Great lobster roll...for Seattle

By Undrwtr |

I had the lobster roll. It was good for Seattle, but did not have as much meat on it as I get in Maine. The service was excellent...as good as we have had anywhere. We will make Bar Harbor a regular part of our visits to the city.

After the March - good eats

By jsmaquis_425 |

It's new, and kind of small. We sat in the bar, my wife had the lobster roll $20.000 good but over priced, and I had the clam chowder, good and priced well. Very good selection of oysters, we had the kushi's. Overall I hope this place does well. Looks like in the Summer they will have a large patio which will allow them to have more seating.

Good quality seafood at market prices

Lunch was a lobster roll, yummy. This will not be a frequent lunch stop given that it cost 25.00. Service is friendly, the open kitchen is interesting to watch.

A Bit of Maine in the NW

By momski |

Great Lobster sandwiches. Even better than the ones we had in Maine last summer. Ben, who owns Bar Harbor, grew up in Maine and nailed it by reinventing the same lobster rolls you get on the East Coast. However, I'd say his are better. The bun was went through many tests until he found the right one that allows enough crunch on the bite and softness on the chew. Great wine selection. Just a a great location too with MBar in the same building.

Amazing lunch

Once you've had a lobster roll in Maine, there are no substitutes. This place is Seattle is as close as you will get. The owner is from Maine and he does an outstanding job of it. The clam chowder is the best you'll find in Seattle and the lobster roll comes out on a hot bun. The lobster was wonderful and had just a light touch of mayo. (there are several ways to order your sandwich). The coleslaw that came with it was light with a touch of vinegar. Simply divine.

Great place for a drink and a bite!

Swung in here for happy hour one weekend. Loved the vibe... great service and even better nibbles! We enjoyed the pickle jar, citrus olives, the hummus plate and the burrata. All were delicious!

Enjoyed the atmosphere - a little noisy and casual - but worked for us

By SeattleTravelmomm |

This is a restaurant right out in the open, so people shopping look in at you - but for lunch it worked for us. The food is good and the prices a little high, but there was a nice selection.

Last Meal in Seattle

By tim1999 |

We walked by Bar Harbor and took a look at the menu. All the food we ordered was good --- Dungeness Crab Mac and Cheese was awesome. Sam Adams for $5.00 an a waiter that was quick to deliver food and drinks. Crab Cake sliders were also a favorite. Con --- A/C was not the greatest, but it did not ruin the meal.

Mac and cheese with lobster is fabulous! Uses penne and smoked gouda as one of cheeses in sauce. Chunks of lobster. Also available as crab

Great customer service

By LSJDC |

We ordered food for 4 people - some lobster rolls, soup, salad, lobster BLT. Our husbands walked there to pick up the order. When they got home and the wives unpacked dinner, the 2 soups we ordered were missing. So we sent the guys back, and the restaurant sent them back home with the two missing soups, 2 free bottles of wine and an extra potato salad! Really decent of Bar Harbor to give us so much in return for leaving out two soups. Kudos to them for the really sweet gesture and excellent customer service. Highly recommend that everyone supports this local gem.

Pretty Good

Decent food, decent drinks. Super weirdly quiet in the middle of the day on a Saturday tho. Would try again at night or during the week as it was strange to be the only ones there. Good service.

Nice idea but food doesn’t match

This is an attractive small restaurant with an ambitious menu of lobster, crab and other things. Unfortunately, on my one visit, the reality didn’t measure up. I had the lobster roll dish ($19), consisting of a smallish lobster sandwich and some greens with a tasty dressing. The lobster roll used an appealing split-bread wrap (a thick piece of bread sliced lengthwise and toasted) filled with a good amount of lobster. Trouble is, the lobster had very little flavor. It tasted not at all like real just-boiled lobster. The restaurant is part of an upscale food court occupying the first floor of a 12-story office building in a calm neighborhood of high-rise apartment and condominium buildings. The restaurant is open to the rest of the food court, leading to noisy surroundings. It has about 7 tables, a food-service bar and drinks bar. The restaurant’s kitchen is open to the rest of the restaurant.

A piece of New England in the PNW

By Emily I |

This place was highly recommended to me as a Massachusetts native to try when I was craving a lobster roll. Bar Harbor has 3 different kinds of lobster rolls: CT (butter), New England Style (mayo, chives, and celery), and Maine (mayo). I split a CT style roll and the lobster Mac and cheese with a colleague for lunch and was very pleased. The bun was toasted just enough, but not overdone, and I could almost bathe in the butter they put on the lobster. The chunks of lobster in both the roll and the Mac n cheese were generous and large pieces. The breadcrumbs on the Mac n cheese have old bay seasoning (delicious!!!) and are just the perfect amount atop the cheesy wonderland. Looking forward to visiting again and bringing all of my friends from back east here when they visit.

A taste of Maine in the PNW

Thankful for outside, covered eating area to enjoy my first lobster roll! Funnily, I've actually been to. Bar Harbor, Maine. I didn't have a lobster roll there because the combination of lobster and mayo sounded disgusting. My boyfriend convinced me to give it a try. So on a rainy day this weekend, we grabbed Crab Stuffed Deviled Eggs crab and a Lobster Roll "Maine-style". Both were delicious. The staff was great, and the atmosphere fun. I do.i recommend that they add some signage for the compost, recycle and landfill bins because those were a co-mingled mess.

Different, Delicious, Fun

New England “Clam Shack” transported to Seattle. Full bar with excellent selections. Friendly place for anyone, you don’t need a Red Sox hat to get a good table. Everything on the menu looked delicious, we tried most of it during 2 visits. Bartender Bryan is the “finest-kind”.

Excited to find, but not a find

So we are from the East Coast and when we saw a restaurant named after a place in Maine we thought it would be an answer to our desire for some food we miss. And yes, lobster rolls are on the menu - but are rather tasteless I am sorry to say. Coming from Cape Cod I am accustomed to “full” lobster rolls with big chunks of lobster meat flavored with lovely lemon and maybe some fresh lettuce too. The roll here was toasted but dry; the lobster was mainly tiny tails - and nothing you could really taste. Maybe I hoped for too much. It was served with a very small portion of nondescript cole slaw and a bag of chips. Did have a nice beer with the roll; and my partner had the lobster mac and cheese that was okay but again not creamy enough, or cheesy enough. But people are friendly here; and they do have a happy hour till 6 when things are cheaper. Good to take kids here as it is casual and there’s room for them too.

Delicious Lobster Roll

By robmrob |

Enjoyed a delicious lobster roll with coleslaw and chips. The roll was soft and buttery with amble lobster that was cooked to perfection. The wait staff was very friendly and the atmosphere was comfortable and clean. I would highly recommend and will return will I visit the area again.

Great vibe, excellent food

By Quinto25 |

I ate dinner here with my husband and two other couples after a U of W football game. Cool place with a bar, tables, and two TVs, with an open concept. The server put the Mariners game on one TV and the Oregon game on for one of our friends on the other TV so we hung out for quite a while and had a great time. We ordered the pretzels and deviled eggs for appetizers. Both were excellent. The sauces for the pretzels were so good. I had the chicken sandwich, amazing. My husband had the clam chowder, it’s not as thick as some, but he said it was very good. Everyone loved their dinners and the service was excellent. I highly recommend Bar Harbor!

late lunch

Nice clean place. i had the Dungenious crab roll sandwich. it came with chips and Cole Slaw. when you order the crab rolls you get a choice of lobster, crab or shrimp. you order with mayo base, mayo base chives or butter. i had the mayo base with chives. considering the roll is toasted with heavy dose of butter this was a good choice. overall meal with great service was attentive. especially liked sitting. at the counter watching them prepare food in the open kitchen. my crab was 19.00 while lobster is 20.00. there is an open bar and i you can order macaroni and cheese with your choice of crab, lobster or shrimp.

True New England

By jillannelewis |

Ok, first of all, you must know growing up in New Hampshire there is NOTHING I love more than a lobster roll and New England chowder. My friends told me about this place and I was beyond excited to go! I was not disappointed. The vibe is cool and modern and the food is very good. The lobster rolls are authentic - but small. I get it. They can't afford to make them as big as you get in New England. I will come back but mainly for the CHOWDER! Yes, this was bomber!! The BEST New England clam chowder I have had in 25 years since I left New England. Nice job!!! Get the chowder for sure!! Great bar and knowledgeable staff as well.

Authentic Lobster Rolls Thousands of Miles from Maine!

By Marshall J |

Bar Harbor is a tasty newcomer in the young world of Amazonia in South Lake Union. A Maine native has imbued his industrial chic eatery with coastal treats unlike those encountered elsewhere in Seattle. Authentic lobster rolls -- improved, actually, over many in Maine because of a hardy golden bun -- are offered a daily market price (around $20) that could cause sticker shock, at least until the arrival of a resplendent sandwich packed with sizable chunks of seafood. And there is a also a Northwest version filled with Dungeness crab, at similar price, that even topped the lobster original at our table for two. And the side bowl of Boston baked beans, enhanced with pork belly, was good to the very last bean. We particularly enjoyed our Saturday lunch at Bar Harbor when the new eatery was less crowded than weekdays with the workday hordes. Expense may preclude frequent visits but the memory of such classic seafood roll perfection will definitely bring us back.....

Nothing special

Stopped in because they have lobster rolls. The lobster rolls were good but that was it. Service is not great.

Yum Yum

I came in here seeking refuge from an overly sunny day in Seatlle and to get a lobster roll. I was not disappointed. The lobster roll was perfection along with the cocktail I ordered. I ordered the lobster roll Maine style $19.00 Pricey but worth it. The drink was a Manhattan type cocktail for $11.00. I rolled back out into the sunshine poorer but satisfied.

BEST LOBSTER ROLL IN SEATTLE

By LynnSeattle |

After a few disappointing tries to find a good lobster roll in Seattle we were delighted to discover Bar Harbor in the South Lake Union area of Seattle. They serve it 3 ways in the traditional styles and we enjoyed the one with mayo, chives and bits of celery. The service was very cordial and friendly. It is on the first floor of an office building and more conducive to lunch than dinner. It is on the expensive side but a great place for people who yearn for a really good taste of Maine lobster. It is a generous serving that comes with delicious coleslaw and Boston chips.

Amazing authentic New England food!

Good service, and the food is amazing. I ordered the clam chowder and lobster roll. It was like I was back in New England! Recommend it to seafood lovers. Drinks were great.

A little taste of Maine

By genglertNorfolk_VA |

What a great choice we made for our first meal in Seattle. We started with chowder and clam dip. My husband loved the chowder. It was full of meat and very flavorful. I loved the clam dip with chips and pretzels. Our lobster rolls were very tasty, as well, with buttered brioche rolls and three styles. Brennan was a very attentive server, and the chef, Leroy Fung, worked his magic with our food.

Great lobster, but that cheeseburger tartar though..

By Shaleen D |

My husband and I were craving lobster rolls so we came on a Thursday after work for happy hour. This is more of an after work place, as it does close at 8pm. It’s a small place with seating at the bar, some smaller tables, and some communal tables. The initial service when we arrived was okay. But the bartender was working the bar and serving. To start my husband also ordered a beer and I ordered a cocktail. My cocktail was good and well made. For an appetizer, we ordered the cheeseburger tartar. We had read so many great reviews about it. Those reviews lived up to their words – the tartar was absolutely delicious! It tasted exactly like a cheeseburger. I highly recommend trying it! Before happy hour was up, we made sure to get our two lobster rolls in (New England style). Normally $20, they were $5 off during happy hour. I’m not sure if the rolls were smaller for happy hour or not, but they did seem smaller than what I saw in the pictures. But they were stuffed with lobster. The mayo was so light that the lobster was the star. The roll was also buttery and delicious. Although the happy hour lobster roll may have been smaller, together with the tartar, it was the perfect amount of food.

Nice addition to the South Lake Union restaurant scene.

We were expecting a little more of a nicer restaurant where we could take my mom for a birthday dinner however Bar Harbor worked out just fine. The lobster roll was great but the clam chowder was exceptional. Our server was Nick who was great and even though they were close to closing took great care of us and never missed a beat when it came to service. The wine list is basic and not over-priced, some great beers on tap, and a nice selection of non-alcoholic beverages.

If You Can't Make It To Maine, This Is A Good #2!

By misopiso88 |

Nothing beats a lobster roll on the coast of Maine but since it isn't always practical to fly 3,000 miles for a sandwich, Bar Harbor is a good #2! They have Maine style (mayo) Connecticut style (butter) and New England style (mayo + other stuff.) Highly recommend if you are looking for a fun seafood spot!

Decent lobster rolls in Seattle

By Steven T |

One of my most favorite food trips I’ve ever taken was a trip to Maine to eat lobster rolls. The rolls in Maine are the best in the country IMO. I was happy to learn you can now get lobster rolls in Seattle at Bar Harbor. I got two double lobster rolls in the classic New England style and two chowders to go. The chowder was the best clam chowder I’ve had in a long time. The rolls were delicious but a little underwhelming. I was expecting something on par with the rolls in Maine. Also, I expected much more lobster meat considering I ordered two double rolls at $35 per roll. They gave me chips with my rolls even though I ordered two salads. Be aware - the pick up process for to go orders is very confusing. I first went into the Fairview Street entrance and was immediately yelled at by the guys working inside. I then walked south along Fairview and didn’t see any signage so I then walked back north along Fairview. After finding nothing on the north side of the block I then walked back south along Fairview (I’m sure much to the amusement of the guys working inside Bar Harbor) and I eventually found the small takeout counter on the south side of the block. Needless to say they really need to put in some pick up directions on their site. It would also have been nice had the food prep guys working in the kitchen simply told me where to go considering I was a customer spending over $100 on a pick up order.

Lobster rolls!

By Barbara K |

Spontaneously stopped in for lunch. Had the bacon clam chowder, which had a great creamy consistency with no flour, but for me the bacon overpowered the clam flavor. We also had lobster rolls, Maine style with mayo, and they were delicious! Perfectly toasted buns, and served with a cole slaw that really complemented the lobster, and wasn't too sweet, a frequent complaint of mine. Service was great!

Trendy restaurant with open Kitchen!

By Nkaujlias T |

My girlfriends and I tried this place because we really wanted Lobster rolls. We each got one of the rolls available: Lobster Roll, Crab roll, and Pork Belly roll. The Lobster and Crab roll was exactly how it should be- tasty, lobster, butter!! Yummy! The Pork Belly roll was a different take though- we were told it was "BahnMi" style (Vietnamese sandwich style). I will say it definitely had the slow roasted pork meat- which was soft and delicate (sort of tasted like Pho meat); however I personally thought the cinnamon in the meat was too strong (probably explained the reminder of Pho meat). The sandwich was good though; it was a different take on BahnMi- but not one that I wouldn't want to have again. Overall, definitely worth a try when you are in Seattle. The location of the restaurant itself is in a nice/trendy little building with several trendy vendors. I loved how the restaurant had an open kitchen; and you can literally see the cooks make your food as you wait to dine!

"Fantastic" Lobster Roll

By Romanophile |

My wife is from the East Coast of the US and a connoisseur of lobster rolls and she said "Fantastic" I had the kale Cesar and the Burrata -- both very good. Charming space pretty close to the heart of Amazonia. Loud inside and service seemed a bit slow, but it was a busy Friday night. We will certainly eat there again -- go early.

Legit Maine lobster rolls!

By Mel K |

Ok, I grew up in New England (not Maine, but...) and I not only have a nostalgic place in my heart for a great lobster roll, I have fastidious qualifications for said lobster roll--details that were ubiquitous as a child now are hard pressed to find when away from the Motherland. That says, Bar Harbor has true to form lobster rolls. I got the New England (NE) style lobster roll (of course). First, I could smell the grilled bun as soon as they set it in front of me. Flat-sided bun, grilled on the outside and chewy on the inside - perfectly NE. The filling didn't disappoint - large chunks of claw meat in a very light mayo dressing with a sprinkling of celery for a bit of crunch, lovely. If you had to stuff Maine in a hot dog bun and send it to WA, this would be what you'd want to receive. I got Cole slaw as a side: It was still crispy, and more vinegar-y than mayo dressing, diced cabbage (vs. shredded) and not bitter. Cabbage shined through, very good side. Bonus: NE Clam chowder: Very Smokey, more like small chunks of ham ( pork belly?) Instead of crispy bacon. Milky chowder, very good! (We can get into the "milky" vs. "thick" chowder debate some other time.) Smoky flavor overwhelmed the clams a bit, but clams were plentiful. Rookie highlight - Clam dip (cold): Wow, pretty much the best, fresh Clam dip I've ever had. Creamy, chock full of clams, and coupled with a salty pretzel stick... just divine. The occasional crunch of diced onion is nice, too. Clams are cooked perfectly, not rubbery. I could eat a vat of this. I think the price is reasonable for what you're getting. ~$20 for the lobster roll, which I think is a terrific price when you're 3000+ miles away from the East coast. Pro-tip: if you're from the Motherland and looking for something sweet, they have a "fluff-ah-nuttah" as a secret menu item. ;)

Good Lobsta

By Jeff L |

As former Mainers we always leery of "imported lobsta.". But the lobster rolls here were very good. The option to choose which variety by the way that different New England states make their rolls was unique. Whoopee Pie for dessert? Of course. The only thing missing were fluffer nutters, but that's a Boston delicacy.

The best seafood I've found (so far) in Seattle, is from Maine...

By Greg |

Went with Connecticut style so I could better get a sense of the flavor and texture of the meat. It really was outstanding. Did not have a chance to have the chowder but I'll probably try to get back here while in town. It was that good. Small but good selection of tap beers. Great setting. Wicked good.

Quick and friendly service

By Valerie S |

Great lobster roll with a friendly staff. This is not a stand alone restaurant but rather in an open area with other businesses, but you can still sit at the bar. Service was quick. Food was good quality.
