Tried the sushi, sashimi and yellow tail. All of it was very fresh and delicious. Finished the meal with a sampler. Very good service. Highly recommend it.

r u kidding me? Roll and Honeymoon Oyster are delicious and unfortunately, they are a little expensive too otherwise I would go there at least once a week :) Their cocktails are pretty good as well. I tried Mongo Majito and Lychee Saketini and liked them both. To be honest I wasn't impressed with their Sushi(Nigiri) as I had way better ones at different restaurants nearby so that's why I gave 4 stars (It's more like 4.5 stars). Other than that everything was great. I'll definitely go back to try other dishes.

Wow, it's tiny, but it packs a punch! Thesucshi is spectacular and the rolls are so creative. The have plenty of local and Japanese sashimi and it's all top notch, can't wait to go back!

Salads and Teriyaki chicken were not so good, but salmon rolls and dragon rolls are very tasty. Also, It isn't too expensive.

Fantastically fresh sushi, amazing Honeymoon Oysters. Service was great. It is quite possibly the best sushi I've ever had -- and I've been to Japan!

The dumplings are the best I’ve ever had. We have many favorites such as the Kobe roll, and the specialtyhandrolls. The sashimi is always fresh. Everything on their menu is superb.

We actually ordered take out for a birthday celebration and it was fast and fresh. Super yummy. Their crispy rice ahi appetizer was phenomenal! As were the over the border and sunny roll. Shiitake miso soup was soothing on a cold evening. Thanks Azuki for a special birthday dinner

I would give 1 star for the pricing and 3-4 for the food. Example, $17 for one roll that I had and this same roll would cost $9 in San Francisco and $7 in Reno Nevada where the sushi is much better. Being a mixed Asian family and eating at a LOT of sushi places regularly, we disagree with some reviews that say this is a good value or exceptional sushi. Maybe that is the case in San Diego. The sushi that 3 of us had was good, but we weren't exactly dancing on the table about it. Again, we get better sushi (all you can eat) in our home town or in San Francisco for about $25. The place is really small. I mean REALLY small and doesn't seem to hold many people. We came during off hours and only one table open. It was reasonably clean and the service for us on this night was good, but he seemed rushed. Bottom line is that I am guessing you can find a better value elsewhere in San Diego.

Although the miso soup was over salted, the sushi was terrific. Lunch was a great value. And the ambiance was very hip.

We are fairly picky about our sushi and this restaurant did not disappoint. We sat at the sushi bar and were catered to by one of the sushi chefs. It is always fun when you can interact with a sushi chef. Our sashimi special of various kinds of salmon was interesting and delicious, all explained by the chef. Next we had aji sashimi, again fresh and wonderful and beautifully presented. We asked if he could fry the bones after we finished and they did and again it was great. This is done only in sushi restaurants that really know sushi. The roll that we had was yummy with seared yellow tail on the top. All in all it was an extremely positive sushi experience.

This place is amazing. If you can get a seat at the sushi bar ask for Aki... He's the best! He's always willing to offer tips on selecting and pairing dishes. The OMG and By the Border are my personal favorites.

This restaurant is off the charts from cool decor...right out of the water freshness...inovative dishes....and impeccable service!!!! Favorites are Crispy Rice with Spicy Tuna - Honeymon Oyster with uni, Ikura, quail egg, tobiko, and Ponzu - The Salmon Sampler - The Sunshine Roll with Black Tiger Prawns, Tempura Green Onion, topped with Salmon and Avocado - the Adventurous Sampler with amazing sashimi and a decorative fish skeleton - So thrilled I found this restaurant!!!!!!!

I think I've just found my new favorite Sushi place in San Diego. I was landing back in town from a business trip and the wife was going to pick me up and we were going to go for date night. When I landed I quickly looked online for a good sushi place that took reservations and Azuki popped up and they could seat us by the time we got there. The place looked familiar and the wife and I discussed whether we had eaten there before (I was adamant that we hadn't). Anyway, we got some Asahi Beer and some hot Sake which was good. To start we got some Miso soup and some Shishito Peppers which were also very good. My favorite thing though was the "On the Border" roll. Hmmmm, what a tasty roll it was, my mouth is watering just thinking about it. My wife and I both agreed that this place was about to become our new favorite in San Diego.

Monday February 15th got a table out front. First time in San Diego. Server was excellent. Miso soup phenomenal. Sushi rolls large and fresh. Excellent value! Thanks so much !

Azuki Sushi is an elevated sushi restaurant located in Banker’s Hill by Balboa park. I visited this restaurant twice within a month and I had a great experience each time. We had an indoor reservation the first time and for the second, we only were able to snag a patio table. Try to get your reservations early so you can get a table inside because it was super cold outside (thankfully they had heaters). Also try to come earlier than your reservation time because parking can be a nightmare in that area depending on when you go. Ambiance/Service: The inside looks elevated with modern decorations and lower light. There are two levels inside. The outdoor patio gave the same vibe but it was just so cold and the tables are on a slanted hill. Service both times were great. Our servers were attentive and made sure to check up on us periodically. Food and drinks came out quickly. Food: -Crispy Rice and Spicy Tuna ($18): 4 pieces; perfect appetizer, I’d get this one again. -Karaage ($15): our waiter recommended us a different kind of karaage other than the Salt and Pepper listed on the menu. I forgot how he described it but it was delicious! He mentioned that it’s a little spicy but I didn’t notice the spice that much. Chicken was crispy. -Classic Sashimi ($38): came with 12 pieces and each piece was a good size but honestly, I wouldn’t order again. -Kobe Roll ($28): the seared A5 wagyu on top really gave it a nice flavor and texture. This is my favorite roll -r u kidding me? Roll ($28): served much differently than other rolls— in a bowl and topped with a biiggg heap of flash fried leeks. The leeks were delicious but once we got to the roll itself, it was kind of meh in my opinion. -Sunshine Roll ($22): salmon roll with avocado and salmon on top. It tasted pretty good but I didn’t like that some pieces had mostly avocado on top and others had mostly salmon. I would have appreciated that it was more even on all pieces. -Scorpion Roll ($21): loved the crispiness of tempura soft-shell crab on top. Comes with 6 large pieces. This is my 2nd favorite after Kobe. -Uni Toast ($25): only 2 pieces; uni with chopped toro, prosciutto, truffle aioli. There was so much toro on the toast that it overpowered the uni. I’d skip this one next time, as I don’t believe it was worth the price. Overall: After my two great experiences, I know that I’ll continue to come back to Azuki Sushi!

This is our favorite restaurant!!!! The best!!!! It’s a must!!!! You have to make reservations because it’s really popular. The staff is amazing and the food is to die for. Everything!!!! They have a great bartender who prepares delicious cocktails. Then we had Sake of course and many dishes because every time we want all. I am sure you will love it too!!!!

Want absolutely the freshest fish, creative and artistic preparations, attentive and friendly service, in a casual neighborhood setting? Head straight to Azuki Sushi Lounge! You won't be disappointed. The sashimi and rolls are all pleasing to the eye and palate, served on attractive stoneware. The service is well trained, knowledgeable, and happy to help with questions or suggestions when asked. The restaurant appears small, with a sushi bar and a few tables at sidewalk level, but an upstairs covered dining patio (heated when necessary) easily doubles the seating. Opt for upstairs; it's more spacious. While the prices are not the lowest in town, remember you are paying for the best fish available--and believe me, it's worth every penny!

We made a reservation as suggested. We were seated right away at the sushi bar as per request. The ambiance is very upscale for a sushi restaurant, and all the servers and chefs were super nice and on the ball. We had two sashimi plates and a "Near the Border Roll". All was super fresh, aesthetically pleasing, and wonderful tasting. Lastly the restaurant for all this being so good was reasonably priced.

Was here tonite great atmosphere, wait staff were good, really really fresh sushi the range of different options was great, worth a visit if you are in town.

Not impressive when you walk in but make a reservation on the second floor and it will surprise you. Music a little loud sometimes which hinders conversation. The sashimi and sushi rolls are all good. Best one is the Kobe beef roll, save that one for last!! Good service. Street parking only. Make a reservation!!

We stopped in without a dinner reservation on Tuesday. That was fine, but by 8 or so it looked to be reservations only. We tried their signature lobster roll and it was wonderful. Other rolls and nigiri were all tasty and wonderfully fresh. And of course it was nice o try some things that just aren't available back home. Service was just right. The atmosphere was noisy with happy diners enjoying themselves. We'll put Azuki on our list to visit every time we're in San Diego.

Really enjoyed an early dinner at Azuki after a full day at the San Diego Zoo. The Miso Blackened Cod appetizer melted in your mouth. Best ever spicy tuna roll that was soooo flavorful, and On the Border roll had a nice spice. Back patio is serene and service was very good. An excellent experience.

This place is off the beaten path a bit but worth the search. The fish is among the best in San Diego. While it is a little pricier than some of the Gas Lamp places, the fish is noticeably better. They do have a happy hour which is fairly a bargain. The quality makes up for it though, and is worth the search. Sashimi is gorgeous and the rolls are some of the best around. And I really appreciate that they get beyond the usual sushi bar beer selection of Asahi, Kirin and Sapporo. Mission IPA is a great match for rolls.

I made a reservation and when I arrived I had to wait 30 minutes outside in the cold for a table. This is the first time this ever happened to me at a restaurant (30 minute wait with a reservation) so there are no excuses for this. On top of this, the waitress was pretty bad and did not check up on us once. The only person that we interacted with that was worth anything was the bus boy; the hostess and the waitress were terrible. 1 star for the bus boy + 1 star for the food = 2 stars.

I was at Azuki last evening and now rate it as one of my favorites in SD. Service is beyond excellent and the food is fresh and tasty. Happy hour prices are very reasonable and you definitely get the quality you’re paying for.

Fresh and inventive sushi with a nice ambiance and good wines. We tried the standard sushi which included 12 pieces of tuna, salmon, albacore, and yellow tail and it was great and plenty to eat since the portions are large. We also tried the ahi poki - tuna sashimi with Hawaiian sea salt and sesame oil and it was delightful. Both were perfect with a pinot grigio. Like most sushi places, the prices are high so you may want to savor this place less frequently than maybe you would like to. I know I'll be back!

Exceptional service and Aki, my sushi chef, is incredibly talented. From the freshness of the fish to the grilled vegetables, this place absolutely nails it. Give it a try you will love their fish selections. Definitely going back for more.

Food was great but there is something amiss. I was hoping that this place would give Todokoro a run for its money but it’s not quite there yet. I strongly encourage people to try this place and see for themselves.

I came here for lunch on a weekday and sat at the counter. I ordered the nigiri plate plus the DJ mix specialty roll (I was extra hungry). Everything was very fresh and flavorful. I loved the presentation too, lots of care went into that. The ambience is great and the size of the restaurant is deceptive. It looks small but extends back. The service was also a highlight -- super friendly. I can't wait to return for dinner.

We had a fantastic dinner at Azuki. It's a small restaurant but did not feel crowded. The menu has a wide variety of sushi and cooked items and everything we had was delicious. The presentation was also beautiful, and overall this was a very enjoyable experience.

Sad to say they lost a star from me. The food is outstanding. We had a sushi roll with sliced lemon, one with king crab and a sashimi bowl and the black cod. All great dishes but the service was lacking for me. Its not very hard to be friendly. She tried to memorize our order but left out a couple things. It happens. It would have been less memorable if she was friendly. I say just write it down. The main thing my kids ordered was left out. They had just opened back up for dinner so it wasn't because she was overwhelmed from her day lol. Hopefully next time ill have have better experience.

While both my daughter and I have enjoyed many sushi restaurants, we were very excited to try this highly recommended sushi. The staff was on-point most of the night and keep the table clear and water glasses filled. Yes, the sushi is fresh and some rolls were creative...yet the prices were outrageous. Seems quite overpriced. If that is a concern, I would try elsewhere, for sure.

Take out tonight, order was ready on time, easy pick up. The fish was excellent, very fresh. The eggplant appetizer was amazingly tasty, perfectly prepared. All the rolls were delicious. Have been here many times, consistently great, one of the best sushi restaurants in SD.

I don't like salmon, but the love of risotto overpowered my dislike of the fish and I ordered the salmon risotto off of the lunch menu. The dish came with a mound of risotto topped with a small amount of sautéed onions and fresh sprouts. A creamy shiitake sauce was on top of and puddled around the plate. A rectangular piece of salmon rested off center on the rice. Not only did I eat the entire thing, but I ate the salmon before I finished the rice. SO delicious! My only possible complaint would be that the sauce was a tad bit too salty. Other members of my group ordered the nigiri plate and the braised short ribs. Nigiri plate was deemed excellent. The braised short ribs were decidedly too salty and HAD to be eaten with rice to cut the saltiness. Ultimately, the dish was left unfinished. Staff at this restaurant were wonderful. Empty dishes were promptly removed. Looked like the owner was even behind the sushi bar making sushi.

Expensive high quality food with very good service. Be prepared to spend 50-100 per person for a meal that doesn't leave you hungry

I love love this sushi spot. Located in Bankers Hill close too downtown this place has some of the best quality sushi in town. Everything is great.

We are japaneese food lovers and I can say that was one awesome dinner! Strongly recommend the lobster roll and the green tea cream brulee. A bit pricy but worth to try. Great service. A bit outside the Gaslamp district, you have to go there on purpose as I'd say it is more of a residential neighbourhood.

This place is located at a pretty good location downtown where it isn't extremely crowded and supplies ample parking. However, the restaurant itself was a bit crowded since it was a small place and it appeared that it was a popular spot amongst locals. The food itself is great however the portions are a bit small and the price is a little steep for the portion size. Overall, the food was great and I wouldn't mind eating here again. I probably wouldn't be a regular though due to the price to portion size ratio.

We had just driven in from Arizona. It was late, but we were hungry. I had the bento box and hubby had chicken Katy. Both were good and hit the spot. No complaints mplaints on food or service. The lighting was very dim. I could of used a flashlight to see the menu. Would recommend.

I had to have sushi in San Diego, and I am so glad I ended up here. This was the best sushi I have ever had, and my friend loved it as well. I had a nigiri dish that included tuna, yellowfin, salmon, squid, etc. and my friend had a specialty roll. It's a little pricey, but sushi normally is and it is totally worth it. I would suggest making a reservation, but if you're willing to eat at the bar that may not be necessary.

After rushing from work to meet friends for sushi (which I don't eat)I was so wound up! This place is tranquil and easy going. Great for relaxin! I ate the Japanese chicken wich was really good. Oh and the Habiscus drink :) ♡♡#TracysTravelStyle

Having had many great meals at Azuki, I chose to return while visiting the area. Everything about the meal was disastrous. We arrived at the end of a hectic lunch service and waited for seats at the sushi bar (our fault we were late). The wait staff were haughty and rude and frazzled too. They were out of the first two sakes we ordered but they gave another carafe complimentary and took 15 minutes to get this one. The meal was not enjoyable as a screaming child put everyone on edge throughout the meal and the parents did not control this banshee of a boy. Food was not up to par. The tempura was greasy and the shrimp unpeeled and tough. The sushi was marginal and the shrimp tempura sushi had a mushy center. They were out of uni too. Only the shishito peppers were good. The sushi has become lackluster when in the past was perfection. The oysters were excellent though. Perhaps, the sushi chefs were on holiday? And the servers were apathetic to everything including the screaming child and forgetting dishes such as a bowl of rice. Until Azuki comes back to the level of excellence in the past, I would not recommend or return.

Quite disappointing. The place has zero appeal and is in dire need of a reno. The music they were playing is pop. The sushi offerings are no different from a regular place, not this supposed to be higher scale place. The tempura bowl was so stingy 2/3 of it was rice. And mini shrimps at that.

this is a good sushi place with a small garden in the back. it is modern and they are very creative with their rolls and the appetizers; the fish is fresh, I don't think it is better than Ota, but it is a good date place especially if you are into sushi that's less traditional. it is (fairly) expensive too

Located in a quiet part of San Diego just a bit north of core downtown, Azuki is an unassuming, small sushi restaurant. There is a full sushi menu with choices you'd expect if a restaurant serving both lunch and dinner. We went for lunch for Erich there was a special menu. I had the chirashi bowl that was laden with generous cuts of a variety of fresh fish on top of a generous helping of sushi rice tossed with rushed ginger. My wife had the nigiri platter with which there is an option to add a roll for just $1.75. Both lunch entrees came with a choice of soup or salad and a side of pickled ginger and zingy wasabi. There is a bar menu too though we passed on that for lunch!

We visited the japanese restaurant after a recommendation. Miso soup was not hot, shrimp udon was tasteless and with only one shrimp. Kobe roll was not good. And finally they forgot one person dish so we have to wait 20 minutes more after finishing. No apologies, service never attentive and no attention to details. No japanese service at all.

Yep. I thought it was a step above supermarket sushi. The menu was unexciting and limited. We started with oysters and they were good. The waitress suggested the sunshine roll and the crabmeat tasted like it was canned. The adventurous sashimi platter, which was presented nicely, was tasty but skimpy for the price. Finally, the tuna roll and spicy tuna roll were very average looking and tasting.

What an interesting place. I was solo and well looked after by the bar staff. Food was super and beautifully presented . Looking forward to a return visit.

After reading all the reviews, I decided to try this place before an event at the San Diego Civic Theatre I was attending. I liked that I could make online reservations. Upon arrival, we were seated in the back of the restaurant. The setting is what you would expect to be a Japanese house. There is plush booth seating on the outskirts of the room. The service was very good. I was immediately greeted by the server and a drink (Wild Hibiscus) and appetizer order was taken. The rest of my party was late. She came back when they sat down and took another order. As a group, we tried about 4 of the signature roll and had several orders of root vegetable fries. Everything was just delicious! Pricing was very reasonable for a near downtown restaurant. Will definitely be back! Bonus - Happy Hour is until 6:30pm - even on Saturday!

Friendly and accommodating personnel, eat inside, outside, on a terrace in the backyard - or take away. Nice choice of fancy rolls, as well as (sushi loving) kids friendly classic menu.

We were in San Diego for a combo business/pleasure trip. We like to try sushi in every city we visit and Azuki Sushi was highly rated on a couple different sites. We ordered a bowl of the chilled edamame and corn soup - pretty good. Then we had two of the specialty rolls - "by the border" and "super dragon." We both agreed, it was the best we've had on the road. I've added it to my list of go-to places in San Diego for future trips.

Amazing food, great service (thank you Kevin!) . All the dishes we had were so good and recommendation were great. This place is a must if you like Sushi.

Great food and awesome selections of sake specially the Daiginjo. Presentation and freshness is at the very top. Price is on the mid to high but well worth. Very busy with many patrons even for a Wednesday night.

Truly outstanding! From the service to the food, everything was just so enjoyable. I left wishing that there was a restaurant in my town as good as this (and I live in LA). With a ton of sushi options I loved how the chef put a unique twist on all the classic sushi dishes. Even the crispy rice spicy tuna rolls had a unique twist. I only wish I had more room in my tummy so that I could have ordered more dishes!

So close to 5 stars. And maybe it is, but I've only had the opportunity to have lunch here. I ordered the sushi lunch special. Everything was very fresh and very tasty. Generous portions of fish, good service, and at a very good price. It's a small, nice, casual place in a normal neighborhood, close to the airport. I guess if I had to find a fault, I'd say the rice was not 'sticky' enough, as it tended to fall apart too easily. Either way though, I'd love to come back and try more options off their menu - maybe next year. :)

Azuki Sushi is a top flight sushi lounge and restaurant, serving the freshest fare. On a recent trip during San Diego Restaurant Week, we ordered from their special Restaurant Week menu, the happy hour menu and their dinner menu. The $40 three course restaurant week menu included their amazing miso soup with king crab and clams, which came with about 5 large pieces of crab and 3 or 4 Little Neck clams. That was followed by their Omakase sushi platter and finished with stuffed banana dessert. We also enjoyed snacking on garlic edamame, peppers, $3 draft Soporos and $5 very large carafes oh hot sake. One member of our party loved their Vertigo roll, which featured crab rolled in very thinly sliced cucumber. All in all, a thoroughly enjoyable evening.

This is one of the best Japanese restaurants in SD! They have very fresh seafood and always have different types of fish flown in. I love sitting at the bar and the chefs are always very friendly and personable. I've never had a bad meal here and Love coming here regularly. It's not a big restaurant though so there is a wait sometimes but it's worth it. The owner is always there and you can tell takes a lot of pride in her restaurant. They do have a back patio which is really nice to sit at on warmer afternoons or evening. I definitely recommend this place for amazing sushi and great atmosphere.

despite its off the mainstream locations, Azuki served up very decent sushi for a very reasonable price

Cho toro tuna belly from Spain was awesome however the black truffle was a waste of money and an attempt at tasting it. The grilled yellow tail collar was really good. Sorry no pics cuz my battery was dead.

Continues to live up to the high bar. Exceptional place and amazing owners. Can't wait to come back again.

cozy booths downstairs, and seating on the street as well. upstairs dining area is nicely done in an asian style including wooden "walls". sake, beer, and other alcohol available. always good, including sitting at the sushi bar with their tala ented chefs.

Everything excellent!! Sashimi, rolls (RU kidding me & lobster) and the cream brûlée were terrific!!! Little restaurant a bit out of the classic restaurant areas

I went with my bf during our trip in SD! We came here a second time as we found it very good! we are very passionate about japanese cusine and culture! We had a noodle soup and some rolls. plus th emochi icecreame and the green tea creme brulèe! everything was delicious! We recommend this place!

We absolutely LOVE their food! Timely, delicious, travels well as we did take out. It’s a restaurant where I want to try everything.

The Sashimi was excellent. Try the chef's choice. Beautiful presentation. Very fresh fish and crustaceans. Nice sake selection. Like most such I places, I like to sit at the bar and talk with the masters as they work.

Amazing sashimi and rolls, if you are in San Diego, go to Azuki sushi! We all had the miso with tofu ( A's favourite), A had mix tempura, and California roll, Gil the chicken teriyaki and gyoza, I had adventurous sashimi, the green roll and the R U kidding me. We all tried each others, simply fantastic!

My wife and I ate at Azuki on a recent trip to San Diego and it quickly climbed to the top of our favorites list. It's located away from the touristy areas and is a bit quiet and unassuming from the street. We were seated in the section up the stairs and in the back. The food was amazing, especially the crispy rice/spicy tuna appetizer, and along with the great service made for a wonderful dining experience. We would highly recommend giving this restaurant try.

I have been here a handful of times. The menu is surprisingly diverse, and have had some amazing dishes. I prefer sashimi and nigiri, over rolls, it has plenty of options, and some room for adventure! The front room is small and appropriate for a date, the back seating area is a bit more relaxed, but just as cozy.

Nice restaurant, good sushi and sashimi. Don't bother with dessert from here, walk up the street to Extraordinary Desserts instead.

We were in town for the weekend and made it to Azuki for dinner one night- fabulous! We went on a Sunday night and made reservations, but it turned out we probably didn't need them, there were a few open tables although it was plenty busy. Eat on the patio for a nice relaxing atmosphere. It is in a quiet neighborhood. Sushi was amazing, just what we were hoping for-fresh and creative, probably some of the best I've ever had. Prices as expected for excellent sushi. The couple at the table next to us got the chef's choice, which looked great and I would try next time. Highly recommend!

If you like speciality rolls, cocktails and a great atmosphere, Azuki Sushi Lounge is a safe bet. We arrived on a friend's recommendation, high expectations and were not disappointed. Sharing a few appetizers and four rolls (r u kidding me?, super dragon, sunshine and by the border) with a bottle of white wine was more than plenty for our party of four. The only downside is that the prices were a bit above average.

Yep, just meh. The good: The atmosphere was intimate and comfortable. The good: The waitress was nice and knowledgeable. The good: Crispy rice. The bad: We put our name in to be called when a table opened up, they never called. We came back on our own and there were multiple tables open. The bad: Miso soup was room temperature, yuck. The ugly: They advertise inventive rolls. We had the stardust and sunrise and I wouldn't call them inventive, I would call them odd. So, my overall assessment is meh.

I went there with a couple of my colleagues last week. It was about 6:30 pm and place was packed. I was so glad we had a reservation. The food & service was really good and friendly.

The food was presented well and it was quality fish. Our server forgot to bring out the shoshito peppers that we ordered and then proceeded to spill an entire cup of water on my dates lap. We at least expected a drink or appetizer comped for this mistake but we received nothing. No managers over to the table to see if we were being taken care of, not even a complimentary dessert. Not impressed with the staff and management at this place, for the money you spend you can find much, much better sushi in San Diego

I have been coming to Azuki for a year now. Fish quality is great, one of the best modern sushi places around the area! Very much recommended!

If you're looking for great sushi in San Diego, check out Azuki. Nice cozy restaurant in a quiet area close to downtown. We were pleasantly surprised during a business trip. Everything we ordered was excellent. Can't wait to go back. Try the Sunshine roll when you go. Service was excellent as well.

The sushi are awesome! Also liked the fried calamari "legs", delish! The service could be a little faster, but no big deal. Definitely a great place overall.

We were recommended Azuki by fellow travellers and with Sushi being one of our favourites decided to give it a go. We ordered three different Special Rolls and they were good. The two better ones were Sunshine and r u Kidding. The presentation was more traditional so we weren't blown away by something radical. But this is not to say we didn't enjoy it rather to say we hoped for something a bit more "out there" so-to-speak. Making a phone reservation was a pain as it took 45 minutes to get through but the phone manner was great as was the welcome from the staff. Would recommend booking ahead 24 hours or more on Yelp. Seating is casual and Azuki has its own feel and vibe which is relaxed. Service was laid back and not rushed but at a steady pace. One last thing. There are parking meters out front, but arrive after 6PM and its free.

And very good sushi, with great specialties. The family platters offer a great selection of high quality sushi selections.

Located on Banker's Hill near Balboa Park, we were surprised with the quality of the sushi. The rolls are beautifully presented, the tataki was delicious, the sashimi fresh. Very interesting drink menu if you want something besides wine, beer and sake. Cozy ambiance. I would highly recommend this place.

Stopped in after trekking Balboa Park for a solo early supper and ended up staying well over an hour, sampling delectable fresh sushi and sipping my lychee saketini, a perfect not-too-sweet cocktail to go with the salty flavors of sushi and garlicky edamame. Courteous welcome for a solo diner (not always the case!). Spent a bit more than I'd intended but I'd go back in a heartbeat.

In a quiet neighborhood away from all of the activity further up 5th, Azuki feels like a private club - it is a destination, out of the fray. The food as well as its presentation is outstanding. Azuki is definitely hip and happening with a younger vibe but certainly welcoming to all. Two of us thoroughly enjoyed house made shrimp gyoza, light and delicate; delicious Miso soup, chef's choice sushi assortment and inventive rolls, one of which had a thin strip of slightly charred beef which was excellent. We noticed the table next to ours ordered the "Adventurous" chef's special sushi and it looked intriguing. I would try it next time. For dessert, we shared Mochi ice cream which was a perfect ending to a special meal.

Have eaten late dinner here a couple times while in San Diego, and the staff is awesome, Sushi is Great and they have Late Happy Hour which is great.

Hane is closed on Mondays so took a chance. Reading other reviews, I thought it might be overly expensive or I would be subject to bad service. Had reservations at the sushi counter. Chairs were a bit cramped. There were about 4 sushi chefs. They seemed to be focused on filling other orders but when we interrputed and asked for certain sushi, the chef was very attentive. Service for water and drinks seemed a bit slow. Anyways, the service was not as bad as I have read, and the price was, well expected. Some of the sushi was incredibly fresh and good, such as the toro and the unagi. Hamachi was not bad either. For the same price and for a better atmosphere and decor, I would still pick Restaurant Hane up the street, but this is not a ad second in the same area.

Great Japanese food & drinks with good service. Our server was very knowledgeable and made great suggestions. Would go back definitely

We got great vibes from the beginning! The hostess Jordan, was so friendly! Restaurant has lot's of room. We had one the finest Sushi meals ever. Great presentations, great food and great service. Simply put. Go there if you like Japanese food.

There are perhaps five really good sushi restaurants in San Diego (a surprisingly small number considering our oceanic front yard). Azuki Sushi Lounge is without a doubt in the top three of that list - possibly #1. It's authentic, sustainable, and always on point. It's also one of the few sushi bars in town that blends traditional edo-mae style sushi with contemporary flavors and techniques in a way that is modern yet bows appreciatively to the past. Their chefs are truly skillful artists who never disappoint. So when you're done with the all-you-can-eat buffets, spicy mayo-forward rolls, and whatever other so-called Japanese food that many places churn out, head to Azuki for an experience that is truly elevated. Yes, you'll pay a little more here; but that's because they choose only the best market products they can get (including local). They don't skimp on quality - and neither should you! And yes, it does get a bit hectic; but that's a sign of their popularity and great reputation. Apart from their excellent sushi, be sure to try a few sakes. Don't be afraid to ask your chefs to recommend something. And be sure to share it with them (or buy them a beer). Kanpai! My recommendation: Make a reservation - this really helps. For dates or groups of up to three, ask to sit at the bar. The rolls are great, but this is a place that truly excels in the nigiri department. Get the "Chef's Selection Adventurous" nigiri plate. It's okay to let them know what you like in particular (salmon, uni, yellowtail, etc.), or if you don't like something. They'll customize it for you. Sushi pairs best with lagers and sake, so start with a frosty Sapporo and maybe something hot (I like the baked yellowtail collar, but miso black cod is insane!), then once your nigiri shows up, venture into sake land (Dassai "Otter Fest" is a personal fave - sweet and floral, goes great with o-toro and salmon). On top of everything, the place itself is as hip as it gets. Stylish, simple, comfortable. You'll often hear jazz or relaxed electronic tunes that are never too loud. The upstairs deck is offers subdued lighting for a more intimate atmosphere. The staff are ever present but never bothersome, and always over-the-top nice. [Full disclosure: I've been going to Azuki since it opened and I know the owner and some of the staff, but I'm anything but biased. I've also lived in Japan and have an authentic reference point for real-deal sushi. That said, I can vouch for Azuki's excellent quality, skill, care, and love that they put into their art. These guys get it!]

Great sushi, great, friendly service, and no time limit! And no lines out the door! This is our second visit, but we will be back!

Amazing new-school sushi. You should try the R U kidding me roll and the DJ roll. Really good chefs. Popular place. Make reservations or expect to wait for a spot.

Azuki is our go to for sushi. They have the freshest fish, which is lovingly prepared every time we’ve eaten there. The wait staff are friendly and courteous. If you enjoy sushi, you’ll love Azuki

Loved the sushi here. We stopped by for lunch on a weekday. The fish is super fresh. The sushi rice is tangy and tasty. The iced green matcha tea was the perfect complement to the sushi. The restaurant is not pretentious, which was a nice touch. The wait staff were very attentive, but not intrusive.

My wife and I enjoyed yet another delicious lunch last week at Azuki Sushi. As usual, we ordered dishes to share. I started us with the Shrimp and vegetable tempura plate; the generous portions of shrimp & veggies were quite good, but the tempura dipping sauce seemed watery. However, this plate also came with a generous serving of rice and a very tasty salad, so I would order it again. My wife choose one of Azuki's interesting long rolls, the "5th and Juniper" roll, which was very tasty. Overall, we got a lot of food, the quality was good to very good, and the prices were very affordable. They also serve beer, wine and sake. If you're in the Banker's Hill area, or if you're on your way to Balboa Park, Azuki Sushi is a great choice for lunch! P.S. Come early for lunch; Azuki is very popular!

Came here our first night in San Diego without a reservation and was seated within 5 mins. Very friendly staff. Our waitress had no problem making selections for us and we enjoyed every bite, every drink! Be sure to get the R U Kidding Me. It was amazing!

I did not see this coming. The restaurant was kind of off the beaten path and not in an area with a lot of restaurants. We had made reservations and when we walked up I was sure that we had made a mistake. The dining area is small with a row of tables on one side and the sushi bar on the other. I did find out later that there is another dining room upstairs and in the back. The front dining room is bright and loud with lots of people coming in and out. The back dining room seemed darker and quieter. My wife likes sushi. I don't. So she ordered the Sunshine roll and I went with the teriyaki chicken. According to her, the sushi was unbelievably good and very, very fresh. The teriyaki chicken was very tender and cooked just right. It came with a delicious side of freshly cooked veggies. My wife was able to finish off the sunshine roll. She said she was stuffed when she finished. I wasn't able to finish off the chicken. The value was very good as well. The total bill for the two entrees, two specialty drinks and a cup of tea was a little less than $50. Sitting near the sushi bar was a treat. Watching the sushi chefs prepare and present the dishes to the people seated at the bar was quite fun. The servers were fantastic as well - very attentive without being intrusive. It's located on Bankers Hill. We found a free parking spot on the street over from the restaurant.

I know you read time and time again, oh this is the best sushi...best quality best service blah blah. It's likely hard to discern which is the best? If I was traveling from out of the area and wanted not only the best quality food but also an incredible experience it is hands down an easy decision. Make your way out of the gaslamp and head to bankers hill to Azuki sushi. Call ahead of time and asked to be seated at the bar (assuming you have a party of two) and be seated with Aki. Let me take care of your every need. He is a true master at his craft and I've been going here religiously as a local for about 8 years. Each time spending over $200 because we just cannot get enough of the experience. If that doesn't speak volumes I don't know what will. Trust me and give this place a shot over EVERY other spot on this list.

Regulars know that nestled in the back of the restaurant and not visible from the street, is a beautiful outdoor patio. Given the beauty of San Diego's climate, it is wonderful to dine there almost all year round. The sushi is very fresh and the cooked food is delicious. One of my favorites is the Miso Cod. If you are a tofu lover, try the Tofu Three Ways. The rolls are good too, and the sashimi is fresh and generously portioned. Best of all is that even when tourists have flooded most of our other favorite restaurants, it is often still possible to get a table here (but still make a reservation if possible to get the best tables outside).

Everything about this from is wonderful. I made a very last minute reservation and was graciously accommodated. The fish was fresh and beautifully served. Splurge on the lobster roll, you won't regret it.

My husband and I got an online reservation same day (it was a weeknight), and noted in the reservation that we preferred to sit at the bar. We were seated at the bar, and our chef was fantastic! He asked what we liked, provided recommendations, and made us off the menu combinations that melted in your mouth! The nigiri sushi is to die for, and is very fresh. We will be back whenever we visit San Diego. This restaurant is small, so as tasty as the food is, I suspect that a weekend reservation must be made days in advance.

Awesome sushi. We had a blast there. It was a perfect combination of great food and great friends. I can't wait until I'm back in SD.

Sushis were amazing and not too expensive, we would definitely go there again ! We walked there from Gaslamp district, I recommznd to take the bus.

Azuki was recommended by a friend who is sushi addicted as I am. Was not disappointed at all! The sushi was great and fresh! The staff is 5 stars - always smiling and helpful. The sushi chef was right in front of us (we were at the bar) and from time to time would speak with us for a while which was nice. Will go back for sure. You get what you pay for - it's a little pricier than other ones, but you won't regret paying, I'm sure.

I love sushi rolls, so this review will be focused on the three types we tried at Azuki! r u kidding me? roll I saw this roll being served to others when I entered, and immediately knew I wanted it. Its not just a sushi roll - there's a mountain of fried leeks & onions piled up high. The presentation itself gets great marks from me. The roll itself was amazing - juicy crab and scallops, with a crunchy asparagus inside. Slightly pricey though at $19! This gets 8 out of 10 for me. Stardust roll Interesting flavours. First time I've had a roll with lemon, but it does give a nice sharp dimension to the roll. 7 out of 10 for me. Super Dragon roll This was the star for me. The slightly warm temperature from the grilled unagi and the prawn tempura works really well to accentuate the flavour of the roll. And the taste was out of this world. Tempura was perfectly lightly fried with the shrimp still very sweet, and the unagi had that grilled flavour that makes it great. For me, this was 9 out of 10, better than the other two rolls above. Overall, the service here was good, albeit slightly slow for the food to come out. The pricing is a bit pricey though - for example, the kombu cured halibut starter has only 6 measly thinly sliced halibut with only barely a hint of kombu for $12.50, which was steep. So stick to the rolls here.

We went to Azuki to celebrate my husband's birthday while we were visiting San Diego. We have literally had sushi all over the world and we have NEVER HAD SUSHI THIS GOOD!!!!!! We started with an appetizer of tempura soft-shell crab- crispy and delicious! Our rolls were the "R U Kidding Me?" Roll and the King Crab Roll. Words can not describe!!!!!! Both rolls incorporated truffles and truffle oil into the roll and it was literally nirvana in your mouth. The King Crab Roll was the BEST! We wished we would have ordered 2 of these rolls. My husband and I are both accustomed to adding a lot of wasabi and sriracha sauce to our rolls because we love the heat, but neither of us in good conscience could violate these rolls in that way. The flavors were so intense and unique, we would never have wanted to alter them in any way. If I lived in San Diego, I would literally go broke eating this sushi! Make sure you call ahead for a reservation. The place is small and very packed all the time. I can not wait to return!!!!!

Omg the best ever teriyaki chicken I have ever had!! So good! Sushi my friend had was also so good! I will go back for sure!!

This is definitely the best sushi I've had in years. Everything we tried was excellent. I love sushi and have had it in many different parts of US, Latin America and Europe and this is probably the best second only to Morimoto in Philly

I think this is the best sushi place in whole San Diego. The place is very popular and always packed!!! That tells a lot…. They have an impeccable service and their Menu is incredible. Everything is delicious!!!! Everyone is friendly and helpful. The best oysters I have ever tried. This is a finding… A jewel…. Don’t miss it if you are in SD!!!!

Creative, delicious, always FRESH food with friendly service! Their sushi roll menu is excellent & unique. Sashimi - fresh every time, silky, melt in your mouth salmon!

Traveling from Boston, I think this is the best sushi I ever had. Fishes are fresh, tender and creative. Often many sushi restaurants tended to overly decorate their environment and foods. This one knows how to preserve the nature of the fishes. The female host really helped to make this family reunion worthwhile. THANKS!

I walked into Azuki after failing to get a last minute reservation at Ota Sushi and not being able to find Hane Sushi. I was hopeful when I saw the understated modern decor and the variety of sushi selections on the menu as well as the reasonable pricing. Unfortunately none of the nigiri sushi including the otoro was fresh or flavorful and the golden eyed snapper which was apparently fresh from japan tasted rancid. The miso soup was heavy on salt and seasoning The maki was much better And we all enjoyed the "over the border" roll. The desserts were also decent, the stuffed banana being the best, though nothing was especially extraordinary. Did not get sake or wine, as I don't drink alcohol but the green tea tasted burnt. The most curious aspect about my evening at Azuki was the treatment by the hostess who was fairly nice but took a little issue with one of our guests bringing in outside food because of dietary restrictions (allergies and religious). They agreed to allow her to eat her own dish that she brought in from the Whole Foods down the street if they were allowed to "re-plate" it for us. What she failed to mention was the $10 charge for doing so! When I refused to pay it she rolled her eyes and remarked how she'll never allow anyone to do this again. I thought all of this was remarkably rude, not to mention foolish: there are plenty of other sushi joints surrounding this place. And a small hole in the wall cafe style restaurant doesnt gain anything by limiting customer dining options The combination of this behavior and especially the sub-par nigiri gives this place the stamp of death in my book. Won't be coming here again.

A dear friend who lives in San Diego recommended that we have dinner here ... I am so glad that I had the opportunity to dine at Azuki ... the fish was so fresh, the rolls were amazing. The front area is inviting and friendly, the back area was both intimate and family friendly. The atmosphere and staff is very friendly - a must if you are in San Diego.

I never tire of Japanese food-I love the aesthetic, the flavors, and especially when I have the opportunity to share the experience with friends or my Bub. Azuki is one of those perfect places-whether it be a special occasion or no reason. It's casual enough for the T-shirt and trucker cap and yet still impressive enough to take the Boss, Hot Date or picky friend. Fish quality is top notch and the dishes are beautifully presented. Excellent Sushi, Sashimi, cooked dishes and Service.

We were in La Jolla 5 d ays, and had dinner 3 evenings at Azuki. I am a VERY senior senior, have been eating sushi/sashimi for 68 years....and i have never had better, nor enjoyed more-the sushi we had those 3 evenings. We sat at the sushi bar, as you should, and 'Ati' was our wonderful sushi-man, though all 4 sushi men seemed top flite. They also have a modest 'happy hr' menu (5-6:30) with reduced $ for some items and drinks. Try the Ahi Tataki, the soft shell crab tempura, but, in truth, virtually everything was absolutely delicious, with the exception of the very rubbery calamari legs tempura. Take your sushi man's recommendations-he wont steer you wrong. The $ are much the same as any good sushi place, tho some of the specialty rolls are on the high side. Summary-as we left, we were asked if everything was good-I said, 'Good would be an insult...Great is the proper description. Of course, I will return any time I am in the San Diego area.

The sushi here is so fresh and everything is just so delicious! I had a cocktail which was amazing. A miss of sake and grapefruit I believe. I loved all the rolls that I had here as well as any of the sushi with ponzu sauce. The sushi just melts in your mouth. The hand rolls are amazing as well. I would definitely come back here! The service is excellent as well. All the waiters I saw were Japanese.

Wow! This little place on 5th avenue is hopping. Some of the best Sushi I have eaten in a long time. There menu us very diverse. Even non sushi lovers will find something delicious to eat. What a variety! Any possible combination. Wait staff is friendly and very helpful. Great sake and wine list .Reservations are highly recommended as even on a Monday the place was full.

we loved the by the border roll, the salmon nigiri, the otoro and chutoro. we also enjoyed the mezcal and cucumber drink, very refreshing! definitely planning to go back on our next visit to San Diego

One of the good finds in San Diego which is away from The Gaslamp. Everything was A1 except the wasabi which was initially offered the "usual way" i.e. horseradish blend. When I objected and asked for the real thing they charged me (which was OK) but even then the wasabi offered was not "pure". The O-Toro was fresh and fatty. We also tried the catfish collar appetizer and liked it a lot. They have some good Belgian ales as well as the usual Japanese beers. Damage was about $150 for 3 with two rounds of wine and beer.

I had the pleasure of dining at Azuki Sushi a few weeks ago while visiting San Diego. The sushi was extremely fresh, the selection of sushi, rolls, and other dishes was fabulous. We enjoyed a succulent grilled salmon collar, sushi, and an crunchy roll at the bar. The room is urban yet warm, and the staff and sushi chefs very pleasant. A+ all the way around!

My wife and I had a late dinner here. She had the rainbow roll and an eel hand roll. Both were excellent. I don't eat fish, so I had the JFC (fried chicken) which was AMAZING and the pork gyoza (very good). Really nice place, was recommended to us by several people. A bit out of the way, but worth the trip.

Went with a group of 4 and sat on the back patio, which is a much better environment than the traditional restaurant seating in the front. We didn't feel like perusing the menu so we asked our waitress if she could just have the chef make a variety of stuff and we'd tell her when to stop. I'm really glad we did that as the restaurant did an amazing job fulfilling our request. Everything was incredible. Highlights included: spicy tuna on crispy rice, seared tuna carpaccio with jalapeno and ponzu sauce, fried soft shell crab with ponzu sauce, a tofu pallete cleanser with salmon roe and ponzu jelly (I don't even like tofu), three rolls on the menu that are unique to Azuki (the On the Border roll that was spicy and had jalapeno, a roll with crab and shrimp that had a very thinly slice lemon on top - perhaps the most unique and best sushi roll I've ever had, and a roll with raw, thinly slice Kobe beef with a little drop of a great sweet, smoky BBQ sauce), black miso cod with spinach, baked salmon with shiitake risotto, and a lemon custard dessert with berries. Also, we had some traditional nigiri and sashimi as well. Our waitress did a fantastic job explaining everything. We were on a business trip, but we saw some other young professionals (assuming local) there as well.

I passed by here walking and I love little restaurants. This place gets packed! Go early. I sat at the sushi bar. They have HH. Food and drinks. Sushi was generous and fresh.

We love sushi and we thoroughly enjoyed this experience..on par with Sushi Ota. We shared some sushi and followed that by sharing a salmon risotto. I also tried a flight of cold sake..usuallu I go fo r warm sake..was a pleasant change.

I was craving good sushi and came to Azuki with two friends. The sushi was among the best I have had - fresh and very tasty. I had a mix of nigiri and rolls and everything was exceptional. I don't think you can go wrong here. One of the group ordered soba with shrimp tempura, which was also good. Sit at the table outside - you can watch the sushi being prepared through the window, which was amazing to watch. The Japanese sushi chefs (always a good sign) were very skilled and I learned a lot about how rolls are prepared. Price is pretty good as well. We got out with a bill of $109 for the three of us.

This was a very nice little sushi stop. They had a great selection of sashimi an negiri, but lacked a bit on the rolls. The fish was very, very fresh, and delicious. A bit on the expensive side, as we spent over $100 for two just for a lunch stop, but if you like sushi, give them a try.

If you love sushi, do not miss this place! I love rolls, and there were SO many incredible options outside of the normal ones that you see at every sushi restaurant. We ordered tons of things to share so that we could sample as many as possible. Get the garlic edamame. You will not be sorry.

Food was good but service was terrible. We felt like we were an inconvenience to the staff. We are from Chicago and expected sushi to be crazy good on the coast. Not the case. Disappointed!

hidden gem! try the "on the border" roll.. it's the best sushi roll i have ever had Great place, great service!

I love Sushi and have tried many different places in many different cities ( Scottsdale, NY, Paris, Seattle... ) but I always end up with the same conclusion that Azuki has the best Specialty Sushi rolls. I have gone there many times with many different people and no one has ever come out of there unsatisfied. On the border, Sunshine and Stardust rolls are my favorites. I love the ambiance of the upstairs lounge area. Very cozy and romantic. I highly highly recommend this place. You will love every bite!

We found this sushi place on Tripadvisor and I can only reiterate what all the others said before: Probably the best sushi in this area ! We went in the middle of the week, without a reservation and got a table right away, although the restaurant was full when we left. It is in a more residential area, but well worth the trip. we had goyza and seared scallops as a starter and I know I will be dreaming about those. the Speciality sushi rolls are very big... we ordered two each and could hardly eat everything. the rolls were just perfect, fresh tasty ingredients, you couldn't ask for more. Service and ambiance were delightful. I can't give enough praise to this restaurant.

Sushi and sashimi were good but overpriced. The waitress acted like I was stupid when I asked a question about the menu.

This is not the place for you if you can not have sesame oil. I did not find anything I could eat. My weight watchers diet line appreciated that . Later I have to say at another cafe I ate more than I should have. I suppose I would have to say it is trying too hard to be cutting edge and missing atmosphere? Warmth? Comfort? But then I was hungry... starving ... and at that point the fancy strange too gingery drinks did not even help. I am not a fan, but my hubby is

If you are looking for HIGH QUALITY sushi, then I really recommend this must go to lounge. If visiting from out of town, then it's not far from Downtown hotels. Just a short taxi cab away located on 5th Ave in Bankers Hill area. Nao, sushi chef, is very articulate from picking out the finest fish to presenting it on your plate. I recommend sitting at the changing color bar to watch him prepare your order. They also have various saki's to go along w/ your meal or specialty drinks like a Leeche Martini. It is a little pricey, but it is WELL WORTH IT!!!!

The best place to have sushi in the Gaslamp district. The chefs signature rolls are a must, briljant combination and very balanced!

I eat here at least once or twice a month and find the sushi, sashimi and Japanese cuisine to be the best in San Diego. Parking can be a bit difficult in this Banker´s Hill location. I would also recommend making a reservation at the sushi bar and put yourself in the hands of the very capable sushi chefs (who are Japanese). Also check out the chalk board for daily specials flown in from Japan such as the highest grade of belly tuna which melts in your mouth. One dish to always try is a fresh oyster on the half shell served with caviar and uni and is the utmost in decadence. They also have fresh Pacific oysters on the half shell. The dungeness crab soup with clams is very tasty and filling. All of the fish is of the highest quality. Even the cooked dishes such as the unagi or the spider roll are made to perfection. They do not serve liquors but have an excellent selection of sakes, sushi friendly wines from Alsace and beers. In addition, they have shochu, the sweet potato spirit to sip on after or during the meal. Remember to reserve the sushi bar or front room as the back room is not as fun or part of the experience. The service is fantastic. This is so much better than Hane Sushi up the street!!!! I will return as often as possible to this sushi and sashimi heaven in Banker´s Hill. One note is perfection such as this does not come cheap.

If you really like sushi, if you appreciate the knife work, selective preparation, and attention to absolute detail by a traditional food craftsman, then this is your place in Downtown SD. Service staff is attentive, and share duties among tables... great teamwork. Uni was very, very good and fresh. Creative rolls, excellent agadashi tofu, and other tastes of genuine Japanese fare. Wonderful experience... highly recommend... but don't be a snob- they are nice people and will show you a great time.

we did take out so cannot speak to the staff and all but the sushies themselves, best ever, and i have had sushi in a dozen or so of the greatest place in north america, by far they are the best of the best best.

Good sushi at this small restaurant. It's above average rating is higher than I would give it, but the sushi chefs seemed to really know their craft. Decent meal.

Perfect business meeting sushi at the sushi bar. Fantastic sushi and nice to get outside the convention area and in the neighborhood. Very safe area.

My daughter loves this place so we had dinner one Saturday evening here and sat upstairs. They were busy and the service really was not great on this visit. Our server was overloaded and everything took a long time to receive, bad. The crispy rice was good, kobe meat dish was tasty, r u kidding me very tasty and sunshine not so great which were all rolls on this visit, Edamame was good. Don't think I would return.

This was excellent sushi and side dishes. I can’t remember what we had but each and every dish is excellent. The lobster roll, are you kidding me, Kobi and Bo si were Excellent. The saki was great too. The old fashion was awesome. With banana and vanilla

Our group of 10 visited Azuki and enjoyed a festive selection of carefully prepared, amazingly fresh, and skillfully presented nigiri, sashimi, and sushi rolls. I would judge it "EXCELLENT" due to the wonderful taste, aftertaste, and mouthfeel of their truly fresh "right out-o'-the-water" taste: no after, chemical or off-tastes. That said, the atmosphere lacked the kind of "wow factor" delivered by Kura (Kearny Mesa) or Isobune (San Francisco) with their visual temptations. Azuki is to us a more-or-less "young'uns" night spot, done well for it's design, intentions, and space limitations: You paid dearly for the experience of some of the best Sushi available in San Diego.
Quality Sushi Extroidinaires
Azuki offered a good range of sushi and sashimi of which their bluefin tuna was absolutely delicious. You don't gunk that up with rice. Their selection is what you should expect in a higher end sushi joint. Not much tempura and about 6 specialty rolls of which their spicy scallop and caterpillar roll were the best and with respect to the scallop roll, it was done right (not chopped up and mixed but whole and seasoned). Kudos Azuki!
