Friendly staff, fair food

By awhitelady |

We were greeted warmly by the staff as we walked to the counter to order. We order the scallops with grilled vegetables, shrimp cocktail, fried shrimp basket and key lime pie. The deseert was a huge slice of pie android was served first. The scallops had no flavor and were a little too charred. The shrimp cocktail was good and the shrimp basket came with good French fries. Maybe we will give this place one more chance or maybe not.

Girls Night Out!

By derondah |

Checked out Aww Shucks w/some friends & it was reminiscent of something you'd see beachside. The crab legs were good, however the place was tight, tables were very cramped & parking was minimal. I had to park several blocks away in the adjacent neighborhood & walked.

Great Oyster Bar with a view

By ItchyB68 |

Usually I will come here when crawfish is in season. Oysters on the half shell are fresh and a nice selection of beers. They have peel and eat shrimp, crab legs, and fish.

City meets beach!

By OhRenee |

Love this place, beach meets city!.. Fresh seafood, great assortment of many options. A must visit! Customer service is great. Honest policy. You pay after you eat.

Really fun patio atmosphere and very inexpensive.

Wow,wow and Wow! The freshest food and fabulous Wine A'Rita's.The ordering system is purely an honesty system. You place your order at the counter, they call your name, you eat and drink. Then pay on your way out.You simply tell them what you ordered. The wonderful staff member at the register allowed me to use her wifi hotspot so I could onto the Lyft app. Great place! Take me back there!

Our favorite!

By Gayle47 |

We love this place! When we drive to Dallas (4 hrs away) for the weekend, we eat here everyday! The fried shrimp and shrimp cocktail is AMAZING! We love the layed back atmosphere, Aw Shucks is just a little hole in the wall on lower Greenville......we love it!

Great seafood

By jani s |

This eatery offers a variety of fresh & tasty dishes with great prices. You order then wait for your to be delivered. Seating is indoors as well as outdoors. Poorboys, fish tacos & crab boil dish are a thumbs up. Very attentive & friendly wait staff.

Great place for seafood...

By kevwoh |

My wife and myself have driven by this place for a while now and every time we drive by, we say we should stop there sometime. We stopped there on a Sat night and it was packed. Nothing wrong with that, tells me that the food will be good. We were surprised on how good the food was. To start off our order, we got a dozen raw oyster to share and ordered a pound of boiled craw fish. After that we ordered fish tacos to share along with an order of hush puppies. All of their food was great. Service was great and food delivery was fast. I can not remember the last time I went to a restaurant that was on the honor system, you order what you want to eat and drink, then when you are ready to leave. You get up and go to cashier and tell them what you had.

Best Shrimp Cocktail

By garyDallas_Tx |

This place has the best shrimp cocktails in the world and one is enough for lunch. Many other items on the menu that are great, especially the fish taco's.

GREAT Restaurant! Perfect little dive restaurant!

By Willmuzik |

I've been here many times, and it's consistently great food. Walkup to the bar and order anything you like off the menu. My favorites (although everything is really good) are the steamer platter for two, the shrimp cocktail, and my always, must-have, get-it-everytime is the ceviche. To me, a perfect complement to a summer afternoon is the ceviche and an ice-cold Corona, just doesnt get any better. Pick your seat inside or out, and chow down when your order is called. A giant roll of paper towels sets on every table, and trust me, you'll need it. A cool point about this place is payment; totally done on the honor system. On your way out, repeat your order back to the cashier and pay there. Very old school and adds to the character to this wonderful little restaurant. I make it a point to take visiting friends and family here on their visit. WELL worth the visit, and I'll always go back for more.

Even Better Than We Remembered

By twofromtexas42 |

Although it was drizzling outside, we didn't mind eating outside under the tent. The food came out hot and fresh. The fried shrimp, oysters and catfish were delectable. Since they didn't offer clam chowder, my mother ordered the caldo (seafood caldo) and it was very spicey. We all left very satisfied with our meal. Service was friendly and very efficient. If this says anything, although it was raining outside, the place was packed with patrons.

Southern Fried Heaven

By DallasFoodDiva |

This is one of the few places left in town you can still get the amazing Southern Cornbread Dressing. Melt in you mouth catfish makes you unashamed to lick your fingers in public. This is very casual dining, you'll see lots of jeans and T's.

Amazing Shrimp Cocktail

By Tanja D |

My husband and I decided to try this place after someone told us about their whole Catfish. We arrived around 5:30 pm and because it was happy hour the oysters on the half shell were half price ($7.50) THEY HAD A FISHY TASTE so they were not fresh. I ordered the shrimp cocktail ($9.99) ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS. The cilantro, onions and tomato juice was scrumptious with the plentiful supply of shrimp. I also ordered the whole Catfish ($10.00) came with huge fries but it was DELICIOUS! !! The peach margarita ($3.50) I ordered was pretty good as well. Overall the food was good but I wish they had big fans or ac units blowing cold air because it was warm inside. Definitely will be back soon for the shrimp cocktail.

Average at best

By Shannon G |

Was so excited to try this place based on the good reviews, and was disappointed by the quality of our experience. The food was average at best- the shrimp needed more seasoning and the fish had a nasty chemical taste. It was great how they use the honor system however we will not be returning.

Hero to zero

By rchand1962 |

Fried fish is over cooked.small portions, and do not order to go. Then they really short change you.. it use to be my favorite place to go in dallas for catfish

Awkwardly amazing

By toohard2handletiff |

When you walk in, you must remember to go up to the counter to order. The crab cakes were enormous! Oysters were great, and the shrimp cocktail was a beer mug portion, literally. They use the honesty system when you check out, which is refreshing to see. When you are done, you just walk up to the register, and tell them what you ate. It is a small place, but it is well priced, and great food. Don't be intimidated, it's too good to miss.

Fun spot!

By paramedicokie |

It was a beautiful sunny day in Dallas the afternoon we visited so the outdoor patio was perfect. Their shrimp cocktail is delish & fried shrimp is great. Make your own cocktail sauce. When leaving you tell the cashier what you had. I couldnt believe it! The honor system?! We ordered way too much food. Dont miss this place! Next best thing to being right on the beach.

Good casual seafood!

By bettyctravels |

We've been here twice while traveling through Dallas. Very, very laid back place but in a cute area with great seafood. The ceviche is really fresh and big enough to share. We also had raw oysters and they were also really fresh. Fried shrimp platter, can't go wrong. So cute that they do the honor system thing! We've been when it was pretty packed and busy so they did buzz us to get our food from the counter, but the second time we went for a late lunch and someone brought our food out (wasn't as busy). I think it's a great value for a casual and yummy seafood lunch.

Great place if you're a local, not so much for tourists

By Theodora8 |

I go to this place often but I don't think I can recommend this to tourists unless you really want to eat seafood in a shack. If you're tired of meat (we eat a lot of it in Texas), try a dozen raw oysters or the summer platter.

Good food

By YOFLO40 |

first of all this place isnt your typical sit down restaurant. You give them your name and order your food, then you go sit down. they bring the food to you by calling your name out going table to table until they find you. we had a group of at least 25 people. all indivdual orders. Everyone got their food rather quickly. I had the 2 piece fish and french fry lunch special. It was very good. fish was deep fried and had a good taste to it.. they do give you lots of fries. those were good too. when you're done you pay at the front,.it's on the honor system. you tell them what you had and they charge you. its pretty simple. this is the first time i have been to this place and I would go again.

Good Food and LOTS of It!

By alleyash |

Dive bar with many, delicious seafood options. The shrimp cocktail served in a big ol' beer mug is a must-have. The atmosphere reminds me of a lot of beachside bars you would find on the coast, even though you are landlocked in the Dallas area 😁

great casual seafood and ambience

By Marushka |

The grilled fish plate was Very Good, the plates of crawfish/oysters/shellfish that I saw others ordering looked super, too. big portions, very friendly customers and staff. Not fancy, but comfortable and delicious!

Perfect fried seafood shack in the middle of dallas

By Kitkit1260 |

Shack may not be the right word, aw shucks is a tiny buildind with a covered area with oicnic tables for diners. But thats where ho yum ends. Perfectly prepared fried oysters, crab cakes, shrimp..many other seafood offerings...can get very crowded, last time there parking is very tight...but off hours its a perfect place for committing fried food sin....

Surprised this place was Good and Inexpensive

By Mike P |

Went to see a friend across the street. We got there early,so we saw this place across the street. Figured what the heck..The process for ordering . Walk up to counter. Make an order and wait till it was done. Found a seat and ate Ceviche, A Fish Po'Boy, and some Gumbo. When we finished. We walked to the door, told them what we had. He figured it up and we paid him. The food was beyond our expectations. I highly recommend this place. Next time I'm in Dallas i will find this place and eat there again...

A Must for 30 Years!

By Glenn M |

I have been eating here since they opened and it is the same every time - the only thing that's changed is both the building and I show some wear and tear. They operate on the honor system - order and just tell them what you had at checkout. I have had basically everything they serve and seriously eaten here whenever possible for 30 Years even though I live an hour away. This location is my original and it is a bit divey but they have other locations that are more sit down indoor restaurant type - Crawfish, shrimp cocktail, fried shrimp....Forrest Gump would also agree this is where he would eat if he wanted shrimp in Dallas.

Meal to go

By I M |

We have friends that really enjoy the restaurant so we bought a gift card as a holiday gift. For doing so, we received a $10 from the restaurant and used in on a to-go order. The food was fine but nothing to write home about. I had the grilled tilapia. Nice size portion but didn't have much flavor. I added some seasoning and it was good.

4.5 Stars, Really???

By Gerry |

I certainly did not have a 4.5 star experience. This is a hole in teh wall kind fo place which is okay. Order at the counter and pay on the way out, I started with a fairly bland bowl of shrimp and sausage gumbo, very disappointed, My entree was the pick three basket, I chose coconut shrimp, crab cake and fried oysters. The shirimp was tough, the crab cake mostly filler and the five oysers about the size of a quarter. I also got some hush puppies that were decent but didn;t have much flavor. They had four beers on tap, $3.50 for 12 ounces.

New Orleans comes to Dallas

By ElGuru71 |

Aw Shucks provides good Louisiana style seafood in a laid back environment. Prices are reasonable and the oysters during happy hour (half priced) are the way to go. The restaurant has an odd system where you order, then sit, then pay on the honor system at the end. It seems to work, but knowing this on the way in may make you more comfortable. Worth a stop for those looking to New Orleans style oysters and seafood.

Best damn seafood in texas

By Angela A |

Juicy and flavorful! Sitting outdoors is the way to go, parking line was a bit intimidating but got in quickly and served fast! Go in place your order and find a seat. We had fried oysters and the summer for 2 plate! amazing, everything was juicy and melt in your mouth. Didn't know fried food could do that... 😊will return

Great relaxed spot for grub

By Gumdrop09 |

Went here for happy hour and really enjoyed the chill atmosphere, perfect location (across from the granada), and super affordable menu!

Great oysters. These folks have been the Oyster Champions in Dallas for a long time and will be for a long time more

GREAT food

By Kim C |

laid back, delicious, folksy, I will be back! fried shrimp and catfish are awesome

Alaskan king crab fresh and cooked perfectly $18/lb!

By Janie H |

Casual place with outdoor seating with awesome king crab. Honor system payment. This is so much cheaper than buying it at the grocery store and it is great! They serve it with or without cayenne with drawn butter. Fresh lemon available. Can't be beat. I saw lots of boiled shrimp too but I'm a king crab lover.

The Best Catfish in DFW

By Akalliecat |

My brother and my two sons ate at AW Shucks in Dallas a week ago and I ordered the combo basket with fried catfish and shrimp and we ordered a Shrimp Salad and shared that. I have eaten at a lot of restaurants that serve catfish and I can honestly say that their catfish was the best I have had so far. The shrimp was pretty good too. We also enjoyed the shrimp salad which was very fresh tasting. It had shrimp with celery and green onions, tomatoes and avocado slices and was served with a horseradish/ranch dressing. My brother and older son ordered the fried oysters and they both said that they were awesome and cooked just right. I don't eat oysters, so I just took their word on that one. It is a small place and most of the seating is outdoors with a few bar stools inside. It was pretty hot outside and even though they had misters outside to help cool you off, we were thankful that there were a few stools left inside. I knew that this place must be really good as from the moment we walked in, there was a line and people just kept on coming! It was even an off time, between lunch and dinner. I will be going back again for sure and I would highly recommend this place to anyone who likes seafood.

Great food and atmosphere

By Kayla B |

I've been to Aw Shucks several times and have never been disappointed. The prices are a little high but normal in the context of seafood, which is always pricier. The environment is great. Very relaxed and in a fun location. The food is always great and they have great crab and oysters. Overall, whenever I'm in Dallas and want seafood, I usually come here.

Great Seafood

By 5016DAH |

Great hole in the wall type restaurant with good fresh seafood. Not expensive and great food. Cold Beer and good seafood in a casual fun atmosphere.

give yourself plenty of time

By j j |

Service is slow, otherwise good..I went to the brunch, great food, but they kept running out of things, even plates!

Tasty shellfish in a really cool place.

By MPD |

Finger licking good shellfish served simply. No gimmicks, just awesome food is a really cool setting with super cold beer. Perfect.

One of our favorite places!

By MEVV |

The food is amazing, especially the shrimp cocktail. The seafood is fresh. The atmosphere is casual.

Shrimp cocktail is to die for!

By Aesthi |

Get the crab special for two and 2 of the shrimp cocktail (which is actually more like a tomatoes ceviche with huge chunks of pico and avocado). Freaking amazing! Makes for a messy but fun date night!!

Quit going a long time ago

By Jane S |

I'll be honest with you. I don't know how they stay in business. Mediocre food and poor service mixed with a lack of cleanliness. However, they are very popular, so I must be missing something. Tell me if you find out what.

Best fried shrip

By WhiteAsian |

Enjoyed the Lewisville location. Friendly staff, great prices, delicious food! They have an outside patio and we enjoyed dinner outside. The hush puppies were so good!

OK - This is the location in Richardson - Consistently Good & They Trust You to Pay!

By Chris M |

We live out of state now but visit our kids here in Richardson and whenever we're here I have the shrimp cocktail. We went today and for the first time had the fried calamari, also very good. The fish tacos, oysters etc., are also consistently good. And, still they're custom (like the Greenville location which I went to first), they trust that you'll state what you ate and pay at the counter.

Take a load off

By mizzdiane |

This place has AMAZING fish tacos...AND cheap margaritas that get the job done. Which one do I come most often for? That depends. During Lent it's for the fish tacos. Every other month of the year it's for the margaritas!

Great seafoods

By Mitchell L |

Wonderful find - inexpensive- fresh and casual dining - we ate outdoors with agree at view of Greenville ,it won't disappoint

Try it you'll love it

By Jodsons3 |

If you like the so called 'hole in the wall' places that have character you'll love this place. The food is really really good. Fried and steamed seafood, some grilled fish, rice, veggies, large cut french fries yum. Also, a shrimp cocktail that I love! Its eclectic. you order your food and its written on the counter in marker, you pick up your food at the counter when your name is called. you sit at a small counter inside or outside at picnic tables that are covered. a roll of paper towels on the table.. when you leave you tell the only cashier what you ate and she rings it up, you pay and leave! how awesome is this! the food is good, you're in an older part of town if you go at night there are patio bars and music being played all around you. Its a neat place to eat and visit on greenville avenue in dallas.

Great spot for great seafood and cold beer.

By Jessica S |

The fish isn't greasy fried fish like so many places...it is fried in a cornmeal which is delish! The shrimp cocktail is my favorite with lots of avocado and ask for it spicy! Oysters are always tasty, too. We always have a great relaxing time when we choose Aw Shucks. Parking is crazy but worth it.

Can't believe it!

By Jean B |

I used to eat here all the time when I lived in Dallas 30+ years ago. Absolutely nothing has changed about the quality of the food! Also, it's still an honor system place...you say what you ate as you are leaving and pay for it (Yes, I noticed a few small efforts to keep track on the part of the staff, but gosh, who wouldn't in this day and age?). The only change, if my memory is correct, is that the outside used to have oyster shells on the ground, not a concrete slab. Oh well...did not compromise the freshness of the fantabulous oysters on the half shell, nor the icy cold of the bottled beers!

First visit-the food was great

By cherlyn_burton |

We found this place on trip advisor and tried it. I have to say the food was really great. The shrimp cocktail was as good as promised by the other reviewers and the portions are very generous. The atmosphere is very low key-think kind of like a walk up order Sonic. The food was not delivered real quick and the table service is non-existent. The majority of the seating is outside and is wooden picnic tables and very worn in bar stools. The prices are not high, but considering the type of restaurant they are not exactly low either. The parking is terrible, we had a really hard time find a place to park.

Best crawfish!

By Sheree W |

This place has the absolute best crawfish in town! My husband and I have been coming here for a couple years during crawfish season. The shrimp cocktail is great too and so are the catfish filets. Parking is not so easy. We usually park on one of the nearby residential streets and walk over. I recommend that you find a table to sit at before you order if you go on the weekends.

Always Good!

By perudallas |

Have been going to this little dive for the past 25 years, and the only thing that has changed is that they took out the shells from the floor of the side seating area; everything else has remained in tact and as good as ever! We always get the hot boiled shrimp, catfish basket, and/ or wings which are awesome. It is the last place in town to use the honor system, meaning you order/ consume, then tell cashier what you had. This a very non-pretencious place so be ready to get your hands dirty and dig in....enjoy!

High hopes

By Lisa K |

For a restaurant who claims to be the "best seafood in Dallas", I left disappointed. The coconut shrimp was pretty good, but the crab cake left something to be desired. We never should have ordered a shrimp cocktail within memory of the one we ate in Houston which was definitely something to write home about. I probably won't come back to this place. There has to be something better in dfw to eat.

yummy fish tacos

yummy fish tacos

You go for the food not the decor

By Ray C |

OK, your car may be broken into but leave stuff in plain sight & that can happen anywhere. Line up & order your food, grab a table and sip a drink while waiting to enjoy your monies worth. The crevice I usually order us enough fir 2 meals. Leave & pay with the honor system & you'll feel a lot better about yourself & life in general

Fresh seafood at a reasonable price

By NYPanda888 |

Aw Shucks is just what you would expect from a seafood shack, has the vibe of a place right by the beach, serving fresh seafood on a big plate. I had the Shucks platter for two, which included 1 lb of crab (I got a mix of Dungeness and Snow crab), shrimp, sausage and corn and potatoes). Everything was delicious, although I would've preferred it without the seasoning which has a bit of spicy kick. Good value and great meal.

Great seafood cooked and raw

By thed3 |

Aw Shucks is another one of those places that I can't stay away from. I love oysters and they have the best. You can mix your own red sauce and make it as hot as you want. The crowd I was with had everything imaginable: crab legs; shrimp; shrimp cocktail; fried filet, oysters and shrimp. What a feast. This is the second "Shucks" I have eaten at and it is as good as the other. Amazingly, in this day and age, check out is on the honor system. I can highly recommend Aw Shucks. Try it !

SO SO DELICIOUS

By Shoshana W |

Stopped in on my most recent trip and was so happy I did. In a one week period I ate here twice. From the recommendation of another customer, my friend and I split a dozen oysters on the halfshell, and the summer platter for 2. The platter consists of a pounds of spicy boiled shrimp, a pound of king crab legs, potatoes, corn, and sausage. Upon the first bite I was in heaven. We didn't leave anything behind. The shrimp was so expertly seasoned that it was hard to keep your hands off. The crab was sweet and came with a side of melted butter that only enhanced it's wonder, and the other items complimented everything perfectly. I wish I had one of these restaurants local to me!

Dozens and dozens of oysters on the half shell. Feed me shellfish!

Lower Greenville at its best

By AllyandBob |

This is one of my favorite places to go on a beautiful weekend afternoon. The shrimp cocktail is great and fresh and the boiled shrimp are the biggest I have found in the Dallas area. The honor system way of paying is interesting and is a hassle-free way of doing things. I don't normally eat anything fried, but their catfish and french fries are a downfall for me.

Casual and good

By 617erinc |

Nothing fancy but who needs it when you can relax and have fresh well prepared seafood. Many things are fried but I've never had anything "greasy". Love the broiled oysters!

A fun kind of Chaos with Great Seafood

By jim6918 |

This place can be very intimidating for a non-local or newcomer, but brave the chaos and step inside anyway because the food is really very good. I don’t know how to describe the place except that it is a shack inside some kind of tent structure with table scattered around. We happened to go on a Sunday night around 6 PM and the place was packed. We tried to sit at a table after ordering but were beat out at every attempt by people who were quicker than us. We ended up sitting inside on stools at a narrow metal counter, and you know what, that was perfectly ok. It is a great people watching place for sure. Only after we left did we discover that there is a bigger location a little bit North that might have worked out better to sit in. There’s always next time. We had a couple of dozen excellent oysters on the half shell, one of the grilled shrimp plates, an order of fish tacos and the best Ceviche nachos I think I have ever had. The beer was ice cold. I love the racks of make your own condiments scattered around the place and tons of paper towel rolls for the delicious mess. You order at a counter, give your name and they call out as the dishes come out, in no particular order, I might add. I really wanted to try a few other items off the menu but was way too full. I would like to go back on another less busy occasion when I can sit, eat, order more, eat more, drink beer; well you get the idea. You don’t get any kind of check, but just tell the cashier what you ordered on your way out. I am sure it works great for them.

Pretty Good

By Elizabeth F |

Very good food just avoid in cold weather seems to not have central heating. Shrimp are big and crab legs are delicious.

Fun experience

By Gretchen Ruth |

Had a great meal and a great time at Aw Shucks. Love how it is so unstructured ... You walk in the door and just ask around about how things work, I.e., find your own table (luckily a nice couple invited us to join them); order food at the kitchen counter, but don't pay or even get a receipt listing your order; get your beer from the cashier who has it in coolers behind her, and all you do is give her your name; and then you wait to hear your name called over all the commotion when your food is ready. I loved that I was "person who ordered the dozen oysters and medium shrimp cocktail - we didn't get your name". The shrimp cocktail I had was overflowing the beer mug it was served in and was the best I've ever had. It comes with avocado and cilantro. I drove back to the hotel thinking about how good it was and could I possibly get another shrimp cocktail before leaving Dallas. My husband's oysters-on-the-half-shell were great. Our fried shrimp were just average, but the fries were plentiful. Fun and unusual place. If you are intimidated by winging it, including reciting everything you consumed to the cashier on your way out the door (it truly is an honor system), this is not the place for you. It is exactly the king of place I love and always look for. Thrilled that we found it.

Basic seafood

By Carter R |

basic fried seafood - good portions - good margaritas - must have key lime pie. The ceviche and shrimp cocktails seem very popular. I was not over impressed by the shrimp cocktail the last time I was there. The Lewisville location is conveniently located on IH-35 near the Corporate exit.

Down home chill place

The best seafood..fried catfish, shrimp, boiled shrimp, crab legs, fresh oysters and the BEST original shrimp cocktail like no where else! Love this place....like a backyard family room!

Yummy seafood shack

Delicious seafood in a casual outdoor seafood shack setting. We enjoyed the perfectly seasoned boiled crawfish, yummy hush puppies, soft shelled crabs, and the delicious shrimp cocktail. A repeat visit is in our future

Good Seafood and cold beer

Good food, love the shrimp cocktails (they come in beer mugs) and full of shrimp, with avacodo chunks mmmm good. the crab cakes are very good, and are nice portions. The wife and I have never had a bad meal here.

Crawfish Done Right

By Alwaystraveling4work |

They say crawfish has to make your nose run and I won't say more than at Aw Shucks crawfish is done right! Very beachy relaxed atmosphere. You go inside and order and then pick a pic knick table outside or sit on a bar stool inside. You pay on your way out. Credit cards accepted. I had fresh oysters and crawfish and left absolutely happy! Oh and have I mentioned the Mango Margarita? Yum. Simple concept eatery with the largest po-boys and freshest seafood. Family friendly and good for any relaxed occasion. I cannot wait to return!

BEST crab in Texas!

By Jami C |

I went to Aw Shucks to get some crab. I found them online when I searched for places to get crab by my motel (Market Center). I saw the menu online and the prices were reasonable, so we gave it a try. It’s a little hole in the wall type place, with no parking available to speak of, but the food and service totally redeems its somewhat shabby appearance. My husband I both ordered dungeness crab, while my daughter ordered coconut shrimp and crab cakes. The crab was PERFECTLY cooked. Came right out of the shell with very minimal fuss. The coconut shrimp were HUGE and yummy with orange marmalade sauce. One word of caution - They cook everything on the "Boil" Menu in the same water which has cayenne pepper in it. I am allergic to cayenne pepper and didn't know there was cayenne pepper in the water, and I ordered corn and potatoes as a side. I took one bite of the corn and was on fire and couldn't breathe. We asked the manager Dianna about it, because I ordered not spicy specifically. She was so apologetic and took a huge discount off my meal since I couldn't eat the sides. The meal was amazing though in spite of the spicy corn/potatoes. I will definitely return for the best crab in Texas!

The best Shrimp Cocktail

By tweez99 |

Great food, and one of the few resteraunts that goes on the honor system. Meaning you don't get a check you tell the girl at the front what you ate and then pay. It's sister resteraunt BIG Shucks on the same street has better parking and more available seating and is just as good. It's a "must do" in dallas.

Great bargain in Big D

By mudfoot |

Solid seafood with lots of options. The fried catfish is among the best I've had. They have a friendly staff and almost qualify as fast food, even though everything is made to order. There are generally seasonal specials. The beer prices during happy hour are a bargain. Payment is on the honor system, so when dining with a group of four or more, it can become a hassle to remember everything you ate, but it is nice to find an establishment that trusts its patrons.

Excellent Mexican Shrimp Cocktails!!!

By BriMarie01 |

My husband's family and I have frequented this Oyster bar for the past 3 years. The funny thing is, we don't go there for oysters. We go there for the Mexican Shrimp Cocktails. Of all the shrimp cocktails I have ever tried, this place has the best recipe by far! I would recommend it to anyone who wants to enjoy a nice afternoon with the family in a casual environment that offers outside seating. Oh yeah, and don't forget the Tecate and crawfish when they are in season! :o)

No Shucks south of 20

By Shelia K |

I love all the Awshucks and Big Shucks restaurants, I am just so angry they have not put one close to south of 20!None of the following cities have a Shucks and it's a shame and this is my reason for a low score: Lancaster, Desoto, Cedar Hill, Duncanville, Grand Prairie or even Arlington!

I've had crawfish in New Orleans and Lafayette and i can honestly say that the crawfish here is the best i've ever had.

A wide variety of Seafood

By c3a3m3 |

If you want seafood, this is the place to go on Greenville Avenue. Good food and service to enjoy these tasty treats.

Good food and great prices

By Don R |

Stopped into Aw Shucks after a concert at the Granada Theater and the oysters are fresh and excellent. We also ordered hush puppies and French fries. Great food and good prices with a really nice atmosphere.

What a great place to eat

By Traveleronthecheap |

I had a bad experience in Panama City and had to come back to Aw Shucks to renew my faith in fried oysters. They are nice people and they serve great food every time. The fried oysters ere piled high and there were so many wonderful fries I could not eat them all. Do be careful on the fried oysters because they are so hot the juices will burn your mouth if not careful. I also like having the ketchup and fresh horseradish and hot sauce so can make your own. Great. They also make a great shrimp cocktail, your choice of spicy or mild. Great place.

Yummy!

By doublereeder2 |

The shrimp salad is my favorite - spicy and plentiful. Very casual atmosphere, good food, reasonable prices.

Fun time and good food

By cclakeman |

Been driving by this place for years and was my first time to stop and dine. The food was very, very good. The shrimp cocktail was to die for! Reminded me of spots down near the coast in Louisiana and south Texas. Can't wait to go back for some more catfish and shrimp. We all enjoyed it and had a great time.

WeStill Love This Place

By texaswillie |

It's very informal. You have to order for yourself and many times you will have to pick up your own food. We keep going back for the shrimp basket which almost always contains 6 medium large shrimp. The shrimp is cooked just right and he fries are always generously served. Unless it is oyster season I don;'t order the oysters as in the past they have been very small.

Scary scene, dark and won't walk in again.

By Justin G |

I will only say that when I walked in, it was dark (very), the patrons at the bar were people I would expect to run into at a rural truck stop in Texas. The food was just average. The atmosphere was biker/ roudy/ disruptive. Won't go back.

Gumbo galore!

By james h |

My wife and I have been going to this restaurant for more than twenty years. We returned to town on a vacation and made it one of our first stops. Gumbo is still good, our kids always go for shrimp cocktails, and even though I don't normally go for deep fried, their catfish baskets are very nice, including the fries.

New Orleans?

By fitzmary |

Noisey. But great poor boy sandwiches. Extremely casual. Good prices.

Gulf Raw Oysters

By GREEKMBA |

This is a great Dallas landmark with consistently quality food and a lovely location and ambiance. I highly recomend this restaurant for Gulf Raw Oysters.

Not as good as it use to be

By Chrystal G |

It’s a hit or miss with this place. Sometimes the food is spectacular and sometimes it’s hard and tasteless. My husband got some crawfish and it wasn’t to his liking. I ordered the catfish and it was very good. We will be coming back though!

Awsome. Hot mess.lol.

By tonyandlynndi |

Food is great. Very busy. Hard to find a table. Grabbed a beer. Ordered. Fast service. Shrimp cocktail. Great ordered spicy. It's located in a great area.

Love it!

By foxgardener |

Not fancy but perfect. Valet park for tips. Easy order yourself. They bring to table. You pay on way out telling cashier what you had. Shrimp cocktail a must. We also loved fried catfish, shrimp & oysters.

A happy memory revisited.

By Lucky J |

My wife loved this place when she was a kid and 35 years later it still has great food at reasonable prices. Oysters were fresh and catfish po'boy was amazing. This was my first time but it is high on my list when we come back to Dallas.

It was different..

By kingbethany |

It was different than anywhere I'd been before.. Not sure I'd want to go back. The shrimp was excellent and the fish tacos came with a lot of extras to make it extra tasty but... It was a hot, humid rainy day and even though you sit outside (it was a covered patio) the smell of the raw fish was just overwhelming. First you walk inside past the patios on each side of the building, order your meal, then go outside and wait for them to bring it to you. The prices are decent for what you get. You sit on wood patio benches on a semi busy residential street. You get to mix your own cocktail sauce which I found to be interesting! All in all it was a different experience that I'll likely never experience again.

Great seafood at a great price

By Nightstalker50 |

Great seafood but it gets crowded, if you want a little more room to spread out, go to big shucks on mockingbird, same great food just a bigger location.

Great fried seafood!

By XLR8ER |

There's no place better in Dallas for fried shrimp, catfish or oysters! The place is small and gets packed on the weekends so get there a little early. I love the "honor system" when paying...just let them know what you had and they ring it up.

Great!

By 2FoxMomma |

This location has a cool atmosphere. It's just a shack with picnic tables! There's a bucket with paper towels and sauces. It's fun and relaxed! We got the summer platters with 1/2 lb crab legs, 1/2 lb shrimp and 1/2 lb sausage. It was really good! Everything was fresh and tasted great! You get to make your own cocktail sauce - so you can add as much or as little horseradish as you like. That was cool. Note: They do sprinkle cayenne on it so if you are sensitive to heat you might ask them to leave it off. (Or for the kids - we should have left it off). Tip: take your own wet wipes! They had some but not at the tables. We didn't find them til we paid and were leaving. Only negative I'll say was the parking at this location - not much. Thankfully we went on a week day at lunch when the other businesses around weren't busy so we parked a block away and walked. I can't imagine trying to park and get in on a weekend!

Great outdoor seafood

By Jeff |

Good happy hour prices, fresh seafood (oysters) and the shrimp cocktail is great. Don't let the exterior fool you, this place has fresh seafood at great prices, we walk up to it all the time in the summer.

Aw man, great food but those many flies

By janets_granddaughter |

Casual Sunday lunch sitting with family on a wooden porch, eating with your hands and large iced drinks. Variety of seafood and filling sides.. all part of foodie heaven! Self service and informal atmosphere was just right for us. What you see in the pix left 5 of us totally stuffed and we were hungry, that's 3 adults and 2 little girls. But those many flies took the shine off, I'm from the tropics so flies near food equals filth. Not sure I'll return in a hurry unless they install fly killers or something to reduce if not remove that problem.

Great food on the cheap

By vandymom15 |

I have eaten at Aw Shucks many times. You order your food at the window, sit outside at picnic tables and wait for your name to be called. The fried catfish is my favorite, along with a very tasty gumbo and the wonderful shrimp cocktail. The shrimp cocktail is served in a large beer mug, with lots of little shrimp, chunks of avocado, and you can order it spicy or mild. I like spice, but the spicy is a little much for my taste. This location is the most casual, and because of the prices it is usually quite busy. You are on the honor system and as you leave you tell the cashier what you had. I have seen many people order a lot of food and beers and then lie about what they had. I think they are crazy to use this system, but it's their loss.

Food

By Linda M |

I was here today 4/3/2020. Ordered the 8 piece shrimp dinner and the 1 fillet and 4 shrimp. Potatoes and corn, strawberry margaritas. Paid 41 bucks. The food was horrible, the hush puppies was doughy inside, the fish and shrimp was grainy, the corn and potatoes tasted like they came out a bucket of water no season at all. The drink tasted like straight lime juice. The price was good is all I can say. I will never eat there again. Was not worth it.

great food, very cool system

By Eddie C |

We enjoyed the food allot. The shrimp cocktail was actually full of shrimp. Food was delicious. Very nice service and cool atmosphere. The honor system they use is very original and cool. Definitely coming back.

Mrs. Lue Kuehn

By Lue K |

Food was made quickly, served hot & very tasty. Both my husband and I enjoyed it. Pretty good price too.

Cheap Seafood

By Snowmanpez |

You get what you pay for here - low quality fried seafood in takeout type setting.

Usually great, let down today

By greggtex |

Calimari and oysters, small serving sizes. Service good, but let down with portions. Taste was good thankfully.

Always great bang for the buck

By Ray C |

You don’t come here for the decor although it is distinctive in it’s simplicity What has locals coming back, many daily is the quality & consistency of the food. Always fresh, always made to order and always great value for your dollar.

seafood

By Doris C |

wow great crab legs, I go every friday. the best location is on greenville, but you better get there early, it's always packed, there is another location up the street that's very big and their new location in Lewisville the food is good at all locations

Hit all the right spots

By Jamie M |

My Dad had been craving seafood for some time, we did online search and Aw Shucks kept showing up. Tried it out. It was wonderful. Hubby got catfish, dad got oysters and crawfish, I got the summer mix, and we shared a shrimp cocktail. Prices were good. We now want to visit all their places.

Great food, best bang for buck seafood I've been to.

By LakaEsther |

Me and my wife went late around their closing time and the host said it was not a problem. Overall very warm and welcoming place.

Old time dive with atmosphere and good food

By ShariH662 |

We went at lunch during the week. It was crowded but all moved quickly. Order takers were plentiful and turned around our food immediately. Impressive! We sat outside and boy was it hot. They had fans/misters running which was not really that comfortable. The flys were the worse. Outside seating fills fast. Inside in a/c, are multiple bar stools facing the wall and windows. No one seemed to mind and were concentrating on the food. I had coconut shrimp which I won't get again. Too much breading and not enough shrimp.I also had a fish fillet which was the best I ever had! Breading so light and fried crisp. French fries were large and not by favorite, but plentiful!. My husband had fried oysters and loved them. The outside area is covered with a tent or tarp. The tables are picnic tables. Paper towel and condiments in a bucket on the table. Did not have cocktail sauce but did have tarter sauce which was excellent. The only "red" was ketchup. They did have fresh horseradish so you could make your own cocktail sauce. Their are two locations. This one is across from Snuffer's so people watching is a past time. They do have a happy hour from 3:30 till 6 :30. Mostly Margaritas and beer.

omg!

By Letsgomets05 |

Nothing fancy about the place, but i am all about the food! Excellent shrimp cocktail, id definitely go back again! We went here on Good Friday, the place was packed. But, well worth the wait. Friendly service, no waitress service. You order at the counter and wait for your name to be called!

I love this place a lot...

By Andrew S |

I love this place a lot. There gumbo is so amazing. to bad it's so far.

Fresh and Delicious

By Rambron |

So good. Real deal crawfish and some of the best hush puppies I've ever had. Gumbo was also very good. You pay at the end using the honor system, which is different and refreshing. Servers bring your food but you make all orders, even drinks, at the counter. I'd suggest washing your hands before you get here though. The bathrooms are pretty rough.

Casual, informal seafood at it's best.

By thed3 |

If you love oysters on the half shell, fried cat fish, shrimp, oysters, fries and hush puppies you will love Aw Shucks. We go mostly for the oysters on the half shell but can't pass up the catfish and clam chowder. If you are in the area and you want a quick filling meal and you like sea food, this is the place.

Fried to perfection

By Beebster 2021 |

Had fried oysters and they were` fried just right. Not a lot of atmosphere but if you want some` good fried fish thats not greasy this is the place to go. Set up is a little weird, but I was guided through the process. Benches are not comfortable. Glad we wen early for lunch since by 12:05 it was packed!

Oysters on the half shell

By Pebbles2020 |

Great oysters at an awesome price. The fried catfish and shrimp basket meal is great too. They use the honor system when you pay at the end of your meal so be sure to remember what you ordered.

Good time, bland food

By wick1979 |

Had everything fried. Was not a fan of the flavorless corn meal breading. Fries were very good. I don't know if you can complain but ordered a jumbo came with a pile of cooked shrimp on top, ordered the shrimp cocktail was in more of a tomato broth served medium, but was definately not a normal cocktail. We did not finish the soup nor the cocktail. Neither was bad, but neither where that good either. Did enough the quick service bar, not having to wait on a waitress to stop by to get drinks. Overall was a good time, but the food could use some work. Will give it another shot and go for grilled and raw this time.

Shucks wish i could have eat more!

By mclpz2004 |

Food and service was great for the price. you can't beat that. better then Joe's crab. parking is a little hard but thay do have people to help with your car. it gets packed so u do have to wait for a table. over all love it.

Get the shrimp!

By Angela G |

Get the shrimp cocktail. It's been my favorite for 15 years... Everything is good, though. Yummy! Make your own cocktail sauce. Decent margaritas.

Great spot for casual food

By Nartableware |

Loved the shrimp boil, crawfish and Ceviche.... But noticed the people who know this spot all had the shrimp cocktail They have many locations and very similar names big / aw etc

Amazing seafood!

By saraheT922KB |

I grew up in Louisiana, so I know fabulous seafood when I taste it. Aw Shucks (all their locations) far surpasses any other in the DFW area! If you are craving fried shrimp or a decadent oyster po boy...then this is the place for you!

Beer and shrimp...need I say more?

By Skeenka |

Good seafood, ice cold beer, funky outdoor tables and benches. This place is always hoping! Recommended for some honest seafood served al fresco.

Good Seafood Eats

By DeepBlueDives |

The location right on the bustling Greenville Avenue, the place, simple and good. A small inside counter only area exists where you order, and more seating outside that wraps around with small picnic tables. Self service to pick up your food, and handle any items that aren't sitting on the tables. Staff is friendly and efficient. This place can get crowded quickly and is a tight space to navigate around. I would of rated 5 stars if it was cleaner. We moved tables twice due to residue left behind after the last patrons. Honor system works at keeping the flow moving.

Good food, good fun.

By Sally5450 |

For the past 12 years, Aw Shucks has been the go to place/dive for really good food and always a great place to watch people, drink beer, and chow down on oysters, shrimp, crap, crawfish, etc.... The one on Greenville Ave., is the best, but also the smallest. If Greenville is a zoo, try the one just a short ways away on Mockingbird -- same great food, just more room to spread out. It's one of those places you just don't want to miss when you come to Dallas. We've had many a dinner there for work groups and always take visitors there at least once. It's nothing fancy -- picnic tables, bar seating, and paper towels for napkins -- but that's part of its charm.

Amazing!

By kappirushing |

This was our favorite meal on our long weekend in Dallas! Crab was perfect, shrimp was delicious and oysters were some of the best we’ve ever had! Atmosphere was unique and staff was super nice! Will for sure catch them next time we are out West!
