Worst Thai in Atlanta...do not bother

By Katie B |

I ate here on the weekend. The service was very slow. The food was the worst Thai I have ever had. They put almost no meat in my basil beef dish. There was no basil either!! I was still hungry after I ate my mostly rice meal. It was watery and had no flavor. I will not be going back but instead go to nearby Little Bangkok which is incredible.

Great food

Nice spot near botanical gardens. Service was great l. The prices are reasonable and the food is tasty.

Good Food in a Reliable Restaurant

By D-Leader |

It is small but lovely. Conveniently located near the Botanical Gardens, this restaurant is great after a visit to the gardens. The food was excellent and the service was very good. The prices were reasonable. A recommended stop.

Run of the mill

By Bruce H |

I was hoping a business trip to Atlanta would yield high quality Thai dining, but this place was okay without being good. The spring rolls were bland, the basil tofu ordered with medium spice was also on the weak flavor side. Good portion size. Sodas are delivered to the table in cans with a goblet of ice. No free refills of course. Pleasant server and not too pricy. Comfortable well lit dining room.

Great quick and delicious meal

By Delores Axelrod |

I was in Atlanta on a business trip, and wanted to grab a quick bite. I had the Rama protein + vegetable dish with steamed rice. It was prepared and seasoned perfectly. What the location lacks in atmosphere it makes up for in friendly and attentive service and quality ingredients. The shrimp in my meal were huge & perfectly cooked, as were the abundant fresh veggies. Perfect for me!

I love this place...

By GA_Travel_Lover2008 |

Bangkok Thai was the first Thai restaurant that I had ever gone to so I didn't know exactly what to expect. From that first visit, I was hooked. I have tried other Thai restaurants but I haven't found anything close to Bangkok Thai. I have been going here for over 10 years! The food is awesome...the cheese rolls, pad thai, mixed curry and on and on. The sweet tea is wonderful. What really makes the experience the best is the staff. They get to know you and remember what you like and don't like. They are all so nice. On top of everything, the price is very reasonable. If you are in the neighborhood or even if you're not, give it a try.

Very Average Thai in a City with Killer Thai

By ATLconsultant |

The owners are always very friendly, bless their hearts. But the decor is shabby, the food is fair at best (the chicken satay is actually pretty good....but everything else is just fair).

Great little place

By Flyrod929 |

Really like this place. Small, informal, clean. Service friendly and prompt. Very reasonable prices. I got cashew chicken and it was excellent.

Good Thai

By EmilyFromAtlanta |

We’ve been going to Bangkok Thai since my three year old daughter was an infant. The service is great, the restaurant is family friendly and the cheese rolls and drunken noodles are very yummy.

Great Little Place

By Geauxhike |

Went with classics to judge a new place, and they were very tasty. Pad Thai and Jade Curry were both delicious, and medium spicy was the right amount. The owner was our server, and very nice.

Wonderful cheese rolls and green curry

By Emily C |

We have been going to this restaurant for years. It is very kid friendly, great fast service, and nothing to dislike.

Great Thai Food!

By Jammy54 |

Try the spring rolls and Panang curry. Very convenient pickup. They let you double park behind the owner's cars.

Lunch - excellent food & value

By ljbaughman |

Late lunch - heard it is normally crowded. Small place but very clean. Everyone friendly. Food authentic and excellent quality. Had Pad Thai and Shrimp Kew. Both very good. Coconut soup was excellent. Lunch came with soup which was unexpectedly hearty and delicious. Real Thai, while it has a bite, does not linger with heat - this was real Thai!

Yum

By Doreen D |

Great place to eat. Not like typical American Thai, this place really adds some spice. Nice atmosphere.

Worth a Visit

By Kim M |

This restaurant has good, spicy food, although you can request mild spice. I can recommend the duck and the Thai noodles. They have attentive and helpful wait staff. I would return.

Good Food; Good Service

By Ken K |

This restaurant, located near the Ansley Mall on Piedmont Avenue, a block from Monroe, was a nice find. The waitstaff is very cordial, quick, and attentive. The menu has a nice variety and prices are reasonable. Parking can get a little tight in the lot out front. I thought it a little strange that neither salt or pepper shakers were on the table. Spring rolls are served in a miniature deep fry basket -- cute. And, for those who like it, the invoice suggests tipping amounts of varying levels.

best cheese rolls

By Tanya A |

every time we come to atlanta we stop here i love the cheese rolls i wish they had a place in new york all their food is so good but i really love those cheese rolls

Basil Chicken was great. Tom Ka Soup wasn't.

By Dustin S |

Saw this on Yelp and tried it because it received good reviews. I was pretty pleased with the main dish but the Tom Ka soup, which is my favorite dish, was too thick and powerful for my taste. Good service and I'd say it's worth a try overall.

Excellent!

By Warren L |

Some of the best curry dishes in Atlanta. Tea Roses and Fresh Basil Rolls are great. Super service. Nothing fancy. ... just great food and service. Give it a try!

Nice Stop for Thai in Buckhead

By James W |

I like this place. It's simple. Not expensive. And a great menu. Open late. Just find something different. Try it.

Unpretentious and delicious

By Diya L |

This great little place is exactly what you want for a relaxed evening out. Delicious, fresh and homemade food made with pride and passion in unpretentious and informal surroundings. We found ourselves there after a meeting in Downtown Atlanta. As a group of Europeans visiting on business, it was a breath of fresh air to eat here after the chain and steak restaurants around our hotel. We ordered calamari, satay, green shrimp and roast duck curries. The portions were perfectly formed. The chef/owner came and introduced herself to us which was particularly endearing. The surroundings have no frills but the flavours and charming staff more than compensate for the decor. Slightly off the beaten track for tourists so Uber was a good way to get there from Downtown.

Good, but not great

By MWR |

I liked the Pad Thai, my girlfriend was not so crazy about it. We also ordered Panang Curry Chicken. It was okay. Based on ratings, I was sort of disappointed.

Unique Thai Recipes

By Walter M |

This restaurant had been a favorite for lunch for decades. It recently closed, I hope temporarily due to a change in ownership. Very friendly staff.

Favorite Thai Restaurant

By Emily C |

We've been going here for 10 years, and the food has always been excellent and the service great. It is a very family friendly restaurant, we take our seven and ten year olds and they are always greeted personally by the staff. The cheese rolls, drunken noodles, and Thai Green Curry are particularly good.

Never disappoints

By Afsaneh A |

We usually eat here when we visit the Atlanta Botanical Gardens. Love the food. The appetizers, the curry and the combo rice are amazing. Not so much the desert.

Very bad tasting Thai food

By Zach S |

This place isn't Thai. It's food is nowhere near authentic. We have had way better at Little Bangkok nearby and Thai Spice in Peachtree City. I can't believe how poor tasting the Pad Thai, a very authentic and original Thai dish, was. I do not recommend even trying this place.

Rude staff

By BostonPride21 |

I went here a few nights ago with my friends and we arrived around 945. Walked in and a rude employee walked by us 3 different times and never said a word, basically ignored us then another employee never said hello, just that they were closing soon. So we sat down and the employee who ignored us said “hurry” to order as he was rushing us. Was surprised on how rude the staff was basically not wanting any business. Food was delicious but staff needs to be friendlier

Glad we stopped by

By Carolg |

Great meal. We had a few different dishes and shared some of them. Great service. Can’t wait to go again next trip.

A very solid uninflated 4 stars

By John D |

The inside is nicer looking than the outside suggests. They claim to be ATL's first Thai restaurant. We had lunch, it was solid, and $9-10 for most items. Better than average I'd say and their dinner menu looks interesting, some items over $30. Recommended.

Very nice staff- unfortunately food is just ok

By nuyu2013 |

Not authentic Thai in terms of flavours. Tom yum soup was not tart- tasted of too much soya sauce and was quite bland. Papaya salad was too sweet. Red Thai curry was bland. Overall balance of flavours was totally off. Looks like thai food but does not ltaste like it. Staff is very nice and the restaurant itself also nice.

Convenient to the Botanical Garden

By Jeffrey D |

Based on strong reviews and the convenience factor, four of us dropped in for a late afternoon meal after touring the Atlanta Botanical Garden, which is barely half a mile up the street. We shared appetizers (basil rolls and pot stickers), and three of us ordered different entrees (Super Pork Combo, Sesame Chicken, and Tofu Pad Thai w/o other proteins) while our fourth member cobbled together a vegetarian meal out of a garden salad with brown rice and steamed vegetable sides. (Note that the lunch menu does not contain any purely vegetarian entrees, which we found to be a surprising oversight and missed opportunity. Perhaps the dinner menu is different.) Overall, the food was okay, though the garden salad must have been sitting as the lettuce on the bottom of the bowl was discolored and the cucumbers were not as crisp as on other dishes we ordered. (Sent back for fresh produce.) Portion sizes were okay, but I didn't feel that my super pork combo was a great value for the cost. More than likely we'll search for another restaurant the next time we visit the botanical garden

Still good - but I miss parts of the original.

By sl66120 |

I was very sad when Bangkok closed for renovations after being sold to a new owner but could not wait to try it after hearing that it had re-opened. Overall, the vegetables seem much fresher than before and portion sizes are larger. Unfortunately, the menu changed a lot. Gone are old favorites Rama Chicken and Ruby Curry. In addition, the Pad Thai is now much closer to what you get elsewhere. The old version was my favorite dish at the restaurant and, while good, the new version is not nearly as satisfying. Lastly, I miss seeing Paul the waiter -- I hope he is coming back.

Great Thai

By Bob34877 |

This was our first Thai experience many years ago and this is still our favorite Thai restaurant!! Great value at lunch, our favorite is the Bamboo Shoot- get it with chicken it is the best and all for like $7 and comes with rice and a spring roll. We love the tea rose appetizer as well.

Excellent food and service!! Try the mixed curry dish!! Such an infusion of flavors! The owner, Madame Chai came to our table and she is really sweet. We finished our meal with homemade coconut ice cream. Everything was delicious!

Exceptional Thai food.

By fossilman2 |

My wife and I enjoyed everything we ate at Bangkok Thai restaurant. Particularly good were the basil spring rolls and the Pad Kee Mao (drunken noodles). I told the chief that the last time had noodles that good was from a street vendor in Bangkok, Thailand. The Madagascar vanilla bean cheesecake with fresh strawberry puree' and honey wheat crumbles is worth ordering again and again. All of the staff were polite, friendly, and offered great suggestions. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Wishing I Went Elsewhere....

By JFischer |

This place just grossed me out. I didn't see their Health Department score, but the waiter/host/manager? was eating some pastries in front of the few guests who were seated, and he had a bunch of straws sticking out of his back pocket. That said, I've eaten more authentic Thai food from the frozen aisle at Trader Joes. I ordered the Drunken Noodles with beef.....what came out was a syrupy mess of brown food that was so sweet it seemed like sugar was added to the sauce. The sparse vegetables were onions and sliced green beans, plus a few slivers of jalapeño. The waiter never came back to check on me, but asked me to pay at the front, where I noticed a vase full of old flowers. This place is pretty much a fraud. I don't think you could pay me to give it a second chance....

Very Good Thai restaurant

By Robert R |

This is is a small (50 seat) restaurant. The staff is frendly and attentive. The restaurant is very clean. Parking is no problem, there's plenty. The staff is aware tastes vary and ask about your spice level preferences. I like very spicy so I asked for the spice tray after the food was delivered to the table. I think it's better for the restaurant to spice conservatively since one can always add spice but if the dish is too spicy, it's may be ruined for some people. The red curry is excellent. Soups (Tom Yum and Tom Ga Kai) are on the dinner menu only. Located on Piedmont street, the restaurant is convenient to downtown and mid-town and located on a major bus route. If you enjoy Thai, this is a great place.

Excellent choice and value

By Flyrod929 |

Had not eaten here in several years. Enjoyed a nice lunch with good food and good service. Not a fancy place but clean and friendly. Prices are very reasonable and they are very willing to adjust spice level if you don't like typical spicy Thai (which I don't). All in all an excellent value and great small local lunch or dinner place.

Fantastic little restaurant!

By Erika M |

We almost missed it since there is construction outside but I’m glad we persevered. We had calamari, basil rolls, and Massaman curry with Thai iced tea. Everything was delightful. The calamari had a light breading and nice sweet and sour sauce. The basil rolls were crisp and fresh with gorgeous presentation - looked like sushi. Attentive server and nice atmosphere.

Good thai

By Sneaky_Nuts |

The guys in the shop are fun and nice to talk to. Food is pretty good too and very cheap. Had the tom yum soup and drunken noodle. Both bit too rich for me - soup too sour, drunken noodle too much sauce and bit too sweet for me. But I suspect this is made to match the American taste, nothing wrong with that, same thing happens here in Australia with Asian food. Nice walk from midtown, feels safe and not too far if you're moderately fit.

Get the hot pot soup!

By aprueitt |

I had the hot pot soup for my meal and it was enough for 2! Delicious! It comes to your table flaming so it is fresh and hot!

It must improve

By ilGiangy |

My experience is based on an order through Uber, after a very long wait came a carton without cutlery or chopsticks in which everything was mixed and organized in a messy way, the food was not presented as on the menu, small quantities, high price about 40 dollars for this small portion and gyosas.

Nice service, lame Thai

By Paul K |

It's hard to fathom the strong positive reviews. I've tried this place twice and am done with it. Today's masaman curry and Thai Pasta were both like soup dishes because the sauces were so very watery. The basil spring rolls are better at a grocery store. The server was nice and attentive but that is not sufficient for me to ever return.

The jury's still out on this one

By StockholmKindaGuy |

Bangkok Thai recently reopened under new management and I wonder if it would be as good as it previously had been. It was always my favorite Thai restaurant. The first thing I noticed was how little change had been made to the interior. I expected much more considering the change in ownership. Most of the items on the menu appeared to be the same, possibly a few new items, but the prices had gone up slightly. Bangkok Thai had the best Pad Thai in the Atlanta area and I decided to give it a try. The portion seemed a little bigger. Unfortunately for me, it just wasn't as good. It was OK, but just not what I was use to. The service was just as friendly and attentive as it had always been. For me the jury's still out on this one. I hope they go back to the original owner's recipe for Pad Thai.

Not to clean

By OCTX214 |

I've tried this spot twice for lunch. I probably shouldn't have gone back the second time, but I'm notorious for giving places chances. The first time I had the chicken basil, which was good. And, I had the coconut chicken soup. The soup was just ok, not close to what I have had at other places. There was also a weird smell in the restaurant, but they had an A, so I gave it shot anyway. I went back a second time, and the smell was stronger. I ordered the chicken basil again, and this time there was some type of plastic in the dish. I didn't even it all, and I didn't have time to go back for a refund. I don't know what is going on in the kitchen, but it doesn't seem like it is the cleanest of places.

A good find near some gay bars.

By drdanielmacdonald |

A good find. A lot of tables in a smaller place. Tasty food and fair prices. A little frantic when it's full. Would return for the above if in the area.

Good Thai food

By Coty E |

Bangkok Thai in Atlanta is near midtown. So it's an easy walk, if you'd like to enjoy a nice stroll. Very good food, reasonably priced. Moderately sized portions, but you will probably still leave feeling full. We ordered the Basilia and the Rama. Both dishes were good, but my wife and I both agreed that the Basilia was superior. The food came out very, very quickly and the servers were good with their service. Not a large or very overt place, but it's worth stopping in. It's located in a smaller shopping strip, fairly close Piedmont park and the botanical gardens.

My favorite restaurant PERIOD!

By Jas W |

Started going to Bangkok Thai over ten years ago and every time is a treat! The atmosphere is classic and relaxed due to the very intimate staff. They get to know you and vice versa. They treat me like family, which has gotten me through a couple solo Christmases. To top off the experience the food is A-W-E-S-O-M-E! The combination of great food, atmosphere, and staff make me want to move back closer to the city to enjoy more often.

Craving Thai Cheese Rolls

By ChattChefJoe |

I've been dining at Bangkok for 30 years. Humble restaurant, very good service and delicious Thai food. Cheese rolls are a great start. Favorites are Black Pepper & Garlic, Jade (green) Curry, and Basil Noodles.

Bangkok Thai is back on my Go To list.

By StockholmKindaGuy |

Bangkok Thai had a change in ownership back in 2017. It was always my go to Thai restaurant. The new owners made some improvements to the interior, that included adding a bar. Personally, I thought they could have gone further. They also made changes to the menu. When I first reviewed this restaurant after the ownership change, I wasn't too impressed. Since that time, I feel the restaurant has made some big improvements in the quality of it's food. Their menu features a nice variety fairly traditional Thai dishes, along with a handful of specials written on a chalk board. In addition to meat and seafood dishes, you can also get a variety of vegetarian and gluten free dishes. Some favorites of mine include the Drunken Noodles and Panang Curry with Chicken. I also enjoy their coconut soup and chicken satay as starters. While not overly large, the dishes are a good size and well priced. Desserts and alcoholic beverages are available, as well as take-out. Service is both friendly and attentive. Bangkok Thai is back on my Go To list.

Great Thai food. Lively and entertaining staff

By khcarlso |

I was in the area and craving Thai food so when I saw this place, I did a quick lookup on a few ratings sites and decided to try it, and I'm glad I did. The food was very good, not too sweet like some Americanized Thai food. The older gentleman that was our waiter was very knowledgable about the menu, plus he was very funny. I will definitely go back the next time I'm in the area.

Thai Cuisine you'll "Love"

By StockholmKindaGuy |

This is my favorite Thai restaurant in Atlanta. I've eaten here many many times and never been disappointed. Bangkok Thai is a small casual restaurant where the owner makes a point to say hello to the customers. The menu offers a great selection of dishes. The curries are excellent, especially the Panang curry. Gingerine chicken is another favorite dish of mine. Bangkok Thai also makes one of the best Pad Thai's that I've ever had, which was the dish I had on my latest visit. In addition to the excellent food, beer & wine are also served. Prices are very reasonable and service is friendly and attentive. Bangkok Thai, the first in Atlanta, is a great choice for lunch or dinner.

Pad Thai was disappointing

By lacoon |

I recently got takeout from Bangkok: pad thai and a curried chicken. The curry was pretty good--very thin and liquid-y, which was nice to put over rice and felt pretty light/healthy (kinda low of the chicken though). The pad thai was boxed up in a styrofoam container and by the time I got home to eat it, the noodles had stuck together so much so that i could pick the whole thing up in the shape of the container. Tasted good, but was extremely difficult to separate and eat.

Not impressed

By hlosacco |

I ordered lunch from here the other day. It was unique and enjoyable but the dish was unnecessarily greasy. Portion was decent.

Surprisingly good little Thai restaurant with decent prices

By ATLDawg |

This is, simply put, a good Thai restaurant. It's rather small and it's not fancy, but the food is well-prepared and a good value. Everthing I've sampled from their menu is authentic and tasty. The environment is relaxed and the servers are friendly. The only drawbacks are the relative lack of parking, which can be a problem during busy times, and the small size of the restaurant (with near absence of a waiting area). This place can get really busy on Friday and Saturday nights, and you usually have to wait outside or crammed into the doorway area. Otherwise, a little gem on Cheshire Bridge Road.

One of my favorite restaurants . . . anywhere!

By John J |

I have been eating at the Bangkok Thai Restaurant since 1987. The food is always excellent and the staff both friendly and attentive. The prices are very reasonable which make it an excellent value as well as being a great place to eat. My favorite dish is the Panang Curry. The Cheese Rolls are to die for. Do yourself a favor and enjoy a meal at the Bangkok Thai Restaurant and you will not be disappointed.

Great neighborhood Thai

By Snapurbia |

Bangkok Thai has been around for quite a while and is a solid choice for Thai food. Restaurant is a nice, quiet place - excellent for couples. Though the decor is not overly impressive, the food is on point with friendly and attentive service.

Spicy enough to enjoy

By JRiviera |

The food was pretty good, tasty. Don't be afraid about spicy food because is not really hot, it's spice enough to enjoy the dish, so don't be afraid about it. The dessert was ok, I tried the tiramisu, it wasn't my favorite, I think is made with ricotta cheese. The service is great, friendly people.

Wonderful Thai food and fantastic service

By JRO |

Two things occured to me on our last visit to Bangkok: I hope they put the chicken/shrimp mixed curry special on the regular menu, and I have never reviewed this incredibly tasty and friendly restaurant! There is no pretention here - no "happening scene" - just really great, authentic Thai - lots of curry and coconut milk and spice, and no fortune cookies anywhere. The service is genuine and sincerely friendly. The space is homespun, clean as a whistle, and uncomplicated. You can order your food heat specific and they will accommodate. Thai Hot is a level you can feel across the table, but House blend is the perfect gentle kick - and they will cook to order every level in between. Just go - and ask for Chai (she is a joy.)

Excellent food as always!

By Charles W |

The food is always great, and the service is always dependable. I frequently order Take Out from Bangkok and they are always spot on with the food and the efficiency with getting my order ready. The freshness and flavors of the food is consistently delicious.

Neat neighborhood place

By Sheryl1313 |

The owner said I wouldn't like my original order, said he'd give me something else, better, for the same price. His selection was delicious, he was right. Not sure what it was called, but it was curry with chicken and shrimp. My husband's dish was good too. It's a real hole-in-the-wall place in a questionable strip mall. Obvious that it's a place locals go for a quick bite. Just the kind of place I can't resist.
