Popped in to this restaurant after a recommendation from my aunt. Very happy with the food and service! Glad that we went!

Our favorite Indian restaurant in San Francisco!

By Scott G |

We eat here once a month and it's always superb! Our favorite dishes are the chicken Tikka Masala, chicken Korma, the Dal and the veggie Biryani. And the service is always wonderful!! Family owned and run and super nice people.

Good Indian in Mission

By MegEll71 |

Ate there with 2 teenagers and 2 adults. We all ordered different entrees. Very good service, friendly. Sample appetizer lacking in every way, Naan was great. Chicken korma good, lamb tandoori had harsh strange flavor. Chicken jefrusi (?) was very good. Portions small to medium size. Credit card machine was down that night.

My absolute favorite restaurants is San Francisco.

Delicious Indian Food

By vipul61 |

Seldom I repeat seldom, I have found Indian food to be even of 'good' level when tried out of India ! It was pleasant surprise to find in SF such a high quality and yummy Indian food. All the items which we ordered, both veg and non-veg were not only cooked extremely well but also tasted very fine. It's one Indian restaurant out of India which I would like to visit again.

I like it there!

EXCELLENT Indian Restaurant

By LAHLH |

This was some of the best Indian Food I have had. The atmosphere was pleasant and the staff very friendly and helpful. Tried another Indian restaurant in San Francisco a few days before, and it did not compare to this. Prices very reasonable. For 3 adults we ordered one appetizer, 2 entrees, rice and Naan.

great food, amazing service

By treasurepv |

the food was delicious, and because they forgot to bring one appetizer the owner kept insisting on giving us more food for free! And everything was scrumptuous. I was really, really impressed with the owner's concern with making the experience as positive as possible. Oh, and ask for the Coconut Dal Soup -- not (yet) on the menu, but to die for!

Super food, service and friendliness

By HudsonDV |

This is our second time at Aslams. We all can’t say enough about the quality of the food, the friendliness of the staff and the service. What’s good? Everything!!! Aslam prepares his food with love. Assad gave us a warm welcome and cane over several times to see how things were doing. Ayesha was very helpful too. We will definitely be back and back.

Yum!

Booked online based on recent reviews and not disappointed. Delicious food, good service and nice atmosphere.

Fav Spot killer tandoori chicken

By QueenVSAK |

Love this place go often. Lovely family owns it, fantastic food, nice ambiance. The onion kulcha and garlic naan oh yum, vindaloo sauce is fabulous. Hight recommend Aslam Rasoi's. Go!

great food and great ambiance

By MikeHSFO |

We enjoy this restaurant a great deal -- it's one of our favorites. With friends, family or business colleagues, it's a great choice. Aslam and his son Asif are creative chefs and we find their version of Indian food to be tasty, great value and fun too. We look forward to every visit we have.

Good Indian food

By uncvcutraveller |

I had lamb, mutter paneer, chicken curry, salad, and naan for dinner. The meats were very moist and tender and not that salty. It had some spices.

Delicious and modern

By SLC17 |

The food here is done well. The service is excellent. Indoor seating feels like you're in the great room of a home with a fireplace. A great place for couples or groups, casual or business dining. Eating outside can be fun, too, as shoppers walk by. I'd recommend the bread basket, seekh kabobs, any version of vindaloo and biryani with raita. Bring northern Indian food lovers or newbies- the food is excellent!

Best Indian Food in SF

By SanFranciscotoLDM |

We go to Aslam's Rasoi (Aslam's kitchen) regularly and it is a favorite of my 8 year old's. She loves Indian food especially his chicken samosas, when they're offered (not on the regular menu though). They're made with ground chicken and spices, perhaps a tad too spicy for most kids, in crisp and light samosa wrappers. His Chicken Tikka Masala (get it mild for kids and medium for adults) is another of her favorites. The grownups like both as well, along with the many vegetarian options on Aslam's menu, and the delicious naan. It's a family owned and run restaurant in SF's trendy Mission District. There's an affordable city garage around the corner on 21st St. which is handy since it can be challenging to park in the Mission. Or just take BART and walk a few blocks. It's not a kid restaurant, and is actually a beautifully decorated and upscale place. But they love and welcome kids and my kid is comfortable there. Sit in the front window area to watch lively Valencia street!

Wonderful all around!

By RacheAnne |

This place was very nicely decorated and had a good atmosphere. The staff was very knowledgeable and friendly and accommodating. (We had theatre tickets and wanted to make sure we got out in time. They were very good to make sure we were running on schedule.) Most importantly the food was excellent! Delicious, well-prepared and served quickly. I thought it was well priced too. We enjoyed our dinner very much and would love to make a return visit.

Christmas dinner

By Amit V |

We were visiting SFO and looking for a place for Christmas dinner. We were in for a treat, the service and the food was superb. We sampled the chicken tikkas, fish pakoras, spicy korma and rounded off with pistachio saffron kulfis. Some of the best Indian food we have had in ages. Highly recommended.

The lamp chops are heavenly, and everything else delights!

Very average Indian food

By SoMuchToSeeAndDo |

We went here based on other reviews, and I have to say I disagree with the majority who really liked this place. The atmosphere was nice, but the food was--if anything--sub-par Indian food. The chicken tikka masala was thin and runny--not the rich, creamy dish I expected, and the bengan bartha was rather bland. I've been to India and eaten the real deal, so the dishes seemed watered down and Americanized. The food was surprisingly expensive considering the quality--and they even charge separately for the rice. In a city with so many good food choices, you can certainly do better somewhere else.

A Top Indian Restaurant in SF

By John H H |

High energy, clean and open atmosphere with some of the best Indian food I've ever had. Friendly and efficient service made dinner here a real pleasure. Five if us shared chicken tandoori, chicken tiki masala, tandoori chicken, lamp, fish and shrimp ( combination tandoori) and chicken vindaloo with naan and rice. We did not leave anything on the plates. This place was packed with people waiting. I consider this my new favorite restaurant in the Valencia St. Corridor!

Best Indian Place in SF... maybe the world...

By lll-T-R-A-V-E-L-lll |

I've been coming here for about three years and have loved it from the start. Last year I went to India and Aslam's remains my favorite Indian restaurant anywhere! I my favorite entrees are the Rogan Josh and Chicken Madras, but you really can't go wrong. The staff are super friendly and the service is always spot on.

Fantastic Indian food, who knew.

By David S |

We live in the Mission and have been walking past this place for years. But then one day we saw it on Check Please and just happened to wander in that night. The owner was incredibly gracious, for some reason, two of the staff called in sick that night, so the service was a bit slow, but I'd imagine this isn't the usual situation. Fortunately, we were not disappointed to have a nice leisurely romantic meal and linger as our food made it's way from the kitchen. This is not the typical Indian fare, but fine dining. The flavors are phenomenal and they'll make it whatever level of spiciness you like. I think it'd be wasted on small children, but for youngsters that can appreciate fine food, it's fantastic.

friendly staff, amazing food

By R R |

The staff was incredibly friendly and the food was amazing. However, being Indian food, it was quite spicy - even the mild. I got the Bengan Bartha, "freshly roasted eggplant sautéed with chopped onion, garlic, ginger, and spices." It was actually like a puree that I ate on naan - not what I was expecting, but still delicious. We ended dinner with a Mango Lassi, a "refreshing mango and yogurt drink." This too was incredible. Even though we came in almost at closing, we didn't feel rushed at all. Once again, everyone was very genuinely nice. It's also just a few blocks from a BART station so it's easy to get to. The prices were also great for being in the city, at a sit-down restaurant. My dish was $10 and my boyfriend's was $14.

amazing food and wonderful family restaurant!

By TrippingTrudy |

We love Aslam's Rasoi and have been coming here for many years - almost once a week now since it's one of our favorite restaurants in the city. And frankly, on a street with many other Indian restaurant choices, it's absolutely our favorite. The food is amazing - always fresh and cooked to perfection. I'm still exploring the menu because I have so many favorites. But I love the lamb dishes...but really everything is good. I've been there with just one other person (most commonly) and with large groups (several occasions) and either way, the food has consistently been amazing. We've gotten take-out for large parties in our home. There's just so many options on their menu and they're all delicious. The levels of spiciness are appropriate - they can go hot if that's what you want but the mild will still be very flavorful. The naan is always hot and fresh and delicious. Don't forget to get some pickles! This is a family-owned restaurant and they are very kind and sweet folks. So I hope they continue to stay in business for many years to come!

Great authentic food...

By DrSharonGreenfieldMA |

Northern Indian food; easy on the spices. We had an excellent late evening dinner. Good prices, easy to talk to dinner companions. There's a lot of competition in the MIssion for your dining time and money - this is worth it.

Mixed reviews

By 86jess86 |

The food was okay, nothing that would make me want to go back though. The curries were okay but slightly watery and needed thickening up. The korma was quite bland as were the rogan josh and madras. The onion and garlic naan breads were delicious but not enough for a second visit. The rotis were slightly hard and needed to be softer as they were quite chewy. Prices seemed expensive for what it was.

Difficult to rate this! Noise spoiled our evening.

By mrandmrs111 |

The food was tasty, the service fine. Our evening was spoiled by the excessively noisy environment....we were actually unable to communicate within our group of four, so loud was the noise. (And we don't have hearing problems normally). Staff did move us to a table a little further away from the source of the main noise...a group of diners, but still, we couldn't hear one another. A real shame, since this could have been a lovely evening. It wasn't!

Best Indian food in the...

By Vipur A |

Best Indian food in the city. Hands down. Beats Indian Oven, Gaylords, Clay Oven, etc. Dishes were great (try the bhindi with ginger, naan was really good), and prices are comparable to other indian restaurants. Definitely going back.

The Lamb Korma is simply delicious!

By cxjsparks |

I first went to Aslam's with the people in my dinner club a few years ago. I always like to try something different when I go to a new restaurant, and since I eat lamb only rarely, I decided that was the way to go. In looking over the different types of sauses, I chose the korma because I was in the mood for a creamy sauce. This sauce is yogurt based with crushed cashews, and slivers of almond sprinkled over the dish. I was hooked with my first bite. I was the only one to order a lamb dish, or a korma dish, and the table wound up ordering a side bowl of the sauce alone, because it was so delicious. In fact, the host of that particular event got in touch with me later to confirm what dish it was I had eaten. He was going again with friends and wanted to order the same. I have been back several times, once by myself, once with my cousin, and three times to get food to go. Of course it's not quite as good eating it off of a plate at home, knowing I am going to have to wash the dishes myself, but even take-out is pretty gosh-darned delicious. (I know, I said I like to try new things when I go to restaurants, and I swear next time I go, I'll either change the sauce or the protein. Probably the protein.) I should mention that the naan is wonderful, too. I usually get the garlic and basil, but have had the goat cheese as well. They are quite delicious, and good for eating plain or dipping into the meal. I don't see it on their online menu, so I'm not sure if they change the dessert menu around or not. When I had dessert the one time I ate there by myself I had the pistachio ice cream. I never knew I liked pistachio ice cream! It was served in pieces, like they rolled it into a log-shape and then cut in up. It was a pretty presentation, and was a lovely way to finish my meal. Enjoy!

Great food, great atmosphere, great service!

By ward920 |

We are Scots, living in Indiana and always on the search for good Indian food. This is it if you are in San Francisco. Set in the Mission district, now a funky place to be, it's on a main strip. We arrived around 6pm and the place was hopping with a very large, loud party sitting in the middle of the restaurant. Asif was our server and was terrific. He ensured we were well taken care of and popped back regularly to check all was ok. Our food took a little longer as they were dealing with the large party but we were in no hurry and were happy to enjoy the atmosphere. We had a mixed appetizer starter. Our meals consisted of two chicken kormas, one tikka masala and one chicken pakora and everything was delicious. More rice came without asking and we left the restaurant stuffed and satisfied. Well worth the trip if you want great Indian food.

A Brit who loves Indian cuisine , loved it

By cavedodger |

As a Brit travelling in the area I just had to enjoy some Indian cuisine and this place ticked all the boxes. Nice at atmosphere, friendly & quick service and an absolutely delicious meal with enough left over for a take out bag. Would have liked to try more dishes as everything looked and tasted great.

I seriously thought this was the best...

By Dave N |

...Indian food I'd ever had...we asked the waiter to recommend the choices we made and I ended up with two dishes, butter chicken and a vindaloo, which complemented each other perfectly, odd as that might sound...really enjoyed my experience and would definitely visit again...

Excellent food and great service

By Arjanne A |

It has been long since I had such great Indian food. Almost perfect. The chicken, the spices, the naan, it was all very, very good. Service is also great and quick.

Tasty food, but.....

By sandsprite |

Several people had recommended Aslam' s, so we went with high expectations. The food was tasty but portions were on the skimpy side. Service was slow. We asked for glasses of water, our only beverages, but water was never brought to us, despite our asking four times. Table was against the wall - not a problem- until they bussed the table just as we were trying to leave, preventing us from going, when they could easily have waited a minute to let us out. We might try again to see if it was an off night, or perhaps not. There are so many other restaurant options in the neighborhood.

A Decent Neighborhood Indian

By chaspower |

More like 3.5, but a little bit ordinary. Tandoori chicken was v. good. Lamb Vindaloo had the heat but not the meat. Long menu. Chicken Madras was all sauce—tasty but short on chicken. Eggplant pakoras were short on eggplant and short on flavor. With tax and tip, the meal came to almost $50 per person. Pleasant reception and service. Would go back if in the neighborhood but would not make a special trip.

good food average service

By Akshat N |

Food is really good but the service can be very slow on busy nights. Sometimes they do not even care if you have made a reservation via apps like yelp or opentable so better call

Chicken Korma, YUM!

By Robyn07 |

Met As-if in the Mission district at his restaurant, Aslam's Rasoi. We were recommended this little gem via our hotel and it was a great evening. There were 6 of us and everything we ate was delicious but I must say that we the Chicken Korma was incredible. As-If refers to it as his favorite Crack Sauce- as it is so addicting. The eggplant was our other favorite followed with the Chicken Tikka Masala. He then recommended that we have this ice-cream dish and I wish I remembered the name but it was delicious. It had ginger and other spices and came out looking like a sushi roll - awesome! Highly recommended!

Great food, great service

By Ido D |

The waitress was attentive and knowledgeable, and helped us to choose the dishes. Great food, washed down happily with lassie and Indian beer.

Great one!

By Maxwashere |

I have been there with my friends for dinner....wow! First of all thanks to the boss son for letting us have a very pleasant stay!!!! I enjoyed the location, the service, the meals. Something i can say about the seat were i was, not so comfortable... but it's just a very minor aspect. Go here and get yourself satisfied with chicken spiced in many different manners, have also lamb and other dishes typical of the pakistan and indian cuisine. Don't miss for any reason in the world the superb ice cream at final. And also don't miss the sympathy of the staff. Enjoy your meal!

Best takeout!

By Pnina H |

We looked for something to eat after 10 pm , which was a challenge... Found this one and was so surprised! We love indian food and we tried several things, all were perfect! Highly recommended.

Food and Service Top Notch

By Marla B |

I hadn't been here in several years and I have to say, my last visit was off the hook FABULOUS. It is one of my all time favorite Indian restaurants. I couldn't be happier they survived the pandemic. Loud shout out to our server, Sonia who could not have been sweeter. I felt right at home under her care. She was attentive and answered all our questions and truly knew the menu and it's contents. I also felt the prices were in line with the quality and quantity as well as presentation. Their menu is quite extensive, best to go with a friend or friends so you can try all the amazing items. We started with the Garlic and Basil Naan and Samosa. Both piping hot and delicious. Side sauces for the Samosa and Naan did not disappoint. Entrees were Chicken Korma and Tandoori Chicken and a side of rice, all so delicious, the meals left us speechless. I thought I might end up with some leftovers, but no way could I not finish, they were both so good. Total bill was $65.18, well worth it and be sure and leave a "Generous" tip, so to keep this restaurant alive and thriving. I will be back and hope to see you there !

Wonderful Indian food

By nityaji |

Aslam's is my son's favorite Indian restaurant in San Francisco. Located a few blocks from where my son lives, Aslam's is in the heart of the Mission District. I've eaten there many times, and often make two visits there when I'm in San Francisco. There is a large vegetarian selection to choose from, and we have yet to find an entree we didn't like. My nephew recently had his first Indian food at Aslam's, which was chicken tikka masala. He loved it. The prices are good, the staff is friendly and the service is quick and efficient. Deliciously spiced, but not too spicy.

Excellent Service

By Flowerbloss |

We just had a great meal for Thanksgiving at this restaurant. The food was very good, spicy and plentiful, The waiters and waitresses could not do enough to make sure our visit was an excellent one. We even had a free dessert of home made rice pudding which was excellent. We shared entrees of various dishes ranging from hot to very hot and they did not disappoint. We would definitely eat here again

one of the best hidden secret northern Indian Restaurants in the city

By MikeHSFO |

We've been to this restaurant many times and always enjoy the food, the staff and the atmosphere. Recently, we had a party with 20 people here and the event couldn't have been better. The staff was attentive, the food excellent (including catering to several vegan guests) and the pace quite relaxed. The total price was incredibly reasonable, especially for such a large group. We strongly recommend this restaurant and will return many times again.

Very disappointing

By cathyrita |

We visited based on reviews but found the restaurant disappointing with dirty glasses and food average with small portions only saving grace was the good draft ales

Awesome Indian Food and Fantastic Service

By Rogers D |

We loved this restaurant, which the same family has been operating for nearly 40 years. The quality of the food was exceptional. I have been to many Indian restaurants in the U.S. and London and Aslam's Rasoi is my all-time favorite. They were incredibly warm and friendly, and they made us feel part of their family. I have never written a restaurant review, but Aslam's was so good, I wanted to encourage everyone to experience it.

Good food in a hip area

By Henchelson |

The restaurant had a relaxed atmosphere and is set in a hip district of San Fransisco. The food was good quality and reasonably priced. I would say it was in the American style rather than the English but very tasty.

Delicious

By lauraheartmark |

I visited Aslams while on honeymoon last summer following recommendations on tripadvisor and wasn't disappointed, the food is very fresh and plentiful, the staff are very helpful and friendly. I would recommend that you book as luckily we did, the place was very busy with locals which is always a good reflection of a restaurant!

Best Indian food

By HappyEv333 |

The Indian food was yummy, especially the goat cheese stuffed naan which we got as an experiment :) We also got Alu Gobi, Banghan Barda, Chicken Tikka Masala, and vegetable corma. They all were delicious. The mango lassi was also very good. If you like Indian food go here.

Great food, freezing room, indifferent service

By Ben G |

The food is excellent but overall service was disappointing. We made reservation for 4 and not only did we wait for 20 minutes to be seated but there were several 2 person tables next to each other that were ready. Manager told me he was holding them for pairs who might walk in. Also the front door is open a crack which makes for freezing experience. Too bad because the food is delish. Chicken tikka was very tender. Saag daal very creamy. Naan fluffy.

Great first.

By Franktidwater |

First time eating Indian. Enjoyed. Ate family style with 3 others. Appetizers disappointing. But entrees very good.

Nice selection for all

By tsam1 |

We enjoyed Aslam's Rasoi. Flavorful chutney and tamarind sauce for our papadums and samosas, tasty veg pakora. We tried 4 dishes - veggie and chicken and all were delicious.

Try Aslam's Rasoi!

By DGavi |

Great Indian- Done by a self taught master chef. I started eating Aslam's food over twenty years ago and have yet to find better North Indian cuisine anywhere in the USA.

Just wow

By CACatgrrrl |

OK, Asif suggested the Tandoori chicken. I was thinking to order something more adventurous, but somehow it sounded really good. And it was. It was the best I've ever had - moist and flavorful. I got a bonus serving of what was billed as "sauce" but it seems to be saag paneer without the paneer. It was out of this world tasty. Service was with a smile and everyone down to the busboys seemed proud to be serving such fantastic food. Go!

The Best Indian Restaurant in San Francisco

By Sean B |

While living in San Francisco for four years, I haven't eaten at an Indian restaurant that compares to Aslam's. Amazing food, fantastic staff, and ideal location. I'd eaten here a few dozen times while living in SF, and never once had a sub-par experience. That's a nod to their consistency as a whole. I miss it!

Wonderful service with good food

By Tracy and John R |

We went on a Sat night but managed to get a table without wait. We ordered 2 appetizers, 2 entrees, 2 different nans, rice, and 2 drinks. The bill came to $64 so price is reasonable. Skip the Bombay (fried calamari) appetizer since the batter is soggy and not crunchy. Must order chicken tikka masala as the chicken is so tender. We would return the next time we crave Indian food.

First attempt at an Indian restaurant in San francisco

By Allergyissues |

The restaurant made every effort to cater for my food issues and as a result I had a mild chicken korma without onion or garlic involved. Service was good .

It lives up to it's reviews

By Jessica M |

First of all, the ambiance of this place is great. When you walk in, even if it is busy you are welcomed by an amazing staff! My husband and I read the reviews on here about people RAVING about the food especially the "Crack sauce". We decided to see what this place was all about especially after a LONG day. We made the commute over from out hotel which wasn't much of a hassle, and I do NOT regret it. We got to meet the restaurant operator (Asif) who was serving us and bartending and he was the NICEST most knowledgeable person I have ever met when it comes to describing the menu and what pairs nicely with each other, as well as service wise. We decided to order a chicken and lamb dish (specifically the Chicken Korma and Rasoi's Rogan Josh) as well as goat cheese naan with garlic and basil naan (which were also spectacular). The "crack sauce" on the chicken REALLY DOES live up to its name! In the entirety of this experience, it was AMAZING and we are returning next weekend to eat here again. You will not regret coming here!!!!

Average Indian dining

By simcha |

Dinner was only average. High prices for unmemorable food. Very pleasant serving staff and attractive decor.
