This is a hidden jewel, the food and the staff were amazing! Enjoyed the tribute to Celia Cruz, hence the name of the place.

Today I visited the Carribean just down the street from The Alamo. What an experience! Azucar Nuevo Latino Restaurant is one of the brightest gems in San Antonio. Its located in the restored section of near-downtown transformed into the trendy Southtown area just a few blocks south from the historic landmark. The flavors are magical and sure to transport you instantly to the tropical Carribean islands steeped in centuries of different foods and flavors introduced by seafaring voyagers from around the world. Your journey begins the moment you step into Azucar decorated with the eclectic colors of the islands and accented by original artwork celebrating Celia Cruz, the woman who's powerful voice and memorable singing of, "Azucar!" make her music immortal. The atmosphere is airy and informal, yet very tasteful and bathed in natural light coming in through massive windows overlooking the boulevard outside. The menu is easy to navigate with an ample but not overloaded selection of wonderful dishes including seafood, beef, pork and vegetarian. I chose the black bean soup as an appetizer and requested it be served piping hot. It came out perfect! Steaming, saucy, topped with chicharron bite-size chips and slivers of queso blanco. Its the best black bean soup I've ever enjoyed! Especially delicious is the hint of spicy kick in every spoonful. It certainly raises your palette's heat setting but oh, so enjoyable. Complimenting the soup is a serving of homemade, sweet corn bread with tender kernels of corn mixed in. The contrasting flavors are amazing. I found myself looking towards the kitchen for a second helping, which luckily didn't come. I then ordered the Shrimp Infierno, which literally means, Hell Shrip but let me tell you, in this case Hades is heavenly. At the center of this incredible dish is a pile of aromatic, delicately spiced rice under a stack of julienne cut vegetables, sauteed to perfection. The center is surrounded by a ring of juicy, steamed shrimp bursting with flavor and placed in a brothy, brown sauce reminiscent of the great Cajun-French gumbo dishes, yet uniquely Azucar. Its truly special when you know you're enjoying a dish prepared by a Chef who delights in creating a masterpiece out of every item on the menu. The portion are generous but now gluttonous and leaves you comfortably satisfied. The staff is very very helpful, highly attentive and knowledgeable. All in all, one of the best spots for lunch in a wonderful city.

Chose this place on Open Table as it was fairly near our hotel and the menu looked interesting but that is where the fun stopped! Our server Roy seemed a little weird when he sat us down, he gave us water after a while and took our drinks order but then seemed to forget us. After about 20 minutes we got our drinks and he took our food order. It was an hour before we got our food in an empty restaurant that was closing. When I went to pay the bill he disappeared with my card, after a long period he appeared again and when I asked to settle he brought me a different bill and seemed to have lost my card. Luckily another waiter found my card and I settled up with no tip. I think Roy was stoned and deserved the sack

This review is based on Azuca's Friday & Saturday night live band/dancing starting at 10p. I've only had the food when this place was a different restaurant. My dance partner & I dance up to three-four times a week (salsa, bachata, merengue, & cumbia) & this place is quaint. Pros: small audience, intimate, & less of a party crowd. Cons: floor is sticky (hard to spin on), hot (kitchen puts off a lot of heat though it closes down at 10p), & because it's so small if they're too many dancers it's difficult to find dancing space. Overall, the band is very good and this is a fun place with good lighting. If you're avoiding the weekend club scene this is a fun place to dance.

This restaurant was one of our 'paid' dinners on a bus tour. This was a very nice restaurant. The management tried very hard to get 50 people seated & served in 1 1/2 hrs. We had four course dinner. The star was the mixed grill-small tenderloin, grilled shrimp and lollipop lamb chops. There was enough food for two people for dinner. We ran out of time and the staff set up plates of deserts for people to taste and take on the bus. I would love to return for a leisurely dinner!

This is a nice, quaint place not far from the beaten path. Lots of uniquely latin (not Tex-Mex) choices on the menu. The mojito pitcher is a hit with a large table of friends.

After being seated it took ~15 minutes before someone came to take our order and brought water. The food came out quick with the drinks and the Mofongo Borinquen appetizer (very delicious) first. For entrees we ordered: 1) Chilean Sea Bass and 2) Grilled Octopus. Presentation was impressive and taste was amazing. We decided to try the Tres Leches dessert and it was the best I've had. We worked off our meal dancing to the music in the adjoining bar / club with ONE bartender (fast service, as in the restaurant, was not their strength)! Highly recommend this restaurant - just allow plenty of time...

I love this place for Happy Hour. The prices are excellent and the drinks are fantastic, especially the Mojitos. The only drawback is that they're perpetually understaffed. They've got a great bartender, but if they get a few people in there, there's no way he can keep up. I have no idea why they don't hire more staff. Customers end up waiting a long time to get served. I sit at the bar to make sure I get stuff. The Happy Hour menu is good, too.

I must thank a waitress on the river walk for recommend that I try out their happy hour. Carlos made me the best monitors on special $3.50 a drink!!!!!! Then went fir dinner with my wife she ordered vegetable pasta I ordered sea bass best meal in San Antonio by far, did I say the mojito were awesome. Looking forward to going back soon.

I have reviewed this restaurant in the past. Visited again when I was in town again for training. Continues to impress. Excellent food, atmosphere, and service. A must visit if you are in San Antonio.

Phenomenal food, personal service highly recommended as it is one of the few places in that area with excellent food at a reasonable price.

My husband and I shared a mixed appetizers plate and all on it was just yummy. My husband had a steak for entree and I had a meal with veggies, scallops and shrimps which I only can recommend! And the dessert was a dream, a milk cake with two different fruit sauces. Service was great, too.

Food was taste was excellent! The service was one of the worst of my life Only one nice young woman named Stella taking care of 20 tables. She did a OUTSTANDING JOB! This is ridiculous, the owner needs to take care of this before the restaurant starts going south Honestly, I had good experiences before here. It is not my first time. They were better Definitely, this Saturday lunch time you can see the lack of planning. We'll come back to see

Went there with my husband and kids and I must say it was a wonderful experience, the food was amazing and the restaurant itself was really accommodating would definitely recommend.

We had dinner in their patio and it was very nice. The service was good. We asked Norma, our server that we wanted an unrushed dinner and she made sure the pace was good. The grilled octopus was really good. Best of the night was the Fruit Gratin dessert.

Stopped by Azuca Nuevo Latina to get some drinks on a Friday night while visiting San Antonio. When we walked in it was a a bit awkward as we were just wanting drinks and they still had a few people eating dinner. I seemed like they weren’t sure what to do since we were wanting to sit outside, so they brought us to a patio looking table with lots of leaves all over it. I assume this is the table used for people not having dinner there. We each had 2 mojitos and they were super delicious. Not cheap at all, but much better priced than drinks on the river walk. I hear later at night this place turns into more of a bar scene and would be interested to check out the vibe then.

Every trip to SAT I am sure I visit Azuca. Incredible Latin food and drink. Amazing happy hour. I have never been disappointed here!

I am not from SA but have been to this restaurant before a couple of times. Tonight was completely different. The waitress was a all over the place. We were given stale tostones to which she told us they were from another table that didn't want them (wait...what?) exactly. Then the mojito was horrible. After waiting an hour yes and HOUR with no water by the way she comes to our table with one salmon plate. We didn't order salmon... Also we still haven't received our ceviche appetizer but at this point I figured why bother to tell her. She goes to the chef, whom by the way is the owner, and they begin to have an argument. I was sitting by the window at the store front and the kitchen is in the back. I could here him screaming and arguing about the salmon plate back and forth with waitress. Then he began to slam things and seemed super frustrated about a mishap over the waitress asking him to make the wrong thing... Um... Don't air out your dirty laundry... Just make the correct plate and handle that later. No priorities. At this point we paid for our 2 horrible drinks and the stale tostones and left. I told the waitress why we were leaving and instead of her being apologetic, she justifies it saying "oh he is always like that it's no big deal"... (I am dumbfounded) Then the owner Calls me to apologize stating that is not the norm. After reading other reviews dating back to 2012 others wrote things about his behavior as well and he responded to their reviews. Which lets me know he is aware of his behavior and has NO plans on changing them. Poor business management, no professionalism, lack of properly trained staff and the list goes on...

Azuca's Barbecue Grilled Salmon was perfection. Beautiful to look at, and tasted even better. There are a nice variety of delicious drinks- Some common & others unique. Happy Hour Mojitos for only $3.50 were spot-on & definitely a Win on price. Check it out when you get a chance!

Had dinner here with my wife and son. Saturday early dinner was a great time as it was not crowded. Seating is either inside or out on the patio. With the beautiful late afternoons in San Antonio you have to take advantage of the weather and sit on the patio. The service was excellent. The menu is filled with drinks and food selections to satisfy any palate. I had a Texas Mojito, my wife had a Coco (similar to a Pina Coloda) and my son had the Sangria. Appetizers are plentiful and could serve as dinner. The entrees are well prepared and plentiful. I was disappointed with the Pork Belly since it was mostly a bowl of red beans in sauce with a strip of caramelized pork belly. I would have liked more meat with the dish but it was still tasty. There is a separate bar area for drinks and dancing. Entertainment is provided on the weekends and Friday nights the place is packed. Definitely a place to check out for good Puerto Rican and Latin food and atmosphere!

Went with co-workers for lunch. Parking is very limited, so good luck. We all ordered something different and all I know is everyone enjoyed their meal. The complimentary cornbread app is delicious! I look forward to going back and trying everything on their diverse menu.

This restaurant is near some of the other attractions such as La Villita, the King William district and the Tower. We had the Cubano sandwich which was big enough for us to share. It was very nicely done and absolutely delicious. The restaurant has both inside and outside seating and even was offering salsa lessons that evening in the separate bar area. The waiter was very helpful and made some great food suggestions.

We are new to the San Antonio/ South Town area and have been exploring new restaurants each weekend. This by far was the best food and service we’ve received. Everything from appetizers, dinner, dessert and cocktails was done with flavor, care, and the plating was perfect. We will definitely go again

From the outside, it looks like a little dive, but the food is very good, the atmosphere peaceful, and the service excellent. It was a great relief to get outstanding cornbread in place of the endless chips and salsa!

Just had the best salad of my life tonight! A Peruvian salad with quinoa and greens and a nice tender slab of medium cooked blackened tuna. The best spices on a blackened food I've ever had! Great service Charming historic location and building. Highly recommend!

The bar/restaurant has THE best happy hour. There is an extensive selection of mojitos and other cocktails available for only $3.50. It's an absolutely bargain. The food is also delicious. Give it a try!

This is a go to place for business. Lunches are interesting and reasonably priced at lunch. Hands down the best happy hour for food and drinks in the area. I had the iceberg salad with shrimp. Normally I don't like this type of lettuce, but this is not your typical wedge.

Azuca is a short walk from the convention center, the River Walk or several of the hotels. There is a nice indoor area for dining, but while I saw an outdoor dining area on the side, I didn't see an additional, covered seating area out back (with propane patio heaters, etc.). I wish that we had sat out there. Portions are good sized. The fresh fruit creme brulee was superb.

We knew they were in trouble when they have restaurant.com gift certificates, but did not know how bad it was, This place used to be great, but obviously the kitchen is not paying attention to the food and the wait staff does not believe in waiting on you.

The food was fabulous...no complaints! Fish was perfectly cooked...the street tacos were flavorful... The atmosphere was charming...service great. Will be back! :)

First time eating Caribbean food. Everything was good. Tortilla soup was a little bland Nice atmosphere and friendly service. Awesome mojitos.

My friend and I went for a girls night out based on the recommendation of one of her coworkers, and it turned out to be a perfect evening. Super quiet for a Thursday evening... Everything about our meal...the drinks, appetizer, entrees and dessert...was delicious. It was also all very reasonably priced especially considering the portion size. We both had plenty of leftovers, so we could save room for dessert. It’s a small restaurant that takes reservations, and a place I would not only return to but would highly recommend to someone looking to try something new.

Chef Rene and his staff are great as suggesting dishes if you can't decide. Everything I've had has been great.

We visited on a very busy night. The place was packed by the time we finished. From the dining area you can see the cooks making the food. Although our food sat on the counter waiting for the last plate to be prepared before it was all served to us, it was still surprisingly served hot. The manager told us he'd remake it or drop it from our bill, but there was no need. The food was terrific. The margaritas were good too! Water-glass sized margaritas were just $8. The beef steak Churrasco was perfectly cooked and tender. It had delicious chimichurri on it. The Parrallida Mixta was excellent with beef, chicken, pork, and lots of chimichurri. My daughter said she would have liked the Shrimp Moqueca (curry) to have been spicy, but she didn't ask for it that way. We couldn't get espresso after dinner because a live band made the espresso machine inaccessible to the staff. Note: the old location was larger. The background music (even before the band arrived) was too loud. My son-in-law asked them to turn it down, and they did, but then they almost immediately turned it up loud again.

Walking to our vehicle after watching USA soccer at Bar America we stepped into this place for dinner. So glad we did cuz the food was amazing! I had the Ropa Vieja with a Mojito. My wife had the Tuna Aquachile. The complimentary cornbread, is the BEST we've ever had. We finished it off with some Chocolate Truffles as our Happy Ending. So Good! The ambience is cozy and relaxed.

SUPERB! Returned to San Antonio for 40th anniversary to one of our favorite restaurants. Fun& relaxing atmosphere. Exotic tropical bar selections. We experimented with the delicious& unique choices of Mojito’s and Sangrias before dinner. Our attentive & friendly waiter brought us appetizers we inquired about that was not even on the menu, fried yuca. Dinner was tasty w/fresh herbs and vegetables to supplement delicious traditional and modern Latin meat & seafood options. Had Chilean Sea Bass & Feijoada do Rio Pork Shank w/grilled Caribbean vegetables & black beans/rice. Great presentation. Tropical Fruit Gratin & the Dessert Sampler great choices to top off a lovely evening. Live music & salsa dancing not currently available (COVID-19) yet still enjoyed great Latin music as we dined. Patio dining was available, but selected indoor seating (well separated for social distancing). Staff made it a perfect and memorable evening! Vielka & Jeff......

Good selection on menu, and looked like all prepared well. Mine was excellent! Good and comprehensive bar. Walking distance from downtown/Riverwalk.

Outstanding food, nice music & artwork as well!!! Great South American cuisine, the drinks were good and got really good service!!! Definitely would come back.

Found food was awesome if you want something different but somewhat American/mexican, Bar atmosphere is great with appetizers offered, night live music fantastic

The kids loved the Island Hotcakes & Foster Toast... we loved the brunch and mimosas (Steak Churrasco & Cuba Libre are great!). All the staff is very friendly and attentive! Great food! We've visited for date night in the past as well! Great ambiance and the food was amazing! Definitely going back!

We were looking for really good food after some time at riverwalk establishments. The menu at Azuca is interesting, quite different from typical Tex-Mex. The food was delicious, and the staff was great. They managed to make minor changes so that almost the entire menu was available gluten-free. Thanks to them!

As we were in San Antonio, and I had a certificate for Azuca's, we tried it with our friends who live here. She had heard of it yet not eaten there. Where else would I have tried, and enjoyed, "Pork Belly: - a fine experience with some foods I would have not otherwise eaten. Our waiter was helpful. I wish there had bee some music playing; otherwise, fantastic. And, by the way, the bar is next doo (close, 4 steps) and the Latino dancing lessons were inspiring. Food was by it's name, not by its location, so I apologize for that below.

Food was good. Wait staff was not as warm as I would have expected, but after we ordered - service was better.

We will not be back after witnessing two employees fighting during Dinner service. We used to come here for the food but the food and service had taken a turn for the worst. We often still come for dancing and drinks but never again for dinner.

There was nothing not to like, except for the very limited parking-which is expected in Southtown. The food was delicious and flavorful, beautifully plated. Salsa music playing and vibrant artwork add to the ambiance. A range of mojitos is available to choose from. Great couples and grown-up spot.

Our party of 3 (2 adults, 1 teen) ate here for lunch after visiting Garcia Art Glass Studio a few doors down. The Latin food was excellent, the service was attentive, and the "vibe" was great. Be sure and get the cornbread!

We went here on a Saturday night for dinner and drinks. The mojitos are excellent and the dinner is to die for. From the appetizers to the dessert everything was excellent. Our waitress, Carmen, was outstanding. We got the meat platter and goat cheese salad. Both were very well done. They are known for their mojitos, and they don't disappoint! Be sure to save room for the truffles for dessert! They are homemade and there are none better! We will definitely be back! If you eat nowhere else in San Antonio, be sure to eat at Azuca!

one of the best restaurants i have ever eaten in, atmosphere perfect, service superb, the food was just perfection. I would recommenced anyone to go to this restaurant. Can't recommend it highly enough

The atmosphere was nice and some (but not all) of the food was good, but the service was a serious disappointment. We will not go back, unless to the bar at happy hour for tostones (perfectly served, hot with mojo de ajo). That was the highlight of the food experience. The seabass (recommended by server as one of their specialties) had a very nice crust but was otherwise bland. The octopus dinner (also recommended) was not good. There were as many pieces of octopus that were unacceptably chewy as there were those that were edible. On the bright side what could be eaten was quite tasty. I imagine that octopus is not an easy to prepare, but it just should not be that difficult to eat. Unfortunately the octopus was completely smothered in raw red onion, of which I obviously ate only a little. The server expressed surprise at the excessive amount of onion that i was served when he took the plate away at the end of the meal. Bringing us to the service: there was no one to greet or seat us for three or four minutes. The cook, who saw us standing at the entrance of the dining room was on his way to look for the host/server who was over at the bar. Not that I was counting then, but that was strike one. He later brought the wrong drink, and did not offer to bring the one i ordered, rather he suggested that i try it and if i didn't like it he'd get me what i ordered. OK, so i tried to like it but it wasn't what i wanted, so when he finally came back i let him know but it seemed like it took way too long to finally bring my pisco sour. There were no patrons in the dining room when we arrived, however, by the time our appetizers were served (ahi tuna tartar, which was good, and tostones), two other parties had been seated, had their drinks, had ordered their meals and were enjoying their appetizers. In the meantime we were waiting for an opportunity to return the drink and were waiting for our appetizers. They finally arrived (generous portions, by the way). But the meal then took an unusually long time to serve as well. In the end they get two stars for the food that did taste good and the atmosphere, but I'm afraid we won't be back, based mostly on the service. There are other dishes I would have liked to try, but I'll find another way to satisfy my cravings for Caribbean food.

Found this restaurant randomly via an online search and decided to visit it during a planned visit to the area, Well, my visit was fantastic !! Carlos, our server was very accomodating and friendly. The margaritas were tasty. The tostones were plentiful. We shared servings of Mofongo, Beef Steak Churrasco and the dinner Paella . All were delicious !!!! The corn bread was outstanding too. Looking forward to my next visit.

Upon the recommendation of a local artist in La Vallita, my husband and I ventured over to Azuca. It was a short walk, 1 block tops from the village/Riverwalk. (Near the tower, too.) I only wish we had known of it sooner! I just can't say enough about the service and the food! We love good food and it is not a meal we will soon forget. I had the paella, my husband had the trio. We both had the fresh guacamole appetizer. Divine. The best tuna I've ever tasted. The hibiscus strawberry daiquiri was the best drink I've ever had, too. Portions can look small in pictures, but we can admittedly put away some food and we couldn't finish this off. We actually heard another tourist exclaim "sweet Jesus" and another say "thank you God for this food!" during their meal. I know how they were feeling, too! It was that good. If you're really looking for a meal that will rock your world, you can't miss this place. I also heard there a couple other restaurants in this vicinity you don't want to miss (Italian, etc.) We ran out of time.

The food was delicious! The service was excellent & the staff were very friendly & accommodating. The desserts were out of this world!

Cozy place to go to eat with family or friends, highly recommended for the Cuban community and lovers of our culture The elaboration of delicious and exquisite food left us wanting to return we recommend the Churrasco de Beef or the Grill. The super special attention of all your workers. Recommended 100%.

Most amazing food. Delicious mojitos. Ceviche and shrimp were delicious. Seafood curry was the best we have ever eaten. Loaded with every type of seafood and the coconut broth was amazing. Ropa and pasta were incredible. Too stuffed for dessert so we will definitely be returning when in the future. Prices were very reasonable especially for a family. Sat on the patio because we had our dog- loved that it was dog friendly. Very eclectic ambiance. Wait staff very attentive. Great music!!

The food was good but not as excellent as I expected. Be clear as to how spicy the food you are ordering will be served. Reservations are a good idea.

1 Star because we didn’t even get to the food or the drinks during happy hour fiesta week. No waiter for 15 minutes. Seriously??? The place wasn’t even busy, only one table taken indoors so the ‘dinner’ patrons were not the problem. Less than half of the patio tables were taken. The busboy did come by twice but no waiter. So we went inside to the bar. Another 5-8 minutes... nothing. So we left.

Restaurant advertised that it will be spanish music playing. Went we went there had a private function and music was not playing, server was slow. So we left after waiting for someone to come a clean our table

Great Latin food- a mix of Puerto Rican, Cuban, Veracruz-an :) I enjoyed the Parillada Mixta, but BEWARE you'll be charged $5 to "split" a plate (While ordering, my group and I weren't notified there would be a fee, so it was definitely a surprise during checkout time... make sure to read the fine print on the menu!). The live band was great, but also wanted to charge us a cover fee even though we had dined here... I have heard great things about this place and therefore wanted to visit. Even though I have mixed feelings about this first visit, I'm interested in trying it out again.

Been here about 6 times since I moved to San Antonio area 2.5 yrs ago. Awesome food and service every time. Ambiance is warm, eclectic and welcoming. Food is top notch full of flavor and flare with lots of seafood options (not a fried food place, real fresh stuff here!). After first time I came here, I now bring long term San Antonians because it is truly a hidden gem. I'd say this should be on your list!!!

Food with a spicy flare. Be careful if you have a sensitive palate! I had a BBQ chicken salad, but even the lettuce was spicy. Prices were a bit more than expected.

Went here just before closing, on a whim. My biggest regret is that we had eaten a large late lunch, so we were unable to do justice to the delicious food on the menu. My other regret is that we don’t live in the area, so we cannot easily return. Azuca specializes in Mojitos, my Very Berry was perfect, and my husband said his red Sangria was the best he’s ever had. Warm just-out-of-the-oven cornbread with butter was a superb starter, and the Beef Steak Churrasco which he ordered was cooked perfectly. I loved my Spiced Chicken and Spinach salad, regret #3 is that I was way too full to try a dessert. We also appreciated the graciousness of our server, and the restaurant’s adherence to Covid 19 safety procedures. Just go!!

We stumbled upon this restaurant from the recommendation of a local near by. It was off the beaten path and we almost gave up finding it. It has nice decor and not too big. The waiter/manager/owner??? was great and gave us good recommendations. I had the Cuban sandwich with curly fries which was delicious and too much to eat. It had think slices of ham etc. and was toasted. My husband had some kind of beef Latin stew... he LOVED it. I think he would consider it his best meal on our trip. He tried to order it elsewhere unsuccessfully. If you are near La Lavillita (?) walk a little further away from town and you will see it on the right. If you go o San Antonio you need to eat here here!

I’ve been coming here for years and it never disappoints. Every time we drive from georgetown to San Antonio, we make sure and stop to have dinner here. The food is innovative and delicious, I can’t compare their cuisine to anything else, the portions are big and the prices low for the amazing cuisine that is served. My only complaint is that Georgetown doesn’t have an Azuca.

I stopped here for dinner mostly based off the reviews and thought it would be cool to try a more unusual cuisine. Service was fine throughout, though not exceptional. The Sopa de Tortilla was very nicely made and had an even amount of seasoning. The chicken was cooked solidly. My main issue was that it was served at a sort of lukewarm temperature. The mahi mahi was surprisingly good and the coconut-tomato sauce paired with the fish well (I was expecting it to be possibly a bit overtly sweet). The Ahi Tuna was cooked well and I really liked the sauce in particular but the portion size was quite small. The Ropa Vieja was, to me, the best dish I ordered: the beef was cooked perfectly and flavourful. The vegetable accompaniments and rice and beans were all excellently made and rounded out the dish nicely. For the portion sizes, I did believe it was a bit expensive, the main reason I didn't give 5 bubbles.

Great atmosphere, wonderful food and presentation. Tons of leftovers. First quality experience. Loved the 23 dollar assorted appetizer. Was a meal in itself. Salad with salmon added was a winner, as was the mixed seafood. Even cornbread as complimentary touch was a loaf and one of best ever. Cannot say enough good about this place. Walked to from north of riverwalk easily.

My husband and I spent our 1st anniversary here 11 years ago and spent our 11th anniversary there this weekend! The people are still amazing and so sweet, the food is out of this world, and the atmosphere is anything you want it to be. We ordered the sampler appetizer (your tastebuds will dance), the tropical mahi mahi plate and parillada...everything was amazing! The prickle pear margarita and mango mojito were our "happy endings." We will be back!

We went there last night for drinks and everyone from the bartender, servers, and a man who I believe was the manager, was super friendly. Their patio was very charming, and it was heated on a chilly night. We went back today and sat indide the restaurant. The ambience and the music (and the volume of the music) were perfect. Not too loud, so we could have a conversation. The cook was cooking and singing. It was so pleasant. Later in the night he came to check on us personally. The food was delicious and the presentation was beautiful. And again, our server was awesome.

The location is tucked onto a small street at the edge of The city proper. The food was fresh, perfect temp and service was prompt. The ceviche was ice cold and spicy without destroying the palate. The shrimp Diablo with dirty rice was a great balance between spicy and rich. I’ve never had coconut flan, but this was amazing as well. Highly recommend.

Azucar is Spanish for sugar and the catch word for the late, great Celia Cruz, the salsa chanteuse loved all over the world. The eatery has several portraits of her and other art on the walls. The kitchen is open to the dining room. My friend and I dined at early dinnertime on a Saturday. It was not crowded. I ordered for both of us, being a fan of Caribbean Latin fare. Before the ropa vieja arrived, a warm basket of cornbread and butter was served. Very tasty! The main course was swimming in a pool of very well-seasoned (not spicy hot) tomato based light sauce and came with black beans & rice and sweet plantain pieces (maduros). It was all very good and the service was attentive but not intrusive. We did not have room for dessert. With all the Mexican places in town, this is different cuisine and nicely done.

A local suggested we try Azuca Nuevo Latino Restaurant. We did and it proved to be a great recommendation. We sat with a pitcher of sangria while sharing a few courses. I’m passing along the recommendation.

I have been here twice with friends I have been here twice with friends and both times I have been disappointed. The restaurant moved next door from the previous location I had tried and I went ahead with the group I was with on their recommendation. We all enjoyed the drinks and appetizers but there were mixed reactions to the main courses. Assuming their branding as Latin cuisine I order the Paella and was very disappointed. I would describe the dish served to me as Soupy Rice with some Seafood mixed in. Out of the 7 in our party it was split down the middle with good and not so good comments on the food. I will not go back for a third try at dinner.

I've read some good reviews, so I decided to go with my boyfriend for a nice dinner. The waiter, Roy, was a big disappointment. I told him I had already decided what we will order from their website, he them tells me that several of the items are no longer available. He was very cold and uncaring. So, I had to decide on something quite different. Why have a website if you do not have current information about menu items on it? After we received our food, he maybe came by once. He left us alone, never cleared any of the empty dishes crowding our tiny little table nor did he care to show any interest in our dining experience. Their food is not cheap. I might expect this kind of service at a chain burger place, but not here. The food was okay, but was ruined by the service we received. They also automatically add a 18% gratuity. There were only 2 of us at our table. I see now why he didn't care about the type of service he provided, being they automatically add the tip to their checks. I will never go back, nor recommend it to anyone else!!!

Went to Azuca with fellow conference attendees all of whom had been to the restaurant previously - as we had 10 years previously. The layout has recently changed, but the food remains excellent and unique. The restaurant is a bit of a walk from downtown hotels, but well worth it.

Wow! Excellent service and delicious food! We got the plantains appetizer and the guacamole appetizer. Both excellent! Black bean soup wonderful! Salads (quinoa and Cesar) both great! Our group had the pasta with shrimp, sea bass, seafood curry, and seafood paella! The only advice would be to be careful with the dishes that have clams because some of the clam shells broke in the dish...so small pieces of clam shells that we discovered as we were chewing. So just be careful. But delicious and we would definitely return! My husband really enjoyed his mojito and sangria!

At their beginning they had great food and music. The mofongo is not even worth trying. It is made with plantain shavings...terrible texture. They downsized the restaurant, but not the prices. Parking is terrible and they now added a cover charge when a band is playing. It used to be very crowded and tight at the older and roomier establishment. Now they have way less room and charge at the door.

My husband had been to this restaurant about 13 years ago and was so impressed he had to take me there. The mojitos were amazing! So many choices. We tried mango, very berry and cucumber lime. Each one was perfect! Along with mojitos, we had a number of appetizers. The brussel sprouts were incredible! The fish cerviche was very flavorful, but there was not a lot of fish in it. The fish tacos were good, once you got to the fish. They were served with way too much lettuce as filler. The main appetizer we went for, the garlic fried plantains. They were dry and overcooked, served in a puddle of butter. On to dinner. My husband ordered a Seafood curry and I ordered Chilean Sea Bass. The seafood curry was mediocre at best. They used chinese crawfish and very tiny shrimp. A few clams were scattered in and mussels. They only flavor was the strong coconut curry. The chilean sea bass was undercooked. The pecan rice it was served with was very good, but the sea bass was one of the most expensive items on the menu and I couldn't eat it. When we called the owner over to discuss, all he did was offer us dessert. Very disappointing experience overall.

We loved this Restaurant. The location, atmosphere, food, service, and price were all excellent. All 4 of us enjoyed our meals and the happy hour Caipirinhas. The Tropical Fruit Bralee was a favorite. We all fought for the last scoop.

We had the guacamole appetizer, which was flavorful and well presented. The jerk chicken was fabulous. Great test, perfectly cooked. The rice was also well done and the grilled vegetable were clearly fresh. I would highly recommend visiting this restaurant. Value also a plus.

The sweet cornbread they serve with a creamy butter is so comforting. My husband had a Trio dish with ahi tuna, filet, and shrimp (he thoroughly enjoyed it) .... I had a seafood curry plate that included mussels, oysters, salmon, scallops, shrimp, yucca, red peppers....sooooo good. This place serves Latin dishes that are hard to find - once I can lose 5 pounds I'm going to try the paella!

Food was really good. Had chicken with chipotle pasta and daughter had salmon. Ate some guac as an appetizer which was also great. The only problem was they were apparently very short staffed so our waiter was also bartending. So the service wasn't super great.

We decided to venture away from the Riverwalk enjoyed a delicious Latin inspired dinner. The guacamole was one of the best we have ever had. The portions were very nice sized and the flavors were splendid. Latin music really added to the atmosphere.

We stumbled across this restaurant and enjoyed it so much we went back two nights later . Delicious food beautifully presented. The trout and the tuna dishes were outstanding. Don’t let the road works put you off . Step away from the Riverwalk for a treat

Great family owned restaurant. Friendly and good service. The salads, beef churrasco and Tres Leches were delicious! Margs and mojitos were good as well. Great HH appetizers and drinks at the bar or patio.

Azuca is a quick walk from the convention center and River Walk. It offers indoor and outdoor seating and most of all delicious food. There is a variety of foods with lovely spices and flavors. For 6 of us we had a salad appetizer platter and 4 mains- with a lot left over. The Mango Mojitos were amazing. The prices were very reasonable- with 2 pitchers of mojitos and all of the food it was only about $40 per person. We highly suggest it.

My wife and I visited there for the first time and our host, Norma, was so fun to talk to about the restaurant and area. The food was delicious and proportions were very good. We’ll be back again!

In San Antonio for a few days visit. Tried this restaurant because my travel company is Puerto Rican. Getting there was a little difficult because of ongoing construction and we were walking, but it was so worth it. We tried the mofongo and it was fantastic. Delicious with crispy chicharones. The guacamole was excellent and plenty for two people. We split all the dishes and it was plenty for two on everything. The mango mojito was refreshing and so smooth and good. We also split the paella which was absolutely delicious and plenty for two. Do not leave San Antonio without trying this place. The service was great; the server did an excellent job. It’s our last night here l; otherwise we would be back tomorrow

One of the great spots in South town. Latin/Caribbean cuisine in a great atmosphere. Owners are always in house, working the floor and the kitchen. Highly recommended.

Dinner was perfection. We had the special Valentine's menu, which did not skimp on anything. Leisurely dinner with just the right amount of attention from the waitstaff. Azuca is close to the Riverwalk. You'll need to walk off your dinner!

cebiche, yucca, and tostones are horrible and the drinks are not what they should be! we sent everything back! came with friends who recommended it and even they were disappointed and will nor be back

This used to be one of my favorite restaurants downtown. However, on our recent visit to the restaurant, the food was not of the same quality as it used to be. My wife ordered a salad that was supposed to be made with Bibb Lettuce, but they substituted it with cheap iceberg lettuce. The salad substantially smaller than it used to be as well. My wife then ordered a different salad. That salad never showed up and I finished my meal. We never got the cornbread the waiter offered or a refill on our ice teas. The servers seemed overwhelmed when only 50% of the table were occupied, maybe a waiter called in sick, but nonetheless, it was not a good experience The bathroom was dusty and dirty and not very inviting. In the end, it was a very disappointing visit and we cannot recommend this restaurant to anybody. Southtown San Antonio now has too many good places to pick from. It is very sad to see a good restaurant go down the tubes and not elevate its game.

Sorry to say that I am disappointed with the new Azuca location. The venue is probably better for the owners with less space and up-to-date facilities. This is a good thing. The problem is that coming after work, the kitchen is right in the dining area. While I love the food Azuca has and I love the happy hour prices, the smell of the food stays forever in my hair and clothes. If this is not an issue for you then I highly recommend Azuca for the happy hour!

I love that it is small, intimate and friendly. The bar is great and the food even better. I came back a year from my first review and am very excited that the food is still fantastic. If you are in the area and are looking for good food away from the Riverwalk, this is the place.

We ate what the waiter recommended, a shredded beef dish with black beans and rice, fried plantains and toast. It was absolutely delicious! The dessert was shared by 3, the flan with fruit that was then caramelized and served with ice cream. Holy Cow! It would have served 4, easily, and was a huge hit at our table. The decor is beautiful with the blown glass lights and the paintings. Well worth the little hike when we were exhausted. Get off the Riverwalk and go eat here!

This is a must stop restaurant if you like atmosphere, excellent upscale Latino inspired menu with an excellent staff. The Shrimp Diablo was over the top and my recommendation. The mojito was very good and don't leave without trying the cornbread. This was a business trip for me but some pace you can share for special occasions! Nice job Azuca! Chuck Evans

Their food is exquicite and i was lucky enough to come visit on a Salsa night. They offered a live band and while the place itsef is Cozy we had a great time.

We had a wonderful meal. The mojitos were awesome - flavorful & not too sweet. Highly recommend the paella and the grilled octopus. The sampler app platter was also delicious. The service was outstanding. We are already talking about going back!

Definitely a great place to enjoy delicious food with friends and family. Gracias Danny for your great service!

Service is extremely slow. Waited 20 minutes no server approached us! Everyone there was pissy that they were busy??? Oh by the way they were almost completely empty! Really bad management. The busboy noticed and tried several times to get our waiter twice but no luck. There were two other tables with the same problem but the ordered and had to cancel their orders!

From appetizers through dessert food & service were excellent! Outdoor sitting area was spacious. Highly recommend.

If you are near downtown, this is a great little lunch spot. The owners and staff are very friendly and you won't find such wonderful and we'll presented food at such reasonable prices anywhere else in San Antonio. After our first visit I have now returned 8 times! It's that good. Also, the cornbread they bring in the beginning is sublime... the fish dishes are served with sauces that have a kick to them. One day the owner suggested a bowl of their corn chowder and it was the very best I have ever had.. The restaurant is eclectic with the kitchen and Chefs visible to diners. The waiters have been well trained and attentive in each visit. My favorite dish so far has been he blackened Tilapia. Portions are just perfect for me but not huge. It's healthy stuff and you leave feeling that way, not stuffed & miserable.

Stopped here with a party of seven on a Thursday night. We've eaten at several small restaurants in the area that I thought were amazing. This restaurant beats them in every category. Atmosphere was fabulous. Small, local, great art work. Bar and kitchen are right in the main dining area. They are so amazing to watch. They have an entire menu of mojitos that looked incredible. We had a pitcher of their original. WOW! Best mojito we'd ever had. From appetizers (guacamole and plantains) to the desert, every dish was full of flavor and absolutely delicious. The corn bread was the little thing that put this meal over the top. It was almost like cake with a bit of red pepper. Wow! Highly recommend!!

Stopped in for some desserts they were amazing couple of drinks service was great love the decor would definitely recommend the menu looks great will come back here for dinner sometime

We slipped into an inviting, vine covered alley to find a small terrace of tables beside the dining room to Azuca. Our server was friendly, sharing what she loved about San Antonio and the restaurant's menu. She was right, the Amarillos were delicious and the Queso was much more than just cheese and chips. The atmosphere, tasty variety of food and location will bring me back here time and time again. I'm glad the food trucks one block North weren't open when I was in that part of the city that day.

Our friends go here every time they come so we wanted to try it. We were pleasantly surprised. The atmosphere is great. The Mojitos are wonderful and the food is good. The staff was friendly and the service was great.

We enjoyed the service, but the food was just okay. Spouse had the mixed grill, I had the Brazilian black beans with pork. Both were just okay. The best part of the meal was the plantain "tostones". They were authentic.

Great service! Great culture! Food was unique and delicious! We all had a great time, enjoyed each others company and the great food!

I've been to this restaurant a couple of times, once as a large group of 20+ & recently as a group of 4. While I liked the food, the service left me unimpressed on both occasions. I can understand orders being delayed on a busy Friday afternoon and with large groups, but my recent visit was on a dull Monday afternoon and the service was equally bad. They just take ages to serve the Order. That said – I’d still recommend the place for its varied menu. It’s different from the usual Tex-Mex that a host of restaurants San Antonio specialize in.

We walked by here early in the week and it smelled amazing so we came back another night for dinner. The food was Caribbean/central American influenced and offered a nice change from the Mexican and steakhouse predominance in the area. Our meals were very tasty, portions were generous, and service was very good. Spice levels were not overdone . A nice place to explore some Latin flavors.

The appetizer sampler was incredible! Margaritas delish! The best dinner we had in San Antonio!! The sauces and seasonings were so flavorful we practically licked the plate!

We are visiting in town from Kentucky! My wife was searching for a unique place !! We found it !!!! Azuca Sabor Latino !!!! One of a kind !! Rene was so friendly and welcoming when we entered ! The food !! Wow. Tortilla soup, great salad, mahi-mahi, and the big meat platter - at reasonable price. Not just a meal - an experience !!!

Came with a party of six friends from work visiting San Antonio for a conference. This place was a bit off the beaten tourist/Riverwalk path which was appealing to us! Great menu-who knew that there could be so many kinds of mojitos and so many great ways to reinvent Latin food? We all loved our meals and the experience. Beautiful original artwork all through the restaurant added to its charm.

Guacamole started off a great visit. Definitely order this. I had the pork chops with veggies and roasted potatoes. Pork chops were normal. Nothing special. The veggies and potatoes were cooked fantastic. Lots of flavor. I even ate my co-workers veggies because they were so good.

This is a quaint restaurant with unbelievable authentic tasting dishes. My wife and daughter were no less than unenthused to be going to a Latino restaurant rather than Mexican. By the end of our meal, she said that she would happily eat the same meal every day! I had the sampler platter (shrimp, chorizo sausage, guacamole, homemade chips, jerk chicken). She had the beef and chicken. Everything was fantastic. They even brought out some homemade authentic cornbread while we waited - and it was worth it! We will be going back!

Very personal and friendly service. Outstanding food and the best Latin atmosphere by far. Chef/Owner Rene Fernandez and his wife Norma are running this place with a passion - and it shows!

Quiet, romantic date night. Its not on the riverwalk but the atmosphere is beautiful and romantic inside. Not a large menu, but enough to pick from. Great food and drinks

I had a date night with my wife. The service and food were fantastic and delicious. The atmosphere with the live latin music added the romantic flavor to make our date fantastic. The other quest were friendly and respectful. They have dancing after dinner hours. Great bar and drinks to accommodate the dancing with their terrific DJ.

The food is very good and the atmosphere is lively and fun. My wife and I enjoyed our visit, including the salsa lessons on Saturday afternoon. The grilled trout was excellent but the turkey tenderloins were a bit dry.

Azuca Nuevo Latino Restaurant goes well beyond in several categories to include a creative menu, excellent offerings, superb service and a fantastic atmosphere. Our group of five started off with the Ceviche and "real" Mojitos, not the type typically served at chain restaurants. Two orders of Paella, Guava Glazed Tuna, two orders of beautifully prepared chicken dish. Everyone raved about their choices. GREAT FOOD and DRINKS, reasonably priced. Our server did not skip a beat and at one point the owner stopped by to check in with us. What's more is the art displayed throughout the restaurant. The beautiful black/white photographs were photographed by Hank Arriazola, world renowned traveler and the paintings by Abraham, FANTASTIC. Both are local artists who's works can be spotted in various venues throughout the city. All in all a great place to meet friends or take that someone special if your intent is to impress and enjoy a fantastic meal. Thank you Azuca Nuevo for a wonderful evening.

Recommended to us by a Mexican leather artisan at La Villita, Azuca features cuisines from all over Latin America and the Caribbean. It's delicious and is presented with panache. On the walls is lovely glass art from a neighboring studio. A wonderful dining experience.

I love the lunch. The corn bread is like a heavenly dessert...and that's just the start. The meals are decorative and delicious. It is under-staffed, but well worth the wait. They move the tables on Friday and Saturday nights and offer one of the only quality salsa dancing spots in San Antonio.

We only went here as a second option , as we had gone to another restaurant but the music was too loud. We have been on a long six week holiday in America, so we have experienced a lot of restaurant food. The salmon my wife had, and the shrimp and scallops I had, were some of the tastiest and well presented dinners we have experienced to date. We really hope that this establishment gets the long term success it deserves.

We walked right by it to find another place referred by a friend. That place was not as exciting, so we walked back to Azuca and it was funky and inviting. The waitress Dolores was engaging and offered some advice - so we took it. And everything we had was awesome. And the drinks from the bar were great as well

What most Americans call Mexican food has very little to do with real Mexican food; rather it is Tex/Mex. Azuca has REAL Mexican food and it is delicious. In the ever more popular South Town, the entire area is becoming "Toney" and a lot of fun. They used to have salsa bands in the building next door on weekends, which was a lot of fun, but not sure they still do that. All-in-all, a great place to go.

It has been 9 years since I last visited San Antonio. That is when I first visited Azuca, and in my view they were good and they only gotten better. We arrived for a late lunch and with a restaurant at least 75% full were very well taken care. The tostones with mojo are to die for, you need to try them. We ask for la parrillada mixta which was way more than at least us two can manage, they landed the chimichurri sauce very well on the grilled beef! If you are into this kind of food the black beans with white rice are a must. Very nice vibe with latin music playing on the background and very important, owners on the floor constantly looking out for patrons to have a great experience! I will definitively be back!

Terrible, overcooked food, margaritas without "tequila", service, no the best additional...over priced

Arrived early and parked in their lot. Since they were closed, we walked & shopped a bit. When we returned to eat, my car was gone. I went into the restaurant to thank them for towing my car and they were absolutely no help. Service gets a ZERO. Food, will never know.

Given choice of seating of in or out, beautiful night. AFTER being totally rejected by Starfish (there, tables open everywhere, in & out & at bar), Azuca embraced us as valued customers. Great food, service, drinks, atmosphere. Love it here. As I told that hostess next door, we can be quick and we are locals, nope, no consideration.

About 12 of us had dinner and drinks there. It is cozy and welcoming with distinctive artwork. The appetizers and entrees were unique and the presentation of each dish was outstanding. I had shrimp diablo and it was fantastic. Prices were very reasonable and they gave us all separate checks. Not a bad walk from the Grand Hyatt.

we were recommended this restaurant by a local. we couldnt have been more pleased with the entire experience. We got several appetizers and was delighted with everything. In the evenings on the weekends they have live music outside and Im sure it is something to see. It is next to Garcia Glass, so hit that too.

My friend and I returned to Azuca for happy hour. We loved the food and service. The happy hour menu is seven days a week from 4-7 PM. Select drinks and appetizers are $3.50. The quality is high. Don't be good by the price. The caipirinhas are great! The fish tacos rock!

Azuca Nuevo have an amazing food with reasonable price. Cerviche is one of my favorite one. The restaurant also has a bar with live music on Friday and Saturday. The live band plays salsa, and meringue.

I have been to several upscale Latin restaurants and this one is by far the very best! Delicious flavors and excellent service! I had slow cooked pork and my husband had salmon. Delicious.

This was a GREAT place to eat! The service is fantastic. (Yeah Christine) The meal presentation is beautiful! Very gormet. Corn bread is homemade, flavorful, loaf-size portion. The menu has a large variety of items. The entrance is off to the side. Interior has a nice vibe. After 5 trips to San Antonio this is my number one place to eat now!

Oh my goodness how have we never eaten here before? Azuca in Southtown is wonderful! Fresh made white and red sangria, orange guacamole, Pasta Frontera, Ropa Vieja, and Flamed Fruit Creme Brûlée. Incredible! Lovely patio, cute indoor dining, good music...it’s spectacular! Fun night out!

High quality food, great service, nice atmosphere. This place is just amazing. Not expensive. We ordered Tuna steak, Gambas al ajillo, octopus, grilled mix, ceviche and mofongo. All these dishes were very tasty. One of my friends ordered Salmon and she said that it was overcooked and the quinoa salad undercooked. But the rest of us were very happy. I really loved it. I definitely recommend this place.

We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner here. Everything was excellent and not overly expensive. We had the paella, and one order was more than enough for two people.

This place has great Latin food and a great Latin ambiance about it. I was there with my family for lunch so I didn't get to experience the live music and night ambiance but I can tell that it is just amazing just by seeing the set up and décor. Ceviche was my absolute favorite!

Warning, if you go here you will be disappointed in some way. Save yourself, there are good Italian, pizza and BBQ joints within walking distance. We walked in, and there was no one at any of the tables but a few people at the small bar at the entrance. There was ear-splitting, music playing with enough bass to knock out your fillings. We would have walked out but a lady rushed up and said the music was too loud and she would turn it down and switch to something more suitable. She seated us and turned down the music but it was still not conducive to eating. Another couple came in behind us and the man said either the music goes or he does. So they turned it down. The music problem solved, there were so many other issues. My husband ordered a glass of red wine that was spoiled, they did replace it but it should not have been served. The waitress while friendly enough, stood at our table while I decided what I wanted to drink and the same when ordering dinner. The menus were old and worn. There were two bright spots, the grilled octopus was a good dish and cooked well and they did serve a warm cornbread before the meal that was very good. I ordered the tuna steak and was disappointed because I ordered it medium and it was beyond rare and tough. I sent it back and they did fix it to the point of being edible but it ruins the experience when things have to correct stuff. The whole experience was stressful and disappointing and there is no way I can recommend going here.

I had Tamal Latino for lunch. Large portion wrapped in banana leaf the chicken was moist and tender corn and vegetable mixture was well seasoned and the tomato sauce was fresh and zesty with just a tiny sprinkling of shredded cheese. This appetizer was substantial enough for a light lunch reasonably priced at 9 50. I'm coming back for dinner as they have several delightful menu options I want to try and a rum bar with over 100 varieties of rum!

We had a delightful experience at Azuca, the best meal of our 5day trip. The dishes were a blend of very unique flavors. We were able to try the grilled octopus, Seafood Curry Latino, Gambia al Ajillo and the Seed Crusted Ahi. All 4 were amazing! Hard to say which I liked best. We also tried the Tres Leches Cake which was very flavorful. I would consider it a not-to-be-missed place.

Casual Caribbean dining. Beautiful, fresh appetizers, delicious cocktails reasonably priced. Fantastic entrees... I tried the beef sort ribs, simply delightful. A must try near downtown San Antonio!!!!

All meals come with fresh cornbread hot out of the oven. There are little pieces of corn and peppers in the sweet cornbread and it is awesome, The fish vera cruz is tasty with green olives and peppers. The spinach salad with spicy chicken is the perfect blend of heat and sweet. The chicken is spicy, but there are caramelized pecans and mangos in the salad that offset the heat. During the day, the inside appears to be a normal restaurant, but at night the inside of the restaurant becomes a dance floor. It is definitely worth checking out this little jewel.

Initially wanted to go to Rosario’s since we heard good things from friends. Well it was an hour wait, and our bellies were hungry now. We read a few reviews on this place and decided to take a walk over. We were lucky enough to get a table and we were greeted by Carlos and sat immediately. We looked over the menu that was filled with Caribbean fare and was quite enticed by the dishes. We started with the octopus mofongo that was well prepared and flavorful. I had the Parrillado Mixto that was amazing. The meats included pork chop, churrasco, flattened chicken breast and jalapeño sausage. My partner had the Beef Rib that was extremely tender, and spiced perfectly! There was no need for a knife! For dessert we have the Tropical Fruit Brûlée! A prefect ending to a great dinner. Carlos was our waiter and was quite attentive & friendly. He was the only waiter/bartender this evening and the restaurant was filled at about 60% inside. He also makes a mean mojito! If you want a great restaurant in South Town, make Azuca Nuevo Latino your place to go! ps Thanks Rosario’s for being crowded!

After a nice evening at First Friday, we were hungry and decided to try this restaurant. What a disappointment! We sat on the patio because we had our dog with us. There were only 3 tables that had customers and it took forever for waitstaff to take our order. When the drinks came (one iced tea and two frozen margaritas), one margarita was fine but the other was undrinkable. It tasted like pure tequila! The person at our table with iced tea was never offered a refill and we only saw the waitress when she took our order and when she brought the bill! We had to keep asking the person clearing tables for things we needed. Although I’ve heard good things about this restaurant, our experience was a major disappointment. Although the cornbread was good, the rest of the experience left a bad taste in our mouth.

We vacationed in San Antonio some years back and this restaurant was recommended by the hotel we stayed at. We were so impressed with the restaurant, separate bar with live entertainment, artworks...and definitely the food. The place is now a just the restaurant but it is still the same chef, artwork and food which is haut-cuisine. Well worth a visit to try.

The food was awesome and the presentation was beautiful! Nice place for a date and dancing!everyone was very friendly and happy .

The food was good and the live music wonderful: salsa, merengue, bachata and bolero. The show started at 10:00pm

We ordered four dishes to share among 2 couples and we all agreed that each dish was flavorful and beautifully presented. The portions were generous and filling. The service was friendly and prompt. This was our favorite meal in San Antonio, can’t recommend it highly enough. Wish we could come back and sample every dish. And love to experience the dancing on the weekends!

I had the appetizer sampler as dinner and would make that my choice again. Each offering on the plate was a treat to the taste buds and service was very good. I happened in while they had a group party of 70 or more in the main room and my server kept track of me and brought out a plate of yummy corn bread when he realized my order was taking a little extra time. Fun vibe and good music. I will definitely go back.

We ate in the outdoor area of this restaurant. The area was decorated very nicely. The menu was great, with lots of options from all over the Caribbean and central america. I had the grilled fish of the day which was very fresh and seasoned just right. The drink menu had a lot of options as well. I went with a standard white sangria and it was awesome.

Ive been in the past and its been great. Not the case Dec 19th. We ordered the tostones which were very dry and no garlic mojo . The main courses were just bad. The ropa vieja was tough ,but the beans and veggies were so spicy it was inedible. My wife had the Feijoada which was very tough and lacked any flavor. Her beans were also so spicy they were in edible. So, we left 3/4 of our food uneaten. The waitress ackmowledged that the beans have jalepeno sausage and had complaints of being too spicy, but offered no solution, suggestions or substitutions. The waitress was also tending to about 25 people. Bottom line. 88 bucks drown the drain and we left hungry. Too many places to dine, we wont be back.

Had a great gathering of 25 people at Azuca for my wife's birthday. Started with a open bar private party in the outside patio for one hour which was amazing with a variety of drinks and music. After that we had a sit down dinner with their very open delicious menu that people who had never been were amazed with the good selection. Their service and the quality of food was amazingly superb. At 10:00 pm we stepped next door for some live Salsa music which was impressive and everyone danced until 1:00 am. It was a very impressive party that was a huge hit as many had never been to Azucs. I highly recommend it.

Having already visited the majority of the restaurants in Southtown we decided to finally try out Azuca. Although the other restaurants in the area had decent crowds (it was 7pm) there were only two tables in Azuca, both of which looked to have been leftover there from happy hour. We'd soon find out why. Backstory: I had bought a Groupon for this place a few years back. What I love about Groupon is that even though the promotional value expires, the amount you paid for it does not. The promotional value of our Groupon had expired, effectively turning it into a $27 gift certificate. We perused the menu, which looked okay albeit pricey for the area. The service was somewhat slow but as soon as we put in our order I mentioned the Groupon. The server said that he did not believe they were "taking Groupon's anymore" (which is ridiculous, because again, the value you paid for a Groupon never expires). He went to ask his manager and then came back and informed us that they would not honor it. We asked to speak to the manager ourselves and he said that the manager was not there. Annoyed and hungry we walked out. It's a shame because Azuca in effect, stole our money by taking it and then violating the Terms & Conditions of the Groupon. I reached out to Groupon and they no longer work with Azuca. Go figure. We ended up across the street at Battalion, an award-winning restaurant with first rate service and top notch food. Avoid Azuca like the plague, the manager of the restaurant doesn't even go there and from the looks of, nobody else does.

Too many great restaurants in King William to dine at Azuca's. Coconut Shrimp was only breading, few coconut tidbits. Breading was brittle and fried too long. The beef was significantly over cooked. The creme brûlée arrived as a soup under the toasted sugar top. Inattentive service. We had to get up and find waiter three times. Why take your chances you go on an off night?

A warm & cozy "hip" bar & eatery. Combination lunches & dinners are a fusion of Cuban, Caribbean, and Latin American stylized cuisine. Desserts are sweet, and very tasty. We were a very large luncheon group = and even so, the food came to each one of us hot & the presentation per plate, unique. A fun spot for families and the late night crowd as well.

Open for lunch and dinner, but have only eaten there once for lunch. The food was interesting and quite good. The only negative was that it could have been spicier. The waitress said next time we come let them know when we order and they will amp it up. The food is beautifully served. Nice atmophere. Near Rosario's and Starfish.

Sat on the patio and were fine with the heaters. Birds stole chips out of the basket, made us laugh. Good, authentic food, not just texmex. Fish tacos were great. Great mojitos.

Had dinner here last time we were in San Antonio and had such a fantastic experience that we wanted to come back! We were not disappointed it was amazing!

Another reason to get off the Riverwalk! Located about half a mile from the Alamo/Riverwalk area -- definitely walkable from most hotels. They describe themselves as Nuevo Latino -- a variety of meat and seafood dishes seasoned, well prepared. If you like flavorful foods, you'll like Azuca. Fireballs (fritter appetizer) were hot and fresh with a little spice. Cornbread was fresh out of the oven; we've never had cornbread as good as theirs. We had Sea bass and salmon; both were done to perfection. Chocolate mousse is rich and chocolatey. Wine list offers many choices from South America and Spain, with a few good California choices. Service is friendly, dishes cooked to order, and prices very reasonable for the quality.

The food was amazing. I had the paella and my wife had the meat sampler plate. Both so goood! The service was more than friendly and attentive. We felt like family.

The food was good & unique, nothing fantastic, but kind of pricey...Central-Latin American cuisine per info on menu. The atmosphere was nice, loved the lighting. The wait person was very helpful & explained the dishes, but did not inform me that there was a charge to split a plate, which was not much, but it would be nice to be informed. For those at our table that love sea food…they truly enjoyed it.

I enjoyed a night with friends drinking mojitos, having cuban food and then we sang karaoke in the company of the friendly owners.

Menu had a number of interesting items and settled on a mixed seafood stew which was indeed delicious although did not care for potatoes in a stew with rice. Service was attentive. I was a bit miffed when the server added both an 18% tip and a 20% tip to the final bill; when brought to her attention she apologized and removed the 18% one [menu did not state that anything was automatically added to a bill].

Our 1st night in San Antonio and we picked this beautiful gem to dine. My hubby & I decided to walk from downtown San Anton to Azuca which was about 25 minutes. Good way to get connected to the city. The restaurant was festive with lots of color and beautiful artwork. We started with the Sangria which came in a lovely pitcher. Appetizers were pulpo for him & mofongo for me. Mmmmm! Main plates were the grilled meats and tuna. Needless to say, we took leftovers back to the hotel but that only meant we got to enjoy the food again! Staff was helpful and pleasant. We were asked to come back for the free live Salsa band & dancing later that night. Life is good!
Spicy Seafood, Plantains with Garlic and Mojito. Will be Back!
We stopped in for an early dinner on a Saturday. Just us at first and then it started to fill up. We had plantain fritters with mojo. It was a huge portion and really good. Then I had seafood with red curry and rice and my wife had mahi mahi with a spicy sauce. Both were wonderful. Well presented and delicious. I had a black dragon mojito which was great. My wife was less thrilled by the red sangria. Service was great. First time here and we will be back for sure.
