to go to Arlo Grey.

By nowwhereisshe |

I really love this place and try to visit often. The last time I visited was for a business dinner. The restaurant is located at the start of downtown in a hotel on lady bird lake and is easy to get to, plus they have discounted valet when you dine. The staff is friendly, informative and passionate about what they do. Shout out to Bran! They always take care of me and make me feel like a Queen! The decor is hip and easy (even the bathrooms have an amazing art installation!) The food---- man, oh man the food. Whimsical, eye catching and layers of delicious. I don't like mushrooms and I am not a big fan of pasta. Yet their malfadini is hands down my favorite dish there! (Apparently, it's Kristen's signature dish!) Some of the menu slowly changes with the seasons so, every time you visit you can experience a little different. The bar will make you anything your heart desires and can create a drink you didn't even know you desired, plus their signature cocktails are simply the best. This place ruins it for alot of other restaurants around town because... I always want to go to Arlo Grey and I'll never pass up a chance to.

Arlo Grey is an Austin Gem!

By Angela L |

This restaurant features a three course tasting menu. Our server was very helpful and polite and our glasses were never empty. Chef Kish put together a wonderful menu and we found out that we loved food that we have never tried. There were three of us and we ordered 2-3 items from every tier of the menu. Nothing was disappointing, everything was flavorful and the ambience was delightful. A few of our favorites were the fried chicken, Texas strip steak, rigatoni and burrata. This restaurant is a must try while in Austin!

Good restaurant

Dinner for four. Kinda of like a tapas but not small plates or small servings. Either that or the waiter was trying to upsell us. Food was good, some more innovative than others.

Please pass the salt....

By Jen L |

I wanted to say I loved this resturant and if I had stopped after the first two courses I would have. This is a small plate restaurant. And we tried two of each course. Our favorite out of everything thing we ate was her pork gnocchi. It was so flavorful and it felt like an old family recipe. I loved it and if that stays on the menu I will go back! It was amazing. For the main dish we ordered the prawns and grits. First of all they were not prawns. They were small pieces of shrimp and the grits had no flavor to them. We also ordered the crispy chicken...can you say “pass the salt?” I hate asking waiters for salt and pepper especially at a Top Chef winners resturant (Tom & Padma would be so disappointed) but both main dishes needed it. They were terrible. The wine menu is not good either...and the coffee was bitter. We had great service and enjoyed our surroundings although it was loud. Oh I normally wouldn’t mention this but the bathrooms are ridiculous. You can’t find the door to leave them and while you are in there the Cinderella story being told in Korean. It is weird.

Excellent food and great service

By Steve B |

The food here is outstanding. Everything we had was delicious. Burratta was amazing. Every restaurant can give you burrata and it can taste good but this one has a date jam with it along with radicchio. Beef tartare was perfect. It’s the subtle spices and sauces that make it perfect. The rabbit and dumplings was delicious. Very light with an excellent broth. Shrimp linguine has a great spice that gave it a little kick. Drinks are a little pricey but food is so worth it. Go and you will not be disappointed.
