Public Market Happy Hour at Athenian's

By builderofall |

Athenian is very busy place durning happy hour in the season . but very nice , "Quaint" place to get a bite to eat . Oysters every where elce was $4.00, Athenian $2.00, fish and chips $6.00 and beer $5.00, But coke was $4.00. touris and locals eat here. The Public Market is a tourist heaven and the prices show it. Golden cherries 2lbs- $15.00 out side of center city golden cherries $3.00 lbs. but a fun place and the views are great.Sunny days in Seattles are fabulous.

Quick lunch with a BEAUTIFUL view

By Krs H |

I LOVED the view from our table! It was BEAUTIFUL! To look at the water, the piers, the mountains, and trees while drinking coffee and eating was just relaxing. The host and waiter was great! The booth is small for 4, but you just squeeze. I had the chowder, my boyfriend had the salmon, and my kids had sandwiches and salad. It was all very good. Next time we'll come for dinner!

Amazing place

By David B |

Food was awesome. The atmosphere was amazing all of the tables were waterview. Would definitely recommend this restaurant.

Great food and view

By Kalen Z |

Amazing food (table got goats cheese and artichoke appetizer. I got the linguini, alfredo, mussels and clams.), friendly service.

Nice waterfront seafood spot

By WCR12 |

Delicious, great views and reasonable prices. We got the seafood chowder, seafood bowl and halibut special- they were really good- atmosphere is casual

Great food and views!

By Mark P |

If go to Pikes Market which you will, this place is located inside on top floor. Great views of Puget Sound and all the meals ordered by our family were great!

Great Brunch

By Annie143Florida |

We thoroughly enjoyed our brunch. We all had the scrambled eggs with the smoked salmon and local cheese. The server was helpful and we enjoyed the waterfront view. We will return when back in Seattle.

It's OK, but really nothing more.

By JayCl |

Listen - the view is nice, for sure. The beers are good - broad selection. Service is good. The whole place is good - a little worn perhaps, but that's part of the whole 'Sleepless in...' vibe they're trading on. Charmingly shabby. But you come to a restaurant mainly for the food. And here at the Athenian, the food is solidly..... AVERAGE. It's fried hard, the portions are just modest. They do appear to rely on a competent food service supplier however. No complaints then, but no accolades either. Authenticity? Well, if anything was locally-caught and prepared in house, our Server couldn't point to it - we asked. And so, on reflection, the 'happy hour' (with baskets of chips and such and beers reduced a buck or two) would be my choice: same stuff, same deep fryer, same view. But I'd suggest not spending dinner money here, if there is a "next time".

Disappointed

By Dema B |

We stopped here for dinner. I have been eyeing this restaurant for years and I was so excited to finally eat here. Our view would have been a perfect sunset (if not for the foggy evening)! We were seated quickly and our waiter showed up promptly to check if we wanted anything other than water to start. After looking over the menu we decided on a egg scramble for my husband and the prawns in spicy garlic cream sauce for me. I also ordered a cup of chowder to come with my prawns. The chowder was very creamy and was chock full of clams; Yum. I could quickly tell from my husband's face that the eggs were disappointing. The chicken sausage was listed as spicy and he said it was bland. Also the dish seemed to made from one egg and thinly scrambled. It was poorly presented and he could not say enough how bland this meal was. When I tasted my spicy, garlic cream it was full on turmeric. I could not taste any other spice or garlic. I had so looked forward to this dish and soaking up the sauce with the bread and I had to knock off as much sauce from the prawns as possible to eat them. I love curry and spicy foods but this was over the edge turmeric. The waitress brought our food and did not stop by until time to see if we were ready for our check. Another server stopped by frequently to refill our water glasses but no one ever asked how our meal was or if we were satisfied. For a mainstay of Pike Place Market I was expecting a bit more. Sadly I will not return to the Athenian.

On Vacation

By LongabergerLady |

This was our last day in Seattle. This did not disappoint. My husband had the New England clam chowder and he said it was the best clam chowder he has ever had. He has eaten a lot of clam chowder. We shared the Dungeness crab, it was magnificent. I want to come back here again.

Awesome food , drink , service

By Robert M |

Awesome food , drink , service , and view - very good chowder, bloody mary, and eggs benedict to stqrt the day! Great overall service and view a reasonable prices

Excellent Chowder, OK salad

By ActionJaxson |

The clam chowder was excellent. I should have just ordered a bowl of it and I would have been happy. The citrus salad was disappointing. The dressing and nuts were good, but there was no citrus on it, only apples. No veggies other than lettuce. I would return but avoid the salad.

Excellent brunch

By Joe G |

This is a nice restaurant for brunch. If you can get a window view overlooking the Puget Sound, then it will add to the enjoyment. Large brunch menu, the biscuits and gravy were excellent.

Tradition in Seattle

By Joyce1927 |

We love to find places that have local tradition and local folks frequenting the establishment. Our dinner was fantastic! We began with Clam Chowder that was just about the best I've ever had! My husband and I shared a Sea Food plate with salmon, cod, shrimp, calamari, with frys and coleslaw. Their tarter sauce dressing was a homemade blend and absolutely loved it! The fish was delicious! My son also had chowder and my daughter in law had fish and chips! She also loved her meal. The atmosphere was great, our waitress was fantastic!

Great views!

By TXMARTINS |

Beautiful views from the second level looking out onto the water as the ferries come in:) Great local food and cocktails with items for anyone in your party. Service slower in the time of COVID as expected but still a good in and out. Family friendly in the heart of the market.

Good ambience and food

By Overcome888 |

Great place to get seafood at a reasonable price in classic Pike Place settings, with a great view across the harbor

Best seafood in the area

By Honest reviewer |

After eating at several “seafood” restaurants in the area we found this place. By far the best seafood restaurant we have found in the area. Good price, great food, and friendly staff

History of the Athenian

By jillandres71gmail |

We always visit the Athenian Inn EVERY trip to Seattle! the history of the restaurant and the view always brings us back! The bagels and lox are Always a wonderful order, lots of salmon. My son & I recently ordered the seafood platter, it was great for a lunch time entree. The view is always spectacular, never do we tire of watching the ferries arrive and depart. Great place year round!

Great views and seafood

By buffalogirl1961 |

Excellent food and atmosphere. Situated in Pike Place Market and known for scenes from Sleepless in Seattle, The Athenian is a terrific seafood restaurant with great views of the waterfront. I ordered the Seafood Sauté and it was excellent. Our server, even though the restaurant was busy, was very attentive and made sure we had what we needed.

Poor service

By expertflyer |

Poor service. There were few people at breakfast , and the ladies standing at the bar were just chatting to each other when they could have provided better service by checking on the tables and serving faster.

Family visit

By Andreas M |

Our first time a the Athenian. Our food was delicious, friendly wait staff, good view of the harbor and waterfront, fast service. We enjoyed our visit.

drinks and appetizers after flying all day

By Ron T |

6 of us stopped in for drinks and appetizers after flying from the East Coast. Had the carnitas tacos, chipotle beef sliders, mozzarella sticks, and oysters, plus drinks. Danny was a great server.

Not very good.

By Bill_Texas931 |

Expensive but bland food. Grouchy hostess. Main course came too soon after appetizers. I hate to give negative reviews but this was just a bad experience.

Pretty view though unkind waiters

By mtcantuh |

Good view , good service and good prices, although if I should say that more large tables are missing I only saw one in the driveway for 6 people most of them are two people The ones that have good views attached to the window are two , and they seat 3 people in those although it is not as comfortable since they are small bench seats Waiters though quick are a bit say “not kind” But the food is good, the fish tacos and the fish and chips recommended Although I missed saying that the mind of the waiters we asked to add a taco more and said you can't or is half an order more you couldn't But in short the view is worth it and more that was the restaurant where they recorded scenes of sleepless in Seattle

Worth queuing for!

By Linda H |

The two of us waited over 15 minutes for a table, but it is seemingly easier to find seats for 6 or more customers. However, well worth the wait and fascinating to watch the young man handling the influx of would-be diners with ease and professionalism. We had a good view of the harbour from our table and the halibut was the best I have ever tasted, the chef is to be congratulated. There is a plaque showing where Tom Hanks sat when filming Sleepless in Seattle!! all in all a great touristy experience.

Mediocre food. Good view

By Jashade |

Mediocre food. Would not eat here again. Staff was friendly and the restaurant was not crowded…probably because the food wasn’t that great.

Good Breakfast

By CharlietheBlueJay |

We have quite often have had breakfast here over the years and it has always been good & reasonable. They have though change their menu and made it smaller which is understandable because you can only offer so much. The views are fabulous, booths small and service excellent.

We stopped in here for lunch

By mvan231 |

We stopped in here for lunch the last day of our time in Seattle for a friend's wedding and loved the atmosphere we found. Our group found a great spot to sit all 10 of us in the upper level all the way down on the left. We had two tables but they were near enough for us to still talk with each other and not cause a lot of noise. The staff were very nice throughout our visit. We did have an issue with the clam chowder bread bowls that were ordered by a few of the members in our group, coming out cold, but the waiter took care of it no problem and hot soup was served shortly after. I had the seafood bowl and was amazed by how delicious it was. I'd definitely order it again if I was given the chance to. Another member of our group (the recently married groom) ordered some amazing shrimp dish that was listed on the menu and was very satisfied. I'd recommend stopping in here if you get the chance. It's a great spot to grab food when visiting the market

Overall Excellent Experience

By Lisa S |

We had the Alaskan king crab legs and seafood tacos and both were amazing! Wonderful wait staff and great view of the water. One of our most memorable meals in Seattle!

Lovely seafood dinner

By Sherralyn30 |

First time. And a Sleepless in Seattle devotee, so a must visit. Was wonderful. Plentiful, fresh seafood and warm and friendly service. Recommend the chowder and seafood bowl. Huge portions. Will return.

Great Lunch!

By Anna L |

Stopped in for lunch while touring the market. Had a great table view, staff was friendly and welcoming and the food was wonderful. So much on my plate I had to take it with me back to the hotel!

Pike Place Lunch

By DrNBA |

When we first arrived, it took about 7 minutes for someone to greet us and when we were finally recognized, it was by the chef. We feel that it was due to the staffing issues at that time. When we finally got seated, the serer was very attentive and nice. The food was really fresh! The clam chowder was nice and creamy. The shrimp, fish and chips were very fresh as well. Nice view of the waterfront as well. Overall good experience.

Good experience.

By Mary T |

The seafood was great. My husband said it was so much better than what we get at home in Florida. Our server was knowledgeable and helpful in how to plan our visit. Nice view of the water, as well. Price was fair.

And iconic Seattle experience.

By Tom M |

It is worthy of a 4 rating. After spending some time wondering and weaving through the crowded Pike Place Market, the Athenian is a welcome stop. 90% of the seating has a window and view overlooking the Seattle waterfront. Our order was everything one should expect in a New England style clam chowder. Five generations of my family have enjoyed food and views at the Athenian. Treat yourself to an iconic Market experience.

Great fish and chips!

By Eric P |

Yes it’s touristy, yes it’s a bit pricey (but not that bad considering), but come on, for the freshest fish and a view overlooking the harbor, what could be better? My son and I were in town checking out some graduate school options and since he had never been to Seattle, a stop at the Pike Place Fish market was a must. Athenian is located just up the pier. The wait staff was friendly to us Easterners and gladly made menu recommendations. We each got fish and chips, one salmon and one halibut. Both were excellent! The chips could have been a bit crisper, but since we smothered them in malt vinegar anyway, no big deal. The bar offerings are solid with a good local draft selection. All in all, when your down at Pike Street and it’s lunch time, Athenian is a good old time place to get your fresh fish on!

Bland Food - Great View

By donaldrthomas13 |

The booth was extremely tight for 4 people. And the shrimp cocktail was composed of the smallest micro-shrimp I’ve ever seen. The fried red-fish burger was TASTELESS. The other two of our 4 party group had the tuna salad and the Turkey sandwich. Both were non-events when it comes to flavor. So BLANDA was the word for the day. But the view was wonderful so most of the 3of5 stars goes to the view.

Tasty!!!!!

By nazarenevow |

The wonderful sound and taste of Seattle can not be made if you don't visit Pike Place market . After a quick glance at the menu, Athenian Seafood seems like the perfect spot to eat. Due to halibut being in season, a halibut sandwich had to be made. Service was great and our waitress Zhanna, hit with her suggestions . Thanks. Order-table was fairly quick even with high ordering/plating traffic happening in the kitchen. Food looked and seemed fresh and did it hit the spot. The portion size of the sandwich is small bit tasteful and cooked correctly so no complaints there. Cant wait to get back. Recommend when in Seattle.

Great view, good food and excellent service

By Drag0nmum |

We all loved our meals. Servings are generous and the New England Clam Chowder Bread Bowl is a great fix for a cold wintery day. The Jambalaya was tasty and the chilli stuffed with crab meat was excellent.

Great food and service

By jarox |

We had the best meal we had in 3 days in Seattle. Pasta, Fish n chips and Salmon Burger. All were great, the beer was cold and prices were very reasonable. Service was excellent. We really enjoyed everything

Fantastic View and Great Food

By Vegas-Queen666 |

This was our first visit to Seattle and we were hungry and in Pike Place. We stumbled upon Athenian and were pleased we did! The staff were lovely, sat us down with a fantastic view. The food hands down was the best we had in Seattle and the cocktails were delicious. The whole experience was reasonably priced, especially as Seattle is a very expensive place for food and drink. Before leaving we discovered the added bonus of the Sleepless in Seattle connection, bonus!

Loved it, excellent menu.

By Car Fi |

Amazing selection of plates and options. There were so many options which made difficult to pick one. We loved the place, nice old school decoration, felt very authentic. Alaskan cod fish and chips super recommended. We loved the service and the view. A place to come back.

Very tasty

By Karen K |

Though so very crowded, the service was friendly and efficient. The food was well prepared and tasty. Conveniently located in Pike Place Market near the main entrance.

Staycation

By CTB |

Since it is summer vacation from school, my wife and I decided to have a “tourist“ day in Seattle. We live in Bellevue, and rarely come downtown other than for sporting events. After walking in Seattle waterfront and going through the market, my teenage boys were getting hungry. I thought it would be worthwhile to eat at the Athenian. I didn’t expect anything special from the kitchen, but I did expect tourist level pricing. The simple fact is we had a grand time, sitting upstairs with a large table by the window. Two of my boys had hamburgers, which they thought were very good. My oldest son, who is 18, had a bowl of mussels. Candidly, I can’t remember what my wife ate. I actually didn’t eat here at all, because I had him business dinner right afterwards, but I would have if my schedule permitted. Candidly, we are happy we went. Yes I heckuva lot more price than what we might get for similar food at a non-touristy destination. But the view was great, the service was good, the food was decent, and all in all, we are glad we went.

Great Clam Chowder

By mshbnyehud |

I went for a very quick lunch, sat at the "bar" and ordered a bowl of clam chowder on a busy tourist laden day. The chowder was wonderful and filling. Loved the many small chunks of clam swimming in an excellent white cream soup base. Service was very good, although it took awhile for a server to recognize that I wasn't part of the party sitting next to me. No worries.

Great lunch at the Market

By Jenni F |

My son and I stopped in for lunch on a Saturday at about 1; the heighth of a busy time at The Market. We were told we would have about a five minute wait and that was all we waitied. We sat on the 2nd level at a window table with a great view of the waterfront and the sound; gorgeous. My son had a side cesear salad that was crsip and perfectly dressed and delicious. He also had the sourdough bowl of clam chowder which he rated as one of the best he'd had and he is a chowder aficionado. I had two blackened cod tacos with coleslaw...Delicious! Our waitress was kind and professional and the greeter at the door was too. We will definitley go back and bring the rest of the family...You should go too!

Delicious experience

By Shaelah B |

Amazing experience. The food was delicious and the service was amazing. The atmosphere is really cool- we sat upstairs over looking the harbour. This definitely added to our Seattle experience

Quite a wonderful array of Seafood on a bed of very fresh greens. I didn’t expect such a generous portion of fish.

By BrooklynDodgers13 |

It was a pleasure to eat in such a beautiful place. Our salads overflowed with fresh fish. We were surprised at the generous portions.

Nice Family Dinner in Seattle

By Michael W |

Our family spent four days in Seattle and had a wonderful time. We had spent time in Pike Place Market and it was crowded and touristy during the day. Our reservation was at 6:30 on a Monday night and the market was pretty empty. We wanted to have our last meal in Seattle to be a memorable one. The Athenian was the place to be and the service and food were very good. I wanted the family to enjoy seafood and have a view of the harbor. Athenian's claim to fame is the movie, Sleepless in Seattle which adds to the restaurant's charm. Our family is one of ten and we were seated at two tables with great views. The Athenian will be a place to remember in Seattle.

Great seafood

By Ginny1964 |

Really enjoyed this restaurant. Visiting for girls weekend and we were looking for good seafood. The oysters were awesome. Out party also has the smoked salmon app (delish), the seasonal special sea scallops were yummy and the best dish ordered was the crab fettuccine. The most fun was Michael our waiter. Thanks for a great visit!

Better than next door

By Rosgriffin |

We had lunch here the day before we ate at the next door place Lowell's. Over the course of a couple of days, it doesn't seem to be as busy as next door I don't quite understand this because it's a much better place. We had lunch there, and the food preparation was excellent, and we had great table service from our server. The drinks are also pretty good and the price was reasonable. The only problem is they seem to have the same drill to get a table. When you walk in, there are young people who have no desire for good customer service. They just can't seem to be organized and get it together to get you a table. Even though they weren't as busy as next door it still took 30 minutes to get a table but at least here the wait was worth it. I had salmon that was perfectly cooked and they have a Manhattan That's one of the best ones I've ever had. I would recommend it understanding that it's again basically a fried food Burger place though I highly recommend the shaman.

Nice view

By Suz1884 |

This restaurant is smack in the middle of Pikes Place Market = very touristy. The window seats are wonderful since the view is so amazing. The food was OK. Tasty, quickly served.

Lovely Food and Ambiance

By Kevin J |

Some friends had recommended Athenium to us for dinner. The place was heaving and had a great 'feel'. After a short wait, we were seated by the window. I had the sauteed seafood which was a great choice. It was really tasty. The fresh calamari were also brilliant.

Alaska Cruise

By KAnsel3 |

Stopped in before and after our NCL Alaska cruise. Great food, super friendly staff, local beers, TOP NOTCH Bloody Mary's, incredible view of Seattle Harbor while dining. Nothing but enjoyment to be had here. If you don't enjoy yourself, it's probably your fault.

Lunch and Crab!

By Kelle |

Atmosphere and view is awesome. Good and service was fast! No wait for great table. Food was hot and fresh and perfect! Great for two people to hang :)

Seafood at Pike Place Market Spot

By hoopscoach-dmar |

We were walking through the Pike Place Market. We enjoyed watching the guys tossing the fish around (Who hasn’t seem a clip of these guys having a blast?) and checking out all the other spots of almost any kind of food you can imagine, but we were really hungry after a 6 hour flight and a light rail We stopped at the Athenian Seafood Restaurant. It was crowded so we decided to sit at a small area which was like a bar, but not really a bar. My wife had veggie pasta with Pesto sauce over linguine. It was very good. I had the NW salmon. It was marked “market price,” but i was surprised at the cost, especially considering the abundance of salmon at the nearby fish markets. Oh well, it was good anyway. Great atmosphere close to the piers where the cruise shops depart from. Lots of hustle and bustle. A very busy spot. It has some local flavor. Recommended.

Everyone cleared their plate!

By Margaret A |

Party of 6 kids and adults visiting from WI. Food was delicious. View fantastic and staff accommodating. I had fresh grilled salmon and it was easily the best I ever had. Even the kids loved their food.

Still a great watering hole with excellent seafood

By travellingexpat_12 |

Excellent seafood. Still retains the old classic feel from decades ago while catering nicely to all the visiting tourists. Crab was excellent, good beer and a serious pull of Jameson to finish it all off at the bar. Bartender was excellent with food and drinks.

Most delicious seafood bowl!

By LeeTes |

It was a busy Saturday afternoon with wait times of 20-25 minutes but it was worth it for the Athenian Seafood Bowl. Although brimming with big chunks of salmon, cod, large whole shrimp, scallops, clams and mussels, it was the flavor of the seafood broth that was just heavenly! Perfectly flavored and reminiscent of my childhood. A perfect dish for a cool rainy day. The squid rings were a bit chewy but the broth more than made up for it. Hubby had the deep fried seafood platter but felt there were too many fries in proportion to the fish.

Excellent seafood and delicious king crab!!

By Hortman55 |

This restaurant is in the Pike Fishermen Market. They were very quick to sit us upstairs near a window with an excellent view of the water. Our waiter was very thoroughly and quick especially with all 8 of us. He brought us all waters and took our drink order and gave us time to view the menu. The King Crab (though pricey at $125) was absolutely delicious with warm drawn butter, fresh vegetable and your choice of potato. The salmon was very fresh and excellently cooked. Those who had sandwiches were happy. The calamari and shrimp appetizers were very large. An excellent restaurant and we highly recommended it.

Pike Place Market seafood restaurant delight

By Michael M |

Went to lunch here and enjoyed the prawn and scallop saute dish. Beautiful view of the sound too and the ferris wheel. This is a great place in Pike Place Market.

Enjoyed the Halibut

By John S |

We came across the Athenian while checking out Pike Place Market on our first evening in Seattle. It was getting toward closing time but staff made us welcome. I enjoyed the halibut with berries (I think it was special for the day) - the fish melted in my mouth. My wife decided to test the all day breakfast with eggs Benedict at 8.30pm!! We enjoyed the evening views and were well looked after.

Wonderful waterfront breakfast dining experiencxe

By frequent_NJ_diner |

Our group of 7 went here for breakfast and had a terrific experience. Their specialty pancakes are super-delicious! Home fries very unique special touch of the chef. Service was excellent, a really cute atmosphere, lots of historical decorations, photos. Walk slowly to and from your table so you can enjoy all the old pix, etc. Prices very reasonable considering waterfront location. Wish we had more time in Seattle so we could try them for dinner but we had to leave for our cruise.

Family visit

By Linda B |

We had out of town company and they wanted to go to Pike Market. We had never eaten at the Athenian. We had multiple dietary requirements. (Vegan vegetarian, chicken eaters.). The menu accommodated everyone. We were a party of 6 plus a high chair. We were able to be seated at a table by the window. Our food was delicious. We received it quickly. Our waiter was very attentive.

Stopped for lunch

By AMA5874 |

Wanted to come to this restaurant to get the "Sleepless in Seattle" experience. I stopped in for lunch. The food was good but not great in my opinion, for the price you pay. I had the fish and chips. I will say the wait staff was really great so that is the plus. I sat at the counter but there is plenty of other seating in the restaurant. I would say come for lunch cause it seemed not to be too long of a wait and you can enjoy the scenery from the windows.

Great food and great location

By Nichole V |

We went for lunch and the food was amazing and the restaurant was in a great location in The Public Market. I had the scallop and shrimp pasta and it was amazing! The seafood was fresh and the dish came out. The person I went with ordered the Red Snapper fish and chips and she said it was very good. It was a great atmosphere and I’d highly recommend!

Good food, not great

By Sandra R |

Noisy and crowded but has good service. Don’t order clam chowder unless you like it extremely thick and starchy. My dinner of mussels and clams in a vegetable and sausage broth was terrific. My husbands cheeseburger and fries were good ok. Bun was boring as was bread accompanying my meal.

Delicious meal with a view!

By Bailey C |

I bring all my visiting friends and family to Athenian. It’s not horribly expensive for a seafood place, and it’s so good. Most of the tables are overlooking the sound and the Olympic mountain range, so you get beautiful views while you eat. It’s annoying to go through the madness of the market to get there, but it’s well worth it and worth the wait you will find on the weekends at lunch time. Also, a scene from Sleepless in Seattle was filmed at the bar. They have a plaque so you can take a photo sitting in Tom Hanks’ seat. Do yourself a favor and go earlier for breakfast/brunch and order the Dungeness crab eggs benedict.

Good food right in the market

By Getbusyliving |

This restaurant is located right in the middle of the pike market. Food is very good and fresh. It’s not incredible but it’s very good. We sat at the counter and the service was quick and very friendly. The ceviche was very good and the clam chowder was ok. One of us had the king crab legs which were outstanding but were very expensive. We would certainly come back.

Awesome spot for for happy hour!

By Elizabeth R |

When in town in time for happy hour, this is a great location. There are a lot of $5 beers on tap and the house wine was a great deal. The app. menu was great, the salmon kabobs were to die for!

View is the best part

By nicolebcali408 |

We passed a long line at the restaurant next door, and we figured out why. We arrived straight off the plane, and it was great because the host offered to store our luggage. We were sold. Then we were sat upstairs by the window with a wonderful view. Server was great and everyone that worked there was fun. We split the breakfast burrito. Sun dried tomato tortilla, egg, chorizo, cheese, grilled peppers. It was an egg philly cheese steak with chorizo. It was soggy and was eaten with a fork and knife. Mimosa wasy around $7 which was reasonable. We wished we waited for the lunch menu.

Delicious!

By ShellyE41 |

We really enjoyed this restaurant. We were a party of 6 and ate upstairs in the back, so it was nice from a noise perspective too. We all had something different - crab to steak. It was so good! We would stop here again. AND it’s in Pike Market by a flower stand.

Stay away

By Brenda T |

Very disappointed. Do yourself a favour and eat somewhere else. We came for fish and chips. The halibut was $24.95 whilst the cod was $15.95. There was no difference in the taste - however the cod portion we received was 2 small fish sticks (like the kind you get frozen from Captain Highliner) I've had better fish and chips at an English Pub. Service was lacking. The server took our order, delivered our order. Didn't check in on us or refill our drinks until we were done our meal. Also had unexpected entertainment of another server telling his co-worker how a customer had complained about him because of the poor service. There's definitely a vibe of get em in and get em out and if anyone complains it's because customers are being difficult, not the staff.

Bad service and dried out halibut

By LRLNDN |

I made small talk with the server and she was very pleasant. But the couple seated AFTER us was served first in every area – drinks, appetizers, entrees. We waited 30 minutes for our food to arrive. Mine was cold. Not warm, cold! Halibut filet with veggies. I asked for a side salad instead of a "starch" she said OK, we will up-charge you. And the salad never came. I asked the her about it and she said, "Did I give your salad away?" Indeed she did. To the couple seated after us. I told her my meal was cold and her response was, "Is it?" I said I could tell it had been sitting out. Paid full price for a cold, dried out halibut filet. And my husband tipped her the usual percentage. The experience was infuriating.

Fishy Brekkie

By Jermaine J |

Early snowy morning, we visited pike place market and stopped here for breakfast. Wasn’t disappointed, service was good, started with Guinness, then for breakfast i had the omelette with salmon, prawns, cod, hash browns and an english muffin. My partner had the fried mixed seafood with hashbrowns. Food was excellent, we went back the next day also.

It never disappoint me

By PhilLV808 |

Every time I visited Seattle, I always stop by at Athenian and have their Seafoods Bowl. The staffs are very attentive and service are fast. The best of all their food are very consistent.

Great service & view of the water

By Cathy B |

My husband and I were still a bit hungry after finishing our food tour, so we headed here to avoid the crowds in Pike Place and enjoy the view. We were quickly seated and the service was fast and very friendly. We split a order of beer battered fish and chips. It was very tasty, but the pieces were smaller than we anticipated for the price we paid. That being said, the friendliness of the staff, and the view of the water made for a nice lunch.

Great location, food is average

By Lovetotravel11177777 |

Right at Pike's Place Market with seating over looking the water. That's the bonus! Bartender wasn't very friendly, food was average and prices were high. But they have all the tourists as a captive audience. I wouldn't go back.

When Harry and Sally met Seafood

By kriss4travel |

Marveling at Pikes Place and the people watching can really work up an appetite. Sally suggested this place being a seafoodie. It was fantastic for a quick bite. The view was a bonus (the sign at the front says to be patient, every seat has a great view). Pick an off time, we had to wait 20 min. In the tiny entry w limited seating. But it was worth it. The Fish and chips are the standard of this I'll. The fish sammich was even more amazing. The tartar sauce has a hint of dill, but even dill hating Sally loved it. Did I mention Tom Hanks shot a scene here in Harry met Sally? Another something we pondered as Sally watched the ships go by while contemplating her seafood bliss (food baby in my case). Gotta visit at least once!!!

A late breakfast at 1.25pm

After a big flight from Australia we eventually made it to Seattle. Over slept today and woke at Seattle noon. We walked to Pike Market hungry and found the Athenian Restaurant. Lovely food and friendly staff. Pricing pretty good and a great view of the port. Well worth a visit.

Large Group Lunch

By Jmekins08 |

My colleagues and I made our way over here at the recommendation of James from the info desk :) This is the restaurant from Sleepless in Seattle! The food was good- try the baked goat cheese, crab cakes, salmon or fishwich. Our waiter, Michael, was Excellent!

Great Vibe

By Clare46408 |

This is a fun place in the Pike Street Market where you have great booths overlooking the water. We had a 30 minute wait but it went quickly as they have standing room in the bar area and a wide variety of beers and other cocktails or wine. We were seated on the second floor so had great views. Our waiter was terrific; sadly I don’t know his name - I only know that he was from New Hampshire. I had the cod fish and chips. While everything was very good, I wouldn’t say it was GREAT. The coating on the fish is rather unique and has some flavor that I’m not that keen on. All in all, however, I would say that the prices are reasonable, the vibe is great, and the food is good.

Very good seafood lunch or dinner. My partner and I choose this location by chance but I want to return and try another dish. We both had really good local seafood platters and the service was very good. Something for all palates Enjoy

Awesome Seafood @Athenian in Seattle

By Denis D |

We had visited Seattle in May for a short break and were looking forward to having some good seafood. We happened to visit Pike Street Market and we saw Athenian. We visited the restaurant twice during our stay in Seattle and they didn't disappoint us. The food was just amazing. We tried their Fried Seafood platter, Salmon fry, Prawns, Dungeness Crab and Mussels. My daughter just loved the Mussels and the crab it was cooked to perfection and was served with bread and rice. All the catch is fresh and it tastes awesome. If you are looking to have some good seafood then Athenian is the place to be in Seattle.

Lovely meal and great view

By kazlynp |

I stopped in here for dinner and was very happy with the experience. I was seated at a window booth/table with a great water view and my server was very friendly and helpful. I had salmon with cilantro pesto, which was delicious. Would definitely eat here again.

Great Pub Food

By Kathy C |

Our first stop in Pikes Street Market. They were BUSY! We sat at the bar and the service was excellent. One must try their Clam chowder. Also thought their ceviche was quite good. Prices reasonable considering we were in Pikes Market

Really great spot for lunch on the water

By Becky |

I absolutely LOVE The Athenian! This place is a Seattle institution! I've eaten here multiple times with family and friends. It's a bit pricey but worth it! I always get a frosty mug of beer and fresh raw oysters! The fish and chips is good too. This place is really old and has a lot of history. They have these cute little booths you can sit in near the bar with a lovely view! The staff is friendly too.

Alaskan King Crab is amazing!!

By Michelle A |

We came in here because our cruise was delayed due to high winds. David made our disappointing day so much better! He was kind and attentive. The food - oh my goodness - amazing! We had the Alaskan King Crab - yum yum get you sum!

Lunch with a scenic view!

By LindaTours |

Located in Pike Market this restaurant has great waterfront views. Service was very excellent! We had the fish and chips plus blackened salmon tacos. They were excellent. Also fun to see where they filmed a scene from Sleepless in Seattle.

Best eeny meeny miny moe selection we could have made!

By 816shawnam |

Pandemic has made dining in a limited and selective option. However, this restaurant was a surprise, in all the best ways possible. We drove from San Francisco to Seattle, and Athenian Restaurant in Pikes Market Place served the best grilled salmon and cod sandwich we had...period!

Lunch

By Michael E |

Saw this restaurant on the Seattle Combo Tour and decided to come back and have lunch. Great idea. Wonderful food with friendly and efficient service. Highly recommended.

Ok place to eat

By Rob M |

Decent place to eat at Pike market. The halibut was coming in fresh. But the halibut sandwich was a little bit needing more halibut. The fried shrimp were amazing. Big juicy and plenty of them

Entrees were amazing

By Pstrtj |

We had a large group but did not have a difficult time being seated or served. The menu had a decent variety of options. But, the food was amazing! Both of mine and my husbands appetizers were good. He had shrimp cocktail and I had raw oysters. Those were average. Our entrees were amazing. This is not a cheaper place to eat.

Sleepless in Seattle restaurant

By Judee |

Did you know this is where a Sleepless in Seattle scene was filmed? And you can get yummy food with a beautiful view of Seattle harbor. They close early so make sure you arrive in time. Salads are loaded with goodies and all the fresh fish and mashed potatoes are excellent. Check this place out.

Great clams!

By Bookslut |

I’m a fan of steamed clams and eat them everywhere I can. The Athenian is one of the best, I generally eat the broth like soup! Sitting by the window on either the first or second floor has great views. Service is excellent. If I have a quibble it’s with the bread. In a town with so many great bread options, the read is the sourdough equivalent of wonder bread. The baguette isn’t much better. No crust. This seems to be standard, and the clams make up for it. My husband had the jambalaya. Loaded with seafood! He was happy!

We Always vist when in Seattle!

By jillandres71gmail |

I love the incredible vibe here.. the history is so rich! It defines the public market to be sure, the food is so what Seattle is about! Lox and bagels to die for! Watching the ferries dock and depart is so wonderful any time of the year. The service is always great and I have enjoyed all of the food I have experienced. My son and I recently split the Captains or seafood platter on a visit in July it was more than ample for two. Sleepless in Seattle is part of the rich history with Athenian appearing in the flick. Lois, one of the earlier owners actually gave me a water pitcher from my first date and first time @ the Ahtenian, I will treasure it and the memory always!

Just for the Halibut!

By Sallyann G |

Service was fantastic. Didn’t feel rushed at all! Food was superb! Halibut was so tender! Steamer and mussels app was delicious! Go there— u won’t be sorry!

Underrated

By MTTravelers1 |

Somewhat mixed reviews, but we decided to come anyway as we were in the market and knew the view would be great. Ended up being a great casual restaurant, including a waiter that was super helpful and nice. Had clam chowder to start, and shared with my spouse the fish and chips and the cod sandwich, along with some wine. Exactly what we were looking for first night in Seattle. Would definitely recommend if you are looking for great food and trying to avoid a chain restaurant.

Nice lunch with a view at Athenian Seafood Restaurant and Bar!

By gepper |

The Athenian Seafood Restaurant was a great place to have lunch in Seattle. It is part of Pike's Place Market. Our table looked over the water. The waiter did a great job in taking our order, serving our food and checking in to make sure everything was to our liking. The food was delicious. We had Alaskan King Crab Legs and a salad. Great way to finish our last day in Seattle!

Not great

By Andrew G |

Had breakfast here because it was recommended. Sorry to say the food was cold, greasy and the server got the order wrong. Seemed cheap quality also , packaged tasteless jam , frozen packaged potatoes and stale bread. Denny’s restaurants or McDonalds do a better job. I do not recommend breakfast here. Also the staff I encountered seemed completely uninterested.

Salmon & Chips

By Cpjules |

It had been years since we had visited Pike Place Market (and the Athenian). Most of us had their fish and chips (some had salmon & some had halibut). All was vey good. The seating is borderline cramped but it's part of the experience. I probably have been here a good 20-25 times over the past 30 + years and always get the salmon and chips. Love it

Movie Restaurant

By Charles S |

The Athenian is a great place to eat when visiting Pike Place. The restaurant is well known having 'starred' as a location in the Sleepless in Seattle movie. Stars Tom Hanks and Rob Reiner sat in this restaurant and Tom Hanks has a name plate where he actually sat. The seafood is excellent as is the clam chowder and if that wasn't enough reason to visit then there is a great view over the lake. It has everything - worth a visit.

Historic spot, with good food and an awesome view!

By MentorGrl |

We were tourists, visiting Pike Place for the first time, and looking for a spot with local flavor. The posted menu looked intriguing so we walked in and stepped back into time. The place is so darn quaint, with a great water view and genuinely friendly servers. We were seated at a window booth, which was perfect for the three of us. The menu is a little pricey, but hey, we were on vacation. The beer was cold (Frosty Hefeweizen) and the Bloody Mary was just as I like it -- spicy, with unexpected accoutrements. My husband has been pleading with me to make a Crab or Shrimp Louie for the longest time, so when we saw Bay Shrimp Louie on the menu, it was a no brainer! He enjoyed it immensely, and I'm off the hook for another couple of months! I wasn't real hungry, so I ordered the Garlic Hummus Appetizer, which was large enough for a table of five (there were only three of us and we managed to do some damage). My sister ordered the Prawn Cocktail, which was also a very generous size. I only wish I had been hungrier, or that we had a microwave or refrigerator at our hotel, because I would have ordered more. Instead, we'll just have to plan another visit to Seattle! Highly recommended.

Delicious!!!

By C. Landa V. |

We went to Pike Market on a Saturday morning and had an early lunch at the Athenian. It was is a great place full of history and with delicious food. We had crab cakes that were the most wonderful ever and clams in white wine sauce that were out from this world. Our waiter was the best!!! Had a Pinot Grigio that was fresh and crispy. The whole meal was amazing!!!!

Local Institution Seafood Restaurant in Seattle

By Founder of the HBS Wine & Cuisine Societ |

A local institution in Seattle that is nostalgic and always delicious. Love the fact that this place has been untouched and it seems that you are walking back in history, and joining some local fishermen who just finished their catch of the day and came to their favorite pub for some great clams. The place is full of history and was the original decor where they filmed part of the movie sleepless in Seattle. Their seafood is consistently fresh and well executed. Love their seafood bowl, their crab cake, their various fresh clams dishes. Their baked goat cheese plate is also incredible. Their Cod tacos are delicious. More romantically love sitting near the window upstairs or downstairs with its beautiful plunging views of the Seattle Bay . Coffee is delicious and service is always great!

Food is good and reasonably priced

By BarryandJackie |

At lunchtime, we had about a 20 minute wait and then enjoyed a window table. Service was attentive, drinks refilled, and food served hot (e.g., fish and chips).

Nice waitress, good service and very good seafood in what kind you ever want. Seats have a nice view over the Bay from Seattle. Nice place to stay for a good lunch

A plentiful variety of good food!

By Emily K |

I got the athenian salad and it was the boost of fruit and veggies I needed in the seafood capital. I troed some of my family's claim chowder and salmon and it was really good! Plus their draft roobeer was top tier! I definitely recommend for seafood lovers and leavers alike.

Great Food, Great Bar Service

By HNBISOFF |

We ate at the bar at Athenians Seafood. We enjoyed a great view of the Puget Sound while we enjoyed great food and wonderful drinks. My wife really enjoyed her lemon drop martini. The service was excellent.

The service was good and we enjoyed looking over the bay. The food was good but it wasn't extraordinary.

Clam Chowder to die for!

By Victoria201154 |

We had delicious bowls of Clam Chowder. The service was excellent. Our server was super attentive and kind. We sat at the bar, and I ended up sitting on the same bar stool where Tom Hanks sat in a scene from “Sleepless in Seattle’s”!

Seafood With A View

By rontrips |

I have often had lunch at the Pike Place Markets over the years and have never tried the Athenian before. The service was great, the view spectacular but I found the fish and chips to be a bit pricy and the cod serving a bit small.

Retirement Trip

By Beth F |

Great location. Very short no hill walk from The State Hotel. Good prices for food quality. Very busy so please be patient with staff. 20 minutes at most. Waiter was a little busy, so service may suffer. Again be patient. Great laid back atmosphere. On a sunny day will be very warm as they have huge glass windows with awesome views. Hubby had Fried Seafood Platter, me Dungeness Crab Penne.

Excellent!

By ejfisch |

I was recently in Seattle for business with 4 other coworkers. We went out to seafood the first of the three nights we were there and decided we needed to go find somewhere with good chowder on the last night before heading home. This place had caught our eye while we perused Pike Place Market earlier (they conveniently have their menus posted in the windows looking out onto the farmer's market area) and we decided to give it a try. It was dinner time AND happy hour when we went so it was pretty crowded, but we got seated in "the alcove," a very quiet, secluded corner upstairs with an awesome view of Puget Sound and the Great Wheel. The entire place had a very authentic, rustic atmosphere that screamed "good seafood." I'd been convinced I wanted to order the clam chowder bread bowl, but after looking at the list of current dinner specials, I went with the mussels and clams. They were amazing! One of my coworkers ordered the fish tacos and I might just have to try them if I ever find myself here again, because they looked delicious. Our waitress was friendly and fast and very knowledgable when we had questions about the menu. You know you had a good experience when you're still thinking about it 5 days later.

A superb breakfast

By Ashlid1981 |

We stopped here on our early visit to the market for breakfast. Myself, husband, parents and two children (aged 9 & 12) were seated without a wait in a delightful table upstairs overlooking the harbour. The serving staff were friendly, polite and attentive. The menu had a great choice - portion sizes were quite large (as they are in the States), so my children shared and were pleasantly full. Two of us had the scrambled eggs, which were yummy. My father had the seafood scrambled eggs, which he said were delightful. My husband opted for the breakfast bagel which certainly filled a gap! The bill was reasonable & definitely worth every cent.

Nice setting; okay food

By TigerDiner |

The Athenian is part of the very exciting but touristy Pike Market. The restaurant itself is cool - several levels with lots of tables along the windows facing the water. We were there for lunch. Food was good, nothing special. Service was good - friendly and fast.

Delicious & convenient

By LPLoveToTravel |

When in Pikes Market craziness it's great to get respite at a great restaurant. We had halibut tacos and clam chowder in a sourdough bowl.

Great views iconic testaurant

By shawclan |

Iconic restaurant in the market. Good food, great views, friendly staff, bar could improve on mixed drinks. Peak times difficult to get in. Do take reservations.

Red snapper filets are off the hook!!

By johnjT5799BX |

Friday in Lent - okay, so much seafood (non-meat) to choose from!! I opted for the daily special of fish and chips featuring red snapper - fantastic choice! The fish portions were lightly breaded and fried perfectly. The tartar sauce was fantastic - this stuff is totally legit. Wish they sold it bottled to go! The fries wer wonder, hot, crispy, and flavorful. The cole slaw was fresh and flavorful and balanced out the fried food perfectly. Of course the view is fantastic from the 2nd floor and the server was very attentive. Overall, the pricing was good and the whole meal was a great value. Definitely making another trip back on the next time through Seattle.

great place

By dtctully |

we had a great lunch with a beautiful view of the water and the great wheel. we got a seat right away and our waitress was very friendly. Prices were reasonable and food was tasty. We even chose to return the next day, but it was closed.

Unique and nice

By BeLaZe |

It’s in the market, has a century+ long history, and has seated Tom Hanks (a fact you can’t miss if you set foot in here). So the slightly gruff attitude comes across in all good humor and adds to the place’s ambience. Views are great and even though there is no patio seating, COVID-related distancing from other patrons was well accomplished with unobtrusive plexiglass. Service itself is friendly and efficient. Food was mostly really good (ceviche especially, only complaint is clam chowder had little clam in it, yet still tasted ok), drinks fine. Prices are pretty reasonable in Seattle standards. Overall great experience

Good seafood

By Anorahs |

My sister and I wanted some seafood. It is a quaint and cozy atmosphere. It was a bit pricey for lunch… We spent $96 for two people! The food was delicious though. The wait staff was very friendly.

Good service, excellent food, and a great view of the bay.

By Catherine L |

This is a casual place with very limited hours and very good food. We arrived 15 minutes before 'last call" - meaning we had 15 minutes to order - and this was at 6:30 pm (winter hours). I was worried about that - but service was attentive, not obtrusive and not annoying. Prices were Not inexpensive but also not unreasonable considering we were in a major city. We were celebrating so splurged a bit. We had the salmon and the fettuccine with dungeness crab. Really well done, simple, yet creative. Good service, excellent food, and a great view of the bay.

fabulous setting above the waterfront; excellent menu and quality of food

By stuart q |

we ate here a week or so ago. All seats face over the waterfront, and offer diners excellent views. The service is friendly and faultless. Our food- sea food- was exquisitely cooked and very tasty, and all in all represented excellent value for money

Not what I expected

By F C |

I was there during a visit to Seattle in May. I really don't understand the high ratings except for the wait staff who were very nice. The food was not what I was expecting. It was very bland. I had the Athenian Seafood Bowl and my son had the Deep Fried Seafood combination. We shared our plates and both agreed it was not worth the price.

Great food & mostly accessible space

By Blovesfood |

We were wandering around looking at menus in Pike Place Market and the menu looked good so we gave it a try. We ordered the salmon burger and sweet potato fries and a grilled halibut sandwich with cole slaw. Both orders were so delicious! The wait staff were attentive and friendly during the busy lunch time. We were on the 2nd floor with a nice view of the Great Wheel. The restaurant is somewhat accessible. The first floor is kind of narrow and there isn't an elevator to get to higher floors if mobility is an issue. Bathrooms are on 1.5 floor - a mid floor between the first floor and second floor. 10/10 recommend for delicious seafood, great service, and view.

Not as it was!

By breadcrumb |

Many years ago my husband and i ate here. I was hoping to bring back memories. All i received was a piece of dry halibut, cold potatoes and tasteless veggies. you'll be better offf finding a restaurant outside of the Pike's Place.

Good food and service

By Liz B |

Really good food and great service! It also has a nice ambiance. I can see why they used it for a location in "Sleepless in Seattle".

Excellent place for lunch

By Norm P |

Had an excellent lunch overlooking the Ferris wheel. Fish & chips were perfect & wife thought fish tocos were very good. Liked salmon better than cod tacos. (Allowed to order one of each).

Great seafood at Pikes Place

By Christine R |

A great restaurant at Pikes place. Every restaurant gets busy there so be prepared to wait for a table. The fried calamari was very good. Burger was fantastic. Fish and chips were nice and crispy. The staff was great. We had a nice view from upper windows. I will definitely go here again when at Pikes place.

great views, good brews

By mardi c |

My first stop for breakfast is always the athenian when I visit seattle. Its funny that the viaduct is gone, and the view is so open now. We had the seafood scramble and it was not only enough for two, but yummy. The wait staff here is well versed in answering any questions you might have. ask and you will learn anything you want. delightful, and tradition for me.

Brilliant service and good

By nottsguy57 |

Decided to try this place for breakfast on a 2 day stop in seattle. The menu was unusual but interesting. Decided to join the queue . Was greeted by a character who was so nice but loud to say, the least! It was absolutely brilliant to have such banter first thing in the morning. The food was excellent. I had ground beef with onion, mushrooms and pepper scrambled eggs. It was brilliant. The lovely server kept me topped up with coffee. Can't recommend this place highly enough!

Great place to take a break from being a tourist and people watch.

By Michael B |

Athenian is not a Greek restaurant but named after the home town where the three Greek brothers who started it came from over a hundred years ago. Situated in the heart of Pike Market we had to battle through the crowds of tourists to get to the restaurant. Fortunately, being a weekday lunch time, it did not take too long to get seated. The hostess was very friendly and placed in a booth with an amazing view of Elliot Bay with the ferries crossing backwards and forwards over the sound and the Olympic mountain range in the back ground. Apparently part of a film called Sleepless in Seattle was filmed here according to all the photos and posters on the walls, they even have the seat where the lead actor sat to eat marked. We ordered Clam Chowder nice and thick, shrimp cocktail big with a decent dip, I found the fish and chips ok, but for a fishing town nothing spectacular, and a tad expensive. They have a good selection of craft beers. TIP: They have a plaque so you can take a photo sitting in Tom Hanks’ seat.

There since 1909!

By 2onvacaton |

Nothing fancy but the view is marvelous. Pikes market is a very crowded, thus this restaurant can have a long wait… we were stunned when it turned out to be 5 minutes. Tasty beer, food was ok, but the service from dynamo Shannon was outstanding. Shannon’s upbeat personality, attention and smile made our day.

May want to consider another place

By Linda L |

Average. Portions were fine but dishes lacked any flavor. Ordered 4 different top seafood specials offered. Oysters were expensive but divine. Nice view. Go for happy hour and eat bar menu, to get same view; your wallet and your satisfaction will thank you.

Fine Food and Cocktails

By DrSynteq |

My wife and I visited them for lunch one day and breakfast the next. My wife found the fish and chips excellent. In appearance they sent to not be from a food distribution firm but actually made on site. I went with burger with bacon. The bacon really made the difference. They relatively pile on the bacon. Their version of a Moscow Mule is great! For breakfast my wife had the omelette and I ordered the three eggs w/bacon. Both egg dishes cooked to perfection! We also ordered a cup of chowder. Beat darn chowder my taste buds met in the last fifty years!

Bad Shrimp Lunch Means a Short Lunch !

By Rafael |

Nice view from 2nd Story Booths. Shrimp Cocktail was soft and squishy ! Had to return plate. In retaliation the waiter told us "We have People waiting so anytime you can wrap it up" Rude Rude Rude ! Not appreciated at all ! Don't eat here. No need to visit this restaurant to be treated Rudely. Shrimp not Fresh, Frozen with Freezer burn.

Nice Atmosphere

By Ken (haileythegolden) |

We had a nice window view of the waterfront on the 2nd level. My wife had a cup of the clam chowder and she thought us was very good. We also shared the cod fish and chips. Nice size portion, 2 pieces of fish, chips and cold slaw. Very friendly service

a junction for tourists and locals to mix

By imthecounselor |

Located in Pikes Place Public Market it has excellent plentiful waterfront views from 3 downstairs rooms and an upstairs one as well. Food looks and smells delicious with large servings. This visit we sat at the bar with would be diners waiting for tables and found plenty of conversation with locals brunching, girls weekend group, and tourists from around the world. Fast, friendly service. The bill for 2 tasty Bloody Marys, and 3 craft beer pints was $35.78 including tax. You'll want to tip for good service.

Quick stop for lunch on a rainy day

By Elizabeth M |

Deep in the heart of Pikes Market is this gem of a lunch restaurant. I'm not sure if they are open past lunch, but whether you have to wait or not, it's worth it. If you do wait, which I did, you can explore the market and mosey on back to the restaurant around the time your table is supposed to be ready. Apparently a scene from Sleepless in Seattle was filmed here?? Had no clue before I entered. Most tables have a view of Elliot Bay and Bainbridge Island (on a clear day), which makes the atmosphere even better. There is a small bar area in the bottom, although all tables are still reserved for those who see the hostess stand. Only dish I have tried here is the Smoked Turkey Sandwich: Lemon basil aioli with swiss cheese, onion, lettuce, tomato and avocado, served with french fries. Portions were LARGE and easily fill you up! Luckily, its right in the heart of the market, so you can walk it off. Bathrooms were very clean and service was quick and friendly.

Great views, good food

By Julie |

Stopped here while exploring Pike Place. Everyone enjoyed their meals. Views are excellent (if seated by the windows)

Great service, good food and drinks

By Neil |

Worth the wait. We had to get on a wait list to get in the door on the Monday after Memorial Day. We gave our name and then walked around the market for a while. Wasn't sure if the wait would be worth it but it was. When we were finally seated by a window looking out over the water the waitress appeared right away. She was very polite, helpful and efficient. The food and drinks were good and the price was reasonable. I would go there again. Very pleased with the service and the food.

Great views

By BRIAN H |

I always visit when in Seattle. Eclectic wait staff, very friendly. Generally good sea food. Had the clam chowder which was in a very creamy base, good flavor with tender generous portion of clams. I had the special, red snapper fish and chips. The fish was somewhat bland without as solid a texture as cod. Fries were ok, not very crispy. Fast service. I would get the regular fish and chips next time.

Food for all - Pleasantly surprised

By Leftmehere |

We arrived at Pike Market late in day exhausted and hungry. So we ducked into the first place we saw. I didn’t expect much. Was pleasantly surprised - fantastic service, food, drinks, view, and prices. So impressed that waiter was knowledgeable about what was vegan on the menu. In our group was a person who only ate extremely plain american food, a vegan, a pescatarian, and an adventurous seafood loving carnivore.

Nothing to brag about!! I expected a much better kitchen

By dantei462 |

Really good service there are many employees who speak Spanish The food Really normal. The clam cream, nothing to surprise Good but salty clams And the seafood dish, the worst, no taste

Good not great

By 74johna837 |

Food was ok but not great. Fish and chips good but I've had better. Hostess very unfriendly. Server much more friendly.

We Liked it so much we had dinner the next day.

By Richard B |

After arriving in Seattle via Amtrak, the first place we visited was Pike Place Market. After walking around we decided to have lunch here. I had broiled salmon while my friend ordered the fried seafood platter. I mean this sincerely, there was enough food on the platter that we both would have enjoyed it! The salmon was cooked to perfection. The next day we were thinking about where to eat and went back to the Market. Most of the places were closed but this restaurant was open and I was in the mood for king crab legs. Again, the Athenian did not disappoint. Well worth the visit and not too expensive either. I would highly recommend.

Excellent Fish!

By MHect |

We visited this restaurant on a Tuesday for lunch. I had the Halibut special with strawberry/blueberry topping and my wife had the fried cod sandwich. My halibut was excellent, my wife thought the cod sandwich was good. We came back for dinner on Thursday and had the fish special again; I again had the halibut and my wife the grilled salmon. I should mention that each entree comes with your choice of homemade mash potatoes, fries, or rice. A vegetable medley is also served. The grilled fish arrived and there was a decent slab of fish for each of us. The salmon was moist, but cooked through. My halibut was a tad dry, but nevertheless very good. The decor of the restaurant is somewhat simple, with wooden benches for seating, but with great views of the water. Service was attentive but not intrusive. In summary, great food for a reasonable price and no complicated check either. We would definitely come back.

Just Ok

By DTH256 |

Party of six - service took a while to get going, but then was pretty good. Food just ok. Fish & Chips were a bit soggy, but well flavored. Great view.

Excellent good value food with outstanding views

By Jaquesatraveller |

Good quality seafood, outstanding views, no wait time, reasonable prices and quick friendly service. Fish and chips seemed the best bet. What more could you want?

Old time restaurant

By njgramps |

This old time restaurant has direct views of the bay from the wooden seats adjacent to the windows. THe menu is typical of the area and there doesn't appear to be anything Athenian about it - I was expecting some Greek items on the menu. Our fish dinners were fine but my halibut portion was skimy for the price. Wiater was very professional - returning my wife's fish ann chips to be kept warm while she was away from the tble.

An old favorite, revisited. So happy its recognizable.

By Pepper |

This is one of the oldest Seattle landmarks. A place where real fishermen came after a long morning in the sound. When I first came to Seattle 47 years ago it was my go-to place in the market. The sheer authenticity ( and the oyster dishes) drew me back , usually Sunday mornings. Now its catch as catch can- but it just made me so happy to go back. I think its a don't miss if you want a feel for what Seattle used to be.

Great food and value

By Tammy E |

Went here on recommendation by a local. Fantastic halibut and chips. Best food of the weekend and definitely the best value. We are at a few higher end restaurants on our trip but oust this place on top of them all.

Lovely lunch and a terrific view

By WestTexasGal46 |

Delightful lunch with great food and terrific service. We arrived early enough to snag a great table which made it even better. Excellent clam chowder, a Crab Louie salad, and a lovely glass of Chardonnay made for a happy happy girl!

View's and Great Food!!

By Linda W |

I love coming to this restaurant and bringing friends here for lunch. It is where they filmed some of Sleepless in Seattle, so it is fun to see the pics on the walls. The views are amazing from the tables by the windows as you can watch the ferries go across the sound. The service is always great and the food is always delicious!!

We had just arrived and checked into our hotel, after a delayed flight we were ready to have something to eat so we went to the Pike's Market, we just saw this restaurant and walked in, there was a wait so we asked if we could seat at the bar and that is first come first serve so we just walked in to find a place to seat. It was very busy but thankfully there was a couple of seats at the bar. The bartender Amanda was very busy but attentive and friendly to every customer. We had the clam chowder and calamari... so so good!! Also, the views from some of the boots looked so beautiful. Great food and Great service!

Great Breakfast

I had the traditional breakfast: 3 eggs, home fries, and toast. Sounds simple but everything was perfect. The home fries were great and a large portion. The view of the harbor was outstanding since it was a clear day and there were many boats.

We wanted to eat fresh Dungeness crab. We had to wait for 25 mins but as the market was around time pass easily. We ordered a sautéed seafood plate, salad, chowder and Dungeness crab. Everything tasted so good. We finished everything up and felt full and satisfied.

Great views, tasty seafood, convenient location

We were aiming at a different restaurant but were intrigued by the old school feel of the Athenian. We came in at 7pm on a summer Tuesday and got a nice table by the window. Our server, Morgan, was everything we wanted - quick, attentive, friendly, and accommodating of my inadvertent dumping of the cole slaw on the floor. I had the Athenian seafood bowl, good chunks of salmon, cod and shellfish on top of rice. I really enjoyed the broth too. My girlfriend loved her fried shrimp (although it was her cole slaw I knocked on the ground), Two entrees, two beers, one wine....$75. I'd go back.

Great lunch with great views

Our “Go To” place in the public market. Perfect for very casual lunch. Consistent quality. Fair prices. Only reason it’s not a 5 star is because we felt we were being rushed to finish. And there was no one waiting.

Great seafood.

My family and I loved it here. The Dungeness Crab was amazing. The crab cakes were even better. There were also incredible views.

Good choice

Son and I stopped in for lunch on a cold, wet day. Found place to be a bit funky, but still fun. Both had fish and chips - the fish was fresh and good but the breading needed seasoning. Chips were ok - neither the best or worst we have had. Cole slaw was very good - liked the fact that the dressing was light, and lightly applied, so that the taste of the veggies came through. Beer was good, and service was excellent. Prices are reasonable for Seattle
