Worst BBQ ever. Tough, chewy ribs I wouldn't give a dog. Pulled pork, maybe, as it was hidden underneath both fat and charred something. Potato salad or what they called potato salad. Cold french fries as they sat at the counter with no service to find you and deliver in rooms for 65 guests though a dozen there at lunch time at most. Last time for this place for us.

One of my favorite barbacue spots! An excellent rub, sauce and smoke! Must try!

We love coming back here whenever we can; the barbeque is the best. There aren't better fried pies anywhere. They have several sugar-free flavors that are delicious, too. Friendly, fun, and fine food.

Just a cheap place to eat BBQ. Super slow and indifferent service, paper plates and canteen style service. But dang the ribs were good

This place was across the street from us, which meant I could always smell the smoke from the meat day in and day out - making me crave their food non stop! Their portions are huge, their prices cheap, their food AMAZING! Meat and more meat done in a variety of ways and all served with their delicious smokey bbq sauce. Definitely go to this place, the staff are also very friendly!

Baker's Ribs in Deep Ellum is a good place for ribs and pork in downtown Dallas. During daytime, one can park on the street for free. At nightime is when meters have to be fed. Don't park on the side of the restaurant, by the painted pig on the side wall. This area does not belong to the restaurant and cars are towed away. Baker's is actually telling their customers to watch out for this with a sign on their door. The Brisket may be a bit dry but with a bit of bbq sauce, which is kept warm all the time, it is quite tasty. We thought the best were the ribs and the pork, though. The staff are very friendly. Although the place may seem a bit empty at lunch time on mid-week, there is a steady flow of customers coming in, buying sandwiches or takeaways all the time. Notice the police cars parked by the restaurant. This is a good sign! Don't be put off by the outside appearance, this is a great place in Dallas. Last but not least, note therer are several Baker's in DAllas, but it was the Commerce Street restaurant the one which was listed in the Top 50 best Texan BBQ restaurants by the Texas Monthly magazine in 2008.

I was in town for a conference and looked for a place to eat BBQ close by downtown. This isn't immediately downtown but was a 5 minute drive. The prices were very reasonable and the meat was really good. They also have fabulous "fried pies" available. I got the Pecan pie and I should've gotten a few of the frozen ones to take home. They also have free ice cream for the kiddos (or you). Beer is available in the cooler. They had some local brews available.

Dallas enjoys a wide panorama of barbecue, including entire dynasties of smokers. That said, traditional dining venues like Deep Ellum and downtown have one locus: Baker's. In their new digs at Main&Hall, the light fresh dining room offers thick rib platters, big potatoes and plenty of alternatives to bbq beans (not that there's anything wrong with that). The home commute, a nearby Baylor sojourn, or an introduction to BBQ 101, Baker's exceeds that need. At this new location: Fried Pies!!! Made fresh, these enjoy true fillings like cherry, lemon, blackberry, chocolate and coconut. Wait, I forgot peach! Worth the trip. Clean tables, an outside patio, on the quiet end of Main. Walk from Baylor or Ellum DART station.

I love Baker’s! Everything is outstanding: friendly staff, cleanliness, price, and the quality of the food is the best. Down-to-earth, unpretentious, real food for real people. Went three times in four days on my last business trip. Bakers makes Dallas wonderful for me. OTH I gain 5-10 pounds in a week. That’s on me!

Texas is proud of their bbq so I was looking forward to experiencing this local eatery. Flying Pig painted on the outside brick wall and a pile of wood near a large smoker promised a bit more than what was delivered. Small main floor space when you walk in with an aged walk up counter to order at. Most of the seating is on the roof via the stairs but it does offer an odd but effective ambiance to the overall vibe. A number of options both by the combo or pound. Brisket, Pulled Pork, Ribs, Chicken and a number of sides ranging from French Fries and beans to pasta salad. Texas toast is a welcome add, not amazing but when they ask if you want it, say yes. Makes a good mop up when your plate is done. Fried Pies are a very local favorite and come in a number of flavors. Fountain drinks are the mainstays with a few options in a cooler. Beer was nicely chilled. The smoke on the meat is good having sampled the ribs, chopped brisket and pork. The biggest flaw was the temperature. All of the meat was about room temperature. I understand the desire not to dry out the meat but there is a certain amount of general warmth that you need to have for a variety of reasons. This was a theme with ten out of th e eleven plates we ordered. Overall the ribs had the most flavor and were bite tender, pulling away like bbq should but not falling apart. The pork was a worthy offering but not standout. The chopped brisket was the least successful with a very high fat to meat ratio. In fairness one of my party ordered about 10 min later than the rest of us and had some nice lean warm slices. I think our offering was too much the case of bad timing and trying to get a few more plates out of the scrap before cutting into a new brisket. Fries were very good, pasta salad uneventful, mac and cheese was pretty standard. This was one of those places that you walked up thinking this will have that old school bbq pedigree but left us kind of "meh". Had the food been hot, the sides given more attention and the staff been engaging this could have been four stars, unfortunately it fell to the realm of mediocre.

Went out for dinner at bakers ribs on Main Street with some friends and can't be happier, great quality food , excellent prices and an amazing venue ! The staff were very accommodating 👌🏽would highly recommend and be back again when visiting dallas from Australia 😀

We were in Dallas for the weekend and came here Saturday night to grab some BBQ...everything was awesome. The food was great, I had the pulled pork, great value, great service!!

ok

Here it is Memorial weekend and I have a choice. I can either go to Soulmans's BBQ or Baker's Ribs BBQ. So I thought for a minute and decided on Bakers Ribs ( wanted their fried pies) / Mouth was watering for Ribs . Now I will tell you that I don't eat ribs very seldom because I feel that ribs or a waste because after all you paying for a lots of bone right? Ok so I told them that I was wanting an order of delicious ribs. I got it to go which is always a mistake because you can't always turn around and drive all the way back if your not happy . Well, I was I was not happy with the ribs. I could not chew them and they were very tough. The sides we ok and the peach pie was good . If you want sugar free pies you have to go to another of there restaurants since they do not offer them any more. Perhaps the other Bakers Ribs are good but this one I do not recommend for ribs.

They have multiple locations in Dallas area. I like downtown location and Greenville avenue. Ribs are great, but you must try a fried pie. If you have never had one ..indulge yourself, they are not low cal.

I love BBQ! Makes me excited to try new places as i travel. I originally planned on visiting a different place a few blocks away but they were closed. I ordred a half pound of sausage, brisket and ribs of course. The "Texas Trio." The sausage is nothing special. Its eckrich sausage. I should not have to review that. The brisket was over cooked and dry. The Ribs were very flavorful but were preped horribly! They didnt remove the membrane off the back so the ribs were chewy and got stuck in between my teeth. The rub on the rib was great though. Place could be a landmark if they would take a few steps and have a little passion for their product.

Love the Arts District...and they were friendly and offered a great value. More food than we could eat for $10.00! It was near closing so we were sent out with hot cobbler and fried pies! Yummy! And...customers get free soft serve ice cream! Will def be back!

We were looking for authentic Texas BBQ, and this place was recommended. The staff were super friendly and were jumping all over themselves to help us, and the place had a nice homey vibe. The BBQ isn’t the best I’ve had. I was turned off by the amount of fat, gristle, etc left on the pulled pork. Also the pulled pork wasn’t pulled, it was chopped which isn’t the same thing. The bbq sauce wasn’t nearly thick enough so it wasn’t really sticking to the meat well when you put it on. Also, the French fries were oddly sweet, but none of us could figure out why. The potato salad was good. The pies were sooo delicious, though. Got a fried peach pie. I’d go back for the pie and try it in all flavors.

in town and asked at our hotel where we could go for some ribs/bbq - and this place came highly recommended. it was just right. wouldnt call it a "hole in the wall" but it is folksy. go through the line and order what you want - went with the brisket, ribs, mac-n -cheese, and green beans. wow - fantastic. briskey was flavored just right and was very moist. ribs were meaty and tender. everything was done really well. staff is engaging and friendly. price was really good as well. two of us ate for under $30 and the portions were huge - probably should have split a plate. highly recommend

I was on a trip through Texas and thought here is a last chance for some great Tx bbq. I got a bbq pork sandwich, my litmus test for BBQ. The amount served was good but the flavor of the meat and of the bbq sauce was not anything special. The service was prompt, price reasonable. I went to the Garland Tx restaurant. They had picnic tables out back and inside. I should have kept driving

On my visit I had brisket and sausage and a side of BBQ beans. This isn't fine dining but the food is fantastic. How good is it? There were 6 police cars outside with Dallas' finest on their lunch break. Great BBQ with real friendly staff. Highly recommended.

I ordered the ribs with sides of mac'n'cheese and fried okra and a dessert peanut butter and chocolate fried pie. Heavenly!!! Every single bite was amazing, and I was soooo full for hours! Highly recommended!

It was great to take some of my fellow foreign visitors to an authentic rib house. It's superclean and the food is crazy tasty. Their beans are probably the pick of the bunch.

I wouldn't go back again. The customer service quality is rude/poor, the food quality isn't fresh nor good. I would recommend going to another BBQ place. The employees treat you with disrespect. This was my first time going there and the manager of the place went beyond my comfort zone after trying to leave the place. The food isn't served warm. It's served cold. The brisket isn't flavorful. Dickies is the recommended BBQ place to go to.

We both got the house special sandwich plate. The actual bbq was okay, the Mac and cheese/ baked beans were very good! They don’t have normal sodas, but they’re house made and the cream soda was great. Get an ice cream cone on the way out it was yummy!

Excellent food, very friendly service, great roof top views! We had the rib platter with sides of tomato, macaroni and cheese and peach cobbler. Everything was delicious and portions were good👍 Very friendly servers👍👍

Different atmosphere than I expected but it was nice. The ribs were a bit greasy but had a good flavor. The sandwich was very good but I prefer a white hamburger type bun rather than a wheat bun. Again...I'd go back. :)

Went in on a locals recommendation with my husband and 2 teenagers after a day of sightseeing in Dealy Plaza. The owner couldn't have been nicer, offering recommendations, and giving us samples. The meats were all tender and flavorful, each better than the next. We had them all!! The french fries were perfectly seasoned, crispy and hot. And the potato salad was creamy and so good... so was the cheesy creamy mac and cheese...best of all they had free self serve icy ice cream-- our boys couldn't get enough!! Atmosphere was fun and relaxed, sitting on the street side patio. The owner even gave us some the cherry pie on the house. Even though I was stuffed i could not resist eating it, it was awesome. Overall it was a great food experience. We definitely recommend it, wish we had a Bakers Ribs back in MD!

While visiting one my favorite cities I decided to take my husband out for some good southern cooking. My husband is very particular when it comes to eating so I selected Bakers Ribs. We ordered the brisket and ribs. It was fantastic with Mac and cheese along with Texas toast. The sauce had just enough spice. If you eat in the dining room Donald will be there to greet you with a smile and I guarantee you will be back.

Great Texas BBQ in Deep Ellum location. Everything's good. Don't know what to get? Get the ribs. Burgers are good too, sandwiches and don't forget to try a fried pie. Free soft-serve ice-cream for desert.

Even better than Grandma used to make because these are fried in peanut oil. Every single flavor melts in your mouth, and even the crust is delectable (I almost always throw crusts away, but not here!). I've tried the serves-as-a-meal Tex-Mex one, and it filled me full. The cherry, apricot, and peach are all fabulous in my mouth ;-) My husband will vouch for the chocolate, which is what started our quest for the pies to begin with, and he also likes the coconut, pecan, and apple. When we arrived in time breakfast, he chose the sausage, egg, and cheese. He said it was perfection. There's a pineapple waiting for me in the freezer, now, which I can hardly wait to try. Like the location in the Arbuckles Mountains, near Turner Falls, these pies are fabulous. Try both locations; you won't be sorry.

I went here on a recommendation of a Dallas local and was not disappointed. The ribs were outsanding and the meat fell right off the bone. The potato salad was the whitest I have ever seen and it was delicious too.

I've been eating at Baker's Ribs for at least 10 years, and their ribs and brisket are among the best in Dallas. Excellent side dishes as well; their beans and potato salad are among the best I've had. Drawbacks: I love pulled pork and have tried theirs twice and both times the pork was gamey and I sent it back. My wife almost became physically ill and refuses to eat there anymore. Also, who likes to eat on styrofoam plates with plastic forks and knives? Not me - this keeps me from going more often. Also, I think people in Texas like to serve their own side dishes. Most barbecue restaurants we go to allow customers to serve up their own side dishes - that's probably why we go to Spring Creek and Soulman's more often. Their meat isn't as good as Baker's, but the dining experience is better. Every time I go to Baker's Ribs the place is nearly empty - I eat mostly at the Garland and Rowlett locations. Yet Spring Creek is nearly full most times we are there. Lose the plastic dinnerware and let folks serve up their own side dishes and you will get a lot more business.

The section of the store where they make the pies is open for breakfast. I got a brisket, egg and cheese taco and it was awesome! They'll also make fresh fried pies with breakfast fillings (or normal). I tried a pulled pork pie and it was really filling. I didn't think to grab any BBQ sauce to go with it.

We've been coming to Baker's Ribs since we first discovered it on Zagat back in 1999. When we first came, it was the best we'd ever had. I'm not sure if it's not as good as it used to be, or if we've just had better BBQ since then. I digress. The pulled pork was very juicy, with a nice crust - and the sauce, which is always served hot was very good. As always I had the potato salad, which is not your average mustard-based affair, but is a white potato salad - called 'dill potato salad' I think. The price used to be excellent, but today, for two pork sandwich specials, and a kids sandwich special, it was over 35 dollars. A bit more than what I wanted to spend for a lunch. On a side note, the wind storms knocked out the power just as we were about to get our complimentary ice cream cone. I was sad.

Baker's Ribs, located just east of downtown Dallas is east it get to and, unlike most downtown restaurants, has ample parking. Initially, we drove past the restaurant, but after driving a few blocks, we decided to go back and try it for lunch; were not disappointed. The ribs were juicy, tender, and had a nice smoky flavor. The sides were also very tasty, especially the cole slaw. The restaurant is comfortable, with lots of seating and is very clean. Very friendly an knowledgable chef explained the different cuts of meat and how they were prepared. The pecan pie was a nice topper to the barbecue lunch.

I have been eating at Baker's since the early 90's. It is consistent and delicious. The food and service are exceptional, Donald always greets us with a smile and friendly hello. The fried pies are worth grabbing even if you can't eat it right after all that BBQ!The soda is locally made by a company in Oak Cliff. Make sure to grab one of the complimentary ice cream cones before you go!

This is a fantastic place to go, it smells like heaven when you walk in. you have to try the stuffed baked potato!!! their brisket is fantastic and they do have the best potato salad ever

Several locations serving up passable BBQ. Their ribs are good.

Stopped in while I was visiting Dallas and I wanted to have some good BBQ. The brisket here was fantastic as were the sides, I had to have a double helping of the mac and cheese. The decor is funky and the atmosphere is very relaxed, perfect for eating barbecue on a hot day. Definitely worth your while to visit if you're in Dallas!

We went to Baker's Ribs in downtown Dallas. We ordered Brisket and Ribs at the counter, with a giant baked potato. The food was fantastic. The Brisket melted in our mouths. The Ribs were also good. Since it was a late noon, the staff were eating as well, and they got very excited to learn that we came from the "Holy Land".

This was actually my second choice. My first pick had just closed. I certainly don't feel like I lost out. Even though this was a take-out order, and I didn't actually start eating it for an hour, the chicken was juicy and cooked very nicely. The ribs were very good, too. Thought the combo was priced reasonably, too. Oh, there's free ice cream here, too.

Loved the ribs and the brisket. Sauce is exactly as I like it. Best bbq that I have eaten in the Dallas area although I have yet to try the place at the Farmers Market that everyone is raving about.

Brisket and their veggies is what I expected to enjoy the most. But the ribs knocked me out. So smoky and delicious. The two salads were also top notch. Friendly people too. Lots of parking and even an upper deck for niece skyline views.

The place looks like a renovated garage-real funky and well done. I try BBQ where ever I travel and learned learned about good BBQ while I was dating the man who is now my husband. This was the perfect combination for me, pulled pork that fell apart on its own, sauce a little sweet and thick, a little spicy, a little smokey but not too much of any one of the three. All the sides were well done.

Extremely well priced BBQ. Brisket was tender, sauce was not too sweet. Very home style restaurant. My dining companions really enjoyed the ribs-fell off the bones. Great variety of sides. I think the potato salad is the best I have had in years. We went on a Friday night and while the take out was busy we were the only ones in the restaurant side. Service was a bit slow, but very friendly. Just a short walk from many hotels. I would highly recommend it.

Worst barbecue meal money can buy. $16.00 for a to go order of what should be food but was trash can filler. Don’t go there!

My wife and I were very disappointed with the food, and the parking was terrible. We were in Dallas for personal business, and had eaten at Baker's Ribs in the past, when they were located on Greenville Ave. We always enjoyed eating at the Greenville location. The BBQ was outstanding. However, this location does not compare to the old facility, as it relates to the food, environment, and overall service level.

We ate at Bakers Ribs on a busy night when an Art Fair was held on an adjacent street. To be fair, we only found Baker;s by accident as the restaurant we had set out for was sold out, The people at the counter were very eager to please, and helped us quickly. You could tell that it had been a long day - the Fair had brought in a tremendous number of people. They were very pleasant, especially considering that this was on the late side. The brisket was good - not great on this particular night - but as I mentioned, they were so busy that it probably is not fair to judge based on this one trip. The restaurant had a nice setup and good menu - if back in Dallas I wouldn't mind trying it again.

I was able to snag a little piece of meat but my braces have basically ruined eating ribs for me for a while. But what I did taste was awesome! I ended up ordering a stuffed baked potato (the skin of which is covered in coarse salt & pepper!), which had shredded brisket and barbecue sauce on it. The fried okra and green beans were a tasty side. I just wish I'd been able to finish it all! Was it the best barbecue I've ever had? No. But it was better than a lot I've tried.

Despite the name, the brisket here is the best item. It's got a good smoky flavor, like genuine barbeque should have. The ribs are pretty good but not standout. The sides are decent. The place isn't fancy, it's cafeteria-style service, but the staff are friendly and I find it a pretty enjoyable place to have some of the better barbeque to be found in Dallas.

Very good BBG and super nice people. A little funky, but from experience that's were I want to be! Ribs, Brisket, Slaw, potato salad were supper. BUT save room for a fried pie. I know, might sound funky, but live on the edge!

After dinner we wanted to try the fried pies everyone was talking about. WOW. They are delicious. Flaky crust and warm filling. The peach and blackberry were the best. Only 3.50 each so a cheap dessert.

Good Barbeque

Ordered half pound ribs and a half pound brisket. I was there for the BBQ and did not want to be distracted by sides. My partner did however order 2 sides - potato salad and mac and cheese. The potato salad was quite good as I did steal a taste. I found the brisket to be tasty but a bit on the dry side. Used the BBQ sauce (they give you a warm bottle to take to your table, I enjoyed the sauce) to rehydrate the meat and this seemed to work but I wish it was just moist in the first place. It was the ribs that were a disappointment. They were leathery and chewy like they had been sitting around too long and had dried out. I did not eat half of my order because of this. Like others have said, it was well priced and the people were nice but these two things would not be enough of a draw to return.

Amazing and they deliver!

For a chain, this place offers surprisingly good BBQ. And it is very close to downtown so it is a crowd pleasing quick jaunt for lunch. All of the BBQ is good, but I guess it goes without saying that you should order the namesake ribs. Hmm, getting hungry just thinking about it...

While in Dallas, we wanted some true Texas Barbeque. Not overpriced like many of the bbq places, very affordable. Like most texan bbq it wasn't so much about the sauce as it is the meat. My girlfriend got the sandwich and I had the ribs/chopped beef. Some of the best barbeque i have had in my life. Anybody looking for a great place to eat, go to Baker's

I've written some reviews where I've noted the restaurant is almost as good as Texas BBQ, but this is the real thing. The brisket is good, moist and tasty, the sausage is some of the best I've had, and of course, the ribs, succulent and meaty. The first time I ate there I had seen the ribs so I ordered the brisket and sausage. Both were as I described above. I had the macaroni and cheese (full of smoky cheese - excellent, and some home made fries). The cook brought me a rib when he found out that's what I really wanted. I came back two days later just for the ribs! This is real Texas BBQ that no one will be disappointed with. Although I couldn't hold it, they had homemade fried pies that looked wonderful and complimentary ice cream.

Had the 3 meat combo plate with ribs, brisket and pulled pork. Had the mac and cheese and baked beans for my sides with texas toast. Everything was great. The brisket with very juicy and if I wasnt in public I would have done a dance whilst eating the stuff. Got a little cocky and ordered a fried lemon pie too. Couldnt even consider eating it until the next morning....dang it was a tasty pie.

Use to go to the old location before they down Main st. Great to see the same staff around. Food is Always good and affordable. Everything is great!

Dallas has pretty lousy bbq. Bakers is about the only place worth going in town, if not the greatest its at least pretty solid.

I like the chicken sandwich here, because I can have bbq and not feel like I've blown my diet. The sauce is tangy and good. Price is right.

I arrived twenty minutes before closing time and was greeted and welcomed to place an order. After describing how I flew in from San Diego for some good Bar-B-Que they set me up with the house rib plate. The guys did not disappoint me! The meat fell off the bone! Add the special sauce to the rib and the flavor pops! Great food, fantastic atmosphere, easy location to find and priced right. I would definitely go during regular busines hours next time!

not good barbecue

Baker's Ribs in Deep Ellum is one of my favorite Texas BBQ restaurants!!! The baked potato with chopped beef on top is delicious! Around $8.75! Easy to get to and free parking, it is so fast, faaasssstttt and really good quality!!! I rate this 5 stars because it is one of the best tasting BBQ in Texas just as good as Up in Smoke! Wicked fried pies! Oh man it is so wicked I cheap at least once a week and go for it! Great atmosphere, seat yourself, self serve ice cream at the end is free! BBQ...BBQ...where are you? In Dallas in Deep Ellum go get it!

Come on, how can you not give this place 5 stars? Everything is great. Try the combo for lunch, everything on it is wonderful. Lots of bbq places have mushy or fatty pork and overly dry beef. Not here. That really know how.

Baker's Ribs BBQ is really a great value for the money. The menu choices are good and prices very reasonable. Chopped beef is yummy, add their sauce and it's a good as any I've ever had. The chicken is moist and flavorful. The baked potato is delicious. Fried pies for the brave ones with an appetite. The Deep Ellum restaurant is charming, well staffed, well run and friendly! Great value and quality!

In the shadow of the old Cotton Bowl lies one of the very best BBQ places I have ever eaten at. This tiny little old building is easy to miss, but its worth the trip. We went there witha local, well after the offical lunch hour, and were greeted with fresh food, bug smiles, and a great value! I had the chopped beef, potato sald, mac & cheese and Texas Toast. Everything was excellent! Best of all was the warm BBQ sauce they give you and the potato salad. I would have sworn my beloved mother made it, it was outstanding. Everything was very, very good. My wife had the ribs and she literally was licking her fingers. Excellent and inexpensive!

Everything we had was terrific!!! And the service was wonderful...very friendly!!! Our fav bbq in Dallas. We will go back very soon!!!!!!!

I had the two meat combo for lunch, and it was terrific. I enjoyed eating outside (under cover - it was pouring!), and both the brisket and pulled pork were fork tender, smokey and delicious. I will definitely return the next time I'm in Dallas!
OMG BBQ!
Our last stop in Dallas and it was a great choice! Order / pay at the front counter and then find a table. Everyone was very nice and helpful, since they realized we were not from the area ( probably our lack of knowing their ordering process ). It was like the episode from Seinfeld but there were no soup nazi just great staff making great BBQ. You could see all customers were locals. Our group of 6 ordered the pulled pork sandwiches which came with 2 sides ( Mac & Cheese and baked beans ), also ordered the brisket which was equaling amazing. BBQ sauce that was offered was tangy. Reasonably priced, our family bill for 6 was around $50...which I think was a good deal! Baker's also has free soft served ice cream. After lunch we got our ice cream and headed to the roof top. The view along with the smoked smells was a nice finish to our visit. Hidden Gem that you should seek out and try.
