Hawaiian food delight

By Steven L |

My girlfriend, daughter and I were visiting Portland from Hawaii before taking my daughter to Salem for college. After spending some time shopping and sightseeing with my sister who was visiting from Seattle, we were in need of some Hawaiian food. My brother recommended Bamboo Grove Hawaiian Grille and we were glad he did. We were treated like long lost friends and had the best "local-style" hawaiian food we've ever experienced on the mainland. The food and service was great and we recommend this to anyone who has either been to Hawaii or wants to experience the food of Hawaii without having to travel there. The place is a little hard to find, but worth the effort.

Great place, outstanding staff with good food

By Doug H |

We had a great time, with a large party. The food was outstanding, staff was the best. The pulled pork, mac salad, chicken all were great Highly recommended!!!

Medium

By 441victor |

I'm not going to trash the Bamboo. These are tough times and it was just dinner. I had the chicken with macaroni salad and rice. They served at least 1.5 pounds of chicken, but sadly I did not like any of it. I'm not a chef. I just felt it was cooked into oblivion. Old and gamey. I'm sure my meal mine was an aberration. But, I'll never find out

Always good

It has been awhile since going now that we live in Texas but the food taste the same as it did several years ago. Food it always great here and staff is very nice.

I crave the pork!

By solotraveler721 |

They serve Kalua Pork on the weekends and it is to die for. Huge portions and we always have left overs. My suggestion would be to get an appetizer and a medium plate. If you want dinner the next night at home... get the large but make sure to order extra mac. They have great spam musabi too!

Delish BBQ chicken

By Brittany_11_10 |

Delicious BBQ chicken sandwich. The shoyu chicken was also tasty. Filling portions, especially with the sides (salad with sandwich, rice and macaroni salad with shoyu chicken), and fair prices for the quality and quantity of food. Fun, funky interior decor, and plenty of seating inside (and a little outside). Good service. Casual. Would recommend and would eat there again.

Ono Hawaiian food and entertainment

By Don L |

Friday evening in the Tiki Room.....dinner and live musical entertainment and dancing. The food was very authentic Hawaiian and ono (good).

"Ono" (good) Grinds

By Mark P |

As usual, this place did not disappoint. Generous portions with good service on the patio. My only complaint? Passion Fruit (Lilikoi) flavored Iced Tea was plain Iced Tea with hardly any flavoring. Had my 60th Birthday Lu'au here a couple of years ago. I shall never forget it!

Bring home some of the Teriyake Sauce!

By akpeters |

This is the second time we have eaten here when we have been in Portland. We purposely sought it out again. The pulled pork (and most pork and chicken dishes) are delicious. I found the beef ribs very tough, so you may want to avoid those. We didn't try the fish, but it sure smelled good! They make the very best Teriyake Sauce I have ever had. They have takeout service, so if you ask the waitress she will do up a takeout container of the sauce for a moderate price. They have many authentic Hawaiian dishes, and also have some great micro-brews that my spouse enjoys. They also have some Filipino, Japanese and Chinese dishes. It's a little tricky to find, so use your gps.

Authentic Hawaiian in Portland OR !

By Missouri-Morelian |

Wow! This is crazy good hawaiian food. Born and raised a Makaha boy on the south shore of Oahu, I can tell you, this place is legit! If you've ever enjoyed a local mixed plate lunch in hawaii, this is your spot! I live in St. Louis MO now, but have brothers in Portland. Every time I visit, we eat here. As they say in the islands, "Broke da Mout!" "Ono-ono!"

Da Best!

By C B |

For anyone who has lived in Hawaii, I am sure they would recommend this restaurant is being truly local Hawaiian. We have tried several entrées: Kahlua pork, Spareribs, fried rice, teriyaki chicken, and all are delicious. Very ample servings are included along with two scoops of rice and one scoop of macaroni salad. They have a decent wine selection as well as a full bar. There is easy on-street parking. When the weather is nice, there is outdoor seating.

Great Kahlua Pork

By PCM |

I stumbled upon Bamboo Grove Hawaiian Grille while looking for another place in the same strip mall, but once I saw it my plans changed; and I was later glad they did. The waitress seated me quickly and was very attentive and friendly; she pointed out how they have "generous portions" when I was looking what to get, and thanks to that I got the "small" plate of Kahlua Pork. There was nothing small about my plate, there was plenty of delicious food to satisfy my hunger. I'll try to stop by here when I visit Portland the next time.

Big Big Big Portions of Hawaiian Favorites

By MYSPIKE |

Love this place for authentic tasting hawaiian plate food - from the setting to the piped in music to the food - macaroni salad, real rice (sticky calrose) and the marinaded BBQ meats - its all good! Even the so called portuguese sausage "appetizer" is such a large portion you can make a meal of it. Word of advise - if you are a first timer to this restaurant an don't eat big portions on a regular basis order a "small' plate so you don't waste food and money.

Tasty local food from Hawaii

By Maria M |

We have been there a few times - not a fast place for service but once the food arrives it seems worth the wait

Predictably ono!

By Lora H |

We love this place. Having lived in Hawaii on Oahu for 13+ years this is by far the most authentic Hawaiian food we've found in Portland. Lilikoi iced tea, manapua from Oahu's Liliha Bakery and fresh delicious menu items are among the reasons why. It's onolicious!!!

By Debbie T |

Great "Hawaii Island" food. Live island music on Friday nights by Francis Doo and hula dancing when available by his "Hawaiian Charm Dancers" in the Tiki Room. Kalua pork special every friday night. Also available all week poke, kalbi, shoyu chicken, loco moco and spam musubi, too.

Authentic Hawaiian fare

By Isabel G |

I was pleasantly surprised to find this little gem tucked down a side street near my hotel while visiting Portland. The owners are from Hawaii, so the food is ono and the menu is the real deal: shoyu poke, linguica, and of course kalua pig -- everything you'd expect to find in the islands in a cozy Hawaiian atmosphere. Their mai tais rock! The staff was friendly. The only reason I didn't give it the fifth star was that the service was really slow, but then again that's authentic island-style as well! I'll definitely be back when I return to Portland. Would love to come by when they are having live music.

Sunshine and sand on a rainy night

By margaretcov |

What an enjoyable place and good food too. We had our grandchildren with us (6 and 8) and the waiter was just wonderful with them. They were even invited to feed the fish after dinner. The decor is pure Island. The menu was a bit daunting since I did not recognize many of the offerings. The waiter was again a big help. Every one enjoyed their selections and the children's menu was excellent. They have a patio in the back. We will be back to try out that space when the weather is better.

We finally found authentic Hawaiian food!

By Lora H |

....and have been back several times. The lilikoi iced tea, the manapua from -get this- Liliha Bakery on Oahu, the ono grinds (my favorite is the ahi stir fry)...we could go on and on. It's fun driving my 10 year old Toyota from Servco Pacific there :-)

Left $9.50 tip, was charged $95. Still haven’t gotten it back. Food is extremely mid.

By Mira M |

Worst experience ever. I paid for a $44 meal with a $9.50 tip and was charged a $95 tip. I was told that I was refunded the whole transaction and was sent a picture of a voided receipt, but the receipt only listed the $44 meal. Susan made me re-pay for the $44 meal, and had the audacity to ask if I wanted to leave another tip. When it processed, I was only refunded for the meal, not the $95 tip. Susan told me it wasn’t their problem and that I would need to contact the bank for the rest of the refund. I had to file a dispute that is still processing, it has been weeks now and I’m still out $95. I also got the rib sampler and it wasn’t very good.

The yummiest

The kalua pig is just the best to die for but you really can't go wrong with anything on the menu !!! And I have been to the islands..

Fantastic

By C B |

If you want a taste of real, local Hawaiian food, stop by here. We lived on Oahu for several years and this is the best Hawaiian restaurant we have found on the mainland. Nearly every dish comes with rice and macaroni salad. Hello, this is the plate lunch in Hawaii. Also, the portions are huge. Again, like one would get in Hawaii. They also have a full bar, a nice surprise. I asked what the Hawaii connection was since the food tasted so authentic. It turned out the person I asked what is the owner. He said he was one half Hawaiian and grew up on Maui. He definitely has transferred Hawaii to Portland. He mentioned they have Hawaiian bands on Friday and Saturday evening; we definitely will be going back.

Top notch Hawaiian Food in Portland

By Frank C |

Bamboo Grove is one of a healthy number of Hawaiian themed restaurants in Portland and the Willamette Valley. I and my family have eaten in a bunch of them. In fact, the best mixed plate meal I have ever had was at Bamboo Grove, not in the 25 or so lunches I have had in the islands. The restaurant is not elegant, but provides comfortable seating for 50 or 60 guests in both indoor or outdoor venues. Hawaiian Beers are on draft and mixed drinks are also available. On the menu there is a wide assortment of Hawaiian food items. I recommend the Kihei rib plate, but the Korean ribs are also great. Chicken specialties are also good. The Mac salad is great. Service is good.

mid afternoons are a great time

By Milespert |

no people and the food is exceptional I had the sweet and sour stir fry with chicken small size which was outstanding. Parking is an issue sometimes but mid afternoons makes it a great time to visit and park

Mixed plate-mixed review!

By 22savytraveler |

Meat here is really good, love the ono chicken and the rib eye. Mac salad a Hawaiian stable was next to awful, it was like they spilled the vinegar in it. The poke as really subpar. Basically you are getting a plate of white raw onions and some previously frozen chunks of tuna, no real flavor but owweee its expensive!!

Off the beaten path but worth the search...

By Patpett |

Had lunch with friends who had been before. Waiter was so friendly and helpful. Ordered Mai tais enjoyed ..even tho not served in a fancy glass. Pork Kailua plate ..yummy good and small portion was huge! Loco moco was very good as well. Best part was talking story with our waiter...learned about poke and hawaiian drinks and more... Menu is Prue Hawaiian plate lunches that the locals love and I do too!

By KymL428 |

My family loves this local favorite! It is hands-down my 7 year old's favorite place to go. Can't go wrong with the giant portions, tender meats, and out of this world mac salad! Friendly and consistent service also keeps us coming back for more.

Lots of really great food.

By tougo |

We came here last night because the weather felt tropical and we wanted food along those lines. We were not disappointed. The food was great and the service was too. It's a fun place to relax and look around at all of the Hawaiian décor. Drinks were yummy too! A small is plenty unless you want leftovers.

great food, bad servers

By Jtravelerss |

The food was so great. Went with a large party, so we had the auto grads added on. She dropped a pitcher of water off at the table and then only came back to give us our bill. We had 4 people with ice teas, that never got refills because she did not come back. But the music was great and the atmosphere was wonderful.

Not as good as on the Islands

By Snowbeardude |

We just recently got back from a trip to Hawaii and were hankering for some Hawaiian food just to relive the good memories. So we Googled "Hawaiian food" and the great wizard Google gave us this restaurant as the highest-rated in the Portland area. So we get there and the restaurant was mildly busy for lunch which is a good sign, I suppose but the strange thing was that most of the customers were adult men. No families, no kids, only a few women. That was a bit odd. We waited for a while to be seated and were seated at a booth. Then we waited a while until someone took our order. And then we waited some more. Wasn't an interminable wait, but still fairly substantial. We ordered the kalua pork plate and teriyaki chicken plate with side orders of lumpia and a couple of drinks. I was debating about getting the poke, but you know at least in Hawaii, the fish is probably fresh directly from the ocean, at least in places on the Big Island like Da Poke Shack or Umeke's. Portland... despite being on the west coast, I'm a little skeptical of the freshness of the fish unless it's from a high-end sushi place or a place like Roe. So I skipped the poke. Well, our drink orders were kind of messed up. They had forgotten one of drinks. And the never got our lumpia order. The teriyaki chicken was a little dry. Where was the teriyaki sauce? And the kalua pork was ok. Some of the pieces were kind of dry and tough but other portions of the order was fairly tender. The prices were OK, but what you got for the was not Hawaiian-sized servings, but more like Portland-sized servings. I think had it not been for the discombobulated service, I would have given the place a better rating.

Enjoy the atmosphere of Hawaii while not leaving the mainland.

By Peggy B |

Request an outdoor table to enjoy the atmosphere of Hawaii. We decided to order three different small dishes and share the food. The Korean chicken has it own special flavor with the garlic counter-balancing the sweet. The sweet and sour vegetables are incredible with added bits of fruit. You guessed it -- pineapple was included. We also had the Kalua pig which was made with sea salt as it was slow roasted. The side of rice and macaroni are a Hawaiian tradition. Don't forget Monday is Mai tai drink night. Our server was extremely knowledgeable about explaining in detail the flavor of each dish.

Love the Teriyaki chicken

By Jina |

This restaurant is in the neighborhood of my business and I eat hear all of the time. I love their teriyaki chicken and Caesar salad. My dog loves my leftover teriyaki.

Very interesting cuisine.

By Robert K |

Went there withh family that lives in Portland. We're from the Midwest . Never would have found it without their knowing about. (The food grapevine in Portland is crazy) My wife and I have never been to Hawaii but now I really want to for the food alone. Every dish we had was exotic and enticing. I don't recall the names of the dishes but they were all delicious. Take a chance, try something different.

Kalua Pork 7-days a week . . . Awesome!

By BeATraveler |

This has become one of my weekly treks. While the wait can be exhausting when the place is packed, the food is well worth it. From the Hawaiian style poke and the Korean ribs to the kalua pork and the mahi mahi, it is a great taste of Hawaii and easily reminds me of home. The portions are large and meant to be shared family style. Don't miss happy hour, with good deals on drinks and 1/2 off pupus!

Aloha Portland!

By krlynn |

Located on a little side street in a beautiful part of Portland is Hawaii's 10th island (after Las Vegas). The food here is great. We had Kalbi ribs, the mahi mahi sandwich, and kailua pork with the usual sides of mac salad and rice. Can I just say that I love Kalbi ribs and these are some of the best I've ever had! The portions were huge for a very reasonable price. They come in small medium and large. Don't get anything larger than small unless you brought an army of friends to share with or want take out for a week. We loved all of it! This is the best Hawaiian food on the mainland folks. The decor and the aloha added to my happy illusion that I was in Hawaii. They have a diverse menu, live music in the evenings and they cater too. Mahalo nui Kai for the great service and for taking the time to talk with us.

Good food!!

By rickmartins |

Good food and great portions!! Very laid back and funky place. Would highly recommend for lunch or dinner.

As we say in Hawaii…Onolicious Local Food!

By localHawngal |

Bamboo Grove Hawaiian Grille has good choices of the "Island Style" plate lunches and dinner plates. They have three choices of Beef Kalbi and are all great.

Love the food! Great first time visit equals more future visits!

By Poker_Ninja_206 |

Found this place on line before we drove into town from Seattle. The other Hawaiian restaurant that we normally visit was closed for renovations. We arrived a little after 12 pm on a Sunday and were seated right away. We ordered Spam Musubis to start, then I ordered the medium size Loco Moco and the portions were more than enough. It came with two large beef patties and a fried egg drenched with gravy, over rice and mac salad. My gf ordered the Portuguese Sausage with egg and rice. We ended up taking leftovers to go because it was a lot of food and I was happy to know that we'd be having it for dinner later that night. Service was great, atmosphere was very nice. We will definitely come back soon!

Love this hidden gem

By MyKim T |

I love coming here with friends for fabulous, authentic tasting Hawaiian food. You can't go wrong with any meal option. My husband and I love their Mac, and we enjoy the atmosphere. The best time to visit is when you can enjoy the live music and outdoors.

Super food.

By synexsy |

The bamboo grove has some great food, and the best macaroni salad I've ever had. We live near here so we've been frequenting this place a few times a month since a fateful day we walked by and were lured in by the great smell. I recommend the teriyaki pork, very flavorful. Also recommend the kahlua pig which is available the ending of the week, (thurs-sun?) The service is friendly and efficient. There ambiance is laid back, but can get busy on the weekends. They take reservations and there can be a waiting list.

Best Hawaiian Food in Oregon

This is by far our favorite Restaurant, the food is authentic and Awesome. Rivals any Hawaiian food on the Islands Recommend a reservation. You will not be disappointed, Portions are large. . .

The food brings Hawaiian memories

By Shelmert |

Whether you are from Hawaii and crave the food, or want to forget about the rain in Portland by thinking about Hawaii, you should try Bamboo Grove, off Macadam Ave. (Hwy 43) in SW Portland. Great food, especially any of the rib plates and the kahlua pork. I am a big eater, and the medium size portion fills me up completely. Good macaroni salad and spam musubi, happy hour specials, too. This place usually has a good lunch crowd, so I try to go a little early or a little later.

Stop in, you won't be sorry.

By Locus1974 |

It had been a couple years since I went to Bamboo Grove last and I had forgotten what a great eatery this little place is. I forgot how great it is to get a plate heaped with marinated chicken, ribs, rice and of course a big pile of macaroni salad. Very generous portions. One of the few places I have brought leftovers home from. Go with the right attitude. It is a fairly small place and at peak times it can be busy. Because it is fairly small, they don't have servers and bussers everywhere, so sometimes service can be spotty. I haven't ever gotten "bad service" here, but don't pass up a refill when they offer. Don't be put off here, like I said, service can be spotty at times, but it isn't "bad". So glad I got reacquainted with this culinary gem again. I will be back!

Great Hawaiian style restaurant in Southwest Portland

By David N |

Believe it or not, some of the best Hawaiian restaurants on the U.S. Mainland are in Portland, Oregon. The Bamboo Grove has a full menu of "ono grinds", or "delicious food". I am getting hungry just thinking about it! The venue features live Hawaiian music on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings, and if you are fortunate - maybe some hula dancing as well.

Best Hawaiian food in Portland!!

By thegreathawaiian |

All the classic hawaiian plate lunch offerings from Teriyaki beef, chicken Katsu, and Kalua pork. It's back near a business district with limited street parking. They told me they fly in lau lau from Hawaii. We were lucky enough to go on Saturday evening when they brought in live music (hawaiian style slack key). The Haupia pie was super Ono and of course they seve Kona beers.

Delicous

By Skookumlukum |

Super plate!! It's the best. Don't let the price worry ya. You won't leave hungry!! Hit up the appitzers, especially at Happy Hour!!

Great Lunch Date

By mceisaman |

It was a random place to eat because we were in the neighborhood, but it was really good, a place I would like to come back to.

Awesome Food

By Jake G |

This place was amazing. I suggest the Kalua Pork, and they have it now 7 days a week. Huge portion sizes, all at a reasonable price.

It's just about as good as Maui!

By itslisaj |

I had a friend that was a patient at OHSU several years ago. I offered to come up from Eugene and bring him some "non-hospital" food. I found this cute little restaurant on our beloved Yelp. Needless to say, he loved it. Time has brought change in my life and I moved to PDX several months ago. I never forgot Bamboo Grill and realized that I pass by it daily. I was actually looking for Here We Go Again Friday night and saw that Bamboo Grill was literally next door. I stopped and was greeted by a very nice young lady and perused the menu for something to take home for dinner. It would have only been ten minutes if I wouldn't have asked for a few extra minutes at HWGA. Upon my return, I found my order ready and was on my way. I ordered the Rib Sampler and a pulled pork dinner, that includes rice and yummy mac salad. I think my bill was $20 or so. The manfolk and I really enjoyed our dinner and still have leftovers, even though we shared our order. I'm not a fan of many Hawaiian food on the main island but I will definitely be back to the BG. It tastes like the food on Maui, really! Even though I didn't eat in the restaurant, I'm sure that the service would be great. They were doing a good amount of business when I was in but it was still a relaxing environment. BG is a little off the beaten track (Macadam) but worth tracking them down. If you want the real Hawaiian experience, have the Moco Loco. Yikes, a heart attack on a plate.

Awesome Waitress and Experience

By hessmrj |

On our 10th consecutive December at Bamboo Grove, we had our same waitress who also teaches at PSU. While we brought our sons from the east coast (GA and LA) we had the same great service, mai tais and plates that we have had the past decade. Kahlua Pig, mac salad, and rice is the best outside of the islands. Mahalo.

Very Good place for dinner.

By 4cents-worth |

Our dinner here was very tasty and the conversation flowed easily. The sound level inside the restaurant was conducive for normal conversation, something we seniors appreciate. We had a combination platter that included pork and chicken and we thoroughly enjoyed it. The quantity was quite large and the price reasonable, and the service very prompt.

Gluten Free Hawaiian YUM

By Krayche |

Always wanted to eat here but it's almost impossible to find Hawaiian food made with wheat free soy sauce. Now that's all they use here! And it's GOOOOOOD. My frugal Dad thought it was a bit spendy for lunch but was then impressed by the portion size and ended up taking 1/2 his meal home. His BBQ chicken special was great, my pan fried chicken was perfect, and Mom's ribs were finger lickin' good, literally, I mean, she was licking her fingers. I've never been to Hawaii, but I know people who have and they say this place is very authentic. It's a bit loud in the main room (Dad doesn't hear well) but then when your mouth is full you're not conversing anyway. Also a downside is the only GF subsitute for the mac salad is a cheap, plain salad of bagged lettuce, but maybe one day they'll make a GF mac salad! Looking forward to going back for Mai Tais at Happy hour and some Hawaiian tunes weekend evenings.

Good Hawaiian food

A slice of the islands in portland

By hod01 |

This is a place to go when you want a break from the normal menus. Here we have Hawaiian comfort food - and plenty of it! Meat dominates the menu - ribs, chicken, pork, spam, sausage. You can also get some fish dishes. All the dishes have that teriyaki/charred/BBQ taste to them, which is great. Each dish is served with rice and coleslaw, not a French fry in sight! They have 3 portion sizes and even the smallest is good, the medium will give you enough for lunch next day! If that's not enough, they sell Kona beers!

Friday and Saturday Kalua Pig. Also good for mac salad cravings.

Friday and Saturday Kalua Pig. Also good for mac salad cravings.

By far the best Hawaiian Cuisine in Portland!

By Ian S |

This is one of my favorite restaurants of all time. These guys are masters of comfort food. The smells of the grill are intoxicating, the food is off the hook, and the portions are enormous, true Hawaiian style. Most people who order a small still end up needing a to-go box. My favorite dishes here are the grinds - Kalua pork, Shoyu chicken, and the grilled Korean chicken. The decor is great and they play surfing videos on the TVs. Full range of Hawaiian Beers on tap. Great outdoor patio.

Always a family pleaser

By ltzme |

Our entire family loves Bamboo Grove. This was our first attempt at having us all dine there at the same time and everyone was pleased with their choices. Mostly combination plates were ordered and even sharing one with my hubby we still brought food home! I like macaroni salad but I would say that I love it at Bamboo Grill !! The staff is warm and friendly and the place has that neighborhood charm. We fought rush hour traffic from the west side to dine here so you know it’s gotta be worth it!!

Yummy Average Hawaiian Food

By ProudOregonian |

Good food, about the same as every other Hawaiian restaurant I've been to. Customer service could definitely use some help though. Prices are average.

Excellent food, great service, fantastic live music!

By Bob B |

This restaurant is very casual and was easily able to accommodate our party of 11 with relative ease. The live band was playing Hawaiian music which really completed the surroundings. It honestly felt like a relaxing Hawaiian dinner, until you look outside and see the Pacific Northwest rain falling outside. Our entire party loved the food. I will definitely return when in Portland again. There was a overly served woman in the restaurant at the time whose language and volume could have been better, but that was not the restaurant's fault.

Hawaiian Plate Lunch Family Style

By TopherOR |

We had a small group eating late lunch. We wanted to try a lot of things on the extensive menu so asked if we could eat family style. WOW, what a treat! We ordered a few large plate lunch combo's with mac and steamed rice. So what arrives- A couple large bowls of both mac and steamed rice then several large platters of our selected entrees. It was so cool to pass each dish and bowl to make sure everyone had their fair share. The food was really good. The service was really friendly and good as well for our group of eight (8). The bonus was an opportunity to try a glass of pineapple cider. All in all a great experience.

Best and Most Authentic Hawaiian Food in the City

By pulido1011 |

This. was a great little place! It's very small and tucked away in a little residential area. But what it lacks in size, it makes up for in food portions! You can select small, medium and large. Small is around $8-$9. Medium size is $10-$12. And large sizes range from $14-$16. We ordered the Loco Loco (grilled hamburger patty over white rice, smothered with brown gravy and topped with eggs). A small order had one patty, medium twould patties and large with a whopping three patties! The portions are ridiculous (in a good way)! We also ordered the grilled Mahi Mahi plate, Portuguese sausages and lumpia (Filipino eggrolls) as appetizers. The sausages were grilled perfectly They give you four sausages split n half for one order. And the lumpia was good too. The Mahi Mahi was very juicy and perfectly seasoned. We were a party of 11 so I understand the difficulty in seating such a big group. But we were seated right away with no problem. Our host/server was very courteous and professional. He did his very best to take care of our culinary needs. Did I mention the portions are gigantic?!?!? I just thought I'd mention it again. Large portions are great for sharing especially if you want to try different dishes. But a large portion can feed two...maybe even three people...okay maybe two really hungry ones anyway. The Bamboo Grove has some serious authentic Hawaiian eats! Pure ono! Dare I say...even better than King's Hawaiian Restaurant and Bakery in LA...

We're back!!

By Lora H |

Ok, so we have continued in our quest for authentic Hawaiian food, most recently at Kama'aina in Forest Grove. I was enticed by their chicken long rice and lomi lomi salmon. We're back here because this is the BEST.

By far my favorite Hawaiian food in Portland

By WCDiver |

Bamboo Grove just has it right. The food is always good and the atmosphere is casual yet a bit of an upgrade from some of the other Hawaiian grills in the metro area. It really does have the feel of a restaurant you could find in Hawaii. Their service is fair and their pricing is reasonable especially considering that their portions are very generous. The macaroni salad is fantastic and they put a bottle of their delicious teriyaki sauce on the table. They have some nice booths for dining and also a large banquet size room in the back if you have a large group. I was there on a Sunday night and they had a couple of guitar players there playing very nice Hawaiian style music at an appropriate volume. Try them out. Just don’t crowd up my favorite spot.

Great food with grumpy service

By Luteguy_10 |

We found that we got good portions of good food at good prices, but none of that seemed worth it when it came with grumpy service. Both the server and the owner seemed to be in bad moods from the start, and from nothing we did. Maybe it was just the day we visited, but I don't think we'll be back regardless of the pluses.

A bit of Hawaiian Deliciousness in St. Johns

By Melissa S |

We had some catering for a business meeting from here. I went to pick it up. The staff are friendly and super helpful. They are always busy and I can see why with indoor and outdoor seating, a cool vibe and delicious food.

Just like Hawaii

Haven't been to Bamboo Grove in over 7 years since we moved back to Hawaii. Place is still awesome, staff very friendly.

Dynamite food and service!

By Uncle_Bub_SHS80 |

From the Poke to the Kahlua Pig, awesome!!! The portions are perfect and you can order each meal from small to large and the large is more than enough for the biggest appetites. The owner greeted us when we came in and the Live authentic Hawaiian music and dancing was really cool too. We went with a pretty big group (15) and they had plenty of room for us, they also gladly split the TAB for us at the end of a wonderful meal. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a true Island experience!!

We celebrated my son's birthday here and Lea (waitress) helps us right away. Our drinks was ordered and delivered right away. Its six people in our group. The menu looks great w/c they have small, medium large portion. we ordered their ribs sampler for appetizer and the portion is big enough for us. Their grilled menu for sure was the seller for us with good portion to share. They have a separate area for big groups that also used for live band in weekends.

Memories of Maui

For my daughters 35 birthday I took her and our extended family to her favorite restaurant, Bamboo Grove. I had eaten their food once at her wedding which they catered. It was good but the venue was 65 miles from the restaurant so I was anxious to to have their food right out of the kitchen. I chose the Kehei ribs. These are flanken style beef ribs that I used to buy at rib shacks on the streets of Kehei, Maui 30 years ago. They didn't disappoint. Wonderful marinade that works not only to flavor but tenderize these great ribs. Nice selection on the menu and everyone enjoyed their meal. Good service. If you're in Portland and feel like Hawaiian food, this is the place.
