Posh restaurant, inventive menu

By Tigger1971 |

A friend and I had dinner here before seeing a musical at Cadillac Theatre and it did not disappoint. It lives up to the description on its website of having a look inspired by 1950s Hollywood Boulevard. It’s a little on the dark side, so you have to let your eyes adjust after coming in from outside, then you’ll immediately be impressed by the glamorous chandelier, the open staircase, the rest of the lovely decor and servers in tuxes. Our server was attentive from the moment we were seated and helped us choose cocktails and dinner menu items to share to suit our tastes. The cocktails are creative and unique. For example, my Pilsen Paloma had a touch of Chicago flair with a splash of Malort (Google it if you’re not familiar with it) which gave it the slight bitter taste of grapefruit. For starters we had the grilled octopus served with a salad and the mussels served in green curry with rice crackers. Both were larger servings than expected and very delicious. We ate every drop of the green curry sauce. We also shared the lamb chops, a plate of three, that were cooked and seasoned perfectly, with a side of crab corn, which is a delicious, upscale version of elotes. My friend had dined her before and insisted that we must share the sticky toffee pudding that was as pretty as it was delicious. It had a thin piece of toffee that you shatter over the gelato and cake - amazing. We dined early due to our theater tickets, but next time I want to come with a larger group of friends and later at night to better appreciate the elegant, swank night club feel, the inventive cocktails and good music playing.

Worst service

By MollyKay3 |

Food was good, Amanda at champagne bar was great! However, our service downstairs was deplorable. Lauren and her assistant couldn’t have cared less or checked in on ya without asking. Would never go back.

Nice decor!

Nice ambiance, especially for couples. The hostess and the server needed more training but overall it is a nice dining. Our favorite was the chocolate peanut butter cake!

Trendy and Convivial place

Great Place to commemorate with Friends. Comprehensive wine list. Knowledgeable and friendly staff. Great food.

Quite the delight!

Friends tried BLVD, not sure what to expect, yet being adventurous, we were game. It was delicious, fantasy customer service, and I loved the decor. I will definitely return for one of their brunches, however to date, haven’t found the time. I would recommend it for dinner - preferred the intimacy on the second floor- quiet, good for conversation with the shimmery chandelier in the background.

Amazing cocktails, great setting, good food

By TravelGoddess86 |

Enjoy delicious cocktails at the bar in this place or sit upstairs. From the food menu, the tartare was mouth-watering. I had a seasonal pasta dish I believe which was agnolotti (small ravioli). It was undercooked pasta with subpar veggies serving as the bed. Not impressed with this dish. Birthday people get this amazing waffle with caramelized bananas which was to die for. Would go back for drinks and apps for sure.

Avoid this place. Plenty of better steakhouses. Bars have better service.

Walked in and felt like I was entering a club. Groups of people standing up against the walls and my girlfriend and I had to squeeze through brushing shoulders with everyone. We were unfortunately 10 minutes late. Parking was a mess as it was a busy spring break/easter weekend. On the confirmation email, it advised to call if we were later than 10 minutes, and our table was reserved for two hours. We called maybe thirty times and not once did we get close to an answer. We thought we'd be okay, as the email advised us our table was reserved for two hours. Walking to the hostess, sorry, hostess'S, there were three of them staring me up and down with disgusted looks. I was not greeted, and had to speak first. I have never interacted with such attitude, let alone in a restaurant. Three hosts, yet not one available to answer a call. The attitude I received was enough to ruin my entire weekend. We were told to join the club against the wall, just for a "manager" to come out and tell us they were at capacity. She offered us seats at the bar. No thanks. I came to a steakhouse for steak. What happened to my two hour reservation hold? What happened to my reservation period? The lady didn't apologize or seem to really care. Spoke with us maybe 8 feet away and did not greet us. Avoid this place. So many better places its actually hilarious. Workers are so entitled and ruined my girlfriends entire birthday weekend. We ended up at a resteraunt around the corned and had service like we were royalty for half the price.

Just ok, nothing to write home about...

The ‘glamour’ is quite austere and a little cold so affects the atmosphere. The layout is ok. The Heirloom Tomato was unimpressive to say the least - soggy tasteless tomatoes. My steak burger was flavourless too. The chicken dish was too much, so over facing but ok. Overall food was lacking. Wouldn’t bother. So many other places nearby no need.

Hidden Gem in the neighborhood

The place is breathtaking when you walk in. You would not expect such a beautiful place in this location. The food was good! The whiskey flight is a must try. The waitstaff was patient and helpful in explaining the flight. Definitely going back!!!

Different

We met an out of town friend at this new hip restaurant that seems to cater to millenials. Martinis were good as was the noise level. We shared salad, vegetable sides and a fish, somewhat like a sea bass that was delectable. The dessert was over the top. While the ambience and food are good, I am still not sure why I would go back. It is a sort of been there done that for me.

Absolutely fabulous!

Took my clients here for dinner and they were highly impressed! So was I. The ambiance is great, service was good and the food was delicious. It’s very upscale, but jeans are allowed. This is also a great venue for a date night, especially if you are trying to impress. I would not recommend this venue for a family outing with young children.

Chicago's version of Hollywood's Sunset Boulevard

By Taylor B |

My wife and I long ago stopped taking reviews of restaurants, hotels and attractions seriously. They are like weather forecasts. For example, two earlier reviews of BLVD described the service as "wonderful" and "deplorable." So which is it? You have to find out for yourself. By most accounts, however, reviewers agree on two things: the setting is magnificent and the food is just as good. Located at 817 West Lake Street in the bustling West Loop neighborhood, BLVD has drawn its inspiration from Hollywood's Sunset Boulevard of the 1950s, the golden era's most iconic strip of dining and entertainment establishments. Sunset Boulevard was a playground for the Hollywood stars and BLVD is a playground for discriminating Chicago diners. It is a swanky destination, a large space that combines glamour, luxury, elegance and decadence that defined Hollywood in the 1950s. Is that Clark Gable at the bar? Is Gary Cooper at that table in the corner? Doesn't Barbara Stanwyck look sensational? This is the kind of place that makes you feel good just by walking in the front door. Of course, it wouldn't measure up if the service and food didn't. But they do. For appetizers, we chose escargot, shrimp cocktail and Caesar salad. For entrees, my wife chose salmon over halibut while I opted for a 12-ounce filet mignon with bearnaise sauce, wild mushrooms and potatoes au gratin. For dessert, we shared sticky toffee pudding and Maple pecan tart. But the mini malt milk shakes and the chocolate peanut butter cake looked very appetizing. Next time. Imagine, I recall when you could drive south on Halsted or west on Madison and see only a couple of Greek restaurants. Now the West Loop, as it is called, is filled with new and intriguing restaurants with all manner of cuisines. How times have changed, for the better. Welcome to the West Loop, BLVD.

Pleasant and glamorous

By marysell m |

Very nice experience, glamorous decor especially the woman's bathroom. Service was outstanding, food was delicious, but was a bit disappointed that the server had to come back to tell us they ran out of the fish I ordered so I opted for chicken. Fortunately It was delicious which helped me forget the incident and not to mention they compensated by giving us an appetizer on the house. Worth a try.

Another dining delight in the West Loop

By Taylor B |

Chicago's West Loop neighborhood, once known as Skid Row for good reason, has been rehabilitated and renovated into a go-to destination for restaurant lovers. Whatever the cuisine, from hot dogs to steaks to seafood to barbecue to sushi to pizza, you can find it in the West Loop. One of the newest and most modern and swankiest is BLVD Steakhouse. Located at 817 West Lake Street, BLVD is executive chef Johnny Besch's pride and joy, a modern restaurant that draws inspiration from Hollywood's Sunset Boulevard of the 1950s, embodying the glamour and luxury that defined Old Hollywood. It's a swanky destination for upscale North American fare based on a menu of prime cuts, fresh seafood and other iconic dishes. My wife and I started with shrimp cocktail, escargot, lobster bisque and Caesar salad with baby gem lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, house croutons and Caesar dressing. For an entree, my wife chose an eight--ounce filet mignon, a butcher's petite cut from Creek Stone Farm in Kansas, with bearnaise sauce, mashed potatoes and mixed mushrooms. I opted for the 14-ounce bone-in filet mignon, a butcher's center cut from Allen Brothers in Illinois, with bearnaise sauce, a twice-baked potato, creamed spinach and crispy bacon. For dessert, we shared key lime meringue pie with lime curd and white chocolate ganache and toasted Swiss meringue and German chocolate cake with pecan praline crunch, chocolate creameux and shredded coconut. Dining in the West Loop just gets better and better.

Hollywood Glamour, Modern Food

By nathanmac87 |

BLVD recently opened and I went with a group of friends for my birthday. The restaurant is very 1950s glam Hollywood. The interior lighting is dark to create a romantic feeling but glitzy chandeliers and shiny surfaces create a lovely dazzling atmosphere. Our waitress, Emily, was attentive and positive. She was helpful in guiding us through the menu and seemed to be available at just the right moment. The dinner menu follows the trend theme of shared plates so you order multiple items and share them with the table. For five of us, we ordered eight courses: Sardines, Steak Tartare, Sweet Corn, Brussels Sprouts, Ravioli, Octopus, Pork Belly, and Lamb Chops. I enjoyed everything, my favorites being the Lamb Chops and Steak Tartare. After dinner we ordered a couple desserts, the Chocolate Peanut Butter Cake being a huge hit (and huge in size too). Both desserts were excellent and the addition of "Happy Birthday" on one of the plates in chocolate was a nice touch. For drinks we enjoyed wine mostly but also had a couple of the hand-crafted cocktails. My favorite was the Burnout, their version of a spicy margarita. All in all, this is a great place to enjoy with friends but also bring a date. The swanky, Hollywood interior makes a fun, romantic atmosphere.

Different vibe in west loop area

It’s tough to stand out when you are a stones throw from some of Chicago’s best known outstanding restaurants. BLVD manages to do this with a completely different ambiance, think swanky 50’s nightclub. But still serve modern food and drink. The Tuesday night $1.00 Netarts Bay oysters drew us in. We were pleased to discover some other really great dishes at very reasonable prices(for this neighborhood anyway). Don’t miss the great Smokey grilled octopus served on a really outstanding little salad. The bread plate - grilled bread from the Publican served with marrow butter is simply addictive. The Cacio de Pepe is great ( doesn’t need the carbonara upgrade). Also enjoyed the lamb ragu. There are quite a nice variety of other menu items. We may have to come back— on a Tuesday of course.

Beautiful space, excellent service, meh food

By DotInTO |

First off, this place is gorgeous. We were looking for something a little upscale with a nice patio for our anniversary dinner while visiting Chicago. BLVD was on a couple of "most romantic patio" lists so we figured we'd give it a try. The patio is lovely, but what no one mentioned in their write ups was that the L train rumbles noisily past every few minutes, which detracts from the ambiance. Otherwise, however, the space is comfortable and classy, if not the most romantic place we've ever been. The service was wonderful. I have a couple of dietary restrictions (yes, yes, I'm one of those) and Paola offered suggestions for what I could have or how dishes could be adapted for me, which was great. The food itself? It was fine. The oysters were tiny, the shrimp cocktail was huge. Short of bad oysters or overcooked shrimp, it's kind of hard to screw these up, however. For mains, my husband had a steak (the side fries were delish) and I had scallops. Both dishes were well executed, but we had tastier, more interesting food the previous night at Beatrix for less than half the price. For what we spent, I would hope to leave feeling like I'd just had a really great meal, and I didn't. While I wouldn't say we were disappointed (I'd give it 3.5 stars if I could), I also wouldn't go back for either the food or the atmosphere, given that Chicago has better options for both.

Charming. Good food.

We sat upstairs and were a bit jealous of the bling downstairs. The food was very good (options for vegetarians). We had to leave for an event and missed our last course. The restaurant called and credited our bill. I will visit again.

All bling no substance

By Paul M |

If your drunk underage and rich this is certainly the place to come. Unfortunately this was our experience with the table of 4 that was plopped next to us. Two couples with the girls clearly underage drinkers with hugely inappropriate behaviour for a restaurant. Singing whooping shouting....but they were friends of the waiter so nobody asked them to act appropriately. The venue itself is wonderful and very impressive sadly the service and food didn’t compare to the surroundings. Our waiter, when he wasn’t fluffing about the underage drunk table, explained the starters were a sharing concept. Unfortunately only 2 out of the 5 starters came out our table was cleared then told the mains were on their way. We had to explain we were waiting for the remainder of our starters which did eventually arrive but one at a time.... basically a shambles. But onto the main courses surely everything would be ok there. Nope exactly the same fiasco some turned up while we had to chase the remainder. I would however comment the inappropriate underaged tables meals all turned up on time with drinks flowing there..... did I mention they were friends if the waiter !!!! We complained re food and were supplied with one dish of ice cream to share between 5 as an apology. Sadly the night was ruined by poor service, disappointing food, and inappropriate behaviour that management didn’t condone.... won’t be back here! All bling no substance

A Wonderful Family Dinning Experience

By Gershuny |

The ambiance is very New York for this 2nd city restaurant. We started off with signature cocktails which did not disappoint. From there we ventured to their seafood tower. I wish I could say it was worth the $145 price tag, but it was a disappointment! The lamb, short ribs and pasta were outstanding. Our server was attentive along with being well versed in menu options. We will definitely come back, but will stay away from their seafood tower.

Atrocious. Go to Bavette's, Prime & Provisions, Maple & Ash, or Chicago Cut

By Michelle H |

I have never been treated so poorly to a place I was giving my money to. I will never come back, and make sure everyone knows not to. 1) we checked in 45 minutes early to have drinks at the bar 2) 15 minutes past our reservation time, we checked in with the hostess. says she'll come find us at the bar soon. 3) she comes to find us and lets us know our reservation was mistakenly given to another party. we would be seated "soon" 4) 30 minutes past our reservation time, we ask for a manager. we're upset. she says she'll send us a $15 ballerina dish/appetizer. we say no thanks, we want our table. she talks to us like we deserve to wait, and is almost pleased to see us upset. you know how door staff at bars love to power trip and turn people down at the door? that was her. 5) hostess comes over and tells us it's going to be more time - nope we want to talk to another "manager" 6) hostess walks over to where manager 1 and other manager are standing. both girls are way too obviously staring and laughing. now we are extra annoyed. 7) other manager walks over. he sees how upset we are, says he wants us to "start fresh" "going to take care of everything" "we're going to have a great time" "don't worry about it" "i'll make sure you guys have a great experience" **THESE WERE HIS WORDS, NOT OURS** but when you say those things to a customer, you're telling them you're footing the bill for all the BS, mishandling, incompetency and crazy rude staff 8) we're sat, we rush through our meal, and we're running late to our event. i ask our server to run my card for the minimum they're able to charge the card so i can leave his tip. 9) this guy comes back with a full charge to my card MINUS $15 APPETIZER. 10) manager seemed to be so confused as to why we expected anything more. are you serious? and he said he can't just comp our meal. what?? we sat at your bar and paid more than we should have there because you gave away our reso and forgot about us. and when we were ready to leave, you came over and told us "everything is going to be taken care of" **he talked to us as if we were there to try to scam a free meal. if we were trying to scam a meal, why wouldn't we have ordered at least one steak and a seafood tower? why not add more drinks on top of it too? we didn't even get dessert cause we didn't have time. ** Our bill wasn't even $100 -- THE BAR TAB WE ALREADY PAID WAS MORE. ** 11) now we're livid. if we knew all along all they were going to do to "make it right" was take $15 off of our bill, we would have happily gone to another one of the 20 restaurants right down the street, and not waited a minute longer. 12) he had the nerve to say "ok, i'm going to take care of it this time. but next time, i'm not going to be so lenient." next time? lenient? let's not talk about next time. that is irrelevant and never happening. let's talk about this time and all the BS we just had to go through to sit down and eat our dinner, an hour after our reservation time, and rushing through our meal. In one word, this place is atrocious. Go to Bavette's. Go to Prime and Provisions. Go to Chicago Cut -- that goes for you too, BLVD staff. you could learn a thing or ten about customer service.

WORST BIRTHDAY DINNER

By Alexia T |

I decided to have my birthday dinner at this steakhouse, expecting a great experience, but I was incredibly disappointed. First, I couldn’t book a group larger than six online, so I had to call the restaurant to make the reservation. Unfortunately, no one answered the phone all week. Left with no choice, I made two separate reservations for four people each. When we arrived, they couldn’t accommodate us together, and half of my party was seated on the other side of the restaurant. The manager told me there was nothing he could do, which felt dismissive and unhelpful. We also were not allowed to take pictures with the flash even though the ambiance was dark and we were also not allowed to cut and eat my birthday cake at the table (Even though we were allowed to bring it in, light candles, and sing happy birthday). Weird right!? To make matters worse, the customer service was terrible. While our waitress seemed annoyed only with the host and other staff, the overall experience was ruined by how disorganized and unprofessional everyone was. This was, without a doubt, the worst experience I’ve ever had at a steakhouse. A birthday dinner is supposed to feel special, but this was anything but.

Elegant atmosphere, service and food!

By David C |

We ate at BLVD while visiting Chicago, and was glad we did. You might drive by the restaurant and miss it. It is across from Momotaro and the Publican Bakery. While the outside is very spare, the interior is 1950’s luxe, with cozy tables and chandeliers. We started with grilled Shishito peppers with a herring aoli, which was quite good. We shared an excellent grilled octopus over a delicious black hummus. Also excellent was the well-prepared duck breast. As an unusual vegetable dish, we chose the pea and carrot dish, with the vegetables prepared raw, pickled, cooked and puréed. It was excellent! My favorite dish was the amazing sticky toffee pudding with dulce de leche ice cream and a large caramel brittle. Dinn

Fine dining???!

I celebrated my birthday at BLVD on two separate occasions. On Sat May 21st and Wed May 25.Both times I used their valet service but on the eve of my birthday the VALET STOLE a HIGH VALUE item from my car.It was a disaster as the first few moments of what started off as an intimate evening ended in chaos and tears with police reports and the restaurant disassociating themselves with the valet service and the incident.BEWARE‼️As a patron we trust that our cars are safe when dining at your establishment. If we cannot trust valet service with our cars then why would any one feel safe dining at #blvdsteakhouse

Food is Good, Atmosphere Amazing, Service needs work

By Klibra |

My husband and I love to try new restaurants in Chicago when we can. Celebrating a birthday was a good reason to try BLVD as we have tried many other Chicago Steak houses. The atmosphere is really hip and sleek. Very Old school glam and appealing. The bar area is small but great. Bartenders (2) when we were there on a Friday 6 pm reservation. Attentive enough, drinks were wonderful We are cocktailers, so we like to try new drinks on menus. Did not disappoint there, wish there were a few more options. Some dining issues that we were a bit bothered by: *From the moment when we were seated to when we left, we felt rushed. *We happen to be there on the 1st night of restaurant week, we were only presented with Restaurant week menus, not the traditional menus, and when I asked for the traditional menus, (as that is why we decided to try this place) I was immediately told "OK, but you BOTH cant order from the RW menu then" I said, ok, but we would to see our options" *The waiter was nice, but his service didn't fit the atmosphere if that makes sense? Loud and kind of obnoxious, for a Steak restaurant, I guess we expected a little more polished? NOT STUFFY, just polished. *I felt he came back every 2 minutes to check to see if we were "ready to order" *Once our apps were at our table and we were enjoying them, the busser kept trying to clear our plates and food with food still on the plates. Again, this happened several times. (Also during dinner) RUSHED *When food was presented, (a few times) the runners who dropped off the food, at times brought us the wrong food and then when food was dropped off the runners bracelet strings were dipped into our Shrimp Cocktail. Unhygienic It just seems the waitstaff needs etiquette training at a level of what the restaurant wants to be. SOME GOOD THINGS: Excellent Host Stand. Very accommodating and friendly Complementary Bread and Butter Service as well as Sparkling Wine Atmosphere Music Food was Good! We ordered, Mussels and Fries (excellent), Shrimp Cocktail (good Size, fresh) We shared a Ribeye (they cut it back of house) for us, temperature (MR) was perfect and flavorful. We shared Mac and Cheese and the Brussel Spouts (Better than the described). They brought out a birthday dessert which was not the typical scoop of ice cream. The drinks (we had 6 between the 2 of us were all great. The last thing I will say that was a huge put off was: The auto gratuity of 18% added to a bill with 2 people. At a high end Steak restaurant, I would expect better. I have not experienced this elsewhere for small parties (especially for a couple) I use to be a server and I could not believe this. I was so put off, that I always tip 20% or more, but adding a 18% auto grat and then a line that you could add more, I opted out. It just seemed insulting. I think BLVD could be so much better, with some much needed training and small improvements.

Swanky, swanky and delish!!

By Jkarr11 |

We had a FANTASTIC meal here last week. Very unassuming from the outside but you feel as tho you are in a different world when you walk through the doors... nightclub atmosphere...sophisticated and chic on the inside. We sat in a circular booth in the middle of the dinning room right under one of the most beautiful chandeliers. Rich wall coverings and a second floor for private parties. We had a phenomenal server who was on top of everything but not too intrusive. I enjoyed the crispy duck breast and my husband had the whole branzino which was the fish of the day. We shared a warm grain salad and the king crab shingle for starters. Both were superb! Great wine selection, incredible dessert. We'll be back for sure!

Great Service, Food and Atmosphere

By SunSandStyleSports |

I came here on a Thursday with friends and I was very impressed by the service we received. The waiter was very knowledgeable and helped us make some great decisions. They have three different portion sizes, all great for sharing. For the three of us we got two bites, one medium size, and 2 large entrees. It was the perfect amount of food! The best dishes were the tomato burrata shingles, brussel sprouts, vegetable risotto, and the half chicken. Also, the atmosphere is very luxe, it feels right out of the great gatsby.

There are better steak houses

By electrical_steve |

Very disappointed in BLVD especially when paying a $450 food and drink tab. I was there with some friends and the other 2 friends just had entrees and no alcohol, which can increase a bill dramatically. Their portion of the bill was maybe $100, where me and my G/F's was the remainder with 2 glasses of wine each. When we started we asked for a bread basket, and we were only supplied with 2 pieces of bread for 4 people. When we were asked for just 2 more pieces, we were ignored and ended up cutting each piece of bread in half. Bread is $8 BTW. We got all of our food served at different times, half our party got food while others waited another 5 minutes. Any other restaurant ive been to has all the food for the table come out at once. The steaks were cooked at all different levels even though they were asked for medium rare. It wasn't worth sending back, but they should have gotten this right. I realize that all restaurants have staffing level issues, but our waitress would look at our table ask one person if everything was good and walk away. She wouldn't ask the other 3 people at my table. I think i will stick to my favorite Mastros, as they have always had consistent service every time i go and their prices arent as high. BLVD has now become a joke between my friends and i as we joke about the read service constantly and the price of a meal for 4.

Reasonable restaurant

We had a group menu and were seated upstairs, a little less atmosphere in terms of appearance. Overall the quality of the food was good, but I expected the presentation on the plates to be better. Operation was smooth, but was possible with this type

Anniversary dinner - thought we would try something new

By Darrell S |

The wife and I decided to go downtown Chicago and try a new restaurant. We picked Blvd based on a recommendation. Overall we had a good time. I indicated it was our anniversary on my OpenTable reservation and we got free champaign. So first off you have to comment on the decor. I am a pretty simple guy and am not into big glamorous rooms but they did a good job with this place. They nailed what they were going after. But like I said those things don't impress me that much. The server we had, Jake, was pretty good. He had a good combination of knowledge and entertainment without interrupting our night. He explained things well even though it is always hard to hear in places like this. Now to the food. First and foremost the prices are too high for what you get. I expected this going in but you can get so much more for you dollar at many other great restaurants in Chicago. They recommend that you order around 4 items from the menu and share between 2 people. Not sure that makes sense. The seafood tower is one of their signature dishes (lobster, crab, jumbo shrimp, and oysters). We got the half-order ($75) and to be honest the amount of seafood was disappointing. I could have easily eaten it by myself and still been hungry. We also got the bone-in ribeye to share. Again, not very much steak for the price. The menu is sort of confusing and they should spend some time figuring out what they want to focus on. The flavors though were very good. The other items we got were very different and flavorful and made the dinner interesting. In the grand scheme of Chicago restaurants they have to make some changes to survive. It was a fun night trying a new place but not sure I would go back.

As you walk thru the door of this restaurant you are transported to the ultimate swanky Mad Men spot. We were warmly greeted and enjoyed every minute at this fine restaurant!! Yes go here!!

Be Prepared to Pay

By ChicagoSteven |

Really great food, loud, extremely slow service, small portions and over-the-top NYC prices will make you question yourself about returning. Also, $24 for a McCallen 12 scotch is ridiculous, especially when other comparable restaurants charge, at most, $12. I dine in expensive restaurants and rarely complain about prices, but, in this case, I didn’t feel ripped off because the food is great. However, VERY expensive.

Don't go here if you can help it

Most disappointing NYE EVER!. I was looking for an upscale restaurant for NYE in Chicago for husband's birthday. Called Amanda in September and she said we don't know what we are doing yet but I will take down your name and give you a call when we do know. Never called back. That should have been my first clue. I called back in early November and talked to who ever answered the phone and explained to him I was trying to make a reservation for NYE and he said, oh Amanda doesn't do that. Not sure why she told you that. You need to talk to Devric.I will have him call you. Devric never called me back. So I called him (third time now). He seemed somewhat competent and I explained what I was looking for and he said great I will get you set up but we only have one time left - 8:45. I agreed and took it. We got there and they directed us to the balcony. The balcony consists of 6 2-tops that overlook the main restaurant. there is about 2 feet for the servers to walk around you and when we were seated we were the only suckers in the area. You could see clearly that there were at least 10 2-tops available on the first floor. They knew it was a special occasion, and they knew we were from out of town. It went down hill from there. The so-called entertainment only performed to the first floor and back room We could see none of it. The food consisted of 2 courses with three items on each course - served family style. All for $250 each. The food was not hot, there was way too much served all at once. The server apologized telling us that this table always stressed her out due to it's location and awkwardness. Oh - and when they turned on the lights on the stairs for the entertainment it put 2 very bright spotlights on our table. we had so little room we couldn't move our chair due to an ice bucket from the other table blocking us from moving. Finally after the second course had been served (a little late) the general manager came over, apologized and offered to get us a table downstairs. and buy our drinks. Are you kidding me? We spent $500 for that????? Don't ever go there.

Interesting design, attractive entrance, friendly staf

The ambiance is worth the visit. The clientele is very varied and not to loud. The menu is not special, while the cocktails are! We had a very tasty grilled crab leg, and a mediocre rib-eye stake. The cost was adeguate.

That Ambiance

Did I just walk into Gatsby’s dining area? This place is simply wonderful. Completely elegant, mesmerizing crystals, fantastic lighting. The cuisine, inventive, beautiful, perfectly portioned, and fresh. Service, service was WONDERFUL, it was so nice to have a server that spoke to us with scencerity, was not trying to constantly up sell everything, like a sleazy used car salesmen. He had excellent pairing suggestions. We left knowing this was going to end up being one of you newusual spots. Thank you for the beautiful experience.

Fantastic on all levels

We have gone here 2x, once for dinner and once for a special wine dinner. Everything at the restaurant is done well - the food, service, the ambiance. They have great cocktails, excellent wine menu and not one weak dish on the menu. Everything is topped off with great service. Can’t wait to dine here again!

Beautiful restaurant

Celebrated my birthday dinner here with 8 friends. Due to the size of my party we did have to order from a pre fix menu, but Madison was great at communicating with me throughout. They were attentive of the allergies In my group. Which I very much appreciated, service was perfect. My favorite had to be the tomato toast, shrimp cocktail and corn. We did have chicken and rainbow trout but I wasn't a huge fan, it needed more flavor in my opinion. Overall, I felt the pricing matched the meal portions. I'd definitely recommend, it's a beautiful elegant place. Perfect for a date too!

Mother-Daughter Dinner

By DallasTricia |

I was looking for a relaxed, beautiful restaurant with delish food for dinner out with my Mom. BLVD did not disappoint! The service was impeccable and it’s truly a gorgeous restaurant! Aricelli and Herbert took very good care of us and we enjoyed chatting with Amanda about the history of the space. We had the Caesar, Cacio e Pepe, scallops and lamb chops. All delicious and perfectly prepared. We especially enjoyed the potato, mushroom, sun-dried tomato hash served with the lamb. The only hiccup was I asked for a mocktail, yet was charged for a full cocktail. I was told this was standard. Seemed odd since the liquor was not included. A small matter that did not take away from the wonderful meal we enjoyed.

more to a restaurant than swank-i-ness, how 'bout just being decent.

By Belinda C |

I visited BLVD for a friends birthday celebration. It was beautiful and swanky. Our waitress was great, and the food was okay - my steak was over cooked and all our entrees came out at different times. However, I still would have considered the night a success if it weren't for two things: 1. MY CAR WAS STOLEN FROM THE INCOMPETENT VALET WHO LEFT IT UNATTENDED IN FRONT OF BLVD 2. The Management was so unhelpful In defense of BLVD, the Valet is a third party, and I know this because they told me this 4-5 times that night as chaos ensued. It never occurred to the staff at BLVD to call 911. I did that after 20 min realizing the managers did not. It never occurred to BLVD to get me a ride home. My friends did that when we realized my car was not coming back. And it never occurred to BLVD to have the decency to check on me and my car the next day or the next day or the next... BLVD took our $600 and didn't think twice about the "lady who had her car stolen". 4-5 days later, my car was still 'gone' (and garage door opener-scary), I was still a mess. I asked my brother in law, who is an attorney, to contact BLVD for my insurance company. It may sound silly, but as the past victim of a violent crime, this was too much for me to handle. He requested video, the valet's name and insurance - anything that would help for my insurance. I really believe BLVD would have NEVER contacted me or assisted in this process if my brother in law did not write to them with a legal letterhead. I still can't figure out why BLVD did not give me that information that night. They just wanted me out. After 4 weeks, my car was recovered and returned. We are still trying to get the Valet's insurance company to cover all the damages, not mine. That seems fair. I have not been able to drive my car, much less sit in it. I feel the same way about BLVD: Disgust. I do believe in Karma. Even in swanky-town.

Very unique vibe

The atmosphere was amazing very 50s chic. The lamb chops were delicious, cooked perfectly. Cocktails were great at well.

Beautiful night out

By terinay |

Old Hollywood glam, yes that's true though I'll call it Vegas glam too. Gorgeous space truly. The facade matches the Fulton Market theme but when you step inside, you're transported to somewhere else. Been here twice now; once for dinner at the dining room and the second time we sat at the bar. Service and food were outstanding. On our first visit, we perused the cocktail menu and couldn't really decide. We asked our server Jake which ones were closest to a classic old fashioned and Manhattan. He proceeded to walk us through every item on the cocktail list by naming the almost-equivalent classic cocktail for each of the drinks on the their list. That was impressive. Loved his confidence, friendliness and professional throughout. Second time back, we sat at the bar and even though it was a busy night, we felt taken care of by the female bartender (in sorry I missed her name!). She noticed we had an ongoing theme of ordering rye whiskey-based drinks that night and later offered us a taste of the in-house Boulevardier. Miguel the manager is wonderful and made sure we had a great time. Food items we've tried include the steak tartare, hamachi and tuna crudo, cacio a pepe, pappardelle, pork belly, and whole fish. Haven't been disappointed thus far. I saw other tables get the desserts which look really amazing with huge portions. I haven't tried the desserts and admittedly feel a little nervous about the portions as I'm sure I will love and eat it all. The total experience when dining at a restaurant is what counts and I got that at BLVD. Well thought out food and drinks along with hospitality.

Just ok food

By Debbie B |

The space is stunning, the service is polished and helpful, the bathrooms are incredible. But the food is mediocre and not at all memorable. Try it for a cocktail. The food can’t justify the prices and is the emperors new clothes. We were a party of four and none of us were impressed with anything we ordered. Desserts were tasteless and unimaginative. Food is pedestrian and in Chicago there’s way too much competition to make a second visit.

Very loud!

By Mark K |

The scallops were good but too skimpy of a portion. I am glad that I ordered a side of vegetables to go with it. My date’s chicken entree had an ample portion size. The restaurant has an extremely loud atmosphere on the second floor. My Apple Watch indicates that long term exposure to the noise level is damaging to one’s hearing.

Very Overrated !

By bobgibson011 |

Dined on Dec. 28, 7:00 pm. Disappointment from the start. Booked a Rez solely to experience dining in the Atrium. Upon arrival we learned BLVD has received complaints from customers for being seated in the Atrium, they don't always open it for seating now. So it was closed and we were not advised and at 7 pm on Saturday nite not many options to dine elsewhere in West Loop. Our server, Tigi, was very good and attentive. The kitchen, Not so. Have you ever experienced barely warm escargot?? It was obvious the moment the dish was delivered to the table by the runner. When we showed Tigi, she immediately said, that should be bubbling. Back it went. Then came the barely warm steak and mashed potatoes, both had to be returned to the kitchen to be rewarmed. The steaks, had to be returned a second time!!!! So we ate rewarmed potatoes and Brussel sprouts until the steaks returned. Tigi was gracious enough to comp us for one of the dishes for all the mishaps, that never should have occurred. Attn: Joe Flamm, we experienced your fabulous culinary skills at Spiaggia and Rose Mary. We have an upcoming dinner res at your new restaurant, Il Carciofo. We very much hope we will not be as sorely disappointed with your new venture, as we were with BLVD. Thanks, Bob & Nancy Gibson

A glimpse of the 1950's

By Mary58th |

The atmosphere was retro glam. The food current, upscale and delicious. The salted roasted beets with beet yogurt and blue cheese could have been my entree, but I shared! The octopus with black hummus so unique and tender! I enjoyed my salmon with baby gnocchi and the lamb was melt in your mouth tender. The service was excellent!

Great Decor and Tasty Food

By kzogger |

We recently went to BLVD for dinner and enjoyed the atmosphere and the food. Our server was very attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable about the dishes. I also loved the dim lighting. I ordered the dayboat scallops, which were cooked perfectly, and the corn grits were a nice compliment (though I'm not normally a huge fan of grits). My friends had the cacio e pepe, the minute steak, and the halibut, and all of them enjoyed their dishes, too. We shared the Brussels Sprouts, which were really good, too. We shared the chocolate peanut butter cake for dessert, but I wasn't a big fan of that.

Amazing food and fabulous decor!

By Colleen S |

Food was incredible. I went with a large group and got to sample a ton of the menu. Every dish was amazing and service was impeccable. I also thought it was reasonably priced for the quality and caliber of the restaurant. Highly recommend it!

Very cool atmosphere, Chase was a GREAT server!

By Speros B |

Love the decor and easy location off of 94. Chase was one of the best servers I have experienced in a very long time. The food (which I epically failed to photograph) was good! Solidly prepared and very creative without being “artsy.” I had the pork chop, Aimee had the 8 oz filet. Brussel sprouts were very good, as was the pork stuffed ravioli.

Prepare To Be Disappointed

By Robert B |

We had high hopes for our Saturday night out at Blvd. We were looking for a new, exciting place, and it had gotten great reviews. Were we disappointed! On the plus side the decor was fantastic--very atmospheric with crystal, woodsy finishes The tables, settings, etc. were laid out in an imaginative way. The crowd was excited and urban chic. So far, so good. But then the wine came. In total, the four of us had a six different wines by the glass. My wife had two of them--because she had to return the bad first one. She and her girlfriend actually did not drink their entire second glasses because they did not like them much. My friend and I thought ours OK, and we did not want the wine to go to waste so we drank all of ours. At those prices, you need to--our wine was between $15 and $26 per glass. Ridiculous! But then the food came. My lamb was uneatable so I sent it back (first time I have done that at a restaurant in many years.) The chicken I got in its place was so-so. Sides, salads, and one of the desserts were again so -so. (One dessert--bananas foster-- was great.) Our server and the manager were very gracious about the problems, and service was generally good. I hope the chef and the wine buyer pull it together, because the place has great potential. It will be interesting to see its status in 6 months.

Eclectic mix of food

By David J |

Was in Chicago on business and went here with colleagues. Stylish decor and we were seated in a corner booth which was good. Only feeling was that the restaurant was noisy and would imagine if you were sat in the middle it could be loud. The menu is really interesting. You can either eat family style or go for individual dishes. We chose to eat family style which gave us a good opportunity to taste different dishes. Tuesday night was $1 oyster night which was very good and we also enjoyed the sea bass. Of the deserts the sticky toffee pudding was the stand out. Service was very good Well worth a visit

50's Hollywood Glam meets eclectic Chicago chef

By JParlante |

What a beautiful setting. It looked like we were walking onto a Hollywood movie set when we entered. Very small and eclectic menu. Go with your wait person's recommendations. Our waiter, Blaine, was knowledgable, everything else and he can sing (and he did). The only thing my party did not like was the background techno music. They would have preferred some Bobby Darin/Sinatra type of background to go along with the setting.

Seriously, that’s what you have on the wall of the men’s bathroom?!

By Omahprx |

My first reaction at this restaurant was, “Wow, pretty cool place”. My perception changed dramatically when I visited the men’s bathroom. Hanging on the wall is a pornographic image. I’m sure someone at the restaurant thought it was artistic but in today’s world where women are so often objectified, I’m always disappointed when businesses do the same. There is no need for this type of behavior. My suggestion, take it down. It’s unprofessional and offensive. I would say more about the food and dessert which was pretty good but I’m left with a disappointment I can’t ignore. I expect better from top end restaurants.

Great Food & Service

By Ash |

One day, I walked past this place - which is very nondescript - and had to google it to find out more. I loved the pictures of the interior so I made a reservation. I was a little disappointed to eat upstairs where the ambiance isn't as great but our server Emily was fantastic. Great recommendations: the scallops were to die for. Everything was really good and came out quick. She knew the wines and we ordered a bottle. We got a little complimentary cocktail at the end and she really was one of the best servers I've ever had in Chicago. An asset to BLVD for sure.

Very 1920's feel, great food, slow service

By bunniejw |

I went for a birthday dinner on a Sunday night. It felt like you were entering a club from the 1920's with grand chandeliers, dim lighting, and cozy booths. Very posh feeling. Food was delicious, ordered too much food and wanted leftovers packed. Service for check was pretty slow even though the restaurant was not that busy. We also had to ask if they packed our leftovers, they completely forgot about them somewhere. They found it though. I would go back. Good food and ambiance beat out the slow service.

Great space needs time

By ElginTravelingFam |

The space is wow. Almost too much Hollywood for the Midwest but impressive. The physical menu is very confusing as it is almost Denny’s-ish. Cutsie and dinerish. The food was good. Not wow but well done. There’s no sense r POV to the food. It’s a mish mosh. Strong but needs some work. Service was kind of hit or miss. Wine list is ok. This place needs some wow to match the decor.

Surprising!

By SavvyTrvl |

Walking into this place from Lake street is a total surprise because it immediately has a dark atmosphere and very glam decor that is unique to the Randolph/Fulton area. Their Hollywood theme comes through and would probably be very tacky if the food wasn't so good! We ordered a variety of appetizers, entrees and desserts and everything had great flavors/textures. The champagne room upstairs is fun but a little overdone with their 'special upstairs' menu. To me this aspect was overdone but atleast they are doing creative things that change the dining experience. Everything here has novelty and it's good so I recommend it's worth a try!

Hollywood comes to Chicago

By Taylor B |

Chicago is a steakhouse kind of town. If you can't find a steakhouse that satisfies your palate, from filet mignon to ribeye to New York strip to porterhouse to t-bone to Wagyu, you aren't looking. And, of course, there are gimmicks to attract customers in a very competitive market. Welcome, BLVD Steakhouse, a classic American steakhouse inspired by Hollywood's Sunset Boulevard. Located at 817 West Lake Street, between Green and Halsted, in the West Loop neighborhood, celebrity chef Joe Flamm has created a romantic, upscale and classy space with outdoor seating that embodies the glamour and luxury that defined Old Hollywood of Gable, Hepburn, Grant, Stanwyck, Tracy, Bogart and Cagney. It features grandiose decor, three interior dining rooms and an atrium with a sprawling 20-seat bar, lush greenery, linen curtains and romantic lighting. Open from 4:30 to 10 Monday through Thursday, 4:30 to 11 on Friday, 10 to 2 and 4:30 to 11 on Saturday and 10 to 2 and 4:30 to 10 on Sunday, it offers a menu straight out of Brown Derby and Dan Tana's and Polo Lounge and Musso & Frank Grill and Chateau Marmont. My wife and I started with shrimp cocktail with house-made cocktail sauce, King crab cake with remoulade, parsley salad and grilled lemon, Caesar salad with baby gem lettuce, parmesan, house croutons and Caesar dressing and a bowl of French onion soup with caramelized onion, veal stock and comte. Entrees? In a steakhouse, you order steak, right? My wife had an eight-ounce prime Heritage Farms filet mignon with bearnaise sauce, 50/50 mashed potatoes with butter and chive and sauteed spinach. I had a 10-ounce prime Heritage Farms filet mignon with bordelaise sauce, 50/50 mashed potatoes with butter and chive and roasted mushrooms. For dessert, we shared sticky toffee pudding with malted milk brittle, caramel and dulce de leche gelato and coconut lime mousse with graham cracker, lime curd and white chocolate. Another great steakhouse heard from.

Good food, average service, chic venue

By LThomas1301 |

Dined for birthday dinner. Had a booth upstairs. Service from the start was slow. Server took a while to greet to us. Finally ordered drinks and food. Cocktails are good. Enjoyed the Caribe drink. There are a lot of menu items but not many good ones. Menu has almost too much variety. Carb and avocado bruschetta. Husband had lamb chops that were ok. I had short ribs which were very good. Dessert options are good. Waffles with banana foster and toffee pudding very good. They were slow with the main course delivery. Manager noticed and comped our desserts. Venue is chic. Chandeliers are pretty. Need to work on service. Food was good but could be hit or miss.

service was poor, food just okay

By 718steve |

positioned as a hip new place in the west loop, we found the service to be very inadequate, and the food just okay. we had to remind our server numerous times to get our drinks, apps , food etc. it got to be a running joke that they continually messed up. bathrooms were upstairs and they didn't have an elevator. food prices were reasonable however but the Must fix their service if they're going to make it

BLVD in the West Loop skillfully executes its vision

By globalfinder312 |

The first thing you notice at BLVD is its distinctive interior, often described as classic Hollywood and chic. The space features very large, evocative light fixtures hanging from a black ceiling, and round booths, all with black and gold color scheme. The music did not necessarily support the ambience, as it seemed urban, loud, and bass-heavy early in the dinner service. It seemed to fit the youngish after-work Friday night dinner crowd, though. What stands out in my memory, is the quality of the food. Our table of two shared a caesar salad, served family style. It was remarkably good and classic with modern twists. Our entrees were expertly prepared, beautifully presented, and delicious. We ordered the "Minute Steak" which was a generous strip steak served with roasted potatoes. We also ordered a the Cacio e Pepe, which is a spaghetti pasta with a creamy parmesan and black pepper sauce. It was simple and so incredibly delicious. Despite the online raves for the brussels sprouts, we ordered the vegetable piccata, which was not sufficiently roasted or properly reheated. It also was surprisingly bland for a preparation that includes lemon, garlic and capers. On the other hand, the sticky toffee was exceptional. It's not a dessert you see often in Chicago and it is well worth ordering. Note, though, this is a dessert it's better not to share -- it's just that good. The service was attentive and professional, although if you are particular about your wines and your are ordering only a glass, I suggest you ask for a taste before committing to any one offering. BLVD is particularly well suited for large groups, both because of its many large tables as well as for the many family-style offerings (our salad bowl could have served three to four). It is also a place to consider for a quick or more casual meal in the bar. This restaurant offers valet parking at $14, which is more expensive than some, but well worth it because of the lack of nearby parking. It is easy reached by public transit. All in all, BLVD is a wonderful new addition to West Loop dining that serves up a memorable combination of designer ambience and delicious food.

Swanky & romantic with upscale approachable American fare

By Shelliu |

Swanky, romantic, elegant yet not too unity. Delicious sharing plate-style restaurant with upscale, yet approachable American cuisine. Seafood tower is filling, fresh, flavorful and worth the cost!! Burger was very good as was the waffle dessert. Steak and potatoes were more like a roast (Argentinian style not like the yummy Chicago steaks we love). Server was informative, friendly and had a wonderful sense of humor! They also have a very strong wine list and delicious craft cocktails (and mocktails). This place is a true gem that thankfully not everyone has figured out yet ... when they do, I assure you it will be one of the hottest restaurants in the West Loop and all over Chicago.

Good food but very pricy!

By Jurgen P |

The food was good overall, but the prices are high. The restaurant needs a face lift, but the low lights help hide it. The service was just above average, slow and not what you expect in a Chicago steakhouse. Limited wine list.

Great Steak & Seafood!

By Angela S |

Amazing dinner in Chicago! Started with the mussels and frites and had the filet as well as the king crab. The mushroom and corn and crab sides were phenomenal! In addition, the beverage director, Ted, helped us choose an amazing bottle of wine for dinner. Wonder service and atmosphere.

invitation dinner

By Halley McConaughey |

Well, the dinner was good but I think it's very exaggerated because the food was not as good as for a 5-star service, but to be honest, I would have gone better elsewhere with this, I'm not saying it was bad, but it wasn't what I expected

Too loud for us

By Howard A |

The food was good, but the noise from the overhead speakers & the elevated trains roaring by made it almost impossible for us to talk. When we complained, they said they had to keep the volume the same for the whole restaurant & couldn't make it softer. It was almost at the level of what you'd expect in a dance club. Very disconcerting.

Very good, but not quite a top-tier Chicago steakhouse

By NBKFamilyOfFour |

We've been to most Chicago steakhouses, but hadn't visited BLVD, so we were pleased that BLVD was taking part in Chicago's Restaurant Week. They do a great job with social distancing; tables are appropriately spaced, and wonderful candelabras with real candles are set on place-holder tables to separate diners. We started with soups, which were average. The French onion soup -- identified as Onion Soup Fondue on the menu -- is amazingly light on gruyere, and just a little bland. The lobster bisque was good, but not special. We both selected the steak frites for our main course. They were perfectly cooked, but neither of us were excited by the seasoning. This is, of course, a matter of taste, but both of us found the seasoning a bit too salty, and with a stronger flavor than was necessary. The fries, however, were excellent. We shared strawberry cheesecake and sticky toffee pudding for dessert. They were very good. Service was excellent, and it's a very stylish environment. I feel like BLVD deserves a second chance to really shine, but in a city like Chicago, it needs to up its game to really compete with RPM, Maple & Ash, Mastro's, etc. We spent $290 for two restaurant meal prix fix selections ($55 each, a great deal) plus four cocktails (excellent old fashioneds!) and a $25 flight of wine. Tax and tip included.

Well Executed

By ksteve |

It's a really nice space for a leisurely meal. The room has some nice traditional elements combined with some more modern touches. The wine selection was reasonable. The menu was also a nice comination of traditional dishes with some more 'modern' culinary options. Food was prepared perfectly. My wife and I shared the halibut. After a shared Caesar Salad (still more than average portion for each of us) this was an ample potion. Fish was tender and moist. One of our guests had the scallops, which I tasted; these were flavorful and, again, cooked perfectly. We went full-on traditional with dessert; some brownie sundae concoction. Which was huge (four of us shared) and quite yummy.

Food Great, Ambiance Not So Much

By Kerry |

We were treated to dinner here as part of a large group for a business event. We were seated outside in The Atrium. There was an area by the bar where we were able to enjoy a cocktail hour before dinner. Food was served family style from a preselected menu. The food was fantastic, the service was excellent, but the noise of the train going by every few minutes was a conversation stopper. We adjusted to pausing every time the train went by rather than yelling to try to be heard, but it was distracting and made conversations disjointed.

A Celebration to Remember

By Dan de Padua |

Notwithstanding a very slightly overcooked porterhouse and anemic oysters, our family celebration was a memorable success. The Sauvignon Blanc was a winner, as were the salads and sides; but the perfectly done tomahawk was excellent. The Atrium was a little warm but much more relaxed than the Chandelier rooms. Our server kept us happy and capped off the evening with complimentary champagne

Great Place Summarized

By Livelifenow007 |

Tried BLVD for the first time. In a nutshell: Atmosphere was cool and chic. Great music in the background. Food was very good. Scallops, Duck Pate’, Beet Salad, Crab Legs. Drinks and wine were very good. Service was attentive and professional. Would go there again.

Pleasant Dinner Service Could have been better

By Rabbits1977 |

Had a nice dinner, group of 4, appetizers tasty and appealing, mains were good. Service was very slow, wine ordered was not the right bottle, even though the waiter insisted that it was, and we would have stayed for dessert and another drink except after our mains were cleared no one came by for 30 minutes. Thought the experience overall was good, but could have been so much better

A blast from the past

By WhatBucketList |

The blast from the past is amazing. Walking into the restaurant, you get a different view from the outside. Food - 3 Pains me to say this but the food is just ok. They always seem to be missing something for the palette. Service - 5 Professional and assertive. And the fact that they remember your past reservation and your name just puts it over the top. Atmosphere - 5 The interior design of this restaurant is on point. Takes you back to the posh 50’s with the fancy dark interior and crystal chandeliers. Will and do return to this establishment. The food is good and the service is better. Always check for the specials during the week

Excellent!

Atmosphere? 4 stars! Service? 4 stars! Cocktails? 4 stars! Dinner? 4 stars! Desserts? 4 stars! This place is worth the drive from the western suburbs on a Saturday night!

Fabulous Ambiance

By Roxann S |

Upscale, fabulous and hip is what you are greeted with when you walk in the door. The decor is ultimately impressive, those chandeliers tho!!! Our waitress Emily was personable and gave us great recommendations on apps and mains. She made our eating experience rather enjoyable. The drinks were tasty with a great pour. The bar area was inviting. The ladies restroom is very boujee, great place for ladies to take impressive pics.

Exceeded all expectations.

By alan b |

I love heading into a restaurant expecting a good meal and leaving after a great one! Our waiter was fantastic and did an excellent job presenting the menu and answering our questions. The food was wonderful and the environment was so romantic. We were lucky enough that there was an acoustic performer who softly sang all of our favorite songs, and sang them better than the originals! It was a wonderful date night and I can’t recommend this place highly enough!

Fantastic place!

By TS |

We recently visited BLVD after catching a show in the city. It's a bit deceiving when you arrive at a rather plain looking building, but once you walk in you'll be pleasantly surprised. Gorgeous decor with some incredible seating in the form of oversized booths and some tucked away corners. The menu is family style dining and starters and main entrees are ordered at once and timed accordingly. The drinks are amazing, and we had the chance to try the Pinup Queen, Boudreau, Chrome Plated and BLVDier. The steak tartare is a must try!!!

Really Nice Place

By Porsha B |

The food was delicious. There was ample variety on the menu. The location and ambiance were lovely and cozy. The personnel was really courteous and attentive. It was incredibly enjoyable to me. If I ever get the chance, I would definitely want to return there.

Food was amazing.

By hanna e |

The ambiance is trendy yet comfortable, Food was amazing.. The menu has a lot of variety. staff is friendly attentive and energetic..

Amazing interior, food less amazing.

By Grahame S |

This is a new restaurant on West Lake. It looks nothing from the bleak outside black door, the interior is indeed worthy of a Wow! There is pulsating music throughout dining, great until you reach a certain age. The food sounds swish but falls down badly on content. The service is novice level. To be fair they appear to be learning but need to employ staff who can match the smooth interior with service and cuisine. It woulda suit the young exec trying to impress a new partner who hasn't experienced a good restaurant.

What a beautiful restaurant. The decor is stunning. The ladies restroom is so inviting. The food is delicious. The toffee sticky pudding and the cheesecake was delicious. The service can be improved. Ivan, made sure our glasses were full and he was very attentive. He should be promoted to server.

Wonderful experience due to great ambiance, food, and staff!

By emilyjoy117 |

We just had dinner at BLVD and had a wonderful experience. The food, atmosphere, and service were all on point! Let's start with the atmosphere, which is what first drew us to this place. It has a totally retro rat-pack feel from the art-deco chandeliers and the velvet chairs and booths. This restaurant feels like how every classy restaurant should feel, in my opinion. My own qualm would be is that we were seated upstairs - would have loved to sit downstairs in the main dinning room but our booth upstairs was intimate and we ended up enjoying it. On to the food: delicious! I love the family style menu as it allows you to try more things. We started with the oysters which were good but we weren't huge fans (but thats probably just our taste in shellfish not necessarily the restaurants doing). When then had the scallops and the corn. Both were amazing and I sort of regretted having to share with my husband. We also had the Pappardelle which was TO DIE FOR! I wish I could've just eaten that all night it was so good! We also had the Brussel sprouts which were also good but we definitely enjoyed the other three dishes more. We ended with the cheesecake and the brownie sundae. While the food servings were on the smaller side, the dessert portions were huge! Definitely could've spit one. The drink menu was adequate and I enjoyed my bourbon old fashioned but there bourbon list did leave something to be desired (but we're sort of bourbon snobs). Lastly, our server was amazing. He was so nice and easy going. He wasn't pretentious at all like you find at so many upscale places. He was just a real guy that we could talk to about the menu. The rest of the wait staff were polite and prompt. There were several mix ups with food being brought to our table that wasn't our food and our drinks going else where but nothing major. Would totally recommend this place to friends and family. Just beware that if you're gonna do the full experiences with drinks, food, and dessert it is going to run you a pretty penny.

Beautiful setting - excellent food and service

By Karen G |

The decor is amazing and the service and food exceptional. Joshua was our server and he made us feel like a guest in his home. We had escargot and oysters followed by the vegetable risotto, pasta w/ peppercorn, and brussel sprout. All were delicious but the must have was the toffee pudding for dessert. A delightful dining experience!

Very good food and stunning setting

By Joseph C |

This restaurant is absolutely stunning. Attractive seating and bars on two levels in a very well designed space which must have cost a fortune to build out. Often new Chicago restaurants which splurge on the physical space then make up the cost by serving sub par food and/or overcharge for weak cocktails. We were delighted to find that the drinks and wines by the glass were top notch and not overly expensive and the food is very good, As is more and more popular, some of the dishes are spicy so check with the server as to spice content if this is a concern. The desserts are a little too non traditional and sweet for my taste. At this level of excellence some real pastry would be welcome but, here again, modern tastes (witness the popularity of cup cakes) seem to be going in the opposite direction. Service whether at the host stand or in the restaurant was excellent, both warm and highly efficient. While not inexpensive prices generally are reasonable given the overall quality and experience.

Quite possibly the worst restaurant in the West Loop

By fsukd11 |

Made a reservation for Wednesday evening at 7:45pm for four. We arrived right on time, and when we checked in, the host said they were running about 30 minutes behind schedule, and to wait at the bar. Didn't comp any of our drinks, and the wait was about 40 minutes. Not off to a great start. When we did sit down, our waiter thanked us for our patience and brought over the tiniest glass of champagne I have ever seen. I expect this kind of disregard in NYC's midtown, not Chicago's West Loop. Nonetheless, we were looking to have both cocktails and a bottle of wine. Their bottles of wine run from $40-$130 on average. We had asked our waiter's opinion of a bottle that was about $57. He mentioned it was very jammy and that he would much prefer another bottle that he pointed out that was $97. We said we needed a minute to think about it, and that we wanted to look through the rest of the menu, but the gentleman were ready with their cocktail orders. He went and put those in, and came back with the $97 bottle of wine and was getting ready to open it when we said we hadn't ordered it, that we were still looking. He apologized, but it was a very weird exchange. We then asked if we could taste one of the bottles that was sold by the glass and by the bottle with the thought they probably already had a bottle opened since it was sold by the glass. He brought us a taste, and we enjoyed it, so we ordered a bottle. He came back about 5 minutes later and said they couldn't sell us a bottle of the wine because they didn't have enough in stock to sell us a bottle and keep it on the wines by the glass menu...I have never heard of this. I mean, I guess I can understand it, but why don't you have enough stock of a bottle of wine that you sell by both the glass & the bottle? He offered us two complimentary glasses and we went on with the meal. We ordered quite a few things to share...as it was about 9pm at this point and we still hadn't eaten anything...including the charred shishito peppers, the Tuna, the sweet corn, the brussels sprouts, the pork belly, the scallops, the minute steak, and the burger. Now, NOWHERE on this menu does it mention cilantro. Literally, it's not anywhere. But almost every single dish had cilantro incorporated. I unfortunately have the gene that cilantro tastes like dish soap, which is utterly disappointing, but it definitely ruins anything that I'm eating. The waiter did ask at the beginning of the meal if there were any dietary restrictions, I did not mention this as it is just an aversion, not a restriction. Whenever I'm eating at a tasting menu, or anything that doesn't have the ingredients listed, I do normally bring this up, but since the word 'cilantro' is not anywhere on the menu, I didn't think this was something I needed to mention. How wrong I was. After the tuna, peppers, and the corn came out our waiter came around to ask how things were. I mentioned that I had not seen cilantro anywhere on the menu but that it's incorporated in every dish, and so I brought up that I have this 'gene'. He said that he had never heard of anyone who didn't like cilantro, and questioned me on this 'gene'. So now at this point, we were sat 40 minutes late with the only comp being a tiny glass of champagne, they refused to sell us a bottle of the wine we requested because they wanted to keep stock for their wines by the glass, and they've now made me feel bad about not liking cilantro. I've given 2 stars as the restaurant itself is beautiful, and the scallops (one of the only things without cilantro) was very good. However, I would never recommend this restaurant to anyone do to the service. There are so many amazing restaurants in the West Loop that have superior service and experiences.

I was wrong! It was great!

The room takes your breath away. It is gorgeous. We sat in a booth in the middle of the restaurant. Comfortable and roomy. Noise level manageable. Our waitperson pointed out the 3 or 4 nooks around the edge of the restaurant. When I first looked at the menu I really thought I wasn't going to like this. I am not a big sharer and I did not think we could make it work. Our server, Emily, did an excellent job of convincing me otherwise. . We will try to get one of those the next time we go. We started with martinis all around the table. Decent size. The menu is split into appetizers, small plates for sharing and large plate (each with a catchy phrase to describe them.) Wine menu is extensive and definitely pricey. I was able to find a $54 bottle of Oregon Merlot and we were not disappointed. We had 3 appetizers - charred shishito peppers, oysters and the heirloom tomato burrata. The oysters were very small and I would not order again - they were good and are $3 each, pretty typical. The burrata was great and the shishitos were blistered perfectly. We had a burger, octopus and the whole roasted to fill us the rest of the way up. Fish was awesome, octopus was tender and Paul was very pleased with his burger. We were celebrating Judy's birthday and they brought us a dessert that is not on the menu. We licked our plates clean. I was wrong! Everything was great and we will be back.

My new favorite restaurant in the city

This place is FABULOUS. From the glitzy but not overdone, decor to the awesome music they play, incredible lovely bathrooms, beautiful chandeliers....NOT to mention fabulous food! The plates are to share, so that is awesome that you can try a few different things. The food was some of the best we have had anywhere, and the presentation was lovely, the waitstaff just perfect. This place is a perfect 10..couldn't be better in any way at all. Don't miss this gem.

Style over substance

By Aaron G |

This place says their inspiration is old Hollywood and perhaps like some of the stars of yesteryear, style is substituted a bit for substance. Aesthetically, the restaurant is spectacular. It's on a gritty stretch of Lake St. right by the El tracks, and then you are transported when you walk in to a dark and swanky old-school glamorous space with large bar and spiral staircase. There are crystal chandeliers, round booths and large banquettes that would have no doubt pleased Frank Sinatra and Greta Garbo. The place is new and I try not to be too judgmental, but there were some major issues when it came to substance. -we had a 5:30 reservation for 2 people--the restaurant was empty when we came in, yet we were given a small table in the back. The restaurant filled in slowly as we were there, but there still would have been room to give us a better table. -the waiter was efficient and attentive, however in my mind slightly overly formal--and seemed to be pushing us to order more than we needed to--I understand that the up-sell is important for restaurants--but this was a Tuesday at 5pm and that always annoys me -shrimp cocktail was decent, but not amazing, and for $21 I expect amazing -we got the cacio e pepe pasta with an optional shaved truffle supplement which was delicious -the Pat LaFrieda dry-aged bone-in ribeye was very good--but then, for $89 it better be, perfect medium rare with the right amount of funkiness. However the potato cakes it came with were bland and dry and one had a little bit of a fish taste like it had been cooked next to seafood -chocolate peanut butter cake (at $13) extremely disappointing--it was very large like a Gibson's dessert--but without the execution--dry cake and too much frosting -my last glimpse of the restaurant was an unsightly view of trash cans outside the bathroom--again, a sign this is a new restaurant working out its kinks--and definitely not living up to the Hollywood glam they're trying to convey

Left before we got seated

By Schmooglet |

We went here for a business dinner with a reservation for 6 on a weeknight. They tried to seat us at a table that would maybe seat 4 comfortably. When we asked if we could get a different table she told us a couple was on desserts and then they could put tables together and get us more room. No apology or anything. So we went to the bar - which is beautiful - for a drink. After waiting 20 minutes still no apology or manager stopping by we asked for an update and were told the couple was just now starting dessert. One of us went upstairs to the restroom and noticed a table for 6 that was open. When we asked about it she said oh yes would you like to sit there? So we left. This was too bad I was looking forward to eating there but the extremely poor communication made us leery to try the food. I would suggest some customer service and communication training.

Very nice restaurant tastefully

By Darigregkat |

Very nice restaurant tastefully decorated. Great place for couples, friends and parties. Drinks were delicious as was the food. Appetizers enjoyed oysters & escargot; dinner lamb chop; sides Brussel sprouts and corn. The birthday Banana Fosters Waffle should be added to the menu.

Great new spot

BLVD is lively and swanky. There is a champagne room upstairs where you can get drinks before dinner as well as a bar on the main level. Appetizers and meals were great. Service was a bit slow but the place was completely packed. I would go there again

Unbelievable Dinner and Experience!

By Jeff M |

Our family Christmas celebration dinner at BLVD Steakhouse was one to remember. From the very beginning, our experience was top notch. The setting and atmosphere were beautiful and comfortable. The staff was extremely attentive and accommodating. Ted and Araceli answered our questions and assured that our experience was impeccable. We started our meal with the tuna crudo, seafood tower, onion soup fondue, and caesar salad; unbelievable preparation, freshness, and flavor. For our dinners, we enjoyed the filet mignon, steak frites, bone-in ribeye, bone-in NY strip, and braise lamb shank, with sides, all prepared to perfection. We rounded out the night with creme brûlée, sticky toffee pudding, and expresso. Lastly, our cocktails were delicious especially the old fashion. We cannot over express our pleasure with BLVD and simply cannot wait to return. Highly recommended!

Reasonable restaurant

We had a group menu and were seated upstairs, a little less atmosphere in terms of appearance. Overall the quality of the food was good, but I expected the presentation on the plates to be better. Operation was smooth, but was possible with this type

Old Hollywood Meets Chicago Chic

By Adrian F |

What a great spot. It has that cool Pulp Fiction/Old Hollywood diner feel right when you walk in. We stopped at the bar for drinks, before being seated at one of the big comfortable semi-circle booths. Restaurant was full, but large room meant it wasn't noisy so we could actually hear each other. Service was great and the food was even better. I got the cavatelli which was so good I don't think I shared. Definitely will be back.

Amazing Duck Confit

By Yonas |

Come here with clients sometimes, good atmosphere for that. Never been disappointed by the food but the service can be a little slow sometimes. Besides that, it's a wonderful place to come. If you love duck confit you must try it here.

Truly outstanding

By JordanS8 |

We had a wonderful meal there. The menu is a little confusing as to whether it’s small plate or entree but everything we ordered was great. Start with an outstanding Caesar salad, sishito peppers, giant shrimp cocktail, corn with crab meat, scallops and even a great burger with fries. The desserts were too hard to choose from but we did try a merengue laden raspberry custard thingy that was delicious. Also our service was outstanding. Valet parking if you need it.

A hidden treasure in the West Loop

By Taylor B |

Maybe it's because my wife and I are slow to identify new restaurants and areas such as the West Loop and River North that have emerged as go-to destinations for restaurant lovers in recent years. We are traditionalists who favor old favorites. But Chicago is such a great restaurant town--for steaks, seafood, barbecue, pasta, pizza and hot dogs--that a foodie has to learn to roll with the punches and explore new venues. Which brings us to Blvd, a hidden treasure in the West Loop. Located at 817 West Lake Street, it is a showy, swanky, sprawling destination for upscale North American fare (whatever that is) based on classic dishes. It draws inspiration from Hollywood's Sunset Boulevard (Blvd) circa 1950, the golden era's most iconic strip of dining and entertainment establishments. Blvd isn't the Brown Derby, of course, but it offers a unique atmosphere that Chicagoans aren't accustomed to. And the service and food are first class, which is paramount for an upscale restaurant trying to make a name for itself in the Chicago market. It feels good to dress up for dinner once in a while, doesn't it? My wife and I aren't picky. We aren't into sushi or caviar or culinary creations that look like they should be viewed, not eaten. Blvd is soup to nuts, ham and eggs, peanut butter and jelly, the real deal. We started with shrimp cocktail, scallops, ravioli, Caesar salad and sweet corn, lots of things we like and in proper portions. My wife was delighted with her whole roasted Branzino with rice pilaf. I wasn't sure if I could consume all of my 22-ounce bone-in prime ribeye but somehow I managed. It was too well prepared to leave anything on the table. The striped bass and lamb chops were two tempting options. For dessert, we shared a big slice of strawberry cheesecake. I noticed the folks at an adjacent table enjoyed their chocolate peanut butter cake. Keep an eye on Blvd. It's another of an emerging number of upscale restaurants that are attracting attention and customers in Chicago.
