A pearl of a place!

By steelpanwoman |

My husband and I visited Bali Cafe after reading reviews on Yelp. After recently visiting Indonesia, we had a strong hankering for Balinese food and at Bali Cafe we had a happy remembrance. The hole in the wall atmosphere and the ambience reminded me of many small Warungs in Bali, and the food was to die for! At 11:30 on a Saturday morning everything was very fresh(they told us the soup they made was not ready yet, but the salad was to die for) Can't wait to go back!

Fabulous Indonesian Food

By mollyd123 |

OK, so when we saw the reviews for this place, I called 10 minutes before it closed. "Is it too late to come by?" I wondered. "We're only a block away." "Please come!" said the friendly gentleman who answered the phone. So we did, and we ate our faces off. Highly reccomend the lumpia appetizer and the Nasi Goreng special, that gives you a sample of several dishes. Beautifully presented and incredibly yummy. To be clear, this is not a fancy restaurant. This is a place you go to get to try out a delicious cuisine with people who are clearly taking great pride in sharing it. That said, it's a cool atmosphere, decorated with a sort of funky chic sensibility. Let it be also noted that even though we were worried about keeping the folks there past closing, they could not have been more gracious. They urged us to take our time. Highly reccomend this wonderful spot for anyone visiting downtown Miami!

Great Indonesian food for very reasonable price

By ablasen57 |

We found this place via an article in Miami New Times online on cheap eats in Miami. The interior is very casual and modest, but definitely worth the visit. I ordered the Nasi Goreng special which consists of 6 little meat, rice and vegetable preparations in their little compartments, kind of like a Bento box. It had some of the best shredded beef I've ever eaten - the server said it is cooked for 6 hours. They accommodated my wife's request for meatless Nasi Goreng by making with shrimp. The service was excellent and the prices very reasonable. An added bonus - they are a short distance from the MetroMover so we didn't even have to drive and park.

Nasi Goreng galore

By Tom Z |

Rijs stafel (dutch for Rice table) and nasi goreng were very good. Two Sambal Olek (hot sauces) a necessary compliment to fully enjoy these Indonesian dishes. Bravo.

Surprisingly good little hide-away

By Jaimie C |

This tiny hidden nook in downtown Miami does not seem like it would have much to offer, but don't let the small size fool you. This hidden gem has great Indonesian food, and each unique dish has a wonderful array of taste surprises. We tried the Shrimp Dumplings, Beef Rendang Sapi, Fish Ilan Pesmol, Fish Goreng Balado, Seaweed Salad, Dinner Salad, the vegetarian Gado Gado and Chicken Ayam Bumbu Kecap. For dessert we tried the Purple Yam ice cream, layer cake, and avocado smoothy. All in all a very different and yummy experience.

Surprisingly good Indonesian Food

By Daniel L |

Having come from Asia, I always have a craving for asian food especially when we can find really authentic restaurant. This restaurant was no different, having searched what type of restaurant was nearby out hotel, we made a note and read the reviews. Overall, food is great and the taste is very very close to being authentic probably with a slight modification to suit local tastebud, aka. not too spicy.

Expectation could be better..

By susi23 |

I looked over internet to find my favorite food on my vacation. I found this place that I want to try my appetite. I like the food and the special drink on the menu. But I thought I could find The Balinese food ones. I felt they could offer better hospitality on serving the customer, like Balinese or Indonesian that famous with their custom and hospitality.

Expected more

By MrVanes |

The salad was very nice. I thought we were off to a good start. The Sateh Ajam came through. The chicken was ok but the sauce, still trying to figure out what it was. The Gado Gado, oh how I love that plate, consisted of overcooked vegetables. They're supposed to be bleached. No sign of some raw crispy greens like sliced cucumbers. Topped off with some sauce that made the whole dish have some weird sweet aftertaste. No sign of the usually included boiled eggs or peanut sauce. It was topped off with some tasteless variety of Krupuk (pressed and deep fried shrimp cookies). No sign of fried shallot or emping. The Nasi Goreng (fried rice) also had a so-so taste. I think they can do a much better job.

Tasty food and friendly service

By SeemiPal |

This is a small place serving delicious Indonesian food. There is only one server but he is extremely friendly and efficient. Service is fast! Very reasonably priced. All-in-all it was a very nice experience. Don't forget to keep cash since they don't accept cards.

Delicious & Wonderful!

I have only been here twice and I'm dying to go back. The food is incredible, and I highly recommend getting the family meal which offers an assortment of Indonesian dishes and gives you a complete experience in culinary delights.

Downtown Miami Go-To Asian Spot

Definitely one of my favorites. The staff nice, and great Indonesian food to enjoy. They even have some tasty sushi too! The beef rendang is mighty delicious, got to try it.

Excellent Indonesian food in Miami

By junkscience89 |

We really miss Indonesian food since moving to Latin America. Bali Cafe offers a good selection of classic Indonesian dishes. We ordered the Nasi Goreng which includes a small portion of the Beef Rendang and the Soto Ayam and over it was excellent. Definitely worth a visit if you are in Miami.

Worth the 1 hour drive for me, will go again

By BocaJo |

My daughter is moving to Indonesia soon, so we wanted to try an Indonesian restaurant to get a foretaste. Bali Cafe, the closest one to our home, was a 1 hour drive from our home. Wow, was it ever worth it! It was the most fascinating, colorful, delightful lunch in recent memory. Everything seemed exotic, starting with the menus mounted on wooden boards, to the waiters in sarongs, to the decor. Yet it's unpretentious at the same time. Our waiter truly took an interest in my daughter's planned move, telling her what he knew about the city where she's moving, and even teaching her an Indonesian phrase or two. We shared Nasi Goreng (Indonesian Fried Rice) and Ayam Bumbu Kecap (Grilled chicken breast with sweet soy sauce), and some Indonesian drinks that I can't recall the names of. Everything was delicious, and not too spicy for our American palates (though there was a bowl of sambal ulek on the table to spice things up). The beef randang part of the Nasi Goreng was so good that I ordered another portion to take home. In spite of the distance, I'm planning to return with a friend next month. CAUTION: Prices are reasonable, but be prepared with CASH ONLY.

The Bali Cafe is a small venue with decent service and great Indonesian food in Greater Downtown Miami. The place is always busy at lunchtime so plan accordingly.

Best of Bali

By Anne Marie J. TheChef |

This is one of the best hideaway restaurants where the food is truly Balinese. Very small, not a place in keeping with the Miami scene. But I always seek the obsecure. The satay w a peanut, chutney was the best I've tasted in years. Chicken cooked to perfection, and served with a small pique salad..delightful! Highly recommend this one.. I had the Asian salad, see the pictures!! Grilled chicken sits on top of seaweed salad, mixed greens, fresh orange segments, sunflower seeds, only a few ingredients,, it's enough to eat for lunch and take home for dinner.. my friend from Jakarta, born and raised ordered something that was a culinary delight, shredded meat, chicken, a special rice and duck egg on top!! If you find yourself in Miami, and dream of quintessential food indigenous of Indonesia, go there! I am giving this an over the top rating. You know I'm picky"The Chef"

A diferent take on Asian food

By DelBueno |

Bali cafe serves Indonesian food which can be very interesting. I have eaten at Bali's twice and enjoyed some dishes and disliked others so I recommend a careful read of the menu before ordering. Keep in mind that this is a cash-only place so forget about plastic. The ambiance is nice. The restaurant is relatively small and the only parking available will be paid parking in one of four or five parking lots nearby or the metered parking in the streets.

Moderate to upscale, somewhat authentic but delicious, CASH ONLY? great service, parking in downtown is tricky

By ap052108 |

Stopped by this place on our way to Key West FL, was easy to find with Android google map GPS. Parking was tricky. Parked a few blocks away and walked. This was a Sunday afternoon yet parking lots were full. They close at 3:30pm on Sundays and we arrived at 3:00 pm and they still served us well. Server was great. I was born in Indonesia and I'm familiar with the food. It's somewhat authentic. Not all 100%. Soto Betawi was delicious. Gado-gado was an interesting combo of spices, not authentic but still good. Nasi Goreng Spesial was great with rendang on the side and krupuk, ayam semur kare, etc. It has a salad that has broccoli in it :). Hah! FYI Broccoli doesn't grow in the tropic or in Indonesia. It's a westernized dish fosho :). Place was very cramped but I guess in downtown area, rent or lease of any business place cost quite expensive. It was cash only, so it was a bit of a surprise. Satay ayam was okay. Price was definitely up there. But then again, it is downtown area. Batavia restaurant in Atlanta Georgia is our favorite authentic Indonesian food in southern USA. Hard to beat their selections, deliciousness, and prices. Everytime we drive down south, had to stop by their place. Would still highly recommend this place. They have tremendous collection of Indonesian souvenirs and antiques scattered along the wall. They also offer sushi, which is Japanese, not Indonesian. Great selection of deserts/treats as well.

Outstanding service

By Tuan S |

The service was outstanding. They kept open the restaurant for us after their closing time. The food was yummy and reasonably priced. The best thing was their service.

Great food

By M3kerry |

Really good cash only. Large meals. I’d order one and share. Small hole in the wall with great food. Had to look for a second to find it.

Authentic, affordable, delicious!

By Cassandra C |

Delighted with the latest discovery in my Miami food quest- an adorable little Indonesian spot. Between the ambiance, music, and unbelievably flavorful authenticity of the food, I honestly felt like we were back in Indonesia. We tried nearly one of everything- four apps and five sampler entrees and dessert- and loved every bite of it. Absolutely worth it to get the $17.95 sampler- tons of food and everything is simply incredible. Great service too. Will be back!!!

Teatime treat

By Bonnie H |

We decided to go out for a nice family Asian meal, and this place didn’t let us down. Food was delicious, service was friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Wasn’t any alcoholic drinks on the menu, but that was fine

great food but ...

By AidanZO305 |

It was my first time at the restaurant, heard much about it and the food said to be great and delicious it was, now comes the ‘but’ part, first off .. it was bit hard to find the restaurant as the signage sits at the bottom of the front window when usually people look up to find establishments. The shrub in front of the restaurant did’nt help either. My buddy said they used to have a Balinese umbrella outside .. that would have been a clear indication of restaurant location. The space was cosy and clean, service was quick, food was great but service was POOR. I left with a sour impression of the restaurant even tho the food was good. The server, clearly an Indonesian gentlemen was rude, unpleasant, condescending, complaining and never crack a smile, a hello ... nothing! Just ‘ready to order’ and ‘tip is not included’. I was not expecting to be waited hand and foot but the banter between the server and my friend was ‘uncomfortable’. We did ask for few things at different times, it happens when a group of friends get together and chat, had the waiter asked anyone need anything else, we would all have asked at the same time but he did’nt. As I mentioned before he was not a happy camper nor pleasant, at times kinda felt like I was there begging for food! The waiter complained that we asked too many things, it was bothersome! and sarcastically said ‘yea customer is always right’ .. I was agasped, being in hospitality industry myself for almost thirty years, I have never come across anyone as unaccomodating as this gentlemen, it was just bad. Suffice to say, I tip well but will not return.

Nice lunch stop

By Shane Z |

We stopped in for late lunch and we’re pleasantly welcomed with our luggage from the airport. The ambience is intimate and authentic Indonesian feeling. The food tasted fresh and was presented well.

Wonderful Indonesian Food at Reasonable Prices!

By kfitzeats |

So glad i listened to my sister when she recommended this place as an amazing authentic thai place. Were both half thai and after eating there today i understand why she was so insistent! Went with two others to this whole in the wall in which parking is a little tricky but ended up in the lot out back. We ordered the grilled prawn papaya salad, the ground pork salad, the chili grilled squid, and the pork belly pad thai. Everything was exceptional but id like to highlight the ground pork salad that immediately brought me back to bangkok and the pad thai that was finally prepared correctly with the right noodles! I noticed others disliked the price in accordanceto size of plate and didnt find that accurate at all. Also another review complained that they dont have some menu items but that's because they order ingredients fresh and literally run out during the day! If youre up for real thai food do yourself the favor and go here; cant wait to explore more on the menu!!!!

Best cooked fish I've ever tasted

By David E |

First time trying indonesian food and fell in love with its traditional fish preparation, the salad was also lovely, you can have your desired level of spice in the food. Loved the traditional indonesian iconography, located in the cool and urban zone of downtown Miami

Very Good and Authentic Indonesia Cuisine

By Darnel-HDI |

We searhed Indonesian food ar the internet and we decided to come to this cafe. We took Nasi Goreng Seafood and Ketoprak for our lunch. It was very delicious. The service and the value was also fine.

Prepare to overeat

By carpe_itineris |

We found this place on Yelp. the outside is very unassuming, and the inside is slightly crammed. You basically sit adjoining the kitchen, which makes for some of the atmosphere. The service is very friendly and the food is fantastic. As we could not decide on what to order, we chose the sampler for two. The amounts served in the sampler could easily feed a family of four! Everything in the three course meal was delicious. this little restaurant is a true local find!

Introducing the Indonesian kitchen to my friend

By Linda PP |

This is really a hidden gem in Miami! The taste of the food is soooo authentic (and I know because my roots are in Indonesia), the total atmosphere breaths "Indonesia", the service is good, the menu is varied, the people helpfull and I loved the fact that I could spreek Behasa Indonesia with the people there. I never knew that there was a Indonesian community in Miami but now I do. My friend just loved the taste of the food and had a real good impression of the country my roots are in (while being born and raised in Holland) and my background! We'll be back for sure!

A Wonderful Cultural Experience

By Kayakman2008 |

We found this restaurant as we do many places by searching with our smart phones, looking to see what's nearby when we become hungry as we walk various cities. We had no idea of the great cultural experience. From the moment the front of the restaurant comes into view and we saw the Polynesian umbrella we new we were going to have a unique experience. Throughout the interior virtually every piece of wall was covered in original Indonesian art. All very interesting and in various mediums. The food was just as interesting and satisfying!

Feel like home

By susi23 |

I always come to Miami with my family every year. And since last year I found this restaurant. I feel like at my home town. The food was so great and they served the customers with highest hospitality. They were so friendly and nice. I love the food that they serve as well as the price. Its affordable. I wish to carry home a lot of the foods. And I'll definitely be back next year.

Best meal I've had in Miami hands down

By Jon1796 |

A small but comfortable setting nearby the bayside area full of SE Asian immigrants, colorfully decorated with the appropriate tokens of wood carvings and paintings of hanuman, the Ramayana, and other indonesian gems. The food is delicious. Authentic, flavorful, this is exactly the type of hidden gem you savor. Hands down the best meal I've ever had in Miami, surpassing the Mondrian, Delano, and other high end south beach sites that cost 5x more.

Amazing find!

By ukinmiami |

We have been meaning to order from this Indonesian restaurant for the past 6 months. Thankfully it took our anniversary in which to do so. We had the Nasi Goreng special and the Bakmi Ayam Jakarta. Presentation was excellent. You could tell that the chef cares about his food. The flavors are out of this world. I have travelled throughout Asia and Miami is very difficult place to get quality Asian food. Especially Indonesian. This is as good as anything you will find anywhere. Incrediable generous portions, quality ingredients and a taste that will have you coming back for more. If you are contemplating ordering from here. Just do it! You won’t be sorry!

Worth the walk!

By ColoradoCoach |

When your in downtown Miami this small restaurant is well worth the trouble to find it. Try the asian salads, they were fresh and delicious, citrus sesame dressing. Order the large and you have lunch. $13 buys the house specialities and they are well worth it, authentic tastes that are better than Asia and we were there just last month. The coconut curry flavors make any of the beef or chicken dishes mouthwatering. Bring cash, they don't accept credit cards.

Awesome Indonesian Food. A Downtown Miami must!

By VigorousVoyager |

I was skeptic of this place at first since I had never eaten Indonesian. This is a whole in the wall, Indonesian designed restaurant. It's cash only, but really reasonably priced with huge servings. Some dishes come with a soup or salad (which was incredible). I had a pasta dish with tofu while my friends had eel and fish dishes, both incredible. The sauces and overall dishes taste really different, but delicious. We all split an avocado ice cream just to try it. Miami doesn't really do authentic asian foods very well, but I this this little place was amazing. Note: It gets packed during lunch.

EXCELLENT FOOD as ALWAYS!!

By l0v32trav3l |

Went there for lunch today and it was scrumptious. We had the nasi goreng special (small rijsttafel) and the udang bumbu kecap. Service was great.

Great food...Cash Only

By rcalabre |

Although Bali does not look that good the food and service is excellent. One thing to remember is they only take cash.

Great Indonesian food in Miami

Excellent

By Doessound |

Well this place doesn't look like much but you walk in and realize it's a restaurant. Service was great the guy made such a great suggestion for food. It arrived quickly and looked amazing it was so fresh and was a taste sensation. I eat everything.

Unique flavors

By SweettroitSteve |

Six stars...really solid food with delicious flavors. It's hard finding Indonesian cuisine in general, so I was pretty excited to try out BC. The Laksa was really superb - the flavor is different from a Thai curry, maybe a bit creamier? Try it out! Also ordered chicken satays, the presentation was good and the peanut sauce was very flavorful. Nasi goring is a meal in itself, more than just fried rice, had a lot of flavors going on. Last item was the Gado Gado salad, generous portion, also a great flavor. They also offer sushi, we tried a vegetable roll & it hit the spot. Service was good. We got their right at opening, but once the kitchen started rolling dishes came out in good time. It did get busy toward noon.

5 star Food & Service

By DanAdrian |

Delicious authentic Indonesian food. I had the Nasi Goreng Special & the Soda Gembira (lovely sweet fizzy drink). Not a spacious cafe, but has a great Indonesia ambiance and fixtures. Truly a 'mum & pops' local cafe. P/S: I do not think they serve dinner as the opening hours is until 4pm only. Will definitely revisit when I am in Miami.

Muy Bueno

By Shragaus |

Very good, excellent Indonesian food, we enjoyed it very much Very small place, but it is worth every inch It's a Must in Miami

coming from an Indonesian it's not very authentic

By SillygirlP |

I came here with my family and had the nasi goreng (fried rice). It came in a bento box with kare ayam, beef rendang, fried egg topped with red unfamiliar sauce, krupuk (chips). The fried rice itself was tasteless, good thing it came with all those other sides. Fried rice normally comes with fried egg and meat in the rice all fried together. This was unusual. The sambal on the table though was very good and spicy. This restaurant also sell Sushi. The Indonesian food they offer isn't much. The average things cost $14.00 The place was cramped, there's a table right in front of the door. The server was very nice and sweet. Gratuity is automatically added, I think it's the Miami thing.

Fantastic food ! Worst waiter attitude ever

By James M |

This place is always full , no wonder: the food is wonderful , fresh , delicious and reasonably honest prices ! The only thing is that: if you’re going for lunch , you’ll be served by this guy ( he’s the only waiter at daytime ) he’s rude, dry , tend to even stop taking your order to give attention to others that he already know . Than after a wile I understood how it goes : depends of how much you tip him . Honestly I even thought in the beginning that he belonged to the owners family or something, but No , he’s just arrogant, rude and should NEVER be dealing with people. But don’t let it stops you from trying the food , that’s addicting!

The place is small but the food is delicious

By travelalways83 |

I absolutely love this place. First thing you need to know is take cash as they don't accept credit cards. The food is amazing great flavors, so many plates to try, have been here about 6 times so far and I have always had a wonderful experience.

Well Recommended

By gesmpatt |

I’m Indonesian living in Caribbean and visiting Miami for couple of days, I googled if there is Indonesian restaurant and found this, it wasn’t disappointed at all. I love how ‘gurih’ the Tahu Goreng was. And Bakso was so yummy and perfect with Teh Kotak. Nasi Rames also good! On top of that, I love the vibe. It made me missing home so bad.

Authentic!

By Gara G |

This place is a little off the beaten path but well worth it. The walls are lined with authentic artifacts. The sunken tables are a lovely touch. The food was fresh, authentic, and tasty. Our server was very proud of her country, Indonesia, and was very willing to share her culture with us. It was a wonderful experience.

Authentic Indonesian Cuisine and really delicious

By manhattanmom |

We went to the Bali Cafe with an Indonesian friend who swears by this restaurant insofar as being truly authentic Indonesian Cuisine. The place is small and only has ten tables and the decor is pretty basic with traditional pictures lining the walls. But, you go here for the food and not the ambience. We started off our meal with the Asian salad that had lightly cooked tuna in a delicate homemade orange sesame dressing. Our friend also ordered the Lumpia which are basically spring rolls with chicken and cabbage topped with a delicious sauce. For our main course, we had Lontong Cap Go Meh, a combination of shredded beef on one side of the platter with chicken on the other served in a delicate coconut sauce with rice balls and crunchy rice crackers. We cut up the rice balls and soaked them in the sauce. Really good! We ordered two side dishes - Sambal Goreng Teri Kacang which consisted of peanuts with crunchy fish. The quail eggs were not on the menu but they were very small (size wise like oversized jelly beans) served in a red chili sauce. Dessert was perhaps the most unusual dish. Es Campur is essentially a compote of tropical fruits mixed with coconut milk and crushed ice. It also included red beans which are naturally sweet. One of the more unusual fruits in this mixture were the palm seeds which I particularly liked. Very refreshing! Of course, we washed down our meal with hot green tea.

Good food, nice atmosphere!

By ycodina |

If you happen to be in downtown Miami, you might want to stop for lunch at Bali's Café. They have one of the best salad's I have ever had. My favorite dish is the Pesmol fish in coconut sauce. It is delish.... A word of advice, make sure you take cash with you because they DO NOT take credit cards, only CASH...

Nice & cute!

By CoL861 |

I visited this place with my sis and cousin. The waiter was warm and pleasant. The food was delicious. I enjoyed very much the Indonesian dishes. They give plenty of food for the price. The decor is gorgeous with cultural wall artwork and statues. It's a small restaurant downtown Miami. Hence, busy street with no parking. However, cozy environment. Also, their choices of payment form is limited. Cash only.

Best Christmas Party Ever!!

The food was really good (the sushi, truffle mac & cheese, best guacamole ever!). The garden room for our party was the perfect venue and the servers kept my drinks full.

Fantastic symphony of flavours!

By Phledd |

I traveled all the way from FtLauderdale for this restaurant, and it didn’t disappoint. I had the Nasi Rames, It was very good! It wasn’t quite a rijstafel (Indonesian feast of 20 or more little dishes) but it had...a shredded beef dish, a curried chicken, 1/2 a salted duck egg, cucumber salad, hot and spicy coconut pan-toasted peanuts, coconut milk and lemongrass rice timbale, an Indonesian fried egg and several kinds of shrimp crackers!

Its worted food

By Yoyo W |

Enjoyable rijstafel experience

By BettendorfTraveler |

This little cafe is home to the only Indonesian eatery in Miami. Decor is not elegant, but the service is warm, friendly, and efficient. No fountain soft drinks, just cans. We noticed beer bottles on a number of tables as we left. Wish it had been on the menu, as beer is the ideal beverage for this cuisine. We ordered the rijstafel, which had relatively few dishes compared to the 15 or 20 dish meals common in Amsterdam. Everything was good, however. The cooking is toned down for American tastes - the beef dish was the only one with more than a hint of heat, and it was mild. These dishes usually have bite-sized chunks of meat - we found the whole chicken thighs a little strange. The $25 per person charge for rijstafel was reasonable for the quantity and quality of food. We wished there had been smaller sized dishes but more of them, as in Amsterdam. It may be asking a lot of a small operation, I realize. Worthy of a visit. If you’re familiar with Indonesian cooking, you may be slightly disappointed in the moderation of heat in these dishes.

What a great little neighborhood restaurant!

By David D |

I've visited Bali Cafe a few times in the past but had not been to the restaurant in a while. I stopped by for dinner last night with some friends and loved it. It's so good! The traditional Indonesian dishes are wonderful and the sushi is great. The restaurant is very small and the staff is warm and friendly. It is usually quite slow in the evenings but I've heard they are very busy for lunch. It is a very cute, unpretentious place where you feel very comfortable when you're not planning a big night on the town. I'm so glad we thought of it again, not only is the food delightful, you are always amazed how reasonable it is.

Hole-in-the-Wall Gem You Dream Of!

By whadam00 |

At the beginning of our two-day stop-over in Miami, we wanted to find somewhere cheap within walking distance of our bayside hotel. This place did not show up in my TripAdvisor filtering due to a lack of price category, but luckily we found it on another review site and decided to try it. Now I'm no connoisseur of Bali/Indonesian food, but I can tell you that this was ranks among the best quality, best prepared meals I have had and at a price that couldn't be beat anywhere - especially not in overpriced Miami! We decided to go with the rijsttafel feast as the extensive menu made it difficult to decide (plus it's only $18 per person). I was expecting a tasting menu, but got enough food to feed four! It started with a large salad of greens, seaweed, carrots, oranges, cucumber, tofu, and more, delicious lumpia (chicken, cabbage, and carrot egg rolls with peanut sauce), and dumplings. Then came the main course: a reasonable portion of steamed rice accompanied by many dishes of coriander-slow-roasted beef, coconut milk curry chicken, curry fish, vegetables, rice crackers, and a phenomenal peanut-anchovy-chili sambal goring teri kacang. Just when I couldn't do any more, a dessert of gelatin and rambutan came out. With a beer, the total for two came out around $40. Cash only, though ... Get over yourself, Go to the ATM, you'll thank me later. Seriously considering canceling reservations at a pricier joint to explore what else this tiny marvel's huge menu has to offer!

Super tasty and authentic Indonesian food!

By Krivokrasov |

Having spent a fair amount of time in Holland, I learned about the wonders of Indonesian cuisine. We found this spot in Miami, and it did not disappoint. The best option is the Rijstaffel, which offers an array of tasty options to sample. The quality was excellent and the price was reasonable for the amount of food you get (cash only).

Hole in the Wall Neighborhood Deliciousness

By crasianpandasian |

This place is tiny, cash-only, but packs a phenomenal lunch-punch! They have a salad that I cannot stop drooling over--combination of sweetness with fresh crispness--and their fish!!!! #Heavenly

Very good

By Amy T |

This is a tiny and cash only business with an interesting blend of sushi and traditional Indonesian food. I tried the steamed chicken dumplings with peanut sauce (excellent and filling) only $5.95. I also trie the Longtong Cap Go Mah which was curried need and chicken with so u recognizable veggies. For $12.95, I could not finish it but it was yummy. Packed for lunch. It was clear that this is a popR place. Give it a try!

The best meal I had in Miami

By mellykins153 |

This place is amazing. You don't go here for the ambiance, you go for the food. The restaurant is small storefront in downtown Miami, but it served the best meal I had while visiting Miami. Great lunch destination.

Surprising find!

By Meander With Mer |

Wandered in with some friends around the holidays. The place does not look like much from the outside, but we were pleasantly surprised once seated. Service was good, helped us pick items from the menu. Food was great. The other diners were also enjoying themselves. Cash only, which is good to know before you sit down, my friends and I had just enough to cover meal and tip.

Casual lunch

By Susann C |

I absolutely love this neighborhood gem. The simple salad is fantastic! Bright and fresh always a showstopper! Try the soto betawi, it's delicious! Can get crowded at lunch but the restaurant handles he volume well. Warning, it's cash only.

Easy to walk by, but worth finding it!

By Annette F |

I have not been here for a while and took out of town friends. It's a tiny hole in the wall downtown restaurant, easy to miss, but it's there! The menu is quite extensive with both Indonesian food and sushi. We chose Indonesian and it was really good. I had a rice noodle dish, another had the grilled chicken. All dishes were beautifully presented and tasted good. A good value, too.

Amazing combos

By reklamemannen |

This is the only place we returned to several times. The combos are amazing. Sushi/rolls are fresh and taste simply fantastic and the side salad is to die for. Combined with great service and very fair pricing - this is a clear 5/5. Will come back here every time I’m in Miami.

Great flavors, great service, low prices

Outstanding flavors, attentive service, large portions, this place has it all! The Nasi Goreng Special (which appears to always be on the menu) had so many different flavors going on, it was amazing. The beef tasted SO good, the chicken in a coconut milk sauce was very different than the beef and was just as good. The vegetables were perfectly done and flavorful. We’re so happy that we happened upon this place!

Excellent and kid-friendly too

Kids liked the noodle dishes and chips with peanut sauce dip. Shrimp dumpling appetizer made a perfect light lunch for me. Hot sauce comes on the side, which is fortunate since it's really really hot!

Indonesian lunch was wonderful in this delightful little place.

We were delighted with this little place. Had a wonderful Nasi Goreng special, which tasted just like the ones I have had in Indonesia. Extremely efficient staff who were friendly and polite. The waiter was lovely . The place was almost full when we went with what looked like locals of Miami.

Yummy casual restaurant downtown

I enjoyed a fresh salad and the fish of the day. The fish was grouper in a tasty yellow sauce on steamed vegetables and rice. They also serve the grouper with a red sauce on the menu. When I asked the server which way to order the grouper, he suggested that the chef could make it part yellow and part red sauce. Super wonderful service at this restaurant. I preferred the yellow sauce, but both were very tasty. I will definitely return to this great find of a restaurant. It is within walking distance to Bayfront Park and the Port. Check it out!

Best Indonesian Restaurant in South Florida!

I cannot tell you how many times I have dined at Bali Cafe. They have become like family. The decor is amazing; you are instantly transported to Indonesia. They have beautiful statues, paintings and artifacts that are both beautiful and spiritual. And then there's the cuisine. There are such a delicious array of dishes, including sushi, fish dishes, beef and for those vegans and vegetarians, you will not be disappointed as they are happy to accommodate. Their salads are amazing and I especially love the seaweed salad. Finally, there are other culinary accents such as durian, Indonesian ice creams, coconut water and more. I love this establishment and continue to tall all my friends and in-town guests.

Real Indonesian food in downtown Miami

This small Indonesian restaurant offers real Indonesian food with authentic taste. We ordered a nasi goreng spesial , a lontong chap gomeh and a soto Betawi. All plates were very tasteful and we were really surprised that we thought we were in Indonesia!!!

Good Indonesian food served by good people

We would drive down all the way from Boynton Beach(an hour away) to this place to fill our craving for Indonesian food. And this place never disappoint. Located in a small restaurant in downtown Miami, I would suggest call ahead to see if they have any tables available. Otherwise, be prepared to wait. And another important thing, cash only! Get cash before you come here. There's Wells Fargo and Bank of America ATM's about 7 minutes walk south from this place. If you come here on a Sunday and have a car, you can park for free at the open public parking lot on NE 2nd St, between NE 1st Ave and NE 2nd Ave, around the corner from this place. Beside having really good Indonesian food, these are some of the nicest people you'll meet in your life. Be sure to say hi to the owner Niko and Sita and tell them I sent you lol jk.

Great food and service!

I love this place! I haven't had authentic Indonesian food before, so I don’t know if it’s the ‘real thing’, but all I can say is that the food is delicious. The market fish and egg noodles are yum! The service is excellent, the quantities for some of the dishes are generous (definitely sharing portions) and the prices are very reasonable. They only accept cash by the way! They have one table for outside seating.

Must try!

I have had Indonesian food many times during my childhood. Its has been atleast a decade since I last had this type of cuisine. The location is not that convenient. So parking must be done on US 1 and walk towards 2nd ave. So if it was raining or if there is an event closeby, that parking location might not work out well. The restaurant only takes cash. I must have missed that when i looked it up. There were atms in the area, so I was able to get cash. The food was fantastic. Not the same as what I have had, but flavors that I am used to were there. We had the Nasi Goreng Special wich I recommend if you and your guest dont want to do the Rijstafel. I wasnt pleased that I could not get the rijstafel for one person. The minimun was two. But the Nasi Goreng and Nasi Rames were both great choices. We also had teh lumpias (eggrolls) with that yummy peanut sauce. In addition I had to try their satay...and I wasnt disappointed.

Good for a reasonable Price.

No complains, the food was good according to the price. I was there with my wife and daughter. She loved it; she never has Indonesian food before. In my country (where I was born) there are plenty of them. Nice people. The day we visited we were the only clients, so they all the time for us. For sure I will go back.

Great little Gem in Miami

If you look for authentic Indonesian food don't look further, that's the place to be. Great beef rendang, soft and tender, homemade sambal and they also offer a selection of sushi which I haven't tried yet. The place is small so you might have to wait and only cash accepted. There is a public car park just 2 min walk away. Highly recommended.

Good food good service

So Much Flavor

By helloimkiwi |

Well I was absolutely stunned by the deliciousness of this food. I had no clue what I was eating since it was the first time trying Indonesian cuisine, but I am a purveyor of Asian foods and love to try new spices! I asked the server to recommend a dish for me which included a variety of foods and it came out looking like the most colorful, tasty meal ever! (see pic). I particularly liked the beef item on the plate and actually ordered some to-go - it was that good! Also, take note that if you are eating at this place solo, you won't be able to get the prix fixe dining option that costs $17.95 and includes tons of stuff... Two person minimum. Will be returning here with my hubby to try it! So thankful for diversity in Miami!
