This restaurant is a local favorite

By K C |

I've eaten here twice in the last couple of months. The first visit was sit down and the second was carry out. I thought the food was delicious and the service excellent. Plus the place was FULL! That says something in this day and time that there are so many customers who are eating in.

Po-Po platter good for 2 for dinner

By Joe |

The atmosphere was typical Chinese, but the service was FAST and the food was GOOD! We chose a small meal, and it was served fast and hot. Two of each of 5 appetizers, plus a bowl of white rice, made a meal. It was a gem in the hustle of Ventura Blvd!

Thank goodness - open till 11 pm

By frequentflyerhome |

If you are in the Valley and hungry...this is a great place, especially since they are open relatively late ( 11 pm). The food is consistently good, the service fine and the hours helpful. Definitely a go-to place for "late night " ( but not too late - just util 11 pm) dining when in the area. Fine for a solo bowl of soup and appetizers, thought best with several people, as the dishes definitely encourage sharing.

Best Chinese in the Valley

By Nari L |

The food and service is excellent here! I would def be back here. It gets pretty busy for lunch on a Friday even but that just shows how good this place is. All in all, I would def be back. The prices are reasonable the they give you a lot of food!

Terrific Chinese Food

By 1momo1 |

It is always a treat dining at Bamboo. Probably the best Chinese food in the San Fernando Valley. Bring your appetite, as the food is delicious and varied (huge menu full of great dishes). However you may have to wait, as this is a very popular restaurant.

Sweet and pungent shrimp - oh ya !

By Pranav M |

One of the best places for chinese food in the valley. They have a daily lunch special which comes with salad , soup , main course with rice for under $10. I normally get the Sweet and pungent shrimp with brown rice....oh man it is so good. The staff is always friendly and not rude like most chinese restaurants. Ample free parking is available in the back so need to look for a spot on the street.

One of the Valley's best

By Jay T |

The food is wonderful. Especially the specials listed on the first page of the menu. There are a lot of large round tables for the entire family to be able to eat out together. The prices are reasonable. Arrive early as it gets very busy on the weekends for dinner.

Great Food---Horrible Service

By Rogerdob |

This place has absolutely great food...and that's probably the reason they get away with having horrible service! People come for the food, not the service. Why was it horrible...lots of waiting involved... 1. I had to flag down the waitress to order (where the heck did she go?). 2. Food took a long time to get to our table. 3. We ordered six dishes and each one came out at a different time with a considerable wait between them. 4. We were completely ignored during the meal. 5. We ran out of tea (there were six of us) and received no offers for refills. 6. After waiting a long time, I had to get up to find a waiter to get take-home boxes. 7. Again, tired of waiting, I, myself, had to seach nearby cabinets to get a bag to put the take-home boxes in. 8. AND AFTER ALL THAT BAD SERVICE, THEY ACTUALLY HAD THE GALL TO ADD A 20% TIP TO THE CHECK!!!! (I cut the tip way way down!). Finally, realize, there is no parking lot, only very limited street parking...get there early to find a space!

Great chinese

By michael p |

Many choices and all of them are good. This is an unpretentious restaurant that has a friendly feel. The menu is huge and with six of us we had a lot of different foods to try. All of them were tasty and made the taste buds hum. The price is reasonable and the service friendly. Whatever you think you want they have it and it is worth waiting for.

Good

By rockstar89 |

I really enjoyed my meal here. It was very busy but servers and managers were swarming around taking care of everyone. I got the red curry hot pot and it was delicious. Easily enough for two and at just under $20 not a bad deal. I would return again.

Huge portions

By Slinx2312 |

Was recommended this restaurant by the hotel concierge. Food was good but each dish is a huge portion. There were four of us and we each had a dish - but realistically two dishes would have sufficed. Reasonably priced and service was quickly and efficient.

Good service, hot, tasty food

By CharlaAV711 |

Quite simply bamboo is a nice environment with a polite staff that provides very good service & serves food that is hot and looks and tastes fresh and delicious! We were larger party tonight and had a preset menu, no one went home hungry. We began with wonton soup followed by large and delicious and crispy eggrolls and then a chicken dumpling served individually to each of us. That was followed by pork fried rice and combination chowmein. Both had a great variety of vegetables and meat, neither were just rice or noodles. Then came our entrées. Kung pao chicken, broccoli and beef, sweet-and-sour chicken and a shrimp dish with green beans that had halves of candied walnuts which were just amazing! As alluded to earlier all of the dishes came out hot, every dish was delicious & as was alluded to already, just as fresh and delicious as they looked. The staff quietly and continually cleared the dishes and never made us feel rushed. After the meal we were served a plenteous supply of orange slices and of course fortune cookies. Bamboo is a great location to go whether you are a party of two or a party of 40, seated in their group room.

Worth going out of your way!

By JulianSolo |

I live in Orange County, and this restaurant is about 35 miles away in the San Fernando Valley (but close to Beverly Hills/West LA). The food here is excellent, but if you like (or love) Chinese, this place also has a beautiful ambiance, sophisticated service and reasonable prices.

Yummy

By carolehoward |

Very good food, a little bit expensive but worth it. A neighborhood gem but not such good street parking, however there is valet parking. It gets very busy at night so I'd suggest reservation. Also a good place for large parties.

Much better than that big national upscale Chinese Chain

By spitfire460 |

Everything at this restaurant is really fresh and seems better prepared than upscale national chain that seems to be everywhere with its formula food. Local ownership greets you at the door. Reservations are often needed for poplar weekend dinner hours.

Great in Every Way

By Virgina C |

Wonderful, attentive service, incredibly fresh ingredients and delicious food...not to mention reasonable prices. Also, this is a fairly large restaurant, which means that you have a good chance of being seated and/or getting reservations on a Saturday night. Just be careful about parking on the side streets. They have some unusual regulations: no parking after 6pm unless you have a resident parking permit.

Avoid at all cost

By Cindy H |

I have always relied on TripAdvisor for accurate reviews, but can't imagine what has happened with this restaurant. Worst Chinese food I have EVER had the displeasure of ordering. Placed order through ChowNow. Restaurant lost order. We waited and waited, called the restaurant and said they would get it to us right away. Order was 2 hours late! Also arrived without white rice, which was seriously missed since rest of food inedible. Called restaurant to complain and all they would do is offer half "store credit." Who wants more disgusting food to throw in the trash? Manager simply told us, "too bad for you." Heed this warning and steer clear. From what I understand from other reviewers, this place may have been good long ago, but no more.

Pretty good Chinese food, maybe the best in Sherman Oaks. It'll do in a pinch.

Good food, good drinks, good for all!

We love Bamboo! Try to eat here frequently and are never disappointed. The Mai Tais are great, the mu shu wonderful, and we always try something new each time.

Always great Chinese food !

By Jeff H |

I've been eating at Bamboo for over 15 years and it's always great. All the usual fare, Three Flavor Sizzling Rice Soup, Kung Pau Chicken, lots of Beef and Fish dishes. If your in the area, they deliver. Check them out !

Delicious Dishes!

By lanuvie |

This was truly delicious Chinese food. Everything we had was great, especially the eggplant. The atmosphere was great. The service was great. Overall excellent experience.

Delicious and Continually Reliable Dinner Spot

By Alex V |

This place is great. I have been a few times and it has never dissapointed. It is a solid go to spot when looking for chinese or thai food. The Pot Stickers are a must try.

Excellent Chinese Cuisine! Highly recommended!

By Sonova_Beach |

We have been searching the Valley for a decent Chinese restaurant that has great food, modest prices, huge portions, and stays open late. This establishment, I'm very happy to say, has exceeded all of our expectations! The wait staff is superb: attentive, yet not obtrusive. Their suggestions turned an already great evening into a superb dining feast! The selections were tasty, varied, and served at the right eating temperature. We can say we've never had better Sizzling Rice Soup! [also, you just HAVE to try the Sweet and Sour Shrimps!] While we are not enamored about valet, we didn't mind paying for valet service at this establishment. We definitely will be returning!

Wonderful, fresh, high quality food in a beautiful setting.

By bstorm |

I took clients to dinner here a few nights ago and they were uneasy because (as I found out after dinner) they normally do not eat Chinese food. I usually do not eat it either because it is so often wet and salty. That said, Bamboo is an upscale Chinese restaurant with the best Chinese food we have ever had in Los Angeles. The food is beautifully presented and delicious, obviously everything is fresh and made to order. We shared a very generous amount of delicious steamed dumplings that came in a bamboo steamer basket with a sweet/savory sauce on the side. My client's raved about how good they were. We also had the Chinese chicken salad, that had red ginger piled on top with excellent dressing, the lemon chicken, very good egg rolls and amazing mu shu pork. They ordered a scallion pancake, that looked like a quesadilla, but was a bit tough to chew. We shared green tea ice cream for dessert. The restaurant has many beautiful sculptures throughout and the staff was very pleasant. My client's said they loved it, and I agree!

Busy, very good food, cooked properly!

By Britishcanadianeh |

We arrived by car ( there is scant parking on the street on the weekend) and ventured in. It was busy and not having a reservation ( recommended) we waited about 15 minutes. The table was OK, and the decor, Asian, and not overdone. We had a cold glass of water in 1 minute, and the waiter was by in < 5 minutes. We had to defer, having not decided on our choices. Put in our order and our meal was ~ 20 minutes? I had a glass of wine while waiting. Our meal arrived, one plate, then a minute later 2, and so on. It was hot and tasty. It was very palatable and the service was excellent. It was reasonably priced for the excellent food. Cheers, Britishcanadianeh

Average Chinese Cuisine

By ArmondV |

We have eaten at many Chinese restaurants and Bamboo Cuisine is just an average Chinese food restaurant at best; though, the service is reasonably good. We decided to try the food at Bamboo due to positive reviews posted on line; hot and sour soup did not really taste like a Chinese hot and sour soup, steamed rice was not prepared well, and both Beef and Scallions (Mongolian Beef) and Pan Fried Noodle were just average. This is one Chinese restaurant we are not going back to.

Great value for your buck!!

By darylmarx |

Brought my family here for dinner. Six of us shared soup, steamed wontons and two dishes. Not only was the food good, but there was left over. Try this place, you'll like it. There is valet parking for $5.00. Worth it so you don't have to look for a spot. The service was a little slower than I would have liked, but it made my teenage grandchildren talk to us!! What a bonus.

Really Great Chinese Food!

By Bill T |

Bamboo has it down pat - there food is delicious, service is good and the restaurant is always busy. Try the take out - their food travels well!

one of our fav chinese food

By SuzanS59 |

this is my family & I's favorite Chinese food. Their entire menu is so yummy. The staff all know us pretty well, so they treat us like family. They do tend to get a little crowded at peak hours, but definately worth the wait.

Amazing food and a good atmosphere

By mnmontana |

The food here is amazing, we always leave this place feeling happy and completely full. One of the best dishes that everyone should try is the Aloha Shrimp, absolutly amazing. Anytime I'm in the Los Angeles area I try to stop in here atleast once.

Yummy Chinese

By IngZel |

Delicious Chinese food reasonably priced. $60-80 for 4 excluding drinks. Great for families or large groups. Not good for a romantic date...kind of loud. As my husband would say Chinese NY style.

Good basic Chinese.

Good quality of Chinese

By Lee S |

My friend in LA made reservation of this venue for me and my BF. We all were surprised at the quality of food and atmosphere. It's filled with full of people, so reservation must be needed.

New York Chinese Style

By Michael P |

Bamboo is the oldest and best Chinese restaurant in the Valley. Family style with great fresh ingredients; so do not expect a Mr Chow of Beverly Hills. Always busy and always good. We always order roast pork slices, and their sticky buns as appetizers along with fried shrimp. The lettuce cups are perfect followed by the Moo Shu pork. Our favorite dish is the shrimp with broccoli and crisp rice in a black bean sauce. The most exciting entree is the Singapore curry noodles which goes great with anything. Take out is fast, hot and very speedy delivery so either way you cannot go wrong. Valet parking is in the back of the restaurant and makes parking easy. Bamboo is not inexpensive but the quality far exceeds anything in the valley. About $20 to $25 per person family style. Portions are generous and service is smart. The bar and drinks are actually well prepared rare for a Chinese restaurant.

The Best Chinese Food in Los Angeles

By iwilltrain |

If you are in the mood for great B-B Q ribs, great service and consistent excellent Chinese food this is the place. Great menu with lots of choices (never disappointing) great service and nice people. Try it you will love it.

Best Chinese Restaurant in LA

By bccrab |

Bamboo is a cut above your average Chinese restaurant which explains it's huge popularity. The place is always packed so reservations are a must. Not the most attractive location on Ventura Blvd. but once inside the place is very nice. Massive menu with many choices- some classic Chinese dishes and others house specials. Service is always efficient and friendly. I've never really ordered anything I didn't enjoy here. The Spare Ribs are amazing. They also make a mean Mai Tai at the bar if you're in the mood for an umbrella drink. Valet parking right in front is another plus.

Hit or miss take out

By karenq0506 |

I've ordered from this place a few times. At first it was one of my fav Chinese takeout. But last 3 times it wasn't good. The orange chicken was dried out. Maybe they giving me old food, not cool. But I'm a repeat customer, you think they'd want to keep me happy...to keep me. Don't think I'll be ordering from here for awhile.

pretty standard fare...but very good

By eyeu |

One of the better places in the area for Chinese food. Excellent duck, orange chicken, brown rice...usual fare but all done very well. Good for pickup as well as dining in. Very busy place! Had their vegetable grill that was also very good. Would recommend this for good Chinese food....

Dogs in the Restaurant prancing & chewing on dog toys

By cynsch |

Food is just okay... but after tonight with dogs in the restaurant jumping and prancing around, chewing on dog toys it was not acceptable. When asking the management, they indicated that they were friends of the owner so it was overlooked. The dog owner said they were service dogs, but said he had no papers, no tags, and no proof... gives a bad name for those of us that truly need service animals!! I will not be going back.... Where is the Health Department when you need them...

A other good night in Town

So-so for a class reunion of friends at lunch

By tapbelle |

I arrange luncheons for a group of women from my high school class. We meet a few times a year. Finding a place that will accommodate our group (7-12) and the location are key to choice. I thought I would try Bamboo Cuisine, which I hadn't been to in many years. Seven us gathered to have a relaxed meal and conversation. Several drove a l. The food was delicious although we thought we are ordering individual dishes rather than family style. The service, however, was rushed from beginning to end, which was very disruptive and unpleasant. We will not be returning for a reunion lunch.

Consistently Good

By Simon M |

My family are huge fans of Chinese food, but I am not. Bamboo actually has very tasty food and the service is usually fairly good. Their Chinese Chicken Salad is excellent! It is disappointing that white rice is no longer included with any entree.

Well-prepared and courteously served Chinese Food

By pflagdad |

Although trying to catch up to its Asian food competitors, Bamboo is first and foremost a traditional Chinese restaurant. High quality ingredients are used throughout. The "wanton" (sic) soup was somewhat bland and the dumpling crust lacking firmness with very high quality white meat chicken/shrimp incorporated. My chicken chow fun was also bland. Both benefited from adding chili paste.

Best in the Valley

By Steven A |

We have been going to Bamboo for years, and the food is always good, Try the specials, the Hot Sour Soup, and just about anything on the menu. If you have you require Gluten Free, Bring your own flour and they will make some of the dishes for you using it. Always good service, make reservations. Enjoy the food.

Terrific Valley Chinese

By David K |

We came here Christmas eve and they did a great job handling the crowds and service and food were both great. The cocktails and wine are also very reasonable. We started with the pork dumplings which were moist and not greasy. We also enjoyed the Chinese chicken salad. But the shrimp sweet and sour and the kungpao fried rice were great and our favorite was the Mongolian beef. We will be back on a regular night soon!

Happy, happy stomach

By LaVerne R |

I enjoyed my first visit to this wonderful find. Location is great to where I live and work; ambiance is so nice and appealing. The owner Joseph has acquired some wonderful original sculptures and artwork from his international travels and have displayed them through out the restaurant. Wait staff was very professional, courteous and very on top of the game. The bartender Tony made wonderful Martini's. I like that it has a separate bar where you can enjoy a drink of your choice and order an appetizer if you are short on time. I definitely will return as their menu was very extensive and from the Shu Mai app that I had, I am sure the rest will be divine as well. Looking forward to the return.

Sweet & Pungent Shrimp

By mildflower |

I come here all the time with friends from work. We always order the sweet and pungent shrimp which is delicious. They do a nice moo goo gai pan, chicken and cashews and beef with broc. Service is good and even the parking attendant behind the restaurant is very nice.

Best Chinese and its in Sherman Oaks

By Jeff H |

Bamboo has been my go to place for Chinese delivery for 20 years. Fresh food, cooked perfectly. White or Brown Rice and great soups.

Delicious food but terrible parking!

By Rogerdob |

Our food was delicious...we ordered Sweet and Sour Chicken, Beef Fried Rice, and something called Singapore Vermicelli...all were excellent. It was some of the best Chinese Food I have ever had. Service was fast and the atmosphere was great by having nice decor but not being over-fancy. Each table had cloth tablecloths which added class to the place. The only problem was parking. One is almost forced to use Valet parking with a mandatory charge. Parking along the street is hard to find. And one is prohibited from parking on the side streets due to residential restrictions (one must have a certain permit to park). Since we are not a fan of Valet Parking, it took us about 10 minutes to finally find a space.

good selection, bustling

By ZurichKashew |

i had dinner with a group of local friendsduring a recent trip to LA at this SF Valley chinese restaurant. (We also dined with other friends the year before while on our annual visit to LA). The atmosphere is a cut above many Chinese restaurants, and would be soothing if the place were not so bustling. The menu selection is varied and I enjoyed almost all the dishes. Service was attentive. Not inexpensive, but not bad value for the money.

Decent take-out Chinese

By Andrew B |

We got a variety of dishes, with a couple that were very good, and a couple that were overcooked, or at least too mushy. I liked the meal, but wasn't overwhelmed with it.

Chinese at it's best !! D

By Jeff H |

Candidly, I always order Bamboo delivery to my home. But have been ordering since I discovered Bamboo about 20 years ago. It's Chinese food at it's best. Fresh, no MSG, brown or white rice cooked perfectly and pretty much anything Chinese you would want. Highly recommend !

Convenient Sherman Oaks Location.

By Nancy D |

It took 20+ minutes to be seated...even though we had a reservation. Staff was friendly. Our dishes came out at different times. We had to ask after our final dish and it arrived after we were finished with everything else ordered. Food is good, not great. They do NOT use MSG at this restaurant which is a plus. All of our dishes used plenty of oil. The Hot &Spicy eggplant was probably the best of our selections. The eatery is conveniently located on Ventura Blvd in Sherman Oaks. Parking meters in the area operate until 8pm except for Sunday, free parking day.

Very good service and very flexible with their menu. Great place for Vegetarians as well.

Best Chinese in the Valley

By Tb H |

This is a five star Chinese restaurant. It has a great atmosphere. The service is friendly and fast and the food...? Generally excellent. Definitely a step above most any other Chinese restaurant in the area. The menu is quite extensive, and you can specify any particular changes to a dish to suit your needs. The booths are close together, but if you prefer privacy, you can always get a table off to the side or in a corner. They accept large parties and even have a private room for special occasions. All in all, the best in the area.

Best Chinese restaurant in the Valley

By CostaRicaFan_10 |

I have been going to and ordering from Bamboo for many years, and have never had a bad meal or even a bad dish there. I can recommend the Sweet and Pungent Shrimp, in particular

Great Chinese

By Jeff H |

If you are in the mood for Chinese, Bamboo is the place to go or if you live locally, they have delivery. The Moo Shu, Kung Pao, soups and noodle dishes are fantastic. Highly recommend.

Poorly run

By Keith V |

I ordered food to go. I was told it would be ready in 15 minutes. I arrived to pick up the food and waited for over 40 minutes after it was promised. The staff was rude and unhelpful. The food was good, but the quality of the staff will not overcome my never returning.

A rare treat

By LordSakana |

Clean and pleasant environment, soothing decor, not loud. Diverse menu with delicious selections, kind staff. A rare treat around Los Angeles.
