Craving takeout Thai food

By konagyrl |

So I ordered the Thai curry mild mild and I got the Thai curry super super spicy. However, I had returned to the hotel and didn’t feel like going back out into the heat. Check your order if you get it to go! I went after the lunch rush about 2:15 ish so the restaurant was very empty. Complete disappointment because my order was not prepared properly. 😢

Authentic Thai Food

By MaryCalif |

I'm Vietnamese from California. There are very few Asian restaurants I will patronize. This one is a gem! There are many Thai restaurants near me, I've tried them all but this one is my favorite. The garlic chicken is delicious among many good options.

Possibly the best Thai food in San Antonio

By Daveflstc07 |

Food and service were excellent. The waitress was actually a good salesperson as well and talked us into trying the dumpling appetizers as well as the calamari. I had the shrimp & scallops with #4 Thai spice which was just right. Nice size shrimp and scallops as well. My colleague had the Pad Thai which he said was very good. Another colleague had the spicy calamari dinner which he said was excellent. My colleagues also had dessert while I had another Thai beer (Chang). They had the mango with sticky rice and said it was fantastic. The ice cream is by Blue Bell so you can't go wrong there either.

Wow! Better than some restaurants in Thailand!

By Nadine A |

5/5 for the food, which is why WE go to restaurants! My spouse and I have eaten Thai all over the world - this place has better food then some places we visited in Thailand. The veggies are added last and are still fresh and crisp. The red curry and Pad Thai are authentic and delicious! Anyone who doesn't give this place 5 stars is an amateur. The ambiance and location get about a 3/5, but the waiter is super handsome and the rest of the staff is very pleasant. Service was fast, portions were mid to large. We were very impressed! Don't hesitate for a moment, this is the place to get good Thai in the area.

Lovely Red Curry

By Meg A |

Lovely chicken red curry and versatile spice options which allowed my 3-year old to enjoy her first Pad Thai. Easy access to 4-10 and 281 interchange. Can't wait to try more.

Really bad

By offtrack65 |

This is not the best Thai food in San Antonio. when I thai I typically order down a level when they have a rating scale but this was so so hot on a two out of six that it was inedible wife ordered hers on a one out of six scale and it was inedible. Our food came out a 5 minutes apart. Service was poor and slow. I am at another restaurant having lunch. It was that bad.

Good Thai Food

By Peggy D |

Probably the best meal I had in San Antonio. Waiter was afraid that I wouldn't be able to handle the "heat" in the food and talked me into a "3" - it wasn't hot enough. Don't be afraid of the heat - the food is excellent - you can add more heat if you need. Good Service and fast for the amount of people there for lunch. If in San Antonio again, I'll be back.

Dinner with friends

By Pattycakes50 |

This evening was my first visit. I live in the neighborhood and had never eaten here, even though I love Thai food. Friends recommended we meet here. My friends are vegetarian so I was interested to see what they ate. All of our meals were delicious, fresh food, served in an appetizing way. I don’t remember the names of what they ate. My chicken fried rice with medium “heat was delicious. The portions are very generous, I look forward to my leftovers tomorrow! I will be back.

Yummy pad thai!

By amhart90 |

I've been here quite often and always get the chicken pad thai. Nice atmosphere and good service. I've never had a bad experience here although I don't stray from the menu. The staff is friendly and helpful.

Best thai in San Antonio!

By Chelsea G |

What an amazing place. I came with my husband and brother. I got the fried calamari (AMAZING!), fresh spring rolls (great portion size) and their wonton soup (tasty and great for my cold). The staff was on point and went above and beyond what we asked for. Definitely will be coming back here very soon.

Delicious Food Prepared and Plated With Care

By Our Money Matters |

I'm not quite sure of the variety of pricing options in the area, but this food for one person was a little high at close to $30 with tip. HOWEVER, I do not regret it AT ALL (plus I think I tipped closer to 20% because the soft-spoken young girl who served me was really sweet and relayed my orders perfectly in-between getting her napkin folding done). I came at 5pm (no lunch specials) and I came hungry with a couple substitutions that nickled and dimed my way over $20. That being said, I really *really* enjoyed my relaxing solo dinner here for the calm, decorated surrounding (inside that is), the unfussy service, the cook hand delivering her dishes in front of me, and the colorful, flavorful, fresh cuisine. Not sure about any other dishes, but here's what they made me that gave me a perfect Thai fix: - Jasmine Hot Tea pot - Fresh Rolls with chilled boiled shrimp instead of tofu (they actually used fresh mint as well as coriander) - Custom Stir-fried Rice Noodle dish: (a huge portion with leftovers) brown ginger/garlic sauce, mixed vegetables including bell peppers and snow peas, served piping hot with plump, succulent shrimp tail-on I enjoyed absolutely every bite and it really tasted generous and fresh like your Thai grandmother is home cooking for you. Even the dishware felt more sophisticated than more mediocre places that are very sloppy with their presentation or quality of ingredients. I'm not sure if a busier time would've affected the service, but going at 5pm, if you're a hungry early bird, was a very peaceful meal experience. I was so relaxed I wasn't even bothered by that looped instrumental replaying in the background every few minutes. ;-) The bathroom was also clean and well-stocked. I'd be interested in checking out their lunch specials for better prices, but who am I kidding, I'd probably order two just to try more of the chef's cooking!

Excellent Thai Food

By Thomas A |

Food was delicious. We went straight there from the airport and it was very good. We had 1 green curry and 3 Massaman curries. Thumbs up from everyone.

Wonderful Thai Food and Service

By docwhiteaustin |

Three of us had dinner on a a Saturday and all enjoyed it very much. Started with Salt & Pepper Calamari -- extra crispy outside and tender inside, with delicious sweet chili sauce with just the right sweet/hot flavor to complement the squid. Also shared Fresh Rolls that were perfect, with really tasty peanut sauce and shriracha and crushed peanut. Wonton soup was also excellent-- tender, fresh house made wontons in a chicken broth with baby bok choy and other veggies. So GOOD!! Chicken Pad See Eew was large and delicious. Biggest hit was the shrimp and sea scallops in curry on top of a slab of butternut squash. 8 large shrimp and 2 big sea scallops ( cooked just a bit too long, but still quite tasty) in a mild (as we had requested) curry over a nice slice of perfectly cooked butternut squash, served with rice , asparagus and sliced summer squash. Excellent service and reasonable prices for a great meal. Highly Recommended!!! Great family-operated business.

Fantastic meal!

By Marsha H |

I was in San Antonio with several family members for my son's graduation from BMT, and he loves (we all do) Thai food, so the search was on for a restaurant near the base. (And we leaned there simply isn't one.) So, Trip Advisor to the rescue. Everyone of us (group of five adults) declared Bangkok 54 was the best Thai restaurant we had ever been to. ... and that's saying something since we're from Oregon where Thai food is popular and plentiful. We're virtually Thai food experts! 😉 The five of us shared two appetizers and four entrees, and there was food left over for one or two to have lunch the next day. WHEN you go, you must order the Thai fried rice. It was super delicious and the massaman curry was exceptional - flavorful in a way slightly different from that I've had in other restaurants. The only dish we found "average" was the Pad Thai - it was good, just not special ... and everything else was amazing. I can only submit one review here, but I know all five of us would each give five stars for our meal. We drove 25 minutes from the base to get to this restaurant ... and we'd do it again in a heart beat. It's that good.

Wonderful, relaxed Thai

By AntigoLS |

Casual and very delicious. Lunchtime was busy enough that you might want to arrive early. I was invited for a business lunch -- my first visit to this location. The menu has a large selection and you can decide, on a scale of 1 to 6, how hot you want your food. Just FYI, I would have ordered a 3 but was advised by a repeat customer that if I really wanted a 3, I should drop to a 2. I did and that was perfect for me. Another person in my party ordered her meal as a 5 and obviously enjoyed it! Talk to your server. They are very knowledgeable and are happy to accommodate your specific request or answer questions. I will return for sure. Attentive service, great food, super clean, and food spiced the way YOU want it. Pretty perfect.

Nicer on the inside than the outside

By Wayne K |

As stated on another review the outside does not represent the restaurant well. The inside is nice and pleasant in both decor and some light piano music playing in the background. The restaurant been there for about 9 years but must have taken the place of an older restaurant from some of the decor is dated. That being said the place is clean including the restroom which my wife is a stickler for. The food had good flavor and everything was made with fresh ingredients. Be careful on their heat scale for spicyness. I would suggest going slightly lower than what you think. Staff was good and attentive at a higher level than I expected. I typically go to another Thai restaurant in town but will make this one part of our mix of places we like to go.

Maiden voyage

By Steve S |

So many folks have told me this is the best Thai food in SA but I had never eaten here ... until today. Tried the Pad Thai chicken lunch special @ level 3 heat. Good but not best in the city. I shall return to explore the menu.

Fantastic authentic Thai cuisine.

By SergioLubezky |

Not an elegant restaurant, always full (great indication of freshness) and always tasty. Service is friendly, portion sizes are larger than average and their flavor and taste is also better than your average Thai. One of my favorite Thai restaurantes in town.

So good

By pancho pistolas |

La comida es exquisita. Tenia muchos años buscando un curry con bamboo y pollo y por fin lo encontré. El servicio es excelente la personas sumamente amables. Cuando regrese a San Antonio está será una visita obligada. The food is delicious. I had been looking for many years for this curry with bamboo, chicken and finally I found it. An excellent service super kind and nice people. If I come back to San Antonio, I would definitely come back to here.

Phenomenal Thai!

By Judy S |

I lived in Arlington, VA for many years and ate frequently at the original location of this restaurant, which was listed as one of the best new Thai restaurants in the United States by Food and Wine magazine when it opened. Imagine my delight when I found this local gem and discovered that is owned by members of the same family! I have had the crispy duck, but the knock out dish was the special of grilled shrimp and scallops in a lovely curry sauce atop a slice of butternut squash. The concept sounded a little weird, but oh my, what a fabulous combination! The mellow squash offset the spicy seafood (I ordered American Spicy) and I almost wanted to lick the last of the sauce off my plate (but hey, I AM a little civilized..well, kind of……). Try it! And oh yeah, order some fresh rolls…..the avocado, shrimp, tofu, and mint/basil combo will have your taste buds smiling all the way home….and an order of these, not shared with the table, are a pretty good lunch in and of themselves…..).

Very delicious and friendly!

By Kerlyn V |

The food was excellent. We came in 30 mins prior to closing and they were very friendly to us. We had a couple appetizers, the Tom Yum soup and Thai Fried Rice with shrimp and it was all very delicious. We don't live in the city but next time we're here we'll definitely come back and visit!

Tasty Thai!

By Joe G |

Pretty good Thai restaurant with excellent service! The food was cooked fresh and full of flavor. I ordered a spicy vegetarian option and was pleasantly surprised. The Thai iced tea was a little sweeter than most places, but still tasty. The Tom Kha and Tom Yum were both really good as well. Our waitress was attentive and kept the flow of the meal moving along nicely. Don't order the mango dessert with rice, it was salty, not sweet, and almost inedible. Other than the dessert mistake, it was a great meal and I would definitely visit again!

Great Thai Cuisine

By manos6232 |

We have eaten here many times now and are never disapointed . Service is very good and quality and great portions of all the entrees. Flavors can be adjusted hot to mild and everything tastes fresh. Carry Out is great too--- always ready on time--- great place to eat ! Just be aware they are closed on Sundays . And they take Visa, MC and Discover but not AMEX .

Delicious Thai

By Bill M |

Doesn't look like much from the outside; but, it's nice inside and the food is very good. Beware of the spice levels. There are are 7 levels from 0 (no heat) to 6 (911 hot). I chose level 3 (American Hot) and it was way too hot for me. And, I like spicy food. We started with the Won Ton Soup and some edamame. My wife ordered the crispy duck with peppers and I had the pork with string beans. Then, we shared. Our meal was very good.

Very good food

By San Antonio member |

Very fresh and tasty thai. Nice people. We have one place that we like better (but is harder to get to) which is the only reason I didn't give this a 5. By far the best Thai food in this general area.

Tasty Thai in SA

By Marie C |

It wasn't until recently that I started really enjoying Thai food and this is a pretty delish find! The kanom jeeb (dumplings) were very tasty, similar to potstickers. Thai spring rolls were good but nothing to write home about. Best Chicken Pad Thai was flavorful with a sweet, savory and spicy twist (level three heat)! Bon Ppetit

Nice Basic Thai Dishes

By EISMTraveler |

Bangkok 54 Restaurant is a small Thai restaurant located on the northeast side of town. They manage to excellent customer service and tasty, quality Thai food. I typically indulge in their curry dishes and their Pad Thai is also top notch. The spice range is mild 1 to 5 very spicy. They won't typically tell you but there is also Thai hot or 6 on the scale if you prefer. A very nice place

The best Thai I've eaten in SA

By KickBak-n-Yak |

I ordered the chicken w/ garlic sauce. I ordered it level 2 spicy and dang it was hot. The flavor was delicious, had a Tsing Tao beer or 2 as well. Service was good, food was good. I'll eat there agin but next time I'm ordering level 0.

Thai Food that Will Keep Me Coming Back

By pigletpuff |

As you know, American Chinese food predominates and is the preferred "Asian" food. Vietnamese, Thai, Korean, Japanese, I don't go there at all. However, the positive reviews on TripAdvisor decided me to try this place out and I come away very happy with my decision. The food was good and I would say not a stretch if you prefer to stay in the American Chinese category. The meat was tender and lean and I loved the fried rice. The servers were attentive and welcoming. It's modest and dated but very clean. I will be going back.

Great food

By no_label |

This is a great restaurant. I have never had a bad meal hear. Food is authentic and fresh. Vegetables are never overcooked. Recommend that when asked how spicy, if you normally order a "3," order a "2" if you are eating in the evening. Food in the evening is always spicier than at lunch.

Great Thai food

By Eduardo C |

I've been there a couple of times and it is a great place. Last time I went there my wife and I had fresh rolls as an appetizer served with peanut sauce on the side. The veggies in the roll looked (and tasted) freshly cut and the basil leaf was packed with flavor. My wife ordered a spicy Pad Thai which I already had last time I went there and it was great meal. I had a curry duck, the duck was ok but the curry was excellent, I ended up having all the curry with the rice and leaving the duck for last. I would definitely come back again, the service is good and the food is excellent.

Best Thai Fried Rice

By ROGI-DOGI-DOO |

Been going here about 4 years. The food is absolutely delightful. The Thai fried rice has the most perfectly cooked chicken. Some restaurants serve Thai fried rice that has too much oil. Not here. This is seasoned well with fresh scallions, tomato, peas, carrots and cucumber. The service is great. Always friendly. I like their other dishes, but the Thai fried rice is money!

Terrible

By Kandi F |

We went for lunch, I ordered the drunken noodles spice level of #1(very mild). My Husband order pad Thai spice level #2. My dish came out about 10 minutes before my husbands and it was so spicy hot that it was inedible. They took it back and brought a new one with no spice, husband still has no food. Finally they brought his and it was so spicy it also was inedible. We told the waitress it was about a 6 level of spice where she kept saying it was a two. Waitress kept walking by giggling and saying it is a #2 !! Horrible food and wait staff!!

This is it!!!!! Pure authentic Thai awesomeness!!!

By Kewon F |

I am in the military and I have eaten at Thai restaurants all over the U.S. and in other countries. The foods at Bangkok 54 Thai Cuisine are among the best Thai foods I have eaten. The chefs there do not stray away from the traditional Thai ingredients or style of cooking. I was very impressed and happy with the flavor of the foods and the customer service provided. Anytime I visit San Antonio in the future Bangkok 54 Cuisine will be on my list of priority restaurants to eat at again. If you are looking for well prepared authentic Thai foods you don’t have to look any further than Bangkok Thai Cuisine!!!

Great place for a family dinner

By Matt C |

We have had three extended family meals there in the past two months. One lunch; two dinners; all great experiences. At this family owned and operated restaurant, the food is excellent, the service is great, the facility is clean, the prices are quite reasonable. The garlic sauce dinners (chicken or beef) are OK, but the chicken (or beef) with basil is excellent! Great presentation on white, square plates with a side bowl of white rice. Vegetables are fresh and crisp, the meat is excellent and plentiful, the basil-sauce pairing is delicious. The shrimp with scallops, salmon, spring rolls are all excellent! Their website pan-around video gives a detailed, accurate view of the interior. Great place!

Wow!

By Amanda W |

What a wonderful experience. The food and service was amazing. The atmosphere is just fine, a little cozy. The fresh rolls, the duck curry and the mango sweet rice were perfect. They spend extra time to dress the plates with flowers made of carrots and basil flower buds. This is a must go.

Best Thai in SA

By Sandman365 |

Me & the old lady eat here at least once a week. Very good lunch specials and plenty of food. Spice level is 1-5 , 4 is pretty hot. Best dishes are Thai fried rice & beef entrees. Little lady at front is also funny.

A cozy Thai eatery

By bektrip |

Thai spicy food is my faverite dish and I love Bangkok 54 restauarant. They have good selections of dishes. Staff is very friendly. I have been twice and I enjoyed the food. I took a coworker with me on my last visit and he liked it very much.

Try this gem! Delicious and hospitality fantastic!

By RatherNotSay |

Delicious food, tasting very fresh and clean. By clean, I mean all the spices can be tasted at the front or back of a bite. Normally they are all thrown in together and have a blended experience. Hospitable by all encountered that work there. Restrooms clean. We dined at the lunch hour on a Friday.

Nice Valentine's Day Dinner

By docwhiteaustin |

Three of us enjoyed a very nice dinner on Valentine's evening. Started with a delicious order of Salt & Pepper Calimari. Wife had a Steak Special with nice slices of steak stacked over some steamed cabbage with asparagus spears . I had the Shrimp & Scallops with Curry served atop a nicely cooked slice of butternut squash and also had asparagus with slices of zucchini and yellow squash. Tender and juicy scallops (2) , shrimp (7 or8), fantastic golden curry sauce with perfect heat ( mild for Thai index, per my request), perfectly cooked squash (all 3 types) and asparagus. Large portion, but I cleaned my plate! My daughter had Garlic Chicken which she also thoroughly enjoyed. Have been here about four times in past few years when visiting San Antonio and have always been pleased with food and service. Recommended!

Great Thai Nearby

By bobemac |

We enjoy Thai food and I felt like a spicy curry so I did a search for a Thai restaurant within 2 miles and voila! Bangkok 54 showed up on our Radar. The weather was cold and there had been some ice on the roads so when we showed up at 11:30 and were the first patrons to arrive I was a little doubtful. No worries here. This is a warm and delightful place with friendly employees. My BW likes Pad Thai and was so happy with her choice. The noodles were just perfect and the crushed peanut sauce was amazing. I had the red curry with chicken. They have six levels of hot at this place. # Three is rated hot for Americans, and six is over the top for Thai citizens. I went with a two for my curry and it was spicy enough. I could have handled a three, but the two level was good. There were generous amounts of sliced white meat chicken, red pepper, and assorted veggies in a tasty curry sauce. They started out with the hot and sour soup which was OK. There's a pretty good spring roll added with the lunch. The soup of the day is included and it changes daily. We later tried their takeaway service and were impressed with the Drunken noodles with beef and the pineapple fried rice. It looks as if we found a Thai food keeper.

Super food, Super ambiance!

By Fritzele |

Very well located near loop 410. It is owned and run by a Thai family and they do a great job. They immediately give you a bowl of the day's soup, which is always scrumptuous. We usually get drunken noodles or stir fry veggies with tofu. The food is outstanding! The ambiance is the best. You feel like you are in Thailand! We go there quite often.

Best Thai Food in town

By John T |

It's funny the place has a sign out front that reads Best Thai Food and it really is. The price is fair and the food comes out fast. The owner is a really nice lady. A must try is the Pad Thai , Soft Shell Crab , and Bangkok 54 Fried Rice. I also like the Red Coconut Curry. I am shocked they haven't done a Food Network episode yet on this place.

Very Good

By Joseph S |

I've just come to the Thai table and I can assure you long-time experts that you will not be let down by your meal here. Delicious food in a very clean environment, served by very nice people. Enjoy!

Excellent food and service

By jesfire415 |

A friend told me to go try Bangkok 54 for excellent Thai food. The restaurant was very clean, and the service was excellent. The atmosphere was very inviting and relaxing. We ordered the chicken drunken noodles and it was excellent with water chestnuts, little corn, slices of chicken this plate alone was enough for two people. The spring rolls were light and delicious. The mango with coconut rice was an excellent way to end a very good meal.

Dinner

By Jin C |

My husband and I came to Bangkok 54 Thai based on TripAdvisor reviews. The restaurant is clean and the service staff courteous and efficient. We ordered the fresh rolls as an appetizer. It was made with fresh ingredients, served with peanut sauce and it was tasty. My husband ordered the shrimp and scallop stir fry and I had the drunken noodles with shrimps. He enjoyed his dish and I liked the noodles but not the sauce or shrimps. The sauce was salty and shrimps were rubbery. As a result, I'm giving this restaurant a 3 rating.

Delicious

By houstonnative47 |

I have never eaten Thai food in San Antonio before so did not know what to expect while here on a visit. We were pleasantly surprised. We ate here for lunch so there was a special menu for lunch. We enjoyed the chicken with basil and green curry with tofu. The only thing we didn't care for was the noodle soup. It had no taste and the length of the noodles made it hard to keep on your spoon.

Best Pad Thai in SATX!!

By Samuel G |

This place is always clean and the staff is always friendly and attentive. The food is amazing. I want to try every thing they make but the Pad Thai is so good, I keep ordering it.

Really good!

By archimedes210 |

The chicken Phai Thai and green curry chicken are really good. Mild is pretty warm. Would definitely recommend it!!

Fantastic Food

By Tony H |

The restaurant servers the freshest vegetables with all the best homemade sauces, all their dishes are made to order. Their most excellent and friendly service and staff. Our food has always been served on our table hot and fresh, no matter what you order, or what time of day or evening. I always look forward to bringing the family and friends, their staff always treats you and welcomes you like family. If you enjoy food with a little hot zing in your meal, you won't be disappointed, with a great clean atmosphere as well. Don't miss visiting this place if you're visiting San Antonio

Get There Early-Great Lunch!

By MedDaddy |

My wife and I had passed this place many times and decided early lunch was the right time. She had Chicken Basil; I opted for Pad Thai Chicken. We chose a 3 out of 6 spicy level. Both dishes were delicious (we traded at "half time") although we will probably got to a 2 next time. I did not detect the ground peanuts in the Pad Thai but did not request additional; it was very fresh and chicken was tasty and fresh. Lots of customers at lunch; advise early arrival.

Best Thai in the world!

By Ruel |

This is the best Thai cuisine I’ve ever had in my life! Every time I visit this place, the sea food pho and combination (all meats fried rice) is my go to dish even though the other dishes are incredible also! Be sure to try the Bingsu Mango dessert! A must try!

very good food and services

By yo-ho555 |

very polite services and most of dishes are authentic Thai food! very satisfied.

Amazing little place!

By Jennifer F |

We came here expecting great food based on all the reviews, but we weren't expecting it to be this good! Everything is fresh, the staff is knowledgeable and attentive, and the food was just amazing!

Very good food and service

By Grant H |

Went for the first time for lunch today with some friends who dine here regularly. The interior is very nice and comfortable, well maintained and clean, with plenty of room between tables. I would guess this is a family operation, as we were served by many different members. Service was fast and friendly. It got very busy after noon so I would get there early to avoid some of the lunch rush. I noticed a two different groups come in who were obviously regulars as they exchanged greetings with the staff. That’s always a good sign to know people are repeat customers, as with my friends. We started with the vegetarian fresh rolls wrapped in rice paper with peanut sauce. Very fresh and well prepared. I had Pad Thai Chicken, comes with soup of the day and a veggie spring roll. Again, the freshness and kitchen skills were apparent, from the presentation to the taste. When you place your order you specify how spicy (hot) you want, from 0-6. I ordered a 3 and thought that was just a bit too hot, and I enjoy some heat. So you might want to start with a 2 and work your way up. All in all, a very enjoyable dining experience and I will return. I plan on taking some friends there for lunch in the next few weeks. I just wish they were closer to work and home so there were more convenient.

Tasty Thai Food!

By Greg from Philly |

Great Thai food! Had the Larb Gai (chicken) for an appetizer, then Chicken Basil for my main meal. Love the various levels of spice. From no spice to crazy hot/spicy. Probably six levels of spice. Plenty of parking. A San Antonio gem.
