Tasty!

By Kristina G |

The server was quite knowledgeable and had good recommendations. The Enchanted Forest and cauliflower were delicious! The decor in the restaurant was very tasteful.

Fantastic vegetarian food!

Great flavors in a wide variety of treats wait you at Aviv. These plant-based foods may surprise you with their complexities.

Amazing vegan food

By NotWearingACap |

Possibly the nicest Middle Eastern food I have ever had. I would recommend the jackfruit brisket and the mushroom plate.

Fantastic

Wonderful vegan food with a great choice of spicy sauces based on Israeli food. Especially enjoyed the'mac and cheese'.

Awesome fusion style vegan restaurant

By Chris Ryan |

A delightful fusion-style vegan restaurant in Portland, Oregon. Food*** We ordered the falafel style plate and the Schwarma Pita. The pita was delicious and we both couldn’t get enough but the falafel style plate was small and the both the falafel and the sides had little to be desired. Service*** It was fine, nothing special. Like many restaurants in Portland, Oregon they are restricted by the rules of Covid-19 so it was eat outside in the cold or take it home. We decided to take it home. Atmosphere*** Again, restricted by the rules of Covid so we can’t give this a positive or negative review since we couldn’t eat inside but it looked nice from the outside! Price$$ Not that bad considering the amount of food you get.

Really good vegan food

By J S |

Had a really nice brunch here today. We had a falafel bowl and a spinach pastry with vegan feta in a spinach sauce. The food was excellent--intensely flavorful, with perfectly cooked falafel balls (a rarity in this part of the world), a hot salsa fresca and excellent hummus. The spinach pastry was great--it kept its texture, was fresh and tasty, and generously sized. The wait staff is very pleasant, responsive and professional; they were flexible about exchanging an ingredient, and made every effort to keep us and nearby tables happy. I will definitely go back!

Yummy!

The food is prepared fresh and tastes wonderful! I’m not a vegetarian/vegan, but I loved the Israeli veggie food dishes. Lots of choices! Try the sautéed cauliflower, it melts in your mouth.

Fabulous!!

Food was amazing!! Everything we ordered was good and portion size was great. The beet and cheese dip was great. We also had the schwarma which I highly recommend. Service and atmosphere was great.

Most memorable dinner of our trip

By Nottrimmm |

It's been a bit over six months since my daughter and I completed our sixteen day trip thru Portland, Seattle and Oahu. Now, six months later only one dinner remains in our memories - dinner at Aviv. It was the highlight dinner of our travels. Go there and enjoy!! I hope we'll get another chance to do so.

Delicious food, friendly staff, excellent vegan selection

By JessinFlag |

This was a great surprise find after a day of shopping in the area. My best friend used the happy cow app to find this spot. We weren’t expecting much from the curb view but inside the atmosphere was incredible. The server was excellent and he helped coach us along as we picked out a few things to sample. It was tough to narrow down the unique menu to just a couple dishes! Everything was very rich and tasty. I’ll be back with vegan and carnivore guests in the future.

Genuine!

By Matthew E |

I was in Tel Aviv just last month and can testify that the food in Aviv is genuine, and delicious. Flavoursome and filling. Great decor too

Was hoping it would be better than it turned out to be ...

By Bryan H |

Went for lunch on a Sunday, and there was no brunch crowd to speak of. Vegan establishment with an Israeli bent to it. Service was fine, but not outstanding. Maybe I didn't orderly properly. The breakfast board was O.K., but not great. I agree with a Yelp reviewer who notes the hummus is great. I thought so, too. My friend enjoyed the pastry dish that he ordered, as well. Thought it was ridiculous to pay eight dollars for a pot of tea, which turned out to be a tea bag and hot water. If it's a tea bag, it doesn't really cost them anymore to give me a cup of tea or a pot. Eight dollars?!? The decor seems somewhat the same from the previous vegan restaurant that was there in years past.

Kinda Bland and with Small Servings

By JasperMarks |

We ate here once for dinner and once for brunch. My wife and I were both disappointed both times. Perhaps we're spoiled because we eat at Cedo's so often. Cedo's is some of the best Mediterranean food I've ever eaten. On the other hand, sadly, Aviv's food was kind of tasteless and/or had too small of a serving. For example, for dinner we ordered the eggplant dish. The eggplant was pretty tasty, kind of reminded us of an eggplant dish we enjoyed in Denmark. However, unlike in Denmark where the order came with two large sides of eggplant, at Aviv we were served half of a small eggplant. By the time you scraped out what was edible there was hardly anything to eat. We also tried brunch. French toast was so so and claimed to come with seasonal fruit. The fruit amounted to one strawberry and two blackberries. My wife's dish wasn't bad, but she was still hungry after she ate and had to order a second entree. I'm sticking with Cedo's.

Everything was delicious

By CharlieR865 |

Four of us - three vegetarians and a veggie sympathizer - ordered nine or 10 dishes between us. All were delicious, and we went back for seconds on the brussel sprouts. Friendly service, reasonable prices. Can't wait to go again.

First Time was Fantastic!

I'm not even Vegan, and I went to this place twice in one month. Absolutely clean, delicious Israel cuisine! The Enchanted Forest was my fave! Great casual atmosphere and excellent service even though they were slammed.

Delicious food; great value

By Kat S |

Have now eaten here for weekend brunch and weekday lunch. Everything is really tasty, and unique flavor profiles. Especially for lunch, you get a lot of food for your money!

Terrific for vegetarian lunch or dinners

By akdouglas |

I have eaten here many times and the plant-based meals are delicious, varied, and first rate! A wild assortment of hummus variations—try them all! Many meals are very large and enough for two to split—so get a couple hummus plates and a meal to share and I guarantee you’ll be full.

Vegan and tasty!

By Zoya K |

I am not a vegan, my daughter is, so we went to Aviv for a brunch. I have not regretted it one bit. The food was just delicious, so rich in flavors and quite filling as well. I had shakshuka, I asked for mild spiciness and got it. Everybody at our table really enjoied their selections. Super friendly and very reasonably priced. Highly recommended!

Vegan Delights.

By jackwidely |

Too much food was consumed by our group on a Saturday night. no reservations, but we didn't wait to get a table for 4. a bit west of the Division Street dining madness. full bar with interesting cocktail menu. started with too many appetizers because they all sounded so good- Harrisa Hummus twice! (we order another after the first cause it is so excellent). Beet salad is really a spread with perfect taste and texture. Pita will be ordered many times. Gluten Free pita was nice as well (Rice based?). Grilled carrots were unique- not sure how they grilled them in such a fine manner, but they were tasty and crisp and complete whole carrots! Small Falafel and Cauliflower ended our starters- recommend them and everything else we ordered. we were pretty full by now, but continued with the Fries-Shawarma which were spicy and filling. Grilled mushroom plate had 3 varieties of full just lightly pan fried mushrooms. a delight with polenta cakes. we did have to bring home leftovers as we over ordered! breakfast was great at home the next day. parking lot in front might fit your needs but it is small or just down on division or 12th will have parking. Ramp for handicap folks is right there too. An Israeli menu- but additionally middle-eastern, but beyond simple common dishes. NO meat or dairy.

Flavors from the Middle East in Portland

By Judith N. |

I was beyond ecstatic we found this place during our visit to Portland! It's in a popular area right across a bus stop and the other vegan place, Virtuous Pie. Once we heard it was an Israeli-inspired vegan restaurant, we had to give it a try! Now, as some people have said, the service is a bit weird. The hostess was not too friendly and the server rarely talked to us or approached us. It wasn't even that busy. Regardless, the food did come out quick and boy, it was so delicious! From their dinner menu (as they have a daytime, brunch, and dinner menu), under their "small bites" section, we had the Labneh (soft cashew cheese, ztar, pita) and the Carrots Al Ha Esh (roasted carrots, labneh, harissa). I still think about these carrots and hummus. The carrots tasted more like sweet potato and melted in your mouth, The ztar from the labneh appetizer made the dish. From the entree section, we had the Spinach Bourekas which were two savory tofu feta and spinach pastries with pickles, Israeli salad, and zhoug. I'd have to say the salad was the best part of this whole entree. The pastries were good, but the salad was better. We also had the Shawarma Sandwich (hummus, shawarma soy curls, pickles, tomato, cucumber, tahini, amba, zhoug) with fries. The taste was outstanding. Loved the blend of all the flavors. As for dessert, we had the Tahini Brownie (coffee ice cream, raw tahini, sumac). It had been a while since I had a good warm-served dessert and this was by far it. All the flavors came together perfectly. I'd advise that although the portions are rather small, share this dessert with someone else. It is pretty rich.

The way vegan should be!

Possibly one of the best vegan meals I have ever had! The food was so flavorful and delicious! The service was also excellent (friendly, prompt and so nice!) ...we will return for sure! Everything on the menu is vegan.

Okay vegan, but Portobello Vegan Trattoria was better

By Leonard L |

We visited the predecessor at this location, Portobello Vegan Trattoria several times. There non-vegans found it easy to enjoy the vegan food. Aviv offers similar atmosphere, pretty good service and decent food.Staff was friendly, but had difficulties when three of us wanted to eat our dishes family style. Had to be asked several times to bring serving spoons. Hummus seemed fresh and was quite good, but we missed the fantastic vegan tiramisu we used to enjoy at this spot.

Truly delicious, great service, very reasonable prices

By LynnOutdoors |

From the outside, Aviv doesn't look like much. Once inside, the restaurant is spacious and the service great. I love high end Israeli food with creative interpretations of old favorites. I also love feta and labneh and am not vegan, so wasn't sure I'd like the non-dairy versions. Aviv blew me away. Each dish was fresh and deliciously flavored. We had the hummus with hatch chiles, falafel, beets with cashew labneh, brussel sprouts (served on a skewer), broccolini, and lots of steaming hot pita just out of the oven. We were only in Portland for a few days and so many restaurants to try. Aviv is already on our list for when we're back!

Amazing meal

By ORMum |

Our family of 6 had a delicious dinner at Aviv. There are so many variations of the hummus, we tried about 4 of them, and they were all really good. We also tried their street corn which was an appetizer special, and it was amazing. Shawarma, spinach bourekas and jackfruit brisket were all delicious. The only issue was that the restaurant was very full and service was a bit slow, but still friendly and helpful.

Decent Vegan

By misanthropicdreamer |

Cute wood wall. Breezy atmosphere. Nice service. Authentic Falafel. They offer gluten free pita which is nice. Best to get falafel in a pita instead of the bowl where everything gets soggy. I suggest that they get a new set of dishes and cups instead of the mismatched ones. My ice cream came in a cracked cup. Overall Decent for a vegan meal.

Intimate, pleasant. Unique flavors

By RubyDuo |

Great to get out and beat the crowd during super bowl Sunday. We got there early, but it was filling up by the time we left. It's the building with the huge banana painted on the side by Gorilla WallFlare. Hip music. Exotic dishes of the middle east with a veggie vibe. Would definitely come again.

Truly a gem

Whether or not you are vegetarian, this place is superb. The flavors, variety, colors, presentation and wait staff are amazing. I have been twice and can't wait to go back.

Yum! Yum! Yum!

By Gail D |

Israeli-inspired vegan food? What a treat! My omni friend and I enjoyed one of the most sensational meals in Portland ever. If you love beets, I highly recommend the beet salad appetizer made with roasted beet puree, cashew labneh, hazelnuts, and zaatar. (We both agreed it was amazing.) And while I'm not a mac n' cheese kind of girl, I ordered The Truffle Mac & Cheese upon our server's recommendation. Just. WOW! Such a great meal!

Always terrific

By akdouglas |

The food here is a vegetarian/vegan’s delight! I only wish they had more lighter options and salads. There are a lot of bowls involving fries that are tempting but pretty heavy. Portions are large and the fresh baked pita is terrific! Clearly they care about flavor combinations and careful thought has been put into creating these delicious dishes. Highly recommended as a healthier alternative to nearby Pine Street Biscuits if their line is too long for you to wait. Aviv has great service.

Good new vegan restaurant in town!

By tellatraveltale |

The restaurant has a very casual feel and the menu was very interesting considering that it was a vegan interpretation of Israeli food. We ordered the spicy shawarma hummus, Israeli salad, grilled corn, bbq styled jackfruit. The hummus was delicious and was topped with a spicy chilli paste, the soy curls shawarma was well seasoned too. The pita served with it was good but could be better, it needs to be fluffier. The corn was the highlight of the meal. The flavours of seasonings enhanced the grilled corn on the cob. The Israeli salad was decent, it could have been better with a bit more herbs. The BBQ styled jackfruit seved on a matzo cracker seemed like an interesting dish on paper but didn't quite work well in reality. The seasoning for jackfruit wasn't anything special and lacked the flavours. The amba (meaning mango) sauce was the colour of mango but extremely tart. The matzo cracker was a wrong base for this dish and the least satisfying accompaniment in terms of texture and taste for the jackfruit. Rice would have been a better choice with the jackfruit. The portion of this dish considering its a main course was on the smaller side. Overall the dish was more acidic. We ordered this bread on the side that was served with shakshuka and that was outstanding and so delicious. The texture and taste was perfect. For dessert we ordered the pistachio ice-cream. It was rich and amazingly delicious. Only change they could bring in is that it could be less sweet. This is a new restaurant and is still trying to perfect certain dishes. Overall really enjoyed the dining experience here.

I’m not vegan or vegetarian, but WOW.

By Arthur M |

My daughter, an almost vegan, called us, saying “I found a place we should try.” Looking forward to some family time and being driven by my son-in-law, I quickly agreed. With minimal input from my wife and me (what do 80 year olds know?), my daughter ordered three large plates and two small ones, all for sharing. Frankly, without looking up the menu, I cannot remember all the ingredients, but the variety worked, the spices worked, the freshness worked as did the service. The place was packed when we arrived at about six and also when we left at about seven thirty.

Best fries!!

By dcastelucci |

Their shawarma fries are absolutely delicious, I loved it!! Place is cozy, and menu is so interesting- different from any other option we found in town. Flavor is unique and place is cozy. I missed having an explanation in English of the typical dishes
