Fried pumpkin and pumpkin curry! I am now a fan, never loved pumpkins before! Multiple Vegan and Vegetarian options!

Good food close to downtown hotels

By iLind |

My wife and I were in Portland for a conference. We found Bangkok Palace was just a few short blocks from our hotel (the Portland Hilton), so one night we placed a take out order and ate in our hotel room. The food was very good, so we returned a couple of nights later for dinner at the restaurant. Service was quick, and the food was consistently good, in our experience. The tastes were right, and a bit of experimenting found the right level of heat. We would have no problem recommending this for visitors and locals alike.

Unforgetable

By EbChiarini |

Very well prepared and served meals. Justice in food prices and in amount that it served. Employees are kind and food have good taste.

Hot and fast

By CarloCowboy |

Thai can get boring, but at Bankok Palace, the freshness and flavors make Thai welcome again and again. Dishes come to the table exquisitely hot in temperature. Add some red pepper sauce to reach the perfect spice level. Staff always friendly and attentive.

Comfortable, excellent service and the food was great. We loved it.

By MacTx |

After reading a mix of reviews for this restaurant ,we decided to try Bangkok Palace in downtown Portland. I am happy to say we were pleasantly surprised. The service was excellent and well timed, the food was great, and the prices very reasonable. Especially if you like asian rice cooked properly, this is a great place.

Great Find

By E n me |

During my stay in Portland, I ate here 3 times. The curries were delicious. I enjoy spicy so the flavor was perfect with plenty of shrimp (my preference). The sticky rice and mangoes desert was fantastic. The mangoes were fresh, sweet and ripe— perfect with the rice. I also had a fresh coconut with a meal. It was chilled to perfection with tender coconut. Excellent. The service was attentive and fast but not rushed. I went around 5 pm so not too crowded. I would go back again and again if possible.

Spicy just the way I like it!

By Nannette B |

Fresh, flavorful, Spicy and you will clean your plate! Laid back service, the cool kind, not the inattentive lazy kind. The Pad Kapraw was great, but so was all the food I lifted from a friends plates. The Thai ice tea was the best I have had in a long time and a very picky friend agreed as she tried it for the first time.

Good food

By David F |

We had a really nice meal. The Thai food was as good as I have had anywhere. The restaurant was not very full and that was surprising for the quality of food and service. We did notice another Thai restaurant around the corner, people were lining up down the block, don’t bother, eat at the Bangkok palace.

Thai Food in Portland

I enjoyed the food here so much that I ate here twice. Delicious food a great value. The restaurant may need an upgrade though.

Thai Food at it's Finest in Portland

By FlipFlopPeki |

While visiting Portland last week, my daughter and I found this wonderful Thai restaurant called Bangkok Palace. We both have traveled in Thailand and were hungry for a taste of Thai. Bangkok Palace is on the corner of Taylor and 3rd. It was wonderful! Our favorite meal while in Thailand was Green Papaya Salad and have found only 2nd best substitutes in our search here. Bangkok Palace was superb and 100% authentic. We also enjoyed their Larb Gai and Panang Curry. The service and cleanliness was of the highest quality. Prices were reasonable and we were able to return there three times before we had to leave Portland. If you want authentic Thai food, this is a real find!

Noodles❤️

By Mina X |

Very nice restaurant and service was good. It’s quite spacious and window seats are the best! The Drunken Noodle dish was good!!!

Great Thai fares in the heart of Downtown

By Ashok D |

We stopped here for lunch as we stayed at the AC Marriott across the corner. The menu had a good variety. We ordered vegetarian items (Basil fried rice, tofu green curry, eggplant curry and Pad Thai noodles). Everything was made perfectly to our taste and spice level. The food was simply awesome. We ordered our food at the check-in desk and paid for it before sitting at our table. That saved us time and we were able to reach hotel in time for our check-out. We'll definitely be back when we visit Portland next time.

Terriffic Lunch!

By Michael S |

I have enjoyed lunch here many times. Service is prompt and friendly. The food is first rate - arrives Hot and tasty. I recommend!

Excellent!

By Anthony P |

Food was fabulous, generous portions, reasonable prices. Nice quiet spot. Wife forgot purse, we later called and got it back, wait staff was so nice, and honest.

Awesome! Second time here, was here last spring and loved it!

By TazManVisram |

Had red curry chicken curry and basil fried rice it was yummy! The quality of food was really good. Only funny thing was the sign in the bathroom:

Yum! You gotta eat here!

By m1ch1sweet |

I ate here twice when I was here in the spring and was not disappointed when I returned in the fall. My boyfriend wants to go back tomorrow night again! You have to try the green curry chicken satay. Delicious!

Not good

By danasdelights |

They present the curries have four different levels of heat. They water down the curries the less heat you want. Flavor decreases but it’s still hot. Not great food.

Good Thai food

By Shanker B |

Our team - group of 5 stopped here for food on a Monday night around 8:30 PM. We were seated immediately and the service was warm and friendly. they had a decent local beer selection and had some wines as well. We had a wide variety of appetizers - including calamari, green papaya salad, etc. The papaya salad was very sour and not very good but the other items were good. We also had the dumplings which was great. For the entrees we ordered different kinds of curries. Crab fried rice, pad thai, etc. We shared the food and we were quite stuffed by the time we finished. Decent place for a team dinner.

Tantalizing dishes.

By Karolpdx |

You will find authentic cuisine here. The food is very good and the service is excellent. You do not have to wait too long for your lunch. The food is served right away. So if you are on a tight schedule this is a good place.

Bangkok Palace, Delicious Thai!

By CarolLake69 |

Wonderful decor, gracious servers and good food. We had the egg drop soup, spring rolls and cashew chicken. Fast, spicy and tasty. Good size portions. Will go back again next time we are in Portland. Found this place while walking around town. One of the few affordable places in the area.

average Thai food in modest surroundings

By divenuts |

the food was fine but nothing to make me return if i'm ever in Portland. the kind of place you get delivery from if you live in the neighborhood. there must be better Thai places in downtown Portland

Dinner

By Melissa R |

Green curry is not very authentic. The service is mediocre at best. The crab meat is stick imitation that isn't even attempted to be broken up in the dish.

Surprisingly good Thai

By Sara H |

Great meal after a long drive and a bad check-in at our hotel across the street. Don't be put off if it's not busy. We had friendly, quick service and good quality Thai. Papaya salad and mango with sticky rice were especially delicious.

Great Thai food!

By David L |

We came here after giving up waiting in line for Luc Lac and what a great decision that was! Well priced good quality Thai food and a couple of cocktails made this a great start to our evening out in Portland.

A good place to eat especially when you are on the go

By Carolyn44601 |

I was in town for a conference and stumbled upon this place on my lunch break. I returned the following day with some friends as I found the staff pleasant, service quick and the food great value for money. There were lots of options even if you are not a meat- eater and the staff was happy to answer my questions regarding the contents/preparation of the meals.

Great food, great service

By ouchfirehot |

We were a group of five adults downtown for lunch. We were seated quickly, and efficiently, though it seems as if the seating area is a bit cramped. Bangkok Palace's lunch menu appears at first blush to have your standard ho-hum Thai restaurant offerings. However the resemblance ends there. The food is fantastic. We ordered a couple different noodle dishes and a rice dish. The food came out quickly, which was important because it was lunch. The "spicy" level is really spicy! We also had a sour seafood soup that had a great balance of salty, sour, sweet and spicy.

Good food.

By Salil |

Food is good. Not the best but good. I had pad Thai. It was good but a bit on the sweeter side which is not how I generally want my lunch to be. Servings are generous and price is good too. Go for it if you are in to Thai food.

Very Busy!

By wyocowgirl13 |

The food was great, a little small in the portions, but very tasty. The place was packed so we chose to sit at the bar and we were checked on every time any of the staff walked past.

Great drunken noodles!

By Daniel D |

We all had the chicken drunken noodles and I will say they are amazing and may be the best Thai dish I have ever had, though I am far from an expert. They have a spicy scale and I would recommend getting one level lower than what you originally think. Definitely recommend the drunken noodles here and I will have to try other dishes next time I go.

Thai made by thai

By nthirion |

My first view of any thai restaurant is always to look for actual thai people serving or cooking the meals. It usually means there is someone who knows what he/she is doing. Bangkok was no different and the vegetable green curry was great. Second rule when eating thai cooked by thai people, alway take medium and never hot. I am not thai and have not point to prove so going up in flames is never a good idea. Will be back for more.

Delicious

By Incognito |

Service was friendly, knowledgeable & very efficient. Food was spiced perfectly. We got cucumber salad, special- Mango red curry w chicken, & beef stir fry. EXCELLENT!

Great selection and service

By Cindy F |

Three at this table, all very satisfied. Staff very efficient. Prices acceptable. Gets busy at Noon.

yum

By Mookie-Eugene |

We are real Thai food fans. We came upon this restaurant totally by chance. What a great find. The menu is quite diverse. We decided to try something new and have one old standby plus a fresh salad roll. All were just delicious. The service was fast and friendly. The prices were typical (lunch specials $8 with chicken pork or tofu, more for shrimp, etc.)

Great food, good price!

By Toni888_10 |

Really good food for a great price. The food portion is enough to fill you up, we've had smaller portions at other Thai place. We had the drunken noodles with veg, beef green curry, chicken pad thai and basil beef and calamari. No complains, my kids loved the food as well. You must try! Toni

Lunch plate is adequate and tasty

By Alan K |

We both had their curries, one tofu and one chicken. Average size portion and not a notable change from standard fare. The price was right $8.95 and the service was fine, as we were there at 2:45 far after the lunch crowd.

Gave it a try when too hungry to wait elsewhere

By betht969 |

There was only one other party in the place! But the food was very good. The green curry was on the spicier side. I didn't care for the salmon I ordered, but the drunken noodles were amazing!!! I noticed walking by the next day that the place was packed for lunch,

My current favorite sit down thai restaurant

By Chris Z |

I like to eat at the carts, but when I want to sit down this is my current favorate place, but that is mostly due to proximity. The food is good, rather quick and the spice level doesn't blow me away. The staff is a little curt, but they get a pass from me because they are always flying around filling water and delivering food. I prefer to get in and out during my lunch hour and this is the place to do just that.

Enjoyable, Fast and Friendly

By Calanne |

I was staying at the AC hotel and they recommended it for lunch. I enjoyed it so much that I went back the next day for dinner. Cozy atmosphere and fast, attentive service even though it was pretty busy. Lemongrass chicken with steamed spinach and veggies was excellent. I would definitely go back if in the area again.

Drunken noodles--tasty

By shewholovestoeat |

Lunch time and wanted noodles, came in a little after the lunch rush. Noodles were very fresh and tasty. The place is cute too. Staff is nice.

Excellent Lunch - Good Price

By Michael S |

Had lunch here - delicious food at a fair price. Service was fine. Convenient location in the heart of downtown Portland. Pleasant decor.

Tasty, Casual, family friendly

By Marc L |

I have a soft spot for restaurants that treat my kids well -- these good people did and were kind and, perhaps more important to you, the food was excellent. I can't judge authenticity but we all of us really enjoyed the food.

Good Thai downtown is hard to find, but this is probably the best place downtown.

By KyleDPDX |

Good Thai downtown is hard to find, but this is probably the best place downtown.

Mushy Wide Noodles

By Hallywood |

I had the drunken noodles, medium. The food came out very quickly and the server was nice enough, although lacked any type of social skills (note: there was NOT a language barrier). It looked really good...but as I ate more, I noticed that the noodles were mashed and over cooked. Uck. The veggies were perfect and the spice was lacking. I walk by this place every day and am disappointed I won't be stopping again. Many other delicious Thai places nearby.

Spice, to go

By Ray Q |

Big portions of nicely flavored Thai food that totally hits the spot when you are craving fresh, tasty food with a kick of heat and spice.

Very Flavorful

By John |

My Panang Curry was flavorful, perfectly portioned and delicious. Friendly, efficient service and a clean space, too!

Average

By 921adriank |

I like Thai food a lot. I could not find a lot of choices near my hotel so I decided to walk to Bangkok Palace. The food unfortunately was average. I would not recommend this place. I ordered some spring rolls as an appetizer. The filling was almost nonexistent. These rolls were basically fried dough. For the main dish I had stir fry basil beef with rice. It was not bad.

Fresh, delicious Thai in a lovely atmosphere.

By finney9685 |

We loved our meal at Bangkok Palace. Only three blocks from the Duniway Hotel. We wanted something local and fast, and we hit the jackpot. The decor is beautiful and serene, the young woman who waited on us was prompt and friendly without being intrusive. It smelled wonderful and the kitchen looked clean. The menu was easy to understand. Our food was delivered quickly, it was hot and perfectly spiced. Be aware, hot means very hot. If you like really spicy food, get medium. A local treasure. If I worked in Downtown Portland, I’d be eating lunch here often.

Lots of Vegan and Vegetarian Options

By AliceMariam |

This is a great Thai restaurant because they freshly make dishes to accommodate vegans and vegetarians. They also can seat 10-12 people and they efficiently deliver the food. I also like the "hot" spice level.

Not awful but recommend food carts instead

By Laura C |

Came here during my lunch break and they were super packed. Got seated right away but took awhile to have my order taken (again they were really busy so i understand). I had the musseman curry which, when it came, was really small for the price. It was in a shallow bowl with a small portion of rice. It was decent tasting but I have not been back since. There are food carts nearby which are cheaper, just as good or better, and better portions.

Nice place to eat

By Land Yacht Express |

This was a great lunch experience for me. Talk about some "curry" choices! I had the pineapple curry soup and it was delicious! Nothing like a good soup to warm you up on a beautiful fall day. No complaints here. Can't wait to try something else. Great menu.

Great Thai food

By Ann P |

Lovely spacious restaurant, with friendly service. We had dinner here, the food was great. Generous portions and quick service. Would definitely eat here again.

Very nice restaurant with excellent food at affordable price

By Wielaul1 |

Exzellent food, very friendly service, very clean. We were three days in Portland and we eat there three times.

On the mediocre side

By Virgil_Boulder |

I've had take-out from here twice. The pad thai is just okay - needs more lemon, more tamarind, more peanut. Seven large shrimp were included, very well cooked and delicious. Beef larb is so-so, kind of stringy and no zingy. I was here on a Wednesday at 6:30 and there was only one table occupied, my food was ready in less than ten minutes. There must be better Thai restaurants in the area getting the business.

Good Thai in Downtown

By Gary G |

I stayed at the AC Hotel on 3rd Avenue and Bangkok Palace was right across the street. The food and service were great! They have wifi, which was great to have while eating lunch - Pad Thai - the chicken and spring rolls were very good. I ate there a second time the following day, a fried rice takeout. Lots of vegetables and spicy. I would go back.

Great lunch spot!

By Maranello05 |

I had a great lunch today at Bangkok Palace. The yellow curry chicken was great-full of chicken and vegetables and perfectly spiced! Very big portions that are really well priced for lunch ($8.00). The service was friendly and speedy. If you are in the area (especially if you work downtown) I would definitely give them a try!

Tasty and good value

By smac87 |

The place we wanted to eat downtown, which I had found on-line, was not open on Saturdays, so we ended up nearby at the Bangkok Palace. We were immediately seated at the window with a high chair for our toddler. We ordered a selection of standard thai appies, like satay, and soup that were all satisfying. I had never seen day-glo calamari, but it was literally bright orange. despite the unique colour, it was still tasty and only a bit chewy. Service was just right, and the meal was good value for the money. If you are looking for a reliable, affordable late lunch downtown and don't want to wait, this is the place for you.

Slow, disappointing service overshadowed the food

By OrganicMama |

Dragged my husband downtown to this restaurant, which I'd visited once before and had a good experience. We had to wait at least 35 minutes for our food in the middle of the lunch hour. In the meantime, we had no apologies for it taking too long or any kind of contact with the server. I had pad see ew with chicken, and my husband had a curry. The food was decent, when it finally arrived, but next time I'll stick to the food carts!!

Slightly off the beaten path, and worth the find

By Stuart F |

A brief walk from our hotel, we managed to stumble across this find. I tried the Pumpkin Panang and would have liked the pumpkin flavor to be stronger. Yet it was well balanced with the heat of spices which we asked for on a 3 level. This place has open windows to let some cool air blow through, wonderful friendly service, and priced well. A great little find, and one worth trying.

Terrible service overshadowed...

By Whitney K |

The service was quick, but the waiter was not very good. He was super unfriendly & kinda just threw the food down and never came back. Not even for a refill. The glasses were filthy, there was a lot of stuff floating in the water. The food was AMAZING! I very rarely clean my plate but I ate every drop! I'll probably go back and just expect terrible service!

Solid Thai food, affordable, with good service.

By Mark P |

After refusing to wait an hour at Luc Lac, we walked over to Bangkok. I ordered the duck curry. It was well spiced, and the duck breast was tender. My date's Pad Thai was decent. The meal was very good!

Best Thai Food we've had in a while...

By wendrawoman |

This casual dining Thai restaurant hit the spot. The service was excellent and the food was outstanding. The large windows were opened and it created the perfect breeze and atmosphere to enjoy our meal.

Friendly, tasty

By SJPrice |

Stopped by for lunch and ordered Pad See Ew with chicken. The portion was large and food was fresh. Chicken was a little bit dry but edible. Went back for dinner another evening and had Pad Thai, which was very good in quality and flavor. Service was fast and friendly.
