Best restaurant in the world

This is my favorite restaurant in the world. It is so lovely. I love everything about it. I hope you come. Jonny makes the best drinks. Gabi is the kindest person and such an incredible server.

Tasty Lunch

By DeeDeeJack |

While small, the lump crab cakes and truffle fries were delicious. My friend's Branzino dish was wonderful as well. Also the bread and olive oil I could eat all day! Our server, Amber, was pleasant and attentive. Overall great food and experience.

Fabulous Italian Food!

By Leslie P |

We had an absolutely delicious dinner here! The cocktails were original and potent, the food was outstanding, and the waitstaff was friendly, efficient and beyond considerate. (Shout out to Mickey!) They accommodated us showing up early for our reservation; we had walked from the nearby Museum of Science and Industry, not realizing that it would close at 4 and make our 5:15 reservation a long wait, and then had no problem with us enjoying a slow, lengthy meal as our wind down from a child-frenzied afternoon. And then, upon learning my birthday was the next day, brought a surprise birthday cake treat to the table. Alas, we were only on a short trip to Chicago because if I lived there I promise we would be regulars. It was simply a delightful experience and I cannot recommend highly enough!

Wonderful Experience

So our gang of 6 (3 couples) were finally able to all gather again, and given my past experiences at Ascione Bistro I thought it would be a nice spot for us to break bread together. I could not be happier with my selection, and A.B. simply hit a home run! Outstanding food and service. This is a wonderful restaurant that I highly recommend to all Chicagoans.

Great Service and Nice Covered Outside Eating

Even during a rain storm, the covering lent to a great dining experience. Full menu and bar. Plan return

Always Outstanding!

Ascione Bistro has rapidly become our favorite brunch spot. The service from Gabriella was OUTSTANDING! Today we tried something a bit different for us, but the food was delicious as always! My wife had the Eggs Benedict (Poached egg, toasted English muffin, hollandaise) with short-ribs — a great value at $16.00. I had The Egg Xperience (Two Eggs scrambled, rosemary potatoes, and nueske's bacon for $12.00.

Excellent food, subpar service on Fathers Day

By Eric S |

The food was Excellent, the service was not, our waitress brought the wrong food I ordered and when I corrected her she sort of forced us to accept a side we simply did not order. After splitting the check between two people, the entire charge showed up on just one card , life goes on, I just had high expectations after the great reviews.

Worth it but don’t dine alone

By hotelfussbudger |

I have eaten here in large group meals, which are prepared as well as any individual meal I’ve ever eaten. The surface was excellent. The bill explained precisely and everything went according to plan the fish and the brussels sprouts are exceptionally good. I’ve also had takeout from hearing number of times and unlike most restaurants were takeout is substandard at this one it is excellent, on the other hand, there is a single woman diner, and another occasion I was treated with abject rudeness and distain much better to go with friends or as a couple

Excellent food and service

Ascione Bistro is the perfect choice for those seeking a quality meal near the University of Chicago. José and his team were super attentive and explained in detail the dishes that were not on the menu. The food, extremely tasty, soon arrived. Equally delicious desserts. Prices quite considerable given the quality of the dishes and the environment.

Did NOT live up to the reviews. At all.

Nice atmosphere, excellent service but. It got very noisy as the restaurant and bar filled. Hard to hear. The food was very mediocre. The house-made pasta was flavor-less, the seafood was tough. The short ribs were fine and the chocolate mousse was good. The calamari was under-fried so it was mooshy. The tomato salad was very good and the olives within it were tasty.

Lovely lunch… almost

By Kellie K |

Lovely food and drinks. The only problem was that lobster was served two tables over and it was so foul smelling. It was definitely not fresh. Had we not been leaving already, the smell of that lobster would have caused us to leave.

A Delicious new spot in Hyde Park.

By Jil R |

When my friend mentioned we were eating at Ascension, I was very suspect. I’ve eaten at this location as various number of restaurants operating under various other names. I hoped this Italian restaurant makes it! It’s a kind of Italian-fusion. I had a wild boar pasta dish that was mouth watering! The desserts and ambience is hip and the euro-house music helps to set the tone. The drinks are tasty and the bartender puts new spins on old favorites. I’ll definitely go there again. Here’s some pics of the meal.

Excellent food, friendly service despite it being very busy

By prutchi |

Obviously a very popular spot close to University of Chicago. It was very busy, yet staff were very friendly. Food took a while to arrive because it’s all prepared fresh ( we were sitting at the bar in full view of the kitchen). It was definitely worth the wait since the food was absolutely delicious. Highly recommended!

Food and service worth flying from the West Coast

By Dan_Yucaipa_CA |

When we fly into Midway, my wife and I make the 25 minutes drive to Hyde Park for a wonderful meal. I had the special ravioli of the day that featured mushrooms and truffles. Wow! That was amazing! The staff took great care of us including finding a way to park the sleeping 7 month-old baby next to her mom. Wonderful desserts, too. We shall return the next time we’re passing through!

Great Italian Restaurant in these Covid-19 Times

By Bill G |

Took my client from University of Chicago here with my colleagues for a business dinner. Excellent Service, Drinks and Food! They have a well set-up outside covered outside dining area. We were able to make reservations for the outside area. Very prompt seating at our 6:30 p.m. time. Jose was our waiter and was very nice and knowledgeable. We had three appetizers of beef tartare, mussels, large shrimp special - all excellent We then had the Veal Chop Special, the Gnocchi of the day, the Ribeye steak special and pasta with seafood. Everyone enjoyed their meals. Definitely worth going back again.

One AWESOME Meal!

So we returned to Ascione today for brunch with my best friend and his wonderful wife, and once again Bistro Ascione did not disappoint! Let me start by saying that Milan is an outstanding waiter, and I highly recommend that you request his service, and tip him generously. Perfectly attentive without being intrusive. The Eggs Benedict with short ribs is such a unique and eclectic offering that I was not at all surprised that my buddy’s wife absolutely loved it—“this is delicious” she exclaimed on her first bite. A virtually completely clean plate confirmed it—LOL. I stayed with the twin crab cakes and was joined in that endeavor by my dear friend, who confirmed it was delectable by also handing the waiter a completely bare plate! My bride again ordered the Mediterranean salad with salmon—clean plate too. Common theme: we ate it all because it was so good. We all had dessert: 2 Crème Brûlées (Crema Brucuata on the menu with Madagascar vanilla bean, caramelized sugar. seasonal berries, citrus madeleine), an Apple Tart with salted caramel ice cream, and one exceedingly unique Tiramisu —“Tiramisu in Tazza”— Ladyfingers dipped in espresso liqueur, with mascarpone cream. Top it off with coffee and Baileys Irish Cream Liqueur (“Creamy latte coffee and dark chocolate flavors with a touch of nuttiness”) and you have one AWESOME meal!!!!!

Enthusiastically recommend the food at Ascione!

Absolutely delicious meals! I had a vegetarian gnocci with tomato-based sauce, and my date had a beef dish. We enjoyed chocolate mousse for dessert. The service was good and the atmosphere was quite pleasant.

Delicious & relaxing brunch

By Evan Kosinski |

I went in for Saturday brunch around 11. Greeted with smiles as soon as I walked in, I chose to sit at the bar. Very attentive and friendly. Ordered the steak & eggs, came out quickly and looked amazing. Steak cooked perfectly medium-rare, eggs done perfectly as well and I'm very picky about my eggs. First time coming here for brunch and definitely coming back as much as I can.

neighborhood Italian gem

First time that we have dined at Ascione and we look forward to come back. The duck and special seafood pasta were outstanding. The brussel sprouts were well seasoned and the wine list was reasonably priced and had a good variety.

Excellent Brunch in Hyde Park

By NancyD90210 |

I'm thrilled to have discovered this well located bistro (right near the new Trader Joe's), as it offers a fabulous brunch option, with comfortable casual seating, and good service. My husband and I enjoyed the Il Omlette, with eggs scrambled with bacon and topped with delicious burrata cheese (they accommodated my request for egg whites), and accompanied by little squares of potatoes and a lovely mixed salad (--the marinated onions in the salad were amazing!) and cherry tomatoes. My daughter enjoyed her Bistro Breakfast sandwich, and we all shared a plate of freshly cut fruit topped with some blueberries. We enjoyed the brunch so much that we plan to return for dinner next time we are in Chicago. I highly recommend this restaurant if you are in Hyde Park as with food this fresh and tasty, there is no reason to make the 25 minute trek into the center of Chicago.

A Must!!

By kcWI |

We are frequent visitors to the Chicago area and often find ourselves in the Hyde Park area. Whatever brings you to Chicago, visit or resident, get yourself to Ascione! Having eaten all over the city, I can say the service and the meal we had here is second to none in this price point. The food was fabulous! Fresh, well thought out, and perfect portion sizes. Unique choices that aren't run of the mill. Excellent all around. Don' miss this one. It was packed for a reason and I know I will definitely return!

Fresh pasta

By L H |

House-made pasta raises their game, though some dishes are a little heavy on the sauce. The vodka gnocchi is excellent. Prices mostly reasonable. Decent desserts & cappuccino. Ambiance needs work. Very nice staff.

WONDERFUL and OUTSTANDINGLY DELICIOUS!

By FhayzeB |

Ascione Bistro Is located in the heart of Hyde Park is an outstanding Italian restaurant! I am a huge fan of Petite Folie (a wonderful French restaurant located right next door) but they don’t open until 5pm and we wanted Sunday Brunch. Our daughter strongly suggested Ascione Bistro! What a great dining establishment which I UNEQUIVOCALLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND! This was our first time at this establishment but it definitely will not be our last. First was a tremendous value: UNLIMITED MIMOSAS. They delivered a full bottle of Les Allies, Blanc de Blanc Brut, France $18 (Bottle $54 and the unlimited for two $36 great deal) Choice of Orange | Grapefruit | Pomegranate I ordered the oysters on the half shell served with a truly unique balsamic tasting malt vinegar a 1/2 dozen for $18. They were fresh and delicious. My wife ordered a Mediterranean Salad - Arugula, cherry tomatoes, kalamata olives, red onions, cucumbers, and added salmon for an incredibly reasonable $17. I ordered the duel jumbo lump crab cakes served with baby arugala, tomato, garlic, onion jam, lemon butter aioli for $43 (1 crab cake for 22). Our plates were COMPLETELY clean because those dishes were WONDERFUL and OUTSTANDINGLY DELICIOUS! We closed with the Crema Brucuata (their Créme Brûlée)—Madagascar vanilla bean, caramelized sugar. seasonal berries, and citrus madeleine for $9, and Baileys Irish Cream Liqueur Dessert—Creamy latte coffee and dark chocolate flavors with a touch of nuttiness $11. Our waiter Milan was an excellent customer-centered server; attentive but not overbearing, and menu knowledgeable. Thank you. This is an incredible dining experience which I highly recommend

A great find in Hyde Park!

I met a friend for dinner in Hyde Park, and he chose Ascione Bistro. It was a great choice! I really enjoyed the experience and would absolutely return. The restaurant has a large, covered outdoor patio; it was the perfect place to sit on a mild summer evening. Service was superb throughout the meal--attentive, knowledgeable, etc., and the meal was paced exactly right. Great cocktails--hard to choose which one; they felt seasonal and fresh. The spritz was perfectly balanced and really refreshing. Very nice menu with a nice variety of options, ranging from healthy to more indulgent. Salads, sandwiches, entrees, etc. The tomato salad we had to start was absolutely delicious; the tomatoes were garden fresh and the dressing was herbaceous. My friend really enjoyed his pasta dish, and my fish entree was perfectly cooked. Would happily return.
