Great Food, Wonderful Service

By backgroundc52 |

We stopped at Baby Blues BBQ on a whim. We were visiting San Francisco on vacation and happened across while walking around. The food was great and the sauces were outstanding. The Brisket was the standout out of everything we had. The service was quick and the gentleman that served us (I dont remember his name) was pleasant and even entertained our children a bit with a neat trick he did with his pet.

Best BBQ!

Great BBQ ribs, chicken and prawns. It's a casual place with pretty good service. The ribs and sides are consistently good here and their cornbread is pretty good too. It's always a pleasure to come for a meal here.

Looking for BBQ in SF

By Stan B |

This place looked promising, but was disappointing in some ways. My wife got a small plate of pork and sliced brisket and I went all in on the large plate of sliced brisket. Having grown up in Texas, I had a pretty strong bias on how tender this should be (meaning I should be able to cut it with a fork). It required a knife. It can with two sides and I ordered potato salad and baked beans. Like many places, this was a mayo-based potato salad, not the yellow mustard based one I grew up with. I wanted pepper, but none was on the table. I mixed in their BBQ sauce and that added a great taste to an otherwise bland serving. Ok. To this point, you have gotten the bad. So how did I rank it so highly? The rest wa GREAT! The Baked Beans we a blend of at least three beans and had a wonderful taste, My wife had nothing by praise for the Ceasar salad. And they served real iced tea (black not herb or green) with free refills! And the pork was juicy and tender! They had a selection of sauces at each table and I tried three of the four (I stayed away from the hottest one) and they were each excellent in adding a great flavor and heat to the pork and made the brisket tolerable. It appears to be a popular place and was full by about 7:15 pm the Saturday we were there.

From the 215 to the 415!

We had friends from Philly coming in to visit and needed a kid friendly place. This place was great. There's a little nook for kids the play in, there we're TVs around so we can watch the Giants game, and there was a nice selection of beer to choose from. The best part was the food. For a group of eight, it barely cost us $170 and there were plenty of leftovers! The ribs and brisket were delicious (love that sassy molasses with the XXX sauce), and the cornbread was addicting. Roasted Chicken was a little dry, but the fried chicken was spot on. They had a small kids menu, but overall, it was all good. We also discovered that the owner is from Philly and that his brothers own the other restaurants in Philly (and I think LA). One downer is that there is no dessert on the menu, but don't despair! Mitchell's ice cream is in walking distance (a local institution!) This was a great way to wrap up our friends' SF visit. As the sign said in the restaurant "From the 215 to the 415".....thanks for helping us make some wonderful memories!!

Authentic and very good grill restaurant.

Authentic and very good grill restaurant in one of the least touristy areas of San Francisco. The meat is very tasty and well cooked. The owner is very friendly.

Best BBQ in San Francisco

Went to Baby Blues with some friends visiting from England. We got a huge platter of Ribs, brisket, sausage and chicken. There was about 10 adults and 4 kids with us. Along with the excellent meats we could pick a bunch of side dishes. Collard greens, potatoes, mac n cheese, corn on the cob... Great beers and atmosphere. The service was friendly, relaxed and attentive. There was even another guest playing a ukulele! So much fun with great food!!

Great BBQ spot to watch the game

By Vicki Y |

Good food and a great spot to watch a football or baseball game. I'm a fan of their ribs and the cornbread!

ok but it's a long way from the city

By Aussnowboarder |

The staff were really nice and explained the different types of ribs. The memphis ribs were tasty and moderately tender. I've learnt that in San Francisco the ribs are not meant to be fall off the bone tender. They hold their shape on the bone and you use a serrated knife to cut them. After being educated on this point, I accepted it was about the smokiness and taste. For that I would give them a high 8 out of ten. The cornbread smelt and tasted like they were mixed in a bowl that had prawn heads steamed in them. Unfortunately I could not palate this style of cornbread. The cane cola was nice to drink. I had to use buses to get out here, so it is a trek from the city. If you are a rib afficionado you may give it a try but for my friends, I would say to them, save yourself a journey

I ENJOYED the meal. The baby back ribs and smoked chicken were good. You definitely want to try the Pig Candy. It's so good. The mac&cheese tastes way better than it looks. The corn bread was not so good though. But, I'll definitely go back.

A place for people who do not know any better!

Pro: 1.Portions 2. Service was great, the waiter ( skinny guy with tattoos) was awesome!!! Con: 1. Flavor- We had the Ribs and Brisket which lacked flavor. The BBQ sauce was was not what you would expect if you have had good sauce before. There attempt at corn bread was the worst. It did not even look like corn bread. The mack and cheese had no flavor at all. 2. Cleanliness- Table were sticky 3. Pricey - for the taste of the food. 4. Do not eat here if you have had good BBQ before. If you have not then go ahead you will not know the difference.

Really good BBQ N SF

By Steven B |

Great BBQ in the Mission of SF. Fun place to hang and have some great pulled pork & ribs. Good slaw and fries as well. Liked it all plain, want a big fan of the sauces offered, mostly vinegar based which is not my preference, but everything is cooked perfectly and didn't use the sauces, still delicious. Casual atmosphere, good for a met up with friends. Good with the kids as well. Nice friendly attentive staff.

There’s way better BBQ in SF

By Stephanie G |

We have tried Baby Blues like 4-6 times now and I have been seriously disappointed each time. The brisket is decent but they always run out, the pulled pork is fatty, the ribs are tough and dry. There’s several better options for bbq in SF — Memphis Minnie’s and Southpaw for example — and there are several better food options in this neighborhood. So, if you’re looking for good BBQ go elsewhere (I’m from NC so consider myself a good judge in this department) and if you’re just in this neighborhood looking for food, go to Front Porch or Emmys or Fumi or something.

Unforgettable experience

Your better half drags you into vegan places one after another? You’re sick of selfie-taking hipsters in skinny jeans drinking matcha-lattes? You’ve had enough ginger-turmeric shots to get healthy? Then look no further and go to Paul’s place, Baby Blues BBQ! Seriously good meat and a great choice of draft beers will make you feel welcomed! The restaurant has a very relaxing atmosphere and nice interior. We had also a really nice chat and could get some great advice for our remaining trip to Hawaii. Apart from this the food was outstanding. If you’re unsure, go for the tasting platter. The sauces are also awesome. 100% recommendation.

Neighborhood bbq

By SanFranciscotoLDM |

I always hesitate to review our local haunts because we still, you know, want to get a table ourselves, but this little gem deserves it. We've been here a handful of times and always enjoy our bbq. I go for the bbq'd shrimp and greens and the kids like pretty much everything especially the wings. The salmon was a bit dry once but that's the only miss, I think. For people who like beer there are lots of choices and for those of us who don't drink beer there's a yummy hard cider. There are only a few tables though, and large private-y one around the corner in the back.

This is the place to go if you are up for a genuine bbq dinner. Great sides. We normally go the 6 ppl order. You´ll get something of all. It is awesome - truly. The cut brisket is to die for but my family members also love the pulled brisket. The links are my favorite also. The BBQ sauses are awesome. Also please remeber to try their IPA from "St floiran" best IPA i had.

Good honest food

Great service and a good menu made this an ideal place for an early dinner with young children. Nothing fancy, but friendly and prompt service.

Amazing food

On a recent trip to San Francisco we ate some wonderful food throughout the trip. The highlight was definitely the meal at Baby Blues BBQ, it was absolutely terrific, delicious food. Bar setting with a good atmosphere and friendly (quirky) staff. Great music playing and a bit out of the ordinary in terms of decor, loved it!

Such a huge disappointment...

By Amandine R |

I ordered the pork candy as a starter, which are supposed to be caramelized pieces of bacon... I got 3 greasy slices, absolutely covered with pepper (not mentionned on the menu!!!!), not caramelized. I then ordered baby back ribs, with corn bread and mac n cheese... the ribs had virtually no meat on them, were extremely dry and overcooked, the corn bread had a very weird taste and the mac n cheese had a nice taste, but looked like they had been regurgitated and were watery... I came there because of the good reviews on a site comparing ribs in SF because I love them, so I have eaten quite a few... but in this restaurant... gosh, I wished I never came there, and paying more than 30 dollars for that (lack of) quality... is an absolute rip off. I don't mind paying that price, and more, for something good. I should have known no to go when there was NO ONE in the room !!! Maybe they have changed chef... because any chef who is proud of his work would never serve what I have been served today. The inside also seems to be decrepit a bit... Nice waiter though... So basically, avoid !!

Cozy neighborhood bbq

By David OConnor |

Nice comfortable bbq in the Mission where staff greets many locals who patronize this corner landmark. They really specialize in tasty Memphis style ribs, not fall off the bone type, and tender sliced brisket. Their excellent sauces bring up the flavor of the meats. Their sides are deep south recipes. Fried Okra, spicy collard greens, brown sugar laden sweet potatoes, and delicious banana pudding. The menu includes large feedbags for 6 to 40 people that feature their many smoked entrees and sides. Try their brewed sweet tea- better than most others you will find. Very cool bar spread with first come first serve seating. Would return!!!!

Surprisingly good BBQ in CA

We were in the mood for bbq, and having lived int NC and TX, did not expect too much, but were very pleasantly surprised. Delicious pork ribs, nice and lean, and interesting sauces. Not for vegans!

Supper at Baby Blues

By Andrew T |

In the Mission area of San Francisco , this is a great noisy BBQ restaurant . They have a liquor license and loud rock music but my grandchildren loved the place. Simple seating at rough wooden tables. We had the smoked chicken , ribs , brisket served with Cole slaw , sweet potatoes and fries. There was enough for 7 people and then some , but not cheap. All the food was delicious and we even took home some uneaten wings. No room for the banana or bread pudding dessert.

Great BBQ!!

By PeterEfromNJ |

Who doesn't love BBQ? And this place has it all. Of the three very disparate restaurants (ramen, Guamanian & BBQ) I ate at on my last visit to San Fran, this is the one I'd come back to in a heartbeat. Everything was smokey, delicious and falling off the bone -- just as barbeque should. Baby Blues offers a big space, cold beer, friendly service and reasonable prices. The only problem I detected is that Baby Blues is a little off the track hidden in the outskirts of the Mission District. Nevertheless, I recommend a succulent visit!

Great pulled beef brisket!

By Greg M |

Old establishment, simple, good food. 5 people visited, trying 4 different kinds of beer / cider & 4 different meals including chicken, shrimp, beef brisket & a burger. Everyone was pleased with the meal.

Great BBQ

Had dinner at Baby Blues BBQ the other night. Loved the brisket, baby back ribs and catfish. They also have a great beer selection. It was a lively room with great service. Definitely going back.

Poor food and service.

By jimmyah |

Was part of a large group of more than 20 and was disappointed with the food quality. The salads were disgusting and the food wasn't explained to us so we didn't know what we were eating. Drink service was slow. Might be different in a smaller group, but I don't recommend for larger groups.

Melt-in-your-mouth ribs

By wanderingourmand |

This humble BBQ place on Mission St. in SF has true slow-cooked ribs that actually melt in your mouth right off the bone! All the meats are excellent, but the baby backs are superb. They have a variety of BBQ sauces on the table, ranging from mild to spicy (though none of them will take the hair off the skin of your teeth). The baked bean side is an tasty combination of several types of beans, not your standard Boston baked. A nice surprise was the cola, a brand called Boylan which is made with real cane suger.

Child size portions

By Scott |

Food is good. BBQ ribs were very tasty. fries were home cut and cooked fresh. I asked for them extra crispy, and they came out that way. But the portion sizes are child sizes. Half rack of ribs was less than 4 oz of actual meat. Side order of fries came out in a tiny cup. Beverage comes out in a small 12 oz bottle. Even the amount of ice in the glass was Tiny. Servers were friendly and service was relatively fast. There are much better places in San Francisco to get ribs. If they double the serving size I'd come back.
